2024.04.29 18:06 EuropesNinja Has the live show improved over time? I’m worried I’ll be disappointed.

I was on YouTube and watched the lollapalooza live performance on YouTube and… well it looked really poor. To his benefit the audio of the video itself was very poor but it did mostly sound like him just playing the song with slight variations in certain parts.
I’m excited for when Sven comes to Europe but I’m also worried that the show… just won’t be up to a good standard.
I love Svens music so much that I would rather not see him live if it’s as bad poor as that performance was. He was running around the stage a lot and singing out of breath. I’m sure it’s a great crowd presence but I’d rather not bring along some friends who aren’t familiar with his music if it turns out to be lacklustre live.
What do you all think? The set I watched was from a year ago, which is what worries me.
What are his live performances looking like now?

2024.04.29 18:06 FastDecode1 dav1d battery drain test on a budget phone, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

Follow-up of this, done with an actual 720p60 AV1 file encoded by YouTube.
It's a 56-minute documentary by Gamers Nexus. The video bit rate is 1271 kb/s. The footage is not very fast paced, but it's quite detailed, consisting mostly of handheld but fairly steady camera shots. So while it's not a torture test in terms of the decoding difficulty, it is a 60 fps video and should be representative of the sort of video a YouTube viewer can be expected to watch at the mid-to-higher end of the 720p quality ladder.
If you want to test it yourself, get a recent version of yt-dlp and run the following command to download the video along with a 64k Opus audio track:
yt-dlp -f 398+250 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H4eg2jOvVw

Results

Starting at 100% battery, the file was played with VLC 3.5.4 on repeat for 3 hours and 6 minutes. Screen brightness was set to 40%, Adaptive brightness was turned off, as was Eye comfort shield. Audio volume was set to 53%.
After 3 hours and 6 minutes, the phone's reported battery level had dropped to 71%. According to the Battery activity screen, VLC used 25.5% of the battery during that time.
Seeing as this phone has a 5000 mAh battery, assuming it still has its full capacity (it should be close, as I use this one extremely lightly, maybe less than an hour per week total), we can calculate that a single minute of playback used 7.799 mAh of battery capacity. From this, we can calculate that on this phone, you could watch 9 hours and 36 minutes of YouTube before the battery got down to 10% capacity.
Based on this result, I stand by my belief that as long as YouTube keeps the resolution they serve by default for phone users in check, the average user won't be affected by AV1 software decoding with dav1d very much.
You either need to watch a lot of YouTube before this increased battery drain becomes an issue, and I'd say the anyone who watches YouTube that much or demands a higher resolution than 720p on their phone (resulting in higher battery drain) is more of a power user. And as we know from first-hand experience, power users and enthusiasts complain a lot more than the average user. So when you see complaints about increased battery drain, keep in mind who it's coming from, and that the sky is not, in fact, falling.

Next?

If I can be asked, I'd like to test the following things:

2024.04.29 18:04 MattSpill Warzone 2 RTX 3080 recommended settings for 1080P

I just acquired a 12th Gen i7 12700KF, 3080 10G pc.
I've been playing on console(Xbox X) for the last couple years and made the switch to PC.
What are the best graphics setting to use for the 3080?
I've watched some YouTube videos and tried some of the suggested settings and didn't have much luck. Looked worse then the 2070 equivalate that was in my Xbox X. Lol.
I already got the FOV set at 120. So that's set.
Running a 27" 1080p, 0.1ms, 240hz monitor with G-Sync
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

2024.04.29 17:57 BusinessWes Unnecessarily Niche Tips on Cutting Audiodramas to Shorts for Marketing (From the D&D Community, but Widely Applicable)

So, if you're probably .01% of people on this subreddit who like D&D, and when it's adapted like an audio drama, AND you like making that content, then this is a great tip. Since I market my show as both TTRPG and Audio drama, I figure the tips here are useful for audio drama creators as well.
YouTube shorts and TikTok are a great way to grow a channel because of how quickly you can get the word out. That said, it's an entirely new skill to master. In short, you have to tell a quick story, engage people quickly and early, and convince them to stay to the end, all in about 60 seconds.
Here's the problem: D&D is not fast paced. It's a TTRPG, which means 5 people come together to play a game for 4-5 hours, that becomes a full-length episode for your typical Actual Play. An audio drama is similarly long-form audio content. Now you need to cut that even further into shorts to publish to tell people about your show. So you sift through 1-4 hours of content to see what the $&#! can be delivered in sixty seconds to tell people why they should watch 4 hours.
This is my solution:
  1. Start with something everyone knows. (In your niche) I've found that my favorite content is not the most widely marketable content. I need immediate buy-in from the viewer to get them to stick around in a world where the next swipe might be more entertaining. So in my case my best performing work in shorts starts with "Roll a _____". Everyone who plays D&D knows rolls.
  2. Focus on the punchiest moments. In my case where I make narrative style content, it's the Bangs, the punches, the explosions. Where I can flex my sound design and narrative style. In the more traditional Actual Play, it's the joke that was said in the moment, it's the emotional character death.
  3. Still have a "Beginning" "Middle" and "End" - the human brain craves change. The old tip of "And then" not working applies here to. First, But, However, Finally.
My try hard tips:

  1. I start making the short before the session is even started. I know that any roll is a great candidate to be a short, so I also know when a roll happens, if I can resolve the most important bit in 60 seconds or less, that will make an incredible piece of content that can transfer. I imagine in audio drama creation, the same strategy can be used even more intentionally. My content is improvised, yours might be planned ahead.
  2. When I edit I have 5 tracks for players, 2-3 tracks for music, and 4-5 tracks for ambience and SFX. I don't edit the short from my final export, instead I re-import the individual tracks even when cutting the shorts, this way I can move around the music and SFX so that the (VERY MANY) cuts that I make to take a 4 minute scene and condense it into 1 minute go un-noticed. See what I did with the sample below here: image.png (840×584) (discordapp.com)

Here's an example:
The final cut - Power. Word. Kill. #dnd5e #audiodrama #dungeonsanddragons #dndactualplay #narrativeplay (youtube.com)
Original Clip - https://youtu.be/IZ2RgKpIhl4

What I did with this clip:

I just posted it, and I have a feeling it'll do well - but then again, shorts are sometimes unpredictable. This however is my thought process and approach to adapting long form content into short.

2024.04.29 17:54 Longjumping-Ad-4 For those on low end devices

For those on low-end devices
I know this is gonna be hard to acknowledge, but you got to.
If you guys are in low-end devices, you want optimization, but sorry, Activision doesn’t care. Don’t even think about comparing this game to PUBGM or CODM because those games don’t work the same way as Warzone Mobile does. Let me explain.
CODM runs Unity, a lower-end gaming engine which is far better optimized. CODM was built from scratch, hence the fact it is designed for mobile exclusively. So even an iPhone 5 could play at max settings with no lag. Warzone is built on a proprietary IW engine, which a handful of COD titles run on. These COD titles were made to be ran on PS4, PS5, Xbox series and PC, machines that are way more powerful and effective cooling than your smartphones.
Another example is Fortnite on mobile, which runs on the Unreal Engine 4. The game was ported from PC, and not built from ground up to be optimized only for mobile. Thats why it allows you to be able to play cross platform with PC/console, and it isn’t exactly optimized or easy to do. When Fornite became mobile, people who played on phone complained heavily of heating issues and lag as well. It's wayyy too reminiscent of the way people are complaining about Warzone mobile now.
PUBGM is easier to compare since it runs the same engine as Fortnite, but again, Fortnite was ported while PUBGM was built from scratch solely for mobile optimization.
Apex mobile is another mobile title based off its PC counterpart, but was built from ground up being optimized for mobile. So there is a big difference from games being ported VS being built for mobile optimization.
I wish you guys weren’t tech dummies. I hope this lets you know, it’s just not easy to optimize for lower-end devices. While not impossible, it’s hard and it seems Activision doesn’t put any resources into such.

2024.04.29 17:49 YourStonerGF 33F, US, Friends for the friendless??

I'm rather nerdy. I spend most of my days at home hanging out with the cats. I've loved art ever since I was very young. I have big ambitions to have my own graphic design gig some day.
I love video games. I got a lot to play on. PS5, Xbox One, Switch, Meta Quest 2, and my iPad. So, like, pretty much everything but PC 😅 I also collect PS1 & 2 games to play on my PlayStation 2. In recent years I've been very casual with my gaming, playing a lot of platformers and survival/crafting games. I'll play a bit of everthing, though, except, like, sports games.
I love tabletop games. Star Wars Legion, Warhammer 40K/AoS, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon TCG, Digimon TCG, and Lorcana. I love to paint miniatures as well, but it's a bit of a struggle to actually get people to play with me. Never really gotten the chance to play an TTRPG, but would love to. I suffer from a bit of learning curve.
I love music. Dance Gavin Dance, Papa Roach, Twenty-One Pilots, A Day To Remember, stuff like that. Bit of an elder emo. I wish I could play an instrument, but I fear I may be tone deaf 🙃
I love Marvel. Spider-Man's probably my favorite.
I love Harry Potter. Pretty sure my house is Hufflepuff.
Huge fan of The Office. I've seen the whole series countless times.
I love horror movies and got into true crime on YouTube few years ago. My favorite horror movie is probably The Blair Witch Project, second to the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I love anime and manga. Demon Slayer is by far my favorite. I also really love Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Digimon, Dragon Ball, and Sword Art Online.
I love baking, coffee, and grilling. I don't have too much confidence in my cooking skills 😅 I'm rather adept at baking though, and I love smoked meats 🤤
🟢4 20 friendly because some seem confused🟢

2024.04.29 17:46 OkRaisin7529 Limitations as a Game Design Tool

A note about limitations in games. I've compiled the main points that, in my opinion, can make a game more interesting or the opposite.
My name is Konstantin Burov. I am the head of the studio, game designer, and art director at Hungry Couch Games. We made the game Black Skylands: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1143810/Black_Skylands/
I originally wrote this note for internal studio use. I decided to share it here in an experimental format.
Written as a note, not an article, so it may be a bit tough to read.
It’s also worth mentioning that this note isn’t applicable to games with a heavy emphasis on simulation. And there are always exceptions to the rules.
These are solely my observations and conclusions on this topic based on my experience and are not indisputable truths.
Beginning of the Note Limitations in games are an important element of game design. Just one limitation can either make a game more interesting or turn it into an irritating experience. By limitations, I mean things like ammunition, fuel, the number of consumables, abilities, lives, mana, inventory slots, time, oxygen, equipment weight, and the like.
Why do games need such limitations? Limitations are one of the tools for a game designer to create an engaging gameplay experience. Their purpose is to create fun (term "fun" refers to positive emotions). Good limitations play a gameplay role and fulfill a game design task. Bad ones exist for the sake of realism, do not fulfill any game design task, feel out of place, or overly restrict the player.

What Can Make a Limitation an Irritating Experience

Fatalness
There are limitations that define the main gameplay to a greater extent. For example, a roguelike where if oxygen runs out, the player dies.
However, if this limitation does not define the main gameplay, one should be cautious with fatal limitations. At a minimum, it should offer a "second chance" or restrict some gameplay mechanics, ceasing to be fatal.
For instance, a player who has exceeded the maximum equipment weight stands like a statue. If you don’t question why there is such a limitation in the game, then limiting his speed in this case will be a less irritating solution for the player.
Realism It's good when a limitation has a reference in real life. This gives the player a full/partial understanding of how it works. However, it's always important to remember why a limitation is being introduced. The reason should not be solely for realism. Imagine if in God of War you had to sleep or eat to fill corresponding meters. Sounds logical, but would it make the gameplay more interesting? Most likely, it would feel out of place and not add anything to the gameplay except irritation. Or in Doom, if the weapons would jam periodically. Realistic, but it would break the game's dynamics and incredibly irritate the player. Just imagine the BFG jamming right before shooting at a crowd.
At the same time, when gameplay decisions/limitations are "played out" in terms of the logic of the real world, the game becomes more plausible and can immerse the player more deeply into its world. For example, in Hades or Returnal—games in which the player starts over after each death, it's explained why this happens.
Fast travel in Dying Light 2 happens through subway stations. When crossing the boundary of the game world instead of a sign "You are leaving the game zone" or an invisible collider in Journey, for example, the camera starts turning back, and the wind begins to blow until the player falls. This doesn't break immersion because it references real-life.
Time Limitation One of the most popular limitations. At the same time, one of the most treacherous for game designers. A time limitation significantly affects gameplay. It forces the player to hurry. The player sacrifices curiosity and attentiveness for fear of not finishing in time. This is often a stressful state. This doesn't mean that time limitations should not be in games. In some games, this is a core mechanic, in others, it's used as a test of player skills or simply intersperses gameplay occasionally. At the same time, it is important to consider the player's state with limited time in game design.
For example, if in an open-world game the player constantly has a timer ticking down until it runs out and they must find a way to extend it, it should be considered that the player is more likely to ignore beautiful landscapes, interesting locations, lore notes, etc.
Before introducing a time limitation, it's important to clearly answer why it's required for the chosen gameplay style and why the player should hurry through the game/level.
Penalty for Inattentiveness
A bad limitation punishes the player for inattentiveness. Imagine a game with a limitation in the form of car fuel that needs to be refilled. For example, the player forgot to refuel the car before a trip through the desert, where there is no possibility to refuel, resulting in being stuck in the middle of the desert. Punishment for inattentiveness is almost always a negative experience. It's important to make sure the player knows about the limitation and its state. For example, before the player crossed the desert, he should know how much fuel he has and whether there are refueling stations along the way.

What is Common to Limitations That Create Fun

Understandable
It's important that the player understands how the limitation works, what affects it, can predict the mechanics of the limitation in the near future, and is warned about the consequences. Knows what triggers the limitation and, if possible, how it can be mitigated/weakened.
For example, a sudden temporary limitation forces the player to do something they initially didn't want to, disrupts their plans, and irritates.
Limitation Creates Choice A good limitation creates fun for the player. For example, because of the choice that arises due to this limitation. For instance, the player has a limited amount of mana and decides which of the magics to spend it on.
Another example. Underwater in Subnautica, oxygen runs out, but it can be replenished in many ways. From gas sources to tubes with pumps on the surface.
Limitation as Progression The alleviation/weakening of a limitation can feel like progression. For example, the player can only stay underwater for a certain amount of time. Upgrading lungs or finding a scuba gear, the player can stay underwater much longer.
Metroidvanias use limitations to create a sense of player growth. The player gradually unlocks new mechanics, gaining access to new territories and opportunities.
Bonus Instead of Limitation If there are already enough limitations in the game, you can try to convert a limitation into a bonus. For example, instead of a limited number of bullets, after which the player cannot shoot, give the player a certain reserve of special bullets, which have a damage bonus, but when they run out, he switches to infinite bullets with normal damage. Thus, the player can continue shooting when the special bullets run out, albeit with much less efficiency.
Temporary Limitations (not to be confused with time limitations) Temporary limitations can add variety to gameplay. They can operate within a certain level, territory, or time of day. For example, a mechanic available on other levels cannot be used on a level. A player accustomed to it starts thinking about how to be effective without it, which generates new gameplay. Also, temporary limitations can guide the player.
For example, there is a winter zone where the player will freeze without warm clothing. Having obtained warm clothing, the player knows where to go next.
Applying in Practice Applying all of the above, we can improve the following limitation: The player forgot to refuel the car before a trip through the desert, resulting in being stuck in the middle of the desert. The player was punished for inattentiveness. The mistake is fatal — escaping the desert without fuel is impossible. The limitation itself seems to exist only because in reality, cars consume fuel. It didn't bring any fun to the player.
Into this: The player knows he needs to refuel the car before a trip through the desert, and he have the opportunity to do so. At the same time, he have a choice. He can do it now at a gas station before the desert or at the next station in the desert at half the price. However, if he don't refuel now, there might not be enough fuel to reach the next station if a sandstorm appears, which the player also knows about. If the player gets caught in the storm, he will have to call a tow truck to the next station, which will cost more than if they had refueled immediately. Thus, he can risk saving on fuel.
The limitation doesn't appear unexpectedly. It created a choice, the consequences of which are not fatal. The limitation has a reference from the real world, while it has a gameplay meaning.
End of the Note I invite you to share your thoughts and observations in the comments.
Thank you for your attention!

2024.04.29 17:46 chromix [Dutch > English] That one time I was played by Armin Van Buren...

Around 20 years ago, I was making trance music on my crappy bargain basement laptop and had the crazy idea to press my 2 best songs to a white label and pressed 1000 copies. This was astronomically expensive for a 20 something living their own in a rough part of Columbus, so I knew I had to do something drastic to get my records sold. I didn't know the first thing about how selling records or running a record label worked, but I knew getting it played by a famous DJ would help.
A friend of mine worked as a sound engineer at a club where Armin Van Buren was playing, and he let me backstage with an armful of records while the club was still setting up. While I waited in the green room I drew all over the record sleeve in the hopes that it would make the record more memorable. I eventually did hand Armin Van Buren my record. He then went on to play it on A State of Trance on episode 124.
I need help translating what he's saying after my track plays, as I've always been curious. I can make out "Columbus, Ohio", my stage name (username checks out) and the name of the track ("Valentine") but that's about it. This YouTube video has the timestamp:

2024.04.29 17:46 emfna Does deleting an app (iPhone) clear the app data/cache?

Long story short I found this game on the App Store a bit ago that looks like devs have abandoned. After playing a bit the game keeps crashing upon launch. I’ve restarted my phone but to no avail. I googled it and others were saying to delete the cache/app data. However I’m worried to do that in case I lose my progress? Would deleting an iPhone app clear the app data/cache from my phone?

2024.04.29 17:44 Gay4BillKaulitz Default Voice Mail Greeting

Is there a way to change the default greeting voice? I've noticed that iPhone users on other carriers (I'm on Verizon, and the other person I called is on T-Mobile) had a British male voice for the default greeting, and I'm low-key jealous. I have a robotic-sounding female voice with a hint of British.
For reference:
iPhone 14 Pro Max iOS 17.4.1 Siri's voice is set to British Voice 1
To be clear, I like the default greeting as-is, but I want it spoken by a different voice.
Thanks!
Edit: Thanks to squirrelist, I changed the Siri voice to a new one, let it download all the way, set it as active, went to my phone, played the default greeting in the new voice, went back to Siri voices, sent it back to my original British Voice 1, and went back to my voice mail to listen to the default greeting. The voice quality was way better and more natural-sounding.

2024.04.29 17:28 Randomman16 Last Played Song Randomly Playing By Itself At Double Speed

My iPhone has been doing this weird thing the past few months (I got the 15 Pro Max in December) where it will, for no reason and with zero provocation, play the last song I listened to (today it was "One Last Time" from Hamilton) at double speed, but the "Play" button on the screen is still a "Play" button, as in the phone seems to think music is paused. Pressing the Play button does nothing, either on my iPhone or Apple Watch, pressing previous or next song also seems to have no effect and I just have to wait for the song to end, at which point it stops without moving to the next one. I should note that I signed up for a trial of Apple Music last year but never renewed it, and I currently have cellular data turned off for the Apple Music app. Could any of those factors be causing this? I really don't want my phone to suddenly blast "Live And Learn" by Crush 40 at double speed while I'm at work.

2024.04.29 17:18 Tombazzzz Single tunes

Hi all, I was wondering... Why is it that very often tunes aren't played as single tunes? When I get a new music sheet from my instructor I like to look it up on YouTube and listen to it played. I've noticed that very often I can't find videos of single tunes but rather 2 tunes played in a row. Why is that?
Thanks

2024.04.29 17:10 Successful_River_745 Should I mod my PSP?

Hi guys
I'm getting a PSP. I mostly want to play PSP games (nothing older). Should I still MOD it? I see on YouTube that sometimes the lagging gets solved and there's colour correction as well. But as I'm not very skilled I'm afraid of doing something wrong.
Any advice?

2024.04.29 16:47 Successful-Bread-347 A TMS Primer for Searchers moving on from EKT

Moving from the successful Everyone Knows That (EKT) lostwave song search, you might want to dive into the deep world of The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet (TMS).
Please help us now find TMS to make this the year the biggest lostwaves are found!

Main Differences Between EKT and TMS Searches

1. Musical Style and Era:
2. Historical Context and Volume of Data:
3. Origin and Recording Medium:
4. Misattributions and False Claims:

History of the TMS Search

The quest to identify TMS began when Lydia's brother uploaded it online in 2007 after recording it from the radio in the 1980s. Since then, a global community has formed to find the song's origins.

Key Milestones:

How to Get Involved in the TMS Search

If you're ready to join the search, here are some steps to get started:
As you dive into the TMS search, remember that you're joining a quest to uncover a piece of lost musical history. Enjoy the journey of solving this new mystery!

Where to Start

An easy way to jump into the search is to review bands that appear in the NDR playlists from around when we know TMS aired on the radio. Here are some of the rarer bands that we know played on NDR Radio in November, 1984 for which there isn't a lot of data. You can search up these names on Youtube, on discogs, or deeply on the web and let us know if you find anything interesting.

2024.04.29 16:45 CockroachLatte Another review of stupid PS Portal! Don’t buy it.

Fan boys can downvote this. This sub is Portal Fan boys whose eyes can’t tell difference between OLED and LCD. and never played remote play and doesn’t know how good it is compared to Stupid Portal.
They already have portal in the palm of their hand (mobile phones) but still spend $220 for a controller attached to LCD screen which lacks smoothness, has washed out colors and frequently disconnects.
I’ve never played remote that much so I tried the portal first and it was laggy. then I tried on my iPhone and iPad and man it was so smooth with HDR and bright blacks and colors. Instantly returned stupid portal.
Pros and cons of portal.
Cons- - LCD screen - Washed out colors - Freqeuent disconnect - Laggy cuz of limited refresh rate - You need to have Tesla Starlink WiFi with 100000000 GBPS for good experience - can’t connect to public wifi - Don’t ever think about switching the user, it’s a real pain. - Half cooked device and crash grab scheme from Sony
Pros- - Dualsense vibration
Just get backbone or use your existing PS5 controller. remote play on iPhones and android is already smooth and better quality and phones have better modems you won’t feel frequent disconnecs as well.
Playing on portal makes me thinking of getting Backbone ONE for my phone 😅😅

2024.04.29 16:31 KiroKite Which MBP should I buy for 2000$

Electronic devices I own: - iPhone 15 pro max - iPad Pro 12.9” M1 - Apple Pencil - AirPods Pro - Windows PC https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CJB9Wt - Lenovo 34” 1440p 144hz monitor
Apps and games I use: - Notability: Note taking on my iPad - Lightroom: Editing photos I take on my Sony A7R IV ( probably the most cpu intensive task here ) - Minecraft: I play with shaders and mods, and barely get 120 fps on my pc - Valorant: I think a MacBook can run it, I get like 600 fps at max settings anyway
I’m aiming to go to a computer science or computer engineering college next year and there aren’t any good ones nearby. I’ll travel to my home country and I don’t know if it’s possible to take my pc with me. I do know that I cannot travel with my 34” monitor so I do need to replace that as well because of the 27” limit.
Right now, I think I’ll sell my pc and monitor, then buy a MacBook and 4k monitor along side it. I’ve already seen a couple MacBooks locally, notably the m3 pro baseline MacBook Pro for 1996.55$. There are a lot of used m1 and m2 MacBooks to but idk what to look for, so I’m asking here. Do I even need the m3 pro? Should I just save my money and get a used M1 pro? Could my iPad be enough for the tasks I’ll need for college?

If you haven't caught up with the last parts, here are Part 7: 1/2 and Part 7: 2/2!
Anyways, enjoy this first part of the finale!

Deep Sleep Reimagined (Part 8: 1/2)

CHAPTER 8: Moonlight
Flashback:
10 years ago, a little girl was out of bounds, wandering in the massive caverns outside of Playcare. She had no one to talk to, and none of the staff had any idea where she was. She only had a flashlight to brighten the path, but the surrounding darkness gave her little steps. No one was there, but someone was watching from afar. Someone concerned about her being lost.
Girl: (jittery) Is…Is anybody there?
Behind her back, a small rock falls, startling the girl as she points around her flashlight, but sees no one. She backed up a bit, only to bump behind a furry surface. When she shines at this “object”, she is greeted by a wide-grinning CatNap. She immediately tries to run away, but CatNap stops her calmly.
Girl: Who are you?!
CatNap: (normal voice, concerned) Hi! I’m CatNap! What are you doing out here?
Girl: P-Please…don’t hurt me–!
CatNap: Oh, no, I won’t hurt you. Have we met yet?
Girl: Um…no.
CatNap: You must be new in Playcare. You look really tired. It’s night time you know?
Girl: Oh, I’m…I can’t sleep well. (upset tone) I just miss my parents. They didn’t even say goodbye…
CatNap: Well, it’s hard if you miss something valuable. But that’s okay, (puts hand at the girl’s head) you have me!
The girl's fear slowly turned into a timid smile.
CatNap: If it’s hard to go to sleep, don’t worry. I’ll make sure to put you in a…DEEP sleep.
CatNap chuckles, while the girl felt more comfort
CatNap: Alright, nice meeting you, but you shouldn’t be here right now. (points at a small hole) Take that hole and you’ll end up straight up in your bed. Go! Before it’s too late.
Girl: (curious) Too late for what?
CatNap: Before the staff knows about this.
The feline walks towards the hole. He then looks behind her to call her in.
CatNap: (reassuring) Come on, little kid. I’ll lead the way…
Girl: O-Okay…
The little girl followed the cat mascot to safely go back to Home Sweet Home.
The flashback ends:
—————————————————————————————————
The artificial time of Playcare begins to turn night, and the place feels more lonelier than ever. You were in a state of deep sorrow, as all of your friends are presumably dead. You only think of one thing: revenge. And CatNap is the one you think is held responsible.
You: (vengeful) Ollie, where can I find CatNap?
Ollie: Wait, are you serious?! You can’t face CatNap by yourself. You need Poppy–
You: I don’t need Poppy, or anyone to help me! I’m going to fight him alone.
Ollie: (begging) Please, don’t do this! I don’t wanna lose any more friends to this place.
You: We already lost them…Hoppy was right. It’s all CatNap’s fault! He’s the reason all of these toys suffered in the first place. (crying) I wish I could’ve saved everyone…
Ollie: Well, he wasn’t always like that. (remembers something) Hey…Did you see the shrine?
You: (wiping tears off) What shrine?
Ollie: The shrine that’s in the caves. CatNap made it for The Prototype, with assistance from CraftyCorn. See, before CatNap turned into…CatNap, I guess there was some pretty serious accident. He almost died but…they say that The Prototype saved his life, giving up his own freedom in the process.
Hearing this, you feel conflicted. You know that this “Prototype” entity is evil, but you never thought that HE would save someone like CatNap.
Ollie: In CatNap’s eyes, the Prototype is his superhero, and has saved this place. So CatNap treats him like a god, killing everyone that opposes him. Us included, if we’re not careful. That shrine…Did it scare you?
You: Maybe…
Ollie: If you think that’s terrifying, just wait until you see the real thing.
You don’t know what to say.
Ollie: (changes topic) Anyways, we’re really close to the end. I sent you a new key. You’re going to the Counselor’s Office instead. It’s not ideal…but it should have enough juice. If you can get that generator going and plug it in…I think we’ll be done!
You: (sighs deeply) Okay, I’ll try–
Ollie: (warned) Oh, and keep your eyes open for CatNap. Every shadow and every flickering light is a hiding spot. He always stalks his prey first. He’ll take away anything you have to defend yourself. And when you’re at your most vulnerable…he’ll kill you. CatNap lives for the hunt.
Those words sent shivers down your spine. You don’t know why, but you felt like every corner and corridor you’ve entered felt like he’s watching you. The moment you progressed your way through every location to power up each generator felt like CatNap planned all along to hunt you. But something isn’t right.
You: But…he could’ve killed me right when I escaped the trash compactor. (angry) Why did he have to kill everyone else?!
Ollie: (thinks) Hmmm…Maybe The Prototype wants you to experience the horror?...Of you leaving the factory?
You thought in your mind that Ollie could be right. And CatNap could just be enjoying all of your indirect torments, and you feel more angered by it.
You: Alright, Ollie. I hope you call again this time.
Ollie: Sure thing! Good luck, talk soon.
As the call came to an end, you went down the room below the statues and got the key.
Meanwhile, back at the caverns outside of Playcare, Kissy Missy and Poppy were still lost in the caves. Kissy was beginning to feel hopeless, and Poppy noticed this.
Kissy Missy: Argh! Where’s the exit?!
Poppy Playtime: Let’s check the other direction.
Kissy Missy: (panicking) We went that way already! Let’s take the left. DogDay might need our help!
Poppy Playtime: Kissy, calm down! (softer tone) Calm down…
Kissy’s stress began to take over her as she sat down on the ground, but Poppy rubbed the fear on her head, which cooled her off.
Kissy Missy: I-I’m sorry. I’m just–
Poppy Playtime: Stressed?
Kissy Missy: Not only that. It’s also about Bobby. (sadder tone) Why would she betray us like that?
Poppy Playtime: There must be some kind of misunderstanding. (comforting) Just…pull yourself together, okay?
Kissy felt consoled by her, so she began to stand up, but as she did, she heard the voices of Picky Piggy coming from the walls.
Poppy Playtime: Do you hear that?
Kissy Missy: (gasps in realization) It’s her.
The two soon went to a little opening where there was a large cave. And there they see the enemy Critters. Picky Piggy was gathering the burnt bodies of Bubba Bubbaphant and KickinChicken. A bunch of the Ruined Critters were carrying what seems to be teared-off legs and the flesh of white skin. CatNap was pleased to see these huge accomplishments, And Picky, despite nearly dying to fill her stomach full, feels some regret for seeing the corpses and parts of the Critters.
Picky Piggy: (drooling) Finally, after all these years I can finally get a proper meal…I’m sorry, old friends, but you served your purpose. Mmmm…
Picky began digging in Bubba and Kickin’s flesh, abandoning her self-control. But CatNap shoves her away, making Picky fall off the hard ground. She was in confusion and fear as she felt his action.
CatNap: THOSE ARE RESERVED FOR THE LITTLE ONES.
Picky Piggy: But…B-But, sire, I’m still hungry. I need–
CatNap: DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME? THOSE ARE FOR THE LITTLE ONES
Picky Piggy: I…(stand up, angry) What about me?! I deserve to get a taste! I contributed to tracking the Critters down!
CatNap: YOU RELY TOO MUCH ON ME. I SAY YOU FEND FOR YOURSELF.
Picky then faced him head on, giving him a piece of her mind.
Picky Piggy: Listen here, CatNap! You promised me before that if I follow The Prototype, I would be fed…WHEN was that promise kept?!
CatNap: (frustrated) HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT ME AND OUR GOD! THE PROTOTYPE IS ANGERED!
Picky Piggy: ARE YOU THE PROTOTYPE?!
CatNap: YOU HERETIC!
CatNap then scratches her head, causing it to bleed rapidly. In retaliation, Picky charges up to CatNap, which he quickly dodges by jumping up the ceiling. When Picky looks from above her, CatNap drops down and squashes her, while Picky picks her up with her back. With all her might, she lifts CatNap and throws him off, leading to CatNap hitting the wall. When he gets back up, he notices Picky’s miniature toy Critter of herself was carrying a blade to stab him. He remembered he was special to her, so she grabbed the mini Critter tight and threatened Picky in front of her.
CatNap: NOT ANOTHER STEP…
Picky was shocked, afraid of what he’ll do.
Picky Piggy: D-Don’t hurt it!
CatNap: I WILL! SO CHOOSE: THE LITTLE ONE DIES, OR TURN YOURSELF IN.
Picky Piggy: (pleading) NO! I can’t!
CatNap: THEN THIS ONE PERISHES.
CatNap begins crushing the little toy, which it started to squeal in pain. Suddenly, the sound like that of a metal contraption was heard, and when all of those in the cave turned at every corner, trying to find where that was coming from, they saw The Prototype’s claw at a large hole on the top wall of stone. Everyone was filled with awe and fear, and CatNap dropped the plush down to fall on his knees.
Picky Piggy: Is that–?
CatNap: MY LORD! YOU CAME!
It took a few seconds for The Prototype to speak, and when Kissy and Poppy saw this from their position, they were terrified.
Poppy Playtime: That thing…
The Prototype then spoke with different voices.
The Prototype: I see you have nearly achieved your goal, my child. But I’m not pleased about you destroying these other poor toys.
CatNap stared in confusion, having not understood what he complimented him.
The Prototype: I oblige you to let her live. You have one important thing to do, my servant, and that is to get rid of the intruder. (to Picky) As for you, I suggest you hunt the one you despise the most.
Picky Piggy: Are you saying…?
The Prototype: You know what you want…
As The Prototype’s hand leaves the scene, Picky remembers one toy that she wants to get rid off, so she grows confident about it.
CatNap: (shocked) I-I THOUGHT HE WOULDN’T WANT YOU ANYMORE.
Picky Piggy: (mocks) Guess again, CatNap! We both know that we’re just puppets, but if this is how I’ll do my bidding, then fine by me.
As Picky leaves for the tunnels, CatNap is mad at her, and deep inside he feels like the whole encounter was unfair, but he doesn’t want to question it. His faith in The Prototype remains strong.
When Kissy and Poppy witnessed this, they were deeply worried for you.
Poppy Playtime: (whispering) Kissy, we have to find them quick!
Both of them quickly went away to find you.
Meanwhile, you used the key Ollie gave you to open the door heading for the Counselor’s Office. You remembered what Ollie said about CatNap, but that won’t stop you from what you’ll do.
Through different turns on every hallway you went, you find yourself in dark paths, so you light up some flares with your Orange Hand. Upon making your way to a little corridor, at the end of it has a locked door, but with a hole open to the other side. It may be filled by the Red Smoke, but it was enough to see something inside. There was a battery across the room, but before you decided to grab it, there was also a small Bunzo Bunny Toy struggling to walk straight, but it fell helplessly. All of a sudden, the purple furry feline swoops in and grabs the little toy. You could almost miss this happening in a blink of an eye.
Now you’re a bit more skeptical on heading in further. You saw once again the killer who caused their deaths. But then again, you remembered a particular VHS tape back when you and CraftyCorn were in the playhouse. Something that you were conflicted about…
(Memory) VHS Tape:
Leith Pierre: (looking through papers) Okay…this is…CatNap. Uhhh…experiment #1188…(ask someone) What’s his real name again? (someone tells him) Ah! Okay. (clears throat, talks to CatNap) Heya Theo! How ya doin’ bud? Normally I’d have Dr. Sawyer do this but uhhh…out, let’s say. So you got me until they find his replacement. First off: Congrats! This is officially your 4th year in your new body. And you’ve made some real progress pal. I was told that when you and the other smiling critters, y’know, DogDay, Picky Piggy, yadda yadda yadda, were added into Playcare, that you weren’t really getting along too well with the kids like everybody else was. But look at you now! The kids love ya, and that red smoke. I mean–that’s fantastic, isn’t it?! (CatNap doesn’t reply) Is his uh, voice thingy still broken–
CatNap: (broken voice) THE PROTOTYPE WILL SAVE US.
Leith Pierre: (mad) Theo…Nobody’s gonna save you. This prison is where you belong. We’ll let you here and there to go see the kids in Playcare, but your home is here. And as for “The Prototype”, his home is in the labs. THIS is your life now. Get used to it.
(Memory) The tape ends.
That memory makes you sympathetic for these experiments. It clashes with everything that you thought of then and now, and you could go either way. You could turn back and leave the place, but deep inside you couldn’t avenge your friends. So when you grabbed the battery from the other side of that inaccessible room, you continued on.

A hallway here, another one there
With the Red Smoke almost everywhere
In the caves, there’s some puzzles to fix,
The environment doesn’t even fit with it
Entering an abandoned office,
You find another VHS tape
When you played it near a TV player
It reveals yet another false cape
The child supposedly meant for adoption
Was turned for testing instead
You know these experiments were indeed horrid
It was like they’re better off dead
In your heart these toys cry for help
In order to escape CatNap’s wrath
He caused so much pain from which he had
But now it’s time to take a new path.
—————————————————————————————————
It seems as if the complex machinery you’ve been fixing for the last moments ago felt out of place. But they’re nonetheless worth the time to fix what kind of mess appears out in the caves at the Counselor’s office. While crawling in a tight vent, the Red Smoke started to approach, and you put on your Gas Mask for protection. You drop down to another vent system, and again drop down. Upon opening the grilles, you went down a small corridor still filled of the Smoke. There were a few doors on each side, but some of them don’t have much to offer. On one door, though, there was a battery that you could see inside the room through the door’s window, so you went in.
Little did you know that someone was already behind you, like you never heard a sound of it coming.
When you exited the door, CatNap grabbed you, took your Gas Mask, and threw you to another room by sheer force. As CatNap closes the door, It causes a shelf to collapse behind it. You began to feel unconscious. Your Gas Mask is gone, and you begin to inhale the Smoke involuntarily as you fall into a deep sleep…
—————————————————————————————————
Dream sequence:
Poppy Playtime: (whispering voice) Find the flower. Find the flower.
There you were, standing at a road with the woods on both sides. You see at the distance the bright colorful abandoned factory under the darkened sky.
Poppy Playtime: This isn’t a place you came back from.
As you look around, the place fades as you were being traveled to a cave of red fog. Later, you find yourself at the entrance of the factory. The place you came in first.
Poppy Playtime: Do you have any idea what you’re doing?
No one was to be seen, and you were then flying in the red fog. You were hearing the joyful screams and voices of children, and soon enough, you were back in the hallways of the orphanage.
Poppy Playtime: Do you know what’s happened here?
You see in front of you a silhouette of two kids chasing each other. You looked behind, and there was a child sitting in the bed, and another one at the doorway. Again, you were flying in the red fog. The voices are getting louder and louder. And then, you were in a classroom at school.
Poppy Playtime: Do you know who we once were?
You see the children sitting in class, paying attention to the teacher. It seems like Miss Delight; possibly THE Miss Delight you were forced to kill. Again, you were flying in the fog, and then, you were in the tubes of the playhouse.
Poppy Playtime: Do you see why we have to end this?
You see two children on the same tube as you were in. They seemed happy, but before you could look around further, you went back to the red fog. Later, you were in a room in the Counselor’s Office.
Poppy Playtime: Do you even know what’s real?
At a table, there was a kid sitting in front of an adult. It seems like he was being chewed on, or a bunch of the staff talking to each other, but about what? Again, you were back flying in the red fog, but as you did, it slowly revealed a figure. Someone you recognized. Someone you encountered the first time you entered this place. It was Huggy, and he was smiling directly at you, with his one hand lifted on a waving sign. You don’t know what to do. You think Huggy might come and attack you like last time. But then Poppy spoke.
Poppy Playtime: No…you don’t.
At that moment, the sounds of an alarm were heard. Then, the people’s screams of fear and anguish surrounded you. Huggy’s image disappeared, and you were met with red lights flashing from the ceiling to the bottom. It was dark, and all you could hear was the tormenting cries. Looking behind, you see an empty platform to where Huggy used to be displayed. Moments later, a metallic claw appears, reaching down to grab you, but as you brace for it, it all fades to black.
It was all a dream.
The dream ends:
—————————————————————————————————
You open your eyes. You heard the phone ringing, but you feel exhausted as you find yourself still on the floor. Nonetheless, you gathered all your strength to pull yourself back up and stand. The phone keeps ringing, and as you picked up the phone, you were thinking it might be Ollie coming for the rescue, but to your surprise. It was the cat who attacked you, making a warning statement:
CatNap: LEAVE PLAYCARE, OR I’M COMING FOR YOU.
At this point, there was no turning back. You fixed up your GrabPack, took the battery and exited the room.

2024.04.29 16:04 strewnshank First Game - NY VS TOR

My family attended our first PWHL game yesterday, making the drive from DC area up to UBS Arena to see NY play TOR.
My daughter plays at the 10U level and last night was possibly the greatest day of her life. She loved watching these ladies battle on the ice, and had the best time cheering for the NY squad. I didn't really appreciate the gender bond that she'd have with the women's team vs. the men's teams until yesterday, but it is real. We were so happy that she got to see some of her hockey idols playing in real life. KUDOS to the PWHL for making it so accessible on YouTube, so that she could get exposure to the teams before going to her first game.
While attendance sucked (and I know that's it's own NYC problem), it actually made it super chill and relaxed from the fan POV, and she was able to meet a bunch of players after the game to chat with and get autographs from. I think she loved watching them play, but just sharing a few words afterwards was absolutely fantastic. If you are reading this, thanks to Emma and her two friends for taking my girl under their wing and showing her where to go to meet the players. My girl even met the coach, and I'm pretty sure asked him to save her a roster spot. Everyone she interacted with was super personable.
We are all in on PWHL. I'll still follow the Caps, but other than a game here and there, we are going to push all of our hockey spend towards this league and do whatever we can to spread the word.
