Ok, Before I begin, this is my longest Story yet. It was only meant to be a short story, but I don't think 40 pages on a google doc can fit in a single comment thread, so expect multiple posts. Second, I'd really appreciate feedback, even if it's just in the form of an upvote as it really encourages me to keep up this creative outlet. That's all from me, enjoy the story.

We were tricked, completely and utterly duped. It hit us not like a train, but like a lit fuse approaching a massive stack of trinitrotoluene that we were too blind to see until we found ourselves crammed into the tens of thousands of “Corporate Nexuses” that occupied every startup colony, production world, trade hub, and capital world; working ourselves to death. The worst part? We had nobody else to blame but ourselves.
We were blinded by our hubris, our minds stuck in the past, refusing to adapt. All it took was one fledgling, pre-FTL race that made adaptability a main point of their society and culture. One society with just enough cunning to see through and undermine us and our ploys. One Species to pull off what the Humans called “The Greatest Con Game In The History of The Universe.” So where to begin?
We first discovered Humans when they had nearly finished construction on their star’s [Dyson Swarm], though to us, given the vast distances between the galactic core and Earth, we only noticed a minor anomaly, a stable G-class main sequence star flickering in the void of space. It seemed as though someone, or something, was trying to either signal us, or power their stellar civilization for the first time. But in reality, the structure was already done.
When we dropped out of warp roughly [2 AU] away from their 4th gas giant, we immediately began picking up massive arrays of signals and spikes of energy. Turns out our exploration drones had just wandered into a system-wide intraspecies conflict. Spikes in both heat and radiation from nuclear warheads littered their second asteroid belt as our sensors picked up on hundreds, no, thousands of ships, primitive in nature, sure, but still armed [to the teeth]. Their similar design and technological levels seemed to back the idea that this was the same species blowing each other up, and not some other race or civilization.
The last thing our exploration fleet picked up was the warning of multiple target locks as [4 dozen] missiles were launched from what we presumed was a frigate, at our drones. Our drones took evasive actions, though nearly all of them were destroyed in nuclear fire. Only one survived by being manually overridden and found a crater in a massive asteroid to hide in. The human forces must have thought they were of the enemy’s as it never came back up in diplomatic discussion when first contact was established, but I digress.
We weren’t ready to give up first contact just yet so we had our drones observe from afar and move in only when it was safe. We recorded the entire battle. Despite their relatively primitive technology, their ingenuity couldn’t be understated. They used remarkably simple solutions that likely would have ravaged our then-finest warships. We watched as swarms of nigh-indestructible drones simply carved through ship after ship, targeting weak points like reactor cores and bridges that would completely disable the ship. The only thing, it seemed, that could stop these drones were other drones of similar make and model.
Other times, when that didn’t work, we saw them fire missiles at extreme speeds directly into the hull of the enemy. Miraculously, however, they didn’t explode or tear through the armor, they merely embedded themselves into the ship and sealed the holes they made. We found this odd, perhaps a series of malfunctions? Or Factory sabotage? Subterfuge wasn’t uncommon in galactic wars, it was an art that was hard to master, but given the unorthodox yet effective tactics of these primitives, the assumption could be made that they had become proficient in the art of espionage as well.
But we noticed something odd. Several ships struck by these missiles began taking hits to their weapon efficiency, and they began suffering power shortages before going completely offline. A short while later the missiles would extract themselves from the armor and return to their mother ship, and the victimized ship would spontaneously self-destruct when all of the missiles had long departed.
A closer examination of these weapons told us that these were not missiles at all, but boarding shuttles! How could any species survive those levels of [G]-forces!? We once again watched the carnage repeated on another small ship. Watching several heat signatures, these entry teams would breach the hull of the ship and disperse in two separate directions before our sensors stopped picking up on them. We could fill in the blanks from there: They would go through the ship, butchering the crew and initiating the self-destruction of the ship before escaping with their lives.
Pirate tactics, minus the unnecessary depredation of valuable loot, I suppose.
When the battle finally cleared, after [16 Earth Standard Days] mind you, a ridiculously long time to be [duking it out], We watched as the surviving ships scoured for survivors, occasionally firing off a few nuclear warheads at the corpses of large combat apparatus before they turned tail and headed towards what our sensor’s picked up was what appeared to be an outer system shipyard. Our drone was given the go-ahead to move further into the system which became harder and harder to do in secret. There were at least several hundred orbital habitats and [lunar] colonies were spread out across the system, most, if not all of which we had to evade. For [13 Earth Standard Months] we had to hide our drone in what we later learned was one of the “Trojan” belts because one of their gas giants, and all of its dozens of lunar colonies, were giving us a shallow berth in detection ranges.

We enjoy each other's company and rarely argue. However, I'm confused about his feelings towards me. He mentioned that he promised his late wife he wouldn't love anyone else before her passing. His wife reassured him that he could love again and move on. Initially, he thought he wouldn't date again, he told me after five years after her passing, he feels “normal” again.
He also stated that he would never say 'I love you' to another woman. Yet, he said it once to me on the phone, then quickly changed the subject and hung up. When I directly asked if he loves me, he responded by saying he cares about me. I asked him what he meant by that, he asked me the difference between caring and loving, I couldn’t really answer, he insisted they have the same meaning. So, he claims to care about me but actually means he loves me. I find this a bit confusing and immature.
Eventually, I want to start a family and get married. But I'm just not sure what he wants. Sometimes he says he wants kids with me, and other times he says he's not sure if he wants a 'normal' relationship again. He just keeps changing.
He once mentioned that he can’t replace her. I told him I’m not here to replace her and what we have is something different than what they have.
I'm not sure if I should give him more time because I feel like he's worth it, or just move on. I truly feel bad for what happened to him. I have been very understanding of his situation. I’m still in my twenties and not in a rush to start a family.

 | First time watching wwe in about 20 years and I was a twice a week, stay up past bed time to watch viewer. submitted by Vodca to Wrasslin [link] [comments] 1) The space the wrestlers have in the arena seems to have shrunk.. the amount of space the superstars have to maneuver seems so much smaller. In that fatal 4-way it really hit me how much less space they have. (I could just be remembering from when I was a kid) 2) announcers were great. I didn’t no that pat macaphe guy was an announcer and I really didn’t mind them. It made me happy he was so into that uso guy. Made me a fan of uso as well. 3) the females are so much more dynamic. They aren’t all just sex appeal outfits or arm candy. The queen of the ring is really cool and the women seem to be really fucking going for it. The moment when the other Irish chick came out and helped etc, I was legitimately excited and a fan of those two ladies. 4) Otis was my favourite from the night. There seems to be so much you can do with that character. The “dim” and quiet but charismatic in the ring. I fucking loved it. He got me excited and hyped up. The battle in his head about the hip gyrating and worm pulled me into that match 110%. I want to see more of that guy. He reminded me of some old school dudes. Animals but still have that streak of funny/charming charisma. 5) Iyo sky really impressed me, she gave me hardy boys vibes off the rip and didn’t disappoint at all. My wife and I loved her yells and screams while doing moves, she was awesome and became my favourite female star immediately (they don’t call them divas anymore right ?) 6) uso was cool. His character seemed dated but you could tell how massive he was. The crowd with the phones was so cool to see. I got very excited about how much the crowd was into it. 7) some negatives .. the commercials. Holy fuck the commercials. I was very excited to watch raw and within 20 min I had already watched 8 minutes of commercials. when i was in like 7th grade and like 12 years old (im 16 now by the way) i dated this girl on and off
and when i say on and off i mean like 5 times in the span of 2 years (2020-2022) in which they broke up with me and then asked me out again 5 times
back then i was stupid and i went back every time bc i thought we were in love
i wont go into detail about the relationship because 1) i have zero care for how i was treated back then anymore, im over it 2) it was a lot and id be here forever even if i did want to talk about it
but to sum it up all of my friends absolutely hated this person and were mad i was dating them and were over the moon when we broke up for good
after a couple months after our last breakup we did what has always happened after we broke up and we formed a friendship again, i went shopping with them and got food with them, car rides with them etc
in 2023 i started dating the most amazing man i could have ever asked for, he has truly been a blessing in my life and has really changed my life for the better, and to top it all off he has really shown me how a healthy relationship should be. He has shown me so much kindness and has gone above and beyond for me and i'm so appreciative of him and all his kindness, he has taught me real love

to be perfectly clear my boyfriend is the furthest thing from controlling, and im very offended that my ex is 1) trying to bad mouth him and 2) painting him as controlling and assuming im only destined for toxic manipulative controlling relationships like the one i was in with them

and when i say on and off i mean like 5 times in the span of 2 years (2020-2022) in which they broke up with me and then asked me out again 5 times
back then i was stupid and i went back every time bc i thought we were in love
i wont go into detail about the relationship because 1) i have zero care for how i was treated back then anymore, im over it 2) it was a lot and id be here forever even if i did want to talk about it
but to sum it up all of my friends absolutely hated this person and were mad i was dating them and were over the moon when we broke up for good
after a couple months after our last breakup we did what has always happened after we broke up and we formed a friendship again, i went shopping with them and got food with them, car rides with them etc
in 2023 i started dating the most amazing man i could have ever asked for, he has truly been a blessing in my life and has really changed my life for the better, and to top it all off he has really shown me how a healthy relationship should be. He has shown me so much kindness and has gone above and beyond for me and i'm so appreciative of him and all his kindness, he has taught me real love
when me and him started dating i stopped being around this ex
- because now that i was dating my amazing boyfriend i realized i used to hang around them in some hope they'd show me that temporary love again (i was very blind and easily controlled 👎)
- because now that i had realized this and was finally aware of how awful the situation had been and was now completely over them i realized they have always made me somewhat uncomfortable
anyways, my ex hadn't tried to reach out to me since and they honestly haven't crossed my mind in half a year i thought (and hoped) that was the end of the story
TILL RECENTLY my friend group from one of my school activities is also somewhat friends with my ex, and this has never bugged me, but apparently it has bugged my ex strongly.
because half a year later since i stopped talking to this ex apparently they have started complaining to my friend in this shared group about how they • feel excluded when im around • feel i've been ignoring them • and how they believe this is all my boyfriends fault, and that my boyfriend is "controlling" who i talk to
its escalated because they brought it up to my friend again and said they were going to "confront" me about it?????
this kinda happened a couple months ago when they asked this friend if i dating my current boyfriend and trying to get info, but my friend said they should stop being weird.
Now they are back at it worse than before??
why can't they just let me go and leave me alone?
to be perfectly clear my boyfriend is the furthest thing from controlling, and im very offended that my ex is 1) trying to bad mouth him and 2) painting him as controlling and assuming im only destined for toxic manipulative controlling relationships like the one i was in with them

- The kids arriving late to school 2-4 times per week, every week for months in her custody. She lives 10 avenues away. The kids often say she loses track of time while on her phone
- That she is often having terrible fights frequently, especially with our eldest child (10) who she argues with like she did with me. She has grabbed her face in anger, slapped her arm and called her "malade mentale" (sick in the head)
- She left our kids to shop with food on the stove that boiled over requiring my kids to leave my ex's apartment and seek help from a neighbor
- She hasn't worked a full time job anywhere in a year since leaving, working only weekends she doesn't have custody forcing me to pay larger support payments
- Despite not working she regularly leaves the kids at daycare after school even later than myself who works a 40 houweek job
- My kids have often described how their mother is secluded in her room and the only interactions at home are during supper time. She lives on her phone and my kids just sit around on tablets and watch TV. She is not emotionally available at all
- My kids have described their mother frequently crying and arguing on the phone. They also say she has a bad temper and very impatient with them. They have described being frightened of her and asked me not to raise my concerns when they tell me because they are worried my ex will get mad at them for telling me
- When the kids have been sick with high fevers in my custody she hasn't inquired once how they are doing, if we went to the doctor and ignores me filling her in
- When the kids are sick with her or have other medical issues she does not tell me. My son had a rash being treated behind his ear and he was here for 3 days before he told me it was really bothering him (itchy). I didn't continue treatment or provide treatment for days as I was unaware. Recently my daughter has had frequent nosebleeds and I only discovered when she herself brought it up "my nose is bleeding again" and it was the first time I heard of it
- My ex has been in therapy for a year now and regularly changing mental health medications and describing herself as foggy, not thinking straight
- Our kids met my ex's affair partner recently when they were both sick and the first meeting he was left with the kids for hours while their mother went to work. She then took the kids for a weekend getaway with him and his 3 teenage kids forcing them to stay the night instead of anything neutral and/or gradual
- She blocked my number 6 weeks ago after I texted her "it would be expected and courteous to advise me when showing up at my house to drop something off" when she just showed up one weekend morning on my doorstep. I now have no way to reach my children and talk in her custody and in an emergency when I have custody I cannot contact my ex.

So I just learned about the bumble controversial ad campaign last night. After reading a lot of comments and posts about it, I realized the issue is a lot deeper than it initially seems in headlines. I highly recommend reading some of the discussion around the topic. It's not simply about celibacy or deciding to have sex. Many people felt it invalidated, or completely overlooked, the experience a lot of women are having in dating in recent years. This connects a lot into the "choosing a bear in the woods vs a man" debate, as well as the 4B movement. A lot of women don't feel safe in dating and that perpetrators of dating violence are not held accountable in apps (somewhat reflective of life). Many people are deciding to be celibate in response to that, rather than being used and abused. Additionally, it is a response to the diminishing reproductive rights in many states in the U.S. Since there is less access to preventive measures and abortions, sometimes the only way to prevent pregnancy is now celibacy. It is kind of the, they have f*cked around with reproductive rights, now they're about to find out. Woman are trying to take back control of their bodies. And this doesn't begin to even touch on the people who are celibate due to past trauma, or others who are asexual and felt this making light of celibacy mocked who they are/their experiences. I am just trying to summarize, this issue is by far more detailed and complicated than I can put in a couple paragraphs, so anyone can feel free to chime in on their experiences or perspectives on this. I just know I used Bumble in the past because I had thought it would be safer because it was initiated by women. I was someone who was celibate at the time not totally by desire but necessity, as I had past trauma & while I had gotten thru the PTSD, I needed to feel safe in order to maybe pursue more and go slow. With current app dating, there is an insane amount of pressure to have sex immediately from many guys, so the hope was Bumble would be different. I think a lot of people find the apology ingenuine, as while they apologize for the campaign, they don't acknowledge how much dating violence happens over apps, and didn't propose any safety measures to help. I figured since this was in discussion on the podcast today, I might add some context with some of the elements at play. My(28m) new gf(23f) have been dating for just over a month now. She often posts Snapchat stories of selfies and the pictures are very rarely provocative at all and are just cute mirror selfies or pictures of herself on the beach. We usually lay down in bed together at night and throw on a movie and she likes to occasionally scroll through her phone. I happen to glance over at times just out of curiosity and noticed some of the responses she gets to her pictures. Some examples are dudes saying "hot", "sexy" or "you could get it". She claims she never responds to them and I believe her, but it sort of bothers me that she doesn't do anything about it neither. I asked her why she even bothers keeping those people on her Snapchat, and why not respond to them saying you have a boyfriend or anything to deter them from saying weird shit. She says she doesn't like deleting them because some of them are her friends, which alright I get it but why are your friends being creepy like that? And coming back to the point where I ask her to tell them she has a man, she says she doesn't like telling random people about her life. I got a little bit upset and maybe overreacted a bit. Im a bit of an over thinker and I get in my head and my minds trying to convince me that maybe she enjoys the compliments? I tell her everyday how gorgeous she is and how lucky I am to have met her, but I understand it can be different coming from just one person. We had a shitty argument about it and I wasn't sure if I was asking for too much.

This happened a while ago, but I’d love y’all’s feedback. I (18m) and my girlfriend (20f) went to visit a friend of ours from HS. Penny (22f) went to school a few states away in their capital and was staying for a summer term. She had a break before it began, no money to go anywhere, no friends left in town and wanted us to drive out to keep her company. We saved up some money, borrowed a car and drove 10 1/2 hours to get there. She was all excited to see us and said that she was taking us to a show that night at a club for driving all the way there. She said that we’d go dancing, so we brought one casual outfit to dance in, but she said it’d be fine for going to a show. She then told us that she couldn’t afford to feed us at all, so we were going to her grocery store to buy our food. She took us to the fanciest and most expensive food store that I have ever been in, even to this day. We got what we could afford and returned home kinda worn out by then, but she insisted we had to go to this show to that night. So she took us- and made us pay for the tickets ourselves. Apparently she thought that taking someone to a show was reserving tickets for them to pay for and Physically Taking Them To The Show. We were quite tired by the time the show ended kind of late that night and we had fun, but looked forward to bed. When we finally got home, she pulled out a big bottle of rum and magazines that she’d bought at the store and told us that we were going to make an anonymous threat letter to our old boss at a big box store we’d all worked at. She poured herself a drink and got to work looking for letters as we tried to stay awake. We weren’t offered any rum, or even water to drink while she got drunk over the TWO HOURS she spent threatening old Mr Carter. When she was finally done, Penny announced that we were all going to bed- and that her house rules were that me and my girlfriend were forbidden from having sex in her home. She went on and said she’d be able to hear it, that somehow she would be able to tell and that wasn’t something that grownups did - she simply wouldn’t stand for it and she would throw us out right away. With that she marched off to bed. We were both pretty shocked and I was just mad, not because we couldn’t sleep together but because she was ordering us around and would throw us out in the middle of the night. Mostly we were both offended because we weren’t the kind of people who would be tacky enough to obviously and intentionally have sex in a small apartment when we weren’t by ourselves.
Well, the rest of the time we had fun, believe it or not. I guess I’d forgotten how bossy Penny was, and Sam (my gf) was always deferential to her and she fell back in to that pretty fast, although it wasn’t sitting too well with her anymore and I was glad about that. This brings us to the end of the trip and our falling out: Sam and I were running out of money. We’d gone to a bunch of places, eating and drinking and shopping and had been pretty open and loud about our shrinking bankroll. We had enough for the gas to go home and an emergency fund which we weren’t going to use because we were responsible and realistic with money. Beyond that we had maybe $$25 for food or whatever on our way home. So it came as a shock when Sam came and told me on our last morning there that we were going out to dinner that night. Penny had told Sam that it was was customary for guests to treat their hosts for all their hospitality and either give them an expensive gift to complement their decor or treat them to a nice meal. Since she was renting, we were taking her out- and she had made the reservation weeks ago. I had never heard of this, but since my parents had no friends and hers didn’t entertain much, we honestly couldn’t say. I resented it from the beginning, because probably more than once a day, Penny had said this this smartass comment about how we should be really happy/thankful about her letting us stay at her place for free instead of having to pay for a hotel. Only, she wasn’t kidding, she meant it. As dinner approached, we realized that we’d have to blow all our money and probably a fair chunk of the emergency fund as well. We were waiting in our club clothes when Penny came out dressed up fancier than I had ever seen her except for senior prom. We both were immediately alarmed and wanted to know exactly where we were going. She said that it was just really the only nice place in town that the kids went to for nice dates, not that it was fancy. Sam asked about her dress and Penny said she just felt like looking nice for a change. Since she was a card carrying tomboy, Sam was sure we were under dressed. We both worked at upscale department stores and had killer wardrobes, so her not telling us that we were going to need a dress outfit was bullshit. On the way, Penny got more and more excited on the way there, telling us about how her friends had all been there and that she hadn’t because she couldn’t afford it. Alarm bells were now ringing in my ears and I was just about to say we shouldn’t go when she said that we’d arrived. She darted into the fanciest French restaurant in that state’s capital! Sam and I looked like Walmart wannabes while Penny flounced up and asked for her reservation. The walls were hung with silk, the chairs were gold leafed, and the prices were . . . I don’t know how to explain it. The menu looked normal on the left side that listed/described the extravagant food, but when I looked at what everything cost? It looked like a price list for diamond rings. Sam and I were stared at each other and quietly began discussing our options. I wanted to leave, just tell Penny that we couldn’t afford it either and that we’d take her somewhere else. Sam would not have that- she said that we’d be fine, spend the emergency money and move on. Penny had to have heard us saying all this, she had put down her menu and was looking at us when we looked up. Sam asked her what she was going to have, since we had realized that our options were based off of what whatever was leftover from her dinner. Surf and turf she said with a smile. The most expensive thing on the menu. Sam insisted that Penny get what she wanted for her dream meal; I insisted that Sam eat a meal, so she got the cheapest sandwich they had. I had a small side salad, Literally the cheapest thing they had. We had just enough for the bill and a miserable tip, which I still feel bad about.
I have probably never been so mad about a person doing something that they knew was wrong and did it anyway because they knew that they would get away with. I was done. That was it for me and Penny. I’m not able to hide my feelings about people who behave like this and she knew that I was angry. She felt that she had every right to be taken out to dinner and get whatever she wanted (I forgot to add that she purposely got the most expensive meal that was meant for 2 so she’d have food for days) and that I was being a bad guest for making her feel uncomfortable about it. She got all snarky about it towards me afterwards- like I cared- but it made trouble for Sam. It also probably made me and Sam end our 4 year relationship, too, or at least it started it. Which was a shame, really, but maybe for the best.
I still think that since she didn’t do anything for us- LITERALLY NOTHING- that we didn’t owe her shit. If she had fed us, at least once, given us something to drink, besides tap water, paid for our show tix, bought us drinks when we were out, Anything besides letting us sleep on her floor, which she kept making such a big deal about- saving us the price of a hotel. Well, we wouldn’t have needed a hotel if she hadn’t been so lonely and begged us to drive 21 hours and spend tons of money to amuse her. Yes we enjoyed it, but we would have had fun by ourselves at home with our friends, without repercussions for borrowing a car and would have had all that money to spend on things at home.

I started installing some of the necessary web dev apps and installed Homebrew (first time) and it mentioned that MacOS Big Sur is not supported anymore and that it may work fine but probably not great. I’m planning a trip to Italy in July of 2025 with my wife. We’re thinking of flying into Rome around the 2nd-3rd of July. The itinerary isn’t set in stone at all, and have not bought plane tickets or air hotels yet. A close outline of what we are thinking goes somewhat like this.
I was going to get the Eurail pass, that is a super good deal and seems to be able to get you most everywhere in Italy.
Arrive in Rome July 3rd, Spend about 4-5 nights.
Take the fast train to Venice, Spend also about 4 nights
Take the train to Portofino, which I originally was super stoked about, but from what I’ve read, it sounds like it is over run and too busy, and the beaches aren’t as awesome as they make it out to be. We were planning on spending the most time there, like 6-7 nights, but now I would like to know if anyone has advice on a different beach town that would be good for snorkel/ boat kinda stuff.
Then take the train to Florence, and then spend about 4-5 nights there, I really want to see Davinci boyhood home and some vineyard stuff, also Statue of David and good museums.
We were going to take the train back to Rome and fly out from there, the plane tickets seem a lot cheaper to fly in and out from the same place, and the train doesn’t take too long to get back from Florence.
This sub looks like people who have a lot of experience and I haven’t been there since I was like 13 so I have zero info.
I’ve been reading about the Lake Como/ Italy-Swiss border and the Bernina Express looks amazing. Im also open to the Milan area.
I would like to do anything that can be reached by train, just didn’t want to rent a car, but I would be open to renting if it isn’t a total pain. Is it more stressful to try to keep on the train schedule than to just rent?
Also, is it worth trying to switch the date to somewhere later in the year? Is July the busiest time of year for tourism in Italy? I would be open to going sometime in August-September if it means that we would avoid the crowds to a good degree.
Its our late honeymoon, any places that are on the romantic/slower side where we can just chill would be appreciated. Any museums or sightseeing that aren’t as busy would be awesome. Any cities that you would like to recommend would be appreciated.

To all my exception pickers, do yall have any trouble with vendors being rude? All of our vendors are sweet like candy and extremely helpful with finding their items, except for one. They’re with a very popular brand and they HATEEEE if we touch their pallets even if they aren’t here by the time the exception is due, there was even a time they told me “and if it’s back there don’t touch it bc blah blah blah” I stopped listening after I peeped she had an attitude. I asked the grocery tl if us touching it affects anything on their end and he said no bc I’d understand the frustration if it did. I’m just doing my job as they tell me to no need for the hostilities😒

- What apple and/or 3rd party software is considered "need-to-have" or highly beneficial these days?
- What settings will allow this machine to be snappy and quick still without sacrificing too much functionality?

My question here:
My wife has been working for a major UK bank in the financial crime division of their Midlands, England office. She started on Oct 23, around seven months to date, and has been struggling. She has around 11 years of experience in Law and Policing.
When she started, she had issues with the laptop they gave her. They configured it for the wrong department, and she did not have access to the relevant systems for three months to perform her training or job. Thus, she could not get training as the others who joined at the same time as she did. Whenever she notified her manager that she could not access the systems she needed, they did not believe my wife, as the laptop was in working order.
They gave her the first piece of work without formal training, and when she asked questions to the manager or the person from the team acting as her buddy trainer, they would say she should know this or not give her the answer. The questions she asked were about what requirements or guidelines dictated why something should be filled into the forms and why she shouldn't be adding what she thought would be relevant information into the system. When she brought up that the training was not adequate for her manager, they just answered that her "buddy trainer has x number of years and knows her stuff". This caused a regression in her performance. Instead of helping, her manager would tell her that she would be fired if she did not improve her performance. Even though most of her performance is linked to bad training, harassment, and not understanding, she is a mother of 2 children under the age of 3 years.
Further exacerbating this, when she joined the Director of the department in a meeting, he asked if anyone had information they would like to bring into the department. My wife put her hand up and gave some information. The Director set up a meeting, and in that meeting, instead of listening to her on what she did for financial crime in her previous employer and how that can be transferred, he demeaned her by saying, "don't come with ideas if you don't know our processes. We hired you to do the checks not to give Ideas". What would become her buddy trainer in that meeting was there, and she and the director did not dismiss my wife. They just started talking about their things and ignored my wife.
In the case that she was told she was performing poorly, she noticed that the person was a repeat, where they just changed their address and could get a new bank account, even though they were exited previously on criminal associations of funnelling billions of pounds. She brought this up with the buddy trainer and manager, but they dismissed her when she said that when someone opens an account, they should be checked if they were previously exited, not when their dealings are being flagged after opening an account. Both her buddy trainer and the manager said that she was stupid and that it would add more work. She later discovered that both her buddy trainer and the manager took this idea to create their department for the company's board.
My wife also noticed that the others who joined had already done this job before in other banks or other departments. One individual you can see was favoured by the buddy trainer as they were of the same race and married to a white person as the buddy trainer. That buddy trainer would practically give the easiest work to her and would generally do the job to get that individual in. But my wife was always given the hardest of cases which would require her to work outside of work hours due to having 20 times the number of people to look into or were cases that needed external input which increased time but her manager and buddy trainer stated it should be done within 1 week even though these cases required 6 weeks due to the cross-communication.
In March, she contacted the Union about the harassment that was happening, and she opened a grievance on what she feels is harassment and bullying. She did not submit the grievance as she was told to give it a second chance, as they changed her buddy trainer. She was showing improvements but was not meeting what, I would say, was an unobtainable deadline. They put her on an informal performance review to prevent the union from being involved for 14 working days. Unfortunately, our children got sick for one of those weeks, and then I caught the bug three days later, and we both had to take sick leave from work. when she returned, her manager stated that because her performance did not improve, they would not give her back that week missed, and she had to reach the goals given for those two weeks within one week. She will not be hired by any company that needs to adhere to the regulatory environment.
At this time, another individual who started with my wife was on another team in the same department run by this Director. They were removed from the team due to performance. Strangely enough, this person is of the same race as my wife.
Due to this, she did contact the Acas. But as they are not of the legal background, they could not help as she has less than two years of employment. If she does allow the letter to come onto her record, she only has the option to wait for a formal job offer to be rejected due to what I feel is an unfair dismissal.
Another weird thing that happened today is that the department's people partner published that anyone under 12 months old can now start applying to other roles within the department if their manager approves. When my wife asked her manager if, instead of her resigning or being fired she support my wife in finding a more suitable role within the organisation, the manager said sorry that this waiver does not apply to my wife.

My wife has been working for a major UK bank in the financial crime division of their Midlands, England office. She started on Oct 23, around seven months to date, and has been struggling. She has around 11 years of experience in Law and Policing.
When she started, she had issues with the laptop they gave her. They configured it for the wrong department, and she did not have access to the relevant systems for three months to perform her training or job. Thus, she could not get training as the others who joined at the same time as she did. Whenever she notified her manager that she could not access the systems she needed, they did not believe my wife, as the laptop was in working order.
They gave her the first piece of work without formal training, and when she asked questions to the manager or the person from the team acting as her buddy trainer, they would say she should know this or not give her the answer. The questions she asked were about what requirements or guidelines dictated why something should be filled into the forms and why she shouldn't be adding what she thought would be relevant information into the system. When she brought up that the training was not adequate for her manager, they just answered that her "buddy trainer has x number of years and knows her stuff". This caused a regression in her performance. Instead of helping, her manager would tell her that she would be fired if she did not improve her performance. Even though most of her performance is linked to bad training, harassment, and not understanding, she is a mother of 2 children under the age of 3 years.
Further exacerbating this, when she joined the Director of the department in a meeting, he asked if anyone had information they would like to bring into the department. My wife put her hand up and gave some information. The Director set up a meeting, and in that meeting, instead of listening to her on what she did for financial crime in her previous employer and how that can be transferred, he demeaned her by saying, "don't come with ideas if you don't know our processes. We hired you to do the checks not to give Ideas". What would become her buddy trainer in that meeting was there, and she and the director did not dismiss my wife. They just started talking about their things and ignored my wife.
In the case that she was told she was performing poorly, she noticed that the person was a repeat, where they just changed their address and could get a new bank account, even though they were exited previously on criminal associations of funnelling billions of pounds. She brought this up with the buddy trainer and manager, but they dismissed her when she said that when someone opens an account, they should be checked if they were previously exited, not when their dealings are being flagged after opening an account. Both her buddy trainer and the manager said that she was stupid and that it would add more work. She later discovered that both her buddy trainer and the manager took this idea to create their department for the company's board.
My wife also noticed that the others who joined had already done this job before in other banks or other departments. One individual you can see was favoured by the buddy trainer as they were of the same race and married to a white person as the buddy trainer. That buddy trainer would practically give the easiest work to her and would generally do the job to get that individual in. But my wife was always given the hardest of cases which would require her to work outside of work hours due to having 20 times the number of people to look into or were cases that needed external input which increased time but her manager and buddy trainer stated it should be done within 1 week even though these cases required 6 weeks due to the cross-communication.
In March, she contacted the Union about the harassment that was happening, and she opened a grievance on what she feels is harassment and bullying. She did not submit the grievance as she was told to give it a second chance, as they changed her buddy trainer. She was showing improvements but was not meeting what, I would say, was an unobtainable deadline. They put her on an informal performance review to prevent the union from being involved for 14 working days. Unfortunately, our children got sick for one of those weeks, and then I caught the bug three days later, and we both had to take sick leave from work. when she returned, her manager stated that because her performance did not improve, they would not give her back that week missed, and she had to reach the goals given for those two weeks within one week.
