2024.05.21 04:29 featherwinglove Tightniks Run One: You Probably Should Go...

[Run Zero chapter: https://redd.it/1csb71x not every run will have a chapter; it won't be long before there are multiple runs per chapter.]
Portal load: Agility 1, Bait 3, Trumps 1, Pheromones 1, Packrat 1, Motivation 1, Power 2, Toughness 2, Looting 5, Discipline Challenge, 54 of 54 He allocated, 7.8% AP at start.
[This is probably the lowest helium load I've ever done, and sorta keeping my own advice on a recent Reddit post, Bait and Looting are up. Especially Looting, but it's not like I don't always do something like this.]
The human emerges from the glowing green mist and hits the ground. Groans. Pushes against that ground, trying to get back up. I feel really heavy. I'm not that fat, am I? He's got a dark blue button-down shirt on. A uniform? A shoulder patch. Rolls over- Ah, what's that? His shoulder pressed into something hard and metallic, He reaches over and his hand naturally seems to find a folding handle. He pulls it out from under himself and gets it up on his chest, sort of in a semi-comfortable position to hold it up and look at the screen while lying on his back. Some fiddling around the edges gets the power button pressed and the screen lights up with:
"Manual portal activation 1 successful: Void enabled. / 54 He loaded / Discipline challenge active / Total portal activation 955"
"Kakka," its one of his trimps.
'My' trimps? The human sets aside the portal pad and gets up.
Are you the guy? They all seem to be looking at him, as though they have a frickin' huge problem to solve and they need his help to solve it.
32s: First trap.
Do you bite? It doesn't matter much to us. The trimps look hopefully up at him through the trap's grating, We're so friggin' screwed.
I didn't think four of you could fit in there! He opens it and they all start following him around like imprinted hatchling birds. It seems his tactic of making a catch-alive trap confirmed to them that he was 'the guy' to help solve whatever problem...
26m42s: Z2c15, 58 pop, 7.7s RC with Z1/2; 29m44s: Fresh turkimp c25.
"Hey, buddy," he says to his first scientist, "can you speak yet?"
"Shijou?" it says, then it starts writing, "Hi Tightniks."
"Who do you mean 'Tightniks'?" he asks, "I mean, it's not like I remember my own name, but what makes you think it's Tightniks?"
"Tai," it points right at him with one paw.
"Just pointing at me isn't going to answer that," he chuckles.
The trimp's hands are quite prehensile, but it's hard to tell without it holding something, they don't seem able to make their fingers visually distinguishable. [Puchim@s all the puchidoru, although some have big round hands and some have small pointy hands; Takanya is the latter. Probably Final Fantasy Red XIII as well, but I'm not familiar enough with him to be satisfied.] This one starts climbing up his leg.
"Wait, wait," he stops it. It's a challenge to stoop in this gravity, but not as much of one as carrying a trimp. He gets down on his knees and back on his haunches and-
"Tai," it points again to a spot on his chest just left of his heart, then climbs on his lap and grabs his uniform at that spot, "Tai!"
He looks down and sees "Tightniks" embroidered into the fabric above his pocket. "Ah," he sighs, "Well, if that's my name, that's my name."
"Shijou," it gives him a friendly whack on the shoulder.
2h38m55s: Mskel in Z11c3.
"Hey guys?" Tightniks points at his bone box, waving his finger, "Does anyone remember where these came from?"
"Nope," the yellow one says.
"Yeah, there are 12 more in here than we got kills to account for," Tightniks says.
"I've been getting a sense of deja vu about just about everything," the red one points at the metal box on the strap over his shoulder, "That's a big exception. Any clues there?"
"It says it's for something called a DT Experimental Industries Time Portal," the human shrugs, "I have no idea what it's talking about, honest."
3h25m46s: Block PB, 0.3% AP sub-4h, 540 pop, 8.3s RC, no turkimp
That thing is beeping? He takes a look at his TPCS pad and he's got a message saying that he finished the Block in under 4 hours and there's a little attack bonus- Under 4 hours? It's been over 4 days!! Checking the time on the device reveals that the portal times in terms of a "map frame" out there in space, and the passage of time has been vastly dilated on this planet.
4h15m56s: Zone 15, 954 pop, 11.9s RC with Z14/60, no turkimp.
"Tightniks," the yellow one comes back from the second full bin to the filling third bin, watching the human fold up another of his very first inventions, the very first thing he built after jumping through the mysterious green phenomenon exiting the crashed ship, "Why in blazes are you building so many traps?"
The human had finished another and tossed it into the bin, then picked up the now ever-present portal control pad, gets it out of auto-sleep and called up the "Achievement Points" page. "I have this weird hunch," he says.
"Deja vu? That familiar feeling we always have?" the yellow one inquires politely, slightly tilting its head.
"May I?" Tightniks turns up his hand and waves it up and down in a lifting gesticulation, then points at the trap pile.
"Sure," the yellow one understands, "if you'll put me back down after."
The human sets the pad down, stoops at the knees and gets his arms under the yellow trimp scientist's front limbs and lifts it up onto that stack of traps with a grunt; it is an impressive demonstration of his improving strength against the planet's high gravity. Then he picks up the pad again and points at one of the blank purple squares near the bottom.
"You don't know what that is," the yellow one says, "Are we going after that first one that is readable?"
"Yes," the human nods, "it's for finishing something called a Dimension of Anger, whatever that is, before getting something called Bounty."
"Whatever that is," the trimp chuckles.
"No, I know what it is," the human says, "I remember it being access to a resource-rich area on the other side of a green Wall we'll find with our next map route. It doubles our resource production."
"That would be handy," the yellow one says.
"Hmm," he nods, "But all the traps are for this one," pointing at the third square in the top row of the array the pad labels "Feats", the second of three that are purple.
"Oh," a stylus materializes in the yellow one's paw, "Well, all it says is 2.5%. It doesn't say how to get it. Something to do with traps?"
"Something to do with traps," the human chuckles, "that's only convenient to do now."
4h29m46s...
Other trimps can understand the grey one better than the human, "Shijou shijou shijou?" is what a human ear would hear, but it's really asking the yellow one, "You mean he knew it was going to be here?"
"Yeah," the yellow one nods.
"Well, it's gotta be that pad none of us finds familiar," the grey one insists.
"I don't think so," the yellow one argues, "He showed the reason for all these traps to me on the pad, and the information is not yet available there."
"Well, it can't be just a coincidence," the grey one grumbles.
6h23m16s: Our first void map dropped.
"What is that?" The red one asks the yellow one. It grabs a stick and lifts the strange square object up by an edge from as far away as he can.
"I have no idea," The yellow one says.
"It seems to have some sort of cooling effect," the red one says, looking underneath it, having tilted it up with the stick, "Like it's not just cold, but actually cooling down, as though it were the opposite of on fire."
"Shijou," the grey one says, holding a note.
"It's a void map. Grab it with a blanket and put it on the cart please. - Tightniks"
"Shijou shijou," the grey one clarifies, "The new pad said 'void enabled'. Guessing it's that."
10h06m21s: Zone 21, 1975 pop, 19.6s RC with Z20/232, no turkimp.
"Ooooookay," Tightniks growls, "There is something off about this thing."
"Shijou?" the grey one looks at the yellow one with concern about their human starship pilot friend.
The human stoops, picks up the little green gem on the ridge between Zone 20 and 21, looks at it, huffs, and asks, "Any idea where this comes from?"
"Err..." the red one seems hesitant to say, "I think you made it."
"Really?" the human huffs, "How could that be?" Then he tosses it at Red, "See if anything reacts to it. It might be radioactive, so we should take turns to minimize exposure."
"Really?" Red's holding it now, "What makes you say that?"
"Because I'm pissed off for no reason I can figure out," the human says, "I think it's coming from-" he gasps, "Waitamint!" He starts searching for the portal pad.
"Frags," the red one says quickly, "I think it's arranging a route. You're good with maps," it tosses the gem to the grey scientist.
The human has his portal pad up and reads aloud, "You have the Discipline challenge active. Tweak the portal to- yada yada yada. Tiss tiss t- completing The Dimension Of Anger will cause Trimp damage to return to normal." He snaps his fingers, "That's gotta be it."
"Shijou," the grey one says hopefully, and has a map drawn within a few minutes.
12h30m06s: Portal, 45 He, 3.600 He/hr, 2098 pop, 18.3s RC, 1% AP for Portal-before-Bounty.
The last head of the map's boss monster goes limp as one of the fighting trimps' dagger points goes into it, and the huge thing settles on its tail, resting on the package that seems to be the prize of this map. And there's a popping sound, and then something mechanical.
Is that a scroll compressor? Tightniks looks at the package. The deflating monster's lifting envelope material drapes over everything underneath it. "Red, Shijou!" he snaps and points, "roll up that side of it. Keep this part from sucking down on the extractor nozzle!"
All fifty of the scientists jump in, literally, pushing the gas in the bag towards the compressor. Tightniks as well, rolling up the front.
Until he kicks, and nearly trips over, a smaller package that might be the explanation for the reason why the center of the monster's defense seemed to be a little away from the big package he could see. It's in the right place, he realizes. He gets it uncovered and reads stenciled-and-sprayed block letters on it:
"DT TIME PORTAL / THIS SIDE DOWN"
Perhaps the Dimension of Anger is so named because of the rage suddenly rising up in Tightniks' throat. It isn't so much as the free-floating aggression suddenly has an answer, there is definitely a fresh batch of rage and anger as he grips the nearest Dagger V, Mark 2 with both hands- ...I must have gotten used to destroying it at some point. He lets go of his weapon with his right hand first and dangles his left arm while holdi-
Refocusing on surviving the next few seconds, the pilot turns on the radar for the final approach and takes a last look around, then straight ahead at his forward camera and primary flight display...
He crouches, sets the dagger down gently, then starts clearing the debris from the box's grab iron. He tries to lift it- Damn, this is heavy!
Surprised at this turn of events, his two oldest scientists, Grey and Yellow, rush to either side of him and help out. They get it flipped over and read the other side of the device, Tightniks chuckles a bit at its predictability:
"DT TIME PORTAL / THIS SIDE UP" There's a square cutout in the middle of one side of it, with a sliding cover at the bottom of it.
"Thanks," he pats his scientists, "but back off, please." He gets the cover unlatched, and slides it open to see, first a big rainbow-colored wide data cable and card edge connector, then several fluid ports. "There's something missing," he says aloud as he gets the cover completely off and onto the grass, "this connects to some-" he's got the wide flat cable up in his hand, realizing what it plugs into. He looks at his scientists, lips trembling, "G-g-g-get the pad."
The grey one already has the survival data pad and offers it to him.
"No, the other pad," Tightniks clarifies, "The big one. The big one," he picks up wide flat rainbow cable and its edge socket in one hand, "It goes here," he points at it with the other. "It must have come with me end of the last cycle."
Both the yellow one and the red one bring it, one on each side.
"Thank you," the human takes it, gets its hinge lugs on the trunnions at the top of each corner of the cavity, then gets the cable connector on the card edge in the pad's base recess, "See, that's where it came from." It comes on:
"12h30m05s: You have completed the Discipline challenge, unlocking a new memory-enable coolant loop and restoring your trimps to normal combat discipline."
"Do you have any idea what that's about?" the yellow one points at the edge of the left side.
"That's-" Tightniks examines it, then suddenly realizes, "It's gotta be for the void map."
He's got a port cover open, and the bottom of it says, "NULLIFIUM/VOID HEIRLOOM INTERFACE"
"Shijou?" the grey one brings the blanket-wrapped void map.
The human clears an edge of the map; doesn't seem to matter which one, and then gets it into the slot. It disappears and the blanket settles down while the environment goes deep blue and suddenly goes super cold. "Hoe Lee!" he shivers, wrapping the blanket around himself, "I hope this isn't too much of a Napolean-Hitler Maneuver!" He glances around, but all the trimps don't seem to discomforted by the sudden cold.
12h35m24s: Void 1, 55 He, 4.369 He/hr, 2098 pop, 18.3s RC, first void AP 1% and 0.3% AP for 100 He simultaneously, we got a rare shield, but it's lame with attack, storage, and empty.
As the environment around them return to normal, the trimps cheer over the deflated corpse of the- ...whatever, who give a hoot? Tightniks finds a flurry of messages on the portal screen, two regard APs, one is about having recovered 10 He units, and the big one was about a "shield". Through the touchscreen, he enables it, and gets the status effects that it's talking about.
"Where to now, boss?" the yellow one asks, Tightniks can feel the draft off the cold trimps. They seem to be extraordinarily robust ectotherms, unlike him.
"Let's go back to that friggin' Wall, where it's warmer," he shivers, "We got that AP and could use the resources." As he leads them to the L15 route, he thinks, Maybe I did that void too early. It takes on the level of our most recently entered Zone, and the resources probably go up accordingly. [I did for character reasons after seriously considering running it at Z25 or 30.]
12h49m37s: Nursery unlocked.
"Four hundred thousand gems!" the human squeaks, "Are you kidding me?"
Grey and Yellow glance at each other, the former says "Shijou?" and starts doodling a real answer.
"I'm not sure if you've noticed, but young trimps have special diets for healthy bones," the yellow one explains.
"You eat gems?" the human gasps.
"Shijou," Grey says with a shit eating grin just above a little sign that says, "Babies eat aluminate, and gems are the best!"
"Do they like the taste?" Tighniks tosses a gem from the helium compressor in the direction of the nearest house.
"Uh-Uuuuh!" after it bounces off a paving stone, a yellow juvenile with red head fur jumps into the air to catch it in its mouth. [Puchim@s Yayo. Liek seriously, she jumps after pennies.]
13h32m59s: Zone 25, 84 He, 6.199 He/hr, 2217 pop, 52.6s RC with Z24/568, no turkimp.
It has an unusually light colored body, dark head fur that lies flat, and for trimp tails, wide and not all that prehensile, reminds Tightniks of a- ...he remembers what the animal looks like, but not that his home planet is called Earth nor that the animal is called a tanuki raccoon. Just the tail, the rest of the trimp looks like a trimp for the most part. Oh yeah, the mining foreman. [Puchim@s Yukipo] He turns to Red and asks, "What's wrong with it?"
"It's in a bad mood," the red one answers.
"I can tell," Tightniks glares angrily at the red one for a moment, cools off, takes a breath, and asks kindly, "Why is it in a bad mood?"
"We've never been out this far," the yellow one offers, "...well, with the portal captured at least. Now, it was in a good mood before it got near the cart after we started this zone. Something new on the cart?"
Tightniks approaches the mopey mining foreman and asks it, "What's the matter, little fella?"
It sighs, then starts struggling to climb [see 1x6] onto the compressor cart. Tightniks helps it up with a lift, then it goes to the portal pad and turns it on, opens up the coolant page, the challenges tab there, and sort of sighs and looks questioningly at him.
"Metal challenge:" the pad reads, "Tweak the portal to bring you to an alternate reality, where the concept of Miners does not exist..."
"Oh," Tightniks realizes, then huffs, "That explains the bad mood." He sits down with the mining foreman trimp and brushes its tail, "Don't worry, my friend. You'll be back after one cycle, and I'm sure I'll miss you and your miners. These guys," he nods at the scientists, "we're scared they wouldn't be back when I first used it on purpose, but they came back. If there's a 'Science challenge' later on, I'll have you and not them-"
The scientists flinch.
"It'll be okay," he assures the mining foreman he hasn't yet realized has fallen comfortably asleep in his lap, "It'll be okay, buddy."
16h11m02s: Gymnastic Z25 taken and gyms rapidly increasing now.
The 710 fighting trimps are majestic with their new gymnastic skill and nearly impossible to hit. Only occasionally did the gorillimp do damage. They took it down easily.
Then the dragimp they faced next blew them away with a fireball that made Tightniks flinch. It took him a second to get the dragimp back in his bee nickels. The next group was all ready to relieve their fallen comrades before they went down, even without the welcoming traps for the wild volunteers (of which Tightniks has just started into the 41st bin of ten thousand.) The dragimp can do nothing to them; anything that hits gets deflected by their V-8 shields; they never got sufficiently blindsided.
[Funny: V-8 is a veggie drink similar to clamato juice I can't find anymore, but it's really five-eight, which just happens to be the squadron number of the cast in Space: Above and Beyond. Herp-a-derp!]
19h11m12s: Spammed some random biome maps...
"Tai?" the grey one looks up at the human holding a little sign, "Last couple zones, you've been mapping a lot of random biome routes we never used. Is there any point to that?"
"Stats," the human says, fitting another one together, "Oh, and this," he tosses the trimp the completed forest route map."
As it registers in the portal system, the pad starts beeping and flashing its screen.
"What?" Tightniks sneers incredulously, "There's an AP for that?" He checks and sure enough, there's a 5% Achievement Point for making a 'perfect' map, by a full notch the biggest AP so far.
The yellow one was relaxing on the corner of the latest filled up trap bin, the 49th, notices, and leans back, "Yarey yarey..." shaking its head.
19h13m28s: Uberhouse taken.
"Shijou," the grey one stands at Tightniks feet holding a small book.
Tightniks takes a brief break from his trapmaking and stoops for his oldest scientist.
"Shijou," the grey one bobs the small book in its hands to offer it to Tightniks.
"Flush toilets and septic systems?" Tightniks reads, "You do this yourself?"
"Oh, don't you wish," the red one snickers, "No, it was in that perfect route you mapped up."
20h39m26s: Zone 30, 161 He, 7.794 He/hr, 4656 pop, 20N, 74.5s RC with Z29/1735, no turkimp, 2.5% AP for sub-60 He Z30 start...
"Oh?" Tightniks has an Ax V-3 over one shoulder and screws the helium hose connector to the portal system with one hand. He grunts, sounds kinda disappointed, sets the ax down and continues working on his massive pile of traps; he's almost finished the 55th of, he just learned, 100 huge bins.
The mining foreman had struggled up onto the cart to see, and just looks baffled. It usually looks a bit lost just as part of its demeanor, but this time it looks really quite confused, and makes rather bemused sounds too.
"Oh, what is this?" Red jumps up on the cart, sounding like it's gotta be silly.
The mining foreman climbs back down and spots a purple ore vein, makes a happy sound and pulls its shovel out of its back pocket to start digging into it.
[OC: This is not even close to an exaggeration vs. OG Puchim@s Yukipo who, in 1x2, just pulls out her shovel from nowhere and digs a hole through Project 765's indoor tile-and-concrete office floor to have a nap in the cold open of a 137 second long cartoon episode. Never run out of mushroom boxes! Also, 2nd season Golden Week gold medallion, she and Yayo dig into a volcanic island and hit an oil gusher ...you don't need to know much geology to realize...]
"Really?" Red groans, "Sheesh."
What's on the pad? "Hoarder: Have over 1 million traps at once, 2.5% damage."
20h48m06s: Gateways.
"Hmm," Tightniks pauses from his trap building and gazes over where they came from.
"Thinking of something?" the yellow one asks from the stack he's building under his feet as he puts the most recent trap on the pile.
"Yunno, we have a lot of territory back there that should be pretty pleasant to live in," Tightniks says, "You'd think we should be able to just map an enemy-free route that trimps can just sit down and live peacefully in. I'd love to be able to do that."
"Shijou," the grey one is at his feet with a massive shit-eating grin, not really "hiding" a big piece of documentation behind its back. Obviously it's not so dumb as to realize that it isn't concealed. It then pulls it out and offers it to the human, "Shijou."
"What's this-" the human gasps, "Are you kidding?"
"Shijou."
"Well?" the yellow one prompts, "Let's friggin' try it, shall we?"
21h34m53s...
For some odd reason, that quiet little mining foreman is on the trap pile, fiddling around. Seems to be trying to arm one, has the spring catch on-
"Hey, buddy!" the human notices, "What are you-"
SPROING and it goes flying through the air. Does a few flips and turns, and then sticks the landing, strikes a pose, and makes a happy sound. [op cit. 1x57]
"What the-" Tightniks says, scratching his head, I wonder how much more damage the fighters could avoid if they could do stuff like that.
"Shijou," the grey one is carefully copying out the trimpese from a tattered and dusty scroll.
"What is that?" Tightniks asks.
"Where mining buddy learned that flip," Yellow says from the cart with feet playfully dangling, "another gymnastic book we picked up a few NMEs back. Probably another chapter from the same book, actually. It seems to have been torn apart and scattered."
"Is that right, bud-" the human looks around, can't seem to find the mining foreman, "Buddy, where are you?" It can't move so fast as to get out of sight this quickly!
"Po-wee!" it cheers from the bottom of its latest hole, which is beside a pile of rich bluish-greenish copper ore, onto which another shovelful flies out of the hole onto it.
22h44m17s: Zone 32, 205 He, 9.016 He/hr, 9548 pop, 30N, 37.7s RC with Z31/2712, no tkp.
"You should probably go," Red whispers.
The exhausted human has just sat down for a nap after tossing yet another trap into the huge bin stenciled "61".
"Really, I mean it," the red trimp scientist gently sets a paw on the pilot's shoulder, "Listen to sense please. Charge all this helium and use the portal; it'll make us so much stronger."
"Only 392 thousand to go," Tightniks sighs, "All the ones I've made go to waste if I use it now. I know it's only a two-and-a-halfer, but if I go now, I'll never be in de-" his head slumps into the nodding-off of post-all-nighter fatigue, "moo."
Red and the mining foreman help the snoring human gently down onto his side. The former quietly asks the latter, "Do you think he's doing the right thing?"
The mining foreman makes a particularly delighted squeak, grabs its latest flask of leafy-flowery infusion, which is just now cool enough not to punish such a maneuver with a nasty burn, and upends the whole thing in a couple seconds. It then bounds off joyfully towards the big pit mine over there. It does not often lead the general laborers because of the gymnastic and shield driven block fight, which needs wood, but it happens to be doing so today.
Yellow stands next to the grumbling unhappy green lumber foreman trimp, who is standing on the head of its dual bit ax with its chin on the end of the haft sticking up from the head on the ground. "Cheer up!" the yellow scientist gently prods it in the elbow, "There isn't a Lumber challenge."
1d00h20m05s: Zone 33, 229 He, 9.410 He/hr, 10120 pop, 50N, 40.8s RC with Z32/3390, no turkimp.
"It's a familiar smell," the human says.
"There's no way we've been out this far since whatever it is that shtfed Trimp civilization," Red grumbles. [Word based on acronym SHTF, which stands for "stuff hits the fan" in its G-rated version. Long time ago, similarly derived "nsfw" was a kerbalese cuss word.]
"I think it's from before that," Tightniks clarifies, "from before the time loop stuff."
"I'm worried our fighting group is nearly a third of our population," Yellow sighs.
"Casualties bother you?" Tightniks asks, "I thought we talked about that."
"It's taking forever to breed up new groups, and these things, *snap* ow," Yellow didn't quite touch that one the right way, "you've got 661 thousand of are too small to help. If you don't go now, this will probably be our last Coordination and we won't be able to finish the next zone."
1d06h52m14s: Gymnastic Z35 finally away.
"Did you know it was there?" The red one asks the human as they watch the grey one transcribe another lost chapter of the Gymnastic book.
"No," Tightniks huffs, in a few minutes' break from his trap building, "But I'm not surprised, I hope it gets us Zone 36. In any case, as soon as I finish that millionth trap-"
The mining foreman makes a mournful sound.
"Don't worry, buddy," Tightniks pats it on the head, "I'll brush your tail again last thing before I go." He's working on bin #88.
1d08h00m10s: 12802 pop, 80N, 43.7s RC with Z34/5298, down from 27.4s; '31m00s...
Tightniks, wearing wool-lined leather gloves mixing shimp and bovimp ingredients, plugs the void map that they got from earlier in the zone into the portal, bundled up against the expected cold. He hopes that the fresh Gymnastic Z35 and Coordination Z34 will get them through it.
1d08h33m03s...
"Do you think you can get it back out of there?" Red asks the shivering human as he reaches for the portal.
There are a pair of ejector levers beside the void map slot which clicked when he inserted it, but the void map disappears, so it remained an open question as to whether they could get it back out. Making sure not to have his hands over the void map slot, Tightniks gets a thumb over each one and there's resistance like something is in the empty slot. He grunts and pushes down until they suddenly snap down, the ejected void map rematerializes. "Well, that's a relief," he sets it down and the starts doffing his coats and sweaters to let the warm air of the normal world reach him.
"Try again later?" Yellow asks.
"Yes," the human says.
"What, are you kidding?" Red scoffs, these things level up with the zones!"
"Later on in this zone, obviously," Tightniks grunts with a huff, and then turns to see the grey one holding its little sign with those exact words on it, can't help but smile.
1d09h08m09s: Snimp in Z36c74...
Having just finished yet another trap for bin #95 of the hundred that he needs for the million-traps AP, he tosses it in and looks to the front. There's not much left of that snimp, but it just killed a third fighting group. "The training bonus from running ten laps in an on-level map route doesn't transfer to the void, does it?"
"Shijou," the grey one says with a note of confirmation.
"And I'm getting close to done this pile of traps we need for that 2.5% AP damage bonus."
"Shijou," it says again.
1d09h08m21s: Snimp in Z36c75...
Tightniks sighs, "...and there's another one. So much for that void map with its heinous critically accurate fast voidsnimps and ugly boss fight." And he returns to building traps.
1d10h14m08s: Trying again...
"NULLIFIUM/VOID HEIRLOOM INTERFACE," Tightniks tightens the stuff around himself and then finishes getting the void map inserted with his gloves, and his fingers come together as it puffs out in a brief blue mist in the void environment.
"Timba timba," Tightniks hadn't even noticed that the lumber foreman was up on his head, pats him on the head, wants to get back to work. [No Puchim@s resembles the lumber foreman.]
"Oh, there you are," the human says, "Sorry, I wanted to finish the run with the mining foreman in charge of the resourcing workers. I don't know what's about to happen to it when I hit the Metal challenge."
"Who the devon talked you into into trying this thing again?" Yellow grumbles, looking up at the indigo sky and mysteriously shrunken and dim sun, hands- ...forepaws on its waist, not discomforted by the cold, but bothered by the re-attempt. [This cuss-word after Disturbed song "Inside the Fire".]
"Shijou," the grey one grins above a Rosetta-stone-like sign it's holding with "It was me." in forty-seven languages both human and trimp.
"Zone 37 is hopeless in the time it'll take me to finish building the traps," Tightniks says.
"Won't the cold slow you down?" Red inquires, "It seems to get to you for some reason we don't get."
"Timba timba," the lumber foreman confirms from its perch on Tightiks' jacket hood.
"Yeah," he huffs, tightening it down, "but it slows down the portal clock by the same amount, so who cares?"
1d10h38m48s: Voidsnimp in c12...
Even in the void, Tightniks has gotten used to the sounds of the combat and trimps dying en masse, but when he heard that voidsnimp screech, which is similar to a "drill" robot from an Earth video game he has almost totally forgotten called Descent (Interplay 1995), he almost involuntarily turned to see, Even way back here, they can damage us despite all that gymnastic training? Then it landed the critical hit and wiped them out, as all critical hits do on this void route. He still finished the trap he was working on before going back to the portal, "Forget this, we're just getting the zone blimp." He pops the map from the portal's void slot, and starts getting his void gear off. His uniform long since wore out, so he's wearing something much more cave-manny. [I picked that sound because that sucker was dangerous and terrifying and carried the nearly hitscan Vulcan cannon. There was no Descent II equivalent, but the Thiefbot was pretty annoying.]
1d10h45m30s: 1M traps AP for 2.5%. 1d10h47m36s: Zone 37, 345 He, 9.916 He/hr, 13120 pop, 100N, 33.6s RC with Z34/5298, 2774 pop short, no turkimp.
Tightniks had nearly finished the long procedure for loading and configuring the portal, then sat down with the mining foreman to brush its tail like he promised.
The scientist trimps tried to hit the portal's activation plunger, but it refused to travel the full distance closed for any of them. Quite tired themselves out trying. The only one not exhausted into total silence was the grey one with its exasperated "Shijou..."
The mining foreman refused to go to sleep, and watched intently as Tightniks finally reached over and set it home with one hand. Its last nervous little sigh was the only thing he remembered-
The ship is without power, and Tightniks can't run the radar much without draining the batteries...

2024.05.20 18:59 lambchopsuey A difference in perspective - "charisma"

This comes from Cults and Nonconventional Religious Groups: A Collection of Outstanding Dissertations and Monographs, "Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism and the Soka Gakkai in America: The Ethos of a New Religious Movement", Jane Hurst, 1992, pp. 204-205 and 235. Keep in mind that "NSA" was the earlier name of the current organization "SGI-USA", and that Hurst tends to take an extremely sympathetic, uncritical view of the Dead-Ikeda cult.
So in spite of the way it looks on paper, NSA's organization does have the small-group, personal quality that Gerlach and Hine say is the key to movement success.
I wonder how she would regard the SGI-USA's assigned (non)discussion meeting scripts. Where's that "personal quality" in reading off something you've been ASSIGNED rather than designing it for yourselves?
An essential element is the charisma of NSA's leaders. Theoretically, charisma is an event which takes place between a leader and a group. Charisma exists only as it is perceived in someone by others and cannot be artificially produced.
The flip side of this, of course, is that you'll often find that "outsiders" aren't at all impressed by the supposed "charisma" of people addicted to a cult; this is an indoctrinated view that must be adopted via the communal abuse that exists within this community of cult believers, who are so dedicated to "unity" (aka "conformity"). What gains an SGI member admiration within the Dead-Ikeda-cult SGI is very often something that is not highly regarded at all within mainstream society, as you'll see below in the David A. Snow anecdote.
It is a wholly subjective designation. In the case of NSA, leaders seem to gain charisma in the process of exercising their office. Perhaps this is partly the result of participating in an organizational structure headed by a charismatic President, which the first three Soka Gakkai Presidents clearly were.
Or not - nobody's ever accused Makiguchi of being "charismatic". This whole persona is something that was imported from Japan; it's an aspect of Japanese culture that really doesn't fit very well in American culture, but nonetheless is emphasized within the Dead-Ikeda-cult SGI, which has always been a Japanese religion for Japanese people. At the point this was written, there was still a LOT of Japanese-language terminology in use within SGI, effectively cutting SGI members off from the public, who did not understand their language.
NSA members would say it is the power of the Gohonzon. In fact, members themselves gain charisma by participating in various NSA activities, such as street shakubuku, giving experiences, or taking part in culture presentation.
From related research, David A. Snow identified these "NSA activities" as "performances" that were carefully scripted and choreographed - a "dramaturgical", or "theatrical" arrangement - for "experiences" here and "discussion meetings" here. A Japanese scholar described the Soka Gakkai's "discussion meetings" as "intensive indoctrination courses", and he wasn't wrong.
Someone who has this charisma is described as "incredible, full of energy, dedicated, creating happiness." It is difficult to explain how this spontaneous quality appears in such structured circumstances, but it does.
Only if one is unwilling to look at the obvious focus toward that end within the indoctrination. As I said, Hurst is a bit of a Dead-Ikeda-cult cheerleader.
Gerlach and Hine say that, in movements, charisma is communicable; and that seems to be the case here.
Note that it apparently doesn't occur to her that she's simply seeing another manifestation of "monkey see, monkey do", with SGI members copycatting their leaders, and SGI leaders copycatting their leaders.
"Charisma", as defined within SGI, has the characteristics of a façade, a performance in which a given individual adopts the idealized persona defined within the cult in order to impress other (both within the Dead Ikeda cult and without). The individual is praised within the cult for how much they adopt this idealized persona; behaving in a manic, effervescent manner is described and praised favorably as "youthfulness" and as demonstrating a "high life condition", for example. The Soka Gakkai believed that using the precious members' sincere contributions for kosen-rufu to build special, extremely expensive facilities reserved exclusively for Ikeda would "increase his charisma" (and then there's Ikeda's "chair dominance"), so you can see that, within Ikeda's cult of personality, there's a WHOLE lot of trickery and manipulation going on, all in the name of increasing Ikeda's "charisma". Ikeda was ALL about appearances - HIS appearance in particular. Useless wanker...
You can see how this focus on "appearances" has perpetuated within Ikeda's stupid cult:
[Top SGI-USA leaders] then went off on how when we create these big-ass meetings, we shouldn't have to look into the crowd and see, and I quote, "A bunch of old-ass motherfuckers" The words of my "superiors", not mine. I think this is when they brought up the idea of 50K to my co-leaders and me.
The way they talked about having "old-ass motherfuckers" in the crowd is like they almost don't like having anyone over 35 in the crowd, whether they look their age or not. Their willingness to please their Japanese counterparts to have "youth" just proved to me that not only do they LOVE and develop a pedophile-like attraction to youth, but at the same time, they straight-up HATE "old" people. Their expression for disdain is almost as if old people were the cancer of all the meetings that were taking place and that any effort made to leave them out should be executed immediately. Source
All about the appearances...
From the related endnote:
(5) One former NSA leader clearly had lost this charisma several months after dropping out of NSA. He seemed to be a different person, his energy and manner subdued. His life force, as NSA would put it, was at a low ebb, especially as compared to his vitality as an NSA leader.
I have thoughts about that verdict, but I'll wait until the end.
What actually happens in real life is that the person who starts spending a lot of time in the Dead-Ikeda-cult SGI within the community of the Corpse Mentor culties will begin to adopt their mannerisms, as is typical within groups, and to someone who is familiar with what these are, it's quite obvious, as you'll see from this observation by David A. Snow, in his book Cults and Nonconventional Religious Groups: A Collection of Outstanding Dissertations and Monographs, "Shakubuku: A Study of the Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist Movement in America, 1960-1975", 1993, pp. 147-149; I may need to expand on this in a later post. For background, Snow joined NSA as "an active participant observer for nearly a year and a half", and has this to say about the effect of his involvement on his wife:
Finally, I want to acknowledge the enduring patience and support of my wife, Judy. When I was contemplating prospective dissertation topics nearly twenty years ago, she indicated that she had no strong feelings about what I studied except for one thing. "Don't study a group of offbeat, religious zealots," she said. I did, at least from her perspective, and she paid for it dearly. For the better part of a year and a half she spent many weeknights and most weekends alone as I was out doing my field research. It was not much fun for her, especially when she was badgered about joining the ranks, but she grit her teeth and endured, knowing, or at least hoping, that this preoccupation of mine would pass in due time. It did, of course, but not without her patience and support. - from 1992, in the Preface, pp. x and xiii
Snow had some interesting "guerrilla resistance" techniques he came up with to maintain his image as an all-in member of the group while NOT participating in their zealotry - I'll give that its own post because it's kinda hilarious.
But here's something he noticed:
Given the emphasis that is placed on being a "winner," it is reasonable to wonder to what extent are members actually "winners" in their respective lines of work. That is, to what extent do they adhere to the directives and instructions outlined above when engaged in the mundane activity called work?
This is obviously a difficult question to answer, for it was well-nigh impossible for me to observe members at work. And even if I had attempted to do so, my observations would have been suspect in that my mere presence and their knowledge of what I was up to would have probably functioned as a cue that they were in a movement-related situation (any situation in which two or more members are knowingly in the presence of one another) and thereby compel them to attend in part to their membership role.
That in itself indicates a high degree of communal abuse, which is commonplace within high-control abusive community like the Dead-Ikeda-cult SGI - the fear behind getting caught not being "on", of being seen letting your mask drop by someone who might call you out to your SGI leaders.
As a consequence, it would be most difficult to generalize about the behavior of members beyond movement-related situations without relying on various subterfuge and perhaps unethical techniques.
The glasses + false mustache disguise.
There is, however, another possibility: that is when the participant observer accidentally comes upon another member or presumed member engaged in work, but who has no knowledge of the participant observer's membership. This opportunity presented itself to me quite by accident one afternoon during my tenure as a member, and was described in my field notes as follows:
My wife and I stopped at a McDonald's establishment in Santa Monica for an early dinner. While waiting for our order, I mentioned to her that I bet the fellow waiting on us was an NSA member. Even though I had never seen this fellow before, I sensed that he was in NSA because of the way he conducted himself. That is, he looked, acted, and talked as if he were in NSA. He spoke in short choppy and exuberant sentences - a parroting of Mr. Williams' style of speaking.
Americans don't typically speak in that manner, for example - it's an affectation developed through spending time around others similarly affected. Their leaders adopt the mimicry first; this then spreads through the membership - I saw it myself many times. This person noticed the same thing; several individuals in the comments there confirmed the phenomenon.
He worked at a frantic pace, moving around in an exceedingly quick manner. To be sure, most everyone at McDonald's scurries about when busy, but this guy was ahead of the pack. NSA members also scurry about, always making haste. He was also exceptionally pleasant and well-mannered. And he wore an enormous grin and seemed most happy - again like many NSA members.
So upon returning with my order I asked him if he was in NSA. Sure enough. He extended his hand, flashed an even more radiant smile, and asked what chapter I was in. We spoke for a minute and then parted.
Although one might question whether this outward appearance and behavior - the super smile, exuberance, and excessive animation - are reflective of an inner state or merely reflective of an attempt to project a certain image, an image suggestive of competence, happiness, and "winning," the important point is not whether it was a sincere or insincere presentation. Rather, what is significant is that this fellow's behavior suggests that at least some members take the above direction and instructions seriously and do, in fact, attempt to act like "winners," presumably in hopes of furthering both their own interests and those of NSA. And this is especially significant in light of such additional directives as the following:
To practice True Buddhism means to develop the attitude and ability to become the best worker, the best student, the best son or daughter.
For an NSA member to be truly worthy of the title, he should strive to be victorious and successful in society. Through this purpose, he shows other people the power of the Gohonzon.
NSA, just as good Calvinists, thus places a premium on "winning" in one's daily life. But unlike the followers of Calvin, it is not to win the favor or good grace of God; rather, it is to win the favor and respect of the larger public within its society of operation. - pp. 147-149.
Is the SGI still telling the members to consider themselves "ambassadors of the SGI"? SGI clearly expected all the SGI members to continue their performance in hopes of impressing others with how superlative they are - SGI leaders used to tell the members that their "high life condition" would draw people to them who would ask what it was that made them so different, what they did that created that result, and this was supposed to open the gates to widespread shakubuku. (It didn't.)
Now, back to the Hurst account at the top - her description of the former NSA leader here:
(5) One former NSA leader clearly had lost this charisma several months after dropping out of NSA. He seemed to be a different person, his energy and manner subdued. His life force, as NSA would put it, was at a low ebb, especially as compared to his vitality as an NSA leader.
I think we here at SGIWhistleblowers have a VERY different perspective on what was going on with that former SGI leader. Once you become disillusioned enough with the cult that you leave, you will have lost confidence in its teachings and recommendations. And let's face it - pretending to feel a certain way in order to project an image that has been assigned by others, that can feel exhausting, particularly for introverts! In fact, many describe feeling utterly exhausted by the time they finally decide to throw in the towel on the Dead-Ikeda-cult SGI - as explained here: "I did the right thing by leaving, because I couldn't have 'tried harder' or 'chanted harder' or done 'more responsibilities' by the end - I was absolutely burnt out."
Hurst doesn't even consider the possibility that this former NSA leader was experiencing trauma in the wake of separating from this consuming group that especially at that time was eating up ALL his free time (as described here). How he might have been in a more introspective mood as he examined what he'd been indoctrinated to do and be as opposed to what HE genuinely felt was right for him to do and be. In a conformity-pressuring cult like SGI ("unity", "mentodisciple"), all the members are expected to adopt a specific persona, identified clearly here (from 2010). They are expected to take Ikeda's self-glorying fanfic Mary Sue avatar and remake themselves in that image, even though it was a fictional persona. Those who are most successful at replacing their genuine selves with this cardboard cult-guru cutout gain the most praise, respect, and status within Ikeda's cult, after all. AND genuinely PHONY. I'm sure that former NSA leader was a much more authentic person, that "charisma" Hurst states that he'd "lost" simply being the cult-approved behavior required by the cult. And he's WAY better off without that!
I don't know about you, but when I finally ditched the dead-end Dead-Ikeda-cult SGI, I became somewhat withdrawn. First, I had no one to discuss my cult experience with (so important to processing what you experienced) because by that point, ALL my "friends" were fellow SGI members and of COURSE they SHUN you when you leave, but also, I needed to figure out who I was, what I liked, and what was important to me. So I started by catching up on some of the things I'd missed out on along the years, from being too busy doing SGI garbage. And a lot of this involved reading, watching different films and series, and just plain sitting quietly with myself. You can see a bit about the challenge that comes when one sheds an addiction like SGI here - and it involves becoming more in tune with yourself. Healing from an addiction requires that you become independent of everything relating to that addiction that colored your behavior, priorities, and overall worldview.

Imagine sitting at your meticulously curated dining table, a cherished wooden surface handed down through generations. But the thought of water spills, hot dishes, or the daily wear and tear keeps you on edge. That's where the BigHala table protector comes in - a clear PVC plastic shield that combines robust protection with unobtrusive elegance.
Its 1.5mm thickness ensures your pricey investment stays safe from heat, scratches, and stains, while maintaining the table's original appearance. Plus, it's a gentle reminder for those prone to clumsiness. The material is eco-friendly, waterproof, and easy to clean. However, it could be a bit wider for some, and while it's suitable for diverse tables, it may not fit all perfectly.
On the flip side, the clear color allows your table's natural beauty to show through, turning the protector into a subtle yet effective accessory. Despite the size issue, the BigHala table protector provides a balance between safety and style, bringing peace of mind to your dining experience.

I recently tried out this Clear Vinyl Table Cover Protector and I must say, it's been quite a game-changer for my dining space. It's made from high-quality PVC, which provides excellent durability and resistance against common household spills. The material is also waterproof and stain-resistant, making cleanup a breeze after dinner parties or casual family dinners.
What I particularly love about this table cover is its versatility. It works perfectly for various occasions, from casual meals to events like buffets or picnics. Not only does it keep my table clean, but it also adds a layer of glam with its clear design, enhancing the overall look of my dining room.
However, on the downside, the product's thickness was a bit of a letdown. The pictures on the website gave the impression of a thicker material, but upon receiving it, I found it to be slightly thinner than expected. Besides this minor issue, I've had no other complaints and would recommend it as a useful addition to any dining setup.
In conclusion, while the thickness might be a tad disappointing, the Clear Vinyl Table Cover Protector more than makes up for it with its overall performance. It's easy to clean, resists stains and water, and adds a touch of elegance to my dining area. Overall, it's definitely worth considering for anyone looking to protect their tables during various occasions.

I decided to try this table protector to cover the surface of my 5-foot office desk, and it has exceeded my expectations. The right angle edge and the clear PVC material make it both a stylish and practical addition to my workspace.
What really stood out to me was the softness of the glass-like material used in this table cover. It's designed with imported PVC and new environmentally friendly materials, which means it's gentle on your furniture while also providing a smooth surface for your daily activities.
One of my favorite features is the durability and resistance to distortion, hair pieces, and stiffness. In addition to protecting my table, it also provides a comfortable feel in the summer and retains warmth during colder months. Its easy-to-clean surface ensures it stays looking like new for years to come.
The size options make it suitable for various furniture types, including tables, desks, and even coffee tables. Don't worry about adverse weather conditions, as this table cover can withstand heat, cold, and frost. Plus, it's non-toxic and environmentally friendly!
Considering all these amazing features, I believe that the only drawback of this product is that it doesn't come in larger sizes for bigger tables, which might not be perfect for everyone. Nevertheless, it's still an excellent addition to any table surface in your home or office.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend the NECAUX Custom Multi-Size Clear PVC Table Cover to anyone who wants to keep their furniture in pristine condition and enhance its appearance. It offers durability, versatility, and an environmentally friendly solution for your table protection needs.

I recently got the BigHala Round Table Protector, and it's been a game-changer in keeping my wooden tables safe from scratches, spills, and scuffs. From the moment I unrolled it, I could tell that this was a high-quality product made from thick, durable, and eco-friendly PVC material. The protector has a clean, transparent look that adds a sleek touch to my dining and coffee tables without taking away from their appearance.
One of the standout features for me was its waterproof and heat resistant capabilities, which is perfect for those accidental spills or hot dishes. It's also incredibly easy to clean – just wipe it down with a damp cloth, and you're good to go. Plus, it comes in several sizes, so it's easy to find the right fit for your table or furniture.
However, the only downside I've encountered is that it can be a little challenging to get it perfectly flat and smooth, especially on curvier shapes. So, if you're looking for a round table protector that's durable, waterproof, and easy to clean, I'd definitely recommend the BigHala Round Table Protector. Just be prepared to spend a few moments getting it just right.

I love the smooth, high-quality material that's super easy to clean, making maintenance a breeze. It's versatile too – I've used it as a floor mat in my dining area and it's held up great! .

🔗High Quality PVC Table Protector for Dining Room

I recently got the Mophorn 90 x 44 inch Crystal Clear Table Protector for my dining room. I was pleasantly surprised by its quality and performance. The 1.5mm thick PVC material is not only waterproof and scratch resistant but also lightweight, making it ideal for daily use. One of the standouts for me was the high transparency, which did not obstruct the view of the beautiful wooden table underneath.
The table cover also did a great job at keeping the table safe from damage, all while showcasing its aesthetic appeal. In terms of usability, it was very easy to clean and maintain, which added to its overall appeal. Additionally, the cover's flexibility made it malleable, allowing me to easily flatten it out by heating it with a hairdryer or exposing it to sunlight.
However, I did notice that the edges of the cover were a bit sharp and could potentially scratch the table surface, though this was a minor inconvenience. Overall, the Mophorn Crystal Clear Table Protector has exceeded my expectations as a reliable, high-quality product that provides both protection and style for my dining room table.

🔗48" Round Clear Table Cover Protector

https://preview.redd.it/loxd59fmrk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e79c6b5637171d47ed1d8f9ef3ecac6a809a49a5
As a reviewer who has been using the VEVOR Clear Table Cover Protector, I can say it's been quite a game-changer for my dining setup. Its 48" round size perfectly accommodates my table, protecting it from scratches, stains, and even hot cups. I have young kids, so the clear design allows me to spot any spills that might be missed during cleanup.
The clear table cover is made from sturdy 1.5 mm thick PVC, which has been surprisingly resistant to daily wear and tear. It's also slip resistant, so I don't have to worry about dishes sliding off the table. Plus, its high-temperature tolerance means I don't have to worry about accidental burns from hot pans.
Cleaning the table cover is a breeze. Its waterproof and stain-resistant properties mean I can just give it a gentle wiping with a damp cloth. It's saved me from countless hours of tedious cleanups or unnecessary repairs.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that the table cover can shrink slightly if exposed to extreme heat or moisture. But as long as you follow the proper maintenance instructions, this shouldn't be a major issue.
Overall, the VEVOR Clear Table Cover Protector has provided excellent protection and convenience for my table. Its durability, ease of cleaning, and perfect fit make it a worthwhile investment for any dining or work space.

The 1.5mm thick plastic is not only sturdy but also transparent, allowing the beauty of the wood to shine through. I found it incredibly easy to install, and it fits snugly over my rectangular table without any creases or wrinkles.
One highlight of this protector is its versatility. It's suitable for all types of furniture, including round tables, coffee tables, and office desks. Another feature that stands out is how effortless it is to maintain. Just use a heating dryer to blow hot air on the table protector and expose it to sunlight for a perfect clean.
However, one downside I've noticed is that the edges can fold up if not properly aligned during installation, which might leave a little room for dust to accumulate. But overall, this table cover protector has been a game-changer in keeping my furniture looking new for years to come!

Once upon a time, I was searching for the perfect way to protect and beautify my table. I came across Bentism's Clear Table Cover Protector, and boy, am I happy I did! This 12-inch by 12-inch PVC plastic tablecloth is the epitome of greatness.
At first, I was a little skeptical, but after using it for a few weeks, I couldn't imagine my table without it. The high-quality material not only adds a touch of elegance to my space, but it's also incredibly easy to clean. I can use it directly with food without worrying about any reactions, thanks to its superior resistance to wear and tear, slip, and heat.
One of the aspects I love most about this table protector is how customizable it is. I bought one initially and soon discovered I needed a few more for other tables in my home. The best part? They're intentionally cut slightly larger for long-term usage, allowing me to trim them to fit whatever table I need to protect.
Another great feature is its wide applicability. It's not just for dining tables, but also for wooden tables, glass, and even marble countertops. I've used it on my home office desk, coffee table, and even my TV stool. It never fails to impress me with its stunning performance and aesthetic appeal.
However, I did notice one downside. Due to the material it's made of, it has a tendency to roll up if left unused for a while. But I've discovered some simple techniques to flatten it out, ensuring it always stays in perfect condition.
In conclusion, the Bentism Clear Table Cover Protector is a game-changer for anyone who wants to beautify and protect their tables. Its waterproof and stain-resistant features make maintenance a breeze, while its elegant appearance adds a touch of sophistication to any space. I wouldn't trade it for anything else!

Buyer's Guide

When shopping for clear table protectors, there are several key features to consider, including material, thickness, and maintenance requirements.

Choosing the Right Material

Clear table protectors are typically made from PVC, EVA, or silicone. PVC is a durable and affordable option, while EVA is softer and more pliable but may not be as long-lasting. Silicone is a more expensive choice, but it offers excellent flexibility and resistance to staining.

Considering Thickness

https://preview.redd.it/dktfo4vnrk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1519cbc8c07f88cd6fadfae6bd1f253fb412f004
The thickness of a table protector affects its level of protection and how much it may affect the appearance of your table. Thinner protectors may showcase more of your table's surface, but they may also be more susceptible to scratches. Thicker protectors, on the other hand, provide greater protection but might have a more pronounced presence on your table.

Maintenance Requirements

Look for table protectors that are easy to clean and maintain. Water-resistant protectors are ideal for quickly wiping up spills, and some models may even be dishwasher-safe for added convenience.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Measure your table dimensions accurately before purchasing a clear table protector to ensure it fits properly. Consider any additional features, such as corner protectors or cutouts for table legs, that may enhance the fit and protection of your table.

Balancing Appearance and Functionality

Think about how your choice of table protector will affect the appearance of your table. While clear protectors are designed to be inconspicuous, some may have visible edges or patterns that can impact the overall look of your furniture. Opt for a minimalist design if maintaining your table's aesthetic is a priority.

Investing in Durability

Durability is crucial when selecting a table protector, especially if you plan on using it frequently. Look for protectors that have reinforced edges and high-quality materials. This will help ensure your protector lasts long, providing reliable protection for your table.

Considering Extra Safety Features

Some clear table protectors come with added safety features such as non-slip backing or anti-bacterial properties. These features can provide an extra level of protection and peace of mind, especially if you have children or pets in your household.

Installation and Removal

Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installing and removing your clear table protector. Proper installation can help ensure your table remains protected and free from damage.

Kitchen Countertop Replacement: Materials and Cost Insights

Why Replace Your Kitchen Countertop?

The kitchen countertop is not just a flat surface. It is used for cooking and sometimes for eating. However, as time passes, even the best countertops get damaged. They get stained, chipped, and lose their brightness. So, why is it important to think about a new one?
Firstly, old countertops can contain a lot of bacteria. This is not healthy. Secondly, a damaged countertop makes your kitchen look bad. Nobody wants that. Also, new countertops, like solid surface, are tough and do not get stained. If you want a new kitchen look, think about changing your countertop.

How Often Should You Replace Your Kitchen Countertop?

How often should you change your kitchen countertops? The answer varies based on the material and maintenance. Laminate countertops last 10 to 20 years. Natural stone can last forever with proper care. If you notice tough stains or cracks, consider replacing them. Wanting a new look is another reason to change. New countertops can increase your home’s value. Changing them can be a good financial decision.
Here is a list of expected lifespan of each material:

Countertop Material Estimated Lifespan (Years)
Solid Surface 20 to 40
Laminate 10 to 20
Granite 20 to 50
Quartz 15 to 25
Marble 20+
Stainless Steel 15 to 25
Concrete 20 to 30
Soapstone 20 to 30
Tile 10 to 50
Glass 10 to 20
Slate 20 to 50
Porcelain 15 to 20
Limestone 10 to 20
Travertine 5 to 10
Copper 15 to 30
Recycled Glass 10 to 20

Kitchen Countertop Replacement vs. Renovation

In the realm of kitchen countertop solutions, there are primarily two distinguished approaches: full replacement and meticulous renovation. A full replacement entails the removal of the existing surface, followed by the installation of a new one, often involving a complete shift in materials and design. This strategy is recommended for countertops that have undergone significant wear or damage. Conversely, renovation typically encompasses procedures like resurfacing or resealing, serving as a cost-efficient alternative suitable for countertops in decent condition requiring modernization. The choice between these two methods should be predicated on the countertop’s present condition, financial constraints, and the envisioned end result.

Tips for Countertop Installation for Homeowners

Many homeowners think about DIY countertop installation. But it’s not easy. You can choose from many materials. These include elegant marble countertops and quartzite. You also have durable engineered stone like solid surfaces. Slate countertops are another option. Each slab needs sealing to avoid stains. Grout is used for tiles. Cutouts are made for appliances and faucets.

The size of your kitchen cabinets affects your project’s square footage. Costs are often by square foot or linear foot. Don’t forget to add extra square feet for splashes. The average cost gives you a rough idea. But the exact price can change. Additional factors matter. You might need a professional electrician. Installers may offer a warranty.
In the end, DIY seems good but has risks. Professional installation gives high-quality results. Some materials need special skills. For example, sealing marble or joining Corian needs expertise. Always think about the pros and cons. Consider what your kitchen needs. Make a good choice based on all these factors.

Popular Countertop Materials for Replacement

Countertops are important in kitchens. When changing them, material choice matters. Think about durability, design, and use. What materials are popular now?

Solid Surface

Solid surface countertops are made of 100% aluminum hydroxide and natural minerals. These materials are combined to make a tough and durable countertop. A great feature is that they don’t yellow quickly, so they look new for a long time.
You can cut, drill, and shape them with power tools, and they set in about 2 minutes. They are easy to maintain and repair. Also, they passed the CA65 test, which means they resist stains, chemicals, and bacteria. Because solid surface is non-porous, moisture and air can’t create bacteria. So, it’s a clean choice for your kitchen.

Marble

Marble is a strong and pretty stone used for many things, like buildings and art. Today, many people use marble for kitchen. Why? Because it’s tough and doesn’t get scratches easily. Hot things won’t harm it, and it stays smooth over time. Cleaning it is simple, and it doesn’t need much care. If you drop food or liquid on it, just clean it up. Thinking of a new top for your kitchen? Marble is a good pick. It looks nice, lasts long, and is easy to use every day. With marble, your countertop can look even better.

Quartz

Quartz countertops are basically a mix of quartz crystals and resin. This combo makes them super tough and they don’t stain easily. The best part? You don’t have to seal them like some other stone countertops, so you save on upkeep. They come in all sorts of colors and designs, so you’re bound to find one that vibes with your kitchen. If your kitchen sees a lot of action, quartz is a solid choice because it stands up to daily use without getting all scratched up.

Granite

Granite countertops are made from natural stone and they’re a hit if you’re after a durable, upscale look. They can handle heat, resist scratches, and if you seal them right, they won’t stain easily. But heads up, you’ve got to seal them regularly. Design-wise, each granite piece is like a work of art with its own colors and patterns. So if you’re after a one-of-a-kind countertop that can handle the daily hustle, granite’s your guy.

How Much Does Countertop Replacement Cost?

The cost of countertop replacement can vary widely based on several factors. Here’s a rough estimate of the costs involved:

Material Average Cost per Square Foot
Laminate 20-50
Solid Surface 40-120
Quartz 50-150
Granite 50-200
Marble 50-250
Just heads up, these are ballpark figures. The real deal can change depending on stuff like how tricky the countertop job is, what the workers charge, or if you need extra things done, like sorting out the plumbing or getting a new backsplash.

What to Consider When Budgeting for Countertop Replacement?

When budgeting for a countertop replacement, there are several main factors to consider:
  1. Materials: The biggest chunk of your budget will likely go to materials. Prices can vary a lot, so pick something that fits both your needs and your wallet.
  2. Removal: Taking out the old countertop can be a real hassle and might cost you labor. So, keep that in mind.
  3. Installation: You’ll want pros to install most types of countertops for a polished look. Factor in those labor costs.
  4. Shipping: Heavier stuff like granite or quartz might need special delivery, which can be added to the bill.
  5. Plumbing: Changing the sink too? Don’t forget you’ll have some plumbing costs.
  6. Maintenance: Some materials, like granite, need regular upkeep. Think about those costs down the line.

Why Solid Surface is the Prior Choice for Kitchen Countertop Replacement?

Solid surface countertops are a popular choice for kitchen countertop replacement for several reasons:
  1. Non-porous and dirt-resistant: Solid surface countertops don’t absorb stains, so they’re super easy to clean—ideal for hectic kitchens.
  2. High hardness: These countertops are durable enough to withstand the daily grind of a busy kitchen.
  3. Style-flexible: No matter your kitchen’s aesthetic, from modern to traditional, solid surface countertops can blend right in.
  4. Affordable: They’re generally less expensive than natural stones like granite or marble.
  5. Anti-yellowing: You won’t have to worry about them yellowing over time, so they’ll look good for years.

Conclusion

So, you’re thinking about swapping out that old kitchen countertop, huh? It’s a big move, no doubt. You’ve got to juggle a bunch of stuff like what material to use, how much you’re willing to spend, and who’s gonna install it. Now, if you ask me, solid surface countertops are kinda the MVPs here. They’re tough, they look good in any kitchen, and they won’t too expensive. But hey, it’s all about what works for you and your budget. So, take a moment, weigh your needs and your wallet.

2024.05.19 18:54 L0rem-Ipsum-Docet Charlie carries a part of Charlotte’s Soul

Charlie carries a part of Charlotte’s Soul
Because people don't make enough theories about novels, here's a short theory about them.
As we learn at the end of TFC, Charlie does not have a soul of human origin since she is an agony creature/an object infected by agony (I know it’s debatable, but it doesn’t really matter for this theory). Her memories therefore come from after the creation of her main bodies (after 1983) as well as from fictitious scenes staged by Henry to make his daughter believe that she had a life during the period of the creation of her body. As clarified by Elizabeth, before Charlie had a body, her memories were either those of Henry or memories made by Henry.
Basically, she has three types of memories:
  1. Charliebot's direct memories (for example, the events of TSE or her memories of childhood spent with her friends), the equivalent of our human memories. We know that Henry has access to these memories and can suppress or modify any memories he wants.
  2. Memories made by Henry, who used camera recordings that he filmed himself (for example, some of her memories spent in her father's workshop).
  3. Memories from Henry himself that Charlie absorbed as any agony entity would (for example, Henry crying with his daughter on the hill or Henry discussing with Jen about Charlotte’s ghost).
So far so good, it's logical, and all of the memories from this time could have been created by Henry without too many problems (since they are mainly memories of Henry working in his workshop alongside his daughter).
These fabricated memories therefore certainly date from the year 1983, or even 1982. We know that Charlotte was reported missing in October 1982 (or it was retconned in 1983, whatever) and that she was buried in 1983, which leads us to believe that Henry began his experiments around this period. In addition, Charlie mentions knowing her friends quite well when she was a child and was around them for at least two years (she mentions in TSE a passage of time of two years between the first and the last time she invited John to her house), meaning that they spent a few years together. So the period where Henry must have falsely manifested the presence of his daughter must not have lasted many years either, therefore easily explaining how he was able to stage everything without much difficulty for Charlie's memories after 1982 and before she got a body (it was only a matter of a few months).
This is all well and good, but what about memories from before Charlotte’s death?
At first, we can say that they should not be very complicated to reproduce either and that they are staged by Henry. They are mostly childhood memories, after all—basic memories from early childhood. But it raises some inconsistencies. Certainly, Henry could have recreated memories where he and his daughter talk at the Fredbear despite the place having fallen into ruin, but recreate a memory where his entire family is present? It gets harder... This is definitely not the second category. So these are probably memories belonging directly to Henry, right? And yes, it already works better. Charlie could just remember family moments and father-daughter moments via Henry's own memory by having his own feelings superimposed on hers. Except... what about the scenes where Henry is not present? The scenes that only take place between Sammy and Charlie or between Charlie and her mother (well, I have to admit, it’s not like there were a lot of scenes between Charlie and “her” mom—there’s only one for them in the entire trilogy), and where Henry is undeniably absent? What do we do with them?
And then, it must be said that the fact that Charlie so easily differentiates her feelings and those of her father, even when they are quite distinct, is a little strange. Since when do agony entities feel the emotions of a person attached to their victim and not of the person themselves? When Henry puts his rage into the fourth Charliebot, he didn’t put the rage he imagined the robot was feeling; he put his own rage. It's kinda weird. So yes, Charlie was able to reinterpret the memories, but to this extent? I’m not that shocked because… it’s Charlie. She’s already a bit of an exception, and she also seems to already interpret things in her own way, as seen in the memory on the hill and in the memory where Henry is talking to Jen about Ella, but still.
And above all… Charlie remembers her kidnapping. Or rather, the kidnapping of her brother who is in fact her sister (it quickly becomes complicated). It can't be a memory of Henry; he wasn't there. That's clear. We are therefore left with the second solution: Henry recreated this memory by filming the scene. At first, it seemed coherent. Henry just changed the fact that it was Sammy who was kidnapped and not Charlie, which explains this change without creating any inconsistency.
Except, first, that means Henry got up one morning and decided to shoot a film of his daughter's death (aaaand... surprisingly, now that I think about it, it's completely something that Henry could do. Well, I'm still putting it here because it's really twisted). Next, how to shoot this scene without Sammy? Well, fortunately, there is a fairly simple solution for that. Henry has conditioned his daughter to consider that the person she misses and who was kidnapped is her brother. We know that Henry can manipulate his daughter's point of view to a certain extent, and that could quite clearly be what happened in this case. As an adult, Charlie immediately thinks that her instincts to go into her closet and commit suicide are a manifestation of her brother (which is false). Likewise, Henry had no problem making her forget the fact that Sammy moved into the new house with them. So yes, if the scene is actually filmed, a young child would be needed to play the role of Sammy, but Sammy himself is not necessarily required. Which leads us to the question of which kid did Henry take to play in his macabre roleplay where he would have played the role of his daughter's murderer?
Another major problem: Charlie remembers being face-to-face with Spring Bonnie. How could Henry have known that his child was kidnapped by William when the case was never solved (I mean, Sammy could have talked about it, but if that were the case, why is Henry still friends with William if William is the number one suspect?)? And can we talk about the precision of the scene? Charlie's false memories are moments where she does not interact with her surroundings (for relatively obvious reasons such as a camera can’t talk and doesn’t have arms), unlike this memory where Charlie interacts with Sammy.
And then seriously. Why did Henry create such an atrocious scene?
For realism?
No one remembers the conditions of “Sammy’s” death in any case. People don’t even know he’s not dead at Hurricane. Why not pretend that his daughter was not present during the kidnapping or make her believe that she has forgotten this horrible memory?
Because he believes Charlie has the right to witness a realistic version?
First, this is not Henry's mentality at all (he’s the guy who lived in total denial for two years) and then Elizabeth directly says that the false memories serve to maintain the illusion that Charlie is a happy child and absolutely not a paranormal entity traumatized by her father's negligence and the incomprehension of her condition.
“He made memories for you; creating a life for her little rag doll, making her a real little girl. I am sure that many of these memories were carefully crafted and embellished (...)”
—Elizabeth, TFC
I also want to point out that Henry altered Charlie's memories in 1985 (before his suicide) to force her to forget every trace of Afton. We know that’s the case because William had already met Charlie before and probably studied her with Henry, but Charlie doesn’t even remember seeing him before in TSE. Henry is the only character who can manipulate Charlie's memories, so he’s the one who did it, even if his motives aren’t very clear.
Maybe Charlie just imagined the scene herself then?
Yes, but no. Firstly, because she would need to have cosmic gifts to guess that William was disguised as Spring Bonnie, and then because it's not really Charlie's habit to invent memories, even for events of which she is aware and which she could more easily recreate (for example, the separation with her mother, which Charlie finds strange not to remember, but she never reinvented a memory herself).
Just inconsistency and negligence on the part of the authors?
Yes, there is probably that. But now that it's in the final book, we can't just ignore the problem.
Edit : Has anyone read all this? No probably not.I feel like it's pointless because no one cares (probably like the rest of my lifelol). I shoudn't write when I don't feel good. I don't know why I did that it's not like my theories are good or anything, it's shit. I guess I just need to talk somewhere. It feels good to talk about things you like but i don't feel good right now. I just get the feeling that nobody is never here to listen.that's bad pride right?I'll probably delete this post
And this is where I propose my theory: Charlie's memories from before 1982 do not come from scenes created by Henry, nor even from Henry's memories; they come from Charlotte. I'm not talking about Charlotte's soul itself, I'm talking about agony or rather feelings in our context.
As explained by our friend Phineas in the FF, in the Fnaf universe, objects in our environment can absorb the emotional energies that we, beings of flesh and blood, produce. Phineas mainly focuses on negative emotions and feelings since he considers them to be the most powerful emotions in the world of Fnaf, which I absolutely disagree with, but it has little importance here. The important thing is that we introduce energy into receptacles unintentionally.
“[Human emotions] emanate from us or are excreted from us, if you will, like sweat or tears, and it wafts outward like a noxious cloud, soaking into the surroundings.” —Phineas, Epilogue 1:35AM
However, these feelings are not necessarily negative. They can be positive as it's suggested in the novels when Charlie says she believes in ghosts and Marla adds by talking about her own experiences in certain places which seemed to give off a positive energy. It is even quite logical with the fact that Henry's denial is an emotion powerful enough to feed the entity that is Charlie (even if denial isn't really suffering), and the fact that David seems to be able to put happiness into the Mimic even when he wasn’t aware yet.
So.
Wouldn't it be normal for the very strong feelings that emanate from a young child to be stored in an object that they rarely part with? More precisely, an object that contains very strong feelings to the point that they can be considered a source of energy would have every chance of being a transitional object, an object that toddlers use to develop emotionally and have a first control of their emotions—a cuddly toy.
Do you have any memories from your childhood? Probably. Do you have an object that reminds you of it? It could be anything, a book, a toy, a stuffed animal. You know, that object that appears in old photographs. Personally, I had a rabbit plush that I never let go of. It is an object that accompanied me in my childhood wherever I went, offering me comfort when I needed it, and I spent hours playing with it. Now, let's take a look back at Charlie's memories of her early childhood. These are pleasant moments that can mark a young child, almost exclusively moments of play and rest. Moments spent at Fredbear's, moments in the car... The kind of moments where it would be normal for a young child to have a toy, a plushie... maybe a doll? You understand where I'm going with this.
I mean, it's not like it’s an unknown concept in Fnaf. We can think of Simon, who talks to Jake and is not haunted by a soul, or even Tyler's Tag Along Freddy. And I will pass on the theories which propose a solution based on agony concerning Fredbear Plush in Fnaf 4.
When Elizabeth talks about her life (and death) to Charlie, she talks about her Charlizabeth phase in a very specific way: Charlizabeth's body received emotions but wasn’t able to interpret them before gaining consciousness.
“Of course, I could not comprehend those memories until I had received a soul of my own (...). Once I had endowed myself with a soul, I experienced those memories anew: not as an uncomprehending toy, twitching and seizing with an all-consuming rage I could not fathom, but as a person.” —Elizabeth, TFC
This is where it gets interesting. This is exactly what happens to Charlie regarding her old memories. They are memories that she has reinterpreted. Charlie is not a robot; she is originally a rag doll. And… well, in the end, we don’t know much about this rag doll. Her name is Ella, or Henry renamed her Ella, it's not very clear (not to be confused with the Ella doll, I know it's very confusing, but the doll we're talking about was not built by Henry). It was an object purchased in a shop rather than being made by Henry, and above all, it was a toy that belonged to Charlotte (biological Henry’s daughter, I mean).
Now what's interesting is that Henry cried into this object for days and nights, no doubt because it reminded him of his daughter. Even once the shock stage had passed and the denial stage approached, Henry did not part with the doll and kept it in his workshop on a chair. I would like to point out that this happened when Henry did not believe that his daughter's soul was in the doll but believed that Charlotte's soul was in another doll (the other doll also called Ella but which was created by Henry, the one we see in the novels). So if he keeps the doll displayed like this at home, it is probably because it has a very strong personal connection to Henry, and it was an important toy in the eyes of his daughter.
Let's imagine that this doll was Charlotte's cuddly toy, an object that she regularly kept with her and for which she reserved particular importance. The doll was able to integrate the emotions, feelings, and memories of its owner like any object in the world of Fnaf, without being animated by a conscience—a conscience that would only develop when Henry put all his negative feelings and his love for his deceased daughter into it (feelings obviously much more raw and powerful than the simple emotions of a toddler).
Now, let's go back to the memories in question. Charlie remembers the times spent with family, since she was with her family but in the form of a toy. She remembers the moments between Henry and Charlotte since she was with Charlotte and Charlotte's interpretation of the world was transmitted into her doll. Charlie remembers the play scenes between Charlotte and Sammy since Charlotte was playing with her. Which leads us to the kidnapping scene that Charlie remembers.
As for Elizabeth, the memory is a reinterpretation that Charlie carries out on Charlotte's feelings during her kidnapping. Not everything is real since Charlie was then influenced by her father (just as all of her other memories are biased. Charlie thinks she IS Charlotte the little girl when she was just her doll, a bit like how she identifies herself as Charlie in the memories she inherited from Henry, instead of interpreting them as being Henry himself).
Charlie is traumatized by this event, truly traumatized. Because Henry himself was traumatized by the event or for another reason? What traumatized Charlie the most was the figurative mutilation she suffered when her “brother” was taken from her, but her brother was never taken from her. Could the trauma not come from the brutal separation from her owner? It is also interesting to note that once Charlotte was kidnapped by William, Charlie only remembers the events very very vaguely and only vividly remembers the moment when her father got her back (the moment when Henry intervened and Henry was able to transmit his own memories to the doll). Before the kidnapping, Charlotte and Sammy were going to sleep (a situation where kids often have a plush or a doll with them), and we know that Sammy had a toy during the kidnapping. Moreover, if Charlotte was indeed separated from her doll during her kidnapping, this explains Henry's obsessive behavior towards his daughter's toy: it was the last object she had before disappearing, totally the type of object on which a father incapable of mourning would become obsessed.
To sum up my idea:
  • Charlie is also influenced by Charlotte’s feelings.
  • Henry (and William and Elizabeth, who based their work on Henry’s) doesn’t know this (he stopped caring about Charlie after he understood that she wasn’t Charlotte after all).
  • All of Charlie’s memories from before Charlotte’s death mainly came from Charlotte’s own memories.
Or in a form of a timeline :
https://preview.redd.it/me5uz2xxve1d1.png?width=722&format=png&auto=webp&s=27b372a8eb6605752f059e61a13836758b329dfe
Two things to quickly add about this.
Firstly, in a more general sense about the series, this reinforces a certain link between the three main agony entities (whether they are creatures created solely from emotions or those possessing objects) in the series: Charlie, Eleanor, and the Mimic. If we consider that the backstory about the pendant mentioned by Talbert has any connection with Eleanor (which is rather implied) and that she (or at least her physical body) was created/re-used by Talbert (already more debatable, but I believe it's a fairly widespread theory about Eleanor? I’ll leave it to those who know better to discuss this in the comments), it seems relatively interesting that the three most conscious entities purely constituted of agony that we know of are all objects that were linked to a child before being infected by more violent emotions from an adult. It might be a silly remark; I haven't delved deeply into Eleanor's character for this lol.
Secondly, regarding the novels: the memory of Charlotte’s kidnapping could be the element that made Henry realize that William was indeed the person who kidnapped his daughter. TFC suggests that Henry understood before the MCI that William was his daughter’s murderer (notably because he seems to recover Charlizabeth before the children's disappearances). I generally assumed that Henry realized the truth about William when the latter stole the fourth Charlie model, but it would indeed make more sense for Henry to understand via an external event.
The trigger event between William and Henry is not William’s theft. After all, William has no valid reason to suddenly betray Henry and jeopardize his cover and his restaurant project with the Twisteds, just to steal an unfinished model (if he could, he would probably have stolen the third model, which was likely much more advanced and even maybe finished). Henry would have understood by visualizing Charlie’s memories or she might have mentioned the memory to her father. Henry would have turned against William, and in the panic, the latter would have returned to steal the only model easily available. This also explains why Henry didn’t tell the police that he knew William was responsible for the MCI and his daughter’s death even though he was convinced of it: revealing his undeniable proof would mean exposing the true nature of his daughter.
Well, that’s all from me!
(Btw, I wanted to add pictures from the graphic novels but couldn't because they actually didn't understand the twist and represented the ragdoll as classic Ella. Seriously I hate these books).

2024.05.19 18:01 blechblurg Demolition experts?

Who do you hire for demolition? I have an open insurance claim which covers partial basement flooring. It doesn’t cover beyond that. I am paying out of pocket for additional flooring so the whole area is done. Before new flooring goes in I want to take down interior walls because they are old and there was water damage before we bought. And mold along the bottom where the trim was removed. Basement systems won’t do any demo unless you are doing a full renovation (which start at 50k for our size I was told) they will only install the floor. How do you find someone to do just the demo? I’d also like to put in a new well/window with the cutout for dryer vent (to replace rusty old one). Generally would like to do what I can to make my basement not look like the place where we hide the bodies but can’t afford full renovation.

🔗Premium Reversa Cardboard Shooting Target

I recently found myself in need of a corrugated clay pigeon target for my backyard shooting range. After doing some research, I stumbled upon the ReVersa Corrugated Target. At first glance, the design caught my eye with its brightly colored, 13 target-printed front that made it easy to aim at.
Setting it up was a breeze thanks to the pre-tabbed reverse side capable of holding up to 12 clay pigeons. I opted to purchase the ReVersa stands as well, and in no time at all, the target was set and ready to use. The portability of this target system was definitely a win for me, as it provided a quick and easy solution for my impromptu shooting sessions.
Upon continuous use, however, I did notice a few drawbacks to the product. The cover for the holes wasn't the most durable, and I found that the target would start to disintegrate after just a few uses. Additionally, some of the target features were a bit harder to see from a distance, making it challenging to accurately aim my shots.
All in all, the ReVersa Corrugated Target proved to be a reliable and portable clay pigeon target for my shooting needs. While it did have its drawbacks, it still performed its primary function well and provided a visually appealing design. As someone who frequently participates in shooting sports, this target would be a valuable asset to anyone looking to practice or test their skills.

🔗Rimfire Dueling Tree with 8 Spring-Loaded Targets

https://preview.redd.it/c31hegornc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bd26f62b80aaf020b3363c7d14213882f737f22
Cabela's Rimfire Dueling Tree is a fun and challenging accessory for your target shooting adventures. This steel target features 8 spring-loaded flip targets, providing hours of shooting enjoyment. The 4-to-a-side design is perfect for challenging a friend, and the wide base along with stakes ensures stability wherever you place it. The targets range from 1.5" to 3" in diameter, all rated for. 22 rimfire soft-lead bullets only.
In my experience, this Cabela's Rimfire Dueling Tree exceeded my expectations in terms of build quality. The targets are solid and well-built, making them durable and long-lasting. With proper care, they can handle even the heaviest usage during friendly competitions or practice sessions.
However, there have been some concerns raised by other users regarding the product. The target welds seem to break easily after a few hits, which is not ideal for such an essential component. Additionally, some users have mentioned that the spring mechanisms tend to get stuck, making it difficult to keep the targets aligned.
Despite these drawbacks, the Cabela's Rimfire Dueling Tree provides a fun and engaging experience for target shooters. Its unique dueling tree design adds an element of friendly competition to the activity, keeping things interesting even after hours of practice. If you're in the market for an affordable, yet engaging target shooting accessory, this dueling tree is definitely worth considering.

🔗High-Contrast Red-Fire Life-Size Bulletproof Cardboard Shooting Targets (100 Pack)

Recently, I had the chance to use the Red-Fire Life Size Silhouette Paper Shooting Targets and they really surpassed my expectations. These targets are perfect for training sessions, as they have a distinct red bullseye that's easily visible against their white background. The high-contrast silhouette makes it simple to track down any bullet holes, which is a great feature.
One particular thing that stood out to me was their exceptional durability, even though they are made of paper. Despite multiple shots, mine remained surprisingly intact, proving their impressive longevity. The 100-pack offers fantastic value, making them an indispensable addition for any practice range.
However, I did notice that they are quite heavy and can be challenging to transport or store. Additionally, these targets are specifically designed for handguns, so those using rifles may face some difficulty.
In summary, the Red-Fire Life Size Silhouette Paper Shooting Targets are an excellent investment for anyone seeking high-quality, reliable targets for handgun training. With their vibrant design, durability, and affordability, it's no surprise they have quickly become a favorite among shooters.

🔗Red Ryder Paper Targets (25 ct)

https://preview.redd.it/feif34dsnc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cc6956fbbf3b356b823e33e34fd39b458898b34
When my kids and I received the Daisy Outdoor Products Red Ryder Paper Targets, we were thrilled to see the retro 1940s style packaging. The 25 assorted targets are reminiscent of the iconic Red Ryder, with the familiar Red color and logo. As we popped each piece out, the sturdy cardboard stood out in our hands.
Using these targets for an afternoon of family fun, our expectations were high. However, we found that they are rather small, making it a bit tricky to hit the mark with our BB guns. The smaller size seemed to catch us off guard, but the kids still had fun using them as a goal to shoot for.
Overall, the genuine Daisy Red Ryder theme, sturdy cardboard construction, and assorted designs make the Red Ryder Paper Targets an entertaining addition to any family outing or backyard BB gun range. Though we had to adjust our aim due to the size, the unique style and fun factor easily outweighed any minor inconveniences.

🔗Economy Life-Size Paper Shooting Targets - 19"x25" 100 Pack

I recently tested out the Basic Training Silhouette targets, and I must say, I was impressed. At first, I was a bit skeptical about using cardboard targets, but these life-size human silhouettes with clear vital zones and scoring areas were easy to spot even at long distances. The reduced cost with just one color printing on durable 60 lb. bright white paper is a game-changer, making it more affordable for enthusiasts who want to improve their skills without breaking the bank.
One of the things I liked most about these targets is the ability to see my sights and every shot more clearly, which helped me better assess my accuracy and focus on hit areas. The targets are made in the U. S. A. which is a bonus for those who appreciate locally-made products. They are suitable for a variety of shooting sports like pistols and rifles from 10 feet to 40 yards.
Although I didn't find any major flaws with these targets, there might be some who find the durability of the cardboard unexpected. However, overall, I would highly recommend the Basic Training Silhouette targets to anyone looking for an affordable, effective, and user-friendly alternative for enhanced shooting practice.

🔗Fluorescent Yellow Cardboard Shooting Targets for Pellet Gun

https://preview.redd.it/yfqjjj9tnc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d95a0ffb0663ce85151db0a98528deaf0d4bda1
Atflbox's splatter shooting targets are exactly what you need to boost your accuracy and enjoy a fun and challenging shooting experience. These 25 robust sheets of paper, measuring 12" x 13", come in bright fluorescent yellow. They stand out, allowing you to instantly spot your bursts from a distance.
No more tedious treks to find your target in either indoor or outdoor settings. The vibrant color quickly locates the target paper, saving you valuable time you could spend mastering your aim.
However, they're not without a downside. The adhesive backing on the targets poses a slight challenge, but it's a small obstacle nonetheless, compared to the plethora of benefits they provide.
These shooting targets make it thrilling to improve your shooting game without breaking the bank, so give them a try!

🔗High-Quality Cardboard Shooting Targets for Indoor and Outdoor Practice

https://preview.redd.it/zz7ad5ntnc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de0fe4611b64a1fbbac9475c382a435f736fb835
I recently tried out Highwild's 13" x 16" Cardboard Targets for Shooting, and I have to say, it left a mixed impression on me. On the one hand, the design is quite efficient and cost-effective, making it a great option for those looking to save a bit of money. The size is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use, and the high-contrast black silhouette makes it easy to see and hit.
However, there were a couple of aspects that could have been better. First, the quality of the cardboard felt a bit flimsy, and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't last as long as some people might expect. Second, the scoring table on the back could be a bit more clear-cut, so it's easier to keep track of your hits and values.
Overall, while Highwild's Cardboard Targets for Shooting aren't perfect, they're an affordable and effective choice for anyone in the market for a paper target. With a little tweak or two, they could be even better, making Highwild an even more attractive choice for shooting enthusiasts.

🔗Fun Cardboard Shooting Targets for Parties

Spending a weekend at a friend's place is now a whole lot more fun, thanks to these Small Dart Battle Target Cutouts! They measure at a neat 20.5cm wide and are cut to look like the classic targets you see at the shooting range. The lightweight cardboard makes them easy to handle, and the design on one side can be used to create a battle atmosphere during parties.
To make the best use of them, why not attach them across doors, walls, and windows? You can even use them on tablecloths during a wild party, transforming your space into an action-packed zone in minutes. For an added zing, these cutouts can be used as part of your shooting games - just stick them against foam blocks or posts for all your friends to aim for their target practice.
The package includes six cute cutouts that you can use in multiple ways. Users seem to like them too! The reviews are brimming with positivity, with people using them as party decor, centerpiece, and cake topper. The ease with which they could be attached to a variety of surfaces was also highlighted - a feature that I found very practical during my use.
However, a word of caution: these targets are quite small, so if you're planning larger games or using hard surfaces, the darts might not stick as firmly as you'd like. But overall, these are a fun way to bring a touch of excitement to any party or gathering, making it a grand slam in the world of cardboard shooting targets!

🔗Allen Cardboard Deer Target: Life-Size Archery Practice with Organ Profile

https://preview.redd.it/ckahi3munc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25d589a1b14b28f207003be675548016c5c325f0
The Allen Cardboard Deer Target has been a game-changer for my hunting practice routine. With its organ profiles that show the best spots to aim for, I can confidently hit the mark every time. It's a life-size representation of a deer, which makes it feel realistic and adds a thrill to each shot.
One downside I faced was that the target had a tendency to wobble when I was aiming at it. However, it's a minor issue considering the affordable price point and overall quality of the product.
My favorite feature of the Allen Titan Cardboard Deer Target is that it's made of thick cardboard, ensuring it can take multiple shots before needing to be replaced. This longevity means I don't have to keep buying new targets constantly, making it an excellent long-term investment.
My hunting experience has significantly improved since I started using this Allen Deer Target. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable and high-quality target for their hunting practice.

🔗Premium Quality LE Target Silhouette for Hunting Practice

https://preview.redd.it/0qpo5j5vnc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a06f7d7b327cbbf6cd3f3113905b2ba83c1bc799
From my personal experience, I found the Champion LE Target Silhouette Cardboard to be an excellent addition to my hunting gear collection. Standing at an impressive 24 inches by 45 inches, the high contrast green design made it easy for me to recognize my shot placements instantly. As a hunter, precision is key, and with the wide variety of area sizes available on this target, I was able to improve my accuracy significantly.
What stood out to me was the high-quality materials used in its construction; this target felt sturdy and durable during use. Additionally, the scoring table was a handy feature as it helped me keep track of my performance and the number of rounds fired. While the black numbers on the target seemed a bit challenging to see, the high-definition printing more than made up for it, ensuring a level of detail that's ideal for practicing target shooting. I enjoyed using it and would highly recommend it to others seeking a professional-grade target.

🔗Stylish Cardboard Deer Shooting Targets

Using the Cardboard Deer Target 25 Pk. by Weaknecht in my backyard hunting practice, I found it to be a fun and practical addition to my gear. The cardboard deer targets showcase all the vital areas of a deer, which helped me improve my accuracy during target practice. I appreciated the two-colored design on the brown cardboard, as it made them stand out more, making it easier to spot them from a distance.
However, I did encounter some issues with durability. The targets are made of cardboard, which made them more fragile than I would have liked. After a few uses, the targets started to wear down, which meant I had to replace them more frequently than I anticipated.
Overall, I think these targets are a great find for those looking for fun and affordable target practice. While their durability could be better, they still held up well and provided a useful tool for improving my hunting skills.

🔗Enhance Your Shooting Skills with EZ Aim Shooting Targets

https://preview.redd.it/cvtybvzvnc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de33cf1230f7d9dc286e0d0399186708b7b7d0e8
The EZ Aim Silhouette Paper Shooting Targets turned out to be my go-to for a fun and educational shooting experience at home. These targets feature bright colors that made my target practice more enjoyable and precise, allowing me to see my shots from far distances. The high-quality paper targets definitely helped me improve my accuracy, consistency, and overall shooting confidence.
However, I did find the life size silhouettes to be a bit too large for my liking, but the 100-count pack was a bonus for me to try out different ways to challenge myself on the range. EZ Aim definitely lived up to my expectations and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to stay on target and improve their shooting skills.

Buyer's Guide

Cardboard shooting targets are an essential and cost-effective choice for recreational or competitive shooting. These targets are available in various sizes, shapes, and difficulty levels, making them suitable for beginners and experienced shooters alike. By following the guidelines provided below, you'll be better equipped to choose the right cardboard shooting target for your needs.

Size and Distance Considerations

Size is crucial when selecting a cardboard shooting target. The target's size will dictate the minimum shooting distance necessary for effective use. Smaller targets require more precision and typically work best at closer ranges, while larger targets can be shot from further distances. Make sure to consider the available shooting space and your shooting abilities when choosing a target size.

https://preview.redd.it/qvr5t6awnc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e261e2847a33888de701a97395419fb713d9d312

Material and Durability

Cardboard targets are generally very economical, but they can be prone to tearing or disintegrating upon impact. Make sure to select a target made of high-quality, thick cardboard to ensure optimal performance and durability. Some targets are coated or laminated to resist tearing, so consider these options for added protection.

Shooting Distance Markings

Some cardboard shooting targets feature distance markings, which can be particularly useful for beginners or shooters looking to improve their accuracy. These markings provide a clear reference point for the target's distance and can help you fine-tune your shooting skills.

Target Types and Difficulty Levels

There is a wide variety of cardboard shooting targets available, each with its own unique design and difficulty level. Some targets are simple circular shapes, while others feature more complex designs, such as silhouettes of animals or humans. Consider the level of challenge you're looking for when choosing a target. If you're new to shooting or looking to improve your accuracy, opt for a more straightforward target. For enthusiasts looking for a greater challenge, consider targets with more intricate designs and smaller hit zones.

Storage and Portability

Cardboard targets are generally lightweight and easy to store, making them ideal for shooters with limited space. Many targets fold or collapse for easy storage and transportation. If you plan on carrying your targets to the range, consider models that are compact and easy to transport.

Safety Considerations

Safety should always be a top priority when handling firearms, and this extends to selecting the right cardboard shooting target. Make sure the target you choose is specifically designed for use with firearms and is not too flimsy or prone to disintegration upon impact. Additionally, ensure that the target is placed at a safe distance from other shooters, spectators, and non-shooting property.

Cost and Value

Cardboard shooting targets are generally quite affordable, making them a cost-effective choice for most shooters. However, it's essential to consider the value you're getting for your money. Higher-quality targets made of more robust materials may cost more initially but will likely last longer and perform more effectively, ultimately saving you money in the long run.

2024.05.18 23:50 Snapppppppppp_ top 3 favorite sonic games? explain each game on why its your favorite.

1 Sonic Unleashed.

This game has always had a special place in my heart. Its my favorite for 2 reasons.
Reason 1 being, I have always wanted to play this game since I was a little kid. I never had a ps3 or xbox 360 growing up so I had no way to play the game. But recently this year, I picked it up and played it for the first time. On the night I got it, I got emotional because of how much I wanted to play this game as a kid, and now that wish has been fulfilled. And oh my gawd, it lived up to my expectations. The music was incredible. The high speed action was so fun. (Once I got used the qtes) And the story was pretty good. I'm not a guy that plays a game for story that much. I mostly just play it for the gameplay.
Reason 2 being, the main theme is my favorite theme in all of Sonic history. When I always listened to it, I felt like I was in the heart and mind of Sonic, while he was on the globe trotting adventure with his buddy chip. (Also the singer of Endlesss Possibility sang the phineas and ferb theme song. I grew up with that show and still watch it today. A platypus? PERRY THE PLATYPUS???) It was also the first song I learned on drums. :P

2 Sonic Frontiers

I have always loved the idea of open world games. The vast area of endless possibility. I could explore to my hearts content. Although my biggest gripe with the open world formula, is that you were normally pretty slow. After all, my favorite genre's of games were movement, and open world. so it would've been so cool to see someone combine them together. And that's when Sonic Frontiers dropped. picked it up the christmas of 2022 for my switch. And I loved the hell out of it.
The intense speed of it, with the amount of things to do was so cool. Also the glitches you could do were SO FUN. I loved the cyber space levels. And loved trying to get the fastest time. (the best level to speedrun imo is 1-2). Also the best soundtrack in sonic history. One Way Dream IS A BANGER. As well as Find Your Flame. I'm honestly really excited that they are probably gonna make another open world game.

3 Sonic Colors

Everyone has different opinions on this game as time goes by. But, I really like this game, the soundtrack is AMAZING, the story is simple but sweet, and its where Cubot got his first introduction! (Say what you will about the inclusion of Orbot and Cubot in the mainline games, but I really like them as Eggmans henchmen)
The gameplay is really fun. I will admit, I do wish the game had a little more 3D in it. 2/3 of the game is in 2D. But I don't mind it when the levels are still fun to play through. Although I'm not saying there aren't some bad ones in the bunch. (Lookin at you planet wisp act 3 and starlight carnival act 3).
I have always enjoyed the more comedic side of Colors. Sure the jokes are corny but, some of them are funny. Especially the pa announcements in the backround from eggman, I love those. My favorite is the one "Would the owner of a white hover car shaped like an egg please report to the front desk. Your car has been broken- WAIT WHAT THE HECK". I love the cutscenes where Sonic and Tails are interacting with each other, expressing their best friend kind of relationship.
What are your thoughts? What are your top 3?

2024.05.17 15:21 rocktopi New & need help finding this VS bra in a 32F UK /32G US - and padded push-up / plunge options for fuller busts!

Hello, my lovely fellow boob sisters! I need your help... My friend told me about this website/calculator and I've discovered that I've been cramming my 32F gals into a 34D and even sometimes a 36C for 2.5 decades now! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ For a long time now, I've been married to a now-vintage Victoria's Secret push-up bra, very specifically their Sexy Little Things bra that has the soft gel padding, underwire and keyhole cutouts on the sides by the straps - see examples here on Poshmark:
https://posh.mk/an2XUJGMFJb https://posh.mk/fwoXvW4MFJb
Currently, I own 4 of these in a 34D. I have loved them to the point where I have owned one since I was 21 (now 40) and even buy them pre-owned since they are not made anymore. I have tried so many other bra types They fit me almost perfectly, but I am curious to see how I would look if it were to be my actual size, and so I would love to find a similar style and give it a test run. I am also open to the other similar VS Sexy Little Things bras from the early to mid 2000s, for instance they had strappy ones with clasps in front, etc.
As I am looking on websites for my newly discovered size, I have noticed that most of the pretty and sexy styles do not offer padding. While my bust is very full (silicone implants that are long past their expiration date lol), I love a little "drama" and like to be able to hike my girls up in a plunge style but still covering my nips and getting some bottom padded fullness for under clothing.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, the features I am seeking are: - Plunge / demi cups for max cleavage - The soft microfibegel type padding that isn't rigid and doesn't create a bump under clothes - Pretty details, something that isn't too plain - Semi-seamless look under clothes, lace is fine but the really soft kind. - A very thin underwire in front connecting the cups is an added bonus, if you look at the structure of the examples I linked above.
All advice is welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks gals! ☺️❤️

Colonel Jacobs
His hands flew through the folders General Jorgenson and Colonel Thatcher had. There were dozens of them, stacked upon each other all filed in alphabetical order. It had only been a few days since he had woken up from his coma and visited his home— now his mother’s grave. He clenched his fists at the thought. The grief and rage threatened to bubble and spill over once again. He took a deep breath and dragged out the exhale, almost to the point where he had emptied out his lungs.
He was the only one with clearance, and so he couldn’t disclose any of what he learned with his team. They would simply have to trust him and his judgment. Which he was sure they would do. His hands went over one of the folders skimming through it. There were multiple secret projects, but the ones with the most notes were Project S.T.A.R, Project L.U.N.A.R.I, Project R.E.V.I.V.E, Project D.A.W.N, and Project T.E.M.P.L.A.R.
The colonel decided to start with the most notes and papers. Project D.A.W.N.
He skimmed through the notes, reading through some of the details and highlighted words. Project D.A.W.N, the espionage project Thatcher had started placed two spies in Verlin who were to report directly to a Crescent general named Sienna Moretti who was apparently on humanity’s side.
So I was right. There was an espionage element. With the recent attacks and Thatcher’s death, however, it’s safe to assume that it had somehow failed. Either they got found out or they betrayed us. Both seem very likely, but if they were found out, it would be possible that they had died.
He read through all of it before setting the folder down. There were no new notes recently. He sighed and assumed that Project DAWN was a failure. Whether or not the agents were still alive and well, it was too risky to check if they had been compromised. It was better to assume that they had been and cut all contact. The only way to find out now was to go there himself and check. I can’t contact them again. There’s no telling if it would still be Moretti or the agents who would see my messages. It’s a big risk, and judging by the state of things, best to assume it failed.
He picked up another folder. This one had the label ‘under development’ on the folder. Project Templar. He opened the folder and was instantly met with a blueprint and drawings of a massive bipedal machine. It looked humanoid with strange proportions and was supposed to be standing at an impressive 30 meters, or 100 feet. The Titanic Engine Mech for Personal Land Assault and Reconnaissance.
It was apparently a joint project with the Church of Sol, utilizing new and advanced technologies he hadn’t heard of. A 203mm Gatling cannon on one arm, while the other had three different weapons. A massive firestarter that utilized a new type of fuel mixture that could theoretically spew flames a kilometer away using a high-pressure nozzle. The fuel was ignited using an electrical spark. The second weapon was a high-powered light weapon that fired a single powerful beam of focused light that was even further amplified by layers of focusing lenses that could increase its output several times. Its third weapon was… a dust domina?
Mark read through the specifications of the so-called ‘sand cannon’ weapon. It was a massive cannon that accelerated tiny particles several times. Each particle was to be electrically charged, and it would travel at immense speeds. Near impossible speeds. The resulting impact of a microscopic particle at such speeds would be enough to form a small crater and punch through armor like it was nothing. This weapon would fire multiple at the same time, which could literally eat away at anything on the opposing end.
In terms of secondary weapons, the titan had two missile launch chambers in front of its shoulder each containing about 40 missiles, and two massive howitzer cannons on top of it. Both are 800mm in caliber. It had massive stumpy legs that served as bunkers for a small platoon on each leg. Each leg had machine dominas and 155mm cannons. Its chassis held two nuclear reactors inside providing for its power and weaponry. Its armor was the thickest and most ridiculous he’d ever read. Two meters of heavy steel armor.
How far are we in terms of technology? This thing looks like it came out of an H.G. Wells sci-fi novel. He thought, shaking his head. It was over the top, but there was no denying its combat capabilities. If it was already under-developed then it must be the first prototype. This has already been approved. Guess I better see it for myself later and check how it's coming along. Construction apparently started just a few months before the invasion.
Next was project L.U.N.A.R.I. It was a project involving Six. “Huh,” he said, continuing to read on.
The Light Undone: Nocturnal’s Adaptive Resistance Initiative. As he read further, his eyes widened. The reason why Six was so special wasn’t just because of her immunity to all strigoi weaknesses, but because of her impressive ability to turn any true born strigoi like her. She could transfer her strain like any other strigoi and transform them into a version of hers. It however only seemed to work for naturally born strigoi. The new species of ‘half-breeds’ were called ‘Blessed Children’ as Thatcher had coined in the folder.
The plan was to turn all willing true-born hemolite strigoi into these blessed children. Able to withstand the sun. Immune to silver. Free from the dependency on blood. They could remove all the weaknesses of the strigoi and after the war— make it possible to integrate them into society as normal citizens living on the surface. The project folder also made mentions of a city-wide draft in Dante and highlighted the possibility of turning all Dantenite true born strigoi into these blessed children and renaming them as ‘Lunari’. A mix of the dark and the light. The light of Sol reflected in the children of the night.
“Thatcher, what the fuck have you been up to…” Mark whispered to himself.
While it was true that it could help in the war effort by utilizing Six and the dantenite population, it would also invite some unforeseen problems and consequences. Would humanity be okay with the Lunari? Would the world even be ready for them? Strigoi who were immune to the sun. They wouldn’t be impossible to kill, but they would be immensely more powerful if we were to take away their inherent weaknesses. This is a gamble. Its gain would only be seen during the war period, but its unintended effects on society could be catastrophic.
He frowned, setting the folder down. It was obviously Thatcher’s main plan; seeing as all her moves could be traced to the path of the eventual completion of this project. It seemed dangerous in the long run, but the duskwalkers and dantenites had been monumental in the war effort. Maybe it was the time the world started to accept them more. Isolation and segregation was definitely not the way to disperse fears and foster understanding.
If Thatcher thinks this is the next step forward… then I’ll put my faith in her plans.
Next up was Project S.T.A.R, or the Superior Tech and Adaptive Resistance. An upgrade to the current hemolite weapons and gear by using new researched studies. The Starfire Pattern Domina. The SFD-23 This thing features a new loading system and magazine, ditching the rotating cylinder most domina used, or the rotating helix magazine design of the current hemolite standard BM-16 domina.
The new domina had its magazine like a box… a strange design but it was certainly easier to handle than the bulky cylinders the helical mags used. In terms of ergonomics, it was smoother and fit more. Its placement however was on top of the domina, just above the barrel. Most of the weapon were to be made of lightweight polymers and the barrel itself were to be crafted out of reinforced aluminium. In addition to that, it had a 10-inch bayonet attached to it.
There were other new things as well, such as the composition of the bullet. Looking at the conceptual cross-section designs, Mark read through its description and how it would function. A .308 cased telescoped bullet covered in a silver jacket with break-away petals surrounding the main body. Inside the jacket was a penetrator core that was to be made of depleted uranium. It had a small amount of incendiary compound and… powdered white phosphorus behind an explosive compound. The thin silver jacket would deform and trigger the explosive compound inside the body. It would blow up causing massive internal damage and release the incendiary materials into the body with the flecks of powdered white phosphorus. The penetrator core could still potentially keep going and hit a second target, or punch through heavily armored targets.
Part of the new Project S.T.A.R was overhauling the armor and gear of not just the Hemolites but the Hunters as well. Starfire Mk 1. Carapace Armor. Carapace? It looked like plates of steel covered in a rubberized coat. It was supposed to be slipped on over the original hemolite body armor. It added a spring-loaded wrist blade to the gauntlet, a thicker coat made of resistant materials, and added extra padding for the knees, shoulders, and elbows.
However, the hemolites weren’t the only ones mentioned in the folder. It was to serve the Hunters as well. “Hunters…” Mark said. “August’s group is part of this initiative too.” He flipped through some of the pages. There were blueprints and drawings of an armored suit. A mechanized suit even smaller and more compact than the jotunn units. The Mark 1 STR battlesuit. It was supposed to hug the wearer’s frame and increase their overall power. It was supposed to be built of titanium alloy and a heavy steel frame with composite armor. It had a cooling system, life support systems that could recycle bodily fluids, and an exoskeleton frame that could increase the wearer’s strength and speed.
However, the real eye-opener was Thatcher’s notes. She had been ranting about the new human evolution, and how the Hunters were the first of the ‘Solari’. She wanted to enhance human genetics and push past the peak of human ability to reach greater heights. Implants and restructuring of the anatomy to make it more efficient. Using the blood of the goddess herself. She must have lost it. These are the ramblings of a lunatic. At least… if she didn’t mention the goddess. Why was the goddess important here?
The writings ended with the words: “See Project R.E.V.I.V.E, for more details.”
Mark eyed the final folder. His hands shook as he reached out to take it. Flipping it open, his hands nearly dropped it in shock. The goddess Helena was alive. There were pictures of her naked form floating in a giant tube of fluid. There were more of Thatcher’s ramblings and excited rants about the possibilities of such a discovery. Resurrection, Enhancement, and Veneration: Implementation of Visionary Evolution.
The goddess is alive?! According to the file, she’s currently under the Cathedral of New Lundun. Not only that, but the file also detailed the extraterrestrial tech that lay beneath the cathedral. So the goddess is real and she’s— not really a goddess, but rather, a vampyr who created herself a human body to stand in the sun, and decided that it wants to be on humanity’s side… what the fuck.
Mark’s frown and confusion only increased as he read on. Thatcher’s notes seemed to nearly descend into madness as she had written about creating ‘the first hundred’, alluding to the 100 members of the Hunters division. Her plan was to revive the goddess, and with her help and expertise in genetics— use her DNA to transform the Hunters into demi-humans. Super soldiers. Literal children of the goddess Helena. They would then don the STR battlesuits, the first of the superhuman warriors to defend humanity. Solari.
Their lightning-speed advancement into technology was heralded by studying the alien tech, which deepened the understanding of physics and engineering. Nuclear technologies, chemical warfare, new material sciences, the mechs, and walkers, it was spearheaded by trying to reverse-engineer technology centuries ahead of our own… for the past hundred years. It wasn’t completely stolen, however. More or less borrowed ideas that had been made into our own with our own designs and implements. Still, the speed at which the Church and the military had deciphered such advancements all by themselves was… impressive to say the least.
Still, the fact that the goddess was alive, and could be brought back was big news. Checking the file for details, he found that the previous general, Jorgenson, had already approved this project. It was their next step as soon as they returned from New Amsterdam; which never happened.
If Helena was alive, then she could end this war swiftly, or at the very least help greatly like she once did during the War of Darkness. Having the goddess back would throw a massive wrench in the Crescent’s plans. It would certainly be something they wouldn’t expect. Not even I expected this, since many sources say that the goddess had already ascended to watch over humanity, while conspiracy theorists claim she had died in battle and that the Church was worshiping a corpse. This could be the trick up our sleeves that no one would even consider.
The colonel quickly got up from his seat and gathered the main files he had read. He placed them in a bag and rushed outside of his office in Facility 9. He went over to a nearby room and flicked the lights on. “We need to go,” he said. In an instant seven hemolite soldiers got up from whatever they were doing and instantly stood in line.
“Sir! Whatever you need of us, sir,” the group said in unison.
They were Hemo-1. His former squad members. He had taken up Louis' suggestion that they be his personal security detail. It was a shame that he had basically placed the best hemolite team out of commission, but after all he had been through he convinced himself that he could be just a little selfish. He didn’t want to lose any more friends. Not on his watch. Not while he was in an office, and they were out fighting.
“We’re going to New Lundun. Better pack up, it’s going to be a long night.”
“Mark,” Olivia said.
Jacobs turned to her direction and gave her a nod.
“Colonel, sir, may I ask where in New Lundun?”
“Liv, you don’t need to do that with me. Please. I give all of you special permission,” the colonel groaned. “It’s so weird. I mean, ‘captain’ was bad enough, but now you’re acting like I’m an authority figure.”
“You… are, though,” Emma shrugged.
“I’m your friend, and Liv I’m literally your partner. Unless you have some kind of weird fetish, save it for later.”
Olivia grinned, shaking her head. “Duly noted!” she chirped.
“That’s better,” Mark chuckled. “Now come on, we have a cathedral to visit.”
“Uhh, I’m not sure if you noticed, but we’re kinda… strigoi?!” Louis groaned. “I’d burn the moment I step in that place! Plus, it’s coated in silver! Anything I even touch will give me burns!”
“Oh come on, Lou. You have fucking gloves on. As long as you’re not a clumsy dumbass you’ll be fine… oh wait.’
“Uh huh, just sayin’ what I think, boss.”
The group headed out and Mark said something on his radio. He then sat on the ground, making his joints pop. The rest of the squad shrugged and followed his example, sitting down on the grass and waiting for… nothing. Charles and Zach looked at each other in confusion. “Uh, sir?” they asked. “Aren’t we supposed to be heading out and traveling right now?”
“Oh yeah, we’re just waiting.”
“Foooor…?”
The colonel gave them a smirk as a loud noise began to make itself known. A hummingbird transport appeared out of the distance and stopped right above them, slowly descending into the grass. “Being colonel has its perks,” Mark said with a smile. He stood up and hopped inside the hummingbird as soon as it landed. “Come on now! We’ve got work to do! Last one aboard buys everyone food later!”
Emma zipped in before Mark could even finish his sentence, followed by Olivia, Phineas, Charles, Zach, and then Louis, who sadly took too long to process what the colonel said, and lagged behind.
“Aw, man! Fuck this shit.”
“Rules are rules, Lou. Prepare your wallet later.” Mark grinned.
With a smile, the colonel pulled Olivia to his side, who blushed for a moment before shaking her head. “Take us up! New Lundun Cathedral! How long would it take?” he asked the pilot.
“About an hour and a half!” The pilot replied. “Less if you want to get there as soon as possible!”
“Take your time! The night’s still young.”
The hummingbird started to lift up, taking them into the air. The group settled down in their seats and watched outside the open. Mark opened up a bag inside the hummingbird and took out some ear muffs built for a strigoi. Extremely loud noises were damaging for a strigoi’s enhanced hearing, so the military started implementing ear muffs for them after complaints from early deployments of the hemolite squads.
The trip didn’t take too long. In only an hour and twenty minutes they had arrived at the safe zone of New Lundun, heading straight for the cathedral. The night mass had just ended and people were leaving the cathedral. “Looks like we made it in perfect time!” Mark smiled. They hovered for a few minutes in the air before eventually landing down right in front of the statue of Helena.
As soon as they landed, the colonel and his group left the hummingbird. Mark instructed the pilot to wait for them. He went straight for the cathedral with his group following behind. He entered inside, clearing his throat. “Hello?”
“Well this is surely unexpected,” an old man said, walking up to greet them.
“Great Grandfather Aurelius. It’s uh, an honor.”
“Please. The honor is mine… I see you’re the new colonel. Yes, I’ve heard the news,” he said. “Would you mind telling me your name, young man? As well as your companions, if they feel so. I usually don’t allow duskwalkers here but, I have nothing against them. I’ll make an exception for your group.”
“Thank you, Great Grandfather,” Mark replied. “I am Colonel Mark Jacobs. These are my friends and security detail. Olivia, Zach, Phineas, Charles, Emma, and Louis.”
“I see, and what brings you here?”
“Since Thatcher’s demise, I was given access to her research and project folders upon taking up the title. I’ve learned about what’s under your cathedral,” Mark cleared his throat. “Would it be alright if we could see it? I’d like to check it for myself. Of course, under your permission and guidance, Great Grandfather.”
The church head looked from Mark to his companions. He pulled a slight frown and hummed. “Do these companions of yours have the clearance? Surely, we wish to keep our secrets hidden,” he said. Mark nodded.
“They do not have clearance to know what is in Thatcher’s folders and her findings,” the colonel nodded. “However, I give them permission to accompany me, and should they discover things for themselves, then you have my word and my trust that I can keep them from spilling state secrets.”
The Great Grandfather gave a short pause before ultimately relenting. “Very well,” he let out a sigh. “Follow me.”
Aurelius walked behind the altar and pulled the same lever, which opened the same staircase leading underground, where Jorgenson and Thatcher had once gone. “Over here, colonel,” he said. “I do not know you completely yet, but this is a big deal of trust I am giving you. Perhaps you would be the one to do things that Thatcher could not have.”
Mark nodded, he and his group followed the Great Grandfather down the staircase. It led down to a massive underground facility, with numerous priests, researchers, and scientists. Libraries, records, instruments, and artifacts of old. It was a treasure trove of learning.
“So,” Aurelius cleared his throat. “What would you like to know about?”
“This isn’t all of it,” Mark said. “Thatcher mentioned a living, breathing, Helena.”
His group behind him let out a soft gasp, but they tried their best to hide their surprise.
“Hm,” the Great Grandfather nodded. “Perceptive young man aren’t you? Very well.”
They were then led into another room, behind a set of heavy blast doors. If the whole group were trying to hide their surprise then, now they could barely contain it. Even the colonel stared awestruck at the things he had seen. Despite the near-magical objects around them, the true shock was the massive starship at the end of the hallway. “It’s impressive isn’t it?” Aurelius said. “All of the goddess’ artifacts and items at our disposal, to use and learn from, to integrate into our own. This is why Anglestan is the most powerful nation in the UHT in terms of development. When it comes to industry, however, that would go to the UNA. But we share our secrets with them. All our advancements are handed to them first before any other nation.”
“This is all amazing, Great Grandfather,” Mark replied. “But this is not what I’m here for.”
“No, it’s not.” Aurelius nodded.
He led them to another room, one that was sterilized and sported advanced machinery. Things that Mark had never even seen. There were screens with luminous green texts that appeared in front of it. Large panels with numerous keys, levers, and dials. Graphs of all sorts and beeping monitors. In the center, was the very thing he had come all this way to confirm. A large cylinder filled with liquid, sporting tubes and pipes connecting to its base. Inside was a woman of large proportion. Four arms, two legs, and six wings. In her bare chest was a symbol of the sun that seemed to glow dimly.
“There she is, there’s you goddess.”
Neither Mark nor his group spoke a word. He walked up to it, eyeing the woman inside. It really is her. Down to the last details. Golden hair, six limbs, six folded wings, and she looks massive. Probably as big as her statue just outside the cathedral. This is it. The very goddess in the history books, the one spoken about in legends and the one worshiped in the Churches of Sol.
“Can we free her?” he said.
The Great Grandfather nearly choked on his spit upon hearing those words. “Free her?! That could kill her! We don’t even understand this technology, let alone control it!” he said pointing at the panels. “The machines you see here are the best and most advanced we have based on what we can reverse engineer, but even then, the consequences of tampering with its functions may be disastrous!”
“I understand, Great Grandfather,” Mark said. “But we are in a dire situation, and the goddess may be our hope of turning this around. Whatever secrets of her tech that you don’t understand, wouldn’t she be able to teach us directly? What good is she floating around in Sol knows what?”
“That is her miraculous healing fluid. She had already built this contraption centuries ago in case anything were to happen to her, that her body’s natural healing could not sustain,” Aurelius said. “During the War of Darkness, Helena was struck with a weapon so deadly, her very cells began to tear away. The Reaper. Dealt to her by Absolem the progenitor. Her flesh was peeling from her body, and she began to decay whilst she still breathed. She entered this contraption and gave strict instructions to the Great Grandfather at the time, not to interrupt the healing process. The machine that monitored her, however, began to fail over time.”
“So this… these screens and panels…”
“Is only what functions we can understand. We took it upon ourselves to rebuild and study it the best we could. What we have right now is only a cheap imitation of a technology we do not fully comprehend,” he said. “It took us decades to even figure out the fundamentals and create a working prototype of this machine. By some miracle, the goddess’ healing process had remained even while we replaced components of technology ahead of ours.”
“But you know how to free her, don’t you?”
“I… yes.”
“Great Grandfather Aurelius,” Mark began. “We can end this war. Imagine what we could do with the goddess fighting on our side. We could advance even further, we could finally end the bloodshed, and we can show humanity that there is still hope. Imagine how people all over the world would feel seeing as their goddess has returned.”
“I wish I had your enthusiasm,” Aurelius said. “But it is simply too risky. The Church’s duty is to protect Helena and her legacy. We keep her alive, literally and figuratively. She nearly died the last time she was involved in a war. Would you risk losing the goddess?”
“Would you risk humanity losing?”
The Great Grandfather fell silent, looking back at Helena floating inside the tube, then to the panels that controlled it. He frowned and let out a long sigh. “The goddess said that we should not interrupt it. That it would end as soon as it was finished. Maybe we should trust her words.”
Mark shook his head. “I don’t spot a single blemish on the goddess. Not a single scratch,” he argued. “You said it yourself that the machine had begun to fail and you replaced components. How would you know that the thing that’s supposed to wake her up was not tampered with? Think about it. What you may think is a useless piece may be integral to the whole machine. Or maybe your replacements were not up to the task. Just because nothing’s happened doesn’t mean its functions have remained whole.”
“Young man, we simply cannot gamble with the goddess’ life here.”
“Have you no faith? Great Grandfather?”
Aurelius stepped back in shock. Mark’s companions looked at each other, clearly surprised as well. “Mark… I don’t think we should keep arguing with—” Olivia tried to say.
“No,” the colonel said firmly, cutting her off. “Great Grandfather Aurelius, do you think that Helena will not be able to pull through if we wake her? How long has it been? A century? How much longer will we wait? She may be immortal but humans aren’t.”
“I'm sorry, but the chances of failure are too high. The probability of her—”
“I don’t care about the probability! Would you rather put your faith in a statistic?!” Mark raised his voice. “I lost my mother to this war! My friends! My job! My eye, and almost my life! I’ve put mine on the line out there! You don’t know what it’s like out there! Was my mother’s death just a probability too? Was she just a statistic to you?! That as long as the numbers are good, no matter how many are lost, we are ‘winning’?!”
“Mark—!”
“No, Liv! He needs to know what’s really going on out there!” he spat. “Great Grandfather, with all due respect, but you don’t have a damn clue what it’s like to be in the field. You’re a man of faith, aren’t you? Take a risk. Everyone else has.”
Aurelius stood there, dumbfounded. He bit the inside of his cheeks and clenched his fists. “For your insolence, I would have had you flogged and stripped of your rank,” he glared at the young colonel. However, his features slowly softened, letting out a soft sigh. “But I have never seen such conviction. Mighty is your faith.”
The Great Grandfather moved over to the panels and reached into his robe, pulling out from around his neck a key with the symbol of the sun. He inserted it into the machine and turned. A beep sounded, right before Aurelius pulled a lever. In an instant, the fluid inside the glass chamber began to drain out into the tubes under it. Slowly, the chamber emptied and all that was left was the nude form of the goddess sitting in the glass.
“Did it work?” Louis asked, stepping forward and looking at the woman.
Aurelius stayed silent, his hands shaking in anticipation. Mark moved toward the glass chamber, when suddenly, the glass opened up like a door, releasing a fragrant mist. They stood there, watching for a whole minute. Nothing. At first nothing. The Great Grandfather looked like he was about to break down. His knees shook as he covered his mouth, thinking that he was responsible for the death of Helena.
That was when… a soft sound was heard. Movement. Olivia immediately went over to Mark and stood in front of him. Ready to protect him should anything happen. Slowly, the goddess moved more, her arms inched to the side.
Then, her eyes opened.

2024.05.16 05:48 Low-Mechanic3186 Do I need to master 2d art before I move on to 3d?

Here's what I mean...
Like some people on this sub, I just started drawing. I worked on straight and tapered lines and saw great improvement. (Only 2 days though)
Then I started working on squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and ellipses. (Only 1 day though). Saw improvement and started getting better.
Then I had a problem I wanted to start moving into 3d and I realized while I can draw these simple basic shapes, I still am not a master of 2d, here's what I mean.
I can't draw a pentagon, octagon, hexagon, heart, star, flower, etc.
I can't look at any 2d image and instantly be able to draw it.
Eg: Vector icons, 2d vector man, Number 2 drawing, Phineas & Ferb, Maple leaf
Sans(not in pixelated form though).
I keep on having this fear that if I start to learn 3d fundamentals and become a great artist(hopefully). I would run into problems due to my lack of not being able to draw every 2d image.
Here's what I mean:
What if I want to sign a heart next to my name or add a heart somewhere in my drawing but can't?
Or I want to draw a star in my art but can't.
Or I want to draw the petal part of a flower but I can't
Or in biology class (when I get to grade 9) we're asked to draw a vector image like person, as shown here: 2d vector man to then use to label some random system in the human body but I can't.
Or in math class were' meant to draw an octagonal-shaped pyramid but I can't
The list goes on and on and on and on, you get the idea.
So I want to know 3 things
Do I need to be a master of anything 2d before I move on to 3d?
Also posted on learnart
Thank you for reading this far
Au revoir :)
Edit: Thanks to the two commenters so far I understand I can never "master" 2d just get better at it, but I'm still confused. I guess I'm looking for a more yes or no answer should I move onto 3d or work on 2d a bit more.

2024.05.16 02:10 breadacquirer Is my helmet too big?

I know the obvious answer is to go back to cycle gear and try on the next size down, or even other helmets. But the closest one to me is 2 hours away, so I figured I’d try to get some opinions here first
I’m having a really hard time determining if the helmet I bought is too big or just right. (AGV K6S size M). The size chart on their website says a medium is 57-58cm. I’ve taken multiple measurements of my head and consistently get about 57.5-58.5 cm.
It’s definitely a pain in the ass to get on, and once it’s on it’s comfortable. I read somewhere you shouldn’t be able to chew gum with a full face helmet on. I feel like I could chew gum as I only bite by lips slightly when resting my face, and if I was consciously chewing gum and trying to avoid biting my lips I probably could.
It doesn’t wobble or shift when I shake my head side to side. Up and down, it moves about a quarter of an inch, maybe a half inch. With the chinstrap on, I can lift the front of the helmet without much pressure about a full inch (To the point where my eyes rest just below the visor cutout). I can lift the back of the helmet about a half inch to an inch.
When I push on one side of the helmet, my face doesn’t lose contact with the padding on the other side. I can push the front of the helmet towards my face and lick the front inside.
Now I understand that it’s going to loosen up the more I wear it. So I am wondering now if I made the wrong choice. This helmet was expensive and I (stupidly) wripped the sticker off the visor. Still have the receipt and everything else that came with it though so hopefully I’d be able to return it if I needed to…
If anything, could I in theory purchase some aftermarket cheek cushions that are a little bit thicker? Wear a balaclava underneath? Or does this sound like it warrants an entirely different helmet?
Thank you
Edit: One more thing… I can’t find anything about this online, but if anybody knows please tell me. Does the medium K6S have the same shell size as the small? If so, couldn’t I just order the small cushions and replace the medium? On another note, how do I determine the shell size on mine? Don’t tell me that was on the sticker I ripped off

Navigating Bathtub Sizes: Making the Best Choice for Comfort and Space
Finding the ideal bathtub size can be a difficult challenge when there are so many different sizes available. The typical bathroom is already so cramped that trying to comfortably fit everything in might feel like fitting pieces into a jigsaw puzzle. The bathtub has changed from being only a practical object to a focal point of bathroom design as a result of the rise in home decor trends and the focus on luxurious bathing experiences. This article will go deeply into the world of bathtubs, assisting you in choosing the right one for your needs and available space while also understanding the many different bathtub sizes and styles.

Different components of the bathtub

A typical drop-in style bathtub takes up more than 13 square feet of floor space and is a common fixture in many homes. Despite the fact that every bathtub is distinct, normal tubs have exterior dimensions that are roughly 60 inches long, 30 inches broad, and 14 to 16 inches high. These measurements are essential for the layout of your bathroom and the overall design. The material of a bathtub is also a component; alternatives range from fiberglass to cast iron, each of which offers a different bathing experience.

The Importance of Bathroom Layout

Space Management

The space in bathroom facilities is usually insufficient, especially in metropolitan settings. It follows that thorough planning of your region is necessary. Every inch counts,The location of the bathtub, its closeness to other fixtures, and ensuring mobility all depend on careful space design. Even in very small bathrooms, it’s imperative to leave at least 12 inches between the edge of the tub and any fixtures. As a consequence, the user feels more comfortable while still maintaining functionality.

Tips for Smart Positioning

When positioning the standalone tub, elegance and function must be combined. In smaller bathrooms with constrained space, it’s critical to ensure that the freestanding tub doesn’t impede mobility. The standalone tub’s edge should be kept at least 12 inches away from other fixtures. By having an open floor area that is at least 24 inches wide around the freestanding tub, the bathroom might appear bigger and less crowded. Never forget that striking a balance between design and utility is crucial.

Different Types of Bathtubs and Their Sizes

Alcove Bathtubs

Many homeowners select alcove bathtubs, which are identified by their location within a space limited by three walls. They are frequently the best choice for tiny or typical-sized bathrooms. These baths are normally between 30 and 36 inches broad and 5 to 6 feet long. The front panel of the design—often referred to as an apron—is typically finished, and the surrounding walls are intended to cover the remaining three sides. When thinking about an alcove bathtub, it’s critical to precisely measure the available space to make sure the tub will fit properly while yet allowing enough room for mobility. An alcove bathtub is set against the far side, so the two long walls form the ends and back of the bathroom.

Drop-in Bathtubs

Drop-in bathtubs have a luxurious appearance and are made to fit into a built-in deck with tile or similar material covering the top and exposed sides. In larger bathrooms, the tub deck can fit into a room corner and be left exposed on two sides. Drop-in bathtubs don’t have factory-finished sides like alcove bathtubs do. Instead, they are made to slide into a deck cutout, much like a drop-in sink slides into a vanity countertop. Depending on the size of your bathroom and your preferred design, these large bathrooms can be placed in a variety of locations. However, because the built-in deck can occupy a sizable amount of area, they work best in larger settings.

Oval Bathtubs

Oval baths are considered to be elegant and luxurious. They are available in freestanding or drop-in variants. Despite appearing to be large, they are often only wider than normal bathtubs, not longer. If you’re thinking about getting an oval bathtub, it’s important to consider the extra width, especially if you choose a drop-in model. This entails building a bigger apron for the tub to rest on, which may change how your bathroom is organized in general.

Whirlpool Bathtubs

Whirlpool baths are the epitome of spa-like indulgence. Many of these are available in typical alcove-ready sizes, but they may look bigger than standard tubs. Jetted whirlpool mechanisms can be installed without increasing the footprint. The jets in these corner tubs provide a massage-like effect, making them perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful bathing experience. When considering installing a whirlpool bathtub, it’s critical to consider the additional plumbing requirements and check that the bathroom has adequate space for the tub.

Corner Bathtubs

Corner bathtubs are all about luxury and relaxation. They are great for folks who prefer reading in the tub or watching television on the wall. Because they are often square in shape with one corner chopped off, these bathtubs are a good choice for large bathrooms with plenty of space. They can be configured in many ways, such as a triangle shell or a drop-in tub attached to a triangular deck.

Freestanding Bathtubs

Bathtubs that stand alone and are not confined by walls or installed in alcoves are known as freestanding fixtures. They can be purchased in many different designs, such as modern pedestal tubs and traditional classic models. They offer positional flexibility and could act as the centerpiece of a bathroom’s decor. Freestanding bathtubs may be a fantastic alternative for people with mobility concerns or areas with plenty of senior citizens. However, they do require more space all around—typically an extra 3 inches on each end and 4 inches on each side. Even though they provide for creative flexibility, they are therefore best suited for larger bathrooms or those with a layout that can handle a tub of this size.
Do you feel dazzled by too many styles? That’s okay, I’ve prepared a form for you to choose the bathtub that’s best for you based on your situation.

Regulatory Guidelines on Bathtub Spacing

Code for International Buildings

It’s not just about aesthetics or personal preferences when planning the arrangement of your bathroom; it’s also about following the International Building Code (IBC). This code is more than simply a list of rules; it’s a well-thought-out framework meant to assure safety and functionality. The IBC frequently specifies the basic minimum distance between bathtubs, emphasizing the significance of user safety and comfort.
For example, the IBC may specify the exact inches of space necessary between the tub’s edge and other fixtures or walls. While these standards may appear to be strict, they are there for a purpose. By collaborating with them, you ensure not just a complaint but also a user-friendly and comfortable bathroom. Following these recommendations, in my experience, can save a lot of money.

Local Regulations

While international standards such as the IBC give a wide foundation, local building rules add an additional degree of complication. These regulations can be fairly varied, reflecting the distinct demands and considerations of many locations. They may go into topics ranging from plumbing complexities to the kind of bathtub materials considered suitable. These municipal rules might feel restricting at times, especially if you have a certain goal in mind.
However, keep in mind that they frequently result from the collective expertise of local specialists who understand the region’s particular issues and demands. Before starting a bathroom remodeling or installation project, especially if you want anything extravagant like a whirlpool or a custom-made bathtub, it’s a good idea (and often illuminating) to speak with local authorities or experienced builders. They can offer insights that blend regulatory knowledge with practical experience, ensuring your bathroom is both compliant and captivating.

The Future of Bathtub Sizes

Bathtub forms and types vary according to home. We should expect greater innovation in bathtub features and sizes as spa-like experiences and the tiny house movement grow more popular. Individuals looking to improve their bathing experience may find exciting alternatives in the future, ranging from eco-friendly materials to bathtubs with built-in digital capabilities. Whether you have a large or small bathroom, the market is likely to offer a bathtub that meets your needs.

Conclusion

Choosing the ideal bathtub is a highly emotional adventure, not merely a practical one. It’s about integrating a work of art into one’s life rather than just fitting a tub into a room. The key factor in your choosing is what resonates with you, even though your bathroom’s size, the design of your bathtub, and even the confusing local construction rules all play a part. There are a variety of options, each telling a unique tale, ranging from the snug alcove baths to the grandiose freestanding ones. I would advise someone who believes in the power of personal spaces to thoroughly research the many bathing possibilities while also listening to their emotions. Because your bathtub won’t simply be another feature in your house; it’ll become a beloved haven once you achieve that ideal balance between practicality and heartfelt design.

2024.05.14 02:18 Aqua_TofANNA Renjun went on a hiatus and akgaes are using it to their advantage

And I am not even talking about the akgaes of the other members.
Yes, they do exist too. I know that there were some who celebrated their bias getting more chance to showcase their skills while covering his lines and I knows there are government shippers who are happy that he can no longer interfere with those "moments" but honestly, I have to dig through the searches in order to find them. Maybe it's because I've utilized my mute and block function on them a long time ago hence why they don't even cross the "for you" section of my feed or maybe it's because Renjun is one of my biases in NCT Dream that's why his fans appear more on my timeline.
I get it. It's a tough time to be a Renjun stan. There were so many things about their recent comeback that I wish didn't happen. I wish people were kinder to him. I wish he didn't miss their concert because he worked hard for it. I wish he wasn't hurting because of things that aren't even his fault.
I get being sad. I get being angry. What I don't get is directing those emotions to the other members.
It was crazy. Jaemin got hated on for "lying" during a fansigning event, for telling a fan who asked him that Renjun caught a flu. This was before official announcement was made, and in that official announcement, SM cited poor health condition and symptoms of anxiety as the reason. It means, Jaemin may not be lying. He's just in a position where he can't talk about the other reason yet.
The days before the concert kicked off in Seoul were tough. People who are trying to go the rational routes were automatically harassed for "defending" SM. For example, when rumors of rerecording Renjun's A.R., when fans were citing Chenle and Haechan as example (they both missed a few cities during tour due to poor health condition), when people pointed out that the case is different because Chenle and Haechan had to be pulled out while the tour is already starting, thus no time to make adjustment, akgaes deemed it as "normalizing mistreatment towards Renjun". They said the same thing when people pointed out that others in SM (and even in some other companies) were excluded on the MD during their hiatus.
It reached a point where akgaes were already directing their frustrations towards the other members. "Why aren't they talking about him when they usually say 'we'll come back here as 7Dream' whenever someone misses their schedule". It wasn't true because the other members were talking about him, just not in the specific manner they wanted. When people pointed out it's easier to predict how long a flu will last and that "promising to comeback as seven" can be burdening to someone who had to take a break for issues relating to mental health, akgaes deemed it as ONLY being sympathetic towards the other members and not towards Renjun. Because for some reasons they believed it's mutually exclusive. Whatever. Anything that doesn't agree with their agenda of proving that the six members are erasing Renjun's existence in NCT Dream were treated as something that's antagonizes him. This "why aren't they talking about him", we'll get back to later as it reached an unfortunate development.
The concert in Seoul finally happens. People can still hear his voice in the AR and it's very noticeable whenever members were late covering his parts. While there's also a possibility that the rumor of rerecording was true, it's obvious that they didn't rerecord every single part. For those not following NCT Dream, they have this song called ANL (All Night Long) which they've already performed during their previous tours. In The Dream Show 2, during the bridge which is Renjun's part, the other members would sit around him as he sings his part. Now for The Dream Show 3, instead of having anyone cover that part, they decided to play his AR, yellow planet was shown on the screen during this time, yellow butterfies (confettis) rained down, and the colors of the lightstick turned yellow. Yellow is Renjun's favorite color.
Haechan dedicated part of his ending ment towards Renjun, how Renjun practiced until the very end because he really wanted to be there but unfortunately couldn't because he needed to rest, and how they reassured him that Dream is a strong team who will hold on until he's finally ready to come back. We had Chenle and Jisung emphasizing how important Renjun is and that they wanted to go on stage as seven again. We had Mark who's wearing and three injeolmis (Renjun's doll) attached to his robe for encore, because he's the older and he's the leader, thus it's he's responsibility to make sure that in some ways 7Dream is complete on stage, while making sure people will also clap for Renjun during concerts because he worked hard for it too. We had Jeno who's lowkey wearing a Renjun danji keyring attached to his pants for the entirety of Seoul concerts and telling Renjun, whom they knew were watching, that Dream is okay as long as he's okay so he can come back anytime. Jaemin may not have talked about him in the concert, but he, in his own ways in his bubble expressed missing Renjun and wanting to hear his voice again because to him it was the best.
Before the Seoul concert, akgaes "wanted" the other members to talk about Renjun. Quotation because obviously, that's not really what they wanted. They just latched on to the idea that the other members are excluding him because it feeds the agenda that everyone is out to get him. During the days prior to the concert, they were citing other groups as examples and how much better they were at including a member who went through hiatus. Now, the narrative has changed.
Suddenly, the other members talking about Renjun "feels" like a duty, basically accusing the other six of faking their concerns. Members appreciating him as being the glue of the group is now something offensive to him. Jisung appreciating how serious Renjun is about NCT Dream is causing annoyance to them. Fans being reassured that Renjun is resting well is ticking them off.
The length they'll go through to prove this narrative is crazy. I even saw some using a fancall footage where Renjun cited talking to Yangyang, and his frequent visits to the WayV dorm as proof that NCT Dream don't care about him. Because apparently, having more friends mean that the ones you already have aren't genuine. Ironic because just before something like this happened, Renjun made it a point to fans to not question their relationship as they know each other more. Granted that he talked about it for a different issue, when fans where expressing worries that he might have offended Jeno for saying he'd be awkward eating alone with Jeno but the point still stands.
No, them playing his bridge during ANL wasn't enough. Mark still wearing his injeolmis during the Osaka leg of their tour is still not enough even if that's basically the equivalent of other groups bringing a plushie representative to fansigning events. No, it's not enough that banners dedicated for Renjun were highlighted and shown on the screen. Mark, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung were still not doing enough because THEY'RE NOT BRINGING A CARDBOARD CUTOUT OF RENJUN WITH THEM.
It's crazy. Akgaes always find a way to invalidate opinions that are not in line with theirs. You like 7Dream? Then you don't really care about Renjun, you're only using him to feed your 7Dream friendship agenda. You're a shipper? Nevermind that you spent so much money to go overseas and attend a concert wearing his merch and raising his banner when he's not even going to person, you don't care about him beyond RPS.
Well, I guess akgaes don't really like their bias beyond having someone to project their thoughts and feelings on because for people who are supposed to be fans of someone who expressed appreciation towards the members of his team and what they do for him, you certainly have no qualms in accusing him of lying during one of his lowest points in time. So much for being "the only ones" who truly loves him. Honestly, if we go by akgaes logic, then I'm going to assume that them being pissed whenever members reassure fans that Renjun is resting well and getting better means they don't want him to heal at all.

I am the 2nd owner, comes with original box / Reate soft pouch / Titanium C of A / Wax Thank you Card. Has not been cut or carried by either owner, nor disassembled.
I was planning to link a disassembly video which shows how cool and totally over-engineered this secondary lock function is but I can't find it now. It is super sweet though, Alvin Lee really went nuts on these.
The zirc is extremely classy, and integrating it into the secondary lock mechanism was really exceptional. My main complaint about the T1000 is that it looks somewhat monotone and plain which was solved in a big way on the T6000.
I actually really like this knife, the action is superb and you get that amazing 'thwock' sound when it fires. I can't explain how satisfying that is to get that 'thwock' on a knife with such a small blade but this manages it.
The cutout is amazing for the reverse flick, not great for the thumb open. The studs work but I prefer the flipper / cutout to them.
Super cool overbuilt monster in an EDC sized package with super high end touches and a brand new super cool and super unnecessary second locking system design. I appreciate Reate trying to do something new here, regardless of whether it is needed or not.
What I don't appreciate is Reate's new policy not to allow coupons on their products from American retailers...a bit of a dick move. That's literally my sole reason for selling this, I think it'd be a killer knife in my collection.
Innovating, fun, fidgety, chonky, sexy, safe...all with a 'thwock'. You really can't ask for more from a knife.

2024.05.12 01:46 cleantowels A 20+ Year HW Community Vet's take on Homeworld 3 and its Story

Well I just finished the campaign of Homeworld 3 today and I have to say I am massively dissatisfied with the presented story. I feel utterly disappointed that after 20 years of waiting for a sequel to one of my favorite game franchises; we got something like this.
I feel like this game's story and narrative direction went in a direction that goes counter to the fundamental experience the first 2-3 games delivered that made them memorable so many decades after the fact. I honestly think it is the worst/weakest game of the franchise narratively speaking. All the other aspects of HW3 are fantastic. I 1000% understand what Rob and the rest of the folks at BBI were trying to accomplish here when they said the tech wasn't available 20 years ago with HW2. This game is beautiful and it shows. Visuals, Audio, ship design, UI, are fantastic. Gameplay and mechanical issues are fixable so I'm not going to fault them for that being a bit rough at launch.
I'll try to explain as best I can, but I'm not the best at fully expressing my thoughts out into text, so (BRING SAJUUK TO BEAR) with me.
For context, I've been in the Homeworld community for a LONG TIME. Since the Relicnews days. Not as long as Uber, Shin, or some of the other folks, but long enough to have made many friends from this community I still know to this day, and also I am one of the moderators on the HWU Discord server. So I have spent the better part of my entire life a part of this community in some way.
Here we go... (quote shameless stolen borrowed from The Way of Kings)

Journey Before Destination

The ancient code of the Knights Radiant says “journey before destination.” Some may call it a simple platitude, but it is far more. A journey will have pain and failure. It is not only the steps forward that we must accept. It is the stumbles. The trials. The knowledge that we will fail. That we will hurt those around us.
But if we stop, if we accept the person we are when we fall, the journey ends. That failure becomes our destination.
Why do people love HW1/HWC to this day? What about those games made them so well loved by the community that they are widely considered the de-facto games of the series when it comes to their story telling? But what about it was good that made it that way?
DanVanCrone wrote a fantastic piece on the old Relicnews forums that the entire forum base loved to referenced for many years of how heartfelt and masterful the story connected with its audience.
For me and many others. it was the experience of the story; the journey that took place within those games that gave us the player something to connect with; to relate with. The story of Homeworld presented a simple premise. A people on a planet who discovered their home was not their own. Their true home was out somewhere among the stars. The reasons how they got here or why lost to time and ancient memories turned to myth and legends. Their struggle to survive, their rise out of near extinction to climb into the heavens and stumble upon a lost secret that would transform their entire society in such a way that would drive them across the galaxy.
So we set out on this journey not as a third party viewing Commander Shepard do his thing, or as a specific character; but as someone who had their place right along side the entire Kharakian people as they set out to find their home. Sure we had Fleet Command/Intel, as they were voiced and spoke, but their agency as a character was done in such a way presented them moreso as proxies or acted as a voice for the entirety of the Kharakian (Kushan) people. Karan did have her own voice due to the nature of her linkage to the Mothership and so she had a sort of duality with her position. But both her and Fleet Intelligence were able to act as a means to deliver the emotions for moments of pain, grief, anger, sadness, revenge, hope and everything we experienced as we played the campaign.
We experienced the journey to Hiigara along with the entire crew of the Mothership. We had the welling of anger and sadness when Kharak burned. The anxiousness and anticipation at the Bridge of Sighs as we gained entry to the Hiigaran system. Panic, concern, worry as we fought to survive in orbit around our Homeworld.
The story of Homeworld was never about a character or about chasing 'a thing' but moreso the exploration and experience of an idea that resonated with everyone; to find your home. In doing so, the story unfolded naturally of uncovering the history of what happened in their past of how they came to be on Kharak, experiencing loss, exacting revenge, hope for the future and eventually tears of joy at the accomplishment that the did in fact find Hiigara. And we were there along the way as an active participant to experience all of it along the way as if we were there with them.
The glorious vistas of the galaxy as we jumped from mission to mission. We cried at the end NIS as we saw the epilogue of our journey. The lives lost from the conflict of the fight to gain our Homeworld. The awe and wonder of seeing a lush world to those who knew only endless sands, and especially when we saw Karan insisting that she be the last person to disembark and set foot on the Homeworld.
The agency we had as a player was not viewed through the lens of one person; but through the eyes of an entire people and the journey they took. The universe had enough backstory written within the manual to lay the foundational ground work just enough that you didn't need a lot of technical exposition dumps, or have to have things blatantly explained to you right to your face. So in a sense, you were like part of the crew going on the journey along with them, as part of them.

Homeworld Catacylsm

HWC worked much the same way within its own twist. For this game, the focus was much smaller in scope and placed you with the crew of the Kiith Somtaaw mining vessel.
Here HWC built upon the foundations that HW1 put in place with the lore of the Kiiths, the fallout of returning to Hiigara, and touched upon and provided interested world building elements about the universe. From the aspects of Kiith politics; and the explorations of galactic geopolitics resulting from the Return of the Kushan people.
It was an underdog tale and also one that mirrors and parallels aspects of a Hero's Journey. Only again the hero here is not a person but a group of people. The story aspect of The Beast acted as narrative driving force to drive those concepts of the growth and journey of the Kuun-Lan and her crew as they had that Hero's journey.
You fight alongside the Kuun-Lann, you feel and hear the fear in their voices of the ship engineers as they struggle to understand the Beast when it captures and subverts ships. The tension as the story progresses as the circumstances get more dire. The interactions with the Bentusi and seeing a culture so powerful be shook to their core was a fantastic element of exploring who the Bentusi were as a people. We saw the horrors of the Imperialist experiments and their alliance with the Beast. We got the the thrill of victory with the Siege cannon working as we fought back in the last mission. And lastly at the end of the epilogue sequence where the Somtaww fought, died, and earned their place among the great martial Kiith; the naming of their children as Beastslayers. Truly it was fantastic story telling under the guise of using science fiction and some space horror.
All of the gameplay, and the emotions come out as the story and narrative is experienced. Everything that is told within the game, works within the confines of the established lore of the game, and the prior game. Nothing is over explained, nothing is just hand-waved away. We saw them grow as a crew, saw their fear, stumbles falls, and triumphs along the way. All this while exploring and growing the established lore of the Homeworld universe.
In my view those two stories worked so well for so many people because fundamentally, they were a story of the Journey; not the destination. We lived through those experiences as if we were there with them; we experienced the ups and downs of the emotions of the stories told about the people and their growth within those stories. We were able to connect and relate to those experiences in our own way. And in my view, the ability to connect to those stories made them so fantastic.
“And so, does the destination matter? Or is it the path we take? I declare that no accomplishment has substance nearly as great as the road used to achieve it. We are not creatures of destinations. It is the journey that shapes us. Our callused feet, our backs strong from carrying the weight of our travels, our eyes open with the fresh delight of experiences lived.”

The Stumble

"What you saw belongs to you. A story doesn't live until it is imagined in someone's mind."
"What does the story mean, then?"
"It means what you want it to mean," Hoid said. "The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think , but to give you questions to think upon. Too often, we forget that.”
In my view Homeworld 2 is where things started to have problems.
Many of us in the community know of the development of Homeworld 2, its cancellation, its rushed story and development. However the story of HW2 mostly throws out the concepts mentioned before. While the story and gameplay is presented in the same way as the prior two games; in my view it fails to present the user a story and experience they can truly and fundamentally connect with and is more 'generic science fiction'.
The driving force of the story is some prophecy we've never seen or heard of before this game in any of the lore. And the main reason for all of it is the now retconned nature of the hyperspace cores. Throw on top of this heavy leaning into the religious themes and mysticism focusing on Karan and Makaan who now and take the stage as the primary protagonists and antagonists of the story.
The character motivations of the Makaan/Vaygr, Karan, and the Bentusi are in my view mostly shallow or very hollow to the point its basically cookie cutter tropes without a lot of nuance to it. The story becomes and is less about the people and more about a MacGuffin game of Hide and Seek. The prior exploration and expansion of the HW universe is entirely ignored in favor of this hide-and-seek of the cores that the entire game has driving it forward. There's no understanding of the growth of the world, of the Kushan people, geopolitics, or anything like that. Just lots of woo-woo mysticism about the Cores and the Progenitors.
With regards to the plot; we're mainly just told 'hey the bad guys are coming, keep the cores away and go find the others'. The Bentusi are unceremoniously killed off without any real build up or explanation. Why are they the last? What happened to them? None of that is explored in a way that gives us any sort of satisfying reason to why this makes sense when they detonate their Harbour Ship to give us their Magic Space Core.
To me there's no personal emotional connection to the story. Why should I care about a magic space prophecy I've never heard of until now? Why are the Vaygr the way they are? None of that is given time to breathe or has enough depth to make me care beyond superficially. The narrative doesn't make you feel less of an active participant in the journey you are going through, and makes you more of a passive viewer of a conflict that has little explanation as to why you should care or understand the importance of said driving forces. The reasons for getting to and through the the game feel rushed so much that the narrative doesn't have a lot of depth or time to breathe in my view.
While the backstory in the manual does give context to the pre-exile events and how it does relate to the events in game which helps with overall universe world building; it's done so in such a way that is retconning the fundamental established soft-rules of the universe that HW1 and HWC laid the ground work on which further compounds or allows the weak story of HW2 to take place, and undercuts the accomplishments of the Kushan people as I will explain shortly.

The Fall - Homeworld 3

However the worse crime is what was squandered with the ending of the HW2. The epilogue of Homeworld 2 put forth a massive chance for some incredible story options to take place with the opening of the Hyperspace Gate Network across the galaxy. A chance for exploring stories that can connect with the player on that personal level like HW1 and HWC and the explorations of what could be explored in this new open universe. What will the Hiigarans do now, what about the Taiidan, the other Inner Rim species, what now will the galaxy look like with the Bentusi gone, why were the gates closed in the first place?! So many fantastic ideas were possible with scopes as large or as small as possible. The discovery, exploration of the Homeworld Galaxy would have been tremendous.
Instead we got the story of Homeworld 3.
Now I don't want to be unnecessary harsh or mean to the writers or the team at BBI/Gearbox for the effort they put into the work for Homeworld 3. This game is a niche title and not anywhere near popular like COD, or Warcraft or Zelda. But to be frank, I really truly feel that y'all need to have some direct constructive criticism of this story's campaign. I don't know what the motivation was for putting this story together, or what was attempting to be told here, but whatever story you were trying to tell did not land well.
I backed this game on fig at the Admiral level, so I threw down hard for this and am truly grateful we got the game at all. I truly want BBI and Gearbox to take this to heart in a way this is not demeaning, but a cold bucket of water that I feel needs to be throw.
The best way I can succinctly put this is that the story of Homeworld 3 lacks the fundamental soul that made Homeworld 1 and Homeworld Cataclysm the absolutely best in the franchise. This game makes Homeworld 2's rushed narrative and slight stumbles look somehow not that bad by comparison. Those on the HWU discord know my passionate dislike of the overall story of HW2 and the retcons that introduced that were further compounded by HWDOK. The story of HW3 makes HW2 look polished and well thought out by comparison.
So I'll be straight with my gripes on this.

Final Thoughts

Fundamentally I know this is a personal opinion of mine and not everyone will agree with it. That's fine, but for me I have so many issues with the story and many of the pillars that are supposed to hold it up that at a certain point I can only say that the story is for me very bad and goes against the grain of what the foundational games to me setup for the franchise. It does nothing to grow or expand the HW universe lore in any interesting ways. I say this as someone who's been in and grown up with the Homeworld community for the last 26 years.
Story-wise; it's disappointing, bland, and generic at the very least and doesn't live up to the GOAT levels of quality the originals of HW1 and HWC (and to an extent HW2) put forth; to being insultingly bad at worst. I don't mean this as an slight to the writing staff as I know that a LOT of the OG folks involved with the first games were involved, but I really feel like there was a misstep here. It plays well and the pacing is kinda faster than I'd have wanted within a Homeworld game. However the core story ideas that make up the game are poorly explained, weak, or are so counter the established lore that for me it doesn't hold up well. This is magnified by the antagonist motivations and actions being poorly explained which in turn doesn't give the story or world to grow in any meaningful way.
I honestly don't know where or how the path the franchise has taken can be corrected. In my personal opinion, its gone off in a direction that gave the first games their unique style that made them attractive in the first place. Without doing massive retcons to entirely course correct to bring the game to where I personally think would be more akin to the original games I don't know where they'll try to take the game. This recent game I feel it has pushed more into the generic bland science fantasy genre with this newest entry into the franchise; rather than taking the careful slow burn, grounded science fiction based abstract story approach that connects with a player on a deeply personal level.
For me, while may it may have the gameplay mechanics and RTS genre DNA of seasoned devs in the industry that have been involved with Homeworld and other games over the years, it lacks the soul that made the first games who they were and is Homeworld game in name only.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

2024.05.11 04:58 DaBooch69 My personal rewrite of the final fight and ending of Restoration

I was not the biggest fan of Restoration. While I liked the first half, the second and ending really floundered for me and made some odd writing decisions I don't think were bad, just poorly executed. That's what this rewrite is for. My own personal activity to show what I would've preferred from the finale.
Please note: I AM NOT A BETTER WRITER THEN BERNIE OR THE ROOSTER TEATH STAFF. I am a moron who cares waaaaayyy too much about these dumbass characters and just can't help himself. I am not attempting to claim this is better then Restoration; this is just a writing exercise for fun.
Additions to the first half:
* Lopez comes along. He doesn't just get left behind at Red Base, he actually gets to come along and do something. Not anything big, just something to keep him relevant and not just discard him.
* Donut can appear as a cardboard cutout of himself that everyone except Lopez, even Church, thinks is real. If Donut's VA is busy (which I heard is the reason for his absence), then make it a joke.
* Meta lures Caboose out of hiding during Hardgrove's ship battle by using Delta's voice to lull him into a false sense of security. This is something I thought of that I'm surprised didn't happen.
* Sarge dies saving Caboose, not in the ship. He charges in, gets grabbed like he does in the Ice Fight. Meta mentions how they don't appreciate Sarge killing their last host, stabs him, and throws him to the ground. Arriving too late, Grif and Simmons trap Meta with the bubble shield and Caboose carries Sarge back to the ship. Sarge does his whole dying schpeel, but since Lopez is here, Sarge looks to him last and says, in perfect Spanish, "You were always my favorite."
Ok, the actual finale.
Lopez goes in to fight Meta with Grif and Simmons, wanting to avenge Sarge. He can get his ass kicked too, and his head ripped off in classic Lopez style.
Here's the big twist I came up with. Instead of dicking around on the cliff, Wash remembers a detail from his briefing on the Blood Gulch incident. A Freelancer asset left beneath the canyon, abandoned. Instead of jumping off the cliff and activating his beacon, Wash goes below into the caves.
Vic is back. Season 15 got retconned, he's still alive and down there. Wash uses Vic to send a distress beacon to any remaining Freelancers, and goes back up to face the Meta one more time.
The Caboose's story about the Director and Grif and Simmons getting their ass kicked can stay. That was actually pretty good. There's no Meta vanishes for a quick moment, the fight just flows into Grif diving for the Grifshot. Simmons does that badass shotgun reload, drops the Dirty Blue line, and as the Meta grabs him, Wash arrives just in time and fights the Meta himself. Wash gets the back in black line, but he goes "Im back" and Doc gets to say "in black." Bc he's awkward like that and it feels just a smidge less forced then Caboose doing it.
Wash gets to be in the fight instead of just sitting there! He and Meta have a brief fight. Meta can use his cloak again, while Wash shows off his knife skills, but Meta eventually gets the upper hand with the sword. And THAT is when Tex shows up and hits Meta with the Warthog.
Same fight with Tex, but when she gets thrown through into Red Base, Tex immediately goes through the teleporter, gets the black soot, and dive kicks Meta. Wash and Tex both walk up to the Meta. He can make a joke about the Ice Fight, but Tex won't recognize it and be confused who he is because she's Cabooses memory. Meta mocks them, stating how he took them on before and will again. Wash corrects him. Because it's not two of them. Its three.
Carolina's dramatic entrance. Another joke where she calls Tex "mom" and she's just confused. All three of the last Freelancers take Meta on. He starts using his suit abilities and the sword, the avalanche is triggered, and the fight can just go on. But as Grif, Simmons, and Caboose watch, someone else arrives.
Admiral Delano Donut, flanked by Dr. Grey. Announcing that he got Vic's distress call (because he's on Vic's list), he arrived with Grey to get Wash and use his private UNSC frigate in orbit to MAC round the Meta for all the domestic terrorism stuff. Grif explains how Tucker is still in there, but Simmons comes up with a plan. He explains how if they've seen flashes of Tucker in the Meta, and if they can help bring him out, maybe Tucker can retake control. Donut agrees.
Meta takes out both Carolina and Wash, pins Tex, does his speech, Tex gets her moment and kicks his ass. But he's still too strong. Grif, Simmons, Caboose, and Donut surround the Meta. They do a whole "we know you're in there" schpeel, Tucker slowly begins to resurface, and Carolina and Wash help too. You can call back to past bits here, even mention Junior. As Tucker is able to wrestle control back for a moment, Donut tosses him the memory unit (Because you know. Donut is the good throw guy). Tucker stabs himself with the memory unit, absorbing the Meta, Tex, and the Church memory in Caboose's helmet. Dr Grey goes to heal Tucker, and as everything begins winding down, the unit violently shakes and a figure appears.
It's the Alpha. Alpha Church explains how since all the fragments are united, he's able to reconstitute himself, but Sigma and Omega are still fighting for control. He doesn't know how long he can hold being the Alpha before falling apart again. He says goodbye to Tucker (bc they never got to), and then asks Caboose to delete him. As reluctant as he is to do it, he admits Caboose was one of the best friends he could have had and thanks him for guiding the Epsilon unit. Wash initially tries to counter, but Caboose agrees, smashing the unit.
Wash approaches Caboose, telling him how impressed he is by his ability to let go. Instead of Carolina explaining his arc, Wash gets his own monologue where he admits to struggling with letting go of people he cares about and dealing with their memory. Doc died for him, and he has to continue living to honor his memory. It's hard, but. It's what he has to do. Dr Grey explains how Doc was killed on Chorus, and how Wash was diagnosed with hallucinations and faced immense guilt. Facing the Doc hallucination one last time, Doc forgives Wash, as do the other dead Freelancers, North getting his speech about the memories staying with him, and they fade. Carolina tells Wash she's here for him, and Wash admits he could use a break.
Tucker is fully recovered, and will be going with Donut as an emissary to Sanghelios to go see Junior (Shiela is his new shipboard AI). Vic is finally decommissioned and Lopez is installed into the Meta's empty armor, finally becoming the Lopez the Heavy he always dreamed of. Carolina tells everyone how Wash will be going to recover on Illinois's island, and how she and Grey will go with him to make sure he recovers. Hearing about the prospect of two ladies on the beach, Tucker volunteers to come with, dropping the Bow chicka bow wow (BECAUSE HE NEED IT GOD DAMN IT). He is promptly denied.
As the dropship leaves, Caboose installs Freckles into the dead Tex body. Simmons tells Grif he's free to leave, but instead, he decides to stay. This is his family now. No amount of running from his problems are going to get rid of them. This stupid canyon and this stupid team are part of him now. "I think I know why I'm here now. It's to be a lazy fatass slackoff. But I'm a RED lazy fatass slack off. And that's not going to change." He says he'll call Sister to come down and give Sarge a REAL Grif family sendoff. Then they kiss. (I did not like Grif leaving. It felt counter to his arc in the movie and really just lead to a bummer ending. Wash already covers the moving on theme).
As Caboose walks through Blood Gulch, Simmons calls him over. "Hey Caboose, you seem lonely. Why don't you come on down?" "Oh no, I can't do that." He responds. "That is Red Base. And I am a Blue. And Sarge said Blues can't be friends with Reds. Not ever." Simmons looks over to Sarge's grave, then back to Caboose. "No, I'm pretty sure Sarge changed his mind about all that. And besides. I think this whole Red and Blue thing is over now." Caboose walks over to Red Base, and all three of them look to the horizon as Donut's ship leaves, the camera panning out of Blood Gulch as the classic jingle plays one last time. Cheesy and feel good ending, with a meta comment about the end of the series. Cinema.
Yeah that's it. Tried to stick within the real story as much as possible, since I think overall it was fine, just needed fleshing out. Wash gets to be in the fight and actually faces his own guilt himself, Tuckers is able to defeat the Meta through the power of friendship, Donut shows up in a limited role for his VA, and Grif stays along. Kinda bummed I couldn't find a place for the Chorus Crew or Locus. Let me know if you liked this little exercise. I really should not have yapped this much.

2024.05.11 00:25 FalseOptimist Hoka Cielo X1

Hoka Cielo X1
I picked these up at the Flying Pig expo (Thanks, Hoka rep for being patient with me trying a few pairs on!!!) and I've now had technically 2 runs in them.
The first was about 1.5 miles and very intentionally easy and nowhere near what these shoes were designed for, but I had them in mind as a backup should it have rained on the day of the Pig, so I at least wanted a couple of miles in them beforehand.
Anyway, today was my first real run with them where I picked up the pace.
What are my thoughts?
First, like so many reviewers comment, these are not the lightest shoes to be in the “race day” category. My US 11.5 is 300 grams. Also, the fit runs small. I am usually an 11 or even 10.5 in some shoes (cough ASICS) and the 11.5 fits spot on. Do with this information what you will.
The upper is just about the most comfortable Hoka road shoe I have worn. I still think the Speedgoat has it beat, but this is a racier upper and not a trail shoe. It's better than the Mach or the Clifton, imho. The Mach X is a close second.
The laces suck, but using Ian’s secure knot really helps keep them from untying. Not even the usual double-knot seems effective with these plasticky-ribbon laces. Per the rep I spoke with when buying these, version 2 is going to fix that.
One of the first things I noticed on the run is that it definitely favors more of a forward foot strike. I tend to be a midfoot striker, and I was able to get a decent pop out of the shoe. Leaning more forward in them elevates that sensation and really maximizes the effect of the foam/plate combination.
My run today was a steady-state effort, and these shoes really allowed me to maintain momentum. I frequently was pulling back because my pace was pushing above the target without trying. Most of the other shoes I own don't tend to be this cajoling, and I am looking forward to seeing how they fare in a long-run scenario with marathon to half marathon pace efforts. I suspect these will even be decent for a 10K.
The weight underfoot is well-controlled. Yes, they are noticeably heavier than my Metaspeed Sky Paris, but that's an unfair comparison to make. I consider them similar to the NB SC Elite v4 in terms of how the weight is managed. That said, these are more rewarding to push at speed.
One area of concern that I had was the lateral side cutout. I find that at easier paces, the shoe is more unstable and leans a bit toward that. At speed, though, the cutout is not noticeable, and the shoe even handles tight corners relatively well. This was probably the biggest surprise to me. I liken it to a bicycle: stability improves with speed, and going slow means you're more likely to fall.
Where do I see myself using these?
I don't see them being my go-to race day shoe. These would be great for long runs, especially with some efforts in there, as the foam really helps mitigate fatigue, and I was able to get into a flow state during my run today.
I could see myself using them in a wet race situation because the rubber coverage is good and a bit thicker than the MS Sky Paris, but that would probably me the only time I would find myself on the start line with them.
All-in-all, I am excited by these shoes. They're fun and a huge surprise. They're the first road Hokas I truly enjoy as opposed to tolerating.

2024.05.10 23:29 Jebueno I built a custom bench with storage for our breakfast nook

I built a custom bench with storage for our breakfast nook
I was pretty unhappy with the size/shape/build quality of commercially available options so I decided to build my own bench seating. I have some experience building outdoor furniture but this was my first indoor “use it every day” project.
Pardon the painters tape - SO is still deciding the appropriate color for the bench.
For sizing, I used the height and depth of our kitchen chairs. Using these measurements, I put together a rough blue print and bill of materials, then got to work.
Tools used:
Drill 1/4” impact Pocket hole jig Mitre saw Circular saw with fence Jig saw Table saw Router Staple gun Pneumatic Nail gun
I started by removing the baseboards, attaching header boards to the wall, and framing the bench. I used self-tapping 3” wood screws for the joints I could reach, and drilled pocket holes for pocket screws for the harder to reach joints. The angles of the wall made it a bit more complicated than I was expecting, but with some trial and error I was able to complete each of the “corners” with 45 degree cuts made with the mitre saw.
Once it was framed, I had to contend with the floor vent. I have no experience whatsoever in HVAC, so I did my best with what I could find at Home Depot. I used a 10x4 to 6” 90 degree register box to extend the vent from the floor, then connected it to a 10x4 register with a simple 6” collar. Thankfully, my new register landed flush with the front of the bench and no further modifications were required. I used HVAC sealant and aluminum tape to seal the joints and tested for leaks. After checking with both warm and cold air, I felt no discernible leaks or air gaps and decided to call it good.
I used 1/4” finish grade plywood panels for the front and sides of the bench, and cut them to size using the circular saw with fence and made minor adjustments using the table saw. I dry fit the panels, traced a cutout for the vent and then used a jigsaw to cut the vent hole. The panels were then attached using the nail gun with brad nails.
For the front of bench trim, 1/2” x 1 1/2” primed mdf was cut with the mitre and attached using the nail gun.
To make the bench seats, I cut 3/4” finish grade plywood to size again using the circular saw and fence then making fine adjustments with the table saw. Because I wanted the benches to open with the hinge on the wall side, I ended up cutting separate pieces for the “corners” and the longer rectangular sections. The corners were an absolute bear to get right, as I had a tough time transferring the size and shape to the plywood. Lots cursing and a quick refresher on Pythagorean theorem, and I was able to cut triangles to fit the corners close enough that I could hide any imperfections with trim. To complete the seats, I used the router with a 1/2” rounding bit to take the edge off the top and bottom of the front of each piece.
The walls were far from flat, so I ended up adding quarter round behind each seat to hide noticeable gaps. I left a small space below the quarter round so the seats could pivot once I added the hinges.
To make the seats easy to open, I mounted 90-Degree Surface Mount Hidden Spring Cabinet hinges to the bottom of the seats and spaced them evenly. We suddenly had a new place to hide all of the kitchen appliances and serving dishes we never use!
With caulk, sanding and painting, I was finally satisfied with the build. I went to look for cushions and was overwhelmed by the cost (when did pillows get so expensive?), so I decided to make some myself.
After some color guidance from my SO, we picked a vinyl fabric and bought 5 yards, a couple rolls of 2” foam cushioning, and several rolls of batting at Hobby Lobby. If you’re going to do this, I highly recommend either buying denser foam, or using at least 3” of the stuff at hobby lobby. 2” foam looks aesthetically pleasing, but it’s not very comfy if you’re sitting on it for extended periods.
I cut a sheet of 1/2” OSB as backing, then foam cushioning to match. I covered each seat with the batting, then stapled it to the backing. I then did the same with the vinyl fabric, paying close attention to how the fabric would “waterfall” at the corners. The corners on the rectangular cushions were relatively easy, but waterfalling the corners aesthetically on the triangle cushions was particularly challenging. I had to remove the fabric, trim it back and restaple several times before I was satisfied.
Overall, I (and more importantly the SO) am very happy with how it turned out. In total, it took me around two weeks working on and off and $600 to complete the project. I learned a lot about trim work and accepting some amount of imperfections, and after three weeks of living with the bench, any “rough edges” have disappeared.
Big thanks to this subreddit for the inspiration and to you if you’ve read this far!

2024.05.10 20:08 drake_burroughs We're a little early this week, so enjoy a Friday treat! We look at Legion #117 - 120 and Legionnaires #74 - 76

We're a little early this week, so enjoy a Friday treat! We look at Legion #117 - 120 and Legionnaires #74 - 76
Sorry that we're one day early with the posting - real life has taken over and I will be, hopefully, lying by a pool for most of this weekend...
Full disclosure before we begin. I completely missed Legion #117 and didn't realize it until I was almost done this column. What's worse for the creative team is that I didn't even notice until Legion #120. Yeah, lots of wasted paper here.
LSH #117
Things I never thought I'd type: "Thank the gods Scott Kolins is back penciling this book!"
Sensor is still at risk of being cut to pieces by the bad guy's scientist and Invisible Kid and Brainy can't do anything because they're holograms, kinda. Wow, they actually are still using Brainy's discovery. Luckily for everyone, Sensor still has her powers and has made it so everything thinks she's being vivisected while she gets away. Always happy to see characters save themselves!
The villain, Pernisius, powered with the Eternium from the Rock of Eternity, spends a couple of pages battering M'onel around. Nothing important to see here.
We then meet a new character, at Blackstar prison, named Gear. He interfaces with computers and can create organic technology. He immediately spots Sensor and tells them to go after her. Knowing that her powers don't work on tech, they quickly recapture her. Well that's just depressing.
Then, to make things more confusing, Sensor learns that she's no longer going to be cut open for research, she's now going to be working as a slave, just like Gear. Her job is to haul things into some sort of fire pit. I wonder if they're trying to make some sort of reference to what happened on Orando and just completely missed the point.
Am I the only one who's just scratching his head trying to make sense of this? Why did the scientist stop wanting to cut her open? Why is there a slave prison here? Why didn't they call up Ultra Boy to deal with his home planet? Why did they make any of these decisions?
Before the Legion can do anything to save her (how is it that the power of the Legion, with all the myriad of talents, can't get into a crappy building with a force shield?), Gear says he wants to escape to (ignoring everything he's been saying for pages) and he and Sensor are attacked. They fight off the guards and Gear shuts down the place.
I know I say this a lot, but this is so bloody stupid that it's offensive. They want to introduce a new Legionnaire and this is not how you do it.
They free the others and I'm so glad we got this one-issue distraction from the actual battle and problem with Pernisius. Ugh...
Legionnaires #74
It's the wrap up after the big battle with the elementals, so we'll learn who lives, who dies, and whether any permanent changes are coming.
We get our first moment, ever, where Ultra Boy shows a brain and actually questions what Apparition is doing - she's comforting Dragonmage and trying to help him. He points out that everything bad that happened is Dragonmage's fault - which is completely true. But Apparition points out that this doesn't matter - they need to help him recover from his injuries.
We go the battlefield, where Dirk Morgna and Brika, the dryad, have survived the fight and are no longer possessed by the elementals, but the other two died. The team starts trying to help everyone else who fought and who's looking a little worse for wear.
Saturn Girl proceeds to lay into Star Boy for leaving monitor duty to Dreamer and he admits to having made a ton of mistakes. So when other Legionnaires save the day by ignoring their duties (cough... Live Wire... cough...) it's fine but when Thom does...
More changes as Dirk realizes that he now sees everything differently and feels like the elemental is still inside him. Mysa offers to help and he gladly takes her up on it. He also realizes that he's got to help rebuild Tokyo after all the destruction, so Cosmic Boy suggests Magnoball games to raise money... no thought of the millions of people who are dead or injured after Dirk was possessed. But Magnoball!!
In a moment of an actual honest reaction to what's happened, when Dragonmage wakes up, Dirk immediately attacks him and tries to kill him. They drag him off and Dragonmage tries to defend himself, lying that he didn't know what was going to happen. Okay, honestly, if he gets away with this without even the tiniest punishment, even if it's self-inflicted, I won't be happy.
Then Brika finally succumbs to her injuries, but not before getting Mysa and Element Lad to promise to build a memorial for her destroyed planet. Man, she got the worst of all the beings that were possessed and, again, is any Legionnaire actually going to recognize that an entire planet of sentient beings were killed?
Continuing the "we have no idea how to write Live Wire" problem, he shows up from the Outpost and is immediately ripped apart for being a child and acting like an idiot. Not only does Saturn Girl criticize him, but so do Umbra and Chameleon. Again, just no idea why they're doing this and you know there will be no payoff.
Dragonmage continues moping around, watching how the other Legionnaires behave and hopefully he's learning something. For some crazy reason, Cosmic Boy takes time out of helping the others so he can yell at Alux Cuspin while he's in jail. I know they're setting up all of these scenes to show Dragonmage realizing what he did wrong, but this is so heavy-handed and cliched that it's just not working.
We end this issue with two moments that are handled so strangely that I'm not sure if the writers were even thinking clearly as they were happening.
First, Dragonmage surrenders to the Science Police and takes responsibility for everything that he did. Saturn Girl seems to almost want to defend him and then immediately flips and says he's gotta learn from his own mistakes. Also, do the S.P.s even know what they're arresting him for? Was anything explained to them? He basically just walks up, they cuff him, and it's over. They're trying to do something dramatic and just missing the mark.
And then Mysa and Jan build a monument to... Brika. On Mordru's prison planet. What? Why? What? How does that make any sense? How could they think this is what she wanted? Man, this epilogue to the elemental story just didn't work on any level and had so many weird, crazy, and nasty scenes that I'm just scratching my head.
LSH #118 - Your last Alan Davis cover, so enjoy!
We're continuing with a new villain, a Rimborian landlord named Pernisius who's been absorbing the Captain Marvel powers from the remains of what used to be the Rock of Eternity (the source of all the Marvels' powers) and has decided the best thing to do is pull every piece towards his home planet, rebuild it, and be the most powerful being in the universe.
Or, in his words:
I am already the most powerful being -- and of course, the most significant landlord -- in all the universe! I will amass history's greatest real estate empire, starting with -- a new continent here on Rimbor, my flagship property! The continent of Pernisia!
I wonder how drunk you have to be to write dialogue like that.
I also wonder how many times the writers watched the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie (and the only Brandon Routh Superman movie) and thought, "Everyone loves when the villain only cares about real estate!"
It should come as no surprise to anyone that this whole battle ends when Thunder disobeys Invisible Kid's orders, figures out a way to give the Legion the Eternity powers, and defeats the villain.
It should also come as no surprise that the Rock of Eternity is recreated on Rimbor, is nowhere close to the size of the original rock, and they've completely ignored that the Rock is back, in tact, and not part of Rimbor in the future. Once again, the creative team couldn't be bothered to maintain any internal consistency in their own story.
But for the "happy ending", Thunder can go back and forth between the Legion and her home and parents way in the future as she tries to figure out how to bring her powers with her. So she's staying with the team for at least the next couple of issues.
What makes no sense to me is that, by this point in time, the creative team must know this book is heading towards cancellation and a restart. Why not wrap up as many stories as they can?
Legionnaires #75
So one of the two things keeping Legionnaires even slightly more engaging than Legion is the fact that Tom Peyer isn't writing it. Who's the guest writer this issue? If you guessed Peyer, you'll understand my pain.
And, much to my pleasant surprise, he turns in a surprisingly decent one-issue story. Wow! It's not enough for me to take back all of my criticisms of his work, but I will commend him when he does get something right.
Or should I be focusing my ire on McCraw?
Anyway, the premise of this story is that there's some evil ship pretending to be the founding members of the Legion flying around a far-away planet and killing the citizenry. So everyone on the planet is deathly afraid of the Legion and, especially, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, and Live Wire.
When one of them gets off planet and would rather commit suicide than face Spark, the original three go and investigate. They uncover that it's all a huge plot by the king to quell any rebellions and they quickly wreck the ship, throw the king out of palace, and (hehe) make the angry and abused mob swear not to kill their monarch.
I must be honest - I do sometimes love when the Legionnaires are so naive they don't have an even basic understanding of how other beings feel.
Anyway, the art is top notch, again, as Jeff Moy turns in another great issue. The story works and the three actually act like real people, not just glorified cardboard cutouts and, in Live Wire's case, a jerk. And they resolve the "Live Wire's mad he's at the Outpost away from Imra" storyline. I think this might be the first issue where I get the sense the creative team is looking to wrap stuff up before the end of the series.
The single best part of the book, however, is the one page that will probably get glossed over - the final page. We see effigies of the Legion and king being burned in the background. But in the foreground, we see one young girl staring up at the Legion poster with a look of... dare I say hope? Could this planet play a larger part in the future?
Well, of course not, but it was a nice idea.
LSH #119
Is this a Phil Jimenez cover here? Wow... yet another artist who I wish they could get to draw the Legion. Why are they teasing us with these covers? I guess it's like those old George Perez covers over some horrible Steve Ditko Legion.
So let's talk about what kind of logic goes into writing a comic book that's struggling in sales. When you're trying to improve sales, you add characters that will get people to buy the comic. At DC, you add Superman or Batman and sales go up.
Of course, if you just want to keep the book struggling, you add characters from another book that's been cancelled - in this case, L.E.G.I.O.N.
There are really only two interesting things that happen in this issue:
  • We see that Gear has been repaired and, I guess, is part of the team. Unfortunately for him, he ends up being the unlucky being who has to listen to Apparition and M'onel tell their story of one adventure with the L.E.G.I.O.N.
  • We learn that Brainiac 5.1 cheats at video games.
Aside from that, this is a complete throwaway book that doesn't really accomplish anything and, honestly, just makes two heroes look bad. Are we supposed to like M'onel and Apparition more when it's revealed that they were perfectly fine with working with a planet of cannibals and did nothing to stop it? Yes, I know that was L.E.G.I.O.N.'s standard operating procedure, but anyone who didn't read that book would just think they're horrible.
Let's keep limping along...
Legionnaires #76
Wow - XS is back. We haven't seen her in a while, have we? But glad we're getting flashback issues about the L.E.G.I.O.N.
We start in a hospital as the Legion is trying to save an energy being in a crystal... oh no, I remember this... no...
To explain how we got here, we go back to Mordru's planet, where everyone is recovering and we actually get a little character development from Umbra. Wow - finally something that shows who she is.
Dirk Morgna starts seeing some weird, invisible energy being floating around with his new vision powers. Mysa uses her magic to see the energy pattern and she says it seems familiar. That makes no sense, but let's continue. A U.P. officer shoots it, because they're all idiots, and the energy blasts back.
Umbra contains it in a darkfield and then Element Lad changes the dust around it into a crystal. Mysa continues to talk about how it's a familiar presence and then finally gives the big reveal: it's what remains of Atom'X, the member of the Amazers who was killed by Mordru back in Legionnaires #49.
On Medstation One, where they've got Atom'X energy in the crystal, Saturn Girl probes for consciousness and finds that there are actually two people in the energy: Atom'X - Randall Burroughs and Blast-Off of the Workforce - Jahr-Drake Ningle.
Oh no...
The Legion pulls together all the equipment, doctors, and scientists they need (wouldn't want to call Brainy or Lyle, huh?) and they put together a suit to put the energy into.
We get more of Umbra's personality as well, as she keeps referencing her home planet, her culture, and her desire to no longer disgrace herself. As much as I like seeing this, couldn't they have done this before? Ever? Or just make this consistent so we're getting it for every character?
My only big problem with this is that Umbra is being written as almost someone who's got multiple personalities. There's nothing consistent here and it's just making her into a much more unlikable character by the end. Why do this? They're almost turning her into another Andromeda and I don't understand how this makes any sense, especially with everything else they've done with her character before. It also makes no sense for M'onel to hang out with someone so xenophobic.
The energy flies into the suit and it starts moving around. It's a nice red and orange and ugh... and what does it decide to call itself? Drake Burroughs. Which makes no sense but ugh..
Look, I've made no secret that Wildfire is my favorite character but this just seems like a weird way to bring the character back, especially because there was no build up to this at all. I may have missed it, but after a scan over the Mordru story, I don't think they ever named Atom'X or Blast-Off, so just throwing these names out is forcing a round story into a square plot.
This really doesn't work for me at all.
LSH #120
I screwed up and wrote one extra issue this week, so enjoy this bonus... or I'm just rushing to get the end of this...
So guessing by the new Phil Jimenez cover, we've lost Alan Davis for good and he's taken over. Can't say I'm shocked that Davis was done, but it's still a shame that the interiors look so much worse than the interiors.
We also see that Scott Kolins is inking his own work here, so we'll be able to judge if it's him or the inkers that have kinda lowered the quality of the book.
The first half of the book shows the Emerald Eye breaking 4 of the Fatal Five (Mano is no longer a member) out of Takron-Galtos. It actually works as we meet all of the members and they bring back a text piece, pretending to write the marketing plan for the prison. It's a great call back to some older Legion stories... but, yet again, I'm just going to complain that the font they chose is so bad that it's almost unreadable.
We also learn that Takron-Galtos tortures some prisoners (Thanok) and forces other to perform slave labor (The Persuader). Wow. Once again, are you trying to make us sympathetic to the villains? To those two, at least. The Emerald Empress killing everyone near her doesn't really help her cause.
The Eye reveals that it broke the four out so that she can serve the Empress and better focus its skills. Makes absolutely no sense, even less by bonding with the Empress, but they needed to get them back together and chose the simplest way to do it.
To the Legion Outpost we go, where Gates is ranting about how horrible the Legion is while wanting to spend time with Brainiac 5.1 while the rest of the Legion is on vacation. Yet again, we're throwing out character development to return everyone back to their original personalities. Didn't Gates grow a little and accept the usefulness of the Legion? Also, it's a shame that Brainy is so dismissive of Gates' ideas to feed hungry children. That's not a good look. Maybe he's the future version of a .
As they continue to bicker, the Fatal Five (is the Eye a separate member now?) arrive and Gates rushes to fight them off. Thankfully, Brainy joins to help.
Here's one of those moments where the hero is a complete idiot and does something they should never do. To set the scene: The Emerald Eye, the Empress, Thanok, the Persuader, and Validus have just broken into the Outpost to loot and destroy. Gates, whose only power is teleportation, does exactly that and faces them. Why? Why would he do this? He spends so much time ranting about how bad the Legion is but yet rushes into certain death to protect the ship, which he earlier moaned about costing so much money. If it was Ultra Boy or M'onel rushing in, I'd be fine with it. But Gates?
Unfortunately for Gates, they needed to have Brainy save the day, so he gets to be the cannon fodder. Of course, Brainy saves him and escapes. Even worse, Gates then apologizes for rushing into the fight without thinking and Brainy says he envies that Gates acts without thinking. What?
By the end of the issue, Brainy and Gates have escaped and the Fatal Five have taken over the Outpost. Which, of course, means nothing because there are security codes and backups to prevent someone from doing this. Right? I mean Brainy and Lyle woulda thought of that. Right? You mean my work laptop is more secure than the Legion Outpost? Wow this book just gets dumber and dumber.
Luckily we only have five more Legion issues to go.
Our Legionnaire in the spotlight this week... Matter-Eater Lad!!!
Is this canon? Can he eat at super-speed?

I've spent a lot of time talking about Matter-Eater Lad before. He became a key member of the 5YL Legion and, since he was one writer's favorite character, got a completely undeserved amount of attention and solo issues. I'm not writing this to offend Tenzil Kem fans, honest. But no one can tell me that the 5YL Legion, with its dense plot lines and mysteries, needed to give him 3 complete solo issues. I'd say the same thing about any Legionnaire.
I also think that his issues in 5YL were so drastically different from the rest of the series that they landed with a thud. I know many found them funny but I didn't. I just found those issues as tributes to the silliness of a lot of the Silver Age stories and were tonally so askew from what the book had become that I looked upon them with dread instead of delight. I will admit that I may be holding that against poor Tenzil as well, which obviously isn't the character's fault, but it does sour my take on the character.
This might offend the fans now - I never thought he should be a Legionnaire and I always felt that Tenzil was a product of the Silver Age that didn't work any other time. Heck, even when he was showing up during 5YL, I just could never justify his membership. His superpower is that he can eat anything. That's it. He's not a great fighter. He's not super smart. He's not a leader. He's not anything else. Funny, maybe, but that's it. But there's only one Legionnaire that I have a harder time with and he's the one no one ever brings back. Poor Condo...
One reader commented that Tenzil represents the Legion at its core - someone who's better than his powers and someone who works to be their best. And the Legion has always been about super-heroes who aren't obviously strong but have a different kind of strength.
So, Bouncing Boy?
My memories of M-E Lad are of him miraculously saving everyone from Omega and then disappearing. He spent a long time catatonic and when he was finally cured, he never came back in any meaningful way. Sorry, but I just don't have any emotional connection to him at all.
But having said all that, I will still argue that he deserves to be in any Legion reboot moving forward and I'd love to see a good creative team turn him into someone that I want to read about. As I've said before, every character is someone's favorite and they should be handled with that level of respect.
Instead of the down votes that I know are coming from this take, I'm going to ask you to do something else - tell me what issues I should be reading that show me just how valuable M-E Lad is. He was a joke in 5YL, he was a playboy and a jerk in SV6, so please don't use those. I actually think his best is during PZH, when he's the chef and team supporter. I like this role for Tenzil and actually think it's the perfect place for him.
But what SilveBronze age issues show just how important M-E Lad is and how he's central to the team? Make me do a deep dive into something I've glossed over.
With that, the gauntlet has been thrown down! Let's hope some of you come back next week as we continue the death march to the end of these books.

2024.05.10 18:56 Vuccappella Finding trending templates/sounds?

Hi Everyone, I'm not in to social media marketing but for better or worse my job will require me to create some content for social media.
I was wondering if there are websites or some kind of services which post current social media trends including examples (specifically tiktok and instagram trends) and ideally also provide the resources for the trends (if for example it's a meme they provide the cutout for the meme or the greenscreened video or the sound byte being used etc.).
If such a thing doesn't exist, first of all why? 😭
Second, how do you keep track and find the trends if there's no centralized hub?
Third, how do you find the video/audio/picture templates used that you want to re-use?
Thank you!
