Hello!
Just wanted to post some highlights and stats from the recent conference regarding GLP-1 meds etc. This is general information - most supported by current clinical trials. I cannot verify any of the information as I am not the author. I went to a conference and found a lot of interesting stats so I jotted them down: These include Q & A pages for Dr's to give out to potential patients of zepbound etc. answering potential questions.
Note: Some of these are based on different versions of the meds because it wasn't a conference focused soley on Zepbound. But it gives overall information.
· Usually cause muscle loss with all current meds.
· Eli Lilly and Novo are both trying to figure out oral versions of the medications.
· There is currently a class action lawsuit by roughly 60 ppl regarding GI complications as a result of the medications. (Philadelphia)
Continued weight loss post 12 months – (Ozempic)
18% Weight Regain

Zepbound D/C Weight regain study:
473 women, 197 men. Mean age 48 years. Over 70 medical centers in 4 countries
335 received Zepbound, 335 Placebo - Primary outcome is that the mean percent change in weight from weeks 36 to 88.
At week 36 weight reduction was 20.9%
Findings:
At 88 weeks Zepbound loss – 89.5% of participants with Zebound at 88 weeks maintained at least 80% of the weight loss compared with 16.6% placebo.
(This does not include continued weight loss over time after D/C, only at a 88 week marker)
FDA Warnings and Precautions – Zepbound:
· Severe Gastrointestinal Disease
· Acute Kidney Injury
· Acute Gallbladder Disease

You should avoid combining Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and alcohol if you can. Alcohol can potentially worsen Mounjaro’s digestive side effects, such as nausea and vomiting. In rare cases it may aggravate or cause hypoglycemia. ๏

Can GLP‐1/GIP RA reduce my desire to drink and other addictive behaviors? ๏

Research is ongoing. Preliminary results suggest that there may be a desirable effect.

๏ Are compounding pharmacies breaking the law by selling compunded GLP‐1 medications?

๏ No, as there is a current shortage of these drugs. The FDA allows to compound equivalent medications in cases of storage.(* Not legal advice, see a professional if legal opinion is needed).

๏ How long will Ozempic take to work? (similar but specific information is available for other GLP‐1/GIP RA) ๏

When you first start Ozempic, you’ll inject a low dose for the first 4 weeks to help your body get used to the medication. This dose isn’t meant to have a significant effect on your blood glucose (sugar) levels. But some people may start to see some improvements during this time. ๏ It takes about 4 to 5 weeks to reach a steady level of Ozempic in your system. Full effects may not be seen until at least 8 weeks of treatment. If after 2-3 months your A1C isn’t at the target, your provider may increase the dose

What can I expect after I stop taking GLP‐1/GIP RA ? ๏

Most people will regain some or all weight they lost. However, cardiovascular benefits are more durable. ๏

Should I stop Ozempic and other long‐acting GLP‐1/GIP RA before surgery? ๏

Specifically for Ozempic the recommendation is to stop at least 1 week prior to a planned surgery.

๏ How long should I wait after the last dose if I am trying to conceive?

๏ If you want to become pregnant, you may need to stop taking Ozempic at least 2 months before trying to conceive so it is fully excreted. ๏

Can I flush Ozempic or other long‐acting GLP‐1/GIP RA from my body?

๏ No. And if side-effects are affecting you, you cannot remove these medications by “detox”, laxatives or hydration. ๏

Do GLP‐1/GIP RA cause termination of pregnancy or birth defects? ๏

These drugs have NOT been studied extensively during pregnancy in humans, so the potential risks aren’t fully known. But animal studies have shown a higher risk of pregnancy loss and birth defects with some of the GLP-1 drugs. ๏

Do GLP‐1/GIP RA cause depression and/or psychosis? ๏

While prescrbing information for some of these drugs mentions such side effects, they are rare and causal connection has not been established. Warnings about suicidal ideation are included in prescribing information for Saxenda and Wegovy. ๏

Can GLP‐1/GIP RA interfere with oral contrceptives? ๏

Prescribing information for Mounjaro warns that it may reduce the efficacy of oral hormonal contraceptives. Advise patients using oral hormonal contraceptives to switch to a non-oral contraceptive method, or add a barrier method of contraception for 4 weeks after initiation and for 4 weeks after each dose escalation with MOUNJARO. No such warning is provided for Ozempic/Wegovy and Saxenda ๏

I have migraines with aura, and I also get tension headaches. I also suffer from CVS AKA cyclic vomiting syndrome. Sometimes, a wonderful ( Obviously sarcasm) combination of both , called a mixed tension migraine with aura. As well as near constant pain from all my other health issues. Including pain from numerous surgeries, etc.
I do take rizatriptan if it's only a Migraine with aura . I also have promethazine oral and suppositories if I'm also having nausea and vomiting, or if I'm in a cycle of my CVS. But I also have fiorcet with codeine and 5 mg Valium that I take if I'm having a tension Migraine or a delightful ( Once again, sarcasm.) Mixed tension Migraine with aura. As well as numerous other health issues to the point that I'm almost always in pain.
I am blessed to have an absolutely amazing primary care dr who also suffers from mixed tension migraines, so he knows exactly what I'm going through. So, I'm able to get my desperately needed medications from him instead of pain management or a neurologist.
But , in all honesty, I am blessed because I have amazing, i.e., very expensive, private family insurance. I pay a ton for it every month , so I'm sure this helps ! It is an absolute necessity for my child and I to have very good health insurance due to my health history.
I have a history of ovarian and cervical cancer. DVT blood clots, ( which I currently have 3 in my left arm, diagnosed after extensive imaging less than 11 days ago . Which they're guessing this time , that they're from a combo of laparoscopic surgery, plus my blood clotting disorder) last time I had 2 DVT blood clots , 1 in my arm , 1 in my leg from they're guessing , a combo of my blood clotting disorder plus IVF medications .
This led to pulmonary embolism twice in 2021, ( while undergoing IVF, thankfully, before my FET ) 1x before being in the hospital and then again while in the hospital.
I also unfortunately have 47 different severe allergies , some to food , medications, and different environmental factors , think animal dander, pollen, bee stings etc ( most of which are anaphylactic reactions), a rare blood clotting disorder which led to 11 miscarriages and 3 late term losses. As well as adenomyosis, endometriosis, severe stomach bleeding, uterine fibroids, Nonneoplastic polyps in my colon, diverticulitis, obviously migraines with aura and mixed tension migraines, tension headaches, CVS AKA cyclic vomiting syndrome, severe insomnia , anxiety. ( which , duh, look at my health history)
I was also in a devastating car wreck when I was 7, which left me in a coma for 13 months . I've had surgery on both shoulders twice, 4 times on my right ankle, and numerous other surgeries.
I also , after having an emergency c section due to a placental abruption at 31 weeks with my son . I then ended up having severe postpartum hemorrhage and sepsis 7 days later due to the on call dr leaving a piece of my placenta inside me ! ( I had to be admitted to the hospital , thank goodness it was the same hospital that my son had been transferred to because they had a level 4 NICU . The hemorrhage also resulted in me having to have blood and iron infusions numerous times . I also have the BRCA Gene 1 & 2 , an immediate family history of colon cancer and breast cancer, as well as AML AKA acute myeloid leukemia. Heart disease and numerous others.
I once semi jokingly said to my PCP ( primary care provideDr), do you ever get the feeling that God is trying to take you out ? Because it feels like that to me, lol . Being the absolutely amazing Dr that he is , he said , he's not trying to take you out , he's just showing/proving (to) you how strong and resilient you are. He has amazing things for you in the future ❤️ Sorry this was so long ! I didn't realize how long it was going to be !

Hello and welcome to UARS! The purpose of this thread is to discuss positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. CPAP is currently regarded as the gold standard for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. But what about UARS? Many patients who suffer purely from respiratory effort-related arousals (RERAs) and (non-hypoxic) hypopneas find that regular CPAP isn't the best modality to treat their sleep-disordered breathing.

Bi-level/BiPAP for UARS

There isn't a wealth of information on this topic, however there is some data by Barry Krakow, an AASM board-certified sleep medicine specialist, to suggest that bi-level modalities could be the superior form of PAP therapy to treat UARS (or non-hypoxic OSA). Barry Krakow was previously a medical director of two sleep facilities in New Mexico and titrated thousands of UARS and OSA patients with bi-level PAP therapy. "We stopped using CPAP in 2005. We only use the advanced PAP machines bilevel, auto bilevel, ASV, because we found it much easier". How to analyze your PAP data

OSCAR is a free program used for analyzing PAP data in-depth, it is compatible with most popular models of PAP devices. A wiki can be found here. It is recommended that you use OSCAR if you wish to self-manage your therapy.

I am in dire need of some help. If by some miracle I can get answers after a decade, beyond saving my life I will find a way to repay you. Here’s my story and as much of the facts as I can provide:
-Since birth, I’ve always had tremors that come and go, but when anxious, they become very strong comparable to shivering when you’re cold.
-I’m late 20s now, when I was 17, I got a decent concussion on the left side of my head. Weeks later, I got another concussion. I believe this is called Second Impact Syndrome. This immediately cause permanent visions issues on my left eye, as well as mood changes, and coordination issues.
-The doctors advice was to take a plethora of psych meds- Lexapro, Seroquel, Abilify, Amitriptyline, Clonazepam all at the same time. I did this for about 2 years and then the prescribing doctor died and I cold turkey-ed all the meds. I had gained about 75lbs on the meds, and lost the weight within 2 months of stopping the meds.
-A year after that, I began having numbness around my face and forehead, and it felt like I could feel my skin, but the bones and tissue underneath were numb. I started getting coordination issues, and major pain and spasm on the right side of my body.
-As this progressed, I’m faced with the following issues I’ve had for the last decade of my life:
-nearly fainting/instant unavoidable drowsiness around 7pm followed by insomnia from 12am-6am -grogginess & unrefreshing sleep -burning electrical nerve pain all around (mainly neck and upper back) -muscles feel like they’re made of cement & constant spasm -coordination issues -periodic movement issues (fingers, toes) -weakness/numbness on the right side of my body & scalp/forehead -periodic bed wetting -no bladder control -left & right side of my body and brain feels seperated -anxiety & panic -unable to exert myself -uncontrollable extreme moods (crying and laughing) -IBS -heart arrhythmia & palpitations -VERY sensitive to caffeine -dizziness -noticeable nerve and facial differences (wrinkle patterns and muscle movements) -tunnel visions & visual distortions/floaters on left side -hypersensitivity right side of my body -nausea & no holding back my gag reflex -vertigo -short term memory issues -cold sweat on and off -chronic joint pain -concentration issues and disassociation
Ruled out/tests: Multiple MRI- no legions & not MS/ALS
Bloodwork - at one point had positive ANA & ENA for mixed connective tissue disease but now negative - not autoimmune?
-no TSH issues

CBC normal

-No arthritis
-Sleep study EEG normal
-nerve conduction test normal
-caffeine amplifies all the symptoms
-marijuana amplifies all the symptoms
-gabapentin somewhat helps 30%
-alcohol helps but high tolerance now
-VERY sensitive to antihistamines like Benadryl (makes me super sick and almost like a seizure)
-sleeping pills / amitriptyline don’t work
-working out & exertion amplify symptoms
-massage & chiropractors hurt a lot and make it worse
-pain killers / codeine do nothing
-muscle relaxants do nothing
So there you have it. I can provide more info as needed, but I haven’t been able to find any answers and an entire team of doctors is at a loss. Please help me.

Toxicologist Dan Anderson Testimony
Jackson direct
Jackson attorney Koskoff is doing the direct examination. Anderson starts testifying about his experience, credentials
Jurors are shown the pictures of three prescription pill bottles found in MJ's bedroom:

Lorazepam
Diazepam
Flomax.
They are also shown a photo of four bottles of 20ml of Propofol

Anderson is then asked about a chart which shows the medications, how many doses were issued and how many remained at the time of Michael's death. Another series of charts show the Propofol and other medications that were found in the home
Most of the drugs, he testified, were prescribed by Murray
Toxicologist Anderson tells jury it's highly unusual to find injectable lorazepam and propofol in a home setting.
Anderson said investigators found injectable lorazepam at MJ's home, a form of the drug "typically found in a hospital setting."

Jackson lawyer Koskoff: "After you heard from investigators that propofol was found in the home, what did you think?"
Anderson: "Propofol collected as evidence, it's highly unusual. It raises a red flag in my eyes as a toxicologist...It's very problematic if it's found outside the hospital setting."

The discovery of the propofol bottles outside a medical setting also was "highly unusual" and "kind of raises a red flag", Anderson said
Anderson also explains where coroner's staff take samples from within a body, and also how certain drugs are metabolized. The toxicologist then explains to jurors what tests he ordered on Michael Jackson's body
Anderson said blood samples were taken from every corner of Jackson's body:

"his heart, femoral artery, liver and behind his eyes"

Dan Anderson : "This particular case, we were looking for everything and anything"

Anderson testified that tests of Jackson's blood, urine and internal organs showed traces of:

the anesthetic propofol
the anti-anxiety drugs Valium and lorazepam
the short-term anesthetic midazolam
lidocaine (a numbing cream that paramedics sometimes use in resuscitation efforts)

Toxicology tests detected six drugs in Jackson's system other than propofol (according to Anderson):

Lidocaine
Diazepam
Nordiazepam (a metabolite of Valium)
Lorazepam (Ativan)
Midazolam (Versed)
Ephedrine

Anderson walks jurors through a chart he prepared of the drugs found in Jackson's system. Propofol and lidocaine found everywhere. By everywhere, Anderson means blood taken from the heart, femoral artery, liver, urine and in fluid behind eye
Anderson said propofol and other drugs were found during toxicology tests, noting that propofol was of most concern.

Anderson: "It raises a red flag in my eyes...It's very problematic to find it outside the hospital setting"

After morning break, toxicologist Anderson tells jury level of propofol in MJ's body is consistent with general surgery. Anderson said that the amount of propofol found in his system was what you'd expect in a patient who had just undergone major surgery

Anderson: "Michael Jackson's body was riddled with the powerful anesthetic propofol when he died. The level was "consistent with major surgery anesthesia," said Anderson, noting that a level of 3.2 milligrams per milliliter of blood was found in Jackson's body

Jackson lawyer Koskoff asks Anderson about other cases LA coroner has handled where propofol was involved. Anderson tells jury about preparing a chart of all LA County deaths where propofol was found, after Michael's death. Coroner's office continued to update the chart after Jackson's death, Anderson tells the jury. It now has 31 cases. The first LA County death case where propofol was found dates back to 1999, Anderson says. It's updated as of a couple weeks ago. To put the 31 propofol cases in context, Anderson says coroner handles about 8,000 deaths a year. Roughly 5,000 involve toxicology screens.
Koskoff also asked Anderson about Demerol. Toxicologist says none was found in Jackson' s system. Anderson told jury Demerol typically dissipates from a person's system with 12-16 hours.
Summary of Negative Toxicological Findings:

No Alcohol, Barbiturates, Demerol, Zoloft, Xanax, Cocaine, Marijuana, Amphetamine, Codeine

Direct questioning of Anderson ends with him telling jury he didn't find any recreational drugs in Jackson's system

Cahan is the attorney handling cross-examination for AEG.
Anderson remembers when he heard Michael Jackson had died. It was a Thursday, his day off, and his son told him MJ had died.
He tells the jury he suggested tests that were conducted. Anderson tells that he observed part of the autopsy the day after the death.
Much of Anderson's cross examination is him explaining charts he prepared in greater detail.
Cahan notes that one chart shows 10 medications, with three doctors issuing them: Conrad Murray, Allan Metzger and Arnold Klein. She notes that the doctors were all prescribing certain medications that were supposed to be taken at bedtime. She asks if this is important. Anderson says his staff doesn't take into account directions for taking meds, but how they're found in toxicology screens.

Cahan: "Would you agree with me there are three different physicians prescribing medication for Mr. Jackson to take at bedtime (in the months before his death)?"
Anderson : "I would agree"

Anderson also explains that there were two visits to Jackson's home where medications were collected. On July 9th, a Jackson family member brought in additional medications they had found and thought investigators should have.
Anderson testifies by mid-July he knew the amount of propofol found in Jackson's body was cause of death
Cahan asked Anderson about signing his portion of the toxicology test on July 15th. She asked if the level of Propofal was fatal. Anderson responded with:

"yes...the level was fatal"

Anderson testifies that he found out propofol had been collected from Jackson's home after he found it in drug screens.

Anderson was also asked about 31 death cases in LA where propofol was found. He makes clear, propofol was not cause of death in all those cases. Jackson's lawyer Koskoff highlighted seven cases where propofol was a cause of death; five cases were in residences. Six of the seven cases where a propofol overdose was a cause of death were deemed suicides, toxicologist Anderson testified. According to Anderson, Jackson's case was the only one involving someone outside the medical field who overdosed on propofol in a home.
Anderson testified that Michael Jackson is the only person in Los Angeles County not in the medical field to die of propofol intoxication in their home in the last 14 years. The other six people who died at their homes were doctors or nurses who had access to the tightly controlled anesthetic
Christopher Rogers is the deputy medical examiner who performed MJ's autopsy. He walks through his credentials and experience.
Rogers said he learned about MJ's death while at a conference:

"Somebody passed me a note that Michael Jackson had died", Rogers said.

Rogers, who determined that Jackson's death was a homicide, told the jurors he gave added consideration to detail when determining the cause and manner of the MJ's death because of his stature

Rogers: "Because Michael Jackson was such a prominent individual, there was likely to be a great deal of press attention as well as from members of the public"

A black-and-white photo taken of Jackson's body before autopsy is shown to the jury. It's left on the screen for less than a minute. Rogers said the photo accurately depicted Michael's condition at the time
Rogers testified that the 5-foot, 9-inch MJ weighed 136 pounds at the time of his death and that X-rays showed he suffered from arthritis in his lower spine and fingers
Rogers walks jury through a diagram of puncture wounds and scars on Jackson's body. Punctures consistent w/ lifesaving efforts, he says. The origin of some of the scars couldn't be determined.
Rogers also detailed how Jackson had his lips tattooed pink, his eyebrows and scalp inked with black. There were 3/4-inch scars behind both ears, suggesting he had at least one face lift, according to Rogers
Rogers also testifies about MJ's Vitiligo. Rogers testified that MJ suffered from Vitiligo a disease more common in African Americans, in which some areas of the skin are light and others are dark

"It can be very disfiguring," Rogers said

Rogers said Jackson's post-mortem exam revealed no heart disease or Lupus, the autoimmune disease that some, Dr. Arnold Klein, have attributed to Michael
Rogers said the MJ was in good health before his untimely 2009 death at the hands of Dr. Conrad Murray

"If not for his death by propofol, Jackson's health appeared good enough for him to live a normal lifespan", Rogers testified.
"There was no indication from the autopsy that there was anything anatomically wrong with him that would lead to premature death," Rogers said

Koskoff asks Rogers about condition of MJ's body. Koskoff asked whether Jackson's body had any characteristics of a street drug addict. (Disease, track marks, liver damage.) Rogers says "No". Rogers also testifies about the condition of Jackson's organs. All were in good shape, other than some lung issues.
Rogers explained why he concluded that Jackson died from a propofol overdose. Koskoff asked Rogers whether his conclusions regarding Jackson's death have changed, "No" he responded.

Koskoff: "Would a fit, competent doctor administer propofol for insomnia?"
Rogers: "I would not expect that, no"

Rogers also shot down suggestions that Jackson self-administered his lethal dose of propofol, a cornerstone theory of Murray's defense.

"One possibility that we considered is that he might have given an overdose of propofol to himself. However based on the history that was available, I don't believe that that happened", Rogers said

According to the EO from Reagan I'm 86 Federal workers are prohibited from having schedule I & II drugs in their system at any time. With pot going from schedule I to III, is there a way/chance do you guys think/see that it'll be in mechanics and/or pilots favor to be able to smoke or take edibles to ease pain or to go to sleep? Posting on behalf of my partner (25F), who has had escalating back problems for about two years, and prior to that hip pain that has got progressively worse since she was about 16/17. I’m writing this as I feel quite desperate and we’re not getting answers from medical professionals. We don’t know what could be causing this or what to be asking about with consultants, or what the treatment plan could look like beyond pain injections. Worried pain is being treated without intervention.
I’m sorry if this isn’t the right place but I have been reading up on ankylosing spondylitis as prior to it getting this bad, she usually experienced the worst symptoms upon resting or in the mornings and it got better with gentle exercise. Now they’re bad all of the time and her mobility is really preventing her doing much, she is doing physio exercises and yoga regularly but it only gives short term minor relief. She also has a spotty history as a child due to parents not taking her to doctors. She hasn’t had a full back MRI, just lumbar and hip.
She had her lumbar and hip MRI back and it indicates: - Mild lumbar scoliosis to the left - Loss of curvature in spine - 3 nerve root compressions (L5, S1 and S3) - Disc bulge at L4-L5 indenting the thecal sac - Disc protrusion at L5-S1 compressing the thecal sac - Facet joint degeneration at L4-L5 to L5-S1 - Moderate to severe spinal canal stenosis - Hip bursitis in both hips.
She’s only 25 and a healthy weight, she has been seen by pain management as an urgent case (on gabapentin, codeine & waiting for nerve root injections) but GP still haven’t referred to neurology or rheumatology and there seems to be no urgency in understanding the cause. She pushed for some blood tests and is pushing for the referral. Pain management consultant has consistently warned of red flags for Cauda equina.
This seems really quite a lot for a 25 year old. Prior to all this she was active, swimming, cycling and dog walking so nothing too high impact at all. She has lost a huge amount of her mobility. There was no injury or trauma which took place, other than the dog pulling on the lead suddenly about 6 months ago but this was already an issue she had seen her GP about multiple times and it just made it worse.
I appreciate many might not know and it may not be the right place, but I am worried for her. The MRI results were months ago and only now has she seen it after having to make two formal requests to the GP, when informed of the results a few months ago she was only told she has spinal stenosis and a disc bulge which is obviously an understatement so this is all quite a shock.
Some of her symptoms include: - Severe lower back pain - Severe sciatica on right - Foot and leg numbness and weakness - Stooped posture - Foot drop - Severe fatigue - Ongoing and fluctuating hip pain - Knee pain at the front and bottom of the knee - Inflammation and swelling at various sites on the back - Shoulder pain, raised shoulder blade on left - Loss of mobility due to weakness, pain and stiffness. Using crutches and walking stick - Sudden rapid weight loss in the last two months (dropped at least a dress size when lifestyle is increasingly sedentary and no change to eating habits)
If anyone has had similar or went through similar, please do share.

Ok so first, a little autobiography that no one asked for — you can scroll down for the question and Tldr:
So about a year ago I had developed a life threatening complication while visiting my mother’s family in another country and had to undergo a very invasive emergency Hartmann procedure that left me with a stoma for a few months prior to reversal.
During my time at the hospital I also had began having seizures and hallucinations, all due to the fact that I was unknowingly dependent on Alcohol.
Society tends to make it so accessible and acceptable I never thought about the fact that I had a drink in my hand, whether a beer or a whiskey almost every night.
Recently I had been educating myself more and more about neurosciences and biology. Initially so I could learn about what was to understand how alcohol that can effect neural wiring (GABAA modulation and Glutamate surges) but it developed into a genuine interest where I now find myself reading medical journals and Studies even when taking a sh*t — something I will never take for granted again!
When I recovered from my first surgery, I began being very vigilant on my drinking habits (it really wasn’t hard as i never developed an emotional or psychological dependence or attachment besides taste + the withdrawal experience helped).
Although, when I was discharged I was dealing with really bad mental state (I’m bp2 and have GAD accompanied by Panic Attacks & dissociative disorder & ADHD so I was also prescribed Benzodiazepines since 11 years ago at age 14 (which they gave me at the hospital after that seizure though they still carried on).
But it was immensely exacerbated when all my ‘friends’ had left/stopped talking to me because no one wanted to be with the Substance Stoma Stud™.
And my family was growing distant for similar reasons. Even had all three of my siblings physically attack and assault me because i suggested we make mimosas for a special family brunch.
Getting back to my ‘home’ country where medications that would be considered ‘narcotic’ or anything that changes your perception is scarce due to people’s abuse of them… I remember getting all 4 wisdom teeth excised kn one session and being ‘prescribed’ Ibuprofen.
So even a basic post-op pain reliever is impossible to get. I got a one month supply of solpadien but the caffeine affected my sleep and codeine made me constipated (in the country where I did the operation I had to cycle codeine or tramadol and pregabalin for the pain.
Then I found herbalism and was immensely fascinated by the cornucopia of bioactive compounds and their wide range of uses. Initially it was herbs for anxiety snd sleep (Gabaergic herbs) to help lower my benzodiazepine doses.
Then i began exploring an array of herbs and botanical from nettle and maca to corn silk and Jatamansi.
I started off just buying capsules, then upgraded to making teas and blend from dry herbs, and then was buying tinctures, and then (because I had bottles of vodka in hadn’t touched yet since the shit show — pun intended) I decided to make my own tinctures.
Now I do this thing which is where my question for yall and my reaching out for your insight/experiences and knowledge begins.
I always made and preferred my tea to be very strong/medicinal. After finding out and reading about percolation method of making tinctures i thought, what if i did something similar?
So I mix my usual anxiety or sleep blend of herbs with just enough solvent (alcohol) to get them “wet” letting it sit for 10-30 minutes then poured my hot water over that and letting it steep as I usually do (i don’t know if thay would be percolation in of itself, but to my understanding percolation requires ghat i slowly pour more solvent after a 12-24 hour soak).
And let me tell you, the tea is STRONG. Like, skullcap easily replaces and feels akin to a high dose of benzodiazepines (which I’ve only taken twice or thrice in my life as I don’t want to be that guy that ruins a needed medicine for myself and others). Which makes sense considering baicalein has an affinity ti a2, a3, and a5 Benzodiazepine sites, subunits of GABAAR. Now add some Passion Flower and Lemon Balm and my brain is buzzing! Like a good strong kava minus the nausea and horrible taste instead it’sreplaced with another unpleasant taste that doesn’t numb you to it 😅.
I understand this is not something to be doing consistently with Gabaergic herbs. But it’s just as effective with almost all herbs such as mullein, raspberry leaf, nettle, Rose, Burdock, Cohosh etc. next i wanna try Lion’s Mane.
As a plus the boiling water and letting it steep gets rid of almost if not all the alcohol.
Has anyone done this before or do this with their teas?
TL;DR: After undergoing a major emergency surgery and experiencing severe physiological and psychological health issues, I’ve shifted my focus to herbalism, exploring the effects of various bioactive compounds in herbs.
Recently, I’ve been experimenting with a modified percolation method to make very strong herbal teas.
Has anyone else tried this method? Please share your experiences and professional takes. Thank you & Blessings 🙏🏽

Hi Everyone,
So I've been on Codeine for a very long time. I'm 26 now and have been on it since about 15 but has been on and off. But have been on it constant now for many years. I have pcos and have had surgery twice, and other health issues which I take it for such as recurrent dislocations of my shoulder and joint pain. But I do feel I am dependent on it now. I wouldn't be able to live my life normally without it because it helps the pain. I'm absolutely petrified to ever come off it as I've heard withdrawal is horrible and I feel I'll never live normally if I didn't have it. It numbs the pain, it numbs the emotions etc.
Is anyone in a similar situation? How bad is withdrawal & how does it feel & how long does it last? I want a family one day and I know they will take the pain killers away if I become pregnant. But I'm so scared as I feel I'll be miserable all pregnancy.

Hi Physicians of Reddit. I’ll try to be concise. Almost 2 years ago I was rear ended on the freeway, the guy who hit me died, he hit me going over 100 mph and his G force when his car descended killed him (I was told he was racing and went airborne) I sustained a concussion, whiplash and muscle strain injuries. I have no idea why it’s taken me this long to freaking heal. I’ve been in physical therapy for back and neck pain since, I now have post concussive syndrome & vestibular hypofunction on my left side, chronic pain that I mange with topical pain creams, lidocaine patches, heat and ice packs.. it’s been a wild and awful life changing experience. I recently was sent to a pain specialist outside of Kaiser (which is my normal health insurance) by my attorney, I decided to sue the man’s insurance for damages. This new physician has administered 2 cervical epidurals. The first time I was put under I felt.. well in all honesty it felt great.. I realized how easy it is for people to get hooked on pain meds. And I felt horrible for reacting that way. That was 3/27/24. I just had my 2nd cervical epidural yesterday and today I’m experiencing all sorts of things. I didn’t sleep much last night (5 hours), I feel like I’ve been running on pure adrenaline today and have felt a surge of energy, but also sorta irritation/agitation and a little impulsive if I’m honest. This afternoon I had what felt like a complete crash, exhausted, I went to lie down and completed a meditation session on the Calm app to relax. But I felt chills, nausea, anxiety, goosebumps, sharp headache right at the top of my head/skull. I felt really OFF like just.. off is the best way to describe it.. I felt really high strung, irritated, mile a minute thinking, trouble focusing, frazzled, like and ants in my body feeling. I was feeling all of this while lying in bed and just kept the covers on.
I’ve had a history of anxiety and depression, it’s pretty managed now but this felt somewhat similar to anxiety or maybe panic but not quite. It felt more restless and just like.. angry/irritable.
I would like to add this: in 2015 I had my tonsils removed and was put on 7 days of codeine. I stopped right when I was supposed to and had a ton of off symptoms, by 2 days of no sleep and tons of energy (I was wiping my walls and my home was never cleaner due to that energy surge) I knew something was off and called the pharmacy. They said I was experiencing mild withdrawal symptoms and to never take it again. I let my doctor know and it’s never been prescribed again.
The first epidural, I didn’t experience any of this. This time around the meds (fentanyl and versed) made me much sicker. I was nauseas and vomiting after the procedure.
What’s going on? Please give me your best medical opinions.
