i really would love to get back into therapy, i went when i was a teenager (21 now) but had a not so great experience with my therapist. also it was for different reasons than BDD.
but i was in a group on facebook for others with BDD & so many of them had horror stories regarding reaching out to therapy for help with BDD. saying that their therapists didn’t understand the illness basically & didn’t know how to treat them properly ultimately making their issues worse. that’s terrifying for me because i can’t see this getting ANY worse for me lol.
also, i don’t want to just accept the fact that i’m just “ugly”. i don’t want someone giving me ways to cope with being ugly. i have a boyfriend who truly does not understand the illness either & is absolutely NO help & if anything makes the situation worse at times. long story short, we had a falling out because of an argument & a fat joke coming from him because he knows how to get under my skin. i haven’t been able to really see him the same anymore, especially because my triggers have been ssooooo bad lately, he knew this & continued to say it. anyways, a few days after the fact he took a photo of me off guard that absolutely SENTTT me over the edge. i think i’ve cried at least once everyday after that picture. genuinely i don’t think i’ll ever recover from that picture. i tried venting to him, trying to make him understand i’m not angry he took the picture, i’m upset over the way i look in it. he continues to give me the worst advice, saying i should watch “hope core” videos on youtube, & that everyone perceives the way i look differently, because i said “well i definitely don’t look THAT bad when i look in the mirror.” seriously i looked like a demon from another planet & i swear i look in the mirror at least 50 times a day & NEVER look that terrible. i do look gross all the time just not that bad lol.
anyways what i was trying to get at was i took his advice as “you may think your ugly & maybe you are but look at the brighter side.” i don’t want that advice. i don’t want to necessarily feel like the most beautiful woman on the planet but i want to feel okay with myself when i look in the mirror. I WANT to feel at the least pretty & learn how to make myself feel good. i mean coping mechanisms would be lovely but i don’t want to accept the fact that i’m ugly. ://

I am one of three roommates all 25F. I moved in here after my lease was up and I found it on an Facebook group looking for roommates. I messaged my one roommate on the forum, Sam (25F), and immediately clicked and after viewing, I decided to go ahead and agree to be the third roommate. We were all in a group chat with each other, me, Sam and the roommate in question, Lana. We all got along and I was very excited. My roommate Sam, texted me separately and said “I don’t want to poison you against her but she really struggles with follow through and cleaning”. I told her, between the two of us, we can have a roommate meeting and sort out what our expectations and boundaries. She liked that and I moved in on April 20th. The house was a disaster moving in. It reeked of cat piss and shit and smelled like weed. My family was very concerned but after I calmed them down, I got to work to clean. Before this, Lana said that she would clean her stuff and since I am paying for two rooms, she will clean the cat piss and shit and the smell will be gone. This was over a month before I moved in. She never did it and after me asking her, politely to clean the rooms I am paying for she said “I can’t clean it because the carpet cleaner is broken”. It is also probably important to mention she has two cats and a dog. I have a dog who has an ESA and is in training and is always attended or being crated trained. The whole two weeks I moved in, I felt sick with the smell and my dog and I were living in one room together and I finally had enough of her excuses and bought the supplies to clean the rooms. I cleaned the rooms and the bathroom (which also smelled like cat piss and weed) and I basically begged her and my other roommate to be respectful of the fact that I cleaned the whole upstairs. Sam lives on the top floor (attic) she has a cat but that cat does not leave the area. My dog is crated when I am not home or at doggie daycare. Lana’s animals roam around and cause havoc in the house. On top of all that, she leaves her stuff all over the house for days if not since I moved here (it’s been over a month at this point), smokes weed when we are a non-smoking household, loiters the house with stuff, doesn’t pay bills on time (we might get our electric shut off because she won’t send her part), complains about not having money but buys stuff online and DoorDashes all the time (none of my business but can’t pay bills?), absolutely refuses to meet with us about concerns, doesn’t control her dog so her dog comes at my dog and our landlord is coming to inspect. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the shit on our porch gets us a fine because it’s against neighborhood regulations. I am so exhausted and stressed and I can’t live like this. I feel horrible everyday and I don’t like eating here and I can’t stand her and her constant disrespect. I’ve tried to like her or talk to her but nothing gets done.
Side note: She broke our washer (landlord only provides hookups so we are screwed)
I don’t want to lose my deposit and I want to leave. She’s incompetent and probably stupid because she doesn’t understand how a lease works.
My pet fee is waived in my state because of ESA (I think that’s federal) but she owes money on her THREE pets and wants to fool the landlord, only having to pay for one.
Please give me advice and if this is enough to take to the landlord.

I’m afraid I need a helping hand in non-biased, unsolicited advice.
Around 2 months ago, me and my group of friends who are all girls became friends with a guy in our college.
The first time we all went out for lunch in campus, I only told my boyfriend that I was having lunch with my girl friends as I was afraid he would react negatively since he generally didn’t want me talking to guys. The second time we all went out for lunch, I didn’t tell my boyfriend that he was there either. In between the span of 2 months, this guy would occasionally reach out to me to initiate talks about classes and persuading our other friends to come to class (since our class schedule was a hybrid setup of online and in-person classes). There is no flirting, there was a clear sign of boundaries, but I talked to him as casually as I would to any good friend.
I’m faithful to my boyfriend, and I compromised my own characteristics in limiting myself and not talking to guys because to him, it was a way to keep him assured that I’m not going to look at anyone else. At the same time, my boyfriend said he wouldn’t talk to any girls to assure me that he won’t be unfaithful.
I always thought it was rather unsettling and untrusting of him to do that. Am I wrong? I’ve been in a really healthy relationship before to know that if my partner trusted me and vice versa, no matter who I talk to or no matter who I hang out with, they would trust that I set clear boundaries for myself in respect of our relationship and each other, knowing that while there are restrictions, I’d be happy knowing I can be comfortable talking to people on casual terms because I have no intention of cheating whatsoever.
Now I’ve hid the fact that I was friends with this guy for 2 months, knowing now that I shouldn’t have if I had nothing to hide, but my boyfriend followed both the guy’s and my girl friends’ social accounts and discovered their social media pictures from when we all went to lunch and hung out at school. My boyfriend confronted me about that, asking me all sorts of questions like why I hid that guy friend from him, asking for screenshots of our direct/private conversations and group conversations too (which I did provide). I explained that initially, I just didn’t want him to worry about the guy and that I planned to tell him when I found good timing to mention it, but overtime it was just prolonged. My boyfriend was also hysterical and asking me why I replied so fast to his messages, but I was basically like this with other people too, so I didn’t really think that replying fast to a guy was a big deal.
Well, fast forwarding this story, my boyfriend made me block the guy. He even asked me to snob the guy for a day just for me to make it up to him. I said I can’t do that because I didn’t want to create unnecessary drama within our circle of friends. So I compromised by telling him I’ll keep my answers short and direct whenever the guy talks to me, and that I wouldn’t talk to him unless we were with my other girl friends. My boyfriend said that I need to make up for what I did to him, where my actions of keeping the guy hidden caused him to overthink and feel so bothered by the guy’s existence.
We talked about this issue a few times now. Each time I thought we would move past it, he goes back to reading my conversations with the guy and tries to question every little detail he spots and questions my faithfulness. I had already told him I would be transparent and that I won’t hide anything like that from him anymore, so I wanted us to learn and move past this, but he’s making it really hard for me to support him. He told me to just show him I care by supporting what he makes me do and cooperating, but I’m torn by the toxicity.
Am I supposed to be more patient and understanding like he said he needed me to be because I needed to regain his trust? Please me a hand. I haven’t talked to any of my friends or family about this. I’m scared of how he’d react or feel about it.

2024.05.21 20:29 Kooker321 (Spoilers Extended) Appreciating George RR Martin despite his struggles. Accepting and enjoying what he's been able to create for his readers

I'm not trying to make excuses for him, as I really do think that The Winds of Winter is long overdue, and clearly his priorities are not the same as his readers. He spends lots of time attending events, working on side projects like Wildcards, A Song of Ice and Fire spinoff series (including Fire & Blood and the similarly delayed Dunk & Egg), film and TV production (including writing and producing credits on various GoT episodes).
But people keep calling him lazy, a hack, or incapable. It's just not painting the full picture. I really do think he's more of a person who can't keep his priorities in order and is struggling with making progress on a really complex series that he's trying to get right. We all saw how badly the show messed up the ending, and he's already publicly said that he's thrown out so much material because it wasnt exactly what he'd hoped. Plus the previous two books have gotten so expensive that it's really hard to bring everything together. Just look at what the show had to cut - Young Griff, Lady Stoneheart. Additionally he's already had to work his way through retcons (Tyrion's acrobatics) and shifts in structure (no time skip).
It's also worth noting that the first 5 books of a Song of Ice and Fire is already one of the longest series ever. It is 1.75 million words! That's 3 times as long as Lord of the Rings, and nearly double the 7 Harry Potter books. It's really hard to criticize someone so harshly who is struggling to complete one of the most complex and ambitious fantasy stories ever written (source: https://www.reddit.com/asoiaf/comments/5of6eh/no_spoilers_i_counted_the_words_of_each_asoiaf/).
The Winds of Winter is clearly on the way, since hundreds of pages have been cut from A Dance with Dragons and have been given to the public as previews. I doubt we'll ever get ADOS, but I'm sure TWOW is inevitable at some point (even posthumously, knock on wood).
I just think readers have to understand that the man is struggling and give him some grace. He's not failing to deliver the last two books out of laziness or spite. He's truly having a difficult time. Very few authors alive are capable of creating a story of this quality on this scale. And while the time between books is getting longer and longer, the story has gotten more and more complex. It's possible that we'll never get the full, complete ending. Maybe just TWOW in print plus the TV show ending. And honestly, I'm okay with that and still appreciate that he created this world for us. I've had an incredible time reading and watching the series, even with the main books remaining incomplete.

2024.05.21 20:23 anonslap Made a mistake a year ago that turned out to be inconsequential, struggling to know if I should tell my partner or not

I accidentally disclosed some of mine and my partners personal banking info (no full numbers, everything but the last 4 of our credit card and socials were concealed). It's a long story but basically I accidentally sent a "preview" version of this bank document to someone buying something from me on Facebook because I didn't realize my picture previews were open on the screen shot I sent. So the pic of the document was really tiny and difficult to read but not impossible. I messed up on multiple levels, I'm aware and I have 100% learned from this experience.
So when this happened I didn't immediately tell my husband because we, specifically he, had a lot going on and I was terrified this would push him over the edge. A couple days after this happened he was in an accident and he was in a really dark place mentally. Then over the next year its just been one thing after another and it never felt like the right time and it was becoming clear that the mistake actually turned out to be fine thankfully. The person I sent it to stated they deleted the picture (which of course they could lie about I know) but it's not like I fell for a scam, this person made a legit purchase from me and then that was that. I really don't think they're interested in our personal info. I stalked the shit out of their profile and they're a legit person with kids and a house and friends and all that. I still recognize I Massively f-ed up and I fkng hate myself for it but now I'm wondering if I should even tell my husband about this incident. I feel SO guilty for not telling him because it was his info I compromised too and I feel he has a right to know, and at the same time I'm wondering if telling him at this point will only cause undue stress on him since nothing came of the mistake. I'm really trying to not be selfish in my choice here but they both feel selfish in their own way.
I talked with my therapist and through that discussion came away with the thought that it wouldn't do any good to tell him at this point but the fact that I'm being dishonest is giving me such intense anxiety and the thought of hiding this forever kills me, but also I don't want him to go through unnecessary anxiety about the situation since it's really fine now. I flip flop day to day on what I feel is best and each feels equally compelling. My therapist suggested telling him when it had been long enough "for it to be funny" but I am having a hard time seeing how this could ever be funny.
I know I suck, please don't reply just to tell me that. I'm trying to figure out how to respond best in this situation.

Hi everyone, I’ve tried to find people on this subreddit with similar experiences, but I’ve had no luck so I figured I would create my own post and see if anyone had any advice. So I (24F) have been dating my boyfriend (24F) for the past 7 years. It’s been a good and healthy relationship, except the fact that I feel extremely uncomfortable around his family. His mom and brother are quiet and we don’t talk much, however his dad has been an issue throughout our relationship. I guess to give some context, my boyfriends dad is not a good person. According to my boyfriend, his dad has admitted to being a delinquent all his life. He’s stolen from friends and family, has done a ridiculous amount of drugs, driven drunk and nearly killed himself in a car crash and more. In recent years, he’s been verbally abusive towards his wife and kids, has a bad temper and is aggressive and offensive to anyone who doesn’t agree with his opinions.
All of this hasn’t really affected me other than seeings bits and pieces of his behaviour when I’m at their home but I can’t do anything aside from ignoring it. However, in the last 3 years or so, I’ve started to feel uncomfortable with the ‘jokes’ or comments he makes towards myself or in general about women. Just to name a few instances, he was pissed off at his wife about something insignificant and when it was just me and him alone in the living room he said ‘if only I were younger I’d get with someone like you’. Or the many times I’ve caught him looking at me up and down for too long and calling me pretty. Recently, he’s started taking pictures of family members, which sounds innocent enough. Except that he always finds a way to take photos of me alone or his younger sons girlfriends which he chose to print and frame for himself. Then he picks up the photo every once in awhile and says ‘ I don’t want to sound like a creepy old man but these girls are gorgeous’. I don’t want to sound crazy or dramatic but there have been several instances where I felt extremely uncomfortable by how he looks at me, I can’t even explain it properly. This extends to my boyfriends’ brothers girlfriend as well as other younger women who are considered family friends. He makes constant remarks about their bodies and how they look and then goes on to compare his wife to us and says she doesn’t look as good as we do. Recently there was a conversation that took place about a new movie with an attractive female celebrity and he interrupted by saying that ‘she has a fat ass, she’s sexy and that she’s all over his Facebook feed and he loves looking at her’ in front of his wife and kids. Anytime anyone calls him out on his language or behaviour he jumps to the ‘I’m joking’ excuse when we know he isn’t.
Just to add, he also makes it a point to embarrass both his sons on their appearance and says that we as their girlfriends are out of their leagues. My boyfriends can’t do anything about it because if he does, his dad explodes and gets angry which causes the household atmosphere to shift into chaos for a long time afterwards. All I feel I can do is to avoid him as much as possible but I still feel uncomfortable in their home when he’s around. Any advice? Thank you all in advance
TLDR; my boyfriend’s dad is creepy, how do I handle it?
Edit to add: the reason I still go to their house is because we are allowed to have privacy in his room. My parents are strict and don’t allow me to be anywhere in my home with my boyfriend unless the doors are open. He also can’t step foot in my room under any circumstance. RULES -> No hacking, cheating, exploits, hateful language, bullying, toxicity... basically don't be a dick. That pretty much covers it but more detailed rules can be found ingame. Fairness is going to be paramount on here, so you can be assured that players caught cheating will just be banned immediately.
NOTES ->
You cannot buy ANYTHING at spawn or an adminshop. If you want something, you have to get it yourself or find a player who will sell it to you. The economy is setup to be built and handled by the players themselves, you can make your own shops and there's a place at the spawn for players to advertize their own private shops or businesses.
PvP is off by default, but each player can toggle it on/off if they want to PvP on an island or make their own arenas
It started a week ago today, a few people have started playing, but it would be nice to get a small community. If you want to play proper skyblock in a fair, equal, friendly environment, come check it out =)

What’s this fruit?
I bought this fruit in an international supermarket (in the UK). I was sure it called it a guava but having done some googling I can’t find any guava that looks like this.
It was a greener colour but is getting whitemore pale yellow. The picture shows it in sunlight so it looks a lot more yellow than it is. Google image search comes up with a few pictures of these fruits but all on random Facebook posts without names.
Thanks for any help! I can’t believe I actually forgot what I bought! (And any tips on how to use it would be appreciated)
