2024.05.13 16:14 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 124 offenders executed by the state of Oklahoma since the 1970s (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 1, cases 1-62]

This is the list that I wrote for Oklahoma's execution roster since the nationwide reinstatement of capital punishment in the late 1970s. Something that should be mentioned is that given the nature of many death penalty related crimes, many of the descriptions contain very disturbing details. Please read at your own risk.
Florida's list is next, and I'll post my list for Texas once I've completed it. With Texas, I've currently finished 464 entries out of the 587 cases to date. That will probably take 7 or 8 posts for it all to be released, so I'll probably do two posts a day with Texas to avoid spamming the sub. At the end of this year, I'll repost the states that have conducted further executions with the updated information.
As with Missouri and Virginia, Reddit's maximum character count limitations forced me to divide Oklahoma's list into two separate parts. Here is the link to part 2.
The currently 124 executed offenders, cases 1 to 62:
1. Charles Coleman (~1950s-1990, lethal injection): A month after he was released on parole in 1979, Coleman broke into a house. While sacking it for any valuables, the homeowner’s brother and sister in law, 68 year old John and 62 year old Roxie Seward, walked in on him and were both shot dead. Coleman stole Roxie’s purse, several packets of frozen meat, and the homeowner’s watch during the burglary, and was arrested shortly afterwards. However, Coleman managed to escape custody, and went on a rampage that involved several burglaries, auto thefts, slitting the throat of a policeman in a failed murder attempt, the shooting death of 49 year old Russell Lewis Jr. in a carjacking, and the abduction of a deputy. The kidnapped deputy was rescued following an armed standoff with other police officers. Coleman had an extensive history of animal cruelty, armed robberies, assaults, and carrying concealed weapons convictions dating back to when he was 11 years old. He was also heavily suspected in the murder of his teenage girlfriend’s father, but was acquitted by the courts despite the prosecution’s strong belief in his guilt.
2. Robyn Parks (1977-1992, lethal injection): During a gas station robbery, Parks shot and killed Abdullah Ibrahim, a 24 year old Bangladeshi immigrant that worked as the attendant. According to Parks, he murdered Ibrahim for catching him using a stolen credit card.
3. Olan Randle (1980-1992, lethal injection): Randle invaded a home and shot the occupants, 41 year old Robert Swinford, Sinford's fiance 42 year old Averil Bourque, and Bourque's friend 38 year old Julia Lovejoy, dead. He took a pocket knife and several watches from the victims.
4. Thomas Grasso (~1970s(?)-1995, lethal injection): While living in Oklahoma, Grasso strangled 87 year old Hilda Johnson, the best friend of his girlfriend's grandmother, to death with her Christmas lights. He took $8 from her purse, several coins that added up to $4, and a television set that he sold for $125. Grasso then moved to New York, and strangled 81 year old Leslie Holtz for his social security check. The trialing arrangements caused some controversy, as the New York governors at the time were anti death penalty, and tried to prevent Grasso's extradition in favor of giving him a life sentence in their jurisdiction. Grasso had several previous convictions for theft and was fired multiple times for stealing from his jobs.
5. Roger Stafford (~1974(?)-1995, lethal injection): Stafford was condemned for killing at least 9 people in two separate robbery incidents with his brother and ex wife, though his ex wife claimed that he was involved with as many as 34 murders nationwide. The first convicted incident was when he and the ex wife carjacked and fatally shot a couple, 38 year old Melvin and 31 year old Linda Lorenz, and their son, 12 year old Richard. A few weeks after the Lorenz murders, Stafford stormed a restaurant and gunned down 6 employees, 56 year old Isaac Freeman, 43 year old Louis Zacarias, 17 year old Anthony Tew, 17 year old David Lindsey, 16 year old David Salsman, and 15 year old Terri Horst. One of Stafford's additional attributed victims was 20 year old Jimmy Berry, who was killed in the hold up of an Alabaman McDonalds, but he wasn't charged by the state due to his death sentences in Oklahoma.
6. Robert Brecheen (1983-1995, lethal injection): Breechen was involved in a feud over money with 59 year old Mary Stubbs and her husband. In an attempt to take what he perceived was owed to him, Breechen carried out a night time burglary of their home. While rummaging through the house, Breechen stumbled upon old Marie in her living room and shot her to death. The gunshots and screams awoke her husband, and he chased him away with his own gun.
7. Benjamin Brewer (1978-1996, lethal injection): Brewer raped his neighbor, 20 year old Karen Stapleton, in her home and stabbed her to death
8. Steven Hatch (1979-1996, lethal injection): Hatch and another assailant, Glen Ake, forced themselves inside the home that Richard Dougass, a 43 year old reverend, shared with his wife, 36 year old Marilyn, and their two children, 16 year old Brooks and 12 year old Lesile. The pair tied up the family and raped Lesile in front of her parents and brother. All four family members were shot, and Hatch and Ake ran off with $43 and the parents’ wedding rings. Richard and Marilyn were both killed in the shootings, while their children survived the attack. Ake was also initially condemned for the attack, but his sentence was overturned and resentenced to life following mental health concerns, and passed away from undisclosed natural causes in 2011.
9. Scott Carpenter (1994-1997, lethal injection): In a convenience store robbery, Carpenter stabbed the owner, 56 year old A. J. Kelley, in the neck, and hid the body in the minnow room. He filled his truck with $37 worth of gas from the pumps and drove away from the scene. His execution caused some controversy, as it was reported that Carpenter gasped and spasmed for 11 minutes after being injected.
10. Michael Long (1997-1998, lethal injection): Enraged that his coworker, 24 year old Sheryl Graber, refused him sex and started screaming for help, he stabbed her over 31 times. Long also shot and killed her son, 5 year old Andrew, for being a witness.
11. Stephen Wood (1992-1998, lethal injection): While heavily intoxicated, Wood stabbed two other homeless men, 46 year old Charles Stephen and 34 year old Charles Von Johnson, dozens of times each. He was given a life sentence for both of their murders. During his incarceration, Robert Brigden, a 59 year old former minister that was serving a 40 year sentence for molesting several girls between the ages of 4-14 in his congregation, moved into his unit after refusing to go into protective custody. Woods killed Brigden in a stabbing attack, and his sentence was escalated to death by the courts for it.
12. Tuan Anh Nguyen (~1982-1998, lethal injection): By all accounts, Nguyen was jealously possessive over his wife, 21 year old Donna. During one of their arguments over his behavior, he stabbed Donna, her 6 year old nephew Joseph White, and her 3 year old niece Amanda White, in their home and left the bodies to be found by the children’s parents. He fled to Arizona, groomed a 14 year old girl into an illicit “relationship”, and impregnated her. After he convinced her to move in with him, Nguyen physically and sexually abused the girl until she fled and went to the local police for help. Nguyen was then deported back to Oklahoma to face trial for Donna and the White children’s slayings, and was sentenced to death for them.
13. John Duvall (1986-1998, lethal injection): During a fight with his wife, 30 year old Donna, Duvall stabbed and suffocated her to death with a pillow.
14. John Castro Sr. (1983-1999, lethal injection): Castro carjacked Beulah Cox, a 31 year old Oklahoma State University student, after she picked him up hitchhiking and shot her to death. A few months later, Castro held up a restaurant with an empty pistol, and attacked the manger, 29 year old Rhonda Pappan, after forcing her to open the register. During their struggle, Pappan was fatally stabbed, and he took off with her purse. During his mid teens, Castro was allegedly molested by his mother. Castro's attorneys made the argument that his glimpses of Cox's buttocks reminded him of his mother's reported abuse, and he was triggered into attacking her for it.
15. Sean Sellers (1985-1999, lethal injection): In 1985, a then 15 year old Sellers tried to buy beer from a convenience store, but the clerk, 32 year old Robert Bower, denied him due to being underaged at the time. Sellers gunned him down in a fit of rage. A year later, Sellers shot and killed his mother, 32 year old Vonda Bellofatto, and stepfather, 43 year old Paul, in their sleep. Due to being 16 at the time of his conviction, Sellers remains the youngest condemned offender to have his sentence carried out in the post Furman era. He also attracted national media attention for claiming that his crimes were the result of demonic possession.
16. Scotty Moore (1983-1999, lethal injection): Moore was fired from a motel for undisclosed reasons. In retaliation, Moore and a cousin (whom he was dating at the time), assaulted the motel, and gunned down the desk clerk, 42 year old Alex Fernandez. According to court documents, the pair took a total of $97 in the robbery.
17. Norman Newsted (1984-1999, lethal injection): Newsted tricked Lawrence Buckley, a 26 year old cab driver, into picking him up. He shot Buckley dead and took his wallet. In an attempt to cover his tracks, Newsted placed the body inside the cab, and drove it into a creek near a local church. Despite his best efforts, Buckley’s cab and remains were discovered a day later by the church’s pastor.
18. Cornel Cooks (1982-1999, lethal injection): Cooks and his accomplice broke into the home of 87 year old Jennie Ridling. She was gagged, raped, and suffocated to death with gauze wrappings. According to autopsy reports, the pair abused her for over 2 hours. They then sacked the house for any valuables and left with her checkbook.
19. Bobby Ross (1983-1999, lethal injection): While robbing an inn, Ross fatally shot a police officer, 30 year old Steve Mahan, that tried to intervene.
20. Malcolm Johnson (~1970s(?)-2000, lethal injection): Johnson invaded the apartment of 76 year old Ura Thompson and sexually assaulted her. Thompson either died from having her chest compounded during the abuse or was suffocated by Johnson’s hands covering her nose. He seized several possessions such as furs, typewriters, purse, watch, rings, and a hand mirror, which were discovered by police in his residence during an unrelated investigation of a firearms possession charge. Johnson had an extensive criminal history, which included several convictions of rape, armed robberies, and burglaries. The case attracted controversy when it was discovered that the lead chemist in the investigation misconducted several of her other cases, and forged some of the evidence used in the trial. Despite the other overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Johnson’s supporters took the opportunity to push a narrative of his innocence.
21. Gary Walker (~1960s-2000, lethal injection): Walker abducted, raped, and murdered at least 5 women, 36 year old Margaret Lydick, 35 year old Jane Hilburn, 32 year old Janet Jewell, 25 year old Valerie Shaw-Hartzell, and 24 year old DeRonda Roy, and non fatally assaulted several other women and teenage girls. The victims were mostly strangled to death with their bras and panties. Some of them were forced to withdraw hundreds of dollars from ATMs before they were killed. He also strangled a man, 63 year old Eddie Cash, with an electrical cord while robbing his home. Walker had dozens of previous convictions for burglary, carjacking, drug possession, and carrying concealed weapons. Some of his earliest arrests occurred when he was a teenager.
22. Michael Roberts (~1988-2000, lethal injection): A career burglar, Roberts was condemned for murder of 80 year old Lula Brooks. She was raped and her throat was slit by an intruder in her home. Roberts' death sentence and execution has been contested, as he was convicted on his later recounted testimony alone. He claimed that the investigators tricked him into confessing with the promise of a plea deal that was allegedly withheld from him.
23. Kelly Rogers (1990-2000, lethal injection): Rogers’ girlfriend lured 21 year old Karen Lauffenburger into her apartment with a fake pizza order. They accosted her when she arrived with the delivery. After the couple forced Lauffenburger to hand to over the $40 she earned from the night's pizza deliveries and withdraw $175 from an ATM, Rogers raped and stabbed her to death. The body was left in Lauffenburger’s apartment and was found by her boyfriend.

25. Charles Foster (~1980s(?)-2000, lethal injection): Foster suspected a grocery store owner, 74 year old Claude Wiley, of making sexual advances at his wife. He arranged for her to entice Wiley to their home with an order. When he arrived with the delivery, Foster stabbed and bludgeoned him to death with a baseball bat. He a history of convictions involving threats and violence, though my sources didn’t disclose any specific details.
26. James Robedeaux (1978-2000, lethal injection): In 1978, Robedeaux strangled his first wife, 30 year old Linda, and plead guilty to a second degree murder charges. He was released after serving 6 out of a 25 year sentence despite an escape attempt. In the following year, he began a relationship with 37 year old Nancy McKinney while he married a different woman. During an argument, Robedeaux beat McKinney to death, dismembered her body with a saw and machete, and scattered the remains across the state. While being investigated for McKinney's murder, he was arrested for choking and beating his estranged second wife. The cases were incidental and kept separate by the courts.
27. Roger Berget (~1985-2000, lethal injection): Berget carjacked and abducted 33 year old Rick Patterson with an accomplice, and shot him dead. He also admitted to the beating death of a roommate, 40 year old James Meadows, on the behalf of the man's wife. As a trivial side note, Berget's brother Rodney was executed in 2018 by the state of South Dakota for killing a prison guard [for more information, please see Rodney Berget's entry under the South Dakota section of my states with less then 10 executions post].
28. William Bryson (1988-2000, lethal injection): To collect a $300,000 life insurance policy, Marilyn Plantz recruited her boyfriend Byrson and his friend to kill her husband, 33 year old James. Byrson and his friend ambushed Plantz in his house as he was coming home from work and beat him to death with a baseball bat. With the intentions of staging an accident, Marilyn ordered the pair to burn the body in the couple's pickup truck.

30. George Wallace (~1970s-2000, lethal injection): Known as "the Mad Paddler" due to his habit of spanking abducted preteen and teenage boys with a wooden paddle, Wallace kidnapped his victims by posing as a police officer. After duping his targets into thinking that they were being arrested, Wallace restrained them with handcuffs and leg chains. The captives were then sexually abused and shot or stabbed to death. His crimes were exposed when an 18 year old man he abducted escaped from him despite being shot and stabbed numerous times. By his own admission, Wallace murdered 18 year old Thomas Reed, 15 year old William Domer, 14 year old Mark McLaughlin, 14 year old Jeffrey Foster, and 12 year old Alonzo Cade.
31. Eddie Trice (1987-2001, lethal injection): Trice snuck into the home of 84 year old Ernestine Jones and raped her. After he beat Jones to death with numbchucks, he terrorized and extorted her cognitively disabled son of $500 with threats of killing him if he told anyone of the murder. The son was also assaulted with a hammer, and he received injuries to his right eye, right cheekbone, and his right forearm.
32. Wanda Allen (~1981-2001, lethal injection): In 1981, Allen got into a fight with her live in girlfriend, 21 year old Dedra Pettus, and shot her dead. Despite giving a bungled story about her being accidentally killed in a shootout with Pettus’ ex boyfriend to the investigators, Allen managed to secure a 4 year sentence for manslaughter after pleading guilty to a plea deal, and was released after serving two years. While incarcerated, she started dating a fellow inmate, 29 year old Gloria Leathers, and continued their relationship outside of prison. The couple’s relationship was marred with extreme domestic violence on Allen’s end. In one incident, Allen struck Leathers with a rake. In 1989, while they were arguing in front of a shopping center, Allen shot and killed Leathers. Leathers herself also had history of violence, and had a conviction for stabbing a woman to death. Allen and her defense team tried to use Leathers’ previous convictions to make a self defense argument, but that was shot down by the courts.
33. Floyd Medlock (1990-2001, lethal injection): 7 year old Katherine Busch went to visit her family's old apartment, which Medlock was residing in, by herself. Busch knocked on the door and Medlock let her inside after she begged for food. He then choked and sexually assaulted the girl, dunked her head in a toilet bowl, and stabbed her to death. The body was hidden in a nearby dumpster. Busch's grandmothers were staunch pro capital punishment and anti death penalty activists respectively, and their public feud over Medlock's sentence and execution attracted some media attention. Medlock also had an extensive criminal history despite being only 19 at the time of Busch's murder, and was previously arrested several times for indecent exposure, arson, armed robbery, and marijuana possession.
34. Dion Smallwood (1992-2001, lethal injection): Smallwood walked into the home of his ex girlfriend's adoptive stepmother, 68 year old Lois Frederick, without invitation. He had a tumultuous and often violent relationship with her adopted stepdaughter that she strongly opposed, and they broke up under her pressure. After an argument, Smallwood knocked Frederick unconscious with a croquet mallet, locked her in a car, and burned her alive in it.
35. Mark Fowler (1985-2001, lethal injection): To get back at his ex employers for firing him, Fowler and his partner, Billy Fox, stormed a supermarket that he used to work out. The pair rounded up 3 employees, Chumpon Chaowasin, a 44 year old Thai immigrant, 33 year old Rick Cast, and 27 year old John Barrier, at gun point. She was raped, trapped in the trunk of a car, and burned alive in it. Although she was rescued, Hawley died from her injuries 6 hours later. The pair stole Hawley's wedding ring and Lafevers gifted it to a stripper. As Hawley's nephew was a Colorado state senator, her murder gained some attention from media outlets.
38. Dorsie Jones Jr. (1979-2001, lethal injection): While drinking at a bar, a barmaid chastised Jones for carrying an unconcealed gun. They then hung the body in an attempt to make it look like a suicide. Berry was another party in the theft of government property case, and James and his accomplices believed that it was his testimony that got them arrested.
43. Vincent Johnson (1991-2001, lethal injection): Johnson gunned down 44 year old Shirley Mooneyham in her home. The prosecution believed that Mooneyham's boyfriend arranged the killing to collect a life insurance policy, but he was acquitted at trial.
44. Jerald Harjo (~1980s-2001, lethal injection): Harjo snuck into the bedroom of 64 year old Ruth Porter, raped her, and suffocated her with a pillowcase. He then snatched Porter's car keys and drove off with her van. His past criminal history was extensive, and was in prison numerous times for burglary and autotheft.

Inside the home, she was taunted by Smith with a gun, and was shot 7 times in the chest and 2 times in the back of the head. While her son was reloading the gun, Smith jumped on and crushed Bailee's throat.
48. Sahib Lateef Al-Mosawi (1992-2001, lethal injection): Following a dispute over their newborn son's name, Al-Mosawi's estranged wife, 26 year old Inaam Al-Nashi, fled to the apartment of her uncle, 45 year old Mohammed. Al-Mosaw attacked the pair in the apartment and stabbed them to death. Inaam's sister was also stabbed, but she managed to escape with her life. The couple and their families were refugees from Iraq that were displaced by the First Persian Gulf War, and they fled into the United States.
49. John Romano (1985-2002, lethal injection): Romano and his accomplice David Woodruff robbed and murdered two of their acquaintances. One of the victims, 63 year old Lloyd Thompson, was attacked in his apartment. Thompson was held down by the pair while they stabbed him 22 times and served his spinal cord. The other victim, 52 year old Roger Sarfaty, was tied up, beaten, stabbed 5 times, and strangled to death in a jewelry store he owned. In the robberies, Romano and Woodruff stole several pieces of jewelry from Sarfaty, and took most of Thompson’s quarter collection.

51. Randall Cannon (1985-2002, lethal injection): Cannon assisted Loyd Lafevers in abducting, sexually assaulting, and burning Addie Hawley alive in her car. Although he was acquitted of molesting Hawley, Cannon was still condemned for his part in the kidnapping and murder.
52. Earl Frederick Sr. (~1989-2002, lethal injection): Frederick beat Bradford Beck, a 41 year old veteran that was crippled during his service in the Vietnam war, to death in his home after befriending him. He ransacked the house and dumped Beck's body in a field. A second murder, the robbery and shooting death of a Texan man, 77 year old Shirley Fox, was also tied to him. However, authorities in Texas withheld from prosecuting Fredrick due to his death penalty trial and conviction in Oklahoma. Both Fox and Beck had physical disabilities, which led prosecutors to the conclusion that Frederick intentionally selected and depredated on disabled men.
53. Jerry McCracken (~1980s(?)-2002, lethal injection): McCracken and his accomplice shot up a bar, killed 3 patrons and the bartender, and made off with $350. The victims that lost their lives were 41 year old Carol McDaniels, 37 year old Timothy Sheets, 34 year old Steven Sheets, and 27 year old Tyrrell Boyd. Neill's boyfriend was given a life sentence for the robbery and murders, despite not being directly involved.
55. Ernest Carter Jr. (~1989-2002, lethal injection): After being fired from an autoshop, Carter robbed it with an accomplice, and fatally shot a security guard, 35 year old Eugene Manowski. The pair stole the shop's tow truck, and later tried to burn it with Carter's girlfriend to destroy any traces of the crime. Carter was also previously accused of burning a friend to death in the previous year, but the charges were dismissed.
56. Daniel Revilla (1987-2003, lethal injection): While babysitting his girlfriend's son, 13 month old Mark Gomez, in their home, Revilla broke the boy’s ribs in a beating and scalded him with boiling water. When he brought the boy to a hospital, Revilla gave a story that he accidentally hit Gomez’s head with a door handle, which was quickly seen through by the staff. According to the accounts of his girlfriend and her family, Revilla was violently abusive to Gomez, and they recounted incidents of him trapping the boy in a kitchen drawer, dunking him in cold water, folding him into a pull up bed, and hanging him by his ankles with duct tape.
57. Bobby Fields (~1990s-2003, lethal injection): Fields shot and killed 77 year old Louise Schem while burglarizing her home. She had tried to shot him with her .25 calibre pistol, but he wrestled the gun away from her, and gunned her down with it. In a fit of anger, he fatally shot 18 year old Alta Lang, and wounded two other partygoers. Due to the witnesses refusing to cooperate with the investigation and being unable to prove any calculated intentions, Hooker was given a manslaughter conviction, and released a few years later. After he was paroled, Hooker started dating Sylvia Stokes, and fathered several children with her. Their troubled relationship lasted for 8 years, and ended when Stokes filed a protection order against him. In retaliation, Hooker lured Stokes and her mother, 53 year old Durcilla Morgan, into his apartment and stabbed them both to death.
60. Scot Hain (~1980s-2003, lethal injection): Hain carjacked and abducted a couple, 27 year old Michael Houghton and 22 year old Laura Sanders. After taking $565 and some bags of clothing, he forced them into the trunk of their car at gunpoint, and burned them alive in it. 61. Don Hawkins Jr. (1985-2003, lethal injection): Hawkins kidnapped 29 year old Linda Ann Thompson and her two daughters, aged 4 years old and 18 months old, from a mall. Although his original intentions were to ransom off Thompson and her children, Hawkins gang raped the captive woman with his cousin and his girlfriend's teenage nephew, and drowned her in a lake. Thompson's children were spared and simply left with a babysitter. Hawkins and his accomplice then went on a nation wide rampage with his accomplice that involved the abductions and rapes of several grown women and teenage girls, hanging 31 year old David Coupez of Colorado in his home while robbing him, and countless other robberies.
62. Larry Jackson (~1984-2003, lethal injection): In 1984, Jackson shot and killed his girlfriend, 19 year old Freda Washington. He accepted a plea deal that dumbed down the charges to second degree murder, and was given a 30 year sentence for it. During his incarceration, Jackson started a relationship with 29 year old Wendy Cade. Despite her promises of marriage after his release, Cade left him for another man, and they got engaged. When Jackson was assigned to a prison work crew, he snuck out and went to confront Cade. Reportedly, the two had bought alchool, cocaine, and cigerates together and had sex in Cade's apartment. However, they got into an argument, and he slashed Cade's throat and stabbed her 31 times with box cutters. Jackson then left with her jewelry, watch, and the keys to her jeep.

🔗Lost Ranger UL 3N1 Ultralight 15 Degree Sleeping Bag

https://preview.redd.it/tci5h8wejdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0be940d2589517697ab6deb46e68203e860f5d51
The Lost Ranger UL 3N1 15 Deg sleeping bag isn't just an ordinary sleeping bag; it's your ultra-lightweight, all-in-one camping companion. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and it's become an essential part of my outdoor gear. The first thing that stands out is its ultralight nylon rip-stop outer. It's like sleeping on a cloud, yet it's sturdy and durable. You might think it's quite a feat to strike that balance, but the Lost Ranger UL has it down pat.
The 850 Fill Power responsibly sourced DownTek down is another feature that makes this bag stand out. It's not your typical down; it has a PFC-free water repellent treatment, keeping you dry in unexpected damp situations. I recently had a camping trip in a rather wet environment, and this bag truly surpassed my expectations.
One of the unique aspects of this sleeping bag is its roomy inner bag that's perfect for side sleepers. It gives you enough space to move around without feeling claustrophobic, unlike other mummy-shaped bags. The three-quarter, anti-snag ambidextrous zipper provides easy access in and out of the bag, adding to its overall comfort.
The no-draft collar, no-draft wedge, and two no-draft, anti-snag dual side zippers create a snug and cozy environment, ensuring warmth and insulation even when camping in colder temperatures. The anti snag zipper with a glow-in-the-dark zipper pull adds a convenient feature, making it easier to navigate in the dark.
The pillow holder on the pad sleeve is a nice touch too, taking care of your pillow needs. The Insotect Flow vertical baffles keep the airflow smooth, minimizing any cold spots and ensuring a comfortable night's sleep.
The storage sack & stuff sack included are practical additions, making it easy to store and transport the bag. It also takes up minimal space, which is a significant bonus for backpackers or those heading out on long camping trips.
However, there are a few things that could be improved. The one-time use nature of the product might not appeal to everyone, especially those who prefer a more durable, long-lasting product. It's also on the pricier side, which might deter some potential buyers from making a purchase.
Overall, the Lost Ranger UL 3N1 15 Deg is a high-quality, versatile, and comfortable sleeping bag that's perfect for three-season camping, backpacking, and more. It's lightweight, easy to use, and comes complete with a range of convenient features. While it has its pros and cons, I believe the pros outweigh the cons, making this a highly recommended product for anyone venturing out into the great outdoors.

🔗Big Agnes Women's Roxy Ann 3N1 15 Sleeping Bag: Lightweight, Water-Resistant, and Cozy

https://preview.redd.it/lx4ryibfjdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f37e9e87b4a8c2f706ecf46f6736db0b1c094412

I recently had the chance to test out the Big Agnes Women's Roxy Ann 15 Sleeping Bag, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! This bag provides the perfect combination of warmth and comfort, making it an ideal choice for camping or backpacking trips.
One feature that really stood out to me was the offset quilting, which helps minimize cold spots and ensures maximum thermal efficiency. The roomy rectangular shape also contributed to the bag's overall coziness, allowing for a comfortable night's sleep.
Another highlight was the inner bag, which mimics the award-winning Sidewinder sleeping bag. The jacket-style hood provided excellent head coverage and kept me warm throughout the night. The compression sack proved convenient for packing, though it didn't quite reach the ideal size.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks to mention. The sidewinder insert's center zip seemed to catch on the fabric, causing some annoyance during use. Additionally, the pillow barn suffered from staining, even after trying to wash it out.
Overall, the Big Agnes Women's Roxy Ann 15 Sleeping Bag delivered a comfortable, warm, and versatile camping experience. Despite minor drawbacks, I would definitely consider using it again on future trips.

🔗Comfortable and Insulated Big Agnes Rock Creek Sleeping Bag for Women

https://preview.redd.it/hf4evnqfjdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d400e907d534be5c57f6bef9c3262bfa549bdc3
I recently tested out the Big Agnes Women's Mirror Lake 20 Sleeping Bag for a camping trip, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The beautiful color combination of blue and green really caught my eye, and the petite right size fit me perfectly. Once inside the bag, I immediately appreciated the warmth and coziness provided by the DownTek 600 fill-power down. The water-repellent finish was a game-changer, as it kept me dry even during a few unexpected rain showers.
One feature that stood out to me was the streamlined silhouette, which hugged my figure and ensured I stayed warm in the chilly night. The baffle construction also evenly distributed heat, preventing any cold spots. The inclusion of various features like a hood, liner loops, hang loops, no-draft collar, and no-draft zipper made for a comfortable and personalized sleeping experience. The bag even came with a nylon stuff sack and mesh storage sack, which made transporting and storing it a breeze.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience using the Big Agnes Women's Mirror Lake 20 Sleeping Bag. However, there was one aspect that could use improvement - the zipper was quite tricky to handle, making it a bit frustrating at times. Nevertheless, the pros outweighed the cons, and I would highly recommend this sleeping bag to anyone seeking warmth and comfort on their outdoor adventures.

🔗Comfortable, Lightweight Sleeping Bag for All Outdoor Adventures

https://preview.redd.it/rb3xb93gjdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=371f9717b18b8d2fdef1798d5895a4ec51571e6f
First, let me share with you my experience of using the Big Agnes Lost Dog 45°. I've been using this product for months now, and it has become my go-to sleeping bag for camping and backpacking. I must say, the roomy rectangle-shaped sleeping space and the integrated Flex Pad Sleeve make it so much more comfortable compared to other sleeping bags I've used before.
One thing that I love about this product is the fact that it is made from technical fabrics and construction, with 100% recycled, super-warm insulation. It's impressive to know that we're not only getting a comfortable sleeping bag but also contributing to a greener environment.
However, there's one downside to using this product - the anti-snag zipper could be more convenient. Sometimes, it takes a bit of effort to close the zipper, which can be frustrating during those cold and lazy camping mornings. Other than that, I have nothing but praise for this product.
All in all, the Big Agnes Lost Dog 45° is a comfortable, lightweight, and eco-friendly product that has become an essential part of my camping and backpacking gear.

🔗Big Agnes V Notch UL 40 Sleeping Bag for Thru-Hikers

https://preview.redd.it/hfakrmggjdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9bbb2dfbf208b681a6da79e6532597b5421986e
Recently, I had the chance to try out the Big Agnes V Notch UL 40 Degree Sleeping Bag, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The sleeping bag is lightweight, coming in at just 1.5 pounds, making it perfect for those on-the-go backpackers or those counting every ounce.
What really stood out to me was the synthetic insulation, made from PrimaLoft Hi-Loft Ultra Silver. This insulation offers excellent warmth, even when wet, unlike down insulation. The water-repellent coating on the ripstop nylon shell also ensured my insulation stayed dry even during more humid conditions.
One minor drawback, however, was the zipper. While the full-length zipper made opening the bag easy, the two separate zippers made it a bit tricky to fully open it when I wanted more airflow.
All in all, I had a great camping experience with the Big Agnes V Notch UL 40 Degree Sleeping Bag, and I can confidently recommend it for anyone looking for a durable, lightweight, and versatile sleeping bag.

🔗Big Agnes Sidewinder Camp 20 Degree: Ultralight Mummy Sleeping Bag

https://preview.redd.it/nyk2qubjjdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17d136c6c513d3e0893875e82792e504762a6f36
If you're a side sleeper, finding the perfect camping bag can be a frustrating mission - that is, until you stumble upon the Big Agnes Sidewinder Camp 20 Degree sleeping bag. Designed specifically for side sleepers, this bag provides exceptional comfort and warmth without cramping your style.
The first thing you'll notice about this bag is its fit. Unlike some other sleeping bags that can be restrictive and uncomfortable, the Sidewinder is plush, featuring a relaxed cocoon style pattern that allows the bag to mimic the shape of your body. This helps keep the insulation close to you, preventing cold air pockets that can make you feel chilled.
Another standout feature is the two-layer quilting. The bag drapes around your body, creating a cozy, 360-degree wrap. This quilt-like construction not only looks and feels great, but it also makes the bag more efficient at trapping warmth.
One of my favorite aspects of this bag is the integrated hood and draft collar. These features work together to keep you nice and toasty, regardless of your sleeping position. Added to this, the hand-pouches ensure that your hands stay warm and toasty throughout the night.
The Sidewinder doesn't compromise on practicality either. The pillow stays in place, tucked inside the hood for easy adjustment, and the insulated draft tube behind the zipper keeps cold air out.
Available in both regular and long sizes, the Big Agnes Sidewinder Camp 20 Degree sleeping bag is a must-have for any serious camper who values a good night's sleep. However, it's not perfect, with the occasional snagging issue with the zipper. Overall, though, it's a comfortable, practical, and warm choice for side sleepers.

🔗Big Agnes Elsie 15 Degree Sleeping Bag for Women - Lightweight and Comfortable Synthetic Insulation

https://preview.redd.it/dcgqxsujjdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fad47bb397713f5f3b8c68dcc139649d22771da3
As a proud owner of the Big Agnes Elsie 15 Degree Women's sleeping bag, I've had the pleasure of using it on multiple camping trips this season. This mummy-style sleeping bag is designed with the perfect blend of insulation, weight, and style, making it an ideal choice for both seasoned campers and casual weekend warriors.
The Big Agnes Elsie 15 Degree Women's sleeping bag is crafted with top-quality materials, including a nylon ripstop shell and a soft polyester taffeta lining. I've found that the blend of nylon and polyester provides the perfect balance between strength, durability, and coziness, which is truly a game-changer when it comes to sleeping in the great outdoors.
The insulation used in this sleeping bag is the Fireline Pro synthetic insulation, which is designed to keep you warm even in damp conditions. This feature has proven to be particularly helpful on those misty, autumn mornings, where traditional cotton insulation would have left me shivering.
One of the standout features of this sleeping bag is its mummy cut, which has effectively minimized the weight and maximized thermal efficiency. This means that I'm not weighed down by excessive padding or hefty materials while still maintaining a snug and cozy sleeping experience.
Another key highlight of the Big Agnes Elsie 15 Degree Women's sleeping bag is its tailored design, which was specifically created to accommodate the unique body shapes of female campers. The hip girth on this bag is wider, allowing for a more comfortable and natural fit, and the overall bag length is shorter to ensure optimal heat retention.
While I've had an overall positive experience with this sleeping bag, it's not without its minor drawbacks. One of the few issues I've encountered is the noise it makes when moving around during the night. This, however, is a common concern among sleeping bag users and can easily be mitigated by using a thicker pad or adjusting my movements accordingly.
Another minor issue is the occasional difficulty in zipping the bag due to the insulation fabric getting stuck on the zipper. This is a universal issue with bags, and I've found that the problem has lessened with use as the zipper has broken in.
In conclusion, the Big Agnes Elsie 15 Degree Women's sleeping bag has been a fantastic addition to my camping gear arsenal. It offers the perfect blend of insulation, weight, and tailored fit for women campers like me. While there are minor drawbacks, the overall experience has been nothing short of satisfying, and I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone seeking a reliable and comfortable sleeping companion for their outdoor adventures.

🔗Big Agnes Women's Torchlight 20 Sleeping Bag: Versatile and Comfortable

https://preview.redd.it/su1z5k7ljdwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=293ae3d11c917809d738d3c903482c1d005a84d3
I've been using the Big Agnes Women's Torchlight 20 Degree sleeping bag for a while now and I have to say, it's been a life-saver on my camping trips. The first thing that stood out was the weather-resistant treated down insulation, which has performed incredibly well even in wet or damp conditions. The expandability of the bag gives you the versatility to have a more roomy interior or a tighter, cozier fit, depending on the situation.
The bag's size has allowed for a perfectly snug fit and the ability to move around comfortably inside, thanks to the expandable panels. However, the zipper location was slightly annoying, I found myself bending over just to get in and out of the bag at times. Overall, this sleeping bag has proven to be worth the investment for anyone looking for warmth, comfort, and style on their camping adventures.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Big Agnes Sidewinder Camp 35 sleeping bag, and I must say, it has become a staple in my camping gear collection. As a side sleeper, I was initially skeptical about how comfortable this bag would feel during the night, but I was pleasantly surprised.
One feature that stood out was the cocoon-style design of the bag. It allowed the bag to flex with my movements, never feeling restrictive. The horizontal baffles created tunnels of warmth around my body, preventing insulation from shifting and creating cold spots. This was especially noticeable in the hood area, which has a one-handed cinch adjustment that lets you lift and move your head comfortably even when fully zipped up.
The insulation in the bag is made of premium FireLine ECO synthetic insulation, an environmentally-conscious lightweight, compressible fill that retains its ability to keep me warm in damp or wet conditions. The nylon ripstop shell fabric with a DWR finish did a great job of protecting against the elements, while the polyester taffeta lining enhanced my overall comfort.
Now, there is one aspect of the bag that I found less than ideal: the zipper. It's not snag-free, and I found myself repeatedly getting the baffle material caught in the zipper, which was quite frustrating. Overall, though, the pros outweighed the cons for me, and I would highly recommend the Big Agnes Sidewinder Camp 35 sleeping bag to any side sleeper looking for a reliable and warm camping companion.

Using the Big Agnes Rock Creek Sleeping Bag in my backpacking adventures has been a game-changer. The compressible and water-resistant insulation provided by the DownTek fill kept me warm and cozy during the chilly nights while also preventing my pad from moving.
The lightweight polyester shell with a water-repellent finish added an extra layer of protection against the elements. And the Flex Pad Sleeve and Free Range Footbox made it easier to move around without feeling constricted.

🔗Big Agnes Torchlight Camp 20 Sleeping Bag - Compact and Lightweight for Warmth

The Big Agnes Torchlight Camp 20 sleeping bag is a versatile companion for my 3-season camping trips. It features a unique mummy style with built-in expandability, which allows me to have maximum comfort and control over my sleeping environment.
One of the standout features for me is the FireLine Pro insulation, made from post-consumer recycled high loft fibers. It retains its warmth even in damp conditions – a perfect environmentally-conscious solution. I also appreciate the shell made of ripstop nylon with a DWR finish, which adds an extra layer of protection against the elements.
While the Big Agnes Torchlight Camp 20 doesn't boast the highest compression volume or the lightest fill weight, it ensures that extra warmth and comfort are never compromised when camping. The bag's girth is expandable with side panels that run from my shoulders to my feet, allowing me to choose between thermal efficiency and extra room.
A noteworthy downside was the zippers, which seemed to catch on clothing and fabric when trying to adjust the bag in the dark. Although I found the no-draft zipper to be an efficient feature, the rest of the zippers could benefit from some improvements.
Overall, the Big Agnes Torchlight Camp 20 is a cozy and reliable companion suited for various camping conditions, and its expandable versatility warrants a solid investment.

https://preview.redd.it/06g9orqqddwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=399239fbb0e8a28320605bf8bca729c938363bab
Every winter I find myself battling the chill of my sleeping bag, so when I tried the Big Agnes Wool Sleeping Bag Liner, it was a game-changer. Made of a blend of cozy New Zealand Merino wool and sturdy nylon, this liner adds warmth to even the chilliest winter nights.
One of the standout features of this liner is its minimalist cinch hood closure. It's easy to draw in and helps retain heat when it gets cold. The integrated hooks at the head and foot of the liner enable a secure connection to most sleeping bag liner loops. It's perfect for those who want to add an extra layer of warmth without the hassle of additional accessories.
Now let's talk about the downside. The liner features a zipper closure which, while functional, can feel a bit cumbersome when you're trying to get into your sleeping bag in the dark. It adds a bit of bulk when packed, but it's nothing that a camper won't be able to handle.
As a lover of warm nights, I highly recommend the Big Agnes Wool Sleeping Bag Liner. It's a fantastic addition to any sleeping bag and will keep you toasty all season long. Just remember to give that zipper a bit of slack when you're getting ready for bed!

🔗Big Agnes Deep Creek Tarp - Medium (3-Season, 150 ft² Floor Area)

https://preview.redd.it/zs2qlj7rddwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07081e031fc4f1254110e158b101d633425571be
Imagine yourself setting up camp in the great outdoors, surrounded by nature's beauty, and not having to worry about the elements. That's where the Big Agnes Deep Creek Tarp Medium comes in - a reliable and versatile shelter that keeps you dry and comfortable.
Making use of its two aluminum poles and multi-loop guy-out points, setting up the tarp is a breeze. The fully sealed seams ensure that water stays out, while the reflective guy lines keep you safe at night. I found the medium size to be the perfect fit for a standard state park-length picnic table.
The only downside I experienced was when trying to set up the tarp with the bug net attachment. Initially, it took some trial and error to get it right, but once I figured it out, it worked beautifully.
Overall, the Big Agnes Deep Creek Tarp Medium is a well-crafted and practical shelter suitable for a variety of camping situations. Its durability, ease of setup, and protection from the elements make it a valuable addition to your camping gear.

🔗Big Agnes Sunbeam Sleeping Bag - Lightweight, Rectangular Shape, and Insulated for Backpacking

https://preview.redd.it/1fkh04jrddwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05b508fabbac5176ad95777d5a645492b36aa5a4
As a backpacker, I've gone through my fair share of sleeping bags, but the Big Agnes Women's Sunbeam has become my go-to for those chilly nights. The rectangular shape provides ample room for my shoulders and hips, while still offering heat insulation around my body. I've tested this bag in various temperatures and found it to be quite comfortable down to around 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
The zipper is a standout feature, with its petite size being perfect for my shorter frame. It locks into place securely and has minimal snagging when zipping in and out. The insulation, made of synthetic FireLine ECO, does an excellent job of retaining warmth, thanks to its high fill weight. The lining and face fabric are both made of 100% nylon ripstop with a DWR treatment, making them both durable and water-resistant.
However, there were a few minor drawbacks I encountered. While the Flex Pad Sleeve is a handy feature for attaching to a sleeping pad, I found that it added a bit of extra weight to my pack. Additionally, I wished the pad type was specified as a rectangular shape, as that could have been more helpful when selecting a compatible pad.
Overall, the Big Agnes Women's Sunbeam has become a staple on my camping trips. Its ability to insulate and retain warmth, along with its comfortable rectangular shape, makes it a great choice for those seeking a cozy night's sleep in the great outdoors.

I've been using the Anvil Horn 15 Sleeping Bag by Big Agnes for a few months now, and it has really been an enjoyable experience. The first thing that caught my attention was the integrated pad sleeve, which made sleeping on my pad feel a lot cozier. The warmth of this bag is quite impressive, especially considering it's light enough for backpacking.
One feature that I found really convenient is the Free Range Hood, which allowed me to lift and move my head even when the bag was fully zipped up. It also has a one-handed cinch adjustment, making it super easy to use. Additionally, the built-in pocket helped keep my pillow in place through the night.
However, there were a few minor downsides as well. The zipper sometimes got caught and was a bit challenging to maneuver, especially in the middle of the night when it's cold. Also, the roominess of the bag made me feel a bit like I was swimming in it.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my choice of the Anvil Horn 15 Sleeping Bag. The Big Agnes System ensured that I didn't roll off my pad during the night, and the warmth was perfect for my needs. Despite the minor disadvantages, I believe this bag offers excellent value for its price and is definitely worth considering for anyone in the market for a high-quality sleeping bag.

🔗Big Agnes Prospector 50L: Versatile, Durable, and Feature-Rich Hiking Backpack

https://preview.redd.it/qxvs4e8sddwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86f8ffd27ef1606eeaf87c9f13660ced05654335
Recently, I've been using the Big Agnes Prospector 50L for my backpacking trips, and I must say it's been a game-changer for me. The top-loading pack's roll-top closure and adjustable suspenders have made it incredibly easy to use and very comfortable while carrying heavy loads. One of my favorite features is the hydration bladder pocket, which allows me to stay hydrated on long hikes without the need for a separate reservoir.
Not only does the Prospector 50L have loads of useful features, but it's also eco-friendly! Being constructed from recycled materials, it's a great way to reduce my environmental impact while enjoying the outdoors. However, I did notice that the pack doesn't have load lifters or a torso length adjustment, which might make it a bit less versatile for some users. Overall, I'm incredibly satisfied with my purchase and can't wait to see what other adventures I'll be able to tackle with the Big Agnes Prospector 50L by my side.

🔗Ultra-Light Torchlight UL 30 Sleeping Bag by Big Agnes - Perfect for Trekking

The Big Agnes Torchlight UL 30 sleeping bag is a versatile and comfortable option for those seeking warmth and convenience in their outdoor adventures. Featuring a customizable fit, this bag is perfect for trekking in various temperatures. The down insulation with DownTek technology provides a balance between weight, packability, and warmth, enhancing the overall performance and durability of the bag.
One of the standout features is the body-mapped baffles, which effectively eliminate cold spots and reduce weight. The zippered side panels allow users to expand the overall girth, providing choices between maximum thermal efficiency or extra room to sprawl. The integrated internal loops enable the use of a liner (sold separately), while the external loops simplify the process of hanging the bag for drying or storage purposes.
My personal experience with the Torchlight UL 30 has been quite positive. The roomy fit and high-quality insulation make it an excellent choice for anyone seeking comfort, warmth, and functionality in a lightweight and portable sleeping bag. While it may not be the perfect fit for every user, the Big Agnes Torchlight UL 30 has proven to be a reliable and efficient choice for my outdoor endeavors.

🔗Big Agnes Cinnabar -40° Mummy Sleeping Bag with DownTek Insulation

Hiking up a chilly mountain range, I decided to test out this Big Agnes Cinnabar Sleeping Bag, the warmer of the two in their Cinnabar line. The down insulation is specifically designed for sub-zero expeditions like 8000m summits and winter camping, providing a cozy refuge in the most challenging of conditions. I was surprised by how lightweight and packable the down was, making it easier to carry around.
The water-resistant, windproof Pertex Quantum shell also ensured that my bag remained dry and protected against the weather. And when I finally returned to camp after a strenuous hike, the spacious and comfortable bivy within the sleeping bag made it well worth the effort. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable warmth factor and an ample of space, this sleeping bag didn't disappoint.

🔗Lightweight, Inflatable Sleeping Pad for Trekking and Camping Adventures

https://preview.redd.it/s565xxstddwc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2b72c43583ab5c221a8897d0e7313657e1f0c9c
I recently had the chance to try out the Big Agnes Air Core Ultra Sleeping Pad and it was a real game-changer for me. This pad is perfect for summer or warm weather backpacking trips, as it's lightweight and incredibly compact. When inflated, it offers a nice 3.25" thickness and the larger outer baffles help keep you centered throughout the night.
One of the things that stood out to me was the durable I-beam construction, which provides stability without adding extra weight. This made a huge difference when I was out in the wilderness, as I didn't have to worry about my pad giving out.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks that I experienced. First, the pad does need to be blown up, which can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you're tired after a long day of hiking. But, the high-volume valve made both inflation and deflation pretty easy, and I could fine-tune the firmness as needed.
The other issue I faced was the size of the pad - it's not quite as wide as I would have liked. As a side sleeper, my shoulders often hung off the sides, which could be a bit uncomfortable at times. However, this wasn't a huge deal for me, as it didn't really affect my overall sleeping experience.
Despite these minor issues, I would definitely recommend the Big Agnes Air Core Ultra Sleeping Pad to anyone looking for a high-quality, durable, and compact option for their summer or warm-weather backpacking trips. It's a great investment for anyone who wants a good night's sleep in the great outdoors.

🔗Big Agnes Greystone 0° Sleeping Bag - Lightweight and Versatile

I recently had the chance to try out the Big Agnes Greystone 0° sleeping bag, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations! The first thing I noticed was the lightweight and compact design, which made it perfect for my camping and hiking adventures. The mummy shape was cozy and roomy, allowing me to move around comfortably at night.
One of the key features that stood out to me was the high-quality insulation made from DownTek down. It kept me warm and toasty even in chilly temperatures, making it a great choice for various seasons. The baffle construction also ensured efficient heat distribution throughout the bag, keeping me snug and cozy all night long.
Another highlight of the Greystone sleeping bag was its PFC-free coating, which repelled moisture and kept me dry during my outdoor adventures. This added layer of protection was a game-changer, especially on longer trips. The zipper closure was smooth and easy to use, while the regular and left-zip options offered flexibility to suit different preferences.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks I encountered while using the Greystone sleeping bag. On occasion, the feathers from the insulation would poke through the fabric, resulting in some feathers coming loose. Additionally, the bag had a slightly higher price point compared to other options in the market.
Despite these minor setbacks, the Big Agnes Greystone 0° sleeping bag proved to be an excellent investment for my outdoor adventures. Its lightweight and compact design, versatile temperature rating, and high-quality materials made it a dream to use on backpacking trips and other camping excursions. If you're in the market for a top-of-the-line mummy shaped bag for all-season use, the Greystone should definitely be on your shortlist.

In the world of camping, comfort counts for everything—and that's where the Big Agnes Rapide SL Insulated shines. After using it on multiple outdoor expeditions, I can confidently say that this pad is a game-changer. The superlight nylon double ripstop construction is both tough and light, offering a balance that's perfect for my backpacking adventures.
One of the standout features is the offset I-Beam construction. Not only does it make the pad lightweight, but it also provides consistent support for ultimate sleep comfort. Additionally, the dual layers of heat reflective film add to the warmth during chilly nights.
Although I appreciate the anti-microbial treatment inside, the inflation sack still took some getting used to. But once I figured it out, inflating the pad was a breeze, with just a few breaths required to reach full capacity. Deflating and storing the pad quickly became second nature, and I loved the compact size that fit nicely in my backpack.
Now, it's not all praise; let's talk about the price. At first glance, it might seem a bit steep. However, considering the comfort and quality it delivers, it's definitely worth the investment if you're a serious camper.
Overall, the Big Agnes Rapide SL Insulated is a top choice for anyone who prioritizes comfort in their outdoor experiences. But, don't just take my word—give it a try and experience the difference for yourself.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Ultra sleeping pad, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. I took this lightweight, compact pad on a few camping trips, and here's what I learned.
First, let's talk about the design of the pad. The minimalist I-beam construction made the pad surprisingly stable and comfortable without adding unnecessary weight. It's great to know that I'm not compromising on comfort when I pack my backpack.
One of the most significant features I appreciated was the large outer chambers, which did a fantastic job of keeping me comf

Imagine wrapping yourself in a cozy warm blanket right before you close your eyes for a night's sleep. That's what the Big Agnes Divide Sleeping Pad feels like. It's a summertime mattress that offers a broader construction for less weight, perfect for those who appreciate a lighter pack.
The I-Beam technology and recycled Ripstop fabric work together to provide extra durability and insulation, making it a reliable choice. The double valve on this mattress is the icing on the cake, making it easy to inflate and deflate, adding to its convenience.
Even if the R-value of 1.5 does not seem impressive at first glance, there's a secret ingredient - "Summer". The Divide lives up to its name, offering a cool sleep despite warm temperatures. Its regular wide and long wide options accommodate people of all sizes, making it truly versatile.
However, it's not all smooth sailing. A drawback for some has been the possibility of fraying along the seams. Also, it could be a bit noisy when you're moving around - not an issue most would encounter, but it's worth mentioning.
In conclusion, the Big Agnes Divide Sleeping Pad is a summertime dream come true. Its sturdy construction and lightweight design make it a popular choice for campers and backpackers. It may have a small downside, but overall, it offers a comfortable sleep away from home, which many people find invaluable.

2024.04.14 22:12 CrazyCons I watched EVERY movie that Diane Warren wrote an Oscar-nominated song for. Here are my thoughts and ranking

Thumbnail

Yes, really, all of them.
Why would I go through the process of watching 15 movies whose connection to each other is famous only among chronically online Oscar nerds? Well, aside from boredom, I like the idea of being well-versed in a ridiculously niche topic, hence the flair.
I wrote each of these up right after watching them but for convenience’s sake they’re listed in order of chronology, with a ranking at the end. Please note that the rating out of 10 is based on quality, whereas the ranking is based on whether or not I’d actually recommend watching them (although that only makes a big difference with one movie). I have more to talk about for some than others, so some of these are proper review-length whereas others are only a few paragraphs long.
I had have a brief section on the nominated song from each film, but this post went over the character limit and thus they were cut. If this list is too ridiculously long for you, here's a Letterboxd list with the full text and my assessment of each song (no, this is not me trying to plug my Letterboxd, I never use it and only have one thing posted that has almost nothing to to with the film it's supposed to be reviewing, don't follow me).
Without further ado, let's begin.

Mannequin

Full disclosure: I saw and loved this movie as a kid, so I’m undoubtedly somewhat biased. But is it just me, or is this… actually a lot of fun? It’s an over-the-top consumerist extravaganza, complete with clothing montages and a boutique the size of a Gothic castle. But beyond its value as dumb fun, there’s enough weirdness and even some funny jokes to make it worth watching.
And the acting. I can’t exactly call any of the performances aside from McCarthy “good” per se, but they’re such a riot whenever they’re on screen. Every line delivery from his ex-girlfriend Roxie is a gag. Every scene with James Spader has you on the edge of your seat, wondering what ridiculous gesture he’ll incorporate next. Even the relatively tame McCarthy and Cattrall sequences have their charm not just for the 80s-ness of it all, but the way the performances and composition are ripped straight from a high school play.
The plot is absurd (key points include: a slightly nifty department store window display attracting hordes of gawking civilians, an ex girlfriend getting jealous of a mannequin, and endless chases for the sake of chases), but absurd in such a way that makes everything highly entertaining. The film doesn’t take leaps in logic as much as gleeful skips.
But probably the strangest element of the movie is the gay representation. I originally had a whole tangent here, but suffice it to say that from ridiculous stereotyping in a movie full of ridiculous characters, to a night guard explicitly called out for bigotry later implying he’s attracted to McCarthy, to the camp aesthetic of the entire movie, there’s a lot to unpack. Someone please make a 90 minute video essay to deconstruct it all.
Oh, and that’s not even getting into the potential gender discourse…
Were this ranked by quality I couldn’t in good faith put it above most of these,. But in terms of enjoyment, this is a good and wild time—more than I can say for a lot of Warren’s other films.
Rating: 5/10

Up Close and Personal

Neck-and-neck with Breakthrough as one of her most forgotten nominations, despite Because You Loved Me being big enough to get Grammy nominations for Record and Song of the Year. I have a soft spot for journalism/news reporting movies, but even I couldn’t look past the film’s big problems.
News movies traditionally can go in a few directions: a satire (Network), journalists following a specific case (All the President’s Men), or a biopic of a specific person in the news industry (Shattered Glass). Weirdly, Up Close and Personal is none of these. Instead, it’s a fairly straightforward romantic drama following Michelle Pfeiffer’s ascension up the news world aided by veteran mentor, Robert Redford.
The movie is at its best when it just focuses on Pfeiffer learning the ins and outs of the industry. She’s pretty miscast (they really needed someone ditzier—I know Jane Adams hadn’t broken out by 1995 but she would have been perfect), but still turns in a decently convincing and entertaining performance. We’re rooting for her and her ambition as she learns how to give a great report, hit curveballs thrown by spiteful anchors, and to climb the ranks and get better and better positions across the country. You do wish there was a little more oomph, though—one on-air passive-aggressive spat is funny, but that attitude never shows up again to cause mayhem.
The main problem is that the mentor-protege relationship between Redford and Pfeiffer develops into a hot-blooded romance. I don’t inherently mind age gap relationships, but it just feels so obvious that it only exists in the movie because of a corporate obligation to make the male and female leads get together, even though their dynamic was way more compelling at the start. Plus, the optics of an older man sleeping with someone in a position of power below him are… not great, but Up Close and Personal just takes it at face value. Redford can barely hide his discontent either, at least given how phoned-in his romantic scenes are.
But the issues really mount in the last third, when the film bizarrely shifts from a romantic drama to a thriller with the protagonists’ lives on the line. You can be a movie about the risks reporters take to inform the public, but you can’t decide to be that movie with barely a half hour left.
Ultimately, Up Close and Personal is just not enough: not funny enough, not romantic enough, not dramatic enough. It’s a fine watch and has enough charm to coast by, but it’s not really worth watching and it isn’t surprising that it was forgotten by time.

Con Air

Feels relevant to say that I’m generally not a fan of dumb action movies, and Con Air didn’t change my mind. The plot is stupid, the conflict is manufactured to cause maximum explosions rather than actually being compelling, it goes on for way longer than it needs to, and is plainly not a good time unless you’re a fan of action.
But what takes this from average to bad for me is John Malkovich. He drags it down every second he’s on screen, to the point where it becomes difficult to watch. You could either play his character like a fun criminal or a scary criminal, but Malkovich is just grating, unintimidating, and just an awful fit for the role. Best performances are John Cusack as the US Marshal and Steve Buscemi as a Hannibal Lecter-esque murderer, but the latter also completely irrelevant to the plot and could have been cut out entirely to save time.
This wasn’t a snooze fest like some of the others, but it was pretty dull and lacking in substance. Surely there are better action movies to watch.
Rating: 4/10

Armageddon

Remember all that I said about disliking action movies? Take all of that and instead of extremely annoying John Malkovich, we have extremely annoying editing. It wasn’t quite as awful as I remember, but it’s still not worth spending 2.5 hours of your life on.
The more I ponder Armageddon, the worse it gets, because I’m seriously struggling to think of a single thing that merits a recommendation. Armageddon is just an obnoxious, noisy drag when it’s not sexist or dumb. Michael Bay seems to think that the main way to make a good movie is not through interesting characters, plots, or themes, but throwing as much stuff at the audience as possible until they either cave in submission or fall asleep partway through (like I did, which dragged out the total watch time even further when I had to replay parts of the movie).
None of the performances are “good,” but the weak link is the one-expression Liv Tyler. It doesn’t help that her character’s consigned to sitting around doing nothing but cry over men for 2/3 of the film, but there’s no attempt to portray the supposedly rough life she has growing up, nor does she ever even put in effort beyond the bare minimum.
Genuinely not sure what else to say here, it’s the textbook definition of a brainless blockbuster without any charm to compensate.

Music of the Heart

The idea of Wes Craven doing an inspirational Oscar bait movie is… strange, to say the least. But despite some missteps (tone surprisingly not being one of them), Music of the Heart does its job as a crowdpleaser well.
The film unabashedly embraces the cliches of the “teacher makes school a better place” subgenre of 90s films, right down to the white savior narrative that the film explicitly brings attention to only to barely resolve. With that said, it’s kinda unfair to get on Music of the Heart’s case for this too much, as it was based on a true story that for all I know the film could be reenacting to a T. But thanks in large part to the great performances, you’re pretty invested in the proceedings.
Probably the weirdest part of the movie is Roberta Guaspari’s teaching itself. You would think that what makes her special is a unique approach to education that allows the students to see music in a new way, but no: she’s incredibly harsh and didactic, calling them trash, saying their parents will get sick when they hear their concert, etc. The one time this is addressed is when one of the parents forced her to change her ways, but the kids immediately don’t like it and ask her to be super mean again (???). If the real Roberta Guaspari was like this, then the film missed an opportunity to explore the question of why this teaching style worked when common knowledge would say otherwise.
This is one of Meryl Streep’s better nominations, much to my surprise: despite my issues with her writing, she creates a fully-formed character rather than just the sum of a bunch of mannerisms and ticks. It’s one of her performances that makes you appreciate her range, so different it is from her other work.
Overall, it’s not as dull or quite as cliche as I thought. Not amazing by any stretch but solid.

Pearl Harbor

Much like Armageddon, the more brain cells I waste on this movie, the worse it gets. It’s just an incredibly dull romance with an hour long action sequence shoved in the middle. If you haven’t seen it yet, whatever you’re imagining in your head is probably the movie. There’s no reason to watch this, because even the explosive middle sequence isn’t anything special when compared to any other mid-2000s blockbuster, and that puts aside how it demolishes the pacing of the movie.
The 2000s version of “Somehow, Palpatine returned” is “I didn't even know until the day you turned up alive--and then all this happened." Handily, it serves as a microcosm of the movie itself: a ridiculous soap opera love triangle, and also Pearl Harbor happens I guess. I can see what Bay was going for: the romantic notions of war held by the army men and nurses are shattered by its reality. In a better movie, the love triangle subplot would dissipate after the onset of the war, as a representation of how trivial matters are totally dwarfed in the face of destruction (there aren’t a lot of examples of this but I like to point to The Birds, where the character arcs are deliberately unresolved in the wake of the horror). But no. Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett fight over the girl, then the “main” plot goes on pause for an hour, then we’re right back to stupid romance that nobody cares about.
At a very base level I guess it’s “entertaining,” in the sense that staring at conventionally attractive Hollywood stars and has explosions. But even then, something about the way Pearl Harbor is turned into a spectacle feels so gross, even putting aside the offensive historical inaccuracies. I can’t really explain why it rubs me the wrong way here but not with Titanic, but it could just come down to the fact that Titanic was made with far superior skill, and so the manipulation isn’t as transparent. Turning this event where thousands of people died into a flashy action scene where the only investment is in gazing at the carnage makes the movie, to me at least, a level of morally questionable that nothing else here comes close to.
Pearl Harbor is the worst parts of all the Diane Warren films combined: horrifically dull for far too long (it’s a cliché to say but like Armageddon I did actually fall asleep during the pre-attack part), embarrassingly incompetent writing, awful pacing, and overall artistically bankrupt. Technically I can’t call it worse than Tell It Like a Woman (which we’ll get to), but I’d recommend that movie over this every day of the week, because it at least had something interesting going on. Pearl Harbor deserves to be forgotten.

Beyond the Lights

I came into the with zero idea as to what it’s about and zero expectations, and it ended up being one of the biggest surprises of my marathon. The storyline on paper seems like another basic “celebrity falls in love with man who sees her for who she is,” but it develops into a wonderfully nuanced and engrossing romance.
The relationship between the leads grows in a realistic way, but the film also focuses just as much on their personal lives. Noni the pop star’s ever-encroaching sense of privacy invasion isn’t an engineered conflict to drive her into Kaz’s arms, it has depth. Her micromanaging, overbearing mother has a soft side, rather than just being a harpy to nag. Kaz’s entire subplot of political candidacy feels fresh, and gives his character struggle of “always wanting to be the hero” a new layer when most movies would have settled for the bare minimum.
I also really like how the racial tension is never addressed directly, but is present as a subtext in so many scenes, from a father implying the damaging optics of a black man punching a white man on television (even though said white man, frankly, deserved it) to black talent being commodified in order for the white agents to use them as bartering chips.
My one slight hang up with a movie is that the lead’s performance is a little one-note early on, but she’s heartbreaking by the end. I’ve never heard of this movie but I’m so glad I watched it: it’s engaging, it’s sad, it’s romantic, it’s exciting (a mid-movie BET performance gone wrong is a masterclass of tension and thrills), what more could you really want?

The Hunting Ground

Wading through films that are almost always at best, dumb fun or forgettable, or at worst, actively awful, The Hunting Ground is a beacon of light. Here’s a gripping, powerful movie—two words that not a single other film I’ve seen for this project can lay claim to.
It’s a documentary that does what documentaries were made to do: bring attention to an important issue and galvanize the audience to do something about it. No, it doesn’t reinvent the format or anything, but it doesn’t need to. Rather, the simplicity of the format allows the victims and their stories to shine front and center. Genuinely infuriating that it wasn’t nominated for Best Documentary. It should have gone as far as a Best Picture nom.
If there’s one movie you should watch from this list, make it The Hunting Ground. I’d go as far as to say that everyone interested in going to college should watch it: even if some of the specific issues mentioned have been rectified, it’s still important for high schoolers to recognize the potential dangers of a campus.

Marshall

I went into this expecting a standard Oscar bait biopic, but it turns out that the basic premise—or at least the branding of it as a Thurgood Marshall movie—is so astoundingly wrongheaded it left me gobsmacked.
For this is not about Thurgood Marshall, or even one of the cases he argued. No, this is about Thurgood Marshall providing council to a white attorney.
I seriously have no idea why of the many, many important historical events Marshall’s been a key part of (becoming the first black Supreme Court justice? Brown v Board of Education??), they chose one where his role is relatively minor. So we’re treated to two hours of what is essentially a basic courtroom drama starring Olaf and Stock Snotty Lawyer #5. We learn little about how Marshall became so uniquely important, or what tactics he pioneered in court, or even much about his background at all. Also, and I’m only going to mention this briefly, Boseman doesn’t really bring the required amount of gravitas to Marshall, and seems way too one-note to be convincing.
With that said, if you ignore that it’s supposed to be a biopic, the actual courtroom developments are engaging. I won’t give away too much, but there’s more going on than just “black man wrongly accused of crime.” Yeah, obviously if this is a Marshall biopic this has to be one of the cases when things went in NAACP’s favour, but it’s way more about the journey than the destination.
As a biopic of Thurgood Marshall, the film fails completely. But as a courtroom drama, although the outcome may be clear from the outset and the judge and opposing council are comically absurd cutouts, you’re invested, you’re caught off guard by the developments, you keep watching.

RBG

I’m not really a documentary person, but I found this to be good for what it is. The overview of RBG’s impact over the years is dynamic but doesn’t sacrifice getting information across, and the film is brisk enough to never be boring.
I don’t want to get political here, but this could have been a much better film had it taken a more nuanced perspective. The longer RBG goes on, the more it feels like hagiography. They briefly mention her criticism of Trump, but it more feels there to counteract accusations of one-sidedness rather than earnestly trying to find the human Ruth Bater Ginsburg within the larger-than-life figure. Maybe this is asking for too much given the status she had at the time it was made, but I wish it had the setup of “let’s deconstruct this Supreme Court justice” rather than just “let’s celebrate this Supreme Court justice.” Still, RBG is a breezy, fun watch.

Breakthrough

Even by the standards of Diane Warren films, Breakthrough is one of her most forgotten nominations. Obviously less people have seen Tell It Like a Woman and Four Good Days, but at least they got some online buzz specifically for being so unknown. Has anyone actually even mentioned this movie here since the 2019/20 Oscar noms? Are we all aware that one of those “my child was in a horrible accident until Jesus saves them” movies has as many Oscar nominations as Jackie Brown?
Criticizing the morality of this movie would get way too complicated way too fast, so I’m just going to gloss over the idea that God can bring people back to life or whatever. But even ignoring all of that, Breakthrough’s a total slog to get through and a really underwhelming version of a powerful real-life story.
This movie really, really didn’t need to be 2 hours. In particular, everything after his miraculous recovery could be excised with almost nothing lost. They want provide a resolution for the son’s pre-accident character flaws, but instead of, well, actually doing that, it spins its wheels for about fifteen minutes with pointless, unimpactful scenes of the son meeting the rescue worker, and talking about his experience at his Christian group, and blah, blah, blah. My best guess is that the filmmakers didn’t want to attribute his rescue and recovery solely to God, but it comes across more as contradictory than nuanced.
Occasionally, Breakthrough flirts with confronting deep questions, but not in any way that’s substantial. Near the end, the age-old question of “why would God save this person and not others,” is brought up and promptly ignored. The mother’s constant confrontations with pretty much everyone but the pastor is portrayed ambiguously, but her perspective is ultimately validated by her son being brought back not by doctors, but through the power of love. And Jesus.
Speaking of Jesus, the entire element of Christianity is poorly integrated into the story. The entire character of the pastor is a jumble of Bible preaching and trying to be a companion to a person he barely knows. He shows up IMMEDIATELY after the kid’s accident, which (despite the fact that the two unpleasant conversations with the mother is the only time he’s talked to the family, period) is treated as normal as opposed to really inappropriate. Can someone who’s Christian tell me: is it normal for pastors to show up at family crises, even if they are totally unfamiliar with the family itself?
If I didn’t know any better, I’d almost say that this was written to be a generic inspirational movie, with the religion added only through rewrites. Half the time you forget it’s a Christian movie, until you’re suddenly hit with a doctor turning to the camera and saying God is the only explanation for a child’s recovery from death. You can’t make a semi-Christian movie: either go all-in on your main theme or don’t touch on it at all.
Overall, Breakthrough’s a sea of boredom and bad writing with only some unintentionally hilarious lines to keep you awake. A few good performances can’t save it. I can’t say I had any expectations going in but I was still a little let down that it wasn’t at least more memorable.

The Life Ahead

It’s weird to me that this is the movie Diane Warren settled on, of all 2020 releases, since it’s so markedly different from the other films she’s composed for: foreign language, downer ending, and not cynically assembled for the sake of profit, beefing up a resume, or for gaslighting oscarsdeathrace. With all that said, even as the black sheep of the Diane Warren family, it’s pretty decent.
As the generic opening scenes played out, I was beginning to worry that The Life Ahead would be one of those painfully dull movies about a troublesome youngster changing his ways because of a spunky older figure who’s the first person to believe in him (see Hillbilly Elegy).
But despite the clunky narration and some noticeably perfunctory scenes, this is a surprisingly complex and sentimentality-free examination of the impact of trauma and the bonds people can form as a result of it. It doesn’t always go where you’d expect, and the characters feel like they exist independently of the machinations of a plot—a rarity for these movies.
Notably, this is pretty much the only modern Diane Warren movie to have had actual buzz outside of Original Song, mainly for the performance of Sophia Loren. She’s definitely solid and obviously had a massive career narrative in her favour, but watching the movie you can kind of see why such a quiet, lived-in performance wouldn’t win over voters, given how flashy every other fringe Best Actress contender was.

Four Good Days

Would I have watched Four Good Days were it not for my Diane Warren project? Almost definitely no. But for what it is, it's a decent little rehab drama that gives you what you ask for.
Four Good Days is not really the story of a woman overcoming her drug abuse, but the story of said addict's mother trying to help her off drugs. On paper this could be interesting, but more often than it should it just devolves into Glenn Close constantly being distrustful of the drug-addicted Kunis. Does this make sense for their circumstances? Of course, but you can't sustain a whole movie off of that alone, especially when real drug recovery is far more complex. The film tries to incorporate more nuance in their relationship via clumsy exposition, but what actually saves it is Close and Kunis establishing a pretty believable rapport early on.
Speaking of which, the strong point of the whole thing is clearly the acting: Close is solid, but Kunis is surprisingly the highlight, delivering her most compelling performance since Black Swan-which, I'll admit, is not a high bar. She does a great job of conveying pain, shame, even joy, despite the writing doing her no favours. One might even say that the priority was to give actors showy scenes first, be a compelling movie second.
Aside from glimmers of something greater (most notably an ending moment that pointedly hints at the long-term impact of breaking trust so severely), Four Good Days is too conventional to be something special. But forgive its flaws-among the ones already mentioned, a plotline featuring a 15-year-old addict that's touched-on only to be bizarrely forgotten a scene later-and you'll be charmed well enough.

Tell It Like a Woman

Here comes the big one, folks, the most infamous namecheck of Warren’s career. As we all know by now, Tell It Like a Woman is an anthology film, meaning that it’s gonna take a lot more time for me to write about it than the others. Now I won’t be going through each short individually… is what I would say if there was readily accessible documentation of them online, but there really isn’t. So permit me to indulge myself and give a mini-overview of each short, plot description included because not even Wikipedia has them listed.
Please note that these mini-reviews will be far more spoiler-ridden than anything else, because I assume a very small amount of people care about having it spoiled and most of them are so superficial that you can’t really discuss them unless you spoil the whole thing.
Pepcy and Kim
A convict in rehab combats her inner demons in order to overcome her trauma.
This is awful at such fundamental filmmaking levels that it’s frankly appalling that it stars and is directed by two extremely famous actresses. The editing and cinematography are amateurish beyond belief, more comparable to a 90s public access show than an actual movie. Not only that, but the plot is so simplistic and yet so padded-out, even though this is barely 17 minutes in length.
At first you think it’s going to be about her going through rehab, but after she explains her tragic backstory, it suddenly cuts forward to post-rehab. The second half of the short is an almost entirely unrelated story of said convict being taken to a care facility outside of jail whilst her inner conscience fills her with paranoia. And not in any subtle way either, there’s literally a second Jennifer Hudson in the car saying how they’re coming to shoot her out in the woods or something. The entire car ride is basically just her rambling, only to end with the “real” Hudson leaving the metaphorical one in the car, with very little sufficient justification beyond the caretakers being nicer than she expects.
Jarringly, the short ends with some text explaining Kim’s future, before even more jarringly cutting to footage of the real Kim extolling the virtues of the organization she founded, which just so happens to be the same organization funding the movie (???). I’ve never seen a movie, short or otherwise, where the twist ending is that it was based on a true story, let alone having the subject come out of nowhere to explain how great their company is.
The real Kim Carter does seem like an inspiring person, and her organization that helps homeless women is noble. She deserved better. We all deserved better.

Elbows Deep
Two healthcare workers help a homeless woman clean up her living space and take of the many layers of clothing she wears.
Another abject failure, made with all the artistry of an 8-year-old’s Littlest Pet Shop video. Catherine Hardwicke clearly knows how to leverage a presumably small budget to create a grungy aesthetic based on her movie Thirteen, but instead of this she bafflingly opts to make it look as low-effort as possible.
But a much bigger problem is the total absence of substance. This is the entire short: text gives context to homeless people living in hotels during COVID, two healthcare workers are assigned to clean up a woman, they clean up the woman, story end. No real progression or structure, just a lot of shots of them taking the woman out of her ridiculously elaborate costume (6 layers, at bare minimum). The card at the end discussing the real doctor and how her story inspired the short is unintentionally funny: no duh a person whose job is to help homeless people helped a homeless person once.
I have no idea why they chose to focus on such a random and relatively inconsequential patient check-up. It doesn’t work as a slice of her life because there’s no attempt to actually capture her experiences beyond the most superficial level. You can’t point a camera at actresses reenacting cutting the clothes off a homeless person and call it a short film.

Lagonegro
A working woman comes to terms with having to take in a young girl.
The blandest of the shorts, bar none. I’m writing this right after finishing the movie and I’m struggling to remember what actually happens in it. It’s one of the more plot-heavy segments, but all it really amounts to is the basic description I gave above. As is not uncommon with this movie, there are some pretty sloppy moments (incredibly bad audio dubbing, stilted dialogue, even a drawing a woman shooting someone else being explained as a drawing of a woman leaving her home behind), but none that actually make it memorable or interesting. Not a whole lot to say with this one, really, just a nothing short.

A Week in My Life
A week in the life of a Japanese single mom.
Easily the best short here. It’s not overly ambitious, it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it accomplishes its goal with warmth and artistry. The low-budget-ness is for once used to the short’s advantage to give it a really down-to-earth feel, which lends to its authenticity.
It’s certainly not perfect—the exact moments shown of her as the week goes on feel arbritrary as opposed to, say, the moments that aren’t a part of her typical routine, for starters—but it’s far more competent and successful than anything else here. A bit like a less austere Jeanne Dielman.

Unspoken
A veterinarian stays late for her last assignment of the night, but something’s off about the patient.
Spoilers, but the “off”-ness is that the dog’s owner is being abused by her husband.
I appreciate the concept of viewing domestic abuse from the perspective of a complete stranger, if for no other reasons than it’s not a common plotline, nor is it presented to the audience up-front. With that said, there’s almost no nuance to the proceedings whatsoever once it become clear what’s going on, and at that point it just goes through the motions of getting the girl safe and the guy arrested. Plus, the whole subplot of missing her daughter’s ice-skating video is dropped completely (although to be fair it could be a deliberate decision to highlight the relative important of saving someone from abuse).
With all that said, it’s fairly competent on a filmmaking basis, with some solid acting. The concept isn’t expanded upon but it’s interesting enough to sustain the short for the most part. Rough around the edges but decent for what it is.
I do feel obligated to mention that according to some reports, the opening text defining Unspoken had a typo. To my disappointment, they fixed it for the Amazon release.

Sharing a Ride
A plastic surgeon has a chance encounter with a prostitute.
Despite being the most visually appealing and longest short, it’s also easily the most confusing and directionless. There are pieces here of a woman learning to care for others and ditch her materialism, but it’s an unassembled jigsaw puzzle rather than a coherent plot. Scenes have no purpose, locations and times change abruptly, character motivation is a myth. There’s a lengthy abstract song number in the middle that perhaps was intended to represent the main character’s journey, but that falls flat given how literal everything else is.
This is the only film to contain “Applause” itself, and it is a surprisingly fitting track for when the protagonist tosses off her expensive symbolic shoes and dances in the rain to let loose for once in her life. But a solid ending doesn’t save this.
Rating: 3/10
Aria
An animated segment that follows a grey creature breaking free from its prison of gender roles.
There’s some tough competition, but this might actually be the worst short in the whole movie. Putting aside the fact that it’s wildly out of place even by the standards of Tell It Like a Woman, putting side that the animation is an early-2000s eyesore, the story itself is insanely simplistic and has absolutely nothing to offer. There’s “on-the-nose,” and then there’s having creatures trapped in a box where they’re forced to watch and imitate the stereotypically masculine/feminine actions on their screen.
But even this premise only sustains the movie for around a minute, because once the first grey blob breaks free and sets forth saving everyone, there’s very little “commentary” left, just that overcoming gender roles set you free (which was already an implied message obvious to anyone over the age of 8).
Rating: 2/10
As a whole, Tell It Like a Woman is somehow even less than the sum of its parts. The shorts have so little in common besides “women” that I have to wonder if most of them were even created for the movie in the first place. There’s no justification for shoddily assembled biopics, quiet and reserved examinations of day-to-day life, and a children’s cartoon about being yourself all being the same movie. The one short was good, but not nearly good enough to salvage the experience from the other trainwrecks. But there is something fascinating about such a giant mess. I would call this a worse movie than the likes of Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, but as a watching experience there's more variety and it's a lot shorter.

Flamin’ Hot

This was the second movie I watched for this challenge, but one of the ones I was dreading the most. As someone who’s never eaten a cheeto, let alone a flamin’ hot cheeto, the premise of this movie held less than no appeal for me.
Even if we ignore the claims of historical inaccuracy and let the movie stand on its own (I’m a Blonde defender, I’d be a hypocrite not to), it’s still a cliched, gimmicky chore to sit through. The plot is just as dull and predictable as you’d think, following the rags-to-riches formula to a T. The commentary about overcoming prejudice is there, but it’s so blunt as to be rendered ineffective (at multiple points the narration explains to the audience that white people are more privileged than brown people, even at one point comparing the latter to the burnt Doritos thrown out during the production process).
Occasionally the film tries to spice up the proceedings with Big Short-esque interludes, but they become so repetitive and have so little actual creativity that they fall totally flat. Also, a key thing that made The Big Short work is that it had great editing, whereas the editing here is either distractingly showy or bizarrely sloppy.
Also, as a relatively privileged person I don’t think it’s my place to call it outright offensive, but it was really questionable to me that so much of the main character’s personality revolved around his race and socioeconomic status.
The cast is good and reasonably charming, but they’re not enough to salvage this, nor do they make Flamin’ Hot worth recommending. Still not as bad as Tetris though.
Movie rating: 4.5/10
So FINALLY I’m done talking about each film. Here are my rankings:
Movies:
  1. The Hunting Ground
  2. Beyond the Lights
  3. Mannequin
  4. RBG
  5. The Life Ahead
  6. Music of the Heart
  7. Four Good Days
  8. Marshall
  9. Up Close and Personal
  10. Flamin’ Hot
  11. Breakthrough
  12. Con Air
  13. Tell It Like a Woman
  14. Armageddon
  15. Pearl Harbor
Was it worth it? Absolutely not. Only The Hunting Ground and Beyond the Lights exceeded my expectations, and those along with Mannequin were the only ones unambiguously worth a watch. But hopefully this has provided, if nothing else, a long list of reasons never to do this challenge yourself, and an overview of Warren’s movies for those who are curious. Rest assured y’all, I do have IRL friends, and will be going to a part as soon as I’m done posting this.
If you have any questions about any of these movies or songs, please ask below. I might do a ranking for the songs but I'm not nearly as well-versed in music as film.

2024.04.14 15:57 pohltergiest Sunday funday

Sunday funday
This morning we started getting a little organized after two days of wanton excess. Bryce's bike needs to be fixed, the tent needs work, we need to adjust our sleep for when we get up early on Tuesday. We spent some time doing laundry, I strung clotheslines between the bed frames because we have a washer but no dryer. The bathroom has a heater and dryer unit in the ceiling, but it didn't do enough overnight to be useful at the scale we're needing.
By the time we got outside, we could just go to the bike shop we had in mind and drop off the bikes. We both need a tune up after so many kilometers after all. We biked to the Trek store but they said they were booked up for a week. We did get a new spoke though. The store they recommended grumbled heavily about it but said they'd do the spoke replacement and true Bryce's back wheel. Good enough to keep going. Our thoughts are that Japanese businesses absolutely do not want to disappoint so they don't want to overcommit. I can understand that. Or they were also just super busy and a couple of foreigners who can only be reached by email is not the most desirable customers. My strategy for the future is go to shops and get things done piecemeal so that they'll do it right away. I don't need a lot done, just my brakes need to be inspected and my shifter cable needs to be tightened. Nothing major. It would be nice to overhaul the bearings and such but it's difficult, so it might have to happen when we get home. After the shop adventure we came to the conclusion that doing a half dozen tasks before we've eaten anything is less than stellar. There happened to be a burger king nearby, and naturally we had to try it. Surprisingly, just as good as Canada. Easily the top out of all the north american brands in Japan.
We walked over to amerimura to see the daytime scene. Well, maybe the nighttime is more our speed, the daytime is a crawling shopping orgy of dozens upon dozens of little clothing stores, weird knicknack vintage spots, more vintage clothes stores, even more vintage clothing stores, and lots of baseball caps. Most places were of little interest to us, we're not into 80's (American) vintage aesthetic, 90's grunge, nor 2000's (again, American) style. When I say the dream of Avril Lavigne's skater boy is alive in Japan I mean Roxy and Billabong are front and center along with band t-shirts. Hats are American baseball teams for the most part. We saw duplicates of stores, we guessed to cover more ground in the neighborhood. Nevertheless, Bryce found a fun hat finally (after looking at so many hats), I look forward to him leaving it here. I found a sailor Moon t-shirt with Japanese text on it, the first such place we found Japanese text clothing. English is the cool font here, I've yet to see anyone wearing Japanese text. The silly phrases were fun to read, garbled nonsense about the human condition and enjoying selfies or something.
Like I guess l get that the name of the area is essentially "America town" but the Wikipedia page says it's the leader of youth fashion so I'm gonna broadly generalize on these things. Cool street art here though, we enjoyed that. We found a shoe store selling ridiculous platform shoes, but oddly enough the ones on display looked to be my size, so we tried some on. They were super comfortable and would match my cool sweater, so they were a serious maybe. I struggle with purchases, so I needed a bit of a walk to think on it. Bryce also wanted to try some too, so we went around the block, looking at other things while I calmed down. I got Bryce to hype me up, as they're comfy and finding size 11 shoes that look cool and cost $70 is a rarity. I got white shoes and Bryce got some black boots that are even taller than mine. With his on we're finally the same height so that's fun!
We were pretty tired from the non-stop shop action so we got some Thai food and rested a bit. In the courtyard of a trendy mall we found an idol group performing, seven women in frilly costumes singing and dancing in coordination. Very impressive stuff, the song was catchy, the costumes bright and fun, the dance moves in sync. We could really see how the group of seven works the crowd, each one making eye contact with many people in the audience and having a tiny moment of connection. You really felt drawn in, they really work on that parasocial relationship.
After, we got Bryce's bike, now in riding order again, visited a shrine with an enormous head with an open mouth as a stage, then headed back to the hotel for a rest. So much walking in the sun! We trained for biking but not so much for walking. That's something I can recommend for people, make sure you're good for walking too, and in the sun. At the hotel I had a number of projects I've wanted to get done, so I got started.
First was sealing the seams on the tent. This is an involved process and requires that we peel off the old seal tape that has become damaged and peeling, and clean all the seams. Then I spent an hour carefully brushing on sticky sealant on the seams, the trickiest bit being that seams can't touch anything for 8 hours after application. Good thing our room is so big! I had to move all the furniture to make just enough space, minus the awnings on the tent. The tube of sealant lasted for all of the seams except the awnings anyways, so it worked out. The sealant is volatile, so the patio door stays open tonight. Really couldn't do this anywhere else, we'd need to stay put and the wind would make the seams stick together. You're basically waiting for contact cement to lose it's tack and if the seams touch because you don't have enough space, well you're screwed. Tomorrow we'll get another tube and apply the waterproofing spray, then the tent should work as it used to. It's a lot of work to save a tent, especially on the road, but it's good experience that I wanted to have. I've always wanted to be outdoorsy so learning how to seal and maintain gear is pretty useful stuff. Very much enjoy my time out in the wilderness. It's also a status symbol, so there's that too.
Bryce got back from shopping for dinner supplies, we decided to have an evening in because we're getting sick of eating out. The lack of variety, the noise, the evaluation of prices, the translating, the smoke, it's all a bit much. And a bit pricey, when all we want is some nice food. Bryce made a lovely spicy chicken stir fry over noodles with a peanut crumble, with a dessert and a drink. Perfect. And lots of vegetables, which are hard to come by. While he was cooking I did our taxes. I prepped things before we left, and my T4 was finally available on the CRA website, so it went smoothly. We might need to fix things when we get home but we should avoid any fees from filing late at least.
After dinner, we made some plans of what we wanted to accomplish tomorrow, namely doing some sightseeing at the castle and some major shrines, and some major landmarks. I need more time to finish up the tent and waterproof our gear, and I would like to spend some time working on my bike before we move on. I feel like I've gotten what I wanted out of Osaka, namely some underground entertainment and finding cool unique clothes to bring home. I'm happy we can spend an evening relaxing so that we're chipper in the morning again. Tomorrow's another sunny day, and then it'll be time for universal studios! It's supposed to rain, which might mean less people, but probably will just mean crowds that are also wet. Oh well!

What is with this layout on the mobile rym website
They have the list suggestions take up all that room on the left which I have never once looked at, and then squeeze the albums (which is what everyone actually needs to see) to the point where you see only the first two letters of the album name.
I’m on an 11” iPad btw so not even a tiny phone screen, so annoying to have to go into landscape mode just to see album titles.

Springsteen Bootlegs
Found these 3 multi-album sets this week. Looking forward to giving them all a listen. The Flat Top and Pin Drop set from the Roxy 1975 has been really enjoyable.
The other two are from the 1988 tour(s). Prisoner of Love 4 discs) recorded in Andover Maryland and Who’ll Stop The Rain (5 discs) from Munich Germany. Amazing set lists on both.
Anyone experienced these before? What are everyone’s opinions about bootleg recordings. I’ll show my ignorance and say I wasn’t aware that there were bootleg LPs.

2024.03.25 16:27 Stories_Behind_Songs “Don't Cry” the saddest song made in the beginning of the band

“Don't Cry” the saddest song made in the beginning of the band
This song has two versions that appear on the twin albums Use Your Illusion I and II, released simultaneously in 1991, with the only difference being the vocal tracks modified by Axl Rose. There is a third version that was a demo recording composed 6 years earlier, which according to Axl, was the first song written since the creation of the band as it still had the voices of his L.A. Guns bandmates, however, it was not published on their first album as they did not find the sound they wanted.

The music video starts a cinematic narrative, which continues with "November Rain" and ends with "Estranged," inspired by the dramatic short story "Without You" by musician, writer, and friend of Axl, Del James.

According to Axl, the song is about a girl who was first Izzy Stradlin's girlfriend and then his for 2 years, which caused problems for continuing with the band. Axl was very much in love with the girl to the extent of tattooing her face on his right arm, however, the girl was convinced that the relationship was not going to work and while Axl was sitting outside the nightclub "El Roxy," she decided to break up with him, to which Axl began to cry and the girl just kept repeating "Don't cry."

The next night Axl went to reconcile with his friend Stradlin and they made peace, and by combining a very sad lyric that Axl already had written, with the very sad guitar that Stradlin had composed, they managed to finish the song in just 5 minutes.

2019 ... something happened in 2019
Let's start with the meditation journey.
I mastered the art of meditation by sensory deprivation. Pitch black, weighted blanket noise canceling headphones. After several weeks I started to have meditation journeys.
At first, she appeared as my grandmother Roxy, and she would just be with me as I walked through my mind's eye. Simply present.
Then we began to talk about things. She told me that she was with me to show me how to travel safely.
The next time I saw her she appeared from a meditation I was having, and I was in cloud that had a small closet door. I knew that when I opened this door it would hold my children and when I opened the door there was Roxy weeping. She said your children are unavailable. I was washed with grief. I didn't understand what she meant by unavailable, did she mean dead?
The next time we met she took me to space essentially and we sat on a cloud together and my life movie played on a theater screen sort of like a drive in except in space and sitting on a cloud not in a car. She wept at my life, I felt her grief as if it were my own and she felt mine as though it was hers. Then the cloud cradled me as if I were a baby in a blanket and I felt the love of a mother. I was told my existence was celebrated in the beyond and they couldn't fathom what had been done to me here. I felt so validated in this moment and truly loved.
That was the last time I saw Roxy. The next time I went straight to the cloud, but it was a Chinese woman waiting for me. She said I had the gift of travel and a large blue swirling hole appeared. She grabbed my hand and taught me how to travel. The first few times we didn't go anywhere except through and around like I was learning my way around. This went on for weeks. Then it was time for me to go somewhere.
I had no destination in mind but in the form of 1's and 0's I came to a tree on top of a dirt road, and I was still spinning as numbers when I looked up to see a frightened young boy. I was only numbers briefly and then I appeared. He had seen me as numbers though and was frightened. He ran inside an old rundown white shack, and I left because I knew I'd only frighten him more.
Over the next few weeks, I traveled everywhere and saw many things, but he was the only human I encountered on these journeys. I believe he was in India.
The next time I went to the cloud was when I saw all of existence. In psychic communication she told me she wanted to meet me and took me to a garden where she became the Chinese woman again. She handed me a box. It was golden and etched with great detail she said not to open it yet. And after that moment she left and wouldn't return to me for 2 years.

On Christmas Eve 2020 I fell and broke my shoulder. 2020 had been quite a challenging year. And that was how 2021 started with a broken shoulder.
My friend T died and then L was murdered, and P died. And I was dying.
The first thing that happened was the outer body experience. I want to describe it somewhat like a reverse ghost. I saw myself with my 3rd eye. Like an out of soul experience. Out of soul, I think that's the closest I've ever gotten to a decent description. I looked at me. A movie flashed before me of this girl's life, and I realized no one else on earth would have this kind of knowledge on the woman. I am the expert on me. Me. Holy shit...I'm a person...that was seriously my thought process. So how do you explain not knowing you were a person.
So, after I realized I was a person I loved her like she was a dear family member. I hugged her and I looked out for her because we were one...that one is still hard to describe ha-ha. After that the world changed. Hummingbirds were flying up to my face, eyes being brought to me as gifts, on almost a daily basis.
I got sicker. And the journey went deeper. I laid down to meditate and I was traveling, and I wondered what I looked like, and my skin was blue. I was flying next to a spirit who was bright red. We were very close friends in this realm of equal status. She being far mor mischievous than myself. And that's when I entered the library of knowledge....
Chapter 2: Intuition
Dear Lightworker,
I walked into hell to get you. You didn’t belong here and neither did I. They rose somehow and we didn't see it in time. You didn’t go to their realm they came to ours. Protect Yourselves fiercely unveil your purpose, we must fight. They’ve confused us and infiltrated us in the houses of what we consider power and control. Open your spirit eyes and be ready. They will trick you with these things:
Love
Anger
The Idea of Fair
They make you think you are alone.
They make you think no one cares
They weaponized empathy by seeking false forgiveness for the attack immediately with any gain of knowledge.
By doing inconceivable acts of degenerateness and then claiming it was you who committed crimes against them. Within layers upon layers of deception.
Knowledge is your power. The methos they use will be called hamster wheeling. They will gaslight, spilt the topic into many arguments and leap between them seamlessly. Once you’ve identified the method that is being used against you, get away from this person. Never return to them no matter what they say.
Do not engage in empathy with them but do not shut down your understanding of their lower soul evolution abilities. Remember they must learn a lesson in this realm as well as you and I have a plan that preserves this place. We cannot enact it, yet the message has not been fully interpreted but the message as of today is “wait, everyone wins”. A solution that provides justice without punishment is being transmitted from the outer realm and it may take weeks to decode.
Love,
Luna
February 25th, 2024
Did you know your inner monologue is not actually formed by you? The way you speak to yourself was already chosen for you by the people in your life, when you were too young to realize you could have been injected with poisonous thoughts.
It takes some work, but those pathways can be retrained to instinct. Meaning with work it will come to you as naturally as your other thoughts have your whole life.
Here is how you do it:
When you react in a way you are not in control of; You know the type, anger, anxiety, self-rejection, etc., you must reflect later in calmer moments. Once you are there think of how you wish you would have responded and then PRACTICE.
Failure is a guarantee not even an option; You will absolutely fail the first time, but each time you try you will be forming a new pathway until eventually that pathway connects as strong as your prior instinct did.
How do you speak to yourself inside? Banish words like stupid, worthless, unlovable, etc.,
Never. You are worth every ounce of energy you put back into yourself. Every. Single. Ounce.
You aren’t a monster just because someone convinced you that you were. Take off that pollution you’ve been bathed in and see that you are special and loved. You are good, all you have to do is choose it. It will be hard. It will hurt but keep going.
Keep swimming to my step of hope, we are all cheering for your success and waiting for you to get close enough that we can reach you and stop you from drowning in the sea of hate. Take the chance to stand alone, trust yourself to be alone and keep swimming, you are not swimming into an abyss. Your family is right here waiting for you; Come home now.

Microphone Check
It hit me that night. That distinct feeling that something was wrong, and it had to do with my daughter. Impending doom style anxiety? I do the gut check thing, and no, not impending doom, intuition. My heart beats faster and faster and I decide to sleep on it. I know better than to ignore it, but normally I’m also gifted instructions. They are usually absurd, but I learned to never ignore that feeling long ago.
July 1986
When I was younger, many strangers entered my life to offer strange advice on things that it seemed she should know. On a plane ride to Florida in 1986, she traveled alone to the southernmost point of the USA. At this time children could fly alone in first class only. I was very scared, but I was sat next to a very friendly man, and he talked with me. He asked if knew how to know the difference between a message or an interference. I was 6, OfCourse I didn't. He showed me where I would feel this. Roughly 2 inches above the belly button. Then he tested me. He sent me a message and had me give him the answer he “sent” to me. I was to write them down. I would take a picture of the word with my mind so I could remember how to spell the word.
The words were way above my vocabulary and in English, Russian, Arabic and a language called “Maltese” that I haven’t ever heard of. Using the picture I took of the word with my mind, I was able to get the words he sent me with intuition written out on paper and he rewarded me by asking the flight attendant to bring me a chocolate popsicle. He exited the plane before me and said to me “be a good girl Luna”. I cried when he left me. The flight attendant assured me all was well and looked after me closely until I safely arrived to my destination. From that lesson I took with me a deep understanding of the spirit language and have been cultivating this skill my entire life without even realizing it.
March 2019
Microphone Check
I woke up still feeling this feeling of doom and it was still about my daughter. It was all I could encode. I sent my best friend a voice text crying. I said to her “I don't know what is wrong I can't pinpoint it, but “this” feeling is distinct; Never wrong.
I drive to work.
I park my car.
I pull out the keys of the car and I’m overcome again. “Drive back home” it says.
The feeling is swirling my body like energy bees, and I put the keys back into my car. I drive home feeling a mixture of awful fear, anticipation and doubt. I drive and listen. I was sure I needed to drive back towards my apartment. I was sure that I wasn’t supposed to go to her school. I got near the apartment and felt I was to exit the vehicle and walk up to my apartment.
I walk up the stairs.
I have my keys in my hand.
As soon as my key touched the door’s keyhole the feeling melted out of my body and through my feet, and I instinctively knew the threat had been fully averted. “Return to work” it says. I get back in the car and i am given a vision of a face that attempted my murder in February 2014. I call my best friend and tell her “I don't know why but I feel Heather’s presence swirling but feel driving back to my apartment unexpectedly thwarted the attack.” <-- This information will not be relevant until February 2024.
From: The Library of Knowledge
If you experience that moment, the one you wish you could change with every fiber of your being, remember it is ALWAYS foretold. If not from you as your higher self, then from another spirit with specific knowledge. This is because of an obstacle you are required to overcome, and it specifically needs to be done in human form. You will repeat this life repeatedly until you master the skill. Intuition is given in this case to teach you how to communicate with the spirit world. You must learn the “language”.
The first step to learning the language of souls is to open your souls' ears. Your soul uses them sort of like a Walkie Talkie, soul evolution is guided by your higher self or by an angel in charge of your evolution.
Currently, we do not have enough souls who are able to cross the barrier and protect the young. Due to this the 1st spirit realm has become overcrowded and the earth realm has become corrupt. The Decider will need to be of great creativity, as the Judges have requested, she seek “Justice without Punishment”.

2024.03.08 00:16 LeekComplete7269 (SoupySoup) Worst ARG Coverage Channel I've Seen

I wanted to address this issue due to the lack of documentation concerning it elsewhere. She's just a greedy girl who monetizes the works of others due to having no proficiencies otherwise. Her video editing format is just showing images and text, which I find to be mediocre. Sometimes she even has the background music being too amplified making her narration audio dampened. Making it the total opposite of audible. This YouTube ARG inspector called SoupySoup uploaded a video covering a project called Rain Heart Kawaii Quest, which I believe to be Slenderverse adjacent. The creator of this ARG turned out to be a super racist manipulator who falsely accused bigger creators of greasily things via proxies. There exists a whole document proving everything which SoupySoup chooses to be ignorant of and dismiss at all costs. One of Roxy's (creator of RHQK) victims threatened to harm themselves per passing day that she refuses to remove it and uploaded a video cutting themselves somewhere. Not even that was enough for Soupy to remove it. I got a theory that she was paid by Roxy to not be removing the video and keeping downgrading comments off of it.
Whatever the case, I hope that other people will begin to see her flaws. Her absolute refusal to remove a video on a shitty fanime (which really is just a less scary version of Neko Sugar Girls) is nothing besides immense. She keeps providing these nonsensical arguments, moving the goalpost at a consistent basis with reasons to not be at least unlisting the Rain Heart Kawaii Quest video like there not being enough substantiation or that she has dyslexia and can't read anything. There also exists virtually no method of communication with her except for an email which is easily spam marked. It can become used as a form of hinderance to avoid people coming up and asking regarding the issue at hand. These are the reasons for why I don't like her "content", which is just her monologing over other people's projects describing the plot. Night Mind is good at this due to him converting ARGs into a readable experience, however I can honestly not state the same for SoupySoup whatsoever.

2024.03.01 05:46 CP4-Throwaway Random songs from 1981-1984 that I think sound more like the Post-Disco era to the Core 1980s

Disclaimer: I didn't know what to call the 70s/80s transition of music at first, although I was thinking either the "New Wave" era (since new wave was at its purest during this period before merging with synthpop and other genres in the core 80s) but the genre is more associated with the core 80s so that would look a little weird. Post-Disco is also pretty much an 80s genre but calling the 70s/80s transitional period of music the "Post-Disco" era kind of makes sense since this period was largely after Disco Demolition Night and disco would rapidly die out and evolve into what would be known as post-disco.
Anyways, I'm continuing the series with 1981-1984 (early 80s), analyzing which songs sound more like it fits with the Post-Disco era (70s/80s transition) or just scream 80s.
1985 may have some Post-Disco era-esque songs but it's not enough to be included into this list.
Let's begin.

1981

Post-Disco Era
Core '80s
Hard to place (could go either way or neither way; quintessential "Live '81" songs, I guess)
Anomaly (odd one out)

1982

Post-Disco Era
Core '80s
Hard to place (could go either way or neither way; quintessential "Live '81" songs, I guess)

1983

Post-Disco Era
Core '80s
Hard to place (could go either way or neither way; quintessential "Live '81" songs, I guess)
Anomaly (odd one out)

1984

Post-Disco Era
Core '80s
Hard to place (could go either way or neither way; quintessential "Live '81" songs, I guess)
