2024.05.14 17:03 JustANiceGirlYall Be honest Austin…. You Love Capitalism! 😈
Proof Austin Loves and SUPPORTS Capitalism:
- Austin begs for the $$ made from capitalism every single day through his enablers work.
- Austin wants to buy another car, built by capitalist.
- Austin begs for $$ on social media websites - created and run by capitalist.
- Austin traveled the country via our railroad system. Run by capitalist.
- Austin pays for an internet service owned by capitalist.
- Austin skipped out on a hospital bill when he had a foot infection. When medical bills are left unpaid, this gives capitalists who are running hospitals systems reasons to charge those who do pay our bills a reason to charge more for services via our insurance. And so, our insurance premiums rise as well. So, Austin assisted multiple capitalists with this one.
- Austin purchased his coat and bought lots of supplies for his apartment last year at Walmart - one of the biggest capitalists on the planet.
- Austin purchase video games, is a PS4/PS5 gamer - owned by Sony, a major capitalist.
- Austin *wrote and *tries to *sell his book on Amazon for a profit. Amazon is one of the biggest and most profitable capitalists entities on the planet that supports capitalists.
Yep, Austin. You love and support Capitalism. You have a choice. You always have. You could live off the grid, live off the land. Seek out a self-sustaining community of communist. But baby wants his weed and his toys. And most important, baby doesn’t want to work. 😂

2024.05.14 17:01 Imaginary_Cow_6379 Your Brain Waves Are Up for Sale. A New Law Wants to Change That.
| non-paywall link The law takes aim at consumer-level brain technologies. Unlike sensitive patient data obtained from medical devices in clinical settings, which are protected by federal health law, the data surrounding consumer neurotechnologies go largely unregulated, Mr. Genser said. That loophole means that companies can harvest vast troves of highly sensitive brain data, sometimes for an unspecified number of years, and share or sell the information to third parties. Supporters of the bill expressed their concern that neural data could be used to decode a person’s thoughts and feelings or to learn sensitive facts about an individual’s mental health or physical condition, such as whether someone has epilepsy. “We’ve never seen anything with this power before — to identify, codify people and bias against people based on their brain waves and other neural information,” said Sean Pauzauskie, a member of the board of directors of the Colorado Medical Society, who first brought the issue to Ms. Kipp’s attention. Law only applies to Colorado so far so try not to do any thinking outside of the state. submitted by Imaginary_Cow_6379 to conspiracytheories [link] [comments] |
2024.05.14 16:53 AncientPublic6329 Received a bill for medical services received over 9 months ago. Do I have pay it?
Over 9 months ago I got a new pair of glasses from the Vision Center at my local Walmart. I gave them my vision insurance info, paid my copay, and they sent me on my merry way. A couple days ago I received a bill saying that Walmart couldn’t get my insurance to pay as much as they thought they would. Do I have to pay this or can I just tell them to go to hell and take my business elsewhere next time I need new glasses?

2024.05.14 16:52 MakeshiftApe Those of you worried it'll last forever: It can get better, even if it's been long-lasting! (Warning: Long and rambly)
I haven't browsed this subreddit in a while, but I thought I'd pop in and share my experience to hopefully maybe encourage some people here.
I experienced psychosis for the entirety of 2023, and the first couple months of 2024. Due to how long it was, having only dealt with psychotic episodes lasting a few days before (always due to drugs, that would wear off when the drugs were removed), I truly thought I was stuck dealing with it for life, but to my immense relief it finally gave way and ended in March of this year.
The full story:
My psychosis was initially triggered by drugs, specifically heavy stimulant abuse. I was staying up for 3-4 days at a time, repeatedly over the course of months, taking absolutely insane amounts of stimulants during that time, and basically in constant stimulant psychosis. I was hearing voices, paranoid my family were going to kill me or send me to rehab. I even thought that people from rehab were in my ceiling or walls planning to break in and grab me any moment.
I finally ended up landing myself in hospital after it reached its worst point and I called the police and fire brigade thinking my family had set my room on fire to kill me (spoiler alert: there was no fire). They carted me off in an ambulance, but the psych ward was full so I was just put in a regular bed with all the other patients and being still fully psychotic I ripped out my IV and walked out of there about half an hour later, not fully treated, with a $150 bill to deal with (I'm in the EU but on private healthcare). Regardless of the fact I wasn't treated, that event scared the life out of me so much that it was finally what made me decide to get clean.
I stopped the drugs in April 2023, but unfortunately, the psychosis did not go away. It certainly lessened over the few days after I quit drugs, but I was still hearing voices, convinced my family were going to kill me and that I could hear them plotting about it, thought I was constantly being monitored by cameras and spyware on my PC, and thought the neighbours were helping with my family's plot. Months passed with no improvement, I was terrified every day, and it was absolute torture.
Improvement for my symptoms all started with me seeing a psychiatrist in August of last year. I only reluctantly did that, because I wanted to tell the psychiatrist about my fears that my family would hurt me, so that if anything happened some authority figure would know and could contact the police. Once I saw her, and talked to her about my symptoms, I was put on Risperidone. It didn't completely cover my symptoms, my paranoia in particular seemed to be hard to treat and I was still constantly feeling like I was being watched and monitored - but while it was active in my system I almost never heard voices anymore, those mostly only cropped up if I took one of my doses a couple hours late or forgot a dose. After some dose adjustments I mostly stopped believing that my family intended to kill me (occasionally something would trigger those thoughts resurfacing but it was always temporary and would pass).
After a while I tried Haloperidol to see if it would rid me of the paranoia and be less sedating/numbing than Risperidone, it seemed to work better in that regard but gave me horrible akathisia, which was unbearable, so after a few days I returned to Risperidone, just at a slightly lower dose. The sedation and numbness was gone at that dose and it ended up still being enough to provide symptom relief (FWIW: that was, 0.5mg in the morning, 1mg in the afternoon, 1mg before bed).
Then in October I started seeing a therapist. I really can't recommend therapy enough. I truly didn't initially believe therapy could help at all, I figured since psychosis has a neuropharmacological basis, the only thing that could offer any relief was meds, and if the meds weren't ridding me of it entirely, then I was just stuck dealing with those remaining symptoms and my only option would be to try other meds and hope I eventually found something that gave me complete relief.
To my surprise though, therapy actually helped a LOT. My first therapy session I went to, I didn't connect with the therapist and they were very dismissing and patronising, so I booked a session with another therapist instead, and I'm so glad I booked that second therapist and didn't give up. My therapist helped me understand how a lot of my psychotic symptoms seemed to be a protective mechanism that my brain had, trying to protect me from certain things I was afraid of and underexposed to. I started exposure therapy, and started talking about my delusions and figuring out the reasons behind them. This eventually led to me starting to experience days when I no longer felt paranoid or like I was being watched.
Eventually, somewhere around December last year, this became the new norm. I was almost entirely symptom free. I did however still need to depend on my meds to keep it that way. If I was late to take or missed a dose, paranoia and even hallucinations would come back with a vengeance.
Fast forward to March this year though, and I ran out of Risperidone. It was a Sunday so my local pharmacy was closed and I had to wait an additional day to get meds. The longest I had ever missed a dose for before was a few hours, and that would always send me back into full blown intense auditory hallucinations, and sometimes mild visual ones, as well as deep paranoia like thinking my family were going to kill me.
But the day passed and.. Nothing. No voices, no thinking my family wanted to hurt me, no feeling like I was being watched. I just felt normal the entire time. From that point forward, when I forgot to take my doses on time, or forgot them entirely, nothing bad happened. I eventually spoke to my psychiatrist about this and she said I could start taking whatever dose I felt was right on a given day, anywhere from 0mg to 2.5mg total. Now I take far less, and often don't take it at all. In fact in the last week I think I've taken 0.5mg total over the entire week.
And no symptoms have returned. I'm not going to get myself too excited and say it's gone forever, I know there's a possibility I have schizophrenia and that this was one of potentially many episodes I may go through during my life. I'm also not going to stop my meds entirely for the time being, as I know that being on APs for at least a year substantially reduces the risk of a recurrent episode. That said, I at least discovered that a long episode CAN come to an end, something I truly didn't believe during the midst of it. I thought I would be suffering forever, but now I'm finally feeling better.
I thought I would share this story in case anyone else is in the thick of it right now and scared that they'll feel the way they do forever. It can get better.
If you aren't medicated already, I highly suggest it, and making sure to adjust dose or meds as necessary until you get relief from at least most of your symptoms. If a med or dose doesn't work for you, please tell your doctor right away and get it changed, don't suffer in silence!
& Just as importantly, if you aren't in therapy yet, please consider it and don't underestimate just how much therapy can make a difference. Also if therapy doesn't help or you don't gel with your therapist, switch therapist! There are so many different therapists out there with different approaches to therapy, you CAN find one that's right for you. Meds are what kept the majority of my symptoms at bay, but I think therapy is actually what allowed me to improve until the symptoms were gone entirely. Without it I don't think I'd be symptom free today.
Wishing you all the best in your situations, stay strong and hold out hope 💗

2024.05.14 16:43 ryry_28 MH and losing my job/home
I was medically retired 6 months ago. After finding out what was happening I went into a severe severe depressive episode and spent ~6 months in IOP therapy for 6-8 hours per day.
After officially leaving AD, my family and I (4 of us, 2 kids under 5), moved back east and I got a job paying ~ 6 figures.
We bought a house with the VA loan such that my retirement pay each month pays for the mortgage.
I've been having a lot of SI the last few days, and I don't have intent, but it's getting bad. I haven't been at my job long enough for FMLA and don't have workers insurance, but I'm afraid of having to go back to some long term therapy solution and thus losing my house, etc. my job is in defense and is... very dark in what we do, so it isn't the best but it pays the bills.
Idk what to do. I need to keep my family supported, but don't want to lose our house or anything by taking care of myself.

2024.05.14 16:33 Tricky-Molasses-6192 Selling House to Pay Debt?
My husband and I have unfortunately racked up $25,000 in credit card debt in the last two years. Some of it was bad decisions or living outside our means and some of it was just bad luck and life circumstances. Regardless, it’s here now and we have to deal with it.
Personally, I think we need to sell our house to pay it off and get a lower mortgage and lower cost of living. Our mortgage went up $200 this past November because of a tax increase and I just found out our taxes are going to go up again every year for the next 5 years (that’s the plan the current board put out). We have about $150,000 of equity in our house. The only issue is that the housing market sucks so I’m not sure we’d even be able to find something less expensive that can accommodate us and I’ve heard renting is just as bad. We have three kids so I want to keep them in mind and I don’t want to just keep hauling them around moving them every few years.
My husband thinks we should do debt consolidation or bankruptcy but I said that doesn’t solve the issue that we can’t afford this house.
Is it crazy to sell? Are his options better? Is there something we’re missing?
Side note: I’ve been through our budget and even if we never eat out, cut streaming, or do anything extra, we only have about $200 extra per month and that’s paying the minimums on the cards. With random things like car repairs and medical bills popping up, it just doesn’t feel like enough to be able to pay it down.

2024.05.14 15:46 WebRepulsive8329 Asked for itemized bill... both via phone and in writing. Bill sent straight to collections.
Gotta love it. Our local HCA hospital, which has had a whole host of issues as of late just sent my wife's bill to collections.
Back story:
My wife had a lipoma removal last November. Because of it's location on the back of the neck, they had her do the removal at the hospital. Out patient, was there for... six hours. We have gotten (and paid) bills for the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, the biopsy, pre op medical visit, and a bill for the 'room'. Then a few weeks ago we get another bill for 2700$. But this one doesn't say anywhere what it's for, just a bill from the hospital. So... we called up, and asked for an itemized bill, and followed up with a letter requesting an itemized bill. We don't have an issue paying for it, but we wanted to see what that 2700$ was for. And yet, yesterday, we got a letter from a medical debt collection agency demanding payment in full. We never got an itemized bill. I'll be honest, I'm a little surprised, and I know I shouldn't be. The same hospital tried to charge me 1800$ for a tetanus shot and a butterfly bandage.
(Side story: about 8 years ago I was half asleep trying to make my kids frozen waffles. I grabbed a steak knife to separate the frozen waffles, not my finest decision, and the tip of the knife went straight into my finger. It was 6:30 am, and it wouldn't stop bleeding. My wife insisted we go to the ER. So I went... they wiped it off, gave me a tetanus shot and threw a butterfly bandage on it.. and then told me since my deductible was 1800$ for the ER, the charge was 1800$. BUT... if it paid it right now, it would only be 1700$. I laughed at the woman telling me this, much to her annoyance. At the time I worked for a cardiology group doing IT work for them who did procedures at the same hospital. the medical head saw my finger, asked me what happened. I told him about it and the charge... he shook his head, took out his cell phone made a 3 minute call and bam... all charges gone.)
So what next? I've seen some places where people say you can request an itemized bill from the collection agency, but I've seen others say you can't. I don't work for the cardiology group anymore, so that's not really an option (though I left on good terms) Anyone have any suggestions?

2024.05.14 15:32 PatnSniff440 Resources that may be able to help with car repairs?
Does anyone know of any resources in the Upper Valley that may be able to help with car repaimaintenance? We are a moderate two-income household (85K-) with two kids. We've never been able to really stay "on top" of car maintenance/repairs as our bills have always been sky high. Even with minimizing as much as possible we're still (supposed to be) paying about $5500+ in bills and such before food, gas, clothes, etc. I am pretty savvy at doing my own repairs, so, I've been able to do minor work on my own. However, its getting to the point where needed maintenance/repairs are piling up faster than I can figure out issues as they arise and afford parts for repairs. We are lucky enough to have space to do repairs outside but no garage. This means I only have about six months every year to get the cars working well enough to get through the winter. This includes troubleshooting, finding affordable quality parts and tools, and finding the time to do the repairs between work and kids activities.
At this point, we just need to put the cars in a shop and have them completely maintained and repaired. We just can't afford it.
So, if anyone knows of any programs or resources that may be able to help please send it my way!!
Thanks folks!

DAY: MAY 13, 2024
- 5-13-2024BIKING REVEALED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH LESS KNEE PAIN LATER IN LIFE A study reveals that people who participated in regular bicycling over their lifetime had a lower prevalence of frequent knee pain, radiographic osteoarthritis (ROA) and symptomatic radiographic osteoarthritis (SOA). Rheumatologists often encourage regular physical activity for the prevention of osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis. However, some exercises are more effective than others.
- 5-13-2024STRESSFUL LIFE EVENTS CAN INCREASE YOUR RISK OF ALZHEIMER’S Stressful life events, such as the death of a loved one or divorce, put a person at greater risk of developing dementia in later life, a recent study has found. But only if the stressful event happened in childhood or midlife. The study included 1,290 people at increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers looked at 18 stressful life events and when in people’s lives they happened.
- 5-13-2024TIPS FOR LOWERING STROKE RISK May is National Stroke Awareness Month, and as part of everyday awareness, Mayo Clinic health care professionals suggest reducing stroke risk and knowing the signs. A stroke happens every 40 seconds in the U.S., and the likelihood of stroke increases with age, according to the National Institutes of Health. Preventing a stroke is a crucial aspect of health care, as about 80% of all strokes are preventable. The focus is on managing risk factors to reduce the long-term risk of stroke.
- 5-13-2024IT’S TIME TO USE TIKTOK TO TALK TO YOUNG PEOPLE ABOUT OBESITY, SAYS RESEARCHER There is an urgent need to harness the potential of TikTok and other social media channels to provide scientific information about obesity to young people in engaging and accessible way . The popularity and broad reach of such platforms provides the opportunity to reach diverse audiences, including teenagers and young adults, explains lead researcher Dr. Antonella Franceschelli, of Unicamillus International Medical University, Rome, Italy.
- 5-13-2024WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE NUTRITION ADVICE FROM A CENTENARIAN It’s a cliche of reporting on people who reach 100 years of age, or even 110, to ask them some variation of the question: “What did you do to live this long?” Inevitably, some interesting and unexpected answer is highlighted. Fish and chips every Friday. Drinking a glass of strong liquor every day. Bacon for breakfast every morning. Wine and chocolate. While a popular news story, this is a relatively meaningless question that doesn’t help us understand why certain people have lived so long.
- 5-13-2024JUNK FOOD MARKETING ON VIDEOGAME LIVESTREAMING PLATFORMS INCREASES PURCHASES AND CONSUMPTION AMONG TEENS, STUDY FINDS Food and drink advertisements on videogame livestreaming platforms (VGLSPs) like Twitch are associated with more positive attitudes towards, and purchases and intake of, unhealthy foods that are high in fat, salt and/or sugar (HFSS) like energy drinks among adolescents aged 18 or younger. The concerning findings prompt researchers to call for stronger regulations on digital marketing of unhealthy foods to young people on these platforms, where there is currently no effective regulation

- 5-13-2024ASKING ADULTS WITH OBESITY ABOUT THEIR WEIGHT DURING CHILDHOOD COULD HELP DETERMINE THEIR MORTALITY RISK Being asked whether you considered yourself a normal weight, plumper or thinner as a child when attending a doctor’s appointment as an adult might appear like a very strange question to ask, but new research suggests that such questions can help identify increased mortality risk in adults living with obesity.
- 5-13-2024ENERGY DRINKS CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS HEART ISSUES IN KIDS AND TEENS, HEALTH EXPERTS SAY Hennessy Sepulveda thought she was going to die. “I began dissociating as I was driving. I was 10 minutes away from my house. My vision started warping and the lights were hitting me really bright,” she said. “I felt my chest pounding, I felt a wave of panic hit me—I knew something was wrong.” Sepulveda, a Florida International University student who was 19 at the time, was admitted to the hospital, and was surprised by the cause of her symptoms
- 5-13-2024A BLOOD TEST TO HELP DETECT LUNG CANCER? NEW TEST OFFERED AT 18 LOCATIONS Julie Harris had never been tested for lung cancer. A low-dose CT scan, the only recommended screening for adults at risk of developing lung cancer, was not something she’d ever found time to do. But when her primary care doctor recently suggested a new blood test to help look for signs of the disease, Harris was intrigued. She had her blood drawn the same day, in the same building as her doctor’s appointment.

- 5-13-2024BREAKTHROUGH THERAPIES ARE SAVING LIVES, BUT CAN WE AFFORD THEM? Harnessing the body’s own cells to fight disease, long a medical dream, is finally a reality. Now comes the bill. Last month, Stanford became the first hospital in the nation to use a new $515,000 cell therapy to treat a patient with advanced melanoma. A related approach, costing $420,000 to $475,000, is offering hope to patients with lethal blood cancers. Meanwhile, cells fixed by gene therapy can slow, even stop, the progression of intractable diseases like sickle cell or beta thalassemia—

2024.05.14 15:14 Old_Pie_8822 Am I doing okay? Just want confirmation that I’m on a good financial track
24F, independent - I live alone in a 1 bedroom apartment, $900 a month. I pay utilities, approx. $50 for gas and $100 for electric a month. I have my own car that I’m financing (hoping to get it refinanced before the summer), currently paying $300 insurance and $400 a month for financing. Groceries and house expenses cost me about $250 a month (including food and necessities for my cat). I have a credit card at about 50% utilization, I owe about $200 minimum a month on it. Good credit score (~720). Other expenses I pay for are internet ($60 a month - they recently increased this rate), Hulu/spotify ($12 a month), apple care (~$11 a month), a yoga studio membership ($109 a month), and an ID Theft protection on my credit card ($15 a month). I also have medical bills that I’ve been putting off because I had a medical emergency earlier this year (total bills come to about $2300 after insurance kicked in. I have not set up a payment plan yet). I work full time plus OT as a social worker, babysit for cash on the side, and drive for doordash occasionally (usually for gas money or small expenses) - income comes to approx. $2600 a month. I am enrolled in a masters degree for my career path that should help be get close to 6 figs before i’m 30, if I stay on track.
It never feels like enough, but all the bills get paid at the end of the month and I’m never late, so I guess I can’t really complain. But I can’t comfortably afford to go out with friends often (maybe once a month) and I put away only about $100 a month into savings. Depending on whether or not I can score OT, I can’t always keep that $100 in savings (OT is not guaranteed at my job, but I can usually get an extra 8 to 10 hours a month added in). Is there anything I could be doing better? Am I on a good track for maintaining stability? Should I be worried? I usually only have $50-ish of spare cash at the very end of the month.

2024.05.14 14:48 Caramel-Inevitable My experience with egg retrieval, including my protocol, costs, scheduling and results (US)
I started stim on 5/2/24, which was the second day of my cycle/period. Here are some stats: * AMH 1.48 and AFC 32 (12 on the left and 20 on the right) at baseline bloodwork and ulttasound in February. * I had alcohol until 2 days before my cycle started. I didn't drink once my period started. * I stopped lifting weights once I started stim. I didn't do much cardio either.
This was my protocol (Day 1 means "day 1 of stim", which is the second day of my cycle):
Day 1-Day 4 * Gonal F 225iu * Menupur 75iu
Symptoms: Slightly more emotional. Belly felt like I might be pregnant and I felt the need to be extra careful when getting out of bed etc. Overall felt my usual self.
Sex: Non penetrative. Orgasm caused no discomfort. At certain times, sucking in my tummy felt a bit like I might be pushing down on something inside me.
Tests: bloodwork and ultrasound on Day 1
Day 5-Day 9 * Gonal F 225iu * Menupur 75iu * Centrotide .25mg
Symtoms: Not much.
Tests: bloodwork and ultrasound on Day 5 and Day 8. I think they said the follicular count was 6 on the left and 16 on the right.
Sex: Non penetrative maybe around Day 5 or 6. Orgasm caused no discomfort.
Day 10 * Gonal F 225iu * Menupur 75iu * Centrotide .25mg Trigger shots at 9:45pm * HCG (Novarel) 5000 is * Lupron (Leuprolide Acetate) 80 units (4mg)
Tests: bloodwork and ultrasound on Day 10. Follicular count (that were large enough) had increased to 8 on the left and 18 on the right. Most of them were around 16mm to 17mm. I think there was one that was like 19mm. This is from memory so the numbers might not be exact.
Day 11
• 11am Azithromycin 1g (two 500 mg tablets)
I was asked to take this on Day 10 at night, but I misread the instructions and took it in the AM on Day 11. I was told this is fine.
Hydration: I drank a lot of water throughout the day in preparation for surgery the next day. I didn't eat or drink anything after 11pm that night.
Symtoms: Woke up on Day 11 with pelvic discomfort and cramps which I figured was from the trigger shots the night before. I was waddling a bit when walking. Driving over small bumps caused discomfort. After taking the Azithromicin at 11am, I felt a bit feverish. I had to lay down. I fell asleep for a couple of hours. I woke up around 3pm feeling perfectly fine. The pelvic cramps were gone as well. The rest of the day was smooth sailing, except for this feeling like my stomach was stretched beyond normal. It almost felt like I was constantly holding in my stomach because of the way it was stretching my tummy.
Tests: bloodwork on Day 11
Day 12
Retrieval in the morning. The IV stung throughout the procedure until they put me under. This was probably the most uncomfortable part of the entire procefure. I was out of the clinic in almost exactly 2 hours. It almost felt like I just went in for a blood draw and walked out. It doesn't feel like anyone did anything down there.
Before leaving the hospital they told me they were able to retrieve 30 eggs. Later in the day they left a message in the online portal saying they were able to freeze 27.
I spent the day on the couch drinking gatorade. Took a nap. Overall I'm felt great, other than for a very slight headache which started around 6pm. I had a Tylenol extra strengh which helped. It kind of felt like I drank a bit the night before and I was hungover. I'm prescribed Letrozole two times for 7 days a day and Cabergoline at night for 16 days.
Costs\ My insurance didn't cover anything related to fertility. Out of pocket cost was around $13300 ($8100 for procedure, $650 anesthesia, $35 initial tele visit, $4500 medication). I might have spent an additional $150-$300 in bloodwork.
I did have an additional $760 added to my cost because I visited a different hospital initially (Penn medicine in Philly) - they were not upfront about all the costs and ended up charging me $380 for the initial visit with the doctor (which was a bit like a sales pitch) and another $380 for the baseline ultrasound even though they told me it would be covered by my insurance. It was also really hard to get a call back from their billing team (they rarely return your calls).
Scheduling\ Main Line fertility in Philly worked with my cycle. Since I already had the baseline ultrasound and bloodwork done, they were able to get me started on stims with my upcoming cycle.
They required me to call them on Day 1 of my period to schedule to come in and get bloodwork on Day 2. I started stim on Day 2 of my period. I had my retrieval on Day 13 of my period.
End to end, starting from my first consult with them, I had my eggs retrieved in 21 days.
The hospital I was working with previously (Penn Medicine), had me going around in circles for months. It was extremely stressful. I'll write a separate post about red flags to look out for when choosing a clinic/hospital.

2024.05.14 14:44 bFallen Small ER bill sent to collections without ever receiving the bill
I had to go to the ER in October 2023 and had a small bill (few hundred dollars) to pay for the visit.
I never received a billing statement from the hospital, and I tried multiple times in late 2023 to access the hospital's website portal to pay the bill, but was unable to find or create a login. The hospital did not answer my calls.
In December, I did receive a call from a spam-like number that tried to collect on the bill from me, but wanted payment over the phone. Between that and the fact that I never received a bill from the hospital itself, I asked them to send me a written copy of the billing notice before I would act. I never received anything. They called a couple more times but never left a message.
Fast forward to now: the hospital is now telling me that my bill was sent to collections in early/mid March, and gave me a number to call.
I called the collections agency to clear this bill but they could not find any record for me.
I am not sure what to do now:
- Is it worth calling the hospital again? In theory I shouldn't be paying them anymore since they sold the bill to the collections agency, right? But they never even sent me a bill in the first place.
- How long does it usually take a collections agency to process a bill and contact someone after buying their medical bill? In my case, it's been more than two months...
I could have paid this bill the day I received treatment, so it is really frustrating that I have never received a billing statement and now the debt was sent to a collections agency which also doesn't seem to have it. I want this paid off so it doesn't come back to bite me or anything.
Appreciate any information or advice!

2024.05.14 14:40 evicthom Is this situation as strange as it feels to me?
Background-we met at the beginning of Covid. Split last July 2 months after we got married. I kicked her out of house instead of leaving for a time. I was married previously to probable BPD . Lots of abuse, mostly verbal. Gaslighting. Etc.
Relationship with (hopefully not soon to be ex) wife had a gradual descent with peaks and valleys along the way. When it ended, she had begun taking medication to help keep anxiety/anger from being too overwhelming, but I didn’t wait to see if it worked and asked her to leave. Throughout the relationship we were supposed to have kids which I later retracted in a moment of fear. Move into new place together which I also retracted in a moment of fear… do all kinds of things together that I would just say no to. I issued ultimatums and dug into positions that felt like the right ones to me at the time but were in retrospect not healthy for our relationship.
Felt very self righteous. That no one should raise their voice to me (triggered by last relationship). She left, we hadn’t really talked since I said I was sure I wanted a divorce and she got stuff out. There were moments I’d think of her and wonder if I’d made the right decision, but I didn’t see a version of reality where I wouldn’t just do the same stuff again. Felt very angry and upset and concerned that I was unable to take accountability even on my own internally for my role in demise…. I go to therapy and continually talk about the stories that still make me mad but fail to accept responsibility for them.
Several weeks ago, she reached out to me. We ended up talking on the phone-she had had a crazy night and sounded a little off, but it was still just her. Same ole girl I loved before, but all the anger I had come to allow myself be defined was gone…just fondness. I immediately cease the contact because I felt uncomfortable. Another couple weeks pass and she reaches out again. We talk more than we have in entire separation that one night. We chat a little more and the subject of the papers that still aren’t done comes up… I am very confused. What’s happening? Am I finally grieving the relationship? Do I have a brain tumor? Am I just feeling jealous? Nicotine withdrawal? I run through explanation after explanation in my head , finding momentary comfort in some but mostly feeling this same terrible creeping dread. It hits me-I’m still very much in love with my wife. I just came to think that the angry and hurt feelings WERE me instead of the way I was feeling….
I immediately send her an email to this effect. This was last Wednesday. I’ve made a terrible mistake. Making you leave after 2 months of marriage is the worst thing I’ve ever done to another human being. I know it is likely too late but I want to reconcile with you.
Along with this comes the flood of accountability I wasn’t able to see before. Yes, my spouse yelled at me and said some very cruel things. That was in the context of being abandoned in place by me. My avoidant and distant behaviors and the way those make her feel absolutely awful and they would have done the same to me. I shut down any kind of escalated conversation because it triggered me from my ex wife. I too said cruel and hurtful things to my spouse. She was begging me to be by her side but I just got it in my head that I wanted to stay angry. I’m flooded with emotion-was up for 2 consecutive days last week riding the roller coaster of intense love, fear that it’s too late, shame and regret for dumping my lover that way, and intense remorse. We have been talking , a lot. I’m sending too many texts and she is sending a reasonable amount of texts. We’ve talked on the phone daily for at least an hour with some days reaching more like 4-5. I see a path for us that includes all the things we’ve dreamed of together. The kids the shared house all of it. Daydream about making love to her while our hypothetical newborn naps in the next room-I tell her this is my desire because it it and I’m so sure of it . I’m sharing with her and emotionally open and honest with her in a way that I’ve rarely managed before. She is patient and calm with me in ways that she had struggled to be before. I’m able to stay calm despite escalation and recontextuslize things that previously felt like criticism as what they are - loving guidance and expecting the best out of partner.
She hasn’t told me no but hasn’t told me yes either. She did tell me she still loves me which sent me soaring - didn’t even end it with “but not like that.” I caused her a great deal of pain but it’s starting to feel like a second chance might be possible. It’s been 10 months since she left and I have a hard time even connecting to the things that made me me want out in the first place …. I feel different….she says as much too….so much crying about the pain and devastation I caused
I hope we try to reconcile. It doesn’t even seem like it would be that hard to do a whole lot better….. I am kind of finding myself believing she will….
You don’t really hear stories like this too often. Is this as weird and atypical as it feels to me? Who else is on team believe?
Regardless of what happens, I’ve reconnected with a part of myself that I didn’t even know was there anymore . An emotional and vulnerable person was still in there. That is truly a gift.
