OCC Proposing Changes To Absorb Losses Because They Are First In Line To Take Losses [Schadenfraude 🕺💃]
Schadenfreude: Happiness at the misfortune of others [Wikipedia and Rent (Musical)]
A couple recent OCC proposals have caught my eye with keywords "Operational Loss Fee", "Stress Testing", "Clearing Fund", and "Liquidity Risk Management":
These are pretty tit jacking because you may recall the OCC proposed reducing margin requirements to prevent a cascade of Clearing Member failures earlier this year which thousands of apes staunchly commented against [Example Comment Template] so the SEC has preliminarily decided to reject this OCC Proposal [Simians Smash SEC Rule Proposal To Reduce Margin Requirements To Prevent A Cascade of Clearing Member Failures].
Apes smashing that margin reducing Rule Proposal now leaves the OCC first in line to take on losses - just as the OCC requested [Pension Pilfering Playbook]. Which makes me a little bit happy to see the OCC increasing their Operational Loss Fee by $8M (~4.6%) effective immediately:
Operational Loss Fee ⬆️
And I'm also a little bit happy to see the OCC has now found two stress test scenarios that predict greater loss exposures which the OCC now wants to use for collecting margin from Clearing Members.

Funny how increasing their loss absorbing buffers happen after apes commented on Rule Proposals.
You apes helped make this happen.

2024.05.21 22:22 akrro HyperX Cloud user looking for new headphones

Hi All,
Let me just complete the template, from the pinned post:
What aspect of your current listening experience would you like to improve?
I just want something different (better?), I'm using Clouds exlusively for a long time now (OG, Cloud 2, Cloud Alpha)
Budget - +/- 250$
Source/Amp - Focusrite solo 3rd gen. - mainly for a guitar, but I do plug my headphones into it as well, I guess it's better than nothing at all
How the gear will be used - Music, gaming (comptetive CS2, other FPS games), movies sometimes - mainly at home, maybe a little lan party with friends from time to time
Preferred tonal balance - I enjoy "bassy" sound (I heard that Clouds are "bass-heavy" maybe that's why I used them for so long)
Preferred music genre(s) - Post-harcore, metalcore, rock in general. Sometimes old dubstep, drum'n'bass, some polish rap, example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpOX9_6G5EY&ab_channel=TacoHemingway
Past gear experience - Clouds were my first "decent" headphones and I've never bought other brand
Of course I looked at some reviews already, my favorite right now are Beyerdynamics DT 700 Pro X, I've always liked the looks of DT 770, but the cable is not detachable (this is a must) and their sound described as "flat", I'd like bass to be present, but not overwhelming

2024.05.21 21:45 four_hawks PDF via Quarto -- "nested" child docs?

What I Want
I want to create a reproducible report (Quarto PDF) on some evaluation survey data collected from a series of training sessions (i.e., 101 through 105) across multiple cohorts (A through E). The structure of the report should be:
  1. Introduction
  2. Methods
  3. Results
    1. Cohort A
      1. Session 101
      2. Session 102
      3. Etc
    2. Cohort B
      1. Session 101
      2. Session 102
      3. Etc
    3. Etc.
  4. Conclusion
The subsection for each session follows the same pattern (one figure and one table regarding instructors, one figure and one table regarding learning objectives, one figure and one table regarding overall experience, and verbatim responses to open-ended items).
What I've Done
I've run all analyses, created the figures/tables, and stored them in nested lists. So for example, the instructor plot for Session 102 in Cohort A is stored in instruct_plots$\A`$`102`.`
For similar reports, I've created a template .Rmd "session" doc, then used pmap() to loop over the template for each session, following this example. The code looks like this:
# Use loop to knit template (as child doc) for each session out <- dat %>% distinct(Session_num, Session) %>% as.list() %>% pmap(function(Session_num, Session) knitr::knit_expand("section_template.Rmd")) # Knit templates res = knitr::knit_child(text = unlist(out), quiet = TRUE) # Return templated output as raw markdown cat(res, sep = "\n")
The template then pipes the arguments to knit_expand() allowing me to give chunks unique names (important for cross-referencing). The beginning of the section template .Rmd looks like this:
### Module {{Session_num}}: {{Session}} #### Instructors Responses to items regarding instructors are shown in Figure\ \@ref(fig:instructors-{{Session_num}}) and Table\ \@ref(tab:instructors-tab-{{Session_num}}). The majority of respondents somewhat agreed or strongly agreed with each item. ```{r instructors-{{Session_num}}, fig.cap="{{Session}} - Instructors"} pluck(instruct_plots, "{{Session_num}}") ``` ```{r instructors-tab-{{Session_num}}} pluck(instruct_tabs, "{{Session_num}}") %>% format.table(cap = "{{Session}} - Instructors") # Function I made to format tables ```
The Problem
I need a way to loop the rendering of the session template across cohorts; in other words, to somehow have sessions nested within cohorts. The only content I need at the cohort level is a level-two heading and a \clearpage command. I've tried different combinations of looping with knit_expand(), rmarkdown::render(), and knitr::knit_child(), but I can't seem to achieve this nesting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; happy to provide more details as needed!

2024.05.21 21:24 RossGarner Re-Reading Rhythm of War Notes + Theories

I've just completed my re-read of all of Stormlight in anticipation of the WaT coming out later this year. To say I'm excited for the new book would be an understatement.
Throughout my time reading Sanderson's works (Stormlight first then Mistborn Era 1+2, then everything else), I had largely considered Rhythm to be the weakest of the Stormlight series, with rating being something like Oathbringer as a 9.5, WoK a 9, Words of Radiance 8, Rhythm 7.
On my re-read however my view of Rhythm improved markedly and several of the issues I had originally seemed to fall away:
  1. Kaladin repeats his storyline from the first two books.
  2. Navani's storyline with Raboniel felt like lore dumping instead of the slow trickle discovery that worked so well in the Way of Kings
  3. Venli's flashbacks are so boring that Eshonai actually just takes them over.
  4. Szeth straight up murdering Taravangian is just written off by Dalinar, etc.
  5. Kal's big 4th ideal moment is so convoluted they need to bring in time-slowing, speaking across continents and is separated by so many other moments that it loses all tension of Kal falling after Lirin
1st: The first was my biggest complaint. I had always thought Kaladin just replays his arc from the first novels, but on re-read, he is actually learning to grow beyond his old coping mechanism: his men and Bridge 4. Needing to fight and protect them was the identity he created to deal with being enslaved and watching of his squad being murdered by Amaram, but he's growing past that now.
2nd: On re-read I really really appreciated the Navani-Raboniel relationship more and feel like I glossed over this too fast in my first read. Raboniel ends up being a great character and a very interesting looking at someone utterly desperate to escape the prison of a life she is placed in by this eternal war. Navani's appreciation for her near the end after ending her daughter's life and her scenes with Moash were after all.
3rd: Conversely, this one seemed to be an even stronger take than before. Venli's chapters really just felt insufferable to me. I realize her story is about the awful things that happen with a literal child being forced to be responsible for the survival of her people, but her storyline just doesn't feel believable, especially the scenes in Kholinar where she just does everyone's bidding while igniting a war that effectively dooms multiple nations.
4th: This one....really doesn't make sense to me. I hope this is something addressed in WaT, but Szeth walked into Taravangian's room and just murdered a prisoner. We the reader know that Taravangian escaped and took up the shard of Odium, so never actually died....but Dalinar in the Radiants legitimately thing he murdered an elderly prisoner in cold blood with no authorization or process of justice. Dalinar immediately sending him on a mission to Shinovar with Kaladin seems insane given these circumstances.
5th: On re-read I liked this scene much more than I did in my original read, but I feel like it was just overdone so much. Dalinar's forgiveness scene in Oathbringer I think was the perfect template for Kaladin falling through the storm. It would have been better for him as a character to overcome his unwillingness to say the Fourth Ideal on his own, but even if he needed Dalinar to help him, then it would have been better to keep his entire falling plot within a single chapter instead of chopping it up so much. The constant jump cuts really ruined the tension of his fall and his return.
That was really just a stream of consciousness on the books as I finished them, but a few theories I have:
  1. Kaladin is re-walking the same paths that Tanavast walked long in the past. In WoKs Kaladin almost ends his life at the HONOR chasm, presumably where Honor was splintered. The Stormfather later tells Dalinar that Tanavast loved humans and died protecting them. My guess would be Tanavast made a promise to protect both the Singers and the Humans, and was torn apart trying to honor both of those promises much like Kal was during WoR trying to protect Elhokar while also agreeing to help his murderers. More on this right below.
  2. In Mistborn era 1, we are continually led to believe Vin will be the Hero of Ages, but in the end Sazed takes up both shards to form Harmony. Scadrial at the time was plagued by so many environmental disasters that the person to take up the power of the shards needed to be wise enough to use the power to remake the world itself: a task that Vin would have been incredibly ill suited for. I think a story conclusion is very similar in Stormlight, the true problem Roshar faces is the cycle of eternal war that destroys the planet and its people of both Singer and human descent. The person to eventually take up Honor / Odium / Cultivation etc. must be someone who can legitimately bring an end to the war and find a way to peacefully coexist. Kal so far seems like the best example, Dalinar is intent on leading the Radiants as a military force to oppose Odium directly, while Kal has had significant time with the Singers and humans of every kind, and he sees them as no different from each other.
  3. Odium's offer to Dalinar near the end of the book, where the contest of champions is hashed out seems to have some spoilers: Odium: "Though I will be able to focus my attentions on sending agents to the rest of the Cosmere, using what I've conquered here as enough for now." as an addendum to the terms Dalinar demands if he wins. In Mistborn Era 2 we see two groups that are agents of Odium (the Skybreakers and the Iriali) operating on Scadrial. This seems like it indicates that Dalianr will be victorious and Odium will focus on sending agents to other planets and systems.
  4. Dalinar: "I intend to be my own champion, I'll have died if you win." Odium "Yesssss, you will have. And you will give your soul to me. You Dalinar will join the Fused. You will become immortal." Human Fused are confirmed then. Who do we know wanted to become immortal and was generally a huge asshole who caused most of these problems? Gavilar. My pet theory is Gavilar will be Odium's champion when it is revealed that Odium made him a Fused after Szeth killed him. Gavilar being Odium's champion is a great explanation for why we start every single book looking at Gavilar through a different perspective in the prologues and will be a great emotional moment for Dalinar to face off against Gavilar one final time. No one else seems like it will have the same emotional weight as Gavilar, bringing a random Fused we've never heard of to get stomped by Dalinar would be anti-climatic while Gavilar could be an excellent twist for the series with lots of pontential foresadowing left to us in the prologues.
Monster wall of text, but just tons of thoughts as I just finished the novels again yesterday.

2024.05.21 20:11 Beace892 Animated Text Presets, needed?

I’m strongly considering creating a secondary YouTube channel to essentially give away text presets and show how to use them. These animations use a lot of anim curves and shake modifiers to simplify the animation process.
I noticed that After Effects offers a lot of nice looking text presets, but DVR’s are kind of mediocre.
What do you guys think? What’s the demand for something like this?
EDIT: I added in an example - a customizable Text + Preset with the animation (also customizable) included. Check it out

For those that don't know, this goes in your

2024.05.21 19:52 Reasonable_Bobcat_79 Can someone help me for my homework, I am desperate rn

As a lab project or homework, the supervisor gave me and my teammate a game to write in assembly. The conditions are very hard and the game is ridicuolus. But we have to do. Even chatgpt couldn't. I'll be so glad if someone help me. Here is the conditions: · Create a 80 × 25 character game screen. You are given a bird image in bird.txt Lile. Image is divided six pieces and matched with the dice numbers as 1 vase. 2 legs 3 body 4 left wing 5 right wing 6 head · The bird image must be completed starting from the vase and next piece must be connected to the image on screen. For example, there is no piece in the screen, players must roll dice until 1 comes. When pieces 1 and 2 are on the screen, next piece can only be piece 3. After piece 3 is completed, pieces 4, 5, and 6 can be placed on the image since all three are connected with piece 3. · The player uses space key to roll the dice. · The player’s aim is to complete the bird Lirst. · During the play, a score box which contain the real-time score has to be displayed to the player. · Scoring: ↓ completer of the bird gets 1 pt. · The game is over when bird image is completed 3 times. The high score player wins the game. · If the winner is one of the human player, the winner name is displayed on a blank screen as ”The Winner is .......” with all capital letter player name. · If the winner is computer, ”Nice try, better luck next time” is displayed on a blank screen. · If a player wins Lirst two rounds, third round is skipped and the winner is displayed. · There should be a menu which contains ↓ Single Player ↓ Enter the Player name : ↓ Two Players ↓ Enter the Player 1 name : ↓ Enter the Player 2 name : ↓ Credits (show your name/surname, and ID on the screen.) · Interface should be deLined with 80x25 characters 16 color text mode (Video Mode 03H for INT 10H). · When the code is assembled executable format should be an .EXE Lile, so use EXE template for your project. (Not .COM or .BIN Lile) · The assembly code Lile should include all the libraries it may call. The libraries that are already in emu8086 (i.e. in Llat assembler) may not be included and directly called. · The source code should be assembled in emu8086. (i.e. Llat assembler) · The application should not get stuck in any unnecessary inLinite loops. · Program should be able to terminated with ESC key on keyboard in any time and return to operating system successfully. (Optionally a Close button can be added to interface.)

2024.05.21 19:15 rayfound What I have learned along the way

I wanted to take a few minutes to highlight a few things I think that don't get talked about a lot, things that I have picked up along the way making cocktails at home. Maybe it gives some others some good ideas, and maybe you'll chime in with your things that made cocktails easiecheapebetter.
Many of these are not original ideas per se. Not claiming credit for any, just advocating for them.
  1. Fruit syrups: Whether its about using up excess fruit, making the most of some underripe/overripe/scraps, or just getting a new flavor profile - I am struck with how easy it is to just take most any fruit/berry, combine with equal weight of sugar in a mason jar, lightly muddle and leave in the fridge for 24-48 hours. Then simply strain and keep in fridge. Seems to keep without degradation for at least a week or two. Blackberries for me are always hit or miss on being delicious or bland and sour... but even the ones that don't hit the mark as fresh berries make an awesome berry syrup.
  2. Orgeat: "Make and drink" 60-second orgeat from youtube is just an incredibly easy way to make top tier orgeat. It's great because it also allows you to make Macadamia or other nut orgeats with the same format. It costs about the same as 1-2 bottle from liber and co to get started, but you can make almost infinite orgeat.
  3. Syrup/Superjuice storage: I love the idea of the "Crew" bottles... storing syrups and juice in Glass containers that are easily cleaned in dishwasher? Awesome. $20 a bottle? not awesome. My solution? "Mason Jar Pouring lids" or whatever they are called. Come in regular and wide: https://imgur.com/a/us7t7tb - I have and use lots of mason jars, but hate pouring from them as there are always drips and a mess on the rim. These things to me are basically everything I wanted from the Crew bottles at a fraction of the price and more versatility. Only thing I don't like is they use a silicone gasket you have to be careful not to lose - I wish they were self sealing like the plastic mason jar "Leakproof" lids. I also love that I can then choose jar size to the specific to the thing I want to store.
  4. Prebatch/Portable cocktail/juice storage - Liquor bottles. I save my empties and reuse exactly once. I don't bother cleaning out the bottles - being alcohol they don't get moldy or anything, and then just fill them when needed. Once they've had the second use - I don't feel bad just tossing them in the recycling after.
  5. Superjuice/Acid Adjusting - Super juice is great for lemon/limes and just getting more output, stability, etc... but maybe my favorite thing is using that format to make acid-adjusted super mandarin juice, or acid adjusting pineapple juice, etc... the fun that can be opened up by swapping in orange or pineapple for lemon/lime in cocktails is really great. Flavors can change but balance stays the same.
  6. Make sugar syrups in jars: I don't like doing dishes. Coupled with the jar storage lids above, I find mason jars about the perfect vessel to make AND store the sugar syrups (I keep both turbinado and lightly processed white cane syrups on hand)... My method is simple: I put the mason jar on kitchen scale and fill about 2/3 with sugar. Then I tare scale and add 50% (2:1 Syrup) to 100% (1:1 syrup) of boiling water from the kettle. Stir with a spoon. For larger granular sugars, particularly in 2:1 ratio, I will often bump temp up again while stirring using microwave. Be careful not to boil or it makes a mess.
  7. Infinity rum bottle - Great way to keep the cabinet with some room. I keep one bottle that i just dump the last 1-2oz into. The blend varies and changes over time but it has never been bad, and generally makes a great all purpose tiki/mai tai blend. If your primary spirit is something else besides rum, try it with that. I don't bother tracking or calculating what is in the bottle.
  8. View recipes as templates, not specifics. This kind of combines the ideas in #5 and #1 - but have fun and experiment! Use recipes as a template but swap out ingredients to fill the roles, examples - I made an awesome "mai tai" format fall drink https://www.reddit.com/Tiki/comments/1746d9a/apple_of_my_tai/ I also have a lot of fun on a drink that is inspired by the Brazilian roasted-pineapple with cinnamon dessert: Use a daquiri as a template:
2 - Cachaca 1 - Lime-adjusted Pineapple juice .75 - Cinnamon Syrup (optionally add whipped egg white/pineapple foam)
Okay - now I hope to hear your inspiration!
Cheers.

2024.05.21 17:10 Famas_1234 FFXIV soundtrack has many motifs/leitmotifs, but does that mean it's better, or is it becoming predictable? (data inside)

FFXIV soundtrack has many motifs/leitmotifs, but does that mean it's better, or is it becoming predictable? (data inside)
This is more to observation regarding FFXIV music I hear and I feel/think to post here
FFXIV soundtrack factually has many leitmotifs even the community have tracked all the leitmotifs in a website form. I'm a bit enthusiastic about video game soundtracks at the past, but FFXIV feels like a good place to take the data for it. However, as the content formula is going established, or for better or worse matured, I think there is a predictability in the content including the tracks because they are tied to each other. So I want to open this from the data then we talk about the tracks themselves.
Based on what I've gathered and reread, motifs are musical notes/movements/passages that are modular to use and reuse whether inside that music or in specific contexts. Leitmotifs are applied by associating a moment with the motifs used, say like a specific character coming to the stage, the notes are played similarly which makes the music memorable by using leitmotif technique. This is also frequently used in FFXIV too. u/bortmode explains better since at least the person was in music major and knows the details behind it. Rearrangement is also a different thing as it takes entire movement in different form.
However, there must have something in the balance. Too reliant on motifs may sound boring. But no motifs may sound nothing or less memorable (unless they make you pump it out). With motifs and leitmotifs together, you can also predict the scene what will happen next. But you may argue not every moment must have motifs so that it can decrease predictability, or not everything must be reliant to it so that it may sound unique. I believe there is a technique for that. In the end, it's the composers'/arrangers' ability to create. They can use it, but it's about how they insert those. It can be subtle in plain sight, or blatantly in your face.
You may feel this kind of thing, and I feel that too. But because I am usually data driven, I would like to share the data, accompanied by how the game is designed. The game design is also crucial for the music itself.

The Data

To use the data. I use my sound tracker data whose the leitmotif tracker is based from the compendium. Here's the data I've collected so far
Album version. Imgur is blurry on mobile so you may refer to the sheet itself above. Too complicated? Alright then, I'll upload it here
FFXIV 1.0 is kinda minimal on motifs besides classic FF motifs
ARR motifs are increasing. Not to deny the major relaunch of the game
ARR 2.x is minimal in comes into reusability
Heavensward 3.0 was the first to establish the formula, hence high reusability
Then followed by 3.x which was the early template for future motifs
Stormblood 4.0 has high reusability based on the field themes, but still not as much as Heavensward. You can neglect other one-off FF themes (I blame collaborations)
Shadowbringers has high reusability, may on par or more then Heavensward. Ignore the 1s, they're bloated anyway
Shadowbringers patches are also good while maintaining the post patch status compared the launch patch
Endwalker is simplified but you can see the numbers are much higher. Maybe too much?
Too many 1s man. But also many motifs from previous versions are represented again

The Content and Implementation

For main expansion motifs, they can be separated into pieces. However, main expansion motifs usually being reordered to give variety, but still the same. This is the case for:
  1. Main theme: stores all the motifs <- the templates are here
  2. Field battle: some open world mobs
  3. Cities: most main theme motifs end up in here but in different flavors
  4. Field hub (aetherite)
  5. Dungeon midboss
  6. Dungeon boss
  7. Most cutscenes: usually for the expansions they can have 7 out of 10 tracks that shares the motifs inside the main theme
  8. Solo duties/story battles: usually tied to some parts of the main theme
  9. Occasionally some trials: usually for crucial trials there are some motifs in the main theme
  10. Occasionally some dungeons
  11. Occasionally some fields that is crucial enough to have main motif in main theme
With at least 11 categories related to main theme motifs, it is a fact that main theme is the most used within expansion. Let's say Heavensward motif. It has many and consistent motifs that can span to other contents outside what I mentioned in the list. Because expansions here are treated like a book or a movie serial, they need to use different motifs per season.
For field motif, especially at the expansions, usually used in 3 tracks:
  1. Field day
  2. Field night
  3. Dungeons: each field usually has a dungeon, so they rather use that field's motif to simplify the process
Each FFXIV expansions usually has 6 fields. This is actually many, just reuse the motifs then you're done. In fact field themes are foundational. It started from main field day theme, then getting a piano rendition in night theme, then make an intense version in dungeon theme.
That means, you can estimate for each expansion, you probably get at least 11 main categories + 6 fields * 3 = 29 tracks. It can be more if we count more cutscene music and other eventful music that uses motifs. It can be approximately 35 tracks with motifs, but that is in estimate.
Yes, I made the numbers above without reference, but let's go to the real data. Let's open Endwalker album as the example. Here's what I get. This writing is going too messy later
With 63 tracks, you can see some major numbers are at least proven compared to approximate
Notes:
  1. Main theme is expected. However, FFXIV usually has two main themes. In Endwalker's case, it's "Endwalker" and "Flow" as they are usually promoted in their YT channel. This main theme can be applied the category I mentioned before. Let's say 12 tracks
    1. Endwalker motif is used in most cutscenes
    2. Flow motif is also used in most cutscenes. Sometimes it also tandems with Endwalker motif
  2. Cities: 2 day, 2 night, 1 neutral. That uses "Flow" motif. That goes 5
  3. Story cutscene: of 11 tracks, there are 3 independent tracks. That goes 7
  4. Dungeon midboss and boss. That's 2
  5. Each field has dungeon. It's 6 fields*3+2 extra dungeons = 20
WIth this, you can get at least 12+5+7+2+20= 46 tracks with related motifs. It may be inaccurate, but you may get the picture
With Endwalker data above, I've counted that only 5/63 tracks (~8%) that are independent from the motifs.

Motifs/Leitmotifs are contextual, but how predictable in FFXIV?

Predictability here comes into sections:
  1. The events. May be a place, character, or some game elements
  2. How the music is made. May be the composition/arrangement itself
However, predictable doesn't also mean it's worse. Again, it's about how they implement it. Prediction can also be good if done properly. You learn more about some melodies and if there's something happened, you can refer to said melody, and it's fine.
There are also more than motifs/leitmotifs. It's a rearrangement. This is prevalent in field themes converted into dungeon/raid themes. Say like "Neath Dark Waters", "To The Edge" and "Fleeting Moment", they share the same passage but the way they deliver the passage is different. You can feel the musical contrast between these, and that's still fine. Context and emotion is still important as that is the foundation of the art itself
It may be predictable for main and field themes because how the game is structured. It could be better or worse. You may suggest like this:
  1. Make the field theme variative.
    1. The open field has two methods. Loop the track or play-silent-play the track. If the latter is used, it would be beneficial to have variant tracks. Take Genshin as the example. The open nature of that game allows to cycle the tracks. In fact, FFXIV ARR had this method especially in La Noscea, Thanalan, and Black Shroud. They have multiple movements in a track hence why the track is long. The question: should they revisit that method?
  2. Make the music longer or variate the melody
    1. If the gameplay is around the 2 minute meta, you don't realize that the music anecdotally follows that too. That is a single take without loop. You can variate by extend the music for a bit or maybe at least rearrange them.
    2. The concrete example I got is Monster Hunter music. That game has many renditions of monster themes while keeping the same melody. They have variations across the melody too
  3. Let other composers make their foundational motifs
    1. Currently most FFXIV tracks are composed by Soken as the foundational part, maybe like 80% of each album (not to be confused with arrangement). Would it better to have other music staffs to compose as the foundation?
But there is a shock factor which makes it unexpected
Shock factor here means you don't expect one/some of the motifs are applied in the scene you are currently in. For example, who would think The Twinning music is a combination of Crystal Tower and Omega motif? Who would also think Anamnesis Anyder uses long buried Sastasha motif? How about mash all the old motifs in your face like how they made "Embers" which includes all tracks related to Lahabrea? How do you expect "Dynamis" comes back to "Flow" motif? This factor makes one of the most memorable musical experience in FFXIV.

Bonus: I already know who made this track

Related posts:
  1. How to spot FFXIV composer
  2. A Thread of Interviews and Showcases Related to CBU3 music team (FFXIV and FFXVI)
I just leave those here because this topic may be related to them and how the music workflow goes. In the end, you can predict who composes/arranges the music based on the style/implementation

Closing

And so that's it. What do you think about current formula of FFXIV music? Has it become better or worse?
I have ongoing survey about FFXIV music. You can pick before a week before Dawntrail!

2024.05.21 16:30 jottrled I found an idea for a micro saas that already has good potential. What do you think? Is it a go-er?

Validating startup ideas as a solopreneur is hard. This is what most people do when they have a great idea:
OR
This can lead to a huge amount of time wasted (and a major shot at the ego). A better way of doing this is:
Below is an example of a Micro Saas Idea that fits this framework:

What's the idea?

AirBnB Safety and Security Checklist
"A Micro Saas that provides the ability to create comprehensive safety and security checklists for Airbnb hosts to ensure their properties meet safety standards and regulations, providing peace of mind to both hosts and guests."
What's the SEO Potential?
Check this article out to find out why this is important.
The keyword difficulty here is really low which means it will be pretty easy to start ranking high on Google for this. We have 1 main keyword and 2 long tail keywords that you an target, all with a low difficulty of 11.
The main keyword has a nice and healthy 1000 people searching for it on Google every month while the other long tail keywords have upwards of 200 people searching for it so you could potentially gain some traffic by targeting these long tail keywords in articles on your website (see how you can do that here).
Note: these search volumes are for US alone so the potential for worldwide traffic is huge.
What could the main features of this Micro Saas be?
Some nice to haves you could add

Conclusion

This is a nice and simple Micro Saas product that you could start ranking in the top 10 on Google for quite easily and have 1000+ people per month find when they search for "airbnb checklist".
I'll leave you with 2 options for building your next product.
Option A: Build a product or landing page and hope that people are interested in it.
Option B: Target low difficulty keywords with high search volumes. Build your product around that, launch, add your product to directories and get traffic on autopilot.
If your interested in this type of thing I share Micro Saas Ideas like this every week in my newsletter so feel free to join me here to find more profitable micro ideas.

2024.05.21 15:59 Asurerain Community event concept : A Certain Community Pokémon League

Community event concept : A Certain Community Pokémon League
Here is an idea of a Community event I plan on hosting on this sub starting tomorrow:
This would go the same way as I have done in DeathBattleMatchups : here
To make it short : Everyday we will assign (most upvote comment) one or a group of Toaru character(s) to a Pokémon league position (Gym Leader, Elite 4 and League Champion) as well as giving them a Pokémon team specialized in their type like for example : Misaka Mikoto as a 5th Gym Leader specialized in Electric types :
Bellibolt for Gekota, Vikavolt for her Railgun, Alolan Raichu for how she can use electromagnetisme to move around, Shiny Palossand for her iron sand
This post is here to gather sub members' opinions on rules that should be applied to make this event more fun for most people. Rules would be for exemple :
  • Should official crossover characters be allowed ?
  • Should special pokemons be allowed (Legendary, Mythical, Ultra-Beast and Paradox) ?
  • Should the character's team composition be limited to their position (For Example : Should a 1st gym leader only have 2 pokemons or do we give them a full team like a league champion)
  • and so on...
I invite anyone interested in this event to give their opinion on what would make such event more interesting and fun for everyone.
Also here's the template I am going to use for this event so feel free to give suggestion about it too

2024.05.21 13:32 IliaKWriter How can I improve my obsidian for writing world lore and what plugins might be useful?

How can I improve my obsidian for writing world lore and what plugins might be useful?
Sorry for too many words and bad language, I use GoogleTranslate for this text, because I'm Russian.
I’ve been writing my world for a very long time, and I did it first on paper, then on Google Drive, then on Notion, and finally transferred it to obsidian. I really like the ease and system of linking documents using [[]], but I still feel that the system is not ideal.I’ve been writing my world for a very long time, and I did it first on paper, then on Google Drive, then on Noushen, and finally transferred it to obsidian. I really like the ease and system of linking documents using [[]], but I still feel that the system is not ideal.
Now I use Dataview, DB Folder and GlobalSearch. But I mostly use the latter, since Dataview is not particularly suitable when working with hundreds of files (well, or I don’t use it that way). What I mean is this: I tried to do it like in Notion, so that if I left a link to y in file x, then there would automatically remain a link in y to x, but to do this, you first need to go to the table that contains x, then to the one that contains x. what does it contain (if it is not the same one), and be sure that everything is updated (and with many files this does not happen).
I am attaching a photo of what my files look like now. In square brackets there are links to other files, without correspondingly just text. My idea is that all the features can be described in some blocks, which gives me brevity and clarity for understanding what I wrote.
What I would like to understand how to do:
  1. is it possible to create templates for files (by type for character, place, story, etc.), now I have created a separate folder from which I simply copy the text for the desired file
  2. Is it possible that when such templates are changed, the files associated with them also change?
  3. How to work with dates? Dataview, like Nouse, refuses to work with dates earlier than 0000.00.00, and in general they are not intended to show events that are not today. Naturally, my calendar is not the same, the years are different. And is it possible to somehow get a timestamp directly in obsidian?
  4. Is it possible to replace a certain phrase/word in all files at once (even GlobalSearch does not allow this), but it would be useful for me when changing a character’s name, for example.
  5. Actually, is it possible to mutually link files at once? I described the problem above.
  6. I have almost 4500 lore files, how best to organize them (now there are a bunch of folders and that seems to be the norm, but maybe you know better)
  7. Is it possible to view files by some criterion in one file? (for example, events in a biography)
  8. Any other advice would also be grateful
There is also one problem, I guess that it is due to GlobalSearch, even 2
  1. it replaces more than is needed during a quick replacement, i.e. takes away not only what needs to be replaced
  2. files are sometimes replaced with complete nonsense, like the one in the 3rd picture. I make backups but I'm still afraid that I'll lose the information.

How many set should I do per round?
I am not clear. There are 3 rounds. This means I do one set for each round, which means a total of 3 sets once al 3 rounds are finished.
Or do I have to do 3 sets of everything. Meaning 3 sets * 3 rounds = 9 sets in total?

As we develop the Hultrix C++ SDK, we are creating proof of concepts for various features found in Qt6 to evaluate their feasibility and potential inclusion in our own toolkit.
This is test7.cpp, a study to determine what it would take to build a QML parser. As you can see, it didn't take much effort at all. Granted this is not full featured.

QML Parser:

2024.05.21 11:14 zodiijackyl Looking for advice on what to do next.

Before we begin, I apologize in advance if this is long and rambly. Just trying to organize my thoughts and get some input from people who may have had similar experiences and/or are willing to read through my meandering bullshit.
I am a 25 year old EI with two years of experience who is currently unemployed. I started working with a mid-sized consulting company once I got my Bachelor's degree, brought on as an hourly employee in the geotechnical department while a full-time Master's student. I got my Master's in geoenvironmental engineering back in May, stuck around the company until December. Decided to take a break after leaving as one final hurrah in honor of being done with school, and am now starting the job hunt again.
There were a few different reasons I left my previous company, but one of the big ones is that I'm mainly interested in environmental work, and despite management saying they'd transfer me to a more environmentally-focused position, it never came to fruition. I wanted to try out geotechnical work because I really liked the geotech classes in uni, but I absolutely despised the work I was doing in geotech; field work was ok, but geotechnical reporting is absolutely soul-crushing. All that being said, the company I worked for also did environmental work, and I've had some low-level interaction with the department; realistically, it seems like it was just the same shit as geotechnical but with a different coat of paint. Somewhat interesting field work, followed by hours of templatized report writing and scraping the bottom of the barrel for billable hours.
Basically, I don't like geotech, and I'm worried that environmental engineering is going to be a lot of the same shit I didn't like about geotech, just under a different name and with different terms. I originally wanted to do remediation, but a lot of people I've talked to who did remediation absolutely fucking despised it. I've been looking at different jobs and subsets of engineering, and I really think something along the lines of coastal engineering would be something I'd love; the Army Corps of Civil Engineering specifically has some amazing sounding job openings, full of shit like stream and marsh restoration, jetty and coastal structure design, etc., but I really don't want to get my PE working in government, as that goes against everything I've ever been told in terms of career development. The big problem is, there are no private coastal opportunities in my city (somewhat expected, as I'm about four hours from the coast...), and I'm not planning on moving until I'm done paying my student loans.
One of the things that appeals to me with coastal engineering is that, I assume just from being a specialized market, the work looks a lot more in line with the shit I got into engineering for in the first place; design, modeling, that kind of thing. I don't want to be a project manager, I want to do technical and design work. Additionally, I want to work with water resources; this is one of the entire reasons I got into civil engineering. With that in mind, I've been looking into some local positions that I feel have some transferable skills, water resources type jobs, and it seems like nearly all of them are either stormwater or wastewater oriented, neither of which I'm particularly interested in. This is where I'm having some trouble trying to figure out what to do next.
I guess one of the big questions would be, would a job like this even exist? As in, a water resources oriented job that doesn't pertain to stormwater or wastewater? I've used a dozen different variations of searches on Indeed using keywords like modeling, water resources, water quality, etc., and it just gives me search results for wastewater work. Some examples of what I'd love to do are the things I did in my groundwater resources engineering and surface water quality modeling classes; in groundwater resources engineering, my final project included modeling the groundwater table for a local area based on well data. It was a little bit ago, so I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but another student used my model in his project and did something pertaining to contaminant transport in the groundwater. In surface water quality modeling, we did a lot of Simulink programming to model a large local watershed area. Is this kind of shit unique to academia, or can you score a job like this in consulting? If so, what are some companies I should be keeping an eye out on for job openings?

2024.05.21 11:08 Wisetechwords27 How to add images to metafields in shopify

Adding images to Shopify metafields involves creating a metafield definition and then populating that metafield with the desired image URLs.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
Step 1: Create a Metafield Definition
  1. Navigate to Settings > Metafields.
  2. Select the part of your store where you want to add the metafield (e.g., Products, Variants, Collections, etc.).
  3. Click on 'Add definition.'
  4. Fill out the necessary information:
    • Name: Enter a name for your metafield (e.g., "Custom Image").
    • Namespace and key: Use a namespace and key that makes sense for your store (e.g., "custom_fields.image").
    • Type: Select "File" and then "Image" from the type dropdown menu.
  5. Save

Step 2: Add an Image to the Metafield

  1. Go to the part of your store where you created the metafield definition (e.g., a specific product page).
  2. Scroll down to the Metafields section.
  3. Find your newly created metafield.
  4. Click on the 'Select file' button or drag and drop the image you want to use.
  5. Save the changes on the product or page.

Step 3: Display the Metafield Image in Your Theme

To display the metafield image on your storefront, you'll need to edit your theme's code:
  1. Navigate to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme you are using and click 'Actions' > 'Edit code'.
  3. Locate the appropriate template file (e.g., product.liquid for product pages).
  4. Add the following Liquid code to display the metafield image:

{% if product.metafields.custom_fields.image %} Custom Image {% endif %}
Replace custom_fields and image with the namespace and key you used.

Example Scenario

Let's say you created a metafield for products to add a custom promotional image. Here's how you'd implement it:
  1. Create the metafield definition with the namespace custom_fields and key promo_image.
  2. Add an image to the metafield for a specific product.
  3. Edit the product.liquid file to include the following code where you want the image to appear:

{% if product.metafields.custom_fields.promo_image %} Promotional Image {% endif %}
This code checks if the metafield exists and then displays the image using Shopify's img_url filter to generate the appropriate image URL.
By following these steps, you should be able to add and display images using Shopify metafields effectively. If you encounter any specific issues or have further questions, feel free to ask!
