I have a condition called exotropic strabismus, so basically my eyes aren't straight. It's something I've had since I was a child. I'm very clear about it on my dating profile as it's pretty obvious. Yesterday after work I went for a coffee date (I always do this before a "proper" first date to take the pressure off) with a guy I matched with. I thought we had a great time, he was really nice, easy conversation, lots of laughs, but this morning he messaged me to say that although he thought I was pretty and nice, blah blah blah, he just can't get past "my wonky eye" and he doesn't see us going anywhere.
This is the third time this has happened in the past few months and I wanted to get it off my chest as I'm feeling a mix of self pity and anger. It's very clear from my pictures what I look like and I've always been upfront about it. But every time this happens they always say something along the lines of "I thought I could ignore it / overlook it" or whatever. It's so frustrating and disheartening. I get that he was being honest and upfront, and that's fine, I appreciate that, as it saves either of us wasting our time. But why match with me in the first place if it's going to bother you? Edit: Any advice on how to fix this situation? How to maybe reassure him I am here for him? Should I take the lead and set boundaries? Neither one of us have been in a healthy relationship but I have learned to deal with my issues where as he has not. I am prepared to be hurt but I'm not sure how I can help take him out if this cycle.
So I met this guy on a dating app, we met up, have been speaking for over a month now. We relate on alot of levels, both been in shit relationships, shit parental relationships, alot of trauma based things. But we also have the same style, like the same things, music, have dark sense of humour, but he keeps telling me because he's jumped from relationship to relationship he now doesn't know what he wants and doesn't want to hurt me. Hes been working alot lately and currently cant leave the house much due to financial issues from the past. We are meeting up some time soon to talk. Am I just being delusional? It's all been perfect up until I accidentally triggered him about an insecurity he had but its still a fresh relationship. He's admitted he's scared to get hurt and wants summer to himself as he's been in relationships back to back. I also have but I don't want to lose him. He says he still wants to see me hes just not sure about a relationship right now but in time. Do I give him the summer? To add to this, he has mental health issues and has had a hard upbringing but I relate to him in alot of ways and my family and friends love him and say he is good for me. He hasn't implemented boundaries and I think I may have come on too strong. I don't even know, help! 😭

I am planning a trip out to the UK, and while I know I will have a general outline of a plan of where-ish I am going to be at what time during the trip, but I usually figure things out once I am there and have a vibe.
I have my round-trip flights booked, and I know the general dates I will be in the 3 countries I will be visiting, but I don't know at this moment now if I will want to leave somewhere or stay somewhere sooner or later, or if I will want to use a major city as a "home base" but then take an over night trip to a smaller area to explore and hike.
I have hostels booked in the general time periods when I expect to be in the 3 major cities, but if the time comes on the trip and I want to stay another night or leave and stay somewhere else for a night, will my hostel cancel my stay or anything? I know I will be out the $30-40 I spent booking that night, but that won't really bother me.

You are dead! Your life was taken by a reckless driver one night. One minute you were driving your car down the Freeway and then the next you woke up in an otherworldly space full of stars, and galaxies. As you awaken, you notice a woman in a black coat standing over you. Once she notices you regain consciousness she takes a step back to give you time to process what happened. The memory of your death came flooding back. Instead of just seeing what happened from your point of view, you had to see others' perspectives on the situation. Paramedics tried to revive you, to no avail. You could hear faint screams of regret from the one who caused this, then faintly feel your last few heartbeats then nothing.
The woman apologizes, as she knows it’s not easy to process this. She then begins to process to accompany him on his journey, he has the choice of being reincarnated or going straight to heaven. That judgment was cast upon him by her as she saw all his memories within an instant. He deserved a second chance if he wanted and she proposed to him, to send him to a world full of magic and monsters. An evil king ruled over the land, and essentially he was among the thousands sent to this world to Stop the king's terror. None have succeeded. But she had faith in you. But every time one or the other tries to confess feelings it falls flat. Will they finally be able to do it?
Isekai Inspired story! (Romance, Drama, Action, Adventure, SOL)
You are dead! Your life was taken by a reckless driver one night. One minute you were driving your car down the Freeway and then the next you woke up in an otherworldly space full of stars, and galaxies. As you awaken, you notice a woman in a black coat standing over you. Once she notices you regain consciousness she takes a step back to give you time to process what happened. The memory of your death came flooding back. Instead of just seeing what happened from your point of view, you had to see others' perspectives on the situation. Paramedics tried to revive you, to no avail. You could hear faint screams of regret from the one who caused this, then faintly feel your last few heartbeats then nothing.
The woman apologizes, as she knows it’s not easy to process this. She then begins to process to accompany him on his journey, he has the choice of being reincarnated or going straight to heaven. That judgment was cast upon him by her as she saw all his memories within an instant. He deserved a second chance if he wanted and she proposed to him, to send him to a world full of magic and monsters. Hey all, with the leaks seeming to be drying up and with actual spoiler season beginning next week, I figured now would be a good time to do a quick rundown of some of the cards I'm really excited about in MH3 so far. Note that this list does contain leaks, so turn back now if you're trying to stay leak-free.

- [[Ugin's Labyrinth]]: Honestly I just can't get past the excitement of being able to Turn 1 Chalice of the Void in this format again. I'm a huge fan of fast mana and miss Simian Spirit Guide and Mox Opal dearly, so I look forward to a ton of degenerate brews with this.
- [[Ajani, Nacatl Pariah]]: This scratches a major itch for me as both a fair Magic card and an unfair Magic card. It's an insanely powerful 2 drop in a vacuum even before you consider the synergies, and I think it will really help a lot of white-based decks to shine. On the more degenerate side of things, I'm itching to do the line of Turn 2 Ajani, Turn 3 Saheeli Rai, copy Ajani, make a second cat, flip the original Ajani due to it triggering from the legend rule of the clone, then 0 Ajani to make a third cat and Bolt something, leaving you with 2 walkers and 3 cats by Turn 3. If that line doesn't get Copycat back to some realm of playability, nothing will.
- [[Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student]]: This card feels great to me on a lot of levels. A 1 mana 0/3 flyer is a fantastic blocker, and being able to chain card advantage over it without having to worry about ground-based combat is really interesting. Flipping it is pretty trivial in the right deck (or just wait til you accrue a few clues and crack them), but its flip side is a little weaker than I'd like overall. Its plus isn't that exciting, but it does build towards an INSANELY powerful ultimate. A 1 drop that can net you several cards and then ultimately potentially win the game on its own is no joke, and it seems destined to be a big part of the format somewhere.
- [[Necrogoyf]]: I can't resist the urge of an 8 Goyf brew even if it's a total pile. I love this little guy so much already.
- [[Ocelot Pride]]: This card just seems so good and unique in so many ways and I'm really looking forward to getting to the bottom of it. Everyone's been talking about how good it is on its own, but it's absolutely absurd in multiples. Alongside Ajani, these two cards make white creature-based decks feel appealing for the first time in what feels like years.
- [[Flare of Denial]]: I think this card is insane and instantly a top 5 counterspell in the format, maybe even better. I think any blue deck that runs more than a few creatures is going to spend a good deal of time planning how to make this work in the deck. And it is insanely hardcastable at only 1 mana more than Counterspell itself.
- [[Flare of Duplication]]: This card is harder to read and feels like it will fall on some extreme side of the spectrum like it'll either be insanely good and oppressive in the right deck or just not all that playable overall. There's a lot of implications here from countering counterspells to duplicating burn spells, to the use case of saccing a creature in response to a removal spell being used on it to copy the removal spell back at an opponent's creature, but time will tell where this really fits in the grand power level of things. I will say that any of the instant speed Flares do deserve a special look overall.
- [[Harbinger of the Seas]]: Absolutely awesome Magic card, and such a classicly simple case of what makes Modern Horizons sets great. Will love ruining days with it in Fish as well as trying to revive some Blue Moon shell with it. One way or another it represents a tremendous new way to punish nonbasic lands.
- [[Kappa Cannoneer]]: We've had one busted new Affinity card this year, but what about seconds? I think Kappa will finally be the piece to fill out the Affinity shells and make the deck consistently powerful again - Synthesizer gave the deck a great boost, but I think it always needed more than just 1 new powerful card, and Kappa seems to be the perfect fit. Frogmyr Enforcer should be a nice new upgrade as well, but I'm still a little iffy about that Red mana in the Frogmite side.
- [[Disruptor Flute]]: I've talked a lot about degenerate cards so far, but this is probably one of the best answers the format has known for a lot of cards. Having Flash on an effect like this is so insanely good, and I can see it being a go to answer for The One Ring, Karn the Great Creator (especially for Affinity), Yawgmoth, and a lot of others. I love the idea of them printing pushed hate cards in a MH set to keep things balanced, and I can see this going everywhere. I'll probably buy like 12 copies on Day 1 and have homes for all of them.
- [[Primal Prayers]]: I'm not quite sure what we're doing with this yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll involve [[Greenbelt Ravager]]. It's a powerful new combo engine and I'm sure I'll burn a ton of play points this summer trying to make it work.
- [[Buried Alive]] and [[Victimize]]: Putting these together as I think they represent just an insane new boost to graveyard decks. From bringing back Phoenixes to Vengevines to all types of strong interactions between the two cards (such as a cool two card combo of Buried Alive for a Narcomoeba, a Thassa's Oracle, and a Leveler, then Victimize the Narcomoeba to reanimate Oracle and Leveler and win on the spot). There's also that Black energy reanimation creature that I kinda forget what it does now, but I think it's actually pretty good too. Oh, plus the Recurring Nightmare Energy variant. Idk, one way or another we're eating really good in the Reanimator department post MH3.
- [[Brainsurge]]: I'm not sure if this will just end up another cool memey reference card like Brainstone, but netting 2 cards off a Brainstorm effect is crazy strong and is worth testing somewhere. Maybe a Cascade deck wants it, maybe not, but we'll see!
- [[Sink into Stupor]]: Just a really clever design for a modal land to have. Where this lines up compared to Otawara remains to be seen but I'm going to enjoy finding out!

It definitely has a pink tint though. I didn't think I would get pregnant this time around because I thought we missed my ovulation day. When I edited the length of my luteal phase, based on how my mood changes drastically... it appears I may have ovulated a day before had unprotected sex. (May 1st would be what I believe to be the date of conception) I am very regular except when I travel. If I was home I think I'd be certain I was pregnant but I need some second opinions here. I will not discuss any gameplay any movements/cast mechanic since it's probably the biggest topic when you compare the two games and have been discussed enough, so here's a list of Gameplay related mechanics that I think differ from the previous game.
Also, there are very heavy spoilers of this EA, so I recommend to read only if you have beaten the final boss at least 5 to 10 times
Boons:
1) Getting a high rarity boon is A LOT easier in Hades 2. The fountain keepsake, Hera boon that randomly gives you 2 heroic (quite strong on the surface since the there aren't many encounters if you ask me), the guaranteed upgrade when you have a God's Keepsake on and a general sense of higher chance when choosing a boon and more non-binded reroll make you have an average Epic rarity. I never was picky with the boon rarity, but this games makes you that. Also, some boons are also very rarity and level dependent (Ephaestus can be useless and broken depending on that) while others don't make much of a difference (Hera's magic Regen is broken in every shape or form).
2) With every new mechanic we have, it seems that the number of boons the game offers is heavy-RNG dependent. You can have like 20 boons in the second biom or arrive in the third with some core boon missing. You can manipulate it well, but I usually like to see what the game has to offer more than trying to go for a certain build.
3) Duals/Legendary: I still haven't tried every legendary boon yet, but they don't feel as powerful as in the first game. Zeus' 7% chance fo kill someone randomly is just meh, Demeter's is the same and I'm kinda sad about that. Ephaestus' can be tuned to a +2 for almost any weapon except some aspect of the staff or the blades. Duals are in the same league of Hades 1, some are really good, some have a niche use and some are useless.
Poms: While your boons are "stronger" I feel like it is harder to pome them. Idk if that's just fewer pomes offered, but they're more rare in the shop since there are a lot more things to buy now (armor, selene's hex, magic potions and so on) and when you're in the last biom and get offered the three pomes you often don't have a lot of rerolls or have too many boons in the pool.
Keepsakes: I feel like this game has stronger keepsake in like 80% of the cases. Every God keepsake is stronger since you can rarify a boon of your choosing and not have that 15% more rare chance. Artemis and Hermes' ones are quite fun and can have a some gimmicky use. Icarus' keepsake can be equipped in the third biom and gives u a random hammer that can make your build broken (heavy rng but when it happens it's fantastic). The fountain one almost gives you an heroic boon, Odisseus' one gives you 15/20% damage reduction against bosses
Weapons: First of all, I was stunned that we already have 5 different weapons to choose from. And I was also more astonished when I discovered there were 2 more aspects for each weapon other than Melinoe's one. So while I sincerely think this is ridiculous amount of content, I still think that the weapon is the point they need to work more in the next updates. Almost any weapon needs to be polished in some way, for example the Axe always needs to make a normal attack before the omega, and being that slow it often causes you to take damage. The torches are kinda wacky, you cannot choose the opponent to attack and they don't give much reward for the high risk damage output you can are exposed too. The skull also doesn't have a defined role rn, it feels like the cast from the first game, but when you used the cast you could have also used the attack, special, dash and call while now you only have that and Melinoe's cast. The staff and the blades are broken if you compare them with the others since there are more "high tier" builds that can work with them and have more interesting aspects. The aspects of the other 3 kinda feel the same but it's okay right now, as I said I was shocked we had so many weapons/aspect
Resources/Grinding: While there are some new mechanics in the game like harvesting, mining and clearing shadows, they don't really have a defined curve. You can have 10/15 runs where you can't upgrade anything and then upgrade 3 things, do some "magic" stuff in the big pot (idk the English name since I'm Italian) with only one run. Also, the spawn of materials to collect during runs is too low, specially for the resources locked behind later bioms. I did not find one obsidian rock to mine in 3 runs and getting rewarded with only 3 pieces is not enough. I do not want to rush or anything, but if I have to equip a determinated tool, I at least want the thing to happen when I arrive to that biom. Also, bosses' object don't have a use rn. I have over 30 Scylla's pearl and can't exchange them or at least I haven't found how to use them, so if you know something pls tell me.
Minor thing:
Armor: rn it feels okay at best, Arachne is quite skippable unless you have low health or no magic Regen. Ephaestus' boon that gives you 75 armor is the same.
NPC during runs: They have a bigger pool of objects/boon to offer and Idk if that's a bad thing or not since we have more of them. Icarus' +20 raw special damage can be absurd on some builds and I'm glad he doesn't offer it every time. Still, you often need some death defiance from Echo and she just says no...no...no... I also don't like how they treated Artemis: she was the base for every crit based buil and having her give only one boon per run (especially when they're the same of Hades 1) is almost useless.
Surface: I know they probably overturned it since it's only two bioms for now, but holy sh!t. The Cyclop and Eris are still easier than Chronos but you don't have a build as strong as the one you have when you go against him. Also, there are very heavy spoilers of this EA, so I recommend to read only if you have beaten the final boss at least 5 to 10 times
Boons:
1) Getting a high rarity boon is A LOT easier in Hades 2. The fountain keepsake, Hera boon that randomly gives you 2 heroic (quite strong on the surface since the there aren't many encounters if you ask me), the guaranteed upgrade when you have a God's Keepsake on and a general sense of higher chance when choosing a boon and more non-binded reroll make you have an average Epic rarity. I never was picky with the boon rarity, but this games makes you that. Also, some boons are also very rarity and level dependent (Ephaestus can be useless and broken depending on that) while others don't make much of a difference (Hera's magic Regen is broken in every shape or form).
2) With every new mechanic we have, it seems that the number of boons the game offers is heavy-RNG dependent. You can have like 20 boons in the second biom or arrive in the third with some core boon missing. You can manipulate it well, but I usually like to see what the game has to offer more than trying to go for a certain build.
3) Duals/Legendary: I still haven't tried every legendary boon yet, but they don't feel as powerful as in the first game. Zeus' 7% chance fo kill someone randomly is just meh, Demeter's is the same and I'm kinda sad about that. Ephaestus' can be tuned to a +2 for almost any weapon except some aspect of the staff or the blades. Duals are in the same league of Hades 1, some are really good, some have a niche use and some are useless.
Poms: While your boons are "stronger" I feel like it is harder to pome them. Idk if that's just fewer pomes offered, but they're more rare in the shop since there are a lot more things to buy now (armor, selene's hex, magic potions and so on) and when you're in the last biom and get offered the three pomes you often don't have a lot of rerolls or have too many boons in the pool.
Keepsakes: I feel like this game has stronger keepsake in like 80% of the cases. Every God keepsake is stronger since you can rarify a boon of your choosing and not have that 15% more rare chance. Artemis and Hermes' ones are quite fun and can have a some gimmicky use. Icarus' keepsake can be equipped in the third biom and gives u a random hammer that can make your build broken (heavy rng but when it happens it's fantastic). The fountain one almost gives you an heroic boon, Odisseus' one gives you 15/20% damage reduction against bosses
Weapons: First of all, I was stunned that we already have 5 different weapons to choose from. And I was also more astonished when I discovered there were 2 more aspects for each weapon other than Melinoe's one. So while I sincerely think this is ridiculous amount of content, I still think that the weapon is the point they need to work more in the next updates. Almost any weapon needs to be polished in some way, for example the Axe always needs to make a normal attack before the omega, and being that slow it often causes you to take damage. The torches are kinda wacky, you cannot choose the opponent to attack and they don't give much reward for the high risk damage output you can are exposed too. The skull also doesn't have a defined role rn, it feels like the cast from the first game, but when you used the cast you could have also used the attack, special, dash and call while now you only have that and Melinoe's cast. The staff and the blades are broken if you compare them with the others since there are more "high tier" builds that can work with them and have more interesting aspects. The aspects of the other 3 kinda feel the same but it's okay right now, as I said I was shocked we had so many weapons/aspect
Resources/Grinding: While there are some new mechanics in the game like harvesting, mining and clearing shadows, they don't really have a defined curve. You can have 10/15 runs where you can't upgrade anything and then upgrade 3 things, do some "magic" stuff in the big pot (idk the English name since I'm Italian) with only one run. Also, the spawn of materials to collect during runs is too low, specially for the resources locked behind later bioms. I did not find one obsidian rock to mine in 3 runs and getting rewarded with only 3 pieces is not enough. I do not want to rush or anything, but if I have to equip a determinated tool, I at least want the thing to happen when I arrive to that biom. Also, bosses' object don't have a use rn. I have over 30 Scylla's pearl and can't exchange them or at least I haven't found how to use them, so if you know something pls tell me.
Minor thing:
Armor: rn it feels okay at best, Arachne is quite skippable unless you have low health or no magic Regen. Ephaestus' boon that gives you 75 armor is the same.
NPC during runs: They have a bigger pool of objects/boon to offer and Idk if that's a bad thing or not since we have more of them. Icarus' +20 raw special damage can be absurd on some builds and I'm glad he doesn't offer it every time. Still, you often need some death defiance from Echo and she just says no...no...no... I also don't like how they treated Artemis: she was the base for every crit based buil and having her give only one boon per run (especially when they're the same of Hades 1) is almost useless.
Surface: I know they probably overturned it since it's only two bioms for now, but holy sh!t. The Cyclop and Eris are still easier than Chronos but you don't have a build as strong as the one you have when you go against him. This post, in its fullness, is about Ta Mando and the Shiftverse, a setting we'll talk about in a bit but before we get started I do wanna mention something kind of neat.
I've vaguely alluded to how I learned about jumpchains, mentioning that it was through a CYOA creator who also does jumps. Pre-pandemic I was a member of the Make Your Choice & NSFW CYOA communities, and I saw FancyFireDrake's Goddess of Mankind CYOA and I really liked it so I checked out some of their other stuff. At the time I was already paying attention to NSFW CYOAs because of TroyxPage, specifically Grand Adonis which to this day remains at least in my top three favorite CYOAs of all time, and when I saw that I really liked Goddess of Mankind I wanted to see what else FFD had done so I looked through their stuff and saw stuff on Jumpchains. This was happening around the same time I was joining the Shiftverse as a player.
Through the power of coincidence I was joining the Shiftverse, an original setting by a friend of mine named Philososhy, at about the same time I was learning about jumpchains and beginning to really discover the power of crossover fan fiction and stuff like that. Here's a little bit of canon Luciano Lore; as a child I began writing, which is part of what I do professionally and semi-professionally, by writing self insert crossover fan fiction though at the time I didn't know these things had terms. I was raised overseas, as I am an army brat, and I was homeschooled, and my family wanted me to get into reading and writing, and so they had me write stories. I don't think they anticipated the lifelong rollercoaster that that would send me on. Anyways, back to the central topic.
The very, very basic gist of the shiftverse from a player character perspective, is that player characters are... reality TV stars whose lives are shows airing on multiversal, cosmic televisions, and they are watched by monstrous, unknowable beings, while the player characters go from world to world, for various different amounts of time, and just LIVE among the inhabitants of the world, free to do as they please and to interact with locals however they wish. It is a pure coincidence that this VERY basic gist sounds so remarkably similar, conceptually at least, to Jumpchains, though as a very funny matter of fact in the SPECIFIC setting I have a character in, there are others with player characters and another one of us knew about jumpchains before I started sharing stuff about jumpchains in the Ta Mando (the SPECIFIC world my character lives in, which is just one of many settings which exist for the Shiftverse) server (which is public, I'll be posting a link to the world-anvil later).
All of the player character primes (the term used to apply to beings who get sent from world to world for the sake of the tv shows, which does not encompass ALL multiversal wanderers in this setting, and also NPC primes exist) I know of are humans from a mundane Earth, in fact many of us in Ta Mando (though almost certainly not all of us) are from the SAME Earth. Certainly all of the player character primes for Kanda, which is the central location, "location" being used real loosely, are from the same Earth and about the same time period.
Primes get superpowers of various sorts to help us survive and live exciting lives. We're also capable of using the powers native to the world's we visit, though learning and attaining such powers isn't always easy. My character is Jonathan Mondragon, who on Earth prior to them becoming a Prime, was a Puerto Rican doctor. I did insert SOME traits of myself in them, they are non-binary, they are bilingual, they are a charisma main, but my ORIGINAL idea for this character was for them to be a Caribbean Homelander (they have a few different powers, namely the powers of Superman (Smallville style, so the powers are steadily growing and new ones become accessible over time) & a set of social powers, which along with Omega Beams and some doctohealer stuff represent their STARTING kit, in the time since they've arrived they've become a champion of a deity of truth and honor, gained the very beginnings of a dragon's power set, and have attuned to the Ta Mando equivalent to The Force, so we love a chaotic ass power-grabber). That idea... did not last long. Jonathan has been in Ta Mando for a few months now, and is a solidly moral person due in large part to the fucking nightmare they had to endure in the beginning of their time here (they were deliberately summoned by the people of a colony of Kanda who were in a bad spot, and Jon has largely succeeded in solving SOME of the problems but it was ROUGH), and the growth they've endured as a result of both pain and the good things they've done since they arrived. Some other primes include characters with really strong magic stuff, someone who is a Saiyan, and a person who is the Avatar, as well as people more attuned to the Ta Mando version of the force and a Space Marine, so as you can see our power sets can VARY.
There are other vague similarities with Jumpchains, such as vague similarities between items in jumps and items in shifts, as a prime tends to get SOME basic items at the start of a chain (usually a facility which serves as a house, which can differ from prime to prime, and functions as a bit of a less protected/more accessible warehouse) but not ALL primes get that and SOME primes get WILDLY more advanced facilities than others. OTHER items can be included as well, as my character has stuff for medicine and farming, and I know of other primes who've got uranium mines, lightsabers, and even pets as part of their starting kit. There ARE difference, one of the biggest differences is that a shift's (the in-universe term for a stint in a world/setting) length is NOT a decade and can last however long the eldritch beings who run the show feel like, though from what I, Luciano, know it seems like most last about a human lifetime, though there are some that last WILDLY longer than that. Another significant difference, as has been explained and hinted at to my character, is that remembering the details of a shift once you leave is not guaranteed, nor is having and keeping the same powers you once had, and all of this is similar to the idea of drawbacks in a jumpchain but these changes, as far as I know, across shifts do not confer any advantages in exchange like a jumpchain drawback does.
Anyways, Ta Mando is my favorite TTRPG setting I've ever been in, there's a lot to discover, there's a lot more for me to do there, and I sometimes think about doing a Shiftverse jumpdoc. I think it'd be very funny to blend the two systems like how I've blended the Troyverse & Jumpchains, and how I plan to blend Akumakami64's Love Azathoth CYOA (have a little surprise announcement, as a treat, for making it this far, but do note that I'm in the middle of my busiest time of the year so this won't be for a minute), but truthfully I just don't know enough to really do it justice. Maybe someday I'll make a jumpdoc for The Shiftverse. it could be fun honestly.

I'm not gonna say much here, I'll just post two links. One is to the World Anvil for Ta Mando, one SPECIFIC setting in the Shiftverse (there are many worlds someone could get shifted too, Ta Mando is just one of them). The other is to my character's World Anvil page, Jonathan Mondragon. This is not SUPER up to date, but it's the beginning of a good set of articles for people in Soterri, as well as a way to learn more about my adventures. Also, this is a text-based TTRPG campaign and we play using GURPS. It's... weird. I'm very much a D&D person, I've been playing D&D over half of my life (literally, I'm 29, the first time I played D&D I was 13, and I had the books BEFORE then), so it's been an adjustment. I like it though, my character DOES feel powerful and has had plenty of kicks moments, but just LEARNING what I can do and the mechanics of everything was a trip.Anyways, Ta Mando is my favorite TTRPG setting I've ever been in, there's a lot to discover, there's a lot more for me to do there, and I sometimes think about doing a Shiftverse jumpdoc.  | Right, so I'm going to post this on my profile because I think it will get hated and downvoted to oblivion in the sub, and I don't feel like getting into arguments with people because it's literally just media analysis, but for anyone of my followers interested: there's a world of difference in the amount of influence different character from the family have in the actual overarching plot. Which is largely about sustaining the Family, and the House, as they have always been, as per tradition dictates (and as per JF wishes). He's the head of the family. If he dies, everything changes. There would be a transfer of power (which has slowly happened by the second movie, but would be a world-changer if it had actually happened at any point during the show) that would shift the balance of how the house operates. Robert's views also have a massive influence over what other characters are doing, so in the end he is a valuable player when it comes to preserving the house, and of course, the death duties and taxes will eventually become an issue again when he dies. Cora also has an important part to play, beyond her inheritance, although it's a sad one: if Cora died at any point, especially in the early seasons, it would have been expected of Robert to re-marry. If Robert remarried, he'd have probably married a much younger woman, and he'd have probably had more children. In which case, he could have had a son and changed the trajectory of the show entirely. Mary was always destined to be the one who would carry the torch, from the very first episode. She is her father's daughter, dutifully following in his footsteps when it comes to the sense of obligation to the community and to the house (Downton is her third parent and third child as well), and she is stepping in Violet's shoes in her devotion to the family as well (and mirrors Violet's temperament and cool composure as well). Finally, she's embracing the modern world fully. Which means she has the best of both worlds, the burden of duty, and the capacity to look forward and carry on. And Mary saved the house already several times. In season 3 by persuading Matthew to invest money and literally buy it for Robert, and of course in the form of George, who is securing the continuation of the line. And by assisting in the running of the estate from season 4 onwards (and taking it on entirely by the second movie). Downton cannot exist without Mary. Same goes for Matthew. Literally the heir. Like Mary, vital just because of George. But like Mary (and there's lots of parallels between them, this is one of the happy ones) he is the one who gets to drag Downton into the modern world, fight with Robert to get the estate sorted, invest A Whole Lot of money into it, and be smart enough (and devoted enough) to hand the reins both for the modernisation, and for the running of at least half of the estate, to Mary, who is also smart enough (and devoted enough) to continue with his plans and ideas that allowed the place to survive and make it to the 30s (at least). Downton would have collapsed without him. Sybil (along with Isobel) were a major factor in Downton becoming a convalescence home during the war. You might wonder well, how is that important. On the one hand, they got government funding to run it and more money has never been an issue. On the other hand, it helped with Matthew's recovery. Majorly, Sybil's contribution was her forward thinking, which changed a lot of Robert's and Mary's views (and we see how that helped) and of course, the fact that she brought Tom into the family. Who would of course go on to help Mary and Matthew implement the modernisation of the estate. Edith's biggest influence on the plot was the letter she wrote to the Turkish Embassy in season 1. It changed the trajectory of Mary's life, and by extension, the world of Downton. Because Mary didn't accept Matthew's proposal since she couldn't find the courage to tell him about the potential scandal, Matthew got engaged to Lavinia, Lavinia died, Matthew inherited the money from Swire, Mary persuaded him to invest in the house, Downton was saved. If Edith hadn't existed in season 1, the show would be massively different. But the fact is that beyond that, her life does not influence the overarching plot, and the house. She is of course a favourite of many fans and the show would NOT be the same without her, but the house itself, Downton, doesn't need her, and hasn't needed her since that letter. Edith could have gone to America in season 2, and other than her own storylines, nothing else would have had to change, the show could have continued on, as is, with almost 0 changes. Which is why JF's decision to move her to Brancaster made a whole lot of sense. Edith had no role in Downton since literally the start of WWI. Anyway. I thought the dynamics of the family were interesting. And it sort of all sets the tone for most of what goes on on screen, because based on the amount of influence each character has, the story shifts around them. And there's some obvious ones (like Robert and Mary) and some less obvious ones (like Tom), and it explains at least a few things, for example, why Edith was so obsessed with what Mary did and what went on in Mary's life early on the show - because she knew that that's where change happened. And once she outgrew that stage of trying to take the spotlight away from her sister she came to the obvious conclusion that she had to make a life for herself outside of Downton, and that's what saved her (although, I think she'd have been far better off living as a modern woman in London, at least for a while before she met Bertie, but that's just me). |
