The Great Wall and Wall Street: Become a Better Trader by Understanding the Perils of 🇨🇳 Chinese Companies on 🇺🇸 U.S. Exchanges
⚠️ Attention all traders and holders of Chinese stocks: You should read this if you don’t know what a VIE is. Sure, most of you will be repelled by the great wall of text here (so many words!), but you might want to keep this post nearby.
Hello. You are aware that Wall Street’s bustling bazaar hosts a veritable Forbidden City of Chinese companies draped in ticker tape rather than silk. Today, I will provide background and data on all allowed Chinese companies listed on three of the largest U.S. stock exchanges: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and NYSE American.
I should note that a bustling troupe of 26 national securities exchanges are registered with the SEC in the United States. Most are owned by the Nasdaq, NYSE, or the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE).
Nonetheless, based on data from the World Federation of Exchanges as of August 2023, the NYSE and Nasdaq were the top two exchanges behemoths of the global financial stage, accounting for 42.4% of the total $110.2 trillion in valuation traded across 80 major global exchanges.
🖼️ I had a photo of Wall Street to add here, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
2022 vs. 2023
According to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, as of January 8, 2024, there were 265 Chinese companies listed on the three U.S. exchanges, with a total market capitalization of $848 billion. That valuation is down from a year prior—January 9, 2023—when a slightly lower 252 Chinese companies were tracked, but they represented a total market capitalization of $1.03 trillion.
Since January 2023, 24 Chinese companies have entered the spotlight of the three U.S. exchanges, raising $656 million in combined initial public offerings (IPOs). On the other hand, eleven Chinese companies have folded their tents and delisted.
China Securities Regulatory Commission
The American stock exchanges witnessed a springtime bloom of Chinese IPOs in the first quarter of 2023. However, this listing activity came to an abrupt halt as the clock struck March 31, 2023.
Why? The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) implemented a revised approval process for companies going public overseas.
I won’t get into the details, but China has rules to cap foreign investment and ownership in sectors deemed strategic, such as technology. In the past, those regulations have driven several Chinese firms to the legal gymnastics of a Variable Interest Entity (VIE) structure—a clever contrivance that allowed them to leapfrog domestic constraints.
However, under the revised review mechanism, every company, regardless of its corporate ownership structure, must now bow before the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to register its intent to list overseas.
🖼️ I had a photo of the CSRC building to add here, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
The gatekeeper
Therefore, although the CSRC touted this regulation as a necessary measure for enforcing regulatory compliance and preventing fraud (which is true), it also helps regulators act as gatekeepers poised to block any proposed listing they deem poses a risk to their national security or jeopardizes China's national interests.
This process is wide-ranging. For instance, it includes an evaluation of the company’s safeguards against disclosing what the Chinese Communist Party considers potential state secrets. But we’re not talking about top-secret black-ops projects meant to be hidden from international oversight committees. No… any company that collects personal information on more than one million users requires stern data security review mechanisms for its cross-border data flows.
For perspective, TikTok has over 150 million users in the U.S. alone and is not subject to the same scrutiny from the Western nations.
Currently, the CSRC approval process is reportedly taking upward of six months.
Audit inspections and investigations in China
You’re probably unaware of the HFCAA, so let’s start there.
The Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act of 2020 (HFCAA) is a law that requires companies publicly listed on stock exchanges in the U.S. to disclose to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) information on foreign jurisdictions that prevent the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from conducting inspections.
That law laid down a stern ultimatum: If Chinese authorities kept obstructing the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from inspecting audit firms in China or Hong Kong for three consecutive years, the companies audited by these entities would face a ban from the bustling arenas of the U.S. exchanges.
Basically, either China allowed the PCAOB to inspect the audit firms, or the companies had to change to another auditing firm within three years.
Then, as 2022 waned to its final days (literally, on December 29), President Joe Biden signed a Consolidated Appropriations Act, which contained a provision that will tighten the noose, shortening future timelines from three consecutive years to only two.
Once they looked under the rock
Finally allowed to conduct full investigations of audit firms in mainland China and Hong Kong after over a decade of obstruction, the PCAOB announced the findings of its first round of inspections in May 2023, identifying deficiencies in seven of eight audits conducted by the auditing firms KPMG Huazhen and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Hong Kong. Audits of Chinese Companies Are Highly Deficient, U.S. Regulator Says
On November 30, 2023, the PCAOB announced fines against three audit firms in China, totaling $7.9 million for misconduct. For perspective, that number included the second and third-largest fines ever doled out by the PCAOB.
Why were the fines so bad?
Those sneaky Chinese accountants
Imagine a gaggle of accountants in the far reaches of PwC China and Hong Kong applying for a U.S. auditing curriculum. But alas, these foreign accountants find the U.S. auditing training tests a trifle tedious, so someone came up with the answers and decided to pass them around like a secret note in a schoolroom.
From 2018 to 2020, over 1,000 of these busy bees completed their U.S. auditing online exams by copying the answers from two unauthorized apps with a fervor that would make a gossip columnist blush.
When confronted with the evidence, PwC China and PwC Hong Kong response: 🤷‍♂️
And let me remind you, this happened late last year. Both firms are expected to provide reasonable assurance that their personnel will act with integrity in connection with internal training and to report their compliance to the PCAOB within 150 days—April 2024.
🖼️ I was planning on using an AI-generated image of Chinese accountants cheating, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
State-owned enterprises
According to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, this graph represents the total market capitalization of Chinese companies listed in the three U.S. exchanges.
Market Capitalization of Listed Chinese Companies
The number of listed companies has stayed at around 260. However, all Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have delisted themselves from U.S. exchanges, most of them soon after the PCAOB announced it had secured complete access to Chinese auditors’ records.
Variable Interest Entities (VIEs)
Most traders—and that means you—are unaware that 166 Chinese companies currently listed on the three major U.S. exchanges use a VIE structure.
As of January 8, 2024, these companies have a market capitalization of $772 billion. For perspective, that represents 91% of the total market capitalization of all the Chinese firms listed on the three major U.S. exchanges.
What the hell is a VIE?
It is a complex corporate structure that grants shareholders contractual claims to control via an offshore shell company without transferring actual ownership in the company.
A Variable Interest Entity (VIE) is a bit like a riverboat casino’s cleverest trick, allowing a company to sell its chips on a foreign table without ever letting the players hold the cards directly.
A VIE is a structure used primarily by companies that wish to partake in the financial streams of another country (the U.S. exchanges) without breaking local laws (Chinese laws) that prevent full ownership.
Remember, Chinese companies structured themselves as VIEs to circumvent China’s restrictions—not U.S. restrictions—on foreign ownership in industries the CCP deems sensitive.
Therefore, when you hold stock in one of these Chinese companies, you’re not officially holding any actual ownership in the company. Because if you did, then that company could be breaking Chinese restrictive caps on foreign investment and ownership.
That’s why they set up a façade, or a legal entity, that controls the business on paper, but the true power and profits are funneled back to the company pulling the strings.
Granted, it’s not as shaky as asking a random stranger to hold your shares, but it is crafty, and you should be aware of the risks.
Wait. What are the risks?
You need to understand that there’s a shadow of potential risk looming. Potential. Now, don't mistake me for the town crier of doom; I'm not proclaiming that the sky is falling on these shares. Nor am I declaring that disaster is certain for Chinese stocks.
What I am pointing out, however, is the presence of a risk—a subtle beast that might just catch you off guard if you remain unaware.
And let’s face it: Most of you are completely oblivious to these issues.
There are two sides here: 🇺🇸 & 🇨🇳
🇺🇸
Since July 2021, the SEC has imposed additional disclosure requirements for Chinese companies using a VIE to sell shares in the U.S. These requirements include greater transparency about the relationship between the VIE and its Chinese operating companies.
In summary, the SEC aims to push VIEs toward the company behind them to offer more clarity on U.S. investor ownership in the Chinese operating company.
🇨🇳
On the other side, Chinese companies that list overseas using a VIE were not required to register their listings with the CSRC, as the VIE is not considered a Chinese company under China’s law. This is the reason VIEs were used in the first place.
However, as I mentioned earlier, after March 31, 2023, the CSRC established requirements for all new Chinese companies to register and receive permission before going public overseas—even those planning to use VIE structures. That’s why there was a boom of Chinese IPOs before that deadline.
Granted, on September 14, 2023, a Chinese auto insurance platform became the first company that received the elusive blessing of the CSRC to list, and it did so using a VIE arrangement, breaking the long, dry spell that had plagued Chinese IPOs when she listed on the Nasdaq four days later.
However, even though VIEs received some sort of recognition from the CSRC, the VIE corporate structures still hold dubious legal status under China’s laws. Remember, VIEs purpose is to avoid being considered a Chinese company under China’s laws.
So… do you see the potential risk here?
Umm… No, I don’t get it.
Think about it. Either country could potentially increase regulations for VIEs, but if the SEC forces them to be more transparent, the VIE would not be able to circumvent China’s restrictions. That’s one risk.
Also, at some point, China’s CSRC might question whether it’s appropriate to recognize a corporate structure that was created to circumvent its laws.
Which leads me to this: What’s keeping the CCP from deciding to start reigning in those VIEs?
The answer is simple: They’re not in a hurry to do so because if misfortune should befall, it’ll be the foreign investors who’ll see their assets deflated like a punctured balloon.
🖼️ I would've added a nice image or two by now, to balance all the text and make this more appealing, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
If a VIE-listed company goes private at a lower valuation, businesses fail, or there’s a valuation discrepancy, the enforceability of a VIE’s contractual arrangements is unproven in Chinese courts. With VIE-listed companies, foreign investors’ recourse in the Chinese legal system is as elusive as a catfish’s whisper.
Yeah, but that’s unlikely…
Sure. Of course, I’m not saying every Chinese stock will have these issues. But it can happen. And it has happened.
The unlucky case of Luckin Coffee
Due to the lack of compliance with international audit inspections, Chinese corporate financial statements’ reliability for valuation and investment is not assured.
Such is the case of Luckin Coffee. In a bold bid to capture Wall Street’s hearts and wallets, Luckin Coffee showed up dressed in finery, flaunting alluring figures of revenue, operations, and bustling customer traffic.
At her grand debut, the stock sashayed onto the Nasdaq at $17, swirling up a storm of interested buyers to the tune of $561 million in capital.
For a fleeting moment, Luckin shimmered like a star over the financial firmament, boasting a market capitalization that soared to a heady $12 billion, with shares peaking just over $50.
Ah, but as the adage goes, ‘Truth will out.’ And out it came—the revelation of those embroidered numbers caused the company's stock to plummet like a stone tossed from a bridge, leaving a wake of investor losses and culminating in a disgraceful delisting from Nasdaq 13 months after her debut. Luckin Coffee Drops Nasdaq Appeal; Shares to Be Delisted
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of a cup of Luckin Coffee jumping from a bridge, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
Well… but that won’t happen to me…
Uh-huh. On April 2, 2020, after announcing that employees—including its chief operating officer—falsified 2.2 billion yuan (about $310 million) in sales throughout 2019, Luckin's shares nosedived -80%.
This is from one of you unluckin bastards: I've lost 240k on Luckin Coffee, all my life savings. Now I'm broke af.
I’m sure many of you might reckon yourselves immune to a similar debacle since you think you’re smart enough to use stops to escape any runaway losses. It's time to wake up and smell the Luckin coffee. Chinese news catalysts often strike like lightning at night, and the stops you set under the sun cannot shield you from storms that explode in the moonlight. Dumbass.
Chinese regulators can be mercurial
Even though the PCAOB is currently able to perform its oversight responsibilities, concerns remain around the possibility that Chinese regulators might backtrack, potentially clamping down once again on the PCAOB's ability to access audit firms and personnel across mainland China and Hong Kong.
If that happens, the PCAOB can quickly declare a negative determination. HOWEVER, this action would only start the countdown under the HFCAA, giving U.S.-listed Chinese companies a window of TWO years to secure services from an auditor in a compliant jurisdiction or face a trading ban. That’s it.
Of course, within that time, Chinese regulators could agree once again to allow access to the PCAOB, thus resetting the two-year countdown without significant consequences.
What lurks in the shadows
Although the risk of PCAOB non-compliance looms over these financial engagements, it is the ghost of potentially misconstrued—or, let's say, creatively presented—earnings reports coming to light that should scare you most. Or, on the flip side, present the biggest opportunity.
I believe it is possible that there are several ghosts out there—ghastly financial figures dressed up a tad too finely—lingering in the shadows, unchecked and unchallenged. If they’re found and unveiled under the harsh spotlight of scrutiny, the fallout would be immediate and severe, leaving investors scrambling.
And if that happens, it’s not about diamond-holding through the plunge since the company might opt (or be forced) to delist from the U.S. exchanges.
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of an attractive young Chinese ghost woman, implying both the allure of Chinese stocks, but also the risk of getting closer. However, I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
You need to understand a crucial concept. Many traders believe that if a company messes up, plunges, and gets delisted, it means the company is basically over—dead. But that’s not the case here. A delisting does not equal death.
I mean, Luckin Coffee is still out there, alive and kicking.
16,218 stores and counting, covering 240+ cities across China.
You would think that a company like that would not be able to cheat on its balance sheet. Yeah, just like you would think PwC China would notice 1,000 accountants cheated their way through the U.S. auditing curriculum.
🖼️ I would've added an AI-generated image of a Chinese accountant dabbing like a boss for getting his cheated accounting diploma, but I'm only allowed to include one attachment.
So… is it too far-fetched to believe more ghosts might come to light, now that the PCAOB can supervise the numbers?
I mentioned a flip side since you could specialize in tracking everything the PCAOB does. If you can get a whiff about increased auditing on a certain company, you might decide to play a short position in anticipation of a potential ghost coming to light. Be warned, though, that it’s not as if they tweet out which companies they’re auditing.
If I were to do it, I would research and join whatever digital saloon young Chinese ledger-keepers convene in. Perhaps I’d stumble upon a post by SumYungGuy or another pleading for advice on how to parley with the PCAOB Laowai making a fuss over his figures. The poor lad's in a pickle, you see, since he cheated the exam and doesn’t know squat.
Methodology
For the purposes of this table, a company is considered Chinese if:
  1. It has been identified as being from the PRC (the People's Republic of China) by the relevant stock exchange;
  2. It lists a PRC address as its principal executive office in filings with the SEC; or
  3. It has a majority of operations in the PRC, including a company structured offshore but whose value is ultimately tied through a relationship in the PRC.
⚠️ Some Chinese companies that use offshore corporate entities hide or do not identify their primary Chinese corporate domicile in their listing information. This complicates tracing, making it difficult to guarantee that this list captures all Chinese companies registered offshore.
I should also point out that this list does not include companies domiciled exclusively in Hong Kong or Macau.
⚠️ Remember, this list only considers Chinese companies listed on three of the largest U.S. stock exchanges: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and NYSE American.
Oh, and btw, this isn’t a list I came up with. This info was compiled by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. It’s their methodology and list.
Since the majority is a VIE, I’ve marked the ones that are not registered as a VIE with an asterisk (*). This is determined using the most recent annual report filed with the SEC. A company is judged to have a VIE if:
  1. It explicitly describes using a VIE to conduct all or part of its business operations in China, or
  2. It describes a subsidiary in which it has no direct equity interest but relies on contractual arrangements to exercise control and receive economic benefits from its operations in China.
⚠️ For companies that have been listed for less than a year, information contained in the company’s most recently updated investment prospectus, as filed with the SEC, is used instead.
Chinese companies listed on U.S. exchanges
Companies are arranged by the size of their current market capitalization. All companies utilize a VIE corporate structure, except those marked with an asterisk (*).

These are only 51 of the 261 Chinese companies currently listed on the major U.S. exchanges to comply with rule three. I kept the market cap minimum at $750M to allow for some wiggle room.
I mentioned earlier that the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission had 265 tickers, but that was on January 8, 2024. Since then, three companies have been acquired, and the other one has voluntarily delisted.
As you can confirm, the vast majority is structured as a VIE.
I was going to include charts to illustrate how several Chinese stocks—aside from the ones with the biggest market caps—tend to display sudden rallies, followed by after-hours reversals. It is important to recognize them, whether you want to capitalize on them, or avoid them entirely. But I can't add any more attachments, so...
Besides, it's unlikely that many of you have even read this far without images.
Have a good day.

2024.05.13 22:52 Ok_Tea_3431 Codependency is all I know.

Posting here because I need help/advice. I 28f have been with my bf 27m for 5 years now. My bf has difficulty holding down jobs. He was always looking for something better which was fine. However last year he quit his job and took on drinking and taking edibles daily. It’s embarrassing to admit but I stayed thru it all. He used insta cart and doordash to make his monthly bills but it’s not enough. I’ll pitch I here and there to help with his car payment. I’ll break down in bullet points bc i don’t know how else to tell my story.
Holidays: For Christmas I bought his family gifts and had him say it was from both of us. I knew they were getting us gifts and I didn’t want to get something without giving them something?? None of my family knows how bad it is. I’m really close to them and I just brush things off. I lied and told them he finally found a job but he hasn’t. I didn’t get a Christmas gift. But I gave him money. He took me to a steak house for my birthday. Paid for it. Then asked I pay back for my meal bc he miscalculated and needed the money. He did buy me flowers for Valentine’s Day. I bought us an expensive dinner for his bday. I will admit I like a certain type of lifestyle even if I can’t afford it so I may overspend on things.
Addiction: Recently he lost his wallet which meant no Id which meant he couldn’t go to the dispensary or buy alcohol. He ended up finding his wallet but I offered to hold onto his id. It was going well but one day I left an expired id with him so he could buy a beer. I left and came back 24hrs later and he was drunk at 5pm. He gets overly emotional and depressed when he’s drunk and I don’t know what to do other than comfort him. Before I would say I was going to storm off or leave him and that would send him into a deeper spiral so now I nod and try to appease him.
Credit card debt: I’ve been swiping my card for food and drinks for both of us. He uses my car for DoorDash which means I pay for the gas. Before he quit his job (he had been unemployed for 3 months before his most recent job) he really wanted and oled tv and asked I put it on my card and he would pay me back. He made payments for the three months that he was employed then stopped. He ended up selling the tv it was $1,100 he kept the money to pay his bills and buy weed. I finished paying off the card myself. I’m in such a hole borrowing money in hopes I can cover my ass until the next paycheck. I got a part time job im starting soon which should help me a lot. I make a decent wage.
Financially irresponsible: we went on a trip to the casino (he was still employed at this time) I booked the hotel on my credit card. He ended up winning $5,000!!! The first night there. Want to guess what he did next??? He took copious amounts of edibles and blew $3,000 of it on more gambling. He won another $1,000 and also blew that. With the remainder he bought a pc AND I had to beg him to pay me for his half of the hotel room. He did pay for dinners and lunch while we stayed there.
Promises: he says he’ll pay me back. I’ve helped him make his car payments. I help him with food. He says things are going to change. He paints this really pretty picture that I so badly want to be true. But it’s MAY 2024. He quit his job June 2023. He promised me Christmas he promised me my birthday gifts. All which fell flat. And now I just feel like a fool. He says once he starts working he’ll pay me back.
I’ve been helping him apply to place none call him back. He also can’t pass a drug test currently.
Relationship: aside from the money I think we’re okay? We trust each other we love each other. When we’re together we’re always laughing and having a good time. We get along. On weekends we take turns on who gets to pick the movie. He’ll watch twilight and mean girls with me.
The only thing is when he is in withdrawal or hungover he becomes easily agitated and needs space to calm down. The worst he’s done is raise his voice and so do I. Normally he just needs to walk it off or blow off the steam and things get better. He’ll hyper fixate on something I did and call me out on it. I’ll apologize but he won’t let off of it when he gets like that there is nothing I can say to change things. In my mind if I did something wrong I get it I’m sorry but there’s nothing I can do to change it? But if he lies or does something he brushes it off and gets upset with me for being upset at his lying?! He’s a terrible texter and never answers his phone. If I needed immediate help I’d be out of luck. But I always have to be there for him. Let’s say he’s having a bad day he needs me there and wants me there. I have to drop everything and if I don’t he feels bad and guilt trips me.

You are not recommended to try spells to bring a lover back if you are going through the following: You know that your relationship with your ex is toxic and the best painful option to take in this is to move on. It is not a good choice to be in a relationship that is un-natural, one that is built on witchcraft. The love spark as to be their at all times.
Even the most powerful love spell may not fulfill the things that are required for a real relationship to be in place. Love should be natural and if your partner looses interest in you, its better that you let them follow the heart. If one door closes, expect another open infront of you.
Therefore witchcraft or love spells should not be the ultimate solution to mending a broken heart in a relationship, one has to make love exist naturally by doing the right things to your partner, the things that will recapture the inner feelings of love and affection as you did in the start of the relationship.
Only if and when all has been tried and failed to work that one should order for my love spells that actually work, and indeed this will be the last nail in the coffin to fix your troubled relationship permanently.

2024.05.13 21:47 Jas02252002 Parents

Hello, gusto ko lang maglabas ng sama ng loob regarding my mother. Alam ko sasabihin nyo na dapat hindi nagtatanim ng sama ng loob pero iba kasi talaga naranasan ko sa mother ko.
Some info: hiwalay na parents ko and both may parehong sariling family na at dahil first apo ako, sa grandparents ako lumaki.
So here is the story.

2024.05.13 18:24 addictionpro0624 Dear Gambling Addiction

Dear Gambling Addiction,
I love to write so I thought I would write you a letter today. It has been almost 16 years since we last met, and to be honest, I don't miss you one bit.
There was a time when you were the only thing that mattered. I would do anything for you. Lie, cheat, steal, not eat, not sleep, or anything really. When I say you were the only thing, you were. I was obsessed with you. You plagued my thoughts and made me feel things that were uncomfortable.
Prior to being introduced to you, I was a moral person. I liked helping people and I was happy. I had friends, good relationships with my family, people trusted me, I worked, and I had money to pay my bills.
When you entered my life on my 21st birthday, I was partially intrigued but mostly I was frustrated. I lost $20 in about one minute on a craps table. I wanted my $20 back because I was not clear on why I lost the money. And the game of craps did not make sense to me. I thought if I was going to gamble again, I would play slots. So much easier and all I had to do was pull a handle.
In these very early stages, I did not think about you much. I believe though that you were there in my brain maybe trying to figure out how to get me more engaged. Maybe you were there attempting to entice me with needing to win back that $20.
A few years later, I found another friend to spend my time with and their name was cocaine. Well, living in Las Vegas when one could not sleep because of the drugs, the casinos were there with bright, flashing lights and the intrigue of winning money. So I met you again, and discovered that playing video poker machines was a great way to spend my time while high.
This was the start of our relationship that lasted quite a while.
In the beginning stages of my addiction with you, I was able to have some fun and enjoyed most of the times I had with you. Over time though, you consumed my soul. I did not care whether I lived or died. I just needed to be with you and I loved only you.
Our relationship lasted 14 years in total with breaks during some of that time, but even when I was not playing, I was still thinking about you. Wondering how I could get together with you again. Money was usually the main reason why I could not connect with you, but I also found it more challenging to find places to visit you.
Honestly, over time my relationship with you became rather tedious and boring. I started to feel like I might need to separate myself from you. I did not know why I was feeling this way, but on some level I just wanted something different for myself. I was tired of lying to people about you, and I was getting frustrated with being broke all the time. There was also this emptiness that even you could not fill. Most importantly, my real relationship with my husband was beginning to suffer. I did care about him and he really became more important than you. Sometimes I felt like I cheated on him with you. I do believe that my moral compass was questioning all that I was doing with you, and it just was beginning to not feel right.
On June 24, 2008 I decided to end my relationship with you. This was a very hard thing for me to do. After all, you were the only important thing in my life and I just wanted to be with you as much as possible. But on a sleepless night in June, I was watching my husband sleep and felt this overwhelming desire to be with him and not you. I felt like I could no longer lie to him about us. These feelings were quite overwhelming too almost to the point of if I didn't tell him about us, I might go crazy. There were just so many emotions running through me, and I decided to break it off with you. When he woke up, I told him everything about us.
June 24, 2008 was the best day and the hardest day of my life! I knew that once I told my husband everything that I would need to let you go. It was definitely a hard decision to make but I could not go on living or being with you.
The first few days of not having you in my life were a whirlwind of emotions. I do not recall another time when I cried so much. As I talked to others about us, I did start to feel better. And I went to meetings where others were talking about their own relationships with something similar to ours. The details were different but similar in that all of us wanted to end our relationships.
Over the weeks and months that followed, I continued to go to meetings and was learning to live without you. I had a lot to process and many feelings to address. Fortunately I had a lot of support from family and friends, but I did have to work on regaining their trust. When you cheat, people do not easily trust again. And I had to give up my finances to my husband. That was okay because I simply did not want to see you again or be tempted by you. Without access to cash or credit cards, it was just a little bit easier to let you go.
I also found that I needed to give up some control over certain things. First it was the finances. Then I discovered letting go was also needed. I started to let go of things that I could not control, and fixing the things I could. My focus was specifically on how to rebuild after a tumultuous relationship with you.
I worked every day to learn to live without you. I learned to feel my feelings and process them instead of covering them up by playing with you. I learned how to think more productively and to make goals for myself. I learned how to manage my finances and I was slowly regaining trust from my husband and others.
The work was hard but I kept going. I just did not want you in my life any longer, and no matter how I felt or what I thought, I was not going to re-engage with you. I was working a program of recovery and very proud of each day that I did not want to be with you. There were some days I thought about you, but it ended there. Just thoughts that were quickly replaced with all the positive benefits of not having you in my life.
All these years later, I still think about you but not in the ways you would want. I just have thoughts about how wonderful my life is without you. I have no urges to see you, and nothing that I can think of would bring me back to you. I have too much to lose now.
In a way, I do thank you for being in my life. I believe I am a better person for knowing you. You taught me what a person is capable of during a relationship with you, and with that, I can help others now. Our relationship also opened my mind to the human spirit and how resilient we really are. We can overcome great obstacles and learn to live without you.

2024.05.13 13:06 Reaper0fGrim Complications on quest to have a godly relationship

My gf (27) and I (33) of 5 months are striving for a godly relationship. We’ve been helping each other on our journeys to incorporate Christ more into our individual lives by reading the scripture together over FaceTime, encouraging each other, and I recently have been attending church with her parents (her current work schedule conflicts, so she can’t attend). We deciding to wait on sex, sharing a home and other things until marriage.
An issue has recently came up where her parents have (whom she lives with) have fallen on hard times financially, which has encouraged her to entertain the idea of start looking for better paying jobs. She’s a beautiful woman and has serving experience so the opportunities she’s been seriously considering are things like being a cocktail waitress at a casino nightclub and pool which will require her to serve drinks while wearing very seductive and revealing clothing or bikinis around drunk crowds.
There was a time where she’d considered working at a bar in the past because her job at the time couldn’t cover her bills, but i dissuaded her and decided to help with her bills so she wasn’t forced to put herself in that type of environment when she didn’t want to. But this current situation may be more than I can help with and I fear it will lead to a path that will negatively influence her, our relationship and our relationships with god, and I’m not entirely sure what I can do or what the next few months are going to look like.
TL:DR- Gf is considering a job at a bar requiring revealing/skimpy clothing to help her parents, while at the same time we’re focusing on building a godly relationship and our relationships with Christ

2024.05.13 01:13 GreatHornedRat_UWU Epithet Erased: Tales of Idiocy Character Creation Character Creation Noah LaScritché Epithet: Itchy

Setting: In the fictional, beautiful, rustic, and all-around depressing city of Rongeford, there are two kinds of people: epithets and mundies. This isn't too different from most cities, but the isolation and wilderness of the Northern Forestlands make the economic and racial divide between these two sides... a bit more tense. That isn't to stay you can't live in Rongeford and any other community in the Great North, mundie or not, but the city of Rongeford is a city with small-town sentiments: you gotta work to earn local trust, not expect it to be given. This comes pre-packaged in what is known as the all-too infamous Free-Northern talk: overly friendly and hospitable manners compared to the outside world, but with a hint of aggression that honestly you can't really tell whether they're being kind, or there are several veiled threats beneath those sweet words.
This is where your party, either mundies or epithet users, will come together, as a series of wild-fires have began to pop up across the municipal district, threatening the nearby communities and getting closer to the city of Rongeford. It would seem that whatever is causing these fires is, for once, not from stupid teenagers playing with fire out in the woods; a reward of $65,000 is offered to whatever group or individual can capture the rumored epithet usegroup terrorizing the municipalities of Ronge.
These adventures will take you through the many communities of Ronge, and face being completely trapped (even in the air), and forced to travel on foot to travel from place to place, face off against the wild-life, poachers, secret government agents, and the forces of nature itself. Oh, and there's also a huge casino heist that happens somewhere inbetween with guns and fire, but we're keeping it at least 90s PG here...so there will be some blood and we'll definitely go deep on the mental and emotional route, but this is going to be played by both kids and adults so...yeah.
Now, onto my character! Who am I, you may ask?
Character Creation
Name: Noah LaScritché Epithet: Itchy
Stamina: ☆☆ Proficiency: ☆☆☆ Creativity: ☆☆☆☆
□ Abilities: Can trigger a person's inner compulsions or desires and force them to act them out for a period of time. Can activate multiple compulsions at a time, but limited by the will-power and resistance of the target, and how many "itches" Noah can hold his attention to with his proficiency.
□ The "itch" can be effected on different levels of cognition and sensation: an emotional "itch," a physical "itch," or even a mental "itch."
□Emotional itches cause the affected person to experience emotions that have either been repressed or have left a huge impression on the person's memory, causing the person to be flooded with them again and be stunned or have them affect their actions during combat or in-game. This can have bonuses, but also debuffs depending on the Emotional moment left behind or unresolved.
□Physical "itches" are sensations that the person has lingering on them, they've felt recently and left an impression, or are so small in sensation that they go unnoticed. Noah can amplify these sensations or diminish them, but the effects are temporary; for whatever reason, to diminish the sensations of the person affected, Noah must let whatever physical sensations the person feels flow into him. This includes pain, nausea, constipation, and anything from excruciating in feeling to uncomfortable.
□Mental "itches" are arguably the most unpredictable and dangerous of Noah's epithet level of abilities. Using his scratch ability, Noah can influence the cognition, memories, perception, and self-perception of the person affected. To an extent, mental "itches" would be considered hypnosis; however, the effects make the Mental "itches" not only dangerous to person affected, but also to others around them. With emotional and physical "itches," the epithet doesnt force the person affected to let these repressed/intense/unnoticed sensations be relieved; it uses persuasion, or rather the Creativity from within Noah, to convince the person that they subconsciously should have this itch scratched. Mental "itches" are entirely different; they are "itches" from within the mind itself and it's perception of the world, and thus have far more defenses and resistance to the Scratch ability.
This is for good reason, as messing with the way a person perceives the world mentally is something that doesn't have a temporary effect like physical or emotional "itches. Like brain surgery, without careful precision, scratching at some compulsion or hidden desire within the mental space of a person could permanently damage them. For example, if Noah were to draw out a memory from a person's inner conscience that has been left unresolved, the person and Noah would view it. However, Noah must ensure that he is not detected by the person within his conscience and complete the scratch ability on whatever he needs to do; otherwise, the person's mind will activate defenses within, and may even view the influence of Noah on the memory itself as a sort of mental virus, and thus decide to erase both Noah and the memory. There are many more dangers of bringing out mental "itches," but here is a warning to summarize: there are certain things within the mind, repressed and hidden things, that aren't meant to be seen. It is the most useful level of "itches" only because it can dominate a mind, but it can just as easy break Noah if he is not careful how he approaches things.
□Side-effect for Noah is he feels an itch as a result, which grows in discomfort as he draws out the compulsion of the person. Can lead to him actively scratching himself in irritation, even harming himself unintentionally. Depending on which level of itch he scratches, Noah can experience certain debilitating conditions unless he succeeds a fortitude save. Examples include: temporary loss of sight,
Background: Hello, I'm Noah LaScritché, and I'm a theatre performer in a city that doesn't normally put much money, if at all, into the performing arts. Yeah, it sucks, but it's a lot better than where I last lived...anyway, I'm also a professional clown; in fact, I take it pretty seriously, and wear it wherever I go. You'd think it would be hard and outright crazy dressing up as a clown daily, but the key is mainly just the face; my outfit is mostly interchangeable, though I'm partial to wearing emerald-green shirt/jacket, brown/tanned trousers/overalls, a pair of leather-boots, and a tanned sun-hat.
That's my side-job as a clown (mostly for birthdays), but my main job is as an addiction councilor; yes, I wear the costume, even though I've gotten complaints, I guess I just feel more comfortable as a clown councilor, but I do make sure not to wear it if people are really freaked out by it. Turns out my epithet and a Bachelour's Degree in Mental Health works hand-in-hand to being a really good addiction councilor; of course, my code as a mental-health professional only allows me to do this kind of stuff if they sign off on it with consent, or I determine that the person under my supervision is having a state of emergency and I need to give my full attention and resources to them. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about my epithet. By helping people open up their inner compulsions, some desires that even they have no idea that are hidden within them, it can actually help them have an apifany and recover, or it could end horribly. It's why I only do in extreme circumstances when no other option is available and the environment is safe and secure.
I'm getting off topic. Let's see...what else is there about me? I really like Weeros/Cockatiels, really any member of the parrot/cockatoo family; their mimicry of sounds is amazing. If I didn't go into theatre, I'd have probably become a professional hat-maker if the automated industry didn't destroy that profession locally; regular one-bill caps are boring, but a custom-made 19th century stove-pipe hat in any colour you choose paired with a fashionable jacket? Now that is eye-catching!

2024.05.12 02:42 Mean_Housing_722 Happy mother’s day sa nanay kong sugarol

My mom used to gamble a lot. Growing up, I witnessed how late she comes home from the casino. She even sold some of our stuff just to have something to gamble with. She always got mad at us whenever we called her out. My dad had no idea since he was an ofw and we, as kids, never got the courage to tell the truth. This went on for years.
Now, she no longer plays but still has a few debts left that we are still paying for and my dad now knows about it. What angers me is we, my dad and my siblings, are the ones paying for the loans that we didnt even benefit from or get to use. We’re talking millions here.
She is a very caring person and a lot of our relatives like her but they don’t know what we had to endure as children and even as adults. She tries to make amends and be remorseful about it but for me it isn’t enough. Because of what she did, I cannot look at her with the same respect and love anymore like I used to.
Please dont tell me to forgive her because she is still my mom because I can’t atm. Memories of lending sharks harassing our family at home, even going to my school to contact me, getting our electricity cut because she used up the money for the bills, unable to take the exam because she didnt pay our tuition fees and many more, are still vivid to me.
I’m civil with her but truthfully I just want her out of my life. I might be able to forgive her tho once we pay off everything. We’ll see.
Happy mother’s day to the good and responsible ones!

2024.05.11 03:35 babyxxpigeon17 A Niagara vacation

It was so terribly cold. Snow was falling, and it was almost dark, when out of the blue, my wife called me at work. "We're going to Niagara Falls for the weekend. I got us an awesome deal!"
We had both been working at our first "full-fledged" jobs for a year and had reached that moment after graduation when you suddenly realize you can't make that impact on the world your student enthusiasm once promised. At first, I just sighed. It was the dead of January, and I had already expended all my energy on a week of inconsequential stress. I just wanted to collapse on the couch for two days. Sarah felt a similar weary exhaustion. I could tell. Her tone was more hopeful than excited, but she had dreaded the routine we were sinking into and was trying her best to pull us free.
I looked to the ceiling and adjusted my telephone headset. At that time I was working at Stats Canada on the tele-query desk. I took a deep breath and, as convincingly as possible, said, "Sounds good." I don't think she bought it, but we went nonetheless.
This was Niagara Falls before the casinos when there was a very distinct off-season. When we got to the hotel, we were given the details of our "lovers' special". One dinner to be used either Friday or Saturday, two breakfasts, a roll of tokens for the arcade, 10% off some "4D" movie ride experience, and a 2-for-1 coupon to Max Tussaud's. I guessed it was Madame's nephew? We also got a bottle of sparkling wine in our room and chocolate treats on our pillows. I was impressed. It sounded good.
When we got into our room and saw the "bottle" of wine - basically an aeroplane-sized glass and half - and the chocolates - "fun wrapped" Oh Henry's left over from Halloween - we both started to laugh. The tone for two wonderful days had been set. We decided to cash in on our dinner coupon right away.
The restaurant off the lobby had hopes of being better. There were huge panoramic windows that promised a view of the gorge. Unfortunately, they had some winter moisture problems that day, and it felt like we were defrosting amid the dripping streaks and foggy patches. The decor was your standard booths and tables though the "romantic" lighting was unique. Dollar store battery-powered tea lights were lodged inside thick tumbler glasses and shed a muted pleasantness in a "what a great idea for a craft" sort of way. I had a feeling they were created by our waitress since she was the one who always seemed to be fussing with them. Only one other couple was in the dining room, so she attended to us immediately.
"Can I get you something to start?"
"Sure." "Thank you, that would be nice." We both responded simultaneously.
"And what would the lady like this evening?"
Sarah smiled at the flattery. "I think I'll have a glass of white wine." She glanced over at me to see my reaction. This was a subtle cue of the mood to follow. Diet Coke was usually the beverage of choice. She didn't normally drink alcohol. One glass numbed her nose and made her giggle far too easily. When she did drink, however, it meant she was comfortable with my company and open to anything to follow. I raised my eyebrows in a debonair way.
"And for the gentleman?"
"Do you have Foster's on tap?"
"Yes we do."
"I'll have a pint please."
Sarah smiled at the happy memories I invoked. At university, Foster's was my signature beer. It was at a time when Crocodile Dundee was a known name, and Australia was inexplicably cool. 15 cent buffalo wings and a pitcher of Foster's was the Tuesday night special at the London Arms pub. There the Classics Club would meet and, as a group, circle the wagons and drink ourselves into extroverts.
As soon as the waitress left, Sarah smiled at me. She reached out and held my hand across the table. With my gaze on hers, she slipped her foot from her shoe and slowly began sliding it up my pant leg.
"I got a pedicure this morning." She announced seductively.
I nodded and pretended I didn't notice her invitation. "What colour?" I asked.
"I'm not telling." She teased. "You'll just have to find out later." Her devious little smile was gorgeous.
"Mmmm. I can't wait."
When the waitress returned with our drinks, we immediately retreated to our personal spaces as if we had been discovered by the chaperone. Sarah opened the menu and began to salivate at the variety.
"Can we add an appetizer to the package dinner?" Her question seemed innocent enough.
"You're on the package?" Our friendly waitress disappeared, and we were no longer a lady or a gentleman. She ripped the menu out of Sarah's hand and took mine before I had even opened it. She then scurried to her podium and brought back a tattered, grease-stained, photocopied page that we had to share. We both burst out laughing.
The waitress was flustered that we were not as bothered as she was. "The drinks are NOT included!"
"What choices do we have?" I asked, expecting the usual chicken or fish. I had been on many packages before with my parents.
"Coffee or tea." The waitress snapped.
Sarah and I looked at each other in amused disbelief.
"I'll have coffee please." I didn't even flinch at the ridiculously limited package. I was eager to get my order in early.
"And I'll have the tea!" Sarah followed my lead. "Can I have some milk with that?"
"Yes." The waitress snarled.
"Fantastic!" I enthused.
"Yes, great! I'm glad we got the package, Honey." Sarah joked.
The waitress stormed off and returned sometime later with our lettuce-only salads drowned in Kraft's Italian dressing and our chewy chicken dinners, which she had thoughtfully allowed to cool. She tossed the plates on the table and left us to peacefully devour our deal. We didn't see her again until we requested the bill. For some reason, we found it amusing to leave a generous tip, which of course, defeated the purpose of the package, but we didn't care. It was fun.
The rest of the holiday was marred with similar off-season products and services. The wax museum was only half open, so we couldn't see the pop stars of the seventies. I didn't think it was a problem, but Sarah pouted playfully. She really wanted to see young Bowie. Meanwhile, the arcade was particularly stingy about spitting out coupons. So much so that Mike, the scraggly-haired repair guy, ended up escorting us from game to game and repairing the devices on demand. In no time, he was acting like an old drinking buddy. He joked and laughed, then, out of the blue, revealed that working at the Niagara Falls Fun Centre wasn't his career choice, that his dream was to be part of a travelling carnival. He desperately wanted to see more of the world, he explained and socialize with a greater variety of "wildlife." Mike winked at Sarah to punctuate his meaning, then began advising her on which games to play.
Sarah was partial to Skee ball and clearly had career potential in the sport, but Mike quickly pointed out that the token-to-coupon payout was not the best. In a furtive whisper, he revealed that The Storm Stopper was your best bet, provided the arcade had left it on its original factory settings. He assured us the ones here were "cool." The game had lights that ran around the outside in opposite directions and you had to hit the button at just the right spot to win. It looked impossible, but Mike was right; if you calculated tokens in versus coupons won, it was the best deal. It only took a little practice to win a minor jackpot every 5 or 6 times.
We would cheer each win as if Toronto had won the Stanley Cup. I would give a quick fist pump and a full lung "Yes!" while Sarah would jump up and down screaming, "WhoooHooo!" Of course, in the end, when we cashed in, "Mike's secret" only bumped us up from a key-chain flashlight to a "deluxe" nail beauty set. Mind you, it did come complete with clippers, scissors, a file AND a cuticle scraper. Not only that, it was all neatly packaged in a paisley-patterned pink and green plastic vinyl case. Mike was so pleased to give us our prize and to be honest, we were thrilled to win it if only to see his broad chicletted smile. It was more of a trophy than a grooming set.
That night, I made reservations for us at a fancy Chinese food restaurant - the Bamboo Garden. When we arrived, we had half-expected renovations of some sort. Instead, the place was immaculate. Gentle pools teeming with goldfish highlighted the epic black and red Ming dynasty decor. Real candles flickered on crisp white tablecloths. Again, the restaurant was virtually ours. The reservations on my part were entirely unnecessary. In fact, as soon as we entered, they knew us by name and guided us directly to our table. A live lounge piano caressed the air, its notes danced vaguely around familiar harmonies until finally, as if prompted by our presence, a song emerged immediately accompanied by the velvet voice of oriental karaoke. It was our song remastered

2024.05.11 01:01 Erwinblackthorn Greedy Hobbyists Are Parasites

We are no longer in an age of authenticity. The demand for “realness” has been replaced by a demand for digital daydreaming. From the instagram model using filters, to the youtube money guru renting out properties and fancy cars, there is more of a fake presence than a real existence online. People will say “this is the real me” while covered in hair dye and pointless piercings, declaring that they can’t be themselves without the aid of modernity. Or, better yet, the aid of postmodernity.
Profiles are used, mostly online, as a social means of determining what someone or something is. Profile pictures, profile descriptions, these are done as small snapshots of recognition for people to easily connect the dots for their main focus. It’s not that an author is only an author, but rather that is the profile they want to hold as a social position on social media. Then comes the question: Who determines they are such a person in the first place? What validates a profile outside of pointless keywords and gullibility?
As masters of mimesis, the artist is, ironically, easily mimicked through actions and production. The lack of an institution that gives the title of artist makes it even harder to determine who is and isn’t an actual artist. The definition of art being changed by whoever you’re talking to is also a clear and present way of allowing deception to go unnoticed. Fake artists are everywhere, we don’t have a social detection system to snuff them out, and so every artist is a valid artist. If you dare to question the validity of an artist by asking for proof or authentic actions, you will be quickly met with an onslaught of hobbyists and tourists determining that you’re being unfair.
The hobbyist, a word derived from the hobby horse, a word meaning “one who acts for the sole purpose of one’s own pleasure”, is something that becomes more present as free time and distractions increase. Technology performs half of our day for us, we spend more time in retirement, and the internet is one giant toy that’s plugged into other people’s screens. An increase in social boredom, as well as anti-social behavior, creates a dramatic amount of enclosed activity done in one's room, but out in the open for all to see. As the windows are shut and the curtains are drawn closed, the computer window is opened and the content is uploaded. It has come to the point where a child, one who doesn’t even comprehend the concept of online activity, will be filmed daily by their parents in order for the parents to make money off of their interaction with different toys.
And yes… I’m referring to the cursed content that is Ryan’s World.
To understand the phenomena of “capitalizing on hobbies”, it is important to understand the economic situation we are given. People don’t like to work, they are told they don’t have to work, and they would rather sit in their house all day doing nothing. I know, I’m one of those people. My back hurts, video games are more fun, I don’t want to follow a schedule, and dealing with customers is a headache. When provided an alternative, you’re damn right we are going to seek the easier route, even if it offers a vague hint of failure or loss.
This is why people buy lottery tickets and gamble at casinos: they are seeking the easy way out and find that slim chance of success is worth the cost. $5 today could become $500,000 tomorrow; but being short sighted and impulsive turns that $5 a day into a daily $5 expense, or worse. Soon, the inclination becomes a habit, to then have the habit become addiction. Eventually, people who fall for the vague promise of wealth will fall into their own pit of undefeatable debt. All because they were distracted by the positives and couldn’t notice the massive amount of negatives that overwhelmed them.
It’s fine to enjoy a hobby, and it’s fine to put money into something that entertains you. Nobody is saying we have to be “strictly work and no play” for the rest of our lives. We don’t need any more Jacks going crazy in the Overlook Hotel. The point of a hobby is to do it by yourself, for yourself, and leave the rest of us out of it. If we are not involved, then do not involve us.
Sadly, this doesn’t happen due to two factors: greed and narcissism.
A youtube channel like Ryan’s World gets made from the sheer amount of narcissism a family requires in order to put their child on film and share it around to others. It is hoping that random strangers care about what your kid is doing, with the uploading family also hoping that there is money to be had from this endeavor. They were able to get millions of subs, I would never say it’s a failure. It’s one of the biggest youtube channels in the world, while offering the simple product of a kid playing with toys and doing trendy challenges. But the amount of greed and narcissism required to even begin this type of action, to then continue it, is practically inhuman.
Even though humans hold the will to power, it is abnormal to seek senseless celebrity as a majority of people. Online culture has created this artificial need for fame and clicks, utilizing the upvote and notification as a manipulation of our dopamine kicks. We are tricked into thinking online activity both means something and benefits us, in the same way we are tricked into thinking we feel good after eating junk food. Like junk food, we are getting too much waste and not enough nutrition, slowly destroying our bodies over time. There is a reason why youtubers always talk about taking “mental health days” and celebrities are always caught with drug use or simply go insane.
Humans feel safe when we are not noticed. Eyes upon us causes anxiety, in the same way a lion lurking in the bushes makes its prey scan around. One of the most common fears is public speaking, because being the focus of a crowd means you’re the target of numerous possible predators. Humans, under years of conditioning, must regain a child-like state of bliss to overcome this fear of being the center of attention, and this is usually done with processed narcissism. In the same way a rat is conditioned to no longer react to being shocked, by expecting the shock, there is a repetitive process of no longer feeling anxious when put into emotionally intense situations.
The hobbyist will wander online spaces, surrounded by fellow hobbyists, granting the same positive reinforcement to others that they would want others to grant them. Placing “hobbyist” as their profile would cause people to wonder “why is this person making it all about themselves”, yet casually declaring they are a hobbyist is met with people going “so am I, and proud of it”. The acceptance of authenticity means less than the profile presented as an identity, but only to the people who put identity before authenticity. If you act in one way, but claim you are another, postmodernism demands that we believe the words and ignore the actions. All this does is further narcissistic behavior as people learn to mimic phrases and religiously place themselves higher in the algorithm.
The interesting thing about narcissism is that it’s not about being famous because you hold a skill or purpose. It’s a demand to be famous for the sake of having eyes upon you. It is entitlement, which requires further deception to retain a presence among other entitled individuals who are socially conditioned to share the same goal. Babies are inherited with this mentality due to the helpless condition of being a baby, but an adult doing the same thing will appear as the parasite they are. Include this with the undying charity of anonymous altruism and we have a recipe of people pretending to be something they aren’t, all for financial gain.
The only type of artist the hobbyist can practice in is being a con artist.
This is all over the place in social media, with the main legal loophole being that they don’t necessarily take your money directly. The fine line between con artist and “fake it until you make it” is mostly obscured by the lack of hard evidence that the con artist took advantage of people in a way that stands out from the ocean of culprits. Grifters, shills, tourists, hobbyists, these are all things that get mixed and merged together at different levels and different areas of effect. Sadly, the hobbyist has the most protection because the hobbyist is seen as a “benign blemish” that could easily be subjectively warped into a beauty mark. In reality, the interloping of hobbyists is more like the brood parasitism of birds like the common cuckoo, having the real eggs switch out with the parasitic one and receiving a dead offspring in the process.
Sure, we can say it’s a bird and it needs to be fed, but it’s not the real bird that the feeding mother expected to take care of. Hobbyists pretending that they are selling a product, desperate enough to go through the hoops of buying covers and paying for editors, becomes an endless spiral of fake chicks being taken care of by unsuspecting caretakers. It’s not our fault that they decided to spend time on their hobby, yet they demand that we pay for their efforts and scold us when we don’t accept the unwanted product. The hobbyist quickly becomes a homeless person, panhandling for any change, hoping people see them as pathetic. Even if we do see them as pathetic and downtrodden, they then demand we foot the bill for their inability to make something to actually sell.
If someone is making something for free and all they ask for is my time, I have little to complain about. As stupid as I find Ryan’s World, at least they are not telling me I need to pay for their “service”, along with any other youtuber. But then we have books and video games made by hobbyists that don’t sell, to then have the hobbyist claim the entire world is evil and oppressing them. The appeal of global money, along with the benefit of anonymity, inspires too many desperate cuckoos to start throwing eggs around. Even actual artists are forced to claim “they were just doing their own thing” as a way to present a random unpreparedness, in fear that the hobbyists will cancel them.
The cuckoo hobbyists are not hard to detect, but they are hard to call out due to the false obedience to social democracy. Feeling outnumbered, fearing the wrath of downvotes or response videos; it’s hard to get people to speak out. It’s even harder to find an authentic artist in the bunch, as if nearly all the eggs are replaced by the parasitic ones. But, once you know what spots to find and colors to seek, you can easily know when you’re being conned. At that point, all you have to do is fight the urge to sympathize with crocodile tears and stay logical.
Do not let yourself get drained by the parasites, financially or emotionally.

2024.05.10 15:43 boutell New US and Canadian CHAdeMO chargers in April 2024

Welcome to the March new chargers report, fellow Chadoomers!
Almost all of you are my fellow Leaf owners, hoping for just one new chargepoint on your favorite route, before the great dwarven CHAdeMO forges beneath the earth go cold for all time. Here's an update.
Here are all of the new US and Canadian CHAdeMO (Leaf fast-charging) stations that rolled out in April, according to the Alternative Fuels Data Center. You can fetch the data yourself here. Feel free to report inaccuracies to the AFDC.
For comparison's sake: in the US, there were 200 "new" (or updated) CHAdeMO stations added in March, with at least 200 chargepoints. To put it in perspective, there were 102 new or updated US stations in April of 2023. This month's report is surprisingly strong, given how late we are in CHAdeMO's lifecycle. It is unclear if this is due to a large number of refreshed stations, or a large rollout of new stations that happen to include at least one CHAdeMO chargepoint, but it may be the latter thanks to Inflation Reduction Act funding. In any case, it is good news for those of us with legacy vehicles.
Keep in mind that even EVGo has started to roll out stations where only some of the bays support CHAdeMO. This makes sense given that only Nissan still sells a CHAdeMO pure-battery-electric car in the US, and the newer Nissan Ariya model is CCS. The Mitsubishi Plug-In Hybrid Outlander PHEV also supports CHAdeMO.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or reading these monthly reports is just frustrating in your state, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications only when new stations actually open. You can sign up at evpov.com. I built it to help EV owners like myself (especially my fellow Leaf owners). You can pick other plug types as well.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first. Some stations may actually have more CHAdeMO chargepoints than reported here, but most won't, because even EVGo has started to reduce the number of CHAdeMO chargepoints per station. So in the case of CHAdeMO I make a pessimistic assumption to avoid creating unrealistic expectations.
Even so, for actual trip planning I recommend using PlugShare. This report is mainly useful to understand trends.
