2024.05.28 20:15 NotGeneric35 Nerve Dysfunction

I was wondering if anyone here has had success in working with a neurologist to confirm vagus nerve or phrenic nerve impingement.
I've had a slew of health issues the past year (you can read some of my post history if you're curious) despite being highly conditioned and lean. The gastroparesis came on hard abruptly two years ago. Initially, I wasted away, but then went on a mostly liquid diet for a year and implemented a plethora of other strategies and started regaining lost mass. Now I fluctuate in terms of being able to take in some soft food, but have to basically stand 16 hours a day, do 1-2 hours of cardio, etc. just to be able to process it.
Anyway, the reason I suspect some nerve damage or impingement is due to the following: 1) I had a neck injury prior to the initial onset of symptoms and continue to have neck issues intermittently. 2) I initially also had 90 percent ineffective swallows on manometry. 3) I also have noted that certain gym lifts/positions make the gastroparesis worse, even quasi attempting to control for intensity, catecholamine response, etc. 4) I've had abnormal heart rhythms and bizarre breathing issues associated with it ever since, despite being having no abnormalities on echo, CT, or MRI with regard to healungs. When I breathe out, it often feels like my lungs are spasming and I get this repeated (burst) sequence of minor "coughs" (almost like a pronounced sigh), at times making it very hard to even complete a sentence. This is often better in the morning, with minimal food in my stomach, and temporarily is mitigated in the hours after extensive cardio before eating or drinking much. 5) Finally, and most bizarre, I've become much more jumpy -- my startle response has become extremely exaggerated. Doctors suspect some immunological or neurological issues (suspicion largely related to other health issues) but so far nothing has been verified, other than low red and white blood cell count as well as CD3/4 proteins, high CRP and sed rate, 22 cm liver with some scarring (despite no history of diabetes, drug use, drinking, or ever being remotely overweight), minor scattered scarring in lungs, and stomach wall thickening.
Truthfully, I am a healthcare provider myself and had the unfortunate experience of -- like many of you -- working with providers who really don't have the expertise, motivation, or incentive. My goal this summer is to work with University of Chicago and Rush doctors and rule out more elusive autoimmune and neurological conditions (myasthenia gravis), but also any impingement. Of course, it's clear that vagus nerve damage can often happen after gastroparesis as well (both mechanical and chemical properties related to gastroparesis and gerd can damage vagus nerve), making this tricky. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

2024.05.28 20:11 TwoDollarBananaD My brother is wasting his life

My (22M) brother (32M) is having a really bad time, since he ended his career (Industrial Engineer) when he was 25, he has been taking some bad decisions thought his lifetime.
When he graduated, he got the best grade of his generations, he was an honorable student, in one of the most prestigios Universities of Mexico (it was pretty expensive for my parents to maintain it)
He went to Prague to study a diploma, the he came back to Mexico, and we all thought that he was going to have a great jobā€¦ or at least start some projects or doing something.
Well he took a year off from everything, just to wait a friend who was going to start a new car repairestoration studio.
Well, a year pass, and yeah, they started to work together, he worked there for like 4 years, he was doing good, he bought a great car, he was growing as a person (he was still living with my parents and me).
Then, he wanted to stop working, because he hate to have a boss, so he wanted to start his own design businessā€¦
Well, he quit, he started to spend his money, he also sell his car, and time passā€¦
Now, he lives with my parent (my parents divorced in the process, I know it can be hard to swallow, but he was already 28 years old, not a kid who can not process a divorce) and all the day the only thing he does is smoking weed and listening to music.
I do not fucking know how in some years, he had a pretty great future ahead, and now he earn NO MONEY, he do not want to work, and he just smoke weed all day.
I do not know how to help him, we have a good relationship, I have been talking about depression for a year with him, he only tells meā€¦ ā€œI am not going to be like this forever, I just want to liveā€
But now he is so skinny, he does not eat, and he does not have any dreamā€¦
Does anybody can give me some advice??
Edit 1: I am not demonizing weed, but there is far difference between smoking weed and being productive, and smoking weed and just being lost all day. I smoke, but there I know when and where, it should not be consume your life like this.

2024.05.28 20:06 SimicBiomancer21 Uniter of Legends, a card to help Blue-Eyes, Dark Magician, and Red-Eyes, all in one.

Uniter of Legends, a card to help Blue-Eyes, Dark Magician, and Red-Eyes, all in one.
First up- Artist Credit, the Golden Phoenix Spellcaster Knight by The-NRG. Secondly, here's the text in case it's hard to read.
https://preview.redd.it/8fr0g0oui73d1.png?width=420&format=png&auto=webp&s=97b12e6bba070336af433491a7f99a8a297d7a3a
(This card is always treated as a "Red-Eyes", "Blue-Eyes", and "Dark Magician" card.)
If you control a "Red-Eyes", "Blue-Eyes", or "Dark Magician" monster, or a monster that lists "Dark Magician" in its text, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You may add up to one of the following from your deck to your hand. ā€¢ A DARK Spellcaster or Dragon monster. ā€¢ A LIGHT Spellcaster or Dragon monster. ā€¢ A "Legendary Dragon" Spell Card. You can declare a level from 4 to 8: This card's level becomes the declared level until end of turn. You can tribute this card, and reveal a Fusion Monster in your Extra Deck: Add one Trap Card mentioned in that Fusion Monster's text from your deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Uniter of Legends" once per turn.
This card is simple in it's goal. Help the 3 kings of Duel Monsters. So my idea was simple- make a universal searcher! Here's my thought process on this.
  1. Obviously, like many things nowadays, it needs it's own special summon clause. Infuriatingly, I had to add the "Monster that lists "Dark Magician" in it's text" thing because most of the Dark Magician support aren't Dark Magician monsters.
  2. I wasn't sure how to phrase "A dark or light spellcaster or dragon monster", so I separated it by attribute. This of course grabs the archetypal cards, but Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes get a *little* more help in this regard because of Timaeus the United Dragon, the Palladium Oracles, and the "Eyes of Blue" cards. Was tempted to add Warrior to both categories too, maaaainly to grab Kaibaman and Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight, but decided not to.
  3. Of course, I wanted them to have access to the Legendary Dragons. So Eye of Timaeus, Fang of Critias, and Claw of Hermos.
  4. Ritual Spell searching because they all have random Ritual Monsters.
  5. Level 1 tuner, with low attack. Here to help Kaiba into his synchros (which he doesn't NEED, but it's nice), and provide him a Dark monster to tribute for Crush Card Virus if he wants to use it.
  6. The level modulation makes it great for any of the Rituals or Xyz, and can also expand synchro options if desired. Plus, it can help Dark Magician get into the Knight of Dragon Magic.
  7. The "reveal extra deck fusion to grab a trap listed on it" is here SOLELY for Kaiba to get access to his fusions from Fang of Critias.
Feel free to try and break this card, or tear me a new one because it's actually horrible and I don't know it.

2024.05.28 20:05 Desperate_Tie6352 12D Shield

We will go over some spiritual homework that is suggested to strengthen your aura and to build your body to repel manipulation or obfuscation, which is confusion. The 12th Dimensional Light Shield is an excellent way to build the integrity of your lightbody while repelling negative or dense energies from sticking to your energy body (aura).
So our core support practice is you wake up in the morning and your first step is to make a daily declaration of your intention to resolve the authority problem between the ego personality and God. And that can be simply stated in these words or words of your own that feel emotionally charged and connected to you such as:
My declaration of intention to serve my source. I commit to serve my highest power fully completely and totally.
I am God. I am Sovereign. I am Free.
I am Free.
How to build your personal 12D Shield:
And then you work with shielding your body, your personal energy field. Most of us know in becoming introduced to our body of work here at Energetic Synthesis, our core practice is the 12th dimensional shield. The 12th dimensional shield is a practice that fortifies and strengthens our aura by reconnecting us to our 12th dimensional blue print or Kryst or krystal body. As we shield ourselves, we learn energetic boundaries of our aura. And then we can learn to boundary test our aura to discordant energies that are uninvited.
The shield also helps us to re-imprint our body to physical and energy sustainability and health and this achieved by bringing balance to the body. It also allows communication to be restored with our spiritual forces and star family. It also empowers our body, ourselves to re-awaken the wisdom of our true origins which may mean we start to decode light language or start to understand more about the hidden history of our planet and of our race.
So as we work with the 12D shield, we use the six-pointed star, which is two triangles of merkabah that is representative of our merkabah body. Many of us are seasoned with this exercise but for many of us that are new and joining us now, let us go through the process of the 12D shield.
Coming in to the center of your brain, visualize a nice silver six-pointed star, the Star of David in the center of the brain. This geometry means unity, unity of polarity coming in to oneness with God. Allow that six- pointed star to be in the inside of your vision in the center of your brain. Feeling that unity move that geometric pattern of the six-pointed star down your chakra column, the center line of your body, and see it release between your legs.
You are going to send that all way to the core of the earth. And as you see your merkabah star, your unity connected to the core of the earth, see that humongous merkabah star in the center of our planet with all of your love, with all of your intentions sending unity of our planet, sending unity to every being on this planet.
As you see a thick feed line of platinum energy start to gather around you from this connection. Taking inhaled breaths you may feel in imprint of a cool menthol kind energy as the platinum shield feels kind of cool like mentholatum or eucalyptus. Memorize this imprint for it is: I am God, I am Sovereign, I am Free. It is the true krystal origin of your connection with God force. As you embody this force, you become the promise that embodies it for all of humanity.
With each inhale, as you feel your body start to connect with that frequency, again connect to that six-pointed star in the center of the earth and draw it up with your breath. As you see it returning back to you, have it stop in a position about 12 inches below your feet. This area beneath you is where the core mathematical signature of krystal body as it connects into your aura exists.
See your six-pointed star 12 inches below your feet and as you do you will see a platform, almost a circular horizontal platform emerge. This platform is your shield, it is your protector, it is that which builds the bottom of your spiritual house. It is your foundation to your spiritual house. So build that foundation. As you feel the firmness and the support building the foundation of your spiritual house in a circular platform, see your six-pointed star in the center of that platform. It is your core, it is your pillar, it is your strength and it belongs to you and no one else. This is your covenant and protection with God always.
As you feel your foundation, now start to sense and see that your 12D shield, a platinum energy emits off your foundation and feel it building a circular pillar of platinum sparked white light around you covering your body, every cell and pore of your energy system emitting and connected to crystalline light of God. As it protects you, as it hold you, as it supports you, it is your foundation and it is your security.
See it building over your legs and hips as it reaches your waist and your shoulders. Start to see it building above your head. You are going to intend to strengthen this pillar and build this pillar about 3 or 4 feet above your head. And this is the first dimensions to build your pillar in order to protect the personal aura body. If you bring your aura in and you want to protect the boundaries of your energy field - you can use this technique so that you can learn to test discordant energies and allow only that which is invited to impact your energy field. You are learning to boundary test. You are learning to create a boundary with your personal energy field before you can start to share this field with the planet and with others which will naturally happen as you become more stabilized and balanced in your own energy field. This process is called ā€œcommanding your personal spaceā€.
Allow the shield to build and see yourself fully encompassed in your personal platinum pillar from 12 inches or so beneath your feet to 3 and a half to 4 feet above your head, your entire aura, your entire body saturated and protected in this strong pillar of platinum light.
And now we are going to build the same foundation on the top as you did on the bottom as you again in your inner vision - connect to the six-pointed star in the center of the foundation of your spiritual house. Letā€™s start to bring that six pointed star up through the center column of your body. Again the six pointed star represents the unity of polarities, unity of the inner masculine/feminine, it is all represented in this merkabah star symbol as it we allow it to move up the bodyā€™s center column and see it release at the top of the crown chakra. Send that six-pointed star to the very top of your pillar of light and let it linger there for a moment about 3 to 4 feet above your body, right in the center above your head. See that thick white light building strength in your core. That is your monadic staff or your central vertical channel. Itā€™s the structure where your chakras are built upon.
If you cannot see this, just intend it for that is enough. In your vision, as you intend to put the six-pointed star 3 and half or 4 feet above your head see it start to build. It will start in its own movement of spinning to start to build yet another circular foundation above your head. You are protected below and you are protected above. As you create another lid to seal yourself inside your personal pillar of light , this is the roof of your house, the roof of your spiritual body.
We are going to see that ā€œlidā€ as a circular platform just like you did below on your foundation. Create a circular roof that is like your lid on top of your shield. And as you feel that roof firmly being built these are the spiritual energies of your inner god force. Seal that seal in to the top of your platinum pillar of light. When this happens it almost feels like a hermetic seal as your are fully suspended in this protective light, fully shielded in your spiritual house and from this place you can use discernment, you can boundary test in all modalities and all decision and in all things that cross your path. If something becomes unclear or confused, allow it to be tested against your shield. Is it of your resonance? Is it not of your resonance? If it is not, do not fear it, let it go and move on your personal path. You are not missing anything. You didnā€™t make a bad decision. There is no mistake, only that which resonates with your personal heart-based God force and that which does not.
So you again feel yourself suspended in the protective spiritual house and pillar of Godā€™s light. Program it through I am God, I am Sovereign, I am Free and allow nothing that is not aligned with those frequencies to enter your field, to enter your shield.
Finally focus on the six-pointed star, your Unity Merkaba symbol at the center of your personal pillar 3 to 4 feet above your head. You are now intending to ground multi-dimensionally by sending your six-pointed star out into deep space and into the connection with the Heart of the Universe, the heart of God itself. See your Merkabah Star flow away from the top of your shield through a platinum feed line all the way into the core of the Universe and grounding yourself into the center of the Cosmic Heart of the Universe.
And now from the place of your shield, you are going to invite your higher self, God self and your Ascension Guides, those which are in alignment to your sovereign freedom and to your highest evolution and heroic probability as we establish the connection with your beloveds, with your spiritual family. You know you are never alone. You know you are fully supported.
As you thank your Ascension guides, as you thank God, and allow yourself to be filled with peace, harmony, balance, and integration. Know that you are on the path of Ascension and on a need to know basis. And as you trust, you will receive all that you need in the moment. Learn to trust and listen to your inner spirit. Release all your worries, all of your doubt. Cast your entire burden to God now. In deep love and gratitude complete your meditation and seal your communication and intention.

2024.05.28 20:02 A_m_B_o6367 Which universities in the US would admit a BE Mech student for a masters in EECS

My_qualifications: BE Mechanical Engineering cgpa: 7.3
I graduated in 2024 BE mechanical. I was hoping to apply to universities in the US that would accept students from a different branch into their MS in EECS programs.
I have no experience in the field and im currently taking courses related to electronics. I was hoping to find out any universities that would take students like me. I know that top universities are way out of reach for me so any suggestions are welcome.
I am also conflicted between preparing for GATE and going through the entire masters application process. I am also happy to furnish any other details that i have missed.
Thank you in advance.

2024.05.28 19:59 Kali_404 How I conquered my Celiac disease

I will pre-empt that I am only one celiac, and I am not a Dr or anything like that. But I wanted to share how I went from constantly sick and confused, to healthy and normal after so many years. I am hoping that by sharing this, I can help some other sufferers escape their daily pains.
  1. The hardest but most necessary part for success. Stop everything. It sounds like a lot, and it is. The problem with our bodies is it does not give us a clear daily report on what is affecting us. So most of the time we encounter an issue and wonder what out of several things could have caused it. It is impossible to solve your system like that. The best thing I did was live a few months with the barest basics I could manage. Rice, water, fruit, no makeup, body or hair products. I used certified gluten free soap and shampoo, and only ate what I knew sat comfortably. I ignored all other temptations and kept my social life minimal as possible, just enjoying home and resting. I know to take time out of our lives usually means dropping the ball on other things, but doing those things is so much easier when you are healthy. It is worth finding the time to give yourself as much of a break as possible. Once I felt I was clear of any gluten symptoms and had given myself enough time to heal, I began to slowly reintroduce items one at a time, very slowly. The first year sucked the most, because it was the year I had the least on the menu, but as you try and feel safe with more items, you get a better idea of what sits well in your system and what doesn't. By taking this time to pay attention to how foods affect you, you will get a much better understanding of what can help and what can hinder you. Now when I am contaminated there is rarely a guessing game of what got me.
  2. I got an additional allergen test and talked with the doctor about my system. I did a 3rd party allergen test that found I was sensitive to some types of fish, nuts and spices, that were adding to the internal inflammation I was struggling with. My doctor did a test that found out my digestion moves slower than normal and I have high acid content. With this information, I cut out the other foods and noticed a large decrease in my inflammation issues, as well as the medication I got to help control my stomach acid. I was also able to think about my meals and make better decisions based on what could create too much acidity and to find more alkaline foods that could help during inflammation times. This helped me better understand the signals my body would tell me, and prevent additional digestive issues from muddying the waters of my recovery and understanding.
  3. Symptom and food journal. I recorded every bowel movement and meal, as well as what symptoms I would feel and how long they would last. I set a regular alarm on my phone and had a journalling app, so I could journal from anywhere regularly. I made sticky notes for myself to remind myself too. I would forget some days, but even recording what I could remember would help. After doing this for a month, I could see some patterns that I didn't recognize before and I was able to share it with my doctor. This helped him understand what I was going through more clearly, and he was able to do a lot more to help me with that information that before.
  4. Research and Advocate - Doctors usually only know celiac disease in a passing sense, they read a paragraph in their university textbooks or have surface level knowledge. Many do not have active experience and can even harbor biases without realizing. This is where the symptom journal can help show what you are suffering daily and makes it harder for them to blow you off. Take the time to learn everything you can about the disease and how it can affect you now and in your older years so you can know what to look out for. My doctor mishandled my care for a long time, because I was too young to understand how to advocate for myself. As I got older, I was able to do my own research and I would send my doctor emails with what I found. This is when he admitted he was unaware of the additional science, and began to do his own research. He began to be much less resistant to helping me and understood I was a patient that was serious about their health. It is worth it to learn how to document and communicate your needs.
  5. Therapy. Having food become a danger messes with the head, and it is understandable. I became food avoidant and fell below 90 lbs at one point, I didn't know what meals would add to the hurt, nothing made me feel better at the time. I would rather starve all day than attempt anything. I ended up becoming fearful of leaving my home even. Not everyone gets this scared, it depends how rough the symptoms are. My symptoms were always intense, so I became fearful of triggering them. Over time though, I worked with my therapist and we treated it like rungs on a ladder. I took my fears one step at a time, challenging them and proving to myself that I could be safe, that I could escape the cycle of perpetual pain. With his motivation and me holding myself responsible, I was able to become more confident and assured.
This process took me many years, it was not something I could accomplish in a short burst, but a steady accumulation of my efforts over time. It took a lot of focus, and I had to drop the ball on other things in my life to do it. But I am not sick everyday anymore, I don't feel that constant pain I would carry around and my mind feels clear, my heart energetic. It's been a hard road to understand and master my celiac, I look back at the beginning like a soldier reflects on war. But there is a chance to feel normal again, it takes some swimming, but it is worth the effort. I promise you that.

2024.05.28 19:46 Worried_Relation_523 Six Sigma/Lean Six Sigma Certificate Advice

I am looking to progress through the ladder in the field of supply chain, and based on higher positions on Indeed.com (director of operations more specifically) the two by far most popular certificates are the PMP and the six sigma/lean six sigma certificates. I just obtained the PMP last week, so now I'm setting my sights on the six sigma/lean six sigma certificate (hopefully the black belt); however, there seem to be an infinite number of options for obtaining this certificate. I need some general advice on where I should be looking to get my certificate from. I currently work at a well-known tech company, so it would be possible to get my certificate through my company, but I feel as though the requirements are not standardized from company to company. Thus, I was leaning more toward a standardized application/test process like offered by the top Institutions like ASQ, Villanova, and IASSC (top 3 according to a video I watched). There is also the possibility of obtaining the certificate from almost any University by simply taking some classes. I asked one of my mentors regarding this question and all he said was to stay away from ASQ, as this certificate would actually hinder my career development due to its extreme nature. He said this would only be a good certificate if you aimed to be a quality manager or something of the sort. Any additional opinions or advice would be most welcome.

2024.05.28 19:27 gloomy__pangolin To Build a Starship Part 10

Their trip to the Phobos shipyards was more of the same, with the exception that Captain Oliver had Sundancers AI begin lessons. At first they were resistant to beginning school, but when Sunny explained that the lessons would be on starship manufacturing, assembly and operations, they became more enthusiastic.
In truth, Sunny was clever enough to select a base subject that required them to learn many others, such as mathematics, sciences, and engineering - while wrapped in the fascinating practical necessities of starships. So instead of boredom while learning differential calculus, physics or chemistry, they had an immediate use for their new found knowledge applicable to a very exciting field. Sunny had taken the time to download the two scholastic transcripts before they left their home station. Lan was stronger in mathematics, having completed her first course in calculus and scoring well on testing. Joe was weaker in mathematics, but had done very well in engineering and orbital mechanics for his year.
Sunny's extensive resources made her a good teacher, but it also helped that, being an AI, she was an immortal being with infinite patience, with substantial information on how the human mind worked. Keeping her captain in top shape was her prime directive after all, and she was designed to solve problems. Educating two teenagers would take up less than one tenth of one percent of her neural processing power.
After their arrival at the shipyard, Captain Oliver left the ship alone, as children in the massive industrial station would be very out of place. He was still trying to maintain some appearance of normal operations. Left alone with with the ship, they studied what they could see of the shipyards operations in the view port, and on the screens on the bridge. A large inter system liner was attached to a huge umbilical arm that was both an access tunnel, carrying personnel, materials and equipment into and out of it, and an anchor point, securing the massive vessel to the shipyards structure. The tiny suited figures crawling over the hull resembled crabs crawling over a whale. There was a massive gaping hole in the hull, where it looked like the reactor and major engine components were being removed. Frequent bright sparks of plasma welding and cutting illuminated parts of the scene in sharp black and white relief. As they watched, a massive part of the hull was freed from the ship, being guided away from the construction site by a large powerful arm. The arm released the section and it drifted towards what looked like a floating junkyard. Several of the crabs lifted off from the hulk, and attached themselves to the part, guiding it into a positing and then returning to the work at hand. The shipyards solution to storage of massive objects in space was relatively simple, they just set things off out of they way, made sure their velocity exactly matched the shipyard, and let them float until needed. Only occasional maintenance by one of the work-bots was needed to keep things tidy.
Eventually though, even this unique vista couldn't keep their attention any more. Joe finally left the bridge, and wandered about.
In response to Sunny's question, he said,"I just can't wait anymore, I need something to do." He rejected Sunny's suggestion to resume their class on orbital mechanics. After a few moments his face lit up with an idea.
"Hey!" he said, "How about training in EVA suits and airlock operations? That could be useful!" Sunny considered this, and then acquiesced. Joe and Lan had both been trained since they could walk on how to don the emergency escape suits that were a ubiquitous part of life for families in space. But the EESs were designed to sustain life in a vacuum for up to 72 hours. They were just armored bags with a helmet, mittens, boots, life support and a simple reaction motor with limited burn time. They weren't the elegant working suits that allowed a near acrobatic freedom of motion needed to accomplish complex tasks in space.
Sunny directed Joe to one of the ships airlocks. The airlock itself was the usual chamber with a door that opened to space, a second door that opened to the ships interior, and enough room for several people or reasonably large items to pass through in either direction. Inside the interior door, was another chamber, this one with lockers and suits. The noticed that their names were on two of the lockers. They each opened their respective locker and found hanging inside EVA suits of the latest manufacture, These suits were light weight, using complex carbon nano tube fabric that provided the required fifteen pounds per square inch for their human wearers, while still being very flexible. There was a ring around each neck that fitted a helmet, which provided the user interface for communications, access to water, and of course, air. The helmet was a marvel of engineering, almost unbreakable, the wearer could set any part of it from opaque to transparent as needed using the wrist pad. By turning their head slightly a small tube provided access to water, and audio was picked up and played through tiny transducers. It was very light, and resembled a slightly oval soap bubble. A transponder built into the suit allowed Sunny to track it until the power supplies ran down. The small back-pack carried power, atmosphere regeneration, and water supply. It fit neatly between the shoulder blades and extended downwards to about mid back. It was smooth and permanently part of the suit.
"Please direct your attention to the screen," Sunny said, and one of the wall panels lit up, a suiting up vid played, with Sunny providing commentary and advice on donning and using the suit, it's capabilities, and procedures for exiting and entering the ship. There was some momentary awkwardness when the part about waste handling came up, as the fitment for those functions was specific to the sex of the wearer, and the instructions were detailed and left nothing to the imagination, When venturing out into the most hostile environment known to mankind, information on how to survive trumped modesty or awkward teenager reactions.
When the lesson completed, Sunny directed them to don their suits. They quickly pulled off their ships jumpers, and climbed in to their suits. The compression method of retaining pressure on the wearer meant that any garment that could bunch up or form a wrinkle would become a painful hot spot in a short time, that would become unbearable, and eventually could also cause damage to the wearer so typically their light undergarments were all that was worn while using the suits.
At first the suits appeared almost comically too large, but this was a design feature to enable them to be put on with a minimum of effort. They turned and looked at each other, and with a nod, they pressed the activation panel on their wrist pad. Each suit immediately contracted around their bodies, resembling a second skin. there was a moments discomfort as the suits over contracted, the internal computer testing the fit and suit integrity, then the suits relaxed to their normal skin-tight compression.
At Sunny's direction they moved about the room, getting the feel of wearing the suits. In truth it was like wearing very tight fitting workout clothes. They felt pressure everywhere, but had no trouble moving about.
"Very Good" Sunny observed. "Let's put on the helmets now, and run some final checks." They each collected their helmet from where they floated, and attached a small tether between the helmet and suit, put it over their head, and twisted the base of the helmet into the collar on the suit. Early attempts at making the helmet integral to the suit had met mixed results. It seems the ability to remove the helmet while still wearing the suit in an atmosphere was more important to the end users than the slight reduction in reliability in the simple electro mechanical joint.
They touched their wrist pads and their suits went through the final checks, pressure and power were both confirmed at full levels. They were ready to go.
"I will reduce the airlock pressure now." Sunny said. She had run her own diagnostics on the suits, her link to the suits computers giving her authority over their operation. As the pressure fell, so did the feeling of compression. The suits provided the fifteen pounds per square inch the humans needed, but when worn in atmosphere the wearer felt that pressure, once a in a vacuum, the lack of atmospheric pressure reduced the compressive feeling of the suits. They became hardly noticeable.
They moved around in the airlock under vacuum. After a few minutes, Joe asked, "So Can we go outside?"
"Standby" Sunny replied. She checked the area around herself to make sure nothing would be a threat to the two neophyte astronauts, and checked her control linkage to the suits reaction motors. Worst case, she would simply assume control and stuff them back into the airlock bodily. "All set" she said after a few seconds, "Please face each other and hold hands."
This position would provide the most support to Joe and Lan as they exited the ship. The first experience in exposed space could be, dramatic. The exterior door opened at about half it's normal speed. As it slid away, it exposed a black rectangular void. Sunny dimmed the airlock internal lights, and the stars appeared. Countless stars became visible. They pushed gently outwards towards the opening and slowly floated out of the ship. Before them stretched the universe, with nothing between it and them but a few millimeters of fabric and transparent polymer. They were roughly oriented with the long axis of the ship. Below them hung the Red Planet, Mars, in all it's dusty sand blown glory. They could see details, sand storms, valleys and mountains. To their left, or the ships bow, the shipyards massive structure, cranes, arms, ships, and the huge central rotating cylinder floated, sparkling in reflected light, and the working lights of the active complex.
So taken in by the view, they would have floated beyond safe limits, so Sunny gave their suit thrusters a short command, and they stopped about two meters away from the airlock door. Being born and raised in space, they had experience in zero g movements, They released one pair of hands, and rotated themselves so they could face outwards away from the ship.
"Wow" Joe said.
"Yeah," Lan Replied, "this is... amazing."
They spoke in hushed voices, as people who enter a church do, they felt the awe of the experience. Sunny gave them some time to just float there, holding hands, and enjoy the expanse of the universe that had opened in front of them. She had to admit that even her artificial consciousness appreciated the grandeur of space, although with a degree of precision and accuracy no human mind was capable of. While a human mind would look at a star system and see beauty in the gas giants, or nebula, Sunny found beauty in the mathematical perfection of a cluster of moons orbiting a planet, the precision of the frequency of pulsars, down to a hundred decimal places. How the frequency of the cosmic background radiation, the very echo's of the act of the creation of the universe created harmonics with all the mass she could sense. She could feel joy at riding a gravity wave and boosting her drive efficiency, but not the excitement of traveling on the wave. She could tell you the wavelength of the color of a star, but not that the particular shade appealed to her. She found beauty in her own way, but it was not a human way.
Eventually, she said "OK, lets try some basic maneuvering shall we? Joe, you start, just get to the forward edge of the airlock, and place your feet on the exterior of the hull."
Joe slowly released Lans hand, and, pressing a few commands, enabled manual control of his thrusters. He could now control his motion by moving a few fingers on each hand, sensors in the gloves and the suits onboard computer would translate those motions into thruster commands. Joe could control speed and vertical with his left hand, and rotation in both axis with his right hand. He gingerly twitched the fingers of his right hand, until he was facing where he wanted to go, he over corrected, and had to rotate back. Once aligned he flexed his left pointer finger, and felt his suit push him in the small of his back, the push subsided. He had a small velocity towards the spot he wanted to land. He flexed his knees and 'landed' by absorbing as much of the momentum as he could, otherwise he'd rebound off the ship. A tiny pulse of the thrusters was all that was needed to stop the tendency to float away. He 'stood' there, his feet lightly touching the hull, knees bent. As long as he didn't move to aggressively, or push off with his feet, he could stay there. He triggered the thrusters and turned to look back at Lan.
"Very good Joe!" Sunny said. "Now, stay there until Lan joins you. Always stay together." This last admonishment was not needed, but bore repeating. As scuba divers of old knew, so did people in space, the buddy system was one of the best safety protocols available.
Lan triggered her thrusters, she nailed her rotation to face Joe, but came in a little to fast. She couldn't absorb all the momentum and rebounded slightly off the hull. It looked like the worlds slowest high jump. She grunted slightly, annoyed. Then triggered her thrusters again, and settled gently next to Joe.
"Well done Lan!" Sunny was glad they seemed to be taking to the controls and systems. "Lets try some more exercises now, and really see what you can do."
Sunny ran them through a series of exercises that involved them maneuvering in ways that would make a gravity bound acrobat jealous. Even in zero g, they had begun to sweat a bit, as they were not as relaxed as more experienced crewmen would be, they over worked themselves, where experience would let them use momentum and the thrusters together to minimize their effort they clenched muscle in futile attempts to shift their mass or momentum.
"Time for a short break" Sunny finally said. "While you rest lest review emergency procedures. On the right side of your pack, you can reach back and find a small tube protruding. Grasp that and pull it out."
They did so, finding that the tube would extend as far as they could easily reach.
"Now, just above where the tube comes out of the pack there is a small port. Plug the tube into each others port. This enables two users to share one support pack, in case one is damaged. While using the buddy system, you must hold hands, as if you pull away and disconnect the tube, you'll have to reconnect quickly, as the person with the failed pack will only have the air remaining in their suit, which is about 3 minutes worth."
They listened and nodded, more serious than their years implied they could be. Both had seen accidents in space, and knew the seriousness behind such instruction. The price of this knowledge had been paid in blood.
"If you have to maneuver using buddy air, the disabled pack should be held in front of and about waist high on the person with the operational pack. That will keep the center of gravity close enough to allow essential maneuvers. Be careful not to pick up too much speed, as you'll have twice the mass and the thrusters will need more time to change your velocity. Don't rush, under these circumstances return immediately to the nearest airlock."
"In the event of communications failure, you can still talk through sound conduction via your helmet to another helmet, of possibly a solid surface. Try this now. Touch your helmets together gently, and speak without triggering your coms systems."
They faced each other and brought their heads together slowly, in a slow motion pantomime of a gentle kiss. Their helmets touched, and they held each other to keep them together.
"umm, Hi" Joe said. Lan heard his voice, only slightly muffled, as if he was speaking to her through a door.
"Hi back" she said, "this is pretty amazing! Did you know we could do this?"
"I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned we had space suits aboard while we were in the shop. I didn't think either the Captain or Sunny would actually let us. It is so cool!"
Lan nodded in agreement, she was just as surprised at this turn of events, but delighted. Even living in space, few people actually venture Outside.
As they held their helmets in contact, Joe noticed their faces were very close together, he saw she had tiny freckles across her nose, and flecks of gold in her brown eyes. He looked into those eyes, until the silence grew a little too long, and was finally ended by Sunny resuming radio coms with them. Later on, Joe's thoughts would linger on how looking into two golden flecked brown eyes had made him feel so much, more even than the vastness of the entire universe stretched out before him had done.
Sunny had finished her instructions, she had assumed the spike in heart rates had been due to the momentary isolation. Their voice profiles didn't indicate stress however. Her vast psyche came to a conclusion, Biology, she though, bemused.
"You two take a few moments to look around, and then we'll end this exercise. I believe the captain has concluded his business, and we'll be loading out our cargo soon."
As they enjoyed the remaining few minutes of their first space walk, Lan looked back towards the drive end of the ship. It faced away from everything, into deep space, and the view was spectacular. She looked again, there seemed to be something shiny moving around near that end of the ship. Being over a kilometer away, she had to look hard, but yes, there was something. Maybe one of the crab like working suits the shipyard personnel used. She couldn't be sure. It might have just been light glinting off of something harmless.
"Sunny, " Lan said, "Is there something going on at near the engineering section? I thought I saw something moving over there, but I can't be sure".
Joe turned and looked as well. "I don't see anything," he said.
In fact Sunny had detected what appeared to be one of the shipyards worksuits, operating near the engineering section. It was suspicious, as the suit had disabled it's lights and transponder, which was illegal and highly dangerous, as if anything had happened the occupant would be lost in space, unless they could restart the transponder. It did however provide a high degree of stealth, which explains why it was able to get within a few meters of the ship before she noticed it. Had Sunny not had her two charges outside the ship, where she was monitoring the environment she might have missed it. Maybe, she liked to think not much got past her, and she was usually right. She enabled camera's and captured images of the work suit, confirming that's what it was. She noticed that the external registration markings had been altered, meaning it would be very difficult to find the operator now.
To Lan she said, "Yes, I see something there as well. I'll look into it. Meanwhile you two return to the airlock and get changed, we're boarding cargo and technical crew in about an hour. Best you're ready."
Joe and Lan entered the airlock and the door slid shut, once again shutting out the vast universe from the interior.
Sunny, the greatest multi-tasker ever, monitored and assisted Joe and Lan exiting their suits and the airlock, at the same time, turning her available sensors to a small spot on the exterior of her hull, adjacent to one of the ventral thrust nozzles. Her quantum circuits flickered though entangled states as she considered the multiple meanings of someone in a stealth posture attaching something to the outside of her hull without her knowledge. Even her artificial sense of self felt indignation at that violation, however she realized there was more here than meets the eye, much more. She sent a very discrete encrypted signal to Captain Oliver, one that only he would hear and understand.
They would have some interesting things to discuss soon.

From the Walltown Community Association
The Walltown Community Association asks people across Durham to attend a virtual rezoning meeting TOMORROW, Wednesday, May 29th, from 6pm to 7pm. It is hosted by Northwood Investors, the company that owns Northgate Mall. ~You need to register to attend online, but you can also call in (instructions below)~The Walltown Community Association asks people across Durham to attend a virtual rezoning meeting TOMORROW, Wednesday, May 29th, from 6pm to 7pm. It is hosted by Northwood Investors, the company that owns Northgate Mall. ~You need to register to attend online, but you can also call in (instructions below)~.
Help us tell Northwood Investors that if they want to rezone Northgate Mall, they need to participate in the City's official Small Area Planning process.
Since 2018, Walltown has led efforts to create a community-centered vision for Northgate Mall (see our report "Building a Place for All People"). We have engaged over 600 residents through surveys, focus groups, presentations, and a 2021 press conference.
In February 2023, we designed an alternative plan focused on community needs, not just scientific labs. Our priorities for redevelopment include:
The City of Durhamā€™s Small Area Planning process for Northgate Mall is the best path to an equitable redevelopment that achieves these priorities and benefits everyone involved (learn more about Small Area Plans).

Background

Four years ago, Northwood Investors started buying Northgate Mall. By 2019, they owned the whole property except the old Macy's building (which is owned by Duke University Health System).
In 2021, Northwood proposed a plan with housing, retail, and office space. However, it did not meet community expectations. They said they would negotiate community benefits when requesting a zoning change to build taller buildings (Phase Two).
In 2022, Northwood proposed a new plan focused on scientific research labs and offices. Again, it did not consider the communityā€™s needs.
In February 2024, thanks to Walltownā€™s efforts, the City of Durham agreed to develop a Small Area Plan for Northgate Mall and the surrounding area. Walltown believes this planning process allows all stakeholders (the City, residents, Northwood, and Duke) to design and develop the site together.

What's Happening Now?

Northwood's new plan includes scientific labs, retail, and housing. While an improvement, it still does not meet our neighborhood and city's needs. On Wednesday, Northwood is hosting a required community meeting for their rezoning application.
According to their letter, "The developer is considering submitting an application to request a rezoning to Commercial General with a development plan (CG(D)) to allow for Research and Development uses in addition to office, retail, residential, and amenity/park space."

Attend the Virtual Meeting

The meeting is THIS Wednesday, May 29th, 6:00PM - 7:00PM Eastern Time.
To attend online:
To attend by phone:
We encourage joining online so you can use interactive features like Chat and Q&A.
Per Northwoodā€™s letter, Contact Nil Ghosh at 919-590-0362 or [nghosh@morningstarlawgroup.com](mailto:nghosh@morningstarlawgroup.com) if you have any questions.
/this is not my content, I am just passing it on //one of the most hilarious things I ever saw was when Nil Ghosh had his family members sign up to testify before the Durham City Council for a rezoning request ///what he had them say was that they "didn't want Durham to miss out on all the good things Cary has" - what a moron.

Developing a game on Linux with no budget and (mostly) FOSS tools.
I've been developing Year Unknown for ~3 years at this point. While I originally started development on Windows with Unity, I've since switched entirely to Linux, and moved development to Godot. I'm a solo developer and have a budget of pretty much $0 (other than store fees), so I use FOSS tools almost exclusively (Godot, Blender, GIMP, Inkscape, etc.). The only exception is Reaper, which is my DAW of choice.
Trailer for Year Unknown
The game itself is a narrative-driven exploration game set in the very far future, where humanity has found a way to make the universe last forever. The gameā€™s story covers a lot of existential issues that come from the premise, revealed through two characters you can talk to through terminals.
I know thereā€™s other developers who have done the same, but I thought Iā€™d share my experience. Feel free to ask any questions about my process or setup, I'd love to help anyone who's trying to do something similar! (And if the game is interesting to you, a wishlist would be very appreciated!)

2024.05.28 19:01 s_broda PGWP to PR

Hi, I (27) am an American citizen who graduated from a four year university in Montreal. My PGWP is set to expire December 25th, 2025. I am currently working a full time job in Toronto, and have about 1.5 years of full time experience built up in marketing.
I have not taken an English test, but believe the scores should be good as it is my native language. Also, I recently became engaged to a Canadian Citizen. I am hoping to gather PR as I am working a dream job and have really built a life here. When calculating my score, it looks like it may be 549.
I was wanting to know: - How far in advance I should apply for PR? - Is it worth doing a PR route, or should I look to get a work permit with my company? - Are there any recommendations for boosting my score, or during the application process?
Thank you!

2024.05.28 18:48 cartesianpixels Eligibility to Study a Master in Germany with a Licence Professionnelle and a Master Degree from Morocco

Hi everyone,
I am a Moroccan student and I have a question regarding the eligibility to pursue a Masterā€™s degree in Germany. I hold a Licence Professionnelle (Professional bachelor 180 ECTS) from my home country, which I completed after three years of study. Additionally, I have also completed a Master's degree in Morocco.
I recently learned that a Licence Professionnelle might be considered as vocational training in some cases. However, in Morocco, this degree qualifies me to pursue an MS in countries like France.
I am curious to know if anyone here has had a similar educational background and successfully applied to a Masterā€™s program in Germany. Specifically, I am seeking advice from students who have gone through the application process or are currently studying in Germany.
I apologize if this question isn't entirely relevant to this subreddit, but I believe your experiences could be very helpful for me and others in a similar situation.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,
TLDR : Moroccan student with a Licence Professionnelle and a Master's degree from Morocco, wondering if qualifications eligible for a Master's program in Germany. Concerned that Licence Professionnelle might be seen as vocational training. Seeking advice from students with similar backgrounds who have applied to or are studying in Germany. Any insights on recognition and application process are appreciated. Thanks!

2024.05.28 18:46 boomerbudz This is most likely why GLP-1 drugs are so expensive

Got this article from Marketwatch.com. Makes me sick how much money is made off of us. This refers to Wegovy and Ozempic but I'm sure it refers to tirzepatide as well.
"Novo Nordisk has blamed middlemen in the U.S. healthcare system for the high prices of its top-selling weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Ozempic, following the launch of an investigation into the drugs led by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.
In a letter to the Senator for Vermont, the Danish pharmaceutical giant said it only retains 60% of the list price on both drugs, with the rest paid out to middlemen.
Novo Nordiskā€™s letter follows the launch of an investigation into the high list prices on the two drugs, by the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee, of which Sanders is chair.
In a letter to Sanders on Friday, Novo Nordisk NOVO.B, -0.43%, which is now Europeā€™s most valuable company, pointed to middlemen in the complex U.S. healthcare system but said it expects the net price of both Wegovy and Ozempic to fall under current market conditions.
The Danish giant also said it would be willing to work with U.S. lawmakers to tackle ā€œsystemic issuesā€ in Americaā€™s healthcare system in order to increase access to its medicines.
In a letter in April announcing the launch of the HELP committeeā€™s investigation into Novo Nordisk, Sanders previously called on the company to provide a detailed breakdown of the costs it has incurred in the process of developing and producing its weight-loss drugs.
The senatorā€™s April letter notes that while Novo Nordisk charges $1,349 a month for Wegovy in the U.S., the drug costs just $140 a month in Germany and $92 a month in the U.K.
Novo Nordiskā€™s Ozempic costs $969 a month in the U.S. compared to just $155 a month in Canada and $59 a month in Germany, the April letter says.
Sandersā€™ letter also pointed to research from Yale University showing GLP-1 drugs could be made for as little as $5 a month.
In response, Novo Nordisk said the prices quoted in the study fail to account for the billions the company spent in research and development costs, as the Danish giant said it spent $10 billion developing its GLP-1 drugs.
Ozempic is expected to generate $18 billion in revenue for Novo Nordisk this year while Wegovy is expected to make another $9 billion for the company, with a large slice of those sales expected to be made in the U.S. where 70 million adults are obese.
Earlier this month, the Senateā€™s HELP committee published a report stating Novo Nordiskā€™s ā€œoutrageouslyā€ high prices threaten to ā€œbankrupt American health careā€ and lead to a ā€œmassive spike in prescription drug spendingā€ that would push up insurance premiums nationwide.
The report said it would cost $411 billion a year to give Wegovy to just half of all Americans with obesity ā€“ compared to the $406 billion a year Americans currently spend on all other prescription drugs.
In May, Sanders also wrote an op-ed for Danish newspaper Politiken alleging that Novo Nordisk had failed to live up to its moral ideals, by charging such high prices for its GLP-1 agonists.
Novo Nordisk confirmed it had sent a letter to Sanders but declined to comment. Sandersā€™ office was approached by MarketWatch for comment.
Novo Nordisk has seen its valuation explode due to the success of its GLP-1 agonist weight loss drugs, in a meteoric rise that has transformed it into Europeā€™s most valuable company. "

2024.05.28 18:31 sugar_on_sunshine I secretly don't want to be friends with my best friend anymore, what do I do?

This might be quite long but pls read to the end: I've been friends with this girl for nearly 5 years- we met at the beginning of university and are graduating this summer as law grads. We were so close, inseparable almost. I loved her, so much. I didn't have any other friend that I was close to like I was with her. She was everything, my best friend, my twin, the only person I built my uni life around. Until recently. So basically, we had a little altercation where she believed that I intentionally tried to embarrass her because I apologized for MY wrongdoing to a bunch of girls she had issues with (she told me not to apologize to them but my conscience was strong and I did- every single one of the girls are cool with me now). I tried to explain to my bsf that I was in no way trying to 'embarrass' her but she only screamed at me to get out. This was on a Thursday. She didn't speak to me for a full week. MIND YOU, that week happened to be our finals week and we always prepared together- I'm not strong enough to read on my own. That week, we also lost a mutual friend of ours. I had to process everything on my own. I tried to reach out to her a couple of times, begging her to let us talk about the whole situation but she either aired my messages or simply texted me hurtful words and emojis. This has never happened before, I was in a state of confusion and fear- losing the one girl who had stood with me all my uni life, admittedly the only person I was close to. I had panic attacks for the first time, I was crying everyday, over our dead friend and also over losing my best friend. I went through the whole exam period on my own, reading and crying. I had to go to the hospital several times for an ECG and other tests because I couldn't breathe well and my chest was so tight. While all these were going on, she was going about her life, hanging out with her boyfriend and her other friends. I was alone, I became a shadow of myself. I still tried to text her and she didn't reply, her only coherent reply being "you still don't see where you're wrong, lol" Anyway, after our final exams, I went to her dorm room and insisted we talk. We finally did and it was clear that we both couldn't reach a middle ground- her insisting that I tried to embarrass her and me wondering why she left me in the dark for a whole whole week and why she couldn't just come to talk to me about how and why she felt that way. She knew that I'm big on communication and I also never invalidate how she feels about any situation. Anyway, I left her dorm knowing the issue couldn't be resolved, ready to say goodbye to my nearly 5 year friendship. A few hours later, she came to my room and hugged me without saying anything. She said she was sorry and felt bad about the whole thing. We hugged and are back together as best friends But if I'm being honest, I don't feel the same about her anymore. This whole situation sounds childish, I know. But I feel things very deeply and I invest so much in my friendships. I can't look at her the same way anymore. The fact that she could feel so comfortable not talking to me, her best friend for years, for a week was very telling. We're currently on summer break before our grad in July- but I want to talk to her and let her know how I truly feel about the whole situation and how I don't think I want to be best friends with her anymore. She broke my heart and my trust and made me realize I needed to make more friends and not be emotionally attached to anyone If you read to the end, thank you so much. Your advice will be very much appreciated :)

2024.05.28 18:30 DuckQuackGo Maybe a little bit off topic but, ever since I have tried to become more mindful, I forgot how to live naturally

Hi, I'm a christian 28 years old man from the Balkans where I grew up in a small town where I didn't have the mental healthiest childhood when I look back. When I was little I tried to play outside but I didn't have any friends my age, and I didn't like the other children from my neighbors. But I had a few family friends much older than me who were PC gamers and who introduced me to video games in the 2000s. So I grew up, watching TV and playing video games until I had to go to the university. In school I was an average introverted "class clown" goofing around with a little group of friends. At that time I thought we were friends but we were just "school friends". Outside of school I did nothing to seek a relationship with them, we just had our fun at school and come home to play video games. My parents always had to scold me to do my homework and study, because otherwise I would just play video games. The thing is I felt good having fun at school and playing video games at home but I regret not socializing to build relationships.
University was the most stressful period of my life where I had to take everything seriously. I graduated in 2019 when I was already working as a Software Development Engineer for a German automotive company when the pandemic sent us all to work from home.
I took it as a blessing but I begin (sorry for my English) to work overtime to prove I was working, which led to burnout and addictions especially in the weekends. Fortunately I got a better job a few years ago, where I tried to set some boundaries for a good work life balance (no more work after 5 PM). Things were seeming to improve and I tried to return to video games after work just to feel like "in my good old days".
But everything changed when my younger sister asked me a mind shattering question: "What are you doing with your life from now on? What memories will you have on your death bed?" Now I want to mention that my father had tried for years to make me quit video games, but his argument was always for the sake of school, which made me oppose more resistance. But my sister's question, I don't know how to describe the "explosion" she created in my mind. Like when you tell a computer to divide by 0 and nothing makes sense anymore. Some kind of existential crisis I think. This threw me back in depression and addictions until a year ago when I discovered self improvement while doom scrolling on YouTube.
I stumbled upon some self improvement channels which motivated me to start the last year optimistically and I did start optimistically and motivated but I was not satisfied with the self improvement content I was consuming. I wanted something like a "Theory of everything" for self improvement, something to explain an describe human life with all it's areas and sub-areas, and sub-sub-areas and so on. Almost like diving into the core questions of philosophy.
Last year I literally brain stormed my mind with all kinds of questions and contradictory ideas, just like shaking a jar with water and sand, until I had fallen again into desperation, depression, addiction and anxiety at the end of the last year.
But I think I managed to list the first levels or layers of areas and sub areas as following: - Faith - Mindfulness - Feelings / Emotions - Mind / Learning - Survival skills - Housework skills (ex: cooking, gardening) - General knowledge (things we learn in school) - Other manual skills which we unfortunately do not learn in school - Learning about other careers - White collars - Blue collars - Pink collars - Financial Education - Arts, Hobbies and Games - Life Goals; Then what? What goals am I supposed to have here and why? I don't feel anything anymore except a void of nothingness. - Traveling and Socializing (my worst area) - Where should I go and why? - What activity should I do wherever I go and why? - With whom should I go and how, when I don't have any friends I can relate to? - What should I talk about when I don't have any small talk to say, especially with this constant confusion in my mind.
I'm tired of taking walks in my town just for the sake of it only to see the same streets and have the same thoughts and feelings over and over again to the point I became sick of my own mind and feelings. Everywhere I go I have this constant and confusing anxiety which sounds like this:
"Ok, I'm here doing X, then what? Why I'm doing X? How I'm doing X? Is this what I'm supposed to do? How I'm supposed to do it? Something feels wrong, are we sure we are not missing something? What are we missing? Why do I feel this way? Why can't I live natural? Is this OCD? We better check the internet. No, I'm in the middle of the park with my family, I should just be present, enjoy the nature and socialize with the few friends we have. Ok, how do we do that? What I'm supposed to do with my mind? I should say something but what? Nothing comes up in my mind. Oh, no they are talking and I'm not even paying attention. They look so happy, living in the moment, going on with the flow, why can't we do that anymore, how I was living naturally before and what happened? Hey I like this song, I feel like dancing! Oh, so this is how it feels like, but am I doing it righ? Is this is how I'm supposed to feel? Maybe yeah, maybe we should just let ourselves be carried on by the flow. What flow? It's gone. I don't feel it anymore. Oh, no I broke it again. Look at that girl, she is so smart and beautiful living in the moment and I look so old, fat, and inside my head I feel so insane caught in this hurricane of madness! Who on Earth would like to come closer to me to know me as a person and find out how insane I am? ... etc."
Sorry, I let myself get carried away but I have 2 more areas to mention: - Health: I'm fat. Nothing more to say here. - Work: It's ironic and tragic when people envy me for programming from home, when for me it feels like I'm stuck in a time loop, cursed to relieve the same day everyday, where nothing makes sense anymore, and I fear falling back in addictions which makes me obsessively - compulsively fall back in procrastination and addiction, thus validating my broken mind which says "See, I told you this will happen, just like yesterday, so will be tomorrow!" That's why I hate my mind and I become sick of self improvement content which tells me to be mindful. This is where mindfulness led me. I'm the happiest when I sleep and dream because I'm not lucid and I dream naturally and I really feel happy in my dreams. That's why I regret all this mindfulness thing. And I'm sick of "tips and tricks" like "when you feel X pretend or imagine Y" it's not working anymore and it's only giving my mind things to obsess over.
Sometimes when I'm alone with my thoughts, I even get waves of anxiety which makes me fear that I might really lose my mind and go insane, and it frustrates me because I have no explanation, I am completely aware that all of this is completely irrational...so irrational in fact that my mind goes so far to ask "So what is rational then?" See what I mean? It's like in computer programming when you accidentally fall into an infinite recursion and everything crashes. It's like I tried to hack my brain's operating system to see how it works and improve it, but I broke it instead. It feels like my mind is philosophizing and literally tearing itself apart along with the reality itself in the process. Even when I laugh at something, my mind ruins everything by asking: "What is humor anyway? Why? How? What's the point?" and so on.
I think the closest biblical description of my confused feelings would be Ecclesiastes, the book of king Solomon, in which he said something like "everything is meaningless".
Sorry for "throwing up" here, but I felt desperate. I know I sound completely insane but I hope someone can make a sense of this and give me an advice.
All I know is that I'm very confused and my mind is no longer helping me.
If there's anyone else like me, I'm sorry for you and I wish you recovery.
Thank you for reading so far. God bless you.

2024.05.28 18:26 A_Human976 Testing out of a course

Hello. I am an International student from India and I have received an offer to study Physics at Oxford and am in the process of deciding. In Oxford, do I have the freedom of choosing what course I will study at University or will that decision be taken without my opinion. For eg- If i know most or all of the content of a course, can I test out of it?
This is a significant concern for me as if i go to Oxford, I will be paying a lot of money and if I have no academic freedom and am forced to study things I already know, that would waste my time, effort and money.
I dont want to sound arrogant but I would call myself decently well at academics ( I have represented my country at the Astronomy and Astrophysics oly (IOAA) last year and have qualified for the physics oly (IPhO) this year) and there was a lot of stuff especially in the first year syllabus that I have a very good idea of.
I could not find much info on this thing on Oxford's website so i am asking here. If this is not the best forum to ask, i would appreciate if you could point me to a better place.
Thanks
