2024.05.14 05:52 Consistent-Hold4545 Experience the Elegance: Matte Satin Ceramic Black Car Vinyl Wrap

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience with the Matte Satin Ceramic Black Car Wrap. I recently decided to give my ride a makeover, and I couldn't be happier with the results. This car wrap is truly something special.
First off, let's talk about the color. The Matte Satin Ceramic Black Car Wrap has this sleek, sophisticated look that really sets it apart. It's not your typical matte black; there's a subtle satin finish that adds a touch of elegance to the overall appearance. Whether you're cruising during the day or making a statement at night, this wrap commands attention and turns heads wherever you go.
But it's not just about looks; the quality of this wrap is top-notch. Made from high-grade vinyl materials, it's durable and built to last. I've had it on my car for a few months now, and it still looks as good as the day I got it. Plus, it's resistant to fading, so I don't have to worry about it losing its sleek finish over time.
Another thing I love about the Matte Satin Ceramic Black Car Wrap is how easy it was to install. I'm not exactly a pro when it comes to car stuff, but I was able to apply it myself with just a little bit of patience and a heat gun. It went on smoothly and didn't leave any air bubbles or wrinkles, which is a huge plus in my book.
Overall, I can't recommend the Matte Satin Ceramic Black Car Wrap enough. Whether you're looking to give your car a fresh new look or simply want to protect its paint job, this wrap is the way to go. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

2024.05.14 05:39 Tall-Weight6154 Pool base preparation

I'm in the process of a DIY install of a 16x32 vinyl liner pool with a wedge bottom that slopes down to 6ft deep. I'm about ready to do the poolcrete bottom but my soil is pretty much a mix is sand and river rock type stones. When I try to shape the dirt part of the walls in the deep end they slide down like a dry sand castle.
I'm thinking I could wet the dirt to help it hold together and shape the form of the walls until I get the poolcrete installed unless there is a better way.
The poolcrete instructions say to remove rocks before laying it Down but my soil is mainly small to medium sized rocks and sand.
Does anyone else have advice on how they've successfully handled a similar situation with rocky sandy soil?

2024.05.14 04:44 byarrd base of wall gap

when installing the T&G paneling, how far off the floor should it start?
I've heard to leave a half inch gap, I've also heard to run it all the way down and put caulk...
further to that, should the foil membrane be taped to the bottom plate or just staples?
Thank you!

Our front porch has vinyl click lock flooring but whoever installed it decided to screw down the piece under the screen door instead of installing some sort of threshold or sill. What would be the ideal way to install a threshold in this situation? Door opens inward. Thanks!!

With the continuous development of interior design, all kinds of new skirting boards and designs emerge. Using LED light strips on skirting boards can produce significant decorative effects, easily changing the home or office environment. This innovative and modern solution can instantly transform spaces into warm and eye-catching atmospheres. In this guide, we'll delve into everything you need to know about LED skirting boards – their purpose, their advantages, and how you can effortlessly install them to create a chic, well-lit environment.

What is a Skirting Board?

A skirting board is basically a decorative panel extending along the junction of the interior wall and floor. It can cover the edges, prevent furniture from scratching the walls, and provide a neat decorative surface for the room. LED-lit skirting boards come in various shapes and sizes, providing concealed lighting that emits from the edges, or can be installed on walls to create a cove lighting effect. Using LED light strips on skirting boards can produce significant decorative effects and create warm, eye-catching atmospheres.

The Functions of Skirting Board

  • Protects the wall from damage when the mop is mopping the floor
  • Easily create a warm and comfortable atmosphere in any room by adding LED lighting strips
  • Hide exposed wires, using LED light strips instead of irremovable traditional wiring
  • Cover gaps between walls and floors. Construction defects may cause gaps, and skirting boards can avoid high reconstruction costs
  • Compared with ordinary skirting boards, LED skirting boards have both lighting and decorative functions, and can create atmospheres through lighting effects, making them more innovative products.

Achieve the Best LED Spotless Effect

Before starting an LED light strip lighting project, pay attention to the following points to achieve the best results:
  • Avoid getting too close to the wall, which may cause obvious light spots
  • Install LED light strips on the back of the skirting board to hide the light source
  • Consider the surface material to avoid unpleasant reflections caused by reflective surfaces
  • Adopt spotless baseboard designto create uniform light effects

Why Choose LED Skirting Boards

  • Excellent decorative effects, creating fresh and consistent line lighting
  • Innovative with both lighting and decorative functions compared to ordinary skirting boards
  • Save time, easy and quick to install
  • Protect walls from splashing water getting into wall-floor gaps during cleaning

How to Install LED Skirting Boards

  1. Measure the installation wall length to determine the required size of skirting boards and LED strips
  2. Select the required LED strip models and test to confirm normal operation
  3. Cut materials according to size and adhere the LED strips to the back of the skirting boards
  4. Install the whole skirting board system at the boundary between the wall and floor
  5. Power on to check the effects and adjust light color temperature

Installation Tips

  • Properly cut materials at corners to ensure neatness
  • Plan power access points ahead to avoid exposed wires
  • Leave enough space for heat dissipation to ensure LED chip lifespan

Conclusion

LED skirting boards provide more choices for interior design, creating spatial aesthetics with lights and lines, and represent an innovative and promising direction in the field. Compared with ordinary skirting boards, they integrate decorative and lighting functions to create unique spatial atmospheres. With continuous technological advancement, LED skirting boards will surely bring more surprises in the future. If you hace any question, contact us.

2024.05.14 03:32 chuffers16 Properly prepping basement floor

What would be the best way to properly prepare this floor to install vinyl plank flooring in our basement?
I believe the previous homeowners had carpet here before. The hot water heater busted just before they put it on the market and had someone clean it up and looks to have put some kind of sealant down. I think they didn’t take their time and left this texture (2nd pic). The white spots is plaster the drywallers dropped, not as worried about that.
Is there anything I could do to prep this floor myself? My toolbox is pretty limited right now and I’ve only really saved up enough for the plank flooring/underlayment so a contractor is likely out of the question, but not entirely. I’m handy enough to be able to figure most things out with some YouTube help. I want to make sure I do this right as I know it’ll cost me more in the long run if I don’t do it right.

2024.05.14 02:11 Illustrious-Radio-55 One time asbestos exposure is considered low risk, but does this apply to me?

One time asbestos exposure is considered low risk, but does this apply to me?
So I found out three months ago that a renovation we did 7 years ago exposed us to asbestos.
We pulled up over half a small/average size room worth of vinyl sheet floor that likely had asbestos because it was from the 70s. My dad also sanded the black adhesive under floor for about 30 minutes while we were there, he probably sanded for a bit over an hour total though while we were outside waiting (the machine was brutally loud). He sanded maybe 1/5 of the floor in that room. The door to outside and window were also open so the room had some ventilation at least, and the sander had a built in vacuum and bag to contain the dust (though im guessing the asbestos got through it because how small the fibers are).
The vinyl floor also could have had a high percentage of asbestos in it as the layer under the vinyl pattern looked gray/white. I think in total we may have spent up to 5 hours pulling this floor off tear after tear, but I guess it’s still not as bad as just sanding asbestos 🥲. The good thing is that we weren’t around the sander for too long, but even then tearing up the floor the way we did is something I wish never happened. We also swept up the debris and put in a container and then into the trash, possibly putting some dust into the air again.
My exposure was probably less than 4 hours, and my brother and sister less than 30 minutes, but what I hate is that we were young when this happened. Im pretty much certain nothing will happen to my brother and sister with only 30 minutes, but I worry for me and my parents. My parents were about 40 when this happened so im hoping if it ever affects them they will be 70 or 80 or even 90 and its not like its cutting their lives short, but my exposure at 14 is something I fear will be my end even in 30 to 50 years.
The thing is, I know I have ocd now and I think im over exaggerating and im wrong, but I cant stop thinking about this stupid day 7 years ago. I want to just stop, so I want this to be my last post about this day and then I can just move on. So I just want to know if what I hear everywhere will apply to this particular situation, it was only a few hours of exposure but feels like a bad type of exposure because of how much we damaged the asbestos materials and even sanded them. What level of exposure would this be considered, moderate or heavy?
I dont plan on smoking and I will always be careful with construction and renovation from now on as well as with radon and other lung cancer causing things. Ill be careful with my health in general and see how far it gets me, but I need to stop obsessing about this. So I just want to ask one last time now that iv’e figured out roughly how long I was exposed for ( a few hours). Can I just consider this a low risk event and move on with my life, should I be getting my lungs checked in 10 to 20 years?
I just want to be responsible about this, and move on with my life while knowing ive done everything I can. If I need to get checked in the future I will do it, but I want to do the right thing and take of myself and my family. After that, I can let go easier and move on with my life.

2024.05.14 01:59 engineerIndependence Gap Between French Doors At Bottom (Astragal Boot)

I’ve been scouring the internet for suggestions on how to fix this pretty sizable hole between these two doors at the sill. When I look from floor level I can see clear to the outside and can feel hot/cold air coming in. I went to Home Depot and was informed that what is missing here is an Astragal Boot.
This suggestion has popped up on a couple of other internet threads as well. Some other suggestions were to shove weatherstripping in there, replace the whole astragal with one that is longer or install longer door sweeps. One person even custom fabricated a wood replacement.
Some resources I’ve seen mentioned:
I ended up measuring the space and cutting it out in a rigid foam and gluing that to the underside of the door frame with a hole cut out so the lock can pass through.
I’ve attached some before and after photos for everyone.
Hopefully this helps others who have the same issue!

2024.05.14 01:23 Illustrious-Radio-55 I definitely breathed in asbestos for a few hours…

We tore up half a bedroom worth of vinyl sheet floor without ever knowing about asbestos, I was 14 when this happened and im 21 now. My dad just didn’t know, but I still feel upset that it happened and got us all exposed, including my little brother and sister who were 6 and 8 at the time.
My dad even sanded the black adhesive under the vinyl for 30 minutes while we were there, no god damn ppe aside from an n95 that I wasn’t even wearing because I was 14 and uninformed about the danger.
Its been 3 months since I found out and im still uneasy about it, we tore that damn floor to shreds with roof shingle removal tools because it was so stuck the floor. It came off tear after tear, piece after piece. I think I may have spent 2-5 hours there helping my parents, and the sander was on for 30 minutes while I was there, I may have worn an n95 for half the time I was there but idk anymore because my pictures show me not wearing it.
The only good thing is that the door to outside and a window were open so I don’t think the fibers just stayed in the aree were working in, and also the asbestos was probably white asbestos since thats was mostly used in floor. We also didnt live in this house ever, it was a second home.
And I have read about one time exposure, ive read that its considered low risk, but I feel like my situation might be different. This wasn’t just a popcorn ceiling that I stared at the wrong way, my dad sanded asbestos and thats about the worst thing you can do. He only did it for an hour or 2 and we were only in the room for less than 30 minutes when he did it, but we were certainly exposed and definitely inhaled asbestos. Also those damn vinyl floors have a gray/white backing under the vinyl pattern that can apparently be 100% asbestos, and thats terrifying.
The only good thing is my brother and sister were probably exposed for less than 30 minutes total because they spent the day outside playing, but it’s still terrifying to think they were exposed at all. It’s also scary that I don’t truly know the full extent of the exposure, im only guessing how long we were exposed based on photos and videos from that day. It could be more, but it’s probably less than I would think. I also know it was very dusty in the room, but asbestos is invisible so…
Regardless, I was definitely exposed and I want to know if the general idea of one time exposure being low risk still applies to me. I was very young when exposed, was there for up to 5 hours (probably less), and black asbestos adhesive was sanded for 30 minutes while I was there without ppe. The sheet floor we tore up may have had a very high percentage of asbestos, me and my mom were doing that for hours without, let alone my dad who spent days sanding asbestos for almost a week total as he sanded about 5 rooms worth of the stuff while we werent there. He only had an n95.
Did I get a common one time exposure that happens to lots of people, or is this worse than that?
(Also sorry if I come off as paranoid, I have been dealing with ocd since I went through a house fire a year ago, im working on getting over it though)

2024.05.14 00:51 jakogut Help dealing with plumber for roughing in kitchen island

Help dealing with plumber for roughing in kitchen island
I hired a plumber to come rough in a new drain and water lines for a kitchen island I'm building. The intent is to install a new sink and dishwasher in the island.
I have an existing sink with a 1 1/2" drain and old galvanized supply lines. I hired the plumber to install a new drain to be shared by the island and existing sink, and to connect the existing sink with my PEX manifold, while roughing in new lines for the island. I ripped up the old flooring and subfloor to gain access, as it's a crawlspace foundation adjacent to a basement, and the "crawlspace" doesn't have enough room to crawl in, nor an entryway even if it did.
They installed a new 2" ABS drain, which looks great, and roughed in the new water supply lines. In the process, they also demoed the existing drain and supply lines, leaving them disconnected from the existing sink. When I the plumber said he was done, I asked the about this, he said there wasn't enough slope to connect the existing drain with the new one, as there's not enough room in the hole that was chiseled into the basement wall when the kitchen was added on to maintain proper slope.
I wish he had said something before doing all the work, as if the hole needs to be deeper for slope, I have a rotary hammer and I can help with it.
Here's the hole to the basement with the new drain and supply lines
https://preview.redd.it/xug2xtejv90d1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2fb6bbcf63b11a3d75cf86f83ec6cb9a07a39e23
Here's where the old drain and supply lines now end
https://preview.redd.it/hquq2n1ov90d1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=595b56b56b3fa4b14a81d565a2280a5c88b204c6
The old drain can be maneuvered over top of the new PEX lines, but then it probably doesn't have the necessary slope. The way it is now, it's far too sloped, and won't be able to connect to the 2" drain. I'm not a plumber, but it seems to me that these lines being in the way of the old drain shouldn't be necessary.
I'm in a bit of a pickle, because I now have no working kitchen sink at all, and I can't close the floor up until I'm done with the plumbing. We weren't planning on decommissioning the old sink either, I made it clear I wanted the old sink to remain operational.
How can this be fixed?

new mini split install
So I have gotten a number of quotes with a number of varying opinions. I am trying to figure out how power full in terms of BTU to get installed in my cape style house.
I tried to put this as close to scale as possible rendering tougher.
The first picture is the ground floor. I am hoping to get away with one unit. I placed the unit on the wall on the right side which is the west wall. I have had people suggest between 17-24BTU for the first floor. We are hoping to cover the first floor as much as possible. I realize it wll not be perfect everywhere. WE did use a 10kBTU window unit in the east side window. It took the humidity down and did some cooling but not enough and it was really loud.
For the second floor I am looking to do two heads, one on the east side and one on the west side beadrooms. The left side is the east side. For the east bead room we got 8-12k suggested and on the other bead room 9k is pretty agreed aupon for the smaller beadroom. We are hoping the cooling from the two heads can spill over to the bathroom and other room somewhat.

Not pictures but I am also looking to do one in below grade basement.
11-15BTU is suggested
The big issue is I want enough BTU to cool on the hottest day but no so big that it short cycles and does not dehumidifies the spaces.
Also this is new Boston climate.

2024.05.13 23:35 That-Pay6373 [FL] storage unit security

Storage Unit Security
Hi! I am a 36F who keeps a lot of work items in a storage unit. I often need to go in on a weekly basis, and have always felt comfortable as it is in a good area, and I’ve never experienced any issues. The office staff stay until 6PM but unit access is until 10PM. After having an impromptu meeting pop up, I needed to go to the unit at 8PM to pick up some items for the next days impromptu meeting. As I was walking to my unit, I locked eyes with a NAKED man in the hallway. He stepped backward after seeing me, and hid in his unit. I yelled out “I’m leaving! I’m getting out of here” and ran towards the elevator. It felt like the elevator was taking forever to come, and I’ve never been so scared in my life. He could’ve dragged me into his unit, he could’ve hurt me in fear I’d tell on him. Although he did not do anything, I still feel violated and I feel very unsafe going there, even if they move my unit to a different floor. They have not cut the persons contract but are only allowing him to enter during office hours. I feel like my feelings aren’t validated.
I don’t ever want any female to experience the fear I felt. I’m somewhat traumatized from it. Flight or fight mode. Do I have any type of case here?
If not, how can I advocate for security cameras to be installed in the hallway, or for an employee to stay until 10PM… OR at least install a silent alarm someone can press if needed?

2024.05.13 22:49 cbarreda [UT][TH]

Hi everyone. So I'm looking for some guidance in this situation. Located in west valley city, Utah.
August 2023, my wife and I purchased a home (townhome) in West Valley City. Its an older unit but we wanted it as a starting home.
We knew this home came with some small cosmetic issues and 1 outside problem. The outside problem was mostly seasonal, and everything else was fine since the house is in a great location from freeways and main roads and the shops around it are growing so we saw the future potential on the home.
The outside issue is that our driveway collects water during rain time. To the point on which we would have 2 inchs of standing water on our driveway. The issue goes away around 24-48 hrs after it stop raining and it goes back to normal. Other than that the issue is almost nonexistent.
When we bought the house. We knew it came with an HOA. Yeah we know it was our first mistake. But this house was in our budget. It fill most of our requirement list and we saw the future that it had. We read the HOA requirements and what they covered and the requirements weren't so terrible, and they covered a lot of things we thought were okay.
On August we saw that when it rain, water would accumulate on the driveway. We signed the papers on august. We already knew about the standing water since we did a full inspection before buying the house. And this was address during the inspection. However, the seller and previous tenants told us that the HOA was working on the situation. We started to see what else we could do about it from our end. And found out the HOA covers this part of the house and we couldnt do much without havingto involve the HOA.
We called them in August. Addressed the issue with them and specifically told them that the issue was in our driveway and no where else and that the water was filtering into the living room when it was too severe. We decided to not install our floors until this issue was addressed. On September we "moved in" and we started to work on the house.
On September 27th, The HOA sent a company to come "fix the issue". I happened to be home that day. No one called us and told us anything. I was getting there and they were knocking on the door and thats how I found out. We had to reschedule with the concrete company because no one told us anything and we were working on the house. So we weren't ready. They came back about a week later and what they did was installed a French drain outside on the grass area and didnt do anything to address the driveway issue. When the concrete people came, they worked on the inside, removed our drywall and left our home. I called the concrete company directly and asked them when they were going to finish our walls and they said that "we remove the drywall and insulation but we dont installed it again. We do the other work. The finishing and installation of drywall has to be some other company or someone else since we dont do that". We told the HOA and no one did anything so I fixed it myself.
We contacted the HOA and told them we still have the problem. We address the issue again to them. That the driveway is the problem and not the grass area. Because the issue was not fix. They said they would look at it and let us know what other thing they could do.
We waited about 2 weeks and we emailed them again, and no answer. We emailed them again after another week and no answer. By this point it was already almost November. I emailed them once again but this time in a more threatening way saying that if something happen to my family and my property in relationship to the standing water (water freezing and my wife falling down. My car sliding off because of the ice or my walls getting damaged due to water expanding inside) they would be responsible for it. Within 24hrs we got an answer and 3 days later they came over to check what else they could do.
They said that because of the weather they couldnt do much. (No shit) It was almost December by now. And I told them thats why we let them know back August/September and they ignored us. We decided to wait until 2024 and see what they would do.
Well we reached out again on February and in march 2024 the concrete company came to the house to "fix the issue" when they arrived without giving us a noticed they saw that what they had schedule was not even what they could do and they had to reschedule. They said they would called us in about 48hrs and tell us a plan. Well its may and we still havent heard from the HOA or concrete company.
We are going to 1 year of trying to fix this issue and the HOA keeps ignoring us and pretending that they dont know whats going on. We emailed them twice in the last weeks. First email was ignored. Second they said they would let us know. This was almost 2 weeks ago
What can we do to fix this? All i want is the driveway to be fix so I can install my floors. I have over $2k on material sitting in my living room because I cant install it because I dont know when they will fix it and if they are doing anything inside the house. Since I have concrete on the main level it gets extremely cold during winter and I have a 2 year. Space heaters are expensive on electricity and I cant keep one running 24/7. Are there attorneys or organizations that dont charge much who can help me or guide me? Like i said all I want is to get it done and fix and nothing else. I dont care what the HOA does after. I just want to finish my house.
We suggested them to install a drain or some type of way to send the water outside but they keep ignoring us and saying they will see what other things they could do. Any one has any suggestions on what to do?

2024.05.13 22:36 MrSmiley25 Floor flattening/leveling question

I am planning on installing some CoreTec lvp in this basement after removing the carpet I am now seeing these cracks that are bulging from the rest of the floor by about a 1/2-3/4in. I should also note it is about 400 sqft and the whole floor is sloped towards the drain I have pictured. I’m not looking to level the floor, just flatten enough for the lvp to not flex.
I’m afraid if I use a self leveler it will flow toward the train (of course I would plug it before pouring)
Would using a tile thin set and feathering out the bulges a few feet be a bad idea?
How should I handle this?

I am calling back the contractor to fix this. How should the conversation be? Replace the planks or just fill the cracks?
Any help is appreciated!

2024.05.13 22:25 howardroark1210 Cracks on newly installed wood floors

I recently installed wood floors. And i saw multiple cracks after the floor was finished. Is this common or it needs to be fixed. If so how?
Also 1 plank in 3 rooms are squeaking. Can this be fixed?
Attaching pictures for reference.

2024.05.13 22:24 akarichard Interior Garage Painting - Quote Seems High - Sanity Check

I recently mostly finished the inside of a 2 car garage. Started off as a pole barn. Approx 24' x 24' with 9' high ceilings. I ran out of time to finish everything before I had to move. So I hired a contractor off craigslist to do the final finishing on the drywall. I had got done taping the joints/covering the screws, but it needed some more coats of mud on the joints and priming. I got quoted $1400 and I was fine with it, I was so tired of drywall at that point. I supplied all the product and tools (which seemed a bit odd to me, but whatever).
I also decided to have them paint to save me some time when I go back to finish trim/electrical. I got Sherwin William - Emerald which claims to be 1 coat coverage. Doing same color on walls and ceiling. The floor is already covered in RAM board, no trim installed anywhere. No outlets/switches installed (except for 1 outlet for the light).
I got quoted $1250 for painting, which seems awfully high to me. There's minimal prep work needed, only thing I can think of is covering the two exterior doors (normal size entry doors, not garage doors for cars). And one window.
Its basically like new construction, and I just have a hard time understanding how this is anymore than a one person, one day job. I supplied 9" and 18" rollers (both the tool/roller, trays, mixer, tape, and so on). I know how much work it takes to finish up the drywall, and its just crazy to me how a 1 day job is costing almost as much as a 4 or 5 day job that's more intensive.
So sanity check, am I crazy or $1200 too high? Any recommended counter offer I should make? It would legitimately be cheaper for me to fly across the country and do it than to pay $1200. I can get flights for $500 round trip and I already have access to a vehicle out there. I just wanted to save myself some time, so the paint would be done when I go back out to finish the electrical and trim.

2023 Sienna XLE Hybrid FWD, Braun XT Conversion - Thoughts on installing larger wheels, Pros/Cons?
Love this van. As you can tell, the Braun conversion required a generous lift kit so the floor could be dropped nearly 12 inches. The van retains a 5" ground clearance unloaded, and it also has a very neat hydraulic kneeling feature where the passenger side back end kneels down to reduce the ramp incline. This feature can be turned off with a switch on the dash.
I'm still fairly young (at heart), so sometimes I like to have things look "cool". This van certainly looks cool already, more akin to a sporty SUV than the ol "Mommy Van" of years gone by. But the glaring disparity is clearly how small the wheels look.
We went with the FWD model because it was already readily available from our local mobility dealer, and would have been more of a wait to order in a conversion on the AWD model. Our previous 2016 Dodge Journey AWD (not my vehicle, so not accessible) had recently had the AWD kick out, and it was going to be over $13,000 to repair, so we were a bit gun-shy about getting another AWD.
My model also has the tire patch kit, rather than the spare tire compartment. I did think about getting the spare tire compartment installed, afterwards but then I started daydreaming about bigger wheels, because honestly if I got a flat tire, this beauty is getting towed as I can't change a tire, obviously. I wouldn't try to put my driver to the task either.
I don't care about specialty size tires or rims, just something to give it a better, more uniform look. Plus if I need to replace a tire or rim, I want it to be affordable and easily available. But I wouldn't say no to a more aggressive tread, and would also be needing excellent winter tires for our harsh climate.
Opinions?

2024.05.13 22:01 dbrand PSA: ROG Ally Killswitch Buttons

Hey Reddit,
It's now been three days since we launched the ROG Ally Killswitch, and the first batch of shipments should be arriving today. We've been pleased to see how excited everyone is to receive their case.
Inside your order, you’ll find a small rectangular sheet of matte black vinyl and a note that contains a QR code. Figured we’d make a quick post to explain what that’s all about.
When performing our pre-launch QC of ready-to-ship mass production stock (about 4% of cases across ten unique ROG Ally devices), we found that the combination of some cases and some devices resulted in volume button tactility that lacked the signature “click” we had intended.
We’re not 100% clear on whether it’s a matter of tolerance on both the ROG Ally volume buttons and our physical buttons on the case, but - given that we found the issue before shipping orders - we figured it made sense to just find a hotfix before any orders shipped out. That's right: we hotfixed a physical product.
Luckily, the fix is quite easy - just apply a small vinyl spacer around the volume buttons. We shot a super quick tutorial video on how to install the spacer, which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/tEry1xZlOgE
Once the spacer is applied, the volume buttons will function exactly as intended.
Based on the sample size we observed during QC, we expect this to affect about 10% of cases. Of course, that’s based on the sample of ROG Ally devices we had. Given the ambiguity of which Killswitch + ROG Ally pairings may or may not be affected, we opted to include this hotfix (as well as a QR code linked to the tutorial video) with every order. The vast majority of users will never need this spacer, but we decided it would be a better experience for the ~10% of affected users to have the fix included in-box, rather than requiring them to contact us to get a tiny piece of vinyl shipped out.
All of which is to say: when your ROG Ally Killswitch arrives, don't panic when you see the spacer and QR code instructions. Try your case out first, see if the volume buttons function as expected, and then apply the spacer if they don't. Once you do, you'll be good to go.
That's it from us - we've gotta get back to shipping out these Killswitch orders. We're excited for everybody to get their hands on this.
