2024.05.15 22:00 Over-Improvement5603 Code 4 problem

Okay guys I have a major problem. Ive scoured the forums but nothing has solved my issue so far. Car is a 1990 Civic Hatch, d15b2. I manual swapped it, but now I'm having a problem with this random code 4. When I originally did the swap, I used a manual ECU but it was throwing a code 4 code 9(I think) and another code, basically all distributor codes. I swapped back to my auto ECU and it ran great for about 2 months and now it's throwing a code 4 and runs like shit and dies/stalls. Surprisingly, if I used my auto ECU it doesn't die but still runs like shit and won't accept any throttle. Pretty much chokes if I give it gas. I assumed it to be my distributor since code 4 is the Crank Angle Sensor. Replaced it with a new Cardone distributor and the same issue. It's honestly even worse now. I've checked resistance between the d and e terminals, and they measure 350 so it's within spec(350-500ohms) and I've checked continuity to body ground and there was not on either terminal. I checkwd the wiring at the ECU and they measure 350 as well, with no continuity to ground. I've tried both my ecu's but neither of them fix the issue. I did notice while I was inspecting the wiring, the orange wire on the distributor(crank angle wire) was coming loose whenever i plugged it into the harness, so I held it in place while I plugged it in to make sure it was tight and still no change. Could my ignition timing cause the rough idle and stall/code 4? Bad fuel filter? Fuel pump? Car has new plugs and wires, new distributor, new alternator, new battery. Also cleaned the IACV and there was a ton of carbon, but that still didn't fix my problem. Id just assume I had a bad dizzy but the problem was there even with my old own one. And it didn't happen suddenly. At first it would crank and die, and id have to crank it a few times to get it to stay running, and then it started to die on me while driving, now it qont even leave the driveway because It dies withing 20 seconds. I've also swapped three working main relays and that did not help. Any help is greatly appreciated, I've scoured the forums and Facebook groups and no one can seem to pinpoint my issue.

2024.05.15 20:07 WTF_Conservatives In defense of the slowest new car you can buy: Why the Mirage is the ultimate zombie apocalypse car.

I gotta say as a proud owner of the Mirage (which my daughter named "baby beast"), I was offended by all the shit talking in that other thread.
The Mirage isn't powerful. It isnt pretty. It won't get you the ladies. There's no argument on these points.
But if there were ever a zombie apocalypse or SHTF situation you will want to ditch your Ford raptors, jeeps and hummers. Because the Mirage is the best car you can have.
Fuel efficiency. There is no other car out there that gets the kind of fuel efficiency the mirage gets without being bogged down by the electrical problems or complications that come from hybrids or electric cars. And in a SHTF situation, gas will not be easy to come by. The Mirage can simply get you farther away from danger on less fuel than most cars.
Easy repairs. The Mirage is one of the only cars that you can still fix just about everything on with just a set of hand tools. It has a cable clutch. It has a freaking distributor. I'm pretty sure the most powerful computer it has is its clock. If something goes down on it... all you need is a few simple hand tools and some duct take and it will get you at least a few hundred miles away from zombies. Which you likely won't need to do because:
Reliability. The Mirage is insanely reliable. All of the parts on it were meant to be on cars that have between 120 and 200 horsepower. This little beast rocks just 74 horsepower. You routinely see Mirage with 250,000 miles on them without needing major repairs. There are a few out there with half a million miles on them. And if something goes wrong? All good because of point two.
Room for storage. The Mirage is deceptively roomy. I've taken my daughter on week long camping trips in it and we've never had an issue. We've just had to be creative. You can fit all of the zombie weapons you could need in it just fine... and still fit two or three people in it.
No one wants it.. So you think a badass Jeep with all the bells and whistles is the best vehicle for zombies or SHTF? Well guess what? So does everyone else. That makes you a target. And the second you close your eyes, someone may jack your shit. But nobody wants a Mirage in a situation like this. Only those of us who are enlightened.
Now I know what you are thinking.... but it can't go off road! And you are right. But neither can any other vehicle in a zombie apocalypse. Because it doesn't matter how high your truck is lifted or how many accessories you have on your Jeep. Anyone who has off roaded knows it causes problems for your vehicle.
That's it. I just want to throw it out there that the next time you see a guy driving a mirage... maybe do t laugh at him. Because when SHTF... you just may need him.

2024.05.15 14:49 Save_Our_Bluths__ 2001 CR-V LX with 113k miles for $6k and maintenance records. Any red flags?

Have been looking for a 1st gen CR-V. Stumbled across an '01 at a dealership that only has 113k miles, owned within the same family. (Grandparents originally purchased and drove, passed down to mom, passed down to daughter who recently traded in for something newer). Timing belt replaced around 100k.
Took it for a test drive--the A/C only turned on when dialed up to full force. Is this a known issue with the older CR-Vs?
CarFax history shows the following. Wondering if any of this is concerning. (Don't know anything about mechanical repairs, what's standard v. not).
Called the mechanic it was regularly serviced at, the former owner did all repairs ever recommended.
108k - exhaust pipe, exhaust pipe seal, and stabilizer bar links replaced 104k - blower motor replaced/repaired, blower motor resistor replaced 96k - drive belts replaced, cylinder head gasket(s) replaced, water pump replaced, timing belt replaced 94k - spark plugs and spark plug wires replaced, distributor assembly replaced/repaired
Any help appreciated!

2024.05.15 02:44 thehatstore42069 DRAKES UNCLE STEVE LINKED??? (IDK WHAT THIS MEANS BUT COULD BE IMPORTANT)

Search for Steve on various channels reveals that this is Stephen sher, as revealed in a nike collab back in 2023. Steve is the brother of Drake's Mom
https://www.nike.com/launch/t/nocta-golf-apparel-collection-fa21
Only one result really comes up for Stephen sher when looking in canada, linking him to two patents, as well as a company called Jupiter Industries.
The two patents are for a front facing car seat for babies/young children and a device for a crib that holds the baby in place to prevent rolling. These were filed back in 2002.
https://patents.justia.com/inventostephen-sher
Jupiter industries happens to be Canada's only manufacturer of mattresses for cribs. These are made on behalf of BeautyRest and Simmons Mattress.
Looking at the wayback machine, however, it appears that back in 2002, they were making carseats called the Krazy Kruiser, as well as mattresses. There is also a linkedin page for Stephen sher stating he is the CEO of Jupiter Industries. At some point they also had added pet products to their lineup... presumably around 2003
The two employees publically listed on linkedin for Jupiter industries both list their previous job at Amazon Playground, an indoor playground in Toronto that is now closed. It was like a stripmall play place for little kids. I only mention bc it is kind of odd to me that multiple people from there ended up in different roles here.
All information about domain owners has been redacted/removed from the public database so I could not find any info about who owns the building or anything.
Looking into the company, it is basically a warehouse hidden away. You cant get any good angles of the building from google maps, but you are able to see inside on some twitter posts, showing they have an office with customer service and the like. It seems like a legitimate business, however the IG is weird. There are very few posts and even fewer comments, and all the comments are from foreigners from overseas looking to "collab" and stating they sent a DM. The only real comment I saw however was interesting. It is a woman saying she was unable to get a hold of anyone at the company. I also have noticed none of their products have any reviews anywhere they are sold. They are listed at various Canadian websites but it doesn't look like anyone has actually purchased them. Maybe I am wrong.
HOLY SHIT!!! EXCERPT FROM OCT 13 2007 "About the Company" for Jupiter Industries:
our company Jupiter started in Toronto in 1981 when the CEO was asked by his father Reuben Sher to pioneer a new sleep product for his grandchildren. The result was the first dust mite resistant mattress ever made. Being ahead of our time has always been and still is the basic principle in our company. Innovative products with purpose is now our mandate.
A period of rapid growth followed from our first entry product as the company expanded into a full range of crib mattresses. Since that time Jupiter has become Canada’s #1 crib mattress manufacturer.
In 2000, Jupiter continued to grow by acquiring the Simmons license for baby crib mattresses. This brand is synonymous with on going quality and product development.
Because of the CEO’s passionate link to animals and his quest for making innovative products the company has recently embarked on the manufacturing of a revolutionary new sleep product for pets... the Woof-A-Pedic.
The company has complimented this new category with the addition of Petstages, an innovative new line of pet toys. Jupiter is the exclusive distributor in Canada for this brand, which has realized tremendous growth. The brand was developed by animal behaviorists and psychologists to create the first of it’s kind developmental pet toys that address specific animal behaviors.
https://web.archive.org/web/20090416184520/http://www.jupiterindustries.com/company.html
Drakes Grandpa is Reuben!!!
NOTE: The about the company section was removed in April of 2009. Drake's first mixtape was released in Feb 2009
Petstages did not seem to have any useful info other than the fact they specialized in controlling pet behavior, but an interesting note. Steve said in the Woof-a-pedic about section that he had 5 dogs, one of which is a german shepard named ruby. Since drake's dog is named diamond I wonder if that is a homage.
We have proven Drake's Uncle started all of these businesses.... related to dogs and babies...... specifically patents for the restraint of babies...... and the behavioral control of dogs.........coincidence?
Drake actually had an entire company founded so he could sleep well at night. Before this dude was even born. But why? Why would Reuben ask his son to make this company himself?

What To Know Before Going Into A Store And Buying A GPS Device

When buying a real time GPS tracker, there are several things you should look for to ensure you get the right product for your needs. Here are some factors to consider:
  • Real-time tracking: The GPS tracker should provide real-time location information so you can monitor the vehicle, loved ones, or pets in real-time.
  • Mobile applications: Look for a real time tracking device that comes with a mobile application, so you can easily track the location from your smartphone or tablet.
  • Web portal: A web portal will allow you to track the location from any computer with internet access.
  • Battery life: Look for a GPS tracker with long battery life, ideally around a month so that you don't have to keep recharging it.
  • Panic button: A panic button can be helpful in an emergency situation, such as a carjacking or medical emergency, so that you can alert authorities to your location.
  • Speed alerts: Speed alerts can help you monitor driving habits and receive notifications if the vehicle exceeds a certain speed limit.
  • Fleet management: If you need to track multiple vehicles, fleet management capabilities can be very useful.
  • Mini portable: If you need to track something small, like a pet or personal item, a mini portable GPS tracker would be a good option.
  • Teen drivers: If you're purchasing a real time GPS tracking device for a teenage driver, consider a system with speed alerts to help monitor their driving habits.
  • Mini GPS: If you need a small GPS tracker, consider a mini GPS device that can be easily attached to a pet collar, personal item, or vehicle.

What Store Sells GPS Trackers For Cars - Where You Should Buy

For those interested in buying A GPS car tracker, and who are wondering what store sells GPS trackers the answer is Tracking System Direct. Tracking System Direct has spent years offering small businesses, private investigators, police agencies, and everyday online shoppers the most advanced hidden GPS tracker solutions the industry has had to offer. With tens of thousands of GPS trackers for cars sold to date, Tracking System Direct has established itself as a leader in the GPS industry.
One of the most popular security products on the market right now is GPS trackers. The reason for this is because of several factors including:
  1. The Economy: businesses can no longer afford to lose profit through internal wasteful habits such as poor route management, or employee misuse of company automobiles.
  2. Safety Awareness: more families are informed and now understand how GPS vehicle tracking systems can help improve the driving conduct of teenagers and seniors.
  3. Cheating Spouse: people who suspect a spouse might be unfaithful and want to utilize GPS technology to uncover the truth.
Although there are a vast amount of reasons why the public purchases GPS vehicle management technology, one thing people interested in investing in GPS systems discover is that GPS products are not as easy to find as one would think. This is because most retail outlets choose not to hold stock and offer surveillance devices, forcing consumers to seek out spy shops that specialize in sleuth gear. The only problem is that spy shops are simply not commonly found in most small and mid-sized cities and can sometimes not exist in larger metropolitan regions. Although finding a reputable GPS dealer can be challenging, the World Wide Web makes the process much easier.

Online GPS Tracker Purchase - Why eBay & Amazon Aren't Your Best Places To Buy

When it comes to purchasing a GPS tracker, eBay or Amazon may not be the best place to start. While they might offer good pricing and many choices when it comes to GPS tracking devices, post-sales support matters. Many real time GPS trackers sold on eBay or Amazon are poorly manufactured, refurbished, and often come from untrustworthy resellers. That means the real time GPS tracking device you buy there might not work. Not to mention, the GPS device could have hidden costs like monthly subscription fees. To avoid getting ripped off, it's best to conduct an online search for reputable suppliers.
Here are some tips on how to find a reputable supplier:
  • Conduct an online search on YouTube for "magnetic GPS trackers" or "GPS trackers for cheating spouses".
  • Choose a top organic link and check the company's corporate or e-commerce website to ensure they are a reputable business.
  • Look for a valid company email address, working phone number, and professional website to ensure good customer support and quality products.
  • Spend some time researching before investing in a GPS tracker, especially if the product is more than $100.
  • Look at review sites such as GPSTrackerReviews.net
  • Go for a reputable and established company that can provide technical support, sales assistance, and a substantial warranty of the product (one year).
  • Avoid websites with too many advertisements, poor structure, and an overall unprofessional-looking website.
  • Reputable companies such as Tracking System Direct offer free shipping on all GPS hardware

GPS Tracker For Car Walmart In Store

Can I go into Walmart and buy a GPS tracker for car? The answer is maybe, but many retail stores do not offer the best price when it comes to hidden GPS trackers for cars. Why take the risk of going in-store to Walmart with no guarantee a vehicle tracking device will be available, let alone a wide variety of options to choose from when it comes to GPS trackers? Then don't forget if you need technical support a Walmart employee won't be able to provide the same level of quality customer care as a specialty spy store such as Tracking System Direct could. This is the reason consumers or businesses should avoid purchasing GPS trackers for cars in Walmart in-store, and instead choose a store that specializes in GPS tracking technology.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Best Buy Sell GPS Trackers?

Yes! Best Buy has a great reputation and does offer a small selection of GPS tracking devices for purchase. However, Best Buy does not provide technical support for any real time GPS tracker they carry, which means the consumer will need to contact the manufacturer. Not to mention, it is usually more affordable to purchase any real time GPS locator directly from the manufacturer, reseller, or distributor, as the margins are lower by cutting out Best Buy.

Where Can I Buy A GPS Tracker For My Car?

You can buy GPS trackers for your car from various stores, including Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart. You can also find them at specialty stores that sell car accessories.

What Should I Look For When Buying Magnetic GPS Trackers For For My Car?

When buying a GPS tracker for your car, you should look for features like real-time tracking, speed alerts, panic buttons, and long battery life. You should also consider the size and design of the tracker to ensure it fits well in your car.

2024.05.14 18:57 Wheat9546 Integra Problems: Dying while attempting to give gas in drive

To make a long story short. And to avoid long rambles cause I have issues with that.
ITEMS REPLACED: ICM/Ignition Coil, Spark Plugs, Spark Wires, Cap and Rotor, Battery ITEMS REUSED: Old/Stock Distributor
1: Car while ago, died while at idle when driving/parking. One incident tried putting car into reverse, immediately died.
1-2: Decided to research, all symptoms possibly pointed towards ICM/Ignition coil being dead, know this is probably the problem due to the fact previous ownemyself never changed most things. Decide this is the issue.
1-3: While obtaining parts for ICM/Ignition Coil, TOOK off the Distributor for easier fixing. Within the the OLD ICM/Ignition coil, ground nut is completely seized/ cannot remove the nut, Decide to cut the ground wire and create a new wire by simply adding onto the wire itself, used solder and soldered it together, not half-assing it. Add a spade connector and crimp at end and use screw to connect.
1-4: Install NEW ICM/Ignition coil, everything seems to work. Get small "misfires" HOWEVER AT, THIS TIME did not know it was misfires, simply thought it was the system getting used to the new parts. Car doesn't die anymore while at slow speeds.
1-5: Over the course of driving 2 weeks or so, idle is extremely rough at red lights/braking, feels like it's trying to lurch forward > NO PROBLEM of this type occurred before with OLD ICM/Ignition COIL. Problem is worse when using AC, which makes the RPM go up and down rapidly and car feels like stalling out. No "Lurching forward" issue while actually driving at normal speeds.
1-6: further research shows that removing the distributor can mess with ignition timing, decide to manually, just move it perhaps my marker mark was off or something. Issue still persists, realize at this point the "LURCHING FORWARD symptom at idle/stop lights" = MISFIRES.
1-7: Car completely dies, while attempting to give gas while trying to leave home. Park it, starts fine, give gas revs completely fine no issues or any funky sound at all. PUT INTO DRIVE AND GIVE GAS = Car Sputtering out and dying.

2024.05.14 05:10 TooDanBad Firebird Won’t start.. mostly

So today I wanted to move the Firebird into the driveway to start work on it. The guttedriveway has a deep slope, so there’s no way I pushing it in neutral. Due to work, life and weather, I wasn’t able to drive it for 3 weeks. I am the Nth owner and the previous owner got it running - it still needs a lot of work. I’ve made other posts in this forum and the transam before.
For the first time, today, again - after weeks of sitting - it wouldn’t start. I released the distributor cap and cleaned it, I put gas in the tank (5 gallons, and it was full after), I checked the fluids, and I used some starter spray. I also bought a Viking battery charger. The charger read 60% when charging, and didn’t change, but when I checked it later it read 90% (I had to first turn it off and turn it on again).
As shown in the video, after charging a bit and using the spray; no problem. I ran it for a couple minutes, but think I should have ran it longer. However, I had to close the hood and it stalled out (this has been a problem since before I bought it.) when I tried to start it a second time, the clicking sound occurred as shown in the second video.
With my Novice car experience, my guess is a bad battery. However, always ask for outside opinions. Any of you folks have some suggestions? I know it’s not much to see what I’ve written when it’s better to see in person. Thanks.

The sources said that BigCommerce asked investment bank Qatalyst Partners to solicit interest from potential buyers that include private equity firms, but that the discussions are at an early stage and no deal is certain.
___
Squarespace announced that it will be going private in a $6.9B all-cash deal with private-equity firm Permira, who agreed to pay $44 per share (a roughly 30% premium). Although Squarespace never lost 90% of its share price like BigCommerce, it has experienced a tumultuous time on the market since its IPO in May 2021 — opening around $49.50 and at times trading in the low $20s. Shares rose nearly 13% to $43 in pre-market trading upon release of the news.
___
ByteDance filed a lawsuit in US federal court seeking to block the new law that would force the sale or ban of the app within the country. The lawsuit challenges the law on constitutional grounds, also citing commercial, technical, and legal hurdles, as well as opposition from Beijing. Legal experts say the legal battle will play out in the courts in coming months and likely will reach the Supreme Court.
___
OpenAI unveiled its newest model, GPT-4o, designed to turn ChatGPT into a digital personal assistant that can engage in real-time, spoken conversations and interact with users using text, screenshots, photos, documents, and charts. The new version of ChatGPT also has memory capabilities, which means it can learn from previous conversations. It will be available to both unpaid and premium customers alike. OpenAI also announced that it would be launching a desktop app with the GPT-4o capabilities, giving users another platform to interact with the technology outside of a web browser.
___
Amazon launched in South Africa last week, marking its first marketplace in sub-Saharan Africa, and bringing its total number of marketplaces worldwide to 22. To launch the new marketplace, Amazon is offering free delivery on first orders and on subsequent orders above R500 (about $27), access to 3,000 pick-up points, status updates via WhatsApp to track orders, 30 day refunds, and 24/7 customer support. The marketplace was supposed to launch in the country in 2023, but got delayed due to changes in priorities within Amazon.
___
In an unlikely partnership, Instacart is partnering with Uber Eats to expand into the restaurant delivery business. Instacart will add a new tab for restaurant delivery to its app in the coming weeks, the listings will be provided by Uber, and the food will be picked up and delivered by Uber Eats drivers. Customers will receive the same prices on both apps and Instacart will receive an affiliate commission on orders. It's a strange partnership though given that Instacart and Uber Eats actively compete on grocery delivery. Are they planning to merge? Uber says no.
___
Apple's advertisement for its latest iPad Pro sparked criticism for showing an animation of musical instruments, paint cans, cameras, record players, and other symbols of creativity being crushed by a giant machine, with the output being the new iPad Pro, which the company says is the thinnest Apple product ever. In this context, “crushing” was supposed to symbolize “consolidating” and “compacting” — with the visuals meant to showcase how the new iPad Pro puts the power of all these tools into the hands of creators in one thin device. However online commenters criticized the ad as insensitive and as symbolizing a “destruction of the human experience.” The ad hit the web on Tuesday, and by Thursday, Apple issued a mea culpa and apologized for the campaign.
___
Google is encouraging merchants to enable conversion annotations on their Google Shopping ads, which offer social proof that highlight a product's popularity. Conversion annotations like “best selling” or “3K shopped here recently” would provide visual cues about a product’s popularity or sales performance directly in the ad unit. Annotations like these are par for the course with e-commerce retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Temu, which all employ similar tactics. They can provide valuable info for shoppers and also help with conversions. However they also open data privacy concerns, given that Google is not the actual retailer or marketplace selling the items, so a merchant would have to share this purchase history data from their e-commerce platform with Google — which technically most already do by giving access to GA4.
___
Shein is attempting to join the National Retail Federation as it pursues regulatory approval to go public in the US. The company believes that NRF membership would boost its chances of receiving SEC approval. However so far, Shein has been rejected numerous times. An anonymous source familiar with the matter said someone with heavy influence at the NRF is strongly against the Shein's admittance. However board members who spoke to CNBC said that Shein's membership application hadn't come up in meetings, and that they aren't involved in deciding which companies are granted access.
___
Amazon is leading the way with selling home goods, capturing 18.8% of consumer home furnishings spending, compared to Walmart's 7.3% market share. Notably, Amazon’s gains in the furniture category come in spite of the company’s decision to phase out two of its three furniture brands last year.
___
Stanley, which is projected to do $750M in sales this year, up from $73M in 2019, after seeing its water bottles become a status symbol thanks to TikTok, is now expanding into trendier accessories. The company is launching a line of bags called the All-Day Collection which include a mini cooler, backpack cooler, and Quencher Carry-All, designed for someone to sling their Stanley over their hip.
___
Jack Dorsey left the Bluesky board and deleted his account on the service he helped kickstart, claiming that Bluesky was “literally repeating all the mistakes” he made while running Twitter. Dorsey says he never intended Bluesky to be an independent company, but rather, an open source protocol that Twitter was supposed to be the first client of. He also confirmed that he is financially backing Nostr, another decentralized Twitter-like service popular among crypto enthusiasts and run by an anonymous founder.
___
Amazon is deploying 50 electric trucks in California, which it claims is the largest EV fleet in the country, as part of its mission to eliminate pollution from its global operations. The trucks will be integrated into first-mile operations, moving goods from container ships at the ports to fulfillment centers, as well as middle-mile operations, transporting packages from fulfillment centers to delivery centers.
___
Wix launched a new tool called AI Portfolio Creator, which allows a user to upload and organize large-scale image collections, select the type of portfolio they want, and then have the AI tool sort and generate a portfolio with clustered images, recommended titles and descriptions, and personalized layout options.
___
Amazon is now requiring all dietary supplements to be verified by a third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization — which is something that not even the FDA requires. Amazon is the largest supplement retailer in the US ahead of Walmart and Target, and its new requirements are expected to put more pressure on the industry, which is being scrutinized more than ever.
___
Alibaba is revamping its flagship retail website Taobao for the first time in seven years with a focus on providing a smoother search and buying process. The website overhaul comes ahead of the 618 sales event, China's second-largest annual shopping event. A few weeks ago I reported that Eddie Wu, the CEO of Alibaba Group, would now be directly overseeing its domestic e-commerce arm which includes Taobao and Tmall Group, and it sounds like he's hitting the ground running with his new responsibilities.
___
Amazon is hosting its first-ever Amazon Book Sale, a new shopping event starting on May 15th that offers up to 50% off print best sellers and up to 80% off Kindle Books. The six day shopping event will exclusively run in the US, and Prime-membership is not required to take advantage of the deals.
___
FTX reported that nearly all of its customers will receive the money back that they are owed, two years after the cryptocurrency exchange imploded. The company owes about $11.2B to its customers and estimates that it has between $14.5B and $16.3B to distribute to them. The caveat is that customers will receive the USD value of their holdings at the time of the exchange collapse, and not the actual crypto holdings themselves, which means that they'll miss out on all gains during the past two years during which BTC went from around $16k to now over $60k. Better than nothing though, that's for sure.
___
800,000 consumers in Europe and the US were duped into sharing card details and other sensitive personal data with a network of fake online designer shops operated from China, which comprised one of the largest scams of its kind with 76,000 fake websites created. The scammers used expired domains to host its fake shops in order to help avoid detection by websites or brand owners, and more than 1M orders were processed in the past three years alone.
___
Beyond Inc, which owns Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, and Zulily, reported that its Q1 net loss swelled to $72M from $10M a year ago, while its operating loss widened to $58M from $8M. The company's active customers grew to 6M, up 26% from nearly 5M a year ago, however, its average order value dropped to $173 from $220 a year earlier.
___
TikTok will begin automatically labeling AI generated content when it is uploaded from certain platforms like DALL.E 3, Adobe Firefly, Photoshop, and Microsoft Copilot. TikTok will also start attaching Content Credentials to content, which will remain on the media when downloaded, allowing other platforms to read the metadata.
___
eBay is testing an Add To Cart button in search results that opens a Quick View window, allowing buyers to skip the listing page. Technically the button should probably not be labeled “Add To Cart” since it doesn't perform that action, but rather, displays a quick view window with three buttons: Buy It Now, Add To Cart, View All Details. Sellers are worried that buyers will miss crucial details in the product description that may lead to increased returns and negative feedback.
___
Amazon is planning to launch its fleet of drones in Tolleson, Arizona, but the city's extreme temperature is hampering its efforts. Drones can't operate in temperatures exceeding 104 degrees Fahrenheit, a temperature that Tolleson crosses for a full three months of the year.
___
A US district judge dismissed X's lawsuit against Bright Data, a data-scraping company accused of improperly accessing X system and violating X terms and state laws when scraping and selling data. The judge basically said that if X owned the data, it could perhaps argue that it has exclusive rights to control it, but then X wouldn't be able to enjoy the safe harbor of Section 230, which allows the platform to avoid liability for third-party content. Can't have it both ways!
___
Nintendo is discontinuing its X integration for the switch on June 10th, which means users will no longer be able to post screenshots or videos to the platform from their device. The drop in support also affects games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which had game-specific options to send out tweets. Microsoft Xbox dropped support for X in April 2023 and Sony Playstation dropped the service in October 2023 due to the increase in X's API access fees.
___
Amazon claimed that its recordable incident rate — a metric that comprises all injuries requiring “more than basic first-aid treatment” — at its US warehouses has improved by 24% since 2019. However the National Employment Law Project challenged Amazon's injury data in a report last week, claiming that Amazon's overall injury rate in 2023 was 71% higher than that of other employers in the sector at 6.5 cases per 100 workers.
___
Amazon Ads announced three new advertising formats for streaming TV including shoppable carousel ads, interactive pause ads, and interactive trivia ads. Amazon did not say when the new ad types would officially launch, but noted that it will formally present them at a presentation on May 14th.
___
Meta is rolling out an expanded set of generative AI ad tools that can create full image variations with text overlays, expand images to fit across different aspect ratios, and generate alternate versions of headlines and other ad text. The features will become available globally to advertisers by the end of the year.
___
Square introduced a tool called Square Kiosk to allow self-service ordering at fast food restaurants. The device is a combined software, hardware, and payment solution that allows customers to select exactly what they want with customization options, upgrades, and add-ons.
___
The European Parliament announced new measures to make packaging more sustainable and reduce packaging waste in the EU, including reduction targets of 15% by 2040 — which sounds far away but is only 16 years away?! As part of the new rules, the EU will set maximum empty space ratios for e-commerce transportation, ban certain single-use plastic packaging types, and beverage distributors and take-away food will have to offer consumers the option of bringing their own container.
___
Indians who pre-ordered Teslas in 2016 are giving up and seeking refunds of their deposits after Elon Musk canceled another visit to the country last month. Disillusioned Tesla enthusiasts in India say they will now buy a car from the company only if they see it in a showroom, or they'll buy a different electrical vehicle from a company that actually exists in the country.
___
Target is limiting its Pride Month collection to select stores this year instead of rolling out the merchandise nationwide like it typically has for the past decade, due to backlash the retailer experienced last year. Last May customers in certain stores knocked down LGBTQ+ merchandise displays, angrily approached store employees, and posted threatening videos on social media from inside the stores.
___
E-commerce spending from Jan 1 to April 30, 2024 rose 7% YoY to $331.6B, according to Adobe Analytics. One trend Adobe identified during the period is a shift of online spending to purchasing the cheapest goods across personal care, electronics, apparel, home & garden, furniture, and grocery.
___
Plus 7 seed rounds, IPOs, and acquisitions of interest, including Shopify's acquisition of Peel, a tool that integrates with a merchant's tech stack including Klaviyo and Recharge and helps them analyze their sales data to improve customer retention.

Hi - I'm Paul and I follow the e-commerce industry closely for my Shopifreaks E-commerce Newsletter. Each week I post a summary recap of the week's top stories, which I cover in depth in the newsletter. Let's dive in...

STAT OF THE WEEK: Kohl's sales have shrunk by $2.3B since 2019. During that same period of time, the company lost 1.3M customers who no longer shop with the retailer.

2024.05.13 18:05 DwnWrdSprl11 Has Whatnot Sealed Its Fate? Forced Shutdown Inevitable?

So, I usually don’t pay much attention to this thread unless it’s video game related, but now I’m quite nervous regarding all the stuff going on with luxury goods. 2 years ago one of our neighbors houses got raided by SWAT teams.. cops, federal agents, etc… cars lined around the block. She was selling fake purses (Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, etc…). I knew they were serious but you would have thought this woman was holding her family hostage or something. Now I read all the Reddit threads talking about these fake luxury goods being sold, how Whatnot is complicit in it, how Entropy is passing fake authentications, class-action lawsuits, etc… I mean .. whatnot is going to get shut down right???
I sell on here, and many friends of mine sell here too and I know most inventory comes from highly reputable and vetted distributors. I’m concerned about all the honest hard working sellers losing their marketplace because of what’s going on.
If these fake goods are being sold here, whatnot themselves cannot authenticate it, professional Authenticator are saying it’s fake, design brands won’t validate companies like Entropy.. why the hell do they continue to allow these people to sell? This is going to end up in a compete dismantling of this site.. whatnot is toast!?! Am I right? What do you all think ?

2024.05.13 03:12 LCMGames Del sol check engine, died while driving. Fuel issue?

Preface: have replaced main fuel relay, ecu and spark plugs wires within the past 4 months.
My del sol ended up dying while pulling into a stop light. The check engine light came on going 40mph followed by loss of power.
I was told it may be the fuel pump this time, but also my distributor has a leaky gasket and I believe the alternator may be the issue as my car was dying after a few days.
My fear is I recently replaced the ecu in December, and hope it isn't a repeat of the fuel pump not priming due to the ecu, but it wouldn't die randomly while driving I hope.
I was told it was a fuel issue , but may be multiple issues or the ecu died again.
What do you think the issue is? I assume battery, distributor, alternator, fuel pump or clogged fuel line. Gonna put a new fuel pump I'm, but afraid it isn't the issue?
Advice?

The Daily Stonk 13-05
Good Morning San Diago,
I am Rensole and this is your daily news.
Does anyone smell that?
*insert flashy intro card*
https://preview.redd.it/xpedwn0p530d1.jpg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d35dda7f31ddc21bdfc873fe67019584ad6787b1
I always joked on twitter that I'd do one when something momentous happened... and my god I can't imagine anything more momentous than this
https://preview.redd.it/n9g1rr99630d1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=2fe7113c97065ea349dc706e86440620739e60f1

Return of the king

As the prophecies of old had foretold, he shall return, and my god has he. DFV IS BACK BABY!!!
https://preview.redd.it/4g5yv08l630d1.png?width=815&format=png&auto=webp&s=360466f5e41b5fbac4ff59e823d24cd1f74d6909
In the past week there have been several rumours of DFV still being around in the background, this was because there was a post he liked from February 14th which featured the film "Ren Lola Ren" A German thriller movie from 1998. The movie is about a two-bit Berlin criminal Manni who delivers some smuggled loot for his boss, Ronnie, but accidentally leaves the 100,000 mark payment in a subway car. He then is given 20 minutes to come up with the money, he calls his girlfriend, Lola, who sprints through the streets of the city to try to beg the money out of her bank manager father and get to Manni before he does something desperate.
Again going full speculation with this one but tldr: Someone fucked up, calls someone else to help fix it and they're trying hard as fuck to get out from under a hard place which they themselves put themselves in.
https://preview.redd.it/i7zb1wnq730d1.png?width=815&format=png&auto=webp&s=99cde90720874fbf965177586ec6fd05e2329295
There also was some previous speculation on DFV being back because of his "verified" status on twitter.
https://preview.redd.it/72k9vhix730d1.png?width=427&format=png&auto=webp&s=439444dcb42d20e1c741e28459018677b260bce5
There was also a post some time ago where it was speculated that it could be that DFV was not allowed to post anything (or could've been advised not to do so) till now. we don't know for sure but the most important thing about all of this is, HE IS BACK!
The only question that currently remains is... will we get a yolo update? a stream or something else entirely. I don't know about all of you but I am hyped beyond all hell.
https://preview.redd.it/tk4djvnz830d1.png?width=512&format=png&auto=webp&s=d11fc0cab5173cfd22247845661ff7bb473dfd5a

POKEMON?

Also in the past weeks there came some news that Gamestop will be expanding into the Trading Card Games. Mainly by buying and selling Graded and regular pokemon cards.
As by the report by "PokeBeach" the new program should start ruling out to select stores on may 13th, but other stores should follow suit.
For the people who are unfamiliar, the Pokemon TDC are big money and it's a huge scene that has been (up until now) online only or limited to a local small stores. The fact that gamestop is getting into this is great IMO as lots of people started using these cards as investments in the past years. So the fact they're branching out into a new market is something I am very excited about seeing come to stores.

Physical media

As we are seeing more and more digital stores say "you don't own the stuff you bought" we are seeing a resurgence to the demand of physical media, and while other stores dwindle down on their physical media (like best buy). It seems that the Studio Distribution Servises have entered into a joint venture that distributes Discs for Universal pictures and Warner Bros with Fred meyers and gamestop
Under the deal, SDS will bring select 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray Disc and DVD titles to all 132 Fred Meyer grocery stores and 170 GameStop stores, as well as the GameStop.com e-commerce site. GameStop stores will merchandise the discs on a dedicated video wall space.
GameStop will introduce a dedicated video wall space with 20 title facings in 170 stores nationwide, and also will include an expanded online assortment on GameStop.com.
“With gaming consoles offering both gaming and movie playback capabilities, this expansion makes perfect sense,” said Mark Lewis, SVP of sales at SDS. “SDS is excited to leverage our position as a leading physical media film distributor to bring consumers their favorite films where they already shop for their entertainment.”
SDS says the two new deals reflect a resurgence of interest by consumers in buying their favorite movies and shows on disc.
“These relationships not only meet the demands of our dedicated fan base who are always asking for more, but they also represent a crucial step forward on the path to greater access to our products in the shifting retailer marketplace,” said SDS president Eddie Cunningham. “SDS is thrilled to continue to champion the physical media industry and we are confident that our loyal consumers will be delighted by the opportunity to discover new release films at additional and convenient locations around the country.”
Own what you buy, buy physical.

200 MA

Want even more bullish news? FINE!
GME has broken above it's 200 day Moving average, this happened around the third of this month. The 200 day MA is important because it helps determine the "health" of a stock. And is used by dinosaurs traditional investors as a key indicator for their market analysis to determine "generalized" long term trends.

Be friendly, help others!
as always we are here from all different walks of life and all different countries.
This doesn't matter as we are all apes Equals here, and apes are friends, big or small
Doesn't matter if you're a silverback a chimp a Shark or a whale.
We help each other, we care for each other.
Ape don't fight ape, apes help other apes
this helps us weed out the shills really fast, as if everyone is helpful, the ones who aren't stand out.
Just be nice and lets make this community as Excellent as we can!

Remember none of this is financial advice, I'm so R-Word I'm not allowed to go to the zoo 'cause they'll put me in the cage with the rest of my ape brothers.
Also I'm sure I missed loads of stuff, but I got hyped by DFV's Return and wanted to do another one for old time sake. Love -Renny

2024.05.12 16:26 timbrigham C4 not turning over

I recently purchased a 1987 c4 for my son.
At the time it had an unregulated air leak. We use the carb cleaner trick and identified that the problem was in the lower left plenum gasket. We pulled everything apart. It was kind of a pain in the ass, I initially followed My Corvette Life video on it and also removed the valve cover. So that gasket got replaced.
At the time we also found several broken vacuum lines, specifically between the plenum and the HVAC, as well as the egr solenoid. Both input to it and output from it to the egr valve had been sheared off.
I picked up some new vacuum line and got everything replaced, plus the lower pleenium gasket. Things were almost working except I hadn't quite got the cold start injector seated correctly. Hitting with the carb cleaner again showed that to be the source of the idle issue, so another air leak needing fixed.
After another round of pulling stuff apart got everything reconnected. But now the car won't turn over at all. I can smell a little gas from the exhaust pipes if I keep trying to turn it over so fuel shouldn't be a problem. The only thing electrical I touched was the distributor cap which I double-checked is still seated correctly, and I triple-checked all of the work that I did on the air system.
I made sure to recharge the battery for a couple hours before I tried anything. You can hear it here - https://youtube.com/shorts/FiZn3VYWpek?si=PYQ164tAP_-Tg4DL
I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, what should I be doing to diagnose at this point?

2024.05.12 15:53 thatmozzie_ New at Mixing/Mastering - Need Feedback On Loud Alt Rock Track

EDIT ---
Mixing/Master short 1 min comparison (3 different mixes)
I made a mixing edit incorporating people's suggestions below.
Mix 1 - Unchanged
Mix 2 - a lot of changes u/Dry-Trash3662 suggested
Mix 3 - Creating more space for guitars and synths. synths a wide boost of 1.5 dbs at 244, a 5 db cut at around 1k, then a 3 db boost at around 2k, and high cut at 9.5k, and guitars a slight 1.3 db cut at 293, a slight 1.5 db boost around 1k, a 3.7 db cut at 2k, and a 2.6 db boost at 5k. The guitars at the chorus in particular have a super fuzzy distracting sound in the 2k range that are not nice to listen to, so cutting there actually resulted in clearing up some unwanted noise.
Ultimately i'm trying to get those synths in the chorus to stand out on their own while also not taking away that loud rock guitar
Song: Dream_Master_051224
Reference Track: Marilyn Manson - Great Big White World
(I went with Marilyn Manson's Great Big White World as a Mastering reference since the EQ curve and chorus tone was similar as well as the loudness level I'm going for, and his vocals here are very similar to mine (and I noticed he has high sibilance too so it seemed like a good match to try to emulate in the mix)
Hi Guys,
I'm an indie artist, this is my second release i'm working on - i tried going through a mix/master engineer but couldn't get the right vibe I was going for with this one so I decided to completely mix and master this song myself. It's a pretty loud alt rock song, lots of instrumentals and synths going on in the chorus. I'm planning a hard release date for June 7th, so I plan on sending out via my distributor to release to all streaming platforms sometime next week. I do intend on submitting to blogs / Spotify editorial etc.
I've been alternating quite a bit to listen on various mediums and devices (iphone earbuds, premium earbuds, headphones, iphone speaker, car, etc) to make sure this release is something that's not going to make the listener switch. Some of the issues in particular i've been having on this track:
Any and all advice on the mix, the balance, whatever you hear or have input on would be very much appreciated. I've used some automation in this mix especially in the mastering phase with my UAD limiter on the chorus to slightly increase the gain and slightly decrease during the verse.
Thanks!
