2024.03.14 06:08 Icy_Hearing_3439 S2000 without an Engine. Yay or Nay?

I’ve been looking at roadsters and I’ve always loved the s2K but they are super expensive out here in SoCal. I came across an s2K that someone is selling complete minus the engine. He has it listed for 7k but would plan on offering 5k.
However, I know parts are hard to find so I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Or is it? I looked around and saw complete engines ranging from 3-6k. I don’t plan on racing, tracking, or anything like that. It’s simply for weekend cruises and NOT some kind of investment.
I was also looking at salvage and wrecked s2ks but I’m tired of doing body work. I spent 2 years restoring my 69 Camaro so I have experience piecing things back together. Your opinions are welcomed. Please be nice 😊

2024.03.13 22:54 Old_Salamander_7479 I need this trunk module!!

I need this trunk module!!
It is for a 1SS and co told the 8" display, speakers, onstar. It is mounted in the left side of the trunk on the floor, and looks like an amp. Placing it on the floor in the trunk is certain to get wet so good job GM! 👏 . I really need this part, and I am pretty sure the sku# is 84233739. But I can't find an exact match with those numbers. You guys know I alhave the red camaro SS thst I post WAY too many pics of. It works, until it gets warm. Then the water damage in the little corners of the circuit board have rusted the solder enough that the right front speakers and sub cut in and out. More of an itritant....but I need the part so I can submit it to Geico to pay for. Mt trunk got wet because so eone thought wiring tailight by running wires UNDER the trunk gasket was A-OK. Any help would be appreciated. Salvage yard module is fine.

L99 Rebuild
I got a 2013 2ss camaro off of a salvage auction last year and It was making a ticking noise so I bought an upgraded camshaft and upgraded lifters and valve springs for it. Im partway through it right now but I recently got an injury that limits how much I can lift so I'll update more progress on it later.

Is high mileage v6 worth rebuilding
Long story short. I bought a 2010 camaro 3.6 v6 150k miles for 3k. Clean title, 1 owner, Older gentlemen, Carfax Service Record with on time oil change and filter. Timing chain with water pump replaced at 100k and 149k. Interior and Exterior is in pristine condition.
It supposedly had a bad oil pump but obviously there’s more to it. The car has a P0008 and P2119 so the timing is off and. throttle body is bad. The car was not driven for 4 years because of rough idle and start and he got sick so I got the car as it is. The car starts up fine to 70psi but as the car engine warms up the oil pressure drops to ZERO and there’s a fast hard tapping when the car is above 2k rpm. I towed it home and only started it one time to examine the condition. I changed the oil filter and noticed chunks of sludges in the oil filter compartment and filter. I’m pretty certain it’s oil sludges from 4 years of no oil change since it didn’t stick to my magnet screw driver or there was any metal on the oil drain plug when I drained my oil (oil was black but I didn’t see metals). I also noticed oil in the intake tube right out of the throttle body and believe it’s clogged PCV valves. That was all I had found.
Is the engine worth rebuilding? I understand it’s only a V6 but I did plan on learning how to rebuild engine through this car and hopefully more and get it running. I’m just not sure where to start and if the symptoms of the vehicle indicates that the engine is not salvageable. I have a daily and am interested in learning about engines so I would have time to spend on it as much as I could.
So far I’ve changed: 5W-30 oil and OEM filter. Oil pressure Sensor 4 Camshaft Sensors. 4 Crankshaft Sensors. VVT solenoid. Cleaned throttle body with cleaner.

My new Camaro luck is horrible
Finished it's first service last week of 500 miles. I was enjoying the car immensely and bam engine just fucking gave out. Clicks to start and dies immediately then power comes back after a few seconds... My luck with new camaros has been so problematic but my salvage title one was flawless..
No diagnostics yet on the issue. It's going straight to the dealership.

Mirror Tarnishing
The mirror of my 2015 Camaro is tarnishing. I went to the salvage yard to get a replacement and those were tarnished too smh. Anyone know a good third party mirror that fits well, or have any other solutions? Annoyed that this is even a problem and a new OEM mirror is like 200$

2023.12.20 20:51 Mean_Cranberry_7073 Camaro SS Salvage Title vs Clean Title w/accidents USA South Florida

So I have a dilemma i am looking to purchase a Camaro SS. I have always been a huge camaro fan and recently sold 2 89 Chevy Camaro Iroc Z28. I decided to buy a newer camaro. On the one hand there is a 2016 Camaro SS manual for $29k out the door with a salvage title due to it being stolen. Vehicle has 56k miles on it. On the other hand a 2018 Camaro SS with 99k miles with a "clean title" with accidents but no major damage. This vehicle is automatic and is $29.5k out the door. Person selling salvage camaro says mileage is more important than title. Can someone please give me some advice.

2023.12.16 05:46 maxxor6868 How much would a recovered stolen car be worth to a self-insured rental company?

Long story short with more details in my profile I purchased (in good faith) a Vin Swap 2021 four-cylinder Camaro with 40k mileage. Ownership isn't finalized yet but there is a good chance that unless it is a chop shop car the police will hand the car back back to the rental car agency (AVIS) that originally owned the car. Now the director of security management for AVIS told me that he reach back to me by Monday assuming the car is theirs but he said there is a possibility that I could purchase the car from them instead of going to the auction. I already lost 15k to the scam and I am not sure what value they possibly come up with. The car was heavily damaged cosmetically. It had dents, and scratches, was keyed, had an unpainted new bumper and front fender, broken headlights, and smelled like weed. Wasn't the the prettiest car in the world but as someone who loves working on cars I thought it was a decent pickup that I could spend my weekends repairing and making it look decent. Just looking for this sub experience in what would happen next. Would they sell it to me for $10k or less? I originally paid 15k thinking it was a v6 but would not have paid 15k for a damaged four-cylinder. Should I even bother to get my hopes up or should I just forget about it and cut my losses? How would insuring the car work? Right now carfax, nicb, and my insurance don't see the car even to this day as stolen so if I buy the car would it be considered salvage? Would I be able to get insurance for it? How does self-insured work for rental companies? I am having trouble finding a lawyer but one gave me general advice that it be weird (August 2022 was when they reported their car missing) for them to not have written the car off as a loss.

2023.12.15 21:22 maxxor6868 Bought a vehicle off Facebook and got scammed

I purchased a used damaged Chevy Camaro (I thought it was a v6) a few months ago that was a vin swap. The seller had a title and ID, and everything seemed legit I even used an obd2 scanner to run the vin. The title matches the VIN on the door jam and windshield. I bought a carfax and ran the VIN through NICB. Everything looks clean. I purchased with a cashier's check and we went our ways. While cleaning the car I found another vin that did not match any other vin on the frame, windshield, or door. This one was for a four-cylinder engine which ended up matching the actual engine inside the car. I immediately called the police and handed over the title and car. They could not find the car as stolen in their databases but did find a police report from a subsidiary of Avis in August 2022. It has been a couple of months and the detective on my case has made no progress on the scammer even though there is camera footage and an ID. It probably does not matter as she cashed out the cashier's check the same day at her local bank and if they find her it is getting blood from stone.
The detective isn't much help, to be honest. He has no update on my case with the scammer and he doesn't sound very motivated to even look. As far as I am aware from our last conversation it has been months and he still hasn't even looked at the camera footage from the bank. He says there is not much I can do and that the car will probably go back to the original owner. I talked to Avis through multiple rounds of workers as none of them could find the car in their records. I eventually got escalated to the Director of Security and he told me it was odd for them to not have any record of the car if it was from last year it was reported stolen but he says he might have found a record and will get back to me Monday. He told me if the car was not a chop shop car and that enough evidence was shown to be there they would pursue the car and best case sell me it if the car was not too damaged. It does have a new front bumper, some dents, new fender, it was keyed, and would need some serious work done to it comestically.
Do I have a case? I purchased the car for $15k and did not purchase it under value. To be honest, if I knew the car was not a v6 but a four-cylinder I would not have even paid 15k for a damaged four-cylinder. The director told me that a similar situation happened where a guy bought a mint condition truck 10k undervalued and they took the car as he was scammed in a similar vin swap scenario but he fail to do his due diligence as the car was in perfect condition and was severely undervalue so a too good to be true situation.
I talked to twenty different lawyers and almost all of them have said they have no idea what they could do in this situation even reaching out to my local bar association I could not find a lawyer that has expertise in this area. I found only two that had any kind of clue and one wants a $300 consultation minimum that I have not reached back out to because I don't want to be further down the hole and the other mentioned it was weird for the car to not be shown stolen publicity anywhere and that Avis should have written the car off by now given it a year later. Mind you my insurance did not say either Vin was stolen, nor did Carfax, nor did my local police station databases, and the only mention of a stolen car was a police report from last August that had that VIN on the case.
Do I have any way of getting the car back? I know it is damaged, will get a salvage title, and it isn't even the car I thought I had purchased but a car is still a car I can drive.

2023.11.23 00:58 htedestroyer99 Camaro a/c issue

I have a 2013 camaro that has a salvage title. The ac a few months back started messing up where it doesn't blow hot or colld air like it should, it depends on the temp outside the car for if it blows hot or cold air. Id it's cold out it only blows cold air if its warm or hot it blows hot air regardless of the temperature setting. I've checked the refrigerant it's good, the compressor runs like it should. The lines are all cold like they should be but it seems like it has no control on the air temp it's blowing. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated
