APB: Second Half Progress?
Last week I was talking about how Troy Lesesne was trying to find a way to keep the team from wilting in the second halves of games. I worried it might not be possible with the somewhat messed-up roster, but it feels like some progress has been made.
In this game, instead of waiting patiently for DC United to wilt, Pineda subbed off a winger (Edwin Mosquera) at halftime and subbed on Dax McCarty to reinforce a midfield battle that Klich and Hopkins had been winning in the first half. I didn’t check to see if this happened at the half, but certainly after the third goal, Lesesne pulled the team back into a low block and defended in a 5-4-1 instead of a 5-3-2, leaving Benteke as a lone high outlet. This slowed down DC’s offense but successfully denied Atlanta much in the way of chances. Lesesne put Pirani on for Stroud in the 73rd minute, both for fresh legs and perhaps because Pirani is—at least theoretically—better than Stroud at holding on to the ball while outnumbered and finding a pass under pressure. This didn’t pay off with a goal, but he did help generate a few shots, which lately have been few and far between after halftime.
I wanted to see if I could validate my fuzzy sense of improvement with some objective stats. We’re twelve games into the season, so maybe we can see some trends. Note that I normally use FBref, but for this I’m using Fotmob stats because they let me filter by half.
The first question is do the stats even confirm the eye test that this is a real issue?
Answer: yes. Kind of.
DC’s overall goal difference:
  • Overall: 0
  • Second halves: -3
Expected goal difference (DC’s xG minus opposing team xG):
  • Overall: +2.06
  • Second halves: -0.43
Big chance difference (DC’s “big chance” stat minus the opposition’s “big chance” stat):
  • Overall: +4
  • Second halves: -1
So this seems like a significant effect. My first thought was it doesn’t seem as big as I would have thought, but it’s worth noting that DC’s overall xG difference is 4th best in the league. Their second half xG difference, if it were the team’s overall, would be near the bottom of the eastern conference.
What about the trend? I tried looking at trends by looking at stats like xG and big chances based on the percentage DC had in the second half, but those charts didn’t tell the story I wanted them to tell seemed either too noisy or too impacted by the game state. I think the best view is just second half xG difference, so here that is game-by-game:

Overall, you’ve got to like that trend over the past four games! Although it looks more dramatic because of how terrible that NYCFC game was. Also, it’s worth noting that the Orlando City game involved a brutal collapse on the scoresheet but doesn’t look so bad in xG terms.

My big takeaway is that we should try not to get crushed like in the Inter Miami and NYCFC games. Instead, we should do the crushing, like we did against New England and Portland. How’s that for hard-hitting analysis?
Finally, let’s look at DC’s xG difference in each half:

From this, you can see there’s been several games with clear meltdowns: St. Louis City, CF Montreal, and Seattle. And a few where DC was a bit worse: New England, Cincinnati, NYCFC, and Philadelphia. Portland was the one really big turnaround, but Columbus and Atlanta were both improvements.
As always with soccer stats, this is mostly a matter of entertainment and not scientific truth, but I’ll keep an eye on things as we go forward.

overall: price asked is way to much even tho having to deal with disputes and a few more things can be very time consuming 1 individual rather than a team... without escrow... that could lead to many many scams which would be just too much for just 1 dude, just sayin.. like, scams happen all the time especially at the start before all the people got time to grind that reputation thing
but aside those few points that would need to be thought a bit more.. well i guess it's pretty much ded cause seems like he "wont do for $20-30 per hour" it's still something that could be very beneficial to the community P2P trades been around since even bitcoin with like d2jsp that is still around, with their own currency "forum golds" (shorten to "fg") and it's still going stronk af to this day, like, people still trade in games items for that forum currency
sidenot fun fact, ceo of kraken jesse powell started his buisness with selling in game items (that are still to this day sold on the d2jsp forums by people still playing the video game)
and as it was talked about, Haveno users need to already have monero (for the deposit fee) to buy monero, that's a catch 22 to actually onboard new people... so the P2P trading room could definitely be somewhere to send people that have like zelle, revolut, SEPA or whatever people be using but dont have even have a monero for themselves just yet
so overall, great idea definitely something that could be heavily beneficial to the ecosystem.. but imo should do it more like neroshop is doing: https://github.com/layters/testshop

2024.05.14 19:15 toobsock2 Rolling back from 14.5 to 14.4.1 is a serious pain...

I upgraded to MacOS 14.5 yesterday as soon as it was available. I've been lucky over the years and never had any issues with point releases that affected me. Going back to System 7. Anyway, when I upgraded, my Elgato 4K X stopped feeding video. Not a big deal, it's not something I do as a living. But it was very annoying to say the least. I even thought at one point that maybe the device (a week old) was to blame. So last night, I hooked the capture device up to my MiniPC and it worked fine in Windows 11 on there.
Then I thought, maybe while I'm sleeping, something will be found or something along those lines. I had already contacted Elgato support earlier in the day and told them what was happening and what a lame piece of hardware it was, etc, etc. (I was frustrated)
Anyway, this morning, nothing from anyone about it. So I downloaded 14.4.1 and installed it onto my external SSD, booted up, installed the software I needed for my capture device and everything worked wonderfully (as it should). So, I then created a new TM backup on my fast (40Gbps) external SSD, deleted the internal SSD, installed 14.4.1 and migrated everything back. It wanted me to go to 14.5 when I was in the setup.
It used to be so easy to roll back... now with all of the security locks and everything, they make it quite painful and I'm glad I'm not an Apple Tech any longer as my main job. If I hadn't done my regular TM backup on Monday afternoon (was already on 14.5 by the afternoon), I could have rolled back from my normal TM, but instead I did it from the external SSD at a much faster rate.
I don't rely on the capture device for anything.. right now, I'm just playing around with it and having fun.. but when something isn't working, it annoys me. I'm sure it would have been fixed in a few days or a week, but that's just too long for me.
So to sum it up, rolling back OS's is a pain the ass and if you rely on any hardware that's not Apple (for the most part) think twice of what you would do without that piece functioning. Or even software for that matter. There is no prize to be one upgrading to the latest *OS.
What's also funny is I had just got an Anker Powered USB hub for my Studio cause I needed a couple more ports.. and I thought that maybe it had done something to the internal USB hub on the machine. Anyway, glad to know that isn't the problem either.
Need more coffee.

Hi all! I'm starting a new treatment (an ointment) for vulvodynia, a sort of nerve pain that causes me pain during sex. It's been a years long struggle but I've found a new wayyy better doctor and she's given me new medicine to apply twice daily. Long time lurker here and first time posting. I’ll try and be as brief as possible but could really use the advice. I’m currently a Senior Director looking to make a lateral move for a variety of reasons. I’ve been interviewing with a new company and have been told a written offer is coming for a while now. Still waiting but I have no reason to believe they would back out. I’m told they are working through the equity component and title/org structure which I guess takes some time. Yet obviously there’s always the possibility of getting screwed.
I haven’t told a soul at my current job. But my boss comes into my office yesterday and blind sided me by saying he knows that I have been looking. We are losing our CFO to another company and our CEO is desperate to keep me. Wants to know what he can do to keep me happy. Was able to get a quick $15k raise and fully remote work (we are hybrid). But I also demanded he tell me where he heard this from because I was really dumbfounded. And also I need to be able to trust people no matter what happens. He said this is a small world and a friend of a friend works at the PE shop I’ve been interacting with that owns the new company.
I have no reason not to believe him but this is absolutely wild to me. While I got something out of it right away, I’m absolutely livid. It clearly changes the tone and tenor of the relationship I had with the CEO which wasn’t good to begin with. I have no idea what kind of back channels are taking place. I had to half lie and say I was happy and have no intentions of leaving tomorrow. Which is true only because I don’t have a written offer in hand. Does he relay to his buddy that info and that somehow impacts my offer?
I’m struggling with what to do with this information if anything right now. Do I tell the recruiter but downplay how pissed I am and reiterate my interest? But does this blow up things at the PE firm? It obviously wasn’t the Partner I was talking with. Probably someone else at the firm, but from my perspective that would be a breach of fiduciary duty and a fireable offense. You have a rat that leaked confidential information that has a direct impact on one of your investments. Should I sit on it until I do or don’t get the written offer? Anyway, that wound up being longer than I expected but I appreciate anyone’s perspective.
