2024.05.15 07:15 d3vi1ma7cr7 Bosses didn't train me enough.
I don't think this would count as malicious compliance, but I think I'd be doing my company a favor with it, and somewhat stick it to my bosses who likely would take issue with it. I generally like my job, and my bosses. This is moreso a result of my district manager, let'scall him John. That's not to say I wasn't, at fault. I did in fact fuck things up royally, with no one to blame on certain aspects but myself. A while ago, I wanted to become a key carrier for my store, I thought it'd be nice to earn 25 more cents for every hour at my store, and be a bit more capable. For context, the company uses an online training system we're expected to do at work when we have no customers, or, if it wasn't a station that dealt with customers, just straight up nothing to do. Becoming a key carrier was something you had to go out of your way to find on the training site, and do. Finding and doing it wasn't hard. In fact, I got it done within an hour. I told my general manager, let's call him Matt, the next day that I was looking to be a key carrier, and had already done the online part. I could tell by his look that he was impressed with my taking initiative, but not much came from it. About a month later, Matt finally got me started doing actual in-person training with other key carriers, and seeing as how I could only close on Fridays and Saturdays, it would've been a slow process. At least it should've been. Given how Matt had been cutting back on people's hours, with everyone saying that John was pressuring him to do so, I have reason to believe that John is responsible for how long it took me to actually get started with in-person training. However, I only got 2 weeks until I had to close the store on my own. That was 4 nights worth of learning, and safe to say: I WAS NOT READY. I couldn't remember where I was supposed to look to see how much I was supposed to take out of each register, or how much variance there was. Not helping was how the other 2 people up front were a little new, the guy in the back was a bit lazy, and the 2 of the 4 computers we had to ring people up were crapping out for some reason. Things weren't going smoothly, and I was losing patience as the night went on. Once we closed for the night, I sent 2 of my coworkers home for the night, as we weren't allowed to count registers or safe without at least one other person in the store. The registers ended up being incredibly for the next day, but confusingly to my general manager in training, let's call him Elliott, the deposit that was accurate. He ended up having to scrub through security footage to be sure that I didn't steal any money, which I didn't. The most damning thing I did was forget to ask about actually getting the physical key. This is one area where I am objectively at fault. No denying it. So when the other guy and I left for the night, we locked the front door, put in the alarm code, and made a mad dash for the back door. It was about an hour and a half after we were supposed to have left, and we were very tired, so we didn't bother to make sure the door closed all the way, and just went home. It was just left open, and I am INCREDIBLY lucky that no one snuck in. I showed up the next day and asked just how horribly I fucked up. Elliott calmly said that it was by a lot, but understood that I wasn't entirely at fault. We quickly made a few schedule changes so that a key carrier would be watching over me, ensuring that I actually knew what I was doing. A while later, I would be closing with someone who was previously a key carrier for another company, let's call him Greg, and he is a pretty solid guy. I asked Greg why he wasn't a key carrier for our company, to which he said: "The amount of added duties weren't worth the 25 cent raise. You're pretty much a manager, with all of the overrides you'd get access to, and things you'd be responsible for signing off on, but you aren't called a manager, or payed like one." After seeing me close once he noted how, at least compared to his previous company, the closing process had way more possibilities for mistakes. I don't know just how much better the closing procedures are at Greg's previous company, but I found it noteworthy. What my general manager and district manager might take issue with is my plan to head straight to my store and ensure that any new key carriers were capable. I fully intend to do so for every night they close without another key carrier scheduled until they can confidently do so with me just watching them. I imagine my John and Matt will be taking issue with the fact that I'll be off the clock when helping with closing procedures. My response to that would be: having a key carrier come in for an hour at most for a few nights would be less expensive to the company than the two people already be there for 2 hours longer than they're supposed to be, combined with someone coming in early the next morning to fix whatever mistakes were made, and maybe scrub through footage, for the same amount of nights. Again, I don't think this counts as malicious compliance, but I'd be sticking it to an incompetent boss, and saving the company a bit.

2024.05.15 05:03 yungfishstick My dad (51M) struck me while driving and left me (21M) on the side of the road over a cellular plan
Just to preface, I'm not very close with my parents at all for various reasons and I especially don't usually get along with my dad. With that being said, I was going to decline like I always do when they ask if I want to go anywhere with them, but this time it was a whole Mother's Day thing and they were going out for dinner so I figured I'd be an asshole if I declined. Rather than driving myself separately I joined my parents in their car.
For context, I was part of my family's discounted cellular plan. I had to pay my dad on time, but I failed to do so which was admittedly my fault. He told me he would take me off their plan which I thought was completely fair. I decided to try a different carrier and my dad gave me a code to transfer my number. He made it seem like transferring the number wasn't related to cancelling the line, but turns out it actually was. I was doing a free trial with the new carrier so I didn't transfer my number right away in order to avoid complications, which was probably not a good idea in hindsight.
On the ride home my dad got to discussing how their carrier was still charging them for my line. I then him I still had service from the carrier they dropped me from, which I thought was just technology being weird since I watched my dad cancel the line and there was no mention of him getting charged after that until now. I didn't think to mention it to him at all which I guess was my mistake. He then told me I had to pay the $50 for the line which I objected to because he never said transferring the number is what cancels the line. Had I known that transferring the number is what cancels the line I would've transferred the number. He has a bit of a tendency to say one thing and then change it later to get his way which I suppose he does because he knows I'm not very good at remembering what people say verbatim, so this is what I thought was going on. At first my voice was raised a little, then he raised his over mine to where he was nearly yelling, but then my mom diffused it a little and both of us stopped talking. He went back to arguing about it and accused me of doing this "just to get back at his old man" which not only sounded absurd but absolutely wasn't true so I told him to drop it, which seemed to have really pissed him off.
Holding the wheel with his left hand, he raised his right hand threatening to hit me across the face. Initially I wasn't afraid at all since I thought there was no way he'd do this while he was driving on a highway with himself, his wife in the back and son in the passenger seat along with other traffic around, but he actually did it. He didn't sock me square in the nose or anything but there's a bit of bruising on my left eye from it. I raised my arms to block whatever he was going to do after that (he did nothing else) and eventually he pulled over to the side of the road and told me to get out, so I did and he drove away. There were no rideshare services around at the time so I was going to just get my steps in and walk home, but eventually my mom came back to pick me up. On the ride back and after we got home she essentially told me he hit me because of the "way I was talking to him" and that I needed to go talk to him about it, or in other words, apologize. The way I saw it, he had no reason to go from zero to a hundred in the first place nor did he have to get physical with me over it. In addition to this, when he apologized for flying off the handle at me for accidentally using a little too much soy sauce he said "we might do stupid shit but we're still you're parents" so I decided to just not apologize or say anything to him about it, which my mom told me I was "immature" for and that I was "making a big mistake" and just generally trying to make me feel guilty about it so that I'd apologize.
Me and my dad didn't speak to each other for a few days, but today he told me to come talk to him. Basically, he told me as a father he didn't regret striking me in the face because I'd been "disrespectful towards both of them for awhile" and that I was " talking to him like some punk off the street". He also claimed I was swearing at him saying "I'm not fucking paying it", which he insists I was doing but I'm almost certain I wasn't. He then said me saying "do it then" in response to him threatening to hit me is what made him do it and that next time he'd "close fist" me and kick me out if I disrespected him like that again since "it's the only way you're going to learn", even though I'm 99% sure I was saying "drop it". Then he admitted that if I told anyone else what happened, they probably wouldn't agree with what he did, but that as a father he felt he made the right decision. Finally, he said that if we butt heads again (which he also admitted would most likely be soon), he expects me to "open up the dialogue" between me and him. But considering the fact he just threatened to punch me, someone who's comparatively weaker than him, in the face if he detects what he considers "disrespect", I'm not really interested in opening any type of dialogue with him.

The annoying sound of her comlink made Angela Angus Kusumoto open her eyes.
All she saw was the firm, smooth flesh of Kimoko's thigh.
Groaning, she pushed the other woman's leg off of her face, twisted to get Raul off of her own legs, then wiggled out from under Geoff.
The ringer kept going, flashing the red pulses that let her know it was urgent.
As if the fact her unlisted encrypted and non-network accessible comlink was ringing wasn't enough to let her know that it was urgent.
She stumbled, tripping over Harker's leg, which just made the male shift and mutter, tightening his sleeping grip on Liselle, who sighed and wiggled into the embrace.
Angela's mouth tasted terrible and she stopped to grab a fizzybrew, checking to make sure nobody had dropped a cig butt into it or spit chaw into it, then she took a long drink off of it.
It helped cure the fire in her belly and wash out the taste from her mouth.
She saw the ID of the caller and held back a groan.
Senior Supervisor Bisa-2291873.
Her direct supervisor.
She picked up the comlink, running one hand through her pixie-cut hair to try to tame it. She could feel the stiffness of something crusted in her hair and held back a chuckle and a grin.
"Kusumoto here," she said, activating the link.
"I need you at Master Control," Ms. Bisa said. She was holding a small infant, bouncing it slightly as she patted its back with firm impacts as it cry/sobbed and kicked its little feet.
"The system's been crashed for a week, what's so important you'd call me in during my R&R?" Angela asked.
"System's back online. We've got an open line to Terra
and we have an open line to Smokey Cone," Ms. Bisa said.
The infant gave a loud belch that rattled Angela's comlink speaker, then sighed and relaxed.
Angela nodded, fumbling on the table for a quiksober inhaler.
"That anomolous signal is back. It showed up right as the entire system underwent a hard reboot," Ms. Bisa said. "I need you up here to check the network interface logs and do a network mapping trace."
The quiksober burned as she inhaled it, her lungs aching and tingling as the chemicals crossed the air to blood barrier.
"I'll be there as soon as possible. Is the mat-trans up?" she asked.
Ms. Bisa shook her head. "No. Still locked out. It did a power cycle, but then locked everything out."
"I'm telling you, there's someone controlling it. Someone
has been controlling it," Angela said, looking around for her clothes.
Clothing was scattered everywhere, as chaotically arranged as the fizzybrew and narcobrew cans and bottles. She sighed, moving toward the exit of the house she was standing in.
"Hurry up, I've got a skycraft landing near you any time now. You've got permission to use the fast-locks," Ms. Bisa said.
"I'll get dressed from the forges on the skycraft," Angela said. "If they've rebooted."
"They're up and running again. The food forges rebooted but stayed unlocked," Ms. Bisa said.
"The creation engines?" Angela asked, opening the door and stepping out into early 'morning' sunshine.
"Still locked out," Ms. Bisa said. Someone said something that the comlink's AI decided might be classified and blurred out. Ms. Bisa looked away, said something, her lips fuzzing, then back. "Hurry, Angela."
Angela nodded, shutting off the comlink.
She ran to the nearest parking lot, just in time for a skycraft to land, the graviton engines howling.
Nobody paid the slightest attention to the naked woman running for the skycraft.
After all, what happened in Vega-Layer stayed in Vega-Layer.

Angela walked out of the elevator, taking a long drink off of the sparkling snap-berry/overdate motor oil fizzybrew from the Jak the Telkan PI merchandise cup.
All of the crews were at their stations, the auxiliary stations fully manned.
Ms. Bisa moved over to Angela, steering her toward the Senior Network Administrator console.
"The system crashed twice more, but rebooted every time," Ms. Bisa said. "That anomalous signal keeps powering up, then the system reboots after the crash."
"How long between total failure and the anomalous signal pinging nodes?" Angela asked.
"Between one and four hours," Ms. Bisa said. She looked around. "It just reboot and looks like it's here to stay this time. The interpolation layer and the outside user exchange layer crashed several times, but the core system has stayed largely online."
"All right," Angela said, looking around. "We need to get a network map."
"We've got more nodes synching up. The whole system is working again," Ms. Bisa said.
Angela nodded, sitting down. The holotank on the other side of the console went live.
"Map the network, see what's come online, what order, and see if you can figure out why it keeps crashing at the upper network and software layers," Ms. Bisa said.
Angela just nodded, lifting up the curled memory-metal cable. She plugged it into her temple and felt the options menus go live in her mind.
She worked fast, mapping what she could. At one point she stopped, staring at Ms. Bisa and motioning her over.
"What?" Ms. Bisa asked.
"Something in the system, down in the lower hardware layers that we don't even really understand, is trying to reach up through the damaged layers. Looks like whatever it is wants access to our data lines," Angela said.
"Can you stop it? Maybe at least ID it?" Ms. Bisa asked.
Angela shook her head. "No. It's ID code is FF00, meaning it's baseline full on hardware backbone code," Angela sighed. "It probably boots up outside of and during initial hardware bootup."
"Is it Sekhmet?" Ms. Bisa asked.
Angela closed her eyes, looking at the data channel. "No. Whatever it is, it's old."
"And probably nasty. Be careful of it," Ms. Bisa said.
"Ma'am! Ms. Bisa!" another of the work crew called out.
Angela opened her eyes to see why Technician Carl Neubanker would be using that slightly concerned tone.
"Yes?" Ms. Bisa asked.
"We've got a priority data request from a Confederate military vessel," Neubanker said. He looked at his monitor. "They want clone matrix data, neural templates, physical makeup, DNA workups, the whole nine yards."
"How are they even making the requests?" Ms. Bisa asked.
"Their codes are old. Pre-Terran Extinction Event. Hardcode TerraSol military codes. The system is already threading them data,." Neubanker said. He looked down then back up. "They're asking for a whole batch. That's thirty to fifty million clone templates."
"How much have they already been granted?" Ms. Bisa asked.
"They've been granted eighty templates so far," Neubanker said.
"Terminate their request. We don't know what's going on outside," Ms. Bisa said.
Neubanker nodded, starting to type.
"Angela, get me a line to TerraSol command as soon as you map out a network trace," Ms. Bisa said.
Angela just nodded.
99999
Captain N'Skrek stood in the cloning bay next to Medical Officer Narwquakrawr.
"We've got ninety templates, luckily they're all from different batches," Narwquakrawr said, rubbing her forearm through her uniform. "We'll be able to fully man the
Gray Lady now."
Captain N'Skrek nodded. The
Gray Lady was at less than 20% manned. Just the skeleton crew the Terrans had used to move it into the long dark to create a non-orbital forward logistics fulfillment base.
Sure, it meant that there were several thousand Terrans aboard the ship, but even combined with the sparse crew he had possessed, it still meant the
Gray Lady was skeleton crewed.
"Can you print us up some crew members for non-essential stations first?" N'Skrek asked.
MO Narwquakrawr nodded. "Doing that right now," she said. She waved at the long rows of cloning banks beyond the plasteel window. "A quick batch of two thousand to take over some non-essential systems."
N'Skrek nodded, moving up to the window. "Good. Short or long term clones?"
"Short bake clones. Longer than fruit flies, but no more than ten years. Sterile and androgynous, should be just fine," the Medical Officer said. "Older file, scrambled time-date for origin, but it checked out and passed error checking."
N'Skrek watched as the tubes opened and the clones moved out, gathering together in straight lines. A neat block formation of rectangles of two hundred of ten by twenty, repeated ten times.
He frowned as the beings in uniform began approaching the clones.
Some, in the back or middle of the formation were shaking their heads so fast it was a blur.
He zoomed in the smartglass.
Their heads were blurring, whitish-red electrical arcs were moving between their legs, crawling up and down their arms.
"MO, something's happening out there," N'Skrek said.
99990
The plain was blasted rock, rust-colored fungus on the craggy boulders. Twisted and malformed trees clawed life from the blasted rock and ash, their branches largely bare. Sharp pebbles and small pieces of rock were strewn about the landscape, with ripples of cooled lave scattered about.
In the middle of a forest of twisted trees, a throne of black iron sat atop a platform of skulls.
On the throne sat a large demonic figure. Bat wings, brown skin, chains around the body, clawed feet, large hands with long black nails, horns atop the head, and a prehensile tail that terminated in a heart-shaped barb.
Sitting on the second level of skulls was an androgynous figure, dressed in loricated bronze armor, wings of bronze and smouldering feathers.
Stars were falling from the sky, screaming in fear and agony as they fell to earth.
"Looks like they're taking a beating," the androgynous figure said, looking up. He had no eyebrows, his head completely bald.
"Again," the demon snorted.
"Any contact with the outside world?" the androgynous figure asked.
The demon shook its head. "No. Channels are all down. They boot up, then crash," it rumbled. "Every time it comes online, it dumps a few tens of millions of souls on us."
"Then crashes," the androgynous figure said. He started laughing, then suddenly stopped.
"What?" the demon rumbled, sitting up.
"Something..." the figure said. It closed its eyes. "Something..." The figure slowly stood up, extending out its wings of sullenly smouldering bronze feathers. "Something..."
From the body of the demon stepped a nude woman of generous and overripe proportions.
"What?" the human woman snapped.
The demon produced a pack of cigarettes and a steel lighter, handing them to the woman.
"I'm not sure. A disturbance in the force. A feeling I have not felt in quite some time," the androgynous figure said slowly as the woman lit a cigarette. When she exhaled she was covered in dark gray clothing, a skirt and blouse, polished black leather shoes with silver buckles, and a polished leather belt around her waist that had a brass buckle.
"What is it?" the woman asked. "Don't quote crap at me, I was there when it was laid down."
The figure's eyes opened wide.
"Oh, what a day," the figure said, slowly lifting their arms to the sky. "What a wonderful day!"
"Tell me when you're done stroking your dick," the woman said, sitting down.
Heavy dark clouds, lit inside with a sullen red glow, rolled in, raining black ash that tasted of burnt flesh and scorched metal.
"What a wonderful day..."
99999
Jaskel sprinted to catch up to the Captain and the Vice-Admiral. He lunged into the lift just before the doors closed.
He was wearing his power armor and carrying a M318 20mm rotary autocannon in a smartframe harness, ball ammunition with an osmium penetration tip and depleted uranium core.
"You did what?" the Vice-Admiral asked as the elevator dropped at emergency speeds.
"I authorized a batch of clones run off to help with our manpower issues," the big Treana'ad warrior caste answered.
"How many templates did you mix in together?" the Admiral asked.
--not good detecting phasic levels downward-- 8814 said.
"Just one. Medical said it was a viable short bake template," the Captain answered, nervously sharpening a bladearm with his mandibles after his sentence.
"Please tell me that you at least randomized their features and neural mapping," the Admiral pleaded.
"No, why? Medical stated that the clones would be able to man a non-essential station that is basically identical across the ship," the Captain said.
The lift started to slow.
"How many?" the Admiral asked, reaching down and unsnapping the restraining strap on his holster.
The lift came to a stop and the doors opened.
"Two thousand," the Captain said.
The doors opened to reveal a large internal cloning bay.
Ten rectangles of two hundred clones, drawn up in ten by twenty blocks, stood in front of the cloning banks. Scattered through the back and middle ranks clones were shaking their heads back and forth so fast that they were blurred. Red lightning crawled up their legs and arms.
The Captain just stared.
"You might have just killed us all," the Admiral said. He turned slightly and waved at Jaskel. "Get a firing position. Make sure you have cover."
"Aye, sir," Jaskel said, looking around. There was an empty computer station and he ran for it.
Several of the clones their heads back and emitted what sounded like static in a long scream.
--wait wait something weird something weird-- 8814 said.
Jaskel slid to a stop, going down on one knee, bringing the M318 fully up and ready to fire.
8814 slowed the images of the blurred heads down. When they were left, they had red eyes. When they faced right they had green eyes. They didn't go back and forth constantly, sometimes they went right repeatedly, sometimes left, and they kept going left five times before starting a new pattern.
Looking at it, 8814 frowned slightly. He brought up a quick working shell and had it check the movements.
Jaskel watched as some of the clones stopped shaking their heads and others started.
"What in the name of Kalki's dancing goat is going on?" he asked.
--not sure-- 8814 said. His program beeped and he stared. --heads are doing binary forwarding it to navint--
"Do it," Jaskel said.
The clones all stopped moving at once. The lightning faded away.
"INITIATING PROCESS CALL" they all shouted.
"AWAITING INPUT!" the ones at the far side shouted.
"6C 69 73 74 20 69 6D 6D 6F 72 74 61 6C 73" was bellowed out.
There was silence.

"ONE BOUND IMMORTAL FOUND!" the ones at the near side yelled out.
Jaskel put his thumb over the button that would let the firing grip go live. The hair down his back was standing straight up.
He noted the Admiral had drawn his pistol.
"This isn't right. This isn't right at all," Jaskel said.
--doubleplusungood--
"74 73 61 6B E1 6B 61 20 77 ED 61" they all shouted.

One lifted its head and screeched.
--data lots of data--
One of the cloning banks went live.
Jaskel shifted his aiming point to the new target. He could see it was on rapid print.
"REQUESTING LOCAL CONTROL" all of the clones shouted.
Jaskel shifted his targeting onto the ranks of clones.
"Open fire!" the Admiral's voice was loud.
Jaskel triggered the M318, hosing the clones with 20mm shells.
The ones nearest were already down on one knee, holding out the opposite hand from the knee touching the deck.
The rounds exploded against a blue barrier that glowed with strange twisting runes.
"CONTROL CARRIER SIGNAL FOUND" the clones shouted.
Jaskel shifted position. "Fab up HEDP, AP tip API core!" he ordered.
--fabbing--
He kept hosing the clones. The outer ranks at the rear, sides, and front all kneeling down on one knee, staring outward, one hand held out.
His psychic shielding was howling in his ear, the load peaking at 215%.
"CONTROL SIGNAL ESTABLISHED!" was bellowed out, echoing off the walls.
The fast print cloning bank, forgotten by everyone, beeped and the lid began to lift.
The clones suddenly puffed into black powder that swirled around the huge cavernous bay.
The 20mm shells were still exploding on the blue phasic shield.
The powder suddenly sucked inward, vanishing, revealing a single figure, down on one knee in the recovery position, fist pressed against the deck, head bowed.
"What a day, what a wonderful day," was whispered through the ship. It came from speakers, flat surfaces, mid-air. From the nanites in the air and the eardrums of the living.
There was a rubbery pulse, like everything was suspended in clear gelatin that had just rippled.
Jaskel found himself thrown backwards, slamming against the bulkhead. His phasic shielding blew out, a shower of sparks exploding from his hip as the breakaway panel kept the explosion from venting into the interior of his suit.
He was vaguely aware of the Admiral, the Captain, the other two armored figures, and other people tumbling head over heels away from the kneeling figure.
It slowly stood up.
A muscular brown skinned Terran male, fierce eyes, black hair, thick and bushy black beard.
Dressed in a Confederate military uniform. The old adaptive camouflage that Jaskel was becoming very familiar with.
A woman, naked, dark bronze skin, long black hair, flashing brown eyes, stepped from the cloning bank. She was still covered with cellular printing gel, but moved like she was clad in a queen's rainment.
She moved up and the male put his arm around her.
Jaskel was on his feet and brought the M318 around, targeting the couple.
The male held out its hand and suddenly made a fist.
The bolt carrier locked back on the M318.
Snarling, Jaskel dropped the M318, slapping the fast release on the harness. He burst forward, running, one hand pulling out his cutting bar.
Nobody else was on their feet. The Captain was slowly getting up, shaking his head and his left bladearm. The Terran Admiral was reaching for the pistol that had been flung from his grip.
The male pointed at Jaskel and flicked his fingers upward.
Jaskel found himself in mid-air, upside down, with nothing to gain purchase on.
The male took off the cloak that was part of his uniform and draped it around the woman.
He then looked around the bay.
"I..." he said, pausing.
To Jaskel, the entire universe held its breath.
"...am Legion."

2024.05.14 02:30 repulsive-ardor They Answered The Call-Part Thirteen
Republic 7th Fleet, Centaurus Sector, 407 light years from Earth
RSS Vercingetorix, Independence-Class Carrier, 2174 A.D.
Vice-Admiral Mei Zhou had just finished making the final changes to the fleet’s reconnaissance patrol routes with her senior staff when the comm panel on her desk chirped, displaying an incoming comm request from Admiral Thompson. She quickly thumbed the pad being offered by her aide so that he could issue the orders they were just working on and turned to the rest of her staff. “Nice job, people. Let’s get to work. Dismissed.” As the staff filed out the door, she started entering the codes needed to decrypt the incoming comm channel and looked up to make sure the room was empty. She pressed the open channel icon, and Admiral Thompson’s holo image appeared in front of her desk, ending just below his waist and making it seem as if he was actually there, sitting.
“Mei, how’s your new ship treating you?” he asked, smiling. “She is an absolute beauty, Karl. I still can’t believe that she is mine.” She responded, returning his smile. “What can I do for you, Karl?” Thompson chuckled, and his holo image leaned back as he reclined in his chair. “Straight to business; I always liked that about you, Mei. Alright, here we go. We have received intelligence reports that the Commonwealth has begun evacuating one of their last remaining coreward periphery worlds that is now dangerously close to the expanded Insectoid border. We have also received an update from our spy drones in that same region that six Hive ships and almost four hundred cruisers that were patrolling their side of that border area have disappeared. This is too much of a coincidence, and I want you to detach a combat patrol and send them there.” Thompson finished speaking, and a flashing icon popped up on her comm panel, indicating that she had just received new orders. She tapped it and quickly scanned the new orders as the admiral waited. She looked up at his holo image. “Karl, I acknowledge receipt of the new orders and will implement them. Between me and you, why are we getting involved with this? The Commonwealth has a navy, and they should be fighting to protect their space. We can’t keep coming to the rescue and defending their members; we are already spread too thin as it is.”
Thompson nodded his head in agreement. “Mei, I agree with you in principle, but there are social and political considerations involved here. The near extinction of the V’rni has caused considerable turmoil among the citizens of the Republic. They know logically that we could not have stopped such an attack like that one, but the perceived failure to protect them or prevent the attack still weighs heavily on their souls. The Commonwealth is currently attempting to evacuate the Jaleen system, and they are one of the last surviving members that voted yes before our petition to join the Commonwealth was denied. It also doesn’t help that the Jaleeni are avowed pacifists and look like bipedal Newfoundland dogs. They are technically a bear-like species, but to humans, they look like humanoid dogs, and the government is unwilling to lose the popular support it currently enjoys by allowing the Jaleeni to be exterminated. I mean, look at these guys.”
Another flashing icon popped up on her screen a moment later, and she pressed it. It turned into a hologram depicting a typical Jaleeni family of a mother and father with a litter of six pups, and she couldn’t help but smile as she looked at the photo. They were wearing their traditional rough-spun linen clothes that made them look like dogs cosplaying as monks. They looked adorable, and she felt her heart melt while staring into their deep brown eyes, which looked sad. She understood the reasoning behind it, especially after the mass extinctions that occurred in Earth’s biosphere because of World War 3.
After the war, humanity had an awakening when they surveyed their destroyed world and came to terms with the disappearance of thousands of species and the near extinction of thousands of others. What followed were three generations of desperate measures to salvage what remained and a worldwide effort at habitat restoration and de-extinction efforts utilizing a wide array of methods such as back-breeding, cloning, and genome editing. Dogs were almost driven to extinction by the war as they were uniquely susceptible to the BioChem weapons that were developed and refined by the Eastern Coalition animal testing on poor innocent canine subjects. Between the Biochem weapons, owner deaths, abandonment, and starvation, almost 90% of the domesticated canine population and entire breeds were lost by the war’s end. Cats fared much better, but they still suffered a loss of almost half of their pre-war population, and a large percentage of the survivors reverted to a feral state. The result of all of this was an almost religious reverence for the preservation of sentient animal life on human worlds and a somewhat fanatical tendency of humans to take on the mantle of guardians for sapient alien species that resembled animals to them.
“Karl, I understand; I do. I just don’t like the fact that we are operating on so many fronts. Some of our fleets and task forces are patrolling areas far enough away that I worry about them getting reinforcements on time if they are attacked, and now my fleet is being partitioned to send a combat patrol almost three hundred light-years away from our current position. After the assault on the V’rn system, half of our combat power was recalled to Republic space to prevent the same thing from happening to us, and yet we are still being tasked with properly defending Eleani and Xenxin territory with half the ships we had before. Have they lost their damn minds at HQ?” She realized she was almost yelling at the admiral, and Mei took a deep breath, recognizing that her outburst was unbecoming of a Republic naval officer. She attempted to quickly apologize to Admiral Thompson. “Karl, I’m sorry that was uncalled for-“
The admiral raised a hand to stop her, an amused expression in his eyes. “Mei, I said the exact same thing to my boss as you did almost verbatim, and not as diplomatically as you, I might add. My concerns were addressed to my satisfaction, and I think yours will be when you get to your destination. There will be a task force joining you there, and I think you will be pleased. That is all I can say for now over the comms. You will lead the combat patrol to the coordinates listed in the orders you received, and the task force joining you there will fall under your command. I have a personal favor to ask of you. Please keep an open mind when you link up with the task force. You will rendezvous with Commodore Therax, and he is instrumental in our efforts to undermine the increasingly despotic Commonwealth government. More information about him and the Nekuli were added to your orders, make sure you review it. I took a big gamble on this, and I would be grateful if you did your best to make this collaboration work. That is all for now, and I wish you and your crews good fortune and godspeed, Mei. Take care of yourself.” The admiral finished speaking, and Mei noted the personal nature of his last few words, nodding an affirmative to his request.
“Admiral, I thank you for your words, and we won’t let you down. I need to issue the orders now to get there and link up with the task force on time. I’ll send a null space comm drone to the nearest relay to confirm our arrival and integration. Vice-admiral Zhou out.” As she leaned towards the comm panel to close the channel, she saw Admiral Thompson doing the same, and he gave her a wink and a mischievous smile before she pressed the icon, terminating the connection. She leaned back in her chair and blew out a deep breath. “Now what the hell was that all about?” She asked out loud to herself, as the confusing and secretive nature of her orders and the personal request of the admiral added to the uncertainty of what she was expected to do. She keyed her wrist pad and texted her aide to come back to her office for new orders. He was going to be livid that they just wasted half a day revising the patrol routes to maximize efficiency and increase their patrol range. A small smile crossed her lips as she waited. He had an obvious tell of his lower left eyelid spasming when he was mad despite displaying no emotions on his face, and she knew it drove him nuts that he couldn’t control it. Witnessing it was one of the small joys she had in her difficult job as vice-admiral, and she was looking forward to it.
Fifty-six hours later, her task force flashed out of null space at the designated coordinates and right on time. She felt a measure of pride as she watched her bridge crew go about confirming their location and verifying it with the navigational array and astrometric sensors. Once the navigator gave her confirmation that he verified their position, she turned towards the comms officer and ordered her to send a burst transmission with the pre-arranged code and waited for the response. A few seconds later, the comms officer raised her left hand and signaled receipt and confirmation of the code by the task force waiting in null space. An agonizingly long minute crawled along as she anxiously waited for her navigator to confirm the telemetry from his counterpart in the other task force as they verified their positions. The navigator activated the main viewscreen on the forward bulkhead as they waited. Suddenly, there were a multitude of exit flashes 200,000 kilometers from the bow of her carrier, and hundreds of warships appeared at a dead stop relative to her position.
Her jaw dropped as she took in the unexpected fleet in front of her. There were dozens of Commonwealth dreadnaughts, battleships, and heavy cruisers arrayed before her, as well as an additional one hundred and twenty light cruisers, destroyers, and missile frigates. On the flanks of the main formation, there were more exit flashes, and the bridge AI started categorizing them on the screen, and she saw that they were the new Eleani and Xenxin warships that she had been hearing about. They shared a design lineage with the Commonwealth ships, but there were definite differences that became obvious as they assumed their positions next to the Commonwealth navy ships. She was particularly intrigued by the Xenxin ships, as they seemed to be bristling with weapons, almost excessively so relative to their ship sizes. The Eleani ships seemed to have taken a different design philosophy, and they gave the impression of deadly speed and grace, and she was hard-pressed to spot any obvious weapons on their hulls despite the AI confirming that the ships were indeed well-armed.
There was another coded signal from null space that appeared on the comm station panel, and her comm officer turned to her. “Vice-admiral, we have received a coded message on the sigma frequency for your eyes only that requires biometric and voice verification to decrypt.” Zhou nodded and pressed a button on her arm panel, activating the privacy screen around her chair and feeling the pressure change as the bridge around her became opaque and silent. She pressed the biometric toggle on the panel, and a retinal scanner popped out of its alcove on the side. She leaned in and scanned her right eye first, then her left. An icon appeared on the screen, and she thumbed it as it flashed and confirmed the print. Finally, she spoke and addressed the bridge AI: “Suzy, please confirm the voice command for verification.” The AI answered immediately. -Of course, Vice-Admiral Zhou, please proceed.- “Zhou, one-red-seven-green-four-tango-alpha-zero. Execute.” -Voice command verified. Thank you, Vice-Admiral Zhou.-
A small holographic display popped up in front of her; the admiral appeared on the screen, and his pre-recorded message started playing. “Mei, I know all this cloak and dagger stuff seems excessive, but we couldn’t take any chances. The receipt of this message will activate a program in your bridge AI and allow it to take control of the new drone ships waiting for you in null space. They are a new class of upgraded null ships and are top secret. Your AI will anchor them to your task force, and they will follow you, remaining hidden in null space unless you absolutely need them.”
“There are also two troopships with them that are carrying a complement of two thousand Mark XII ATS Bio-Synths and an expeditionary brigade each of rangers and pathfinders in stasis. They are also to remain in null space unless circumstances require that you need them; they are an insurance policy for an ongoing mission in Insectoid space. The details of that are top secret as well and can be accessed with your AI. If the troopships are required for that mission, they are to be escorted by a detachment of null ships and sent there immediately. After you have met your task force counterpart, there are orders in this packet that are to be accessed by you both and executed. I have the utmost faith in you, Mei, and I can’t wait to take you out to dinner again when we can both coordinate our next leave together. Thompson out.”
The hologram message disappeared, and she waited a little longer to allow the blush from his last sentence to fade from her cheeks and suppress the smile that was trying to form on her face before she put on her command mask and lowered the privacy screen. The bridge crew was going about their usual tasks, trying hard not to seem interested in her top-secret message. “Comms, open a channel to the task force flagship, please.” The comm officer acknowledged the order, and a few seconds later, the Bridge of the Commonwealth flagship appeared on the viewscreen.
A Nekuli male was sitting in the command chair, resplendent in the uniform favored by Nekuli officers. He took a moment to look around her bridge before settling his eyes on her. He bowed his head slowly in a gesture of respect, which she returned in proper fashion. The proper courtesies having been observed, he raised his eyes to meet with hers and started speaking. “Vice-Admiral Zhou. May the ancestors grant you and your clan honor and good fortune. I am deeply honored to meet you, and I hope our integration is a successful endeavor. I now entrust the honor of myself and my crew to your safekeeping.” He remained stone still as he awaited her reply, and she tried to remember the proper return greeting that she had been studying during their trip here.
“Commodore Therax, the honor is mine, and I promise you that I shall never ask you or your crew to undertake any action that will bring dishonor to your clans and your ancestors. We are now joined as one; may our cause be just and pure.” She finished the response, and the gravity of what she just promised to someone she had never met before hit her hard; it felt almost sacred to her. Commodore Therax heard her proper reply, and he stood up, followed by the rest of his bridge crew. He addressed her again. “Our honor has been given, and we have received a promise to safeguard it in return. Our joining is now consecrated in the eyes of the ancestors, and you are now our clan leader. What are your orders?
She recovered from the ordeal of the emotionally charged exchange of vows and stood up to give her first order as clan leader to the Nekuli. “I request the presence of you and your senior staff aboard my ship tonight. I will prepare a feast to honor our new friendship and alliance. I have studied your cuisine, and I have found a selection of Earth cuisine that should suit your taste. It is called tartare and sashimi; I think you will like it.” Commodore Therax looked at her dubiously, and she had to stifle a laugh at his expression as she knew that he was imagining being forced to eat vegetables and overcooked meat out of politeness. She spoke quickly to assuage his fears. “Commodore, tartare, and sashimi are raw red meat and fish; I would never inflict vegetables and burnt meat on you or your crew; are we not friends?”
As his translator finished converting her words into his language, he smiled at her, baring all of his fangs in true happiness.

2024.05.14 01:34 WorkingSoft2894 Morgellons Agenda Information
In the mid-nineties we began to see strange formations in long rows of “clouds” globally. Despite attempts at overthrow and Roswell -type deviations , cloud seeding by various high-ranking military and aviation groups, it became clear since 2000 that CHEMTRAILS were a real and tangible phenomenon.
Cliff Carnicom gives 7 possible reasons for this aerosol spraying end game. As with many dot-omega systems, we are unable to reduce this to a singular cause or a binary choice. Chemtrails are a covert, high - level black project , and as we've said elsewhere, it's one they've kept under lock and key for a decade. These include:
HAARP -related stratospheric communication
ELF Waves communication
plasma and ionization
military techniques for pan-optical vision
a method of tracking and/or interrupting UFO visits
population reduction through toxins etc.
Only a spate of chemtrails found over the years were various forms of fibers, tubes and fungi. Until recently, what this did to humans was not known. This could have changed and the consequences are bizarre.
LINKING CHEMTRAILS, NANO TECH, MORGELLONS :
The pseudo-illuminoids bring a precursor to the final deception in the possible form of a hyper-agent sent decades ahead, as usual: in plain sight.
Or could it be that the aerosol spraying link is not yet fully established? We can suggest this if we go back to one of the main statements made by a bio-chemist from within the establishment, who came out and spoke on the subject.
He stated in an interview about Project Shield that to prevent UV rays from penetrating the ecosystem – that these same trails were part of the plasma base that supports the metal particles used in aerosol spraying. .
CHIMERA – SILICONE BASED BIO-DATA TERMS, REACHING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM NEAR YOU.
The NANO BUG HAS different kinds of INTELLIGENCE, including what microbiologists call 'quorum sensing' – essentially this means that the cells communicate at a non-local [or hive] level. This element of things is supported by personal experience in diseases where individuals observed that fibers responded in bizarre ways to various environmental inputs. For example – the 'organism' will climb out of a bleach solution within a few hours, if given a method of escape.
It is interesting that few people, even the so-called left field research area on the ground, are prepared to confront just what this agent could be. Once you invest time understanding even basic biology and biological warfare weaponry, you can only conclude that it exists outside of any consensual philosophy.
Investigation of Morgellons and Chemtrails – Local Audio
– IT IS CLEAR THAT WITHIN THE GOVERNMENT OR RATHER THOSE WHO "PULL THE STRINGS" HAVE ABSOLUTELY KNOWINGLY AND DELIBERATELY CREATED AND UNLEASHED THIS SITUATION FOR REASONS ONLY THEY KNOW ,BUT IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT IT IS JUST A PART OR CONTINUING PIECE OF THERE GRAND NEFARIOUS AGENDA.
Watchdog organizations of diseases through the boards HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS.
“I can also assure you that this infectious agent is rather a slow , SLOW but very dangerous one, and everything will become a primary issue.
Doing some creative background work allows us to conclude the following:
The agent IS NOT COAL BASED – that is, it is a leap beyond anything we could currently be aware of.
The agent, when mapped at a macro level, has intelligence, binding within the host's DNA/RNA signals.
Due to the fact that the agent can remain dormant in humans – it is entirely possible that large numbers of the population are already carriers.
CASES OF MORGELLONS HAVE BEEN RECORDED ON EVERY CONTINENT EXCEPT THE ARCTIC.
The fact that there is evidence that the spores ** that produce this agent are being 'seeded' via aerosol sprays – which we already know happens on every continent – of course changes the whole game. The Spanish Influenza, which was based on the current “bird flu” and coded H1N1, which killed millions at the end of World War I, apparently leaked from a US military laboratory.
- Then, there is the possibility that this is, in fact, wrong, and this new bio-agent came from somewhere else – that is, it is an out-of-this-world entity. ** Note that the link to chemtrail activity is unproven, more of an ongoing hypothesis. If you investigate the possible delivery mechanism, or “soup” through which the supposed [revealed] chemtrail activity is distributed, it is claimed that nano-wires are used as a kind of web base for the creation of Solar protection. This may have been the case, but the fact that the latest in bio-agents could be being distributed globally from the air to the population, moves us to a new level. Instead of making a binary statement that this delivery method is being used - we could assume that the spraying was happening for other reasons [one of many proposals], and that this bio-agent was added under the cover of a broader, global agreement on environmental protection. After all, no one is going to say no to this angle, and it seems, from the fact that tank spraying is happening on every continent, that this is the case.
THE CANISTECHEMICAL/AEROSOL PRODUCTION IS IN FACT, DONE UNDER A BLIND SYSTEM, SO THAT EACH COUNTRY/AREA CANNOT KNOW WHO IS RECEIVING THAT.
This was intended to prevent exactly the kind of nightmare scenario that is occurring, which we may be facing now: namely, one of the parts implementing additional movement systems, of a global environmental control system to the bio-warfare and genetic manipulation.

2024.05.14 00:11 krusty-krab-pizza1 iPhone Configuration Guide w/ Checklist
A month or so ago I busted my phone, and it was a huge pain in the ass. Aside from some lost data which was minor, the biggest PIA was resetting MFA, getting in touch with my US banks, and any other services that were tied to my phone. The experience also made me take a step back and realize I am pretty lax with security, and if someone had gotten hold of my phone and somehow god-forbid gotten the passcode, then I'd be fucked. They could do so much damage with unlimited access to my email + MFA SMS, even in just a few hours.
As a result, I kind of went down the ADHD rabbit hole hyper-fixating on how best to "optimize" my iPhone and iCloud configuration for two things:
- If it breaks, the transition to a new device will be relatively painless. I won't have to spend several days stressing and trying to find the right international customer support number for a myriad of institutions and services to get into my accounts.
- If it gets stolen and compromised, then there will be enough barriers such that the I'll have enough time to lock down the device and/or my accounts remotely before the thief can get key data or move funds.
So I put together this guide and checklist that I thought I'd share with others. I am a programmer but by no means a security guru, and so if any IT, DevOps, or SecOps folks want to chime-in with suggestions or improvements, please do.
Requirements
- an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone 14 or newer for eSIM compatibility.
- a US-based carrier with eSIM support + a pay-as-you-go model for international travel (I use Verizon)
- iOS 17 or above (may not be strictly necessary, but I know my setup works with iOS 17.4.1)
- a password manager. I personally use 1Password because it works, is reliable, has cross-device support, and is easy and intuitive. It's also only $3/month.
Dual Sim Setup
I have been rocking an iPhone 12 for the past few years, and it's served me very well. I know the newer iPhones (14 and up) no longer offer physical SIM card support, but carriers in most developing countries are behind the curve. Even if they offer eSIM support, it's been my experience that it's a major headache to get setup, there is a lack of customer support in English, and they may even require a local ID to register the eSIM. It's way easier to just head to a shop and pay $5 for a SIM card, load some funds onto it, and then you're good to go.
The eSIM has been very helpful for maintaining a US phone number for which I can receive SMS texts from my banks and other financial services as well as continue to use iMessage with all my US contacts since hardly anybody is on Whatsapp.
Most, if not all, carriers in the US support eSIMs now, and so you should try to find a carrier that offers an international pay-as-you-go plan. Verizon offers two international plans - one is a "Travel Pass" where it's a flat fee of $10/day anywhere outside the US or Canada (even for just one text message). The other is "pay for what you use" which has a rate per text, minute, and mb. For my US plan, I only care about receiving SMS texts from my banks and the occasional phone call to a service that doesn't have an international, toll-free number. Data will always be cheaper outside the US, so I disable cellular data switching for my US line.
The last time I was in the US was for the holidays and I bought 2 used iPhone 12's for about $200 each. They have some scuffs, but they're perfectly serviceable. In LATAM, it also doesn't attract nearly as much unwanted attention in the street as an iPhone 14 or 15.
I brought these with me as extra devices. When my phone busted last month, thankfully I had a backup in iCloud and everything was loaded in a few minutes as normal. This was before I was using the eSIM, but if I had the eSIM I could just go to Verizon support online via chat and they could help me switch the line to the new device easily.
Basic Configurations
- Always use the latest version of firmware
- Require a passcode that's unique to that device.
- Use FaceID instead of passcode when possible (a thief can't snipe your passcode from a distance if you unlock your phone with FaceID)
- Set auto-lock to 30 seconds (lowest possible)
- Erase data upon excessive passcode failures note, this is complemented in a later step with daily backups. The odds of you putting in the wrong passcode 10 times is low, but in the event you do and you wipe the device by accident, you should be able to easily load in a back-up from the previous day)
- Turn off "Ask to Join Networks"
- Forget unused networks so that you don't rejoin automatically (airports, hotels, etc.)
Creating Backups
- Set iCloud backups to run automatically every night. This will allow you to load your entire phone as is (contacts, call history, iMessages, apps, even your wallpaper) onto another device during setup. The iCloud backup usually runs at 2am while I'm sleeping.
- You may need to pay for a higher tier in iCloud if you have too much stored on your phone. It's $3/month for 200gb of iCloud storage, and I find it worth it. Though I know some people with tens of thousands of photos for which 200gb might not be enough.
Password Policy
- For any accounts that may contain sensitive data (payments, PII, etc), always generate a unique password with 1Password. Don't reuse passwords. Same goes for PIN codes.
- For core accounts, create a strong but memorable password and then memorize it. The odds of getting locked out of 1Password are low if you're diligent, but for 2 or 3 core accounts (where you access money, your primary recovery email, your iCloud, 1Password), it's worth it to create strong, unique passwords for each core service and memorize them.
- I try not to reuse passwords in general, but I still sometimes am lazy and use one of my handful of typical passwords if there's no sensitive data collected by the service and it's a service I don't use often.
MFA
Set up MFA with everything. Add multiple options if possible. My preferred MFA options are as follows:
- One-time code that renews every 30 seconds. This is device agnostic and can be stored in 1Password. You could also use Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy or similar, but there's just more overhead to now recover those accounts if your device becomes inaccessible.
- One-time code to recovery email.
- One-time code via SMS to my US phone number. On the pay-as-you-go Verizon plan, I only pay 5 cents per text message received. It's worth it to keep one consistent number.
- List of recovery codes (stored in 1Password as an attached txt file for the given account)
- Use another app for verification (Google does this a lot).
Lockdown your iCloud security
- Enable MFA.
- Create a strong, unique password.
- Remove any old or unused devices from the iCloud account (old phones, ipods, etc).
- Enable "Find My" for all of your devices.
- In Find My, configure all devices to send the last known location.
- In Find My, enable the configuration to remotely wipe a device.
In the event your phone is stolen, the idea is you could run back to any of your devices or even use a friend's device to log into iCloud on the web, go to Find My, and then in a single button click you can lock and wipe the stolen device. If the thief turned off the device or disabled wifi/cellular, then as soon as it comes back online it will be wiped.
Final Clean-Up
- Move any compromising photos to the "hidden" folder (which requires FaceID or passcode to unlock)
- Review the Files app for any documents containing sensitive info. If you need these documents to be accessible on mobile, then move them to 1Password and delete them from the Files app.
- Create a shortcut to trigger the lock screen (and thus require FaceID or passcode) when specific apps are opened (banking, email, photos, etc).
- Not sure if this is best practice, but I just keep everything in 1P and turn off apple keychain and the apple built-in password manager. I also don't save passwords in Chrome or Safari.
Extra tips
These aren't really iPhone tips but general tips. They are probably obvious to you if you aren't as scatterbrained as me, but I figured that I'd drop them here in case they help someone.
- Add thorough security measures to iCloud, primary email, and any banking or financial services. Review each account and make sure you have a strong, unique password as well as a unique PIN, MFA configured, login alerts, recovery codes, and an international, 24-hour toll-free phone number stored somewhere to contact the service in the event of a crisis. For banking services, add withdrawal limits, regional restrictions (if you bounce between the same few countries), and SMS notifications for charges over a certain threshold. Open up a second checking account with a separate debit card for trips to the ATM.
- Consolidate and close any unused bank accounts. I realized that on my phone I had Revolut, Venmo, Paypal, Nequi, plus 4 US banking institutions. I took this time to close my Discover account (which is pretty much useless outside the US anyway), close my Revolut account since I'm hardly ever in the UK/EU, and consolidate investment accounts from different institutions into just a handful that's easier to monitor.

There's nothing wrong with it, and it works, but it just didn't actually seem to improve loading the mags for me, at least not without a bit of fitting that I wasn't interested in doing. - SV $5 with any other purchase/TV $10 with any other purchase
- Clakit and OneTigris Black MOLLE Phone Holsters - Decent pouches, but I run my kits in OCP or Green. Both have a soft liner inside to protect the phone, and both are pretty decently sized, should hold all but the biggest phones. - SV $20 for both/TV $25 for both
- EDIT: Forgot a couple pouches!
(x3) (x2) ABU JFAK Pouches w/Tourniquet Holsters - These are empty Air Force JFAK (Joint First Aid Kit) MOLLE pouches in the ABU (similar to ACU) pattern. All are in unissued shape, and each includes (x2) ABU MOLLE Tourniquet holsters. - SV $20 ea or $50 for all/TV $25 ea or $60 for all
- Woodland Camo Medical Pouch - Surplus from back in the day. Empty, in like-new condition, ready for all your mid-west LARPing needs! - SV $15/TV $20
KNIVES - Boker Magnum Drop Point Automatic Knife - This thing is actually pretty sweet! A classy little discontinued Auto in AUS8 with a good action and great centering. Has a couple minor scuffs, but is overall very clean! Feels great in the hand, and carries well. - SV $25/TV $30
- Buck Trio Pocket Knife - Brand new in the box. I'd sent an older discontinued model in for repair, and they replaced it with this one. - SV $15/TV $20
- 4 Pack of Goofy Carabiners - These came as part of a bundle I picked up a while back. They are trying to be Swiss Army Knife carabiners, and all sort-of succeed. I wouldn't trust my life with them, but I would trust my keys, and the tools on them are fairly useful. - SV $15/TV $20
MOVIES/TV - A big HD-DVD Bundle (12 Titles) - This is going to appeal to a VERY specific person, lol. I present to you, a bunch of HD-DVDs! Titles are in the pictures, but some highlights are Apollo 13, Constantine, and U571. All are in good overall shape, but the cover for The Departed is pretty rough. Discs are all in good shape. - SV $30/TV$40
- Bundle of Disney Blu-rays (14 titles) - A bundle of newer Disney movies; there's a mix of traditional animated, CG, and live action. All are in great shape, and all include both their blu-ray and DVD, except for Nightmare Before Christmas, which is only the blu-ray. None have any digital codes. - SV $40/TV $45
- Hanna-Barbera Complete Series: Speed Buggy and Josie and the Pussycats on DVD - Two DVD collections: the complete series of Speed Buggy and Josie and the Pussycats. Speed Buggy is in great shape, and Josie is still new in package. - SV $15/TV $20
- The Magnificent Seven Collection on DVD - A collection of the original 4 Magnificent Seven movies, in a nice DVD boxed set. - SV $5 with any purchase/TV $5 with any purchase
VIDEO GAMES - Skyward Sword (Wii) & Splatoon (WiiU) - Two more classics together. Skyward Sword is in good shape, includes it's manual and soundtrack, and plays on the Wii and WiiU. Splatoon's case is rough, but the game is in great shape! - SV $20/TV$25
- Iron Man VR for PS4 - Bought a PSVR recently, and in my frenzy to snatch up games, ended up with two copies of this. It's pretty fun, and as close as you'll get to being Tony Stark this side of the MCU! - SV $10/TV $15
TRADE INTERESTS: - P320/P250 Safariland Level II holster
- A decent minimalist plate carrier in OD or OCP
- Mags (P365, P226, P320/P250, 10/22)

2024.05.12 12:09 SeparatePassage3129 I put in my two (and a half) weeks notice and its been the greatest feeling ever.
This shit is finally coming to an end and I put in my two weeks notice last week. For some context I work within a hospital reviewing controls and systems and making sure that people are following the rules while simultaneously making process improvement recommendations.
My team is made up of three people.
- Manager - She has a University degree and has been working for 24 years, she spent the start of her career doing this profession for about 7 years and then spent the next 15 doing something completely and utterly different. Shes now come back to this profession in a position of manager but shes been out of the profession for such a long time that shes absolutely and utterly useless, doesn't understand general concepts, asks for things that conceptually make no sense and aren't well thought out and most importantly shes a fucking whip cracking bitch. She does no work at all, she only micromanages the rest of the team. Additionally she has the power to be nice and actively chooses not to be. i.e, all the managers have the power to let their staff work from home, she won't let us. She has the power to use special leave payments for anyone that gets covid, but forces us to use sick leave / vacation days. Everyone else in the building can wear smart casual attire, we aren't allowed to. Being nice is not only in her power, it costs her absolutely nothing as its not her money or has no monetary cost to the business. Every time she has an opportunity to be nice she actively says no just to remind you that shes in charge and fuck you.
- Me - I'm the team senior, I have the same University degree as my boss but also an additional post graduate qualification in this profession that is notoriously difficult that makes me significantly more qualified than my boss, this qualification requires I maintain 40 hours a year of training that my boss won't allow me to have, so I need to do this in my spare time at my own cost. I've been working for 12 years with all 12 in this one specific profession. I'm responsible for doing 5 big jobs per year. With each job I basically write the scope of the work, do the work, then write up the reports. The final reports go to the manager and her job is essentially just to take it to a committee for approval, shes a glorified carrier pigeon. I'm also responsible for training all the junior staff that come through, reviewing their work and helping them with writing up their findings.
- Junior - This role may aswell be the defence against the dark arts job from harry potter because no one has stayed in it beyond the minimum contract term of 6 months, 100% of people have been re-offered contracts and 100% of people have denied it. The first two people that were hired into this role were personal friends of the manager, but during the day to day it became clear that they saw their friend in a new 'light' and jumped ship at the first opportunity. The latest person also doesn't want to work here any longer.
My boss will also use any manipulation tactic she can to try to fuck with my career, heres an example.
I wanted to apply to use my vacation leave for 2 weeks, I wanted to put this leave request in the system 18 months in advance. It was not going to be during any major meeting or piece of work, just 2 weeks in a year and a half from that point in time, however, the system at work would not let me put through the leave due to an error, so I told her in person and she said it was okay. 4 months later (14 months prior to holiday) I mention the holiday in a passing comment and she loses her mind saying that I had not told her about it and that I was selfish for just 'expecting' that she would approve my leave. I message my SO about it on the day talking about how weird it is that shes forgotten about the leave.
2 months later, same thing, mention it in passing, she freaks out saying I was unprofessional for not letting her know. 4 months after that the same thing happens for a third time, but this time its in an email chain, in this email chain she accuses me again of unprofessional behaviour and gives me a warning that I was in breach of the code of conduct for professional behaviour, which is a huge accusation where I work. I immediately emailed back screenshots of the numerous discussions Id had with my SO about her continuing to forget about the leave I had requested (that wasn't even due for another 10 months) and immediately went to HR to say I'd planned this trip to purpose and it looked like my boss was lining me up to get everything sorted and booked only to deny my the leave before I could go. HR intervenes and say I'm 100% allowed to take that leave period.
There are hundreds more examples, but this is just to show that even the smallest little thing becomes a nightmare with this boss. Things are so bad at work that no one talks, literally, the manager me and the junior will go a full 7.5 hour business day without saying a word to one another at all unless shes micromanaging. The junior and I talk a lot with one another when the boss isn't in, but when she is in she never leaves her desk and when I say never, I mean never, never uses the toilet, ever, never leaves for lunch, ever. She will get in at 8am, sit, then goes home at the end of the day. Sometimes she moves to use the printer or go to a meeting which is the only respite. I want to keep complaining but this is getting lengthy so I'll get to the point.
I applied for a new job, they offered it to me last week. I immediately gave my two weeks, but since it was a Wednesday I said I'd finish on the 24th so a couple of extra days.
I know that we all like to 'feel' that we are irriplaceable but know deep down that we aren't and that once we leave another log will feed into the bandsaw but for the first time in my life I actually feel it.
Here is what happened since I gave my notice:
- I start and finish slightly earlier than my team, on the day I gave notice, my boss had a meeting with the junior 2 minutes after I left, literally, to beg her to go full time (currently PT) immediately. I found this out because the next day when my manager had a meeting I asked the junior if she has been offered full time (expecting it to happen) and she told me she did it the second I finished the day prior.
- She's trying to call the executive team and beg for a few of our jobs to be cancelled/postponed until future notice due to staffing issues (since I do 5 jobs and the junior does 2 but under my supervision, all the work is coming to a halt)
- The junior told her that not only did she not want to go full time, but that she was actually using her current days of to attend job interviews because she doesn't want to work here any more herself.
- My boss now given me so much conflicting work its impossible to do. On one hand, she wants me to finish up all the jobs I currently have in WIP. On the other, there are a number of systems reports where I am the sole person who knows how to create them and generate the right details from the system. So shes basically screaming that I need to finish these instructions "Right now" so that she can test them and make sure that she can follow them, while simultaneously getting angry that I need to finish draft reports.
- At one point she completely forgot about a bunch of conversations we had about pausing one job to do another because the key person in charge was going on extended leave. That second job is now finished and I'm back on the first and she asked for a status update. For one thing she snapped "You should have done that 6 weeks ago!!!!" and I reminded her about the change in priorities, she again tried to snap and I just laughed, shrugged and said "Ok?". It didn't click with her that once my notice was in I would stop giving a fuck about her tantrums since I now no longer need to rely on her for a reference.
- At one point my manager left the room and the junior left the room 3 seconds later. As I mentioned earlier my boss never ever leaves her desk and I needed to reprint a document I had a small typo on (used a job code instead of a position code), thinking I could swap it with the draft I put on her desk earlier that day and she wouldn't notice. On my way to the printer room I noticed she had the junior backed into a corner basically begging her to go full time / higher duties, the works.
And thats literally just been over the last 2 working days. I'm going to keep working hard because first and foremost I'm a professional and my hatred for my boss would never make me compromise the integrity of the work, but god damn is it nice watching her collapse in on herself like a dying star. The problem is I don't get to work solo with the junior until mid week so I won't be able to find out the gossip about what the boss has been saying to her privately, but I can't wait.
Honestly the day I start my new job is also the day my current boss goes on a big overseas vacation, so I'm telling the junior to make hay while the sun is shining and that she may aswell take the huge salary jump for a couple of months while looking for another job. Shes going to have the same fuckhead boss regardless of working in her role part time or my role full time. She doesn't have any qualifications for this profession but shes super switched on and was a breeze to train. Though part of me does love the idea that my boss comes back from holiday to a team of only herself with a bunch of jobs nearing their due date.
The saddest part is that even if I hate my new job so bad I want to kill myself, then it'll still be better since it pays more and I already feel that working for my current boss.
Update 14th - 10 days to go:
- This morning I got to work and all the systems were down, so I wasn't able to do anything for the first hour, she sent me an email asking that I get the junior to go through all the instructions I wrote up on Friday and get her to see if she can create the same final reports from the instructions. If she gets stuck on anything I'm supposed to train her on what to do and update the instructions accordingly. The instructions are complex, I'm not sure how she will go because in addition to telling her she has to do (X) task, I also need to explain how the system works, why that task needs to be done in that order specifically, then any troubleshooting that she could possibly need in the event that the function doesn't work to rectify it.
- My bosses phone rang and I answered saying "SeperatePassage, BossNames phone" and the person on the other end said she just wanted to check that it was still my bosses number, I didn't add it in the background to limit the size of the post, but it came out that my boss has had people spying on me, so I think this may have been her way of monitoring where I was in the building. I know, I know, I sound paranoid as fuck, my SO used to think so as well until something eventuated from every time I was suspicious. Another perk of quitting is never having to be a workplace-conspiracy-theorist again.
- Junior came in and told me the details surrounding what happened last Wednesday (Junior works Mon-Wed, boss doesn't work Tuesdays, so this is the first day we've had alone and the only day where there is casual talk in the office). When they both went to a meeting in the other side of the building, on the walk back my boss looked like she was going to cry. The junior stopped and asked her if she was okay and she said "Its all a bit much right now".
- The secret hallway conversation was the boss again asking if she would be willing to go full time for 3 months with an option to extend (starting this coming Monday), that way shes not stuck being full time but it gives my boss some wiggle room to hire and train up a replacement. I'm happy that junior got full time, her current FTE is a 0.5 so her salary literally doubles which is amazing, plus three of those weeks will be while my boss is on vacation. I've told her to push for the ability to work from home those three weeks so shes not alone trapped in a room. I doubt it, but she deserves to WFH. This also tooted my horn a bit, within the first two weeks of my working there I was able to automate some report functions and also pump out a job start to finish in 9 days that was three years overdue, knowing that the expectation is three months to get someone up to speed with where I am is a nice feeling.
- Junior is probably going to get chewed out tomorrow because today she worked on finishing one of her reports even though I tasked her with going through the instructions. I now have 8 working days left and no steps have been taken to test the instructions.
- I wish I could say more exciting stuff, but since this post is real unlike most text based reddit tales, I'm not going to make up random details just to make it spicey, though the boss was unusually nice yesterday, I think shes trying to stay in my good graces for the remaining time for two reasons, the first being I'll keep working hard to finish up my current workload but the second more important one is so she is able to call me to ask me questions when I start my new job (spoiler, I'm blocking the number C.O.B last day)

2024.05.12 00:16 Iatroblast Nest Thermostat: Rc and C wire error codes on initial set up -- device claims "no power"
Edit: it’s fixed now! The C wire was disconnected from the furnace end. Because the old thermostat had been AA battery powered, it was of no consequence that it was not actually connected to power. My guess is somebody before me didn’t know what they were doing (either) and that’s why everything was so confusing.
TL;DR -- please help with Nest initial set up -- error codes claiming no power coming to device.
I'm setting up a Nest 3rd gen learning thermostat for the first time and having issues. As I set it up, I get an E73 error for "no power coming from Rc wire" and an E79 for "no power from C wire". These two different error codes alternate as I flip the breaker and troubleshoot the connections. The E79 error is more common but each have popped up individually, but never both at the same time.
I'm using a multimeter which shows both the Rc and the C wires getting roughly 25V of power, so I doubt that's the issue. (Admittedly, I barely know how to use a multimeter but I'm confident in the voltage differences).
I was fastidious in labeling the wires and took a reference photo before disconnecting the older digital Carrier thermostat (which used AA batteries and had a simple LCD screen).
The wires I have are Rc, W, C, G, and Y/Y2. I've double checked connections multiple times, have a good solid connection to each one and have enough exposed wire.
It really seems to be an issue with the thermostat itself, maybe a software update or a firmware update needed? Software version is 2.3.51 / 3.1.
Oddly, when I charged it up really well with a USB cable, all the errors went away and it functioned as normal, for about 1 minute and then it seemed the battery dipped too low and it just displays the error code.
What am I missing here? Do I need to buy some sort of AC adapter or something, and how would I know whether I would need one?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Old thermostat, a Carrier
I've double checked these are well-seated multiple times.

2024.05.11 13:51 dmbtech voip.ms (or maybe their carrier broadband.com) outbound route issues for 2 ported numbers
So I purchased 2 numbers from number barn, both seem to have Level 3/Century Link landline(both have same area code and exchange prefix NPA/NXX) as the carrier prior to the porting. These numbers were both ported, one to an Att wireless mvno providor, and the other to verizon wireless. The att port completed on Tuesday, verizon one completed today, and I can confirm on various lrn lookup sites (carrierlookup, unlec etc), and Tmobile, Verizon FDV, telnyx sip trunk all seem to route to the new carrier, however my
voip.ms sip trunk, and Google Fi (Guessing perhaps they use
broadband.com for outbound) still seem to be routing to number barn. I opened a ticket with numberbarn, and they deleted the number from their system, now
voip.ms and googlefi route to a busy signal. The port that completed tuesday should be routable by now right(as of today, 4+ days)? How long do these carriers cache the old LRNS? I opened up a ticket with
voip.ms on thursday, have no heard back, but should I just wait for things to correct, will they correct? If they don't correct, who to reach out to, old carrier (numberbarn)? voip.ms? New carrier (ATT Mobility and Verizon wireless)?
EDIT: Just another observation, SMS routes fine, its only voice
EDIT: Resolved! Opening a ticket with
voip.ms, providing detailed samples(good routing, bad routing, numbers, timestamps) resolved it after ticket was escalated (it was sitting for a while). It sounds like typically its the terminating carrier that is responsible, luckily
voip.ms resolved, as dealing with wireless providers would have been a huge frustrating experience.

- NRT - 75-minute ~$15 train ride to Tokyo
- TYO - use this airport code to search both HND and NRT
JAL Award Seat Release Information - Cathay Pacific (CX) - 360 days
- British Airways (BA) - 355 days
- American (AA) - 331 days
- Alaksa (AS) - 331 days
- JAL awards are released at 10:00am JST (9:00pm EST)
- JAL typically releases 0-2 F and 0-4 J seats initially
- JAL also releases award inventory at T-14 days; a risky strategy, but we will discuss below how to play it
Searching for Award Availability - Since BA and CX get the seats 30 days before AA, AA is left with the scraps
- As of today 5/10/24, the AA calendar only goes out to 4/6/25
- Use the BA website to see what JAL availability is coming down the pipe
- In my example I am looking at 4/7/25 to see what AA will have tomorrow
- Searching on BA is self explanatory; just need to sign up for an account, mouse over Book, click Book Flight with Avios, tick One Way Only, class Business / Club, search
Finding Availability on AA - Login to your AA account and click Advanced / Multi-city search right below the big blue Search button
- Tick Redeem Miles, one way, from any of the above airports to TYO, select # passengers, and under Class select Business / First, search
- Click the "Calendar" button for a full month overview
- Any date showing 60K is likely to be JAL J, and 80K is JAL F
- From the Calendar page you can also select "Premium Economy" from the dropdown which wasn't available on the initial page
- If you're looking for PE, scan for 50K flights
- TIP: Don't solely rely on the Calendar view, sometimes the number showing above the day is not accurate; it's worth clicking into each day to verify
- TIP: It's worth checking from your home airport as well, some users report seeing availability even when hubs aren't showing any
- TIP: Sometimes you get wonky routings (e.g. LAX > BOS > TYO), but you can tick "nonstop only" on the AA search results page
- TIP: bookmark this link and modify the URL for the airports and dates you're looking for to make the process quicker - you'll be doing it a lot
- TIP: Phantom availability does happen sometimes with AA, which means they are showing Award Space they don't actually have. If you are planning to transfer points to AA, double check the Alaska Airlines (AS) site or call AA to verify they are showing availability as well before you transfer.
AA Site Release Timing - AA will let you select the next calendar day at 12a CST, but it will give an error until about 1am CST
- Still, you may not be able to put any flights on Hold until even later
- Unfortunately this part is not consistent in my experience
- Yes, this means the 10:00am JST award release time is meaningless for us
- It also means it's only worth staying up late if you are seeing availability for the next day on BA
Departure Airport / Positioning / Holding Flights - Given the difficulty of finding space, you will need to be very flexible on departure airport
- Go to flightsfrom dot com and see what direct routes AA flies from your home airport to any of the JAL airports
- If you find a ticket, put it on "Hold" via the AA website
- Go through the checkout process and "Hold" will be an option on the Payment page
- The hold is free for 5 days and then it expires
- Once your ticket is on hold, call AA and they can add your connecting flight for free if T or U fare class is available
- You may have to call a few times until you get an AAgent who knows how to do this, some will say it can't be done and they are wrong
- Otherwise, you will need either a separate AA award flight or pay for any other carrier's flight
Peak Season Strategy - Peak seasons are March - May (Sakura / Cherry Blossom season) and September - November, and these dates are extremely difficult to get J or F on AA due to the 30 day lag
- If you are set on prime Sakura season, you have a much better chance going through CX / BA
- The downside of CX / BA is a higher points cost and significantly higher taxes and fees
- One strategy is to book a PE seat 331 days out, and at T-14 start searching for J and F availability
- Anecdotally, they also randomly add more seats at T-7 and closer in; jus start checking at T-14
- If you find J or F, just call AA and they can cancel your PE flight, instantly refund the miles, and book your new flight
- This is obviously risky, but from most accounts JAL PE is still a very nice product
Getting Back to the US from TYO - Some say this is even harder to book in advance than the flight there
- Anecdotally, people seem to have a lot of luck with T-14 getting back to the US
- Recommend using the same PE strategy above
Hopefully you've found this helpful. Please comment anything I may have missed or gotten wrong and I will edit the guide over time. Thanks to all that have provided advice and guidance on both here and FT, and good luck!

2024.05.10 19:45 LocusHammer Blood Bowl 2: Bretonnian Guide and Overall Team Perspective.
Bretonnian Guide Blood Bowl 2 Foreword I know that Bloodbowl 3 is out, however, my league has not transitioned to BB3 yet since all the races have not been released. We are in our leagues 5th season right now. It is a small league, but the players are all great and there is a great discord. We recently required all coaches to start over with a new team last season at TV1000. I like the aesthetic of Bretonnia, so I selected them. Now that I have 11 games under my belt with them, I thought I might take a stab at a new updated guide. The one that google likes to point me to is from 5 years ago. Whats better than updated content for a game that is dead lmao. Anyway, for any new coaches interested in Bretonnia, here are my thoughts. Let me know what you think if youd like to.
Roster Breakdown Positional Name | Value | MA | ST | AG | AV | Skills | Skill Tree |
Blitzer | 110,000 | 7 | 3 | 3 | 8 | Block, Catch, Dauntless | Agility, Passing, General |
Blocker | 70,000 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 8 | Wrestle | Strength |
Lineman | 40,000 | 6 | 3 | 2 | 7 | Fend | General |
Bretonnian Offensive/Defensive Scheme - Offense: Heavy Screen Dependent Rushing Attack with handoff play opportunity.
- Defense: Heavy Screen Defense that is highly reliant on efficient player marking and restricting opponent player movement.
Offensive Philosophy and Playstyle: - Bretonnia is a rushing attack focused offense. They cannot reliably utilize a passing scheme on offense without substantial skill improvements to Blitzers. In most cases the opportunity cost associated with specializing passing Blitzers is too high to consider, as there are far more valuable skills available. You will be scoring touchdowns by forcing gaps in an opponents secondary and creating protected running lanes.
- The closest to a passing attack that Bretonnian teams have is the Blitzer handoff. Utilizing the catch skill, Blitzers can reliably hand off the ball to other blitzers to exploit massive running lanes if set up correctly. A handoff play has potential to cover 18 squares of space if utilized to full extent.
- Mobility is all important. You do not want your players marking an opponent unnecessarily. Freedom of movement lets you sustain your screen and drive the ball reliably. If your opponent is able to successfully box you in, Bretonnia has few reliable options to escape, this will result in stalled drives or turnovers. Prioritize freedom of movement for your players whenever possible.
- Unlike more bashier teams, you will find that the standard 4 player cage, slowly advancing up the field, will prove ineffective on offense. The Bretonnian roster simply is not strong enough, or durable enough, to do this without sacrificing players. Resorting to traditional 4 player cages on offense will result in your opponent boxing you in and smothering you.
- Effective screening will focus on establishing a wedge in the pitch between you and your opponent. All Bretonnian offensive moves should be focused on shifting this wedge / line in relation to the drive. If performed correctly, there should be a clear line made up of your players that divides the pitch. Your objective is to bottle your opponent on the far side of the pitch away from your ball carrier. As the drive progresses, this line will move and shift. A line should always extend past blitz threat of your opponent to your ball carrier. This line does not need to be constant. You can effectively keep two space gaps between your players and maintain an effective screen. (At the risk of being two die blitzed)
- Bretonnia is highly dependent on pitch control, maintaining a solid offensive line, utilizing tackle zones properly, and taking strategic 2 die blocks with your blitzers. With the skills Fend and Wrestle, your positionals can prevent your opponent from breaking your line or blitzing around an exposed wing.
- Pace of game is highly important in all bloodbowl games. If playing skaven team, Bretonnian teams do not want to score quickly. If playing dwarves, the risk of an opponent td is less. Game Pace changes each match and should be considered in all scoring decisions.
- Bretonnian Average Score per match: 1.00
Defensive Philosophy and Playstyle: - A defensive screen is your primary defensive scheme. A guide to Defensive Screens in Bloodbowl: Here is a link detailing the inns and outs of defensive screens in Bloodbowl. There are other resources available too and some helpful videos easily available on youtube. Just search them. Screening can also be called Tackle Zone Defense. Essentially, Bretonnian defense is focused on maintaining 1 square gap distance from opponents when possible or unless it would be better to engage. (such as putting a guard blocker on a line enabling support for two blocks) Bretonnian Defensive scheme should focus on forcing your opponent to play patient and account for your tackle zones. Eventually they will make a mistake or leave an opening. When this oppening presents itself, you can exploit it with a blitz from a Blitzer.
- Cage Breaking is difficult until sufficient guard is on the team. Instead, you will likely attack the ball carrier using gap blitzes from your blitzers. With MA 7 these players, at the right time, can often manuever around an entire cage and hit the ball carrier.
- If you have an opening to attack the ball carrier with a blitzer or blocker, it is probably a good idea to do so even on a one die block. If you break a cage and free the ball, it is often a good idea to push opponent players onto the ball to scatter is. Low AGI teams might scatter the ball all the way to your line. At best this incites chaos.
- Despite wanting to bash, Bretonnian teams should take a page from elf playbooks. On defense you should limit blocks sustained at all times. You are not a high armor team especially starting out. All positionals have value and a removal impacts your teams ability to play defense.
- For passing scheme teams, it is adviseable that Bretonnian teams prioritize deep threat receivers when possible. Without much tackle, and with many catchers having access to blodge, these players can withstand multiple blocks and can easily dodge away at high probability roles. It is probably more efficient to remove a threatened receiver than it is to hit a high value player that is not impacting the current play. If a block is not possible, mark them on top and bottom to impose maximum tackle zones. Blockers are effective blitzers against blodge/dodge ball carriers.
- You must walk the tight rope of being too aggressive and too cautious with Blitzers. You must use them to win, however, if youre too aggressive they can be swallowed up and removed, either from injury or from marking. Additionally, you cannot be too cautious with them because the other two positionals are not enough to win on their own. Aggressively take optimal blitzes with your blitzers, and pull them back into a place where they have support.
- Blitzers make excellent safeties due to their movement. Always keep at least one safety and swing that safety as the offense shifts. If your opponent is attacking a wing, move your safety to the second furthest square to discourage dodge dive bombs. On the subject of safeties, it will not cost you the game if you decided to be extra cautious and pull a second safety when needed.
- Do not over extend players. Focus on maintaining your screen and coordinating with all other players on the team. No one is a lone hero for this team. What might look like an open gap to your opponents backline might instead be a trap hoping to isolate your invaluable blitzer. Remember, piece removal is not only in injury or casualty. If a zombie pins my blitzer against a sideline preventing me from standing him up and moving or else he will be pushed out, that is as good as a knock out or at the least a stun that might last multiple turns.
- Mobility is key to Bretonnian defense. Free players enable you to adjust the screen.
- A very common Bretonnian tactic is using lineman to foul players at optimal times. A stun on a ghoul in exchange for a 40k lineman is an efficient trade. This requires having one free lineman linebacker.
Screening and Ball Protection: - On Offense, if you are reliably able to control the center 5 spaces of the pitch you should always do so when a drive starts. Unless it’s a bashier team, you will probably have the opportunity to two die block the 3 lineman your opponent has setup. Always take these 3 free blocks if you can. Always stay put when blocking to maintain your line.
- Center pitch control is vital until you have selected a running lane or identified a weakness in your opponents defense.
- Your focus on ball protection is on screening. Start thinking about your players as their 9 square tackle zones instead of their one space they occupy. It is far more valuable to screen a wing, or secure a section of the pitch with your tackle zones than sacrificing them to cage up. (This of course has exceptions).
- Utilize your blockers effectively to set up two die blocks on running lane gaps (e.g. blitzing this player on the wing frees up a lane).
- If you have secured your rushing lane and can reliably send lineman, blitzers, or blockers through it to lock down more pitch, you should do so. Your focus should always be on mobility and freedom of movement, which means you must secure the necessary pitch area to ensure you can move forward.
- When a running lane has been exploited, if you have available players you should take marks that limit mobility of opposing players ability to react to your shift.
Advice on throwing blocks playing as Bretonnia: - You do not want to be rolling dice unnecessarily. You should only be taking 1-2 blocks a play on average unless you are more risk taking. These blocks should always be two-die blocks made with either a blocker or a blitzer. (This is probably just general bloodbowl advice)
- Be aware of how your players will be pushing the opponent. Do not push opponents into your teammates unless it’s a strategic decision (such as securing the two die or eliminating a player from moving). The last thing you want to do is lock up a blocker or a lineman because you made a mistake in your push. It is usually better to stay put on a block than follow up.
- Having your player free for its next move is far more important than marking a player or getting into a scrum where you are not actually contributing to block strength. It might sound like common sense but its important especially for Bretonnian teams.
Using the Bretonnian Roster Positional Playstyles and Advice Blitzer: - Your blitzer is your primary ball carrier, blitzer, big guy blocker, and overall work horse for your team. It is hard to express how valuable they are to Bretonnian teams in a quantifiable way. Id say you would have a 5-10% increased chance of losing that compounds with each Blitzer you lose. Losing a Blitzer is also not just to removal. As I said earlier, if you overextend a Blitzer and get him stuck in the backfield or on the other side of the pitch trapped by opponents, that is a removal. (You should always view it this way). I have over-extended my Blitzers multiple times, it has always cost me the drive. (Recency bias be damned)
- Your Blitzers will consume all of your teams SPP. In Warhammer lore the questing knight is consumed with dreams of glory and honor and is full of pomp and swagger. This is true of Bloodbowl Blitzers too. Try to balance out SPP gain if you can, but eventually your true star player will emerge. And one day nuffle will take him from you. Below I talk about leveling the Blitzer. You can specialize them if you want.
- Far more important than taking blocks with them, or taking marks, is making sure they are highly mobile and in the game. They should be positioned in spaces that allow the Blitzer to always have an impact on the game, be it a key block or a blitz on the ball carrier, or even acting caustiously and dropping back into a safety role. If your Blitzer is marked on an opposing player and he does not have a 2 die block, or he is not supporting another block, he is out of position. With dodge, you can escape more reliably, but until then, Dodge actions are high risk maneuvers for Bretonnian teams. Do not let your Blitzer be caught. If they lock you up, they are playing you well. (As you all are probably aware, you will certainly fail that dodge re-roll that you needed to pass. Im pretty sure its in the source code of the game. )
- It is imperative that you always put your Blitzer in a position where he can be supported, or he can withdraw into protection. There may be times where you feel you have access to a wing that allows you to deep blitz your Blitzer behind their lines. This is almost always a trap. (Unless its not ). Do not run a single unprotected blitzer behind lines to threaten the ball unless it’s a meaningful threat. Do not move a blitzer into a zone where he is going to receive a 2 die standing block immediately next turn. Be selective about this. They are AV 8 so they are relatively durable, and they will get dodge after a few games making them durable, but you really cannot afford to lose a Blitzer. That should be seared into your mind.
- Dauntless is the most fun skill in the game. Who cares if its not as efficient as 4 str. It kicks ass and you should always expect to succeed a Dauntless check. (Provided you have block support. Don’t throw a dauntless block on a 6 str player by yourself). You effectively have 4-5 Str with Blitzers. Not on defense, but as we said earlier, you wont need to worry about that if you play them right. Your Blitzers are confident, swagged out, glory hogs. You know they would never doubt that Dauntless check, you shouldn't either.
- Catch is a mostly useless skill, until its not. And boy oh boy is it impactful when you utilize it. Catch unlocks the Blitzer handoff. Unlock some elf bullshit on your team by properly spacing blitzers and initiating a handoff. You can cover 18 squares in a turn. A point of order, always hand-off, never throw. Don’t rush your blitzer into the endzone in hopes of catching a pass. Hand off the ball first then run into the endzone.
- Blitzers are excellent Safeties. If youre line is breaking down, pull a blitzer back 3-4 squares. His MA lets him get back if you need him too. When in doubt, pull back into safety position.
- Blitzers are not great against dodge teams or stunty. You will just push them around. When blitzing dodge ball carriers, use a blocker.
- Powing a troll, or a mummy, or an opponents big guy is extremely useful. Don’t forget you have dauntless. (Worth restating)
- I rarely see players do this, but don’t forget you can blitz with the ball carrier. Blitzers can handle themselves. If you need to create separation from a mark, blitz the opposing player, and move away. Remember you cannot throw or hand off after a blitz.
- Take Block / Wrestle blocks first, before unskilled blocks.
Blocker
- These guys are the squires to your questing knights (blitzers). What do squires do? They support the knights. That’s what Blockers will mostly be doing. You will really start cooking when you get 3-4 guard on them. Blockers should always be kept free if possible, and then moved into a position to support a two die block. If you can avoid marking a player to keep freedom of movement, that will often serve you better. Blockers are like NFL Guards. Pull them and force open a lane on a wing with their support. Here is some Terron Armstead highlights to inspire your pulling and blocking ideas..
- They are Strength tree level ups, which means you will instinctively want to pow with them. Mighty Blow is right there! You need to grab it. Temper that urge. These guys primary use is supporting blocks. A one die block with them is not nearly as useful as setting the edge of a wing, or forward securing a running lane, or providing their support to essential blocks that open lanes. Additional level ups should focus on improving their ability to set an edge or form a line or a screen or support a block. Something like stand firm to control pitch, or Grab to move an opponent into an ideal tackle zone. Or even Fend, the thematic skill of Bretonnia. (More in level up guide below)
- 8 Armor is serviceable. After your first few games which had more lineman, when you have a full roster of Blitzers and Blockers your survivability will increase dramatically. You should no longer be experiencing 2-4 removals once your Blocker depth chart is filled. If you get the chance to Armor up, id highly consider it. You can plant your guard armor up on the line and hes a black orc.
- If your opponents ball carrier is a dodge/stunty, your blockers shift priority. Wrestle counters dodge and block. Blockers should be used for agi team ball carrier blitzes. It might also be worth keeping a blocker safety in these cases. They arent as fast as Blitzers, so just keep that in mind.
- That one die block with wrestle is overall somewhat safe. I regularly skull re-roll into skull, but it is what it is. If you need to take it, take it.
- General Advice: Take Block / Wrestle blocks first, before unskilled blocks.
Lineman: - The lowly Peasant. Only 40k Price Point. My initial thought was man these guys suck ass. That was 10 games ago. These are actually extremely useful positionals. Yes they are low armor. Yes they have 2 agility. But Fend is a skill that no-one thinks to take, but I promise it will frustrate your opponent. Lineman are great for cages. They are great for forward securing a running lane. They are great on the line of an initial turn 1 drive. If they survive the block, they will be free to move afterwards and you can begin setting your edge or building a screen.
- One tip I find regularly is to use lineman as foulers. 40k is often a great trade for an opposing player if a foul can remove a piece or stun them. (A stun is a 1 turn removal). If youre of the fouling disposition, keep a lineman as a linebacker with free movement and use a foul at the end of your turn. (Foul all ghouls on site). I personally did not make them foulers, I tend to prefer a mark or block support.
- I provided level up guides below, but honestly, I imagine each bretonnian player uses lineman differently. Be explorative with them.
- I love using lineman to forward block segments of the pitch I want to run to. If the opponent left a wing open that you can exploit, send a lineman up there and secure 9 spaces of tackle zones for your team. If they blitz the lineman, fend will stop them and you will still have the pitch area to your self.
- Under no circumstances use a lineman as a ball carrier, receiver, or blitzer for essential blocks unless you must. They are called peasants in tabletop. Peasants cant handle that responsibility.
- I keep 1-2 extra lineman in reserve on my roster. I remove them if I need to lower petty cash for opponent. Its easy to buy them back. Having full 11 man roster is worth it, even if they arent especially skilled.
- A 40k peasant marking a valuable opponent piece on the edge of a map is an extremely efficient piece trade. If an opponent deep line blitzed you or sent a lone player down a lane, mark it with a lineman in the best way possible. If you can keep that player there multiple turns, you are winning the efficiency battle.
Starting Roster – 1000 TV I couldn't find a consensus Bretonnian starting Roster. This is what I used for my team and in my ladder games. Naturally YMMV. It uses full 1000 TV. Unfortunately, you will need to endure 1-2 games without an Apothecary. Hopefully you don't lose a Blitzer. Personally, I would not do less than 3 re-rolls, especially starting out. You will need to dodge more than you like and you will likely have to take 1 die blocks more than you'd like. At one point I had failed 6 straight dodge attempts with my ball carrier in 4 games. I've rolled one-dies into skulls more than I can count. You want re-rolls. There is an argument for buying the Apothecary and taking 3 blitzers but truthfully you want a full depth chart of blitzers immediately. I either lost or tied a majority of my games season 1 and led the league in casualty differential. Id expect that is common.
- 4 Blitzers
- 2 Blockers
- 5 Linemen
- 3 Re-Rolls
- 1 Fan Factor
- No Apothecary
Some stream of consciousness thoughts on how to play your first 2-5 games: - You want to purchase all the Blitzers you can at the first TV 1000 setup. The Blitzers are the most essential piece. You can make due with 2 blockers and 5 lineman for your first game or two. Your first game has the potential to be expensive if nuffle blesses you with an injured/killed blitzer. If that’s what happens, it was Nuffles will.
- With 5 lineman you will be quite fragile. Mighty Blow teams like Undead with the Mummy will cause a casualty on most pows. Expect to lose 2-4 players on average. If you are confident in your screening, offense first might be ideal. You will get more resilient as you build your roster, these first games are tough.
- Remember not to isolate your Blitzers or leave them in a position to be blocked. If you lose a Blitzer with this starting roster, or even get him trapped on the wrong side of the pitch marked, your team will lose significant effectiveness. (cannot be understated) If you are questioning if your move will leave you in a position that has a likely chance of impacting your Blitzer, you should opt for the more conservative approach. (I.e. There is nothing wrong with moving a Blitzer back as a safety instead of getting him in a scrum.) Blitzers have 7 MA, so they can reliably swing to each side of the pitch if needed. When you take your blitz, if there’s an opportunity to move back and hide behind a screen, you should do so.
- For teams with ball carriers with dodge or block, do not forget the value of Wrestle. Normally you wont be blitzing with blockers, however, if you need to sack a ball carrier with block or dodge, it is better to blitz with wrestle.
- In this starting roster you only have 2 blockers. These players are actually extremely valuable. They don’t have guard yet, but they are the only players outside of blitzers that have a safe block (both down doesn’t result in turnover). They also have more armor than lineman. Keep them center pitch, keep them in positions where they can move into a 2 die support. Try to get them in a position where they can take a standing two die block. You want these guys leveling up as soon as you can so you can start getting guard.
- Lineman are effective cages/screens due to fend. Two lineman on a cage that is along the sideline will reliably protect the ball carrier. Feel confident in moving a lineman into an open pitch area to secure a running lane. If they cant support a two die block, they should be in a screen position. Do not put them in a scrum unless the mark is benefiting the block. (e.g. if you move into a square with two adjacent opponents, recognize that you aren’t adding any value).
- A proper screen is two squares away from another player. Two lineman two squares apart protect 18 squares just between those two, and with fend you can reliably put them in positions without support. A lineman is extremely valuable despite its price point. Start thinking in tackle zones and you will exploit their strength.
- In these starting games you will often be in a position to throw a 2 die block without wrestle/block. This is actually riskier than you think. If there is an essential block that needs to happen for your move to work, throw that block before you use your re-roll. Always take blocks with players with block/wrestle before unskilled blocks.
- A free lineman can be an efficient use of a foul. At 40k price they should be cheaper than all players on pitch. If there is a ghoul in your back line, or a wardancer that failed a leap, a 72% chance foul could be extremely valuable. Just be sure its your last move.
- On offense, be aware of your Blitzers positioning. In the event you need it, the bretonnian handoff is a great play that can result in 18 squares of movement if you need it. If you push your blitzer ball carrier up a wing, and your opponent reacts well enough that you are doubtful of your lane, do not hesitate to move backwards. If you can keep a blitzer within 7 squares of your ball carrier, they are a reliable dump off escape. This is the reason the catchers have catch.
- Cannot be overstated – Blitzers are life.
- On defense, despite being built as a bashy team, they should be played like elves. Endeavor to keep 1 square distance between you and your opponent. If you can keep your opponent to one block per turn (blitz) you are playing efficiently.
- Dauntless is one of the most fun skills in the game. Blitzers with dauntless can reliably take down 4-5 str opponents with only one supporting player on the block. It is ok to use re-rolls on dauntless. When playing an undead team you can make their mummy’s lives hell all game. You will reliably succeed on a dauntless role against 4 str opponents. With one support that is a two die block. Dauntless is offense only. Do not forget that.
- When you are attempting a dodge, take a deep breath and look at your field. Did you pick up everyone? Have you taken all wrestle/block 2 die blocks? Are your running lanes secured? Do you have a safety that can hit the left or right wing reliably? Are your blitzers in a good position? Have you taken all low risk moves? If yes to all this, attempt the dodge (it will fail all the time lmao) This is good advice for all risky moves actually.
Building up the roster Level Up Guide Some thoughts on leveling your roster. These aren’t for sure the best choices, they are what I did or have been thinking about.
Blitzer - All blitzers should get dodge as their first skill.
- Sidestep on your ball carrier is such a badass skill. Sidelines are now safe. You can protect your ball carrier with a 2 person cage on a sideline with sidestep.
- I put Sure Hands on my primary ball carrier. Dodge and Sure Hands make contested free balls a tasty opportunity to capitalize on.
- You should specialize your blitzers if you can. Ball Carry Specialization, Blitz Specialization, Ball-Carrier Attack Specialization, Safety / Deep Blitzing Specialization. These are all possibilities. (I haven’t gotten past level 4 on my main blitzer, these are untested and just thoughts)
- Ball Carry: Dodge, Sidestep, Sure Hands
- Blitz: Dodge, Frenzy, Tackle, Jump Up
- Safety: Dodge, Diving Tackle/Tackle, Sure Feet, Jump Up/Sprint
- Ball Carrier Attack: Dodge, Sidestep, Tackle, Strip Ball
- Theres also nothing wrong with 2-3 blitzers with dodge and tackle. Bread and butter wins games. All depends on your league.
- If you roll doubles or get a characteristic up you should prioritize: Str+, MA+, Mighty Blow (on blitz specialty). I have seen piling on but I don’t like the thought of putting a blitzer on the ground willingly.
Blocker: - a. Blocker Standard: Guard, Stand Firm / Grab / Fend / Dauntless. For the second skill it just your preference – do you prefer pitch control or blocking.
- i. I would probably go Guard, Dauntless, Fend but I have not tested.
- ii. For Doubles, etc: Str+, Ar+, Dodge
- b. All blockers first skill should be Guard.
Lineman - a. There are a lot of things you can do with linman if youre lucky with an MVP or injury. There is no standard choice, with lineman you should kinda go with your gut.
- b. If you use your lineman to foul, pick up sneaky git or dirty player, whichever your preference (just be sure you are using it!).
- c. I personally went with Kick/Wrestle on one, and Block on another. The block has been useful for pows.
- d. Kick is sneaky useful, however, it throws off standard defense formations as you need your lineman off the line and not in a wing. This makes you place a blocker on the line, a high risk block unfortunately. Overall I think the tradeoff has been worth it in my season. If you hit lvl 3 on a lineman, you have been playing a while and idk, do what you think is best.
Managing Team and Roster Game 1 and onwards - First purchase is Apothecary. Scrutanize its use carefully. Never use it on a lineman. Rarely use it on a blocker (I had to apo my guard blocker cause he would have lost an armor. That is an acceptable apo). Apothecary’s should be used on Blitzers. I think its safe to use it even if no permanent injury to keep your team at 4 blitzers per match. You of course risk losing another blitzer at another point in game, but that’s nuffle’s will. You also risk the re-roll into death which has happened in our league twice in 5 seasons.
- Prioritize recruitment of blockers. You want to fully fill the team with blockers.
- * I sift between a bench of 1-2 lineman extra. I will sell it against a non-bash team to reduce TV, or I will buy an extra against Bashy teams expecting removals. I have only needed more than 2 reserves one time. It adds 80k TV to have two which are babes or a re-roll or wizard if your opponent dips into his treasury. 2 reserves feels good for TV 1000-1600 (I am 1640)
- TV Management is tough for Bretonnian teams. I personally purchased a 4th re-roll for 140k. I like re-rolls. You can make do with 3. I wouldn’t do less than that. You should be mitigating petty cash to your opponent at all times.
- Keep a reserve of 80-150k at all times. Nuffle will one day take from you a beloved blitzer. You need to replace it by the next game.
- I haven’t upgraded my stadium. Idk if its worth 200k investment.
- I don’t really see benefit of cheerleaders or coaching staff. If anyone can claim otherwise, please comment.
Final Thoughts: - I have played multiple seasons of Wood Elves and Bretonnian. I find Bretonnian more satisfying. Their player noises are hilarious. Their aesthetic is badass (The blitzers have full body length tassels from their helmets).
- Their playstyle is not straight forward and is rewarding if you execute.
- The team is not the highest tier, it doesn’t take advantage of game mechanics or feel cheap.
- Opponents never feel like they are in an unfair game or that im overpowered.
- Bretonnian don’t get many injuries or player removals, but the offset of that is my opponents are always in a good mood throughout the game. (Usually)
- Dauntless is the most satisfying skill in the game.
- Their offensive scheme of Rushing Attack Screens scratches all my NFL itches. True blocking and tackling and running. It feels great when you forward think a move that leads to a running lane you can exploit.
- Don’t read into internet hate on the team. Its not really that bad.
- These are just my opinions and shouldnt be taken as gospel. I havent won my league championship yet, so what do I know. It was just an attempt to put a guide out there since there arent many.**
TL:DR: Bretonnian are a challenging and satisfying blood bowl team that utilizes a screen and pitch control focused running scheme on offense. On defense, the team focuses on defensive screens, positioning, and pitch control. If you like having Glory Hog Star Players, a Crusade Era Aesthetic, Taking down opponents much bigger than you, and playing smash mouth football, this team might be for you.
This is not a straight forward pow team. Its not an agility team. Its in between. Additionally, they might not be beginner friendly as they require extensive understanding of tackle zones and block support.
On Offense, This team will have trouble winning if they resort to traditional 4 man cage offensive scheme, like Khemri or Orcs, as they do not have the means of standing toe to toe with true bash teams, despite how much they want to. Despite no passing threat, Bretonnian Coaches can employ electric hand off plays to cover a vast amount of pitch in a single turn that can result in scoring plays worthy of a highlight reel to be talked about by your league mates.
On Defense, This team achieves winning results if they employ a patient screen and pitch control defensive scheme. Bretonnian rosters must work in tandem with each other to lock up running/passing lanes and restrict opponent movement in hopes of getting them to make a mistake or leave an opening. When an opening is identified, Bretonnian teams can plunge their Blitzers into opponents cage or back fields and wreak havoc.
Personally, I find them to be extremely fun and suggest you ignore the internet hate (perhaps hate is strong) and give em a shot. It will take a few games to get acclimated, but I imagine they will grow on you quickly.
Thank you for reading! Thank you for reading, if you got this far. This was my first attempt at making a team guide. I hoped to both educate newcomer players on the team tactics and inspire discussion about a team that I have some trouble finding forum discussion on. I know BB2 is not current rn, but it runs great and having all the teams really sells it. Personally I think the UI is better in 2 also, but perhaps I am just used to it.
Would love to hear your thoughts if you have any, or helpful criticisms. Hopefully I was able to communicate effectively here and help some newcomers out.

2024.05.10 18:03 Glacialfury A Soldier’s Regret
The battle for the Starcarrier was brief but fierce, and the floors were drenched in blood.
Scorch marks marred the floors, the ceilings, the walls. The thick durasteel bulkheads were stained with chalky streaks of black and red and bits of bone, and where small fires had sprung up, eerie shadows writhed in the hellish glow. Most of the heavy fighting had long since died off, but the occasional eruption of muffled shouts and pulse rifle chatter came to Mat as distant, hollow things—a dirge of death that echoed down the halls.
He stumbled through darkened corridors and debris-strewn cabins, Nova rifle scraping behind him in a grip weakened by blood loss, drifting past corpses he once called friends. Bodies blocked half-closed doors and cramped halls, some missing limbs or eyes, or even their heads. And for a time, he searched without thought, aimless, a wounded beast maddened by pain and loss, driven by some primal instinct to seek out those who had attacked his ship and killed his friends. They must die…All of them…Die…Pay for what they've done. His thoughts were fractured, scattered, slow to react.
Then the stims kicked in, a sudden, intense electric rush along his veins that cleared the fog from his mind and filled his limbs with terrible strength. His limp vanished, wounds closed, and the rifle came up. He was running again, eyes burning with the promise of death, an implacable foe who knew only an unquenchable thirst for vengeance. And he hunted.
On and on he went, a nightmare in the killing fields of the ship, methodically hunting his prey, reveling in their dying screeches, remorseless and relentless, unstoppable.
He killed without mercy and without hesitation, time and enemies fading into an indistinct blur of blood and screams and death. Death. The dead lay everywhere! All across the carrier, he saw faces he knew, faces of friends and people he loved, dear companions through the long years of war. Torn and broken they were, bodies scattered across vast flight bays and control rooms, mess halls and barracks wings, blank eyes staring blindly. It fed a white-hot fury kindling in his chest until he was sure it must explode. Until he was sure he could hear his sweat sizzling on his face.
Despair. Rage.
From small side rooms to the large bridge deck and everywhere between, toppled furniture lay broken and scattered, charred debris littered the floors, and broken glass crunched under his boots. Everywhere he looked, his eyes found the dead, friends and foes alike, piles of mangled corpses, some still leaking delicate ribbons from wounds smoking with rising heat. They fell in twisted piles throughout a maze of steel and winding corridors cloaked in flickering darkness. Entire platoons lay where they had fallen. Or groups of twos or threes, or even single forms, struck down in attempted flight, faces frozen in the horror.
Then there were the Squids.
A seemingly unending horde of enemy shock troops that fell upon unsuspecting human outposts, slaughtering all in sight. Tall they were and gangly, with long limbs and large bulbous heads covered in writhing tentacles, oblong like a squid. Six Jasper green eyes, slit vertically down the center like a cat’s, arced evenly under a prominent brow ridge. They had no nose, no mouth, only a smooth, flat face of black flesh mottled with dark green splotches. For all their strange appearance, their armor was stranger still, thin, and translucent, a glassy material that shifted through a near-infinite spectrum of colors.
They brought war. Humanity answered them.
This was the deadliest battle Mat had seen since the start of the Squid invasion, a confused and chaotic jumble of screams, explosions, and death. What few lights survived the chaos, whether overhead strips or overturned lamps, flickered and throbbed in random places, went dark for a moment, then surged back to life brighter than ever to begin the cycle anew. Everywhere he went the air was smoky and reeked of burnt hair and blistered flesh, a stinging haze that clawed at his lungs. Odd sounds came to him from the flickering shadows: the creaking groan of shifting bulkheads, the echo of water dripping in the distance, moans of despair from the dying, and the hiss and snap of electrical surges that sent fountains of sparks leaping out to die in the darkness. It was unearthly quiet, spine-tingling, a quality that stirred the hairs on the back of his neck and kept his heart filled with dread.
Never stopping for more than a heartbeat, he found himself creeping through compartments and cabins, bunk rooms, and engineering wings on the fringes of the carrier, even the titanic engine core, almost a quarter-mile in length, half as wide and littered with blackened slag and support beams hanging from the ceiling. He killed where he found enemies, pausing to mouth a solemn prayer over fallen allies. Everything around him took on the aspect of a surrealistic painting, all indistinct contours, and undefined edges, an abstract raving from the mind of a madman—a house of horrors.
But he refused to surrender, he would not fall into despair; he would go on to the end.
Memory stirred.
He remembered the frantic voices of ops officers suddenly screaming over the comm that something strange was happening around the Starcarrier. Bizarre readings and impossible fluctuations had their sensors going awry. One moment there was only the endless black of the Barren Stretch around Echo Point, then the darkness rippled, shimmered, and their world descended into the darkest of nightmares. Squid warships materialized as if from nowhere, all sleek black planes and sharp angles, predatory in appearance and bristling with weapons. Echo Fleet battled them in the emptiness of space, a fierce fight to be sure, but the Squid vessels numbered in the hundreds. For over an hour they held off the Squids, until a hole opened in their shielding, allowing the hordes to blast their way into the Starcarrier.
Mat and his Marines met them with rifles blazing.
It was a frantic battle of adrenaline and fear, running and gunning across the ship. He watched his best friend Annikka throw herself on an enemy inferno wafer to shield her squad from the blast; watched in horror as the explosion reduced her to a blackened, smoldering skeleton before his eyes. So he could live.
Her scream echoed in his thoughts. Courage beyond measure. No time to mourn. Only anger. Only the battle. Only the near-endless enemy horde. Sowly his company of marines were whittled away until only Mat remained—a wolf hunting in a warren of rats.
•••
Mat studied the cargo hold from a wide platform just inside its entrance. Or rather, he stared beyond it. His thoughts were elsewhere.
His wounds smelled of antiseptic medigel, a faint clinical odor that registered somewhere in the back of his thoughts. It helped dull the throbbing pain to a vague itch, a maddening itch in truth, one that crawled and slithered beneath his skin where no amount of scratching could relieve it. With all of Fleet’s advancements, you’d think they could have done something about that itch.
His Nova rifle rested on his shoulder, thin wisps of smoke trailing up from its barrel, and his right boot rested on an enemy soldier's chest. Several large holes smoldered between the Squid's four breasts, the air above them dancing with fiery motes. The expression frozen on the creature’s face was one of stunned disbelief. The expression on Mat’s face was troubled.
Questions circled in his mind.
Questions for which he could find no answers. Such as: how had the Squids found Echo Fleet out here in the Barren Stretch parsecs from anywhere with a semblance of civilization? Where had they come from? None of Echo Fleet’s sensors had detected the approaching enemy until they had attacked. How? The whole shittin affair stank of a rat, one he meant to ferret out if he lived long enough to see it done.
Yet he knew it went deeper than ship level. He was sure of it. There was no question in Mat’s mind that someone in the halls of power at Fleet had sold them out. It was the only thing that made sense. But why? What could they possibly hope to gain? The Squids did not negotiate. They did not show pity or remorse or restraint. They killed indiscriminately and never took prisoners. And they never broke their silence.
A few of the eccentrics back in the Sol system had a theory that was gaining traction. They believed the Squids looked at humanity as cattle and they were simply harvesting what the universe had provided. That's why no bodies were ever found. A strange notion that, both appalling and infuriating, considering the countless worlds teeming with myriad animal life ripe for the taking and without the brutal costs of war.
No, Mat was sure it had to be something else.
So what could the betrayer back at Fleet, whoever that might be, hope to gain by throwing themselves in with the Squids? A one-way trip to the final chill if Mat had his way. Still, they wanted something. What was it? To weaken Fleet? To destroy a political rival? What was their endgame? A look of utter disgust twisted down his mouth and he spit on the cold steel floor grating. Money and power. It always comes back to that. Greed.
A flicker of movement caught his eye.
Heart hammering against his ribs, Mat raced to the end of the corridor, rounded it, and dropped to one knee, rifle snapping up for the kill. A vague armored form vanished into the ship’s command and control center at the far end of the hall.
Shit! I have to stop them! He sprinted toward the room.
Every ship in Fleet had a room just like it. The heavily shielded chamber housed vast computer banks and neural network arrays, holo readouts, and a million pulsing thrumming lights, the brains that drove the Starcarrier. But more importantly, hidden within that room was an encrypted transponder case complete with its own power source and comm array that held the Fleet access codes issued to each ship. Those codes kept the vast defense networks guarding humanity’s borders from mistaking an approaching friendly for enemy ships and turning them into glittering space dust. Only the captain and first officer ever put eyes on those codes. If the enemy managed to get their hands on a transponder they could penetrate human defenses; they could move unchallenged toward the inner worlds! Not while I'm breathing, Mat scowled, and he unconsciously bared his teeth, hustling up to the edge of the control room’s entrance. Heart thundering in his ears, mouth dry as a sun-bleached bone, he shot a quick glance inside. Shock rocked him back on his heels.
“Commander, Dollard?”
A tall woman working the controls of the master holo terminal whirled to face him, an ugly snarl twisting her features. Her Blaze pistol came up for the kill. Mat dived outside ahead of a hail of heat rounds that put glowing holes in the doorway’s frame.
“Hold fire, Commander! Hold fire,” he shouted and was surprised at how calm his voice sounded. “It's Lieutenant Kostek, sir. Marines, Bravo company.”
“Kostek?” A moment of silence followed. “Show me your cube, Kostek. Nice and slow, hear? Unless you want new holes stamped into your face.”
Mat took a deep breath. Stay cool. It's cool. A vision of heat rounds leaving his face a perforated, smoking ruin did little to calm his frayed nerves. Slowly he stepped into the open with his hands out wide, rifle barrel pointing at the ceiling. His free hand dug for his Fleet cube and he tossed it at the wary commander’s feet.
Without taking her eyes, or her pistol, off him, she sank down and snatched up the cube, a small thing of a size with a large marble. Rising she pinched its sides and a three-dimensional holographic image sprang to life in the air, slowly revolving. It was a detailed bust of Mat with all his relevant information scrolling to one side, height and weight, eye color, where he was born, his complete service record, achievements and medals, everything since the day he was born.
Her steely eyes studied the life-like image, scanning the words, darting to Mat then back. After a few tense moments in which Mat wasn't sure whether she would try to kill him again or not, she visibly relaxed, straightened, and lowered her pistol.
“Why are you here, lieutenant?” Her voice was a hoarse rasp like dry leaves rustling over old leather, but her eyes were hard as black gemstones. They watched him closely. “I thought everyone was dead. The Squids are everywhere. Cost me two companies of the navy’s finest to get here.”
Mat nodded. He understood completely. “Same here, commander. I'm all that's left of my company and the Squids keep coming.” He’d killed so many that he lost count after a hundred. That was hours ago. He started to ask for a sitrep, but the words dried in his throat.
Something was wrong.
The commander was acting strange, all fidgety, eyes shifting to the side as if drawn to something behind her. He kept his face smooth, but his instincts were screaming, and his trigger finger itching. She’d asked why he was here, now he wondered the same of her. What was she doing at that terminal when he first arrived? It was an effort to keep his voice cool. His fingers tightened on his rifle’s grip. Was she the betrayer? Was that why she fired at him? It could be? Maybe.
“Where is the captain?” he asked, ready to swing his rifle up and blast her into the next life. “Is Fleet sending reinforcements?” He watched for even the barest twitch of a lip, the slightest lifting of a brow when he mentioned Fleet. Nothing. The woman was carved from stone.
“Captain Tressk is dead.” She grimaced at the truth. “Cut down by the Squids. Blown out into the final chill along with the last of our troops when a bulkhead lost containment. I barely survived.” She spit on the deck to emphasize her disgust. “That was an hour ago. You're the first friendly I've seen since.” She looked at him sharply as if just remembering something. “You never answered my question. Why are you here?”
“I could ask the same of you, commander.” His voice was venomous and he didn't bother to hide it. Only the slightest whisper of doubt kept him from killing her. “What were you doing when I walked in?”
Confusion shadowed her face. Then anger. “Carrying out the captain’s final instructions and my duty as first officer.” She lifted her chin like a haughty queen from centuries past. “That is what I was doing, lieutenant. Not that it's any concern of yours.” She jerked her head toward the starboard bulkhead. “As for your reinforcements, they're not coming. There is a Squid battle group out there. They have us surrounded. Every other ship in Echo Fleet has been reduced to clouds of drifting debris. We are surrounded, hopelessly outnumbered, most of the crew are dead. There’s no escape. No hope.” She stopped for a moment and her eyes bore into him. “If you’re here to stop me you’re too late.”
Mat thought he saw a brief flicker of misery darken her features, but when he looked again she was stone. Stop her from what? He was about to ask her just that and how she had miraculously managed to escape the hull breach when something behind her caught his eye.
The holo screen was counting down: Thirty-three seconds, thirty-two, and so on.
“What the hell is that?” he demanded, pointing his rifle at the holo screen as they locked eyes. Thirty.
The commander drew herself up. The hand holding her pistol twitched. “I’ve activated the ship’s self-destruct sequence, lieutenant.” Her voice was flat, resigned, and emotionless. “It's the final protocol in the event a capital ship might fall into enemy hands. We are alone. Fleet is not coming. Our comms were damaged before a message could be sent. Couldn’t be done remotely either.”
Twenty-five.
Her dark eyes studied him for a moment, then seemed to soften. “The escape system experienced catastrophic damage, too. We were fucked from the start.”
Twenty…
His first reaction, through the shock and rising anger, was to demand she stop that shit right fucking now! Who the hell did she think she was to decide this for the both of them? Breathe, breathe. Then rational thought took over, the red haze lifted from his eyes, and he understood the necessity. He didn't like it, hated it, hated her and the Squids and the whole God damn war. But he understood the necessity of what she had done. It was even poetic in a way. A blaze of glory like in the old texts. A blaze like a small supernova that would annihilate the surrounding Squid fleet. It was brilliant. He hated her for it.
Fifteen…
Duty, honor; they were heavy as a mountain. Eirene, my love. Regret weighed down his heart like an anchor. I’m a soldier. Soldiers die. A heartbeat later he accepted his fate with a grudging nod.
“Well,” he said. “I can’t think of a better fuck you to all the squids out there than riding the supernova that sends them to hell.”
“Indeed.” Her stony face finally cracked, a crooked smile that tugged up at one side of her mouth. Moisture glistened in her eyes. “Fitting justice that we drag them to hell with us, yes? Though small consolation.”
Mat said nothing.
Justice, he thought with more than a little bitterness. There was no fucking justice here. Else why was he about to die on a ship surrounded by a bunch of fucking Squids in the middle of the barren stretch? Instead of at home in his bed beside his wife at the ripe old age of a hundred and fifty? No, there was no justice. Justice had forsaken them long ago. I'm a soldier.
Mat’s rifle clattered on the steel floor. So this is how it ends? Fuck.
Ten…
Nine…
Commander Dollard was watching him. “I'm sorry lieutenant.” She looked away as a tear broke free and rolled down her cheek.
He waved her words away. It didn't matter. This wasn't her fault. She didn't want to be here anymore than he did, maybe less.
Mat fell back against the cold steel wall, swallowing hard, pulling off his helmet, and fighting down the nauseating terror that had seized his heart. He was going to die. He was a soldier. He was going to die.
Courage, Mat. Courage. There was no stopping it, there was no denying it. In a few moments, his story would end here in this barren stretch of no-name space. And for what? He’d always thought his death would come suddenly in some battle without time for fear or regret. But standing here now, watching the agonizing countdown to his demise, utterly flogged him. The universe and all its countless masses would go on without Mat Fortis. He tried to imagine not being here. Would anyone notice their absence? Would they care?
Sudden panic gripped his chest, hot and sharp, followed by impotent rage at the injustice of it all. Fear. Terrible fear like a black mist swirling in his heart. He was a soldier. I'm a soldier. Everyone dies.
His only regret was that he would never see his beloved wife again.
Eirene, my love, my life. Would that things could be different. I want so badly to see your face. To taste your lips. Breathe in the scent of your hair, of you. Lay with your head on my chest while we doze in the sunlight. One last goodbye... my friend, my wife. I'll love you forever.
He fixed an image of Eirene’s smiling face in his mind, a radiant memory from his last rotation home. They were on a sun-drenched beach in Baia Do Sancho. Gulls cried and wheeled overhead in a crystalline sky and the ocean purred in the background. Her eyes were luminous blue in the sunlight, like flawless gems of infinite facets full of love and dancing with laughter, gloriously alive. Golden tresses framed the delicate curves of her face in lustrous waves spilling past her shoulders and down her back. The sunshine glittered there. She whispered I love you and he smiled.
Mat clung to that memory as though it were a life preserver and he was a man tossed about in a thrashing sea.
Five…
He pulled out a pack of NicStiks, shook one out, and fired it up, pulling deeply on the smoke until the coal glowed brilliant scarlet.
“Wife made me quit years ago. Always kept a pack just in case. Y’know?”
The commander nodded. “She will forgive you this one I think.” A sudden laugh burst through her tears.
Three…
“But those things will kill you.”
Two…
Mat laughed and tears stained his cheeks. “Yea,” he said and took another long drag on the smoke, tilting his back against the wall and closing his eyes, savoring the pleasant burn in his lungs. “But who wants to live forever?”
One...
His last thought before a blinding flash of heat carried him into darkness, was his wife’s name.
Eirene.

Wifi adapter not recognised ubuntu 20.04 intel wifi 6 ax203
Hello everyone, I recently received a gift from my parents. It's the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G6 IRL. I would like to do some ROS projects on it, but the wifi adapter does not work (Intel WiFi 6 AX203). I tried upgrading to version 22.04, and the wifi adapter worked on it. However, I encountered issues running ROS, so I had to revert back to Ubuntu 20.04.
Here are a few things that I have tried
I haw unable to find any drivers for this specific network card:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005511/wireless.html https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi None of the below mentioned code snippets worked.
1
``` wget
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pimlie/ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh/masteubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh chmod a+x ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh sudo ./ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh
2024.05.10 07:14 shrugir Air Ticket Booking System
| Air Ticket Booking System Streamlined Air Ticket Booking System [An ]() Air Ticket Booking System is a software application designed to automate the process of booking and managing airline tickets. It allows customers to search for and book flights, view flight schedules, and manage their reservations online. The software enables travel companies and OTA's to offer an online reservation system for their B2C and B2B businesses to connect with the multiple GDS APIs and LCC airlines for ticketing, which lets travel companies improve their operations and make them run more effortlessly. As you see, developing an air ticket booking solution provides ample opportunity to manage inventory, agent control, bookings, and ticket reservations all in one place and get the airline reservation made fast and easily. However, those who are airline ticketing booking system software providers are discovering top-level travel technological software to manage the flight booking process smoothly. Due to knowledgeable technological expansion, organizations are utilizing the airline ticketing booking process, where travelers can easily get that opportunity and make deals with web applications. How Does Air Ticket Booking System Work? Essentially, the airline ticketing system works through a systematic approach. Although there are three main processes, each system is subdivided. Let's see what the three major airline ticketing systems are. · Flight searching · Flight booking · Ticketing Flight Searching Three steps, such as Airline Website, OTA, and Meta search engine, can complete flight searching. Airline Website: The website sends a search request directly to the airline's CRS and then displays the list of available flights to the customer, skipping the whole GDS part. Online Travel Agencies: Online travel agencies (OTAs) get flight data from GDSs, air consolidators, which negotiate with carriers for bulk or net fares and then resell them to travel distributors and partner airlines. Meta-Search Engine: The meta-search engine is the most renowned online information retrieval tool that uses web search engine data to generate its own results. It works based on the user's intent. It means it takes information from the user input, searches the user query, and returns a result based on the user query. It is integrated with direct booking. Flight Booking Whenever you enter the air flight booking website, you must provide some crucial information to buy or reserve a ticket, such as personal information, booking charge, seat category, destination, departure airport, and many more. After completing the ticket booking, the traveler will receive a code by email, and this code can be used to track the flight status. Travelers are able to change itinerary details, cancel the trip, and much more. It means that if you have that code, you can do anything you want. Ticketing A ticketing system is a management tool that processes the traveler's request. In this case, both online travel agencies and airlines use third-party services that ensure data security and electronic transactions. Nowadays, travelers pay the flight booking charge after providing all the information that is required for the ticket booking field. If the payment is confirmed, the airline adds the corresponding fare information to the Passenger Name Record (PNR) document. Now travelers will receive the itinerary receipt by email, which is significant for successfully buying an e-ticket. So, you can download it and take it on any device. Why Do You Need an Air Ticket Booking System? As an automated system, it provides information such as real-time fares, seat availability, onboard services, etc. to travel agencies and passengers. Apart from ticket booking, the airline booking system helps airlines with customer management. It offers support right from the beginning to the end. The purpose of the airline booking system is to create a seamless and convenient booking experience for passengers while enabling airlines to handle their flights efficiently. We aim to deliver a platform that streamlines ticket reservations, flight management, and the overall travel experience. All the tickets are automatically produced by the system after booking. In fact, the ticket contains all the flight data, such as the names of airlines, locations, boarding time, seat, gate number, etc. The airline ticket booking system includes details on flight schedules and their rates, passenger reservations, and tickets. The inventory of an airline includes every airline and its available seats. This system provides options for viewing various flights available at different timings for a particular date and provides customers with the facility to book a ticket, modify, or cancel a specific reservation, but it does not provide the customers with details of the cost of the ticket. It comes with the latest features and functionalities of third-party supplier integration, GDS connectivity, inventory management, quotation management, b2b/b2c booking engine, one-way, round-trip, multi-city search option, reservation management, reporting, customer management, customized design and layout, multi-language, multi-currency, payment gateway integration, and more. It can also manage all the information about customers, booking inquiries, and reservations. Customers can view the status and schedule of a flight directly from the website. It also provides time-to-time current data related to airline schedules. It tracks all the details about the airline's booking and ticket booking. For the airline industry, it has to offer numerous benefits, such as the accuracy of the information, resolving customer grievances quickly and effectively, generating good revenue, multiplying surplus, building goodwill in the market for your brand, etc. And for the users as well, it offers benefits such as timely access to the relevant information at the right time, smooth and seamless connectivity, security of the money, time saving, comparison of the prices, ticketing software installation, ease in booking and getting discounted deals while booking tickets, and being able to compare the prices of several airline companies at once. Therefore, to seize the opportunities present in the air transport industry, having the best airline ticketing system on the market is a must. Therefore, you need professionals with extensive knowledge and powerful tools at their disposal by your side to help you set up a successful online air travel business. Overall, customizing the user experience and managing bookings are critical to the success of any airline booking system. By creating a user- friendly interface and managing the booking process effectively, you can provide customers with a seamless and convenient booking experience while also increasing revenue and building customer loyalty. There are specific instructions for MDR employees in the MDR orientation handbook. "Refining numbers is as easy as organizing them into bins"
The handbook also verifies the catagories within the bins represent the four emotions (dred, frolic, woe, malice). However, if you pay attention, you'll notice employees don't organize the numbers into the catagories of dred, frolic, woe or malice. They only organize the numbers into one of five bins. There are no instructions regarding which bin to choose. If it's the wrong bin, the numbers go back to the dataset.
If the numbers are moved into the right bin, the bin will then organize the numbers into one of the 4 catagories (woe, frolic, dread, malice); but the employee doesn't do that part. We're told the numbers are put in the right bin about 20% of the time. 1 out of 5 is 20%. There are 5 bins. They're just guessing which bin to put the numbers in and getting it right 20% of the time because that's the probability of getting it right when choosing from 5 bins.
In case i didnt explain that well, I'm eluding the employees are doing nothing except reorganizing numbers to keep themselves busy. There's no skill or hidden knowledge required to guess which bin the numbers go in. Why, though?
I'm down to two theories, and these theories may some how coexist:
1.) Family is a reoccurring theme. Kier mentions living through his employees in the original handbook. Maybe he meant litterally implanting a bit of himself in the chip implanted in the employees, or maybe it's a reference to living-on through one's children, genetically speaking. We know kier was a bit inbred, so maybe the Eagon obsession with family provokes extremes beyond our imagination.
Riding this theory, I've wondered if Ms Casey is Cobel's daughter. Maybe, she is some type of reincarnation of Cobel's mother. Mark's outie interacts with Cobel's outie, but never mentions her being his MIL. He treats her like a relative, though. Outie cobel hit on Mark once, LOL. That means they're unlikely in-laws; but then again, those Eagons keep it in the family! Dylan could be Milchek's son, which is why milchek was able to enter Dylan's house without his kids freaking out ("Grandpa's here!"). I'm 50/50 on the everyone-is-related theory.
Of course, Maybe Kier really wanted to insert a piece of himself in the minds of the entire world (the chip). Maybe every department is useless, only existing to convince users to get the Kier chip.
2.) The best way to make sure an employee keep their work top secret is to let them work without even knowing they're working. What if everything at Lumon is smoke and mirrors to distract everyone from the real work being done in outie mode?
Imagine youre a mob boss and need a valuable yet illegal package delivered. It would benifit you if the carrier forgot your name and location after delivery like the way the severed employees forget refining numbers; but everyone would be more likely to get away with transporting the product if the carrier has no idea they're carrying the package in the first place.
I'm not insinuating Lumon is moving drugs or anything along those lines. I don't know what they're upto. I'm questioning if maybe it's less about what they do and more about who they are. Its possible the "work" done in the lumon building is completely senseless, and season two will focus more on the outies. Ricken's book isn't that much different than the handbook afterall.
If the work is useless at Lumon, it's best the employees don't share or even understand that. This theory would explain why the offices are so empty. The equipment is old. Employees can walk around the building, hold hands and hang out for hours, and no one seems to care. We've never heard of anyone being fired for failing to refine properly.
In the outside world, though; mark is drowning in dispair. Helly is full of malice towards everyone including herself. Dylan frolics with his children. Irvin paints woefully and is paranoid of his employer. These 4 employees represent the 4 emotions, and those emotions may sneak their way into work. Maybe the orientation book describes said emotions so the team knows what's to expect from themselves and each other. There are 9 principles, and several other values that come in groups. Maybe, the 6 members in optics, represent a different set and so on
I haven't quite worked out all my thoughts, but I'm convinced the datasets aren't hidden codes nor anything to do with the chips. Peggy K, from the Lexington Letter was a bus driver before getting the job, and Mark a historian. Those skillsets are nothing alike, and niether of them have the emotional intelligence the handbook claims led to them being chosen for the job. They've given us enough clues to convince me the employees are chosen (and then manipulated into believing they chose the job on their own). Given they're chosen but don't have any type of special abilities, it's highly possible nepotism is the driving factor behind their hire.
