Kondisi sekarang Software Engineer di sebuah unicorn, umur 28 tahun. Ngelihat progres karir dk company sekarang agak suram, banyak yang sudah 5 tahun lebih stuck ga naik ke posisi senior karena ga ada kuota. Naik ke senior aja susah apalagi jadi lead atau keatasnya. Kayaknya ga bisa naik kecuali atasan ada yang resign 😭.
Hal ini bikin gua was-was banget. Jadi kepikiran nyesel juga jadi Software Engineer. Harusnya masuk MT gitu atau Oil and Gas yang ada jenjang karir hingga pensiun.
Temen pernah cerita, salah satu alasan dia diterima mertuanya itu karena kerja di BUMN. Jadi harusnya kehidupannya secara finansial aman ke depannya. Nah gua takut gara2 jadi SE gua ga aman ke depannya. Apalagi sekarang sering banget layoff.
Buat reditor yang jadi Software Engineer dan udah berumur 40 atau 50 tahun, apakah apa yang gua pikirkan sekarang tuh benar? What should I do?
Sempet kepikiran, better gua invest waktu banyak di leetcode biar bisa tembus ke luar negeri. Tapi apakah itu worth it secara duit?

Sedap sangat doh lagu ni..Nakalness dan Aali 3gp dan kumpulan Fpb menunjukkan rakyat tempatan berbakat walau masih muda dan boleh menandingi negara-negara lain walau berbeza warna kulit dan budaya..Nakalness anak muda,umur tk smpai 30,tetapi boleh buat muzik yang BAIK..Muzik yang baik ni universal..Aku tknak cerita pasal artis dia sangat..Tetapi dua lagu dia bagi aku 10/10…Pertama,Badboy,kalau kau minat rentak yang upbeat dan bertenaga,lagu ni adalah lagu yang well done dari segi beat,video simple,tetapi tetap well done,ini lagu HiTS..Lagu rap yang ada FLOW dan boleh nyanyi…Lagu ni beri nafas baru,unik kepada muzik negara selain rap tkda flow,,atau lagu sedih seperti lagu Dawai...Januaari pula lagu sentimental.Lagu ni sangat sedap..10/10…Editing dan Video out of this world dan the best in the world..City life...Dua lagu ni takkan bosan..Ambil masa dan dengar,lagu taraf S menandakan walau underground,boleh mencipta lagu yang berkualiti,bukan pada nama dan warna kulit semata.Tidak perlu perempuan seksi,profanity dan makian dalam karya.

Jujur ngeliat banyak post soal sandwich generation dimana orang2 seumur gw are barely living karna gaji nya kemakan ortu, and I'm genuinely scared. I grew up poor (well still am), nyokap gw single mother tiga anak with UMR Jakarta poor. Gw umur 21, saat ini gw lagi kuliah undergrad di LN, support diri sendiri financially. Nyokap ga mampu biayain, and not scholarship either. Tapi gw kerja jadi freelance consultant/contractor gtu, precarious, can only take short contract during summer, but gaji standar Europe yg lumayan cukup gede untuk standar Indo.
Kadang kalo ngobrol, nyokap sering mention kalo gw satu satunya anak yg dia bisa depend. She said, gw anak cowok paling tua; kk gw cewek and a stay at home mother; dan adek gw cowok, jujurly bego (not an insult, I think he might have learning difficulties), so we somewhat accept that he wont be much in the future (hopefully not).
Nyokap gw happy tau gaji gw lumayan, even though she overlook how so precarious banget it is. (Think of like kontrak 30jt for a month work, but gw cm available ambil kontrak sekali dalam setahun (aka summer break), jadi tu duit beneran harus gw stretch for one year of expenses, which makes it like 2.5jt/bulan). Dia bilang kalo gw lulus, dan nanti gw dapet kerja di LN, dapet gaji gede. Dia mau keluar dari kerjaan UMR nya, dan cuma depend dari kiriman bulanan gw buat kebutuhan sehari hari dan buat seneng seneng.

Kalo denger cerita temen2 European gw, mereka bilang ortu mereka independent. They dont send them monhtly allowance dan mereka jg ga minta, kadang ngasih kl cuma ada bonus aja. And they dont feel the moral obligation either. The liberal idea that a parent have moral obligation to a child, but a child not necessarily have moral obligation to their parents bcs it's the parents choice to have the child and not the other way. I agree honestly. One of my justification mungkin karna nyokap gw jg ga bayarin gw kuliah, so in a way I dont have financial obligation to her (?).
I understand mungkin it's more feasiable in Europe, welfare system mereka cukup untuk orang tua bisa independent compared to Indonesia. And we do have a different moral principle: anak yang berhutang budi kepada orang tua. But idk, gw galau, what do you guys think?

Halo semua,
Gua lulusan S2 salah satu kampus besar di Jabodetabek, S1 di kampus yang "tidak terlihat" di wilayah Jawa Tengah - Timur. Saat ini gua sedang kerja di salah satu lembaga swasta. Untuk S2 ilmu eksakta tanpa pengalaman kerja, gaji gua saat ini >Rp. 5.000.000 dan gaji Tugas-tugasnya bisa gua lakukan dengan baik, utamanya pekerjaan gua itu berhubungan dengan penyelenggaraan kegiatan belajar mengajar, dan didukung oleh grup komunitas. Tidak terlalu ngoyo dengan tech, tapi juga ada tech side yang lumayan buat loncat kembali ke S3.
Lingkungan kerja plus minus, teman-teman gue millenials dan gen z, ada boomer juga (yang tentu sumber kekesalan sekantor), dan ada jatah WFH nya, meskipun saat ini sedang jatah tersebut sedang dimain-mainkan oleh manajemen.
Ibarat kata, they are currently showing their might in front of employees.
Stres ada, tapi lebih ke lingkungan dan hubungan gue dengan komunitas. Lingkungan kerja juga cenderung lambat dan tidak terlalu mengejar target. Makanya nyaman. Gue masih dependen (rumah dan makan saja, dengan bayar bulanan ke ortu).
Gua saat ini sudah masuk bulan ke 7 - 12 bekerja, dan kontrak gue mau habis. Secara default gue akan perpanjang kontrak, kecuali manajemen memutuskan gak suka sama gue lagi. Gue ada pertimbangan mau studi lanjut ke LN, dimotivasi keinginan gue untuk jadi peneliti, pindah ke LN, dan ada dasar pengalaman kerja dengan topik kerja kantor yang kebetulan ada bersinggungan dengan akademisi.
Salah satu yang gue rindukan di dunia kuliah itu "tenggang rasa", "fleksibilitas", "jujur apa adanya", "berani di depan muka". Perilaku beracun (toxic) di kantor itu umumnya pasang muka poker, lalu bicarakan di meja rapat manajemen, dan kemudian jadikan hukuman berjamaah (collective punishment). Juga sifat manajemen yang selalu "melarang pegawai merasa nyaman".
Tapi gua juga sadar, di akademia juga sama sulitnya: jam istirahat tak menentu, tekanan stres bisa memuncak sewaktu-waktu, dan kalau terisolir, sama depresinya dengan saat bekerja. Tapi yang gua rindu dari akademia itu rasa nyaman dan tenteram yang entah kenapa selalu ada, bisa menikmati kebebasan akademik, tanpa terkunkung jadwal yang baku, dan bersih dari office politics (Faculty politics tetap ada, tapi tidak semengerikan dan sekonsisten politik kantor).
Entah kenapa, gue gak terlalu ambisius untuk cuan, meskipun kekhawatiran finansial itu tetap ada, dan gua sadar gua gak bisa dependen terus menerus. Gua juga ingin mandiri dan bisa memenuhi impian gue (minimal fisik atraktif dan punya stamina, ada uang untuk bisa ngapain aja). Di samping itu, gua mau masuk dunia tech tapi sadar dengan hustle culture dan rapid learning culture, gua bakal tertindas juga.
Apakah komodos ada mau berbagi cerita tentang percabangan jalan ini? Antara work dan academia? Gua dulu ambil S2 sempat karena takut kerja, dan skg gua kembali "anxious" dan ingin kembali ke kenyamanan akademia. Apa definisi nyaman teman-teman? Apakah bekerja dari kontrak ke kontrak termasuk nyaman dalam penilaian teman-teman? Apakah teman-teman merasa "terlambat" e.g. terlambat nikah dan punya anak akhirnya harus siap membiayai anak-anak menjelang bahkan saat sudah pensiun, atau terlambat memulai karir sehingga perusahaan impian tidak bisa digapai lagi karena batas umur?
