2024.05.14 15:51 Sansar_99 Landing Robot

Landing Robot
I have joined a Robot Contest in Japan. This contest has a different mission every year. It is my and two other members' first time joining this contest and my first time building a robot. The contest is on the 6th of October. Sorry, I used Google to translate to English.
If you know Japanese, please check the official website and rulebook.

Intro

The missions of this year's contest are "Landing" and "Recovery and Return."
  • Landing. If Robot1 sends Robot2 flying and lands in Area C, you will score points. The landing spot with the highest score is 5 meters away from Area A.
  • Recovery and Return. Collect the ball and deliver it to Robot1, then take the box and return to Area B. Robot 2 can return by itself, or it can collaborate and cooperate with Robot 1.
The contest time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

(Fig.1) The field looks like this

Robot

  • Have to make at least 2 robots.
  • Robots must be decorated with some kind of character ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).
  • Safety
  • The budget is around $2500
  • It doesn't matter whether the control method is manual or automatic. In the case of manual operation, remote control is limited to radio, ultrasound, and light.

  • Size Robots must meet the following size restrictions.
    • Robot1: 1200mm x 1200mm x 1000mm height throughout the competition. This is the maximum size when all movable parts of the robot are expanded.
    • Robot2: There is no size limit. At the start, all robots must be completely within the starting zone, which is 1500mm x 1500mm. Robot 2 may be placed on top of Robot 1, but the height from the field surface must not exceed 1500mm.

  • The weight of all robots shall be within 30 kg. (Battery and air tank are included in the weight)

  • Robot 2 shall satisfy one of the following conditions.
    • Has the function of collecting and holding the ball or box.
    • Has the ability to directly deliver the ball to Area A by throwing or kicking it.
    • Has the ability to deliver boxes to Area A directly.

  • Power Supply Limitations
    • Voltage: Both drive and control system circuits must be 24V or less. Internal circuit voltages should not exceed 24V, except for transient voltages.
    • Current: Each circuit must have a current interrupting device (fuse, breaker, etc.) of 30A or less. For multiple drive system circuits, the total current interrupting capacity must not exceed 30A per robot. Control system circuit current is not included in this total. Ensure the current interrupting devices match the ratings of the entire circuit, considering wiring and breaker specifications.
  • Dangerous energy sources such as power sources other than electricity, such as high-pressure gas or explosives, must not be used.
  • Compressed air tank must be removable, with an air meter below 0.75 MPa at room temperature. Plastic bottles and homemade tanks are prohibited.

  • It is PROHIBITED to use suction or suction cups on the floor. Propeller flight, helium levitation, and hovercraft are PROHIBITED.

Contest environment

(Fig.2) Contest Field with measurements (Sorry its in japanese)
  • 7 balls approximately 200mm in diameter
    • each ball is 10 points
  • 3 boxes 200mm on all sides.
    • each box is 60 points

  • Landing spots: There are landing spots ① to ③ in a concentric circle, and ② and ③ are raised steps.
    • ③ = 100 points
    • ② = 40 points
    • ① = 10 points

  • During the contest
    • Each team has to change each other ball and box placement anywhere within the object zone [orange box in (Fig.1)]
    • However, all objects must be in contact with the field surface.
Lastly, we cannot damage the field and distract the opposing team.
Please share any ideas for the robots, we really need help. If you have any questions please ask I will try to answer them.
Thank you!

2024.05.14 13:19 TheGreatGimmick Suggesting Entangled Conduits, a relatively expensive (so hopefully balanced) way to access three powerful effects not yet in the game.

Crafting, Properties, and Appearance

Echo Shard Echo Shard Echo Shard
Echo Shard Conduit Echo Shard
Crying Obsidian Crying Obsidian Crying Obsidian

Picture of Crafting Recipe

Entangled Conduits share most properties with a Beacon, such as placement, size, piston interactions, and so on. They can be mined successfully by hand or with any tool. When destroyed by an explosion, the block always drops as an item. However, unlike a Beacon they only produce a light level of 10, the same as Crying Obsidian.
Entangled Conduits appear somewhat similar to Stonecutters or Enchanting Tables in that they consist of a low 'table' with some animated feature in the center. They have a Sculk-themed color palette, a square base, and a snowglobe-like 'dome' on top. The dome's appearance changes based on the biome theme currently reflected in the Entangled Conduit network (see below).

Usage

Placement

All Entangled Conduits placed in the world belong to the same 'network' (explained below). As such, placed Entangled Conduits keep their chunk loaded (at a level of 31) so as to remain active in this global network.

Interaction

Players can interact with any single Entangled Conduit to toggle ALL Entangled Conduits in the world between all states currently available to the Entangled Conduit network. The available states consist of each unique biome at least one Entangled Conduit has been placed within (explained further below). Only player interaction can activate an Entangled Conduit to toggle between states.
For example, say four Entangled Conduits are placed in the world, with their chunks consisting of the following biomes: Forest, Forest, Ocean, Jagged Peaks. Interacting with any Entangled Conduit in the world would toggle their states in the following order: Forest -> Ocean -> Jagged Peaks -> repeat. To be clear, there are only three states in this setup: Having two Entangled Conduits in the same biome (Forest) still only grants one state to the rotation.
The snowglobe-like dome in the center-top of each Entangled Conduit changes appearance based on the current biome state of the network.

Effect

Entangled Conduits cause their chunk and the chunks immediately adjacent to them to behave as if they were the chunk and biome currently selected by the Entangled Conduit network's state.
This includes spawning (e.g., mobs, frog variants, etc.), fishing rewards, slime chunks, and so on. Biomes exclusive to certain altitudes (e.g., Deep Dark) or temperatures (e.g., Warm Oceans) can still be emulated, though coordinate-dependent effects (e.g., rain turning to snow at sufficiently-high altitudes in some biomes) will not occur at invalid coordinates even if the contributing Entangled Conduit was placed at such coordinates.
Entangled Conduits work across dimensions, but dimension-exclusive effects (e.g., weather and the day-night cycle in the Overworld, the inability to place water in the Nether, etc.) are NOT transferred. For example, if the Entangled Conduit network is used to copy Frozen Peaks into the Nether, goats will spawn (and probably die pretty quickly by charging something they shouldn't haha) but it will not snow and you cannot place water, because you are still in the Nether.

Justification and Preemptive Arguments

Crafting and Value

Entangled Conduits require some of the least-utilized materials in the game, namely Crying Obsidian, Echo Shards, Nautilus Shells, and Hearts of the Sea. This gives these materials more use cases.
Echo Shards tie into the "remote communication" mechanic of Entangled Conduits, since Sculk Sensors also allow for "wireless" signals. As a component, the Conduit mainly just lends its name to the final product, but it fits thematically in that sense, since a conduit is something that acts as a channel for the transmission of something (in this case biomes).
Requiring Echo Shards and especially Hearts of the Sea to craft causes Entangled Conduits to be a non-renewable and relatively difficult-to-obtain resource, similarly to Shulker Boxes. This limits how much they can be abused, and justifies their extreme power with a relatively high cost.

Chunk Loading

Usage
Chunks becoming unloaded is a major source of frustration for anyone that did not build their base within a spawn chunk (and doesn't wish to 'cheat' by using commands). Even if you did build your main base in a spawn chunk, remote locations of interest may be found outside of this range and become unloaded. This is most relevant for redstone contraptions: Say you built a machine that is supposed to activate whenever the sun goes down. You might think that such a trigger should be a 'global' effect, but your machine will not work unless it is inside a loaded chunk!
Current Solution
The current solution to this problem is to create a chunk loader, but these are relatively complex, tedious, often annoyingly loud, need to be hidden (or else be an eyesore), take up space in both the Overworld and the Nether, can mess with Nether Portal networks, and most importantly break when their server shuts down, making them unsuitable for Realms in particular (Realms servers hard shut down when no players are online).
So, although chunk loading is technically currently possible, a reliable way to keep a chunk loaded is so useful and sought-after that a dedicated mechanic is long overdue in my opinion.
Potential Abuse?
Now, obviously the game only loads a limited number of chunks for a reason: If too many chunks are loaded, performance issues may arise. However, this is already possible to abuse using the above chunk loaders. Entangled Conduits would be even more difficult to spam out into the world than the current chunk loaders, because each Entangled Conduit requires a Heart of the Sea to craft. Not only are Hearts of the Sea a non-renewable resource that cannot be farmed, but they require a rather lengthy process to obtain on top of that!

Remote Redstone Activation

Current Solution
Currently, there are extremely limited (and convoluted) ways to remotely activate a redstone machine. You can simply place down an extremely long redstone signal (which requires a ton of time, redstone, and a pathway from your machine to your activation location), you can use a timed trigger (e.g., setting up a clock to trigger later, or using world effects like the day-night cycle), or you can use Sculk mechanics for more short-ranged but nonetheless "wireless" signals.
Entangled Conduits have obvious advantages over all of these, most notably their simplicity and unlimited range. All you need is an Observer facing any Entangled Conduit and it will detect when the state of the global network changes for any reason.
Yeah Yeah, Another Wireless Redstone Suggestion, Yawn...
To be fair, Entangled Conduits do not directly provide "wireless redstone", and have many limitations that hamstring their usefulness for that purpose.
Instead, an analogy I would draw involves a system I made in my survival world for my Ender Pearl Stasis Chamber recall machine: I set up a redstone circuit that detects when I sleep through the night, using a global mechanic (time of day) to communicate with my system back at my main base over any distance. Natural day-night cycles iterate between light levels continuously, while skipping the night by sleeping abruptly changes the light level, which my system detects. So, when I am ready to be recalled, I can remotely trigger my home base's Ender Pearl Stasis Chamber from anywhere in the world to bring me back just by sleeping.
Entangled Conduits would merely make global communication like this a bit more straightforward. However, they still:
  • are exclusively manually-activated (e.g., like Levers as opposed to Pressure Plates or Observers)
  • are all tied to the same global network (and thus only one device can use them at a time, otherwise you would accidentally trigger other devices using the network)
  • do not directly interface with any redstone components (they produce no signal, the only way to use them is through Observers sensing them change state).
  • are far, far more expensive than other "wireless" options like Sculk Sensors or even Calibrated Sculk Sensors.
Since we only recently received the capability for "wireless" signals with Sculk, one of the main criticisms I foresee about this post is that the existence of Entangled Conduits might make some Sculk mechanics obsolete. However, that isn't the case at all, as the two serve drastically different purposes.

Biome Emulation

Entangled Conduits...
  • do not make exploration obsolete. In fact they actively encourage exploration, since you still need to find the desired biome in the first place.
  • create an emulated biome that is quite small, only taking up 9 chunks (the Entangled Conduit's chunk and those immediately adjacent).
  • cannot fully mimic any biome, since most unique features of biomes (e.g., terrain, generated structures, ore/resources, etc.) are created at world spawn, which emulating a biome afterwards does not affect.
  • are relatively expensive in that they cannot be farmed, limiting their usage and therefore ease of abuse.
All of that being said, there are obviously many, many use cases for emulating various biomes in specific chunks at will. I won't be able to list them all here, so instead I argued for the mechanic's downsides (and therefore balance) in the above list.
What do you think? Thank you for your time and feedback!

2024.05.14 12:39 cmac1986 How to land drone manually from a higher altitude point.

Hello guys this happened a number of weeks ago, first of my drone is fried. Ended up at the bottom of our pool, three propellers work and one does not. So it shuts off.
My question, is it possible to manually land a drone (atom 3 axis) at a different point from the home point (take off area)?
I set my home point from take off at a lower altitude and decided to record some footage of our car driving to a higher altitude to our home. When I got there and out of the car I was unable to land the drone, I started to panic as every time I tried to land it it kept bouncing of the gravel or flat surface/ground. As I knew I was in a bit of trouble with the drone planning to return to home I tried grabbing it from the air but it kept rising away from my hand. In the end after a few unsuccessful attempts then drone did what it normally would on low battery and decided to return to the original home point. Unlucky for me with the higher altitude the drone shot around 8 feet in the air from where i was standing and in a downward direction straight into our swimming pool (obviously trying it's decent to home point)
I'm sure I could have avoided this by maybe having the drone make contact with a bush but none of that was on my mind at the time of panic.
It looks like I will have to buy the housing (drone only without battery) again. For future is there anyway I can avoid such a risk?. Is there an option in the app to allow me to change home point on the fly? Is there an option to have the drone land manually, I assume the little sensors on the bottom were there to show that there is a surface below so as to land. Had the drone since last year. Never was I in a position to try what I did and unfortunately lost the drone trying to get some nice footage.
I bought the fly more pack so I've two battery's still with remote, bag and extras.
Thanks a lot

2024.05.14 11:06 ya_red Rescue Mode

It would be Great to have some sort of rescue mode where Luba tries everything to get going again when stuck. Even if it involves overstepping the perimeter and similar. Sometimes Luba 2 says it is stuck and does nothing but physically does not seem to be in a helpless situation. For that - manual mode via remote would also be helpful.

2024.05.14 10:03 Overcomer99 Any tips on bike riding as and adult?

Okay so some quick context I can never seem to keep anything in a straight line, it’s like I’m always either pushing more with my left hand or my right now matter how hard I try to keep both even, even when I push my pram I’m all over the place and have to concentrate super duper hard to maintain a straight line for even a short while like passing someone else on the side walk.
I learnt to ride a bike without training wheels at like 10 maybe a little older, I was really good at it and really enjoyed it into my teenage years than my sister broke it and I haven’t ridden for over 10 years now. I don’t drive so me and my partner have gotten an electric bike, my partner also hasn’t ridden in over 10 years and he got on like it was nothing and can ride well. Me I’m all over the road, the reason I got this was so me and my toddler can get into town on our own since we live to far to walk like I usually would. Now I’m all over the road either left or right I can’t seem to keep an even remotely straight line, my balance is alright ish like it could use a little work but it’s more the fact I kept turning the handle bars without meaning to one way or the other, I had the electric part off so it was just manual because it goes faster if it’s on and that makes me turn accidentally even sharper. I’m super frustrated can anyone related and maybe offer tips?

2024.05.14 06:12 GrimTiki How to install custom brushes when ZBrush isn’t actually on my computer?

At home, I can put custom brushes into the brushes folder in ZBrush and they load automatically.
At work, ZBrush installs from and operates from a remote server, and I don’t have access to the brush folder.
I can load brushes individually, manually, one by one. But I’m not doing that every time I open the program. Not with dozens of custom brushes.
The custom ui is loaded from my desktop, but brushes don’t seem to work like that.
How can I load all my custom brushes at once, or have them launch with ZBrush when the brush folders aren’t even on my computer?

2024.05.14 01:55 flwwhtrbt Mini Pirate News

Well, let's wrap up what I've found at the very least interesting in the last couple weeks for pirates and purists alike! This one is very small, not much happening lately!
Sony:
As maybe you've seen, there's no better indication that 'if they don't let you buy it, then pirate it' than Sony delists Ghost of Tsushima PC from various Steam regions, much like Helldivers 2 saw.

Following Sony's decision last week to delist Helldivers 2 in 170 regions worldwide on Steam, it seems this will be the firm's PC stance moving forward, and it has since done the same for the imminent PC release of Ghost of Tsushima. More regions have been added to the list, taking the total number of territories affected to 180, which is now consistent across both titles.
Previously, Sony has said that Ghost of Tsushima's single player offering would be unaffected by this additional requirement. The game's Steam Page still states that a PSN account is required to play the Legends multiplayer mode, but it was delisted anyway. Due to the open nature of Valve's platform, these changes are pretty visible, and including Sucker Punch's primarily single player open world epic in this blanket ban comes as a legitimate surprise.
SteamDB's post here shows the refund.
This is bullshit. The good news? Sony do not use Denuvo for their PC games, so it will be available as soon as possible to be pirated.

Rockstar:
By all accounts, it looks like Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption will be releasing on PC - in line with their usual tactics of releasing on a console platform and leaving PC for last, at least it will (probably) be coming to PC.

Denuvo:
A Denuvo 'outage' made a completely single-player game Persona 5 unplayble - amusingly Denuvo claim that "there was no outage related to its servers at this time"
The thing we can take away from this is Denuvo sucks, and it's just better to play the damn thing via Yuzu or Ryujinx.

Related, we now see that it is confirmed that Homeworld 3 will release with Denuvo. The only good news is that Gearbox is one of the few publishers who remove Denuvo. So...just wait for this one.

Just...interesting and useful:
This video guide via YouTuber 'MonroeWorld' shows you how to SSHFS - mount your Steam Deck as a Windows drive.
"Access your Deck's storage using whatever file manager or tools you want ON AND FROM Windows. In a few minutes, you can copy roms, access compatdata, backup/restore save files and more without ever leaving the comfort of Windows. In about ten minutes, you will have your common Steam Deck locations mounted as drive letters in Windows - accessing them just like any other Windows drive"
Here is a github link for a GUI for the sshfs manager
Even better u/ReplacementFun53 has a full written guide on how to do so here!!! - 100% what you should be checking out, it's perfect!

FitGirl:
Has a new section on her page (remember, always use the official site, not one of the dodgy rip-offs) Updates now have their own sub-section on her page for games which have, you guessed it, been recently updated - called Updates Digest. Super handy! I love seeing these kind of incremental UX updates, yay!

Hydra Launcher:
Hydra is an open-source launcher released in the last few weeks by the Brazilian community. Being able to download and launch games from fitgirl and dodi - it has/is a torrent client, automatically applies metadata for games, emulators and roms; seems to hope to be an all-in-one piracy portal. Personally, I prefer to manually add games from trusted links myself. But I'm paranoid. At least it is interesting.

Hydra is a free open game launcher focused on being 100% safe, self-sufficient, ad-free, without registration, without subscription and without waiting times.
Hydra combines games from platforms like Steam and Epic Games with trackers from repackers/crackers known and trusted by the pirate gaming community (such as Fitgirl, Dodi and KaOsKrew.
The game downloads are done directly through the platform, as we have our own private torrent protocol.
Hydra currently has the capability to search among a list of more than 13,000 repacks posted in secure places on the internet, but not limited to that. being self-sufficient, Hydra can navigate the trackers not only looking for updates of games that are already registered but also for games that have just been released.

Lastly the AMA with Dodi:
Well and truly locked in for the 16th. I have a post pinned at the top of PiratedGames, and have just reached out to the mods of Piracy about posting in their sub letting the users know what is happening. I also just posted in his discord server (at his behest). The only thing yet to be determined will be the exact time, for Americans it may be the 15th (your time), but...time-zones fry my brain so I don't know. Really excited about having him come by, the repacker scene is fascinating to me, so I can't wait to hear what he says.

Guides?
I'm working on one lil guide since its been awhile since my last. Most probably will post after the aforementioned AMA.

Lastly?
Thanks to all of you, we're nearing 17k members here and you're all super lovely. This is such a strange sub-reddit because everyone is so damned nice. I just wanted to thank you all for being here, it makes it so nice.
If you wanted to show off your Deck's home screen - then this post a couple days ago is where you can do it!

Thanks, all <3

2024.05.14 01:44 unBrilliantBird Automatic Toslink Switcher

The ask Find a way to automatically switch between at least two TOSLINK sources into one out. I do NOT want to manually switch inputs (even with a remote). Essentially this, but want to see if there are other options.
The Specifics I have two old Sony 400 CD Mega Changers (CDP-M555es). These players can be daisy chained together using the S-Link connector allowing for gapless play between players. The only digital out on the players is TOSLINK. Currently I need to run optical from each player to a separate in on my DAC (Gishelli Labs J2S) and manually switch between the sources on my DAC.
Questions Should I be concerned with noticeable degradation in the digital signal using a switcher? Is switcher the right term?
Please let me know if you need any clarification and thanks in advance.

2024.05.14 00:37 Confident_Pilot_5364 2011 Toyota Camry LE won’t lock on all doors

I have a 2011 Toyota Camry LE and I noticed all my doors were not locking. The first time this happened was about two months ago and it fixed itself after me driving 10 minutes (noticed mid-drive). The second time it happened, it did the same thing, but that was last week. Today, I noticed my car wasn’t locking after I parked and it hasn’t locked for the last nine hours. I tried driving around and nothing really changed. My car will unlock with the remote, but won’t register the lock button on my remote at all. If I click the lock button on my door, it won’t lock either. I can manually lock the driver’s door with a key but the other doors won’t lock. Currently, I locked it manually by pressing in every lock for every single door. Can someone please help me figure out what might be wrong? If it’s a small fix, I would like to attempt it first rather than paying $200+ just to get it looked at. Google wasn’t exactly that descriptive so I thought I might hop on here and see if anybody has any suggestions. Please and thank you!

2024.05.14 00:27 NotTheRedWire Not sure where to change my income online

I get money from a private dependent pension, usually yearly changes are automatic but due to things beyond my understanding I've been told I should do this year's change manually to be safe, but I'm not sure where.
When I click through the "Report a change >> Work and earnings" the only section that seems remotely applicable is "Expecting payment from previous employment", but I'm not convinced that's it.
Is there a section I'm missing? Am I going to have to call them to change it? I noticed all these clicks in and out of change of circumstances are filling up my journal, I hope they don't think I'm doing something dodgy.

2024.05.13 21:43 Noctevent Can an old laptop plugged to a TV act like a dedicated steam link with moonlight/sunshine ?

Hello everyone !
I have an official steam link box and enjoy for the most part the experience. But I would like to stream with better latency and at better res than 1080p.
As it so happens I have an old gaming laptop with in i5 6ksomething and a GTX 660m. Sounds decent enough to act as a low latency client, but I'm concerned about a few things : - I can wake up my steam link by turning on a controller, would that be possible on a laptop ? - I can turn on my desktop PC with a wake on lan request from my steam link, would that be possible with moonlight/sunshine ? - when I turn on the laptop remotely with a wireless controller (if possible), can I directly start streaming or do I need to launch the client manually and set up a few things requiring a mouse ? - my GPU on my desktop is a 6700XT, I hear that it should work with sunshine, is there any downside to not using an Nvidia GPU as host ?
Thanks in advance for your help ! Cheers.

2024.05.13 21:01 palrhino Garage door opener not pairing with the motor

My Garage door cam/controller went offline recently. The only thing I changed was the door sensor battery. I tried everything, including resetting the main garage door cam unit, checked the wiring but it fails at the 'pairing with motor' state. I can hear some clicks but the door doesn't open/close. It was working fine all this while. The garage door otherwise is working normally with a manual remote. Anything I am missing or need to do to troubleshoot?
