A month or so ago I busted my phone, and it was a huge pain in the ass. Aside from some lost data which was minor, the biggest PIA was resetting MFA, getting in touch with my US banks, and any other services that were tied to my phone. The experience also made me take a step back and realize I am pretty lax with security, and if someone had gotten hold of my phone and somehow god-forbid gotten the passcode, then I'd be fucked. They could do so much damage with unlimited access to my email + MFA SMS, even in just a few hours.
As a result, I kind of went down the ADHD rabbit hole hyper-fixating on how best to "optimize" my iPhone and iCloud configuration for two things:

1. If it breaks, the transition to a new device will be relatively painless. I won't have to spend several days stressing and trying to find the right international customer support number for a myriad of institutions and services to get into my accounts.
   
2. If it gets stolen and compromised, then there will be enough barriers such that the I'll have enough time to lock down the device and/or my accounts remotely before the thief can get key data or move funds.
   

So I put together this guide and checklist that I thought I'd share with others. I am a programmer but by no means a security guru, and so if any IT, DevOps, or SecOps folks want to chime-in with suggestions or improvements, please do.

Requirements

• an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone 14 or newer for eSIM compatibility.
• a US-based carrier with eSIM support + a pay-as-you-go model for international travel (I use Verizon)
• iOS 17 or above (may not be strictly necessary, but I know my setup works with iOS 17.4.1)
• a password manager. I personally use 1Password because it works, is reliable, has cross-device support, and is easy and intuitive. It's also only $3/month.

Dual Sim Setup

I have been rocking an iPhone 12 for the past few years, and it's served me very well. I know the newer iPhones (14 and up) no longer offer physical SIM card support, but carriers in most developing countries are behind the curve. Even if they offer eSIM support, it's been my experience that it's a major headache to get setup, there is a lack of customer support in English, and they may even require a local ID to register the eSIM. It's way easier to just head to a shop and pay $5 for a SIM card, load some funds onto it, and then you're good to go.
The eSIM has been very helpful for maintaining a US phone number for which I can receive SMS texts from my banks and other financial services as well as continue to use iMessage with all my US contacts since hardly anybody is on Whatsapp.
Most, if not all, carriers in the US support eSIMs now, and so you should try to find a carrier that offers an international pay-as-you-go plan. Verizon offers two international plans - one is a "Travel Pass" where it's a flat fee of $10/day anywhere outside the US or Canada (even for just one text message). The other is "pay for what you use" which has a rate per text, minute, and mb. For my US plan, I only care about receiving SMS texts from my banks and the occasional phone call to a service that doesn't have an international, toll-free number. Data will always be cheaper outside the US, so I disable cellular data switching for my US line.
The last time I was in the US was for the holidays and I bought 2 used iPhone 12's for about $200 each. They have some scuffs, but they're perfectly serviceable. In LATAM, it also doesn't attract nearly as much unwanted attention in the street as an iPhone 14 or 15.
I brought these with me as extra devices. When my phone busted last month, thankfully I had a backup in iCloud and everything was loaded in a few minutes as normal. This was before I was using the eSIM, but if I had the eSIM I could just go to Verizon support online via chat and they could help me switch the line to the new device easily.

Basic Configurations

• Always use the latest version of firmware
• Require a passcode that's unique to that device.
• Use FaceID instead of passcode when possible (a thief can't snipe your passcode from a distance if you unlock your phone with FaceID)
• Set auto-lock to 30 seconds (lowest possible)
• Erase data upon excessive passcode failures note, this is complemented in a later step with daily backups. The odds of you putting in the wrong passcode 10 times is low, but in the event you do and you wipe the device by accident, you should be able to easily load in a back-up from the previous day)
• Turn off "Ask to Join Networks"
• Forget unused networks so that you don't rejoin automatically (airports, hotels, etc.)

Creating Backups

• Set iCloud backups to run automatically every night. This will allow you to load your entire phone as is (contacts, call history, iMessages, apps, even your wallpaper) onto another device during setup. The iCloud backup usually runs at 2am while I'm sleeping.
• You may need to pay for a higher tier in iCloud if you have too much stored on your phone. It's $3/month for 200gb of iCloud storage, and I find it worth it. Though I know some people with tens of thousands of photos for which 200gb might not be enough.

Password Policy

• For any accounts that may contain sensitive data (payments, PII, etc), always generate a unique password with 1Password. Don't reuse passwords. Same goes for PIN codes.
• For core accounts, create a strong but memorable password and then memorize it. The odds of getting locked out of 1Password are low if you're diligent, but for 2 or 3 core accounts (where you access money, your primary recovery email, your iCloud, 1Password), it's worth it to create strong, unique passwords for each core service and memorize them.
• I try not to reuse passwords in general, but I still sometimes am lazy and use one of my handful of typical passwords if there's no sensitive data collected by the service and it's a service I don't use often.

MFA

Set up MFA with everything. Add multiple options if possible. My preferred MFA options are as follows:

1. One-time code that renews every 30 seconds. This is device agnostic and can be stored in 1Password. You could also use Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy or similar, but there's just more overhead to now recover those accounts if your device becomes inaccessible.
2. One-time code to recovery email.
3. One-time code via SMS to my US phone number. On the pay-as-you-go Verizon plan, I only pay 5 cents per text message received. It's worth it to keep one consistent number.
4. List of recovery codes (stored in 1Password as an attached txt file for the given account)
5. Use another app for verification (Google does this a lot).

Lockdown your iCloud security

• Enable MFA.
• Create a strong, unique password.
• Remove any old or unused devices from the iCloud account (old phones, ipods, etc).
• Enable "Find My" for all of your devices.
• In Find My, configure all devices to send the last known location.
• In Find My, enable the configuration to remotely wipe a device.

In the event your phone is stolen, the idea is you could run back to any of your devices or even use a friend's device to log into iCloud on the web, go to Find My, and then in a single button click you can lock and wipe the stolen device. If the thief turned off the device or disabled wifi/cellular, then as soon as it comes back online it will be wiped.

Final Clean-Up

• Move any compromising photos to the "hidden" folder (which requires FaceID or passcode to unlock)
• Review the Files app for any documents containing sensitive info. If you need these documents to be accessible on mobile, then move them to 1Password and delete them from the Files app.
• Create a shortcut to trigger the lock screen (and thus require FaceID or passcode) when specific apps are opened (banking, email, photos, etc).
• Not sure if this is best practice, but I just keep everything in 1P and turn off apple keychain and the apple built-in password manager. I also don't save passwords in Chrome or Safari.

Extra tips

These aren't really iPhone tips but general tips. They are probably obvious to you if you aren't as scatterbrained as me, but I figured that I'd drop them here in case they help someone.

• Add thorough security measures to iCloud, primary email, and any banking or financial services. Review each account and make sure you have a strong, unique password as well as a unique PIN, MFA configured, login alerts, recovery codes, and an international, 24-hour toll-free phone number stored somewhere to contact the service in the event of a crisis. For banking services, add withdrawal limits, regional restrictions (if you bounce between the same few countries), and SMS notifications for charges over a certain threshold. Open up a second checking account with a separate debit card for trips to the ATM.
• Consolidate and close any unused bank accounts. I realized that on my phone I had Revolut, Venmo, Paypal, Nequi, plus 4 US banking institutions. I took this time to close my Discover account (which is pretty much useless outside the US anyway), close my Revolut account since I'm hardly ever in the UK/EU, and consolidate investment accounts from different institutions into just a handful that's easier to monitor.

I made one other post on here in regards to my husband but would like insight on some things so little by little will probably post different scenarios to get outsiders insight on situations.
Okay, sorry if this is all over the place but I want some insight from others not involved in the situation whatsoever. Feel free to ask for any clarity etc.
I (29F) and my husband (36M) have 2 kids. To protect their privacy I would prefer not to share details but I will share vague info. They are elementary aged. I put off my own schooling to focus on getting our kids established and we do virtual homeschooling. My husband has never been able to hold down a job due to a few health things (anxiety that he uses medication for, and a few years in he got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and EOE but he doesn't stay on top of his own care). We live with my mom. He has lived with me under my moms roof for what would have been 12 years later this year.
Here is where I am asking for insight.
My mom witnessed him becoming more and more emotionally and verbally abusive. She sent him to his grandmas March 1st. My brother and I drove him down and we slept there and drove home the next day. He has been down there since. So 2 months. It was originally supposed to be around 2 weeks but then they asked about him staying another week. He was supposed to call my mom and they were supposed to talk about him coming back home. The one phone call they had he was making an excuse for why he yelled at me on the phone since he'd even been down there and then all he cared to talk about was his doctor(nurse practitioner) not sending his medicine, his insurance issues and all about his medicines. He is addicted to prescription drugs as well. If more info is needed I can elaborate but trying to keep this as short as possible but with enough details. He has also told us to go file divorce papers(I have never indicated separation, this was simply my mom wanting him to appreciate us and treat us better which it seems he is a narcissist and incapable of loving anyone but himself), custody, coparenting etc. So in his mind his is flipping it into US needing to work on our marriage instead of HIM working on how he treats me and our children.
He has barely talked to our kids. In the beginning I kept complaining about his lack of talking to them, then he would only try to call late at night. As I mentioned, they are school aged. I'm talking like 9:00pm or later he wanted to talk to them. Like I said, he didn't work and was aware of them having early mornings so this irked me. I told him he needed to stop putting us all off until the end of the day and it was completely rude and disrespectful to our kids time. He said he's busy and calls when he can.... I told him that's unacceptable and he needs to carve out a little time earlier in the day for them. I told him not to call after 8:00pm, which is still late quite frankly but better than 9 or 10. He has talked to them less than 10 times(don't know the exact amount so being generous with an estimation) I can look at my call log if necessary and try to weed out when he actually talked with THEM. Anywho, there was one Thursday night when he was supposed to call and I gave him a time and said no video chatting(he always tries to force me to be involved and I was busy and didn't want a camera being shoved in my face). He asked why not. I explained it wasn't a good night. He asked if he could video chat them Friday instead because he had things he wanted to show them. I made sure I was clear on what he meant and asked if he meant NOT talk to them "tonight" in order to videochat "tomorrow"? (this happened in the past hence the "") He said yes. He had not talked to them in 2 weeks at that point. So I was mad that he didn't ask if he could talk to them tonight but videochat them tomorrow as well....but then he said he was busy anyway so that would work better.....okay. Friday comes. He CALLS them. He was SO distracted on the phone and BARELY talked to them. He mentioned his brother had reached out about hanging out so I am thinking he was texting him while on the phone with them, but I don't know. I told our older child he was supposed to videochat so they mentioned it to him and he took a few minutes to send the link(iphone to android videochat) our child texted because it was taking so long. He finally sent the link and they were videochatting. He wasn't trying to show them anything. I mentioned he was supposed to show them stuff. He mentioned a coloring book and they had to ASK to see it. Then they ASKED about grannys dog so he showed them the dog. I gave them a time limit but gave wiggle room for the sake of our kids. I realized the chatting was going nowhere because he just wasn't interested in talking to them. Our older child mentions needing to go, then he says something like the child hadn't said they needed to go, in order to make it look like he "cared" like, "oh mommy said a time but I don't remember what it was so we probably need to go" they were over 10 minutes past, and I knew it but again I gave wiggle room for the kids. I chewed him out in a text and he admitted I was right and he was distracted and gave 348724985 excuses for what happened that day as to why he was distracted but I didn't want to hear any of it.
My kids very rarely bring him up. I ask them here and there how they are feeling about things and they are both sad but one of our kids even said that daddy was mean sometimes. That crushed me. I didn't know they felt that way. I didn't realize how bad things had gotten. I know what I went through and dealt with, but I was so blind to how he was doing them. I feel awful. And it came from the kid I would least expect it to come from cuz he seemed to give them more attention. I don't think the kids have asked to call him a single time. If they did I would absolutely not stop them, I'm not keeping them from talking to him. I am however setting boundaries on his side of things because he has no respect for our kids and their time. While he was on the phone with them he even brought up having issues with his doctor(NP) and meds. He talked to them for maybe around 30 minutes, most of which was the kids trying to talk and him saying.....uh......what? and telling one kid he was proud of them, they asked what for, he said......uh.....you're getting so big.
Side note; he mentioned I always have to say "something" (I am calling him out on his crap and not allowing him to use excuses anymore) and if I can't be peaceful we can't coparent. He informed me via TEXT April 17th that he now LIVED there. Has been so uninvolved already but ESPECIALLY now). I told him he has NO right to tell me how to COPARENT when he can't even PARENT to begin with and told him to ask HIMSELF a few questions and if he couldn't answer them he needs to reevaluate how good of a parent he is before trying to come at me for how I am PARENTING. I DO IT ALL. Anyways, like I said, we virtual homeschool and he was "involved" enough to know basics. So one of the questions was what grade both kids are in. He responded with his answers. He was wrong on both. Couldn't tell me what clothing size one was and was wrong on shoe size for both as well. He did get one of the kids teacher and speech therapist right but the teacher is a repeat from our older student and the speech therapist has been with us since the beginning so I knew he should know at least THAT one. I'm wondering if he googled what size one may be in because he mentioned a size not common to all stores but I do give him credit for answering what he did correctly. Its the ones that are incorrect though that are of issue. And I didn't correct him. He wasn't supposed to send me answers. I said to ask himself. He was just to cocky thinking he was really getting himself a "gotcha" moment. It makes me sad. I did tell my kids not to answer any questions if they videochatted(which I admit I didn't like doing, but with all circumstances I don't want him using them to answer questions making it seem like he knows more than he truly does) I told my older child what grade he thought they were in and they pointed out, "I was in ---grade when he left....." But we kinda laughed about how stupid/silly/dorkish it was and I am NOT trying to make him look bad. I shield our kids from a lot because I don't want their opinions of anyone swayed any way due to something someone else says. Same goes for their dad. Regardless of how I feel about him and the way he's done I don't want them holding things against him and distancing themselves due to things that don't need to divulged to them to begin with.
I'm sorry this was a lot, and it's probably all over the place and a mess.. I just need insight or opinions from someone that isn't involved or related to either of us so opinions won't be swayed. If any more info is needed in regards to myself or my husband feel free to ask.
I will also be moving forward with my schooling possibly this year or next depending. I wanted both of our kids established and while I'm not sure I'm quite ready because my younger student still requires more help and needs improvement with reading for me to be fully comfortable I may be able to start online courses in the meantime if able to do so before doing in person things eventually. My husband was no help with the kids and when he sat in or did attempt he had ZERO patience and was awful. So I limited what I would ask him to help with and did all the "heavy lifting" myself. We are all doing much better mentally and our younger child is unlearning some behaviors and is a completely different kid. They are coming out of their shell and while they've always been loving now they are even more sweet and loving and involved with others. I have seen so much improvement. And their dad has not mentioned talking to them SINCE that friday which was May 3rd, so it has been 10 days at this point.

I’m typing this on my phone because I’m too scared to use my laptop. I threw it into the back of my closet and covered it with clothes to try to dampen the high-pitched ringing sound it keeps emitting, but I can still faintly hear it from where I’m sitting in the living room. I tried shutting it down – it wouldn’t turn off. Doesn’t restart either. I closed the screen but that didn’t do anything. Tried to let the battery die and once it hit 0%, it stayed on as if it were fully charged. This thing can’t be turned off. I’m sure this all sounds silly and nobody is going to believe me, but there is something wrong with my laptop.
The easiest option would be to just get rid of it but I’m tight on cash and my job requires a laptop. I’m a marketing assistant at a small creative agency. It’s not the most glamorous job, I mostly fill out grids and review decks but it took me nearly a year to find this position. It’s completely remote which is a plus, the benefits are decent, and the pay is low but it’s something.
I was hired about a month ago. I hadn’t bought a laptop since 2017 and I wore out my last one so badly it basically refused to hold a charge and had to be plugged in all the time. I thought it made sense to get a new one – a new job, a fresh laptop, the beginning of a new career era. All the new Apple models are insanely overpriced, well above my price range. I could buy a new one in a few months after I save up a bit, but I needed something asap.
I browsed the internet and found a used electronics site. They refurbish phones and laptops and resell them at an affordable price – perfect. I found a 2022 Mac, placed the order, and it was delivered less than a day later. I actually think there were only three hours between purchasing the laptop and it showing up on my doorstep.
Excited to get it set up, I ripped open the box and sitting atop the neatly packaged laptop was a jet black business card with small white lettering in an odd font choice.

Ignoring the card, I threw it away and dug into the laptop. Beautifully dark brushed metal, no trace of fingerprints anywhere. It looked almost new save for a couple of scratches on the underside. I plugged it in, turned it on, made a new user profile, and clicked through the setup guide. The setup screen faded away and the preloaded wallpaper appeared. It didn’t really look like the typical Apple wallpapers that we’re all familiar with. Not Big Sur or the Sierra Nevada’s. It was a landscape photo of a farmhouse sitting in a field of tall yellowing grass, a single oak tree bending its awkward limbs over the decaying porch. There was some dark beauty to it. The sunset behind the farmhouse cast bands of golden light on the grass making it appear as if it were shimmering. Maybe it was taken on the East Coast? Some farm in New England? Didn’t really matter to me. I had a new laptop and it was working perfectly. I gave my ancient 2017 one a quick eulogy and tossed it.

The first time I noticed something was the next day. I was sitting at my desk going over my bosses notes on a deck for some toothpaste commercial when I minimized my Chrome window and saw something I hadn’t noticed before. On the front porch of the farmhouse was a figure sitting in a rocking chair. I brought my face closer to the screen to try to make out any details but the farmhouse was so far in the distance, the scale of the figure was smaller than the cursor. It was so tiny I guess I just hadn’t noticed the day before. It’s not like anyone really stares at their computer wallpaper. The figure had a pale white face and was draped in some sort of black cloak but again it was so tiny I was basically making guesses. I shrugged it off and went back to Outlook to keep working – I had a deadline to meet.
My bedroom darkened as evening fell, the only source of light being the blue glow of my laptop. I uploaded the deck and sent a note back to Marie to let her know I was finished. I’d gotten so caught up in the day that I had forgotten about the figure in the rocking chair. I went back to the wallpaper and studied the landscape again before deciding to just change it to another preloaded one. Something less spooky. I chose a sunrise off a blue coastline.
I love watching Netflix in bed as I fall asleep, so that night I got comfortable and logged in on my laptop to put some Arrested Development on. I must’ve been exhausted because I fell asleep almost immediately. I always just end up sleeping with my laptop either next to me on my comforter or on my nightstand and let the episodes keep going until Netflix realizes I’m no longer watching. I guess that must've happened, but at around 3:00a I bolted awake to a screeching ringing tone coming from my laptop. It was ear piercingly loud, almost at an unbelievable volume for a laptop. Gone was Arrested Development, the laptop screen was static white like an old VHS tv, illuminating my otherwise pitch black bedroom in a cloudy light. I scrambled to turn the volume down, afraid my neighbors would come banging on my front door, but the sound stopped as quickly as it had begun. The screen went dark, the room went dark, the night got quiet.
I sat and stared bewildered in a drowsy daze at my laptop, the quiet hum of cicadas in the night outside, when suddenly it felt as if I were being watched…. I could barely see my own hand in front of me. The night seemed darker than usual…I slowly turned over my shoulder to the open door of my bedroom and in the darkness I could just make out the faint silhouette of a hunched figure standing right outside the doorway. Staring right at me. My blood chilled, I froze. I fumbled for the lamp on my nightstand and turned it on. Warm light extinguished the blackness. Nothing in the doorway…just the long stretch of hallway to the living room. It felt kind of similar to that movie that came out last year, Skinamarink. You sit in the darkness of your bedroom long enough that suddenly you start seeing things in the inky black. I thought it was nothing, but I swear I could make out the faintest trace of a pale white face grinning at me.
The next day I’m back to work as usual, tired from the night before. I clicked out of Chrome to my desktop to open up Adobe when I noticed the farmhouse wallpaper was back… It had changed by itself. It wasn’t exactly the one from yesterday though, no, the figure wasn’t in the rocking chair anymore. Instead, the figure had moved off the porch and was now standing in the field, closer to where the photographer would be. I could really make it out now. A pale white grinning face with distended lips, rotting teeth. That wasn’t the worst part though. Where its eyes should be were instead empty pockets of nothing. Just completely grotesque, definitely not a fucking preloaded wallpaper for a laptop. I changed it back to the beach and dug around in my trash can for the refurbishment card that came with the package. I wasn’t going to wait around to see what happened. Maybe one of the tech guys there was playing a trick and had programmed some jump scares into the computer or something? Maybe that’s something they do. Similar to jailbreaking an iPhone or pretending to control someone's computer remotely. I don’t know.
I found the card and dialed the number. It rang once before a young woman with a pleasant voice picked up.
- “Hi, Hanter’s Refurbishments! How may I help you?”
-- “Um hey I recently ordered a laptop. It came the other day and setup was normal but there’s something going on with the wallpaper. I changed it but then it changed back by itself and the photo –.”
- “One moment let me place you on a brief hold. Thank you!”
I hadn’t even finished speaking when she cut me off and put me on hold. Hold music began playing, some upbeat jingle shrill enough to drive anyone insane. I sat on hold for twenty minutes, then an hour. I ended the call and tried again, went through the same motions with the same woman only to continuously be placed on hold. Maybe they were really backed up with calls and other people experiencing issues with their orders. I called again and instead of the woman answering, an automated voice greeted me and sent me to hold immediately. Fuck it. I decided to wait it out. The fucking jingle was boring a hole into my head – the most annoyingly enthusiastic hold music. I could’ve strangled someone.
Suddenly the music stopped. Finally, someone was becoming available to help me. But instead of the call being redirected to a person, the automated voice returned with a simple
“Goodbye!”
And the call dropped.
I screamed, I literally screamed out of agony, out of pure fucking frustration.
I turned back to my laptop. The wallpaper changed itself again, back to the farmhouse and the pale faced thing. It moved in the field again. It was getting closer. Gaping holes for eyes, distended lips wet with saliva. It looked like it was laughing at my misery.
I left my laptop closed on my desk that night. No Netflix tonight, I needed to sleep and didn’t want the computer near me. I scrolled on TikTok for a bit before I dozed off…
The jingle woke me.
The fucking hold music. I picked up my phone in my fatigue thinking maybe Hanter’s was calling me back. It wasn’t coming from my phone. It was coming from my closed laptop.
I looked to the doorway, thinking the figure from the night before would be back, before getting out of bed and crossing to my laptop to shut it off. I opened the laptop and a wave of nausea crashed over me. The pale faced thing was even closer. The farmhouse was barely visible now, its face nearly filling the entire screen. Still grinning, still laughing. Bits of red stuff wedged in its teeth.
No matter how many times I held the power button, nothing was happening. It wasn’t shutting down, the jingle wasn’t stopping.
I fucking cracked. At that point I didn’t give a fuck if I needed the laptop for work. I picked it up and smashed it on the floor. Threw it again and again till the screen was shattered and keys were flying off. I just needed the jingle to stop and the pale face to be gone. I threw it down one last time with a final blow, satisfied with the damage I’d caused.
I picked the laptop up thinking it would be dead, but the screen was still glowing with light. Through the splintered glass of the screen I could see the farmhouse, the field of yellowing grass, the rocking chair, the oak tree – everything was there except for the pale faced thing. As if my havoc had caused it to flee the wallpaper.
The screen flickered off. The room went black. The cicadas outside filled the silence.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up.
It felt as if I were being watched.

I'm desperate now, I've had an iPhone 15 Pro for 3 weeks and I can't switch whatsapp from my Xiaomi to my iPhone
First I tried the official method with "Move To iOS" app and it didn't work, while my Xiaomi transferred data when it went wrong, I tried again several times but nothing
At this point I decided to use one of those programs that you pay to transfer my chats but I had to make a local backup, obviously I can't because every time I start the WhatsApp backup, The backup goes to Gdrive
It's absurd how I can't disconnect my Google account from WhatsApp, I also deleted the backup file that was on the 15gb Gdrive, But of course when I tried to do it again on WhatsApp it started creating it on gdrive again
I set the backup frequency to "never" and tried again and it doesn't want to start the backup, I checked the folders and there is no chat backup
Now I'm desperate, I can't even use a third party app if it doesn't back up locally, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Are there any third-party apps that directly transfer chats without using backup files but somehow taking the app's own files?
Or a method to be able to perform the local backup damage or does anyone know why it keeps stopping during the transfer from the official app?

I’m sorry if this is not the right place for this, but I recently upgraded from and iPhone 11 to and iPhone 14 and everything with the transfer went fine, but since using my new phone I no longer get notifications from my yahoo mail app about emails. If I go into the app, all my new emails pop up at one time and when exiting the app the red bubble with how many unread emails I have shows up, but that’s only after I open the app. It sends me no notifications and does not put the red bubble on the app icon unless I open the app. I checked and I have notifications turned on for yahoo mail both through my iPhone settings and the settings on the yahoo mail app, so I’m at a loss for what to do next. Just picked up the small 2022 version to give a test run. Everyone I know says how much me (being a tech fiend) would prefer as I’ve always loved physical books. Couple questions:

1. What is kindle unlimited vs non unlimited? Is it like a streaming service setup where just some books are included (like set up with the publishing companies), and some aren’t? Haven’t been able to find a distinction
   
2. HOW THE HELL do I adequately search for audio books and see which ones are in the unlimited section while searching for specific genres?! The app interface is almost impossible to decipher (on my iPhone and on kindle), I’m a little lost on how to navigate
   
3. Any advice for the audiobook listener’s on how you choose which to listen and which book to read? I’ve been against audiobooks (for no real reason) but I’d love to start listening to the books “id eventually get around to” while reading my priority list but now I have analysis paralysis on which to choose haha.

• What can we say about the market scenario right now, going into a very important CPI week?
• Liquidity is high in the market, and is showing very little signs of stress right now. Traders remain long the market, and are short on volatility. This is ensuring that pullbacks get bought as liquidity is high.
• Right now, we see very little cause for much concern. I had the question recently about some speculation from some X users saying they are seeing put gamma building in the option chain to suggest there are signs of a downturn coming. This is not the correct interpretation of the put gamma we see. This whole rally up, since November, and especially around the time of Israel Iran scenario, we have seen put gamma remain on the option chain because traders have been trying to call an eventual pullback. Trying to get ahead of it, thinking that the market is overextended. To be honest, yes, the market has had a crazy run. But these people trying to get ahead of the pullback, has just caused more squeeze higher as data and market moves haven’t followed. E.g. If CPI comes soft this week, all of this put gamma will have to be closed or will expire worthless, which means that it will fuel a more extreme push higher. This will probably move us to ATH soon. This is the type of scenario that has got us to near 5300 on SPX. So the put gamma is nothing o be looked into in terms of bearish signal.
• Skew for MAG7 stocks remains at ATH. Default Swaps remain very low. Right now we are not seeing positioning for a market ready for a sustained pullback, but in fact are showing signs of a market ready for new ATH.
• If we see a pullback from CPI coming hot, it likely will not last unless it is extremely hot. This is because Powell has already mentioned that there is basically no chance of another hike. Traders remain very short vol. If CPI comes hot, its probable we see a short term spike in VIX, and a jump in dollar, but then the VIX spike will get faded as traders sell into the volatility, which will trigger a buy the dip.
• Right now traders are hedging, but are not positioned for a sustained pullback. Skew is elevated but pointing downwards. This means traders are overall bullish but are seeing short term risks Skew on short term is pointing lower but on 3m points to new highs. Traders may see potential a short term dip from CPI, but for it to not disrupt the bullishness of the market beyond the ver immediate term as they suspect any dip will be bought.
• This hedging is particularly on IWM as it is more interest rate sensitive as we see skew point lower. Traders are lowering call options but this is normal ahead of key data. It is just hedging it is not sign of a change in positioning.
• 200 will probably be the supportive wall on IWM on pullback.
• Here we see the positioning for delta

• We see a lot of put delta at 200 which will make it supportive, then again at 196 which will probs mark max low incase of v hot print.
• Traders are still v bullish in this market, as are institutions. They just hedge.
• A hot CPI will probably lead to a short term pullback, and I will suspect many people will overestimate the magnitude of this and will turn bearish. They will then get fucked again in the buy the dip just like last time. I will update you nearer the time, but this seems the scenario.
• If CPI comes in line, or soft, we probably rip to ATH, as this will fuel more rate cut sentiment.
• We will then have CPI soft, as well as jobs numbers softening.
• I think that the CPI numbers are actually less important right now. We are still yet to see the inflation trend necessary to give the Fed the confidence required to get to cuts. This will likely take many months to get to that point. SO a hot print doesnt change too much in that way, and a soft print still needs a lot more to follow to increase confidence beyond that.
• However, Powell also laid out the other path to rate cuts, which is that the job market will weaken.
• Right now, we are seeing many signs of a weaker job market, although it is not weak enough to be at recessionary levels. This is actually right now then in a. Sweet spot. May be weakening enough to push the Fed to still consider cuts, but not weak enough to be recessionary.
• If we look at the indeed wage growth numbers, Indeed being a private job listing site, we see wage growth over 2023 and into 2024 has continued to move lower. JOLTS is showing a direct Correlation with this. The Indeed data is leading JOLTS lower, so we should expect to see further weakening in the labour market.
• A look at NVDA positioning: just below the key level of 900.
• We are seeing positive gex across the board really, not much put gex. Gamma is building on 1000 again. Traders probably look for more upside here.
• Reaction to PPI probably be limited as traders await CPI. IF good, can see short term jump before faded intraday into CPI.
• Headline CPI and PPI should get benefit from the fact that oil prices are lower into May from start of April. Used cars should come light on CPI, and we still hope for the shelter prices to reflect real time rents that we see from Zillow data. I think its possible CPI can beat expectations.

DATA LEDE:

• China Inflation rate: comes 0.3% YOY vs expectations of 0.1%. Previous reading was 0.1%
• As such, China inflation rate was higher than expected. This is bullish for Chinese market as represents another step away from disinflation. 3rd month in a row, out of disinflation.
• MOM was 0.1% vs estimate of -0.1%
• Fed’s Jefferson speaks as well as Fed’s Mester
• Tomorrow is PPI, WEed

MARKETS:

• SPX - Trading at 5234. Is up 0.34% today, Closed friday at 5220. Looks like recovery of ATH at 5272 is on the horizon soon, if CPI can support.
• nasdaq: Trading at 18,222, up 0.5% in premarket. Strong resistance at around 18,340. That is more or less where ATH is. So again, will be targeting ATH.
• Dow: ATH is just shy of 40k. Right now, Dow is trading at 39,580. So ATH is target again. 9th green day in a row now.
• GER40: Flat around 18,750. Lack of any real negative catalyst nor fear in the market. Target still looks like 19k.
• UK100: Trading totally flat at 8430. Has squeezed significantly higher. Up 9% in the last month.
• HKG50: is higher by 1%, back above 19,135, due to the China CPI coming in ahead of expectations, confirming move away from Deflation, and also the fact that China will be embarking on more stimulus.
• CHINA50: Flat really, around 12,700.
• OIL - slightly higher as China might intensify efforts to stimulate economic growth with launch of ultra long sovereign bonds. Will be trying to target the 80 level For WTI if CPI can support.
• GOLD - Trading at 2350. Again will be targeting 2400 this week with CPI.

FX:

• BOJ reduces bond buying in latest operation, causing yen to increase earlier in session, but since pared the gains.
• Dollar flat/moving slightly lower this morning ahead of PPI tomorrow. Trading at 105.1
• GBP moves higher. Positioning is bullish, as does EURO.
• EURUSD is trading just below 1.08. Is up 0.21% this morning.
• GBPUSD at 1.2547. Will be trying to get close to 100d MA this week, above 1.26
• USDJPy continues weakness, trading at 156 level now again.

MAG 7:

• AAPL - Jeffries believes Apple may launch aggressive iPhone promotional discounts during the 618 online shopping festival in China. Currently Pindudoduo is offering 21% discounts on iPhone, most on any platform. JD second with 16% discounts
• AAPL - Finanlising deal with openAI to use chatgpt AI features on iPhone!!!
• So they will be overhauling Siri and integrating advanced generative AI to enhance user experience
• TSLA - Shanghai Megapack plant has received a construction permit and construction will start in may. Will reach mass production in Q1 of next year.
• TSLA - launches a below market financing rate for Model Y EV purchases. Brought the rate down to 0.99% annual percentage. Quoted rate a week ago was 6.5%. They are trying to stimulate more sales of Model Y to clear inventory
• NVDA - Jefferies raises Nvda PT to 1,200 from 780. Said NVDA is their favourite in the AI basket.
• NVDA - HSBC raises price target to 1350 from 1050.
• NVDA - says they are embarking on a new era of supercomputing, as it announces that 9 new supercomputers globally are using NVDA Grace Hopper super chips, and that the company is accelerating quantum computing efforts
• GOOGL - Sam Altman says that openAI is not working on a search engine. Good for Googel.
• Nonetheless, Google is down in premarket on the Apple partnership with OpenAI. That makes android phones less attractive.
• MSFT - OpEnAI will announce ChatGPT product improvements today

OTHER COMPANIES:

• With BTC trading higher, Crypto stocks are seeing volume today, all higher. CSLK most up after strong earnings on Friday.
• Chinese stocks generally higher on China market higher on better than expected CPI and stimulus measures.
• ARM - developing its own AI chips with the first prototype expected by Spring 2025. Company plans to establish. Dedicated AI chip division, aiming for mass production in Fall 2025.
• INTC - Apollo is in exclusive talks to invest $11B+ in intel chip factory in Ireland.

• With QQQ above 440 and SPX above 5200, vol structure is supportive.
• These are now key levels of support
• We probably see some choppiness, likely with upward pressure as positioning supportive. The choppiness will come from amrket makers tryingt o hedge their volatility surpression.
• Vix is at 13.37, likely to remain between 13 and 14.
• We see basically bullihs positioning on indices.
• However, skew on SPX and QQQ, whilst elevated (indicating bulishness) is pointing lower as traders start to hedge. Meanwhile, skew on VIX is supressed, pointing to lack of fear in market, but points higher. This is due to traders hedging for CPI and PPI.
• As such, traders hedge a bit,due to the data, but positioning overall bullish.
• Top options being bought are 5400 and QQQ 450. both are v much OTM but it shows traders positioning is bullish. Just with hedging for possible short term vol.

• We see a lot of put delta at 200 which will make it supportive, then again at 196 which will probs mark max low incase of v hot print.
• Traders are still v bullish in this market, as are institutions. They just hedge.
• A hot CPI will probably lead to a short term pullback, and I will suspect many people will overestimate the magnitude of this and will turn bearish. They will then get fucked again in the buy the dip just like last time. I will update you nearer the time, but this seems the scenario.
• If CPI comes in line, or soft, we probably rip to ATH, as this will fuel more rate cut sentiment.
• We will then have CPI soft, as well as jobs numbers softening.
• I think that the CPI numbers are actually less important right now. We are still yet to see the inflation trend necessary to give the Fed the confidence required to get to cuts. This will likely take many months to get to that point. SO a hot print doesnt change too much in that way, and a soft print still needs a lot more to follow to increase confidence beyond that.
• However, Powell also laid out the other path to rate cuts, which is that the job market will weaken.
• Right now, we are seeing many signs of a weaker job market, although it is not weak enough to be at recessionary levels. This is actually right now then in a. Sweet spot. May be weakening enough to push the Fed to still consider cuts, but not weak enough to be recessionary.
• If we look at the indeed wage growth numbers, Indeed being a private job listing site, we see wage growth over 2023 and into 2024 has continued to move lower. JOLTS is showing a direct Correlation with this. The Indeed data is leading JOLTS lower, so we should expect to see further weakening in the labour market.
• A look at NVDA positioning: just below the key level of 900.
• We are seeing positive gex across the board really, not much put gex. Gamma is building on 1000 again. Traders probably look for more upside here.
• Reaction to PPI probably be limited as traders await CPI. IF good, can see short term jump before faded intraday into CPI.
• Headline CPI and PPI should get benefit from the fact that oil prices are lower into May from start of April. Used cars should come light on CPI, and we still hope for the shelter prices to reflect real time rents that we see from Zillow data. I think its possible CPI can beat expectations.

DATA LEDE:

• China Inflation rate: comes 0.3% YOY vs expectations of 0.1%. Previous reading was 0.1%
• As such, China inflation rate was higher than expected. This is bullish for Chinese market as represents another step away from disinflation. 3rd month in a row, out of disinflation.
• MOM was 0.1% vs estimate of -0.1%
• Fed’s Jefferson speaks as well as Fed’s Mester
• Tomorrow is PPI, WEed

MARKETS:

• SPX - Trading at 5234. Is up 0.34% today, Closed friday at 5220. Looks like recovery of ATH at 5272 is on the horizon soon, if CPI can support.
• nasdaq: Trading at 18,222, up 0.5% in premarket. Strong resistance at around 18,340. That is more or less where ATH is. So again, will be targeting ATH.
• Dow: ATH is just shy of 40k. Right now, Dow is trading at 39,580. So ATH is target again. 9th green day in a row now.
• GER40: Flat around 18,750. Lack of any real negative catalyst nor fear in the market. Target still looks like 19k.
• UK100: Trading totally flat at 8430. Has squeezed significantly higher. Up 9% in the last month.
• HKG50: is higher by 1%, back above 19,135, due to the China CPI coming in ahead of expectations, confirming move away from Deflation, and also the fact that China will be embarking on more stimulus.
• CHINA50: Flat really, around 12,700.
• OIL - slightly higher as China might intensify efforts to stimulate economic growth with launch of ultra long sovereign bonds. Will be trying to target the 80 level For WTI if CPI can support.
• GOLD - Trading at 2350. Again will be targeting 2400 this week with CPI.

FX:

• BOJ reduces bond buying in latest operation, causing yen to increase earlier in session, but since pared the gains.
• Dollar flat/moving slightly lower this morning ahead of PPI tomorrow. Trading at 105.1
• GBP moves higher. Positioning is bullish, as does EURO.
• EURUSD is trading just below 1.08. Is up 0.21% this morning.
• GBPUSD at 1.2547. Will be trying to get close to 100d MA this week, above 1.26

just bought a Roku TV and I want to share my iPhone screen with it. I've heard about screen mirroring but I'm not sure how to set it up. Can someone help me understand the steps to mirror my iPhone to my Roku TV? I would appreciate a simple explanation so I can start watching my phone's videos and apps on my big TV screen.

Hi, could someone please help me? I'm somewhat new to iPhone, and I understand that some data saved on iCloud uses end-to-end encryption. According to the technology concept and Apple, only trusted devices can decrypt this data using the device password when attempting to restore this data to a new device, for example.
Considering that I currently only have one Apple device, an iPhone, what happens if I lose it or it gets stolen? How would I, for example, recover my Health app data when setting up a new iPhone? Does the Apple ID password serve as the key to decrypt this data? I've read several Apple pages about this, but it seems very ambiguous.
For example, here Apple says, "If you lose access to your account, only you can recover this data, using your device passcode or password, recovery contact, or recovery key." It seems that the device password and other means are only used if I lose access to my Apple ID to decrypt the data, and simply logging into the new iPhone would restore all data that uses end-to-end encryption. Has anyone who only has an iPhone and has restored data on a new one experienced this?
I mentioned it was ambiguous earlier because when researching this process further, there are cases of users receiving a message when trying to restore on the new iPhone informing them that they must approve the login using the old device and its password or reset the end-to-end encrypted data to set up the new iPhone.
To me, this seems confusing. Do I simply lose all my health data, for example, if I don't have another Apple device (or lose all of them) or a friend who has one to be my recovery contact? I greatly appreciate anyone who can help!

I have a iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The day time camera is great for the most part, but the night mode is atrocious. The camera in general.
1 - using photo mode at 1x
It’s incredibly grainy a majority of the time and can almost NEVER focus. So even though night mode is used, since this camera is so ass and can’t focus, night mode doesn’t matter because the picture is blurry as shit anyways.
Literally smudges on a screen. I think my razor flip phone took similar pictures in the 2000s.
The wide lense is a bit better. But still ass.
2 - the work around is to use portrait mode. Which for whatever reason is what you should use to shoot night photography with on an iPhone. Why can’t photo mode focus as well as portrait mode? Who knows. Probably a reason, but it’s still dumb.
3 - for some reason you can only set the night mode long exposure to 10 seconds, not 30 seconds. The phone decides if it wants to do 30 seconds or not after sitting for a few seconds. Why do I have to wait and let my phone decide? Why can’t I just set it to always shoot for 30 seconds which it clearly can do? Dumb.
4 - photo 1 is with normal photo mode, the second photo is with portrait mode.
I’m using -1.5 exposure with 30 seconds long exposure on.

Yes, I have played with all types of variations of exposure, and tests between 10 & 30 second long exposure. Results didn’t vary too too much.
Anyways, this is my take away from really trying to do some night photography with a recent/newer iphone. Unpleasant.
I even bought and tried third party apps, looked up tutorials, and read guides. This is as good as it’s gonna get.
I went to an area with minimal light pollution, but that doesn’t make too much of a difference on how the phone operates based on my points above.

Im (18m) i was really close with (17f) we knew eatch other for a year but never spoke properly to eatchother untill these past three months we met orginally as she came up and asked for my snapchat in the gym and went from there and start of this year i saw her again as didnt speak for some while as i was working so we started to speak properly this time and got extremely close like we would start going gym with eatch other every week and hugging and all that stuff at the gym then like she even set me and her as her iphone wallpaper and gave me her hairband like she was proper obssed with me more than i was with her as i kinda played a whole nonchalant act with her which kind of bit me in my ass too now looking back but one day she asked me too go gym or do something else and she was hinting for me to take her out numerous occasions so i did i took her out on a date she really enjoyed it untill the end of the date her mood switched up so quick as someone called me that i and her know and she was speaking to them and said that i need reply quicker and all this in a friendly way until she stopped speaking kind of thing so i asked whats up obvs hanged up the call and asked her whats up she said if you genueinly cared ur reps would be alot better and stuff and u said if i didnt care would i be on this date with u and as too she replied people have done this to me before but just ended up not speaking to me after and i was like im not that guy, anyways i could still see something wasnt right on our journey in the car and i asked what else is up and she said to me she was like i just dont think im ready for a relationship right now and i said okay and obvs asked her why and she gave her reasons and then i dropped her home obvs i was distraught and upset as she was the one that was pushing for a relationship out of the two of us as we legit got close to being in out she pulled back so fast foward a week later kinda didnt speak after that i asked her to go gym she agreed we went gym was akward and it got better on and i dropped her home and before she got out the car i had another conversation as to what we could do to make it work she said right now she doesnt know when shes ready and doesnt want to feel like shes leading me on so i said okay then and she got out the car and was like ill message u i said okay, fast foward three weeks later we sent our streaks but havent spoke so i kinda broke it and asked how she was as she pervisouly liked my insta story giving me mixed signals so i asked her she responded an hour later but i went to bed and had to respond the next day so i responded asked her another question as to she gave the most bluntest reation and i asked her as to why she didnt even want to chat to me at all but she aired it at first then i messaged her next day as to she replied saying “mate im helping you move on” then i replied to her saying i get u dont want a relationship but doesnt mean me and you should stop speaking at all as before me and her spoke we was civil and friends so i thought it would still be like that after i never treated this girl wrongly or poorly for her to react like this only me being nonchalnt untill now anyways she left that response on dilivered that day until next day she left it open and sent me her streak i was gonna leave it as that anyways as i kinda knew not to message her untill later that day she removes mon snap out of no where and know i dont know if i should message her and be like its a shame it got to that way i dont know how it did as i still do really like and would love to form something with her in the future or get one of my friends to message her that she knew or just leave her be and if i see her in person again what should i do?

I played albion for about two months back in early 2023 on west server with a 220 ping and learned a thing or two without spending any real money and grinded for premium real hard (gathered alot….so boring lol) but had no pvp experience whatsoever aside from yz corrupted and every now and then i wandered outside bridgewatch bz portal to find a bz CD and die horribly by an invasion and basically tilt and delete the game XD (oh fyi i play exclusively on my iphone cuz of my busy life and work etc).
Anyways, i heard about EU server opening up and i thought i’d give it another shot, however this time i was pvp focused only AND bought premium for one month to actually enjoy the game instead of having to worry about grinding for premium.
Its been 10 days since i started on EU and i made around 20mil and 40 kills so far playing bz mists exclusively. I know its not much to most players who probably make 10 mil a day but i just feel great! I feel like im improving in pvp and i can even pay for premium with ingame currency but i wont lol mainly cuz i wanna throw these millions on decent sets for pvp cuz its damn fun!
Btw i initiate fights at chests or wisps sometimes, however if im gonna be honest i have ratted people before lol and its honestly super fun ngl haha
Anyways, just wanted to throw my 2 cents, hopefully encourage new players to take more risks and just have fun basically.
P.s i died sooo many times i cant even count how many until i got my first kill and kept dying afterwards alot heck im still dying alot T_T and lost millions and yet still have over 20mil regardless of my deaths and losses. The lack of accountability and accessibility of customer care service is absurd, A typical example is Airtel just to get a hold of a customer care agent is a tedious and annoying process probably meant to make frustrated clients give up because I feel like if you pay for a service you should be able to receive help as easy as possible when you require it which I feel they deliberately make hard to do ZICTA Charging them fines won't do enough the appropriate authorities should revoke or suspend trading licenses for companies that have such reprehensible behavior Airtel call themselves the smartphone network but what smartphone can run on 400MB when a weekly plan in 2024? Let's be real (My mother Has a 13 pro max and the same data she's been using on a weekly plan was under 1GB (She's not a heavy user) So she went to Airtel's office to escalate the issue about her data finishing too fast when she spends most of the time working and when the Airtel sales rep at the counter asked her how much she spends on data a week she replies K10 the silly girl replies "oh no madam that's too little you should buy for a K100 at least" Mind you this is coming from someone who gets free airtime and data as a benefit For being an employee of Airtel
A similar behavior comes into play when it comes to MTN but equally both companies would rather blame my brand to know iphone from a far much more reputable company then take accountability for the weakness and flaws of their service on an iphone you really don't need to switch tone and switch it off to make your network work you can just put it in flight mode and turn off flight mode after that.
Personally I avoid shouting at customer care agents because most of them genuinelly don't know how to best help clients and some are not even sharp enough to give proper answers and neither do the qualified people within the companies tell them the correct things to tell customers because about two weeks ago a customer care agent was telling me how to install Internet configuration settings and giving me a passcode when iphone does those things automatically I don't have access to that the most you can do is APNs
Zamtel Have more than enough money Better their services and service quality because they do get payments for the two other service providers using their existing networking infrastructure and honesty they could become a powerhouse they are cost efficient or budget friendly for most people but they need to work seriously hard because the network becomes slow as hell and the lack of consistency is what kills them when you think of them you don't think of reliability you just think of zamtel as a budget friendly option. They are too slow to develop can I feel the only way they get clients is by being deceptive when you call to inquire about the data offers on broadband
Liquid telecom Although they don't Although they don't provide cellular coverage but are focused on broadband and WiFi they are a really good and reliable service and for me that's an 85% satisfaction for me I wish there a bit more friendly on cost but it is affordable for what they provide it's good value

For about the past month my iPhone 13 has been randomly restarting... At first it wasn't that alarming (1 or 2 resets a day) but then it shot up to double digits a day and became pretty annoying (can't see notifications or use flashlight or camera without entering passcode and waiting for everything to boot up again .etc).
I started by going to the Apple Store and they ran their diagnostics on it. They essentially told me the hardware (from at least what they detected) seems completely fine and that my Phone's warranty ran out so there's not much they could really do. They just suggested I do a full wipe of my phone or upgrade to a new phone (which I do not want to do because I got this phone only a little over a year ago)
I ran iDevice Analyzer on it and got back the following possible reasons:
NAND, CPU Open Line(s), Crystal, Interposer
Searching online, I couldn't found much on what these meant or how to fix it aside from like one reddit post from a long time ago. Does anyone have any interpretations of these problems or any idea on how to maybe fix it?
