I was at a disadvantage before, looking around in unknown territory, but here? This is my house. My country. My library! I have walked around these halls so many times that I have a pretty good mental map of where everything is. Considering the most requested academic tomes are under the protection of the Librarian, I go investigate the shelves on the first floor, where you find mostly reference books.

All this confidence I managed to build up disappears the instant I notice there’s a group of students in the lodges to the side of the hall, just minding their own business. My throat dries up, my knees shake a little bit.

Saints damn it, why aren’t you all on vacation!?

And they are sitting right on my way, between me and the shelves. I am sure the symbol has to be on the shelves…

“Time to turn tail and run, like always.”

“You can do it. Take a deep breath, look straight onwards and walk!”

Taking her advice, I do my best to not look at ANYTHING and just go straight as an ant to the shelves.

“Wait. What if any of them say hi? Oh no. Uhm. Take a quick look! But make it super, super quick!”

Damn it.

My eyes slowly turn to the left as I am walking. Are they looking at me? Did they look at me? WILL they look at me? They don’t seem to even notice me. Should I call for their attention? Should I say hi? I don’t even know them, that would be weird. But what if I do know them and I just don’t remember? There’s lots of law students around, maybe they are law students? I can’t see their books from this distance, maybe I need glasses. Would glasses make me look unassuming? I wish people didn’t look at me…

Eventually I reach the shelves without exchanging a single word with these people. I really, really hope I didn’t look like a nervous wreck while walking by, but I guess there isn’t much I can do about that now, can I? Ugh, I can barely focus as I start looking on the shelf itself, trying to find anything out of the ordinary…

“You’re nervous when there’s a lot of people, and you’re nervous when there’s few people. What will it take for you to be happy about something, huh!? Tiresome bitch…”

I sigh loudly. I left my S.O.S. at home, so I can’t really get rid of these voices tonight… I’ll have to brave them.

“It will be a hard time… but you can do it.”

Taking a deep breath, I continue trying to focus on finding that damn ‘golden symbol’ around the shelves, even taking out a few suspiciously out of place books, just to check if the symbol could be carved on the back of the shelf or something…

Nothing.

I spend a good long hour checking each shelf on the first floor as methodically as my body allows… before I know it, I have given up on everything and am sitting on a bean couch at the main hall, letting my eyes close slowly…

… When I open them again, I practically jump out of my chair.

Did I just fall asleep!?

“Oh boy.”

I pick up my phone to check… It's 2 in the morning.

“Oh boy! Who could have guessed things would go wrong, huh?”

I can still feel the sleepiness in my limbs, my eyelids feel so heavy. Saints, help your poor servant!

The lights feel so vibrant here, so annoying and white. I can practically hear them buzz… but then, I notice something else. The smell of decent coffee, recently brewed. I look around, quickly finding the librarian at her desk, serving cups of coffee to the group I saw… I think of going over and taking one but that would probably imply conversation. And I am not ready for conversation! I—

“Oi! You finally woke up!” The librarian catches me instantly with a knowing smirk. “Want a cuppa?”

I freeze. For a moment I think: ‘hey, let’s pretend I didn’t hear her!’, but I don’t have my headphones on and I made eye contact. I am trapped, TRAPPED.

“M-Mhm.” I manage to whimper, nodding my head quickly.

“Then come over, don’t be shy. We’re all night owls here.”

There is a sense of community there that’s quite alluring, but the curious looks of that group of students really feel like cold daggers on my chest. Still, I gather all my courage and robotically walk over to the group, taking a styrofoam cup, and then watching the woman fill it up slowly with coffee as black as my soul. Just like I like it… just with a hint of sugar, though.

“So you finally came around again. I was wondering what happened to you.” The old lady looked at me, knowingly.

“You… you recognize me?” I can’t help but feel a mixture of happiness and abject horror mounting on my back.

“My child, I recognize every single person who comes to my library! I know them all, believe it or not! Including these rascals over here.”

The others laughed. I just looked at my coffee while mixing a teaspoon of sugar in it. She’s probably joking, right? I mean… there’s no way she actually memorizes every visitor, right?

“Maybe she’s a witch.”

Knowing what I know now? I wouldn’t be surprised. I just take a sip of my coffee.

“You’re not here to study for the special tests, are you?” The lady again read me like a saints’ damned book. “You’re looking for something special.”

“It’s nothing that ominous.” I quickly cover. “I am just looking for a particular book, but I am not sure where I could find it in the library.”

“Why not ask for help? I am right here, precisely for that!” The Librarian puffed up her chest. “If I don’t get anything to do, I get bored.”

“Ah, well, you see…” I start getting nervous again. I can’t just tell her the truth! What if I slip and this woman turns out to be a cloak testing me? Or worse, a sleeper! I am quite sure the whole ‘Secret of magic’ is a very serious matter! I could get her and myself in a big pickle!

The woman seems to notice my distress… and instead of trying to reassure me, the damn crone just goes and says:

“Is it poooorn you’re after, boy?~”

Saints help me.

The others are laughing and looking at me all smiley, why!? Why must this lady put me in a situation like this!?

“T-There’s the internet for stuff like that!” I blurt without thinking. “I mean! Ah! Damn it!”

More laughs. At this point my face must be lighting up red and radiating hotter than active uranium.

“I. Can’t. It’s a symbol!”

“A symbol?” One of the other students tilted his head with curiosity. “What kind of symbol? Are we talking chemical or arcane?”

“Nerd spotted. You’re among comrades here, breathe easy.”

It’s hard to breathe easy when people are actively laughing at me, saints damn it!

“It… symbolizes gold.” I finally relented. “I am not sure which one of the many, many interpretations it could be. I thought of the alchemical symbol for gold, or a Sun, who knows…”

“That’s a little vague.” The student said, frowning a little bit and rubbing the back of his neck. “The symbol is in the book? Like, on the cover?”

What am I even supposed to answer to that!?

“I. Think?”

“Well.” The Librarian recovers the reigns of the conversation with a grin. “If that thing you are looking for isn’t here? It may be a literature tome. You know, on the second floor.”

“Y-Yeah…” I sigh. This whole conversation has just been so stressful.

“Well! It could be the Golden Ratio!” One of the girls says. “You know the Golden Ratio?”

“Isn’t that the whole shell inside a rectangle thing?” I blink.

“Yeah! They use the helenian letter ‘phi’ to represent it.”

The girl is nice enough to draw it for me…

I stare at the symbol on the paper for a moment. That’s… actually useful. And it does make sense! It could be this! Suddenly inspired, I stand right up and finish what’s left from my coffee in one gulp, not even caring that it burns my damn throat as I do so.

“Okay, this works. Thank you!” Without even feeling the anxiety attack me again, I bow my head and turn around to go right for the stairs!


When Tav had turned around and moved out, the Leader of the Coven looked at her young apprentice with a frown, shaking her finger slowly at the girl.

“You shouldn’t be so obvious with your hints, young girl.” The woman shook her head softly. “We could have had fun with her for at least another hour!”

“I didn’t feel like being cruel today.” The apprentice said with a sleepy grin, while some of the others ruffled her hair and called her a ‘softie’. “The Bastard needs a way to learn! And it would be sad to see the Overseer waiting for another night…”


I rush past the empty reception desk on the second floor, joging without even caring about the ‘No Running’ rule as I go head first into the wooden shelves of the literature section. And it doesn’t even take me that many attempts to finally see something: a symbol carved on the wooden side of one of the shelves.

Phi. Lower case. Small enough to not be disruptive, but big enough to be noticeable.

My eyes widen, and I immediately approach the symbol with awe invading my body. I don’t even dare to touch it at first, that’s how big my excitement is! Whatever does this mean!? Is this whole building the Elysium? Or just the second floor? Isn’t this place way too public for what they mean to do?

Finally giving up on trying to be cautious, I just touch the symbol. For a moment nothing happens, and I feel the panic starting to take over again.

“Trust the process, maybe it takes a moment!”

I keep my finger pressed on the carved symbol for a moment, taking slow, deep breaths as I try to keep myself from going into a saints damned anxiety attack. But then, something does happen. Octarine, that strange colour, starts filtering from my very veins and into the symbol, filling in the carving before flowing on the air like a river of vibrant purple-green. It advances in front of my eyes, dancing and spiraling before flowing deeper into the library.

“What…?”

“What are you waiting for!?”

“Follow it!”

I don’t have to tell myself twice! My legs don’t have the energy to keep running, but the colour is not flowing super fast, so I can just walk behind it until it reaches an empty wall on the deepest side of the second floor. I put my hand against it and push slightly, this time trying to cause the flow myself! My excitement knows no bounds when the colours flow from my forearm to my palm, and then spread on the wall like vines growing in all directions.

“Idiot! What if someone can see you!?”

Biting my lower lip, I quickly turn around. No one followed me, good! I can focus again on the wall, or in this case the lack of it: where there was a wall now there’s an entrance, a black hole just waiting for me to jump in. With a sigh, I decide to ignore my anxieties and just go into the darkness, being quickly surrounded by it as the wall quickly appears again behind me.

It takes a moment for my eyes to get used to the room, but when they do the way is clear: a spiral stairway going up.

“More stairs… why do people here love their stairs!?”

With a frustrated grumble, I take a step on the stairs, only for them to start moving on their own. Huh. Now that’s convenient! I just let them take me higher and higher, without even questioning how they move without mechanisms or electricity. Magic is just Like That™.

It doesn’t take long until the light hits me: a faint, gentle blue light, like a beautiful night sky. My observation proves right on the money, for what I find on top of the stairway is a tremendous planetarium: a dome of darkness with distant white lights showing the spectacle of the stars right above us.

There are some tables and chairs around, some bookshelves too… and sitting on one of them, was the specter of someone I know. The figure of a certain book vendor.

Miss Pelafina gently brushed some of her dyed black hair behind her ear to look at me with a mocking grin.

“Took you long enough, didn’t it? Kid.”

I’m 45, c/o 95. The last generation of daily homework, book bags weighed down with textbooks, tons of notes, no phones in school or laptops to do assignments one, lockers we could use…the good old days! Now I have a 3rd, 9th, and 12th grader. Common core, phones allowed in class, no lockers or textbooks, and everything online. Even notes have been replaced with powerpoints…and all this pointless testing has my kids HATING school! They absolutely aren’t learning. Barely passing because of the 50% thing, hardly being held accountable for missing assignments, and being around kids with no desire or motivation to succeed in school. Fortunately my oldest is graduating this year. He’s always willingly went to school. But my 9th grader is the opposite. Finds any excuse to stay home and gets extremely mad and slaps walls and slams the door on his way out the door. He yells at me “I hate school! There’s nothing to do” his school has no instruments for music class. He sits on a stool for 90 minutes. They have one online assignment they finish in 5 minutes and sit bored the rest of class. With the A day and B day schedule, they hate going on B day because they say there’s no point. Half the time they have substitutes who sit and babysit, or themselves sit on a phone. Even gym class is this…walk around the track twice and sit in the bleachers the remaining 45 minutes. Poor WiFi means he has nothing to do for 90 minutes each class once his ridiculous online, 10 question assignment is complete. And I know it isn’t always the case, but when they do have an actual assignment, even then it’s just a PowerPoint packet with some questions. There’s no note taking whatsoever. No material to study from. I’ve asked the teachers and they say “we went over a PowerPoint in class”. I ask about homework and they say the students can do their online homework in class. So basically the kids are forced to sit for 8 hours a day doing nothing. And then 2 weeks of testing completely makes it worse. They finish the test in less than 20 minutes and are forced to sit quietly in the room for up to 3 hours. Even if they all finished. Their teachers aren’t present because they are busy babysitting test takers in another room. Even if my son’s grade has finished testing, their teachers still have to spend an entire week babysitting other test takers. He says school is like an 8 hour long detention for 2 weeks. And now that testing is done and grades are in…they still have 3 weeks of school to endure and he is literally shouting and crying and having a breakdown about sitting through 3 more weeks of doing nothing. My oldest (who goes to a different school in a more affluent district, but has friends who goes to his brother’s school defends him by saying…well mom he isn’t wrong. I’ve heard they literally are doing nothing. When I force my son to go, we’ve had a shouting match and I’m the worst parent in the world and he leaves the house in a very stressed, angry mindset. He’s even secretly recorded his classes to prove the things he says. I’ve considered getting him into a different, better school but it seems they’re all the same and I have to work so I can’t drive him across town twice a day. My 3 rd grader is starting to hate school as well. Says the teacher is mean and lets the bullies get away with being mean because god forbid these kids have consequences! Wouldnt want to offend the parents!!! My biggest concern is how am I to get my middle son through another 3 years of highschool? I’m not exaggerating when I say atleast 3 days a week we are fighting every morning and every night about him wanting to stay home. His grades are mostly A’s and B’s with one D. Yet when I ask my older kids about general topics like world history, English grammar, science…they have no clue! So how is it they make good grades? They mostly fail their tests though. That’s because they can google all their classwork and pass it but they learn nothing and have nothing to study from to pass a test. So do I give in and let him stay home or force him to go…further reinforcing his hatred for school? He refuses to be homeschooled or go to another school which I don’t understand. I truly believe that removing textbooks, having daily homework and note taking done on paper with a pen, electives with actual hands on activities, competitive sports during gym class, and much more needs to come back! We’re hurting our kids. They’re learning nothing, not just academically but coping skills, no accountability and consequences, no motivation or desire to assert themselves. Encouraging creativity and healthy competition where hard work gets rewarded is now obsolete. Even my older son who enjoys going to school says all these things. He only happily went to school to see his friends. I’m just conflicted because I was raised to push through and stick it out until the last day of school and I’ve tried to hard to keep my middle son motivated to go but we fight more days than we don’t. Am I wrong to let him stay home 3-4 days a week the last 2 weeks of school? I know if I make him go it’s going to be WW3 in my house. Of course it’s not his decision, it’s mine because I’m the parent. But given today’s poor school climate…I’m just conflicted.

Hi, first time poster, lurker since dec 2020. This is about to be some of the tinfoiliest stuff ever, but bear with me. Last night I was digging deep into some rabbit holes and stumbled upon some interesting things. I don’t have time to go super in depth because I am trying to not get fired today, so you guys gotta take it from here. Please remember I eat crayons, and forgive me for throwing this together so sloppily.
My findings started around here, when I found a post about the old starry night puzzle from vitakatu (white cat).

Eventually starry night digging led me to this guy, whose name I’ll censor because this sub doesn’t like him. He has been spewing a ton of super cryptic tin foil for years and some of the stuff in these posts stood out to me, including the fact that he often delivers his messages in rap form. (A dfv tweet shows us a guy rapping about being harassed/hated when he was trying to help, similar to how this user was treated in the sub. To this tweet, he replied to dfv “thank you!”). I think this guy might be one of the people working with dfv.

While I was on his twitter I saw a strong recommendation to watch theppseedsshow’s livestream last night. I had been looking for some sort of link to the Mon-wed-Fri 7pm stream schedule and “check out an anon’s (random?) stream” DFV referred to all evening. This channel streams those nights (with the exception of this week because it’s a big week). There’s also the tweet with the scene of the kid drawing a bunch of dicks(peepees>PP?). Even bigger, the song in DFV’s Furi tweet happens to be their stream intro song. (It is around 35min into this stream from last night (and is on all previous streams as well).
When I found this, the stream had been going for a little over an hour. I stayed and watched until the end (1:30am). If you have 6 hours of free time, I highly recommend watching the stream. It has a lot of ultra shiny tinfoil, some of it I feel a lot of you will instantly dismiss as shill (for example, these guys are big into a different stock)- please give it a chance.
I’ve searched the sub for anything relating to this and haven’t found anything, so I figured I’d type something up real quick for you guys to dig further into.

I just finished Medium and I must say the pull of the story was excellent. As soon as the scene with Jack occurred, I was all in. I needed to know where the story went. The pacing, atmosphere, sound (play with headphones as recommended), and unique concept (two dimensions at once) were delivered in an excellent manner.

I enjoyed checking every item and reading every file. The mysteries became very intriguing and kept me enthralled. Sadness was a very interesting character and trying to find her name so you could set her free was a very strong plot point. The Maw's delivery was excellent. Voiced by Troy Baker, it always felt disturbing and one of the only enemies that made me feel anxious as I ran from it. You really couldn't make any mistakes to get away as it truly, desperately wanted to catch you. The mysteries of what it was and where it came from also pulled me in.

I was a little confused about Thomas's office in Niwa but then I noticed the circle of salt around his desk. That combined with his memory stating something was coming tells me that he survived the Maw attack by surrounding himself in salt I'm a hurry (broken salt container in his desk). Some time later it seems he called Marianne and went into the spirit world using the symbols in the secret room (Marianne said those symbols felt like a curtain blowing in the wind). It makes sense given Thomas decided he was going to find his other half after setting Marianne's arrival in motion. It also makes sense on why he was nowhere to be found. The after credits proves it was the real Thomas in the spirit world as he was holding the watch his wife gave him on their 10 year anniversary. Again I love the details.

Now for the small problems I have with the story. The third act just kind've threw in some new plot device without much set up. Henry literally came out of nowhere but was central to everything that happened. This as opposed to Richard who was set up for some time before the big reveal. Even going back as seeing the memory of the nurse killing him makes sense once you learn where the Maw came from. The Maw's first victim was the man who helped create it. But Henry just showed up, attacked Thomas, set fire to the house, trapped spirit Thomas, then died. His short encounter was near impossible to predict and just as easily disappeared leaving us dealing with the damage dealt. Henry's involvement just felt rushed compared to everything else. There's so many unexplained parts of his involvement.

I get that he doing Thomas by noticing the article of Richard's vegetative state. His motivation seems to be that he's a dedicated government agent and just loves his job?

Why did he want Thomas to show his power rather then just arresting him?

How did Henry lay that trap for spirit Thomas without knowing what Thomas could actually do?

How did spirit Thomas even survive? I'm guessing real Thomas killed Henry before the beast could finish spirit Thomas but also left him trapped in Henry's mind.

Then there's Lillianne. Where was she living this entire time? How did she survive? Was she just checking the lake every day for years? She had some very distinct bandages on her legs and arms. Seems like a detail that should have an explanation.

Was Sadness just a manifestation of Lily, like the Maw? Is she like the child inside your mind that if Marianne sent away, would've put Lily in a vegetative state? Why was she missing an arm? I think trying to discover her death was a draw of the early game just to find out she's just a red herring there to motivate Marianne into finding the truth. I particularly liked the part where you're following the blinking lights as Sadness' only was to tell you where to go. It felt very supernatural and ghostly which helped set the tone. It put a damper later when you find out her role in all this.

As you can see most of my questions are elements introduced in the third act. The ending although faded to black didn't leave many options. Marianne killing herself would solve nothing. Killing Lily and sending away the May is the only solution. Some claim Thomas might've showed up and killed Lily to fulfill the dream, but he's not even in their realm. Since Marianne is no idiot, she either killed Lily or didn't shoot anyone. If she didn't kill Lily then maybe she thought of another way to get rid of the Maw. But obviously we have no idea so it's have to assume Lily is dead and now Thomas continues his search for his spirit half who may now have died protecting Marianne. Great story that could've been a masterpiece. Still a great game overall.

Red spots only on one leg
Since my last visit to Paris (last weekend) I keep having red spots on only one leg. Some are itchy and I feel like they multiply during the night, because only in the morning I see new ones. I asked my pharmacist what it can be. She suspected lice bites and gave me an insect repellent. The thing is that I see no trace of insect at my place. I have changed my bed sheets, put my clothes away in a bag. I have an appointment with my GP soon but also wanted to ask you if it can be scabies

Gheinar City: Imperial Occupied Northern Front
General Redlina's lone transport arrived at Gheinar in the early hours of a particularly cold morning. The large abhuman marched down the ramp flanked only by two Valyrrans & two Minthelians. Her aide Lieutenant Luciel who was coughing regularly and barely able to stay standing straight after the wounds she had sustained and still not gotten treated properly. And a lone stormtrooper who hid her face behind her visor and rebreather but her armour was scarred and scratched telling a tale of a violent and chaotic battle. The two Minthelians Captain Poppy and Flo had tagged along with the general on route to the northern front.
Redlina however was as she always looked, her bulky uniform and coat billowing behind her, red abhuman eyes hidden under the peak of her iconic officers cap. She was ignoring the pain from her own injury but unless those watching paid close attention it was hard to tell she was still recovering from a stab wound by the traitors knife.
Redlina was here to speak with McMahon, the 532nd was the backbone of her main force after the Sigmauer task force had been pulled out from under her and she was here to answer whatever questions the colonel might have in person, as promised. She had not spoken to him since contingency V7 had been enacted. She marched through the cities citadel following firections to the main HQ saluting every guardsman she passed.

East of Crowton & Burron: Imperial Siege Lines
At the Rok, Colonel Zerac was awoken to another explosion and the sounds of ork warcries. The orks were launching another attack, the 9th this week alone. Most never even got close to the lines but this one sounded bad. He rolled off the ammo crate he had been using as a bed collected his kit and rushed out of the deep dugout and into the trenches passing scrambling formations of Valyrran troops that rushed to their positions. Amidst the shouts of "Bayonets" and barking orders, the colonel walked on nodding to the young nervous looking troops under his command or giving them brief words of encouragement and pats on the back. Meanwhile explosions rained down all over the trench network from innaccurate ork fire and the crack of imperial artillery firing in reply, waging a war of counter battery across the snow filled warzone.
As he arrived at the command dugout the sounds of battle began in earnest orks had reached 1k meters from the first line and lasguns, heavy bolters grenade launchers and more had started opening up. The Colonel found his other half, Colonel Mirai already barking instructions into a voxset and moving icons around on the command table. Ebkirche had been summoned and warnings had been issued to the Kriegers to the south about the scale of this attack.
The Valyrrans would not falter and stood ready to weather the green tide once again.

Outskirts of Waycross: Northern Front
Bluekilla Snazzda had recieved the bosses orders not long ago. "Find da nearest humie settlement and krump em" His roving band of orks numbering some 5 thousand had seen the explosions and fighting happening over by Waycross and had not wanted to be left out, thing is he realised very quickly he was outgunned and outnumbered and in an odd show of competency had elected to launch a dawn attack on the humies from the northwest and western directions as they started moving north. The Valyrrans had gone from the smallest contingent to probably the largest now and the rows of heavy armoured vehicles poured out of the town for hours all heading south towards the newly found crossing, squads of centaur light carriers, hydras and hellhounds set out for the bridge itself eager to get to Waycross as quickly as possible under Captain Donly's command while the infantry, Crassus and Macharius heavies went south.
As reports of fighting at the river had reached command, waves of Vulture gunships had been scrambled to scour the snowy plains and find the escaped T'au force, Minton had orders to divert a hunting party which would cooperate with the Rathian scouts in the area to find and eradicate this potential thorn in their side.

Fortress Sha'Yo: T'au Northern Frontline.
At Sha'Yo Fortress Captain Finn stood on the battlements looking out south, he had been told the stealth convoy had returned across the icebreaker plains and was due to arrive today. He had still been waiting on reports of how the rest of the fighting had unfolded across the frontlines after his own only semi successful strike, he atleast hoped the enemy no longer underestimated them going forward. His forces morale had stayed steady despite the losses and he had doubled the number of drone patrols incase of any Imperial counter attack, he would not be caught unprepared.

Both Imperial and T'au commands in the area looked at meteorological reports and both sides came to the same conclusion. A potent winter storm was about to hit the northern front which would drop temperatures considerably. All forces were advised to prepare themselves for a period of intense snow, with -30 to -50 degree weather with even worse conditions in the mountains and low visibility expected until the storms pass. These conditions will hamper air support especially.

I still can’t get over the evening with twenty one pilots small show in Berlin. I’ve been into the band for 9 years now, and it was my first time seeing them live (since I lived in a country not many international artists come to). I have to say, that it was an absolutely magical experience.
I feel like the main attraction of the whole show was being amongst fans that were as passionate about the music as I was. Everybody in that room knew the lyrics front to back, word to word, and I’d kill to have an experience like that more often. Since I’ve grown up watching videos of all the previous tours of all eras, I always wished that I could experience the songs that they played a certain way in that specific show.
What I would love to organise, is a sing along party for the Berlin clikkies. I’m an event promoter based in Berlin, and I was thinking of setting up an event where the fans get a live rendition of the music from different tours stitched together and rendered exactly like they played it, but in a studio version. Fans get together and sing along to their dream setlist flowing through with segues and transitions exactly like they do in a live show (like ‘Pet Cheetah to HDS’ or ‘Jumpsuit to Levitate’) including interactive bits that the band incorporates in their live shows (WDBWOTV for example) in Tyler’s voice. A dream setlist that’s 3 hours long, and not constricted to a usual 80 minute show.
A music club/venue with professional audio, lights and sound, around 1000 fans singing in unison for hours could be an unforgettable experience. What do you guys think about a concept like this, and what would your dream setlist be?

Ok, I'm new to this hobby, but the Retrolife HQ-KZ006 caught my eye as it has USB connection that connects to a PC. This is something I'm pretty sure I need for reasons I will explain below. But also, you can encode the vinyl into digital MP3 files for storage on PC, which is a cool bonus feature I'd probably enjoy. Let me explain my background though.
So, first off, I love listening to vinyl rips with my headphones. It's a bit of a hobby and obsession for me over the years finding rips online from people like PBTHAL or RUTRACKER which has plenty of vinyl and even digitized (restored) versions of albums. Dynamic range is super important to me, and headphones help give me that intimate experience I crave, so I get chills listening to music and really FEEL it! I have the DT 770 Pro X headphones and TYGR 300R headphones. I love to also EQ my headphones, so that I get close to the Harman curve as I can. I just love a natural and ACCURATE sound. However, I had to get the QUDELIX 5K DAC in order to have my EQs saved onto the headphones. All fine and good.
Now, I know vinyl is very much a sacred analog device, and that's what I was planning on getting: just a good vinyl record player with no such USB or bluetooth etc features. However, I learned about some important things that propelled me to do more research. Mainly, it's a horrible idea to attempt to transmit audio from my DAC+Headphones via Aux on an analog vinyl player. The DAC is digital, so that makes sense... I lost hope for a bit but did research and found these record players with USB support and playback on PC. This got me really curious and I watched a few reviews of the vinyl record player above. Seems like a good turntable.
I have some question about it I hope I can be enlightened on.

1. Will I be able to playback whatever is playing on the turntable to my PC with my headphones+DAC? I don't mean the digital file thing, I mean just using the vinyl player sorta the way it's intended, except the PC is transmitting the signal for audio? If so, will quality be perfectly fine and sound just like the vinyl I know and love (at least vinyl rips I find online)?
   
2. Does the digital file encoding actually let me save the music as FLAC on my PC? I know they mention MP3 on the store page. MP3 is fine as long as it's like 270 mbps iirc. There's a sweet spot, and it's extremely difficult for even trained ears to tell a diff between it and flac apparantely. Anyways, will that ruin audio quality at all saving it as a file? I love idea of saving the files on my PC! It'd be super convenient, especially if they sound just as good as actual playback!
   
3. Is this even a good turntable, the Retrolife? I see a nice looking Sony one and a couple others that are more expensive. I am down to pay more if it's worth it, but I am really only interested as long as I can use my headphones and DAC.

Hi guys,
I am in Canada and I got into UofT's Adult Education and Community Development MEd program for January 2024. However, it required in-person attendance and would take me 3 years part-time. Balancing work, family, and commuting downtown seemed overwhelming, so I opted out.
Instead, I completed an Online Learning Certificate from Duke University, courses on LinkedIn Learning, and built a portfolio. I felt this was a more efficient use of my time.
Recently, I discovered WGU's MEd in Education Technology and Instructional Design. I like the flexibility and competency-based model. I have a break from work from June to August and could start at WGU as early as July 1st, allowing me to focus full-time on school initially. I believe I could finish the program in less than a year, saving time and money.
UofT is one of the top schools and their MEd. is ranked #1 in Canada. They offer instructional design MEd fully online. If I reapply, I could potentially start this September or January 2025, but it would take 3 years part-time.
I cannot decide between using my free time to finish quickly at WGU or committing to UofT's well recognized but longer program. Is UofT's reputation worth that much wait and extra time?

Long post (sorry in advanced).
Seeking advice on the best next steps for my situation. I (43f) have been married to my husband (41m) for 17 years (together for over 20 years). During those 17 years we separated at year 4 (lasted about a year) because I felt like he wasn’t meeting my expectations and sharing the mental load with our 3 young children at the time (he would often play video games after he got home from work instead of helping with the kids). We tried marriage counseling prior to separating but ultimately spending the year apart (and divorcing) helped us grow to the point where we felt life was not worth living unless we lived it together. 1 month after our divorce we started dating again and we remarried on our original wedding anniversary the following year.
This new marriage was better than the first- we were kinder to one another, communicated our expectations and needs (or so I thought), and we brought another child into the world. Together we are raising 4 children (2 in college, one in high school, and 1 in elementary). I felt like we were always on the same page. We constantly talked about our dreams and life goals, we went on vacations, he encouraged me to go back to school and helped out by taking over the cooking and cleaning. I would ask him what he needed from me and he would communicate that to me. I truly felt like we were stronger than ever. This is the marriage people dream of.
Last year, my husband encouraged me to go back to school to continue perusing my career goals. I got into a doctoral program for my field and he said he would support me however I needed. He works full time from home- and I work 2 part time jobs (one of which helps pay for my schooling). Well, I’m 1 year in with my program and about 3 weeks ago (right before finals) he tells me he’s unhappy with our marriage and his needs are not being met. He told me he needs to feel desired and valued and wants to be prioritized, have more sex, and more help with the cooking and picking up our youngest from school/sports. I dropped everything (happily) and stepped up to the plate. We had sex daily, I went back to cooking for the family every night, picking our youngest up from school/practice, and I only did my school work during his working hours so my weekends were free to spend with him. I even told him I would be happy to quit chill altogether because none of that means anything to me if he’s not by my side.
After about 1 week of this he reveals he’s not in love with me anymore and that he’s emotionally checked out because he had been feeling like this for years. He said he doesn’t want to have sex anymore, and he doesn’t want me around all the time, and now I’m cooking too much and not giving him the opportunity to cook, too. When I asked him why he didn’t communicate this to me sooner, he said he didn’t want to “stress me out.” He acknowledges that his communication is and always has been poor (although I thought it was better this time in our marriage). I suggested couples counseling- we went to one session and he tells me he’s not interested in putting the work because it’s too hard when he’s not in love with me. I told him I will continue to show up for him and our marriage because I believe in us and this amazing life we built.
It’s been only 3 weeks since he told me he was unhappy and last night he said he’s done. We had a long talk about what brings him joy in life and he couldn’t think of anything. I think he may be having a midlife crisis and he’s projecting his unhappiness onto me. He agreed to continue to go to therapy to work on himself and figure out “who he is” but doesn’t want our marriage to complicate this process. So now we are trying to figure out what life looks like during this process. We are going to try and cohabitate for the next few years and coparent and I’m going to attempt to continue with school (and work) so I can better support myself and our kids when he leaves. I’m hoping during this time he will come back to me but this is where I’m probably delusional. I know I need to let him go but I still have hope that we can be amazing together. He said he’s broken and I deserve better.
I should also mention that he revealed to me that prior to him telling me he was unhappy he had been jacking off to pornhub 2x a day. He said he built up resentment towards me during this time because he wanted to instead have sex with me. I reminded him that he never communicated this need to me and I would have been happy to step it up.
I keep telling him “I wish I had known.” It hurts my heart to hear my partner was hurting for all this time. All he had to do was tell me what he needed and give me the opportunity to meet his needs. But he never gave me that choice. I’ve been completely blindsighted, and I am completely devastated. I still have hope. Should I even continue to try and save what he thinks is lost?

I've (23) been dating this girl (18) for more than two months, maintaining a long-distance relationship. She was diagnosed with BPD and has mommy issues. I started off as a free-bee therapist for her, giving her cool-headed advice and whatnot. She checks all the boxes in typical BPD trances. Every two days, it's like a brand new saga with her. She has no IRL friends, only a handful of boys that she talks to online.
We're mainly connected through Instagram; we both have shared our numbers, WhatsApp, and whatnot, but we really prefer to keep things on Instagram because we feel it's more convenient; we can share each other reels and memes, talk and joke about it, and keep things functional.
As I've mentioned earlier, every two days is like a new saga with her; she has constant quarrels with her mom, disagreements about cats, and some things that might seem trivial to me and others but not to her (considering her disorder, I am not downplaying her feelings), and trust me when I say, I have had my fair share of beatings and still occasionally get some from my mother.
Conversations from the past few days were at a low ebb. She has exams ongoing; has 2 or 3 home tutors, so we barely got an hour to talk about stuff—no arguments, no nothing.
So the day before yesterday, I sent her two reels, things went like this:

I low-key expect her to reach out to me, and I plan to do so in a couple of days. Does that make me a manipulator for going out of contact in expectation of her reaching out to me? I know two months seem like nothing, but I love this girl a lot. But unconditional love doesn't mean unconditional tolerance. It's my first relationship, so I was, no, I AM pouring my all into it. I am normally a very self-aware person, but this relationship is really clouding my judgment. That's why I seek help from people who are more knowledgeable about these things.

I finally did it!! Don't mean to be long winded....who the hell am I fooling I'm going to be long winded. Finally got my Marisa to Master. Been fighting in the streets since SF2, I can remember being 12 years old walking up to the machine seeing a crowd around it an when I finally could see between everyone, thinking to myself "wow 6 buttons how the hell do you play with that many buttons". Popped my quarter in an waited my turn, of course I picked Blanka (because what 12 year old doesnt like a green beast). Got totally destroyed, who knew that random day would lead to me making this post 30+ years later.
Since then I've played every SF game, but USF4 I definitely played the most, at one point I was well over 140K online fights, I've played that game for 8 hours stretches an still wasn't tired of it. Was never truly "that good". Got Ryu, Ken, Akuma & Gouken to about B rank. Played it for 10 years solid, I'm not the type of person to play many other games so it was exclusively SF an occasionally God Of War if a new one was released.
Then SF5 came out, played that for countless hours, but Ultra Gold was the highest I could get with the only character I used, Ryu. After playing SF that long muscle memory becomes your best friend an worst enemy. I was never crazy about any other fighting games, Tekken is cool just never really like the dynamics of it, Mortal Kombat is way over the top.
Fast foward to SF6, finally told myself I was going to make a change an not use a Shoto, saw Marisa command grab an said "YUPPPP that's who I'm using". Been using her since release day, it was tough unlearning the Shoto muscle memory as well as the new game dynamics. So I played alot of Casual, the placement matches put me at about mid platinum an I just chipped at it from there. It kind of helped that the game was new so people were just learning to deal with her superman punch etc. Worked my way to D4 an was there for months I wouldnt play Ranked because I was scared to lose points an rank down. My 15 year old son would keep telling me play ranked, I would do a couple matches lose then go right back to Casual. Finally the last couple months I snuck into D5. Starting fighting against more Master rank players an realize they arent as scary as I thought they would be.
So last night I made the final push, I would mess around on my phone while the match loaded it an made a conscious effort to not focus my eyes on my opponent rank, while still out the corner of my eye watching how much health they have left. An I wouldnt look at my points when I won, to help with me not being nervous. Then boom around 11:45 pm last night those magic words popped on my screen after I beat a AKI. I've been smiling like a kid on Christmas ever since. I fuckin did it!!
I'm at work doing nothing for the next 6 hours feel free to ask me anything, Im far from the greatest SF player, hell I'm ok with being the lost ranked Master player. But its nice that I can't rank back down now lol.

Breaking News tonight from the Apollo 11 memorial landing site, as Admiral Adam Vir and Captains Warren Richards and Mary Chavez were rescued from the Pacific Ocean, following a journey that was supposed to be historical, turned harrowing. Amy Grey comes to us this morning with the story.
Thank you Julie, it was only a week ago here on the historic Cape Canaveral launch site, that the reconstructed Saturn V rocket was launched by the UNSC International Space and Aeronautics Division on the two thousand and fifty first anniversary of the original Apollo 11 mission. On board The reconstructed rocket were astronauts Fleet Admiral Adam Vir, head of the UNSC deep space exploration division, Captain Warren Richards five year veteran and historical aeronautics expert, and Mary Chavez, six year shuttle pilot veteran, and communications specialist.
The reconstructed Saturn V rocket took off thirty minutes behind schedule at 10:03 GMT July 16 after delays attributed to engineering standbys. However, reports by UNSC investigation early this morning indicate that the delays were called for by engineering head Jade Clein who noticed something strange during her final checks of the Saturn V recreated rocket.
In an interview early today, flight director, Aaliyah Seif of the Apollo re-creation mission informed outlets that there was evidence of attempted tampering on the hull of the Saturn V rocket. The tampering case in the shape of these small silver tape strips covering loosened bolts along one of the Saturn V side panels. Engineers stated that the tape was not heat resistant and would have burned off in time to rattle the bolts loose and, likely, cause a devastating spin that would destroy the rocket.
While this attempted tampering was thwarted, the mission would only become more dire. A sudden and shocking report by Mericanda News 5 showed an uncut image of an unknown alien hybrid woman claiming that the UN President had ordered the attempted assassination of Admiral Vir, in conjunction with an audio recording by Admiral Colter Massie, Head of the Galactic intelligence division and known isolationist, that admitted to the attempted assassination of Admiral Vir, and the acquisition of twenty Thunderhawk’s, which were used to harry the Saturn V on its way to the moon. Admiral Kelly, longtime friend of Admiral Vir, corroborated the story, saying she caught General Massie just after he ordered the deployment of the twenty Thunderhawk’s. During their conversion, he attempted to kill her, before being detained by two members of Admiral Vir's crew, and was later seen being escorted into custody by Military Police.
Indeed, footage has been captured from the hull of the Saturn V, showing approximately twenty Thunderhawk’s attempting to destroy the rocket while Rundi remote piloted drones and an unknown group of what appear to be racing jets, fought back to delay the attack, while word was sent to the UNSC to deploy F-90 Darkfire pilots to assist. This all after communications between Houston and the rocket were sabotaged shortly after leaving orbit. The F-90 Darkfire pilots were able to arrive on time to rescue the rocket, though a hole was reportedly torn in the hull, sucking Admiral Vir out into space. Luckily, he was later recovered and returned to his ship without any injuries. Patch teams were then able to repair the torn hull and the astronauts completed their mission landing to crowds on the moon and returning to earth on time, landing in the Pacific Ocean only nine miles away from the waiting ship.
All three astronauts were recovered and are reported to be in good health.
The investigation into the UN president's involvement is still ongoing at this time, however preliminary reports from the Global Bureau of Investigation suggest evidence is both staggering and damning to the current UN president, who earlier today, attempted to cut all ties to the sabotage efforts, saying she was framed. Political experts report that, even assuming her innocence, she will likely not last to the end of her term.
International News Network was able to interview Admiral Vir shortly after his landing while still on board the rescuing ship UNSS Victory.
Here is what the Admiral had to say:
"I find it... Really very disheartening that someone we all trusted, and someone that we all should have looked up to could do something like this. It really is a heinous demonstration of what political corruption can lead people to do."
"And how do you feel, personally about all of this?"
"Personally, I... well to be honest I am hurt and appalled. Not to mention that I fear for the safety of my family and my friends. Every day I wonder if my involvement with them is going to get someone I love killed... The thought haunts me, but I hope after all of this is over I... and all of us can breathe a little easier."
"Were you scared?"
"I don't think that even needs to be a question. Of course I was scared, getting sucked out of your spaceship isn't ideal."
"What do you hope will happen now?"
"I hope that justice can be upheld to those who deserve it."
"What do you have to say to the UN president."
”...”
”So?”
"I have nothing to say. Wouldn't want to waste the air.”

What followed would be one of the largest scandals in recent political history. At some point an unknown number of classified government documents was leaked onto the internet, and after that it was all over for the Presidency. Thousands of enterprising humans, and aliens alike, viewed the documents to discover all the underhanded and dirty things which had been going on in the UN governmental body over the past few years. Forensic accounting experts (mostly Tesraki), uncovered plenty of fiscal tampering which shed light on plenty of isolationist related projects and bank accounts. There was even evidence that they had something to do with the original assassination attempt against Admiral Vir so many months ago. The drama had even managed to capture the attention of Rundi political experts and Vrul computer science geniuses, and together they unearthed a world of unfathomable, but not unexpected corruption. The process to remove the UN president from office was probably one of the fastest movements of human government ever seen by UN congressional leaders, who were likely trying their very best to distance themselves from association with the president, who despite not being the only one involved, had become the political scapegoat for everyone else that had a supposed link with isolationism.
Even the VP fell under suspicion and was watched closely for the rest of his term.
Admiral Massie and the UN President were placed under arrest and set up for court dates in the nearing future, though everyone saw a long and arduous litigation process ahead. Even Ramirez's family had filed for damages against the government after the news came to light, confirming that their son had been shot as collateral in one of the UN presidents plans to assassinate Admiral Vir. They settled out of court to the tune of an unknown, but impressive sum of money.
No one really knew how much, but a couple months later Ramirez's younger sister was seen training at one of the most prestigious Olympic academies on earth.
Ramirez himself was suddenly able to afford housing on the moon in a condo just next door to his best friend, though no one else inquired further.
The Rundi chairwoman came forward with her own investigation, admitting to being suspicious for a long time though she feared accusations without proper proof. Admiral Vir was seen having lunch with her not so many months after the events took place, suggesting that the trust between the two of them had not been completely dissolved. With much of the isolationist element gone from government, public policy began to lean heavily towards integration with the alliance. The occasional isolationist demonstration or protest was held, but none of them managed to gain traction.
Admiral Vir was finding himself more important than ever, though it was to his chagrin that his ship was grounded for the intervening months while the investigation continued.
No one was entirely sure what the future held.

Admiral Vir stepped into Admiral Kelly's office. The last time he had actually visited her here had been over a few years ago, before his promotion to captain of the Harbinger. It seemed so distant now, and he never expected to walk into her office with a star on his shoulder. She stood as he entered, and the two of them shook hands, ignoring all the stuffy formalities that usually come with the meeting of two military officers.
The wall behind her was decorated with a myriad of metals and awards she had received over her career, and he couldn't help but note the slight tinge of grey he could see forming in her hair. He knew that feeling, he was going prematurely white much to his chagrin. She stood and the two of them shook hands.
"Vir."
"Kelly."
She motioned him to sit, and he sat, sighing lightly as he had been on his feet all day consulting with political figures and other members of the UNSC.
"A strange couple months wouldn't you say?”
"Tell me about it."
Kelly reached under her desk and withdrew an amber bottle which she placed between them,
"I always forget; do you drink?"
"On occasion."
"Well consider this an occasion."
She said, popping off the top and pouring two glasses for them. She handed his across the desk and he leaned back in his seat cupping the cool glass in both hands.
She swirled the amber liquid around in her glass,
"So what are your plans after all this?”
He took a sip of water warmed by the burning liquid,
"Hoping things will go back to normal and I can go back to traveling the galaxy."
Kelly grunted,
"A simple man with simple motivations."
He laughed,
"Sometimes I think a stupid man with simple motivations."
She chuckled then grew serious,
"A lot of people make the mistake of assuming simple people don't have the intelligence to match. Some people assume that trusting means gullible means dumb. Just because we are trusting and expect others to do the right thing is not necessarily a fault. I believe there is a kind of beauty in assuming the fundamental goodness of humanity."
Admiral Vir shook his head,
"How can you after seeing what we have seen?”
"How can you not?"
She shrugged,
"We always knew that politicians were corrupt, but think about everything else we have seen."
Admiral Vir nodded slowly,
"The enthusiasm for the Apollo 11 recreation mission, the people who flew up to help us. All of those people who went digging through years of information just to uncover the truth."
She raised her glass,
"Precisely. Goodness in humanity is all around us, but we tend to overlook the good in favor of the bad."
She placed her hat on the desk and sighed,
"It is up to good people to keep their goodness going even when it might seem easier to give into the bad. I have and will always believe in the fundamental good of humanity. Some may call it naive, or even stupid. Others have said I have a romanticized view of a species that is fundamentally broken."
She turned her head to look out the window, a contemplative expression on her face before turning back to look at Adam.
"You understand me, I think."
He nodded slowly.
"People need to be believed in. You tell someone for long enough that they are fundamentally bad at their core and they will begin to believe you. For thousands of years pessimists have gotten it into our heads that we are no better than animals, worse even since animals don't fight in wars. But I believe that is wrong, I have seen people, I have met people, and I have interacted with people who prove to me that humanity cannot just be fundamentally bad or else these people wouldn't exist."
She tapped her nails against the glass,
"I think it is easier to corrupt purity than wash away a stain."
He listened quietly as she continued.
"Humans are born good, Adam, and life stains us. We aren't born stained while some of us are wiped clean."
She shook her head,
"Doesn't make sense to me."
She caught him with a look, pinning him to the spot with her intense stare,
"People like you convince me of this every day."
"Me!?..."
She held up a hand.
"Adam Vir, I am convinced that the best outcome this universe ever had, was when a happy go lucky science fiction freak was lucky enough to be the first man to meet aliens. Any other way things would have gone horribly wrong."
She leaned across her desk,
"The universe needs men and women like you, and not only that but the universe needs people who are going to support men and women like you."
She sat back,
"Which is why I have made a decision…"
He raised an eyebrow in curiosity, not entirely sure where this could be going.
She smiled,
"I have decided to run for UN President."
He nearly spit his mouthful of expensive scotch onto the table, but managed to choke it mostly down.
Eyes wide he set his glass down,
"Are you serious?”
She smiled,
"Seriously serious."
"Well shit, you have my vote for sure."
He raised his glass to her,
"I couldn't think of a better outcome."

Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

Hi everyone, I’m using a throwaway for this because I don’t want this attached to my main account. I hope this isn’t too blog-y or anything for this sub, I’ve just really needed to get all of this off my chest and I’ve been thinking about it a lot over the past few days. I also hope it can be a warning for anyone who sees it and has gone too far into the online system community.
This is a fucking novel and I apologize in advance. I just have a lot I want to get off my chest, and I also hope that it could potentially be educational to anyone in the system community hate-reading this sub.
Quick warning for brief mentions of suicidal ideation and self harm.
I’m 23 (turning 24) this year, and I started to believe I had DID in 2019, when I was 18 (about a month or so away from turning 19). I had just started college. For context, writing has been my main hobby ever since early childhood, and I was also into roleplaying my original characters. I was EXTREMELY connected to my characters, I basically thought about them all the time. I spent the majority of my free time developing them, thinking about them, and writing or roleplaying. I even wrote and roleplayed during high school in the middle of class.
I started to believe I had DID whenever I talked to someone else about it and started to feel like my connection to my characters was abnormal. My main thought process was that I was so attached to them that it actually affected how I behaved. For example, if I was fixated on a certain character, I would find myself acting more like them or dressing more like them. I also started to over-analyze past behavior; the main thing that came to mind were the times when I was 14 and I would “talk” to my characters in my head, and there was also a particular instance where my handwriting would change to look more like how I imagined a certain character’s handwriting.
I also started to overthink because I had both childhood trauma and (then-recent) trauma from my teenage years, and during those events, I always used writing and roleplaying to cope. I was already prone to dissociation and had an extremely overactive imagination.
Within a day or so of starting to think I had DID, I “switched.” Basically one of my characters “fronted” for a little over an hour, and then I came-to with barely any memory of that past hour. Of course, prior to thinking I had DID, I never had any large memory gaps or loss of memory that caused me or anyone else any type of concern. The only things I ever struggled to remember were things related to my trauma, which is normal (to my knowledge anyways).
So after this I became pretty convinced I had DID, and then I discovered DissociaDID within a few days of this. I thought she was a legitimate source of information and an accurate portrayal of DID, because before her, the only other portrayals of DID that I saw were either horror movie shit or very extreme cases. I saw myself a lot in her because she was around my age, queer (like me), and a little alternative in her presentation. So I binged her videos and this only further fed into my delusion.
This was all within the span of a week. I had therapy on that Friday so I talked to my therapist about it. I’d also like to note that my therapist had been seeing me pretty consistently since I was 12, and had never caught on to anything that could signal that I had DID. When I told him about everything I was experiencing, we looked at the DSM entry for it together, and he basically told me that he couldn’t diagnose me and he had no experience treating DID, but if I was experiencing everything that I said I was experiencing, I should try to find a specialist or a psychiatrist. He gave me a few numbers but I was too scared to contact them. I also never brought up DID or my “alters” again with him because I was too embarrassed to, even though I continued to see him for the next year or so.
I also got more involved with the system community, specifically on tumblr. I didn’t use tiktok and I tried to keep my more personal accounts like instagram separate from what I was going through because I didn’t want my family to find out. The next few months were really turbulent and I went through a lot of “splitting” (aka making new roleplay characters and then becoming convinced they were actually alters making themselves known to me), and at one point, I stopped the medication I was taking for my anxiety and OCD because it was making me gain weight.
I’m bringing up my OCD because I believe it was relevant in the DID symptoms I was experiencing. My doctor and my therapist both agreed that I had OCD, and my doctor prescribed me seroquel to treat it. If you don’t know, seroquel is an antipsychotic. I started it a few months prior to the whole DID shit. I think my OCD is relevant because I have a history of intrusive thoughts, especially with anything causing me stress, and I think the instances of my “alters” talking to me were really just intrusive thoughts related to my OCD. Even now, I got an intrusive thought in a different voice that said “why don’t you believe I’m real?”.
Anyways, I quit taking seroquel and my mental health got terrible, and I ended up dropping out of college a few months into my very first semester, which was a decision exacerbated by the fact that I was convinced I had DID. This was towards the end of 2019, and then ofc 2020 happened. I spent the vast majority of 2020 completely isolated except for my immediate family, like a lot of people, and I didn’t have a job or school, so I was just locked inside on the internet all the time and further fueling my DID delusion. Ironically though, I stopped going on system tumblr at all, and around mid-2020 I discovered the DIDcringe sub. Which is pretty fucking hilarious because I was a little active on there for a few weeks or so, and I HATED system tiktok, I hated the endo shit, I was just shitting on these people because I thought I was better. I considered myself “medically recognized” and better than everyone in those tiktoks because I didn’t have fictives from anything outside of my own characters, I didn’t cosplay, and for what it’s worth I actually did research DID and was distressed by my symptoms. So I thought this made me genuine and different from the tiktok and tumblr fakers. I was really disgusted by the impact of the DID trend and even tried to make a tiktok account dedicated to spreading accurate information about DID, which again is fucking hilarious because I was neck deep in the delusion myself, but I ended up deleting the account before I even made my first video because I got paranoid about my family finding it.
I ended up going back to college in the fall, which ofc was all online because of the pandemic, and around that time I also tried to reach out and join some system discord servers that didn’t allow endos. Even the anti-endo ones were full of the kind of shit you see on this sub, and in both of the ones I joined, I was one of the older members even though I was only 20 at this point. So I left both of them because they were both terrible. Then some more shit happened, my mental health got terrible again, I dropped out of college again, my DID delusion kept getting worse but now I had a superiority complex about it because I thought that I was better than the teenagers with 500 MCYT fictives.
2021 rolled around and my mental health was all over the place, I got a job, I planned on going back to college but I was in a shitty situation with therapy and I was getting worse and worse. Basically, I stopped seeing my old therapist (at his recommendation) because I wanted to try a different EMDR therapist. I started going to the different clinic, but they were worried about giving me EMDR because I told them about the DID symptoms and they had no experience with treating someone with DID. I stayed in regular therapy but I barely saw my therapist, and they ended up discharging me because I missed too many appointments due to the fact that they were online and my connection was usually shitty. So I had no therapy and I was getting worse until I almost attempted suicide in May 2021 and ended up in the ER. Part of the reason why I was in such a bad state was because I felt so alone and scared about what I thought was DID, and I was terrified of never being able to have a normal life.
After the ER, I ended up being able to go to an intensive outpatient group therapy program, which helped me a lot, but again I never talked about DID in group therapy because I was too embarrassed. I told my new psychiatrist about what I was experiencing, and he diagnosed me with PTSD, but he didn’t diagnose me with DID because he wasn’t sure if I had it. This didn’t deter me though because I was two years deep into the delusion that I had it, that I knew my own brain better than doctors, that nothing else could explain my symptoms. And I also thought that he couldn’t diagnose me after one brief visit anyways, so I continued to think I had DID.
I ended up going back to college that fall, and I did really well. Around 2022 I started to get involved with the more “scientific” side of system tumblr and followed a lot of anti-endo blogs. At one point I even made a syscourse blog and got kind of hyperfixated on it which was extremely bad for my mental health. I read a lot of papers about DID and even tried to read a book about it (First Person Plural) but my attention span was just all over the place and I couldn’t focus on it. But I considered myself relatively well-informed about DID, which makes this all even more embarrassing to me, because I couldn’t see my own bullshit.
The worst was when I started delving into RAMCOA uncritically, and due to the way the community talks about it, I started to become scared that I experienced something RAMCOA-adjacent and couldn’t remember. Specifically, I became fixated on this memory of going to my grandma’s church when I was three, and I couldn’t remember what I ended up doing during bible school, so I became convinced something bad could have happened. I had dread surrounding the memory, which I took as a sign that something bad happened, even though the dread was probably just from all the conspiracy theory shit I was reading about children being ritualistically tortured.
There’s not really a climatic end to all of this. I just stopped “switching” more and more, stopped hearing alters, and even when I did think I switched, I wasn’t fully disconnected from myself and still had most if not all of my memories of the switch. I noticed more and more that, during switches, my alters never acted completely independently of me, even if I was convinced I was someone else. For example, my fight or flight response is typically fawning, and during fights, my supposed alters (even the “angry” or assertive ones) would always fawn and act like me when I was panicked. I chalked it all up to me being “co-conscious” and “bleeding through.” But I could never do something completely different from what I would normally do, like yell at people or start fights or physically self harm.
My long term boyfriend and I broke up in 2023 and I also fell out of a friendship in 2023, which were both really stressful and upsetting events for me, but I started to think I didn’t have DID around this time because, if I was going through something this stressful and basically felt awful in every aspect of my life, wouldn’t I be splitting or at the very least switching more? But I wasn’t at all, if anything all of my symptoms started to go away even more. I stopped thinking about it and it all just kind of stopped in general.
I think there was a combination of things happening that made me convinced I had DID. I already had PTSD and dissociative tendencies, so that didn’t help at all. I’ve had dissociative episodes so bad that I couldn’t move. I have other mental illnesses that could explain the intrusive thoughts that I thought were alters. I have both body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria, as well as generally just a lot of self-loathing and hating myself, which fueled my desire to be literally anyone other than myself. I have an extremely vivid imagination and let my anxiety get carried away a lot. I also think I was just young.
So that’s how I lost five years of my life to thinking that I had a severe mental illness that I almost definitely don’t actually have. It’s had a very negative impact on my life. It made me isolate myself from my family and friends, the stress from it made me drop out of college twice. It made me suicidal. I don’t drive because, when I had time to start working on learning how to drive and getting my license, I was terrified I would switch behind the wheel and get into an accident, so now I’m nearing 24 and I can’t drive. It made me delay getting testosterone for my gender dysphoria because I thought that my dysphoria could be linked to just having alters of different genders, so I shouldn’t have transitioned because it could have been DID-related. It made me scared to write and roleplay because I thought I would end up developing introjects of more of my characters. It made me dissociate more heavily and actively indulge in dissociating and triggering myself because I thought it made me more “valid.” It also just made me so disconnected from myself that I barely even knew who I was for five years, I was just a shell of who I used to be and fucking miserable, while actively forcing myself to be other people to cope with the fact I hated myself. Which is ofc the worst way to cope with hating yourself.
I’m just so embarrassed now because I genuinely thought I was better than this and that I was above all of the people misinformed about DID. I even considered myself relatively well-educated on it. I guess that just shows that we can convince ourselves of wild shit. I wish I didn’t spend five years of my life actively making my mental illnesses so much worse, and I wish I didn’t fall into a community that not only enabled but encouraged it.
