I've always been tech-curious and also had a basic NAS for DLNA, but it's only been a year since I went full selfhosting a homelab mode.
Through trial and error, and a lot of pain, I refined my setup using before and foremost what I had on hand and with a limited budget.
This is my current set up and an explanation of how it all works from hardware to software and also my backup policies. Please don't hesitate to tell what am I doing wrong and how I could improve it all. I will try to be as precise as possible, and I will also answer your questions in comments.
As for hardware, I have gathered through the years a lot of stuff that I repurposed for my current setup:
As you can see I have a mix of weird stuff going on. Maybe how I use them will give you a better image of the purpose.
This is my software situation :
Some of my choices will be obvious for you, and some are less, so let's explain it all.
My first error when I started last year, what the lack of reliability. I would set up Pihole and configure it accross my network on the router, but then if I had to do maintenance the whole system crumbled on me. So my first lesson really was to put two instances of Pihole on two separate bare-metal, and from there I needed to apply this to everything.
Before TP-link deco x50 added the possibility to configure an OpenVPN server on the router, i used to access everything through Cloudflared tunnels since my work PC doesn't allow me to install Wireguard client. Then i used Guacamole to RDP/SSH/VNC to any machine on my local network. But what would happen if the VM that hosted the cloudflared tunnel was down? No more remote access.
I would have to open a port on my router App and SSH using port 21 or something like a caveman. So at first, I opted for installing 2 cloudflared tunnels, and then I told myself what the hell and just put as many tunnels as needed so in the case or one or two machines down I would always have an "entry". For the record, i don't permanently set my domain in Cloudflare dashboard, but only if needed.
I didn't have the same problem on my phone since i could just install Wireguard client and access my local network from there. But there again, i created as many instance to cover any machine being down.
I manage local dns through Bind9 because i like the possibility to set wildcards which Pihole doesn't do to this day. Bind9 handles my local domain name and then forwards to pihole in order to blacklist ads and stuff. Is this efficient tho? I also needed to setup one Master instance and one slave instance to be redundant.
I use Nginx Proxy Manager as a reverse proxy even with Cloudflared tunnels. In Cloudflared I just forward "service.name.me" to "service.name.me" and thus i can access the same address from inside and outside, and if i'm inside i stay in the local network. At first I had one instance of Nginx PM to rule them all, but since i wanted to close all ports in my vms, I'm in the process of installing one instance of NPM in each VM/machine and let it handle the reverse proxying from there with no ports exposed (just the proxy ports, of course).
I backup all my Proxmox VMs to Proxmox Backup Server hosted in my NAS and using NAS storage. But since this is not a real backup if ever my server AND my NAS burn for some reason, I also use Duplicati.
I foremost use Duplicati to backup my secondary server since it's running bare-metal linux. I back up all my docker config files and any important set up I want to keep and send them to my NAS via SFTP.
I do exactly the same for docker VMs (even though they are already backed in Proxmox Backup Server), and also send them to my NAS via SFTP.
On my NAS, I set up Duplicati in order to send EVERYTHING to Google Drive. It's crypted, so i'm not worried (until proven otherwise). But EVERYTHING, i mean EVERYTHING :

Currently working through an connecting an EKS cluster to API Gateway via VPC Private Link. To accomplish this you need to provision an NLB to your services. The VPC Private Link only accepts NLBs as a connector.
We are accomplishing this in a single cluster with Nginx Ingress Controller to manage the NLB and routing.
The issue we are currently running into is that we use blue/green clusters for major version upgrades. Meaning that per environment/stage we have 2 EKS clusters, 2 points of ingress, etc. Traffic into these clusters is handled by Route53 DNS weights and allows us to shift traffic gradually, etc. So in order to link the blue/green clusters with API Gateway Private Link we need a single point of ingress.
We are considering going with: API Gateway -> NLB -> Nginx Reverse Proxy -> ALB/NLB Ingress -> EKS Cluster (blue/green)
We have looked into other options for this but are a bit stumped. We have used reverse proxies in the past for different systems, but have moved away from them for better or for worse. Another option is handling this with a Lambda as a proxy to rewrite the requests. Possibly handle weights as well.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have ideas on how to resolve? Thanks!

2024.05.15 17:29 C_X_3 [SPOILERS S3E16] What Jonas means to Phineas

I’m not a huge fan of Jonas reciprocating Phineas’ romantic feelings.
It feels like they EXPLICITLY established in Season 1 how incredibly young Phineas is, and by proxy, how young he must have BEEN when Jonas rescued him from the Delta. I think it’s been obvious the whole time that Phineas has had some romantic feelings for Spahr mixed in with the admiration/role model/father figure vibes, but it feels incredibly gross and inappropriate to me that Spahr would reciprocate those feelings for this kid that he rescued and nurtured and groomed into the perfect little Trustee since he was AT LEAST a teenager. I think it would’ve been much better if it was a one-sided thing on Phineas’ part—it makes total sense that he’d have feelings for this man he idolizes in every way possible, but the specific fact that he idolized him for so long(since he was a kid) is what makes the mutual romance so icky to me.
Like it could’ve just been the fatheson thing, or a combination of that and Phineas having feelings for him. This outcome doesn’t really sit right with me. I guess they never gave any specific dates on how old Phineas was when he got rescued? But I got the impression from context that he grew up in the Trust for a long time, and even if he was like just barely an adult when he was rescued from the Delta I still think Jonas having feelings for him too is just off.
Other than that, another one of the best episodes in the series. And even the Jonas/Phineas conversation was really good character-wise for both of them, but I was reading the obviously romantic framing as Phineas preparing to deal with HIS crush on Spahr, not like the climax of a romance arc between a superior and his subordinate. Did anyone else feel like this, or was it just me?

I wanted to create more proxies like this one, with the old-style font on the newer frame layout. I did that one my just bashing the layers together in photoshop, but that'd be kind of annoying to do for a bunch of proxies.
Is there a way I can tell cardconjurer to just use a different font?

All of the others are either mystical like sefira castle and don’t exist in the real world, or are actually real places and objects. Something interesting to explore in book 2 is how a god of a pathway benefits from having a purely physical sefirot like city of calamity. We know the cowardly trio benefits from sefira castle being incorporeal and above the spirit world specifically because they are able to make proxy bodies and leave their real one in the castle where no one can get to it, allowing them to be basically unkillable to anyone outside of their pathway group like Klein was in volume 8. I want to see how hunters or Demoness benefit from having a literal physical city as their sefira.

I want to set up a squid proxy on a specific vlan (home lab) and force all traffic within that vlan to go outbound to a squid proxy server. I've looked up the code to enable the proxy server. But it looks like I can only do a physical port...
I'm running FortiOS 6.2.16.

2024.05.15 17:02 CandyCrazy2000 AITA for camping and slugging my players after they made a mistake?

I (20m) was introducing my friends (19f, 20f, 20m, 21m) to DnD who had never played it before with a one shot-called "Death by Daybreak"
Basically the players are trapped with vecna and they have to finish a number of objectives to escape and "beat" vecna. Now obviously they are level 1 and have never played dnd before, i obviously massively reduced his power level since its more about showing them the general vibe of dnd than a specific experience.
So after getting everyone situated with some characters we began. I found my friend D (21m) first after he failed his stealth check and I could tell he wasn't happy about that. He lost all his health pretty quickly which made him more upset. According to the one-shot though I couldn't kill him right away which when he realized he cheered up a little. Instead the one-shot told me to put him on a meat hook so Vecna could complete a ritual to an eldritch god.
Because Vecna wanted to complete the ritual I had him stay nearby to possibly interupt anyone who tried to save him. D then muttered under his breath something about proxying. M (20f) and C (19f) had gotten closer in order to set up for a coordinated save but didnt have enough movement however C was able to stun Vecna with a wooden pallet. When it was my turn I casted a simple spell "Flight of the Damned" which summons spectral skeletons and I hit both of them reducing both of them to 0 hp. Again since the module says they can only die on the sacrificial hooks they were simply unconscious.
With this complete disaster from D's original mistake I decided to just go find and sacrifice J (20m) in order to finish the adventure quickly. Once i started to pack up my DM screen and dice, D started to yell at me that i was "Camping" and "Slugging" but I tried explaining that i was just capitalizing on his mistakes and its not my fault he rolled badly but he just stormed out. AITA?

Hello fellow undead robots!
I have a small group of friends that I play warhammer with, mostly Combat Patrol until now but some of us have expanded our armies a bit and we can do around 1000 point games now. The problem is, until now I haven't won any game of combat patrol against them, and I would like to turn the situation around when the play the full fledged game. Not saying I need to dominate them but a bit more back and forth and more suspense in the game would be amazing.
I need to clarify it's not necessarily that I think the combat patrol is bad, more that I'm the weak link, and I hope to become a bit more tactical in my play.
Here is my current list of units with some still in transit but should be with me and assembled before our next game day:
-Orikan the Diviner -Overlord with tachyon arrow -Plasmancer -Royal Warden -Skorpekh Lord -Immortals x 5 with Tesla Carbines -Warriors x 10 with 5 of each weapon -Canoptek Doomstalker -Canoptek Reanimator -3x Canoptek Scarab Swam -2x CryptoThralls -2x Lokhust Heavy Destroyers with one weapon each -3x Skorpekh Destroyers
It's basically the combat patrol box, LHVs and Immortals I bought at a con for a bit of a discount, and I ordered the royal court and a royal warden from the official GW website as they were not available at any of the resellers in my country and there's basically no second hand market for Warhammer where I live either so that was the only way of getting a plasmancer, which I personally am a fan of and wanted in my unit.
Since we're playing amongst friends proxying from one type of weapon to another for the immortals, warriors or LHVs won't be a problem since I'll just tell them at the start.
What would be the best way to attach units here and general tips and tricks for playing a Necron army? My friends mainly play Tyranids and Orks, and may have another friend that is thinking of starting a Chaos Demons army.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, including what else I could buy to be viable in the future working towards a 2000p army.

So Russia fighting easy war of thrashing Ukrainians has now lost its utility and is waste of time Russia needs to go for real enemy and be ready for tough war with NATO by making NATO nations know that proxy is now new direct war when comes to Ukraine. How can you win with an enemy irrespective of however powerful you are if you are the one sweating and wearing out slowly every day and you are the only one putting yourself on risk all the time while you allowing your enemy to hit you without that enemy NATO nations having consequences and you instead hit someone else like Ukrainians and let that enemy NATO sit in the beach drinking lemonade and feeling safe that they killed few more Russians ???? Russian strategy of shying away from confronting NATO and just praying for peace by anyone in NATO thinking about people or world is a delusion that could prove fatal for Russia. NATO is playing systematic good cop bad cop so even if when NATO nation says we do not support this kind of attack on Russia they are fully attacking Russia because their accomplice is escalating and using that fake de escalation from other nations to get away from consequences of doing act of creating panic and stretching Russia which will wear down Russia one day. Anyone know where I can purchase good Sister's of Silence Proxies?
I'm also completely down to kitbash my sister's models, but honestly, if I'm straying from the default armor, I want it to represent canonical units that we don't have models for (specifically like Excruciatus, Pursuers, or Assault Squads as shown above)
If anyone knows if any models that look pretty close to any of these, please link them to me!
And if you have any ideas of kitbashing, I'm all ears! I'm hesitant to use Sororitas models because they have such a distinct armor and silhouette that I feel like it'd take away from them being SOS. But I'm still keeping an open mind.

2024 Top Ten Portfolio vs. The Alongside Crypto Market Index Token (AMKT)

The first Top Ten Crypto Experiment was started on 1 January 2018 in an attempt to capture the gains of the entire market, similar to the “lazy” approach of the Bogleheads in traditional markets. Much has changed over the last six years, including the introduction of index products designed to capture the entire crypto market (instead of manually buying coins and tokens like I do for my Experiments).
Like last year, I’m running a friendly competition between The 2024 Top Ten Portfolio and The Alongside Crypto Market Index Token (AMKT). AMKT is an ERC-20 token that represents a cap weighted index of 15 Cryptocurrencies (minus stablecoins) backed 1:1 by the underlying assets represented within the index and completely onchain. Similar to the Boglehead Community, a Do Nothing Club has emerged encouraging a long-term “lazy” crypto investing approach. Since the index represents approximately 95% of the value within crypto, AMKT is an excellent proxy for the entire cryptocurrency market – exactly what my Top Ten Portfolios have been trying to recreate from the start.
To mirror traditional index fund products, AMKT is also currently providing a 5% APR match, essentially creating its own dividend.
Here’s the question I’ll be tracking this year: would I have been better off with $1,000 of AMKT instead of going through the effort of creating a homemade $1,000 Top Ten Index Fund?

So, where do we stand if we combine seven years of the Top Ten Crypto Index Fund Experiments?

In summary: That’s a +200% gain by investing $1k on whichever cryptos happened to be in the Top Ten on January 1st (including stablecoins) for seven straight years.

Comparison to S&P 500

I’m also tracking the S&P 500 as part of my Experiment to have a comparison point to traditional markets.

The S&P 500 is up +5% so far in 2024, so the initial $1k investment into crypto on New Year’s Day would be worth $1,050 had it been redirected to the S&P.
Taking the same invest-$1,000-on-January-1st-of-each-year approach with the S&P 500 that I’ve been documenting through the Top Ten Crypto Experiments, the yields are the following:
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2018 = $1,880 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2019 = $2,000 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2020 = $1,550 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2021 = $1,340 today

Maverick Springs is adjacent to the Carlin Trend. For the uninitiated, the area contains several of the largest gold mines on Earth. The area includes a number of the largest gold mines on Earth. Maverick Springs is a blind deposit comprising a 30-120 metre thick, flat-lying zone centred on an anticlinal structure with oxidation pervasive to 120 metres and intermittent to 270 metres. (5)
West Whistler property is in the same area as Maverick, closer to the Battle Mountain Trend, alongside Carlin: Near several gold deposits, including the Cortez Mine, North America’s third largest gold mine with 2021 gold production of 828,000 ounces.
Finally, the Clover Property, 16 km west of the massive Hecla Mine in the Northern Nevada Rift. The property sits at the top and centre of the Carlin and Battle Mountain Trends.
Nevada Gold’s active Turquoise Ridge Mine, the third largest gold mine in the United States with 537,000 ounces of gold production reported in 2020, as well as the Twin Creeks open pit mines and the dormant Pinson and Getchell mines.

Cardero Mine
As mentioned, these three companies are similar in that they have what appear to be skookum properties. They are also all great gold proxies, and they all trade for under CDN1.00. Cheekily, I may have said that investors can own all three companies for under CDN 2.00 a share.
While I like the companies, I would buy them for their land positions. All have land that isn’t some dust pit but has either historical or proven assays. And most are near large producers. Element79; Nevada.Carlin Trend? Seriously?

Got really into warhammer and painting minis in the last couple of months and to practice painting minis I have driven 1.5 hours each way for the free mini of the month the last two months. Recently stumbled upon resin printers and have the opportunity to buy a like new open box mars 3 pro for 130 dollars. A friend of mine told me that it’s hard to learn, messy, expensive, the fumes are toxic, and I probably won’t get my moneys worth as opposed to buying minis.
I would mainly be using this to print warhammer proxy kill teams and other online models to practice my painting. Is my friend right that this is a mistake or can a beginner learn relatively quickly?

2024.05.15 16:07 CrackheadInThe414 I upgraded my graphics card to a Geforce RTX 3060 and now DR crashes at 100% when opening a project

Hey everyone, I am working on a few projects and learning DR as I do. My computer has been chugging with viewing some intense footage files because my old graphics card was outdated (4GB) and a cheap man's gfx card. I initially just made some proxies and it worked out in the meantime while I was waiting for an order of a new GFX card to ship to me.
I have since gotten the new card and installed it. My computer has booted up fine and I have seen no other issues aside from this one. The only thing that makes me slightly nervous is that maybe its my PSU since the card was rated for 550W and my PSU outputs at 450W. However, PCPartsPicker showed that my PSU should be able to handle the card regardless and is handling the card all things considered.
I just tried reinstalling Resolve this morning. I updated my drivers, I am running Resolve in administrative mode. I have tried changing the priority to High. (altho it resets after every time I relaunch the software :/ )
I have gotten it to launch a project once but since then it has not worked. The software crashes with every project I try to open as well. I am not entirely sure what the problem is.
Is there somewhere I can find a crash report to review and share with any of you to help diagnose this problem further? Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m a long time Thousand Sons player and I’ve been itching for an Imperium Army for awhile - I tried Admech and didn’t really dig it all that much, but I’ve recently acquired about 2k points worth of Deathwatch off a buddy. I’m incredibly excited for the DW detachment rules and the fundamentally different play style than I’m used to, but I’m a little downtrodden on some of the recent “doom” posts I’ve seen. I know a lot of it is just rumors, but hypothetically if the Watch got squatted or rolled into another codex, do yall have any recommendations on how to “de-convert” the minis to a more traditional space marine faction? That or maybe potential proxies that DW Vets could be run as. My original thought was Black Templars due to their increased use of melee forces maybe working with our hammers, but I’m really not too sure.
TLDR: I got 2k worth of Deathwatch and am worried about the recent doom and gloom, wondering if there’s another Space Marine faction that might easily allow for the watch to be converted into (if need be).

2024.05.15 15:00 Huiuuuu Setting Resolve The right way for a new Film Project

Hello guys!
Premiere / Avid editor here. I decided to throw my self in resolve to learn it so i will edit a new short film i got in my hands. It's 4k Braw footage. I already imported it and made proxies DNxHr LB 1080p. Gonna import some metadata for scene and take to each clip and start syncing the external audio files.
Got questions for best workflow practice.
  1. Should i mess with color space etc. I will do only the edit and i will send it then to a colorist but i would like to watch the footage at rec 709 video color space and not in raw. Should i put an input lut or what is the best practice in this situation.
  2. Whats the best way to sync multichannel audio in resolve. I remember that linking audio worked just fine.
  3. Do you have any workflow suggestions, should i be careful with or do i miss something ;
  4. is there any workspace tutorial specific to workflow for feature / short films and documentaries that you suggest?

I have a web server on my local network, I can access it from anywhere externally but not internally. Why is it that when using my domain name requests from my internal network can't go out of the wan, back into the wan and then hit my proxy to be routed, is there some logic where I can allow this behavior? I have seen nat hairpin but I don't really understand it or follow the setup and I really have no need for local hosts to stay inside my network I am fine with them going out to the internet and back in. Thank you all for any advice I have been pulling my hair out on this one.
