I explored an abandoned mill and discovered something terrible

2024.05.14 14:31 Eyeball_Paul98 I explored an abandoned mill and discovered something terrible

Sneaking into supposedly haunted building late at night always sounded like a laugh, but I don't think so anymore.

My town has this old mill. There used to be a lot of farmland around here, and the mill was practically the lifeblood of the town. You wouldn't know it to look at the place now. The soil surrounding us for a good couple of miles out is dry as bone with nothing growing out of it, and the mill looks like it's falling apart. Which apparently it has been since even before it closed down a few decades ago since a series of accidents is said to have been what finally pulled the plug on the old place—accidents where people died.

Which is where all the ghost stories come from, which in turn are what led to my late-night venture into a building that looked like it would fall on top of me any moment if I brushed the wrong bit of wall. It was dumb, and the one or two friends I'd told of my plan thought I was going to get myself killed. In hindsight, they were right. But then, hindsight is 20/20, right?

The door was easy enough to force. I had the torch function on my mobile phone switched on, and I saw that the wooden door was barely there anymore. Once it was open, I was hit by a cloud of dust so thick that I nearly choked on it. I couldn't believe I was the first one to try exploring the mill since it closed down, but that's what the air was telling me as I stepped inside.

Most of it was wood just like the outside. Decades-old wooden pillars held up the ceiling, above which had to be more machinery like what I saw in this downstairs room. I won't pretend to know what any of it does, but it was rusted with age and far past its ability to perform its function. It looked heavy, though, and I immediately feared the prospect of the ceiling crashing down upon me. But, I reasoned, if it were going to do that, this place would have collapsed years ago, wouldn't it?

The thought calmed me slightly but not much. After all, it would have to fall eventually.

I was about to climb the stairs, satisfied that nothing was left to see on the ground floor, when the whisper reached me.

"Help."

I spun around, startled, to see absolutely nobody. The room was still as empty as it had been when I broke the door open. My heart raced in my chest from the start the voice had given me. "Is that someone mucking about?" I asked.

There was no answer.

I took some slow, deep breaths to calm myself down. Just my mind playing tricks on me, I thought. This place being spooky is the whole reason you came here.

Satisfied that I was alone and that the voice had been nothing more than an illusion produced by my own mind's reaction to the darkness around me, I continued on up the stairs. Each one creaked as I planted a foot upon it, and I had visions of the flimsy wood breaking beneath my weight. At least I wouldn't have far to fall.

I was right about there being more machinery on the floor above, although I still couldn't tell you what any of it was for. Well, I knew logically that it was for the process of making grain, but you know what I mean. I pointed the torch at it and saw that it was just as rusty as what was downstairs. I sighed. Nothing here but rust and dust. Not that I was expecting to find any ghosts or anything, but I was hoping for something marginally more interesting than old machinery and drifting flakes of crumbling wood.

One of the shadows to my left moved, and I bloody near toppled onto my ass, yelling.

My heart hammered away its rhythm at a quickened pace, and I pointed my light toward the area of the movement. Nothing. Just more old wood.

I was alone, but I was certain that something had moved in here.

"First your ears, now your eyes," I said to myself shakily, trying to make a joke of it. "This dark's making you lose your marbles. You're the only one here."

Only ... I found that I didn't believe that anymore.

I can't tell you what it was, but I just had an overwhelming feeling that I was no longer alone. I felt like a deer in a clearing who's just begun to suspect a tiger is watching me from the bushes. I could feel my legs tensing, preparing myself to run for the stairs.

I stood there for what felt like an hour but was in actuality only a couple of minutes. I breathed to calm myself down again and decided that I really wasn't in the right headspace for this. I was too nervous. Too ... scared. Prey instincts I didn't even know I had were kicking in, and that couldn't be healthy. I decided to leave.

I walked down the stairs, each step toward the front door coming as a relief.

Then I saw it.

A door. A door I knew hadn't been there when I'd entered the building. I remember sweeping my torch all over the room, and at no point had I seen that door in its light.

"Down here. Help."

It was the same voice as before, whispering in my ear so closely that I should have felt their breath on my lobe. But I felt nothing of the sort. A chill ran up my spine. Fuck this, I thought, and turned to charge at the exit.

It was gone.

Where once there was the front door, which I had broken open to gain entry in the first place, there was now only more wooden wall.

I could bring myself to do nothing but stand and stare for a few minutes. It wasn't possible. The door was there, I knew it was! How could it be gone? What was happening? A scream of primal fear ripped its way out of my throat, and I charged at the wooden wall. The wood was flimsy-looking and rotted and should have broken easily, but with every punch I succeeded only in making my fists ache, and with every kick all I made was noise. Noise which reached nobody but myself.

Tears of terror and frustration ran down my cheeks in rivers, and I bit my hand to keep from loudly sobbing. I was trapped.

My legs buckled beneath me as the truth of my situation finally became clear, and I sat on the dusty wooden floors, my back against the infuriatingly sturdy wooden wall, and I held my head in my hand. What do I do?

I must have sat there for hours.

The sun didn't rise. No light peaked in through the gaps between the wood planks.

"Help," the voice came again. This time it was no whisper, but a call from beyond the new door. "Down here. Help."

Well ... what else could I do but listen?

I stood up on shaky legs, bracing myself against the wall until I was sure I could stand unaided. Then I made my way over to the new door and gently pushed it open. It made a long, high-pitched creaking noise as it opened to reveal a second staircase—one that led down.

I didn't want to go down. I wanted to leave, but I couldn't. My only other option was to sit and wait for something to happen, and I thought that might drive me mad.

I went down the stairs.

Unlike the ones upstairs, these steps didn't creak as I stepped on them. In fact, my footfalls made no sound at all, which if anything was even more unsettling.

Yet that was not the most terrifying part. The part that scared me most, the part that got my heart racing so badly that I thought it'd beat its way right out of my chest, was the way the stairs just didn't end.

I must have been walking down them for a good ten minutes before the thought occurred to me. My first instinct was to run around and run back up, but somehow I knew that if I did that, I would be running up forever just as I'd be walking down forever. Maybe I was wrong, but I don't think I was.

"Keep going," the voice said, whispering from right by my ear once again. "Come down."

I could see it now, whatever was speaking to me. Only not really. I didn't see what it looked like, but I saw it there, out of the corner of my eye, walking right next to me on the stairs somehow without ever touching me. Just a dark shape that only superficially resembled a human body—and too many eyes to count, all of them glowing a dull yellow, each one blinking periodically. Its entire body covered in them.

I sped up my descent down the stairs. I knew I wouldn't find an end, but I had to get away from whatever it was that was with me. That deeply-buried prey instinct rose in me again, this time to the point of damn near screaming at me to run, run away because the predator was here.

But I couldn't get away.

No matter how much I picked up speed, it was always there, right by me.

"Yes, yes!" it cried in pleasure. There was a sort of slurping sound. "Just like that! Such delicious terror!"

I screamed.

It laughed.

And suddenly, I understood.

It was eating me, not in body but in soul. With every second of fear, I could feel myself growing weaker. I felt thinner, less substantial. At some point, I knew, I would stop existing.

I was scared, and that only fed it more of me.

But then I realised something else: there were no walls around the staircase. Just a great expanse of darkness beyond the splintered wooden bannisters on either side.

I had a way out.

I stopped running down the stairs, turned, and gripped the bannister. Without so much as thinking about the height, I launched myself over the edge.

There was a roar of pure rage loud enough to still be ringing in my eardrums now.

Then a blinding light.

It was the sun.

I sat up, and I was outside the mill again. The warmth of the sun felt glorious, and I've never been happier to find myself lying in the grass where all the bugs could crawl all over me.

I think I know why the land around our town died.

I'm moving soon. I've told everyone else they should do the same, but they aren't listening to me. I hope they come to their senses before it's too late.

Because whatever is living in the mill is hungry.

How long will it take to leave its habitat and feast properly?

I can already hear that voice again.

2024.05.14 13:56 snappyroo05 Did strep A or antibiotics ruin my vagina?

Long 2 months, desperate for answers! Very detailed!
I’m so desperate for help, advice, answers, experiences (anything!) from someone/anyone who may have experienced or is going through the same as me!
In March 2024, I had a horrible sore throat so naturally I went to get tested for strep, Covid, and the flu. My rapid test came back negative for all 3 and the next day I was completely back to feeling great. 3 days later I get a call that my strep culture came back positive but I wasn’t prescribed any antibiotics because I was symptom free.
Early April 2024 I very suddenly came down with a high fever and body aches (with no warning signs or any other cold symptoms). Got tested again, everything was negative and I was fine within 24 hours.
**1 week later on the tail end of my period I developed horrible vaginal pain and sensitivity to the point I couldn’t sit down. My vulva was so irritated that it became raw and was bleeding light pink externally. I went to a woman’s clinic where they swabbed me. took a urine culture, and prescribed me bactrim while we waited for the test results. The test came back positive for strep 2 days later and a very high count of white blood cells (the untreated strep from march travelled through my system south!!! Didn’t even know this was possible). That same day I ended up in the hospital for a fainting spell, confusion, and nausea. After more testing the doctor found that the antibiotic wasn’t treating the infection so he prescribed Keflex 4X/day for 7 days. By day 2 I was feeling so much better (vaginal pain and all other irritations were fully resolved!)
5/1/2024 (5 days after finishing the keflex) I woke up with a severe sore/swollen throat and tested positive for Strep throat AGAIN. Here goes round 2 of antibiotics, now prescribed cefdinir 2x/day for 10 days. 2 days in once again, feeling great and took the 10 days finally felt better than I had in 2 months. I finished the cefdinir this past Friday (it’s now Monday) ….
I got my period yesterday (Sunday) and it was extremely heavy, much heavier than usual. Accompanied by severe cramps. Today mid morning I developed the same exact vaginal symptoms I had before testing positive for vaginal strep A!! The same rawness, tender, swollen feeling all external. Just a pad touching the area is excruciating pain and I can’t even fathom using a tampon.
What could this be? Strep again?! pH imbalance from the 2 rounds of antibiotics?! The blood from my period being such a high pH?! As I’m writing this all out I’m wondering if my period last month is what trigged the symptoms of the vaginal strep.. the month between my periods my vagina was completely healthy and feeling fine! HELP!
(Ive been tested for STDs which have all come back negative. I’m in a monogamous relationship (for 8 years). He was tested for strep orally and the results were negative)

2024.05.14 13:52 AdPsychological5065 HELP—Yeast Infection, Monistat Burns, or Herpes?

I am working on getting into a doctor as soon as I can, but of course—still seeking advice until I get in!
Had sex with a new partner on April 22nd. We used a condom, but he did go down on me. At that time, he shared that he was clean (but people lie so never know).
I got sick on April 24th— sore throat, body aches, fever, swollen tonsils. On April 26th, strep, flu, covid tests all negative and given a steroid shot and antibiotics.
Finished antibiotics on May 5th. Swollen tonsils became main issue again on May 6th and went to urgent care. Strep and mono tests negative. Got a different steroid and antibiotic.
Woke up early in the morning on May 7th unable to swallow and a hard time breathing so I went to the ER. Was given IV steroids, antibiotics, and pain meds. Sent home with another antibiotic prescription and started them that day.
On May 10th, started the yeast infection symptoms. I got Monistat 1 day (will never do again lol) on May 11th. Used a pad on the 11th and 12th with the discharge with it. On May 12th, I noticed the open sores on my labias.
I don’t have as much discharge anymore from the yeast infection standpoint, but I don’t know how to get the sores healed. I’ve been trying to keep it clean, dry, and aired out (wearing a dress to work with no underwear).
At first I thought it was a reaction to the Monistat, then maybe from the yeast infection, and now terrified its herpes from going down rabbit holes.
Any advice on relieving symptoms until I get in to the doctor?
I have a link to a NSFW photo of the sores too but want to make sure I don’t violate the community rules with posting it.
THANK YOU 🙏

2024.05.14 13:47 Majestic_Incident_27 Nancy: Femme Fatale (just a weird fantasy)

Nancy: Femme Fatale (just a weird fantasy)
Chapter 1: Transformation and Introduction
The air was heavy with the scent of antiseptic and the low hum of machinery. Stark, clinical light illuminated a room filled with gleaming metal tables, computer screens, and vials of strange liquids. A man lay restrained on a cold, steel slab, his face contorted in anger and fear. This was John—a man who had spent his life indulging in his vices, a man who believed women were nothing more than objects.
The door to the lab slid open with a soft hiss, and Dr. Lee entered, her expression a mask of professional detachment. She moved with the precision of a surgeon, her gloved hands preparing a series of syringes filled with a luminescent blue serum. John's eyes widened as he strained against his restraints, but the leather straps held firm.
"Relax, John," Dr. Lee's voice was calm, almost soothing. "This will all be over soon."
She injected the first syringe into his arm, and a chill spread through John's veins. His breathing quickened, and sweat beaded on his forehead. He tried to shout, but the gag in his mouth muffled his cries.
The serum worked quickly. John's body convulsed, and his skin began to glow with an unnatural light. His muscles twitched uncontrollably, and his bones seemed to shift beneath his skin. He could feel every nerve ending on fire, a sensation that was both excruciating and strangely euphoric.
His belly was the first to change. It rippled and flattened, losing its masculine hardness. The skin grew softer, more pliant, and a slight curve began to form. He felt a strange pulling sensation as his hips widened, the bones cracking and reshaping to create a more feminine silhouette. His thighs thickened, gaining a soft, enticing curve that complemented his new hips.
The real agony began in his chest. John's eyes bulged as a searing pain shot through his nipples, spreading outward. His pectoral muscles softened, the skin stretching painfully as small mounds began to form. The growth was relentless. His chest expanded, the mounds swelling into full breasts that grew heavier with each passing moment. The skin stretched tight, veins becoming visible under the surface as the mammary glands expanded.
John's screams, muffled by the gag, filled the lab. The pain was unbearable, a constant, throbbing ache that intensified as his breasts grew larger and fuller. They jutted out obscenely, the skin taut and shiny, nipples hard and sensitive. The growth finally slowed, leaving him with a pair of ample, perfectly shaped breasts that heaved with every labored breath.
The change in his chest was more than just painful; it was overwhelming. He could feel the mammary glands swelling, the ducts expanding, pushing the limits of his skin. The sensation of fullness and weight was alien, each movement causing a slight jiggle that sent shockwaves of sensitivity through his body. His nipples, now prominent and tender, brushed against the fabric of the gown they had draped over him, sending electric shivers down his spine.
His buttocks followed suit, the muscles softening and expanding into firm, round globes that pushed against the restraints. His spine arched involuntarily, accentuating the new curve of his back. The changes continued down his legs, reshaping his calves and ankles into slender, elegant forms.
Finally, his face began to transform. His jawline softened, cheekbones became more pronounced, and his lips plumped into a seductive pout. His Adam's apple receded, and his hair grew longer, cascading in waves around his shoulders.
John's body was now entirely female, a vision of impossible beauty and allure. The restraints were released, and he collapsed onto the table, his new breasts heaving with the effort of breathing. The pain had subsided, replaced by a strange, alien sensation of softness and sensitivity.
Dr. Lee stepped back, admiring her work. "Welcome to your new life, Nancy," she said softly.
Nancy—no longer John—slowly pushed herself up, her movements hesitant and unsteady. She looked down at her new body, eyes wide with a mixture of horror and fascination. Her hands explored the new curves, the softness of her belly, the swell of her hips, the weight of her breasts.
A mirror was brought to her, and she stared at the reflection of a stunningly beautiful woman. Her new form was breathtaking, every inch of her designed to be the epitome of seduction and allure. But behind those wide, dark eyes was the mind of a man—a man who now had to navigate the world in a body he objectified

2024.05.14 12:28 Kinnporscheislife 26F Non pathologically enlarged cervical nodes and an oval shaped one measuring 9.5mm

It's been 3 months ever since I had an episode of my whole body aching especially my back pain which got really worse to the point I couldnt sleep from the pain and even sweated and had a mild fever 37.4 celcius that night. The whole body/bone pain has been going on for a few days prior to developing that fever for one day but I felt like I was going down with something. My neck has been bothering me for a while I dont cough but it felt sore inside/weird. I did a cbc everything normal, crp, esr normal, ANA normal, ca-125 normal, LDH normal, igA, Igg, Igm normal, ultrasound showed reactive nodes with a more prominent one in the right side of my neck which is palplatable and measured 9.5mm and was described as a hypoechoic oval shape (lymph node?) In the report. Chest x ray clear. A hematologist felt my nodes on my neck and then my groin ones which are pea sized but dismissed them. For the past months Ive been having muscle spasms and discomfort on my legs, and hands which comes and goes like the burning feeling in the inside of my throat. I also get pressure in the sides of my head and there are swollen occipital nodes that cause me discomfort too. It feels like my muscles are really tense. Also I have really weak muscles/tendons/hip flexors? In the side of my buttocks especially the left one which becomes more intense when I open that leg or rotate it inside. I also get some burning sensations spreading from my chest to stomach and sometimes I feel cold. I also get random pain on my jaw and under cheekbones. Most discomfort was noticed during the night or laying down. I still experience back/hip pain from time to time. Also my left ear is sensitive when I hear something loud or touch it it makes something like echo ear drum? Also been seen by an ENT doctor who said I was clear. Should I look into this further or could this be due to a virus after 3 months? Possibility for Sjogrens(mildly drymouth, also vagina with frequent candida infections, dry eyes and have always had problems with cavities, dry nose) or TMJ? 6months ago I also had a neck and brain MRI which showed back left bone spurs in A4-A6 level that could be pressuring the A6 root. I've also worried about lymphoma because I got some mild night sweats that could be connected to anxiety and nightmares, were not drenching and after xanax use they havent appeared for a few weeks. What has been constantly bothering me though is the lower back pain muscle spasms and that weird stiff feeling on the sides of my hips and that tendon/nerve/muscle stretching/spasm deep inside left buttock.

2024.05.14 11:12 Gam1ngChair Body aches & other symptoms that only show up a few hours after waking up

22M, taking 40mg Vyvanse as of about a month ago.
Going back to Sunday, upon waking up I was stuck in a “Hypnopompic” state and was unable to properly wake myself up. I was meant to go out for breakfast for Mothers day and I missed it. I woke up for a few minutes at a time as I remember checking my phone, but I physically could not stay awake until about 1:30pm. I had retail work at 2:30, and I felt drowsy and achey the whole time.
Yesterday I woke up feeling fine after sleeping for probably 9-10 hours, but at about 3:30pm during work I started having the same aches and complete lack of energy. By the end of my 4 hour shift I had to literally sit on the floor for a couple minutes, which does not happen normally.
Today I once again woke up feeling refreshed and perfectly fine, but did not have work. I write this at 7pm, and am currently feeling the aches and tiredness again. It probably started getting worse at about 5pm. I’m also getting mild headaches. I have no other fever-like symptoms, no head cold, just headaches, full-body aching and drowsiness/lack of energy.
What’s going on? What can make you feel fine for a few hours upon wakeup but gradually get worse over the course of a day? I’ve experienced the sleep hypnopompia state before of being unable to wake up for a few hours but not with anything like this afterwards. Thanks in advance.

2024.05.14 10:55 Plantreads I can’t decide if I want surgery…

I’ve been diagnosed in about 2017. So it’s been quite some time. I’ve had 4 relapses already, recent one about 2 months ago. My levels are stable again on Carbimazole 5mg.
last year I was supposed to have TT but I chickened out (even the 1 in 50,000 chances of complications is still high to me)
but I’m just so tired now. I’m getting older (28) and i don’t think I’m fertile at this point. There were a few chances in my current relationship where I could’ve gotten pregnant (accidentally) and didn’t. At first I was happy but then got more sad.
Now, I’m not actively trying but seeing if it’s even possible. Almost a WHOLE YEAR of UNPROTECTED SX and nothing. That’s insane.
I recently went to my doctors and they didn’t tell me much. My endocrinologist(his coworker As he’s on holiday) talked to me about it. How GD can cause infertility. How even if I got pregnant, I would have to tell them Right away because of the Carbimazole I’m taking right now. And the passing of antibodies To the child. Oh I’ve read so much, it can cause miscarriage, birth defects, even thyroid storm. I even read Propranolol can affect fertility and I’ve been on it for years cause my heart palpitations never stop!!
apparently surgery can help eyes too? They got worse again. And the heat! Oh how I can’t stand being SWEATY all the time. Even when I’m cold !! I went outaide the other day after about an hour after a shower and that messed up my body heat so much I was sick with almost a fever for the whole night and had to take double paracetamol and propranolol to being the heat and heart rate down.
I’m scared of the TT damaging my vocal cords, or the parathyroid glands or just anything going wrong. But it seems there is more negatives than positives in Staying. im not even counting the constant aches and pains and ZERO energy and honesty my brain is dead.
The pregnancy thing is the one thing thats making me more decided but I’m still not sure. I wasn’t even planning on having kids but when I feel that ‘choice’ was taken from me, I’m becoming more and more upset and realise it’s something that I actually want.
i don’t know what to do now.

What’s wrong with my neck help please
Hello, last Dezember I had an necessary surgery and got abused, they layed me down in a hospital bed with 2 pillows and lifted the part were my head was laying while I still was unconscious, also there was gas that had to escape my body and was pushing against my shoulder musculature. One of those is why I have forward head posture(never had these problems)be it that my unconscious adopted the position, I have lymph nodes everywhere and my neck muscles are cramped up or infected. Also my face changed, I can’t concentrate very well, I have nerve issues(damage), get head aches more often than I used too, have hearing and tmj problems, I don’t feel good. Nothing I do seems to loosen the musculature, for 5 months I’ve tried Physio Therapy, stretches etc, orthopedic therapy, accupuncture, last week going to sauna. The only thing where I kinda noticed change is when I took the muscle relaxants, I got fever and my neck started aching and I got really bad cough. I still have neck aches, it’s been 2 Weeks since I took them. The musculature however also did not let loose. Is there an infection happening? My doctor gave me cervical syndrom as diagnosis but what could he really do to help other then muscle relaxants? I heard people inject Botox in the sc‘ms to relax them but I won’t do that and I don’t see any other option rn

2024.05.14 09:26 eyebawlze Could I be getting sick from an overflowed toilet?

2 or 3 days ago my toilet in my apartment overflowed. It had been running all day but flushing fine, until I came back into my bathroom later to find that my toilet had overflowed a ton of water. It was enough for it to go outside of my bathroom and get on a portion of my carpet, probably covering about 2 feet of carpet. I’m an idiot and didn’t think anything about the fact that the toilet water was definitely disgusting, there was nothing inside of the toilet bowl when it overflowed so the issue with bacteria didn’t even cross my mind. I used probably 10 towels to scrub my carpet and soak up the water in the bathroom floor, while wearing no gloves or sanitizing the floor. I then left the towels in my bathroom for the last 2-3 days and tried my best to soak up the water in the carpet but now my carpet smells AWFUL. I washed all of the towels today and I even tried shampooing my carpet, but I can still smell something bad. Late last night I went to bed with a scratchy throat, and throughout today I have felt more and more awful. My entire body feels like someone beat me up, like fever chills before a cold but x10. I don’t have a fever and my throat isn’t swollen, just extremely scratchy to the point where it’s annoying to swallow. When talking a lot I’ve noticed I am getting a little winded as well. I am a bad hypochondriac and have read about every transmittable disease a human can possibly get from dirty toilet water and I am freaking myself out. I have removed the towels and mopped the bathroom floor, and I shampooed the carpet for 20 minutes and I plan to do it again tomorrow, but is it safe to continue sleeping in my room? Could I be getting sick from the carpet molding or the toilet water from the floor and how dangerous could it be?? I am afraid of getting increasingly more sick. If anyone has any knowledge about this please let me know.

2024.05.14 09:25 eyebawlze Could I be getting sick from a flooded toilet?

2024.05.14 08:04 InsidiousDormouse Soprobec 200 possible systemic side effects, long-ish

I'm a 38 y/o female.
I was diagnosed with asthma as a kid.
Current meds Soprobec 200 two puffs AM, two puffs PM, ventolin as needed.
I moved into this flat in 2022, was fine before I moved and to begin with, then I developed worsening asthma symptoms as the months went on. I spent ages trying to fathom out the possible cause. I found no sign of mold or anything like that. then found out tobacco smoke from the man downstairs was coming into mine, it's been so bad on a couple of occasions my bathroom has 'fogged up' with smoke. I have tried everything, including having the council works department out to see if we could seal up any gaps etc, nope, no way of stopping it. He seems to vanish for long periods of time, leaving his flat empty. During these periods, my asthma symptoms vanish completely.
In response to my worsening asthma symptoms, in Jan 2024 the asthma nurses at my surgery decided to increase my ICS dose of Beclomethasone from 400mg a day to 800mg a day. Now I have high functioning Autism on top of all this, I am far from dumb or stupid, but anything to do with numbers seems to go over my head a lot of the time, even though I am better at maths now, amounts of things can still flummox me.
NOBODY told me this was considered a moderate to high dose and I should be carrying a steroid warning card, nobody, not once. I wrongly guessed it was only a few mg more than the soprobec 100 I was on. The Soprobec 100 was two puffs am, two puffs pm.
Now, since I have been on the Soprobec 200 at 800mg a day, I have developed some extreme and very disruptive possible side effects.
All possible other causes of these symptoms just got ruled out in a complete bloodwork which included diabetes, hypercalcemia, thyroid and iron deficiency, which are all possible causes of the things I have listed below, all tests have come back requiring no further action.
These are:
EXTREME, unquenchable thirst. I am drinking easily over four liters of water per day. I am also waking up several times a night for a drink, and if I go out I must carry water with me otherwise the thirst is VERY distressing. I feel dehydrated on a 'cellular level', like it doesn't matter how much I drink, I feel thirsty WHILE drinking water!.
Fatigue so bad I can hardly get up out of my chair most days and I am asleep by 9pm, where before I would like to chill with my dog watching a film or something till about 12pm. I have gone from waking literal miles through local fields and woodland with my dog, to barely being able to take her on the local park which is only across the road. I hardly ever go out, and if I do, I suffer immensely as my muscles start aching. I live upstairs and I am struggling getting up the stairs.
It feels as if I have lost all muscle tone all over my body. I no longer feel safe walking my dog as she is med size mastiff cross who is quite strong, she has almost pulled me over at times and I cannot even lift my kitchen bin bag or the laundry basket, I have NEVER had this problem before.
I have lost my appetite and have to force myself to eat every meal, often taking hours rather than minutes.
Episodes of vaginal thrush, something I have NOT had for YEARS, started when I went on this high dose of ICS.
My once 'perfect' periods are now very heavy and irregular.
I feel more angry than before. I had to seriously check my anger levels in my adult years, and developed a much more patient and stoical outlook to life, which brought my stress levels down massively. Since I went on this inhaler I have been snapping at people again, including my own family :(
Tingling hands. This can come on anytime, never had it before the inhaler.
A terrible hoarse voice and it feels like my voice is getting deeper and I am starting to sound 'male' other people have noticed this too.
Profuse sweating on my hands and feet. My hands DRIP with sweat, to the point I hide them from people. Never happened before this inhaler.
Salt and red meat cravings. I am not a big fan of either, and due to heart problems in the family I keep my salt intake low. Other day I just felt compelled to walk into the local coop and buy pork loins and a pack of beef biltong, things I haven't eaten in many moons. I recall saying to myself 'this is SO out of character for you'.
Episodes of nausea, two episodes of vomiting in the morning over two months (not preggers before anyone asks lol) which were not related to anything I had eaten.
Dizzy spells and almost fainting, usually happens if I push myself to do even basic stuff like household chores, which I usually enjoy doing.
I know these are listed as 'rare' side effects, but unusual thirst, tiredness and weakness is mentioned both in the patient info leaflet with the inhaler, and in various other information regarding side effects, such as this article: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/corticosteroid-inhalation-route/side-effects/drg-20070533?p=1
I take the inhaler via a spacer, my technique is good, I've been doing this whole asthma game all my life, so I am pretty ofay with it all now lol.
I have had a battle over this inhaler with my GP and other asthma services as well. They just do NOT believe ICS can have systemic side effects, in contradiction to what the drug manufacturers say on the leaflet. I think I am going to have to go back to the GP and stand up for myself, which is not something I am good at at all, and present them with this information leaflet, which actually tells you to consult your doctor if you develop any of them!.
Would it be worth asking to try the same dose, as I do not want to risk withdrawal, I have experienced this before from ICS, but on a different steroid with a different inhaler?.
Is there any more bloodwork I could ask for, perhaps adrenal function or cortisol levels?.
I am at a loss, I need to control my asthma, but I also need to be able to live!.
Thank you for taking time to read this, I hope everyone is well and your asthma leaves you alone to enjoy the summer!. :)

2024.05.14 04:29 luckytots First illness ~ healthier options

My child has gotten sick at 12 months old. We almost made it to one year with no illness. She has a runny nose a slight fever (being treated with Tylenol) and possibly an ear ache. Anyone know some better alternatives that I can be giving her? I’m keeping her hydrated and around a humidifier. I’m a first time mom and just want to keep my daughter healthy.🩷

2024.05.14 04:19 snooze_sensei Developing allergy to my best friends pets... what to do

So this friend of mine for many years has multiple pets. About 10 years ago I took care of them for a while when I was jobless. However since then she has slacked off on house-cleaning, and increased the number of pets. She currently has 5 cats and a dog.
She doesn't have many friends so if she has to go out of town on a weekend, she will ask if I will pet-sit.
Unfortunately for the last several years, and worse since I had Covid, I've had allergic reactions every time I pet-sit at her house. Originally I felt it was just changing the litter so I told her I could pet-sit but wouldn't clean litter boxes.
I would get flu-like symptoms every time I stayed at her place overnight. Often congestion, but also headache, fever, etc. A couple of times last year it was so bad I was convinced I had caught Covid again, though I tested negative.
So this past weekend she had to leave town suddenly due to a death in her family, and I agreed to pet-sit Friday & Saturday night. No litterboxes to be cleaned, she has automated litterboxes now, that can go for longer between cleanings...
So ... Saturday morning, I wake up with a pounding headache.... It seemed to get slightly better so I went about my day, but it was nagging me the whole day. I had to leave for a few hours as well. I had noticed my heartrate was up higher than normal, but just noted that to the side. I wasn't having any congestion so hadn't realized it was the allergies again. Thought I lucked out.
By late evening I had to cancel my plans, I had a fever, much higher than normal heartrate, etc. My plans involved a lot of activity and the extra activity pushed my heartrate out of a safe range and I was starting to get lightheaded and feel faint, so I immediately cancelled the plans and went to a family member's house for a few hours. Heartrate went down but was still elevated. I do take a single medication, which lowers my blood pressure and heartrate normally, so having it up is something I watch closely. I connected it to the allergies at this point.
I was feeling a little better, but still lousy, and went back to my friend's house for the second night of pet-sitting. Ended up having chills when I went outside even though the temps were only in the upper 60s. Slept terribly, and basically had no energy all day Sunday. Heartrate was down but still higher than my normal base heart rate. Ended up sleeping most of Sunday. Managed the drive home. Back at my own place, I slept great and felt perfectly normal this morning.
The reaction this time was so strong, that I'm afraid I'm going to have to tell my friend I can't ever stay at her place again. I know part of the issue is she does not keep a clean house, so it smells strongly of her pets. That's never going to change.
Would it be worth trying an allergy medication? I know most of the allergy meds on the market are basically placebos. At this point though it has moved beyond simply congestion to something that actually is a health risk.
Opinions?

2024.05.14 03:38 dmb313 Diarrhea anyone?

Started on 5/9 with a low grade fever, cough, body aches, congestion. The fever went away on 5/11 and then started the diarrhea. I got tested today and positive for A.
Anybody else have diarrhea as a symptom? I haven’t had influenza in forever but I don’t remember this being a symptom.
When does it end?!

2024.05.14 03:20 Synah6435 My back/flank pain experience.

A few weeks ago I came back from a trip from Japan.
When I got home, 2 days later I got EXTREME lower back pain/ flank pain, and I immediately got flu like symptoms. Body chills, cough, fever, no appetite.
Naturally I thought I had some sort of kidney or UTI infection. Got antibiotics, felt better but the flank pain remained. I thought it was some bacteria left over from my illness so I took a bunch of home remedies.
The pain remained. Yesterday it got SO bad I went to urgent care and told them I got an infection again or something. They tested my urine. Clean.
Might be a kidney stone they said. Go to the ER!
So I went, waited 2 hours to be seen and another 4 for the urine, blood and cat scan to come back.
ALL CLEAN!
They said it might be spinal.
I got a physical therapist as a friend so I ask them. They put one finger in my back and IMMEDIATELY 10/10 pain.
They check me out a bit closer and it turns out my QL muscles are TIGHT TIGHT!!!!
Gave me some exercises to do at home and heat pack.
I’ve had back pain but my god nothing like this.
At least I finally got an answer.

2024.05.14 03:15 snappyroo05 Long 2 months, desperate for answers!

2024.05.14 02:50 starfinder23 surgery story (as a teen)

I'm 10 days post op now and healing super well so I wanted to share my story, bc I know getting surgery can be super scary and it definitely helped me to hear from people who's surgeries went well :)
For reference I'm 14 f
It started with what I assumed to just be a random stomach ache (I've had minor tummy troubles for my whole life so it's not usually a concern), but it got worse over the span of a couple days and also developed into back pain. Around 4 days into the pain we decided to go to urgent care, and the Dr said I had pretty much a "textbool case" of gallstones. We scheduled an ultrasound for 2 days later.
I never ended up going to that ultrasound bc the day after urgent care, I couldn't sleep because the pain was so bad. So we went to the ER, hoping they could at least prescribe some pain meds (ibuprofen wasn't doing much good).
After hours of waiting, they finally got me in for an ultrasound at the ER. They looked at my pancreas, kidney, liver, and of course gallbladder. A few more hours later and we finally get to talk to a doctor (and get some meds) the doctor confirmed that I definitely had gallstones (we later found out the were 2 cm and there were at least 4.)
Eventually we spoke to the surgeon, who basically said that the pain wasn't going to improve so it made sense to just take it out now. He explained that I had a very borderline case. I definitely had gallstones that were clearly causing pain, but I hadn't experienced and nausea/vomiting/fever. However, I had a slighty raised white blood cell count so he still advised to get it removed asap.
I'll spare the details, but because I'm not an adult they had to transfer me to the children's hospital in order to do an operation and we ended up not being able to do it until th next day, because it wasn't technically an "emergency." The nurses were mostly good, although they wouldn't give me any pain meds stronger than Tylenol/ibuprofen until post op (so I was in mild pain for the entire night)
The next day, I got prepped for surgery and me and my mom spoke to the anesthesiologist and surgeon. Both explained exactly what was going to happen, which made me feel a lot better.
They gave me anxiety meds, so ngl I don't remember much after they wheeled me into the or.
It definitely hurts for a few days post op. Mostly the action of sitting and standing up. I had to learn to use my arms and legs in place of the core muscles, but I was able to walk to the bathroom a couple hours post op.
10 days later, I'm back to normal activities with no pain and my incisions are healing super well. Very glad I got the removal over with, and my surgeon didn't give me any dietary restrictions.
I know this was super long, but hopefully someone found it helpful :) good luck to anyone getting surgery soon 💚

2024.05.14 02:36 Big_Use_4272 5 months of pain

Quick recap- For 3 years if I’d smoke or drink I’d be short of breath the next day for about 3 hours. In December my stomach started throbbing and twisting (would last about 1 minute) and I just kept ignoring it. In January, I went for a walk and got really short of breath and disoriented and went home to go to bed, had fever and chills, woke up fine. Went for another walk and worse symptoms arose, tingling in hands, heart racing, felt like I was going to pass out. Since that I’ve been short of breath so bad to the point I can’t walk very far or work, heart/stomach/groin palpitations, twitching all over, chest pain, feels like stomach is stretched, I burp a lot. Some acid reflux but not much and is worse after I eat. I have constant pressure in sternum and SOB. Sometimes I get a weird feeling in throat, which leads to my head instantly and makes me dizzy for a second. Switching positions in bed, bending over causes sternum pressure. I cannot lift anything heavy, it’ll take my breath away. The first couple months was really bad. I’d start falling asleep and my body wouldn’t inhale again, I’d wake up gasping for air
Went to ER a bunch and every specialist and they all say I’m fine. NO DAMAGE TO LUNGS, HEART IS FINE
I’ve done an endoscopy and today just got back barium swallow, all negative. Still convinced I have a HH. I have every symptom. Or I have some weird vaping disease but doubt it because of no opacities in lungs and even a beer or cigarette would make me SOB

2024.05.14 01:58 Ancient_Campaign_287 Vent FTM: I was not prepared for the physical toll of PP

I just need to vent here and make it known if anyone else is going through this- you are not alone! ✌️❤️ So, I was extremely lucky and had a very easy pregnancy. Limited symptoms and I was able to maintain my workouts and strength training 3-4 p. Week. I naively thought that this would carryover to PP. (Side note: my LO is lovely, healthy and pretty chill and for this I’m extremely grateful). But the last 7 weeks have been the hardest physically and mentally and I was and am not prepared.
Since her birth I’ve: -Developed De Quervains (mommy thumb) on both wrists and am now having to wear a brace full-time. And it is. So. Painful. Also you use your wrists for everything with a baby!! -had regular PPA flare-ups -jaundiced baby in the beginning due to poor latch. Which didn’t help the PPA. I’m now using nipple shields- but it works so fine! And to top it off… -I am now sitting up at 1am wide awake for the last 3.5 hrs while my LO sleeps soundly. I have a fever, chills and sore breast. All things on the internet point to mastitis 😫
I know there is light at the end of this tunnel..just having a hard time seeing it atm!
