2024.05.29 06:57 CallMeCassius I’d like to talk about New Orleans

I came across a previous post discussing places that have made people immediately uneasy or given them the feeling that they weren’t safe or welcome there. A few spots came to mind - parts of the Appalachian mountains, a strange town in Kentucky, somewhere out in the middle of Kansas - but New Orleans? I know her - and an overwhelming amount of responses mentioned her name.
I have spent a lot of time in that city. I am not naive to the fact that some areas are simply not safe and most of us can sense that. I am not naive to the buzzing of spirits that never allow you to truly be alone. But I feel drawn to New Orleans in a way I struggle to put into words.
It’s as if the city is a spirit of its own and she calls me back to her every chance she gets.
She’s the home I never knew - a hauntingly sad but beautiful home, a place I felt I’d been hanging my hat for decades even on my first visit years ago.
She feels like both an old acquaintance I know I should be afraid of and the greatest love I’ve ever had. The kind of love I’d drop to my knees and die for - quite literally - because I know in my bones that place will consume me someday with all the other souls and I’ll go willingly.
Even typing this out doesn’t feel like justice to the electric pull to her that constantly eats at me. Maybe this is an inquiry, maybe it’s a love letter. I’m curious if anyone has felt similar - if not there than anywhere else. The nagging feeling that a place isn’t just a place. What or who keeps pulling us back, and more importantly, what do they want?

2024.05.29 06:50 AcceptableMaize8955 Rome is supreme, Pro michael lofton charity and nuance

Im sick of hearing "primacy but not supremacy" its the same thing primacy is defined as "the fact of being primary, preeminent, or more important." and is even used in 1960s Catholic theology books. Affirming papal primacy doesn't go with eastern orthodox theology. Also eastern orthodox can cope with "First among equal!" or "Extra honor but no extra authority!" that's completely wrong to the early church and first among equals isnt a good term, if i were always first at something i would be more supreme then another. In regards to the early church Heres some references, Quoted in “Athanasius Quoted works” page 110 Pope Julius Letter to the eusebians at Antioch “And why is nothing said to us (The Apostolic see) concerning the Alexandrians in particular, are you ignorant that the custom has been for word to be written first to us and then for a just decision to be passed from this place” so he is saying in the matter of disputes matter should be brought to the see of Rome as to make a judgment and this is the east he is speaking to not just his patriarchal territories. Then he goes on and says “I beseech you readily bare with me what i write is for the common good, for what we have received from the Blessed apostle Peter that i signify unto you and i should have not written this as deeming that these things should be manifest unto all men had not these proceedings so disturbed us”
some might say this is peter syndrome where we get all giddy and excited when peter is mentioned and Rome is mentioned but i would like to say Pope Julius said he has received something from the Blessed apostle Peter that disputes in the east should be brought to his judgment to be settled.
Now from the writings of the early Church Historian sozomen source: Volume 2 of the nicene and post nicene fathers second series. Book 3 Chapter 10. Heres what he says about this whole affair of Pope Julius writing to the antiochians and what he ment in that segment “the bishops of Egypt having sent the declaration in writing, that these allegations were false and julius having been apprised (to give information to someone) that Athanasius was far from being in safety in egypt send for him to his own city he replied at the same time to the letter of the bishops who were convened at antioch (convened: to bring together a group of people for a meeting, or to meet for a meeting) for just then he happened to receive the epistle and accused them of having planned clandestinely(in a secretive and illicit way.) introduced innovations Contrary to the nicene dogmas and of having violated the laws of the church by neglecting to invite him to join their synod for he alleged that is a sacral Canon which declares that whatever is enacted contrary to the bishop of Rome is null."
Now from Nicea II Pope Hadrians Letter
‘Stand firm; for if you abide with perseverance in the orthodox Faith in which you have begun and so through you the sacred and venerable images are restored in those regions to their former state—just as the lord and emperor Constantine of pious memory and blessed Helena, who promulgated the orthodox Faith, raised up the holy, catholic, and apostolic church of Rome as your spiritual mother, and with the other orthodox emperors venerated it as the head of all the churches...'"
"...of all the churches... If, moreover, following the traditions of the orthodox faith, you embrace the judgment of the church of the blessed Peter prince of the apostles and, as the holy emperors your predecessors did of old, so you too venerate it with honor and love his vicar from the depths of your hearts, or rather if your rule granted by God follows their orthodox faith in accordance with our holy Roman church, the prince of the apostles, to whom was given by the Lord God the power to bind and to loose sins in heaven and on earth."https://orthodoxchurchfathers.com/fathers/npnf214/npnf2258.html
the blessed Cyril, bishop of Alexandria, says: "That we may remain members of our apostolic head, the throne of the Roman Pontiffs, of whom it is our duty to seek what we are to believe and what we are to hold, venerating him, beseeching him above others; for his it is to reprove, to correct, to appoint, to loose, and to bind in place of Him Who set up that very throne, and Who gave the fulness of His own to no other, but to him alone, to whom by divine right all bow the head, and the primates of the world are obedient as to our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
St. Damasus, Pope of Rome (A.D. 304-384)
“Although the catholic churches diffused throughout the world are one bridal chamber of Christ, yet the holy Roman church has been preferred to all other churches, not by any synodical decrees, but has obtained the primacy by the voice of our Lord and Savior in the gospel, saying: ‘You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell will never prevail against it; and I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven…..Therefore, the first see of Peter the Apostles is that of the Roman church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing” (Decree of Damasus, Roman Synod 382. Patrologia Latina 13.374; Jalland, T.G. (1944). Church and Papacy. London: Morehouse-Gorham Co. p. 255-57)
“For in view of our office there is no freedom for us, on whom a zeal for the Christian religion is incumbent greater than on all others, to dissimulate or to be silent. We bear the burdens of all who are oppressed, or rather the blessed apostle Peter, who in all things protects and preserves us, the heirs, as we trust, of his administration, bears them in us…[proceeds to list a number of errors being promoted in Tarragona (Spain)]… it is also inappropriate henceforth for you to deviate from that path, if you do not wish to be separated from our company by synodal sentence….Enough error on this matter! All priests who do not wish to be torn from the solidity of the apostolic rock, upon which Christ built the universal Church, should now hold the aforementioned rule…[lists more errors]…let them know that they have been expelled by the authority of the apostolic see from every ecclesiastical office, which they used unworthily…[lists more errors]… there is freedom for no priest of the Lord to be ignorant of the statutes of the apostolic see and the venerable decrees of the canons…” (Pope Siricius to Bishop Himerius of Tarragona 385 AD, Epistle 1, Directa Ad Decessorem. Patrologia Latina 13.1132; Ed. Pierre Coustant, Epistolae Romanorum pontificum (Paris, 1721; reprint Farnborough, 1967), 623-638.)
St. Innocent, Pope of Rome (401-417)
The reply of Pope St. Innocent in 417 to the Africans concerning their appeal on the controversy of Pelagius/Celestius goes like this:
“In making inquiry with respect to those things that should be treated with all solicitude by bishops, and especially by a true and just and Catholic Council, by preserving, as you have done, the example of ancient tradition, and by being mindful of ecclesiastical discipline, you have truly strengthened the vigour of our Faith, no less now in consulting us than before in passing sentence. For you decided that it was proper to refer to our judgement, knowing what is due to the Apostolic See, since all we who are set in this place, desire to follow the Apostle (Peter) from whom the very episcopate and whole authority of this name is derived. Following in his steps, we know how to condemn the evil and to approve the good. So also, you have by your sacerdotal office preserved the customs of the Fathers, and have not spurned that which they decreed by a divine and not human sentence, that whatsoever is done, even though it be in distant provinces, should not be ended without being brought to the knowledge of this See, [39] that by its authority the whole just pronouncement should be strengthened, and that from it all other Churches (like waters flowing from their natal source and flowing through the different regions of the world, the pure streams of one incorrupt head), should receive what they ought to enjoin, whom they ought to wash, and whom that water, worthy of pure bodies, should avoid as defiled with uncleansable filth. I congratulate you, therefore, dearest brethren, that you have directed letters to us by our brother and fellow-bishop Julius, and that, while caring for the Churches which you rule, you also show your solicitude for the well-being of all, and that you ask for a decree that shall profit all the Churches of the world at once; [40] so that the Church being established in her rules and confirmed by this decree of just pronouncement against such errors, may be unable to fear those men, etc.” (Pope Innocent I, Epistle 29, to the Council of Carthage (In requirendis). Jan 27, 417 AD. Patrologia Latina 33.780)
Pope St. Zosimus (AD 417)
Innocent’s successor, Pope Zosimus, continued to write letters to Africa concerning the same Pelagian issue:
“Although the tradition of the Fathers has attributed such great authority to the Apostolic See that no one would dare to disagree wholly with its judgment, and it has always preserved this [judgment] by canons and rules, and current ecclesiastical discipline up to this time by its laws pays the reverence which is due to the name of Peter, from whom it has itself descended …; since therefore Peter the head is of such great authority and he has confirmed the subsequent endeavors of all our ancestors, so that the Roman Church is fortified … by human as well as by divine laws, and it does not escape you that we rule its place and also hold power of the name itself, nevertheless you know, dearest brethren, and as priests you ought to know, although we have such great authority that no one can dare to retract from our decision, yet we have done nothing which we have not voluntarily referred to your notice by letters … not because we did not know what ought to be done, or would do anything which by going against the advantage of the Church, would be displeasing.…(From the epistle (12) “Quamvis Patrum traditio” to the African bishops, March 21, 418. Patrologia Latina 20. 676; Denzinger, H., & Rahner, K. (Eds.). (1954). The sources of Catholic dogma. (R. J. Deferrari, Trans.) (p. 47). St. Louis, MO: B. Herder Book Co.)
MG 54.743. Jerome: "I keep the unity in communion with your Beatitude, that is, with Peter's chair. I know that the Church has been built upon that rock." (Epist. 15.1, to Pope Damasus, ML 22.355).
The Roman See is the "Apostolic Chair" or the "Apostolic See." Augustine: "The sovereignty of the Apostolic Chair was always in the Roman Church" (Epist. 43, ML 33.163); "Apostolic See" (Serm. 131.10, ML 38.734).
The Roman Church presides as a sovereign over all the other churches. Gregory of Nazianzus: "It presides over all" (Poems, 2.1.12, MG 37.1068); Theodoret of Cyrus: "That most holy see holds in many ways the sovereignty over the churches of the entire world, especially because it kept immune of heretical corruption, and never a dissenter sat in it, but everyone
The Roman See is the source of all rights in the Church. Ambrose: "From that See derive into all the rights of the venerable communion." (Epist. 11.4, ML 16.986).
"Rome has spoken, the case is closed" ("Roma locuta est, causa finita est"). This famous axiom derives from Augustine saying about the debate on Pelagian heresy: "Concerning this question two conciliar decisions have been sent to the Apostolic See: also rescripts came from there, hence the trial is over." (Serm. 131.10, ML 38.734).
The Roman Pontiffs themselves constantly asserted their primacy, as is shown in the following summary of their doctrine.
They apply to themselves Christ's words to Peter, Matt 16.18 ff.: "Thou art Peter..." and John 21.15-17: "Feed My lambs..." Thus Siricius, Boniface I, the "Decree of Gelasius," Hormisdas, Pelagius I, Nicholas I (Denz. 184, 234, 350, 383, 446, 640).
Sure, here is the transcription of the text from the third image:
The Roman Pontiff is Peter's moral person. Siricius: "[The Roman Pontiff is] the apostolic rock." (Denz. 184). Innocent I: "Whenever a question of faith is dealt with, all must refer only to Peter, that is, to the one who bears his name and his honor." (Denz. 218). Leo I: "The blessed Peter did not leave the government which he received... In his See [that is, the Roman] his power is alive and his authority is visible." (Serm. 32 f., ML 54.145 f.).
Peter remains in his successors. See Leo I, just quoted. Philip, apostolic legate to the Council of Ephesus: Peter "is always living in his successors." (Denz. 3056).
The Roman Pontiff is "Peter's heir" (Siricius, Denz. 181) and has "Peter's See" (Leo I, quoted above; Gelasius, quoted below).
The Roman Pontiff has "the care of all the churches." (Innocent I, Denz. 218; Leo I, Serm. 5.2 ML 54.153). He is "the head of all the churches" (Boniface I, Denz. 233; "Decree of Gelasius," Denz. 350; Pelagius I, Denz. 446, 640).

[Ibid.] The language of his decree suggests he regarded the Roman see as a yardstick of Christian orthodoxy."
Pope Vigilius came to become Pope amid much turmoil in 537, as his predecessor, St Silverius, had been accused of treason, defrocked, and exiled by Belisarius, the general under Empress Theodora. Silverius had refused to re-instate the monophysite patriarch of Constantinople, whom Pope Agapetus had deposed — even here, a recognition of the canonical authority of Rome to depose and judge the other most prominent and important Sees of Christendom was something the Popes fought bitterly to maintain against the emperors.
Where was this canonical authority established? In fact, it was as old as the Church itself. When Athanasius had been exiled by a judgment of the Alexandrian Church, Pope Julius had written on his behalf (341): “Judgment ought to have been made, not as it was, but according to the ecclesiastical canon. It behoved you all to write us so that the justice of it might be seen as emanating from all.” Again: “Are you ignorant that the custom has been to write first to us and then for a just decision to be passed from this place [Rome]?” For Pope St Julius, the judgment of Athanasius which had not sought approval from Rome was a canonical novelty: “not thus are the constitutions of Paul, not thus the traditions of the Fathers. This is another form of procedure, and a novel practice.” However, the reference of judgment to the Apostolic See was something taught by the Apostle Peter: “For what we have heard from the Apostle Peter, these things I signify to you.”

2024.05.29 04:00 Odtoast Stomach issues taking over my life!

Hi. This is quite a long post so please bear with me. I could really use some help. I’m gonna put as many details as I can in here.
Background details on me: I, (24 F) live in the UK. I’m generally healthy but slightly on the overweight side (my weight has fluctuated for as long as I can remember but the switch from on your feet retail work to office work has affected my weight) Ive never had any serious health issues apart from a blood clot on my lung when I was seventeen. Despite only being 24 - I am a recovered alcoholic. Over a year. My most recent liver function test was fine. I’ve given up cigarettes for almost two years and occasionally vape as a replacement (I know it’s terrible - I am trying to stop). I do not take drugs and am over 3 years drug clean.
My family history: on my mums side three generations have had cervical cancer. On my dad’s side stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer runs rife. My dad himself has a stomach issue called colitis.
The issue: Around eight months ago I started having these ‘pain episodes’. Always at night, never a specific food triggered it. About once every two weeks. This pain was on my left side underneath my ribs and lasted around five hours a time. It was too much to sleep but I could concentrate on a TV show if I wanted too. I originally passed it off as acid reflux but as it persisted I decided to go to the doctors. They felt my tummy. Asked me some questions about my diet and further said it was acid reflux. I was reccomended a common antacid and sent on my way.
Afew more weeks pass by and this pain persists. I now notice with every time it’s getting worse. I think to myself ‘surely acid reflux does not get THIS bad’. The pain episodes start lasting for around 7 hours. Does not matter whether I’m sitting, standing, laying down. Anything. I also noticed alongside this I felt I had a lot of trapped wind or like I needed to use the toilet without the ability too.
I went back to the doctor. They were annoyed I was back again with this issue but they listened. They now decided it could be a bout of gastritis caused by H.pylori and ordered me to submit a stool sample and IF it came back positive I’d be given antibiotics but they told me to eat bland food. Not spicy and not fried in the meantime. Which I did. This test came back negative and I was not contacted about any next steps.
More time goes by. I stick to the bland foods. The pain gets worse. I begin to get a lot of swelling in my upper abdomen when it comes. These episodes begin happening every other day. The only thing that makes me feel better? Forcing myself to vomit. And trust me, I’m not proud of it. But I tried hot water bottles, cold compresses, every position possible, antacids, encorperating more movement in my everyday. What else could I do? Once I realised the vomiting made the pain go away - that’s what I would do as soon as I felt it. I needed to be able to sleep because I had work early. I couldn’t be up all night in pain.
One night. I have a specifically terrible episode and end up in A&E. this time the vomiting didn’t help and actually made it worse. I now notice a little hard lump on my upper left abdomen that is there constantly. A&E take my blood and the results come back that my liver function is ever so slightly elevated. They feel my tummy. Tell me it’s gastritis. Send me home. By that point the pain subsided and I was exhausted. I wasn’t going to fight it.
I wake up the next day and the first thing I do is get a doctors appointment. I ask for the same doctor as last time. I give her all my symptoms. She notes the fact that I’ve noticeably lost weight since the last appointment. She feels my tummy and decides to refer me for an abdominal ultrasound to check my pancreas, liver, gallbladder and stomach. She also ordered blood tests to check me for celiac disease (again negative) and my liver again (it had returned to normal)
I waited for two months to get a refferal letter. As I write this - the scan date is just shy of a month away.
During this time. The pain has increased to daily. I vomit almost daily because it makes the pain atleast bareable verses unable to talk, or breathe, horrific pain. I went to A&E twice over it, nothing was done. I went to urgent care. They prescribed me lanzoprazole 30mg (one a day before food) hyoscine butylbromide 10mg (2 tablets 4 times a day). It helps, occasionally. I also still can’t go to the toilet and when I can (maybe once a week) it’s a real struggle. The movements are light in color.
I am always pale. I am always tired. My blood pressure is lower than normal for me but still in normal ranges
Basically. Any ideas of what this is? Anyone with similar stories. Are my doctors doing enough? I’m not convinced it’s gastritis or acid reflux. I’m doing everything I can. But this is getting pretty hard to live with.
Thankyou everyone.

2024.05.29 01:29 eury13 I guess getting rejection letters is good?

I've been dealing with this for the past month or so. I was alerted to the identity theft from some unrecognized credit inquiries and I immediately froze my reports and got the fraudulent inquiries removed.
Every week since then I've been getting one or two letters explaining that a bank was not able to process my application or open a credit account due to my credit reports being frozen.
So on one hand it seems that I am successfully preventing fraudulent use of my information to open new accounts.
But on the other hand I know it's possible I'm only seeing the tip of the iceberg and there's other activity that I don't see that is not being caught or detected.
Not really looking for more guidance or advice at this point. Just sharing.

2024.05.29 01:19 Realistic-Present7 While searching for a new job, I'm only getting attention from for-profit companies, but my passion lies with nonprofit work. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, all. I'll try to keep things brief!
Background I am a part-time English professor and I'm really passionate about making academia accessible for non-traditional students (people who work blue collar jobs, are first-gen, have families to provide for, have disabilities, etc.). This goal has defined my entire career and has also driven my curricula design. I do have a strong interest in other areas (mostly sustainability and women's rights).
I worked full-time for one nonprofit helping rural economies several years ago, and for a Native American history museum before that. In other words, my career is kind of all over the place as far as mission statements go.
Job Search I love teaching, but I'm looking for something with a more consistent pay schedule. So, I've been applying to various remote nonprofit jobs for a year (I live in the middle of nowhere). In my applications, I try to highlight my experience with instructional design and program implementation/coordination, two things that I know I am good at. I've also had a little success with grant writing, and I do mention this in my apps. However, I have not heard back from a single organization in all this time. I have mostly been using Idealist and Workable for my job search.
In desperation I started applying to some local businesses and a few remote companies, and have heard back from several. However, I know myself, and I know that I would be most fulfilled at an organization with an impactful mission in mind. I just don't know how to do it. I do tailor my cover letters, trying to hit the right spot between passionate and professional, but maybe I'm doing something wrong here. I don't really know what I'm asking, I guess. Does anyone know of organizations that fit my mission? Or does anyone have a sample cover letter? Or networking tips?

2024.05.29 01:15 DecipherYourself Spill the Tea, Bro(s)

What the effervescent hell is going on with the iced black tea, aka "Paris Tea"? I've been to multiple locations, mostly in Arizona, and over the last month or so, the usually delightful regular black iced tea is decidedly not a delight. The result, if not the product itself, is way off. Sample size: at least ten orders since roughly late March 2024, in locations across the state and even one out of town check in.
I've independently verified with another set of taste buds that things are substantially different, lest anyone assume I am just dreaming this whole thing, suffering long and weirdly precise Covid symptoms, or came looking to blow the lid of a massive conspiracy with my tales of beverage betrayal.
Could it be that it just being steeped differently (everywhere, simultaneously)? More watered-down due to a company policy? Mixed with something else to stretch out the supply? If you need anonymity I will protect you as long as we get the truth out in the open.
A human, or human-like bot, on the company site confirmed for me they still use the same supplier and tea (Harney and Sons / Paris Tea). I suppose there's an outside chance that the producer has changed the tea leaves (or that a sad elf died in the machinery). What say you, is it the Sons or the Bros? Where should I direct my letter-writing campaign?
For the tens upon ones of people that see this, I thank you for your prompt skimming.
TL;DR - Why is the TL;DR ever placed at the BOTTOM of messages?

2024.05.28 22:50 VanillaDollez Question about RFE response

Hi everyone! I want to ask if there is any person going through the same situation, or it has happened to them before, I'm stressed about my RFE response. I got the letter RFE by mail, it was about the correction of the Public Charge on form I485. So, I corrected the form and sent it by FedEx on May 8, and the tracking number shows it was delivered ok May 10. (The address was in the same city where I'm living). It's been almost 3 weeks since the delivery date, and I haven't received any notice by USCIS about if they got my RFE response. It's my second RFE, the first one was about my Sponsor, and I had the option of responding with evidence online, and my Case status changed to "RFE Response received" two days after I uploaded my response. So now, I don't know what to think, or what to do. Is it normal that it's been almost 3 weeks and the online account still shows the "RFE Was Sent"? What should I do? Should I re-send the RFE response (this time by USPS)? Should I upload it to Unsolicited evidence? Should I keep waiting? (I have until the first week of July to respond the RFE). Is it possible to ask in person going to the USCIS Office (the address where I had to send the response) (I live in the same city). I submitted an inquiry online last week, about this same situation, and they answered to me but what they responded was not even what I asked. Has anyone been in this situation? How long after you sent a RFE response did you got the notice of it being received by USCIS? Thank you all 🥺🙌

2024.05.28 22:32 Unlikely_Garlic US Bank Altitude Connect: Is It Worth Calling Recon Twice?

I applied for the US Bank Altitude Connect card. I got the message of a decision in 7-10 days, then got the denied letter. When I called the recon number 1-800-947-1444, I was transferred and was told my credit file was too weak for credit cards and would only be approved for secured cards.
I was taken back by the comment that I should only apply for secured cards. Is my credit file actually that weak (I didn’t think it was but I may be wrong), or is that US Bank being hard to get approved for. Did I just happen to get an agent in a grumpy mood and worth trying to call recon again, or just move on? Thank you!

2024.05.28 22:16 Content-Yesterday-82 Thank you- r/IRS Community

Appreciation post here (hopefully this is within the posting guidelines). I hadn't filed any of my annual income tax to the IRS since 2014. Long story short, I went through some personal issues in 2014/2015 and filed extensions but missed those deadlines. The following years snowballed and then covid happened and next thing I knew i had not filed for 9 years. No excuses. I take full responsibility for my actions. I guess during that time I was waiting for a letter from the IRS but it never came so i just kept on procrastinating. I have a good career now and have been consistently making $300K-$450K on each W2 so I assumed I owed a lot each year, not including the penalties and interest. I'm married, live in NYC, had a daughter two years ago and pretty much live paycheck to paycheck because we are a single income family (I haven't saved much). I tried not to think about it but I had estimated that i probably owed over $500K in back taxes and penalties. The personal and financial stress of knowing that a letter from the IRS would eventual come became too much for me to handle last year. I went into depression as I was certain that i would be in so much of a financial hole that i could not get out of. Was i going to jail? I was thinking how i could do this to my wife and daughter's future. Suicidal thoughts were definitely running in my mind every night up until the holidays last year.
So, in early December I did finally receive that dreadful letter from the IRS stating that i had not filed for 2020 (why only 2020??). I wasn't sure what to do. I assumed i had to hire a tax attorney which i probably couldn't afford. So one night i randomly googled my situation and came across all these Reddit threads. One thread in particular interested me as someone was in a similar situation as i and a Tax professional (enrolled agent) had commented and gave some really good advice. I went to her Reddit profile and i could see she was helping others with good advice. I had to do research to see if she was legitimate and everything i saw in LinkedIn, google and reddit lead me to believe she was.
I reached out to her via DM and she was willing to have a call with me and took a look at my W2s and assured me it was not as bad as i thought it was, although i would probably owe a pretty penny for interest and penalties. She advised me to respond to the 2020 inquiry and also prepare to file the last 5 years immediately. She said she could file for me for a fee or i could do it myself on TaxactUSA. I ended up filing myself through Taxact and I was surprised to find out I had refunds of $8K 2023, $17K 2022, $5K 2021, and owed $1.7K for 2019. I had to go through a different process for 2020 because i received an exam but i am happy to say that I received a refund for $17K today for that 2020 year.
I cannot thank this Reddit community enough for helping me out. Especially the CPA that took the time out of her busy schedule to answer my questions. I really don't know where i would be right now if i had not stumbled upon the Reddit threads that one night. What a different perspective on life I have now. Thank you everyone.

2024.05.28 22:04 jenniferlouise92 Cervical Screening Results

You should get your cervical screening (smear test) results by post within 4 weeks after your test. Most results will be clear.
What do my cervical screening results mean?
England, Scotland and Wales use a test called HPV primary screening during cervical screening. Northern Ireland currently uses a test called cytology, but will use HPV primary screening in future.
The results you get will depend on how your sample is tested.
Depending on your result and where you live, you may be asked to:
No HPV found
What it means
You don’t have high-risk HPV.
Next steps
If you live in England, you will be invited for cervical screening in:
If you live in Scotland or Wales, you will be invited for cervical screening in 5 years, whatever your age.
HPV found – no cell changes found
What it means
You have high-risk HPV, but you do not have changes to your cervical cells.
Next steps
You will be invited for cervical screening in 1 year, to check the HPV is gone. If you get this result 3 times in a row, you will be invited to colposcopy for more tests
HPV found – cell changes found
What it means
You have high-risk HPV and cervical cell changes.
Next steps
You will be invited to colposcopy for further tests.
Inadequate
What it means
You sometimes get this result if the sample could not be tested properly, does not have enough cells or if the cells cannot be seen properly under a microscope.
Next steps
Repeat cervical screening after 3 months.
Cytology results (if you live in Northern Ireland)
Cytology is currently used in Northern Ireland.
Normal
What it means
You do not have cervical cell changes.
Next steps
You will be invited for cervical screening in 3 or 5 years.
Abnormal
What it means
You have cervical cell changes. Your results letter will tell you if the changes are borderline, low grade or high grade.
Next steps
You will only be invited for colposcopy if you have high grade cell changes or low grade cell changes and HPV.
Inadequate
What it means
The sample of cells could not be looked at for changes. This sometimes happens if the sample does not have enough cells or if the cells cannot be seen properly.
Next steps
Repeat cervical screening after 3 months.
When will I get my cervical screening results?
You should get your cervical screening results within 4 weeks after your test, but your results may be delayed – this may be because your lab is processing a lot of cervical screening tests. At your appointment, you can ask your nurse how long it will take to get your results and how you will get them.
How will I get my cervical screening results?
You should always get your cervical screening results letter in the post. If you don’t get a letter within the timeframe your GP surgery gave you, you may want to ring them.
If your sample needed further investigation or you need more tests, the hospital may contact you with your results.
Cervical screening results FAQs
Are my cervical screening results reliable?
HPV primary screening and cytology are reliable ways of testing the sample of cells taken during cervical screening:
No screening test is perfect, so with both tests there is a chance of getting an inaccurate result.
If my cervical screening results show cell changes, does it mean I have cervical cancer?
No, cell changes are not cervical cancer. We know that about 1 in 20 people get a cervical screening result of cell changes. Cell changes happen when our cells start behaving in a way they should not, but many go back to normal without treatment. Sometimes treatment is needed to make sure cell changes don’t develop into cervical cancer.
It is very rare for cervical cancer to be diagnosed from cervical screening. Only about 1 in 2,000 (less than 1%) people with an abnormal cervical screening result will have cervical cancer.
My cervical screening results letter says I have dyskaryosis. What does this mean?
Dyskaryosis is another word for cell changes. Your results letter may also say if the cell changes are borderline, low grade or high grade, and it will tell you the next steps.
I have never had HPV or cell changes. Should I opt out of the cervical screening programme?
It is your choice whether to go for cervical screening. The NHS invites you for cervical screening from age 25 to 64 because research has shown that screening to this age is the best way to make sure your risk of developing cervical cancer as you get older is low.
Will cervical screening give a final diagnosis of cancer?
No. It is important to remember that cervical screening is a screening test only. It gives a snapshot of cervical cells to identify whether there may be changes caused by high-risk HPV early.
If you have an abnormal result, you may be invited to colposcopy, so an expert can take a closer look at your cervix and diagnose any cell changes. If these changes are not monitored or treated, they may develop into cervical cancer at some point in the future. This is why cervical screening is the best way to prevent cervical cancer, along with having the HPV vaccine.
Lots of people feel anxious after getting an abnormal result, so you are not alone if you feel this way. It is important that you understand what any cell changes are, so you can talk with your doctor about the results and get the right care and support.

2024.05.28 21:51 jenniferlouise92 What happens at cervical screening?

At your cervical screening (smear test) appointment, a nurse takes a sample of cells from your cervix using a small, soft brush. The test only takes a few minutes.
Booking your cervical screening appointment
If you are registered with a GP, you will get a letter telling you it is time for your cervical screening appointment. You have to contact your GP to book an appointment. You can usually do this online or over the phone.
In some areas, sexual health clinics offer cervical screening. You may choose to contact your local clinic if you aren’t able to access, or don’t feel comfortable at, your GP surgery.
Appointment times
Many GP surgeries offer cervical screening appointments on set days or at set times. If you can’t attend any of the available appointments, speak to your GP surgery to see if they can be flexible for you.
Things to think about before booking
What happens at the GP surgery?
Plan to spend at least 30 minutes at your GP surgery, which may include waiting for your appointment or being directed to the room. The test itself, where your nurse takes a sample of cells from your cervix, will only take a few minutes.
Arriving at your GP surgery
Your GP surgery will give you details about what to do once you arrive.
Although face coverings are no longer mandatory in healthcare settings, you can still choose to wear one if you wish
Your cervical screening appointment
A nurse, sometimes called a sample taker, will invite you into a treatment room. They will explain what cervical screening is and check if you have any questions.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Your GP surgery will follow local guidance about wearing PPE. If your nurse is wearing PPE, this may include a mask, gloves and apron.
Your cervical screening test
Your nurse will give you a private space to undress from the waist down, usually behind a curtain. If you are wearing a dress or skirt, you can leave this on and just take off your underwear.
Someone having cervical screening
Your nurse will ask you to lie on an examination bed and give you a new, clean paper sheet to cover the lower half of your body. You can lie:
Your nurse will let you know when the test is about to start. First, they gently put a new, clean speculum into your vagina. A speculum is usually a plastic cylinder with a round end – sometimes a metal speculum is used. The speculum is the part that some people find uncomfortable.
Once the speculum is inside your vagina, the nurse will gently open it so they can see your cervix.
Then the nurse will use a small, soft brush to quickly take a sample of cells from your cervix. This may feel a bit strange, but should not be painful.
The nurse will put your sample of cells into a small plastic container (vial) of liquid. The liquid preserves the cells so they can be sent to a lab for testing.
And that’s it! The nurse will take the speculum out of your vagina and give you a private space to dress again. They will explain how and when you should get your results.
After your cervical screening appointment
Most people can continue their day as usual after the appointment.
You may have some light bleeding (spotting) for a day after the test, so it can help to wear a sanitary pad or panty-liner.
Your cervical screening results should arrive by post within 4 weeks.
Cervical screening appointment FAQs
Does cervical screening hurt?
Everyone’s experience of cervical screening is different. Some people don't find it uncomfortable, while for others it may be uncomfortable or hurt. There are lots of reasons, physical and pyschological, for this. It is important to tell your nurse or doctor if cervical screening is painful for you.
If you want to go for cervical screening, there are ways to make the test more comfortable and make sure you get the right support.

Cervical screening tips
Everyone has a different experience of cervical screening. If you are looking for ways to make cervical screening (a smear test) better for you, there are lots of things you can try. On this page, we talk through different tips. The tips on this page are for everyone, although you may feel some are not right for you. It may take a while to try a few things before finding something that works for you.
Talk to your nurse or doctor
If it is your first cervical screening, you feel embarrassed or worried, you have had a bad experience before, or you have experienced anything that makes the test hard for you, telling the person doing the test means they can try to give you the right support. If you don’t feel comfortable saying something, try writing it down.
Ask for the first appointment of the day
If you feel uncomfortable in waiting rooms, you may want to ask to book the first appointment of the day. This can mean it is quieter and there is less time for you to wait.
Ask to book a longer or double appointment
Having more time before, during or after cervical screening can help people take in information about the test and process everything that happens. If this would be useful for you, you may want to check if your GP surgery can offer you a longer appointment.
The receptionist may ask why you need a longer appointment – remember, you do not have to disclose anything.
Ask for a nurse or doctor of a particular gender
You may feel more comfortable knowing that a female or male nurse will be doing your cervical screening. If you have a nurse or doctor you trust, you may want to check with your GP surgery if they are able to do it.
Take someone you trust with you
If it would help or you need assistance, you can ask if someone can come with you. It could be a friend, family member, partner or someone else. They can be in the waiting room or examination room with you to offer support. They may also be able to speak on your behalf about any worries.
If a trusted person isn’t able to come to the appointment, you can check if another member of staff can be with you for support. This person is sometimes called a chaperone.
Wear a skirt or dress
If you feel comfortable wearing a skirt or dress, it may help you feel more covered. You can keep it on during the test and only take off your underwear.
You do get a paper sheet to cover yourself. If you would like to, you can also ask if you can bring a spare shawl or blanket too.
Ask for a smaller speculum
Speculums come in different sizes. If you find the standard size too uncomfortable, you can ask to try another size.
Put the speculum in yourself
You may feel more relaxed and comfortable about putting the speculum in your vagina yourself. If you have a partner with you, you may prefer them to put the speculum in.
Lie in a different position
Lying on your back may feel uncomfortable for lots of reasons. You can ask to lie on your left hand side with your knees bent (left lateral position).
Use post-menopausal prescriptions
If you have gone through or are going through the menopause, let your doctor or nurse know. After menopause, the opening of the vagina and vaginal walls become less able to stretch, which can make the test more uncomfortable. You can ask your nurse to give (prescribe) you a vaginal oestrogen cream or pessary, which may help.
Ask to be referred to colposcopy
Sometimes the nurse may not be able to see your cervix. This could be because you have a tilted cervix, cervical stenosis (where the vagina narrows) or something else. It does not mean there is anything to worry about. The nurse may suggest you go to a colposcopy department for cervical screening, as they have equipment like adjustable beds that can help when trying to see the cervix.
Visit a specialist cervical screening clinic
Some people prefer to go for cervical screening in a clinic that meets their needs.
If you have experienced sexual violence, the charity My Body Back has clinics in London and Glasgow. The London clinic is for people living anywhere in the UK, and the Glasgow clinic is for people living in Scotland. My Body Back clinics are now open, so please contact them to book your appointment.

2024.05.28 21:46 jenniferlouise92 About Cervical Screening

Cervical screening is a free health test that helps prevent cervical cancer. It checks for a virus called high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) and, if you have HPV, cervical cell changes (abnormal cells).
What is cervical screening?
Cervical screening is a free health test available on the NHS as part of the national cervical screening programme. It helps prevent cervical cancer by checking for a virus called high-risk HPV and cervical cell changes. It is not a test for cancer.
It is your choice whether to go for cervical screening. We hope this information helps you make the best decision for you and your health.
If you have symptoms, contact your GP surgery about having an examination. Cervical screening is not for people who have symptoms.
Who is invited for cervical screening?
You should be invited for cervical screening if you have a cervix. Women are usually born with a cervix. Trans men, non-binary and intersex people may also have one.
In the UK, you are automatically invited for cervical screening if you are:
You may get your first invite up to 6 months before you turn 25. You can book an appointment as soon as you get the invite.
How often will I be invited for cervical screening?
Your cervical screening result will help decide when you are next invited for cervical screening.
You may be invited:
Cervical screening invites and coronavirus
Across the UK, cervical screening invites are being sent. If you had your test cancelled because of coronavirus, you are now able to book an appointment.
What are the benefits and risks of cervical screening?
You are invited for cervical screening because evidence shows that the benefits of the test outweigh any risks. Along with the HPV vaccine, cervical screening is the best way to protect against cervical cancer and prevents over 7 in 10 diagnoses. However, like any screening test, cervical screening is not perfect and there are some risks.
Benefits of cervical screening
Possible risks of cervical screening
It is hard to know exactly how many people are affected by these risks. But we do know, for those aged 25 to 64, the benefits of cervical screening outweigh the risks and most results will be clear.
Opting out of cervical screening
If you decide not have cervical screening, ask your GP to be taken off their invite list. If you change your mind, you can ask your GP to add you back to the list at any time.
Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust is an independent charity and cannot opt you out of the National Cervical Screening Programme.
Cervical screening FAQs
What is the difference between cervical screening and a smear test?
A smear test is the older name for the test. It was called that because of the way the test used to be done – cells were smeared on a glass slide, which was sent to the laboratory for testing.
The test is different now and most healthcare professionals call it cervical screening. Your letter will invite you to attend cervical screening, which is why we call it that in our information.
Does cervical screening check anything other than the health of my cervix?
No. Cervical screening is only designed to find high-risk HPV or cervical cell changes which, if not monitored or treated, may eventually develop into cervical cancer. It does not check for other conditions or any cancers.
Why can’t I have cervical screening unless I am age 25 to 64?
It is very rare to develop cervical cancer under the age of 25. It is also rare to develop cervical cancer over the age of 64, if you have had regular cervical screening.
Cervical screening is not for people with symptoms. If you are worried about symptoms, see your GP for an examination.
Should LGBT+ people with a cervix go for cervical screening?
All women and people with a cervix between age 25 and 64 can go for regular cervical screening, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Most cervical cell changes and cervical cancers are caused by persistent infection with HPV. As HPV can be passed on through any skin-to-skin contact in the genital area, anyone having any kind of sex is at risk of getting it.
Do I need cervical screening after hysterectomy or another treatment?
If you have previously had treatment that affected your cervix for any reason, you may no longer be invited for cervical screening. These treatments include:
After these treatments, your healthcare team may want you to have a different test called a vault smear. This takes a sample of cells from your vagina and tests them to check that they are healthy. Whether you are offered vault smears and how long you are offered them for depends on your individual situation.
Should I go for cervical screening if I am pregnant?
It is usually recommended that you do not have cervical screening while you are or could be pregnant. Pregnancy can make the result of your test harder to interpret.
If you are invited for cervical screening while pregnant, tell your doctor or nurse you are pregnant. You should wait until 3 months after your baby is born to have the test.
If you need follow-up after an abnormal cervical screening result or treatment for cell changes, you may need to have the test while pregnant. Your GP or midwife may ask you to have it at your first antenatal appointment. This test will not affect your pregnancy.
If you are planning a pregnancy
Ask your doctor or nurse if you are up to date with your cervical screening. This means that any tests or treatment can be arranged around the pregnancy.
I have HIV. How often should I go for cervical screening?
HIV can make your immune system very weak, meaning it is not as able to get rid of HPV that causes most cervical cancers. If you have HIV, speak with your healthcare team about going for cervical screening every year. Annual cervical screenings are usually taken outside of the NHS National Screening Programme.

Cervical screening aged 65 or over
If you are aged 65 or over, you will no longer be invited for cervical screening (a smear test) unless you are being followed up for cell changes (abnormal cells). You may feel worried or anxious about this, but it is because the benefits of cervical screening start to become less as we get older.
Why do I stop getting invited for cervical screening when I turn 65?
Cervical cancer usually develops very slowly. In fact, it’s estimated that it takes between 10 and 20 years for a high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection to develop into cell changes and then into cervical cancer. Because it develops so slowly, it is very unlikely you will develop cervical cancer if you are 65 and have gone for cervical screening when invited.
You won’t get any more invites once you turn 65, if your last cervical screening result was normal. If you had an abnormal result, you will continued to be invited until you have no sign of HPV (HPV negative) or have completed your individual follow up.
What if I have never been for cervical screening?
If you are 65 or older and have never had cervical screening, you are entitled to a test. If you want, you can book an appointment with your GP surgery.
What if I have symptoms?
It is important to be aware of the symptoms of cervical cancer, including:
All of these symptoms can be things other than cervical cancer, but if you have any, see your doctor or nurse and get them checked out.

Cervical screening aged 24 or under
In the UK, you are invited for cervical screening (a smear test) from age 25 until age 64. Cervical screening is not recommended for anyone under 25 years old.
You may get your first invite up to 6 months before you turn 25 – if you do, you don’t have to wait to book an appointment.
Why does cervical screening start at 25?
Cervical cancer is very rare in under-25s. In the UK, per 100,000 women:
Cervical screening doesn’t reduce cervical cancer diagnoses in under-25s
Cervical screening hasn’t been shown to reduce the number of cervical cancers in under-25s.
We know this because, in countries where cervical screening starts at 20 years old, the number of people under 25 diagnosed with cervical cancer is not significantly different than in countries that start screening at 25 years old.
The number of under-25s diagnosed with cervical cancer is likely to fall even further over the next 10 years thanks to the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
Under-25s may be offered unnecessary treatment
Research suggests that the risks of offering cervical screening under the age of 25 outweigh the benefits. When you are under 25, it is common to have changes in the cells of your cervix (abnormal cells) and these usually go away by themselves.
Knowing about these cell changes could lead to treatment when the changes may simply have gone away on their own. It can also lead to anxiety or upset.
There are also potential risks with some treatments, including a slightly increased risk of early (premature) birth if you get pregnant in future.
What if I have symptoms?
Although cervical cancer is very rare if you are under 25, it is important for all of us to be aware of cervical cancer symptoms, including:
Remember, things other than cervical cancer could cause all of these symptoms. For example, abnormal vaginal bleeding is very common and can happen for lots of different reasons that are not linked to cancer, including:
What should I do if I have symptoms?
If you have any symptoms, don’t ignore them! It is important to see your doctor or nurse as soon as possible. Remember it is unlikely to be cervical cancer, but it’s still very important to get it checked out.
The NHS has guidelines for doctors and nurses to support young women and people with a cervix aged 20 to 24. It says you should be offered a pelvic examination by a doctor or nurse if:
The guidelines explain the types of questions that doctors and nurses should ask to find out whether the symptoms could be related to cervical cancer.
Some people find it embarrassing to talk about gynaecological problems. If you feel like this, you are not alone. But remember your doctor or nurse talk about these things all the time, so won’t be embarrassed. If you want, you can take someone you trust with you for support during your appointment.
More information and support
If you have symptoms you are worried about, or have heard stories about a young person getting cervical cancer, you may feel very anxious about not being able to have cervical screening. Remember, there is support in place if you do have symptoms and your doctor or nurse should be able to offer the right help and guidance.

Cervical screening for trans men and/or non-binary people
This information is for trans men and/or non-binary people, but may be useful for anyone interested or wanting to offer support. It explains the process of going to a cervical screening (smear test) appointment and aims to offer support with any challenges you may face.
Will I be invited for cervical screening?
Currently, only people who are registered as female with their GP surgery or clinic are automatically invited for cervical screening.
If you are registered as male, aged between 25 and 64, and want to go for cervical screening, you can:
There are also expert clinics, including some trans-led clinics, that offer cervical screening. Although these clinics can’t invite you automatically, you can book an appointment with one.
Telling GP surgery staff you are trans and/or non-binary
If you are registered as male at a GP surgery and they do not know you have a cervix, it is possible that the person you speak with may be confused or have questions about your request to book a cervical screening appointment. Equally, if you are a non-masculine non-binary person, you may be misgendered and talked to as a woman.
You have a right to privacy and you do not have to disclose that you are trans and/or non-binary to anyone. However, if you feel comfortable letting someone at your GP surgery know, they may be better able to support you as an individual and avoid situations that may be distressing for you. You could:
Taking control of your appointment
Making decisions about how you want your appointment to go can help you feel more in control. It can also help avoid situations that could be triggering for you. Here are some examples that may help:
Expert clinics
There are clinics specialising in trans healthcare that offer cervical screening. Some are trans-led and all offer a safe, confidential space to have your appointment and discuss any worries. Many of these clinics are in major cities, so we know it may not be possible for you to visit one. We hope the other tips on this page will help if this is the case.

Never switched a bank account before?

You should consider it. It is one of the easiest and most efficient ways of earning a little beermoney. It is advised to leave your main bank account alone. Instead, switch a secondary bank account, or open a new account at your current bank to be used just for switching. Recommended steps:
  1. Open a second current account with your main high street bank (must be part of CASS service)
  2. Set up direct debits on the second account (if required).
  3. Add £1 to your second account. This will be transferred to your new account, allowing you to see when the switch has been completed.
  4. Apply for a new account and arrange to switch to your second bank account (sometimes this is during the application process, other times it is after the account is opened).
  5. Let the current account switch service take care of everything.
  6. Make sure all other terms are met (e.g. pay in money if needed).
  7. Receive your bank switching bonus.
You will hear about lots of people rushing through all of the switch bonuses available. These offers have been coming and going for years, my advice is to do an offer that tickles your fancy and try out a new bank. Then, if you decide you do not like your new bank you should sample another bank and get paid again!

Are there some bank accounts worth keeping?

Why yes. Some are quite good, and give ongoing rewards. For example, Club Lloyds gives free Disney Plus. See the "don't leave us please" bank rewards post. Some also give access to the best savings accounts (e.g. regular savers).

The most commonly asked bank switch questions:

  1. I started to switch to XXX bank before the offer ended, am I still eligible for the bonus?
Yes, usually, most terms will state that a switch just has to be started (or applied for) before the end date or before an offer ends.
  1. Do I have to transfer the required amount in all in one go, and does it matter if I pay money in before my switch is complete?
No and not usually, as long as the amount you pay in adds up to the required amount, and as long as you pay it in before the deadline stated in the terms. There has been one exception to this - Co-op - so check individual terms.
  1. I need to switch "active" direct debits, does a payment need to have been taken before I switch?
According to Nationwide, an active direct debit is one that has been set up or had a payment taken from it in the past 13 months. So no, according to this. But why not just wait for the direct debit to be taken? You'll not have to worry about it then.

General Bank Switch Questions

Current Account Switch Bribes - Why do they offer them?

They want your business. Banks like fighting each other for customers. Most of them know they can't win by highlighting their outdated systems and products, so they fight each other by offering potential customers cash bribes (or equivalent) to switch their "main" bank account.

Can I switch any bank account to get a bribe?

No. You must switch a bank account that is part of The Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Most high street banks are included. But some Neo Banks are not (e.g., Kroo, Revolut, & Monese are not included). You should try to avoid switching your main bank account. You can always open an additional account just to switch.
See here for a full list of CASS banks.

Is it too much hassle?

No. The Current Account Switch Service (CASS) makes switching your account between most banks smooth and effortless. You do not have to do anything apart from apply for and set up a new account at a different bank and tell them you want to switch your account to them. Everything is transferred automatically (except recurring card payments).

Is there the best route to sample all the banks with switch offers?

Do the offer ending soonest first. Then you might switch again. If you complete all offers in this post, you could earn yourself >£1000.

Some of these end soon. Will the offers come back?

Banks have been offering bribes on and off for many years. We can't predict the future. But this is not a new thing.

How long does a bank switch take?

Approximately one week.

Do I have to switch my main account?

You could. But you don't have to. Many people have second bank accounts. One option may be to open up a second account with your current high street bank, add some direct debits to this second account and then switch it to the new bank you want to try out. On the sub, people also like Starling or Monzo as they are easy to set up (but you might want to switch back to them at the end - their functionality wins vs any usual high street bank).
High-street banks also let you open multiple accounts. If you already have an account with one, you might want to open an additional one with your current bank first (Halifax, NatWest etc are reported to allow several current accounts and to be fast to open).

I have savings accounts at the same bank as my current account. Can I still switch to this current account?

Yes. Only the current account will be closed (some linked regular savers may be converted to normal savings accounts). You might want to consider if switching to a secondary account is a better option.

I have linked savers attached to my current account. Can I still switch it?

Possibly.

Which banks let me open a second bank account?

Most of them.

Do I need to activate the card on the account I am going to switch?

Just do it anyway. Some banks require it

What details do I need to switch?

  • Sort code and account number.
  • Debit card information.
  • Usually, but not always, 2 active DDs on the account you are switching.

Do you need to have money in the account you are switching?

No. But it might be a good idea - this will allow you to see when the switch happens (i.e. when the money is transferred!).

I do not have a bank card with my old current account as it is very very old, can I still switch it?

Most online forms require card details, but you can usually switch such accounts over the phone.

My new bank has not given me my account number (e.g. NatWest).

Usually, these are sent via post/email when you sign up. But some banks don't have the account numbers on the card, or maybe letters get lost in the post. If this happens, wait for the card to arrive and contact their support. If you get a bot on the chat thing, type "speak to a human" repeatedly.

My new bank account is a premium account and it has a fee. Do I need to keep paying for this?

No. You can downgrade the account. But you should probably wait until you have been paid the bonus.

I don't like my new bank, do I need to wait for the bank card before switching again?

Yes. See question above. Most banks require the card details of your existing account.

I made an account just to switch. Can I switch before my new bank card arrives?

Best not to. You are asked to enter the debit card information as part of the process.

The offer says I have to pay in £xxxx. Does it have to be in one go?

No. You can transfer in and out. The total sent in has to be equal to or greater than the stated amount. You should be careful with this though, sending money in and out of an account can trigger anti-fraud measures.

The offer says I have to pay in £xxxx. Can I pay it in before the switch completes?

Yes. You can pay it before, after, or during. You can manually transfer it, or it can be transferred automatically from your old account.

I've been asked to verify my identity. Is this normal?

Sometimes automated checks fail. If this happens, you may be asked to manually verify your application by visiting a branch or sending in a copy of your ID.

I switched from Monzo/Starling and want to return, can I?

Starling does not let you return within 12 months. With Monzo, it's possibly a shorter one month that you have to wait.

Do I have to switch direct debits?

Check individual offer terms.

What is an "Active" direct debit?

An active direct debit is usually one where a payment had been taken in the last 13 months. But some bank switch terms require direct debits to have been paid out of the account. If an offer requires an active direct debit, it's safer to switch to an account that has already paid out direct debits.**

What are good direct debits to set up on a second account?

There are many: Paypal, Ebay, Moneybox savings account, Plum savings account, your credit card, Sprive Mortgage auto savings, Wealthify Robo Saving.

I recently switched to XXX Bank, and I do not like it. Can I switch again?

Yes. If you are not happy with the new service, you may want to switch to a new bank that will pay you to give them a try.

Do I have to stick with my new bank for any length of time?

No.

If I switch away, will the bank claw back the bonus?

Very unlikely. They would have to specify this in their terms, and none have ever done so.

My switch is complete, but I have not yet received my bonus. Will I still get the bonus if I switch this account before it is paid?

Probably not.

My most recent switch is not quite complete, but I have already received the bonus. Can I start another switch?

You should probably wait for the switch to complete.

Can I get more than one bribe from each bank?

Sometimes. With some banks (e.g. Nationwide), you can get a bonus for switching one sole and one joint current account. Other banks will pay you to switch again, as long as you have not had a bonus in a specified amount of time. You will need to check individual offer terms.

XXX Bank gave me a bonus before, can I get a bonus again?

You need to check the individual offer terms.

Will this affect my credit score?

Credit scores are a funny thing, What is more important is what is actually in your credit file. Obviously, if you apply for an overdraft then it will affect your "credit score". However, if you do not have an overdraft or you make sure that you have paid off any overdraft before switching banks, then a single current account switch should not negatively impact your credit score. Nevertheless, typically all major banks (excepting Monzo and Starling) do a hard credit search, and this will be recorded on your file. If you plan on applying for a new mortgage soon then you may wish to exercise caution in switching between a load of banks. This is because the hard searches performed by banks will appear on your report and may have an effect for 6-12 months.

Which banks do hard searches and which do soft searches??

See here. Most banks do hard searches.
  • Hard searches: Bank of Scotland (first account only), Barclays, Co-op, Clydesdale, Halifax (1st account only), First Direct, HSBC, Lloyds (1st account only), Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest, RBS, Santander, TSB, Ulster, Virgin Money.
  • Soft searches: Starling, Metro Bank, and Chase

I have a bad credit score, will I be accepted to XXX bank?

Unfortunately, we do not know the acceptance criteria of the banks. You might be unlucky with one bank, but lucky with another.

My application was rejected. Why?

Nobody here knows. You could try appealing, but your only way to find out more is to contact the bank.

After switching my account, I still have online banking with my old provider. Do I need this?

No. You do not need to keep the online access (you could shut it down). But you may wish to retain these details in case your old bank suddenly appears with an offer that makes you want to switch back. Or open up a savings account.

Has anyone else been paid for switching to XXX Bank yet?

Check the terms of the offer you signed up for. Some banks have long deadlines and stick to them (e.g. Santander, TSB). Some are quicker. If you haven't been paid within the stated terms, then you should contact the bank's support.

2024.05.28 20:53 Professional_Disk131 Element79 Gold Corp Reports Exceptionally High-Grade Results from Lucero (CSE:ELEM, OTC:ELMGF)

Additional High-Grade Values Continue to Support the Project’s Robust Potential VANCOUVER, BC / TheNewswire / May 14, 2024 – Element79 Gold Corp. (CSE: ELEM) (OTC: ELMGF) (FSE: 7YS) ("Element79", the "Company”) reports additional assay results from underground sampling at its flagship Lucero property, Peru, including samples up to 98 g/t gold and 2,034 g/t silver (sample 2508). Key Highlights: Significant Mineral Endowment : A total of 455 samples underground channel samples have been collected from this latest phase, representing nearly 600 kg (620kg) of mineralization and 650 kg of wall rock, underwent comprehensive analysis by our partners at Ore Discovery and unveiled significant exploration potential. Notably, results in 115 samples returned substantial values in gold (Au) (ranging from 1.0 g/t to 98.1 g/t), silver (Ag) (ranging from 0.7 g/t to 3,026 g/t), lead (Pb) (as high as 2.0%) and zinc (Zn) (up to 3.5%), highlighting the robust potential of Lucero’s mineral endowment. High-Grade Mineralization: Among these, 17 samples exhibited gold values surpassing 10 g/t, with 8 samples exceeding 20 g/t, and 51 samples boasting silver values exceeding 100 g/t Ag. Of particular significance are 15 high-grade samples with values ranging from 12.65g/t to an impressive 98.1g/t of Au, and remarkable silver values of 62.1 g/t to 3,026 g/t and up 3.24% Zn. These findings reaffirm the potential for exceptional high-grade mineralization. Geochemistry total Statistics: Total of 455 samples, 58% has grades over 0.1 g/t Au; 26% has grades over 1 g/t Au; and 9% has grades over 5 g/t Au. Notably most of grades below 0.1 g/t Au correspond to wall rock (foot or hanging wall). Next Steps: With this latest exceptional assay data, Element79 is poised for strategic advancement. These results transcend routine exploration work, they are pivotal markers demonstrating the Lucero project’s tangible promise and potential, serving as the bedrock for our forthcoming drill plans and resource estimation. “As we delve deeper into both contemporary and historical data, we witness the unfolding story of Lucero’s vast potential,” said James Tworek, CEO and Director of Element79. “Harnessing the comprehensive dataset will allow Element79 to set new standards in its exploration methodology.” Qualified Person The technical information in this release has been reviewed and verified by Neil Pettigrew, M.Sc., P. This process includes evaluating the past performance and future capabilities of Families Helping Families (FHF) as well as assessing other organizations' abilities to successfully partner with LDOE in this critical work."
A copy of this audit can be found below this alert.
For over two decades, Families Helping Families has received federal Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding from the Louisiana Department of Education to provide crucial support and services to families in need.
However, we are now facing a dire situation. Despite our tireless efforts to advocate for families and ensure compliance with special education laws and regulations, we believe we are being targeted by the LDOE for our advocacy work. This action will strip us of essential funding and leave families without the support they desperately need as of July 1, 2024.
This audit doesn't address Families Helping Families inability to support families. It is specific to the Louisiana Department of Education's lack of monitoring school districts to ensure compliance.
If you received support from Families Helping Families and believe families should continue to have access to this type of educational support, I urge you to use the sample letter below and contact the following people:

SAMPLE LETTER
Date:
Dear______________,
I am writing you as a concerned parent of a child with a disability. I recently learned about the upcoming loss of funding for Families Helping Families of Greater. I would like you to include a funding allocation at the June BESE meeting to ensure Families Helping Families continues to receive the funding they need to support families like mine.
This center has been invaluable to my family and others trying to understand special education. The support we received is irreplaceable, and without it, many families, including mine, will be left without the support and guidance we desperately need.
Families Helping Families helped my family understand our rights when the school district refused to provide services my child was legally entitled to. Your partnership with Families Helping Families of GNO is one of the most valuable partnership you have and if anything, you would be providing additional funding - not eliminating funding.
(Add any additional information specific to your family.)
I urge you to recognize the vital role Families Helping Families plays in the lives of families with children with disabilities. The continuation of funding for them is crucial to maintain the support families need.
Please take immediate action to continue using the federal funding you've used for over 20 years to fund Families Helping Families.
Thanks,
Your Name Parent of a Child with a Disability
