2024.04.30 22:44 HughyHugh The Adam Sandler Option-Select (and Counterplay)

For those unaware of what an option select in fighting games is, it's basically a series of inputs that "covers all options" by doing different actions in different contexts. Cine2nerdle has a good version of this in "killshot OSs" - a string of movies that can help you escape a 3x on an actor by knowing their frequent collaborators. There's a great Bruce Willis writeup on this subreddit for it.
Another actor pretty well known for having frequent collaborators is Adam Sandler. In fact, there's a series of three movies that can get you out of literally 80% of his filmography. Those movies are:
Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015)
Norm of the North (2016)
Okay, so it's not the wildest set of movies of all time, but it's definitely practical enough for someone to remember and use mid-game. Sandler serves as a producer on the Paul Blart movies, which, in turn, means his contributions are not counted for Cine2nerdle. Additionally, Movie 43 (2013) gets you out of another 5% of Sandler's 3xs, but of course, Movie 43 in-and-of-itself carries a lot of risk with it, so I'll still be writing about the movies only escapable by Movie 43, but I'll make sure to point out that Movie 43 works on them.
Now, here's how to counterplay your killshots accordingly. There are 11 films remaining that do *not* get saved by Paul Blart OR Norm of the North, and each one has specific ways in and out. Here are...

The Eleven Films Immune To The "Paul and Norm OS"

Shakes the Clown (1991): This movie has Robin Williams and Tom Kenny in it. Falls apart with a cast lifeline for that reason, but good to play on people who don't have one.
Coneheads (1993): Dan Aykroyd is probably the most recognizable name here, and thus, you'll similarly find this one pretty escapable with a cast. Parker Posey is in this one as well.
Mixed Nuts (1994): Another Parker Posey, along with Steve Martin, Madeline Kahn, and most critically, Liev Schreiber, which means this one is escapable with Movie 43.
Billy Madison (1995): Despite being an iconic Adam Sandler joint, this one is probably the best Adam Sandler killshot remaining. Using Bradley Whitford to Get Out is probably the cleanest approach out, though.
Punch-Drunk Love (2002): Paul Thomas Anderson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Emily Watson, all very workable with a cast even if you aren't already familiar with it.
Pauly Shore is Dead (2003): I mean, this one probably works if your opponent doesn't know who Pauly Shore is, which is surprisingly likely, actually... I guess you can go to the funny pinocchio movie from a few years back?
Spanglish (2004): It's Spanglish! This one has a Movie 43 link, but past that, it's pretty rock solid. Tea Leoni gives you Jurassic Park III to work with, but she hasn't actually acted in enough movies to have too robust of a catalogue.
Top Five (2014): Famously Chris Rock, this one is not particularly airtight, but Adam Sandler *does* cameo in it. Also, thanks to JB Smoove, it's Movie 43-able.
Men, Women, and Children (2014): Most famous for being Timothee Chalamet's Hollywood debut, this movie is pretty stacked past Adam Sandler - Jennifer Garner, Emma Thompson, Ansel Elgort, J.K. Simmons. Won't work as a killshot in the slightest if opponent has a cast left.
Uncut Gems (2019): obscure indie film nobodys ever heard of
Hustle (2022): Past Queen Latifah, this movie is pretty hard to work with. Unfortunately, if your opponent knows the premise of it, then they'll escape pretty easily; both Space Jams allow you out via Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson.

And that's it! Everything else is escapable via Paul Blart or Norm of the North! If anyone has a better movie that can cover more of these eleven than Movie 43 to make it cover even more, I'm all ears.

2024.04.30 17:51 ILikeMondayz All my film hot takes in one place

Here are just a few: M. Night Shyamalan hasn’t made a good film in over 20 years. Jon Watts Spider-Man movies are better than Sam Raimi's. Interstellar, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Blade Runner 2049 are overrated. Wes Anderson has jumped the shark.

2024.04.30 11:04 biscotti-blossom Nostalgia for daydreams

Due to social media trends over the last few years being steadfast and the natural feeling to be nostalgic over a song that was trendy during a certain time period (think of summer 2021 and the "adult swim" trend), I was wondering if anyone ever felt that nostalgia with their daydreams?
Like for instance, during summer 2022 I was fascinated with 80s supermodels and Wes Anderson films, so there's a collection of songs that I hear that bring me back to those hyperfixations and the daydreams I had with them (I listened to lots of Jack Stauber and 80s club music).

2024.04.30 06:12 IndieCurtis Americana Films

I am looking for Americana Films ranging in tone but adjacent to Raising Arizona and Three Billboards. I have seen all the films of Tarantino, PT Anderson, Martin Mcdonagh, and The Coen Bros, the latter being my favorite filmmakers. Wondering what recs ya’ll have for Americana Films, preferably set outside the big city. I am also a huge fan of Nic Cage, and I’ve seen and loved Red Rock West.

2024.04.28 23:49 KitchenElephant3291 Sex work and acting

Hey so Ik it’s been asked previously but if you’re still in sex work do you have the potential to still be in acting? I’m talking non commercial, maybe tv and indie film companies? I’m currently in college for film but am an SW and I’m wanting to be screenwriter but have been reading up in this group-I’m super inspired.
I’m no Pamela Anderson but ik there’s so many actresses who are known for sexual roles-Pam Grier, some Scary Movie franchise actresses.

Actors/Actresses Character list
Team to Make the Film
BTW you would need it to be like Oppenheimer A Big Production for a Epic Game like MGS for it to become a Epic Blockbuster Movie and this is all my opinion

2024.04.28 20:16 Alex-Chaser Fortnight, Emily Dickinson and The Dead Poets Society

Fortnight, Emily Dickinson and The Dead Poets Society
Throughout the lyrics and music video, Taylor seems to be comparing her relationship with the muse to Emily Dickinson’s relationship with Sue.
Two of the most well known images of Dickinson.
I was supposed to be sent away But they forgot to come and get me
Picks up where we left off with Hits Different following ‘I heard your key turn in the door down the hallway, is that your key in the door? Is it okay? Is it you? Or have they come to take me away?’
I was a functioning alcoholic 'Til nobody noticed my new aesthetic
https://preview.redd.it/9qs406s2e9xc1.png?width=940&format=png&auto=webp&s=bf93a6275feb35b396c07802e597aa8779393b10
In the Lover era, Taylor had an unexpected change from pastels to blacks, beginning with her Lover Live Lounge performance where she got choked up talking about unconditional love being loving someone even if they don’t love you back anymore. This coincided with the Master’s Heist becoming public.
Following that Folkmore was more explicit about her reliance on alcohol and allusions to cliff diving, framing them as a cry for help that didn’t work. In Is It Over Now? she quite explicitly says her ideation is about wanting her muse to come back with “Oh, Lord, I think about jumping off of very tall somethings, just to see you come running and say the one thing I've been wanting, but no”.
All of this to say I hope you're okay but you're the reason And no one here's to blame But what about your quiet treason?
Taylor seems to consider this breakup mostly due to circumstances outside of their control but seems to still have resentment that her muse didn’t choose to stay together even when their plans fell apart.
The lyrics could also be about Susan quietly starting to date Emily’s brother Austin while they were away attending school together. Emily’s longing love letters make it clear she wasn’t aware but there are no records of her reaction when she found out her brother and the love of her life were engaged.
And for a fortnight there we were

I think Fort Night is separated into two words on the opening title because it refers to the nights spent hiding out in a metaphorical fort.
  • ‘I’m laughing with my lover, makin’ forts under covers’ (Call It What You Want)
  • ‘I’ll build you a fort on some planet where they can all understand it’ (Down Bad)

Forever running to you Sometimes ask about the weather
Small talk that denotes emotional distance suggesting the longing she expresses throughout the song goes unspoken when they’re interacting in person.
Now you're in my backyard Turned into good neighbors
After Sue married Emily’s brother Austin, they moved to a house next door and Emily could walk through her backyard to get to Sue’s door.

Your wife waters flowers I want to kill her
In Clean Taylor says, ‘when the flowers we had grown together died of thirst’. So, Taylor seems to be saying that her muse is in a healthy relationship even though she resents their partner for taking her place.
All my mornings are Mondays Stuck in an endless February
Winter in America and it brings to mind Groundhog Day where the protagonist relived the same day over and over getting increasingly disillusioned. In Paper Rings Taylor said ‘I want your complications too; I want your dreary Mondays’.
And for a fortnight there, we were together Run into you sometimes, comment on my sweater
Again the kind of impersonal thing you’d say to an acquaintance not someone you’re in love with.
Now you're at the mailbox, turned into good neighbors
Emily sent most of her poems to Sue for her opinion and skill as an editor. Following her marriage to Austin a lot of their relationship played out through letters carried back and forth by servants.
My husband is cheating, I wanna kill him
Near the end of Emily’s life, Austin Dickinson began an affair and Sue seems to have confided in Emily about it. One of her last letter poems is believed to have been written in comfort about it.
Excerpt from \"Open Me Carefully: Emily Dickinson's intimate letters to Susan Huntington Dickinson\"
I took the miracle move on drug The effects were temporary
Likely jumping right into a new relationship. In the music video, the move on drug is a bottle of pills labelled “forget him.”
And I love you, it's ruining my life I love you, it's ruining my life I touched you for only a fortnight I touched you, but I touched you
Taylor's insistence that she touched her muse, that the relationship was real and happened brings to mind that historians still argue that Emily and Sue's relationship was never physical or romantic, in part because efforts were made to hide many romantic poems were written for Sue, even by Emily herself through what she called "bearded pronouns." But its hard to argue that Sue was the longest and most significant relationship in Emily's life. Unfortunately the same is true of many queer poets and figures in history.
Both Emily and Sappho had their work burned.

I've been calling ya but you won't pick up 'Nother fortnight lost in America Move to Florida, buy the car you want
Florida is where Taylor started the eras tour, so I think this is about choosing career over work. She’s used cars as a metaphor for the perks of celebrity in other songs.
  • ‘Never wanted love, just a fancy car’ (Cowboy Like Me)
  • ‘Now it’s big black cars and riviera views and your lover in the foyer doesn’t even know you’ (The Lucky One)
  • ‘‘Cause all the boys and their expensive cars with their Range Rovers and their Jaguars never took me quite where you do’ (King of My Heart)
But it won't start up 'til you touch, touch, touch me
But they know none of its worth anything without love.

As we know, Dr Anderson and Dr Overstreet are named for their characters in The Dead Poets Society.
The homoerotic relationship between Todd Anderson and main character Neil Perry has been well analysed since it came out. I recommend this if you're unfamiliar. Along with the frequent touches, furtive glances, intimate bonding moments and intense eye contact between the characters, the themes of the film lend themselves to a queer reading.
Particularly the struggle between the character’s individuality and the rigid traditionalism of the school and their parents. Their new teacher, John Keating encourages the opposite, throwing out the regular curriculum in favour of out of the box thinking. In one scene telling them:
https://i.redd.it/xwel7kojg9xc1.gif
If we apply that same logic to the movie, we find a lot of deeply queer subtext. They read Walt Whitman’s poetry, he’s widely considered to be bisexual. The specific poem is O Captain! My Captain! which is about Abraham Lincoln, who also has bi rumours. The first time we see Keating on screen, and continuing throughout the movie he’s whistling Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Tchaikovsky was gay.
I have no doubt the subtext is intentional because the Dead Poets Society makes great use of foreshadowing throughout the film. On rewatching in the lead up to TTPD’s release I noticed the bell tolls when Todd and Neil first meet and shake hands, suggesting their relationship was always going to end sadly.
Taylor’s clear reference to the film seems to me like confirmation that the queer subtext she includes in her music is just as intentional.

2024.04.28 02:07 Pnnsnndlltnn Young directors getting a stacked cast for their debut feature?

Does this happen anymore? My mind goes to 2 obvious '90s examples: Paul Thomas Anderson's first film starring Philip Baker Hall, Gwenyth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly; and Quentin Tarantino's first feature starring Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, Chris Penn, etc.
I know a few of these guys are more famous retrospectively than at the time, but still. Is this phenomenon a thing of the past? Any other examples come to mind?

👮‍♂️ The Devil Went Down to Georgia
Hallie Lieberman // The Atavist Magazine
There were men who said they’d narrowly escaped the Handcuff Man, and rumors that some of his victims hadn’t survived. But there were also people who thought that he was nothing more than an urban legend. Jordan’s assault would bring the truth to light: Not only did the Handcuff Man exist, but there were people in Atlanta who knew his name, including members of the police force. He hadn’t been caught because, it seemed, no one was trying in earnest to catch him.
👩‍🦳 Julia Louis-Dreyfus Thinks Youth Is Overrated
Jancee Dunn // The New York Times
I’m really enjoying my 60s, but I would say my 50s. And by the way, you know how much I loved it? I got breast cancer in my 50s and I still loved it. I just generally felt more confident about who I was as a human being.
💥 The Children Who Lost Limbs in Gaza
Eliza Griswold // The New Yorker
Gazal was wounded on November 10th, when, as her family fled Gaza City’s Al-Shifa hospital, shrapnel pierced her left calf. To stop the bleeding, a doctor, who had no access to antiseptic or anesthesia, heated the blade of a kitchen knife and cauterized the wound. Within days, the gash ran with pus and began to smell.
🎙️ Andrew Huberman’s Mechanisms of Control
Kerry Howley // New York Magazine
Huberman sells a dream of control down to the cellular level. But something has gone wrong. In the midst of immense fame, a chasm has opened between the podcaster preaching dopaminergic restraint and a man, with newfound wealth, with access to a world unseen by most professors. The problem with a man always working on himself is that he may also be working on you.
🏀 Meet NC State's Jannah Eissa, the ACC's first hijab-wearing basketball player
Lindsay Gibbs // Power Plays
“If I was less than anyone else, I wouldn't be on this team. If I was less than anyone else, I would just not be playing basketball on this level,” she said. “And if anyone thinks that I’m less, then they're the ones that are less. That's it.”
🎧 Inside Yo Gotti’s $100 Million Music Empire (🔒 paywall link)
Jabari Young // Forbes
Inspired by one of his mentors, billionaire hip-hop mogul Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Gotti began taking business classes at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management in December with a focus on corporate valuation. “I may want to buy a company or acquire another company,” says Gotti, who never finished college. “So I’m making sure I’m supertight—and understand the language and the verbiage myself other than listening” to financial experts.
🎲 How a bankrupt bettor became the bookie at the center of an MLB scandal (🔒 paywall link)
Gus Garcia-Roberts, Albert Samaha // The Washington Post
On Wednesday, Bowyer, 48, was thrust into the global spotlight amid a bizarre and explosive news story enveloping one of the best known, highest paid — and until this week, most scandal-free — figures in sports, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani.
🖋️ Maria Popova's vivid life in the margins
Brian Braiker // Brooklyn Magazine
We live in uncertain times. The craving for certainty is so dominant and so overwhelming that we lose so much of the nuance and mystery and uncertainty that are the wellspring of wonder in life. And I think fundamentally we all crave a life of wonder. What else is there? In love, in beauty, and all those things, there’s this undertone of wonder that is what makes them satisfying.
💡 Hal Malchow Is Going to Die on Thursday. He Has One Last Message for Democrats.
Sasha Issenberg // Politico
After his mother’s untimely death, in 1990, Malchow was intent on never letting himself endure the same thing. If he showed symptoms for Alzheimer’s, Malchow resolved at the time, he would take his life before he became too diminished — and became a burden to those around him.
⚖️ At four, I was kidnapped and sex-trafficked for years. Now I fight for the powerless – and win every case
Annie Kelly // The Guardian
In the moments after his kidnapping, Salazar-Hobson remembers sitting in the back of the car with his small legs sticking out in front of him, looking at the new shoes his kidnappers had bought for him a few months before. “I remember riding in that car with John and Sarah Hobson not saying a word to me and I just knew how terrible it was going to be,” he says.
🪖 The journey of war veteran Rich Fierro, a ‘hero’ of the Club Q shooting (🔒 paywall link)
Dan Zak // The Washington Post
Combat vets forged deep bonds in harsh environments, and they returned to their families in a disorienting peace that could be dogged by anger, depression, paranoia, survivor’s guilt and thoughts of suicide. Some had a hard time determining when they were safe and when they weren’t. Family members had become strangers, and strangers became potential adversaries.
🇬🇧 The Mayor of London Enters the Bullshit Cinematic Universe
Peter Guest // WIRED
Social media algorithms drive the madness. When mainstream media and politicians start using the same terminology as the conspiracy groups, it can drive a flywheel of attention. It also helps to have a unifying figure who brings together multiple conspiracy constituencies. Which is how Sadiq Khan—liberal, left-wing, Muslim—got sucked into the vortex.
🎥 How Radu Jude Made the Defining Movie of the TikTok Era
Edward Frumkin // Interview Magazine
Because, at the same time that TikTok is taking your data and whatever, it’s really a kind of vernacular cinema. It’s really striking sometimes and really, really powerful and really, really creative and inspiring in many ways. Not everything, and not always, of course.
🤖 In 40 years as a founder-CEO, Michael Dell turned his dorm-room PC company into a tech giant. Can he cash in on the AI boom? (🔒 paywall link)
Michal Lev-Ram // Fortune
“It feels every bit as big as previous waves, but probably bigger,” he says, pondering the question, and then adds, “You know, maybe quite a bit bigger.” He takes another brief pause, reconsiders his own words, and delivers a most inconclusive conclusion: “I don’t know for sure. Nobody knows.”
📝 Author Hanif Abdurraqib on Writing About LeBron, Loving Ohio, and the Seductive Power of Nike Commercials
Tres Dean // GQ
That meant coming to terms with the fact that I am not going to live long enough to be forgiven by everyone I've ever wronged. That is something to me that frightens me. The fact that forgiveness is not this limitless pool that we can reach into and pull from whenever we want to, it frightens me.
🥤 Meet the Influencer Who “Reverses” Lupus—With Smoothies
Julia Métraux // Mother Jones
On their own, some of Goldner’s smoothies look pretty good, like her “daily drinker” of raw kale, spinach, chard, frozen bananas, mangoes, and flax seeds. Some of those ingredients can benefit the immune system, but no analysis of peer-reviewed studies exists to show that vegan smoothies are as helpful in managing symptoms as, for instance, hydroxychloroquine.
📱 ‘It’s Causing Them to Drop Out of Life’: How Phones Warped Gen Z
Marc Novicoff // Politico
Video games gave boys huge amounts of shallow social connection and caused them to feel lonelier. Social media gave girls huge amounts of shallow and competitive social connection and it made them feel lonelier. So I don’t think much was gained from the switch from real life to virtual. And I think there’d be minimal cost to reducing screen use in middle school by 90 percent.
🎬 Sydney Sweeney on ‘Immaculate,’ a Rom-Com Reunion With Glen Powell and the ‘Weird’ Way People Talk About Her Body: ‘They Believe I’ve Signed My Life Away’
Daniel D'Addario // Variety
People feel connected and free to be able to speak about me in whatever way they want, because they believe that I’ve signed my life away. That I’m not on a human level anymore, because I’m an actor. That these characters are for everybody else, but then me as Sydney is not for me anymore.
🌑 The Darkness That Blew My Mind
Tim Neville // Outside
Deep down I hoped that the dark might help rekindle a sense of purpose left bruised and bloodied by the pandemic. I figured I could treat it the way I treat travel to some of the difficult places my work has taken me. I would be curious and open, come what may. Doing that rarely leads to disappointment.
💰 The Confessions of Inigo Philbrick, Art Fraudster Extraordinaire
Mark Seal // Vanity Fair
“I always drank too much,” he concedes in one of our exchanges, “but would always stagger away with a couple of deals done…. I spent money on clothes, but there’s no unshod art dealer, and private planes were a great setting for closing deals.”

Notes: Honorable mention All-Pac-12

STRENGTHS: Rare football awareness … impressive pocket mobility and feel for negotiating the rush to evade defenders in confined spaces … displays the unique ability to quickly set his base and find his balance from any platform … passes come buzzing out of his ear with high RPMs, but he can also adjust his arm angles with ease … able to create torque on his throws while flat-footed … delivers with both touch and accuracy, regardless if he is making a layered throw or drive throw … uses the entire field and doesn’t lean on specific zones … comfortable delivering the ball before receivers enter their break … eyes are always up and stay in pass-first mode when scrambling … at his best with receivers who know how to get open on scramble drills (his teammates call it “Baller mode”) … didn’t throw an interception on third or fourth down at USC (199 pass attempts) … reads pressures well pre-snap and knows how to locate his hot reads … dynamic with zone-read and RPO game … well-built athlete who runs with toughness and balance as a ball carrier (grew up playing running back and linebacker and never lost that mentality with the ball in his hands) … averaged 10.1 yards per carry over his career and led USC in rushing touchdowns in each of the past two seasons … emotional competitor and exhibits “field general” leadership qualities on tape … highly productive career, accounting for an FBS-best 120 touchdowns over the last three seasons; only two other players reached triple digits over that span (Sam Hartman, 116; Bo Nix, 105) … finished his career 23-10 as a starter (18-8 at USC and 5-2 at Oklahoma) — the Trojans’ defense gave up at least 34 points in all eight losses (43.0 points per game allowed).
WEAKNESSES: Holds the ball loose from his body, and ball security is a major concern (in the pocket and as a ball carrier) — 16 of his 33 career fumbles came in 2023 … guilty of bypassing singles and doubles as he searches for home runs and asks too much of his offensive line (240 of his drop backs the last two seasons lasted 4-plus seconds) … can get stuck on reads too long, and eyes need to be more efficient and manipulative … pressure will speed up his process and lead to negative results (see 2023 Notre Dame tape) … partially responsible for being sacked 84 times over the last three years, including 35 times in 2023 … hastily abandons his passing mechanics … occasionally leaves clean pockets in favor of creation mode … NFL scouts say it will be important for Caleb to “leave no doubt” during the interview process that he is all-in on football (NFL scout: “He wants to be Jay-Z of the NFL and a true entrepreneur, and that’s great as long as he’s winning on the field.”).
SUMMARY: A two-year starter at USC, Williams was a playmaking quarterback in head coach Lincoln Riley’s RPO, spread scheme with Air Raid concepts (Y-Cross, mesh, etc.) and heavy play action (38.5 percent in 2023). One of the most decorated and productive players in USC’s rich football history, he set single-season school records for passing yards and touchdowns in 2022 and accounted for more plays of 20-plus yards (134) and 50-plus yards (20) than any other college player over the last two seasons. With his base and body balance, Williams is always in a “ready-to-throw” position to deliver throws anywhere on the field with velocity and accuracy. What makes him special is his poise and mobility to masterfully buy time and create second-chance plays, although he tends to be overconfident in his ability to find answers among the chaos. He led the FBS in touchdowns (120) and “wow” plays over the last three years, but he also led the country in fumbles (33) over that same span and needs to take better care of the football.
Overall, Williams needs to be more consistent working on-schedule from the pocket, but you live with the hiccups because the positives are special with his dynamic passing skills and instinctive ability to create. Though stylistically he is like a really impressive karaoke-style version of Patrick Mahomes, he is truly unique as a playmaker.

Notes: Consensus All-American; First Team All-Pac-12; Led FBS in rec. yds; 83-yd PR TD; 14-yd rush TD; Team Captain

STRENGTHS: Good-sized athlete with desirable measurables … coordinated pass catcher and snatches cleanly (very low drop rate the past two seasons) … plays exceptionally well through contact … uses his length to make full-extension grabs and his frame to box out and win contested balls … tracks the deep ball like Ken Griffey Jr. patrolled centerfield … route running showcases his light feet and body twitch … gliding speed and toggles his ac celebration to stack corners or create late separation … competes with physicality, before and after the catch … multi-faceted and can be a vertical threat but also a red-zone weapon … his track training and conditioning is clear on the football field … just three career punt returns, but he returned one 83 yards for a touchdown in 2023 … smart, respected voice in the locker room and voted a team captain by his teammates for his final season … will play through pain — suffered a broken rib and punctured lung recovering an onside kick (September 2023) but didn’t miss any time … he looked up all of Washington’s receiving records after he enrolled and met several of his lofty goals, including breaking Reggie Williams’ single-season record for receiving yards
WEAKNESSES: Needs to continue expanding his route tree … average suddenness in short areas and change of direction … can occasionally make the first man miss, but his elusiveness is mediocre by NFL standards … handled press well when he saw it but jam technique needs continued development … fumbled twice in 2023 … perimeter run blocking is very up and down and needs more consistency … just 60 career snaps on special-teams coverages
SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Washington, Odunze primarily lined up outside in former offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s spread scheme (75 percent wide, 25 percent slot over his career). His production improved each season, including an All-America 2023 campaign with an FBS-best 1,640 receiving yards and an elite first down/touchdown rate (80.4 percent). Odunze is field fast with fluid route running and above-average tracking/adjustment skills to secure catches in high-trafficked areas or create explosive plays downfield (32 catches of 20-plus yards in 2023, second most in the FBS). His body control at the catch point has always been a strength, but he took major strides in 2023 with his ability to play through contact and use focused concentration to win 50 -50 balls.
Overall, Odunze is an above average height/weight/speed athlete with the pass-catching instincts and competitive focus to be a playmaking NFL receiver. He projects as a true X receiver and has the skill level to elevate his quarterback’s play (stylistically similar to Drake London).

Rd 3 – 75 Overall: Kiran Amegadjie, OT – Nerd

RAS – N/A
Highlights – 1, 2
Dane’s Grade: 3rd Round (87 Overall)
Rank of 2024 OTs: 12
Consensus Big Board Ranking: 78
Daniel Jeremiah: Outside of his top 150
A&N CB: 72
2023 Season
Notes: Third Team All-American; First Team All-Ivy; Missed final six games (left quad)

STRENGTHS: Outstanding size with elite length and a body/strength profile that can be molded … clean, efficient movements at the snap, with basketball feet and accurate landmark depth … able to naturally sink his hips and play with bend … keeps his hands/reach in front of him to maintain distance with pass rushers … locks on in the run game and drives his feet … runs the chute well from a three-point stance … effective second-level blocker to locate, fit and finish … intelligent, tough and driven (OL coach Stefon Wheeler: “Just because you’re at Yale doesn’t mean you have the same acumen for football, but Kiran is absolutely sharp. And he wants to be great.”) … sought out and trained with NFL offensive-line legend Willie Anderson during the 2023 offseason … started double-digit games at both tackle (14) and guard (10) over his three seasons in college.
WEAKNESSES: Technical approach has improved but remains a work in progress … still learning how/when to adjust his set points based on the type of rusher he is facing … needs to keep his guard up versus slow-developing rush moves that lull him into settling his feet … not a polished blocker in terms of angles … plays physical in the run game but needs to be meaner and impose his will … suffered a partially torn left quad during practice (October 2023) and required season-ending surgery, which also sidelined him for most of the pre-draft process … inexperienced— played only two seasons of high school football and three seasons of college football (and all of his college reps came versus FCS competition).
SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Yale, Amegadjie lined up at left tackle the last two seasons in Yale’s multiple run scheme. After not playing football until midway through high school, he put himself on the NFL radar with his ascending play in the Ivy League, although his season-ending injury in 2023 was disappointing — he missed half of his final season and NFL scouts were unable to see him face better competition at the Senior Bowl. From a size and athletic standpoint, Amegadjie pops on film, because of his rare length, light feet and smooth body control to mirror pass rushers or create momentum as a run blocker. Though he does a great job repositioning his hands and feet, his inexperience is also apparent when it comes to timing and adjustment fundamentals.
Overall, Amegadjie is a raw prospect who needs technical and strength work before he sees live NFL reps, but his physical ingredients and competitive drive are the foundational elements that pro coaches want to develop. He projects as a backup left tackle as a rookie who has all the tools to gradually develop into an NFL starter.

12/1 56 12 8 2 1 0
Notes: Kansas; First Team All-Big 12; Led team in FFs, sacks and TFL; Big 12 Newcomer of the Year

STRENGTHS: Long-limbed, rangy athlete with room to pack on more muscle … uses elongated strides to quickly cover ground as a pass rusher or out in space on perimeter plays … sprints downhill to threaten the corner but can also work back inside with spins or lateral slides … can plant and dip the corner to flatten to the quarterback … plays with force in his hands, including a stutter-bull and long-arm stab to put blockers on their heels … effective club-swim move and started to introduce better deception with his counters, including jabs, hesitation and ghost moves … takes contain responsibilities seriously … bends knees and naturally unwinds from blocks to find his way to the football … works hard to not lose sight of the football … length gives him a large tackling radius, helping him make shoestring stops … has pursuit speed to track down ball carriers away from the line of scrimmage … strong production in his final college season.
WEAKNESSES: Reminders of his inexperience appear all over his tape … doesn’t have ideal body mass (especially in his lower half) on his high-cut, lanky frame and needs to continue developing his play strength … upfield gate shows hints of straight-line stiffness … struggles to unleash his length versus blockers who close space quickly and don’t give him a runway … needs to dial back the wasted movements mid-rush and be more efficient … pops upright in his spin moves … undisciplined tackler once he reaches the backfield and needs to cut down on the misses (also had several roughing the passer and targeting flags on his tape) … can be uprooted by double teams and needs to better drop his anchor versus downhill attacks … inexperienced dropping into space … only one season of production and consistent on-field reps.
SUMMARY: A sub package player at Kansas, Booker lined up wide of the offensive tackle (two- and three point stances) in defensive coordinator Brian Borland’s versatile front. After he saw only 23 defensive snaps in his two seasons at Minnesota, Booker transferred to Lawrence for the 2023 season and led the team in sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles, despite coming off the bench (averaged 40.2 snaps per game). Although he is still figuring out how and when to access his bag of tricks, Booker instinctively uses his rangy frame to create various leverage points and surprise blockers with his forceful hands. He is lean in his lower half, but he plays well versus the run to stack, stay balanced through contact and track the football.
Overall, Booker is lacking in body mass and overall experience (just 505 career college snaps), but he is an ascending player with the ability to maximize his athletic traits and body length/force with proper biomechanics. With his tools and instincts, he projects as a rotational player in Year 1 with the potential to become an impact starter.
