2024.05.21 21:06 CampingWorld What Are The Best RV Trips for Beginners?
There’s a lot to learn when you’re new to RVing. After purchasing your RV and equipping it with the right gear, the last thing you want is to feel overwhelmed trying to select where to camp. So we asked the question: what are the best RV trips for beginners?
Of course, we have our own opinions, but we wanted to see what the RV community felt. We asked experienced RVers which destinations or campgrounds they would recommend for beginners. With over 150 replies, here are the top five answers:
- Somewhere close to home
- State parks
- Good Sam Campgrounds
- Your backyard
- National parks
(Runner-up: Wal-Mart parking lot).
Why Stay Close to Home on Your First RV Trip as a Beginner?
The overwhelming majority of experienced RVers recommended sticking to somewhere close to home as a beginner. Their reasons were practical:
- You know where to go (home or familiar stores) if you forget supplies.
- You’re not far from your community if you need help.
- If something breaks down, towing your RV back to your house won't take long or cost too much.
- You do less driving and more time getting familiar with your RV.
- You won’t hurt your wallet on gas expenses if you overpack (which most first-timers do!)
Boondocking in your backyard is a great way to
learn about your RV and its systems. Just remember: Depending on your RV, you’ll need potable water, a way to empty your holding tanks, and a proper power supply –
30 or 50 amps.
Which Locations Make For The Best RV Trips for Beginners?
We collected specific recommendations for those who want to venture out while staying close to home. These came directly from experienced RVers nationwide who were willing to share their favorite destinations for RV newbies.
Because we don’t know where home is for you, we organized this list of the best RV trips for beginners and organized them by region.

2024.05.21 20:26 APackOfH0b0s Which predator inverter to get
So im getting a 2024 Forest River RV Cherokee Grey Wolf 29NM later this week and I'm trying to wrap my head around what generator to get. I'd originally planned to just grab the 9500w and call it a day but after scanning through here I'm second guessing myself. I believe the biggest power drains are gonna be the 15000 btu ac and possibly the 2 fridges, oh and the hook up is for a 50 amp plug if that even matters. But my question is, would I be better off 5000 or even the 3500? Or even 2 of the smaller units in parallel would be fine.

The metal Olympics are taking place in the wild world of commodities, with gold, silver and copper-based bronze all scoring a place on the podium. New highs continue to be notched in the latest games, though there is skepticism about the results and the possibilities of a rigged performance. However, for those betting on which medal might be awarded next, there is plenty to consider for all the competitors:
Gold: The yellow metal just hit levels of over $2,450 per ounce despite a strong American economy and U.S. dollar. Analysts have pointed to a coming Fed pivot on interest rates, as well as geopolitical tensions that have increased demand for the safe haven. Not only are investors getting involved, but there has been a large amount of buying from central banks, while the retail crowd is even getting in on the action with gold bars from Costco (COST).
Silver: The metal has outperformed gold in recent weeks, bringing its total gain to 32% YTD, compared to gold's 18% return. It also benefits from all the safe haven attributes of its shiny cousin, such as a popular hedge against inflation, along with some distinctive practical qualities of its own. Silver is used for industrial purposes, like solar panel cells, and is relatively cheap in ounces when compared to pricey gold.
Copper: The latest rip has made numerous headlines after hitting all-time highs on exchanges across the globe. Fear of supply shortages and trade disputes has helped generate buzz around the industrial bellwether, which is also key for the green transition and rising electrification needs. Copper is used in EVs, wind turbines, power transmission and AI data centers, meaning there are actual supply and demand fundamentals to assess when evaluating the worth of the red metal.
Too shiny? The commodity competition can experience chaotic events, with scandals and manipulation hitting items like nickel and cocoa in recent years. There is speculation that this might be going on this time around, triggered by leveraged contract buying, short squeeze momentum, or price premiums on different exchanges. Others see a lot of metal potential that has even resulted in some real-world M&A action, such as BHP's (BHP) $39B proposed takeover of Anglo American (OTCQX:AAUKF), which would create the world's top copper producer.
Wall Street leadership Succession plans are "well on the way" at JPMorgan (JPM), with Jamie Dimon saying it's up to the board to determine how much longer he'll remain CEO. "I think when I can't put the jersey on and give it my full effort, I should leave," he announced at the bank's Investor Day, adding that the timetable "is not five years anymore." Dimon also outlined that the lender will not repurchase a lot of stock at current prices, noting that such a buyback - at a valuation of 2.3 times tangible book value - would be "a mistake." JPM shares slipped 4.5% following the comments on Tuesday, but are up more than 40% over the past year. (60 comments)
Pulling a 180? Cryptocurrencies are back in rally mode as traders increasingly bet on the approval of the first spot ether ETF. While the industry previously did not expect the SEC to give the green light, the regulator has reportedly requested that ETF issuers update 19b-4 filings on an accelerated basis. The development signals some progress, but it doesn't mean it's a done deal. Ether (ETH-USD) is still up big on the news, soaring 20% to $3,708. The SEC's decision on VanEck's spot ether ETF application is expected on Thursday, and one from ARK Invest is due on Friday. (1 comment)
Bear capitulation One of Wall Street's prominent bears has finally turned positive on his outlook for the stock market as indexes continue to hit record highs. Mike Wilson, equity strategist at Morgan Stanley, now calls for the S&P 500 (SP500) to rise to 5,400, higher than his previous year-end target of 4,500, which was one of the lowest on Wall Street. The forecast is derived from a 19x P/E multiple on 12-month forward EPS based on June 2026 of $283. "This earnings path is based on our economists' growth forecasts, output from our earnings models, and our view that AI diffusion will boost margins starting in 2025," Wilson declared. (48 comments)

I have a website and Facebook page that generates traffic in outdoor recreation. How can I go about getting rv dealers to pay for sales leads and what is the best way to capture them. Also I really don't want to start an llc but I am also worried about protecting my home and assets. Any advice?

2024.05.20 15:53 BeerninjaXIII Freedom Elite 21C Roof
Hello all, first a little background.
I am a brand spanking new RV owner; we just got a 2011 Thor Freedom Elite 21C. We got it just south of Ft Worth and drove it home to New Orleans. Got it set up in a storage place since my home doesn't have the room to store it.
We went out today to do some cleaning and put some things away etc. So, we started the generator so we can have some AC cause well southern Louisiana is pretty warm. Anyways everything was going just fine my wife was cleaning and I was putting on bug screens outside. When I went it, my wife told me there was something dripping from the ceiling. So, we investigated and found out that the drips were coming from the AC, it seems like the drip pan is full and clogged so it is now dripping into the coach.
So, I immediately went to YouTube to figure out how to fix this, and sure enough my worst fear was realized, in order to fix this, I will have to get up on the roof.
Now to why I am here, I weigh approx 265, can I get on the roof to fix this without crushing the roof? Or do I need to have someone do it for me?
Thank you in advance for any info you can send my way.

2024.05.19 18:52 mrsprdave Efficiency of RV absorption (propane) fridge, versus 12V fridge using propane generator/battery.
I'll try to make the question clear as this isn't the usual 12V fridge questions.
Basically I'm trying to compare the potential propane consumption when using an absorption fridge on propane, versus using a 12V fridge and charging the batteries with a small propane (inverter) generator.
For this, I'm trying to find numbers on how much propane is consumed per BTU of cooling in the absorption fridge (not the BTU in a litre of propane burned, but how much heat is transferred out of the fridge).
The second part is numbers on how much kWh is consumed per BTU on a 12V fridge,
and then how much propane is consumed per kWh generated.
I know it's not a straight comparison as 12V are generally bigger, and 12V is more effective at keeping cold, and not as sensitive to leveling.
And that the 12V could be done with solar, which would be ideal... but this question is assuming solar not available.
But I'm wondering if there are numbers or thoughts along this line?
(just saying how much is consumed in a day is limited help since there is variance like temperature, unless it has been tested in the same conditions)

| Nonetheless, still thiiiiccccc afff. Jkjk, not horribly done— this one was a good representation of a normal Sunday night at home with the fam— but, on a Friday (posting late). PS- the wife is going to murder me when she sees this, because she’s gonna think I have a drinking problem, walking around calling her a 7 all the time. also horrible humor. She’s a fn dime, seriously…too good for me. But, and speaking of above..and since this IS the steak sub: •The steak came out okay, reverse-seared thicky baby. This was a go-to day at Costco when I know the specific guy I can get to cut some super nice, thick 4-packs. Like I said, typical cook and similar looking to most Sundays here at the casa. Did this one yesterday, couple of days early. Idk if any of you have seen any of my Comments, or interacted/engaged before..big community. Either way…I’ve mentioned before— we run “Strip Club Sunday” at the house, as a running joke. Wife and I had a good run with it, until generation TikTok (and overfed more openly mature content)…my 12 year old daughter, right before or at entering middle school this past (almost past) school year- she got wisened up to it 🤦🏻♂️ 😩 We just call it Steak Sunday, now..but this little shit, from time-to-time…will bust out “strip club SUNDAAYYYY!” …it drives me fn bonkers, but I can’t help but laugh. 2024.05.18 20:22 Initial-Mango4349 Onan v. Predator generator - RV
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Hoping someone can shed some light on this subject for me. We have a 30' travel trailer (first time) and are buying our first generator. We do not need one for the house, our city has really good power and no issues with climate; so dual purpose is not necessary. This is really just to power our air conditioner at night in the trailer, rarely a microwave (which we can just turn off the AC) or anything else.
I recently purchased an Onan P4500i Cummins on sale for $1200 (usually $1500) from a local dealer. Got the thing home, setup and the battery was dead (manual said it came fully charged), no big deal I'll just run it for a couple hours to charge; wrong, it was dead dead. Worst part was the thing was really loud, but it's advertised as Super Quiet 54db. I could run this thing out front of my house and hear it from the very back of the house really clearly, hardly quiet with no load. It's possible it's just an all around bad unit but from the reviews on Reddit I don't think so; they seem to just be reliable, but loud.
I started looking at a Honda 2200, since I have an in law that has that same one and it's worked great for their AC in their trailer. I looked up a conversion online and it looks like it is very under-spec'd for an AC unit though, it should be at least a 3500 to reliably run an AC; albeit I have never had issues with their 2200 overloading, I'm just going by the book.
Recently a brother of mine recommended Predator as it's nearly identical to Honda at a lower price. My father in law has a Predator 2200 (same experience as the Honda to run their AC, no overload) and it is as dead silent as the Honda. So I started looking at Harbor Freight for the 3500 and 5000.
I'm looking at the Predator 3500 for the price point, quietness, and the fact that it should reliably run the AC at night. However, it doesn't come with remote start/stop and that would be really nice, I know that runs a couple hundred dollars and for almost the same price I could get the 5000 (runs at around 3900, 5000 is peak) which comes with remote start/stop already on it, and can do dual fuel.
A few questions:
- Should I get the Predator 5000 (from Harbor Freight locally) since it seems to be the best deal with remote start and can reliably run my AC per the conversion, or should I be looking at something else?
- Is the Onan P4500i Cummins loud for anyone else or did I just get a dud and should be looking at getting another one (4500 is peak, runs around 3900)?
- Should I just get the Predator 3500 and add remote start instead of the 5000?
- If I were to get the Predator 5000, why does anyone use propane rather than just use gas?
Edit: I returned the Onan already.

2024.05.18 14:39 TrainingOk499 Automatic Charging 3000 Pro
so I’ve had a 3000 pro integrated into my RV since last summer, with 800 W in solar panels, feeding it. For the most part, I generate far more power than I need, which is good, as the generator is usually full by the time the evening comes around and will certainly last until the next day, and in which case it starts to charge again.
However, I noticed that it does not automatically charge in the morning, unless I unplugged the solar and plug it back in. I am told that this is normal as the generator turns off Smart charging when it’s no longer detecting an input, and needs to be essentially reset before it starts to charge again.
Question, is there a way of doing this through the app so I don’t have to be present to manually unplug and plug the solar back in?

2024.05.18 09:43 Jurassic-Halo-459 End of an era
As everyone here knows, as of May 15th, 2024, Rooster Teeth shut down after 21 years of service. I actually visited the site a couple of times during that day and was at first surprised it was still up and I was able to watch some more videos. Alas it was around 11PM or so that the shutdown finally happened; the app did nothing when I tried to log in and visiting their site another way led to the Goodbye Page we now all see. It is truly the end of an era... that was honestly on life support for a long time now. Let's face it, a LOT of web studios - Machinima, Screwattack, Revision3, Blip - have all come & gone in the span of a few short years (I hadn't even heard of many of them until recently), and it's amazing that Rooster Teeth lasted for as long as it did. It's sad that they're all gone, but whatever mistakes they all made that led to their ends, let's hope the next generation of web entrepreneurs learn from them and do things right, because there's no reason why such studios should keep vanishing in a handful of years while old-school enterprises like Disney & Warner Bros. are able to celebrate literally a century of success.
Also, I bought & watched Red vs. Blue: Restoration shortly before the shutdown and, while I did have some issues with some of the story decisions the staff made, I overall found it to be a welcome farewell for both the RvB franchise and Rooster Teeth as a whole. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a full-circle ending. Whether it's hits like Red vs. Blue, RWBY (which I now regret not getting into beforehand), and Camp Camp, or one-hit wonders like P.A.N.I.C.S., Nomad of Nowhere, and Death Race, Rooster Teeth created some of the best web TV out there, and they will be sorely missed. Long live the cockbites!

2024.05.18 07:38 fox_racin Engine identification help
I need help identifying what kind of engine that generac used in this generator. It looks to me like a Briggs and Stratton vanguard but I can’t find anything that specifically states that. I have a lot of parts for a vanguard engine and would love to turn this into a normal one. I just want to know what engine came on this. I’m buying it of marketplace so that’s why I haven’t torn it apart

2024.05.18 06:06 Beerddviking626 Renovated a Gulf Storm Expandovan for an office - best purchase of my life.
| For the last few months, I have been restoring a 1987 military, expanding shelter, and I wanted to post the progress. It’s not 100% completed - I still have some touch up paint, the exterior looks roughly the same and I have some miscellaneous parts to remanufacture but the interior is now mostly completed and ready to use as an office. The first two photos are my current progress, the third photo is the starting point, and the fourth photo is the exterior. To redo the interior, I used 13 cans of metal Bondo to patch the hundreds of holes, applied marine epoxy to the floors, replaced the fluorescent lights with LED smart lights and overhauled the electrical to be backward compatible (and safe) with 50 Amp residential GeneratoRV hookups. It’s been a great project so far but I’m very pleased. I do still need to install interior windows behind the blackout flaps so I can let some light in during the day and manufacture a detachable plumbing panel for the sink and future exterior shower, but overall it’s made good progress. submitted by Beerddviking626 to Military [link] [comments] |
2024.05.18 05:54 CreditCaper1 The Saturday Costco drop is broken
Prior to a few months ago, Costco batches would drop at 9 AM on Saturdays. The store would actually open at 9:30, but you would start to see batches around 9. A few weeks ago the time of the Costco drop was moved to 9:30. It made sense to coincide with the time that the store actually opened.
What I've noticed since the changed happened is that I never see any high-dollar value batches at the drop anymore on Saturdays. Furthermore, Costco will sometimes show up on the map as red or orange BEFORE the batches being to drop. This is something I have never seen for any store on IC and never happened when the drop was at 9 AM.
It seems at though the IC algorithm is still generating batches at 9 AM, however we just can't see those batches. Since no one can select any batches, the store becomes red on the map. Furthermore, I believe the high paying batches you can sometimes see at a drop are being broken up because no one is selecting them. By the time of 9:30 when we can actually see batches, it seems that the high paying batches are all broken up.
Has anyone noticed this? Something is definitely going on because I've never seen a store become red prior to shoppers being able to see batches.

2024.05.18 05:19 lakorai 2024 Camping Gear Memorial Day Deals Megathread (USA)
As promised, The 2024 Memorial Day Camping Gear deal thread is here to help our fellow readers some money for this upcoming holiday break. I have requested the mods keep this post a sticky until June 2, which is when most retailers end their Memorial Day sales. Keep in mind that not all US retailers will ship internationally and any savings you get can be wiped out from import duty, tariffs and taxes from your home country.
Keep in mind inflation has caused many items to have 10-30% price increases as warned by 's post from 2021. Prices will continue to go up as inflation gets out of control, so this could be a better time to buy camping gear than waiting till later in the year.
New for 2024 I am streamlining the deals thread so we can add additional retailers and cut down on clutter. I will list the retailer, example deals and if the retailer participates in cashback sites. Return policy, company background, credit card offers, free shipping etc will no longer be listed as that can be looked up on the retailer's website. This will make the threads appear on less posts and hopefully will flow a bit better. Thanks to several of you who offered this suggestion. I am also adding direct vendor sales as sales start (Marmot, Outdoor Research, Sierra Designs, Outdoor Vitals etc).
This thread focuses on retailers and e-commerce sites in the United States who sell multiple brands, are reputable businesses (ie not scam sites) and they ship and sell to anywhere in the US. I encourage you to check with the vendors directly and to use cashback sites like
Activejunky.com and
Topcashback.com to save as much money as possible in addition to these links.
Checkout
Cashbackholic.com and
cashbackmonitor.com to see what cashback sites are offering the highest cashback for whatever site you wish to shop at. Typically
activejunky.com is the highest paying cashback site, but sometimes
Maxrebates.com ,
topcashback.com and
rakuten.com can be higher.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this sales thread for last year. I hope to have helped save fellow Redditors as much money as possible to help get more people into camping and the Backcountry. If you find additional retailers of note or sales please comment below and I will update this thread.

2024.05.18 02:45 aIextkd Where are the M2 Pro Deals?
I’ve been eagerly awaiting a discount on the M2 Pros since the new generation just launched. Seems like most places (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc) are still selling them at launch prices. I’ve spotted a few deals such as Costco, but they sell out nearly immediately.
I’m sure it has something to do with the new generation seeing a price hike. Curious when you folks think M2 Pros will hit the refurb store.

2024.05.18 02:04 raytoei A review of my tracker stocks
Since late last year, i wrote about buying tracker stocks, which are stocks that i am interested but i not sure whether to commit meaningfully yet so more due diligence needs to be done.
Some of them have been upgraded to full holdings and are no longer tracker stocks, such as Nike and Hershey, which constitute 1% and 6% of my portfolio respectively.
Currently i have 12 tracker stocks constituting 1.98% of my portfolio.
The criteria which they are chosen:
Quality: - Consistency of earnings and revenue
- Above average ROE
- FCF generation > 5% of sales
Value: - they were within the IV calculation
- Many of them were featured in 52 week lows, such as Brown Foreman $BF, Humana $HUM, Zoetis $ZTS and previously NIKE $NKE and Hershey $HSY
Not all the tracker stocks met the above criteria, some like COSTCO i want to hold my breath and buy to see what the fuss is all about as the share price was clearly way above my IV and the FCF generation was < 5% of sales. Some like Coupang $CPNG had no consistency as it was new. Some like Workday $WDAY is still unprofitable.
(scroll to the right for the ticker name)
Gains start | Gains YTD | % of Port | Ticker |
-6.79% | -6.79% | 0.12% | BF.B |

-13.41% | -13.41% | 0.20% | LON:BRBY |
Some additional notes - My most disappointing pick was also the one which i broke my "rule", Burberry $BRBY. The rule was to never buy anything on the same day i discovered it. But i was so excited to find value in this stock and my hands are bleeding from this falling knife. The only silver lining i can see is that there is so much bad news in the stock that it only dropped 7+% during the disastrous earnings call last week.
- The most interesting stock for me from a learning perspective is Simpson Manufacturing $SSD, i really am curious to find out how this cyclical stock is going to behave, as the company published financial statements showed growth in the last ten years. Have they managed to diversify their cyclical nature of business or is the building starts still going strong (which it isnt this year). Among the list, $SSD has the most beautiful metrics and i am most interested to buy more.
I posted about these companies previously in the forum, (just search for it), if you want my datasheet, just PM me privately. thanks

2024.05.17 17:09 andykang Aipower 7100 or Predator 5000?
Picking up my first generator for emergency use. Costco has the Aipower 7100 for $999 and Harbor Freight will have the Predator 5000 for $799 tomorrow. After adding a warranty, I expect the Predator to be $999-$1,099.
Which one would you get?
