2024.05.14 21:44 Unusual_Standard4682 Question about diagnosis vs psychological assessment / evaluation

Kind of embarrassed to even put this out there, but I am genuinely confused about the process of therapy, diagnosis versus more formal, psychological, testing and evaluations, particularly related to developmental stuff like autism spectrum and ADHD, etc.
I understand that some of this might vary slightly according to where you practice and even from state to state. At the moment, I work at a small outpatient group practice and really only work with adults, so this issue doesn’t come up for me a lot in my work with clients, but I often encounter desperate parents in the community who are struggling to find resources for their kids. Recently someone posted in our local mom‘s Facebook group needing an ADHD assessment for their child, in order to get an official diagnosis and related resources. They were being quoted like 1200 - 1800 dollars to get this testing done, their insurance was out of network most places, and this was the out-of-pocket cost that they were quoted, not to mention wait times.
I guess I’m confused as to what is the difference between someone coming to outpatient therapy, and me giving a diagnosis of ADHD for our treatment together , versus getting formalized testing done for a “medical diagnosis “
There’s also so much I don’t understand about how this thing works out in the school setting and getting kids IEP needs met. I guess my understanding is that Masters level Clinicians have the ability to diagnose as it relates to what we’re working on in therapy? But our diagnosis doesn’t mean anything when it comes to kids services in school?
Is the diagnosis that we (Masters level clinician, LPC in Pennsylvania, ) come up with in treatment not real? ?
Not even really sure what kind of responses I’m looking for here just like genuinely confused and would like to understand this better because I feel like at this point in my career I should know more about how that works.

2024.05.14 21:42 batmisfitwho WIBTA If I told someone who might be on the spectrum that I don't want to be friends anymore?

So I (M35) have a friend, let's call him James (M31). I met him on a Facebook group about comic books a years ago. I saw he would post things but no one would comment or anything. Checked his profile out, and he lives close to my neighborhood, we follow the same sports, etc. I decided to shoot him a friend request. We chit chat, and once in a while he'd act strange. Didn't think much of it cause it's the internet. I think 2016/17 New York Comic Con, I finally met him in person.
I may sound like a dick when I say this, but when I met him, he seemed "off". He doesn't have down syndrome, but you can tell he's on the spectrum. Not sure how deep, but he's somewhere on it. I didn't care, and I hung out with him. He would disappear on me, and l'd find him minutes later. He would get quiet, stare at things, and just get awkward. I work in the medical field, l've had patients that act like him, so after a while started treating him like a patient.
Next couple of years he would disappear and reappear on social media. He would ask me advice on things like dating, family, friends that he never mentioned before but appear out of nowhere, and life in general. I remember him getting mad at me because he asked me about where to go on a date with a girl with a $40 budget. I told him there aren't much things to do with $40 but gave him ideas. He apparently wanted a memorable date, and gave me ideas what he wanted to do. What he wanted to do costs a couple of hundred dollars. He ended the conversation with "^_^". That's his way of ending a conversation that he doesn't like or the answer given. After a while I asked him about it, he got mad and blocked me from everything. That was like 3 years ago.
Didn't hear from him until about a year and a half ago. He messaged me out of the blue saying how much he misses hanging out with me (we only met once at comic con). He misses the good times. He wants to be friends again. Everyone needs a friend, and I was ok with it. The whole cycle started again, where he would ask questions, and I'd answer it. It went on for a few months. Then a situation happened in my life where I went away. I had a mental breakdown, did something stupid which led to me getting revived, and when I came home my dad passed away from cancer. I'm still dealing with this months later.
So l'm taking on more responsibility, helping my mum out, going to therapy for my trauma, and working at the hospital. Thankfully I have my brother helping me out, so l don't take all the burden. James as always comes to me for help, and advice. Now it's work related, he's 31, has less than $200 in his account, and his job only gives him 8 or less hours a week. He then confesses that he's jealous of the life I live, and wants the same. He says it's unfair that I have season tickets for the Rangers, friends that I go out with, travel, go to concerts etc. He wants to live a life where he doesn't want to worry about money. Gave him the example of what my life was like during my early 20s when I was in medical school, and working 2-3 jobs. I asked him if he's willing to sacrifice 2-3 years of social life to get his life on track, his response "IDK if I can sacrifice it." Even with a response like that I gave him ideas and resources on where to apply to get work. He doesn't listen to anything I said. He only likes to apply to boba shops, and comic book stores.
A little background on James. He's an only child that lives with mom. Mom used to be a hospital nurse and now works at a school as a nurse supporting herself and James. From What he's told me, his family hates him, and can't stand him. Dad passed away years ago. He didn't go to college. All he does is watch anime at home, go to the Apple store and draw for hours on the iPad. Sometimes he has friends and a girlfriend, and sometime he doesn't. When asked about what he was doing since 18 to recently, he won't say or send the "^_^" face. And like I said earlier, he may be on the spectrum.
I truly feel bad for the guy, and everything he's gone through. But right now I'm going through a lot myself. My mental health is my priority, I don't want to entertain things that won't help me in my journey to recovery. It's more that he trauma dumps on me, complains about things, asks for advice that he doesn't take, and expects everything to be handed to him. I feel like he brings more negativity in my life than any positivity. I've never mentioned it to him, but he's never asked me how I'm doing, not once. It's a more of a one sided friendship. So WIBTA if I told him that I don't want to be friends anymore?

2024.05.14 21:40 Psychological_Wall_5 Woo! Progress!

Woo! Progress!
Hold on to hope people, things are moving at a snails pace, but much faster than the sloths pace it was before.
TL:DR - loans have been discharged 100%, sites reflect discharge (BD app site doesn't yet), letter from DoE confirms, waiting (impatiently) on refund(s) to arrive in the mail. Refund matches what I paid after loans were consolidated into direct loans.
June 1997 - pressured to attend ITT Tech, was told I probably would not get in if I waited. Never graduated, wasn't learning anything. Took out loans (FFELP through CitiBank) and still had to pay $300+ a month to attend.
1998 - 2000 - tried paying on loans, defaulted
2005 - loans consolidated into direct loans, tried paying, defaulted
2010 - 2016 - Debt Resolution Group garnished my wages (2016 switched jobs, garnishments didn't follow)
February 2017 - Treasury Offset for all but $86 of my loan (apparently they could only take so much of my tax refund)
February 2017 - applied for borrowers defense
June 19, 2017 (ish) - DoE reviewing borrowers defense claim
February 2018 - paid off remaining balance of loan ($86)
December 12, 2019 - Nelnet emails approval of borrowers defense claim forbearance
December 18, 2019 - Rec'd notification of Sweet vs Cardona class action lawsuit
May 20, 2020 - DoE denies borrowers defense claim
June 16, 2020 - DoE email stating my borrowers defense claim is back under review
August 18, 2022 - DoE emails another letter regarding borrowers defense claim and Sweet vs Cardona lawsuit
February 28, 2023 - Rec'd approval of borrowers defense application from DoE for full discharge
March 21, 2023 - $368.88 credited to my Nelnet account from the DoE due to it taking so long to review my borrowers defense claim.
May 19, 2023 - Rec'd 2 notices on the Nelnet site stating loans #006 and #007 had been paid off. No record of those loans on Nelnet, they were originally through USA Funds, now Ascendium Education.
May 24, 2023 - Rec'd email response from Nelnet regarding payoff letters
June 20, 2023 - waiting on refund and more information. Loans were fully paid off in 2018 and I can't find information on how much was actually paid into them, other than $17.5k through garnishments of wages and tax refunds after default
November 29, 2023 - noticed my student loans on the debt resolution portal reflected negative balances
December 12, 2023 - received a letter from the DoE stating the application for discharge of my student loans had been approved. Letter showed original amounts of loans (at consolidation)
February 21, 2024 - called debt resolution group regarding a refund owed on my account, rep stated I was owed one and would start the process
February 22, 2024 - account on debt resolution site stated refund request started
February 23, 2024 - account on debt resolution site stated refund request was internally rejected
April 12, 2024 - submitted a complaint regarding my refund being rejected on the debt resolution site
April 15, 2024 - received a call (went to vm) stating that it wasn't rejected, just in hiatus for review and they would reinstate the refund request, website reflected refund request started
April 20, 2024 - refund request internally rejected, again
April 30, 2024 - submitted another complaint regarding refund request
May 9, 2024 - student loans reflected positive and negative balances, showed progress on refunds being processed
May 13, 2024 - one loan showed in default with $865 due (part of the process, I assumed)
May 14, 2024 (today!) - received letter (shown) from DoE stating my BD had been processed and I was receiving a refund of $17,505 and change. Have not received any checks as of yet. Checked debt resolution site and my loans are both at $0!
Now I'm waiting (impatiently) for the refund to arrive. Both of my girls are graduating (one high school, one college) this year and I want to take them on a small trip to celebrate. Will update with more information.

2024.05.14 21:39 samdarkinvader Urgent Advice Needed: Byju's Unfair Treatment Towards Former Employees

Hi everyone,
I need urgent advice regarding my wife's situation with Byju's. She was working as an academic specialist (work from home) since January 2022, and everything seemed fine until the company's rights issue surfaced. In mid-March, Byju's paid her only half of her February salary due to this issue.
Then, on March 29th, she received a call from HR, informing her that they were closing their online classes module and asked her to join their tuition center. However, she declined due to childcare responsibilities with our 1-year-old. As a result, HR asked her to resign and return all company assets by April 11th, her last working day under the 15-day notice period.
Now despite complying and returning the assets on April 10th, Byju's hasn't acknowledged receipt or provided clearance.
Moreover, they owe her half of February's salary, full salary for March, and up to April 11th, along with pending PF contributions.
Despite multiple attempts to reach out, including raising tickets, there's been no response other than automated replies.Given her dedication and high performance, this treatment is unjust. She also came across some former colleagues from byjus who haven't got their dues yet.
What legal recourse does she have to expedite the release of her dues ?
Any lawyer who know how to deal this legally or former byjus employees gone through this who can help ? Any advice ?
Thank you in advance.

2024.05.14 21:38 axj1910 Am I right to be upset?

I have a story I would like some help with, I'm going to try to make this as short as I can but there's things I wanna say to help anyone reading understand the situation, so this could be a lengthy one.
Firstly, I'm aware this could seem like a stupid post but idk nor do I trust anyone around me to give me a second opinion bc ppl I would think to go to either don't care, don't know what anything I'm saying even means, or have the same "that's how the cowboys did it" stupid fucking response. So I'm making this post to hopefully hear from ppl who are actually willing to help me see from different perspectives rather than brush me off. Considering not having much to look to, I'm fairly easily swayed by ppl I meet who know more about something than I do bc I want to be able to look up to them.
Secondly, some backstory. I have a 21yr old mare who was abandoned with aggression issues. Just straight up left in the field to rot from a very young age, I know this very well bc she used to be owned by my aunt, who dropped her off at my grandparents' farm, who hated her to begin with and having heard about alleged aggression issues refused to do anything with her themselves, such as find her a better home. My aunt bought her with the intentions of growing and learning with her but didn't know enough to properly communicate and they would fight with each other alot so she gave up.
Well I recently finally got her to let me have this horse under the condition that I can prove I can financially support her needs and give her a better home than they could. This was about a year or two ago she finally said yes after years of asking. So this mare, Eclipse, in fact is not at all aggressive, one of the sweetest horses I've ever known. She's just reactive to improper and unfair treatment. Since she was abandoned and left in a field for 15+ yrs of her life she's never had much work done, this includes her hooves which is what I'm here about.
She has all the health issues u can imagine, half of them 2yrs later I finally have under control and I'm currently trying my best to find solutions and manage what's remaining. I've spent the same amount of time trying to get her to pick up her hooves, she is only as of these past few months confident enough to stand quietly and let me work on her, and when she's not she has learned how to safely tell me so. As you can imagine, her hooves contribute to ALOT of her health problems so this is a top priority for me. I spent a good while making sure she was confident enough working with me before having the farrier out, who she has met many other times before bc he comes here for my other mares.
I now have 3 horses in total, all mares as well as a big burly dog. He's not afraid of anything, he guards the property, he's not aggressive but you're guilty until proven innocent. He has also met the farrier many times.
I go thru farriers like candy bc of my location. They hate being here and tell me that just having 2 horses to work on is a waste of their time so every couple years I'm looking for a new one. My horses have hated every single farrier that has worked on them, bc they come out here with negative attitudes, often in a rush, just trying to get it over with and it resulted in "arguments" between the farriers and my horses each time. My horses are super patient and have high tolerances, I can assure you they do their best to not cause problems but I know that's hard when you're trying to be kind to someone who doesn't care enough to be kind to you.
Story time. This new farrier I have has been around for 2 years. He has competed in blacksmithing and farrier championships and has placed in the top 5 multiple times. My horses are barefoot and only have trims done, so it takes him 5 - 10mins per horse. He is super quick and does a fucking beautiful job. Better than any of the last farriers I've had before. He's super considerate of any physical problems any of the horses might have and very carefully works around them. Idk if this is what had me so blinded or what but I told him I finally have full confidence in Eclipse and we're ready for her to be trimmed. I was excited, I put her thru every test I could think of I made sure she was familiar with farrier holds and the feeling of trims and being handled and so on and so forth. I wanted her done first, so I had her first in line when he came out. She must have known what was going to happen bc she panicked like I've never seen before solely at the sight of his truck. He comes up, I made sure to be clear that considering her history and everything ik about her it's important to be slow right now, and I stressed the fact that it took a very long time to get this far with her. It's her very first farrier appointment. He goes to start working on her, she was okay at first but I could see he was rushing her and it started to scare her and the more she tried to express she was getting scared the more aggressive he got. I told him multiple times to stop and give her a second and maybe I misunderstood and she's not ready. Maybe he didn't hear me, bc he didn't quit. She ended up fighting like her life depended on it and it resulted in him hitting her and pressing his hoof knife into her any time she tried to move any which direction. He ended up only getting one hoof partially cut and left unfinished. He did the rest of my horses afterwards but they were extra reluctant.
I'm pretty upset by the way he treated her. She has marks all over her body from being hit and stabbed and pinched. Her back and shoulders are extremely sore, the muscles have lumps from relentlessly trying so hard to move away from him but then being ripped at and pulled around. She's feeling rough right now. I have made a couple attempts to clean out her hooves again and now she won't let me pick them up. I'm worried that I have to restart everything I did with her. I'm going to give her some time to relax and instead just do bodywork and massages for a while, then pretend we're back at square one, just to help bring back her confidence but I'm so worried that we actually are now set back 2yrs, bc if that's the case not only do I have to re-teach her but I also have to reverse the trauma and the effects of that day.
But now for a plot twist, I'm more upset about how I blatantly ignored my horses. Maybe it was bc I looked up to this guy so much, I'm not sure. But it's VERY unlike me to ignore their signs. All 3 horses AND my dog told me that there's something not right with this guy. The dog cowers around him and hides behind me. The other two horses that have been worked on by him before each time expressed severe anxiety when he'd show up for them, but I let it go bc they still stood for him just fine. They were jumpy, they'd move away from him sometimes, they would try hard to stand quietly for him but they were constantly flinching and jerking their heads up and just very clearly uncomfortable with being handled by him. He has never hurt them as far as I've seen, and I'm always intently watching him work bc I'm so fascinated by his skill.
I wholeheartedly blame myself. We wouldn't be in this situation if I would have listened to the other two horses and my dog. I didn't know what any of the things they were saying or doing meant, but what's worse is that I never tried to either. I saw it and for some reason never thought anything of it. I didn't think to try to understand their behaviour or literally anything, and it took Eclipse's situation now to realize what's actually been going on. I can easily compare it to being in a toxic relationship.
Everyone I've gone to about this has said "you're being dramatic, that's how the cowboys did it" or "that's what happens when you're too nice to your horses".
I can't stand knowing that I'm allowing someone who gets physically abusive upon becoming frustrated to work on my horses. I'm being as honest as I can be about what happened that day, what I saw in the horses, what I saw him doing, etc. It makes me sick to think about. Am I overreacting? What do I do about this?

2024.05.14 21:37 Marauder151 My pitch for a 7 film Soul Caliber movie saga

My pitch for a 7 film Soul Caliber movie saga
So I made this post 11 month ago on Quora and forgot about it until someone liked it today and reminded me of it.
I wasn't in this Reddit group back then and I see it's been a while since there's been any movie discussion type posts here so I thought I'd share my 7 part film saga pitch I had fun coming up with last year, and see what all think. I've attached the link to my original post, filled with nerdy game refrences, so please give it a read.
But to summarize, I'd break up roster of characters and spread them across multiple films, except Sigfried whose in all of them.
Film 1: Cervantes is the main villain, with Sophita, Taki, and the Rock being the main party thar takes him down
Film 2: Kiliks trio versus the Knightmare trio
Film 3: I take a lot of liberties with that games plot. I introduce Tira early, elevate Necrid as an important boss level antagonist, and put Seong-Mina in Raphaels party with him as the main point of view protag. This film is themed on madness.
Film 4: Zasalamel is the main bad guy, and Talim is sort of the main hero along with Sigfried who partied up with Setsuka. And Mitsurugi is a big part of this film too.
Film 5: brings back everyone to fight Algor at the tower. The first real crossover event film in the franchise.
Film 6: most of the characters (all if we can manage it) travel to the future in the aftermath of the last film and see a dark timeline possibility for themselves and have to face their dark future counterparts while trying to set things right.
Film 7: the travel too far back into the past after the last film and end up I the Great War with Luna and Strife. Everyone has an arc to fix it so they don't become what they saw in the future. Also Azwell has been re-written into this past great war as the chief mastermind antagonist, and is responsible for creating the swords. After defeating him they all go back to the future with the swords never created, better people after their adventures with happy endings fitting for all the characters to close on.
I get into the specifics in the Quora post, but that's the general idea. And if I could rewrite it today, I'd probably take care to make use of bonus characters like Arther so that most characters have a theme or lore connecting them to past films. Near every film has someone from Seong Minas village, near every film has a samurai. Re-inventing Olcadad as someone who got his curse like the Lizardman did, because of Hephestus can keep that lore connecting through most of the films. And ofcourse Sigfrieds long arc connects and defines them all.
Let me know what you think of it all. My way of assigning characters to different movies for the first 4 films, the closing time travel trilogy that takes a lot of liberty with SC5, SC6 and SC3, and the Raphal/Seong Mina pair I put together for the film based on SC2. How would you polish off or modify and tweak my pitch to suit your own preferences?

5 Scary Ways Employee Internet Monitoring Technology Is Watching You At Work!

Did you know your employer might have read every email or private message you sent on your work computer? Scary thought, isn't it? Why would they do that? Employee internet monitoring—that's the watchful system tracking your online work habits. Ever clicked on a website and then realized hours have slipped by? Employers are keen to cut down on that. Reading this, you'll learn why monitoring is in place, how it benefits you, and what you can do to bypass the 5 most common methods of employee internet monitoring.

Top 5 Ways How Employers Monitor Internet Activity

Web Content Filtering

Web content filtering functions by employing software or hardware solutions that evaluate and control the websites or content categories an individual can access. For instance, a company might use this tool to block access to social media websites during work hours to ensure employees stay focused and prevent potential security risks associated with these platforms. This approach helps employers enhance employee productivity, maintain network security, and ensure compliance with company policies regarding internet usage.
How to bypass web content filtering. Employees may attempt to bypass web content filtering by using a VPN or accessing blocked content through a proxy server. However, it's crucial to note that these methods may violate company policies and could have consequences.

Firewall & IDS Logs

In your workplace, there are likely tools like firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) that generate logs tracking what happens on the company's network. These logs note things like the data going in and out, IP addresses, and connections. Your employer uses these logs to keep an eye out for unauthorized access, malware, or anything unusual happening online. For example, if you accidentally download something suspicious while at work, these logs record it. This helps your company respond quickly and look into anything that seems out of the ordinary, making sure everything stays secure and compliant with company policies.
How to bypass firewalls & IDS logs. Employees usually cannot directly bypass firewall and IDS logs, as they are backend security measures. However, if employees engage in activities that trigger security alerts, employers may investigate their actions based on the log data.

Keystroke Loggers

Keystroke loggers are surveillance software that track every key you press on your computer. Companies install them to monitor employee activity, ensuring work-related use and securing sensitive data. Imagine typing confidential client information; keystroke loggers record this to prevent data breaches. They also help enforce company policies by flagging non-work-related activities during office hours.
How to bypass keystroke loggers. Use on-screen keyboards or text-to-speech tools as they don't involve physical keystrokes. Additionally, encrypted communication apps can obscure the content of your messages, though this may not prevent loggers from detecting that you've sent a message. Always be aware that attempting to bypass company monitoring tools can violate company policy and have serious repercussions.

Employee Monitoring Software

Employee monitoring software is a tool your company might use to oversee your computer activities during work. Popular brands of employee monitoring software include Time Doctor, VeriClock, and InterGuard. And why might a company use these products? One example is to flag when you send an email containing sensitive company information, ensuring data security and policy compliance.
How to bypass employee monitoring. You could use personal devices during breaks for private communications. However, circumventing these systems can lead to disciplinary action or job loss, so always consider the consequences and adhere to your workplace's guidelines.

Network Traffic Analysis Tools

Network traffic analysis tools examine your internet use, identifying what sites and services you access while on the company network. Companies deploy these tools to spot unusual activity, like accessing high-risk websites, which could introduce security threats. Picture clicking on a streaming service during work hours; these tools alert IT that non-work-related traffic is occurring.
How to bypass network scrutiny. Consider using a virtual private network (VPN), although this may contravene company policies. Alternatively, use your own data plan on personal devices for non-work browsing to stay under the radar.

7 Ways How To Tell If My Boss Is Spying On My Computer

  1. Be aware of alerts and notifications from time tracking and productivity measuring software on your company computer.
  2. Surf for common social media applications and see if they are blocked.
  3. Check the task manager on your computer to look out for any activity monitoring software that you may not be aware of.
  4. Compare the bandwidth allocation and application restrictions on your computer with a colleague’s. If your company computer has more restrictions, chances are you are being monitored by your boss.
  5. Indirectly ask the IT department of your office. This is because not all monitoring software leaves a presence in the task Manager. Some employee monitoring software is more advanced, they run in a stealth-mode and cannot simply be opened.
  6. Open your computer’s webcam to assess if it's operational without your approval.
  7. Read your job contract or your company’s employee handbook. If a clause for employee monitoring is present then surely your boss is keeping a check on your internet usage.

Legal Compliance Tips: Responsible Employee Monitoring for Business Owners

If you're a business owner, you're legally allowed to monitor your employees, provided there's a legitimate business interest. Striking the right balance between managing work processes and respecting employees' privacy is essential. Additionally, employees should be notified before any monitoring takes place. Consent requirements may vary depending on your location.
With the rise of remote work, employee internet usage monitoring software and user activity tracking tools are increasingly popular. These systems help improve productivity and protect against insider threats. While it's true that monitoring can boost network security and prevent data loss, it's important to recognize the potential privacy invasion that comes with it. To maintain trust, encourage employees to keep social media usage limited to personal devices and non-work hours. Here are some things you should consider before monitoring an employees' computer activities:
  • Understand local regulations: Research and familiarize yourself with employee monitoring laws in your region to ensure compliance.
  • Establish a clear policy: Create a comprehensive, written policy outlining the extent and purpose of monitoring and share it with employees.
  • Obtain consent: Obtain employee consent, if required by local laws, before implementing monitoring practices.
  • Focus on work-related activities: Limit monitoring to work-related internet usage and activities to minimize privacy invasion.
  • Be transparent: Clearly communicate the monitoring practices, tools, and objectives to your employees.
  • Avoid excessive surveillance: Steer clear of overly invasive methods, such as keystroke logging or unauthorized webcam access.
  • Regularly review your policy: Periodically review and update your monitoring policy to ensure it remains compliant with evolving legal requirements and best practices.
  • Respect personal boundaries: Refrain from monitoring employees during non-work hours or on personal devices.
  • Prioritize employee trust: Create a supportive work environment that respects privacy while maintaining productivity and security.

2024.05.14 21:37 LastCap2059 I was rejected in a job interview at the very last stage. The feedback I got did not feel quite right. I replied to the HR what I thought about the feedback. Based on my reply AITAH

Redditors, I went through 2 rounds and a case study before my interview with the senior management. I prepared to my level best; case study was complicated which I cracked by focussing on the details, prepared a nice ppt along with the analysis in excel. I researched about the company, listened to the podcast and interviews of senior management. Asked questions regarding the vision of company and value alignment. The senior management stated verbatim "This is the best solution, no one cracked the case study to the extent you did"
Time for the feedback. HR told me that I was rejected and gave me following feedback received from the Hiring Manager. I am also adding my reply corresponding to each feedback.
  1. English was adequate but not great (I replied that the same english got me through 2 interview rounds and a case study round. How come my English became an issue now?)
  2. Thoroughly cracked the case study but overdid it (Either you crack it or don't crack it. What is there about overdoing? On one hand, they want great English on the other hand great problem solving skill becomes problematic. How so? Isn't this contradictory? And what was the point of praising at the end of the interview)
  3. Repeated questions before answering (I confirmed whether I understood the question properly. This had to be done as one of the seniors was speaking softly to the extent of murmur. Is this not appropriate to clarify the question before you move to the answer? The same manager was few minutes late to the interview.)
AITAH to share my thoughts on the feedback shared by the HR. Should I stop putting effort in case studies from future and clarifying questions? Does my replying to the HR regarding the feedback negate my chances of getting an opportunity with this company in future?
PS: When I responded to the HR regarding feedback, they replied that these are overall notes and not the reason for my rejection. I did not push any further. I simply appreciated the responsiveness of the HR and thanked them.

Looking for someone who has an interest, or practices any form of martial arts.
If you simply want to try your luck in a fight, that's fine too.
I'm looking for an opponent for a written Underground Fighting Roleplay. (~40 minutes to 1h30 per fight)
Basically, we fight each other through typing our moves turn by turn until one of us is defeated.
Multiple paragraphs are not needed. 1-3 lines of a good description of your attacks is more than appreciated.
I prefer prompt responses, we set up a time, we fight, maybe we analyze when it's over, and we go about our day. Always nice to make a friend in the process. A fight usually lasts 40 minutes to 1h30 considering replies are prompt. Fights can end much quicker or much later, considering the volatile nature of fighting.

2024.05.14 21:31 whatitdoshordy We live beside our BIL/SIL

This is the first time I have had a truly negative experience with inlaws (I’ve been lucky I know), And maybe im out of line somewhere but its been weighing heavy on me for a while now. Warning this is very long im sorry!
Me and my bf have been living together for a year now and our SIL and my bfs brother are neighours. When I first moved in I thought the dynamic would be so fun and we could all hangout together! My boyfriend however, was never crazy about the idea. Now I see why.
Anyway, time goes on and my bf and I wanted to go to a rodeo and I thought it would be fun to go us 4 (us and the BIL/SIL). So we invite them and they tag along. When we showed up we realized they had no beer tents or alcohol vendors there, ok that sucks but whatever we are here for the rodeo! Oh no, not my BIL. The whole time we are watching from the grand stands, it is non stop complaining about how much this sucks and that theres no booze. Finally, the main event is about to start and he decides we all need to leave because ‘this f*cking sucks!’. At this point im holding back tears because I was genuinely anticipating this event for weeks. The SIL was laughing off his behaviour and not saying anything and my bf was visibly annoyed. This was the cause of one of my boyfriend and I’s first real ‘fights’, although it wasn’t his fault; he did warn me. We didn’t have to invite them to this event but yet we did, and BIL ruined it. So that was my first red flag.
Red flag #2: Errands/favours. Every now and again they would text us and ask if we had extras of something they could use (cheese slices, water bottles, etc.) Which we are more than happy to help out once in a while! But it started becoming frequent. To the point where okay did you guys even bother to do a grocery, when they were both working in town that same day. My bf and I very rarely ask for anything as we are both very independent and organized, we usually have everything we need at the house or if not we make substitutions or do without. It was getting to the point where I couldn’t open their snapchats at the end of my shift because it was most likely them asking for us to pick up something for them. I lowkey (highkey) felt like an uber eats driver! On the other end, BIL who has a border line drinking problem always taking beers off my bf. Apparently it was much worse before I moved in but essentially BIL will ask us if we have any beers before hes finished his last one. It’s gotten to the point where he walks right into the house and opens our beer fridge to look for some (um wtf knock? this is OUR HOUSE not your kitchen also we could be naked like holy shit.) I feel like I almost have to hide my drink when I go outside because if he sees me with one he will want one. Also, both the BIL and SIL work in town, if they know they are running low they should stock up, constantly bumming stuff off us gets old really fast. My bf constantly asks his brother ‘you didnt buy yourself more?’ to which he usually replies ‘well i am out’ (what kind of answer is that lmao). And we live literally 5 minutes away from a store that sells beer, he could send his wife to get some more (but no she doesn’t want to leave the house). Needless to say, they make their poor planning and laziness OUR problem. At one point it got so bad one sunday morning his brother walked over and asked if we have cream for his coffee. We only had the starbucks flavoured creamer so we offered that and I kid you not he says ‘Ew why dont you have regular creamer i wont drink that!’ WHY DONT YOU HAVE CREAMER. Like the entitlement was insane, my bf told him to go get his own creamer and BIL huffed and puffed back to his house. After that incident they stopped for a while but as of now the beer bumming is still very much happening. Just yesterday he walked right in, asked my bf if he had any beers, he lied and said no. BIL walked to and opened our fridge and grabbed beers anyway ‘you do have beers’. Well dont you think if we said no we probably dont want you having them? The entitlement and absolute disrespect of our boundaries was evident. I feel so torn with this kind of thing because you don’t want to be rude and come off selfish by telling them no, but at the same time they are taking advantage of how close we live to each other and for them its convenient to keep doing it and I feel like its not our responsibility at a certain point. Additionally, if we did the same to them, they would not appreciate it. I also notice how my bf and I rarely ask for favours but when we do (ex. bf needs a ride to the garage), they are always conveniently busy. The whole situation is giving selfish.
Red flag #3: Disrespecting our stuff. Last summer my mom’s boyfriend had passed from cancer, and at the same time I was moving in to my bfs. She had given me their very nice blow up pool since she wont have any use for it but she didn’t want to get rid of it either because it was sentimental. We took it, blew it up in the yard and used it in the beginning of summer, it was awesome! My boyfriend had mentioned that his brother hated the way it looked in the yard and thought it looked trashy, (we share our yard but had it on our side). I thought oh well he can have his opinion but its our pool and we are allowed to have it, they also have a small pool they put on the deck for their dog so I didn’t understand the reasoning. Anyway, summer ends and I wasn’t paying much attention but the pool was out of the yard, I had assumed my bf had put it back in its box and in the shed for the winter. So spring comes along and Im walking in the backyard doing something and I notice a plastic blue thing behind the shed covered by sharp metal and wood and its really buried in there. I inspect it closer and I realize it’s the pool! Assuming it was my bf I called him upset asking why he would treat my stuff that way. He assured me it wasn’t him and that he thought that I had put it away for the winter. We both paused and knew right away what really happened. His brother had thrown it behind the shed and covered it. I was baffled at the fact that he had the audacity to take it upon himself to take something that didn’t belong to him and throw it behind the shed like garbage because he didn’t like it. If they had something on their side of the yard that I didn’t like that does NOT give me the right to get rid of it or destroy it! He could have asked us to put it away and even at that it still doesn’t give him the right to dispose of it. My bf confronted him about it and his exact words were ‘I dont give a f*ck.’ My bf has told me he has done this kind of thing before when my bf wanted to sell his budlight umbrella on market place and his brother took it upon himself to take the umbrella and burn it in the fire pit while my bf was on a work trip. I just can’t believe someone can be so inconsiderate and show no respect for another persons property.
Red flag #4: SIL is not self aware at all and has a guise of being a sweet, quiet person but her actions say different. First and foremost, she has a huge issue with the MIL, that is a whole other story but to say the least she has some valid issues with the MIL i will not deny. But, a lot of the things she detests about the MIL she is guilty of herself. In my opinion, they are very similar people and they don’t even realize it. She claims MIL has a huge issue with boundaries and always wants to be part of all the plans that they make. She argues the MIL dictates and controls the situation every time, even if its a plan they invited her to (keep that in mind later). She is right she does do that. It is a very valid thing to have an issue with but on the other end they always want to do stuff with us when we dont! In the past we do and the BIL never DD’s, always gets fucked up on booze or if there isn’t freaks out (the rodeo). The SIL excuses it thinks its cute or has an attitude of ‘aw boys will be boys’ ( drunks will behave like drunks). SIL always wants to be home early for her dog or to smoke weed or both, which is fine if she takes her own vehicle but when she doesn’t its quite a bummer for the rest of us who are having a good time and dont want to exactly leave right when the fun starts. This happens a lot at family events. When SIL wants to leave early she will usually pawn off her husband to us to drive him home, which is not pleasant most of the time when he is drinking because he gets incoherently drunk and argumentative. SIL also dislikes the fact that MIL is very performative and makes out her life to be perfect, and pretends the very real and ever going family issues don’t exist. She is partially right about that but seeing both perspectives I can honestly say SIL is just as if not more performative than MIL. The most obvious reason for her being this way is the fact that she is her husbands biggest enabler. If my bf acted the way BIL acted I would not continue the relationship, but if I did I believe your duty as a partner is to keep each other in check and grow together. Instead, she often laughs it off and has the sentiment that thats just who he is. If she wants to leave early she pretty much gives us no choice but to give him a ride and its hard to say no considering we are neighbours ‘you’ll drive him home right? i told him not to be rude this time!’ (He almost always is, and drunk or sober never says thankyou btw). SIL also does this thing that I never noticed before because it was so subtle and I am trying not to think the worst of people, but until my friends and coworkers confirmed it with me I realized it was rude. So at first, I was still getting to know SIL and I honestly thought she was super down to earth and level headed I felt like I could confide to her and truly build a friendship. To preface, my boyfriend and I have a very happy relationship, but we, just like every other couple, have disagreements from time to time. Unfortunately I chose to vent to her at first and she would always reply something along the lines of ‘my husband NEVER does that, we are so good at communicating’ or ‘My husband always likes when I do that :)’. And the first times I thought nothing of it but then it dawned on me that she wasn’t being helpful, she was just complimenting herself while also putting my relationship down. Once I noticed this, I didn’t stop noticing it. I told her once how I regretted making fun of someone in high school while I was young and dumb and she replied ‘Oh, I was always nice to everyone i met and tried to always be kind:)’. These little comments were belittling me and almost making me feel ashamed for being vulnerable and admitting fault. And it was all disguised as being nice. She will do the same thing with my bf. She will have no issue talking about his faults while in the same breath saying her husband is nothing like that and they do x y and z better. I always hold my tongue when realistically I shouldn’t. If I had the same energy towards her husband she wouldn’t be as calm as I am. The thing is I know my bfs faults and I will agree if you point them out, same goes for my own. But to use our faults against us when we confide in you and you boost yourselves up with it and disguise it as giving advice? Thats not right. Lastly, already touched on this a bit but inconveniencing favours. We ask her for a ride once in a blue moon like im talking twice or 3 times a year if that, and she’s miraculously busy. But she’ll ask us (more me because my bf doesn’t answer anymore and as of now I wont either) to pick her something up at the store after a 9 hour day at work, meanwhile she works from home and her husband works in a city where he could also do the same errand. The other day she asked my bf if I was sleeping (it was 6-7am), and my bf says yes she is. She proceeds to text me while i unfortunately forgot to turn my ringer off. Now I may have fault in this for even entertaining her but Im the type of person who opens snapchats right away, I am trying to get better at this now. So despite my bf telling her Im sleeping aka do not disturb me, she texts me to go bang on her windows because her husband forgot to set his alarm. I told her just one second I will put my pants on and get out of bed and do that for her right away. I should have told her that she interrupted my sleep and went against what my boyfriend told her but I can be bad with people pleasing so I did it anyway. She constantly tells the family she doesnt sleep well with her back pain but she had no problem with the idea of interrupting mine to wake her husband up. She also complains about people walking over her boundaries but she literally ignored my bf saying I was asleep and messaged me anyway.
I think the main problem here is that they have issues as neighbours and as family members respecting boundaries and privacy. I don’t know what else will solve these issues other than my bf really addressing it all or just plain and simple moving out, which is not what we want to do because we love our house and put so much work into it. I could also address it but I feel like they may not be as receptive to me as they would my bf. UGH sorry that was long

2024.05.14 21:30 megaBeth2 I was wrong /psa

I made a song for my mom and my motivation was not to please people on the internet, it was to do the best I can because that's what she deserves...
I made a pretty decent song... it will never be critiqued tho
I realized I get validation from positive and negative reviews of my music
At some point I began making music just for the responses
Are you doing that right now?

2024.05.14 21:27 Excellent-Author-435 My Sister (39F) and I (34F) have a working relationship. Sometimes it seems so much harder than it needs to be, should I fire her/end it, or try to make it work?

I'm going to try my best to lay out the facts of the situation as best as I can. I started a small business about 11-12 years ago, in the beginning it was more of a hobby that I was able to make a little extra money with while also working a full time job. After 3-4 years it had grown into something that was able to fully support me and I've "been my own boss" ever since. I feel really proud of what I've been able to accomplish and I'm also very grateful for the flexibility it provides for me and my family.
in 2018 I started dating my current husband, because of his job he has moved several times across the country, and I knew that if we were going to continue dating/get married that it would also mean moving every few years. Because of the nature of my business it didn't seem logical to try to take it on the road with us. I was able to do 75% of the work for the business myself at the time, and also had a part time employee (30F), we will call her Katie, that would help during busy seasons. My sister (39F) (we'll call her Ashley) at the time was looking for flexible work and I liked the idea of having someone I could trust take over and run the in-person operations of the business in my absence, while I take care of everything that could be done remotely. Initially this was offered to Katie, but she turned it down, and Ashley was very interested in the opportunity. As much as I didn't want to get involved working with family I went ahead with the plan and we came to a verbal agreement on pay and expectations.
Well shortly after I moved away and Ashley took over, Covid hit and we got significantly busier than we had ever been before, to the point that Ashley was not able to complete everything by herself. Katie agreed to come back full time and the business was able to support all 3 of us. Since then it has grown slowly still and we now have 4 full time employees (including my sister and myself) as well as some seasonal staff.
About a year into this new working arrangement, Ashley and her family decided to buy a house about 45 minutes away from where the business is based. At this point Katie was managing most of the daily operations anyway, and Ashley has transitioned to helping more with online customer service and a few things that can be done remotely. Katie took over the permanent position of production manager and Ashley has kind of phased out of any of the daily hands on tasks.
Now a little about our personalities! I am a pretty straight forward laid back person. I'm admittedly not very good at managing people because I just don't want to be bothered with the drama. As long as things are working and moving, that's all I really care about. now IF I need to get involved or address an issue, I will. But I prefer if I don't have to micro manage and be up in people's business. I prefer direct communication, I can probably come off a bit dry and possibly rude if you don't know me.
Ashley is very Type-A. She likes to be in control of all situations and she is very opinionated. She has a hard time seeing other people's perspectives and she can get very stuck on the little things that I generally would just let roll off my back. Her stress and anxiety levels can get rather high.
Since she is my sister, I've known this about her my whole life and I generally am able to ignore the majority of it and everything works out. Every once in a while I need to vent to my husband about something she said, but mostly our working relationship is fine. I think if our roles were reversed and she was the "boss" things would go very differently, but because I maintain 100% ownership and control over the business, ultimately things have worked.
Now, because of our original financial agreement, which is commissioned based/percentage of the profits, I feel that she is significantly over paid for the tasks that her job description has slowly turned into. It's been this way for a few years but because she's family, because I'm not able to be located where the business is, and because we can ultimately afford it, I've kept her employed and paid her according to our original agreement.
Because of her "personality" The other girls sometimes have a hard time working with her and I often hear complaints from them about her micro managing them or her rubbing them the wrong way. She will sometimes come into the office and try to change their systems around, or be involved in processes that really have nothing to do with her and it frustrates everyone. A lot of the time she thinks her way of doing things is going to be better and tends to overstep a lot. When I address these issues with her often she'll get emotional and/or lash out at me in what I consider to be childish behavior.
She's not all bad, a lot of what she's done is good, and I know that she always MEANS well... even if she can come off strong. She is constantly looking for ways to expand and grow and I appreciate that about her. She comes to me with ideas regularly, and although many of them I consider bad ideas and I do turn down at least half of them, there are several that I say yes to, or give her the green light on. I know this frustrates her but I see it as my prerogative as the business owner to say no. I like that she can be another set of eyes for me and can also help me address issues with the other employees as they are not perfect either and I am a remote boss so I don't get to always be there in person.
Lately I find myself getting more and more frustrated with her, I have heard her in the past say to people that she "owns the company with me" which is false but I've never corrected her because really it doesn't matter that much to me. I know I maintain 100% control of all business matters and finances. However, her attitude lately seems to portray more and more that she actually believes what she says. She'll change settings that I have set intentionally, and do things without permission or even a heads up to me. Ultimately it came to a head yesterday when we were having a conversation, not seeing eye to eye, and I had to set a boundary with her. She then proceeds to send me an incredibly passive aggressive email. I sent her a screen shot of said email via text message and said I will not tolerate her being passive aggressive towards me. There was no response from her until this morning when she sent me a text about how I also have things I need to change and that I only ever fault her for things and that I am rude, and that she doesn't know what I want from her. I think because I'm the only one that can stand up to her and I find myself trying to bridge the gap with her and others a lot I end up being the "mean one" in her eyes. Admittedly I am not perfect, however I do try my best to speak to her respectfully even if it may be a bit dry and direct.
I know that letting her go will mean a little bit of fall out from my family and make things a bit awkward when I come home to visit. I think ultimately most of my family understands how she can be and won't completely fault me for not being able to put up with her anymore. I don't want to take the income away from her and her family, as I know they rely on it and are trying to build a new house and have children. I also know that letting her go will mean more work for me in the long run, and I would have to hire and train a new person as customer service/account manager. I am also expecting a new baby later this year and not having her to run things while I take a few weeks off will be hard as well. However I just find myself struggling more and more with wanting to put up with her.
How should I go about addressing and navigating this issue?
TL;DR: My sister and I have very different personalities, she works for me and I've made the relationship work for several years. I think she's overpaid but also she's my sister so I've made it work. But the emotions are getting to be too much and the bad might be outweighing the good at this point.

2024.05.14 21:24 Prestigious_Major276 How to answer every AQA History question... (to get a Grade 9)

Tomorrow's the History exam, and instead of revising and helping myself, I'm doing it for you guys as I have been seeing a lot of memes of people saying they're cooked. I don't want any of y'all to fail so here's how to answer every question on the AQA paper, specifically Germany and Asia as I know quite a lot of schools do these topics. I'm sorry for y'all who do different topics, this is what I do sooo...
Section A: (Germany - Democracy and Dictatorship)
(4) HOW do the interpretations differ?
(4) WHY do they differ?
(8) Which is more CONVINCING?
(4) Describe two problems... The question will ask you to describe two problems/challenges etc. facing, for example, Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1914.
Basically, problem 1: why was it a problem(own knowledge to link back to the question)
problem 2: why was it a problem
That's it. It's only four marks.
(8) In what ways did X change due to Y?
(12) Which of the following was the more important reason why....
Section B: (Conflict and Tension, 1945-1972)
(4) 'How do you know?' - Source question
(12) Which source is more useful?
(8) Write an account of how X led to Y. What you must NOT do is give a step-by-step recollection of an event - the question asks you to explain how it led to something else so you have to relate it to this at every stage of yours response
(16+4) The Factors Question ! Make sure you have enough time for this at the end of your paper - about a quarter of the total marks could be lost automatically if you don't. You have to choose two or three other factors to compare with the given one.
Good luck on tomorrow, I know you will smash it!

2024.05.14 21:23 aerovistae Switched from League to Dota after 3 years, felt like writing up a comparison between the two

After playing League for ~3 years I decided to stop and learn a new game and now have been playing Dota for about 8 months. As I've been learning I've been comparing and contrasting them, and I felt like writing up my thoughts.
I'm not a high ranked player; I was emerald in League and I don't really played ranked in dota. It doesn't matter, since this post isn't about tactics/strategy or how to win-- I'm just talking about the differences between the mechanics of the two games and their clients.
Disclaimer, this is all about Soloqueue. Pro play is a different environment and many things are different. I'm just talking about the average player's experience.
In League's favor:
  • Better lore. It's not a contest really. League's champions all have names and stories that are placed front and center, whereas Dota heroes are more like archetypes than individuals with distinct identities. Instead they're known by a description of what they are, while their "real names" are kind of buried in half-assed bio summaries and infrequently referenced. There's a dude called "Anti-Mage." There's a dude on a bat and his name is Batrider. There's nothing in Dota to compare with the hype lore media Riot produces, like the fiddlesticks rework video or the 10 min yone/yasuo video. Champion lore just gets way more money put into it in League.
  • League has WAYYYYY better champion animations and ability visual designs. This is for me where League blows Dota out of the water. There's really just nothing in Dota that feels like Jhin, or Ekko, or Aphelios, or Senna, or so many others. With rare exception, almost all the champions in league have aspects that FEEL amazing - great sound design / animations / feedback delays that are incredibly rewarding. Dota's heros are really fun to play and I'm having a great time, but if you put them side by side with like 90% of League's cast, the animations of their abilities and movements just feel kinda flat by comparison. One of the easiest side-by-sides is Darius vs Dota's hero "Axe" -- he has the same ult as darius, completely identical except for darius ult's interaction with passive. But all Axe does for his ult visually is a little hop and swing of the axe. It's really lame. Compare that to the awesome sound of a Darius ult kill, with the fear, especially on the God-King skin, and it makes Dota look 20 years old.
  • Skillshots! In Dota most abilities are just unit targeted, so they can't miss. There are skillshots too, but they're far fewer. In league skillshots are kind of the norm, and aiming them and dodging them is a big part of the game and it's fun to do so and makes you feel cool when you land them or dodge them. Having nearly everything be unit targeted isn't bad, it's just different, but it is something I enjoy a lot in League.
  • Cooler duels in league, and more of them. Dueling is a big part of league and it doesn't seem to be such a big part of Dota except maybe a bit in mid. Everyone in Dota has teleport (instead of recall), and it only has like a 1 minute cooldown. So whenever a fight starts, people teleport in and it becomes a teamfight. There's only one 1v1 lane (mid), the other two are 2v2 lanes. So there's much less of the 1v1 culture of League where people get to solo each other and take pride in the results. The lack of skillshots in dota plays into this too, since landing or dodging skillshots can definitively contribute to the outcome of a duel. With that mechanic less prominent, statchecking is a bit more common.
  • Very little 1v9 potential in Dota by comparison. Dota has FARRRRRR more CC than league, it's not even close. League feels like it has no CC compared to dota. In dota there is an item anyone can buy that silences a point-and-click target for 5 seconds, and another that polymorphs for 3 seconds, and so on. Many such items. There's a support who can root you for 4 seconds AND polymorph you for 3, and a carry who can silence you for FIFTEEN SECONDS with his ult. In such an environment, no one person can solo carry a game most of the time. You HAVE to work with your team. So if you love 1v9ing, League wins hard on that. But at the same time this can be a negative for league - it means there's more ego and less teamwork. People in dota are by default much more inclined to work together, because in the face of such powerful tools they HAVE to.
  • Recalling isn't a thing in Dota, which means the game is kind of constantly pedal-to-the-metal. It can be kind of nice to take a breather in League for a few seconds and stretch your arms while walking back to lane, given how intense the game can be.
  • In dota, holding tab doesn't show you what items people have built, nor their CS, and it's super frustrating. You have to click champion portraits individually to see their items, and you can't see their CS at all aside from your own. Probably hard-core dota loyalists will say this is part of the skill of the game, but honestly it's just annoying/bad UI design that they sort of got used to and became convinced was "part of the game" imo. It's really stupid and annoying.
  • In League you can buy as many wards as you want, whereas in Dota there's only ever a finite number available in the store which is SHARED among your team and then goes out of stock until it replenishes on a timer. I hate having to share wards with the team in dota, and the store being out of them. I understand it's part of the game and managing that is part of the skill of dota, but I find it tedious and don't really enjoy it as a mechanic. Additionally, wards take up an inventory slot in dota the same way control wards do in league, and it's just annoying.
  • Better champion skins, frankly. Some of League's skins are just amazing, as we all know. I would say there is very little cosmetic content in Dota that can compare to High Noon Senna or God-King Darius or [insert your favorite skin here.] There are cool skins, but it's just not the same. In Dota you can buy individual things, like updating a sword or a hat or a belt or a single ability's effect, all purchaseable separately. They have some full-kit skins, but that's not emphasized as much as in League where it's the standard and the only option, and they're just not as visually impressive.
In Dota's Favor:
  • All heroes are free from the start. It's great for trying them out and learning the game.
  • The game is less punishing to learn than league, for a multitude of reasons. Don't get me wrong, it still has an enormous barrier to entry and a steep learning curve, but it's just less painful. Everyone who ever learned League remembers what it was like in those first couple months being alone in lane against people who have been playing for years - especially in top lane or mid lane - and just getting fucking demolished 1v1 and not even being able to play. That doesn't happen as much in dota. First of all two lanes are ostensibly 2v2 and only one is 1v1, although there's a lot more roaming by the supports. There's also no jungler role, a role in league which often leads to that player being blamed for everything that goes wrong in a game. And then there's WAY more sustain - in Dota you don't recall to buy items, you have couriers ferry them out to you. So you can just kinda constantly have Dota's equivalent of health pots brought out to you, and only TP to fountain rarely when you're super low. This means there's a lot less crying under turret while zoned off CS unable to play.
  • Much better tools for learning. The tutorial is better. You're able to click other heroes to see their abilities in-game. There's a guide system full of user-contributed content where you can pick one in-game and it tells you what to buy and how to use that item on this hero, as well as how to use your abilities by just adding little user-written snippets to the tooltips when you hover them. League does have recommended items and recommended order for ability-levelling, but the fact that you can choose between different guides for different roles in dota is huge, and the text telling you when/why to use specific items for a hero is also majorly helpful. Imagine if you could pick a different guide in game for Senna support vs Senna adc, etc, that recommended specific choices based on the role and neatly fitted those recommendations into the UI.
  • Dota has way, way, way more interesting items. There are so many active items in Dota, and they feel much more impactful. By comparison nearly every item in league is just a statstick that gives one form or another of more damage or more tank. In Dota there are items that silence for 5s, that disarm (teemo blind) for 3s, that root an aoe for 2s, that polymorph for 3s, that reset ALL your cooldowns including ult (this one has a 5 min cooldown, the rest are <20sec.) Dota's version of Thornmail has an active that hugely amplifies the reflected damage for 5second, so the item feels great to use and has more skill expression - you time the active correctly when someone is focusing you and it makes a big difference. Given that most effects last 3-5 seconds, it's not about super-precise timing like in League so much as it is about broader strategic choices of using it early or late in a fight, etc. The only items in league that feel as strong as Dota items are Zhonyas, GA, and Locket, with honorary mention for the perennially overpowered botrk.
  • Dota has a way more beautiful map. It's not even close. Dota's map has so much going on. There are far more jungle camps, there's trees everywhere (which many hero abilities interact with in different ways!), there's high ground and low ground. There's so many different places and different entities and landforms, and it's just beautiful. League's map feels empty and stale by comparison. It's much smaller than dota's map, the jungle camps have fixed contents that never change (dota's camps rotate and change during the game). Not even to mention that Dota's map is divided in half and each team's side looks completely different from the other half. As opposed to league where they're identical but just rotated.
  • Aghanim's shard and scepter. These are the my favorite things in Dota that league doesn't have. What are they? They're two items you can buy that each have a different effect on every single individual hero in the game. On a case by case basis, they either UNLOCK ENTIRE NEW ABILTIES (literally the UI expands to add a new slot when you buy them) or they upgrade one or more of your existing abilities to have entirely new effects. This is just so cool and I was shocked when I learned about them. It's just so fun being able to gain new abilities even late in the game.
  • The talent tree, which is like an ability customization tree you progress through over the game and which is specific to the hero you're playing. In Dota the max level is 30, and every 5 levels in the game from level 10 onwards, you can unlock a "talent", at which point you pick one of two options to upgrade your hero. It might add 1s to your Q's stun. It might decrease the mana cost of your W. It might give you +250 base health, or +50 AD. It might add entirely new effects to your abilities, like making what was previously just a rooting projectile also start silencing. By level 30 you will have gotten to unlock everything in the tree (you don't typically reach level 30 very often in ranked games). Imagine if like at level 25 you could add "Mundo Q grounds for 0.5s" or "Irelia E +200 range". It's stuff like that and it's so fun.
  • Dota is more team-oriented. Due to the prevalence of long-lasting debuffs/cc from both items and hero abilities, no one person can really just solo carry to the same extent as in League. In my experience you only very rarely see someone 1v9 in Dota, and usually it's because the enemy team is just making stupid choices. This makes the game a bit more tolerable on average, although you encounter the same toxicity as in league just the same.
  • Dota has built-in voice chat. This actually does come in handy a lot. Hate not having it in league. It's typically effective and you can mute people in voice just the same as in chat so it's rarely been problematic in my personal experience so far.
  • Dota has "turbo mode." This mode is just great. Wish league had it. It's basically norms, but with aram-level gold income so all players get to full build in like 20-30 min without even powerfarming. It's really fun and great for learning, experimenting, and playing casually with less commitment.
  • In dota you don't recall. This means more time spent out on the map playing. Instead all players have the equivalent of the teleport summoner spell constantly available, which lets you take part in more plays. You also don't back to buy items, instead they get ferried out to you by little minions, which is great. Having items shipped out to you constantly instead of having to spend time retrieving them is awesome.
  • Better demo tool by far. League's practice tool is notoriously shitty. Being able to open the demo tool while you're waiting in queue in Dota is amazing. Can't do that in league.
  • Dota has 3 additional inactive item slots called the backpack. Love being able to hold 3 additional items that you can swap in or out (they're not usable from the backpack and you don't gain their effects, but you have them on your person to swap into from main inventory if you want). Just gives you nice flexibility when holding consumables and building stuff.
  • Neutral items. This just doesn't exist in league and I wish it did because these are really fun and cool. When you kill neutral jungle camps in dota they drop items, and the power level of the items scales over the course of the game, from weak ruby crystal type stuff to things that are as strong as rabadons. And they don't take up a normal inventory slot, so you effectively get an actual 7th item in dota.
  • The system for checking out customization and skins. Dota's system is pretty different, where instead of buying holistic skins that change everything, you can customize individual parts of a heroe's appearance, like their hat or their sword or their belt or gloves. There's WAYYYYY more options than in League, and you can try them all out in the client to see how they look.
  • Cosmetics for things other than the heroes/champions themselves. In League you can only buy champion skins. In Dota you can buy cosmetics for the ancient (nexus), the towers, the creeps, the map, etc. None of that exists in League. We fucking WISH we could buy that kind of stuff. Riot are you listening?
Conclusions
On the whole I'd say there's more things to like about Dota than about League just in sheer quantity of bullet points, but regardless I love both games and think they're both really fun. If Dota improved their lore, their animations, and their tab screen and League improved their cosmetics store and had a more interesting and dynamic map, plus neutral items and agh's shard & scepter, I wouldn't really have any major complaints about either of them.
I think anyone who loves one game could potentially love the other one too and it's totally worth learning whichever one you don't already know, if you have the time. Obviously these games take a ton of time and most people barely have time for one let alone two. But if you're young especially, they're both really fun.
It's pretty hard for me to see eye-to-eye with the people who love one game and ferociously hate on the other - it seems childish and kind of empty. To not find one as fun as the other, sure, that's one thing, but to expend energy hating it and constantly shitting on it, that just confuses me. You can have a favorite while still acknowledging the other as a comparably enjoyable game.
One final note - one of the things I found most interesting about comparing them is seeing which mechanics are normal in one game that would be overpowered in the other game.
In Dota there is a hero named Nature's Prophet whose W is TF ult minus the vision. It has a one minute cooldown, going down to eventually 0 cooldown late game, and he can access it from level one if he chooses to. Nature's prophet would likely have a >90% wr in League.
But then in League we have Zilean and his stupid ult on a one minute cooldown, while in Dota that only exists as a one-time use item (like GA) that you are rewarded with when you defeat their version of Baron, and it is basically the strongest item in the game. Zilean would likely have a >90% wr in dota.

2024.05.14 21:20 YallKeepBanningMe2 Let’s keep the mood high here and be mindful of how we treat others.

When others in this forum post things that bring them joy or ask for help, it’s very aggravating to have scammers, sellers, trolls, and others who are just angry at life derail every post. You can dislike something without being nasty or disparaging to others. I made a post that wasn’t meant to hurt someone but to ask, and it hurt them so I took responsibility here and apologized. This is a place of inspiration and sharing. If someone having something makes you that angry, you need to evaluate why it feels like that! I’m committed to keeping the mood here high and not responding to nonsense.

2024.05.14 21:19 justfloatingalong Hormone Testing Question

In the past and recently I've had abnormal levels of certain hormones that doctors have retested and they came back normal then or considered the abnormal level mild and no further testing needed. These include prolactin, testosterone, and dhea-s.
I've been having very painful cramping and fatigue with periods. I know this is normal to an extent with periods but it feels so bad at times it affects my ability to work and do daily tasks.
This latest period I continued to have extremely painful cramping and fatigue after last day. It came to a level of pain so severe I collapsed on the ground and couldn't move or get up for a while.
I had an ultrasound shortly after that same day that came back normal but noted pelvic free fluid: trace physiological fluid (I know pelvic fluid can be normal). I wonder if I had an ovarian cyst, but I know these can be normal to get sometimes. And I know pcos would have shown up with the ultrasound, but they said it was normal.
I know there are so many variables and lifestyle factors that can affect hormone levels and how you feel. I'm feeling a little lost...I know some women get written off by doctors when maybe further testing and investigating would be helpful, but I also don't want to be a hypochondriac worrying about my health, possible conditions, and wanting testing done that is unnecessary.
My doctor said my dhea-s level was mild and nothing further was needed. But I'm still having negative symptoms: pain in my pelvic area, fatigue, nausea, low appetite, light-headedness. I will say there are things in my life that are causing me stress, maybe my diet and activity levels need to be better. I don't know...any guidance, tips, or support would be much appreciated.

2024.05.14 21:14 YouExcellent1831 I just walked out on my first ever sous chef position. Contemplating leaving industry.

Context:
I am 25. I grew up in a family who owned and operated pizzerias in NY. I had started working on the register when I was 13 and started summer jobs as a Bussehost when I was 14. The restaurants I worked FOH were 4star high end (worked for 3). I have also always had a serious passion for cooking. When I was 18 I moved out of my home and began working for a dairy farm, then transitioned to a smoothie/salad/vegan gluten free oriented places (19-21). I was a manager making specials like gf desserts, ready to eat salads, and also worked on their equivalent of a “line”. It was not refined whatsoever, clean, simple food. Did that for 2 years. Then quit during Covid after having tremendous stress, after helping reorient the entire business to be more grocery focused as we had a store front with organic, superfood tonics, meats, plant based stuff, etc. I had issues with the kitchen manager as she treated me differently than the other staff. I immediately applied for a junior sous position at a restaurant that was upscale dining, and after a trial day they were willing to train me on garde manger. I worked their and trained under two very capable chefs who were willing to teach me everything. One 36m another 29m who was actually head chef. I moved my way up to hotline after a yr and a half and was enjoying the job, environment, coworkers, and we would do about 200 covers a night in the summer. I carried on with the company for another year even after my head chef gave a months notice and took a much better more cdc job for a larger more high end company. I took on more responsibilities and and finally decided I had reached my ceiling of learning from that restaurant and I wanted to move overseas to broaden my skillset and resume but felt like I picked the wrong country/restaurants as the food was not on par even with the smoothie salad place I started at. I moved home a year later (2024) and was offered by my now cdc chef, same one who trained me and really vouched for me. I executed a 7 course tasting for the first time ever, dishes ranging from quiche, to pork chop, sole(which I had never cooked before), chicken pot pie, croquettes, salad, basque cheesecake, I made my own stock even, and I had a day of prep and the following day to plate. I landed the job over 4 other people. It was for a “family oriented” but upscale bistro as it was on main street in a very affluent town in NY. We have investors, had a full reno as the spot had been a local favorite for 30 years a recently sold. We lost a lot of time we were supposed to be in the kitchen and the prospective opening day was for May 3rd. It got pushed back to the 10th, friends and family 7th and 8th, training of staff was 5th and 6th, while simultaneously doing recipe testing with chefs that had been brought in from other existing locations. Unbeknownst to my cdc, the investor, and restaurant owner, they hired a head chef from nyc that made good food, but could not complete 95% of tasks that were crucial to opening a restaurant, onboarding employees, understanding the kind of volume our town does in summer, actually cooking volume, properly executing recipes, having any recipes of his own that weren’t fresh off google, said he spoke Spanish and then couldn’t communicate to our staff which were all Hispanic spare 1 line cook I hired and use to work with at my first job, the wastage was off the charts, he couldn’t do inventory properly, and spent half of the time speaking constantly and ignoring everyone thinking he’s “working hard”. I took it upon myself to try and execute recipes I had 3 days to learn, make stocks, train employees and learn how to schedule, organize a kitchen from the top down, clean kitchen after a full Reno, and my cdc and the business owner kept assuring me it was not my fault that things were going sideways and that the head chef was completely incompetent and they were actively looking for a replacement. I couldn’t keep up with the prep as hard as I tried, the walk in was a disaster. Felt like every time I organized it my head chef would receive an order and do things like put raw chicken on top of produce. I found cheeses on shelves and raw ground beef in dry storage left out overnight bc of him. He would just constantly talk and talk and talk about everything and nothing, call me in the off hours to talk about a tart mold that he wanted to make in house for 2 hours. Mention things I could do to loose weight, and it was just constant stimulation leading up to the actual opening and during. All the while he would delegate every single one of the the more complex recipe tasks to our untrained employees (sauce work, chopping herbs for garnish, cutting salmon, tuna for line and for Tartares) and I felt obligated to try and pick up as much of his slack. And if I’m being realistic, I as much as the owner and former cdc who hired me believed in me, I still had a lot of refinement to do in my skillset. I have very shakey hands by nature so my knife skills leave a lot to be desired. Also I can’t just bang out a beurre blanc or mornay without thinking about it. I still have to watch and follow a recipe a few time to get the hang of it even though I understand the principles well. I anticipated a balance between my head chef and I and direction. And the worst part is, he would agree to certain tasks and I was the only one trying to organize our flow of prep, made a detailed prep list because his made absolutely no sense, and we would split tasks, I’d execute mine, and he would spend 4 hours chopping mushrooms and par cooking them even though the pick up was raw as per the owner and cdc. It was absolutely maddening. I started having break downs everyday after work NEVER on site; even when to a psychiatrist in between one of our friends and family days to get the non narcotic equivalent of Xanax. I ended up walking out yesterday (13th). More like called and said I wasn’t coming back after my first day off in a week of straight 14 hour days constantly trying to pick up the pieces my head left behind. I have never walked out a job. But now after all of this, I am questioning whether I will ever be able to have a management position in the kitchen. Asking myself, did I progress too quickly? Am I just not capable? Have I completely exhausted myself in the kitchen? Also, I am sober spare nicotene which I consume like an absolute fiend right now. Any insight is appreciated. Please feel free to ask for more context as this is quite the ramble. Also have photos for reference of the food I’ve cooked over the years .
