2024.05.14 05:18 GAME043010 Ok so I just finished listening to blink-182's entire discography. Here's what I have to say about everything

Buddha: Pretty good. Not outstanding but it's a demo so it kinda gets an excuse of kinda sounding like doo doo. 6.9/10 (🤨)
Cheshire Cat: Great album. The songs that were originally on Buddha are improved on this album imo. Plus, the one and only M+Ms. 8.5/10
Dancing With Myself: Actually kinda like this song 7.5/10
Dude Ranch: So iconic. The riffs on this shit are amazing and catchy and these choruses are great. Dammit still remains as one of the best blink songs ever, along with Josie, and a few of my faves like Pathetic, Voyeur, and of course Dog Lapping. 9/10
I Won't Be Home For Christmas: One of my favorite Christmas songs by an artist/band from the 90s and 2000s. 8/10
Enema Of The State: while listening to this album, I remembered why All The Small Things is such a fucking amazing song. I skip it so many times, but now I realize just how catchy and open that fucking chorus is. Literally every song on this album is a 10. No exceptions. 10/10 MASTERPIECE
The Mark Tom & Travis Show: One of my favorite live albums of all time. They play everything so well and the jokes are really funny! Man Overboard is an amazing pick for the lead single for this album. Also those short songs are great especially because they kinda transition into the next song. Words Of Wisdom is truly the place to go for good advice from Mark & Tom. 9/10
TOYPAJ: Another classic. Pretty obvious why. 10/10 MASTERPIECE
Self-titled: Bro blink was on something when they were cooking up these three albums. I love how different these songs are from one another. First 2 tracks are straight pop-punk. Then I Miss You is an acoustic rock ballad or whatever you wanna call it. Violence and Stockholm Syndrome are kinda Post-hardcore. Down is back to pop-punk. Go, Asthenia, and Always is the best transition trilogy on a blink album imo. Here's Your Letter and I'm Lost Without You is kinda a perfect outro. 10/10 ONCE AGAIN, MASTERPIECE
Neighborhoods: Pretty good. Not my fav, but I like the kinda Box Car Racer sound some of these songs have. Ghost On The Dance Floor is one of the best blink songs to dance to, that riff is so moving. 7.6/10
Dogs Eating Dogs: Great EP. My favorite song off this ep is actually Disaster. Quite underrated. That chorus is amazing. All these songs are great. 8.5/10
California: Good album. Not great but still good. The choruses feel really open, but the guitar work is kinda lame and uninteresting. 7.5/10
California Deluxe: Why was this not the original album?!?! Dude, there are actual riffs, there are cool production choices, interesting drum beats, for example the dance beat in Good Old Days. Like, these bonus tracks are amazing. 10/10 ANOTHER MASTERPIECE
NINE: I really thought I was gonna hate this and get bored. The singles on this album are kinda bad choices to represent the album because the rest of the album is phenomenal besides the singles (except for I Really Wish I Hated You). Heaven is literally heaven. The First Time is an amazing intro song. Remember To Forget Me is an outstanding outro. Hungover You feels kinda underrated. Great album. 8.5/10
The blink collabs (2018-2020): i only liked one blink collab song from this era: Scumbag. The others are ass. The one with Lil Wayne is literally a 0. I'm sorry but it's true. The first verse in the one with The Chainsmokers is literally I Miss You and they're not even subtle about it.
Not Another Christmas Song: 🤷/10
Quarantine: COVID-19/10
ONE MORE TIME...: What a fucking comeback. Omg. I don't give a shit about the small production issues, this album is near perfect. Cut Me Off and See You are amazing bonus tracks that should've been on the original album. I can sense their emotion in this album and I love how it's mixed with some of that classic blink goofiness like in Edging, Dance With Me, Anthem Part 3, and most of all, TURPENTINE. 9.5/10
Ok I'm done now :)

2024.05.14 04:38 TheTaintedSpud Rereading the Bone-Claws Era of Wolverine....

And NGL... its peak Wolverine.
I know "hurr hurr no nose!" I'm talking before that. Wolverine 75-90. When Wolverine had the bone claws and his healing factor was as good as gone. The first mini-arc with Deathstrike really helps set a somber tone for the run. And the cover to Wolverine 77 not being a more iconic image is a freaking crime. 78 is a deliciously visceral tale of Wolverine outsmarting Bloodscream and Scylla. 79-81 ups the stakes by bringing back Cyber, a foe Wolverine had trouble with at his peak. 82 is a solid tale about Wolverine doing right by his oft neglected daughter, and the 3-parter with the Hunter in Darkness, while an obvious Alien homage, reinforces the tone of this being Wolverine's, to his knowledge, last go around to try and make things right and settle his debts before he dies. 85 is... when they can't all be bangers. But that's less on the title and more being roped into the Phalanx Covenant. 86 provides a fun divergence with the Albert/Elsie Dee/Bloodscream subplot, and 87 provides a nice parallel with Maverick having the Legacy Virus.
88 has the iconic Deadpool cover and the two's first meeting leaded with fun banter, and 89 an interesting teamup with Ghost Rider against Ogun. 90 brings Logan back home and closes out this run, imo, as it gets derailed with AoA, then the... noseless era.
While the end of the run from 75-90 started to decline in quality, this is probably my favorite era of Logan. The somberness, the melancholy, and the feeling of finality defined Wolverine for years for me, and its a tone I wish would come back. I don't want Wolverine fighting aliens on a technicolor sky. I want him in a dive bar brawl , tired and weary of a life hard lived.

2024.05.14 04:38 sweetiebabylove THIS. Acts like this are exactly why I am no longer a fan

https://www.reddit.com/TaylorSwift/s/98uUK4F5XD
Aide from the fact that she/her team copyright strike any and every poor indie artist and small business just making fan merch with THEIR OWN IDEAS AND UNIQUE DRAWINGS/ART that she’s mad more people want because her own store’s merch is cheap and shit but they would rather punish people than upgrade their products. (Which wasn’t looked down on before her, btw, which Olivia Rodrigo even shaded her for as 20 year old who was somehow mature enough to verbalize that it was a way your fanbase shows love and appreciation and that she personally also wouldn’t copyright strike an artist for being inspired by Olivia in music the way she was by Taylor—which is a whole other deal where we all know Olivia, A TEENAGER AT THE TIME, was taken advantage of by a fucking thirty year old woman and her team—)
Aside from the fact that she thinks that everything she says needs to be trademarked. Aside from the fact that she thinks her name is an icon—looking at you, the trademark claim for “TAYLORCON” to also be owned by Taylor. Aside from the fact that it’s just PAINFULLY obvious the only thing she cares about is money and somehow her fandom is falling for it instead of recognizing it for what it is—her only seeing them as money bags, which i think is a nice way of wording what she sees her literal human fans as—
Aside from the fact that you can’t even tell who her real friends are from who her PR friends are because her posse is just a revolving door and even her known long-term OG friends have not been around since last year, but we definitely know it’s none of the POC people bc they’re just props (Ice Spice) or artists that are more renowned than her who she wants to be talked about in the same sentence as (Lana Del Rey).
Aside from that one of her most public toxic traits she gets away with is queerbaiting to the point that she does that actually sometimes make the Gaylors seem not as crazy as the Eras Fanatics (even if they too take it too far) and makes you see why some in the queer community, such as those in an emotional and vulnerable state would honestly believe she IS SENDING THEM SIGNALS because she knows she needs that demographic to keep her from falling behind rising pop stars that are out selling her and breaking her records in streaming and in the media like Olivia and Sabrina.
Aside from all of that. It’s this. Except it’s also IMPOSSIBLE to ignore everything presented previously and so much more not posted.
She’s a greedy, money-hungry, unethical, selfish narcissist. Worst of all—she’s mean.
YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST WOMAN TO EXPERIENCE FEMALE RAGE AND I ASSURE YOU FEMALE RAGE GOES BEYOND BEING MAD ABOUT BEING GHOSTED.

2024.05.13 15:38 Ocolot03 I've had a really bad new player experience

So I feel like I need to vent a bit here to get it off my chest, because this is so damn frustrating. I fear this might become a long rant... Veterans might disagree, but this is probably the worst new player experience I've ever had in a game. And others may have posted the exact same thing, but as I said, I feel like I just need to get it off my chest, say it to at least someone that will listen.
Edit after writing it all. This got very very long, sorry for the wall of text, and if you read it all, thank you for your time. Now I can breath with a sigh of relief, rant over.
Hopefully devs (if they ever found this post) could see this as a way to improve the game for new players and not see it as straight criticism.
I started playing Destiny 2 a week ago and I've now played for 55 hours, and my experience have been a mixed bag of a few good parts and some really really bad parts. Even for someone who played Destiny 1 for hundreds of hours, the experience has been incredibly confusing and overwhelming. Because of that, I might have a few things mixed up between the first few days, as follows.
First day:
The very start of the game is good with a nice introduction to some basic stuff with a ghost with a good voice actor unlike another ghost I know. As I emerge into the Cosmodrome I get confused for the first time wondering if I have played the game before since I recognize the map (but as I'm writing this I think they just have reused some of the maps). The first missions go by and now I'm thrown into the tower with other players for the first time, wait... Is that a Cabal and a Fallen in the tower?? As Allies?? Uhm.... Ok. Second mayor confusion as I haven't played that story yet. Really strange to see them there without an explanation (Later learning I will never know since that story has been removed from the game...).
I get recommended to play timeline mission to see what I've missed and now realize that Cayde is dead! Sad that he died, I loved that guy, but nice to have those missions there as a kind of recap.
I open the quest log and I'm greeted with three recommended quest lines. Ok, which one should I do? The one on the left says "New light" so that seems like a good start for a new player, but the one in the middle has an image of some badass looking witch queen. The third recommended is about some exotic stuff or something. I get sidetracked for two days until I look more into the witch queen campaign, whoever it is, but I want to do that campaign.
All in all, pretty good first day.
Second day:
The first thing that happens when I start the game is that a cinematic plays (for I assume a payed expansion), and I get thrown into some random mission in some random point in the timeline with some people I don't know who talk about stuff I don't know anything about, and they talk like I'm expected to know this. I can't even remember what it what since I've had a mountain of confusion dropped on me since the second day.
It's at this point I see in the "past timeline" page where you play the Caydes death mission that it says I own all the expansions. What??? I didn't buy the expansions! I think? More confusion, did I really play this game when it came out? Is that why I remember the Cosmodrome map?
After the second day I feel very overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next.
Third day:
Again, the game start with some random ass cinematic that ACTUALLY SPOILS THE ENTIRE STORY!!. A cinematic that shows me this thing called The Witness that looks badass, but apparently is the main bad guy. Who and what is he and why is he all of a sudden here? I just arrived myself! And he just flew into the traveler? Is he the embodiment of darkness if the traveler is the embodiment of light? Perhaps, it's a theory I have at the time, but seeing that was incredibly disappointing since I knew that seeing that was something I wanted to find out in story missions through gameplay. After that major spoiler I get thrown into another random ass mission in some random point in the timeline with more people I don't know, but my player character apparently do since apparently we've worked with each other in the past. Alrighty then...
Now I start to see why so many people give up after just a couple of hours in this game.
Forth day:
If I remember correctly, yet another cinematic for an expansion played when I booted up the game, with yet another introduction mission. Game, come one, what the hell! I say "if I remember correctly" because I've had SO much information thrown into my face over the last few days confusing the hell out me and really overwhelming me with information.
At this point I read online on some random reddit post about something unrelated, that all the expansions are free in May due to the upcoming last expansion. Ooooh, is that why I get these cinematics each time I start the game? Because I technically own them? Albeit, temporarily. That's great in a way, since I've now started The Witch Queen campaign which I now understand costs money. But this is also really bad because of the point I made earlier that it spoiled the entire story for me...
And now as I'm writing this, I've completed the Savathun story I realize that this is the real lore and story way of learning about The Witness for the first time. It didn't feel very impactful hearing about this mysterious person when I've already seen him do cool demi god space magic in the cinematic on day three.
I wont go over day by day after this since those were the most impactful. But now my quest log is filled with quests, which one do I do first? The map is filled with locations and icons, which ones should I care about?
I'm really thrown into the deep end and I almost drown in all the things to do. I really would have loved to have a good new player experience akin to a tutorial. The game kinda does that, but it need to be expanded upon and improved in big ways.
Confusion, confusion and more confusion and I can't possibly write about all of them. Many times I asked myself "Where the hell do I go?" and "What am I supposed to do now?". It doesn't help that the white marker on the hud to point you the right way sometimes is kinda broken and don't really help or it only shows as a triangle on the compass. Thanks for that...
Here are some other confusing parts of my experience with the game:
What the heck is The Veil? I've heard it mentioned by NPCs like four times now expecting me to know what it is. It sounds important. The Witness traveled inside the traveler right? And he/it did it through The Veil? Hmm.
Why on earth are story missions removed from the game!?!?! That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard! I want to explore the story in a linear way, for A to Z, not randomly from past to future to present like it is now. But now I can't do it a linear way?? Now I will never ever learn what The Veil is? I will never truly know why some of our enemies are allied with us? Unless I look it up elsewhere. That's why I got the achievement that I reached level 20 the first time I started the game, because the vanilla story is removed? WOW... I just.. What?? I can't even process how dumb it is to remove vital story missions from the game. How are new players ever going to properly learn about the game? I understand that you want to keep your veterans and whales playing and paying, but you ALWAYS need new players. At some point, veterans and whales will get bored of the game, or life happens, they get married or get a kid and don't have time to play the game. You could argue that they don't care since maybe Destiny 3 is in development, but these lessons need to be taken into account for that game too.
Why did I have to learn about infusing gear by a tips and tricks video on Youtube? That seems like a major part of the game and the game doesn't ever mention it.
Why does the game teach me about gear mods at rank 2 or whenever it was? It says mods are only available at rank 5?
Mara Sovs granddad created the Exos? Will I get a better explanation that just a brief mention?
Why can't I launch this mission from the quest log? It just says "You are unable to launch the selected quest at this time". Why??? Oh, I have to complete mission blahblah, then why doesn't the Launch button take me to that mission?!?! Now I have to find it on the maps. Is it on the moon? Nope, not there. Let's check Neptune, is it there? Nope, not there either. Oh there it is, on Europa! I had to manually find the icon for it on the map. Even more confusion. Now I know that tracking the mission shows a special icon in Destinations, but still, shouldn't the Launch button still take me to the mission, or at the very least to the correct planet? Instead of just having it locked and shortly mention the mission I need to complete in the text above. Now you might say to me "It clearly says what you need to do", but for reason mentioned, it's not very clear for a new player.
How the heck do I unlock artifacts to rank up? It says that I should check my inventory for how to unlock it by hovering over the locked slot. Yeah, that tooltip tells me to complete the Mission "Final wish" or whatever. I did that mission yesterday!! Looking at 5 different guides online I come to the conclusion I have done every step to unlock artifacts yet it's still locked. I finally remembered that on day one I found an "archived missions" kiosk that was empty at the time. I checked it, and lo and behold, there the last step of the mission was, to speak to Mara Sov... Why was it there? did I accidentally abandon the mission? Or did it bug out? More confusion. But speaking to her completed the last step to unlock the artifact.
Now I'm sitting here after 55 hours played and being rank 6, reading online that there's something called finishers that you could do on enemies. What??? Apparently a small info window tells you about this early in the game during combat and then never tell you again, and I missed that. Or I read it but I didn't register the information since I was busy killing enemies. And the game never told me again, like so many other things the game didn't tell me about. One way of doing it, like other games do it is to pause the game with text clearly saying something like "The enemy is at low health, press G to perform a finisher". Then you press G, the game unpause and you perform the finisher. That way, I would have clearly understood how it works. I still haven't tried it yet because I still don't know how low health they need to be, 5% health? or 10?
With this said, I will keep playing it because I still think it's a fun game, at least until end of May, who knows what will be locked once the temporary free content is locked from me. I think the gunplay is amazing and the lore is amazing, even though so much of the story is removed from the game. The space magic looks so cool and I love the looks and "theme" of the game and the enemy faction are so unique and fun to fight against (just like the first game). I just wish I could have had a better intro to the game.
Sorry for an over use of question and exclamation marks, but the intense frustration I feel about this when I write it just does that I guess.
Bottom line is, if you start playing the game as a new player, the game just says "Oh you don't know about the story? Sucks to be you!", "You should have played the game from day one", "Just buy the expansions, it's just a few hundred dollars" and "Suck it up and figure it out on your own".

2024.05.13 13:26 FarmWhich4275 An Alien Plays... Subnautica (Part 1)

"Great days and glorious victory! My name is Spifflemonk and welcome to my Letsplay! Today I am back from my medically mandated break from playing human videogames after a rather... cathartic experience with a game called Teardown. Subnautica, even among humans, is labeled as a notorious experience with... mixed reception for its sequel. A survival crafting game apparently. I have experience with those so presumably the gameplay loop should be predictable enough. So... Let's go in!"
Spiffle starts the game, going for standard Survival Mode, with aspects of food and water mechanics alongside health and oxygen. The game loads very, very fast with Spiffles overpowered computer, and the introduction sequence begins. The camera pans to the panicked sight of the payer character moving down a ladder followed by a sight of a starship above exploding.
"Oh dear... oh dear! They weren't kidding about survival! Do I even survive this or am I a ghost or something..."
The pod rattles, the screen shakes, a fire extinguisher falls from its mounting. Velocity causes the pod to dislodge a panel from a wall and it flies around the cabin. The panel flies into the player's screen, making it go black.
"Oh... well okay then. I uh... well."
Spiffles' character awakens and panics at the buttons securing him to the seat. Spiffle quickly figures out that fire in this game is in fact bad, and grabs the fire extinguisher, putting the fire out. The game's introduction plays, showing his PDA, the game's inventory UI.
"Oh! I have seen these things in real life when visiting human stations! Do all humans have these?"
Spiffle starts exploring the escape pod, noting all of the damage to the radio beacon and the wiring panel.
"Hmm... craft the repair tool... Well... For later I suppose. Now how do i-AH, the ladder!"
Spiffle clicks on the ladder and goes through the animation. The character exits and dramatically stands. Spiffle looks around. His face visibly pales as he looks in every direction, finding the only thing nearby that looks 'safe’ or like 'land' is the destroyed ship in the distance.
"Water... it's... water... everywhere! How big is this game's map!? Structural hull failure... zero human lifesigns detected. That's.. not nice. Well... Here we go!"
Spiffle jumps into the water. His mood changes, the underwater environment significantly different than above ground. The water is absolutely teeming with life and color, as Spiff swims towards a reef to stare at some coral. Spiff gets distracted and starts chasing a fish, specifically a Peeper, and grabs it.
"Oh! Good god! THAT'S how humans catch fish!? That's very... inefficient! What is this thing? Can I eat it? I know I'm supposed to take care of my food and water, so how do I eat it?"
Spiffle wanders about for a while, gathering resources and exploring his general location, eventually getting back to the pod. He had gathered up a decent amount of stuff while he was swimming around and accessed the Fabricator to see what was available.
"Ah! I see, the fabricator cooks things too. Uhm... cooked fish thing and... these transparent fish give me water bottles? Okay then! Well. Sorted for food anyway. Let's see. Copper wire, batteries. A Scanner? Does that mean I can like, scan things and tell what they are? And... Oxygen tank? Oh hell yes. I'll build that then."
Spiffle goes through the process of building a few things, checking out how the game's crafting system works, and spending more time collecting resources. He quickly realizes how much work he has to do and finally finishes making a Scanner.
"Okay then well... I can see how much time is going to be spent collecting resources so i'm going to edit all of that out and keep you all in the loop on all the fun parts instead."
Spiffle continues playing, inserting a creative, albeit mildly annoying fanciful scene transition in between resource loops. He comes to a cave looking for salt to make more equipment, when he encounters the first hostile enemy of the game: The Crashfish. He does not notice it at first, the strange sloppy noise it makes as its pod opens, the beast makes a terrible gurgly noise and charges straight at him.
"What is that noi-AH! OY! OI! OIIII what are you what are-!"
Spiffle is cut off as the fish explodes, causing him to lose half his health. He quickly surfaces and takes a breath.
"Okay then... OKAY... THAT... makes absolutely no sense from an evolutionary perspective... but okay then. Avoid those. What even was that? I can't even scan it because it was moving so fast! Gods... exploding fish."
Spiffle shakes his head and resumes his hunt for resources, eventually finding enough for a repair tool. He makes the repair of the pods' broken wiring and looks around a bit more, noting some of the details in the game.
"Hard to believe these games are over eight hundred years old! I keep getting requests to play 'them gud ol' gamez' instead of any new releases. Maybe I'll get to those eventually. I have quite the backlog though."
Spiffle quickly tabs out and shows the huge list of human made games on his list that he has been gifted or purchased himself. The list includes Space Marine, Starship Troopers, Spyro Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot, and so... so many more.
"I am also told about this thing called 'anime', whatever that is. Maybe I should look into that. Anyway..."
Spiffle shrugs for now and resumes playing, swimming around for a bit before finally deciding to use his scanner. He gets the first scan - the Acid Mushroom - and painstakingly reads the supplied article. He then goes on a scanning frenzy, scanning each thing he can find, comically chasing after various fish and objects, trying to scan them then taking an irritatingly long time to read the article aloud.
He gets to the point where he encounters his first real hostile enemy and tries to scan it. The stalker, of course, doesn't appreciate that, and attacks.
"Oooh what's this thing? Oh lovely, it's a big one. Can I scan it? The... Stalker? Oh okay is it friend-OW! NONONONO go away!"
Spiffle panics and scans it while running away from it, trying to swim backwards. He's so focused on scanning it he can't run far enough away that he gets ambushed by another Stalker nearby and manages to scan it just as he gets hit with his first Death in the game.
"Oh.... o...kay. Well... it seems things aren't as friendly as expected. I'm going to guess there's more things like that around. So... I'm just going to finish working on repairs and equipment then I'll take those things on."
Spiffle reads the article on the Stalker he scanned and spends more time collecting resources, scanning local entities and building the rest of the gear he has. Fins, high capacity O2 tank, rebreather and some more food and water which he stores in floating containers for later. He starts to explore a bit farther in search of fragments to scan and finds a Sand Shark, as well as a biome resembling a desert-like area. He encounters his first piece of the wrecked ship here.
"Oh! Hello! Pieces of wreckage! What are these for now do you suppose? Can I disassemble these for resources or-Oh! Is that a door? Oh! I'm supposed to go in here and look for things? How do I get in? Oh I can't. I need a laser cutter. Is one of those here? Need more fragments I guess..."
Spiffle gives up trying to enter and goes up for air, then returns to the floor to hunt for fragments. He eventually unlocks the Bioreactor, pieces of the Scanner room, a couple fragments of the Seaglide and Seamoth. He comes across the first cave entrance to the Mushroom Caves Biome.
"Oh... oh my. That's... deep. Good thing I unlocked the Seamoth thing. Its a miniature submarine I think. I can use that. But that's... kinda scary. I can't see the bottom. I kinda see just... purple. Mostly purple. But it scares me that I can't see the bottom."
Spiffle hangs around the cave entrance for a bit before a call for Oxygen forces him to the surface. He swims back down to the cave entrance and then hangs around a bit longer before once again resurfacing, heading for some new things to scan. It is however at this point that Spiffles exploration is cut short.
"EMERGENCY - SEISMIC READINGS SUGGEST A QUANTUM DETONATION HAS OCCURRED IN THE AURORA'S DRIVE CORE. THE CENTRAL DARK MATTER REACTOR WILL REACH A SUPERCRITICAL STATE IN -"
The computer aboard the PDA shakes Spiff out of his daze and he quickly rushes to the surface and looks at the ship.
"Wait wait wait what's that!? What's going on!? I see the ship? The Aurora! That's what its name is? Whats a Dark Matter reactor and wha-"
The computer continues its countdown muffled by Spiffs panicked squealing and he has a front-row seat to one of the most spectacular explosions in the history of gaming - the Aurora's Reactor Detonation.
It happens. The world goes dead silent for a short moment, and one can see Spiffles heart visibly stop beating. Then explosion as the Aurora lets out its magnificent blast. As the shockwave expands outwards, Spiffs skin visibly turns a paler shade of blue, and his eyes go wide. The sound of a geiger counter follows, leaving him breathless and pale as the world suddenly goes dead quiet again. The sound of the geiger counter ominously leaving him shaken even more than he already is.
"FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE - THE RADIATION SUIT HAS BEEN ADDED TO YOUR BLUEPRINTS."
Spiffle stays completely silent, bobbing in the water for a solid few minutes, staring in shocked wonder at what he just witnessed. He regains his composure for a few short moments and returns to his scanning venture, but one can easily see he isn't in the right mind after that. He returns to the seabed, at the entrance to the mushroom caves and dives again. He does this several more times, popping up to the surface, looking at the shipwreck, then diving at the entrance again. Finally, after much hesitation, he dives one last time.
"Screw it. it's just a game right?"
He smiles at the camera with a shrug and swims far below the surface, into one of the caves. As he enters the cavern his jaw drops at the sight of a massive underwater cavern filled with gigantic glowing pink mushrooms. The Mushroom caves as they are known. He spots something in the distance, entranced, forgetting his oxygen situation. He cant get far however and a terrifying shriek of some unknown entity shakes him out of his stupor.
"What in the red dawn was that noise!?"
Spiff can't finish asking his invisible audience what's going on as he strays too close to a mushroom, occupied by a Crab Snake, a gigantic sea worm. He is grabbed from behind, spun around and he visibly panics as the giant worm digs its enormous tusks into Spiffles character. Spiffle immediately freaks out, a combination of both the terrifying shriek emitted by the creature and the shock of being attacked makes poor Spiffle jump out of his seat and duck under the table.
"GOWAYGOWAYGOWAGOWAYGOWAY!!!"
The worm comes back and finishes Spiff off before his oxygen runs out. Spiff's character respawns but the footage continues, a slight whimper can be heard in the background as Spiff hides under the desk. This carries on for a few minutes, and his head very slowly appears above the desk. He gingerly puts himself back in his seat and breathes heavily for a bit. When he finally gains control, he tabs out of the game and takes a look at the wiki for Subnautica. He returns a few moments later and stares at the camera in that strange haunting glare he's become so famous for.
"WHY DO YOU STUPID DEVELOPERS NOT PUT GUNS IN THE GAME IF YOU HAVE SHIT LIKE THAT!? ARE YOU INSANE!?"
He grabs the camera and shakes it violently as he rants at it, questioning why there are guns in every other human game he has played and not THIS specific game, especially considering how there are 'giant water snake monsters that eat your face' in a game with no guns. He rants for a good minute or two then plays his outro.
TOP COMMENT: "Are you absolutely sure after Teardown, Factorio and Project ZOMBOID, you should be playing Subnautica? I mean seriously, try something less... psychologically terrifying. It's known as Thalassophobia Simulator for a reason."
_______________________________________________________________
"Great days and glorious victory! My name is Spifflemonk and I still don't understand why we have giant worm monsters but we have no guns!"
Spiffle stares at the camera with an expression that can only be summarized as 'Seriously bruh?' and resumes his last playthrough. He becomes confused at the lack of stuff in his inventory.
"Why is my... Why do I not ha-Oh right... I was eaten. When you die your inventory is wiped... I need to build more tools then."
Spiffle starts some silly music, an alien version of Benny Hill to a montage of him collecting resources, occasionally ranting at various oddities and questioning game logic. He restores all of his tools then goes hunting for a Vehicle Bay fragment so he can build the Seamoth. He continues to scan what he can, developing something of an obsession with the task, then painstakingly reading every word about it to try and understand it. It is at this point Spiffle, during his explorations finds another derelict chunk of ship near the desert region, encountering his first Sand Shark.
"What... What is this? Oh... careful Spiff. This one looks angrier than the last one you found. Wh-What in oblivion!?"
Spiffles attention is once again diverted by the appearance of a Reefback Leviathan and its signature low drone. This one appears to be a fully grown adult.
"You-you... You've got to be... You gotta be fucking kidding me. A Juhara Eelfish!? WHAT IS THAT DOING IN A HUMAN VIDEOGAME!!!??"
Spiffle squeaks in shock as he sees a creature that is an absolute spitting image of a large oceanic dwelling sea creature, which is both the games and his native homeworlds version of a Whale. The Reefback has some dissimilarities, but its close enough to the real thing that Spiffle is genuinely shocked. He quickly pauses the game, opening various wikipedia articles, then displays a full picture of both Subnautica in game Reefback, and the Juhara-Kal-Rehar, colloquially known as a Juhara Eelfish, a shockingly similar creature that lives in his homeworlds oceans.
The only difference between them is the color of the exterior chitin shell. The Reefback has a blue/purple shell, the Juhara Eelfish's chitin has a red/green shell.
"WHEN was this game made!?"
Spiff checks, the current Earth-date is the year 2886. Humanity only entered the galactic community in 2752. Subnautica was released in 2018.
"HOW.... How is that even possible!? You didn't even know the galaxy existed until only a few decades ago, yet you almost PERFECTLY matched the appearance of one of our homeworlds native species! How is this even possible!? Okay. If the name matches then I have to call bullshit."
Spiffle approaches and scans it, then reads the data article.
"A... Reefback Leviathan? Oh thank God... Now let's see... A herbivorous creature that... that likely got so large due to the fact that its predators went extinct. Well... that's... okay... A hard chitinous shell of multiple layers, a microcosm of different creatures and flora growing from its back, hence the name. Hmmm..."
Spiffle gets that cold, empty stare on his face and glares menacingly at the camera. The screen goes black, then returns, seeing Spiffle nursing a beverage of some kind while wrapped in a blanket.
"I realized something... Call it a message from the Ancestors or a Divine revelation. But I have a funny feeling this isn't going to be the last time I see a creature from the galaxy represented in human media. I hope to the Gods that doesn't happen... the concept of this situation is nothing short of terrifying. In any case, I'm sorry about that. Lets.... let's continue."
Spiffle resumes where he left off, doing his usual routine of scanning, then obsessively reading. Eventually he unlocks the Vehicle Bay, and returns home to his pod where the situation with resources is growing obscene with at least fifty floating resource containers hovering around the area.
"Alright... A Vehicle Bay... This means I can build things like the Seamoth now. This will be nice. Right, I shall for the sake of my audience skip the resource collection mechanic that's here and focus on the actual result. I shan't waste my time either though. MONTAGE!"
Spiff yells excitedly and a montage to that same odd Benny Hill type music plays out, with him collecting the resources he needs to build both machines. Most of it is already in the floating containers strewn about. With a few visits to the fabricator, he compiles the Power Cell, Titanium Ingot and Lubricant he needs to make the Vehicle Bay. He deploys it and chases it to the surface just away from the pod in the deeper end of the shallows.
"Right... Not too hard. Let's see then, how do-Ah. Get on it and... The Seamoth. Cost of two glass, one titanium ingot, a powercell, lead and lubricant. Right."
He quickly gathers and makes everything he needs for the Seamoth, then stands on the platform ready to go. He chooses the Seamoths recipe and the sequence starts. His eyes light up as drones start flying around the platform, then begin assembling atom by atom, the small, adorable minisub known as the Seamoth. It finishes the process and flops into the water with a splash.
"My gods look at this thing! It's so cute!"
Spiffle explores the sub for a little while and hops inside it, testing the controls and playing around with it a bit to see what it can do.
"Hm... Maximum Depth, 200 meters? So if I go below that does it implode or something? I need to be careful of that. OH dammit I remember! I have to make that Radiation Suit don't I? I shall do so now!"
Spiffle seems to have found a new resolve, quickly gathering resources together and making both a Seaglide and radiation suit in short order.
"Does this thing have any weapons? How do I repair-Oh... Repair tool? That makes it easier I suppose. Now... Where do I go now? Is there anything I can do?"
Spiffle stumbles about in the blind for a few minutes, trying to figure out his next course of action beyond simply wandering aimlessly while scanning things. He gets back in the pod and fixes the radio beacon. His face visibly contorts into an expression of irritation when he hears his rescue is in 9999 hours. He resolves to come back every now and then to check the radio. He decides to gather more resources to make up for building the seamoth and comes back a bit later. He finds a radio transmission when he returns.
"RADIO: ▀▖┗▛Nine new biological subjects designated. Mode ▄▖▜▚┣: hunting/analyzing.
Sharing subject locations with other agents."
"What... in the Nine Hells was THAT!? Why was it in such an odd voice? What was that language? What were those letters!? Somethings going on here... SO now what? I have the radiation suit. i guess... go into the Aurora? Oh no, I'm not going in there unprepared! Lemme make some tools and spare batteries, then i'll go in. I need... Oh... I need more fragments is what I need."
Spiffle resumes his fragment hunt, looking around for fragments of various tools. He uses the Seamoth to traverse around.
"WHEEE!!!"
Spiff seems more than just a bit happy as he trundles around in the Seamoth, using his speed to launch himself out of the water. He splashes about a bit, testing the limits of the craft and trying to see what holes he can squeeze himself into or out of and how deep he can go.
"Okay okay. time to get to serious work. Now... I need to find... A Laser Cutter and a... STASIS RIFLE?! Wait... rifle? That means GUN! I NEED A GUN!!"
Spiffle charges forward towards the desert biome where he found the Reefback and resumes his search for things to scan. It is now he comes across a Reginald.
"What... IS this fish? Wait, let me just..."
He gets out of the Seamoth and scans it.
"Huh... Reginald. That's a... fish? It's so cute! Wait, come back friend!"
Spiffle spends an unreasonable amount of time trying to catch a Reginald. When he finally catches one he gets back in the Seamoth and heads towards the aurora, new friend in tow. He trundles over to the side of the crashed ship and scans some random stuff here and there, finding fragments to a few small items, including a few he needs such as a Powercell Charger for the Seamoth’s battery. He gets close to the front of the ship and the haunting, evil noise of Subnautica's most iconic killer suddenly echoes through the gloomy water.
"What... Was that? Is it another worm thing? Please don't let it be one of those..."
Spiffle wanders around the side for a bit longer. An ominous shadow looms in the background, catching his eye. He ignores it for the moment and simply carries on, eventually arriving at the entrance to the ship. Through the mangled steel and fire he squeezes into the front of the ship and looks around. The environment ominously rattles and his screen shakes as the ships structure isn't exactly stable. The howl of the creature in the shadows makes Spiff even more uncomfortable.
"I... Do NOT like this. I really dont."
Spiff parks the Seamoth where he can see a ramp leading up, and gets out. He is immediately accosted by Cave Crawlers and uses his knife to defend himself, poorly, but he gets rid of the three or four around him.
"WARNING: SCANS SHOW THE DIGESTIVE TRACTS OF INDIGENOUS LIFE FORMS CONTAIN HUMAN TISSUE."
Spiffs face turns an even paler shade of blue and he swallows visibly as if he's trying not to vomit.
"Yeuch... I can scan this thing and read it later. I don't want to be here any longer than I have to."
Spiff scans and follows the path to the interior, uses his fire extinguisher to put out some fires in the area and gets inside. The ship rumbles as he wanders around and gets into one of the rooms. He finds the poster of the P.R.A.W.N. Suit.
"Ooh! A poster thing? Can I take it or? I can! PRAWN Suit eh? Can I actually use that thing?"
Spiff takes the poster, scans some furniture and collects a PDA. Spiff continues down the corridor and retrieves his Propulsion Cannon from his inventory and uses it to pick up some furniture in the way.
"I am SO glad I got this thing from scanning the area before I came here. This is super useful! I wonder if it has other uses..."
He gets to the door and looks at his databank.
"Hmm... Here it is! Code for the door is 1454. Right."
Spiff moves through, repairing a door to get the Seamoth Depth Upgrade Module. He continues and clears a fire to enter the main reactor. His inner loot goblin shines through and grabs the Cyclops engine efficiency module before he starts work on repairs, scanning the breach and starting work. It doesn't take him long, but he gets issues with a Bleeder that lives in the waters. He scans one then finishes repairs. Foolishly, he uses the propulsion cannon and shoots the bleeder at one of the reactors, undoing his work. He looks at the damage he caused and repairs it.
"Well... what was I expecting... Why did I do that? It's a CANNON... why did I aim it at the reactor exactly? So stupid..."
Spiff finishes and heads to the PRAWN Bay, and looks around at the damage. He spots the prawn suits and starts scanning, grabbing a storage module upgrade from a console and starts extinguishing flames so he can scan. He runs out of fire extinguisher juice though.
"Blast! Can I still scan these if they're on fire?"
Spiff walks around, finding cheeky angles he can use and scans the debris, finding all four fragments he needs. He heads upstairs and goes through the rooms and everything he can find. He gets into the Galley and sees the Kitty in a Space Helmet Poster.
"What the- 'Keep Calm'? What in the blue balls is this? It's.... cute! What is this creature!? Can I keep this? I can!"
Spiffle excitedly grabs the poster and moves on. He goes through cabins, picks up PDAs and collects the Natural Selection 2 poster, the Prawn suit in the sea poster and the collectible arcade toy in the locked cabin. Lacking the code to the Captain's cabin, he returns to the prawn bay and tries swimming around, eventually finding a passage in the hull debris to the rest of the ship. He moves through in silence, recovers the black box data and exits the ship. He removes debris, grabs the local wildlife with the cannon and tosses them into fires or the water with glee.
"BEGONE BEAST!!! Ha! Right... uhh... where did i park? Oh, there it is. Should I go home? I wonder if there are any fragments I can use around here?"
Spiff exits, finding Liefpod 4 floating upside down on the surface of the water. He collects the PDA data and a new blueprint. Then, as he gets in the seamoth, the horrifying roar of the Reaper Leviathan suddenly sounds. Spiff is thrown into a panic, screams in terror and tries desperately to get away. The beast appears with jaw chomping and claws clawing at the poor Seamoth. The entire time Spiffle is screeching like a bird with a broken leg, his entire body now an almost ghostly white out of absolute terror.
"GOWAYGOWAYGOWAYGOWAYGODNONNONOGOWAYGOWAY!!!"
Spiffle manages to get out of its grip and in a panic charges away towards his lifepod and continues to scream, breathing hard between screams. He gets to the pod and then hides under his desk, continuing to scream. His channel outro plays.
TOP COMMENT: (This has been translated from Eridani) "I am starting to believe this whole sojourn was a very BAD idea. Do you humans have those kinds of beasts on your homeworld? How did you ever survive them?!"
RESPONSE: LOL no we never had Reapers. The only Leviathan Class creatures we have on our planet are Whales. And they're mostly peaceful plankton eaters. Mostly.
RESPONSE: (Translated from Eridani) "Seriously? I think I find it more terrifying that these creatures are made up in your minds. What kind of nightmares do you people have to be able to create this level of fiction!?"
RESPONSE: Do. Not. Ask. This is only Subnautica - we have FAR worse.
Spiffles response: "You're going to make me play these 'far worse', aren't you?"
RESPONSE: "Damn right we are! :)"
________________________________________________________
"Great days and glorious victory! My name is Spifflemnonk and welcome back to Subnautica!"
Spiffle looks visibly stronger, his usual lanky appearance now looking like he's been working out like a Gym Bro. One can see muscles on muscles and Spiff seems to have an abnormal amount of energy.
"I am now relaxed. It is now time to get eaten by giant scary sea monsters. And yes, before you ask, I have successfully finished fully soundproofing my office. And also yes, I am indeed expecting a new addition to the brood... THANKS DAMN HUMANS! You and your damn musical magic nonsense..."
Spiffle starts the game and is swimming outside the pod next to the Seamoth. The first thing he does is repair the seamoth from the damage incurred by the Reaper, and recounts what hes been up to, checking inventory and equipment. He heads to the radio and gets a new transmission.
RADIO - "This is Avery Quinn of trading ship Sunbeam. Aurora, do you read? Over.'
'Nothing but vacuum. These Alterra ships. They run low on engine grease, they send an SOS; you offer to help, they don't pick up.'
'Aurora, we're out on the far side of the system, it's going to take more than a week to reach your position, do you still need our assistance? Over.'
'I'll try them again tomorrow. Damn charter's going to have us wasting our profit margin running errands for Alterra.'
'See what the long-range scanner picks up in the meantime."
"Oh? Oh lovely! There ARE people in this game! I wonder when they will be here? Meh, I have things to build, so I'll keep an eye."
Spiffle resolves himself to start building a base, trying to find a good spot. He finds the Mushroom Forest Biome and starts gathering resources to ferry them around. He installs the Depth Module and the Storage module to the Seamoth, then builds the Moon Pool. The Mushroom Biome becomes one of his favorite spots and a close encounter with a JellyRay cements it.
"Those creatures are beautiful! Look! JellyRay! Its glowing blue and pretty! I love that! Oh... I have a new radio message. I need to listen to that then."
Spiff returns to the pod and listens to the message.
RADIO - "Aurora, this is Sunbeam again. We just picked up a massive debris field at your location.'
'I didn't know how bad... How many of you... I didn't know.'
'We are now en route to your location. We're going to bring you home. Sunbeam out.'
'What else can I say? The only time I parked a rig this big on a rock that small was in VR, and I blew it'
'Oh, it's a bad option alright, but so are all the others."
Spiff smiles and carries on working, parking the Seamoth inside after powering everything up.
"So lovely! But... Is that a win condition? I know human games by now I have played enough of them. Is that a win condition? Get rescued? I dunno..."
Spiffle carries on building for a little and gets a storage system up, spending a few in-game days transporting resources to his new base. He returned to the pod and played a new radio message, again from the Sunbeam.
RADIO - "This is Sunbeam. Y'know, Aurora, we're from a little trans-gov on the far side of Andromeda, and we have a saying there.'
'There's no bad without the good, no good without the bad.'
'Sounds like you tasted a bunch of the former, but that only means you're overdue a whole lot of the latter.'
'Might just be we're it.'
'We're scanning for somewhere to park, we'll be in touch when we find it. Sunbeam out."
"Ohh... That... that's a lovely saying! What was that uh... There's no bad without the good, no good without the bad. I like that! I think i'll have that framed on my wall! Now lets see.. i ca- I CAN GIVE THE SEAMOTH A NAME? OOHHHhh okay, okay.. I can customize the color too! I think I'll just do this..."
Spiff leaves the name as 'Seamoth' for now, changing the color to a mix of purple for the main, and blue for the trim and name color. His two favorite colors. Spiffle does a little more work, acquiring the last fragments for the Cyclops and starts gathering together the resources necessary to build it.
"Hmmm.. Cyclops... Personal large scale submarine capable of carrying other vehicles! Ooohhh I want to build that! I need to fetch the Vehicle Bay though. Im almost done moving house!"
Spiff returns and packs up the last of his resources, then gets another radio message.
RADIO - "Aurora, we're approaching the planet now, and we have a landing site for you that's... well, it's better than the alternatives.'
'We've sent you the coordinates.'
'It'll take us a couple of days to align our orbit, we should be able to establish direct contact with you during that time, then we're coming in to get you.'
'Cross your fingers the weather holds, and don't leave us waiting. Sunbeam out."
Spiffle gets a new beacon on his HUD. Sunbeam Landing Site.
"What!? Is this game over If I'm there!? Okay... well. At least it's no longer terrifying! I'll get the Seamoth and go for the beacon then. I hope it's okay... Strange... this... doesn't feel like the end, you know? But if it is then it is."
Spiff heads home, deploys the Vehicle Bay and deposits his gear and resources. He heads towards the location, occasionally squealing 'WHEEE!!' as he uses the Seamoth to jump out of the water like a dolphin. However, he miscalculates and the Seamoth jumps up, out and sustains a bit of damage as it hits a rock formation close to the surface. He gets out, repairs it and looks at the camera.
"Why no I didn't just damage my Seamoth by having too much fun. I don't know what you are talking about. Hehe."
Spiffle smirks at the camera with a glare and carries on. Eventually, he encounters the largest of the Islands in the world.
"Wh... WHAT. This has been here the whole time!? Is this an island? Who cares! LAND! Sweet land!"
Spiffle now notices the timer and hops onto the island from his Seamoth. He walks up to the landing zone and stops dead in his tracks at the sight of the massive al;ien structure known as the Quarantine Enforcement Platform. In essence, a giant alien cannon.
"What... the *beep* is THAT?"
Spiffles' editing has gotten better, his editor learning how to censor Spiffles foul language, in both English AND Eridani. He moves closer to the building, scanning the broken tablet and the Forcefield Controls.
"What is this? I mean it's clearly alien... What do the codex entries say... 'possible to reconstruct the device' Oh... hmm.. I can make more of these then. 'Matches no known technologies... functions like a lock'. Okay then so... Standard video game logic I guess. That's nice! So A purple tablet will unlock the gate there. What are those?"
Spiff moves towards the Cairns marking the way into the island, pathways leading up the mountainside. He follows them, finding a Purple Tablet in the process on one of the pathways.
"Oh! Lovely! That saves me resources and a trip I guess. This pathway keeps going though. hmm... Welp, we still have thirty minutes, so let's go."
Spiff explores the pathway, getting lost a bit before finally figuring that following the large cables is a good idea. He comes across the Teleportation Arch and scans it, in between dodging the Cave Crawlers.
"Right, let's see... Alien Arch... not much to speak of here. Maybe this thing will be useful later I guess. Likely.... Hmmm..."
Spiffle continues exploring and eventually finds himself back at the forcefield with another twenty minutes to go.
"Screw it, let's go."
Spiff activates the forcefield platform and the animation of the key being placed plays out. He moves into the building, activating both data platforms and acquiring two Ion Cubes for later, scanning everything he thinks he can scan. He enters the Moonpool in the bay and gets two more Ion Cubes, plus data on a rifle and a Doomsday Device. He ignores it for now, acquiring one more purple tablet and accessing the control room.
"Right... what's in here? Hmm... Energy Core, right. I shall scan that and... press button?"
Spiff presses the button. An animation plays where a device locks his characters hand in place, viciously stabs it with a pointy metal bit and then releases it.
"OH GODS what the hell! Why is that?! That's just nasty!"
"THE TERMINAL IS BROADCASTING A MESSAGE. TRANSLATION READS: 'Warning, infected individuals may not disable the weapon. This planet is under quarantine.'"
"Quarantine! What? Infected? I-Hold on...."
Spiffle gets his scanner out and performs a self-scan. It is only now he notices something very bad has happened.
"I-infected!? Wait, what!?"
"SELF-SCAN COMPLETE - DETECTING STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT BACTERIAL LEVELS. NO ADVERSE EFFECTS DETECTED. BE VIGILANT FOR SYMPTOMS."
"Oh brilliant! Does that mean I can't leave? I KNEW IT! Wait... weapon!? This is a weapon!?"
Spiffle panics and runs out of the facility as fast as he can and waits the last few minutes for the Sunbeam to arrive. Sure enough, it does. In the last 30 seconds, the Sunbeam plays a message.
RADIO - "Survivor, we see you!
'Man, I don't know how you held out down there.'
The sunbeams message plays, and Spiffle gasps in terror from the sound of the gun platform starting up and starting to move around.
RADIO - "We've broken atmosphere and we're descending towards the landing site.'
'Is that a building down there?! What do you mean you can't identify it?"
The weapon powers up and turns, aiming itself high at the sky.
RADIO - "Hold on, no turning back now.'
'Positions everyone, touching down in 10, 9, 8-'
The weapon charges up and a loud vicious hum can be heard echoing through the valley.
RADIO - "It's coming from the building?! Change course, set thrusters to (full)-"
The radio goes to static, the weapon fires and the Sunbeam is vaporized instantly by a massive blast of bright green light. The sunbeam disappears, its hull structure completely disintegrated. Spiffle sits in stunned silence as the platform returns to a stable position, shuts down, and everything goes quiet.
"Well... Okay then... That was... horrifying. I guess thats all we have time for! Hehe! Oh dear..."
Spiffle looks a bit defeated as he sits back in his seat.
"S-see you next time! I guess... Holy shit..."
Channel Outro plays.
TOP COMMENT: "Are you okay? You seem a little bit too disturbed by that. Its fine though, compared to what happens in the Rise Of The Ancients Mod, this is tame! Lol! I love that mod!"
Spiffles Response: "Please don't make me play that mod..."
((Authors note - due to how bastardingly huge Subnautica is, this will be a multi part series. Other Spiff stories will come inbetween. Hope you enjoy!))

2024.05.13 13:20 timperman Elena The Friend of the Dead

Elena The Friend of the Dead is a woman from Bilgewater who after the Ruination travelled to the Shadow Isles just to take care of lost sad ghosts.
She quality for may contest by having a kit greatly connected to lore and her ultimate is also unique as it is a conditional passive.
Lore:
Lore:
Elena never got along with other people, they were way to confusing for her. Most enjoyed loud environments with a lot of people and sounds, said things such as How are you today? Without ever actually caring about how the person actually are. While she was born in Bilgewater, it never really felt like home. Although, she did enjoy sailing out at sea to just be alone with the waters. Out there she primarily thought about stories or read them. Just making sure she caught at least some fish before returning to shore to make sure no one would cuss her out. One day she was out far and encountered a strange creature. It was a lost little ghost who had tried to escape the Shadow Isle. It at first got really scared of Elena, but she was able to comfort it and eventually it got close enough for Elena to hug it. She was honestly not sure how it happened, but the little ghost became her friend and she hid it as she returned home.
Back at her home she studied more about ghosts and the Ruination, TBC
Appearance:
Elena is a tall woman in a colorful and moderately revealing dress. Her entire body and face is tattooed in Day of the Dead style, giving her an undead look even though she is still very much alive.
Her Ghostlings are pretty traditional cute little ghosts you would find in children's tales.
Her general demeanor and attitude is very cheery and wholesome with a touch of macabre fascination with death.
Gameplay overview:
Elena is an in combat scaling mage who thrives from prolonged fights. The gameplan revolves around her Q summoning more and more ghostlings to help her fight.
Stats:

Passive: Ghostlings!
Elena always have at least one ghostling by her side, spawning a new one as soon as the current one leaves.
When not by Elena's side, they last for 5 seconds before returning to Elena.
When a Ghostling returns to Elena, if it has used Ghost Strike, it will restore some health and mana.
Health Restored: 10 - 50 (+5% AP) health + 2% missing health Mana restore: 5 - 25 (+2,5% AP) mana + 1% missing mana Ghostling by her side rotates around her at a distance of 50 units.

Active: Command all Ghostlings, including the one by her side, to travel a set distance towards targeted location.
If a target is struck multiple times in one cast, hits after the first deals 50% damage. Ghostlings land between 300 - 450 units away from the target and attempt to spread out. If a ghostling hits no target, it can be fired again if its duration allows. If the ghost by her side misses at target, it will instantly return to her. As it has not triggered Ghost Strike, it will not heal. Ghost Strike Damage: 40 / 52 / 64 / 76 / 88 (+40% AP) (+4 per level) Ghost travel distance: 900 units Cost: 24 / 28 / 32 / 36 / 40 mana Cooldown: 1,5 seconds
W: Group Hug
Active: Channel for up to 1,6 seconds, returning up to 4 Ghostlings over the duration. Each Ghostling returned grants a shield and movement speed for a few seconds.
These ghosts have their duration reset and will follow Elena closely until they expire or are sent away.
Passive: If a target is hit by 5 or more Ghost Strikes in short succession, they are stunned. This has a cooldown per target.
Recalled ghosts will restore health and mana, they will only do so again if they use Ghost Strike. E: Big Ghostling
Toss a big ghost onto targeted location, it then strikes in an area around itself, dealing damage and slowing enemies hit. If at least one enemy is hit, it then remains for 5 seconds.
Casting Ghost Attack will cause big ghosts to jump a short distance in targeted direction and then strike again in an area around itself, resetting its duration.
Damage: 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 (+55% AP) Slow: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% Slow duration: 1 second Jump range: 300 units. Radius of strike: 150 Cost: 70 mana Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 seconds
R: Dance Macabre
More friends!: Every few seconds, gain an additional Ghostling by her side. She can hold up to 1/2/3 extra Ghostlings.
Dance Macabre: If at least 7 Ghostlings are active at once, they get really excited and begin to party. This causes areas around ghostlings to be filled with ghastly energy, dealing constant damage to nearby enemies.
Ghostlings also moves much faster during Dance Macabre
The damage is increased for every additional ghostling beyond 7.
Additional Ghostling recharge: 7 / 6 / 5 seconds. The area of effect is decided by drawing 250 unit thick lines between Elena and all ghostling. Any area completely surrounded by such lines are also filled in. Damage: 40 / 65 / 90 (+25% AP) per second, dealt every 0,5 seconds. Movement speed increase: 50% Damage per additional ghost: 10%
Animations:
Passive: A ghostling pop out of the staff and circle around her. Returning ghosts go small and return to the staff.
Q: She points at a location, all ghostlings charge in the direction. Striking an enemy cause the ghostlings to stay attached the the target for a brief moment and then pop off in a random direction.
W: She yells to her ghosts to protect her. Ghost flies back and she gains a magical shield effect.
E: A big ghost pushes it self out of the staff and she then catapults it away. It lands and cause a small shockwave. When reactivated with Ghost Attack it jumps and smash down again.
Ability details and strategy.
The ghost by her side circles around her and when using Q, it travels from its current location. If she has multiple ghostlings from W or R passive, they will target similar to Heimer W.
Q target a location which all Ghostlings will aim for individually, this can be outside any ghostlings range and they will do their best to reach it.
Big Ghostlings count for Dance Macabre so it can be triggered quickly by having 4 ghosts by her side at level 16+, landing all, using E and then landing two more Q.

2024.05.13 09:36 ScaryB4TMAN12 Robbie reyes The All rider Concept

Robbie reyes - Statagist
Primary/Auto attack is a mid ranged attack wielding is his iconic hell chain the tip of the attack deals a tad extra dmg ( dealing dmg builds up heat, incrementally harming himself but increases his healing potency)
Secondary fire you hold down the button the longer you do the further the ability reaches, you fling the chains forward if hitting a teamate itll pass over what built up healing stacks youve gained while tugging them towards you a little
but hitting an enemy will both tug them towards you a tad bit and applies a burn to them ( the burning will also proc the side eefect of the primary fire)
note he wields 2 chains so both an enemy and teamate are hit the opposing effects proc at half strengh
ability 1- target a teammate and the hell charger will come from the depths of hell abruptly giving them a ride ( player who gets affected may have control over the direction it goesmaking it a great escape ability or push ability however its super loud and leaves a flaming trail behind so it can be clear where the players gone)
ability 2- ?? not sure what to have here because i would put penence stare here however id like to think that johnny blaze ghost rider would join the game and he'd have it as an ultimate also another reason why id made the choice to make robbie a statagist and wanted johnny to be a duelist and have them do a combo of sorts maybe something related to either ones vehicals temp swapping their roles and kit.
Ultimate- All Rider- within a certain range hed manifest chains that binds himself to teamates ( to similate the idea hes riding them because the idea is that hes able to "drive" anything even people thats why hes got the all rider title he gains control of those players ground movements or alternatively they cant leave the boundry made by the ultimate) applying the side effect of the primary fire howver with the additional effect that while you obtain healing potency increase they recieve a dmg buff if they are duelist, healing potency buff if they are another statagist and for vanguard something like a increase to health.

Reroll means that you make a new account and look at what you got from your scout. If you don't like your first few multi-pulls, you delete the account and create a new one again and so on until you are satisfied.

Why reroll?

How to Reroll?
If you're an existing player, delete your local data or cache first. Otherwise, do not link your account to Nintendo. Doing so will bind your PokĂŠmon Masters account to your Nintendo profile permanently and can no longer be removed.
As of now, if you progress up to the point when co-op mode is unlocked, you can get at least 21.000 gems, the equivalent of 7 multis, earning at least 231/400 scout points (33 scout points per multi scout), allowing you to scout at least 77 Sync Pairs. In-Game FAQ

1. When is anniversary coming?
Half-year 28 February 6AM UTC
Full-year 28 August 6AM UTC
2 Why hasn't my Pokemon evolved? It's at Level [X]!
Evolution requires an evolution item available in the Training Area (Evolution Material Area). Upon earning the Evolution Materials, you need to go to the Sync Pair Stories to trigger the Evolution Story.
3. Should I save to do 11 multi-scouts instead of single scouts?
You can now get x11 units instead of 10, so yes, but we strongly recommend you to save gems for Poké Fair or Master Fair banners (which has a higher rate for 5★ characters).
4. How many gems are required to receive a Sync Pair of my choice?
36.600 non-paid gems (or 36.300 gems + 100 paid gems for a daily single pull), which is the equivalent of 400 scout points. Scout points do not carry over between banners.
5. What does [X]/5, [Y]/20, etc mean?
When you obtain a Sync Pair, they're at 1/5 Sync Move level. Rolling a dupe of that Sync Pair, or using a Move Candy will increase it by 1 level. 3/5 is the minimum for most sync pairs to complete their full Sync Grid, but some PokĂŠ Fairs have grid expansions that require their Sync Move to be completely maxed out at 5/5 for their full Sync Grid.
At the same time, Sync Pairs are at 0/20 Potential when they're just obtained. Giving Sync Pairs Powerups will raise their Potential and stats. When a Sync Pair is given 20 powerups, their star level will be increased. Getting a unit to 5★ 20/20 is mandatory for it to further upgrade to 6★ EX (if it has one).
6. How do I Unlock The Level cap of my units?
Training Area (Cap Unlock Area), (Cap Unlock Area 2), Exchange in the shop, Events.
7. Where do I get the manuals to level up my sync pairs?
Training Area (Level up Area), Exchange in the shop, Events, random drops in Trainer Lodge.
8. How do I get Sync orbs?
Training Area (Sync orb Area), Exchange in the shop, Events, Champion Stadium Master Mode (6K & 7.5K), random drops in Trainer Lodge.
9. What are Theme Skill and how do I get items to power them up?
Theme Skill is a new ability that raises the stats of your Sync Pairs if any of them has a common position, type, region, trainer group, or other features with another pair (or pairs) in the same team. Skill Spheres, which can be obtained in Theme Skill area and Champion Stadium Master Mode, are required to upgrade them.
10. What Lucky Skill should I roll for [X]? How do I get Lucky Cookies and Scrolls to unlock a Sync Pair's Lucky Skill?
Refer to Sync Grid Builds & Lucky Skills (by u/MomoSpark) for more details.
In general, the choices of Lucky Skills follow the roles of Sync Pairs:
There are exceptions to some Sync Pairs. For example,
Lucky Cookies and Lucky Scrolls can all be obtained in Battle Villa (Single Player & Co-op), Blissful Bonanza, and Legendary Gauntlet. Legendary Gauntlet can provide unlimited 3★ Lucky Cookies as well as Deluxe Cookies exclusive to that mode after each successful stage clear, and their drop chance increases with longer win streaks.
11. What are the Sync Move effects of 6★ EX Sync Pairs of different roles? Who should I promote to 6★ EX first?
Each role gives different effects to Sync Moves when upgraded to 6★ EX.
Support is usually prioritized for promotion to 6★ EX because its EX effect effectively doubles the damage of all allied sync pairs after first sync and is more widely applicable across most game modes, and the increased stats from raising the support's Potential greatly enhances its bulk to tank stages.
For Strike, if its kit has a very high DPS (e.g. SS Red & Charizard, Diantha & Gardevoir, etc.), or includes a powerful Sync multiplier (e.g. Steven & Metagross's Haymaker, Barry & Empoleon's Inertia, etc.), you are highly recommended to upgrade it to 6★ EX to apply the damage to all opponents. This applies to Tech as well, but only if the unit is a Sync nuker (e.g. Marnie & Morpeko, May & Swampert, etc.).
Since Field applies a field effect that can boost its own damage and potentially that of its allies as well, upgrading it to 6★ EX is also recommended. Sprint enables faster sync buffs and usually come with innate Sync Move multipliers like Tech, but its EX effect does not improve damage as directly as the other roles.
Promoting Support-type units to 6★ EX is not a must, but it's always an added bonus, especially if their Sync Move can provide any additional effects via passive or grid skills.
Always remember to upgrade Rosa to 6★ EX because the materials are obtainable for free.
12. Which Sync Pair should I use my candy on?
Refer to Which Sync Pair Should You Give Your Candy To? (Infographic) (by u/MuddyDummy) for more details.
Always save your candies unless the Sync Pair is exclusive to Seasonals, PokĂŠ Fairs or Master Fairs. Most Sync Pairs are usable at 1/5. You can always "accidentally" pull the unit you've been looking for from the normal pool, but you never know when limited Sync Pairs will rerun again. This may not apply to Sync Pairs that are your favorite.

Common Technical Questions/Errors

Below lists all common technical errors you may encounter during the game, as well as how you can fix it. You are strongly encouraged to contact DeNA with any problems at [support@pokemonmasters-game.com](mailto:support@pokemonmasters-game.com) if any of these advice do not help.
  1. Error 20103 — Please check your connection and try again: Usually caused due to lack of connection or sudden disconnection. Try playing the game in a place with more stable connection.
  2. Error 10102 — An error has occurred. Restarting the game: This error is often triggered because it detects your phone is rooted, or that you are using external applications which allows opening multiple accounts on the same device. For rooted phone users, make sure you hide your rooted status.
  3. Game crashed mid-battle: Restart the app and clear your cache. This option is available in the bottom-left corner of the title screen.
  4. Does PokĂŠmon Masters work on emulators? No. As of now, PM is not compatible with any of the emulators (including Bluestacks, Nox, etc.) However, playing two accounts on the same device is possible on Android by cloning with Island.

2024.05.13 07:42 430beatle Can you get the Scarescraper E. Gadd Medal in Dark Moon solo?

Hello! I’ve recently gotten all 3 stars in Luigi’s mansion dark moon. I thought that meant I was done with the game, but then I learned there’s a third medal for scarescraper
I never touched the mode because I thought it was multiplayer only, but recently mode solo play is possible. What I wanted to ask was if you can catch all of the ghosts for the vault needed to get the other icon by only playing solo? Would love to play multiplayer but online 3ds isn’t a thing anymore+ no one around me has the game..

2024.05.12 23:55 PolarLeopard Jason Voorhees NRS-Era Armageddon Overview/Brutality Poll

Series of Origin:Friday the 13th
Paula Shaw playing Pamela Voorhees' ghost for intros?
Starting intro is the same as MKX with Jason Voorhees dragging in a woman's body with his machete lodged in her skull before yanking it out.
Opposing Intro is Jason Voorhees not moving with a decayed appearance before his heart starts beating and brings back his regular appearance slowly.
Outro is Jason Voorhees dropping his machete or axe or opening up his hand before grabbing a fence post lying nearby and stabbing it through the camera with a loud scream, static, and bloodspatter as he kills the cameraman.
X-Ray:The Horror kept with Jason dropping his axe to draw a machete from the ground in the Improvised Weapons Variation before retrieving it afterwards.
Slasher and Unstoppable kept. When you think of Jason Voorhees, the machete is one of the most iconic things about him so that's a clear lock-in for one of the two kept Variations and the fact that he never stays dead for long makes Unstoppable the second clear choice for me. Relentless just lacks anything that iconic to Jason for me but feel free to say which two Variations you would keep in the comments.
I plan on keeping a move from whichever Variation gets cut so Slasher's Psycho Slash would replace Choke, Relentless' Lake Mist would replace Tight Squeeze, and Unstoppable's Resurrection would replace Killing Machine in the standard Signature Moves.
Throw is the same as MKX for the backwards throw except for the Improvised Slaughter Variation which has Jason Voorhees throw the opponent to the ground, chop into their groin with his axe, and then hack into their neck before kicking them in the face to slide them away.
The forwards throw has Jason Voorhees stab the opponent's chest with his machete before dragging it out and smacking them away from him with the blunt side in the Slasher Variation, grab both of their arms and pull as a loud tearing sound echoes before punching them in the chest to send them flying in the Relentless or Unstoppable Variations, and hacking into the opponent's side with his axe before yanking it out and throwing a dart in their eye to make them stagger back in the Improvised Slaughter Variation.
Gear-
Masks including the Battleworn Mask from Freddy vs. Jason, Blackgold Mask from Mortal Kombat X, Cracked Mask from The New Blood, and Classic Mask from Jason Lives.
Taunts-
Jason Voorhees leans his body forward to stare at the opponent before tilting to his head to the left and then the right before going back into his fighting position.
Jason Voorhees quickly looks at the downed opponent before walking away and turns back around to face them.
Jason Voorhees stares at his machete, clenched fist, or axe while Pamela's ghost says "Punish them, Jason." or "They deserve death."
Jason Voorhees walks backwards into mist before reappearing with a man's head (Chad from the F13 game?) that he shows off before tossing it to the side
. Signature Moves-
Killing Machine:Same as MKX except takes one bar of meter to use but now has Jason Voorhees not fall asleep afterwards. There is a cooldown between uses however.
Temple Punch:Same as MKX.
Choke:Same as MKX.
Back Breaker:Same as MKX.
Tight Squeeze:Same as MKX.
Slasher Variation:Jason Voorhees' iconic appearance from Freddy vs. Jason with him bringing his iconic machete into battle.
Signature Moves-
Bloodshed:Same as MKX and still replaces Choke.
Machete Toss:Same as MKX.
Shoulder Push:Same as MKX and still replaces Temple Punch.
Psycho Slash:Same as MKX.
Relentless Variation:Jason's previous appearance from MKX with no weapons but his bare hands.
Signature Moves-
Lake Mist:Same as MKX.
Pursuit:Same as MKX except takes one bar of meter to use and has no enhanced version but attacking Jason Voorhees does not end the effect prematurely anymore.
Damned:Same as MKX.
Unstoppable Variation:Jason Voorhees' decaying appearance from The New Blood with a chain around his neck and only his bare hands as his weapons.
Signature Moves-
Punishment:Same as MKX except takes one bar of meter to use and has no enhanced version.
Rise:Same as MKX and still replaces Killing Machine except takes one bar of meter to use and has no enhanced version but keeps the super meter recharge effect.
Resurrection:Same as MKX.
Improvised Slaughter Variation:Jason Voorhees' undead appearance from Jason Lives with him bringing a single-bladed axe as his weapon.
Signature Moves-
Tree-Trimming:Jason Voorhees pulls out a tree-trimmer and swings it at the opponent, cutting open their torso for a moment before throwing it away. The enhanced version is called Dr. Crews is Calling and adds Jason grabbing the opponent to throw their face into the saw blade for a few moments before tossing his weapon away for enhanced damage.
Harpooned:Jason Voorhees pulls out a spear gun and fires it straight across the screen, impaling the opponent's chest if it connects. The enhanced version is called Eye-Scream and has Jason track the opponent before firing a spear at their eye for increased damage.
No Sex:Jason Voorhees charges forwards to slam his axe in the opponent's chest and throws them behind him with the blade still lodged in them, pulling on the handle until he wrenches his axe past their groin and free. The enhanced version is called No Drugs and adds Jason slamming his axe into the opponent's head after pulling it out their groin for enhanced damage and gives him a hit of armor. This move replaces Back Breaker.
Fatalities-
Kill for Mother kept.
Anything is a Weapon:Jason Voorhees picks the opponent up by the throat and starts choking them, making them spurt up blood from their mouth, before dropping them on the ground with them laying on their back as he walks away. A loud mechanical sound is heard and the opponent looks to their right to see Jason with a tree trimmer that he lowers and starts shredding up their torso with, making their intestines fly out.
Voorhees finally drops the tree trimmer and pulls out his axe, raising the blade high in the air with both hands and slamming it down on the opponent's head, splitting it in two, before stepping back to let the camera focus on the bloody mess he made.
Babality:Early Friday
Jason Voorhees transforms back into his human form but is now a baby and either tries to grab his machete or axe that is now lodged in the ground and tries to free it before falling on his back or clenches his fist and tries to throw a punch at the opponent that makes him land on his face before Pamela's ghost consoles him.
Friendship:Camp Trip
Jason Voorhees turns to leave and walks off as the screen switches to a Camp Crystal Lake sign as he drops his machete or axe if he has it in the dirt of the beach before putting on a life preserver and goes right into the water, paddling around on his belly and doing backstrokes while the Friendship balloons appear.
Brutalities-
The Klassic:Jason Voorhees performs an uppercut with his machete in his Slasher Variation but cleaves the opponent's face in two down the middle, leaving only a small part of their head still in one piece. In his Relentless and Unstoppable Variations, Jason performs an uppercut that knocks the opponent's skull out with the spine attached and sends it flying into the air as their body collapses into a kneeling position, the head crashing back down to the ground to burst into chunks a few seconds later.
The Improvised Slaughter Variation is the same as the Slasher Variation's version of the Klassic but performed with an axe uppercut instead.
Blunt Trauma:Same as MKX.
Go to Hell:Same as MKX but Jason Voorhees picks the opponent's head up with his free hand after decapitating them and holds it on his Brutality pose, dropping his axe to do so in the Improvised Slaughter Variation.
Blood Bath:Same as MKX. Only available in Slasher Variation.
Head Spin:Same as MKX. Only available in Relentless Variation.
Spinal Tap:Same as MKX. Only available in Unstoppable Variation.
Spearfishing:Jason Voorhees performs his Eye-Scream move but the spear completely punches through the back of the opponent's skull and gets lodged in their head as they futiley grab it to try to pull it out before collapsing to their knees and dying. Only available in Improvised Weapons Variation.
Brutality Poses and Quotes-
Jason Voorhees turns his head to face the camera while the "Ki ki, ma ma" theme plays before turning his whole body to continue facing the camera.
Jason Voorhees stares at the opponent's body as Pamela's ghost hugs him while saying "You've made mommy proud." or "Good boy, Jason."
Jason Voorhees stabs his machete or hacks his axe into the opponent's torso before putting his boot on the corpse to pull it out, satisfied that they're dead.

2024.05.12 23:40 Petragor07 The 13th Predator (Skaven crossover) - Part 8

Memory transcription subject: Captain Kalsim, Krakotl Alliance Command
Date: [REDACTED]
The approach to the Skaven homeworld had been nerve-wracking. None of us had expected the discovery of a new sapient Predator species, let alone one cunning enough to get so close before indulging their hunger.
The Skaven’s cruel deception had been on full display as we passed through Venlil Prime. The surface was a ghost town of ransacked buildings, blood-stained plazas and hastily erected idols devoted to their heathen god. We bombarded the surface thoroughly, even going so far as to eradicate the uninhabitable land beyond the equator to make certain that no predatory taint would survive.
Despite the ease of the cleansing, it only left the fleet tense. The brutality on display there was on par with that of the Arxur, and they had achieved this with only primitive weapons and spacecraft. Speaking of, there were no ships to be found in orbit of the conquered planet, neither Skaven or Venlil, which logically meant that the cornered predators had added the more advanced ships to their army, and were consolidating their forces at their homeworld in a desperate bid to hold us off. Such behavior was not unfamiliar to the experienced exterminators under my command, but it was a worrying one. After all, a Predator is at its most dangerous when it’s protecting its nest.
As we finally arrived at their system, we were nonetheless shocked at the sight of their fleet, as the composition of ships was quite unlike anything we had seen before. The addition of Federation freighters commandeered from Venlil Prime were of course expected, as were their desecration, with numerous primitively drawn symbols tainting their hulls. The Skaven ships however, were barely able to be called as such. As far as our sensors could tell, each was merely composed of a single thruster welded to one of their primitive crystal weapons, with a tiny dome on the top serving as a cockpit. The tiny things had nothing in the way of armor or other defenses, displaying a callous disregard for the lives of the pilots. They were clearly made to be mass produced, and mass produced they were, obscuring the view of the planet behind them like a swarm of tiny insects. The only thing they had that even resembled a Capital Ship was a large vessel at the rear of their formation. It had armor aplenty, pieced together from alloys which were recognizable as fragments from the orbital installations missing at Venlil Prime. Multiple federation defense turrets were installed across the hull, modified with their strange green crystals. The only component which hadn’t been stolen from the federation was by far the strangest, a massive Bell installed above the bridge, displayed for all to see.
I had been briefed on Skaven zealotry, but to install such a large icon on their largest ship when they were clearly short on materials seemed wasteful to the extreme. Though, what else could one expect from creatures whose very survival hinged on reckless destruction? As we approached, the sensors showed some of the tiny pests scrambling below the useless hunk of metal, hanging on the ship's exterior in their primitive spacesuits as they struggled to pull the rope attached to the clapper of the bell. Their efforts were fruitless, as despite the metal component striking the side of the instrument it would never-
GONG
A ripple of confusion spread through the bridge, the crew turning their heads every which way in an attempt to locate the source of the noise. The only one who was looking directly at it was me, though I had a hard time believing it. Somehow, in spite of the laws of physics, the sound of the bell ringing had traveled through space, allowing it to be heard on our bridge and, according to the incoming communications from the rest of the fleet, the bridges of our other ships too. Confused, our formation slowed down, as multiple squad commanders requested orders I wasn’t yet in a state of mind to give.
GONG
My suspicions were confirmed as the second striking of the bell coincided with a second ring sweeping across the bridge. With it came a strange sense of foreboding, as some irrational part of me began to fear that something terrible would happen if the predators were permitted to continue ringing the bell. As illogical as the feeling was, it did allow me to regain my wits and speak into the radio. “All battlegroups continue advance, prepare to open fire. Priority target is the enemy flagship.”
GONG
The Flagship remained at the rear of the enemy formation as the rest of the Skaven ships advanced. The fragile fighters died in droves as they moved into firing range. Most were cut down by our weapons, their weak hulls offering so little protection that even our point defense turrets were able to shoot them down. Some of them exploded in violent flashes of green upon being fired upon, often destroying several other craft near them in a deadly chain reaction. The most bizarre casualties however, were self-inflicted, as a few of the tiny craft opened fire upon one another, seemingly unprovoked. It only served as further proof of the importance of their extermination.
GONG
Another ring heralded the survivors making it close enough to return fire, green lightning lancing through the void at our vessels. Flying straight through our formation, a chaotic firefight ensued.
GONG
The fleet’s discipline was tested by the proximity of the predators, and wasn’t found wanting as the fleet held position and fought. The lethality of our barrages had quickly lessened however, as many firing solutions had to be abandoned due to the risk of hitting friendlies, a consideration the Skaven didn’t seem to share as the branching lines of energy torched several of their own.
GONG
Their predatory callousness had paid off however, as the fleet was beginning to take casualties in return. Their weapons raked across our hulls, struggling to get through armor, but causing devastating explosions when they found a weak spot. In the confusion, it was difficult to tell if we were winning.
GONG
The captured Venlil freighters made it into the thick of battle, largely ignored due to the more immediate threat of the fighters. With no weapons, they simply rushed at the largest ships they could reach, ramming into the side. Hull damage suffered in these attacks was minimal, but the ships quickly began to report predators boarding their ship, drowning the defenders in a tide of bullets and bodies. I ordered the affected crews to hunker down, and prepare to scuttle the ship if the enemy could not be repelled.
GONG
A Skaven fighter broke through the defensive ring around our ship, making a dangerously close attack run to tear a rent through the entire length of our hull. It flew close enough that I could see the predator inside looking straight at us with a vicious grin, before the inattentive pilot crashed directly into one of the vessels behind us, destroying both ships in a bright flash.
GONG
The ringing was getting worse, more intense. This latest one could be felt as well as heard, the bridge shaking from the sheer power of the noise. I groaned in pain, my head aching more and more each time the clamor returned. Enough was enough.
“First squad!” I ordered. “Form up, we’re breaking through and taking down that damn flagship.”
GONG
My orders were followed as we pushed forward, cutting a path through the chaos. The Skaven realized what we were doing and began to focus fire on us, but the casualties we had inflicted could finally be felt, as they were too few to intercept us, and we achieved a clear line of sight to their mothership.
GONG
My first officer Jala clicked her beak in delight as her screen lit up with a picture of the flagship. “We have a firing solution for the railgun! Targeting center mass!”
“No!” I interjected. “The Bell! Destroy that accursed bell!”
GONG
The Skaven managed one last ring before Jala aimed at their foul icon and fired, relief flooding into my heart as I witnessed its imminent destruction. However, as the railgun round struck the side of the bell, I realized my mistake.
GONG
Jala’s shot had shattered the bell, but in doing so, had rang it one final time. This final ring was awful indeed, incapacitating the entire bridge crew for several seconds. As I regained my senses, my sense of foreboding began to evaporate. Whatever that strange thing had been, it was destroyed now. Only the cleansing of their world remained.
I looked past the damaged flagship towards the Predator homeworld and found… that I couldn’t see it. A strange green gash in space was stretching out behind the broken bell, green lightning arcing at the edges. I could only stare in terrified awe as the expanse of green grew wide enough to cover the entire viewport, and begin to show a bizarre warped landscape within.
Then, all hell broke loose.
The lightning emitted from the anomaly suddenly gained direction, targeting and decimating our ships seemingly at random. Chittering laughter could be heard among the static on every radio frequency, as vessels reported more predators on their vessels, appearing out of nowhere. As I stared into the abyss, I could just about make out a tall, furred being with long gnarled horns looking over the battlefield. And as its gaze briefly met my own, I had no doubt in my soul that I had just made eye contact with the Skaven God.
With all the will I could muster, I tore my eye away and yelled Jala. "Jala! That thing is responsible for this! Can you get a firing solution?!”
She turned to me and opened her beak. What emerged wasn’t her usual joyous request to open fire, but a torrent of vermin pouring out onto the bridge. The flood did not stop, continuing far beyond what should have been able to fit in her mouth or even her body, and the bridge crew was quickly drowning under them.
Frozen on my perch, I saw the anomaly begin to close as the fleet suffered, and I caught a final glimpse of the figure’s face, as it stared at our suffering with delighted malice.

Games With The Most Impressive Graphics (long read)
As video games have continued to grow and evolve as both entertainment and art, the games just keep looking better and better. If someone is playing on a high-end PC or the average console, it's hard not to notice when a game stands out a bit more than the rest.
Whether it is the highest fidelity graphics or just a gorgeous art style (or both), games that look good usually also play well. If that much time gets spent in the graphics department they must have something good elsewhere. Here are the games with the best graphics out there.
Updated on May 12, 2024 by Mark Sammut: Two recently-released games deserve to be spotlighted. One is the latest entry in a long-running JRPG franchise, while the other is a new IP from a Korean studio.
Note:
A few criteria/things to keep in mind:
This article focuses on modern releases and a few post-2000s projects rather than classics from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis, and PS1 eras. As important and industry-pushing as the latter were, visually they are too different from modern releases to compare them.
The games are only loosely ranked since graphical styles vary so much from project to project, and personal preference plays a part.
A 2016 game might be ranked higher than a 2024 one because the former was more impressive when it debuted, even if the latter technically looks better.
1)Lords Of The Fallen Unreal Engine 5 Is Here
Epic's Unreal Engine 5 was introduced in 2020, instantly garnering hype for what it could mean for the industry's future. In 2023, a few notable games that utilize the engine were finally released, presenting early examples of its potential. Remnant 2 and Immortals of Aveum are both visually impressive, and the same could be said for ARK: Survival Ascended.
However, at the moment, Lords of the Fallen is probably the most gorgeous UE5 game, although that could change once titles like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 are released. While not without its issues, the Soulslike game's graphics are certainly not among them. Axiom is a vast and stunning hellscape, one that has quite a bit of variety. The game's lighting and animations are consistently top-notch too.
2)Bright Memory: Infinite A One-Person Team
Games and their visuals cannot be analyzed in a vacuum. Context and expectations shape somebody's reaction to an experience, and that is certainly the case with Bright Memory: Infinite. Developed by a single developer, Zeng Xiancheng, this first-person shooter originally debuted in 2020 as Bright Memory, a concept that was expanded for a full release in July 2022. While the overall game has plenty of issues, its graphics are undeniably impressive, comparing favorably with higher-budget titles.
There are plenty of gorgeous indie titles, but the vast majority succeed because they do not try to emulate AAA projects. They strive to do their own thing. Bright Memory: Infinite does the exact opposite, and the game proves that it can be done well.
3)Hi-Fi Rush Burst Of Colour
Announced and released out of nowhere, Hi-Fi Rush was perhaps 2023's greatest surprise. Tango Gameworks' action game blends hack and slash combat with rhythm-based mechanics, rewarding players for adhering to the beat. Set in a corporate city run by Vandelay Technologies, the title brings to life a vibrant and bustling metropolis filled with unique buildings and NPCs.
As the campaign is linear, Hi-Fi Rush focuses on creating cool environments and backdrops, two things the game absolutely nails. Quite a few stages are predominantly set within samey corridors and indoor areas, but whenever the action heads outside, Hi-Fi Rush really comes alive.
4)Okami HD An Animated Painting
There aren't many games that have been able to graphically stand the test of time as well as Okami has. Originally released in 2006 on consoles like the PlayStation 2 and Wii, Okami was able to take advantage of its timeless style to make the most out of the hardware it was on.
However, playing Okami on those consoles today shows just how much the original systems were holding it back, which is where the HD version comes in. On the PS4 and Switch, Okami's classical Japanese art style looks absolutely stunning in just about every area of the game.
5)Heavenly Sword Motion Capture Showcase
Most of Ninja Theory's bigger games boast stellar visuals and character designs, however, Heavenly Sword gets the nod because it was the studio's first proper graphical showcase. More impressively, the early PS3 game still looks beautiful today, an achievement that should be largely credited to the project's use of motion capture technology.
The cut-scenes steal the show and could easily pass for a mid-budget animated flick, with Andy Serkis' performance as King Bohan ranking among the best in any era of gaming. During gameplay, Heavenly Sword is also a treat for the eyes and senses, particularly in its lavish environments.
6)Killzone: Mercenary Console Quality On A Handheld System
Regardless of their quality, all the Killzone games are graphical showcases. Despite being a launch title, 2013's Shadow Fall is still among the most visually impressive games on the PS4. As stunning as Guerrilla's mainline entries are, Killzone: Mercenary deserves a special mention due to its hardware.
The PS Vita was and still is a reasonably powerful handheld device, one that could replicate home console visuals to a certain extent. No other title highlighted the console's graphical potential better than Killzone: Mercenary, an FPS that would not have looked out of place on the PS3 or even as a budget PS4 project. The fact it is also a decent game does not hurt either.
7)Super Mario Odyssey It Is Not Always About Realism Or Processing Power
While combining "Nintendo Switch game" with "best graphics" might seem weird, it's hard to argue that Super Mario Odyssey doesn't make the most of the console's limited processing power. With a combination of stylized art and impressive HD, Mario explores several gorgeous landscapes that might inspire players to sit back and think about how far things have come.
Nintendo has always used fantastical art styles to produce charming and timeless games that don't break the bank on processing. Mario has never looked this good, and sequences like the New Donk City music festival allow the game to shine.
8)Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League For All Its Faults, The Graphics Are Not One Of Them
All of Rocksteady's games push the envelope in terms of visuals, and 2015's Arkham Knight still boasts the most impressive rendition of Gotham in gaming. Its visuals have aged magnificently, and the gameplay is fantastic, even if the overall project is not quite on the same level as Arkham Asylum or Arkham City. After an 8-year wait, Rocksteady made its comeback with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League; unfortunately, the Arkhamverse spin-off garnered a very mixed reception. Focusing on looter shooter action in an attempt to be a live-service experience, Suicide Squad is a fairly confused project that does not seem to play to Rocksteady's strengths.
While many elements warrant criticism, and it can be tempting to dismiss the entire project, the game is not without positives. If nothing else, the graphics are generally top-notch, particularly when it comes to the cutscenes and character designs. When the action gets going, the screen can get rather muddled, but it is not devoid of visual flare either. For all its faults, Suicide Squad certainly looks like a proper AAA project.
9)Halo: Reach A Series That Always Pushed Console Graphics To Their Limits
In truth, Reach could be regarded as a stand-in for Halo in general as Microsoft's franchise is consistently pushing console visuals to their limits. In terms of art style, Halo 4 certainly has its fans; when it comes to graphical prowess, Halo 5 and Infinite are unsurprisingly a step above their predecessors. However, Halo: Reach perfected the series' iconic aesthetic of Bungie's era, ensuring the latter's time with the license ended on a high note.
Nowadays, Reach looks its best in The Master Chief Collection, which enhances the visuals in a few subtle but notable ways. That said, the Xbox 360 version holds up well after all these years.
10)Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot At Times, Looks (Much) Better Than The Anime
It wasn't until fairly recently that video games hit the graphical fidelity necessary to be able to fully translate animated shows and films into live gameplay, with recent Dragon Ball games being the most shining examples. 2018's Dragon Ball FighterZ was able to take a page out of Guilty Gear's book to make a stunning 2.5D experience, but gorgeous, fully 3D anime games were still a rarity.
Until Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released, that is. Taking the Toriyama characters and landscapes that fans know and love, Kakarot turns them into stunning 3D models with some of the most impressive animations and visual effects around.
11)Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Detailed & Beautiful
Lego projects might not be as graphically intensive as games with realistic visuals, but they have a unique and clean aesthetic that generally complements their gameplay and tone. Although the franchise's IP adaptations are consistently pleasing to the eyes, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga exists on a whole other level. Covering all the main episodes in the sci-fi film series, the game beautifully recreates some of the most iconic locations in Star Wars, creating worlds that are expansive and detailed.
Undoubtedly the most ambitious Lego title, The Skywalker Saga is the full package, and Traveller's Tales' hard work is evident throughout the experience. While very much designed with younger players in mind, die-hard fans are likely to have a blast regardless of their age; in fact, people who are just searching for an action-adventure romp should check this release out.
12)Golden Sun A Gorgeous World To Take On The Go
In terms of raw power, the Game Boy Advance has nothing on the Nintendo DS, let alone something like the Switch; however, that does not mean the classic console's library is devoid of gorgeous games. Golden Sun is a turn-based JRPG set in Weyard, a fantasy world that is refreshingly diverse in terms of environments.
Largely experienced from a top-down perspective, Golden Sun looks like most other old-school JRPGs found on the GBA or SNES, just with its graphics maximized to their full potential. Camelot instilled every town and dungeon with color and personality, while battles come to life with a flurry of effects that are dazzling to behold.
13)South Park: The Fractured But Whole Looks Exactly Like The Show
When adapting an established property to a different medium, concessions usually need to be made. However, exceptions do exist, and South Park: The Fractured but Whole managed to perfectly replicate the show's aesthetic. The RPG looks and sounds exactly like Trey Parker and Matt Stone's legendary animated series, permitting fans to immerse themselves in this world like never before.
Even removed from that context, The Fractured but Whole's visuals are detailed, expressive, and clean. Authenticity did not come at the cost of quality.
14)Shadow Of The Colossus (2018) Majesty In Gaming Form
For the most part, this article focuses on modern games rather than titles that were graphical showcases when they debuted. Shadow of the Colossus both follows this rule and is also an exception; while the PS2 version looks dated, the visuals still retain that same sense of wonder and scale that they had when the game originally came out in 2005.
Bluepoint Games' 2018 remake gives Team Ico's classic a modern makeover, and traversing the Forbidden Land in search of majestic colossi remains as haunting of an experience as it was in the PS2 era.
15)Stellar Blade More Than Just Eve
In the lead-up to its release, Stellar Blade's marketing heavily advertised Eve, its AI protagonist, and her wardrobe. Attractive characters being used to sell projects is nothing new, but their heavy promotion usually suggests a lack of trust in the rest of the game's quality.
Surprisingly, Stellar Blade proved to be way more than just its main character. Shift Up created an exciting action game with Soulslike combat (along with hack and slash influence) that also features surprisingly expansive zones that allow for exploration, side quests, and environmental storytelling. Considering it was created by a smallish studio compared to other PS5 first-party titles, Stellar Blade compares favorably to most of Sony's heavyweights, and it is among the best-looking Unreal Engine 4 games of all time. In fact, it could be confused for Unreal Engine 5.
16)Persona 5 Royal Oozes Style
As hundreds of games use an anime aesthetic, they start to blend together if they do not inject enough personality into their presentations. Persona 5 Royal does not have this issue. Everything about the game screams "stylish," and that holds true for the social sim and dungeon crawling sections of the campaign. The latter take place in diverse Palaces that are generally vibrant, lively, and gorgeous.
The visuals also do a lot of heavy lifting during battles, elevating what is a rather unspectacular turn-based combat system. Outside of Palaces, P5R unleashes players on a small but dense variant of Tokyo, one brimming with tiny details that enhance the experience.
Note:
Persona 3 Reload is quite a looker as well, although its single-dungeon setup restricts variety when compared to Persona 5 Royal 's Palaces.
17)The Last Of Us 2 Gritty Realism & Tremendous Performances
Naughty Dog's games are always on the cutting edge graphically. 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has barely aged a day since its release, and 2013's The Last of Us was a contender for the most visually impressive game of the seventh generation. Therefore, unsurprisingly, the studio's latest offering, The Last of Us 2, is a powerhouse in the graphics department.
This action-adventure game features realistic visuals and grounded performances courtesy of Naughty Dog using performance capture. Whether players are viewing a rare quiet moment or crawling in the mud to avoid a Clicker, The Last of Us 2 looks incredible. The 2024 remaster enhances the base version even further.
18)Gears 5 Weather Effects & Environments
The newly titled Gears 5 takes a series that has always looked good and elevates it to the next level. The game's campaign takes place across a wide variety of environments, from a jungle early on to a snowy tundra and red desert landscape.
The snowy tundra and red desert are also the locations for the game's more open exploration sections, giving a chance to explore and take in all the scenery. Gears 5's cutscenes are also gorgeous and the high fidelity extends into all the game's other modes.
19)Assassin's Creed Odyssey Packed With Stunning Vistas
Assassin's Creed Odyssey earns its subtitle over the 60-plus hours it takes to mainline the story; in the meantime, players get to appreciate and take in the beauty of Ancient Greece. While the environments don't vary a ton from Assassin's Creed Origins, the extra trees and seas make for some spectacular views.
With the viewpoints, Odyssey never hesitates to point out just how magnificent it looks. Most of the main characters and side characters also look great, which is impressive based on the quantity.
20)Hades Personality & Vibrancy
Supergiant Games has put together some of the greatest indie releases of all time, and the studio's crowning achievement is Hades. The roguelike follows Zagreus' repeated attempts to make the journey from the Underworld to Mount Olympus, a task that proves to be anything but simple for Hades' son.
Hades' visuals are vibrant, thematically consistent, and lively. The game's environments and characters are soaked in mythology and personality, while the particle effects are fantastic and impactful. The only negative is that sometimes there is a bit too much happening on screen.
Note:
Hades 2 arguably looks better than its predecessor, but it is still a work in progress at the moment.
21)Cuphead Perfectly Mimics Classic Cartoons
A unique and eye-catching art style is often more important than sheer graphical prowess, and Cuphead might be the best demonstration of this point. Inspired by cartoons of old, Studio MDHR created a game that uses stunning and dynamic hand-drawn animation to bring to life a colorful world and the beings that exist within it.
Even though they do not get much in the way of backstory, Cuphead utilizes its presentation to get across the personalities of each boss. The art style is also consistent throughout the campaign, allowing for a coherent experience despite most of the characters boasting designs that share very little in common.
22)Horizon Forbidden West Scale & Quality
Guerrilla Games somehow managed to outdo Horizon Zero Dawn with its sequel, despite the latter still coming out on the PS4 alongside the console's successor. Horizon Forbidden West finds Aloy exploring a new area of this setting, one specifically inspired by states and cities like California and San Francisco. The result is a gorgeous and vast world packed with lush natural environments that are home to intricate mechanical beasts.
Like most open-world games, Horizon Forbidden West does not always look absolutely fantastic, but its high points are so impressive that they make the more forgettable moments forgivable. While still a beautiful game on the PS4, this 2022 release is, unsurprisingly, at its best on the PS5.
23)Ori And The Will Of The Wisps Great Use Of Color & Light
Moon Studios' Ori games are some of the best modern Metroidvanias, and they knock it out of the park in nearly every area. They tell emotional storylines that succeed in fostering not only a connection between the audience and the silent eponymous character but also the world they live in. Gameplay-wise, both games have precise and challenging platforming, while Will of the Wisps also introduces combat to the mix. Although a touch polarizing, the latter nevertheless adds an extra dimension to the overall package.
Last but not least, Ori and its sequel are both visually enchanting. The games' use of color might be among the best in the entire industry, and each environment is a work of art. In the world of side-scrollers, not many projects compare favorably to Ori and the Will of the Wisps in any department, including graphics.
24)Demon's Souls (2020) A Beautiful Hell
As mesmerizing as Elden Ring's visuals can be at times, the game's open-world design means they are spread a bit thin; conversely, 2020's Demon's Souls remake consists of almost nothing but stunning areas. Rife with deadly creatures, haunting architecture, and intimidating landscapes, Boletaria is a gorgeous nightmare of a kingdom that is equally likely to leave players in awe or fear.
As a launch title for the PS5, Demon's Souls served as something of a tech demo for the hardware, showing what the next-gen console could accomplish. This is a game that could not exist on the PS4, and even more than 18 months into the PS5's life, Demon's Souls still has some of the best graphics on the system.
25)Ghost Of Tsushima Immersive Open-World
Gazing across Ghost of Tsushima's rendition of the Japanese archipelago is quite the sight to behold, as this highly anticipated title has some breathtaking scenery. Tsushima's main graphical focus is on its world, which ends up feeling just as alive as the characters that inhabit it.
The way cherry blossom petals flow in the highly stylized wind, how the sunset illuminates the beautiful countryside, and the many vibrant colors that contrast the violent gameplay make for one beautiful game.
26)Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Pixar Quality
Similar to 2016's Ratchet & Clank, Rift Apart's animation is on a whole other level. The franchise's most recent entries tend to be compared to Pixar's movies, which is about as high of praise as any game can receive. Utilizing the full power of the PS5, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart matches top-tier cutscenes with gameplay sections that are packed with detail, moving parts, and depth.
Insomniac created lavish and dense worlds that all have unique flavors that make them exciting to explore. When the action gets going and Ratchet or Rivet scoop up bolts, Rift Apart is as smooth as butter.
Note:
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is also visually stunning and represents Insomniac at its best. Rift Apart merits the nod due to being among the first PS5 projects to showcase the console's graphical potential, but Spider-Man 2 is as good-looking of an open-world game as they come.
27)Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch Ghibli Quality
Except for Square Enix, Level-5 is arguably the most consistent JRPG developer in terms of visuals. Yo-kai Watch, Dragon Quest 8, and Dark Cloud 2 are all gorgeous, and the latter's art styles are timeless. Level-5's graphical masterpiece is undoubtedly 2013's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, although the developer got some help as the game's cutscenes were handled by Studio Ghibli.
The anime studio is well-known for its lavish cinematic productions, and Wrath of the White Witch replicates Ghibli's iconic style splendidly. Even if the cutscenes were ignored, Ni no Kuni would still rank among the PS3's most beautiful games.
28)Resident Evil 2 (2019) – Represents All Modern Resident Evil Games A Remake Done Right
Years of remasters and rereleases have cemented the idea that old games can look better than they did, but not as good as modern ones. Capcom rebuilding Resident Evil 2 from the ground up makes it a modern video game, a fantastic one at that. Leon and Claire have never looked this good and neither have the zombies and monsters terrorizing Raccoon City.
The police station and underground lab look nearly life-like and every scare in the game is extra terrifying with how detailed the monsters are. Even Tyrant looks awesome, in his own terrifying way.
Note:
Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 also look fantastic, but RE2 received the nod as it was the first of Capcom's stint of recent remakes. Resident Evil Village is also stunning.
29)Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) The World At The Player's Fingertips
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a jaw-dropping achievement. The flight sim grants players access to the world, allowing them to plan and take trips to Earth's highest mountains, hottest deserts, and greatest metropolises. The game's scope is impressive, and this ambition is more than matched by its technical prowess.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is arguably the most realistic game of all time, with both the planes and locations authentically mirroring their real-life counterparts to the smallest detail.
30)God Of War (2018) & Ragnarok (2022) A New Era, A New Look
Nothing against the previous installments of God of War, which are all technical showcases in their own right, but the soft reboot of the 2018 sequel and its successor are not only different but also more gorgeous. Exploring the Norse lands to soak up this universe's mythology is spectacular for a number of reasons, including the fact that everything looks great.
God of War captures Kratos and Atreus in a way that gives depth to the former not experienced in previous installments. Unsurprisingly, God of War: Ragnarok maintains the high quality set by its predecessor. Graphically, the sequel does not offer a huge leap forward, but that is a testament to God of War's beauty rather than a criticism of Ragnarok.
31)The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Pushes The Switch To Its Absolute Limit
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom boast vibrant art styles that bring Hyrule to life like never before. However, if someone were to focus on the minute details, they might notice reused or flat textures along with large stretches of empty real estate containing nothing but maybe two enemies and a couple of apples. Compared to some other open-world projects, Nintendo's releases might not be that impressive; however, considering the Switch's underpowered hardware, both games are technical marvels.
Tears of the Kingdom gets the nod as it has more content than Breath of the Wild thanks to the implementation of Sky Islands and the Depths. Pushing the Switch to its absolute limit, the sequel delivers one of the most complete and expansive open-world adventures of all time.
32)The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt A Dark Fantasy Masterpiece In Nearly Every Way
Known for being one of the greatest games ever made, CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 is phenomenal for numerous reasons. Not all the monsters or gruff characters are a joy to look at because they aren't meant to be, but the sprawling landscapes are constantly killer.
While the console versions look great (not including the Switch port, which is nonetheless impressive in its own right), The Witcher 3 on PC can hit graphical levels that are almost beyond understanding. The game is worth playing for a ton of reasons besides graphics, but looking good is always a plus. The bathtub scene is worth the price of entry alone.
On the right system, Cyberpunk 2077 is also one of the best-looking games ever .
33)A Plague Tale: Requiem A Proper Current-Gen Experience
As the ninth console generation picks up steam, more games will debut that raise the bar for graphics, at least on Sony and Microsoft's hardware. A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the first games to truly come across as a current-gen experience, an achievement aided by Asobo Studio's decision to not produce PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Boasting brilliant facial animations and photo-realistic visuals, Requiem is awe-inspiring on a technical level. While 2019's Innocence is also a pretty game, Requiem far exceeds its predecessor in this department, particularly when it comes to the presentation of the rats.
34)Forza Horizon 5 Mexico At The Player's Fingertips
As long as Forza games continue to be made they will continue to be the best-looking games on the market. Forza Horizon 5 isn't just one of the greatest racing games of the last few years, but one of the most gorgeous titles to ever be released for Xbox.
While Forza Horizon 4's British setting resulted in slightly homogenous environments, the sequel's Mexico map is far more diverse, offering 11 biomes that showcase different aspects of the country. While the game looks good on the Xbox One, Forza Horizon 5 is unbelievably gorgeous on PC and the Xbox Series X.
35)Alan Wake 2 Cinematic Quality
Alan Wake 2 was a long time coming, and the sequel managed to live up to some rather lofty expectations while catering to both returning fans and new players. Split across two campaigns, the story follows Saga as she investigates a murder case that leads her to an unsettling American town with a peculiar populace. In the meantime, Alan finds himself trying to escape the Dark Place, a haunting realm that twists reality into something menacing but familiar.
Although complementary, the two storylines still feel different from each other, and that extends to their detailed and realistic locations. Alan Wake 2 is a technical work of art built using Remedy's own Northlight Engine, which is also responsible for the equally impressive Control and Quantum Break.
36)Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ambitious, Epic, & Gorgeous
Generally, most JRPG franchises tend to trail behind other AAA properties in terms of graphics; however, the one constant exception is Final Fantasy. In most generations, Square Enix produces one or two games that push consoles to their limits – Final Fantasy 6 for the SNES, Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for the PS1, Final Fantasy 12 for the PS2, Final Fantasy 13 for the PS3, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the PS4. On the PS5, Final Fantasy 16 and Rebirth are both visually stunning, but the latter gets the nod due to its open-world nature, making for a more impressive final product.
Set after Cloud and company leave Midgar, Rebirth emphasizes this story's world-spanning nature and scale in a way that could not be done with the 1997 original. Even if the open-world filler content might not be to everyone's tastes, the game is consistently gorgeous, and each region of the map has a unique identity that keeps things interesting. The character and enemy models are unsurprisingly flawless, and they are accompanied by high-quality visual effects that are regularly showcased during the fast-paced combat.
37)Half-Life: Alyx The Future Of Gaming?
After more than a decade, Valve finally returned to the Half-Life franchise, albeit with a prequel/sequel rather than a proper third entry. Also, Half-Life: Alyx is a VR game, presumably designed to get people interested in Valve's Index headset. Dropping players in City 17, Alyx not only serves as a showcase of VR technology but is also a proper, substantial addition to the beloved series.
Half-Life: Alyx arguably features the most detailed world in gaming history, and, thanks to virtual reality, one of the most immersive. Although most of the game takes place in underground areas filled with brilliantly designed environments and enemies, Half-Life: Alyx's presentation goes up another level whenever the story heads to the surface.
38)Red Dead Redemption 2 An Era Captured Fully
Red Dead Redemption 2 is arguably the game with the best graphics of all time, although Rockstar's GTA 5 and L.A. Noire would not be bad shouts either. RDR2 is practically a movie due to how detailed and impressive all the NPCs and landscapes look on both consoles and PC.
Not only does every single frame of this adventure look photo-realistic, but RDR2 is also incredibly long and players will never get tired of the scenery. Arthur Morgan looks and feels like a real human being, and the same extends to every other character within the game. RDR2 is nothing short of art.
39)Groundbreaking Games From Yesteryear They Set The Standard
While not quite as regular of a phenomenon nowadays, the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s produced plenty of games that represented the next leap in graphical prowess. Titles like Pong, Asteroids, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Alone in the Dark, Ocarina of Time, Tomb Raider, Mist, Final Fantasy 7, and Grand Theft Auto 3 were all visual showcases that changed the industry.
Even if some of these projects' graphics have not aged extremely well, that does not diminish their accomplishments or importance. And, plenty of these masterpieces have stood the test of time, especially Nintendo's SNES-era releases.

2024.05.12 16:29 Nathan1123 Twilight Zone Integrated Universe (Part 2)

This is the rest of the timeline that I threw together, taking the thought experiment of "what if the Twilight Zone episodes took place in the same universe?" to its logical conclusion. The first part can be found here.

Alien visits and invasions (c.1955-1959)

The end of World War II marks the end of the "historical" episodes of the Twilight Zone, meaning that the rest of the episodes either takes place near the "present day" (1950s-1960s) or in the future (after 1964). The first category of episodes I want to address are those that involve alien visitations or invasions, and offer an explanation for why there are so many alien encounters over a relatively brief period of time.
Old Ben had been hiding on Earth for a while, possibly thousands of years, before he was suddenly discovered in the episode The Fugitive. This episode probably took place in the mid-1950s. This single discovery may have triggered a kind of "awakening" where Earth's existence suddenly became known to many alien races at once. Just like the discovery of a new continent in Earth's history, these alien races reacted to the discovery of Earth in different ways. Some visited for scientific curiosity (Stopover in a Quiet Town or Mr. Dingle, the Strong), some offered peaceful diplomacy (The Gift, The Fear), some planned conquest or commercial exploitation (To Serve Man or The Monsters are Due on Maple Street), and so forth. A critical analysis of these episodes gets a general sense of what order they probably took place in, all of which happened between the mid-to-late 1950s:
The episodes Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up? and Mr. Dingle, the Strong both make reference to an arms race between Mars and Venus, placing them around the same time. The secret experiments of the Martians were probably responsible for other individuals inexplicably receiving superpowers (The Prime Mover, The Four of Us Are Dying, and What You Need). This places all of these episodes around the late 1950s, or c.1958.
Even though no aliens actually visit during the episode, I Dream of Genie technically falls into the third category listed above, i.e. humanity being paranoid of an impending alien invasion. The genie here may be the same one who encountered Arthur Castle (The Man in the Bottle). This places both of these episodes in c.1959.

Space and Interdimensional Travel (1959-1963)

As mentioned earlier, the first phase of episodes involving space travel are limited to short distances between Earth and the Moon. There are four episodes that fall into that category: Where is Everyone?, I Shot an Arrow into the Air, And When the Sky Was Opened, and The Parallel, all of which can be solidly dated between 1959-1963.
Where is Everyone? explicitly gives the date as 1959, but it's mentioned that they are making preparations to land on the Moon. With the advanced space traveling technology stolen from the Kanamites, it's possible that the Moon landing was a full ten years earlier than in our timeline. As mentioned in a previous Reddit post, I Shot an Arrow into the Air is a very strange episode astronomically speaking: how could the astronauts not realize they traveled too short a distance to be on any other planet but Earth? Maybe because the humans didn't actually build this hyperspace engine, but they are still struggling to reverse-engineer the Kanamite technology, whose navigation equipment may still be a mystery. These kind of inferences is chiefly the reason why I pushed the alien invasions to the 1950s.
And When the Sky Was Opened mentions the astronauts rode in a X-20 Dyna-Soar, which is a real spaceship built in 1963 by the Boeing corporation. In our timeline, the project was canceled and the spaceship was never actually used, but this raises multiple questions. On the one hand, we could say that the project was successfully completed in the Twilight Zone universe. But on the other hand, at the end of the episode some unseen force erased the space craft from existence.
The Parallel specifically mentions that John F. Kennedy is President, dating the episode to 1963. But this tangentially opens up a related category of Twilight Zone episodes, regarding Earth's relationship with parallel universes. Just as was the case with extraterrestrial contact, the episodes regarding parallel universes can be arranged in a logical order:

The Cold War, and the Devil's influence (1961-1964)

The Whole Truth is dated to 1961, and this has some fascinating implications for the rest of the timeline. In this episode, a used car salesman possesses a car that causes its owner to always tell the truth. At the end of the episode, he convinces a Soviet correspondent to gift the car to Premier Nikita Khrushchev, during his meeting with President John F. Kennedy (which historically took place in 1961). But what geopolitical implications could there be if the premier of the Soviet Union was compelled to always tell the truth? Historically, Khrushchev already had a tenuous control over his regime, so a disaster like this could easily cause him to become deposed or even assassinated (not unlike the alternate timeline in the 1980s Twilight Zone episode Profile in Silver, but that's a story for another time). It may be the sudden shift in leadership of the Soviet Union that sets events in motion that leads to the nuclear war later in the timeline.
Knowing that the Devil is always active during times of political crisis, then it may be around this same time that the epilogue of The Howling Man takes place, when the Devil is released once again. The Devil appears in a female form in the episode Of Late I Think of Cliffordville, which is explicitly dated to 1963. Thus, other episodes that feature the Devil operating in the present day can be dated between 1961-1963 (Escape Clause, Printer's Devil, A Nice Place to Visit, and The Hunt). There are, of course, other episodes that involve demons or witchcraft (such as The Chaser, The Jungle, or Jesse-Belle) but not the Devil himself.

Robots and Sentient AI (1965-1974)

There are quite a lot of Twilight Zone episodes that involve sentient artificial intelligence in some way, or otherwise-inanimate objects that possess some intelligence (like The Dummy). Just as the case with developing space travel technology, the development of robotic technology evolves over multiple stages, which allows us to place these episodes in chronological order:
Note that this category does NOT include episodes objects that are possessed by ghosts or demons, as that obviously doesn't count as AI (for example, Long Distance Call).

Space Colonies and Nuclear War (c.1970-1997)

Having finished the 1960s, the next phase of the timeline returns to the subject of spaceflight technology, specifically interplanetary travel within our Solar System. The episode People are Alike All Over depicts the first landing on Mars, and while it doesn't give a date for this event we can estimate it from other information. The episode Elegy mentions that the human outpost "Happy Glades" was built in 1973, located on an asteroid 655 million miles from Earth. This distance is not enough to be outside the Solar System, but it is far enough to be located in the asteroid belt. Because the asteroid belt is farther away from Earth than Mars, then the first landing on Mars must have already happened by that point. Thus, this episode must take place in the early 1970s at the latest. With the acceleration of space travel technology, it's possible that the iconic Moon landing in 1969 was actually on Mars in this timeline.
There are two episodes that involve space travel to planets in other solar systems, supposedly close by to ours (The Invaders and The Little People). Both of these races had visited Earth years ago (Stopover in a Quiet Town and The Fear). These most likely take place in the late 1970s or early 1980s. At this stage, humanity is just exploring other planets and not attempting to establish colonies yet.
The episode Elegy establishes that nuclear war broke out in 1985, and a few other episodes take place around this same time. The growth of technology and social development since the Kanamite invasion did nothing to dissuade the political rivalry between the United States and Soviet Union, or if anything accelerated it. The USSR was probably taken over by a more radical faction after Khrushchev was deposed from power (The Whole Truth).
Two episodes mention the impending expectation of nuclear war, but in both of these cases the war turned out to be a false alarm (The Shelter and One More Pallbearer). The only episode to actually depict the war itself is Time Enough, At Last. The episode Two takes place five years after the war began, placing it in the year 1990. The episode The Old Man in the Cave takes place ten years after the war, dating it to 1995. By that point, the US government had already been re-established, and was slowly pulling itself back together by making contact with each isolated pocket of survivors. The United States continues to exist as a nation into the far future (The Long Morrow), but there is no indication that the Soviet Union survived the war.
As a result of interstellar travel being developed before the nuclear war broke out, there was a mass exodus of human refugees that set up colonies in distant star systems. The episode On Thursday We Leave for Home says that the V-9 Gamma colony was established in 1991, and they specifically mention that it was made by people fleeing Earth due to the outbreak of a global war. The episode Death Ship takes place in 1997, which mentions they are looking for planets suitable for colonization. The episode The Long Morrow initially takes place in 1987, in which Douglas Stansfield is sent to a star system 141 light years away from Earth (the longest distance ever given in a Twilight Zone episode).

The farther future (c.2000-2185)

By the 2020s, Earth (specifically the United States) is now re-establishing contact with the distant colonies that had previously been lost. On Thursday We Leave for Home takes place in 2021 and The Long Morrow takes place in 2027. In both of these cases, there is a specific point made on how rapidly Earth's technology has advanced since the colonists left in the late 20th century. One wonders how this is possible, considering the dismal state of civilization in the aftermath of the nuclear war (The Old Man in the Cave).
One possible explanation for this is the advanced alien technology left over in Peaceful Valley (Valley of the Shadow). Originally, the town was keeping their technology hidden out of fear of humanity using it for weapons of mass destruction. But having seen Earth go through a nuclear conflict, they can now feel confident that humanity has learned its lesson and is matured to the point of using the advanced technology properly. Thus, civilization fully recovered roughly around the year 2000.
A few episodes take place in the distant future beyond the 2020s. The Lonely takes place in the year 2046, at which point humans are using asteroids as penal colonies. The Rip Van Winkel Caper takes place in the year 2061, as four criminals put themselves in suspended animation since 1961. It's remarkable to think how much the world has changed since they fell asleep, as this is one of the most futuristic dates of any Twilight Zone episode. At this point, the human race is transitioning to a post-scarcity society as gold itself can be synthesized. Finally, the episode Elegy takes place in the year 2185, which mentions that even now civilization is still feeling the effects of the nuclear war.

Conformist Dystopia (date unknown)

There are a few other episodes that take place in some unspecified distant future, most likely further than any of the other episodes so far. When arranged in the right order, these episodes depict the gradual degeneration of humanity into a fascist dystopia obsessed with conformity, as the result of introducing a technology that can completely remodel or replace people's bodies.
This technology is first introduced in the episode The Trade-Ins. At this point, the process of replacing people's bodies are still voluntary and reversible. In fact, people have to pay an exorbitant amount of money for the privilege of getting remodeled. At some point later on, the technology becomes so widely ubiquitous that it no longer is an option, but mandatory (Number 12 Looks Just Like You). This episode and The Obsolete Man have an interesting relationship with each other, which suggests they may happen around the same era. In Number 12 Looks Just Like You, it is revealed that the remodeling process has a side-effect of removing people's empathy and individuality, which could explain the rise of fascism and public executions see in The Obsolete Man. Marilyn also mentions that her radical beliefs came as the result of reading "banned books" kept by her father, which is exactly the same reason why Romney Wordsworth was judged as obsolete.
The episode Eye of the Beholder also fits into this conformist dystopia very naturally. At this point, people have been using the body-replacement technology for so long (possibly centuries or millennia) that their very concept of what even is beauty has completely degenerated and warped. Of course, there is an alternate possibility that this episode takes place on another planet instead of the distant future, which would make it the only episode to never make reference to Earth at all.
As previously mentioned, I tend to assume that The Midnight Sun is the last chronological episode, as there is no way humanity would survive leaving the Sun's orbit. One could argue that it doesn't make sense for this episode to take place so far in the future, even later than Eye of the Beholder, as technology and society seems to have been completely restored to the way it was in the 1960s. But of course, we must remember that the majority of this episode is a fever dream, and we only see a brief glimpse at what the world looks like in the real world.

Other Observations

So much for all the episodes that I could fit into a single chronology. There are other episodes that are ambiguous on their time period, but nonetheless has some interesting implications if we assume they take place in the same universe:
The episode Mute says that all humans have an innate ability to be telepathic, but requires special training since infancy in order to use it. This could explain why Hector Poole randomly develops telepathic abilities in the episode Penny for your Thoughts: he accidentally unlocked his innate ability, with the upright penny acting as a kind of placebo. Unlike the other random superpowers, it is unlikely that the invisible Martians would have granted someone telepathy, because they would have immediately read the Martians' thoughts and reveal their existence.
In the episode A Short Drink from a Certain Fountain, it is revealed that Dr. Raymond Gordon has developed a serum that can reverse the aging process. This may be the same method that Charles Whitley used to reverse his aging, and the whole claim of "acting young" was a distraction (Kick the Can).
There are several episodes in which dreams have developed some kind of sentience on their own, and have some greater insight to the outside world. In almost all of these cases, these dreams have malicious intentions that deliberately tries to kill their host (Perchance to Dream, A Stop At Willoughby, Shadow Play, and Twenty-Two). This might be the result of some kind of trans-dimensional being that is able to enter people's minds for some reason. The Last Night of a Jockey also features a powerful being that lives in his head, which may be the same creature.
In the episode The Mind and the Matter, Archibald Beechcroft has developed a method of reshaping reality with his mind. Other episodes involve people being able to reshape reality at will, who may have stumbled across the same method (A World of His Own and It's a Good Life). While none of these episodes give a date, the sequel episode It's Still a Good Life says that it took place in 1963. I also put The Self-Improvement of Salvadore Ross in this same category, even though he technically doesn't have complete control over reality, his powers are so versatile he might as well be (able to exchange literally anything for anything). Again, these superpowers can't be explained by the same invisible Martians in Mr. Dingle, the Strong because reality control is simply too much for an alien to just hand out. There are a few other episodes that involve people having limited reality control, but they only ever end up making one wish with it (Four O'Clock, Sounds and Silences, and The Big Tall Wish). In terms of chronology, we know the last of these episodes must take place before 1968, since boxing with humans was made illegal (Steel).
In miscellaneous categories, there are two episodes that feature guardian angels (Cavender is Coming and Mr. Bevis). There are four episodes that feature the personification of death (One For the Angels, The Hitch-Hiker, Nothing in the Dark, and A Passage for Trumpet). There are five episodes that feature witches and sorcery (The Chaser, The Jungle, Jesse-Belle, The Bard, and The Masks). Aside from demons and angels, it seems that Rod Serling was rather reluctant to make use of any established mythological creatures, probably because they would be too distracting from the parable-like messages he was giving. The only exceptions to this are Santa Claus in Night of the Meek and Gremlins in Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.
By far and away, the biggest category of Twilight Zone episodes are those that feature karmic judgement from ghosts, a total of 21 episodes according to my count. Typically, these ghosts come back to seek punishment or justice against the person who did them wrong (Death's Head Revisited, The Thirty-Fathom Grave, Dead Man's Shoes, etc.). Sometimes they are just haunting images of a past trauma (Nightmare as a Child, The Arrival, or King Nine Will Not Return). But sometimes, the ghosts instead are coming back to give congratulations or some kind of catharsis (Changing of the Guard, The Trouble with Templeton, or The Sixteen Millimeter Shrine). Sometimes it's a case of the ghost themselves seeking catharsis (Night Call or Long Distance Call). And sometimes they are ghosts of famous historical figures with unfinished business (He's Alive, Showdown With Rance McGraw, or A Game of Pool).

2024.05.12 02:36 Dantastic1985 Frozen Empire has me Frozen in Place.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – A Missed Opportunity and a Path to Redemption
"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" had the potential to be a nostalgic revival and a fresh start for the iconic franchise, but it stumbled in numerous ways, leaving fans disappointed and yearning for the magic of the original films. Here's a comprehensive analysis of the film's shortcomings, incorporating all feedback and suggestions for improvement:
Misplaced Focus and Missed Potential:
Original Ghostbusters Sidelined: Instead of focusing on the original Ghostbusters and providing a satisfying conclusion to their stories, the film prioritized underdeveloped side characters and convoluted plotlines. Callie, Gary, Trevor, and Phoebe should have taken center stage as the new generation of Ghostbusters.
Ray Stantz's Sacrifice: The film missed a significant opportunity by not allowing Ray Stantz's infectious enthusiasm to be the catalyst for the paranormal events. His heroic sacrifice to save Phoebe, while wearing his original Ghostbuster gear, could have elevated the emotional stakes, solidifying his legacy and passing the torch to the new generation. Ray could have even emerged as a ghost to aid in the final battle, guiding Melody's ghost.
Slimer's Expanded Role: Slimer's connection to Garraka was underutilized. He could have been a central figure, serving as a bridge between the original and new teams, with his ghostly past intertwined with the current threat. Slimer could have been revealed as a 1908 Adventure Society member killed by the Death Chill, connecting him to the film's opening.
Wasted Talent: Emily Alyn Lind's casting as a ghost was a missed opportunity. Her character could have been human, starting as such and then transitioning into a ghost after an accident, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative.
Connecting Threads and Missed Opportunities:
Upgraded Packs and Mystery: The introduction of upgraded packs could have been more mysterious and drawn out. Having Lucky initially wear them and then reveal their ineffectiveness later on would have added an element of suspense and intrigue.
Consolidated Side Stories: Phoebe, Trevor, Lucky, and Slimer could have shared a single, cohesive side story, reminiscent of classic 80s films like "E.T." and "The Goonies," focusing on their friendship and adventures under the same roof. This would eliminate the need for separate ghost side stories for Phoebe and Trevor.
Walter Peck's Redemption Arc: Walter Peck's return should have been more than just a shallow antagonist. Giving him a redemption arc, potentially joining forces with the Ghostbusters at the firehouse, would have provided a satisfying and unexpected twist.
Acknowledging the Original Characters: The film should have acknowledged Dana Barrett, Louis Tully, and Oscar, reminding the audience of their lasting impact and connecting the past to the present.
Peter as Nadeem's Mentor: Peter Venkman should have taken on the role of training Nadeem, utilizing his experience and wisdom to guide the young psychic.
Improved Setting and Character Interactions:
The Firehouse as a Central Hub: Consolidating the action under the firehouse, with a new public-facing area showcasing the Ghostbusters' work, would have provided a stronger visual identity and fostered greater interaction between characters.
Lars Pinfield's Role: Stationing Lars Pinfield at the firehouse with the upgraded Containment unit would have further connected the different locations and characters, streamlining the narrative.
The Secondary Unit's Location: The secondary unit should have been located in a new area accessible through a hidden door in the firehouse, adding an element of mystery and expanding the headquarters.
The Firehouse as a Tourist Attraction: Opening the new public area for tours would have added a unique dimension to the film, creating potential conflict with Walter Peck and leading to exciting scenarios.
Winston's Response to Phoebe: Winston should have been angry at Ray for endangering Phoebe instead of scolding her for blowing up the statue. This would have highlighted Ray's deteriorating judgment, leading to a more impactful and emotional turn of events.
The Path to Redemption:
Focus on the New Generation: Future installments should prioritize Callie, Gary, Trevor, and Phoebe as the primary Ghostbusters, allowing them to grow and develop as a team.
Fresh Threats and Challenges: The franchise should introduce new and imaginative paranormal threats that push the boundaries of the Ghostbusters' universe, ensuring exciting and unpredictable adventures.
Honoring the Legacy: While embracing the new generation, the franchise should continue to honor the legacy of the original Ghostbusters, weaving their stories and memories into the ongoing narrative, ensuring that their spirit lives on.
