hello fellow users, this is my not first post in Reddit and i actually posted this a few months ago but i used the wrong wordings (i was not mentally stable) so a lot of people attacked me (yes i did re-read what i wrote before and the wording was horrible). I'm okay now and definitely more mature than before, understood human morals and yk those deeper than my asshole shit?? Anyways, i wanna know if i overreacted, so storytime :
So a few months ago, I've realised that my classmates don't seem to like me. Never knew why, they are just a bunch of rude, inconsiderate bitches. Literally the most attention seeking people I've ever seen. They would sometimes do stuff out of their way just to get people's eyes on them. I am one of the outcasts in my class, I don't join the popular girl groups and in fact i hate getting attention bc it stresses me out (have social anxiety). The only good thing about me is that I get top grades in English and i guess that's what I'm only known for. That's also one possible reason why my classmates never liked me. It's also kind of weird since one of THOSE classmates get good grades and everyone liked her for it, kinda unfair to me (if you get what i mean). Nevertheless, I never gave a single shit and they also see me as an invisible person. I don't know but one if my girlfriends told me that i look cold so i guess that somehow scares the shit out of my classmates? but whatever, that's just the background info.
Let's get into some details about the main point of this post. In January, there was a dodgeball competition. At first i was hesitant in joining, 1) i am the definition of self-isolation from any public events bc it's kinda useless to me, 2) the biggest bitches in my class joined. However since my friends wanted me to join with them i reluctantly agreed. After trying it out privately with my friends, I had taken a liking in dodgeball. I am good at dodging, which is quite a surprise to myself. I just enjoyed the fun of it overall. I practised with my classmates and things were pretty good so far. We were having fun. Until. Me and my classmates had a friendly match tgt. We got into groups and it started off pretty well. However, not long later, I was the last one standing, which was something not expected bc i thought i would lose immediately. But finally, after a good 10 minutes, i did manage to win against the other team, which was something never expected. So yk, i thought a small "congratulations" to me was probably the least you can do after any sort of competition or like a "good job" to your teammates? What they did instead, they went onto the more popular teammates and comforted, praised them for their hard work as an outfielder. Side note, the popular classmates did almost nothing but got eliminated on the first minute. I know and knew it was childish and weird of them and myself for expecting a single word from them but i was kinda disappointed that no one even said anything to me before and after the matches.
I was like whatever and just let it go bc they didn't know me so well. UNTIL ONE DAY.
Again, one friendly match and started a new round. It went on good so far until i tripped. Let me tell you when i tried to stand up, i felt a sharp pain in my left knee, like a needle. My classmates just stood there, said absolutely nothing and continued the round when i stood up. IN MY OPINION, helping someone out when they fall down is the least you can fucking do. However that rlly made me wonder if i did something wrong in the process, including the fact that i fell down etc.
I did not have a mental breakdown until when one of friends (one of my friends who joined the competition with me) told me that someone made fun of me of always falling down (yes i did fall down multiple times cuz i have a specific way of dodging that is prone for me to fall down) and even said shit basically saying how I'm not qualified to be in the competition. That was completely over my line and cried in bed that night.
I did absolutely nothing to them and i didn't expect them to do this to me. They also did other shady and shitty shit but i cant type them out in one post.
Right now, i kinda got over it but i can never forgive them for what they did to me and especially to my friends. But i wanna know if im the A.H. here. Thank you ! ! (im extremely sorry for any typos 😭😭)

May ROTMs have landed and a few of us are waiting on some mystery bundles. The records I've seen on the most tables are Little Richard with it's slick jacket and Earl Sweatshirt. Clint Black, Alice Coltrane, and Don Blackman are all spinning around as well.
A reminder for ROTMs: Moving forward, newly released ROTMs are going to be exclusive to memberships and swaps for 3 months. For example, our May ROTMs will not be available in store until August. Yelena watched the doorway through which the young Ashfield scion had just left for a few moments more as she pondered over the meeting they’d just had.
*Precocious indeed,* she thought with a smile.
A smile that only grew as her gaze flitted over to her childhood friend’s
 complicated expression.
It seemed young William’s decision had come as much a surprise to his instructor as it had come to Yelena herself.
“He said no,” Joana said after a few moments.
Yelena nodded slowly as she reclined into her friend’s surprisingly comfortable chair. Given what she knew of Griffith, the Queen had half expected the thing to be harder than mithril when she first sat down - but it was surprisingly plush.
“Not without good reason,” Yelena said as she shifted about.
“Good reason?” Joana scoffed. “You offered him your daughter’s hand.” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “You offered *all* of your daughter’s hands.”
Yelena rolled her eyes at her friend’s tone. “And if he’d accepted I would have considered it a bargain.”
A minor scandal and the loss of a number of future marriage alliances was ultimately nothing compared to the ability to raid Kraken nests. And that was ignoring that a hypothetical means to slay kraken in deep water would undoubtedly have other applications.
Applications that would be incredibly useful in the months to come.
Though, perhaps, if young William’s plans came to fruition that coming storm could be delayed by a few years.
“
Are things truly that desperate?” Joana asked quietly.
“They’re not great,” Yelena admitted, massaging the bridge of her nose. “The Blackstones
 I knew they’d resist the reforms, but to threaten open rebellion?”
She’d not expected that. Not even in her wildest dreams. Lindholm’s only human ducal house had ever been wilful, and their antipathy towards the Orcs who dwelled in the Sunlands was well documented, but surely even they could see why Yelena was doing what she was.
Regardless of what her critics said, her decision to end the slave trade in Lindholm was most assuredly not the result of ‘useless sentiment’.
Far from it.
Oh certainly, Yelena had no love for the institution of slavery, for reasons both moral and financial, but that wasn’t why she’d created the abolitionist movement.
With each passing year, the Homeland’s view of Lindholm grew ever more covetous. More and more the Sun Empress and Desert Khan’s rhetoric centred less on their ongoing deadlock with each other and more on the idea of ‘recovering wayward territories’.
Certainly, that could have been a reference to Old Growth as much as Lindholm, but Yelena doubted it.
Lindholm might have scared the Solites and Lunites into retreating by choosing to engage them over deep water, but ultimately those victories were borne of a lack of conviction on the part of her foes.
Had the two disparate fleets been willing to risk the permanent loss of a small portion of their mithril cores in order to achieve victory and push towards the mainland, they may well have been able to flip the allegiances of a number of Lindholmian houses.
Oh, certainly, the high elves and dark elves of Lindholm might have prided themselves on maintaining the strictures of equality that defined the Old Empire – but with either Solite or Lunite airships hovering over their family castles, she couldn’t help but wonder if some might reconsider their stances on their fellow elves.
No, while an invasion of Lindholm would certainly be costly, it was entirely within the realm of reason.
An invasion of the Old Growth however?
There was a reason the Wood Elves – as they named themselves – had managed to remain independent of both the other two, much larger, nations despite sharing land borders with both of them.
Their strange magics might have been muted and weak beyond the borders of their home, but within their territory they were nigh invincible.
No, if there was to be any ‘reclamation’ of any territory belonging to the old Aelven Imperium, it was likely to come from Lindholm.
To that end, the kingdom could ill afford to keep feeding people and iron into the meatgrinder that was the Sunlands. Could ill afford to keep orcs that might otherwise be valuable mages laboring in the fields under the eyes of watchful taskmasters.
Lindholm needed every mage-knight it could get – regardless of the color of their skin or the shape of their ears.
Yet after year and years of negotiations and attempts to shift public opinion on the matter, the North still remained willfully ignorant of that truth.
“Surely they know that even if they win, any kind of division between us will just see the Homeland sweep over them?” Joana said.
Yelena shrugged. “I have a feeling that Duchess Blackstone’s victories over both the Lunites and Solites has left her confident of repeating the fact should it come to that.”
Foolhardy, in her eyes, but no one had ever accused the Blackstones of being meek. Nor being incapable of backing up their sometimes insane claims. What other House could lay claim to an ancestry that had once beaten back the Old Imperium at the height of its power?
Where other human nobles had been sworn into the Old Imperium on their knees with their battered armies scattered to the winds, the Blackstones managed to resist long and hard enough that the Imperial Legions had been forced to come to the negotiating table.
Ultimately, the Blackstones had still been absorbed into the Empire, but they’d done so on their terms with their heads unbowed.

Though it was somewhat ironic that nearly a thousand years on, it was now those same humans in the position of the old Imperial Legion while it was the free orcs who now utilized the same strategies as the old Blackstone tribes – right down to the Wyvern riders.
“I could imagine that,” Joana muttered.
“Is it strange that I think she might pull it off?” Yelena said – though only because she was sure that no one beyond her friend and silent guards was listening.
“Part of me wants to argue that, but
 do you think it’s a human thing?”
Yelena thought about the Blackstones and the young man who’d just turned down a chance to be king one day.
“Perhaps,” she admitted.
Personally she thought it was because humans didn’t live as long – and there was more of them. When your life could be measured in but a single century, perhaps you were a bit more inclined towards taking risks that might make an elf balk?

Risks like trying to take your first year team up against a third year team in the name of trying to avoid a war.
Or at least delay it.
“I still can’t believe he said no to your offer,” Joana said, something
 complicated in her friend’s expression.
Yelena grinned at the sight, though she wrestled down the urge to ask a number of probing questions of her normally straight laced friend, who seemed to have a childish crush on a young man nearly ten years her junior – and her student beside.
Normally she’d be all over a scandal that delicious.
Alas, right now was work time. “I can. He gave me his reasons and they were solid.”
Well, solid enough. If you squinted a bit. And tried to think ‘human’.
Rather than all-but guarantee a war by having the Crown break off his betrothal, he intended to do it himself.
Loudly and publicly.
And if he won – and that was a big *if* – he’d all but destroy any kind of excuse the Blackstones might have to declare war in response. Indeed, by being ‘shamed’ in such a public manner they’d need to spend a few years at least regathering lost support.
After all, who would want to follow a house into a civil war just after their heir was publicly humiliated by a team of cadets two years her junior?
Academy fights weren’t just schoolyard squabbles. They were civil conflicts writ small. A microcosm of the constant jostling and jockeying of Lindholm’s houses.
In other words, they held weight.
If Willaim could beat his fiancĂ©e, Yelena knew she’d owe him more than she could ever truly repay. A few more years of preparation would turn an almost guaranteed defeat into something *much* more even.
Especially if she could scoop up who knows how many mithril cores that were otherwise just littering the ocean. Ninety percent of them would be of limited use immediately, but a few years would give her time to construct at least a few more airship hulls to house the devices.
All that was required was for William to win.
“Solid,” Joana scoffed. “His plan is to go up against a group of third years with a team of firsties.”
Yelena tried to keep the intensity she was feeling out of her tone as she leaned forward. “You don’t think he can do it?”
Joana opened her mouth before hesitating. “I
 normally I’d say no. Talented as they are, the gap in experience is just too wide.”
“But
”
The dark elf rolled her silver eyes behind her glasses. “But, with William’s newest invention
” The woman paused. “Son of a bitch.”
For just a moment Yelena was treated to the rare sight of her friend laughing. “I can’t believe I thought he ‘just wanted to use it in a schoolyard fight’,” the Instructor said.
“Well, he sort of is, in a way.” Yelena shrugged. “It just so happens to be a very important schoolyard fight.”
Joana laughed. “I suppose it is.”
“Still, do you think he can win?”
Joana straightened up. “I genuinely don’t know. With his new invention he might be able to catch her off guard. If he can skew the numbers in his favor at the start, they might have a chance.”
Yelena frowned. Not exactly the ringing endorsement she wanted to hear, but that was part of why she valued Joana’s friendship.
Always had really, even when the girl had first come to court at the age of ten as a potential playmate for Yelena’s daughters and told her that her dress made her look like some kind of tropical bird.
Something Yelena realized upon closer inspection was true.
Ever since, the Queen had made a point of checking in with the girl from time to time, if only for the occasional shot of unvarnished truth.
It was a strange ‘friendship’ from the outside looking in, but one that got less so as time went by and the age gap became less stark.
“Well, let’s hope the human capacity for the nigh impossible isn’t relegated entirely to the Blackstones,” Yelena muttered.
Because if it wasn’t, the boy would either have to marry one of Yelena’s daughters or die.
She *could* *not* afford the knowledge in his head to reach the Blackstones. To that end, he’d either accept her offer – rolling the dice on the onset of war and all that might come with it – or he’d suffer an accident.
As much as it pained the royal sovereign’s heart to see such a bright and enterprising soul be snuffed out before its time.
Being forced to make such decisions was simply the price of wearing the crown.
“Still,” Joana said, and Yelena was grateful for the distraction as she looked up. “Will you actually leave him alone if he pulls this off?”
Yelena scoffed.
“Of course not. If anything I’ll up my offer.” She shrugged. “I’ll give him you, myself and half my court if it means getting my hands on what’s in his head.”
It was actually a little amusing how Joana flushed at her words, even as she shook her head.
“Yes, that sounds a lot more like you.”
Yelena nodded. Damn right it did.
Though as she did, a thought occurred to her. “Hey Joana?”
“Yes?”
“In your reports to me, didn’t you mention the Ashfield boy having some kind of nickname.”

Joana leaned back, her head craned upwards, as if seeking strength from above.
“Kraken Slayer.”
Yelena laughed. She couldn’t help it.
“Of course it is.”


“You killed Al’Hundra.”
William was still reeling a little from the conversation he’d just had, so he was actually a little caught off guard by a finger being shoved into his face the moment he stepped back into his teams quarters.
*Ah,* he thought. *I promised answers.*
Though it seemed that in his absence his team had managed to figure out some of those answers without him.
Glancing past Olzenya’s outstretched arm, he saw Marline shaking her head – as if to vehemently deny she’d told them anything.
She needn’t have bothered, her geass precluded it as an option. Hell, even once everyone found out it would preclude it as an option.
Which was for the best for the moment because now he wasn’t so much trying to hide what he’d done as *how* he’d done it. Admittedly, Marline didn’t know anything beyond the broadest details, but she knew enough to know that it was some kind of enchantment combined with alchemy.
Now it was possible the forces working against him – or rather simply to profit off him – had already figured that out and he’d hear the alchemy lab exploded any moment now, but he’d sooner put it off for as long as he could.
To that end, he turned to Olzenya – though not before politely lowering her pointing arm.
Something that, to her credit, the high elf allowed – actually looking a little embarrassed by her outburst and thus rudeness.
“Honestly, I was expecting something like that to come from Bonnlyn, not you,” he said to the slightly flushed high elf.
As he glanced over toward where the dwarf was sitting, she shrugged. “I realize I may not be the most classically polite individual around, but I’ve been a merchant long enough to recognize when someone’s got a trade secret they want to keep close to their chests.”
If anything, Olzenya flushed harder, as while she might not have been familiar with trade secrets, she was most definitely familiar with the notion of house spells that needed to be kept secret.
“I also thought ambushing him at the door was a little rude,” Verity murmured from the back of the room.
Olzenya coughed, before backing up. “Of course, I apologize for that William.”
More bemused than anything else, especially as the elf curtsied, he waved a hand dismissively. “It’s fine. Or, understandable, I guess.”
“Good,” Ozlenya smiled, glad for his acceptance
 before she shouted again. “Because you lied to us.”
“I did?”
“He didn’t,” Marline said. “He said he had something to bet against Tala.”
Indeed he had, something he’d kept hidden under a sheet. After all, he’d not wanted his big surprise to be spoiled by the rumors of his coming beating him to the cafeteria.
And they would.
Rumors in the academy somehow managed to move at light speed.
“He implied it was gold,” Olzenya shot back.
“And you said Tala wouldn’t go for it, but you came with us anyway,” Bonnlyn said.
Indeed, he had implied it was gold. Or ‘something valuable enough to catch her interest’.
“To comfort him after she shot him down,” Olzenya said. “Instead I damn near tripped over my own feet in front of everyone when he pulled an honest to goddess mithril core out of his ass.”
William was actually a little thrown off – and amused – by the sudden display of crassness from the noble girl.
“But he didn’t lie.” It was actually a little surprising – and heartwarming – to hear Verity speaking so forcefully.
And that Olzenya didn’t immediately snap at her for doing so. The team really had come a long way in just a few months.
*Ah, the joys of shared suffering,* William thought as he watched the girls bicker amongst themselves.
“As I’m sure you’ve all guessed, I have indeed been less than open about a few things,” he said, silencing all of them – except Marline who’d yet to speak in the first place. “With that said, I’ve never once lied to you about my end goal.”
“Breaking off your betrothal,” Marline said finally.
“Breaking off my betrothal *without* starting a war,” he said. “If it were that easy, the Queen would have done it for me just now.”
“You met the Queen?” Olzenya sounded a little faint.
“I did.”
Oh, how he did.
“Oh ancestors, please don’t tell me you hit on the queen!?” This time Marline sounded a little faint.
And he actually felt a little offended. “What!? Why would you think that.”
“You’re doing the same thing you do when we talk about Instructor Griffith,” Bonnlyn said with studiously neutral voice. “Or Instructor Morline. Or Instructor Flen. Or some of the guards.”
“Or that one cafeteria lady,” Verity chimed in, a little red in the face.
“Or the-”
“I do not!” He’d finally had enough of these aspersion on his character.
Across the room, a number of sighs rang out, even from the elves.
“At least now I knew why he never checked me out,” Bonnlyn said. “He’s got mommy issues. And I’m not old enough to tickle them.”
“Still, the Queen?” Olzenya hissed.
“I mean, have you seen her?” Marline muttered back. “I mean, I don’t agree with him
 but I get it.”
“I didn’t ‘perv’ on the Queen.” Some part of him died on using such childish language. “We had a meeting about my plans and
 what occurred with Al’Hundra. Needless to say, the fact that I’m here means she’s agreed to go ahead with them and I’m also to keep quiet about anything I may or may not have had to do with any Kraken going missing. Or their cores.”
He deliberately left out the royal marriage offer.
Still, with those words the room went silent. After all, if the Queen had told him to say nothing, he was expected to say nothing. Just because the North in general didn’t have much respect for royal authority didn’t mean the rest of the kingdom did.
Quite the opposite.
“Well, if the Queen has commanded you to *remain* silent, I suppose there’s nothing to be done,” Olzenya muttered. “Though I would like answers some day.”
“Hell, I’d like to know why you brought Marline in on your plans,” Bonnlyn said, glancing at the Dark Elf. “You know, and not the rest of us.”
There was no missing the hint of hurt there – which he understood.
“I can promise you it was purely a matter of convenient circumstance,” he said. “And I can promise you, I didn’t confide in Marline for free.”
All the girls glanced up as the dark elf nodded slowly. “He’s not lying – though I can’t say anymore. Literally. It’s a price I paid willingly, but one I doubt any of you would be interested in.”
Almost as one, he could see the lightbulbs turn on in everyone’s brain simultaneously – except for Verity, who took a few seconds.
*‘Geass,’* thought none of them said it.
This time though, when the girls looked between him and Marline, there was a definite sense of wariness to it.
“Well, I suppose there’s nothing else to say then,” Bonnyln said. “I guess we should

William grinned. “Good idea. Big day tomorrow and all that.”
That was an understatement, and he could tell everyone was thinking it as they made their way over to their rooms.
Still, it was true all the same.
They’d need their rest if they wanted to stand a chance tomorrow.
Indeed, they’d need every advantage they could get.
To that end, William could only hope he’d stacked the deck in their favor enough to matter.

It took him a long time to get to sleep.
When he did awake, in the early hours of the morning, it was to the sound of an explosion.
*In the direction of the old alchemy labs if I’m not wrong,* he thought with a grim smile.
It seemed someone had decided to investigate his storage room even sooner than he’d anticipated.
Annoying, but it hardly mattered at this point in time.
All that really mattered was going back to sleep.

**Background**
I have been looking to buy a house for the past several years in the Fredericton area and have been checking the online listings regularly through Realtor.ca since it is the most common real estate listing website used in New Brunswick. What I liked about Realtor.ca was its ability to provide the average sell price for a house every month with graphs that showed the average sell price for a house in Fredericton for the past 12 months and 10 years. Looking for a house for an several years, I felt that I had a good idea of the market conditions and price ranges. My anecdotal evidence was that the average house price was much higher than Realtor.ca’s estimate of 288,300. I wondered if my anecdotal evidence could be supported by data.
The objective of this report is to collect list price data from all available listings within the Fredericton area. Once collected, I can take the average price and see if it matches the average price shown by Realtor.ca.
**Average/Median Methodology**
When you use Realtor.ca, you can filter results by the property type. There are six property type categories: Residential (single family home), condo/strata, vacant land, recreational, multi-family, and agriculture. For each of these property types, the asking price and address were copied into an Excel file. The data was collected on May 10, 2024, and included all listings within Fredericton; duplicate listings were removed.
Once all data was collected, the average and median for each property type was calculated (Table 1). I compared my calculated average to the Realtor.ca average to determine if my anecdotal evidence of thinking the average house price was higher than what Realtor.ca said was justified.
**Results**
There were 107 listings for residential houses (referred simply as “house” in this report), 245 listings for vacant land, 5 listings for recreational, 7 listings for multi-family, 2 listings for agriculture, and 10 listings for condos (Figure 1).
The average listing price was $543,878 for houses, $177,026 for land, $227,080 for recreation, $826,100 for multi-family, $829,450 for agriculture, and $317,410 for condos. The median listing price was $474,900 for houses, $64,900 for land, $229,900 for recreation, $799,000 for multi-family, $829,450 for agriculture, and $289,900 for condos (Table 1).
**Realtor.ca MLS System Average House Price Claim**
When you search for “houses for sale in Fredericton, NB”, you will see the top search results show Realtor.ca. This is not uncommon since Realtor.ca and its Multiple Listing Service (MLS) have the highest number of listings of any other online real estate listing service for the Fredericton, NB, area. Having most real estate listings concentrated on one system can provide users with a general idea of greater market conditions beyond individual listings, such as averages and trends for cities. Realtor.ca provides this data in the form of “Market Price (CAD)” price trends for the past 12 months, and price trends for the past 10 years (Figure 2). These figures are prominently displayed at the end of the first page of the Fredericton real estate listings (URL: https://www.realtor.ca/nb/fredericton/real-estate).
This leads us to the first claim by the Realtor.ca MLS system claim and our initial objective of this report.
Claim: The average market price in Fredericton sits at $288,300 as of May, 2024.
Analysis: When a user views these figures, it is a safe assumption that when a price is displayed, the user is inclined to believe that “Market Price (CAD)” is the average house price in Fredericton. This is further reinforced if the user reads the description above the figures which states:
“Use our home price trends to better gauge local market conditions and plan your next move. The graphs below show benchmark or average prices of homes sold in the area. Data generated by MLS¼ Systems and the MLS¼ Home Price Index (HPI) — Canada’s most advanced tool to gauge local home price levels and trends.”
This small paragraph specifically states, “The graphs below show benchmark or average prices of homes sold in the area.” Based off the graphs and their statement, we can safely interpret that Realtor.ca is explicitly saying that the average home price in Fredericton, NB, currently sits at $288,300; leaving no room for interpretation on how the data can be viewed. The reason I wanted to be explicitly clear on this thought process is that if you look back at the results section of this paper (Table 1) and see that the calculated average of all house listings was $543,878, it represents an 88.65% difference. A couple assumptions that could explain this difference are:
  1. The listings used in the analysis are only a snapshot in time and could not represent an accurate or precise representation of the monthly price average.
  2. Houses that were listed below the average could be selling more quickly, giving us a skewed data set that is not representative of all listings that have been posted.
  3. Realtor.ca gives the average sell price for houses in Fredericton and not the average listing price. There could be a large discrepancy between sell price and list price, resulting in my calculated average being inflated.
The three assumptions made above introduce bias into my conclusions, but given the magnitude of those differences, it could be reasonable to assume there might be an alternative reason causing these discrepancies.
Since there is such a large discrepancy in my calculated average and the average from Realtor.ca, I expanded my analysis to other categories. I combined my residential house data set with the other five property types to see if it would alter our initial average and how close it would come to the calculated Realtor.ca average (Table 2). Realtor.ca claims the average house price in Fredericton was $288,300, which seems to be closest to my calculated average for the combination of house and land listings. With the addition of these combinations, it suggests that Realtor.ca calculates average housing price using houses and land listings.
Realtor.ca MLS’s claim of the average house price in Fredericton, NB being $288,300 is a misrepresentation of the true market value and conditions. If a company were to calculate averages of an entire real estate market within an area, why would they only include house and land and not the other 4 categories?
**Misleading Representations by Realtor.ca**
The conclusions made from my analysis were made with plenty of explanations and assumptions. Given that the MLS system is a pay gated system, and their patented house price index algorithms are private, I feel it is reasonable to assume that my data is closer to true market prices. This leads us to the next question, if my data isn’t correct, why are the figures, calculations, and methodology misleading users on market conditions? The average user is not going to spend a significant amount of time manually collecting data and putting it into Excel to double check Realtor.ca. The company is the largest multiple listing system used in New Brunswick and holding that status comes with some form of implicit trust that the public holds for information it publishes. In this section, I will lay out sections and guidelines from the Competition Act and why I believe that Realtor.ca is violating the Act.
**Competition Act**
For the below, I will be using the most updated version of the Competition Act R.S.C., 1985, c. C-34, last amended on December 15, 2023 (https://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-34/page-1.html) and the “Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet” published by Competition Bureau Canada (https://publications.gc.ca/collections/collection\_2010/ic/Iu54-1-2009-eng.pdf)
*Section 2.2, Paragraph 4 of the Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet*
“Businesses should not assume that consumers read an entire Web site, just as they do not read every word on a printed page. Accordingly, information required to be communicated to consumers to ensure that a representation does not create a false or misleading impression should be presented in such a fashion as to make it noticeable and likely to be read.”
Explanation: Section 2.2 applies to the average house price and accompanying figures (Figure 2). Realtor.ca shows the average house price in text and graph form but does not disclose that these are house and land price average if my calculations are accurate.
*Section 4.1, Paragraph 1 of the Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet*
“If qualifying information is necessary to prevent a representation from being false or misleading when read on its own, businesses should present that information clearly and conspicuously. Businesses frequently use disclaimers, often signalled by an asterisk, to qualify the general impression of their principal representation when promoting their products or services. As mentioned earlier, the general impression conveyed by the representation, as well as its literal meaning, are taken into account in determining whether a representation is false or misleading.”
Explanation: Section 4.1 applies to Realtor.ca house price indices and other methodologies. A disclaimer in this case would be located within the same small paragraph above the figures. Instead, they use their own house price index to obfuscate their methodologies (Figure 2). Another option they give is below the graphs as “Ask a realtor for more detailed information” which creates an additional barrier to the users right under the Competition Act. Specifically, the “to qualify the general impression of their principal representation when promoting their products or services.” The “ask a realtor” hyperlink brings you to an additional page where you can find their realtors in your area. This is incentivizing the user to use their services over others to access more information. Realtor.ca has a majority market share in New Brunswick which further reinforces their monopolistic practices over real estate that hurts consumers.

“Businesses may effectively draw attention to a disclaimer so that it is more likely to be read by using attention-grabbing tools to display the disclaimer. In doing so, businesses must be careful not to design attention-grabbing tools in other parts of the advertisement in such a way that they distract the consumer’s attention away from the disclaimer, making it unlikely that the consumer will notice the disclaimer or recognize its importance.”
Explanation: Section 4.1.3 is further evidence of obfuscation and misrepresentation of their graphical aids and calculations. Similar to section 2.2 in the Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet, Realtor.ca placed those figures at the bottom of the first page of listings to draw the user’s attention to their interpretation of data.
*Section 52 (1) of the Competition Act: False or misleading representations*
“No person shall, for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, the supply or use of a product or for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, any business interest, by any means whatever, knowingly or recklessly make a representation to the public that is false or misleading in a material respect.”
Explanation: Section 52 (1) is the main argument for this report. I believe that Realtor.ca knowingly or recklessly misrepresented the average house price in Fredericton using deceptive graphical aids and created a home price index to further obfuscate the methodology.
I am not a lawyer, so I could be misinterpreting the sections of the Competition Act. I believe Realtor.ca has reached the threshold of violating the Competition Act since Section 52.1.1 states:
“For greater certainty, in establishing that subsection (1) was contravened, it is not necessary to prove that (a) any person was deceived or misled; (b) any member of the public to whom the representation was made was within Canada; or (c) the representation was made in a place to which the public had access.”
This amendment to the Competition Act removed the threshold of proving that an individual or the public were deceived or misled. I believe that Realtor.ca has violated all three elements of section 52.1.1 ensuring that they have met the threshold of violating section 52.1 of the Competition Act.
**Conclusion**
I have given numerous caveats to my analysis, so it is possible I have come to the wrong conclusions given the lack of transparency in methodology and limited time frame. One thing I can conclude with certainty, is that Realtor.ca is misrepresenting market conditions through their figures displaying average house prices, pay gates to information, and methodology disclosures guised as a patented as a housing price index. I believe that Realtor.ca should make it clear to the user how their housing price index is calculated. Realtor.ca and the MLS system has succeeded in market capture and fights to keep this information pay gated to only people that benefit from these misleading claims. Regardless of their reasons, these monopolistic practices only benefit anyone under their system through the restriction of information to shape the way the public perceives the market conditions, a clear violation of the Competition Act and a disservice to the public.
There was a lot more I wanted to cover like if Statistics Canada (u/StatCanada) sourced their data from the MLS system and the broader implications of sourcing data that could be misrepresentation. Again, I could be wrong and would welcome any additional relevant information.

The company is the largest multiple listing system used in New Brunswick and holding that status comes with some form of implicit trust that the public holds for information it publishes. In this section, I will lay out sections and guidelines from the Competition Act and why I believe that Realtor.ca is violating the Act.
**Competition Act**
For the below, I will be using the most updated version of the Competition Act R.S.C., 1985, c. C-34, last amended on December 15, 2023 (https://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-34/page-1.html) and the “Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet” published by Competition Bureau Canada (https://publications.gc.ca/collections/collection\_2010/ic/Iu54-1-2009-eng.pdf)
*Section 2.2, Paragraph 4 of the Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet*
“Businesses should not assume that consumers read an entire Web site, just as they do not read every word on a printed page. Accordingly, information required to be communicated to consumers to ensure that a representation does not create a false or misleading impression should be presented in such a fashion as to make it noticeable and likely to be read.”
Explanation: Section 2.2 applies to the average house price and accompanying figures (Figure 2). Realtor.ca shows the average house price in text and graph form but does not disclose that these are house and land price average if my calculations are accurate.

“If qualifying information is necessary to prevent a representation from being false or misleading when read on its own, businesses should present that information clearly and conspicuously. Businesses frequently use disclaimers, often signalled by an asterisk, to qualify the general impression of their principal representation when promoting their products or services. As mentioned earlier, the general impression conveyed by the representation, as well as its literal meaning, are taken into account in determining whether a representation is false or misleading.”
Explanation: Section 4.1 applies to Realtor.ca house price indices and other methodologies. A disclaimer in this case would be located within the same small paragraph above the figures. Instead, they use their own house price index to obfuscate their methodologies (Figure 2). Another option they give is below the graphs as “Ask a realtor for more detailed information” which creates an additional barrier to the users right under the Competition Act. Specifically, the “to qualify the general impression of their principal representation when promoting their products or services.” The “ask a realtor” hyperlink brings you to an additional page where you can find their realtors in your area. This is incentivizing the user to use their services over others to access more information. Realtor.ca has a majority market share in New Brunswick which further reinforces their monopolistic practices over real estate that hurts consumers.

“Businesses may effectively draw attention to a disclaimer so that it is more likely to be read by using attention-grabbing tools to display the disclaimer. In doing so, businesses must be careful not to design attention-grabbing tools in other parts of the advertisement in such a way that they distract the consumer’s attention away from the disclaimer, making it unlikely that the consumer will notice the disclaimer or recognize its importance.”
Explanation: Section 4.1.3 is further evidence of obfuscation and misrepresentation of their graphical aids and calculations. Similar to section 2.2 in the Application of the Competition Act to Representations on the Internet, Realtor.ca placed those figures at the bottom of the first page of listings to draw the user’s attention to their interpretation of data.
*Section 52 (1) of the Competition Act: False or misleading representations*
“No person shall, for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, the supply or use of a product or for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, any business interest, by any means whatever, knowingly or recklessly make a representation to the public that is false or misleading in a material respect.”
Explanation: Section 52 (1) is the main argument for this report. I believe that Realtor.ca knowingly or recklessly misrepresented the average house price in Fredericton using deceptive graphical aids and created a home price index to further obfuscate the methodology.
I am not a lawyer, so I could be misinterpreting the sections of the Competition Act. I believe Realtor.ca has reached the threshold of violating the Competition Act since Section 52.1.1 states:
“For greater certainty, in establishing that subsection (1) was contravened, it is not necessary to prove that (a) any person was deceived or misled; (b) any member of the public to whom the representation was made was within Canada; or (c) the representation was made in a place to which the public had access.”
This amendment to the Competition Act removed the threshold of proving that an individual or the public were deceived or misled. I believe that Realtor.ca has violated all three elements of section 52.1.1 ensuring that they have met the threshold of violating section 52.1 of the Competition Act.
**Conclusion**
I have given numerous caveats to my analysis, so it is possible I have come to the wrong conclusions given the lack of transparency in methodology and limited time frame. One thing I can conclude with certainty, is that Realtor.ca is misrepresenting market conditions through their figures displaying average house prices, pay gates to information, and methodology disclosures guised as a patented as a housing price index. I believe that Realtor.ca should make it clear to the user how their housing price index is calculated. Realtor.ca and the MLS system has succeeded in market capture and fights to keep this information pay gated to only people that benefit from these misleading claims. Regardless of their reasons, these monopolistic practices only benefit anyone under their system through the restriction of information to shape the way the public perceives the market conditions, a clear violation of the Competition Act and a disservice to the public.
There was a lot more I wanted to cover like if Statistics Canada (u/StatCanada) sourced their data from the MLS system and the broader implications of sourcing data that could be misrepresentation. Again, I could be wrong and would welcome any additional relevant information.

hello fellow users, this is my not first post in Reddit and i actually posted this a few months ago but i used the wrong wordings (i was not mentally stable) so a lot of people attacked me (yes i did re-read what i wrote before and the wording was horrible). I'm okay now and definitely more mature than before, understood human morals and yk those deeper than my asshole shit?? Anyways, i wanna know if i overreacted, so storytime :
So a few months ago, I've realised that my classmates don't seem to like me. Never knew why, they are just a bunch of rude, inconsiderate bitches. Literally the most attention seeking people I've ever seen. They would sometimes do stuff out of their way just to get people's eyes on them. I am one of the outcasts in my class, I don't join the popular girl groups and in fact i hate getting attention bc it stresses me out (have social anxiety). The only good thing about me is that I get top grades in English and i guess that's what I'm only known for. That's also one possible reason why my classmates never liked me. It's also kind of weird since one of THOSE classmates get good grades and everyone liked her for it, kinda unfair to me (if you get what i mean). Nevertheless, I never gave a single shit and they also see me as an invisible person. I don't know but one if my girlfriends told me that i look cold so i guess that somehow scares the shit out of my classmates? but whatever, that's just the background info.
Let's get into some details about the main point of this post. In January, there was a dodgeball competition. At first i was hesitant in joining, 1) i am the definition of self-isolation from any public events bc it's kinda useless to me, 2) the biggest bitches in my class joined. However since my friends wanted me to join with them i reluctantly agreed. After trying it out privately with my friends, I had taken a liking in dodgeball. I am good at dodging, which is quite a surprise to myself. I just enjoyed the fun of it overall. I practised with my classmates and things were pretty good so far. We were having fun. Until. Me and my classmates had a friendly match tgt. We got into groups and it started off pretty well. However, not long later, I was the last one standing, which was something not expected bc i thought i would lose immediately. But finally, after a good 10 minutes, i did manage to win against the other team, which was something never expected. So yk, i thought a small "congratulations" to me was probably the least you can do after any sort of competition or like a "good job" to your teammates? What they did instead, they went onto the more popular teammates and comforted, praised them for their hard work as an outfielder. Side note, the popular classmates did almost nothing but got eliminated on the first minute. I know and knew it was childish and weird of them and myself for expecting a single word from them but i was kinda disappointed that no one even said anything to me before and after the matches.
I was like whatever and just let it go bc they didn't know me so well. UNTIL ONE DAY.
Again, one friendly match and started a new round. It went on good so far until i tripped. Let me tell you when i tried to stand up, i felt a sharp pain in my left knee, like a needle. My classmates just stood there, said absolutely nothing and continued the round when i stood up. IN MY OPINION, helping someone out when they fall down is the least you can fucking do. However that rlly made me wonder if i did something wrong in the process, including the fact that i fell down etc.
I did not have a mental breakdown until when one of friends (one of my friends who joined the competition with me) told me that someone made fun of me of always falling down (yes i did fall down multiple times cuz i have a specific way of dodging that is prone for me to fall down) and even said shit basically saying how I'm not qualified to be in the competition. That was completely over my line and cried in bed that night.
I did absolutely nothing to them and i didn't expect them to do this to me. They also did other shady and shitty shit but i cant type them out in one post.
Right now, i kinda got over it but i can never forgive them for what they did to me and especially to my friends. But i wanna know if im the A.H. here. Thank you ! ! sorry for any typos, my keyboard is rigging lmao.

Defensive/less pressing football does work. It just requires a bit of thought.
I often see this sentiment in this subreddit that you have to play play a high line, you have to press intensly, you have to have possession and play high tempo, you have to use specific roles like the mezzala/cm - a and meta roles etc to win matches. That defensive football simply doesn't work and is bugged and bad in football manager. I don't really think this is the case. I just think you need to have the right squad and right tactics to make it work. On my current save, the most success I've had is by using mid block tactics with the objective of just shuffling around and blocking off attacks and then attacking relatively directly with swift interplay.
I'll use a couple of tactics to try to illustrate how this works:
My current tactic. It's inspired by mourinho's real, but with some modern possession ideas, like build up structure, 3 atb in possession and some positional play in attacking midfield.
The tactic I'm currently running is the original image.
Part of my objective with this tactic is to enable my creative players to do stuff without really being bound by too much structure. My right winger is an incredible dribbler with plenty of flair and playmaking ability - he's a bit like di maria for real, hugging the wing and coming inside to playmake. The shadow striker is offset to the right to help open space up for the ramdeuter, who's main ability is finishing, dribbling and pace. He'll also frequently end up overlapping the the right winger when he comes inside, disrupting the defense. I mainly want him on the ball to finish moves. My centre forward is humungous and pacey (18 jumping height, 15 pace + acc with plenty of dribbling ability). I want him to drop deep and facilitate play, while also being an option to run in behind and eat up crosses. This all combined enables my players to just do what they do best without having super tight roles. The shadow striker often ends up on the left, the rw ends up in the middle, ramdueter does random stuff, striker does whatever.
Note - you could easily swap out the ramdeuter for an inside forward or inverted winger. I think these roles are probably better and more consistent (last season my ramdeuter scored like 15 goals though). I'm mainly using a ramdeuter because this guy can't really pass but he's pacey and both footed, which means he's lethal when supported and has a primary focus of just getting in behind and scoring across the keeper, cutting in or delivering a cutback. Think timo werner who can dribble (and is clinical lol).
The midfield is inspired by mourinho's real madrid. I was using a segundo volante on the left, which worked well, but the player who functioned there got injured, so I've had to make do with a dm. Ultimately I just want a midfield that is functional, will defend and is able to move the ball forward quickly and play accurate balls up to the creative players. Both midfielders have good passing ability though only one is really a big tackler. I mainly just want good structure off the ball and some cautious support when attacking. Partly why I'm not adjusting the pressure slider here is because I mainly want the midfielders to stay compact and not attack the ball.
The defense depends on personel available. Though I like this 3 - 1 structure I end up with in buildup (3 atb + dlp in front, with dm pushing forward). Keeping the rb either on defense or as an inverted full back just gives me a solid rest defense when I'm in possession. The left back is very good at attacking and quite pacey, so I think having him as a cwb - a in attack helps me out in transition and when trying to break down defenses. This also helps with width with a ramdeuter but also enables him to go wide and the cwb - a to come inside to confuse the opposition.
Something to note is that the full backs has personal instructions to not press. I do not want my full backs to rush out and tackle wingers/midfielders - I've noticed that this causes defensive structure issues as they run out, miss the ball and then a winger bombs in the space they leave behind and get an easy opportunity to cross. You'll miss out on some interceptions for transition, but I think this means you'll be tighter in defense.
I havn't adjusted the pressing slider as I don't want to aggresively press the midfield - I want my players to generally use their structure to defend as opposed to pressing. They may mark tightly during goalkicks during build up in order to disrupt the opposition build up, but once this is breached or the opportunity is lost my team spread out into a mid block which sometimes resembles a 442 due to the shadow striker pushing up and blocking. I am telling my team to prevent short goalkeeper distribution as I have confidence that my central defenders will easily win header, but you can turn this off if you feel you want to win the ball more in buildup or in midfield.
Both the central forwards (so striker and shadow striker) are pressing more often in an attempt to intercept mistakes in buildup and start a counter.
I'm using a sweeper keeper on attack, but I think a regular keeper will probably suit well. I'm mainly using it because I like how sweeper keepers work in possession and I enjoy having a lunatic keeper.
I am running balanced mentality because I don't want my block to be too high up, and I don't want my players to be insanely risky (I've already got be expressive! Mourinho would not be happy!).
Season current stats. As you can see, we do not concede much and we score a lot
Old, incredibly direct tactic from 3 and 2 liga.
I also have an older tactic. This one got my striker 31 goals in the 2 Liga in a season, which was pretty insane. My winger had 20 assists. I don't have as much to say about it because I do not use it anymore. We pressed even less but pushed up a bit, so we weren't just defending the width of our box. This one was all about just getting the ball forward ASAP and plugging up the middle to make us hard to break down. Launching the ball up to the Target man meant we just breached whatever press there was and just dunked the ball into the box whenever there was a chance. Literally just launching the ball as far as possible is an incredible build up tactic, fuck pep.
I hope this post helps someone develop some ideas on making a defensive (or at least less pressing) tactics. It's fun to challenge yourself. For this football manager I've been trying my hardest to learn about more pragmatic or defensive styles of play, as I've been a massive possession hog for the past few FMs and have bored myself with being the next bald fraud.

Have some bots that idk what to do with.
Revenant:don’t use it atm, but I have trixie hope- and am looking to get skills to do with active module- like quartermaster (have it on my fenrir and love it). Whiteout drone probs. Worth upgrading? Considering I already have B-fenrir, as my main brawling bot
Crisis- not going to invest too heavily into this bot (since it’ll die against anything in a proper 1v1 anyway). Might level up some weapons to use on it. But idk what- I’d like something that can be transferred to other bots for some versatility. I have 1 reaper, and 2 gauss. But idk if I’d ever use them on anything else. Smuta seems fun. And I could it on siren (if I get one).
Typhon- really dk what to do. Aware that it’s quite versatile, but that means I have no idea what build to commit to. Does seem fun, but quite risky. Can die very easily. And only have the health to take maybe 2 x 1v1s. Seems very reliant on ms/modules to re-heal between fights. Which I don’t like too many bots to have.
Demeter- I find this bit pretty poor in 1v1’s, and only good to support other bots with the shield. So is still a very nice option to have, but often underwhelming.
Khepri- have 4 spears, but don’t use Otto, and don’t know where else I’d use them. Have 2 magnetars atm, but again, unsure whether to invest in more if they aren’t gonna be used on other bots.
Ophion- originally I benched it after the nerf, but have been getting smoked by it recently. Is it still that good?
Skyros- finding it really hard to use. I don’t enjoy the time-wasting, non combat playstyle of it a lot of the time. But I understand how good it can be
Fafnir. Is T-fafnir actually as good as a B-fenrir?? I don’t have it levelled, and don’t have many medium weapons to spare (except tarans). But I love my B-fenrir, for when I cba to deal with abilities, and can just simply brawl.

Yesterday I opened a store on Reverb to sell a few pedals I don’t want anymore. I went through the verification process uploading my data, the ID card and credit card details. In just a few hours I received 3 replies, but they all looked quite shady to be honest. I would like to use this thread to highlight the kind of environment that Reverb represents for new users. Actually, after less than 24 hours I’m wondering whether I should just close my account and sell my gear elsewhere. I sold stuff on many platforms over the past years. I've occasionally dealt with scammy buyers and sellers at some point, but this is the first time that I receive so many suspicious messages in such a short time and this really makes me wonder - as a new user to the platform - whether Reverb is a good place to be. I’m talking about 3 different users, all mostly trying to look like an automatic message from Reverb that’s asking me to provide all sorts of information (e-mail address, credit card details, etc.) all over again shortly after I published my first listing. One was particularly shady. Actually, they were all kinda shady in different ways. For starters, it’s just odd to receive this kind of “automatic” requests as a reply to my listings instead of receiving an email directly from Reverb. Anyway, here are the messages.

This one was empty and I received it moments after publishing my first listing. The timing was so good that I really thought that it was a system generated message at first. It just contained an official-looking flier (very well put together) with the Reverb logo, some information and a QR code for the verification of my credit card. The name of the user was “Clients Centre” and it had as a picture a confirmation mark similar to the ones that verified users have on certain platforms (I realized only later that this was just the profile picture). This account was now disabled, but it definitely looked the part for a moment

This one looked immediately like a pure scam. The link itself doesn’t even look official and I’ve never seen a platform sending you a link that you have to edit before using it. “Lisa Ag3nt” is also a very odd name and when I clicked on it, it already said “account disabled” so this was a no brainer.

This could look almost normal at a first glance. The customer had a name and a surname and the message wasn't asking for much. That said, I never received any e-mail confirming the sale and the idea that I have to send my email address in the chat as a reply to the customer who allegedly bought the pedal just to receive further “instructions” is odd at best. It’s just hard to believe that any platform out there would handle the payment like this. Not to mention that at this point I already experienced the warm welcome of the other two swindlers.

So this is it. Now, I know that Reverb will not contact me like this and I do understand that stopping these people preventively isn't an easy task. At the same time, after my first day on Reverb, the scammer to user ratio seems surprisingly high in the worst possible way. Luckily for me, most of them were pretty bad at their job. I'm sure that there are a ton of honest people on the platform. I'm not trying to generalize here. Nevertheless, I pretty much experienced more phishing attempts in a few hours on Reverb than in 10 years of casual sales on eBay, Facebook and a variety of national platforms. I’m genuinely surprised by the amount of shady messages that a new store has to face on Reverb in the first 2-3 hours of activity. TLDR: I'm trying to get my ex girlfriend back who has BPD, but shes ignoring me.
I'll cut to the main problem at hand; My ex was seeing someone else (their ex from December-January) about a few months ago even though I told them I wanted to wait and process my past relationships that I had before being with them so I can be a better healed person for them. This broke my heart, and so here I am.
For a while she was ignoring me but still had me in contact. One time she blocked me then unblocked me, which confused me.
One time I noticed she was offline for the entire day so I decided to give her a call and she picked up, but she couldn't talk so she texted while I spoke. She asked if I was "talking to any cute girls lately" and as well she dropped a few complaints about her ex-now-boyfriend, saying she felt like he was purposely ignoring her. She told me she wished she knew me in person (LDR btw) and how she wanted a shoulder to cry on and she wanted me to hug her and hold her, as well as saying how she told her boyfriend she was sad and he didn't acknowledge it, showing a screenshot of the guy actually not saying anything about her being sad when she explicitly said "im sad" (what a fuckin prick.). She explained the block before was that she was hiding me from her ex-now-boyfriend and he didn't like how she would stay in contact with me. She wanted us to sleep in call together but eventually changed her mind saying how "I deserve to be alone, its what he wants". I didn't want to disrespect her decision and let her rest. We had a good weekend together but eventually her energy for me fizzled out and she stopped responding again for weeks. I tried calling her a few times one day and she ended up blocking me.
I contacted her on an alternative account and she ended up accepting my friend request and we talked. She asked me again if I had a girlfriend which I said no and asked why I was "obsessed" with her. I explained how I love her company, that I like her as a person, and how she's nice to be around, in which she replied with "whatever". So I asked if she would be comfortable staying in contact with me again in which she said no, and I asked if we could talk about it and she said "not now", so I gave her space.
Ex-now-ex-again and her broke up, and I tried to contact her about it telling her I would be there if she needed support. I wasn't pushing anything romantic on her but instead reinforcing the idea of comfort and support. I reached out saying "Hey (name), can we talk for a minute? You don't have to if you'd like." (added the second second to avoid applying pressure) in which she ended up blocking me again, and here we are.
What's going on with her? Do I still have a chance of getting her back? I know how to handle this, I've known her for foir years now and so I'm prepared for her ups and downs with BPD, but what should I do now?
I've talked to an AI relationship coach (I can't afford one nor can I even buy one at the moment) and it suggested a "two week rule"; where I give her space for two weeks and attempt to reach out again. If she doesn't respond or blocks me again, give her another two weeks. It says it will make her feel like I'm not abandoning her while giving her the space she needs. Is that effective?

Motherhood. One the most demanding yet essential duties that billions of women have shouldered since the beginning of time. Yet, in society’s efforts to support this role, many unintended consequences have caused women to deviate from and postpone motherhood.
While there are the obvious reasons for delaying children: contraception, education, career plans, there are other reasons why I have been turned off to motherhood for most of my young adult life.
Growing up, many of my female role models were stay-at-home mothers. I observed their housekeeping, unconditional support of their husbands, moral contributions to the family and accessibility. I also observed postpartum depression, silent tears, disordered eating, worried nights and a lack of personal time. I admire them so much, but for a long time, motherhood scared me. It’s scary to think that once I become a mother, my body and personhood could be objectified, held hostage by idealized yet unattainable standards and evaluated by my body’s usefulness. Society’s pervasive maternal objectification causes women to self-objectify before they even become mothers.
As I reflected on this disconnect between how society encourages motherhood while simultaneously undervaluing the individual women in these roles, I was reminded of “the Madonna-whore complex.” This term, first coined by Sigmund Freud to support his Oedipal theories, describes a phenomenon that still permeates our societal views of gender. Originally meant to dichotomize female characteristics and sexuality into two parts, Madonna and whore, it is now a belief that perpetuates patriarchal oppression. Madonna refers to chaste, virtuous and motherly traits, while whore refers to promiscuous, easy and hypersexual traits. This has influenced how most men and women have internalized women’s bodies and purposes.
Women are often expected to fulfill roles and expectations that benefit men. When women are objectified, they are only seen in the role they are placed in. Society’s obsession with women’s bodies and agency is overtly seen in the sexualization of women, particularly in media. Maternal objectification is when women are seen as a literal object, a “human incubator” or “womb for rent,” and are “treated as bodies that exist for the use or consumption of others, stripped of their individuality and personality.”
Motherhood, though extremely necessary and remarkable, is undervalued. This contributes to objectification since it celebrates women for their body’s usefulness and dismisses the broad range of women’s experiences.
Once a woman becomes and shows she is pregnant, there is a cultural invitation to maternally objectify the woman’s body and identity. A recent systematic review of 23 studies on the objectification of motherhood found patterns of objectification at the hands of others and oneself. By others, many women experience a loss of autonomy especially with nonconsensual belly-touching, comments about one’s weight and appearance, and frequent questioning about when they’ll have another baby. One may cause self-objectification by adopting an outsider’s “perspective on one’s body and value.” Self-objectifying causes a disconnect between an individual and their body and correlates with postpartum depression, disordered eating, body shame, negative beliefs about breastfeeding and fear of childbirth. Even those who do not have children may start to self-objectify their body, forsaking personal identity for societal utility.
What are the consequences of maternal objectification? Women are not seen as individuals and are treated as flattened caricatures labeled as “mother.” When I was in first-grade filling out a Mother’s Day card for my mom, I was asked what her favorite thing to do was. I put “folding laundry.” It was not until I grew up that I realized how little I actually knew about my mom as a person. On top of stripping women of their unique personalities, maternal objectification also leads to isolation as some women may feel like their efforts are not enough or they do not meet the traditional stay-at-home image. This is detrimental for women as they contemplate motherhood, are in the thick of it or interact with other mothers.
So what can be done? Dr. Julie Hanks gave a TedTalk reframing motherhood from a role to a relationship. A central principle for this shift is valuing women in all their responsibilities and achievements, whether that includes motherhood or not, instead of idealizing motherhood as a role. In regards to self-objectification, women should see motherhood as a relationship, an opportunity to connect.
Another way to move away from maternal objectification is to recognize women as multi-dimensional. If mothers rely on all aspects of their identity in their endeavors, not only does their personhood remain intact but the idea of motherhood is expanded. Women can set themselves free from the false narrative that motherhood needs to be perfect. Forcing women in the Madonna-whore binary perpetuates objectification and causes harm.
Let us stop labeling and reducing mothers to a role when they are so much more than that.

I'm in need of some advice regarding my current marital situation and the potential sale of our home. To give you the full picture, I'll start from the beginning. Apologies for the length, but I feel all the details are necessary to understand the context.
I (29F) met my husband (40M) on Tinder four years ago. We dated for about eight months when my family had an opportunity to purchase a property. My then-boyfriend was also looking to be involved in a business deal of that sort, and he was interested in having his name on the property as well. My father supported this, seeing as how my boyfriend was a physician with a good income, and saw this as a way to bring him closer to our family. The opportunity came quickly, and we all signed the contract to purchase the house.
Trouble began shortly after this. My boyfriend requested that only he and I be on the title of the house, removing the rest of my family, as he saw a future with us and envisioned it as our potential family home. My father was very pleased to hear this and supported it, so we obliged. During this time, the property had increased in value, and I requested the other family members be paid off so we could buy out their shares. My boyfriend declined, feeling it was unfair.
To skim over some details, here are the highlights of the construction: My boyfriend paid more for the down payment than we initially realized would be required. Because of this, he paid no further construction costs. The construction proceeded with debt from my family until the construction loans came through. My family paid for the construction, and my father built the house for us without charging for his management services. My father was displeased with my boyfriend’s behavior and required him to pay more money for the construction due to inflation and the COVID shutdown. My boyfriend declined, and my mother and I secretly took out a line of credit to front the construction costs to my father, pretending it was from my boyfriend. Eventually, as we got the construction loans on a rolling basis after meeting construction milestones, my mother’s line of credit was paid off.
During this time, my family and I wondered why my boyfriend had not proposed. I decided that if he hadn't proposed by a certain time, I would leave him. Fortunately, he did propose on Valentine’s Day 2022. By spring of 2022, construction was coming to an end, and it was time for us to settle into the house. My fiancĂ© felt uncomfortable with how much money he had put into the house and was worried I could leave him and make a profit. I promised him I wouldn’t leave him, but it wasn’t enough. He said he would believe me if I had a child with him, otherwise women would leave men if there were no ties. I told him I would have a child with him right when we got married. He suggested I come off birth control, as it takes months for a woman’s cycle to normalize after being on birth control for many years. I promised him I would come off birth control.
Coming off birth control was more stressful than I realized. I was very hormonal, breaking out, and felt unlike myself. This contributed to my fiancĂ© and I fighting more than usual. In one particularly heated fight, I told him I would go back on birth control and even purchased the pills, but he told me he would break up with me if I did because he wanted to get to know the real me. I conceded, and then something switched in me and I became excited at the possibility of having a baby. I started tracking my cycle and figuring out my ovulation days. I shared this with my fiancĂ©, and on one of those days, we got pregnant. I didn’t find out until the end of summer 2022. When I did find out, I told my fiancĂ© and suggested we should probably get married.
My fiancĂ©'s first response was that we should wait to see if the baby sticks, and if it does, then we can plan a marriage but he wanted to wait until February 2023. I was very disappointed and angry and yelled at him. I felt alone and overwhelmed by the thought of having an illegitimate child. After discussing potentially getting an abortion, potentially breaking up, and potentially selling the house, I talked my fiancĂ© into keeping the baby and getting married. He also wanted to keep the baby but was afraid of our situation. After many fights about when to have the wedding, we finally decided on December 2022. At that point, I was four months pregnant. During this time, my fiancĂ© and I had major arguments that therapy couldn’t even remedy. We would yell at each other, slam doors, I would cry, and he would hold himself up in a room for hours. We had nice moments too, but they were heavily clouded over by the bad.
Finally, we got married, and things were good for a while. But then we faced some marital problems. My husband kept separate accounts and managed the finances himself. We had a joint credit card where I could pay for expenses without being questioned. He made all of the major investment decisions and major purchases. If I tried to disagree or speak up, he would get upset because this was not the submissive wife I had promised him I would be. I made significantly less money than him but lived a good lifestyle, buying almost anything I wanted within reason. Coming from a traditional family, I was upset that finances were kept separate. And so it continued that my husband would invest tens of thousands of dollars into our house so that his family from out of town would visit. We live in Vancouver, Canada, but his family is from Ottawa. In hopes of luring his youngest sister (of four) to Vancouver, my husband would make any modification to the house that his youngest sister showed the slightest interest in. This included a hot tub on the rooftop, a media system in the basement, a movie projector, and much more. After said sister got married, she made it clear that she would not move to Vancouver. Then a switch happened in my husband, and he suddenly wanted to sell the house.
Meanwhile, during all this time, I had my baby, and my husband and I were still fighting more than ever. I felt no support from him, and he felt drained by his work, our fights, and being away from his family. Recently, for the past three months, he has been consistently pushing for the sale of our house. This is where my dilemma lies. I am afraid to sell this house because my husband has kept finances separate, and the mortgage on this house has been serving as a way for me to feel secure. My husband contributes a monthly amount on a regular basis. He could have forced a sale in the past but didn’t, instead paying into the monthly mortgage on top of other bills. Now, he is considering forcing the sale of our house, but I am upset that he is citing financing as the issue when I have been begging him to save money instead of spending (his response is that $200,000 does not affect a $2M mortgage, and that he now feels burnt out and wants to retire sooner and live passively). If I agree to sell, I feel unstable about moving from our home given that my husband and I fight so frequently, and I am left alone to take care of the child. It is also worth noting that my parents live right across the street and come over frequently to help with the child, or I would go over to seek their help. My husband says that he feels abandoned and uncomfortable frequently because of our proximity to my parents, but I feel it’s only been helpful because there have been times when I felt truly alone, and my parents were my only solace and support. My husband would ignore me for days, especially when I was postpartum and vulnerable. My parents now see my husband as someone who doesn’t put his wife and child first. My husband says that the massive mortgage we have is too stressful for him, and he can’t take that burden. I am sad that my husband will not consider keeping this house for another three years so that I can get comfortable with the idea of selling the house and that potentially I and my family can all move to Ottawa so that we can allow my husband to be closer to his family. My husband says that he’s tired of the mortgage and feeling forced to work and missing out on spending time with our daughter (his job is very high stress).
I don’t know what to do at this point, Reddit. I’m currently on extended maternity leave, but it ends in six months. My husband and I will have to come to an agreement about the house, otherwise, it is likely that he will force the sale of the house even if I’m not ready to move. I’ve consistently felt rushed and overlooked in this relationship. I am tired of being the small voice that does not impact decision-making. My husband is now being nice to me and trying to show me a good time, but I see it as him turning on his charming mode so that I can say yes to the sale of this house. I’m not sure what to do. Our fights and disagreements are so bad and the marriage feels like doom sometimes (never any physical violence). I sometimes questions even staying with him, but I worry for my daughter. I’m afraid of her being an only child of divorce; I imagine it’ll be lonely and emotionally traumatizing. He is a good father to her, even though he is cold (but civil) with me.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not long ago in early May, I ran a croquinol booth for students and parents at a Children's Day event (it was held on the grounds of the University of Education)
The head of the school affairs department suggested, "I heard you like board games, do you want to run a booth?" so I thought very hard. Actually, it was bothersome.
In the end, I accepted because I wanted to make good memories with children as well as selling croquinol. At first, I thought it was easy to take a few croquinols and play a few rounds.
It wasn't long before I realized that the idea was very wrong. This is because there were so many things to consider operating the booth. The program should be organized in consideration of the number of users and the number of people visiting.
The arrangement of objects and the movement of people should also be considered. I shouldn't think, 'I'm done explaining the game to the students in moderation and watching them play.'
I have to think about the details. I thought about it until the day of operation and right before it started. Now that it's been decided so far, I'll have to recruit staff to run it together (this was the most difficult problem)
