Ledger-cli: Using commodities to track investment accounts

2024.05.16 21:04 bradland Ledger-cli: Using commodities to track investment accounts

I was happily plugging away with ledger-cli for all of my deposit accounts, and everything was going really great. Then I started on my brokerage and retirement accounts and I'm in a bit my head. I'd appreciate a head-check here.
I am entering my opening balances (I'm starting with 2023) by recording entries in the format:
2022/12/31 * Assets:Roth IRA Assets:Roth IRA 642.42345 FOOBAR @ $8.17 Equity:Opening Balances
I have a prices-db file with:
P 2022-12-30 00:00:00 FOOBAR $8.17 P 2023-01-31 00:00:00 FOOBAR $9.41
The account is configured to reinvest dividends, which I am recording like this:
2023/01/27 * FOOBAR Dividend Assets:Roth IRA $160.61 Income:Dividend 2023/01/27 * FOOBAR Reinvest Assets:Roth IRA $-160.61 Assets:Roth IRA 17.10728 FOOBAR @ $9.388400728
I'm exploring balance reports and want to make sure I'm doing this right:
When I run ledger bal -e 2023/02/01 two additional rows appear at the bottom of the output:
-------------------- $-160.61 17.10728 FOOBAR
I more or less understand this. The negative balance is from Income:Dividend, and the positive balance is the change in value for the Assets:Roth IRA account. These two offset, but because they are different commodities, an exchange rate must be applied. This view is useful for comparing to account statements that show my positions. I can cross-reference the number of shares held to ensure I have everything correct.
When I run ledger bal -e 2023/02/01 --exchange '$' one additional row appears at the bottom of the output:
-------------------- $0.37
This has to be due to the change in value of FOOBAR, but how do I know? Is there a way to tell ledger to enumerate the commodities associated with the change in value? I don't hold a ton of securities, but there are enough that I'd like to be able to break this out.
Lastly, I run ledger bal -e 2023/02/01 --exchange '$' --basis to compare the commodities in dollars at their cost basis so that I can be confident that everything balances. My accounts balance to zero as expected.
My plan is to update my prices-db file with entries at the end of each month. I don't need to track my portfolio daily, as I'm not trading. I would like to be able to generate monthly balance sheet reports though. Eventually I plan to compile these into trailing 12-month trended balance sheet reports.
Is this a sane approach? Am I setting myself up for pain? Part of me tells me I should just be recording account balances in $ based on quarterly statements, and not even bother with separate commodities. I lose monthly granularity this way though, which would be a bummer.

2024.05.16 20:50 WildCard_Jr Wanting to work on a YuGiOh x DnD tabletop campaign w/custom cards, but I don’t know what to do for effects

A few years ago, I saw a post on here from u/Natemysilva talking about an idea for a hypothetical YuGiOh/DnD tabletop game where combat is done with duels using custom cards, and that idea has been in the back of my mind pretty much ever since. I started working on my rules for it a while back before abandoning it, but recently I’ve wanted to get back to it and actually finish it. There’s a slight problem tho… I don’t really know much about DnD. Ive thought up a system that’s more simple than DnD’s to more easily combine it with YuGiOh, but I’m still kinda stumped on what effects to give the cards. My vision is to have each race/creature have their own deck with a play style based on their characteristics, but I don’t really have the knowledge to do that myself. So what I’m asking for is ideas for effects/overall play styles for the different races/creatures. I’d really appreciate the help! Here’s a rough outline of the rules I’ve come up with so far and how I’d want deck progression to go throughout the campaign:
-The game will mainly operate on a 2d6 system, mainly to keep things simple. Other dice may also be included
-Stats are also gonna be simplified a bit, so any sort of checks for puzzle solving or whatnot will be “make a 2d6 (insert stat) roll” (strength, magic, agility, etc). There may also be fewer stats than in DnD to, once again, keep things simple
-From the last point, I kinda want the card effects to incorporate these stat rolls. Something like “when this card is summoned, make a 2d6 (stat) roll for x effect”
The YuGiOh rules have also been tweaked a bit:
-Main Deck size is 30-40 cards, and Extra is a max of 10
-Life Points start at 4000 and don’t automatically reset between duels (so if you end a duel with 2500, you’ll start the next one at 2500). If your LP drops to 0 in a duel but your party still wins, you’ll be revived with 100 LP at the end of it
-Given the simplified nature of everything, I also want the effects to be fairly simple too. While I plan to go though every summoning mechanic throughout the campaign, I don’t want the overall complexity of the cards to go beyond, say, Edison Format levels of complexity
Once again, I’d appreciate the help with this, and if you have any ideas of tweaks that could be made to my current rules I’d love to hear those too

2024.05.16 20:49 KitSwiftpaw [LFA] Sarah Belmondo Lecarde, Dhampyr Vampyr Hunter

Backstory: Unlike most Dhampyr, Sara was born not of mortal mother and immortal father, but a mortal father and Immortal mother, with vampirism forced upon the mother in an act of betrayal and lies. Her mother, stricken with grief, carried Sara to term and raised her to be a proud vampyr hunter of the Lecarde clan, and added in lessons in vampyric abilities as well, using her new perspective to help teach her daughter. After discovering that the father was a distant relative as well, from a different family branch, Sara's middle name was added to "Show them just what their arrogance has returned to this world." Now a grown woman, Sara ventures out to collect 18 years of Child Support Payments, and thwart that necromancer's plans for good.
Appearance: Sara Lecarde is tall, impressively so, over six feet tall. She is muscular, but not incredibly so, her lean figure hiding supernatural strength. She wears somewhat fancy looking clothes under her armored shirt, which is made of animal hide and large lizard scales, and a fancy jacket over that. Unlike many of her predecessors, she favors darker colors. Midnight blues and Eggplant Purples, and Sanguine reds. (Think like a cross of Castlevania and Bloodborne)
Equipment: Sara carries several items with her everywhere. A polished steel mirror, several wooden stakes kept either on a bandolier or sheathed on the inside of her jacket, a flask or two of holy water, a small wooden shield for extra protection, a silver cross necklace that bears the image of a spiraling comet in the center, and a silver cane that hides a deadly secret, meant to evoke memories of a long missing clan, with the catch of a button and the flick of the wrist, the silver wires hidden in the cane go slack, segmenting it and revealing gleaming silver teeth as it lashes out as a whip. It's nothing compared to the Vampire Slayer of legend, but legends tend to be inflated... after all, a great weapon is useless in unskilled hands.

2024.05.16 20:43 daviej0nesl0cker ISO studying advice

Hi all! I’m just getting started studying for the MCAT (my test date is 8/17) and I’ve put together a brief plan of attack for how I plan to tackle this thing. I’d really appreciate any advice you all have to offer; I’m the first in my family to pursue a career in medicine, so sometimes it feels like I have nowhere to go for advice.
I took a half length BP diagnostic exam the other day and got a 504. Ideally, I’m shooting for a 515+ on Test Day; I plan to treat studying as my full time job over the next three months. I haven’t taken a psych or sociology course since AP psych in high school, so I definitely have room to grow in the P/S department. From what I’ve heard, improving in the P/S section isn’t too hard, so that’s giving me a little confidence boost. I also did pretty well in the CARS section and am relieved that it’s not my worst subject because I’ve heard that it can be difficult to improve.
I started content review a few days ago, after taking my diagnostic. I’ve been reading three chapters a day, taking the pre-chapter quizzes after completing each chapter to make sure I’m getting everything. My goal is to read each of the Kaplan books, cover to cover, in ~4 weeks. That way, I’ll have the remaining 2/3 of my study time to be doing practice problems and FLs, and if there are any glaring discrepancies in my understanding of content, I’ll have time to address them by going back through the books.
After finishing reading each day, I’ve been unsuspending the corresponding Anki cards from the newest Anking deck. I try to do Anki twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. I have the Jack Sparrow deck downloaded but haven’t started studying it because the formatting of the cards doesn’t really seem like it would be very conducive to my learning style.
My mom purchased the TPR 515+ course for me on Cyber Monday, so I’m planning to do that for exposure to test-like problems and maybe learn test-taking strategy. I’m planning on primarily sticking with Kaplan when it comes to reading just since the Anking deck doesn’t correspond with TPR. Once I get done with content review, I’m planning on breaking into the UEarth question bank, taking BluePrint FLs, and then beginning to use AAMC FLs once I’m closer to my test date. I think I also might have access to the AAMC question bank.
Okay, well that was a lot. Overall, I think I’m just nervous that I’m not approaching studying the right way. I’d really like to knock the MCAT out in one go, but testing in August would give me time to take it again and still apply in the same cycle if I’m not happy with my score. At the end of the day, I think that part of me is just looking to be told that everything will be okay.
If you’ve read this far and have recommendations about things that worked well for you — or things that didn’t help at all — I’d really appreciate hearing them. Thanks so much :)

2024.05.16 20:28 Difficult_Hair2491 Professor Leonard Calc 2 Supplement?

Calc I was not hard for me, but I know Calc 2 is significantly more difficult so I want to self study over the summer (I have 3.5 months) because I want an A in Calc 2. I heard that Professor Leonard is great, so I'm planning on watching all of that. But basically what practice can I use to supplement watching the vids? Does Khan Academy match with Leonard's lessons or is there a specific textbook he uses? What material can I work with when following/practicing after his lessons? Thank you :)

2024.05.16 20:24 tempmailgenerator Embedding Hyperlinks in RichText Emails via Excel VBA

Enhancing Email Communications with VBA

In today's fast-paced digital world, the ability to automate email communication stands as a pivotal efficiency booster for professionals across various industries. Leveraging Excel's Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to enhance emails not only streamlines workflow but also opens up a realm of customization options. One such customization is the integration of hyperlinks into RichText email bodies, a feature that significantly enriches the recipient's experience. This functionality enables users to direct recipients to additional resources, websites, or documents with ease, thus enhancing the communicative value of the email.
The process of embedding URLs into RichText emails via Excel VBA involves a blend of programming skill and understanding of email formatting principles. For individuals who regularly rely on Excel for data management and reporting, this capability can transform mundane email updates into dynamic, interactive communications. Beyond mere links, this approach allows for the creation of emails that are not only informative but also engaging, encouraging recipients to explore content further. By mastering this technique, users can elevate their email correspondences to new heights, leveraging the power of Excel VBA to create more impactful and resourceful email interactions.
Command Description
CreateObject("Outlook.Application") Initializes an instance of Outlook Application.
.HTMLBody Sets the HTML body content of the email.
.Display Displays the email draft window.
.To Specifies the recipient's email address.
.Subject Defines the subject of the email.

Delving Deeper into Hyperlink Integration

Embedding hyperlinks into RichText email bodies through Excel VBA offers a unique advantage for users seeking to automate and enrich their email communication. This capability goes beyond merely sending text-based emails; it allows for the inclusion of dynamic content, such as links to websites, online documents, or even email addresses, directly within the body of an email. The process leverages VBA's ability to interact with Outlook, enabling users to programmatically create, format, and send emails. This integration is particularly beneficial for businesses and individuals who regularly distribute newsletters, promotional content, or updates that require recipients to access online resources. By automating the process, users can save significant time and reduce the potential for errors associated with manual email creation.
The practical applications of this technique are wide-ranging. For instance, in a corporate setting, automated emails with embedded hyperlinks can be used to direct employees to internal portals, training materials, or important announcements. In marketing campaigns, hyperlinks can guide recipients toward landing pages, product listings, or survey forms, thereby increasing engagement rates and tracking the effectiveness of promotional efforts. Moreover, this approach enhances the user experience by providing immediate access to relevant online content. It's important to note, however, that while embedding hyperlinks adds value to emails, it should be done judiciously to avoid overwhelming recipients or triggering spam filters. Ultimately, the integration of hyperlinks into RichText emails via Excel VBA is a powerful tool that, when used appropriately, can significantly enhance the effectiveness of email communication.

Creating RichText Emails with Hyperlinks in Excel VBA

VBA in Excel
Dim outlookApp As Object Set outlookApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") Dim mail As Object Set mail = outlookApp.CreateItem(0) With mail .To = "recipient@example.com" .Subject = "Check out this link!" .HTMLBody = "Hello, please visit our website." .Display End With

Advanced Techniques in Email Automation

At the heart of automating RichText emails with Excel VBA lies the objective to streamline communication processes, making them more efficient and effective. This advanced technique is not just about sending emails but about creating a sophisticated email experience that can include formatted text, images, and crucially, hyperlinks. Such emails have a higher engagement rate because they provide a rich user experience and direct links to additional resources or actions. This method significantly benefits marketers, HR professionals, and project managers who need to communicate complex information and actions in a clear and accessible manner. By automating these processes, users can ensure consistent quality and tone in their communications, while also saving time that would otherwise be spent on manual tasks.
The flexibility of Excel VBA allows for customization that can cater to a wide range of scenarios, from simple notifications to complex newsletters with multiple links. This capability is particularly useful for sending bulk emails that are personalized for each recipient. Imagine sending out a company-wide announcement with links personalized to direct each employee to their specific documents or dashboards. Such personalized automation can dramatically increase the relevance and effectiveness of the communications, thereby enhancing engagement and action. However, it's important to navigate these advanced techniques with an understanding of email and web standards to ensure deliverability and to avoid spam filters, making this a skill set that combines technical prowess with strategic communication planning.

Mastering Email Automation with VBA

As we navigate the complexities of digital communication, the ability to automate and personalize emails via Excel VBA presents a significant leap forward in efficiency and effectiveness. This technique, which allows for the embedding of hyperlinks into RichText email bodies, is more than just a technical convenience; it is a strategic tool that can elevate the quality of communication. By automating the process, individuals and organizations can ensure consistent, engaging, and informative messages are delivered, tailored to the specific needs and interests of each recipient. Furthermore, the use of VBA to automate emails fosters a deeper connection with recipients through personalized content, driving higher engagement and action rates. Despite the technicalities involved, the essence of this approach lies in its ability to transform email from a mere communication tool into a powerful medium for engagement and information dissemination. As we continue to seek ways to enhance our digital interactions, the integration of Excel VBA into email communication strategies stands out as a beacon of innovation and effectiveness.

2024.05.16 20:24 MRUtutor Tutoring - Upgrading courses

Hey there!
My name is Kate, I am offering tutoring for some of MRU’s Academic Upgrading courses. These include:
*I have not taken Math 0132 myself, but I’m open to chatting about it. *I took CHEM 181, which is SAIT’s equivalent course to CHEM 0115.
Rate: $25/hour for both session hours and prep hours. However long your session time is, I spend an equal amount of hours preparing material (similar to a lesson plan) for us to cover during the session itself. So for a 1 hour session, I spend a 1 hour doing prep - making the total cost $50.
Payment is per session, delivered via e-transfer on the same day that the session takes place. There is no cancellation fee for a missed session.
Format: Regular sessions take place online via Google Meet, with an option of scheduling an additional, occasional in-person session. Such as an in-person exam review session prior to an exam.
Session Options - 1 hour session - 1x/week = $50/week - 1 hour session - 2x/week = $100/week - 2 hour session - 1x/week = $100/week - 2 hour session - 2x/week = $200/week
Group Sessions are available for study groups, where the learners would share the cost of a session.
Contact: If you are interested, please comment and/or send me a direct message and I will send you my contact information.
My Upgrading Transcript
About Me
I dropped out of high school when I was in grade 11, but decided to finally come back to finish my schooling via Academic Upgrading at MRU almost a decade later! I completed my own upgrading this past Winter semester and will be applying to UofC for Engineering when applications open in the fall.
So I understand from personal experience how daunting it can be to overcome various academic challenges: whether they are from the perspective of being a mature student returning to school after many years away, a student with a learning disability and/or struggles with mental health, or just generally overcoming previous negative experiences with school. Due to this, I am incredibly passionate about helping other students “learn how to learn” and fall in love with learning, like I have!
Experience
My tutoring journey began when I was taking Chem 181 online at SAIT last summer. I started an online study group for some classmates and I to meet up weekly, which organically turned into informal tutoring sessions. I loved doing them - I really fell in love with it! I gained so much personal fulfilment from feeling like I was doing something to make a tangible difference for my fellow student’s academic success.
This inspired me to sign up as a Learning Peer in the PLP program when I returned to MRU in the fall, where I received formal training and valuable experience.
As an LP for MATH 0115 my first semester, I received excellent feedback in both my peer evaluation and from my learners themselves, along with a Learning Peer Award. I learned so much - I do my best to follow researched learning practices in my sessions, such as Varied Practice and Spaced Practice. I try to have my learners guide sessions as much as possible in terms of content and learning activities. I am passionate about receiving earner feedback regarding how I can improve. It is important to me that my learners to feel like our sessions are a productive use of their time.
In my second semester, I tutored groups in CHEM 0130 and MATH 0131 - along with taking some additional training through the PLP program. I improved as a tutor and received extremely positive feedback from my learners and in my 20-hour staff evaluation. I was awarded both a Learning Peer Award and an Outstanding Contribution award.
I have completed almost 50 session hours as an LP over the course of the 2 semesters, with nearly 70 total volunteer hours - which includes hours spent in training.
References In the PLP program, Learners can provide anonymous feedback for their LP during mid and end semester evaluations. Mine include:
“Kate has been absolutely wonderful, I wouldn’t be doing so well in my class if it weren’t for her”
“I feel like Kate is devoted to us and our improvement”
“I’ve had an excellent experience so far. Kate is doing a great job!”
“Kate is really thorough in going through problems and concepts step by step and explaining each in a more detailed way then we did in class.”

2024.05.16 20:07 willowthewisp1991 First name change

Hey all, just looking for some motivation, support, and maybe clarity haha. The background story is that my parents could not agree on a name for me. They ended up putting both of their choices in my name- one is my first name and one is my middle name- and calling me by the name they prefer, from birth. What this means is that one parent from the get-go has called me “Sarah” and one has called me “Beth” (not my real names). They then proceeded to get divorced. What this has meant for me is that I virtually grew up being one name at my mom’s house and one name at my dad’s house. The name my mom calls me “Sarah” has been what I’ve largely (like 95% of people in my life) been called. “Beth” has only showed up in a small subset of my life. Nonetheless, being called two names in my formative years by parents who expected different things from me did leave me with a bit of a name crisis. Maybe even an identity crisis…Am I Beth or am I Sarah? WTF?
The name I go by most often is extremely common. As an example I recently went to a women’s book club of 14 ladies and was the FOURTH person by this name. I also went to a different social event (also all women) and in a group of 10 I was the THIRD person by that name. I’ve been running into other “Sarah’s” my whole life and it has always annoyed me. I’ve always entertained the idea of going by my less common middle name.
I tried when I interviewed for graduate school to go by my middle name but I kept on messing up my introduction- I was so used to saying my other name- and I ended up jumping ship out of embarrassment and fear of how much effort it would take. Now I’m in my early 30’s and just took the plunge again. I’m going by my middle name in some social groups and by some of my family members. It’s only been a few months.
I’m running into significant anxiety about it all. I’m ruminating over whether people think I’m going through some big identity crisis (I’m still myself and I don’t want people to THINK that I am in crisis haha). And, I’ve run into something I didn’t expect: my middle name doesn’t feel super natural to go by from people that aren’t my dad! What? Hearing it come out of my husbands mouth just sounds…weird. Introducing myself has become easier the last few weeks but I feel a sense of imposter syndrome. The name doesn’t fully feel mine, even though I’ve gone by it my whole life.
Most of my friends I’ve told have taken to calling me by my middle name easily and I have felt some support. I asked some people for their opinion early on without much feedback other than “if it’s what you want, then cool” or just silence. And now, I’m wishing that people would have been honest with me early on when I was fishing around for feedback, because recently when discussing all this with someone close to me I started to feel like I don’t have the support I need to do this. I was told that I don’t really “feel” like a “Beth” to them. And it also came out that “yeah, people are probably thinking you’re having an identity crisis”. Naturally I’m second guessing it all! Im afraid of what people are thinking. Should I do my thing without fear of judgement? Ideally, yes. But it’s been tough on this one, especially since I’m feeling a little disconnected from my middle name as well. Is this just a rough patch? My plan at the moment is to stick it through for a few months more and then decide if I want to keep going or revert back to my first name.
In the meantime I’d love some insight from others, and honest thoughts about adult name changes. Maybe all the judgements I’m fearing are mostly in my head, and maybe I’ll get used to my middle name?

Enhancement in The Final Shape

During the Lightfall year, players have gotten a taste of weapon enhancement with the raid Adept weapons from Root of Nightmares and Crota's End. In The Final Shape, you'll see that this system has undergone some upgrades, making enhancing your weapons easier and allowing us to comfortably expand this system to include more weapons. Here’s a quick recap on how weapon enhancement will work alongside some of the changes:
  • Weapon enhancement allows the weapon to be upgraded to receive enhanced traits, a weapon level, and a memento socket. To upgrade your weapon, players can navigate to the inspection screen and insert the enhancement tier mod for standard currencies (raid Adept weapons will continue to use Spoils of Conquest).
Image Linkimgur
  • Enhancement Tier 1:
    • Replaces your Masterwork and provides the weapon with an enhanced intrinsic that matches the stat of your old Masterwork.
    • Provides a weapon level, a date when you first enhanced the weapon, and a memento socket.
    • Raid Adepts only: Since these weapons have a base-crafted version, we want the Adept versions to feel like a meaningful upgrade. Therefore, these weapons can visit the Relic on Mars to adjust their first two columns (typically barrels/magazines) in a similar fashion to how crafted weapons can augment these perk columns.
  • Enhancement Tier 2 (weapon level 11 requirement):
    • Once the player inserts this mod, the left column trait(s) will automatically be upgraded to their enhanced perks. If you have multiple perks, this will update all traits in the column. Players will not need to visit the Relic on Mars to update these traits anymore.
  • Enhancement Tier 3 (weapon level 17 requirement):
    • Once the player applies this mod, the right column weapon trait perks will automatically be updated to be enhanced. Like the left column, this will upgrade all of the traits present and does not require visiting the Relic.
Image Linkimgur
We've heard the feedback that weapons should have more avenues to acquire enhanced traits. In The Final Shape, all new weapons will either be craftable or have access to weapon enhancement. In addition, weapons that remain active drops in the following activities will be eligible for enhancement:
  • Vow of the Disciple raid Adepts
  • Guardian Games
  • King's Fall raid Adepts
  • Gambit
  • Competitive Crucible (all of them)
  • Trials of Osiris
  • Crucible
  • Iron Banner
  • Vanguard Ops
  • Nightfalls
  • Prophecy Dungeon
This will include older instances of these weapons, as long as they have an origin trait. Unfortunately, due to some technical constraints, there are a handful of weapons instances from before Season 17 that have origin traits and are active drops, but they will not be eligible for weapon enhancement. If a weapon is not actively dropping in these activities and playlists or it’s under the legacy focusing options, it will not be enhance-able when The Final Shape releases. If weapons are reissued and become a part of a playlist's active drops once again, we'll update older versions that have origin traits to enter weapon enhancement.

Mementos in The Final Shape

We've received a lot of feedback on weapon mementos, especially as new mementos have released in our seasonal events. In The Final Shape, we have a few changes coming that impact how you store mementos and apply them to your weapons.
  • Crafted and enhanced weapons will no longer need to visit the Relic on Mars to apply mementos. Players can apply the memento of their choosing directly in the weapon inspection screen.
  • Memento stack cap limits will be raised from 1 to 3.
  • Mementos will no longer be stored alongside the player's consumables. When The Final Shape launches, your mementos under consumables will show as faded. Then, once the faded memento is dismantled, you'll see +1 memento added in the weapon inspection screen as a virtual currency. For players who figured out how to get around the original memento stack size limits, this will allow you to dismantle all those mementos safely, even if you temporarily go over the intended stack limit of three. If you are holding three (or more) of a particular memento, it will not drop again until you spend your mementos to be under the stack size limit of three.

Reduced Fragment Costs at Ikora In The Final Shape

Subclass Fragments purchasable from Ikora are expensive, particularly considering how many there are, especially for New Lights. In The Final Shape, we have reduced the cost of Fragments from 25000 Glimmer to 10000 Glimmer. Our goal here is to make these vital build-crafting elements more accessible for new and returning players.

The Pantheon Grows Stronger

Another week, and your task has become more difficult, Guardians. Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness, has joined The Pantheon, and we’ve gathered intel for your mission.
VANGUARD – GUARDIAN DISPATCH – ALL POINTS BULLETIN
DEFENDERS OF THE CITY,

CLASSIFICATION
  • The last-known Lubraean
  • First Disciple of the Witness
  • Other names: The Upender, Worm Father
  • Dread
  • Resonant
HAZARDS
  • Darkness mastery
  • Immeasurable strength and durability
  • Powerful Lubrae’s Ruin Glaive
  • Suns of Lubrae attack and debuff
  • Savage Strike kick
  • Umbral Suffocation attack
  • Teleportation
  • Resonant Spikes area effect
  • Guardians rated Sigma-3 or lower are advised not to engage
INTEL
  • Rhulk was born on the planet Lubrae, a world originally blessed by the Traveler that spiraled into an authoritarian regime when the Traveler left. Fueled by rage, Rhulk sought to destroy the regime, but his bloodlust led to being ostracized from his clan. Eventually, afraid of what he’d become, his clan attempted to kill him.
  • Decrypted records from the Pyramid indicate that the Witness made contact with Rhulk during this time, restored him, and empowered him as the first Disciple. Rhulk took his vengeance on Lubrae, annihilating its parent star and destroying the planet.
  • Vanguard power assessments place Rhulk far above any previous enemy faced by any Guardian. Battle scholars theorize the bold fireteam that stormed the sunken Pyramid only prevailed due to Rhulk’s humoring a fight to begin with. But prevail they did.
OF NOTE
  • Hidden cipher-sequences buried in the symbols throughout have been decrypted by a pioneering Cryptarch, thanks to countless fireteams keeping the way clear. The solved sequence is believed to be astronomical coordinates to Lubrae. (Probe dispatched… awaiting arrival.)
  • The creation of the Hive was majorly influenced by Rhulk. The first Disciple of the Witness subjugated the Worm mother, Xita, and forced her spawn into union with the Krill, which led to the Hive species and the Hive Gods themselves.
  • Cryptarchs have uncovered communications between Rhulk and Savathûn in which Savathûn derides Rhulk’s simplicity as a tactician. According to the Witch Queen, the first Disciple only values strength, and his downfall will be his brute force approach to every situation.

Zero Hour Exotic Mission Is Live

Image Linkimgur
The Zero Hour Exotic mission is now live. If you haven’t jumped in yet, you can find it in the Into the Light node in the Director. Completing the mission in the required timeframe will earn you the Outbreak Perfected Exotic Pulse Rifle.
As we mentioned last week, we’re celebrating the release by asking you to share your favorite moments with TR3-VR. Post your favorite art, screenshots, videos, or memes — anything that shows your love for our favorite overly attached robot. Just use the hashtag #MyFriendTR3VR. We’ll be giving our favorites an Art or Movie of the Week emblem and sharing your creations in a future TWID.

DESTINY CONTENT VAULT UPDATES

With the start of Year 7 of Destiny 2, on June 4 certain items will be deprecated from player inventories that correspond with vaulted activities and seasonal campaigns. They will then be moved into the Destiny Content Vault.
We have updated the Destiny Content Vault article to reflect these changes and created a new article fully outlining Items Being Deprecated at the Start of Year 7 for players to reference.

PARENTAL CONTROLS

Parents, guardians, and other responsible adults are now able to adjust their child’s Destiny 2 settings.
To set up parental controls, both the child and their adult need a Bungie.net account, and we will need to verify that the person providing consent and setting controls is an adult. We have created a Parental Controls Help article with details explaining how to create an account and instructions on linking it to your child's.
We have also updated our privacy policy. Please visit Bungie.net to create or manage your account and set your preferences today.

KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:
  • Capturing a zone in the Collision PvP game mode while having full super energy will slightly reduce Super energy.
  • Tormentors can push turrets away in Onslaught with their slam or grab attacks.
  • The Zero Deaths Triumph only unlocks when completing Zero Hour on the Legend difficulty, which should unlock on both Normal and Legend difficulties.
For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article.
If you observe other issues, please report them to our #Help forum.

2024.05.16 19:48 Uno_Sarcagian You guys should think very carefully before you involve legislators in video games

tl;dr:
I'm ready for the flurry of downvotes, but I'm skeptical that having legislators involved in regulating video games will bring anything but misery. I've read the FAQ on what seems to be the official website for the movement, and I can't say my concerns were much alleviated, but maybe you guys can clarify.
I get that this movement is very attractive in theory. Who wants to see games they've paid for and enjoyed get shut down? But once you involve regulators, you need to be prepared to deal with unintended consequences. For example, let's say we pass a regulation that all games as a service must provide a patch when shutting down that allows the game to live on in some fashion. If I'm an indie game developer with a couple of AWS credits who wants to try out a concept for an online game, am I going to run afoul of these regulations? A game like Palworld might never face the light of day if facing increased regulatory burden. The people you're targeting are the big corporations, but small businesses are always the ones to suffer from red tape, and often in ways that are not possible to predict.
Do we even trust legislators to find the nuance on this issue? Having read the FAQ, even I'm not sure what the solution would look like as someone who has played video games my whole life. We've established that the solution would need to be tuned correctly to avoid impacting small businesses, and the FAQ points out that we can't expect publishers to keep their online games alive forever. If the people writing the petitions can't define how to protect live service games without holding publishers at gunpoint to maintain them indefinitely, how can we expect some out of touch lawmakers to do it?
Further, I would ask how much of this is really a problem to begin with, and whether this is an issue that might solve itself given time. Gamers seem to be well aware that the live-service model is fraught with issues, and know exactly which publishers are likely to be untrustworthy. This whole thing seems to have started over Ubisoft's The Crew. There's hardly a less trustworthy publisher, and indeed Skull and Bones released as a complete flop. Gamers recognized a live service game where the rug was likely to get pulled out from under them and were savvy enough to avoid it. If nobody is playing these games, why are we forcing companies to devote additional resources by patching or maintaining them? These games are dying for a reason, and even if you don't believe in voting with your wallet (though it does, just look at Helldivers), you can easily avoid these pitfalls by not buying. Really, there are much better games out there than those made by Sony and Ubisoft, and even they seem to be slowly moving away from live service.
As for games that ARE in demand, preservationists seem to do a good job maintaining those. They may run up against a cease and desist, but there's a lesson to learn here: Copyright law and other regulations don't exist to protect consumers or enthusiasts. In practice, they invariably serve the large corporations that you're trying to hold to account.
I've seen one argument that since you're effectively buying a license, even offline singleplayer games could be revoked from you in theory. Not only would actually doing this be a massively unpopular move, but as an unintended benefit of piracy, pretty much every modern offline video game has been successfully preserved.
I'm not saying you guys don't have a legitimate issue. I'm asking you to explore your options before opening the pandora's box of legislation. You should demand transparency from vendors about what you're actually buying. You should ask CMs what the legacy support plan is for when live service ends. Before you run to consumer rights legislation, be a smart consumer first. Once you get the lawmakers involved, you might be sorry you did.

2024.05.16 19:37 No_Fact_499 No. 6 Lamb Crescent - Coming of Age/Family Drama (147)

A couple months ago I posted saying I just finished my first ever script while here it is ready to present. FIRST THING TO NOTE, is this is an adaptation of Grey Space, by noaacat. https://archiveofourown.org/works/12424344/chapters/28275021, so the story credit can't go to me too much. I'd say at most 20% of the story is my contribution. And if you want I would recommend reading the original work because it is quite amazing.
Here is the logline: When a young, mistreated orphan starts secondary school, he tries his best to go by unnoticed, but his plan is foiled by a girl with a similar past to him, who decides that they should be friends.
For feedback, I know a first draft is supposed to be long, but I feel that 147 pages is excessive. So anything on what could be cut, improving pacing, or anything of that sort is appreciated. Of course any small mistakes and editing/formatting errors are of course welcome. And any notes on the plot or anything of that nature is appreciated because there could be many things wrong with it and I have gone back and forth on the endings many times.
I thank anyone who decides to read or give feedback on the script because I know we are all incredibly busy, so really I am thankful for all feedback or support I might get.

2024.05.16 19:36 sigmapilot How much ground school with CFI? (PPL)

How many hours of ground school did you do with your CFI leading up to PPL?
I don't want to be that student who shows up only wanting to fly and never do theoretical study but I also don't want to pay for CFI hours for something I could accomplish on my own, just trying to find a baseline.
I have seen wildly different assertions, from "0, just do sporty's on your own, get your written done before you show up" to really high seeming numbers. (I'm through the majority of the Sporty's course, studying PHAK/AFM/AIM etc as well, planning to schedule soon)
I am at ~4 and a 1/2 hours right now. I understand there is preflight inspection, going over the lesson on the ground, and then postflight debrief with CFI, and eventually I will go over any potential missed questions from the written exam and prepare for the oral exam with the CFI as well. My school is both part 61/141 and even for part 61 (what I'm doing) has stage checks including an oral stage check prior to solo which to me seems like good practice.
Outside of that, should I expect any significant amount of ground school? I see a lot of people talk about "ground school" only in reference to the written test.
The receptionist/administrator at my school really tried to sell me on doing ground school with them specifically for the test when I first enrolled, which I had to firmly say no to a few times. My CFI recently recommended we get a couple ground sessions in on days where we have weather cancellations, and specifically referenced FAR 61.105 and 61.107. It seems to me .105 is just the written test which I can do on my own while .107 has been referenced in this sub before as the FAA being stricter about seeing specific logged ground school time with CFI and merely a Sporty's endorsement not being adequate for a checkride.
Anyways, how many ground sessions did you do, and at what point in your training(pre-solo, post-solo, leading up to checkride)?

2024.05.16 19:33 CJ_Lvl Question about maps 15

So I am finishing my last week of phase 2 for the advanced version. Each workout takes me about 12-13 mins even in the advanced version. Throughout the day I do random pull ups but nothing really besides that. There are 7 sets per day and it calls for a minute rest between each set.
I hear all the time on the podcast the guys mention that the advanced version takes about 25 mins to finish. Am I missing something in the workout guide?
I love the short workouts and it does work better for my lifestyle at the moment but I feel like I’m missing something in the workout.
My plan in phase 3 is to do the sets with 2-3 mins in between bc the big lifts seem to be like a 5x5 format. But it still calls for 1 min rest time even for those.
Can anyone with any experience let me know how they did it or if I’m misunderstanding the workouts?

2024.05.16 19:30 shatternana2005 I feel so lost and a failure

i'm gonna try and keep this short, but i hope i get some detailed responses - ones that aren't too harsh because i am very self aware about my flaws, i dont need any more criticism.
I am (18,F) currently in exam season of A-levels, and well, im doing horribly. I reverted to islam about a year ago and its literally the only thing thats keeping me going (im not suicidal but im just so so tired and drained), and even at that i'm doing horribly at.
To put breifly, my discipline, confidence and motivation has depleted completely during these 2 academic years. I have gone through so much, yet nothing at all, because when i put everything into perspective it was me that has let myself down so much. My friends say i have imposter syndrome because of how much i blame myself, but honestly, if i had just sucked up my emotional self and put my head down into my studies without caring about my social life, then maybe i wouldnt be a failure right now. If i set down my priorities straight, maybe i wouldve been ok. But then, when i try to put this in practise when i have a burst of motivation, i just cant do it because i dont have a passion or really like any of my subjects. My teachers were also quite horrible towards me (e.g. one of them told me they didnt care about my mental health), so it just adding onto me being unable to push myself. There's so much else that goes into this but no ones here to read a biography about me. Anyways.
I try to be a good muslim and i understand this isnt easy but damn i am horrible. I try to pray 5 times a day, but sometimes theyre late, sometimes i miss them because im overwhelmed with everything or don't feel worthy enough to pray, sometimes i try to wake up for fajr but just end up falling back asleep, sometimes everything goes amazingly well for 2 weeks and then im back down to being useless. I try to listen to quran, i try to recite, i try to listen to lectures and i try to put all my faith into Allah (swt) but why do i feel so unsincere? I feel selfish when i asked for a good future when im not putting enough work in, i feel selfish relying on Allah (swt) when im lazy, i feel selfish asking for things to get better when i dont deserve for it to get better once i have proved myself to Him that i deserve it.
Now, im hating on myself too much and displaying myself as some next coach potatoe but don't think of me as entirley this way. I do try, believe me, in GCSEs i was the top performing student in my 'requires improving' rated secondary school. My grades were so good that i was able to attend one of the best sixth forms. But so much happened to me these past 2 years like i even went into therapy for a bit and i've completely failed myself and my family. i used to be that little girl hoping to go to an amazing university and now im wondering how i'll be able to even pass my A-levels.
I feel like an absolute failure. In my studies, religion, to my family, to my younger self. I know i can retake but i cant imagine myself going through something as traumatic as this again. I will nevertheless, if i am unable to get into my firm uni.
i sound so dramatic without full context but anyways. What im hoping to get from this is some islamic advice to make myself feel better. Perhaps some verses, hadiths or just in general Dawah (i think thats what its called please correct me if im wrong in using this terminology) to increase my confidence and reliance on Allah and His plan and lessons/teachings, as well as advice on improving myself e.g. finding my passion, increasing my confidence, acceptance - if you can relate it to islam that'd be great.
Sorry this is so long and i hope i have made sense because i've been crying typing this all up. Thank you :)

2024.05.16 19:30 Illustrious_Leg1459 Long Term Sub to End of Year/ Year End Classroom Cleanup

I am long term subbing in middle school art (5-8th grade) art through the rest of the year because the current teacher had a baby. She has also decided to be a stay at home mom and is not coming back to teach. As part of my assignment I was tasked with end of the year cleanup of the room. I have been slowly cleaning and organizing everything in the room for next years new art teacher. The room is incredibly messy with random supplies in just about every drawer and cupboard. How much old art should I purge in an effort to clean up. I am taking this rather seriously because I personally would hate to take over in job where everything is a total mess. I have already taken several good examples of each art project and organized the few lesson plans I have found in different drawers (sometimes different parts of the lesson plan were in different drawers around the classroom!!) I have also handed back as much art as l could but there are entire drawers filled with art that was never handed back, most still in the class folder! What would you want if you were starting in a new classroom/school? Should I take off the posters from the wall and put them away so the new art teacher can make the room how they want? What do I do? Any advice is very appreciated.
As a side note I would like to say that I just graduated in January with a Physical Education/ Adapted PE/Health/Coaching/Outdoor Adventure degree. While I do quite a bit of art in my free time I don’t know what sort of environment is normal for a new teacher to step into.

2024.05.16 19:29 InventiveSteps #50 to #60 (#60 being a re-completion of Stardew Valley)

#50 to #60 (#60 being a re-completion of Stardew Valley)
  1. Lighthouse Keeper: I uh, didn't like this. There's an interesting idea or two here but it's just too clunky and unfinished. I was glad to be done with it.
  2. Cube Escape Paradox: I love these games. This wasn't my favourite, but it's a solid entry in the series.
  3. Neighbours back from Hell: This seems to get a lot of love from fans who remember playing it as kids. I didn't play it as a kid and have no such nostalgia. If you didn't either, I'd suggest giving it a miss.
  4. Rusty Lake Roots: This is probably my favourite in this series. It's between this and Hotel.
  5. Slime Rancher: My plan had been to play this over a few days off work and maybe into a weekend. Instead I got sucked in and really enjoyed exploring the world and spent more time in it than I expected. The rush mode challenges aren't too awful. Took me three tries to get gold.
  6. Harmony's Odyssey: saccharine sweet puzzle game. I liked it as a quick, chill distraction, but it crashed a lot on me.
  7. Arcade Spirits: Not sure I've played anything quite like this before but I loved it. Finding out the stories for all of the characters really kept me engaged, and it made me want to go and hang out in an arcade again (which I did, and lost more hours to playing irl pinball than I'm proud to admit).
  8. Aground: Such a great game. I wish I could play it again without knowing what was going to happen. It's still amazing to me that it isn't more popular.
  9. Wytchwood: This has an intriguing story but it badly damaged by not better hiding the fact that it's effectively a protracted list of fetch quests. The music is good though.
  10. Stardew Valley: I finished this for the first time last year. When the 1.6 update came out with more achievements I didn't even mind. It took a little grinding to get back to 100% but for one of my favourite games (and without having to do Factor's challenge again) I was happy to do it.
...and it sounds like I'll be back down to 59 again in a few days when the Apico update comes out. Good thing that's another favourite.
(Apologies for any formatting issues, for some reason I couldn't post from my laptop, so I'm putting this together on my phone. I might see if I can tidy it up via my laptop once it's posted.)

2024.05.16 19:09 BGodInspired What Does David's Anointing Teach Us About God's Choice and Our Potential?

https://bgodinspired.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/1715878715.png

The Dawn of a King: An Unforgettable Anointing

Have you ever witnessed a moment so pivotal that it feels like the very course of history is changing before your eyes? The anointing of David by Samuel is one such moment, a divine appointment that reshapes the destiny of a nation. This stirring account, found in the heart of 1 Samuel 16, is not just a historical event but a powerful lesson on God’s sovereignty and the importance of character over outward appearances.

Understanding the Why: Samuel’s Divine Mission

Before we dive into the anointing itself, let’s set the stage. Why did Samuel anoint David in the first place? The answer lies in the failure of King Saul, the first king of Israel, who disobeyed God’s commands. This disobedience led God to seek a man “after his own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14), which set the scene for Samuel’s pivotal mission to the house of Jesse in Bethlehem.

The Unlikely Choice: David, the Shepherd Boy

Upon arriving in Bethlehem, Samuel is met with Jesse’s sons. Yet, as he views each of Jesse’s impressive sons, God reminds him, “Do not consider his appearance or his height… The LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). In an unexpected turn, God’s choice is revealed to be the youngest son, David, a mere shepherd boy. This choice underscores a profound biblical truth: God values character and the heart above all else.

The Anointing of David: A Moment of Divine Favor

The anointing of David is both simple and profound. With no grand audience, in the presence of his family, David is anointed by Samuel. This act, involving the pouring of oil over David’s head, symbolizes God’s special choosing and empowering of David for kingship. It’s a vivid demonstration of how God exalts the humble and shifts destinies in quiet, yet profound ways.

From Pasture to Palace: The Journey Begins

David’s journey from the pasture to the palace is nothing short of extraordinary. Despite his anointing, David returns to the fields, continuing his duties until the time was right. His eventual rise to kingship is a testament to patience, divine timing, and the unfolding of God’s perfect plan. It teaches us the value of faithfulness in small beginnings and the assurance that God’s purposes will prevail.

Applying David’s Story to Our Lives

The story of David’s anointing is rich with lessons for us today. It serves as a reminder that God sees beyond our appearances and qualifications; He looks at the heart. It encourages us to cultivate humility, faithfulness, and a heart aligned with God’s will. Indeed, in God’s kingdom, the last often become first, and the humble are exalted.

Join the Adventure: Dive Deeper into the Bible

This account is just one of many that reveal the depth, intrigue, and transformative power of the Bible. 2024.05.16 18:55 Mayafoe [Spoiler discussion] All things Hayt, before and after - can't say more - can't put spoilers in the titles! :)

[Edit...obviously SPOILERS here....read at your peril! :) ]
I feel like I should meditate before writing this....
I audiobook GEOD before I sleep each night. I was listening to the ritual of 'Siaynoq', the sharing, the adoration of the GE....and a whole lot struck me about Duncan Idaho (well, that ghola of that time, and all the others before him). He is very much the witness of the scene....witnessing the awesome power of Leto's creation, an utterly fanatical, worshipful, Universe-wide female army of Fishspeakers.....and I realised how integral Duncan Idaho is to this Universe.
I'm not sure I can put this all into words:
Leto continues having a Duncan Idaho in his millennias-long life for so many reasons, some obvious and explicit (his breeding program, companionship, a 'connection to the past')....but, taking Leto's prescience into account there are a few more:
Leto knows that somehow a Duncan Idaho is integral to his own death....but...because all the gholas form a kind of continuum, he can't tell which one will do it......AND HE STILL CONTINUES HAVING THEM PRODUCED BECAUSE BEING KILLED (A SURPRISE!) IS PART OF HIS PLAN!
He still loves his Duncans, every one, delighting every time in encouraging their mind of awakening to what he is trying to do, to bring their minds to the necessity of his predation on a free society and the lesson that predation will teach when it ends through the right Duncan's efforts.
Mindblowing! That Leto knows a Duncan will help kill him is even more incredible when also, as a reader, realising that Leto makes each Duncan, by far, the 2nd most powerful person in the universe every time he brings one into existence.
During the feast of Siaynoq what is happening is Leto is creating a bind between the Fishspeakers and Idaho so that the billions and billions of Fishspeakers renew their loyalty to Duncan even as he pledges loyalty to Emperor Leto. "WE SHARE! WE SHARE!"
Why?
Because....Leto knows that when he dies the Fishspeakers will always have a leader to follow. "Male armies are only answerable to themselves.......but female armies attach to a leader"
and he always makes sure they have two leaders, Himself, who has been there for 3000 years and a Duncan, who in a way is also always there, someone who will always be ready to fully lead them, for them to follow unwaveringly when Leto, as he knows he will, passes on.
The God Emperor's vision is so vast....but by his own admission, not infinite!
As a personal aside recently there was a post about 'who is your favourite Dune character' and I'd like to take this moment to say I most identify with Duncan Idaho (though Leto II is my favourite character, how could he not be?), though I certainly don't connect with him due to any inherent talent with the ladies......
I identify with Idaho because he has been killed and reborn so many times, each time in a state of confusion....so many lives lived....his experience smeared and mixed and, dare I say it, distilled and improved....
I loved in Children of Dune when we see the true power of a mentat's mind through his eyes.....and was so moved when those metal eyes are brought to tears at the loss of his love, Alya, taken by possession. Herbert's use of tears in this water-crucial story is exceptional. When Leto sheds tears of love to Hwi they burn his skin, but he is grateful for the pain, grateful he is still human enough to cry.
We all die many times in life, and are reborn. Where is the child we once were? Where is that person who suffered a trauma and survived it? Where is that old home where we once lived? Who are we? How did we arrive here? What do I do now, not quite ever knowing the answers to those questions?

2024.05.16 18:55 TopChook Observation pressure

Our SIP visited yesterday, I was told to expect him at any time in the morning. Fair enough, my lessons were all planned out for the day as usual. I was observed for 25 minutes by the SIP, HOD, and assistant head then I found out I was the only person in the school who was observed. The SIP was looking at an entire curriculum area, other teachers in my department had lessons at the same time, but nobody else was observed. Is this odd?
