Introduction
Chennai, a bustling metropolitan city in India, is home to numerous esteemed international schools known for their high academic standards, diverse curriculums, and holistic development programs. Securing a spot in these prestigious institutions can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the essential steps and provide valuable tips to navigate the admission process successfully.
Explore the best junior colleges in Chennai, renowned for their exceptional academic programs, experienced faculty, and comprehensive extracurricular activities. Find the perfect institution to kickstart your higher education journey with detailed information on courses, admissions, and facilities.
Understanding the Landscape
Chennai’s top international schools include names like the American International School Chennai (AISC), The British International School Chennai, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, among others. These schools offer various curricula, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), and the American curriculum, catering to the diverse needs of expatriate and local families.
Research and Selection
Identify Your Priorities: Determine what’s important for you and your child – curriculum, extracurricular activities, school culture, location, fees, etc.
Create a List: Make a list of potential schools that match your criteria. Visit their websites, attend open houses, and read reviews to gather more information.
Consider the Curriculum: Different schools offer different curriculums such as IB, IGCSE, or American. Choose one that aligns with your child’s future educational plans.
Application Process
Check Admission Criteria: Each school has its own set of admission criteria, including age requirements, previous academic performance, and language proficiency.
Prepare Necessary Documents: Commonly required documents include birth certificates, academic records, transfer certificates, proof of residence, passport-sized photographs, and sometimes medical records.
Submit the Application: Fill out the application forms meticulously. Some schools offer online application facilities, while others may require physical submission.
Entrance Exams and Interviews
Entrance Tests: Many top international schools in Chennai conduct entrance exams to assess a student’s academic capabilities. These tests typically cover subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science.
Interviews: Schools may also conduct personal interviews with the student and sometimes with parents to understand the child's personality, interests, and family background.
Preparation: Prepare your child for these assessments by reviewing past papers if available, and practicing common exam questions.
Financial Considerations
Tuition Fees: International schools tend to have higher tuition fees compared to local schools. It’s crucial to understand the fee structure, which may include admission fees, annual fees, and other charges.
Scholarships and Financial Aid: Some schools offer scholarships or financial aid to meritorious students. Inquire about these opportunities and understand the application process and eligibility criteria.
Additional Costs: Be aware of additional costs such as transportation, uniforms, extracurricular activities, and other miscellaneous expenses.
Final Steps
School Visits: Visit the shortlisted schools to get a firsthand experience of the campus, facilities, and the overall environment. This also allows you to interact with teachers and current students.
Decision Making: After visits and assessments, discuss with your child and make an informed decision. Consider factors like the school’s culture, teaching methods, and how they align with your child’s learning style.
Acceptance and Enrollment: Once you receive admission offers, review them carefully. Follow the instructions for acceptance, which usually involves paying an admission fee and submitting the necessary documents.
Tips for a Successful Application
Start Early: Begin your research and application process well in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.
Stay Organized: Keep track of application deadlines, required documents, and test dates.
Communicate: Maintain regular communication with the admissions office for updates and clarifications.
Prepare Your Child: Ensure your child is well-prepared for entrance tests and interviews.
Encourage them to be confident and honest during interactions.
Seek Guidance: If needed, seek advice from educational consultants who specialize in international school admissions.
Top 10 International Schools in Chennai:
  • Anand Singapore International School (ASIS)

  • Gateway International School

2024.05.14 07:53 Tomatonnaise Just lost Cal Grant, what can I do now

Hello,
For most of my undergrad my parents have had an income very firmly within the Cal Grant income limit; I've confirmed this with their tax forms each time I've filed. I've qualified for it for the past three years. This filing, they barely passed the upper limit, losing my Cal Grant. At the same time, my sister also is about to start undergrad and, assuming we were going to get Cal Grant, she committed to a UC. Of course, I am privileged to be in this position where my parents have a net income high enough. Still, their incomes are definitely not sufficient and our financial situation is not strong enough to support the both of us going to college simultaneously. Bad timing with the changes to the FAFSA sibling discount I guess.
Is there anything I can do? Can I negotiate with my FA office? I work full-time over breaks and part-time over the semester. I've applied to and gotten some scholarships. We also have the MCS, but that also just isn't enough. My family is panicked over this. I'm usually the one organizing the documents for FA, so it's my fault for not double checking things this time around because I just thought it would be the same as previous years. I feel especially bad about that. I'm sorry if this comes off as tone-deaf or too privileged, that isn't my intention. Thank you for any help.

2024.05.14 07:24 Rescue900 Financial Aid 24-25

Hi all,
I was just curious as to if the merit/scholarship money offered on the financial aid form sent to us sometime between now and the last 2 weeks so is our FINAL AMOUNT. (Not counting loans.)
I’m coming from single-parent income and overall had received pretty good scholarship money at all other colleges I applied too (including other UC’s)
For example, does UCI not do the middle class scholarship..? A friend of mine received it for UCSC and UCSB and i was given it by UCSB but i don’t see it on my financial offer from UCI.
Is there any other ways to potentially increase my scholarship/merit amount?? UCI offered me close to nothing while I got quite a bit offered at every other UC I applied to (SB, SD etc) and elsewhere so it just really threw me off since UCI was my goal school and I was really hoping to have the total cost be around the same as for the other UC’s I had applied to like SB as I really don’t wanna be taking out a ton more in loans at UCI than I would elsewhere, if possible.
Already submitted my SIR so I’ll likely be going to UCI with the intention of SWE anyways but just wanted to know.
Sorry I wrote a lot I just have no idea how to go about this lol. Thank you to anyone who can help!! have a nice day

2024.05.14 06:35 EWNaidoo Is it Possible to Force a SQL Pulled String Displayed in FPDF to have Different Sizing to Another String in the Same Double Quotes/Cell?

Context

This project is for an invoice application that generates a pdf from a button click. Its plain and simple, approched with the MVP concept. Over time, I did add a few details but they do not interfere with the PDF generation.

My Tool Belt

The tools I've used for R&D are:

Problem

In the latest FPDF version, I want to change the words thats coming from a MySQL database to be bigger in size AND displayed in the same CELL. This means displaying the following:
Cell(190, 5, "NAME: " . $data['name'], "B", 0, "L"); } } ?>
where the name column (from MySQL), should be bigger in font size than "NAME: " in the output.

What I Tried

I've used the following methods (from FPDF), with no success:
  1. MultiCell
  2. SetFont
  3. GetY
  4. GetX
  5. Ln
  6. SetFontSize
  7. SetX
  8. SetY
  9. SetXY
  10. Write
Yes, I did look on StackOverFlow and Googled it, and as similar as the titles are to solving my problem, they do not provide the actual solution. I also verfied just now if there are any answers out there to answer my question as my last chance. There are none :( . I need to make the data from MySQL bigger like in the PDF from Acrobat where you're filling out a form. Imagine filling out a PDF form for the goverment or scholarships, they make the user inputs bigger that the hard-coded string.
The mentioned methods used were also the ones I've implemented to solve this problem. I've used many more methods that aren't mentioned, and they obviously lead to nowhere.

What I Got

I am currently stuck on the Cell method and from researching article, youtube videos and blog posts, have gotten no where near to my goal.

Quick Review

Heres the documentation:

2024.05.14 02:02 250Coupe Broke yet another wheel...

I've broken the outer rim on at least 3 of the Landy's wheels and 3 of the Buggy's wheels and just now broke yet another on the Buggy within minutes of testing it out. Part of this may be due to my insistence on using matte PLA which isn't known for layer adhesion. On the Landy, I switched to black PC from white matte PLA and have not had another issue but it's also not seen many hours since the change. On the Buggy, I switched to white PETG form the matte while PLA and it seems stronger but then again I just broke another one today. I don't know for sure if it was due to the tire slipping off and exposing the wheel or if I'm asking too much of the design.
Just found this saved draft from who knows how long ago. I reworked and printed some wheels off Printables this week for the Landy since I broke two of the PC wheels. If these don’t last, I’ll adapt store bought wheels.

2024.05.14 01:51 manboat31415 [Diablo 4] Team Lilith vs Team Inarius is a psyop. They will not divide us.

Yesterday someone made just a great post about the mythological icon Lilith and someone commented about being caught off guard it didn't end up being about Diablo to which someone replied stating that no one makes rants about Diablo 4. Well get dunked on because I'm making a rant about Diablo 4. (mods this is meant as a joke, please do not interpret as a violation of the rules for being a response rant or a repeat rant).
Diablo as a series is pretty classically grim dark. Things are basically always exclusively getting worse for everyone all the time and every time something gets better there is some major caveat that makes something else worse. Stuff like being forced to ally ourselves with entities who most definitely do not have our best interests at heart (or quite frequently openly have our best disinterests at heart like making a deal with the literal embodiment of hatred). Diablo 4 asks us to make such choice and presents us with two, let's say not great options.
Lilith a demon who claims to have humanities best interests at heart. She is humanities ancient mother after all. She says this while leaving a trail of destruction in her wake. The main gist of her plan is to absorb the fragmented remains of her father's power. Mephisto one of the prime evils and Lord of Hatred. She claims that with this power she will be strong enough to empower humanity enough that they will be able to stand against the Burning Hells and High Heaven and escape from the Eternal Conflict. Doesn't sound so bad, but I'll reiterate that everyone she interacts and bestows her particular brand of blessing on -- the Wanderer notwithstanding -- goes violently insane.
Inarius an angel who couldn't more clearly not give a single fuck about humanity if he tried. His "plan" is to kill Lilith in hopes that will redeem him enough that his exile will be rescinded and he can go back to High Heaven.
There you have it. Mom and Dad have formed cults and using them to wage proxy wars with one another and their extended families. This of course mirrors the same Eternal Conflict bullshit that has been ruining humanity's collective day since Lilith and Inarius originally got it on and made Sanctuary. Now pick a team.
Except, there is a third option. The immortal factions on opposing sides of the Eternal Conflict see only themselves. Mortals are fundamentally weaker than them and all we're good for are hunting for sport, being pitied for the whole hunted for sport thing, being cleansed as the unholy half-demon abominations we are, and waging proxy wars. They're super wrong though. Humanity collectively is more than capable of competing. Between the scholarship of the Horadrim and occasional very gifted human humanity does a more of the leg work for solving the whole Prime Evil problem than the angels do.
"Gifted human" is also me really understating things. Most Diablo player characters are incredibly strong. Regularly beating champions on both sides of the Eternal Conflict. I say most because the Diablo 3 protagonist, the Nephalem, scales so high that they're kind of a writing problem. "Incredibly strong" doesn't cut it. They beat Diablo after he absorbed the other lords of hell becoming the Prime Evil. Later the Nephalem beats Malthael, the archangel of death who himself absorbed the evils trapped in the Black Soulstone to try and level the playing field. Hell, depending on how canon you consider Adventure Mode in Diablo 3 is the Nephalem (the collective people, not just the player character) are so powerful the best way they could challenge themselves was to create the Nephalem Rifts which are basically pocket dimensions of pure violence because angels and demons just can't keep up. Greater Rifts are basically what would happen if in his boredom Saitama from One Punch Man developed expressly to be able to create things strong enough to give him a real fight.
With this all said if humanity ever buckles down, unites into a cohesive whole and puts all their combined effort into fighting both the Burning Hells and High Heaven they could probably finally end the Eternal Conflict with both sides losing leading to Sanctuary exiting stage left as a grim dark setting.
Demons and Angels both suck for humans (though clearly demons are consistently a lot worse). Humanity's salvation will only come when it is taken by force. It will never be granted to us in a magnanimous act by our immortal ancestors. Fuck Team Lilith. Fuck Team Inarius. Team Humanity? Fuck Yeah!

2024.05.14 00:00 faze_contusion Is it common to not get any need-based aid?

I am fully decided on a school due to mission fit, location, match list, etc. However, the school is offering me a grand total of $0 in need-based aid. They did require my parent's tax information to determine my aid package, even though I am completely independent. On top of that, my parents live in a very HCOL area. Even though their income is higher than the national average, it is lower than the median in their area. They are not rich. Far from it. My dad is a bus driver and my parents own only the house they're living in and paying a mortgage for. I myself have been working pretty low-wage scribe and research jobs the past few years so I am likewise not ballin. I got through undergrad through need-based scholarships and Pell Grant, and my/my parent's financial situation is largely the same. Also the school mentioned that like 60+% of students get some form of aid, so I was a little surprised to see that I am getting zilch. Is this just the norm? Would it be advisable to ask for a reconsideration? Any other tips to get finaid/scholarship/grant money?
Thanks for the advice. As the first in my fam to do this medical school thing, I am just trying to figure things out :')

Support For PLA sticking to PLA
I've come across the need to use supports for a flat 90 degree overhang that I have in a prototype that I'm working on. This lead me to this form. I grabbed this file, scaled it up %150 imported settings from said post before and clicked print using PETG as an interface. The PETG stuck to the top of both overhangs but not to the bottom interface layer. I tried again but using bambulabs support for PLA. Same result as when using PETG. I've tried fine tuning settings trying tree supports different interface patterns ECT no luck. What is my printer doing different. what settings do i need to change?

2024.05.13 19:39 ewk Foyan's Zen more Sciencey, not Neo-Christian New Agey

Why should we care?

Zen and Science are both less popular than Neo-Christian New Age on social media. I think this is do in large part to Ttump's Presidency, which encouraged people across the political spectrum to believe what they felt should be true, rather than reason from facts.
This "feelings over facts" was especially true for people who, 60+ years later, are still getting their information about Zen, China, Buddhism, etc. from the likes of Japanese Buddhists, Alan Watts, and other long ago debunked claims: www.reddit.com//zen/wiki/fraudulent_texts. Nazis. Who the @#$# would believe that Nazi scholarship on Japan would be a basis for understand Zen history over Blue Cliff Record?
Yet a Neo-Christian New Ager is currently sitting at 19 upvotes on our front page, despite admitting in the comments that he had no evidence in support of his claims.

How do Zen and Science contrast with Neo-Christian New Age?

  1. Demonstrations in reality as opposed to "I’ll take my mystical experience and realization over decades of poring over books for the truth"
    • Science is based on collecting data and replicating others' data collection
    • Zen is a tradition of public interview, with 1,000 years of data collection in the form of historical records, mostly transcripts.
    • Neo-Christian New Age is about mystical experience, not anything from reality that could be written in a book.
  2. Zen and Science acknowledge history, Neo-Christian New Age has anti-historical claims
    • Zen Masters and science talk about what we agree happened. Neo-Christian New age invents history
  3. Zen and Science talk about finding truth in reality. Neo-Christian new age talks about mysticism as the basis for truth
    • Foyan, in particular, rejects mysticism in the way Huangbo rejects Buddhism.

Foyan Wrekks Neo-Christian New Age "mysticismers"

Some people immediately declare, “ I have nothing to say at all, and no reason either.” They do not realize this is in fact a rationalization!
They make a cliche of "your own mind" and then try to use mind to realize mind.
There is another type of Zen teacher who tells people not to make logical assessments, that they lose contact the minute they speak, and should recognize the primordial. This kind of “ teacher” has no explanation at all.

.

Welcome! ewk comment: Foyan has a ton of these... he's very down to earth, materialistic even. Like Huangbo is anti-Buddhist. Still, if you don't read the book, what will you have to discuss?

2024.05.13 18:56 bcmel Applying for a Belgium Schengen Visa - FROM UK MANCHESTER- My Experience

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my recent experience applying for a Belgium Schengen visa, and let me tell you, it was far from smooth sailing.
A little background: I'm currently pursuing my Master's in the UK on a European Union scholarship. This scholarship aims to enhance understanding and knowledge about the EU. Since Brexit, this is the last year scholars can study in the UK under this program, making me one of the final recipients of this scholarship studying in the UK.
I've been working in the public sector in my home country since 2019, so aside from the monthly salary, all my expenses are covered by scholarship. Also I work part time in the UK.
As part of the program, all scholars are supposed to meet in Brussels for a visit to the EU Parliament and other related activities. So, naturally, I applied for a Belgium Schengen visa to facilitate this trip. All trip expenses will be covered by the scholarship again but in any case I had shown more than enough savings.
Now, here's where things got frustrating. Despite having a solid track record of Schengen visas (five in total since 2015, including a D type visa for Portugal) with durations of at least six months each of them, and visas for the US (still 8 years valid) and Japan and obviously UK my application for Belgium was met with disappointment.
In my motivational letter, I explained the purpose of my trip - a three-day visit to Brussels for the planned activities, followed by a desire to explore more of Europe during the summer break. Despite this, I was granted a multi-entry visa, but with a duration of only seven days. Seven days!
This limitation feels like a missed opportunity, especially considering the aim of my scholarship and the fact that I've been a responsible visa holder in the past.
To add insult to injury, the application process itself was a nightmare. The TLS contact in Manchester, where I applied, left much to be desired. The fees were excessive, and the service was subpar.
You have to complete an additional form in the center why you want to go to Belgium :) That's funny because all it is written in application form. I have applied Schengen visa many times seriously this is the worst in general.
Overall, my experience with applying for a Belgium Schengen visa has been disappointing, to say the least. I hope sharing this serves as a cautionary tale for others considering a similar application.
I would never ever apply from Belgium again.
Here is the timeline.

10th of May 2024- Passport returned to the TLS

“The Department recommends that all students, even those who have submitted a paper FAFSA, complete the online FAFSA if possible unless the student filed a paper FAFSA to meet an aid or scholarship deadline prior to the availability of online processing. Filing an online FAFSA will negate the paper filing date.”
Check with your schools and scholarship administrators to see which you should do. Most will want you to file the online version ASAP because we’ll get the data sooner than if we wait for your paper FAFSA to be processed.

2024.05.13 10:52 TocharianX Orthodox councils have erred, making Orthodoxy untrue

This is going to be a long one. Firstly, the Confession of Dositheus, a confession ratified by the Pan-Orthodox Council of Jerusalem in 1672 and signed by all Patriarchs since the Council of Crete in 2016, says the following in its second decree (you can read it here https://www.crivoice.org/creeddositheus.html ):
"but the Catholic Church, as never having spoken, or speaking from herself, but from the Spirit of God – who being her teacher, she is ever unfailingly rich – it is impossible for her to in any wise err, or to at all deceive, or be deceived; but like the Divine Scriptures, is infallible, and hath perpetual authority." (Confession of Dositheus, Decree 2)
However, it appears as if the Orthodox Church has erred in at least two places in its councils. Firstly, the Council of Jassy in 1642 ratified the Confession of Peter Moghila, which states the following in its 104th decree (https://maksimologija.org/mogila-orthodox-confession ):
"The ointment of chrism is the second mystery; and this had its beginning at the time when the Holy Spirit came down from heaven and rested upon the Apostles, and sealed them with his divine grace, that they might preach the faith of Christ steadfastly and without ceasing. Of this blessing and divine assistance hath every one need who becometh a Christian; and as then the Holy Spirit came down in the visible form of fire and bestowed his grace, or gifts, upon the Apostles, so now, when the priest anointeth the newly baptised person with the holy oil, he becomes endued from above with the gifts of the Holy Spirit: As appears from the words which the priest (as appointed) useth in the celebration of this Mystery; namely, the seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit, Amen. As if he should say, By the anointing of this holy ointment thou art sealed and confirmed into the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which thou dost receive for a confirmation of thy Christian faith. Agreeable hereto are the words of the Apostle (2 Cor. 1.21), He which establisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God: Who hath also sealed us, and given the Earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. This Anointing, or rather the bestowing the Efficacy of this Unction, was done in the times of the Apostles by laying on of hands; according to the Scripture (Acts 8.17), Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. This was afterwards performed by anointing with ointment, as we learn from St Dionysius the Areopagite, who was the Disciple of St Paul (Ecclesiastical Hierarchy, chs. 2 and 4)."
^ The text above clearly attributes the work of Pseudo-Dionysius to Dionysius the Areopagite as mentioned in the book of acts. By citing Ecclesiastical Hierarchy here, it is saying that this text was written by a disciple of the historical Paul. The problem is that scholarship is unanimous that the works of Pseudo-Dionysius are dependant on Proclus, who wrote in the late 5th century. Even if this is not true, we do not have any unambiguous mentions of the work of Dionysius before the sixth century, which would be odd if he was a prominent apostle, who, according to Church tradition, later became the Bishop of Athens. Furthermore, this work, Ecclesiastical Hierarchy, contains references to ecclesiastical structures that were not present in the first century. Furthermore, Pseudo-Dionysius contains references to theurgy, yet this term first appears in the Chaldean Oracles, the earliest of which were written in the third century. There are no references to theurgy from the first century.
A= 'we learn [that it was performed by anointing with oitment] from St Dionysius the Areopagite, who was the Disciple of St Paul'
B= St Dionysius the Areopagite was the Disciple of St Paul
A → B
B = false
A is false
Below I have attached some resources on Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite:

It is considered completely untenable that he was a disciple of St. Paul by modern scholarship. Regarding earlier texts that seem to mention him, modern scholarship has shown that instead, Pseudo-Dionysius was dependant on these: "Until more recently more credit was given to other lines of evidence on which Franz Hipler endeavoured to support his entirely new thesis, to the effect that the author of the writings lived about the year 375 in Egypt, as Abbot of Rhinokorura. Hipler's attempts, however, at removing the textual difficulties, ekleipsis, adelphotheos, soma, proved to be unsuccessful. In fact, those very passages in which Hipler thought that the Fathers had made use of the Areopagite (e.g., in Gregory of Nazianzus and Jerome) do not tell in favor of this hypothesis; on the contrary, they are much better explained if the converse be assumed, namely, that Pseudo-Dionysius drew from them. Hipler himself, convinced by the results of recent research, has abandoned his opinion." (Catholic Encyclopedia)
Note that the letter describing the reception of the Confession of Peter Moghila describes it as such:
"…vested with the most full and plenary power of the whole sacred Synod; he went into Moldavia, as we have said, together with Porphyrius; whither also, sent from the Russians, came Isaias Trophinus, and Conovicius, and Xenovicius; men truly excellent, adorned with all kind of learning and liberal knowledge. These three taking God only for their guide and master, who is the giver of all knowledge, and of all true holiness and understanding, brought the book to this excellent conclusion; having by much mutual disquisition and disputation thoroughly purged it from all foreign doctrines and defilements of novelty, and then forthwith he sent it to the most holy four orthodox patriarchs, the successors in the seats of the Apostles, to be reviewed and considered of. They also confirmed it with their approbation, as containing the true and genuine doctrines, and in nothing departing from the sincere and catholic faith of the Greeks, and declared it to be pure and uncorrupt; by the universal judgement, determination and consent of all, and furthermore by their own proper subscription, and of their clergy as appears hereunto annexed, they decreed and confirmed it; and entitled it, not only of the Russians, but by a more universal Appellation, The orthodox Confession of all the Greeks. Yet however, this book as it was but lately to be had in print among the Russians, so among the Greeks it was only to be had in manuscripts, and that but very rarely. Whereupon, the Lord Panagiota, Interpreter to his imperial Majesty of the East and West, a person of wisdom and piety, and entirely devoted to true religion; as he is most regardful and affectionate of our Greek nation, and zealous contender for the orthodox faith; among his many other magnificent works and public employments, wherein he is daily and hourly engaged, he willingly undertook the care and patronage of this also; and caused this book to be printed at his own expense in our and the latin languages, that every one, who was desirous to increase in piety, might without any expense (for he caused the copies to be distributed to all gratis) be provided with a book, from when as from a source of pure and living water, and out of the genuine fountain of salvation draw the sacred doctrine of our Church, unpolluted with the muddy and foreign opinions of sectaries. And now, let no one marvel, that this book is expressed in a plain style, and unadorned with eloquence; seeing that thereby, it is not only fitted for the learned, but the unlearned multitude also. For the wise and prudent reader ought not to regard the unfinished manner of expression, but the truth of the words and thoughts." (Prefatory Letter of Patriarch Nectarius of Jerusalem)
The above quote can once again be found here: https://maksimologija.org/mogila-orthodox-confession/
This letter describes the way in which the Confession was declared as ‘containing the true and genuine doctrines, and in nothing departing from the sincere and catholic faith of the Greeks, and declared it to be pure and uncorrupt; by the universal judgement, determination and consent of all’ by the patriarchs who signed off on it. As such, it seems that it was viewed as infallible.
The Pan-Orthodox Synod of Jerusalem, in ratifying the Confession of Peter Moghila, says this: "And only some six or seven years ago at the most there was published a book intituled The Orthodox Confession of the Eastern Church, which the IVTost Holy Metropolitan, Peter of Kieff, compiled ; and which was revised* and corrected, where revision and correction were needed, at the instance of the Synod of Jassy, by the Protosyncellus and Preacher of the Great Church at Constantinople, Meletius Syrigus, from Crete. And this the Eastern Church hath entirely received, and doth receive ; and the same was published" (Dositheus et al. 2011: pp. 15)
You can find this text on internet archive: https://archive.org/details/actsanddecreess00lucagoog/page/n26/mode/2up?q=Kieff
Dositheos, Robertson James Nathaniel William Beauchamp, and Cyril Lucaris. The acts and decrees of the synod of jerusalem: Sometimes called the Council of Bethlehem, Holden under Dositheus, patriarch of jerusalem in 1672. Charleston, SC: BiblioLife, 2011.
The Holy Spirit didn't lead the Synod of Jassy to correct the authorship of the Dionysian corpus? This part implies that correction and revision were not needed in decree 104 of the Confession of Peter Moghila, and, furthermore, that the Church entirely receives the confession as dogmatic.
Secondly, the Horos of the Photian Council of 879, considered the eighth ecumenical council by Orthodox Christians, says this (read it here https://www.oodegr.com/english/dogma/synodoi/8th_Synod_Dragas.htm ):
"Jointly sanctifying and preserving intact the venerable and divine teaching of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which has been established in the bosom of our mind, with unhesitating resolve and purity of faith, as well as the sacred ordinances and canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles with an unwavering judgment, and indeed, those Seven holy and ecumenical Synods which were directed by the inspiration of the one and the same Holy Spirit and effected the [Christian] preaching, and jointly guarding with a most honest and unshakeable resolve the canonical institutions invulnerable and unfalsified, we expel those who removed themselves from the Church, and embrace and regard worthy of receiving those of the same faith or teachers of orthodoxy to whom honor and sacred respect is due as they themselves ordered."
In this statement, there is an entailment that the disciples have sacred ordinances and canonical stipulations.
The entailment is as follows:
We expel those… → ([we are] Jointly sanctifying and preserving intact… the sacred ordinances and canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles with an unwavering judgment (based on sentence structure) → The Apostles have canonical stipulations)
Here, the structure of the sentence shows that "we expel those who removed themselves from the Church, and embrace and regard worthy of receiving those of the same faith or teachers of orthodoxy to whom honor and sacred respect is due as they themselves ordered" is dependent upon 'jointly sanctifying and preserving in tact...the sacred ordinances and canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles'
A = 'we expel those who removed themselves from the Church, and embrace and regard worthy of receiving those of the same faith or teachers of orthodoxy to whom honor and sacred respect is due as they themselves ordered.'
The sentence structure indicates that this entails B:
B = [we are] Jointly sanctifying and preserving intact… the sacred ordinances and canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles with an unwavering judgment
C= The Apostles have canonical stipulations
A → (B → C) = (A ˄ B) → C
For example, if I say 'keeping in mind the letter that Obama wrote me, I will do x', this entails that Obama wrote me a letter. If my statement entails something false, the statement is false: If p is false and q is true or p is true and q is false, the statement is still false.
P. Q. P + Q
TRUE. TRUE. TRUE FALSE. TRUE. FALSE
TRUE. FALSE. FALSE
FALSE FALSE. FALSE
So lets say that p + q is '(we are) Jointly sanctifying and preserving intact...the sacred ordinances and canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles with an unwavering judgment'
p = (we are) Jointly sanctifying and preserving intact...the sacred ordinances...of his holy disciples and Apostles with an unwavering judgment
q= (we are) Jointly sanctifying and preserving intact...canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles with an unwavering judgment'
Even if the Disciples have ordinances, if p+q =B above (based on the text) and q entails C then if C is false q is false and p + q is also false.
B = p+q
B→ C
p+q → C
p C
q → C
C= false
q = false
p + q = false
A → B and B = p + q
A → p + q
A = false
The problem is, it is considered completely untenable that the canons of the apostles actually go back to the apostles, as they quote canons from the Council of Antioch in 341 and reference a type of Church hierarchy not present in authentic writings from the first century written by presumed successors of the apostles. They are also not mentioned before the 4th century, which is very suspect for a canonical collection supposedly left by the apostles to help govern the Church. If the council of Antioch is instead dependent on the canons, why does it not cite them? If there are other canons that go back to the Apostles, where are they, and what is the evidence that they do? Certainly no other canonical collection states that it has a directly apostolic origin. Thus, it can be said that the Horos of the Eighth Ecumenical Council entails something false, which means in no ambiguous terms that it has erred.
Note that the statement from the Confession of Dositheus reads: "it is impossible for her to in any wise err, or to at all deceive, or be deceived; but like the Divine Scriptures, is infallible, and hath perpetual authority" (Decree 2) and again "In like manner the Church is taught indeed by the Life-giving Spirit, but through the medium of the holy Fathers and Doctors (whose rule is acknowledged to be the Holy and Ecumenical Synods; for we shall not cease to say this ten thousand times); and, therefore, not only are we persuaded, but do profess as true and undoubtedly certain, that it is impossible for the Catholic Church to err, or at all be deceived, or ever to choose falsehood instead of truth. For the All-holy Spirit continually operating through the holy Fathers and Leaders faithfully ministering, delivers the Church from error of every kind." (Decree 12)
If we call the second quote above x, it seems that x entails the truth of all other binding statements the church has made. Statement A from further above is binding because of its presence in a Horos (definition) from an ecumenical council.
Horoi from Ecumenical Councils are binding and infallible
A is a Horos
A is binding and infallible
x from decree 12 → A
A is false
x is false
You can read the following sources on the Canons of the 'Apostles' and why scholarship is unanimous as to their status as a forgery or fraud: https://www.jstor.org/stable/23947920?searchText=apostolic+canons&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicSearch%3FQuery%3Dapostolic%2Bcanons%26so%3Drel&ab_segments=0%2Fbasic_search_gsv2%2Fcontrol&refreqid=fastly-default%3Afb0f4deadf16b447c63b049972f4248e

https://ccel.org/ccel/schaff/encyc01/encyc01.html?term=Apostolic%20Constitutions%20and%20Canons
etc.
Note that 'canonical stipulations of his holy disciples and Apostles' is not the name of a document, and, if the statement should be analyzed [canonical] [stipulations] rather than [canonical stipulations], why would there be stipulations of the Apostles that wouldn't be canonical if they are the guardians of Church tradition received from Christ?
From these two arguments, it is clear that the Orthodox Church has erred and been deceived into thinking that forgeries are legitimate and actually originate from their pseudonymous attributions. Error and deception are just what the Holy Spirit was supposed to prevent according to the Pan-Orthodox and binding Confession of Dositheus. If a pan-Orthodox council signed by all Patriarchs with the same authority as other ecumenical councils as per i.e. the acts of the seventh ecumenical council (https://ubipetrusibiecclesia.com/2020/07/03/what-makes-a-council-ecumenical/#nicaea2 ) can be wrong, how can anything in Orthodox tradition be trusted? Keep in mind these are not disciplinary canons either, the texts cited are meant to be a binding confession of faith (for the Confession of Peter Moghila), and the definition (Horos) of an ecumenical council (the Horos of the Photian Council of 879). On the ecumenical status of the latter in the east, see https://www.oodegr.com/english/dogma/synodoi/8th_Synod_Dragas.htm and https://orthodoxwiki.org/Eighth_Ecumenical_Council
On the ecumenical status of the Council of Jassy see https://orthodoxchristiantheology.com/2022/12/21/the-delayed-synodical-receptions-of-the-councils-of-jasy-1642-and-jerusalem-1672/
The Photian Council was also ecumenical in Rome for a while before they opted to go with the earlier robber council as the legitimate one, so this post may also falsify Roman Catholicism.

2024.05.13 09:18 Aliximery I'm 16 and feel like I'm wasting my life

I know that the title sounds ridiculous and that many will say that 16 is still very young. But for some reason it doesn't feel like it. I feel like I'm just constantly trying to catch up with time. I don't have anything that I'm passionate about. Sometimes I'll get intrested in something, daydream about becoming some great next thing , and then the flame just burns out. I'm so jealous of people who have a passion that they can stick to. I know many people around me who have something like this, and I feel like I'm behind them because I don't. In fact, many people in my class are very accomplished people. Two girls in my girls do ballet and dance in a theatre. Another girl in my class does competitive dancing. A guy from my class plays football and is also a math genius. Another plays tennis and travels a lot. I have a few people in my class who draw. Some sing and play instruments. A girl from a higher class that I'm acquaintances with plays in theatre. Another girl that I know, was awarded last year by our city as the most accomplished student. She was also the school president last year, was a part of the debates team, and a part of youth city council.
I could probably list more but I think you get it. Everyone around me is so accomplished, has something that they are passionate about while I feel like I have nothing. Whenever I find something that I think must be it, I end up losing intrest after awhile.
I took swimming classes for about 7 years. ( wasn't really something that I was passionate about. It's my parents that signed up ). I have tried learning a new language but always end up quitting for some reason. Currently I can only my native and English.
I used to draw a lot back when I was like 10/11 and watched a lot of tutorials on yt but nothing ever came out of it. I kind of stopped being intrested in it and now I'll draw something once every few months.
I also wanted to write my own book. ( I kind of still want to tbh ). But I feel like I can never form a good enough idea. In terms of writing, I also songwrite sometimes. I don't do it super often. And I'm more often than not dissatisfied with what I write.
Took guitar classes for about 2 years. I quit as the classes focused mainly on playing classical music. While I just wanted to know enough to be able to play the songs that I like. Right now, I barely play. I go through phases when I play guitar non stop for a few weeks , put it down and then won't even touch it for the next few monts. Not to mention my playing is extremely mediocre.
I used to sing too. I was in the church choir from when I was 8 up to when I was 10. I started taking singing classes when I was in 5th grade and resigned this year. It was a hard decision but next year I'll be starting the IB program. And I know from my teachers , and people in classes above me how hard it can be. I'll be taking chemistry, biology and english for HL and math , native and psycholoy for SL. And unfortunately with chemistry, I've heard that the two teachers we have are not the best at teaching. Which means that I'll have to study a lot on my own. This year I already struggled with trying to with mingling singing with all my school work and other responsibilities. And at the end decided that it's just not possible for me.
I was in the debates team this year. We managed to get second place in a national tournament. Unfortunately, I also won't continue next year. This was extremely time consuming and caused me a lot of stress. And next year I want to focus mainly on my studies. Maybe I'll take part in some single competitions but I'm not too sure about it yet.
Everything that I do just seems to ends after sometime. And it just frustrates me so much. I always wanted to be an accomplished person. When I was little, I used to be a " performer ", that's what my family memebrs always tell me. I would sing, dance, recite poems and make my own plays for them too watch. I remember some of them joking that I'm going to be a star. From people in my elementary I heard similiar things.
Nowdays I just hear that I used to be more out there. That I don't sing anymore. That I'm not as loud as I used to be. Sometimes I think that the reason why I can't get into anything is because my true passion is just trying to impress other people.
After I graduate, I'd like to study medicine to become a psychiatrist. My dream univeristy is Oxford. Which I know sounds ridiculous, knowing that I don't have the money to pay for the tution. I've heard of something called a full ride scholarship. Which apparently covers all the school expenses. But I've also heard that it's almost impossible to get. And that you really need to stand out to be able to get it. So as much as I want it, I know that it's probably not possible for me.
Right now, I'm trying to learn japanese. And I've also been thinking recently of learning how to figure skate. I'm not thinking of signing up to any class, I just want to try it on my own so I won't have anything obligations. I'm hoping that this time it'll work
I know this post is all over the place probably but I just wanted to say everything that's on my mind.
