2024.05.13 23:13 mr--ronald--n--tan SSN-21 Seawolf Game and SONAR Waterfall Display: Allowed Me to Have Fun at Chemistry NMR Spectroscopy
This is more of a walking down memory lane. Submarines fascinates me. One of the best games I remember playing eons ago are two games—SSN 21 Seawolf and 688(I) HunteKiller.
One of the enjoyable moments are using SONAR to ID other subs and ships. I remember I printed out a section of the Seawolf manual that contains detection keys to both surface and submerged vessels.
Long story short, when I had to take undergraduate chemistry classes, part of our lesson include spectroscopy using NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance).
Any ways, I pretended I was playing "SONAR" and "ID-ing" other vessels. This mindset eventually allowed me to ace the midterms and one of the most enjoyable courses in my university studies.
If I remember correctly, each propeller has a unique signal and that's how vessels are ID using bands that show up in the waterfall display of SONAR.

2024.05.13 23:13 Perfect-Prior-8417 Sand Barioth looks much better with its teeth broken
Playing 3U and I want to upgrade my wyvern blade fire to the next stage in order to kill glacial Agnaktor in the 9* village quest. One of the materials required and the most difficult one for me to get is sand Barioth's tail.
I've never liked Barioth. I do like sabertooth tigers but not barioth. This thing is a menace even the normal one. But the variant is an absolute nightmare. Guy won't stop jumping around. The only opening he leaves is after he does the tornado rotation in the air. Once he lands after that he stops for like two seconds and that's literally the only opening the guy has. But good lock dodging the helicopter attack.
The stupid fossil tiger will also hit you with its absurdly long tail even if you dodge the hip check. No matter what you do you're gonna get hit. But the worst part is that out of the three runs I've done so far, I only got its tail once. The second and third time I carved a fucking carpace from his tail. Imagine spending 20 minutes trying to hit his tail with this mother fucker dodging and hitting at the same time, only to carve a carpace.. That did it for me. I rage quit. Didn't want to farm honey again for extra mega potions so I closed the game immediately without killing the kangaroo tiger. Next time I swear I'll make its species go extinct.

Prologue
Hello and welcome to my post. I will subdivide this into two large parts. One will cover my thoughts, feelings, my hopes and dreams...While the other will tell you the specifics of how I pass the time, what topics interest me, what passions do I posses. I believe that at the end of this leap into my inner world, you dear reader, will have all the necessary information to judge whether we are compatible or not.
Part I
I am writing this in the hopes of finding something that I lack. Lately I have had this feeling, this tinge of melancholy within the dephts of my being, this yearning to find a kindred spirit, another Soul, much like mine, to form a bond with. Perhaps Loneliness is the right word for what is bothering me, but to use it seems to carry with it a connotation of ungratefulness. Ungratefulness for the people that I do have in my life, although none of them, of course, have the connection to me that I seek here.
I have found it increasingly necessary to seek in this Life a sort of purity of thought. What I mean is, I have began to undestand what ideas and concepts are ultimately compatible with my inner most Self, ergo what guidelines I have to follow to feel the most whole. Naturally I have likewise realised what I cannot add to my Self and what I will henceforth reject with all the power that I posses.
With this new context in mind, I now follow on the path of self improvement. I will now begin to mold my Self into my perfected idea of how the Self should be. This is certainly a significant undertaking, one that will not be easy to follow through on but one that I ultimately have to do. To me such context is essential. It is akin to a Guiding Star shining in the night. I will follow this Star for without it I am lost in the vast Darkness.
Looking back at my life, it was suboptimal, especially if one compares the way it molded me to how I will now mold myself. I suppose I must look on with a hint of regret at all that time which one might consider to be lost. Still... I try to stave off such decisively negative interpretations, after all, I have ultimately came to these conclusions. That means that somewhere along the line I had to have picked up on enough of such ideas for them to become so cemented in my consciousness. Well, either that or I was always like this, but in that case I can at least thank my life up to this point for not being able to supress such manifestations of my inner most Self.
To add to the topic of my life, I must admit that not all the battles have yet been won, not all the Demons vanquished, not every Mountain climbed. I want you to keep such things in mind when deciding whether or not to approach me. Many will shy away, I undestand that much, but the pursuit of true Companionship is just another such battle. Having said all that I do believe that being able to overcome hurdles together carries with it a certain appeal. That is to say, what's the fun in joining once the Game is already over?
I don't shy away from such challenges, perhaps to a fault. Certain troubles that I faced in the past carry with them a long shadow over my current health and well being. Still, I intend to change little in this regard other than the proficiency with which I will clash the current of my Will against the cliffs of Life.
Part II
In this part of my post I will tell you about my interests and hobbies, I will try to be thorough, commonality in this regard is rather important to build a relationship
History. I have had an interest in history for almost a decade now, it started back in school and developed from there. Well, now that I think about it one could argue that it started even earlier in my life as I liked watching the odd historic documentary or film aired on television but it wasn't regular back then, I never actively sought it out. I am mostly interested in European history in the period between the 18th-20th century but I sometimes branch out to other time periods and other parts of the world. I watch various channels related to history and read articles and sometimes books. I have recently got a few books on the German revolution of 1848/1849 and a historical magazine on the Thirty Years' War. Besides that I try to visit museums sometimes.
Literature. Especially old novels. I like to immerse myself in the Worlds of these books, I tend to read them while listening to thematically fitting music and take my time with them. One time you are following a troubled Youth in his quest for spiritual understanding of the world, another you see the aged and decrepit Doctor gambling his very Soul on the promises of abtaining satisfaction in earthy pleasures, then again your olfaction notices the most pleasant scent known to man even as the one eminating it has the appearance of a revolting Frog. These and many other stories open up to you once you decide to set foot into the literary World.
Languages. I know three, with one being a bit rusty. I am currently working intently on strengthening it. I believe that if I continue to apply myself in this regard then I should be able to finally conquer it. What language am I working on? Well, if you were to stack all the major works in it they would be as tall as a house... It is fun to go through different works in multiple languages, the same goes for film, games and such.
Games. I recently played Cyberpunk 2077. Well as recently as I played any major story centric game. Now that the dust has settled and the bugs mostly removed...It's not that bad. The main questline at least. Besides that I tried Fallout 76 (Very average, I'm dissapointed with what they made the "RPG" system) and I might give Deus Ex Manking Divided another spin (since it's somewhat similar to Cyberpunk when it comes to its aesthetics). Dark Souls is one of my favorite series, I still haven't beaten Elden Ring though. When it came out I wasn't in the right mindset to invest a hundred hours into it, with all those bosses and difficult locations. I think I'll only consider playing it if I am streaming it to someone. I am generally interested in either streaming games or having the person I am talking to stream them to me. To be specific I mean streaming to a single person while being on call. Besides that I'm a big fan of Paradox strategy games, especially Europa Universalis IV and Heats of Iron IV, I tend to only play single player since I find multiplayer with many people to be rather stressful but on the other hand I have nothing against a co-op game. I'm not the best player though, despite the ammount of hours I have in them. Another great game I would mention would be Dragon's Dogma. A very underrated RPG. I recently beat it again and it was an atmospheric and interesting experience. It is one of those games that feel like they have an endless ammount of depth and constant new secrets to discover.
Anime and Manga. In recent times my interest in them has waned but I still watch the occasional series here and there. Like Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Which I found to be rather mediocre) and the very good first season from the new arc of Bleach. Some of my favourite series include: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Fate;Zero, Psycho Pass, Code Geass and Attack on Titan. I wouldn't mind if you were to introduce me to some new series, maybe based on the ones I mentioned. My favourite Manga is Berserk which I still follow, althought I am still not certain on the direction that the new author is taking. I suppose it really is a matter of contention whether a somewhat (or considerably warped) vision is better than an unfinished work. One could argue that a few novels remain unfinished and possess a macabre appeal to them as such.
Music. Classical music has a very special place in my heart. A few of my favourite pieces would be: Clair de Lune, Nocturne Op. 9 No.2, Devil's Trill Sonata, Danse Macabre, Valse Sentimentale, Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92: II. Alegreto (by Beethoven) and Suite from Swan Lake, Op. 20a: I. Scene. Moderato. There are more but these ones always invoke something in me when I listen to them. Besides Classical I also enjoy listening to Synthwave, old Western pop and J-pop, both modern and from the 20th century.
Esotericism. I am interested in things spiritual, mystical, magical and esoteric. I have read religios texts, magical grimoires, introductions to various schools of thought. It is interesting to me.
Epilogue
Hopefully I was able to cast the spotlight upon my inner World in a clear and unequivocal manner. I feel the need to add to the aforementioned that I am rather introverted, which means that I tend to dislike large social gatherings. I managed to condition myself to be able to endure the presense of large groups of people but it isn't something that I would seek out in most cases. Besides that I am neurodivergent and suffer from certain issues with mental health. I have to take medication to keep myself under control. They work well enough but certain days are harder than others. I respect the struggle that others have with mental health but in the context of a relationship I have my limits, no one with BDP for instance. I am also not looking for anything casual. I understand than one cannot demand depth and meaning from a conversation with an absolute stranger, that is akin to trying to build a sand castle right before the waves strike but I ask at least that you enter with a mindset that this might become something of significance. I also do want to say that I am completely Monogamous. My preference? The sickly, pale, intellectual who watches rain droplets slide down the window in Autumn. Lastly, if I enjoy the company of a person I tend to not want to let them go.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and have a good day. I ask that you send a DM instead of a chat and that you give your thoughts on my title in the opening of your message.
Goodbye...Or perhaps untill we meet again

2024.05.13 22:34 cgnthreesix [TOMT] [Videogame] Tower of babel?
Hi! I‘m looking for a videogame - I played the demo for this game ages ago, perhaps between 2011 and 2013. I don’t remember much, but I think the point was to build a tower but I also seem to remember that you could control sand(?) perhaps to build the tower? I think I saw a video from german video game outlet „Game One“ about it at the time, but wasn’t able to find it just now, dunno if that helps. I know that’s not much, but maybe somebody knows this game. Thanks a ton!

2024.05.13 22:16 Haryuu-ffs Kind of lost with itemization / decision making
Hi everyone,
I've been playing ER for about a week now, and even though I have tons of things to learn, I like to understand completely what I'm doing when itemizing in games (for instance I like to understand why I build a particular item in mobas).
ER is a bit more tricky to me for two reasons :
- There's a farming route that is not negligeable especially when legendary item is made of out early game route.
- Builds are based on ressources and not only on credit which makes universal flexibility impossible.
I'm taking my marks with kind of all types of characters but Haze is the character I'm struggling most to build.
I'm using
dak.gg data base to get characters infos & using master tab to check out what very good people do with their itemization, allowing me to see (a little bit) my build order but there plenty of variations I honestly can't understand because I lack data and game knowledge.
The easiest problem to tackle is the anti-heal itemization as it is very simple to understand when you need it and when you don't, but I'm having hard times understand why sometime it is placed on boots, or sometimes armes (talking about Haze but this character just exposed how little I knew about the game).
This leads to some clunky gameplay with me getting a baseline combinations of items I can use and try to get the most out of them while avoiding too expensive or repetitive builds (I dislike going for 2 mithrils for instance as it is not very flexibles and expensive) and this drives me crazy because at the end of the day I didn't get any clue on what I did wrong and what I should have done to get better results (skill issues aparts of course lmao). Some people I've tracked records on master may build both Nightmare Nails and Legs of Steel and I can't really understand why (they are Mythril +)
Sorry for this long speech, I tried to stayed focus on what I wanted to ask you guys and any advice or informations source I could have is very welcomed as the game has not a huge visibility and thus it's hard to find popular and viable data. (For instance I don't want to be the guy who just get on moba fire to get a league of legends builds, because builds there are sometime meeeh, and at the end of the day, copycat-ing wont allow me to progress).
Thanks a lot for your time, I really appreciate it.

2024.05.13 22:16 SquadronROE Need a solid silo strategy
So I'm finally close to launching a nuke, but I get my world rocked by all the bots in the silo. I burned through almost all my weapons (the good ones broke), ran out of grenades and mines, and then eventually the game crashed out right as I was about to complete the mainframe section.
I'm level 55, and right now my build has rifleman traits and lockpick traits to help me get through the silo.
The weapons I'm running with are:
Black powder rifle / pistol (rifle has instigator so it's great with stealth one-shots, pistol has juggernaut but is high-ish damage), lever action rifle, and a handmade. I'm barely doing any damage to anything unless I stealth + black powder it, and then run away.
Any tips or tricks for silo-ing? I don't have Holy Fire or really a ton of unique guns, although I do have the Hellfire power armor.

2024.05.13 21:51 PEP7s Has anyone cracked the drop chance for keys yet ?
For the life of me if I find another f-ing BL Shack (ten or twelfth at that point) I'm gonna lose it.
I get that some keys are rarer and stuff, but come on! 1) You have to get a chopper to get to the desired location (!!!!), with half people staying silent when asked where their chopper goes 2) Once on location, you have to pray that you're not too late and that another faction hasn't already been decimating the NPCs 3) You have to wipe every single AI and loot every single one of them. Every.Single.One. Even that one guy you popped off 10min ago hidden in a bush 4) You can hope to find keys if other players don't loot them before you do 5) When you find keys, it's often the same AND it has no value ! (BL Shack hits hard) 6) Then it's time to wait again a good 6-7min (best case scenario !) for a chopper to be available so you can hope to go back to base
Not everybody can dedicate that much time finding ONE key needed for ONE mission. And when I see the time I invested finding those keys and the return, it hurts.
The game is super great, but a few QOL improvements are needed. This is one of them.
Much love, and thanks to the devs.

2024.05.13 21:49 Oneironautiluss A list of all unique monster battle interactions and breakable parts with their effects
Caveat that I am not saying this IS a comprehensive list yet, I just didn't find any source online that managed to capture everything I know so I'm putting what I know here in hopes that others will add to it and it gets put into a wiki or somewhere consolidated that looks prettier than this reddit post.
If there already is a list then please forgive and enlighten me.
- Cyclops: Breakable Parts; Tusks, Armor
- Hitting their eye will enrage and "blind" them temporarily. I don't know what temporarily blinding them does except to be a spot of increased damage and pissing them off
- knocking them over certain key terrain
- bridges/ravines will make them reach out to the other side while keeping their feet propped up on the original side in a hilarious wannabe spiderman cyclops bridge formation.
- near walls can have them hit their head and instantly topple them rather than just down to their knees
- When they are on their knees you can grab their hands and pull them to knock them down prone
- If they have a helmet on you can grab it while theyre prone and pull it off
- Hitting their weapon hand will cause them to drop it, but eventually they will try to find it and pick it back up. i have tried many techniques to dispose of the weapon but have never successfully interacted with it on the ground
- I have heard as the trickster if you place your clone on their face, they will bonk their own face. I have not confirmed this.
- This isn't a weakness and vulnerable spot post but because Cyclops' have a PARTICULAR weakness against electricity I feel like it's worth mentioning they get stunned much easier than other monsters due to their fleshy surface area I guess.
- Ogre Breakable Parts; Hands
- They fixate on women and if a male is feminine appearing it will trick the ogre and they will become extra enraged when they find out a feminine appearing male is actually a dude. Not super sure if they become easier to enrage for the rest of the battle
- You can break their hands. This takes a lot of damage and is kind of hard to justify over hitting their head. Supposedly this makes it easier to break out of their grip but i can't say I've definitely noticed a difference in battle when after I broke their hands
- When they are curled up and covering their head like a jiu-jitsu turtle move you can grab their hands and pull them out of it. I assume this would prone them, but I've never gotten to their arms in enough time to actually finish pulling them out of it. They are stubborn.
- GORE VERSION: I don't THINK it's any different. Just stronger and uglier
- Griffin Breakable Parts: None
- Not much here except that they are super vulnerable to being set on fire which will knock them out of the sky
- Maybe it's worth saying you can ride them to their nest if you want an extra method of really inconvenient faster travel
- Chimera Breakable Parts: Goat head, Lion Head, Snake head, Snake body(severed)
- The last phase of this fight will be different depending on if you killed the Goat head or Lion head first. The last one alive will become a bit empowered and be extra annoying to deal with
- You can cut the snake head off after you kill it. I don't know what the point is other than possibly an extra chance at grabbing a monster drop, but I've only ever gotten a measly beast skin from the snake part
- After you kill either the goat or the lion it becomes SUPER easy to knock over. since it's out of balance
- GORE VERSION: I don't believe you can cut off the tail, but silencing the Goat will prevent it from resurrecting the other heads
- Garm Breakable Parts: none
- Worg Breakable Parts: none
- Also big puppy. Oh I forgot, I haven't confirmed it but they possible have the same inclination towards dropped meat or meat in your packs as wolves. See note below because that's when I remembered. I mix these two up a lot and honestly they are one of the rarest monsters for me.
- Minotaur Breakable Parts: Horns
- You can break the horns obviously and trick it into ramming a wall which will stun them
- I have tried to attack their weapon hand but I have never been able to get them to drop it
- GORE VERSION: Like the ogre. No differences I've noticed other than stronger and uglier.
- Drakes Breakable Parts: Chest, Wings(slashed)
- Obviously hitting the chest breaks open their heart cavity which reveals their only true weakpoint
- Supposedly you can slash their wings. I've never done it but I imagine it would prevent them from flying away
- They shit talk you and wanna cash you ouside
- Dragons Breakable Parts: All the boils and pus sacks.....gross
- Not sure if the wings are also slash able
- Dullahan Breakable Parts: Just the flames of your own ambition
- They will help you put your foolish ambitions to rest
- They don't even give AF about the brine. They are immune to it and will write your meager attempt on your grave
- Enough hits to the head will stagger it and put it on it's knees temporarily until it feels like it has given thee courtesy enough
- If your strength befits a crown they still don't give AF because they wear two severed heads with crowns as a predator's battle trophy.
- Sphinx Breakable Parts: Consent
- Don't touch her no-no zone. If you attack her human parts she doesn't like that and I think will immediately fly away to file a restraining order and won't show up again in your game. I figured out the clues to hit her beast half so I'm not sure EXACTLY the repercussions since I am also a big fan of enthusiastic consent.
- She doesn't mind rides though so you can ride her from her first location to her second if you can act fast enough to grab on.
- Liches and Wights: Breakable parts, none.
- Straightforward fight. Did not notice any unique interactions or mechanics. One of them said something about interrupting him and how dare I (in the waterfall cave I believe) The others weren't as conversationalist as that one for me, Sad.
Small enemies I won't do an individual breakdown for each one but
- If you kill the biggest most leaderist looking hobgoblin the others will supposedly scatter. I'm either too busy looking for my life alert because i cant get up while getting curb stomped by Mad Max's Mordor little league team or too busy thinking about how much I dislike sand as I wipe out every last one of them to notice their behavior change all that much
- Oil oozes combust with fire, Other oozes freeze super easy and make them vulnerable to physical attacks
- You can grab onto harpies and sort of kind of steer them after you give up pointing at a 4 foot cliff with a 3 foot jump to your Patrick faced pawn with springboard for the 234th time.
- Wolves will be attracted to whoever has the most meat in their packs and will be distracted by dropped meat
- Saurians: Tails obviously. I have tried to see if there was any differencce in spawn time if I burned and destroyed all the eggs in a cave. I don't think there is but have not confirmed.
- Phantasms, ghosts, and such: They are attracted to your lantern light but not as much as my ice volley shot is attracted to them. Fie upon them and their bullshit guerilla warfare.
- Bandits: I have never tried carrying one into jail but let me know if any of you pull this off and if it was worth it.
That's all I got. Let me know if Im missing anything or if got anything wrong or if I completely wasted my time here and this already exists but better and prettier somewhere else.

2024.05.13 21:35 it_rains_blue_here Thank you, everyone. [just silly rambles][I need help][not a script!][CW: mild swearing and 1 JJK spoiler]
Part 1: The Coughing Fit You are seated in some kind of hall. It’s open air, so you can see the stars. A bunch of strange characters are seated around you. You see a dragon girl huffing in annoyance, “This is crazy! I mean, I know he wrote me in a script and all but why do I have to be here?”
“Hey, maybe this won’t be so bad!” A girl with cat ears and a swishing tail responds cheerfully. “I was bored anyway and I hear they’ll be giving out cookies later!”
“Sssh, you guys!” A beautiful woman responds.
Well, she seems pretty normal, you think. Then you notice the fish tail. It’s a freaking mermaid. “Look”, she says, “I think they’re starting!”
You look at the stage. Two guys are indeed standing up there. One of them is wearing a really cool-looking suit and has a stylized, ornate insignia emblazoned on it. “Audio Artist”, it reads. He’s one of them! He’s one of ‘em VAs! He’s really suave but he appears mildly peeved. “You couldn’t make a simple ‘thank you’ post, could you? No, you just HAD to weird everyone out with your shenanigans!”
“This was the only way.” The other guy finally speaks up. “We doing this for Nanami.”
“Fuck you! Nanami dead! Have you not been keeping up with the show?!”
“Well, if he were here, I don’t think he’d object.”
“Why are we even talking about this?”
“I don’t know. Anyway, I gotta go out there. Give Stephanie my love.”
“I can’t even give her mine- she’s taken- how the hell am I supposed to give her yours?”
“You’ve been crushing on her for way too long, man. You need to move on.”
“Yeah, why don’t you write a script about it?”
“I just might! Anyway...”
The guy walks up to the mic. He looks about twenty- or something, you really can’t tell from this distance- and clears his throat. Only to begin coughing immediately. “Damn”, he wheezes, “why did I think this would be a good idea?”
Hey, everyone! I realized I’ve been here for almost half a year now. Just wanted to sincerely thank you for filling, reading and/or commenting on my scripts! It really is a strange feeling to hear someone recording something you’ve written. It’s not like I have a whole lot of fills, and I don’t keep a count (why actively flirt with Depression when she’s yandere for you anyway?) but I’ve received more than I could’ve imagined when I started writing. I read every comment and I listen to every fill, and I truly appreciate them all. Thank you so much :-)
PART 2: The Cookie Quest Damn, that speech dragged. You’re walking around outside the hall, wondering when you’ll wake up from this stupid dream. Suddenly, a pale woman who’s creating and destroying little ice-shards above her palm (for fun) approaches you. “Hey there!”
You ask her what script she’s supposed to be from. “That’s not important! If you know, you know. Anyway, I was going to say…they’re serving cookies over there! Loads of them!”
You look at where she’s pointing. It’s some kind of banquet hall. For cookies. There’s a lot you want to say but for now, some cookies would be great actually. You thank her and dash over to the banquet hall. Before you can look for cookies, the guy who gave that speech earlier blocks your path. “Hey there! So I feel like I should tell you a bit about myself.”
You really don’t have to, I just came here for- “Yes, I know right?! So, I’ve been listening to ASMR on and off for a few years. I think of it as a really immersive 2
nd person form of storytelling. Listening to audios is fun, and so is writing scripts! If you’re a listener and ever want ASMR recommendations, at least for F4A/F4M, then definitely hit me up!”
You wouldn’t, perchance, happen to know where the cookies are, would you? “Oh, and I’m taking prompts now! No commissions, because I don't deserve your money! If you have an idea you’d like me to write a script on, feel free to DM me. The prompt can be as brief or as detailed as you like, and I’ll do my best to tailor it accordingly. But I feel like I should give you a few samples of my stuff, in case you’re curious.”
So….about the cookies…. “Ah yes, here’s
Sample1!
Not expecting this bit of shameless self-promotion, you try to steer the conversation towards more important topics.
So, what flavours do you have? Chocolate, coconut, almond, butterscotch- any of them….? “Indeed I do! I’ve written quite a few scripts so far, and I’ve tried to explore different themes. This is
sample2!
There never were any cookies, were there? “Cookies? Like, internet cookies and stuff? Yeah, I’m not sure about reddit’s cookie policy. What I AM sure about though, is that I got the right hyperlink. Here’s
sample3!
He seems a little confused by your expression.
There better be an apology coming up…. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I forgot to mention that I have more scripts in a pinned post on my profile. It’s not fully updated, but if you ever want to take a look, well, you’re more than welcome! Okay then, see you later!”
But I just came here for the cookies… PART 3: The Needlessly Dramatic You’re at a deserted beach. There’s nobody around for miles, except for that suave audio artist from earlier, and that idiot who never pointed you towards the exact location of the cookies. You did eventually find them, but you wouldn’t go to that much trouble for any baked goods again. Anyway, the two of them are busy staring off into the distance, at the endless expanse of blue ocean, like they’re posing for the cover of some chill indie rock album.
You look at the ocean too, but then it clicks. There are mermaids playing water polo out there. They giggle every so often and swim close to the shore to wave and wink at the onlookers. The audio artist guy waves back. “I will admit, it’s not so bad hanging out in the world inside your head from time to time, Rain. Stuff is weird in here, but I’m not complaining. How’d you even come up with mermaid water polo?”
“I didn’t. Read a sentence in an Old Spice advert once.”
“Ah, the art of casually ripping off! Classic Rains!”
“What is wrong with you?! I just like coming to this beach to chill and do nothing for a while, you know? Helps me come up with script ideas sometimes.”
“Like what? ‘Professional water polo mermaid sees you at her game and turns yandere for you?’ “
“That was not what I was talking about, no, but thank you. I’ll note that one down.”
You hear seagulls and sea-waves. And the ever-present laughter of mermaids in the distance.
Is water polo really that enjoyable? “I feel like there’s something I should have done a long time ago.”
“Written a sequel to your vampire script?”
“….No. You know what? It’d be easier to just show you.” The guy stands up and dusts off all the sand clinging to his clothes. It doesn’t really help, but…
“What are you doing?”
“By the power vested in me by free will and pure whimsy, and the powerful and potent miracle of basic subreddit features- ya, by the power of mouse and monitor and a working hand, eyes, brain-“
“Last one’s debatable.”
“-nose, ears, and all the mortal lineaments that do make up the human constitution, I hereby- with the mermaids playing polo over yonder as my witness- give unto myself…”
The other guy raises an eyebrow. You watch the scene unfolding with sheer incredulity.
Yes? “….the user flair of
writer.” “Bro, what the fu-“
“Purely for convenience, of course. I don’t want to get mistaken for a VA. Again.”

2024.05.13 21:23 BlueJayWC Fan Speculation/Theory: Ever wondered how many soldiers the NCR/Legion has? Here's my findings
So for starters, it's important to distinguish between a game's meta-lore and the restrictions based on gameplay. If you count up the total number of NCR soldiers in-game, it will add up to around 200 (according to the wiki). But obviously 200 soldiers is not the total number, it's just the number of NPC that the engine can handle. This is common throughout many RPGs, just like how a big battle in Skyrim only has a couple dozen NPCs or how in Fallout 2, Shady Sands had a population of 3000 and yet maybe only 100 actual NPCs in-game.
Let's shoot out some numbers based on dialogue; Lt. Haggerty at Helios ONE claims that the NCR outnumbered the Brotherhood 20-1 during Operation Sunburst. It's unknown how many knights and Paladins the Brotherhood had, but I'm going to assume 100. Veronica states that half the Brotherhood died at this battle, and since Hidden Bunker has around 50 NPCs, I believe that's a reasonable assumption. Of course, if we use the same logic as stated above, the Mojave Brotherhood could have had 200, 300, or 500 for all we know; regardless, in the interest of moderation, I'll stick with 100 for now, and the smaller a faction is the more likely their actual in-game numbers are supposed to reflect their population.
So, in other words, the NCR had 2000 soldiers at Helios One. Elder McNamarra, after the courier hands in the scout reports, states that the NCR has increased their presence in the area by 5x since Helios ONE, for a grand total of 10,000 soldiers.
Seems a lot, but this relies on a bit of speculation since no numbers are actually stated, just ratios and multiplications. However, Chief Hanlon gives a firm number; he says that 1000 NCR soldiers die a year in the Mojave. T
he US army field manual 101-5-1 states that a unit becomes combat ineffective at 31% losses. Assuming 10% deaths, with an equal of unrecoverable wounded, the NCR loses 20% of it's strength in a year. This reflects the depiction of the NCR in-game as while they hold the line, they are not "combat ineffectively", just severely pushed to the limit.
Another hard number to throw into the mix; the NCR pamphlet in Fallout 2 states that the NCR has a population of 700,000. Due to territorial expansion and population growth, the NCR probably has at least 1 million citizens in 2281. With an army in the low tens of thousands, this would be an effective population-to-miltary ratio.
Again this all a bit of speculation, and just an excuse to show how much I care about the game. Let's do the Legion now
The Legion is a bit interesting because their units seem to follow the Roman structure exactly, which were rigid and less fluid like a modern day military (or the NCR). A "tent-group" (contubernia) had 10 members, led by a decanus ("leader of ten"). In the Roman legion, however, only 8 contubernia members were actually legionaries, just like in-game where a contubernia has 8 legionaries. The other 2 were non-combatants. In the Roman Empire, they would be servants, grooms, slaves or engineers, and in New Vegas they would be represented in-game as slaves, the support class which were vital for the Legion's logistics.
Centuries are mentioned in-game in dialogue, and Centurions (leader of a hundred) are also a rank. The Offical Game Guide also claims that Cohorts (6 centuries, 480 legionaires with 120 slaves) also exist, but again because of the limitations of the game-engine, the entire Legion presence in the Mojave would be a single cohort.
Now here's the tricky party; what about the "Legion"? It's is Caesar's Legion after all. Assuming the pattern holds, does Caesar's Legion hold a total of ~5000 soldiers? After all ,Lanius is the only legate present in the game, and every Roman legion was commanded by one Legate. What's interesting about this is that Legate Lanius, presumably the only legate in Caesar's singular Legion, isn't
actually the only legate. Caesar and Ulysses state that there other legates, both past and present.
If this is the case, and the aforementioned logic above still applies, this means that Caesar's Legion has multiple legions and possibly tens of thousands of soldiers. Legate Lanius arriving to lead the battle of Hoover Dam might mean that Caesar's Legion receives an entire legion (Lanius' legion) as reinforcements. Lanius being the most important (and visible) legate relates to the Roman term "primus inter pares" (first among equals), which explains why Lanius kills other Legates who failed Caesar even though they're the same rank.
Since the Legion is also implied to outnumber the NCR in the Mojave (not the total manpower of the NCR however), it's possible that the Legion has anywhere from 15-20,000 legionaires in the Mojave.
tl;dr I might be obsessed with New Vegas.

2024.05.13 21:22 basedsega Bad press could be ea’s downfall
Kinda proud of how the community has reacted to the bullshit that’s been going on with this game . One of the main things I would do if you really want change is to try to contact some youtubers that cover video game news . One of the only YouTubers I watch like that is some ordinary gamer who already has a distaste for ea and I don’t think it’s out the realm of him covering what’s going on in our community over here . I tried dm’ing him and tweeting him so maybe if more people could help with this effort we can at least can get some media coverage from people outside the fifa community .
Edit: if you disagree and think this is silly that’s perfectly fine but be aware there’s a chance ea is paying people to say this is bullshit and won’t do anything …. I won’t say who but if you go through this thread and look at peoples comments you will see they have no post history and all there comments are them shitting on anyone trying to protest … may not be a ea employee but then that’s even sadder lmao.

2024.05.13 21:20 Hyperchema [FC][Aether][Gilgamesh][MC][LFM] is looking for more to join us as we embark for Dawntrail!
We are Midnight Sands— a small FC founded by a group of cross-game friends who have come to call The Source our home. We started as the wow guild Ember Sands but have since expanded into a true gaming community. No matter what game we play, we have a great time playing with great friends and are looking for more to join us here in FFXIV.
Although we might have met in wow, in FFXIV we have people of all skill levels ranging from seasoned vets to fresh sprouts and have been spending this time before Dawntrail experiencing everything the game has to offer. We have recently pushed through pandaemonium savage prog and with that taste of end-game, we are absolutely stoked to hit the ground running on launch. Our statics are still taking shape and we hope to have several going strong once we all finish the new MSQ.
But beyond end-game content, we all just love playing this game together. We’ve gone back and run old raids and extreme trials, both synced and unsynced. We run maps, do our rolos, go clubbing and everything in between. We also have a beautiful house in Lavender Beds with a fantastic herd of loporrit attendees.
We’re not a giant FC and have no desire to be. We recruit for people, not for numbers so those we have all make a big impact. We are comfortably active and have people on most times through a variety of time zones. It’s not uncommon to find people chilling in voice coms just looking to chat and hang out. We even have a strong Work From Home community for all those daytime warriors.
If you’re looking for a chill community of players and want to join us as we prepare for the New World, I’d love to chat!
Hit me up on Discord:

2024.05.13 21:02 DickBallsley Collection of my best awesome new stratagem ideas
So, I’ve been mentioning some ideas for future stratagems here and there, and thought to bring them all together into one post. Just thought you guys might like them, so here they are:
“Car” - it drops a regular, yellow car, the same way we order mechs. You can use it to drive around and it comes with a spare tire and cool windshield wipers. The gas is limited, so the team resupply gets replaced with gas cans. It can get stuck in snow, sand and hard terrain in general, but you can call an Eagle to tow it.
“Orbital Peepee Strike” - it is pretty much a railcannon strike but it shoots you instead of the enemies. It hits three times, in case you survive by wearing armour with that “50% chance not to die” perk. If you somehow still manage to survive three strikes, the game deletes itself from your drive and you have to install it again.
“Eagle 5000000kg bomb” - works the same way as a 500 but it’s bigger. The input is so long that it takes up an entire screen. It’s a high skill-high reward stratagem. When it drops, the explosion destroys the entire planet and it disappears until the galactic war is reset. You also win the game and have to sit through the credits (they’re unskippable but you can increase the scrolling speed).
“Scientist” - it drops a scientist npc in a hellpod. You interact with him to start a small escort quest. He runs faster than you jog, but slower than you sprint. He also has dialogue sometimes but usually not.
“Flag of Liberty” - it’s a support weapon. You can’t fight with it but you can wave it. Every time you do, it randomises the game language for everyone in the lobby. You also can never unequip it, if you die you spawn with it.
“Scuba Steve Diving Gear” - The name explains it all. It allows you to swim around in a pond, and dive underwater to search for treasure. Once you put it on, you will not be able to breathe while on land. Pretty much the same mechanic as swimming right now, where you drown after a bit, but reversed. To accommodate this new mechanic, every map in the game will be reworked to feature rivers and lakes as an alternative way to reach different parts of the map, and every objective will have an underwater section you can do instead. There will be sharks and electric eels, but your weapon will now be a harpoon gun. Also, scuba divers will evacuate by a submarine.

2024.05.13 20:50 Downtown_Ikea Theory: What happens to The Courier
We will talk about the ending of New Vegas first though, this is my reasoning:
Yes Man: I don't think that Vegas will become independent as we will be seeing The Courier will means Bethesda and Amazon will need to make a lot of The Couriers action throughout Fallout: New Vegas canon and non-canon which Bethesda doesn't really do. (For Example: We don't know jack about The Lone Wanderer apart from the fact he got the Megaton Sheriff killed by accident and he helped make The Wasteland Survival Guide).
NCR: I doubt the NCR will win Hoover Dam, since in the show the NCR is hanging on by tape and thread, it would make a large amount of New Vegas just pointless since in the end Hank made the second elephants foot in Shady Sands.
Caesar's Legion: This one is a bit of a stretch but I don't believe that Caesar and his merry band of romans will end up as the victors, because I think Todd is smart enough to know that making the evil faction as canon will upset the NCR purists as well as a number of regular fans, also (and this is just personal opinion) I don't think that the Legion really would fit FO:TV's general theme as apart from Lanius, Caesar, and Graham the faction as a whole is just kinda silly. One of the reasons the Legion works well the F:NV is because it doesn't feel as serious as other Fallout games, I mean one of the quests in the game has you resolve a turf war between a bunch of Elvis impersonators and America II where as in FO:TV a technology-obsessed, militaristic self-serving army and a nation trying to build a new nation in the image of the old fights it out over a technology (that the remnants of pre-war America made), a technology that a 200-year old scientist needs to create a virtually infinite amount of electricity.
Mr. House: Process of elimination leads us to House winning, I also don't think much more needs to be said.
The 5th Option: The Tunnellers made it out of The Divide and killed everyone, probably not gonna happen though, it would be funny if it did though.
The Courier: Enough about the factions, time to talk about The Courier; when you completing the side-quest Oh My Papa you have the option of telling Papa Khan to stop staying in the past and to look forward instead by leaving the Mojave Wasteland behind, if you end up making that decision the ending slides will tell you that The Great Khans travelled to Wyoming, where they reconnected with the Followers of the Apocalypse, who taught them economics, transport, and governance using those skills they carved a mighty empire out of the American Northwest. During the quest Oh My Papa after you tell Papa Khan that he should leave the Mojave he tells The Courier that if he's ever tired of wandering alone, that he [The Courier] has the makings of a Great Khan, what I think happened is that after The Courier secured Hoover Dam for Mr. House he travelled to Wyoming to join the Great Khan.
TL:DR House won, Courier joined the Khans.
