Understanding Amazon FBA Sales Data

What Constitutes Amazon FBA Sales Data?

Amazon FBA sales data encompasses a plethora of metrics and statistics that shed light on various aspects of a seller's performance on the platform. These include:

The Importance of Analyzing Amazon FBA Sales Data

Analyzing Amazon FBA sales data isn't merely a suggested practice; it's a crucial component of a seller's success strategy. By delving into the nuances of this data, sellers gain invaluable insights that enable them to:

Analyzing Amazon FBA Sales Data: Best Practices

1. Utilize Amazon Seller Central Tools

Amazon offers a suite of tools within Seller Central designed to assist sellers in analyzing sales data effectively. These tools, including the Sales Dashboard and Business Reports, provide a comprehensive overview of sales performance, customer behavior, and inventory metrics.

3. Conduct Comparative Analysis

Compare current sales performance with historical data to identify patterns, fluctuations, and areas for improvement. Conduct A/B testing on pricing strategies, product listings, and advertising campaigns to gauge effectiveness and optimize performance.

4. Implement Keyword Optimization Strategies

Keywords play a pivotal role in driving product visibility and sales on Amazon. Leverage keyword research tools such as Google Keyword Planner or Helium 10 to identify high-traffic keywords relevant to your products. Incorporate these keywords strategically into product listings, titles, and descriptions to enhance search ranking and attract more customers.

5. Monitor Competitor Activity

Stay abreast of competitor activity by monitoring their pricing strategies, product offerings, and customer reviews. Extract valuable insights from competitor data to refine your own strategies and maintain a competitive edge.

Interpreting Amazon FBA Sales Data: Key Metrics to Consider

1. Sales Velocity

Sales velocity refers to the rate at which products are selling on Amazon. A high sales velocity indicates strong demand and market acceptance, while a low velocity may necessitate adjustments to pricing or marketing strategies.

2. Return on Investment (ROI)

ROI measures the profitability of your Amazon FBA endeavors by comparing the revenue generated against the expenses incurred, including product costs, fulfillment fees, and advertising expenditure.

3. Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)

CAC quantifies the amount spent on acquiring each new customer. By optimizing CAC and maximizing customer lifetime value, sellers can enhance profitability and sustain long-term growth.

2024.05.14 20:36 brinksy3 Horse fence shock and EKG read?

Im a 36F with no major health issues. This image is 4 home EKG I took within 10 minutes on my Kardia mobile unit. 10 days ago I was at a kids birthday party at a horse farm and they did not tell anyone the fences were all electric. I went to pet a horse and did not touch the fence, I had my hand through the fence and the horse touch my hand and must have touched its body to the fence, we both were then shocked. I felt it in my heart the most right then. I didn't lose consciousness or anything like that, but for the last 10 days I have had a LOT of sensations of fluttering, galloping, pounding heart, high resting heart rate (130s,, 140s) waking up to HR over 100, etc. I do take Adderall so I sometimes feel this anyway, but the last week I was on a very small dose of instant release pills cuz my regular XR pills were out of stock.
I told my Dr about it when asking about refilling my meds on Friday last week (6 days later) and they wanted me to go to the ER for an EKG, which I couldt/cant/dont want to do. I bought the Kardia unit on amazon and delivered Saturday morning so I've been using it the last few days. My dr office has been really persistent, emailing me several times and insisting I stop my Adderall entirely and come in for EKG tomorrow, which I will do. Im hesitant to make a big deal out of this, its not out of the norm for me to have these heart sensations I guess, and Im sure there are people with worse issues. I feel like I "cried wolf" so to speak in mentioning it to them, and now they want to do an EKG. I dont see much on these graphs but Im not a dr. They were within 10 minutes of me chilling in my office chair. I last took a 20mg XR adderall at 6am and these were at 130 or so, so its usually not working much anymore by that point, and Id be taking a 10 IR (but I saw the email from Dr saying to stop so I havent taken it). If necessary- I take 20 XR and 10IR adderall, 20mg Lexapro, singulair 10mg, spironolactone 150mg, and daily generic allergy pill. I have a nexplanon implant. When pregnant, I had elevated thyroid antibodies and took synthroid to prevent miscarriages, but otherwise no thyroid issues.
The graphs are showing Sinus tachy (normal given adderall but again, resting or sitting in my office chair as a therapist since 10am), unclassified, and Afib, all within 10 minutes. What the fuck is going on? Is this thing not valid?

2024.05.14 20:08 This-Freedom-35 Filipina Appreciation Post

Hi guys,
Happy to find this community. Although I don't really do the whole "internet community" thing. I find it weird. Nonetheless, I wanted to make a post here, partly to help others thinking of coming to the Philippines, and partly because I can't sleep.
I've been living here for the last 7 years. Here are some absolutely necessary things you must know or do if you plan to come to this country:
Many things will suck
Some things will be ok
And some things will be amazing
The thing that I want to talk to you about today is something from that last thing: things that are amazing. To put this into context, I am a young westerner. And out of all the amazing things here, the number one most amazing thing, by far and without a fraction of doubt, is the women.
The women here are not of the same caliber of what you are used to, back home, wherever you are. The women here are magical. They are like creatures of the amazon rainforest. They can brighten up even the shittiest of days with just a smile. They are the most caring, loving, nurturing types of humans I have ever met, and probably ever will meet.
I should mention that I've dated a lot of women. I mean, I've really dated a LOT of women. I'm not saying this to brag, but to demonstrate the sample size of data I've acquired through my own personal experience. Dozens and dozens of data points. No single western women even comes close - even scratches the surface - of what you will experience here. Just everything, from their personality, to their looks (they are literally half latina and half asian - need I say more?), to their temperament; everything about them is just oozing with sublimity. They are so amazing, that they are one of the sole reasons I have decided to stay here, for so long.
I must give a word of warning, to any westerner thinking about coming here - if you do, you will never see women the same ever again. The Filipina is what you will judge all other females by in the future, forever and always. They have spoiled the ever living shit out of me and I can no longer pretend that I'd ever be happy again with a western girl. It is a gift, but a curse, as well. You have been warned.
Oh yea - also, leave manila as soon as possible.

2024.05.14 19:38 Usual-Difference2109 Book about the Amazon Rainforest

Hello,
I’ve been searching for a specific book I got as a gift in the 2010’s. Can’t find it online at all and even tried asking Chatgpt and it eventually told me to come here to try to find the answer.
This book is a medium coffee table style book that’s a dark navy blue color, features a hornbill bird on the cover and the middle of the cover is transparent which shows the first page I believe. It describes the ecosystem of the rainforest from the ground up to the canopy of the trees. The middle of the book features a picture of a pyramid like structure in the forest and the following page is plastic with an illustration of what it might have looked like that overlays ontop of the picture. The book also features the Amazon river and a section about researchers who study life in the canopy with a picture of a scientist hanging from climbing gearope in the trees.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.14 18:24 wj46 Visiting Amazon Rainforest - from Brazil or Colombia

Amazon rainforest - From Brazil or Colombia?
Hey everyone, I am currently in Brazil and have a decision to make.
1: Get to Manaus, take an amazon tour from there, then onward to Colombia.
2: Fly to Leticia whilst in Colombia and visit the Amazon from there.
I have heard a few things about Manaus not being great, nor are the tours from there.
I would love to hear of anyones experience who has done either, with recommendations for tours to suit a backpackers budget.
Thanks!

2024.05.13 18:38 Gallowglass-13 Earth Lab: A Hypothetical Vision of a New Earth 15 Million Years From Now.

Scenario: An Earth-like planet inhabited with all living species found today and left to their own devices for fifteen million years. Note that harmful invasive species have been removed.
Continents, islands etc include:
Terra Europa.
The continent that houses Europe’s flora and fauna. Its wildlife includes the varied and strange descendants of the deer, wisent, feral cattle, sheep, goats, chamois, horses and wild boar, muntjac sized rabbit descendants, the descendants of the wolf, lynx, wildcat and bear alongside the new competitors in the form of mustelid and rat descendants. On the coasts, flightless descendants of gannets, guillemots and puffins occupy niches once occupied by the great auk while cetacean and pinniped descendants continue to roam the northern ocean.
Hy-Brasilian Isles.
A set of islands that act as proxies for the islands of Britain and Ireland along with their corresponding surrounding islands.
Terra Africanus.
The home to Africa’s wildlife. It still boasts a wide array of creatures descended from today’s animals, but some truly bizarre new forms have occurred such as predatory baboons, varied forms of hyaena that include a huge bear-like species and small to medium sized descendants of the hyrax with some truly bizarre forms. Hippos have become almost fully aquatic and often make forays into lagoons. Five species of elephant descendants occupy various niches with one living a semi aquatic lifestyle on the coast. The great herds are swelled with varied antelope, zebra, buffalo, pig, giraffe and rhino descendants and watched by the descendants of the native cat and dog species who compete with the rising descendants of civets, mongooses, meerkats and mustelids.
Neo-Arabian Peninsula.
A peninsula that houses the wildlife of the old Arabian Peninsula. Notable inhabitants include pack hunting descendants of the cheetah, carnivorous descendants of the hamadryas baboon and strange camel and antelope descendants.
Terra Asia.
The home to Asia’s wildlife. Probably the most varied continent in terms of habitat, from vast steppes and pine forests in the north to flood plains and rainforests in the south, this is reflected in the wildlife.
Terra Indus.
A subcontinent connected to Terra Indus that houses India’s wildlife. One descendant of the Asian elephant has become highly specialised to life in the water and now calls the warm estuarine mangroves near the coast home. They share it with a semi aquatic form of tiger and fully aquatic descendants of the gharial. The forests and grasslands host their own bounty with scavenging descendants of the langur and the mongoose plus giant cat and canine descendants that hunt bizarre antelope, deer and bovid descendants.
Terra Australis.
Home to the wildlife of Australia and Papua New Guinea. Its unique wildlife includes varied and often large descendants of wombats and bandicoots, deer-like and ground sloth-like descendants of kangaroos, wolf-to-big cat sized descendants of the quoll and Tasmanian devil, armoured echidnas, tree dwelling and rabbit like descendants of the wallabies, wallaroo and potoroo, giant emus, huge goannas, dingo descendants resembling bears, land-dwelling and massive descendants of crocodiles, monkey-like possums, panda-like koalas, bone-eating skinks and carnivorous descendants of the cassowary.
New Albion.
An archipelago that houses species from the Bismarck Archipelago such as New Britain and New Ireland along with more recent land formations. The wildlife reflects that found in old Papua, but is unique to the area. It includes a flightless descendant of the New Guinea harpy eagle and strange descendants of native marsupials and reptiles.
New Tasmania.
Kept separate from the mainland of Terra Australis, the far more temperate environment of New Tasmania hosts a unique set of animals adapted to the smaller landmass.
Terra America Septentrionalis.
The home of the wildlife native to North and Central America. The native wildlife has been joined by immigrants from Asia thanks to the new land bridge. The natives include diverse descendants of the mountain lion, wolf and bear species, numerous descendants of deer, bison and peccaries, giant alligators and of course, new larger mustelid predator competitors. This includes relatives of creatures living in Terra America Meridionalis.
Terra America Meridionalis.
The continent that houses the wildlife of South America. Its wildlife includes horse-like and elephant-like descendants of the tapir, larger descendants of the various giant rodent species, bear like sloths, giraffe like descendants of the guanaco, flightless descendants of the vampire bat, giant predatory birds much like those that existed in South America’s prehistory, hyena and fox like descendants of the South American possums, apex predators descending from the Amazon giant otter, varied types of armadillo and unique cat, fox, dog and bear descendants found nowhere else
Taino Archipelago.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of the Caribbean. Local wildlife include seal-like sloths, giant hutia descendants and a terrestrial descendant of the Cuban crocodile.
Terra Antarctica.
The continent that houses the wildlife of Antarctica. Its inhabitants include varied species of ground dwelling bats, giant descendants of albatrosses and penguins, marsupials and reptiles from the offshore islands of Australia and a leopard seal descendant that lives like a crocodile.
Sunda Peninsula.
A peninsula that houses wildlife from the regions of Malaysia and the Sunda Islands. The only exceptions to this rule have been the islands of the Philippines, Sulawesi, Komodo and Flores. Descendants of the Sumatran tiger prowl the jungle in packs while semi aquatic descendants of local rhino species and the dwarf elephants of Borneo bask in the river systems The descendants of the Komodo dragon have split; one remains largely on land while another has taken to the sea. In the New Philippines, the descendants of binturongs, civets, mongooses and leopard cats compete for food which include the descendants of native pigs, badgers, buffalo and deer.
Greater Zanzibar.
An island neighbouring Terra Africa. The land is largely grassland and hosts a set of animals related to those found in mainland Africa, but unique. These include a small species of elephant, flightless descendants of the secretary bird among others.
New Madagascar.
The new island home of Madagascar’s native wildlife. Notable creatures include new species of giant lemur, leopard-like giant fossa, wolf-like giant mongoose, giant birds, descendants of reintroduced pygmy hippos and giant tortoises, bandicoot-like tenrecs, larger descendants of the native giant rat, terrestrial crocodiles and rabbit-sized chameleons.
New Comoros Archipelago.
An archipelago neighbouring New Madagascar. The native lemur population has diversified with some even swimming between islands while dodging sharks, snakes and crocodiles.
Mauritius-Reunion Archipelago.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of Reunion and Mauritius. It hosts a unique set of birds found nowhere else alongside giant tortoises.
Greater Seychelles Archipelago.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of the Seychelles as well as the Maldives, Andaman and Sentinel Islands. The giant tortoises are the most notable inhabitants, but some are semi aquatic unlike their neighbours and capable of traversing the sea to some extent.
New Year’s Islands.
A small group of islands that houses the wildlife of Christmas Island. The native crabs have continued to diversify while bats and birds have begun to occupy previously empty niches.
Marruni.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and other surrounding islands, new and old. Fauna includes descendents of the kagu and other native birds, several descendents of the native skinks (the largest being as big as a border collie), strange new species of gecko and three species of terrestrial crocodile.
Havaiki.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of Aotearoa, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, the Cook Islands, the Society Islands and various new and old islands. Fauna includes ground-dwelling fox-sized bats, larger descendants of the tuatara, kiwi and kakapo (among others) and eagle-like descendants of the kea alongside various other oddities.
Macronesia.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of Palau to Neo-Hawaii. It provides a system of beaches for nesting seabirds and sea dwelling reptiles as well as a fractured land bridge. The native wildlife mostly comprises the descendants of castaways and flying species.
Neo-Galapagos.
An archipelago that houses the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands. The giant tortoises are now far larger, the marine iguanas are now fully aquatic alongside the penguins and some finches are now flightless.
Neo-Hawaii.
An island chain that houses the wildlife of Hawaii. Fauna includes giant ducks, tortoises and a flightless ant eating kiwi-sized descendants of one of the modern honeycreeper species.
Neo-Rapa Nui Archipelago.
A small island chain as remote as Rapa Nui. It boasts significant seabird colonies while forests have taken over much of the land.
Primavera.
A medium island in the Indus Ocean strewn with thick jungle growing out of hard rocky terrain. While mammals are rare, the island is bountiful with reptiles, amphibians and numerous arthropods that, thanks to the higher oxygen density, have grown to impressive sizes and make up a good chunk of the predatory niches on land, in the trees and even in the swampy waterways that carve their way through the lowlands.
New Zanzibar Strait.
A stretch of sea that separates Terra Africanus from New Zanzibar. Small islets create a mangrove environment that intermingles with tropical reefs, creating a unique fusion of oceanic, semi aquatic and terrestrial life.
Indus Ocean.
The Indus is one of the core centres of ocean biodiversity with numerous atolls and reefs. These locations are a hub for new forms of ocean life while islets provide nesting grounds for birds, sea turtles and sea crocodiles.
Tangaroa Ocean.
The largest ocean on Earth Lab. Among the atolls and reefs, vibrant new fish species dwell alongside new coral species, cephalopods like a pack hunting descendant of the Humboldt squid, a swimming sea slug descendant, various new sharks and rays, serpentine descendants of toothed whales that hunt smaller species alongside aquatic penguins, crocodiles and new species of turtle, big and small.
Proteus Ocean.
The Proteus boasts fewer islands, but still plays host to numerous forms of ocean life. Alongside the numerous schools of fish swim the new serpentine hunting whales, fully aquatic seals, huge manatee descendants, giant sharks and penguin like descendants of guillemots and gannets that swim alongside the now fully aquatic penguin species.
Turgis Ocean/Great Ice Shelf.
While solid land in the Turgis is rare now, the Great Ice Shelf still provides a home for those creatures hardy enough to eke out a living. These include a colony of ice-burrowing seabirds, ice burrowing semi-aquatic colonies of flightless midge descendants, giant sea hairs that dwell beneath the ice, predatory lobsters, aquatic penguin descendants and predatory descendants of seals and toothed whales.
Tundris Ocean.
Largely covered by ice, the Neo-Arctic ocean regions host unique new species which include aquatic polar bears capable of bringing down small whales.

2024.05.13 02:30 UstroyDestroy AI Developments and Insights: From Anthropics Participation in Hay Festival to Yann LeCuns Perspectives on AI

startups #event #hardware #feature #update #leaders #opensource #science #scheduled

Anthropic is set to support the 'AI needs you' session at Hay Festival, featuring a conversation between Verity Harding and Jonnie Penn. The discussion will focus on the transformative potential of AI and the importance of shaping its future to reflect our values and serve the public good [1].
Groq Inc is gearing up for several events. They are excited for ISC24, where they will showcase a demo of their LPU Inference Engine at booth M19 [2]. They are also inviting developers to interact with them at SHACK15sf during the AIatMeta hackathon hosted by Cerebral Valley [3]. In addition, Groq Inc has partnered with TierPoint's data center in Washington to support their high-speed LPU Inference Engine for processing large language models securely [4].
A majority of Twitter users favor "open source AGI" winning, although the exact definition of "open source", "AGI", and "win" is unclear. Meta is a significant contributor to Team Open Source [5]. In the AI industry, Apple and Amazon have been secretive about their AI developments, while Google's openness increased after the creation of FAIR but has been more closed off recently. DeepMind's "Foundations" division has published, but the rest of the company has not shared as much. Microsoft Research has a tradition of publications but limited open sourcing and tends to patent most things. Nvidia is mostly closed but has published some notable papers. IBM co-founded the AI Alliance to promote open source platforms and IBM Research has a tradition of publications. OpenAI started open but has become very secretive. Anthropic was never intended to be open due to the perceived dangers of AI [6].
Yann LeCun, a prominent figure in AI, has shared several insights. He mentioned that a significant portion of non-bot individuals interested in AI are on Twitter [7]. He acknowledges the presence of the double descent phenomenon in a graph presented by someone and notes that this phenomenon has been known in regularized linear regression for at least 35 years [8]. LeCun changed his perspective on AI after learning more about it from Demis Hassabis during a symposium on AI at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in the Vatican in 2016 [9]. He suggests that Geoff Hinton and Yoshua Bengio are considered on the fringe of the academic community regarding AI existential risk [10]. LeCun also explains that implicit regularization occurs in multilayer neural networks due to the dynamics of learning, similar to explicitly-regularized linear regression [11].

2024.05.13 01:38 trivetsandcolanders A hidden gem: “Imaginature” by HK119

HK119 is the musical project of Finnish musician and artist, Heidi Kilpeläinen.
While in earlier projects, Kilpeläinen took a sci-fi, robotic direction to make light of humanity, in her album “Imaginature” she sets off on an opposite direction—toward the wildness and uncharted territories of the natural world. This album is partly inspired by experiences the musician had in the Amazon rainforest.
While some aspects of the production are slightly rough-hewn, this only adds to the work’s originality and charm. From the hallucinogenic voyage of “Whale” to the life-affirming, stuttering beats and mischievous lyrics of “Rain,” “Imaginature” is a rare hidden gem that should receive more recognition for its artistic merit and danceability.

2024.05.12 23:04 Dimetro_Sparks I've decided to put my take on the Internet popular "Mothra: Queen of the Monsters"

I've decided to put my take on the Internet popular
Hope you all enjoy the show! (Fair warning, it's very long)
We start off as a flashback during early Ancient Egypt times, where Mothra was flying over the deserts, peacefully scattering her godly lights over man and animal alike, bowing down to her in reverence and becoming docile respectively, before she senses a disturbance somewhere. She rushes over to it, and sees Abaddon (using my idea for him, a huge-ass Dragonfly with a functional mouth, a stinger tail, and the forelimbs of a Praying Mantis) using his swarm to hunt for food.
Mothra dispels the swarm and attacks Abaddon with her God Rays, with Abaddon territorially attacking the Queen, and Mothra, in a show of stubbornness, engaging his challenge, and both insectoid Titans engaged in a brutal aerial battle as the Ancient Egyptians watched. It looked as it was going well for the more nimble Mothra, until Abaddon trapped Mothra in his raptorial forelimbs, brutally slamming and dragging her across the sands, before he lifted her and raised his stinger. It cuts to the Ancient Egyptians, who gasp and look on in horror as the sound of a sharp object and crunching sounds fill the air. Abaddon drops Mothra's lifeless corpse as he flies away, having satiated his hunger, while the screen zooms in on Mothra's eye. Whatever epic opening your mind makes happens, before the title lights up.
We follow Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) and her surrogate daughter Jia (Kaylee Hottle) again, this time joined with the Chen Twins, Dr. Ilene and Dr. Ling (both played by Zhang Ziyi) as Jia dreams about Mothra…'s hatching, that is. That's right, sometime after the battle in Rio de Janeiro, Mothra has flown to the Borneo Jungle and laid an egg there, and the main cast arrive to witness it in person, and naturally, when the larva hatches, it was a magnificent sight for all involved. When the night falls and Jia goes to sleep in the Borneo Outpost, she once again shares a dream with Mothra, joined by the Chen Twins, due to their history with the Queen… until the dream started going out of control, wildly flashing and prophesying, among other things, a high-pitched whining sound, unblinking red eyes, the earth collapsing, and darkness enveloping the skies.
Everyone in the dream, from where they are, wake up in a cold sweat, until they get an urgent call that the Mothra Larva was displaying an unnatural and out of character level of agitation, proven correct when they see the slightly nervous Mothra pulsating yellow and orange, before breaking free of her containment and vanishing into the forest. It was pretty easily seen that something big was about to go down if Mothra of all Titans was getting upset. And soon enough, it looked like it came true when a devastating earthquake shook a large part of Asia, splitting the ground asunder and causing ruin, all while energy signatures shows Mothra venturing into Hollow Earth. At this point, the humans knew something was up. So it was decided, one team, with Dr. Ilene Chen, would stay up on the Surface World and monitor any more earthquakes or disturbances, and another, with Dr. Ling, and newcomers to the series Lance Gibson (Donny Lucas) and Scarlet Wilde (Emilia Clarke) would venture into Hollow Earth to keep track of Mothra.
As Team Hollow Earth follows Mothra, understanding that she is sensing something they don't, they keep a close eye on her. Mothra continues making a beeline, hauling ass towards wherever, until she enters a foggy quarry and sees a flashing light that comes closer to her, causing Mothra to tense up, until the fog dispels and she sees… Battra. The flashing light was his horn, and Mothra, seeing this larva that shares the same similarities to her, softens up. Team Hollow Earth were stunned at seeing another Moth Titan, especially with scans showing they share the same genetic material. Mothra appears to be slightly taller than Battra, with Lance suggesting the possibility of them being siblings, and Mothra having hatched first, something that everybody agrees on. Battra has sensed Mothra's presence and vice-versa, with the Queen of the Monsters being visibly overjoyed to be an older sister. Until Battra's horn glows red, and he glows in agitation, before beckoning Mothra to follow him, and the humans trail after them.
Mothra and Battra's venture in the rest of Hollow Earth lead to the Moth Siblings getting ambushed by a large and aggressive Praying Mantis Sub-Titan called a Scymantis. Battra, who has never been in a serious battle before, was scared and hid behind Mothra, who fortunately, did know how to fight. Mothra does battle with the Scymantis, and Mothra, filled with a huge protective big sister instinct, had actually led to her killing the Scymantis, a move that stuns everyone watching, even Mothra herself, though she quickly collects herself and continues on to follow Battra's signal. Both Moth Siblings take a breather in a large beautiful grassy plain, where they see large glowing aphid-like creatures called Flight Lights, one of whom Mothra grabs and directs it's abdomen to her mouth, before eating in a delicious (to her) substance like an ant eating honeydew from an aphid. Battra tries to do the same as his sister, but he doesn't know how to, which visibly saddens him. Mothra, seeing the trouble her younger brother is facing, teaches him how to properly eat from a Flight Light, and does so properly, causing him to light up in happiness.
Meanwhile, with Team Surface World, Monarch is helping the areas of Asia that has been led to ruin by the earthquake, when they see the skies slightly darkening, something they identify to be a sign that Abaddon is arriving. Sure enough, he does indeed show up, his swarm following him. Abaddon was highly aggressive, something that confuses the Monarch team up above, until Abaddon reaches in and pulls out a huge insectoid Titan. The humans back away as Abaddon engages in a battle with the creature, before killing it, and feasting on it. Abaddon leaves, but the humans are left to ponder at what came out. Back in Hollow Earth, the Moth Siblings a large chasm in the ground, going several kilometers down, called the Gaping Maw. The Moth Siblings leap down the chasm, falling underneath and dispelling a veil of natural steam, with the humans following them, until they reach the bottom.
Mothra bravely treads ahead, while Battra cautiously trails behind her, his horn staying red. Until the humans manage to direct the two of them to a veil of what looked like webbing, with Scarlet confirming it not belonging to the Moth Titans. Both Moths rip it open, and see a huge hive, all filled to the brim with Meganulons, almost all of whom stop and stare at them. Battra was nervous, but Mothra crawled forward. Up until she sees a Meganulon about to fall to its death, at which point she rushes forward with no hesitation and saves it. As the Meganulon stared at her in what looked like awe and wonder, a loud screeching is heard, and all the Meganulons back away as both Moth Siblings. Battra looked terrified, while Mothra was defiant, as the Queen of the Meganulons, Megaguirus, emerged and hovered down to greet the newcomers.
Megaguirus sniffed Mothra out with her antennae, and understood that she came from the Surface World, which is good news for her, seeing as she wants to expand her hive. Until she sensed something else on the Surface. One of her own was dead, murdered. The same one that Abaddon killed. Furious at one of her brood's death, Megaguirus engaged the Moth Siblings in battle (yes, she treats her subjects with remarkably more respect and kindness that Skar King). Mothra valiantly fought her, even as a larva, while protecting the terrified Battra. While it looked like Mothra was doing well, Megaguirus, due to being mature, being incredibly speedy, having razor-sharp wings, and able to fly, managed to overpower her, grappling her in a deadly lock with her pincers and stinger tail, and even absorbing Mothra's energy with her stinger. Battra was scared, but upon seeing Mothra struggling, he decided to charge in and his horn lights up with yellow electrical (what looks like it, anyway) energy, and using it to force Megaguirus off of Mothra, who tag teams the Meganulon Queen and slams her to the ground.
They would have continued, if not for Megaguirus' wings glowing and letting out a roar. Suddenly, the ground erupted, and out came Megalon, whom Megaguirus treated almost like a brother, with Megalon in turn, being unfailingly loyal to her. And so, used his abilities over the earth to severely injure Mothra and Battra, forcing them to retreat. As the humans escape the Gaping Maw and bring the two Moth Titans to a secluded but humongous cavern to rest, the humans found ancient tunnels with writings of an ancient tribe, explaining that their God, Megalon, created the Vile Vortexes to Hollow Earth, but after getting touched by a "Golden Ray of Light", he had become destructive after meeting Megaguirus, a "kindred spirit", and have a solution should they ever attack the world. Unbeknownst to them, the Moth Siblings found that solution: a huge influx of Hollow Earth radiation, not only healing their wounds, but supercharging them, and accelerating their growth. When the humans finally notice the blinding lights behind them, they saw the double cocoons, and the literal blinding beauty of both Moth Siblings gracefully emerge in their Imago Forms.
Battra was amazed at his new form, while Mothra makes a dash and flies out, zooming out. Meanwhile, Battra flies back into the Gaping Maw to keep an eye on the Meganulons, he sees that Megaguirus is on the move, with Megalon and a crap-ton of Meganulon Warrior drones to assist her in her invasion of the Surface World. Battra flies back to the humans and warns this to Jia, who relays it to the humans, until Lance asks where the hell Mothra went to, with Scarlet bringing up scans revealing she went to the Surface. Back up in the Surface World, the team there reads Mothra's signatures erupting as she flies out, but she is making a straight beeline for a specific Titan. To Abaddon. Mothra is directly provoking him to get him to follow her to combat this threat, which worries Dr. Ling, seeing as she was aware of what Abaddon was capable of. Sure enough, the two Insect Titans collide in Bangladesh, where a furious Abaddon engages the challenging Mothra in combat once again. It seems as if history is going to repeat, until Battra steps in between the downed Mothra and Abaddon, and explains the situation. Abaddon was motionless for a few moments, before he backs off and follows Mothra and Battra to Hollow Earth.
With Team Hollow Earth, they were now tasked with holding the line between Megaguirus' forces, and the Vile Vortexes to the Surface World until Mothra comes back, knowing that they're in big trouble if they manage to get there. While this happens, Battra and Abaddon get into some skirmishes about one-upping the other due to Battra's newfound confidence with his powers and Abaddon's dislike of anything moth, but manage to hold it in enough to get to their destination. Soon enough, the three insectoid Titans arrive at the battlefield, where they charge in as Megaguirus and her forces do to. Mothra engages in a dogfight with Megaguirus, Battra attacks Megalon on the ground, and Abaddon makes some snacks out of the Meganulons, as the humans attempt to both escape and join in on the fight. During the brawl, Megalon manages to make the ground unstable enough for him to fall into a Vile Vortex, causing the other Titans (and humans) to follow suit.
In the Surface World, all the combatants find themselves in Barcelona, Spain. Megaguirus commands her hive with a high-pitched whining to arrive, with Megaguirus' absorption of Mothra's ability darkening the sky in a huge electrical superstorm, one Meganulon almost grabbing the humans, until Abaddon swoops in to save them, and the Moth Siblings follow suit. Their battles takes them to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone. During the clash of insects, Battra realized brute force wasn't going to work on Megalon, so he continued beating down the huge beetle, until he grabbed the fatigued Megalon, and aerial suplexed him, making the ground give way and having him plummet to the depths of the earth. Now without her biggest ally, Megaguirus attacks more furiously, but fails when both Moth Siblings tag-team her with slashes and stabs, as Battra amplifies Mothra's own abilities, when Mothra grabs her and stares her down. Megaguirus roars defiantly, which is when Mothra flies up to the superstorm and throws Megaguirus in there, electrocuting her, before Mothra slams Megaguirus down on one of the volcanoes, immolating her to death. Both Moth Siblings and Abaddon roar triumphantly as Mothra uses her God Rays to dispel the superstorm. Mothra looks at Abaddon, who seems to give her and Battra a look of respect, before he flies off.
Mothra is seen patrolling over the skies of the Amazon Rainforest, until she is greeted by Battra, as both the Moth Siblings exchange a cute little bioluminescent show of affection towards each other. Both teams of humans watch as Mothra and Battra fly off, casting a bigger light than the sun, and fade to white as the ending scene before credits roll.

2024.05.12 21:09 nidarus "Ethnostates", Ethnic Nationalism, and Israel/Palestine

One of the biggest debates in the I/P conflict, especially when it comes to the English-speaking world, is the argument Israel is illegitimate since it's an "ethnostate", and Zionism is illegitimate since it's "ethno-nationalism". I feel that a lot of it comes from misunderstanding of the basic terms, that are being utilized, dishonestly, to confuse people from countries such as the US or Canada. The result is that both Zionists and Palestinians aren't really talking on the same wavelength as the Americans, Canadians and Australians they're trying to engage with. I'd like to add my modest contribution to understanding these terms, or at least starting a more accurate conversation about them.

The basic terms

Nationalism, in the sense I'm using here, isn't an extreme or exclusionary form of patriotism. It's merely the idea that a certain nation-state should exist. People who want Ukraine to exist are Ukrainian nationalists. People who want a Palestinian state to exist are Palestinian nationalists. People who want a Jewish state to exist, are Zionists.
Hebrew, incidentally, has two separate words for "nationalism": the "bad", chauvinistic kind, Leumanut, and the "good", or at least neutral nation-building kind, Leumiyut. It's not some right-wing double-speak either. Even anti-Zionist Israeli communists say things like "I oppose Leumanut, not Leumiyut". English, and as far as I know, other languages, don't have that distinction, which I feel leads to a lot of confusion. But to be clear, I'm talking about Leumiyut, the idea that a nation-state should exist, not Leumanut, the idea a specific nation-state is superior, worth dying for, or even generally nice.
Ethnic nationalism is the idea to create and maintain a state that's defined by a specific ethnic group, that existed before the state, and will continue to exist if the state is dissolved. Germans, Armenians and Greeks existed for thousands of years. The states of Germany, Armenia and Greece did not.
Most of the states in Europe, and most notably in Central and Eastern Europe, are ethnic nationalist states, defined by a specific, ancient ethnic group. Which occasionally immigration policies that favor members of that ethnicity, even if they never had anything to do with the modern state.
Civic nationalism is the opposite of that idea, a state whose nation is defined by the state, and not the other way around. The actual discourse on civic nationalism vs. ethnic nationalism is more complex and nuanced, but as a rule of thumb, I'd say that ethnic nationalism is when the people exists before the state, and civic nationalism is when the state exists before the people. An American or French person is purely a citizen of America or France. A German could be German without having a single ancestor who ever set foot in the modern state of Germany, let alone had a citizenship from that state. Civic nationalism is the form of nationalism that's ubiquitous in the New World colonies, like the US, Canada, Australia, and so on.
Ethnostate is, as far as I can tell, a Neo-Nazi term, generally associated with the term "white ethnostate". That doesn't really exist until the 1980's, and only explodes in popularity around the mid 2010's, with the rise of the alt-right, and the straight-up White Nationalist book "The Ethnostate". The basic gist of the "ethnostate", is a state where only a specific ethnicity has any rights at all. And better yet, only a single ethnicity, full stop. Israel, with its large, 20% non-Jewish minority, doesn't qualify.
Ethnocracy is a separate term, invented by the Israeli leftist Oren Yiftachel to describe how Israel isn't really a normal democracy. Further research into the term, lead to the conclusion that other states, including NATO members Estonia, Latvia and Turkey (officially a civic nation-state), are "ethnocracies as well".

The debate

There's a legitimate discussion to be had, between ethnic nationalism and civic nationalism. And people from civic nationalist states tend to think their form of nationalism is superior. But it's important to note that both kinds of states exist today, in the democratic, Western world. The breakdown of the civic nationalist USSR, and the creation of ethnic nationalist states of Estonia, Latvia, Armenia, Georgia and so on, is generally considered a good thing, even within ideologically civic nationalist states like the US. And even states that the US don't particularily like, like Syria, aren't considered ethno-nationalist abominations for being an official "Arab Republic". Germany, even after the Holocaust, was allowed to remain an ethnic nationalist state, and have an immigration policy that would make easier for ethnic Germans, that never had a German citizenship, to flee to it. While there's a debate between ethnic nationalism and civic nationalism, both types of nationalism are generally considered legitimate, even desirable.
Most importantly, within the context of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, is that Palestinian nationalism is a clear ethnic nationalism. And a far more exclusionary, xenophobic form of ethnic nationalism than Zionism. The Palestinian National Charter uses Palestinian Arab and Palestinian interchangeably, while the proposed Palestinian constitution defines Palestinians as being part of the Arab nation. While Zionism, from the very beginning, assumed it would have a meaningful non-Jewish minority, Palestinian nationalism doesn't even seem to consider the idea of non-Arabs being Palestinians. In fact, the only reason why a small portion of Jews would be allowed to be Palestinians, is because according to the Palestinian National Charter, Jews are not a legitimate nation at all, and therefore could be Arabs as well.
Even after the Nakba, Israel has a 20% non-Jewish minority, and openly calling to expel all of them is considered beyond the pale (and possibly illegal) for even the far-right MKs. While even moderate two-stater Palestinians demand every Jew to be expelled from the State of Palestine, for it to be "free". Needless to say, the Palestinians have no intention of making Hebrew an official minority language, forcing their government to issue official communications in Hebrew, having special Hebrew-language schools and state TV channel, to cater to their hopefully non-existent Jewish minority. There's a reason why the most common Arabic version of "from the river to the sea" is "from the water to the water, Palestine will be Arab". There's a reason why Palestinians support the idea of a civic nationalist Palestine even less than the Israeli Jews do, with around 5%-8% thinking it's the best solution for the conflict.
If you're opposing Zionism because it's ethnic nationalist, and support Palestinian nationalism, you're either being ignorant, hypocritical, or actively trying to deceive. If you proudly fly the Palestinian Arab flag, support or make excuses for hardcore ethno-nationalist Palestinian Arab organizations and individuals, and argue that the Jews don't deserve a state in the Levant, because unlike the Arabs they're "European colonialists", you can't claim you're against ethnic nationalism. If you exclusively talk about the one Jewish state, and never against the existence of any other ethnic nation-states, you can't claim you're against all ethnic nationalism. The entire argument against Zionism as ethnic nationalism, in my opinion, is mostly an argument meant to deceive people in civic nationalist states in the US, to support one ethnic nationalist movement over another, not a serious pro-Palestinian argument.
As for "ethnostate", even if we ignore the fact Israel isn't an actual "ethnostate" by definition, it's interesting to note how not a single ethnic nationalist state except for Israel is ever denounced as an "ethnostate". Even those that are actively discriminatory against their ethnic minorities, committed a genocide against them (like Iraq did with the Kurds), or simply expelled them (as the Arabs state did with their Jews). "Ethnostate" either refers to the Neo-Nazi dream scenario, or Israel. I'd also like to caution pro-Israelis from arguing that Israel is an "ethnostate" and that "ethnostates" are good. "Ethnostate" is a Neo-Nazi term, and the point of calling Israel an "ethnostate" is to equate Zionism with White Nationalism, not as a legitimate discussion of ethnic vs. civic nationalism.
"Ethnocracy" is a little more complicated. As I pointed out, it's a term invented specifically to describe Israel, so obviously it fits Israel - at least in the eyes of the leftists who invented it. But if you're opposed to Israel's existence because of its "ethnocratic" nature, you certainly need to debate the Estonian, Latvian, Turkish or Malaysia ethnocracy as well. Like with the opposition to all ethnic nationalism, you can't keep obsessing exclusively about the Jewish state, and claim this is some principled opposition to all ethnocracies.
Ultimately, I feel it's best if we stop pretending that the I/P conflict is anything but the conflict between two ethnic nationalist movements. With civic nationalism as a third solution, that's goes against both nationalist movements (or at least their overwhelming non-Communist mainstream), and is deeply unpopular among both nations. And if we insist on having the ethnic nationalist vs. civic nationalist debate, we can't pretend Israel is the only ethnic nationalist state, and that ethnic nationalism has been otherwise repudiated and eradicated. And there's no reason to use inflammatory terms like "ethnocracy" or "ethnostate", over "ethnic nationalism" vs. "civic nationalism".

2024.05.12 21:02 Sorostouchedmypeepee According to my former dsp I “don’t have what it takes” so they fired me after only taking four routes.

According to my former dsp I “don’t have what it takes” so they fired me after only taking four routes.
What really happened is 1 of the 4 dispatchers is a little twat who singled me out for whatever reason his tiny little brain could muster. On my first day by myself I was inspecting the van I was assigned to, pos had a broken sliding door. I told Mr. Mediocre dispatcher who was initially going to put me in another van, and then he body slammed the door until it opened and sent me on my way. Needless to say that decision fucked me all day long, at one point the door go so stuck that it took me and some random dude checking his mail to open it. Next day was pretty good, it was only my second day though so as instructed by the real Amazon employees I took my time and prioritized organization and accuracy but still got done in about six hours including breaks. Third day I was assigned to a route with 20 additional stops and the main road was being torn up and repaved, it’s also a route that’s notoriously known for backtracking. Despite all that I finished at exactly the same time as I did the day before. Mind you, I’ve been asking the other dispatchers how I’ve been doing and they show me the graph blah blah and they all tell me I’m doing fine, that my pace is a little slow but everybody’s pace is a little slow in the beginning and that the entire point of the nursery routes is to gradually increase the pace and the amount of stops simultaneously. Fourth day, once again 20 additional stops were added to my route. I was held up for about 30 minutes at an illegally operated casino, called dispatch let them know blah blah blah. 1:47pm I took my lunch, clocked back in at 2:17 and started heading to the next stop. At 2:22 I got a phone call from the twatty dispatch that disrupted my navigation, made me miss my turn, and forced me to pull over. “what’s going on?” “What do you mean?” “You’ve been stationary for 30 minutes” “I know, I just took my lunch and I’m on my way to my next stop” “That’s not what it said in the flex app” “I clocked out in ADP, I didn’t realize I was supposed to use the flex app for lunch, I thought I was only supposed to use it for the 15’s because those breaks are paid and lunch isn’t.” chuckles “okay”
An hour later I’m in a group chat that was started by Mr. Twatty Pants and he’s chewing me out over my arrival time to my first stop after lunch. As I was reading it I immediately realized that the mf set me up. He deliberately waited to call me until after I started moving because he knew I would have to pull over, he knew it would delay me, and he knew it would look like I was just sitting on the side of the road for 7 minutes to anybody else looking at the computer screen. This mf also made it seem like I took a break before I even started delivering!!! In reality there’s a gas station that everybody in my dsp stops at to use the bathroom in the morning otw to our delivery area smh. I’m also pretty sure he didn’t tell the owner about me not knowing about using the flex app for lunch, he definitely didn’t tell him about the van with the broken door that he knowingly allowed me to use for my route.
Anyways idk what all he said to the owner but he basically convinced him that I fuck off all day, and that I can’t be trusted in the van so I got yeeted before starting what would have been my fifth route.

2024.05.12 20:42 kayakero Automatic trading system based on RSI indicator

Automatic trading system based on RSI indicator
Strategy Set Up
This strategy is inspired by ideas from the book High Probability ETF Trading: 7 Professional Strategies to Improve Your ETF Trading”, written by Larry Connors and Cesar Alvarez.
In this book, both authors show us the use of the short RSI as an indicator to obtain precise overbought and oversold signals .
Basically, the system gives an entry signal when the value of the 3-period RSI falls below 20 , and gives an exit signal when the same RSI crosses above 60 . We trade on a daily chart and always open/close trades at the next day's open.
As you can see, they are very simple rules. And I love simple systems. In fact, most of the winning systems that I have studied are very simple, made up of 3 conditions at most.
We will choose the Nasdaq index in its ETF version “QQQ” as the asset to operate due to its bullish nature. For this same reason, we will discard short operations.

▶️ Entry rule

RSI(3) < 20

▶️ Exit rule

RSI(3) > 60
Pine Script Programming
The code to program and simulate this strategy in TradingView is also very simple. Practically, there are 4 lines of code:
Example
Let's see the strategy in action.
Below, I share with you a screenshot of the QQQ ETF graph on a daily basis, with the respective entry and exit signals indicated with arrows of different colors.
https://preview.redd.it/1pl2bbldi10d1.png?width=789&format=png&auto=webp&s=475797ebb87f9f3edb80ced408baa373c533412d
  • Blue candle -> Indicates entry.
  • Red candle -> Indicates exit.
For this period that I show you of just over 4 months, the system carries out 4 operations (all of them winning).
And the success rate for this mean reversion system is quite high, approaching 70% success. Win 7 out of 10 operations.
The average time per operation is 5 days . For example, the first operation lasts 9 days; During the first 7 days the price continues to fall slightly... but a comeback in the last 2 days manages to close the operation in positive.
Let's also look at the last operation, how the RSI nails the oversold level to enter at the lowest point and come out positive on the third day.
Historical performance
And how has this system worked historically?
Starting from an initial capital of $50,000, and a period of application from the birth of this ETF (at the beginning of 1999) until the day of publication of this article (July 2023), we see that it has achieved a total return of 1114.18 % , that is, about $557,092.13.
https://preview.redd.it/b94pkf5ji10d1.png?width=982&format=png&auto=webp&s=467e706beecc29351ca2c984ad61e2a526c2eb5b
Added to the initial 50,000, it gives us a total account of $607,092.13.
The profitability (green graph) greatly exceeds the "buy & hold" strategy (blue line). We will discuss it in the next section.
We observed a total of 248 operations carried out, 69.76% of them winning . The average profit per operation has been about $2,246.34 and the profit factor , that is, what we earn per dollar lost, is $2.33.
Comparison
What would have happened if we had bought the ETF in early 1999 (when it was born) and held the position to this day?
With 50 thousand dollars invested we would have obtained a return close to 650% , this in dollars translates into about 325,000 dollars, which added to the initial capital gives us about 375,000 dollars in account. About half of what the strategy gets .
Let's compare returns:
$557,092.13 (strategy) > $325,000 (buy&hold).
We therefore confirm that our strategy based on the RSI indicator beats the ETF.
Weak points
Let's now comment on a couple of negative points.
For the simulation we have not taken into account commissions and slippage. This obviously penalizes the final profitability and it depends on each broker (and their commissions) whether the strategy is worthwhile and can continue to beat the index.
Another negative point is the drawdown, the maximum capital drop that the simulation experiences. It is a point that could be improved, since it is close to 40%. That is, at some point, with this system we lose 40% of our capital , so it is not suitable for people with high risk aversion.
For example, we could add some stop loss mechanism, although sacrificing profit to smooth out the drawdown. Although mean reversion systems do not like the use of stop losses too much. It is a matter of finding the balance between loss of profitability and an acceptable drawdown .
Final words
With this article I want to emphasize two things.
The first is that, as we have seen, we do not need to complicate our lives with strategies with a thousand indicators, exotic formulas, complex combinations of factors, etc. to obtain good results . We have seen that, simply, with a buy and a sell condition (and a single indicator) we have been able to beat the Nasdaq QQQ ETF since its inception.
The second is that, as you have seen, TradingView is a fantastic tool for backtesting automatic strategies.
I hope this article has been of interest to you, and we'll see you in the next one.

2024.05.12 07:46 No_Situation_6514 Avic Care Guide - Lets Stop Killing Our Avics!

****Work in progress, post is not complete yet.****
Disclaimer: All postings of advice here are of my own experience and opinions over my many years of keeping 10+ Avic / Versicolor tarantulas. Please feel free to leave feedback if anything needs updating.

Introduction

Over the years, care instructions have changed and evolved over time in the keeping of Avic/Versicolor species. Back about 8-10 years ago, it was common thought that since Avic tarantulas lived in rainforests, that they required high humidity to thrive. I mean duh, it seems like it makes sense, right? However, that thought process is incorrect and led to a lot of deaths in the hobby.
Unfortunately what keepers and care guides failed to take into account back then are the some of the following:

What has changed? Why do I still see posts online about high humidity percentages?

Simply put, a lot of less reputable sellers, bloggers, internet posters, etc. all kind of regurgitate that same, incorrect information that was prevalent long ago. This is either due to taking the lazy way out, and often Googling “Pink toe environment” which will give you a completely irrelevant humidity number in which they come from, or just being misinformed and not doing a lot of research into the topic. Which of course, like most misinformation, will spread if not remedied.
As a community/hobby we have come up with some of the following points on proper care, which I will describe more in depth later on.

Current Information, Expanded Upon

Substrate

For substrate, I like to use the K.I.S.S acronym, otherwise politely known as Keep it simple, stoopid. This means pure, dry, store bought coconut fiber. I have yet to find a store yet that doesn’t stock it. Avics simply don’t really even use the substrate, so there’s no reason to over think this. Don’t over complicate by trying to use sand or rocks, just keep it simple.

Moisture

As I mentioned before, tarantulas do not benefit from moisture in the air like it may be thought. They get all of their moisture (in captivity) from substrate, water dishes, prey items, or misting/dropping.
For Avics, it really is as simple as keeping a water dish topped up in their enclosure. That’s it. Nothing more is needed. You can slightly over fill the dish every 2 weeks if you want, but that’s the most you should do. Terrestrial tarantulas will get their moisture from substrate and / or a water dish, but since Avics / Versis are arboreal, they WILL NOT use the substrate. In 9/10 cases, seeing an Avic or Versi on the substrate is cause for concern.
With that water dish, it is preferred to hot glue it to the side of the enclosure, or onto a portion of cork bark, so that the T does not have to wander to the surface for water.

Enclosures and sizing

As with any tarantula, you want to keep them in approximately sized enclosure. Do not order a .5 inch sling and expect to throw them into a 12x12 enclosure. It’s simply too large, and can lead to issues with keeping track of the T, issues with the T running into prey, and general discomfort being in such a large space.
For Avics, a good rule of them is 2x the DLS (Diagonal leg span) of the T, by 4x the DLS of the T. You may hear 2x3, and that’s fine too, but I use that extra space to offset the usable space from the small amount substrate used.
For a very small sling, a pill bottle or small deli container will work. You will need to poke a lot of very small holes in it, however, to ensure adequate ventilation.
A larger sling can be kept in the largest pill bottle you can fine, or a medium deli container, with the same rules applied above.
For a juvenile, 6x6x9 inches is a good size.
For an adult, most of us keep them in 8x8x12 enclosures. Some with abnormally large Avics may push for 12x12x18, but I think that may be a bit drastic.

Enclosures and ventilation

As mentioned previously, Avics need ventilation in order to thrive and survive. You will often hear to this as cross ventilation. That means, you have ventilation that comes from the top and sides. While it’s certainly one of the most popular methods, it’s not the only one.
Particularly popular in the UK are enclosures that are made of glass, have ventilation on the top, as well as 1/4 up the front. I won’t get into the boring science of it, but TL;DR version is that with the way air sinks and rises, this type of enclosure will naturally pull and push air through. The most popular ones sold in the U.S. are the Exo Terras. Zoomed also makes some.
An acrylic enclosure is often the best, as if there is not an adequate number of holes, then you can always add your own. With glass, that is not the case, so you will want to plan accordingly and ensure you do proper homework.

Enclosures to avoid

I will not be naming and shaming here, partly because I don’t know the names or keep up with the 50,000 new Chinese made enclosures that pop up on Amazon every year.
In general you should avoid:
Along with keeping in too much moisture, those enclosures will lead to stagnant air pooling in the bottom of the enclosure and becoming toxic, possibly due to CO2 build up.

Enclosures I recommend

Slings:
For slings, I keep it cheap and simple, as they will likely be upgrading enclosures every few months, so you do not want to spend $70 on each new enclosure (unless you do, then you can do that).
Large dram / pill bottles are great for slings, as well as different sizes of deli containers. As usual of course, ensure that you add plenty of ventilation in what ever you choose.
Juveniles / adults:
If you are on a budget, there are quite a few great enclosures on Amazon that you can get for pretty cheap. Just make sure to adhere to the rule that you should have ventilation on the top, sides, and down near the substrate level.
If you are looking for an acrylic enclosure, Tarantula Cribs treehouse enclosures are great. I prefer the switch large, as it has a door on the front, rather than opening from the top like many other arboreal enclosures do. 8x8x12 is a very popular size for larger juveniles to adults.
If you are looking for a glass enclosure that works on the fundamentals of having that natural European push / pull effect, I personally use Exo Terra and Reptizoo. Again, these are 8x8x12s, for keeping larger juveniles / adults. When you're looking for these enclosures, it's important to ensure that there is a strip of ventilation near the bottom 1/4 of the enclosure. This will allow you to have your substrate up to that line, and then you'll have substrate level ventilation with no danger of CO2 or stagnant air pooling down there.
The important aspect to remember with the glass enclosures, is that they will very likely will come with mesh lids. These are bad, as your T can get their feet or fangs stuck in them, leading to injury or death. You will want to replace the lids with thin pieces of acrylic with plenty of ventilation holes drilled or melted into it. Then, simply glue or silicone the lid to the inside mesh, and boom, you have a perfectly safe enclosure!

Enclosure Setup

Pure and simple, the easiest way to mentally visualize how you should set up your enclosure is to imagine a tiny tree in a box. That is, you will want to have your substrate, then cork bark, twigs, and fake foliage to simulate a tree top. Notice how I mentioned fake foliage. This is important. Especially if this is your first T or first attempt at an enclosure, you do not want to attempt to keep live plants in the enclosure. With how dry you should be keeping this species, the plant will very likely die. Do not risk it for the sake of trying to keep it natural. There are replicas of nearly every plant out there, the tarantula will not dislike having fake plants instead of live plants, but certainly would probably rather be alive - don't risk it.
I personally like to position a cork flat on the back of the enclosure wall, then fill the top 3/4 of the enclosure with plenty of fake foliage. After that, you can add in additional twigs and various types of wood like spider wood or cholla wood.
For these Ts, there is no such thing as too busy in regards to hiding spots and web anchoring material. Simply put, the more foliage and such that you give them, the more they are able to hide and thus be comfortable in their environment. The more comfortable they are and the more webbing anchoring you give them also means that they will sooner create their beautiful and complex web tunnels. Seriously, all the foliage and anchoring you give them, they will use to make their homes.

Handling

Plain and simple, most keepers DO NOT recommend handling your tarantulas. While you are very unlikely to be bitten by an Avic or Versicolor, their flightiness and general shy behavior makes them bad candidates for holding and presents a danger to the Ts health. These Ts are often very quick to bolt / flee, and can actually jump, which means if you attempt to hold them and spook the T, they very likely will run / jump away from you.
If you insist on holding your Avic or Versicolor, you should do so responsibly in an enclosed environment that poses no escape risk, as well as holding them near the ground. Even though they are an arboreal species, a fall from height can and will injure them.

Feeding

For feeding, it's essentially the same as any other tarantula species. That is, you should choose an appropriately sized feeder, whether that be mealworms (live), crickets, or roaches. My personal go to are Dubia Roaches, as they live a long time, stink way less, and make no noise as compared to something like crickets.
As for most cases when feeding tarantulas, you should not tong feed. Tong feeding can lead to the T biting the tongs, and potentially breaking off their fangs. Not to mention they can also run up your tongs, which presents a danger to you and the T.
The best way to feed your Avic or Versi is to simply add in some prey items and let the T hunt them naturally. If the T does not eat the prey item within 24 hours, you can remove it and try again in a few days.
I have seen some keepers attempt to feed their T preserved or freeze dried mealworms / other feeders. Do not do this, as the preserved feeders can have chemicals in them that aren't great for your T. Freeze dried simply will not provide any sustenance for your T, as there is no liquid for the T to eat. Stick to live feeders when ever possible.

Feeding Frequency

You can safely follow general feeding instructions that you would use for any other tarantula. If your T is a sling, feed them 2-3 times per week with an appropriately sized prey item. For small slings, you can safely prekill the prey item, but it's preferred to keep them live if you can.
For juveniles and adults, feed them one or two appropriately sized feeders once a week.

Heating Pads and Hygrometers

NOT NEEDED in 99% of all cases. If your home is above 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20C), you do not need supplemental heating. If you are an exception to this rule, a space heater is the best way to heat the entire room evenly and safely, as opposed to a heating pad.
Heating pads are discouraged, as your T will very likely gravitate towards the heat and sit there until they cook or dehydrate themselves to death. If you do choose to ignore the warnings about heating pads, you should ensure that they are not directly attached to the enclosure. A popular way of doing this is affixing it to a wall behind the enclosure, and allowing a gap of 8 -12 inches between the pad and the enclosure depending on the output of the heating pad. Ensure you have a thermostat attached to it that monitors the enclosure walls temp so that it does not get too warm.
Hygrometers are useless and often cause new keepers to freak out about the humidity percentage their T is kept at. Remember when I mentioned that tarantulas do not benefit from humidity in the air like you would think? This means that humidity percentages and numbers you will get from a hygrometer are useless. Seriously, you do not need one. Keep this species dry with a water dish, and they will be perfect, I promise. Do not give in to the pressure of what that pet shop employee is trying to sell you. It is not needed.
Along with the above, you should also refrain from using any heating lamps, or lighting in general. Heating lamps are probably one of the most dangerous things you can provide to your T. Seriously, do not do it. They are unneeded in 99% of cases, and as mentioned before, space heaters are the safest way of heating for the 1% that do need additional heating.
Regular lamps / lighting are unneeded and should not be used, as they can put out heat. That is bad for all the reasons I have already mentioned. Regular lighting should not be used for the fact that tarantulas are nocturnal and often do not like light.

Confused, please send help
Good evening everyone. Long time lurker first time caller here. I got my house in spring of 2021 and with it space to be able to plant and grow things. I started off like with a lot eagerness but zero knowledge. I am in Colorado 6A.
After finding this place and other subs on Reddit I decided the best way forward was to get a soil testing kit to even see what could be grown. The results said that I have basically fill dirt and no nutrients. Talking to the neighbor and Google Earth maps told me the previous residents had an above ground pool at some point and a small hoardering problem. After listening to a coworker who "knew stuff" I decided to try and use the first year amending the ground where I wanted to make beds. Excitement got the best of me and I landed volcanic soil and a tiller from Amazon.
I tried planting a variety of things a few months later and learned my first of many lessons. Outside beds take way more water than indoor plants do! Oopsie poopsie.
Last year I tried again with my amended beds and actual watering to some success. Corn and cherry tomatoes (thanks pepper gate for getting tomatoes too) and corn were had! While I like to say I took this small victory with grace, I may, allegedly, have gone and gotten the large survey measuring tape from harbor freight and a pad of graph paper to fully plan out my attack for this year.
Now that the backstory is done we come to my problem. After doing some research into what native pollinator plants to plant I seeded the yard and have been quasi patiently waiting to plant my vegetable seeds. I went out to start prepping the beds and ran across this new friend. It is growing in a part of the yard that I haven't touched yet. Google images tell me it is a tree onion. Please, smart people of gardening help me identify my new found friend.

Mutually Assured Destruction - Striking Back
In 1981 President Ronald Reagan fired a large contingency of air traffic controllers after agreeing to give them a 33% pay raise, 11% a year over the next three years. PATCO had asked for an even larger raise, thirty two hour work-weeks and to be exempt from multiple civil service clauses and engaged in a public strike to try to achieve these aims. After asking the controllers to return to work, Reagan invoked title 5 U.S.C. 7311 which prohibits any civil servant from engaging in a strike against the government. This title is upheld by the Federal Labor Relations Authority which ought to consist of three impartial bodies, each from a different political party (more on this later). The political climate of this time was very much akin to ours, inflation was quickly growing and the public sector jobs were having trouble keeping up with the pay of other private employers. Quality of life for controllers was dwindling and aviation was booming rapidly. Looking at flight data for around that time commercial flights amongst air carriers was lower than what it is now and the number of controllers was very similar to what we have now - the key difference however is that cargo was a much smaller piece of the aviation pie than it is today. Only 10% of the controller workforce didn't participate in the strike and the government took military controllers from their posts and moved them to the FAA to help curtail the impact felt from the loss of controllers. The FAA felt extremely confident that the impacts would be mitigated after only about two years but real time data shows that staffing levels didn't recover until a full decade after the firings of the controllers. The FAA also claimed that they were able to maintain 50% of the regular flight schedule.
https://preview.redd.it/blpgik7f7vzc1.png?width=1547&format=png&auto=webp&s=7aca206f6e9cddf61ec98320754f5acc2d097e93
A quick look at this graph shows the precipitous crash of passenger flights throughout the early 1980s but the most important takeaway from this graph is the tremendous harm to the contribution of the GDP of the United States that air travel represents for the next five years afterwards. Fast forward to today and aviation is even more intrinsically tied to the GDP. Statistics show that aviation supports 4.1% of the worldwide GDP, and in America that figure represents 5% of the GDP to the tune of 1.4 trillion dollars. Recently released FAA figures indicate that there are approximately 14,000 controllers. Mathematically that means that each controller from the lowliest tower to the busiest facility helps to facilitate $100,000,000 of economic stimulation every year. Over the course of a career that means that each air traffic controller has helped to ensure billions of dollars are moved safely in our great nation. We are very valuable, that much goes without say. This year however the Fed estimates that the GDP growth will slow down to 1.8%, down from an estimated 6% growth. Any adverse action against air traffic control will invariably lead to a years long recession in a country where inflation is growing rampantly. That's the power that we hold collectively and that's why the strikes are so successful in other countries. An air traffic strike in this day and age however would likely be a battle of public opinion as it would affect other powerful unions (pilots, flight attendants) and mega corporations (UPS, Amazon), who would likely overwhelmingly prefer we be compensated and go back to the boards rather than risk the economic damages that having to retrain an entire generation of controllers would ensue. A generation that has been critically understaffed, and who are having trouble attracting and keeping qualified candidates as is. The only thing stopping us is that pesky title 5. This is where things get deeper though as currently the FLRA that enforces such actions only has 2 of 3 appointees, basically ensuring a 50/50 toss up between the Republican appointee and the Democratic appointee. Interestingly the Democratic appointee is someone by the name of Susan Grundmann, who previously acted as the counsel to our very own National Air Traffic Controllers Association. What this means is that if we were to ever entertain the idea of a strike she would likely have to recuse herself leaving Trump's appointee Colleen Kiko as the only person to decide our fates, obviously ensuring that we would lose any and all litigation. The only way to feasibly strike would be to try to sue for our ability to do so, something which PATCO tried to do unsuccessfully in the 80s. This is why being fiscally responsible and ensuring we have a war chest is extremely important. Instead of frivolously spending our dues on nonsense like open bar tabs and extravagant conventions NATCA should be pursuing any and all avenues to try to reinvigorate our workforce and give us the power to truly exercise our rights as workers.

2024.05.11 17:22 Distelzombie Bought twice as expensive probe, but turns out worse than china toy?

Hi
I have a Rigol DS1202Z-e, that is a 200mhz scope. At first I boought cheap chinese 300mhz probes, but they're bad. (The P7300. One is giving less vrms/vpp than the other) So I bought a reasonably priced 350mhz probe to test what I am missing. It even has a datasheet! xD It's a TT-HX 312. It feeeels good. :) They also havr one of those Vrms to frequrncy graph, but you can't see anything after 100mhz because it's so small. At least it does not touch zero. Impedence graph says at 130 it has around 2kOhm
I can't comoensate the china probe for 1Mhz, and not the TTs because I don't have such a squarewave gen.
But, using a crappy 130mhz oscillator I build, the 300mhz probes show a better signal intensity, i use Vpp or my eyes to check that. The 350mhz are always lower, have a 42+° phase shift. Of course i tried eliminating errors, so I used both 300 and 350 probes together, used them alone, switched their position on the board, switched the scope input... They're always "worse".
Did I misunderstand something about the "rule" to buy ... No that makes no sense. The original probes are 350 as well. So... What did I do wrong? xD

2024.05.10 04:00 ArmChairAnalyst86 SPACEWEATHER UPDATE - 5/9 10:00 PM EST - GEOMAGNETIC STORM FORECAST & SIT REP

SPACEWEATHER UPDATE - 5/9 10:00 PM EST - GEOMAGNETIC STORM FORECAST & SIT REP
UPDATED 5/9 @ 3 AM EST
CURRENTLY THERE IS AN X2.5 IN PROGRESS STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES. IT MAY NOT BE OVER.
Good evening. While the day has not been what you would call quiet, with a big X flare and CME again, it was a little quieter than the days before. It is currently around 9 PM EST and X-Ray flux is bouncing around but mostly hovering between high C and low M levels, which does speak to significant background activity and indicates that a big flare could come at any time. However, if it does not occur within the next 12 hours or so, it would have a hard time catching up with the existing CMEs in the pipeline. The X1 and CME from earlier today does appear to have a minor earth directed component, but it appears to be pretty weak comparatively speaking and not very fast. It's likely to arrive separately, but we wait and see for model guidance.
I find myself here with writer's block after just banging away on this keyboard all day but I am going to power through this. Here is what we know.
  • No less than 4 distinct CMEs are headed our way stemming from long duration high M and low X class flares slated to arrive over the weekend
  • Current official forecast is for up to G4 or Kp8 levels, however some models suggest a high end parameter of Kp9 so we will consider that in the range of outcomes.
  • At this time, it is not widely expected that there will be significant disruption or damage from this storm, but it should be noted how dynamic and variable the setup is. Is.
  • A Carrington Event does NOT appear to be in the works. AR3664 will rotate away from a geoeffective location in the next 24 to 48 hours or so.If no major flares happen in the next 24 hours, we can probably put those concerns to rest. The existing storm is still formidable, but probably not at dangerous levels.
  • There does appear to be a substantial sunspot group that will rotate onto the earth facing side in the coming days which I will get into later in this article.
Geomagnetic Storm Forecast/Prediction - 5/10-5/13
As I write this, the last model run for the ENLIL Spiral which forecasts CME direction, velocity, and density, was at 13:00 UTC which is quite dated at this point. We have 4 distinct waves of plasma launched from the sun over the last 48 hours or so. It appears that the first 3 will congeal into a single wave and arrive at the same time. This would be the cannibalization effect. It appears the biggest event stemmed from the double peaked X1 & M9.8 that occurred late yesterday afternoon (EST). The fourth wave looks like it will arrive the following day or so.
I am having trouble downloading the video of the model, so here is the link. The bonus is when you click it, if there is an update, it will show you the most recent. Here is a snapshot though. It appears as only 3 waves because the first two combine nearly instantly. I am mainly focusing on the DONKI scorecard which is also linked below.
https://preview.redd.it/1kxlcnc3aizc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=e3a2c2b2b9f8dfdfaec6b418d0a5853a3799e172
https://preview.redd.it/d82hfna4aizc1.png?width=513&format=png&auto=webp&s=4339ff57c3de20e63671ea000bfa4ee69b65499b
The official NOAA forecast as it stands now is as follows.
https://preview.redd.it/u4vycct5aizc1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=789a23fe6d051ee82f9b19ff473ba1258865a3d9
They are showing an upper parameter of Kp8+. The DONKI scorecard is showing a max range between Kp 8-9 for multiple CMEs. The scorecard is too large to attach, but I will include the link. It is important to remember how many variables and unknowns there are. We measure the CME when they leave the sun and we detect them when they arrive, but for the long journey from sun to earth, we are essentially blind. That is not such a big deal when its only 1 CME being modeled since we can detect its density and velocity upon ejection from the sun and feed it into the models. In this case we have several major (but not scary) CMEs that launched in pretty quick succession at varying velocity.
Asking the models to nail this forecast, when they can hardly accurately predict garden variety events in many cases seems like a big ask. As a result, the overall details are pretty solid. We know what left the sun, we just don’t know how exactly it will recombine. There is a scenario here where we don't even get to G3 conditions. We will just have to take it as it comes. They all suggest that Kp9 is well within the realm of possibility, and with it the potential for a G5 storm, which would be the first since Halloween storms of 2003 when a similar scenario unfolded, but the magnitude of flares was dramatically higher, but less geoeffective in their trajectory and thank goodness for that. This is NOT that, but G5 is in the cards and wont surprise anyone if it comes to pass.
Even so, a G5 storm does not equal Carrington Event. There is no upper bound for a G5. Technically the Carrington Event and Halloween 2003 were both G5 events, but clearly there is a massive difference. It should be noted that this is also the first G4 watch since 2005. Anyway you shake it, this is extraordinary, but not unprecedented.
Bottom line - The possibility for disruption does exist, but is not likely at high or widespread levels. The range of outcomes is higher than normal due to overall complexity and dynamics of the event. Its simply rare to see this many CMEs come our way so quickly. As a result I recommend being prepared as you would for a long duration weather event. Just make sure you are good for 3 days, and you can rest easy.
What Path Exists For a Catastrophic Event?
In my humble opinion, in order for us to need to worry about Carrington 2.0, the sun will have to produce a big X-Class flare with extremely high velocity overnight, allowing it to catch up with the existing and combine. The other scenario is a new CME event altogether that fires off before AR3664 departs, but still geoeffective enough to hit us. In order for this scenario to take place, nothing short of an X10, and probably higher, would be needed to even remotely approach those kind of levels. In short, the risk for this type of thing in general is rapidly shrinking. We still need to take the existing storm in the pipeline seriously, as it is quite rare, and has a wide range of outcomes, but overall I would say there is a 99.5% chance you are going to work on Monday.
What Next?
The possibility for an aurora sighting is rising if you live in the mid latitudes or possibly even lower this weekend. I will just tell you that personally, I am excited about this weekend. Observers at every level are going to have some amazing opportunities to not just possibly see the aurora, but to observe and learn in general. I am going to stay very plugged in during the storm if possible and learn as much as I can because events like this are rare and we will get to see it unfold in real time. Its quite possible that decades later, we will all talk about the great solar storm of May 2024 and our experience so I intend to make it as meaningful as possible. I will be on the lookout for any danger or concerns and will continue updating through the weekend.
Speaking of the aurora. I am going to post an image of the potential ranges of the auroras corresponding to the different Kp levels. Before I do that, I am also going to tell you that its outdated and inaccurate, because the aurora is sighted below these boundaries during much weaker events on a fairly regular basis, but thats a topic for another day on our magnetic field. For now, we focus on whats immediately in front of us.

As mentioned, there are some new active regions that will be rotating into view. I have been watching them using the limited farside tools out there, and it does appear that one group in particular is growing in size and complexity. I do believe that this particular group of sunspots have made several rotations and have been responsible for some big flares including X-Class, but I cant confirm that until they actually come back into view. They are circled in red below.
Sun Farside
Long after this event comes and goes, I will be right here, watching and learning and sharing everything I can. We will be doing a full post mortem on this particular event and I look forward to incorporating the new discoveries in my understanding and maybe even yours as well. I will see you in the morning with an update.
Also, make sure to take care of yourself during all of this. There are no shortage of existential threats facing us it would seem, and beyond that, most people I know have something or another they are struggling with in their personal life. I know I certainly do. The sun has a powerful effect on us, and everything else on this planet, and in this solar system, and even a little beyond that. The links between solar activity and the mental and physical health of humans is not well understood or defined, but it definitely exists. The way I understand it, and this is my own personal view, is that solar activity as well as other similar processes like the Schumann Resonance have a constant effect on us. However, having an effect is not the same as dictating terms. I think the sun amplifies existing energies within us, either positive or negative. If you have mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar, etc, the energy flux could amplify it, especially if you are not aware that it can. I think the best course of action is to simply be and think positive. The sun is light and life itself. Lean into it, not away from it. I have learned in life that there is truly something to the art of “manifesting”. Manifest good things, good energy and good feelings, and try to keep the bad in perspective.
And keep in mind that this is a totally natural process. If the Carrington Event 2.0 happens tomorrow, and causes massive devastation of our electrical, network, and critical infrastructure and it leads to a civilization collapse, just remember that a remote tribe in the amazon rainforest or somewhere similar will hardly even know anything happened. It's not the sun that is the problem, it’s our reliance on technology and modern convenience.
Special thanks to everyone who has interacted with these posts and joined solarmax. It was a tiny respectable community of 300 people or so, but has nearly doubled in the past 24 hours. I am touched beyond words and am grateful for every comment and word of encouragement. To the regulars, you guys rock.
