Senior prank during graduation week
My sister and the rest of her graduating class asked for my help with their senior prank on Sunday night (5/12/24). I graduated in 2020, so I never got to do any of the senior things my sister is doing. The grad class all agreed to let me join them so that I can experience doing a senior prank. I got called into my manager’s office for a meeting about it and he said, “This is your final write up. As the adult and a staff member, you should not have been involved in anyway. You lucked out as nothing was damaged and no one was hurt.” This was the tamest prank that I have seen since living in the same town. Some students targeted specific teachers that they have for either a favorite class or club. They did manage to place a lunch table in the upstairs boys’ bathroom as well as the weight room. The only evidence that the admin and Board have, is my staff badge being scanned to get inside the doors. The only other person that knew of my involvement was my mom, who is the FACs teacher, and she would never expose me for helping out. The problem is, the write up is only the second one I’ve ever gotten and he threatened me with being fired for my involvement as well as me getting arrested for trespassing and entering. The Board never met about any of this and for my town being as small as it is, the officer that did show up just told us to be careful with what we were planning. No staff that had helped seniors in years past have ever been threatened with anything before, so why am I being targeted for it?
I should also note that a year or two prior, two students destroyed the choir teacher’s grand piano and only one of them payed the deductible for getting a new piano. Both students were over the age of 18 already and weren’t charged with anything.

I'm considering whether to inherit a family heirloom antique piano, an Everett Cabinet Grand. I haven't accessed the serial number yet, but it would have been made between about 1893 and 1926. I know that old, unmaintained pianos aren't always the best as instruments, but it may do for the music I play with friends. My question here is about what it should sit on. It is missing two casters - has been propped up on wood in the back - but if I take it, I would want it to be moveable - not great distances, but able to be pulled off the wall and turned about in my front rooms for group sessions. One proposal is to leave the piano sitting on a pair of four-wheeled mover's dollies. I am wondering whether those are a good idea as a permanent platform, or whether I would really need to invest in a piano dolly with a steel frame and perhaps an ability to be screwed into or otherwise attached to the instrument. The piano is likely 600-800 pounds, and whatever I sit it on would be it's home for many years. Thoughts? And thanks.

Hey, i wanna buy mid priced digital piano. Can u guys recommend me one that sounds most like Tori? Of course grand pianos sonud all different from each other and im not looking 100% match. Im thinking about Roland FP-30x. Its grand piano is not quite there, its too bright i guess, but i could tinker the sound with app. Any thougths?

I have just started playing the piano, I have a background in neo classical metal, playing the electric guitar. I know very little about the piano and midi keyboard overall, so I thought maybe you guys could help me out here.
I am looking for a keyboard that I can use to play VST's and record music in Reaper using MIDI, just connect the keyboard to my sound card and then go at it. But I don't know which keyboard to pick, I want it to have a "real" grand piano feel so to say. I want the keys to feel like the real thing, and it needs to have pedals too.
I have found the Kawai VPC1, it looks like a "real piano" but I am not sure if it has all the characteristics of a "real piano". It does have the pedals and hammer action (whatever that is).

Does anyone manufacture for public purchase a typical acoustic piano but prepared with MIDI? (Not a consumer digital piano) I know a few famous pianists (Lyle Mays) who have used one. Likely to be grossly expensive, but I'd sure like to have one if affordable. Or does anyone know what retrofitting my grand with MIDI pickups might cost?

I'll just get this out of the way, I am very much a beginner, I've been learning on my own from books for about a year and a half now on my acoustic upright piano at home and greatly enjoy it. However I am moving away from home to my own apartment soon and can't really fit or take the piano with me. Last summer I was also away from home for a few months and bought some cheap second hand weighted keyboard from casio and I never really quite vibed with it. They key feel felt sluggish. As a beginner I'm not super concerned with the sound modeling or speakers, I just want a good key feel.
Most of the threads I've seen on here and other piano forums point to the Kawai CA series, specifically the ones with the grand feel 2 mechanisms. However I am having zero luck finding them used around here. The used market does seem to be flooded with Casio Celviano's, Casio Privia's and Yamaha's of various P-xxx models. At this point I'm starting to wonder if I should keep checking around for used pianos or if should opt for the best new one within my price range, and if so, which one (I did look at the recommendations in the FAQ thread already). I went to the local instrument store and tried out a few roland models (these guys seemed to carry mostly roland digital pianos), and all of them from $1000 to $5,000 felt identical (they literally use the same PH-40 mechanism) but I was still underwhelmed. I haven't had a chance to try anything else though.
If anyone has any recommendations for either something to look for on the used market, or a recommendation for something to buy new with a focus specifically on the key feel quality, that would be great! Thanks

My parents are selling their 1986 Baldwin Grand piano. It has a walnut gloss finish and just needs to be tuned. I have no idea how much to list it for, can anyone help me with a price and where to sell it? We live in CT. Thanks!

I saw him on Saturday in Reno and he was playing what looked to be a small travel baby grand piano. It had a transparent top where you can see the hammers moving inside. Any idea what that thing was? Super cool… I want one

When it comes to sizing of the three pianos, here is the breakdown:
596M ./Concert Grand Piano 1,1G ./Vintage Upright Piano 1,5G ./Studio Grand Piano
Sound
They definitely sound better than legacy stock pianos, specifically on sustain pedal I found Yamaha Legacy with too much overtone. These new pianos are much cleaner yet they provide good amount of overtones on sustain pedal, dynamics is great it is far away from infinite dynamic of PianoTeq but it does the job and it is really fun to play. My favourite one is the clean and simple "Studio Grand" patch which brings "Studio Grand Mono" with just a bit of EQ and reverb, little bit of pedal squeak, hammer noise and resonance but not too much.
With "AI" everywhere, I was hoping we get some physical modeling around sympathetic resonance, unfortunately, it is very subtle and likely just sample based. Also, sustain pedal seems to be binary, no half pedaling possible. But still, great sound, these are not meant to beat solo piano instruments, these are universal and compact all-round pianos for everyone.
Nice update indeed, bass plugin is also massive. Will try it tomorrow.

Mi alzo ogni mattina abbastanza presto, ma non così presto (6.45) per andare a lavorare. Vivo in un medio comune ad 1h da una grande città. Ho 29 anni e purtroppo ancora precario a casa dei genitori, ma con un lavoro pagato bene. Circa 2000€ netti al mese. La soluzione più facile sarebbe fuggire, ma volevo comprare dopo aver ottenuto un indeterminato e non buttare soldi in affitto.
I miei vicini di casa al piano di sotto, in affitto, sono i classici incacciabili col genitore in casa disabile, il figlio mantenuto con la pensione del padre che ha ingravidato una minchiona, che hanno una figlia semi-neonata. Piú un cane che abbaia spesso. Sono talmente minchioni che fanno pisciare il cane in ascensore. Chiaramente parole dettate dall'odio. Li odio perché sono arrivati nel 2020 e la cosa sta diventando impossibile. Prima si viveva meglio. Tanto che sta compromettendo il mio rendimento sul lavoro. Passino le partite così ad alto volume che riesco a sentirme la telecronaca mentre guardo un film, passino gli schiamazzi fino a tarda sera, il cane che abbaia anche per ore di giorno. Passi la bambina che piange di notte (che con i tappi non si sente per altro).
Ma ormai la notte non si dorme. Stanotte avevo i tappi in ear e sono stato svegliato lo stesso. Alle 3.00 a caso si sentono grida a caso, altre volte film ad alto volume. Il vecchio malato urla e si lamenta per ore: temo anche non lo curino molto, ma se lo tengano solo per la pensione. Io le rare volte che capita o quando torno sabato sera tardi o mi alzo di notte non tiro neanche l'acqua del cesso per non svegliare i vicini.
Dovremmo praticamente insonorizzare 2 stanze e ci costerebbe un patrimonio.
Altri suggerimenti? Cuffie antirumore? Quali? Pannelli isolanti?
Già fatto presente all'amministratore, già provato a parlare con i minchioni che danno la colpa solo al vecchio malato ovviamente.

So i bought a keyboard type (the electric one) piano and i set it to grand piano setting but it sounds a little off. it sounds a lot more sharp in a way. I really wanna know what to do so that it sounds more soft (similar to for example Rousseau) I am an absolute beginner so please bear with me lol

Watch the "Grand Piano" Instrument in Flex. At 20 seconds it is not play any sound whatsoever. If I click on some others they'll give me no sound. It's random when it decides to play the instruments. At 1:19 the "Grand Piano" starts working again.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling FL Studio. Made sure everything in the channel rack and whatnot is synced. Closed out of the project and back in.
Every time I try top select an instrument it either won't work or will work. But when I click off onto another instrument and back on the preferred one, it'll do the opposite and once was working before is now MUTE.
I am perplexed and just really sad that it's not going well. I want to fix it and GeT BuMpkIN!

Facendo seguito al precedente post su questo sub "La mia prima MARGIN CALL, avevo solo 11 anni" è giunta ora di raccontare come, al primo anno di un istituto tecnico, guadagnavo commissioni fornendo un servizio di brokeraggio ai miei compagni di classe dopo aver messo in piedi una rete di vendita assoldando un compagno.
Ma andiamo con ordine, correva l'anno scolastico 2011/2012 e dopo non poche difficoltà riuscii ad aprire un account sulla nota e ora non più attiva piattaforma "Banc de Binary" con i documenti sottratti dalla borsa di mia madre (pattern ricorrente). Depositai i primi 250 euro per mezzo di una carta prepagata PAYPAL aperta dal tabacchino già in mio possesso e in men che non si dica ero operativo.
OPZIONI BINARIE 60 secondi, sappiamo tutti cosa sono e sappiamo tutti quanto fossero scam specialmente su quelle piattaforme con spread fumosi e prezzi di apertura e chiusura forse un pochino pilotati.
Provai ad "investire", la posizione CALL o PUT minima offerta dalla piattaforma era di 1€, motivo per il quale scelsi proprio Banc de Binary, ebbi l'opportunità di sperimentare la mia consolidata e famosa strategia del "è alto ora deve scendere ti prego", "è basso ora deve salire per forza", "fammi prendere questa posizione poi smetto lo giuro", "torno a 250 e poi ritiro tutto", "se raddoppio la posizione prima o poi torno in pari è sicuro" con scarsi risultati come era facilmente prevedibile.
Il caso volle che prima di bruciarmi l'intero conto un mio compagno di classe, vedendomi smanettare sull'applicazione da telefono durante l'intervallo mentre stavo cercando di capire se GBP/CAD sarebbe salito o sceso nei prossimi 30 secondi, si incuriosì e mi chiese come fare per aprire un account, ci provai ma risultò troppo complicato per lui, rinunciò, per fortuna.
Ed ecco il colpo di genio, io avevo qualcosa di più rispetto ai miei compagni, qualcosa di prezioso, l'accesso alla piattaforma e un saldo su di essa, potevo fare l'intermediario, accettare e liquidare posizioni in contanti comodamente senza lo sbattimento del deposito minimo e senza dover aprire un account, nasce cosi la più grande operazione di crimine finanziario organizzato che l'istituto tecnico statale della mia città abbia mai visto.
Il piano era semplice, smettere di investire i miei soldi e offrire il servizio a terzi in cambio di una percentuale dei guadagni qualora l'operazione fosse stata di successo, avevo capito che conveniva sbarazzarmi del rischio connesso all'investimento e lavorare per la commissione, nel mentre la popolarità dei miei investimenti era aumentata e buona parte della classe ne era al corrente ed affascinata, inutile dire che come ho incominciato a proporre il servizio tanti curiosi con monetine in mano si sono resi disponibili a "provare" e cosi durante l'intervallo o prima di entrare a scuola mi facevo consegnare il denaro, aprivo la posizione CALL o PUT su qualsiasi strumento finanziario di loro gradimento (solitamente era EUUSD, oro, petrolio), si attendeva il risultato e poi si liquidava la posizione, alcuni perdevano e incassavo la somma in contanti che andava a coprire le perdite sulla piattaforma, altri vincevano e liquidavo la posizione arrotondando per difetto e incassando la percentuale, ovviamente non si faceva credito a nessuno.
Step successivo, assoldai un mio compagno di classe amici da una vita e ancora in contatto, il suo compito era quello di proporre per me gli investimenti, i clienti interessati e con i soldi in mano sarebbero poi venuti da me per aprire la posizione dal mio dispositivo in cambio di una parte dei profitti, la cosa funzionava ma degenerò presto.
I clienti divennero ludopatici, dovevano recuperare i soldi che si erano mangiati, il mio gringo aveva capito che più clienti portava e più guadagnava cosi incominciò a proporre l'investimento anche al di fuori della classe, ben presto buona parte del piano era al corrente delle attività e il traffico fuori dall'aula incominciava a destare sospetti tra i docenti. Il picco assoluto è stato quando per pura gogliardia proposi l'investimento in azioni Apple al professore di fisica scatenando l'iralità dell'intera classe, egli si insospettì e ben presto venne allo scoperto il giro di affari losco che si consumava anche durante le sue ore di laboratorio.
Fu la fine, fortunatamente, dettata dall'intervento del docente in merito al giro di soldi e in generale all'attività decisamente poco consona all'ambiente scolastico, cessai di offrire il servizio anche perchè tenevo particolarmente alla mia condotta scolastica.
La settimana più elettrizzante dell'anno, ero diventato popolare per questa attività ma cosi come la fama arrivò la fama svanì, tornai ad aprire qualche posizione per conto ma non era più lo stesso, prelevai tutto e chiusi l'account.
Forse vi parlerò di quando importavo dalla Cina puntatori laser, è una lunga storia tra ispezioni doganali, francobolli sottocosto e dropshipping. Votate UP.
