Started in 1960 and it was rough. Heating issues, water cuts, backed up sewers... but I made it to 10k people. In 1968 I had to enable cheat mode for a one time "loan forgiveness". I built up debt into 1980 but finally turned the profitability corner. So here's what I'm going to try to do in my next play:
Macro Layout
Pollution is king. When things ramped up, 400 meters wasn’t enough. Put the edge of housing a full kilometer from industry and waste handling.
Rail is important early. Lay in a single rail line to pull gravel for construction, coal for a heating plant + bricks, and connecting the farm to the industry. Build your construction industry on one side of the border and your manufacturing industry on the other side of it.
City layout
Start with a bus stop and building your residential buildings 200 meters max away from it. Put paths parallel to roads. Create redundant paths to everything so upgrading to gravel, asphalt, etc. doesn’t break things. Build all your housing on one side of the bus stop initially.
Put city services based on vehicles (police, fire, etc.) outside the core of the city. They’ll only be walkable to half of the city compared to the bus stop but the city can be larger. Same with university and schools. Schools, kindergartens, etc. may become overcrowded as the city grows. Build the large hospital in the core as despite having ambulances it is primarily a walking building.
Transfer for big waste (large) should be at the edge of your city and connected to a rail line. Technical services delivers to there. From there, a rail line eventually exports it for handling. Until the rail station is built, use a distribution office to export waste. Sorting is key and should be researched early. Use Stand for big waste containers (small) attached to roads to collect waste whenever possible. Stand for small containers (large) can be used when footpath access is the only option but it’s remarkably less efficient. Citizens produce about 1:3 biological waste to mixed waste so allocate containers accordingly. Within the city only hospitals create hazardous waste and nobody creates aluminum waste.
Build the small party headquarters to start, then the large technical university. You'll need the numbers for faster education and faster tech tree climbing.
Import 3rd world immigrants once you have a minimum educated base to staff your schools. They're way cheaper. Quality housing > dense housing. Dense is great but dense and poor quality = high resource intake and low productivity. Densify in your second city, or rework.
Monuments only get your to 40% loyalty so don't lose your mind on it.
Water and Power
Redundant and parallel. Every time you place a transformer, place a high six way high voltage splitter with it. You will branch your power network to more places over time and need to reroute wires which you can only do while online with open switch ports. Never use the last switch port without building another chained switch.
Similarly, always branch your water and sewer. Unfortunately you can’t have multiple inputs to a line, but you can at least make sure that you can keep branching until the upstream has nothing left to give. Pay attention to pressure. Build the large water tower to supply the town.
Intake water quality is key. Your wells must be placed where pollution won’t reach. Industry should be fed directly from a well so you’re not spending chemicals purifying water. The more polluted the water is, the more chemicals you’ll have to spend to clean it up and that gets expensive very quickly.
Treating wastewater gives a massive reduction in pollution but also takes an expensive amount of chemicals. Best to put your outlet far away if possible instead of trying to treat the water. Drop a sewer switch (remember, always an empty outlet on every switch for infra changes!) before the outlet in case you change your mind.
Roads
Vehicles use the same amount of fuel as long as they’re in motion. If your vehicle top speed is a fraction of your road speed, you’re wasting money. Road stretches of ~500 meters need to be paved and should probably be divided highways. Tight industrial roads with lots of turns can be gravel because you won’t accelerate much anyway. Panel roads are also pretty good as intermediates here. If you’ve got advanced roads on, make sure to set give ways at every highway intersection or your vehicles will drop down to 50 km/h at every one.
Your center of town road probably gets congested and you can help that by banning heavy goods vehicles except supply.
Industry
Focus around one large long warehouse with a train connection at the end and factories directly connected around the warehouse. Central warehouse should have:
Food factory Fabric factory 2x Clothing factory Chemical factory (possibly 2x) Livestock farm
The livestock farm is a bit of a wildcard. It consumes a lot of water and generates a lot of wastewater. Plan for this and consider whether it should be located near your farm or near your factory. I lean towards keeping it with the factory for the sake of concentrating your workforce on one high-throughput passenger line.
Mining
Steel is my highest cost and getting to a steel mill that runs even at 5% of capacity seems highly worthwhile. Find coal, colocate with coal mining, attach to train line. Attach transfer to large waste and manage as needed. General separation on site may be reasonable.
Farms
Grow locally. Farms are basically the one thing that doesn’t require people to produce profit or at least reduce cost. As the input to one of your early money makers (clothing)
Economy
Clothing is a top export and accessible early which is key. Build for it, use your own crops, and fill in the rest of the supply chain as you can (chemical plant). Same for steel after some time: find the iron, move it over… but start with making the plant run even with imports.
The republic runs on steel. Want to move something efficiently? You need rails and steel. Want to store it? More steel. More efficient building or process? Going to take steel.
Find coal, make steel. When you have steel, get the radio station going. Yeah, that's not an industry but the productivity boost from loyalty boost is huge.
Now that you have clothing and steel going, make a refinery.
From this point, find the most expensive import and produce it locally until the most expensive doesn’t matter. From there, climb the tech tree into autos and nuclear power. Expand to new cities.

Hello everyone, I rarely post here since I usually agree with the general consensus for weight loss and advice shared in this sub, and feel like I don’t usually have anything additional to input, but idk why I just want to share my progress now at the 80 pound mark. I started my weight loss journey back in August when I quit drinking alcohol. I was a daily drinker since I was 23 or so, and turned 32 in August, I felt like alcohol was controlled my daily life and my habits. Plus I loved craft beer and that whole lifestyle was one of the key factors in me ballooning up to 362 lbs. I’m a 6’5” male, and I started to look like a sumo wrestler. I have two little kids and a beautiful wife and I just felt like I was dragging them down with my weight. Doing activities was really hard, the stress on my body and cardiovascular system just really limited what I could do with them. I said enough was enough. In my mind I was like “I’m only 32, I still have some of the best years of my life left to be at my physical peak and prime, yet here I am looking like I need a scooter to get around Disneyland.” So I quit drinking started back at my local big box gym, lifting weights mostly and occasionally doing cardio. I downloaded my fitness pal, calculated my tdee and bought a new scale. I was usually in a 1000 calorie deficit while prioritizing protein but not limiting carbs or any food groups. During holidays, eating out, and other events I’d still track but just estimated my calories for the foods using my best guess. I lost the first half of my weight in probably the first couple months, but it’s slowed a bit, which is totally fine. I haven’t really adjusted my calories because as long as I’m still losing, I don’t see the need. My goal is to eventually get to the 250s and then maybe even 230s, but I’m in no hurry. I love my new body, everything is better in a smaller size. I can walk around stores without feeling a sense of dread if I see stairs or other physically demanding obstacles. I look good in pictures again, and my wife is very happy in bed if you know what I mean. All in all, I feel like I lost the weight in the most sustainable way compared to other times in my life. Not eliminating food groups and tracking calories with a food scale is like a cheat code, I rarely feel hungry or like I’m being restricted. CICO really is all that it boils down to!

Hi all, first time posting here. I'm looking to build a new PC for the first time since the early 2010s! I was hoping someone could give my list a once over before I pull the trigger!
I am intending to use the PC to play a variety of games at 4k, close to max settings. I also looking to use this PC for sim racing, potentially with a triple monitor setup or a VR setup (Meta Quest 3). In sim racing especially, frame rates of 144+ are required.
I am a software developer and may use the PC to work on personal projects, which may include things like game dev, web dev, generative AI (image generation, etc.), etc.
The current build is coming in at ~3300$ but wouldn't mind saving a few bucks on similar performance or spending a few more dollars for parts that may be more reliable or that will punch above their weight.
I am going for an all black aesthetic, and trying to avoid RGB. I also placed a bit of an emphasis on quiet operation, though did want to avoid water cooling. (too scary lol)
I am purchasing the PC in Canada and would like to bundle my purchase into fewer orders if possible (will order from a separate reliable vendor if the savings are significant. So far most of my purchase will come from amazon and newegg.

So long story short, I lost the motherboard for my key fob. I have only one key, so I am going to need to get a new key if I want to start my car. I heard of someone in the community that reprograms keys for you for cheaper than the dealership. Is anyone familiar with this process?
Do I need to order a blank key on Ebay? should I take out the motherboard to the Ebay key and put it in my already cut key? Should I get the Ebay key cut? Should I get multiple keys while I’m doing it anyway?
Any insight on any of this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I do not want to type out the command every single time on 200+ devices and want to know if I can make a USB with the command in it that I can click and execute to run the command.
I would be very grateful if I could have someone help me learn how to do this, thank you.

Just did three attempts at silo vault with some friends. One of them is even newer than me, so I wanted to get him the gear. I went in with Kyrtek gear and an AK-Alpha, we were all decently kitted. I was face checking for my buds, swatted two guys for them. The second one ran in on us while I was covering the other entrance and the others were just re-entering the room, so they go merced. I go to grab my more experienced bud's Ragnar to load their guns into it, so I can give them back to them later. Bag starts spinning. After nearly 10 minutes of trying to tame the bag, a guy runs in on me. He didn't see me at first, so I swung him and shot first, all good hits. Somehow, he traded me with a basic L85, and no armor. No headshot was on the death report.
Second run, we kit out again, though not nearly as spicy. Got my NVG on, having a blast. We merc a guy going into boss room, we wait it out and have the map to ourselves. I crash. My friends pick up my key card and gear, and go to leave. The new friend bugs out and falls to his death down the elevator shaft. Experienced bud makes it out with whatever of our gear he can salvage.
Run three, we load into...Island?? I hit silo, and it said silo on my computer, but the map was Island. Needless to say, woefully unprepared for an island run, we're forced to have a last stand at radio tower. 3v2, but the two got the jump on my newer friend and took him out early. I'm trying to engage the one guy who was suppressing us from the hills, he gets a lucky headshot on me. How do I know it was luck? Because I had repositioned and only one round fired at me before death.
Two losses to bugs, one to also a bug but partially just gunfighting luck? Idk, just felt like sharing my story lol

Yesterday I replaced the battery in our 2012 X5 u35i.
I have updated and registered the new battery using both bimmerlink and bimmercode.
I was able to start it and have it idle for 5 or so minutes, but when trying to move it, it shut down after 20 feet.
Tried to restart it and it would crank no start.
Cycled the key, and now it will start and idle for 2 seconds, then shut off again.
I checked the codes, cleared them, tried again, and same result.
Now the only stored code is in Engine electronics - 2F44.
"Information: 0x2f44 ignition circuit, supply voltage: bank failure or motor failure"
Researching and it may be the DME has to be reset as it lost the rolling codes between it and the control module?*
I tried doing a relearn / re-register - open trunk, let car go to sleep(15 minutes), remove negative, let it sit another 15 minutes, connect again. Let it sit for a few minutes, then a few more with the key in the ignition, then try to start it - same result as before, crank start, 1 second later dies. Then crank no start until key cycle.
Has anyone run into this before, and if so, is bimmercode able to reset whatever parameter is needed if it isnt a fuse? If not, is it probable that only a tow to a dealer that would fix this?

I'm reaching my first month this week and I don't feel 100% operational and efficient. How long does it usually take for you to be okay?

For reference, I will be playing some light minecraft with shaders, some 1080p video editing, media consumption, etc. I wanted to go down the route of getting a pre-built but still want the experience of building my own PC.
The RX 580 seems compelling at just a hundred bucks and would be just fine for my use cases but is there any other good value card or overall build for under $500 (this price has to include the windows key, the parts themselves, and a 1080p monitor). Hi! My family has owned a quaint roadside motel in Florida for many decades, with 35 rooms and a small crew of employees. I am the third generation, but only recently involved with this property, so please forgive if I sound like a noob. We are property owners, not hotel operators, however there happened to be a motel on this property and in this one case we have always owned the motel business and managed it from afar.
First Question: I am looking for a background check company that does not have a minimum annual number of checks, whose level 2 checks are specific to Miya's Law. Recommendations, or at least point me in the right direction? (I'm new to the group, I hope that question does not fall under "market research." Don't ban me!) We haven't hired anyone new in a while, so the news of the passing of Miya's Law in the state of FL sort of came and went, also the entire ownership family lives out of state so we definitely missed the memo about the new law. We suddenly had to hire 3 new employees recently and we have to run Level 2 background checks on them to be compliant with the new law. We only have a handful of employees, and I can't foresee having to run more than 2-3 background checks per year.
Second question: Does anyone have a link or a shareable form for applicants/employees to use to sign for informed consent to run a background check? I have spent all day scouring every corner of the internet and coming up empty. There has to be SOMETHING. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Third question: Miya's law also requires key logs. We are a small motel with actual keys to the doors. We have one housekeeper who obviously enters rooms all the time, and we have one maintenance worker who enters rooms only as needed which is not often, and then we have a few front desk workers who have access to all the keys but do not go in rooms. What's the best way, in actual practice, to have a key log that isn't a burden on the employees? If it's easy to log, then they'll be most likely to keep doing it, right?

I’m closing on my first AirBnB property next Friday. The current owner has been operating it since March of last year and provided all financials including complete overhead such as utilities, cleaning, Ring subscription, etc. The money is right and the property is conveniently located next door to my father. This was all my happenstance and let me even further to believe this was somewhat fate. The only reason the owner is selling is that she now lives 40 minutes away and no longer works in this town. She has found another property in her new hometown and is already in the middle of purchasing it as well. I know her son very well and he was my real estate agent on my primary home.
I’m trying to think of ways to better serve my guests and make their overall experience above expectations. The previous owner converted her father’s house after his passing and many of items of the home were his. I’m buying turn key with all possessions as well.
I’m planning on buying all new towels that match (far more than enough to help if I need to just take the dirty with me in a hurry), the same with sheets.
I intend on going through the entire kitchen to determine what else might be needed as far too often when I stay in a short term rental I’m left with a pile of junk to work with.
I’ve also stayed at properties that had little goodie baskets ready with bags of popcorn, a few snacks, etc.
I’m also planning on putting in a desk with a three monitor remote work station with a dock so that I can work from there on days I need to clean in the week and not interrupt my day outside of normal hours while still adding that additional amenity for the property overall.
I’m planning on having quiet a bit of extra things on hand for babies since I have a two year old and can easily take the playpen down there now that it’s not in use and just other things that might help parents on the road.

I got a new job and I'm expected to be within commuting distance of a NYC. Like many people, I found a rental in NJ across the river. It's in one of those typical high rises that are managed by some corporation. I have a long history of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and complex PTSD (C-PTSD). This has been documented numerous times in the past. Right after moving, I got attacked no too far from the building, and that terrorized me. My employer accepted letting me work remotely for a while and so I went back to stay with family in CT in the meantime until I can get this figured out. I got a police report for the attack, and I sought mental health services. Unfortunately, I'm still required to come back to the office on occasion, and particularly, if it is on short notice, my best option is that building. I've been trying to work on it, but once I'm back, I remember the incident, triggering my GAD and C-PTSD and I'm absolutely terrified.
I tried to call multiple lawyers in the entire state, but most of them just frankly told me they didn't really have awareness of the Fair Housing Act (FHA) and frankly most of them admitted representing landlords primarily.
The property management absolutely refuses to consider any early lease termination options or any amicable buy-out options. They said the best they can suggest is paying up the remainder of the lease to move out. That's a bit much. They won't look into any other options. In fact, they even said they will not take the keys back, which very much surprised me.
I've continued to pay rent so far and did not breach any lease term except for abandoning the unit, which the Landlord specified to purposely decided not to enforce. They clearly seem to only care for my money no matter what, and the matter of my well-being is of no importance. They're giving me non-sense about being advised about the safety in the area, but I mentioned it's not entirely different matter because I did not say I'm trying to break the lease for safety issues. Basically my fiancee and I live in a shared living space. A duplex if u will. Tbh it's a trailer with an addition. Both spaces have a bedroom and a living room with shared kitchen. Possibly a shared bathroom but It wasn't part of the original agreement.
So our old "roommate" a crackhead who stole a lot from us. Finally got kicked out after a year + of not paying. She let him stay so long bc we where paying. Rediculous in my mind but that's beside the point rn.
The landlord wanted to "remodel" a lot of stuff when he moved out 2 months ago. She didn't do anything for the first month and a half. A few days ago she says our new roomie is moving in this Thursday. And she's been trying to "redo" it all in the 11 days. She's been very irregular in providing notice often telling us at 7-10pm that's she or her "handyman" will be here at 8am. Only once have we denied entry bc of lack of notice. The real issue is that she's wanting us to let the handyman in before we leave for our jobs. Leaving him here with all our stuff and free access to all but the locked bedroom (pets I don't want to be lost)
Today we had to leave a key out for him to come in at 8 am while we slept. (we both work nights and this was the easiest solution) so he came in at 8am. Around 9am the landlady came in to (save money and paint herself) w.e. it's our day off so we slept till 4pm to make up sleep. At 2pm she left and texts my man that the handyman will be working a bit longer to get some stuff done bc she's pressed for time (why'd u wait a month before doing anything. And set a date for the new tenant if u weren't ready??) at 7pm we called and asked her how much longer he was going to be working. He's hammering all day. And the paint thinner is so strong in the house I threw up as soon as I woke up. Both of us have headaches. No windows open or anything. Anyway at 7 she says she'll talk to him. My man left the room (we've been hiding from the smell) and heard him answer the phone and talk to her.... And 45 min later he's still working with no sign of stopping. So my man goes and asks him.dudes A little rude says the landlord never called and is mad. Whatever. He finally leaves at 8pm.
Also I'd like to mention the handyman had his woman helping him (fine) and his two young children in the car. They keep going in and out of our house to talk to Mom and dad. (Not fine)

First of all i know AMD has great cards for this range like the 6700XT but they are more suited for gaming than for 3D rendering so i don't think i should get an AMD card as most of the software especially and most importantly blender isn't optimized for AMD cards..... otherwise if not for that i would have just bought a 6700XT, unless i'm wrong of course but as far as i know blender is supposed to work best with Nvidia's CUDA cores.
My budget is 400$ .... so should i get an old but mighty 2080TI with 356bit memory bus and 11gb vram, or a new but weaker and lesser vram 4060/3060/3070 ? Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Which effectively means, one must pick an answer to a clue one is fairly certain of, and use that as one might use a jigsaw piece to solve the next clue that connects to it.
For any interested, I share my opinion on what the key strands of clue clusters and the twisted threads therein that I believe need to be woven together into a narrative to form an origin story for Fromland and solve the show.
1. The first strand is historical figures from North American history (and the end of the War of the Roses), falling roughly on the dates on Tabitha's dream sequence. Some historical figures are given far more clues than others, suggesting they might later become characters on the show. In particular Caroline Dye's hoodoo magic, and Alma Hayes the strongwoman.
There are six threads in there as not every timeline will be explored in the series - the main ones are 1930s, 1880s, 1860s, 1770s, 1670s, and 1498.
1498 is by far the most prevalent and perhaps the easiest to start with. Most are from England and to a lesser extent, Italy/Venice, Scotland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, Burgundy, China, Iran, Iceland, Greenland/Newfoundland. It's also the best one to solve first, as the historical figures in the 1498 origin story are the archetypes that the historical figures in the other timelines mimic.
For example, I'm absolutely certain one is Richard Amerike - Sheriff of Bristol. There is a lawman/sheriff in every timeline - Boyd is the sheriff now.
Each new historical figure discovered in any timeline is a great puzzle piece. If you find out Emmett Kelly, the Hobo Clown is in the 1930s timeline, you can search for other "clowns" and discover Triboulet, the court jester in the 1498 origin story.

Let's look at Kelly's head spiked to a tree with Boyd yanking it out instead of using the gun. The reasoning was: Kristi did not want Kelly to see or experience the gun, when Kelly is currently blind and the gun is a far better "experience" than the yanking. I contend this is quite a pointed clue that he's recreating a scene in the original timeline. In my opinion, a botched execution by a crossbow at a time where there were no guns to use.
There are threads within this strand. Two are practically strands of their own, with witch trial and torture methods and christmas / lent traditions from the countries of the various historical figures being the most prevalent. The traditions bit is a lot easier if you solve the origin story characters first, since you can then surmise which countries the traditions to look out for might come from.
3. The third strand is the mythology of the show. Ultimately, if one assumes North East Canada is where it all begins, you might make the leap it relates to the mythology related to that area. This has two main threads, the bogeyman, and the fairies. What I came to find were, there were clues pointing to practically every kind of bogeyman and fairy legend in that region. I was wondering if these were red herrings, or maybe it was all of them at once? It took me a long time to figure out what we're being asked to do here - but I figure there are 7 bogeymen and 4 fairy types the monsters and entity are mimicking, and a type of bogeyman and fairy that they really are.
4. Apotropaic magic - specific to the cunning folk of England. Witch's bottles and ladders, that sort of thing.
5. Medieval board and card games, as well as a few other adult medieval games, like stoolball. Main thread here is French tarot cards, but not their witchy meanings and connection to fortune telling, just the playing cards and what they look like. Other substantial threads involve Game of Goose and Pachisi.
