2024.05.14 05:56 VendrellPullo I watched the Netflix Show & the Tencent show & read books 2 and 3. Here is my take on all
I added the spoiler tag for safety for others but will try to avoid specifics as far as possible
Full disclosure - I am a native English speaker based in the US. Watched the Tencent show on subtitles
TV show comparison —
both of them are loosely based on book 1, but after reading book 2/3 realized Netflix show lifted portions of book 2 and 3 as well although they don’t make a big diff at this point in the story where we are at
The Tencent show is lengthy and drags often but by the end of it, you feel a lot more connected to the story than the Netflix show
Especially the character of wang Miao and Da Shi — they work a lot better in the Chinese show and I found myself really rooting for wang Miao by the end of the Tencent show, the actor who plays him captures the spirit and demeanor of a relatively young scientist really well
In contrast, none of the Netflix characters connect - they are glossy, polished and artificial. The only one which stood out really was wade and maybe will
The Tencent show crams a lot into its 30 episodes and the world building and discussion of science is more natural and detailed versus the pop quiz / culture treatment of Netflix
However the production quality or Tencent is relatively poor - and while i watched it on Amazon prime, I don’t know if they made a proper 4 k version. The quality of CGI and characters faces in the 3 body game felt so dated like 90s video games - Netflix was better in this regard
Now the books —
Nothing much I can say that will add to what many veterans and commentators have already added but I will say this —
the author does a beautiful job w the “science reveals” and this is where he shines the best, lot more so than character descriptions or narration. I found myself skipping pages where there wasn’t much going on in terms of forward progress (like the old guy who owns a mine) and L J ‘s dream girl fantasies
Maybe because it was written like almost two decades ago — the authors sensibilities seem dated — in particular he takes a really dim view of men who are in touch w their feminine side and keeps harping on it again and again when he describes future earth. I get it he wants “manly men” to be in charge but could he be any more overt about it lol
Overall probably among the best in terms of hard science fiction — atleast until the last portion (say last 1/3) of book 3 when it starts to really get gimmicky and veers into total fantasy type stuff
I am really looking forward to what Tencent does w books 2 and 3

First I need to say that my mom has said that there was poop on her bedroom floor as well so it isn’t exclusively the tub. But it’s been the tub twice in a row and I’m really confused.
My cat is about 15 years old and is healthy (according to our last vet visit. We can’t afford to go all the time but our most recent visit I believe was a year and a half ago where the only issue she had (dental) was somehow resolved..?) however she’s suddenly started pooping in my bath tub. First time was at the far end of the tub, the second time was right at the drain. This cat is mainly indoors but she occasionally goes outside. She used to be fat, but after a trip that we went on in august of 2022 where we had to put the cats at a kitty hotel, she lost a bit of weight and is now just.. small. Not skinny but she’s definitely lost a bit of weight. Sometimes she will barge into my bathroom while I’m in there myself and “harass” (meow a lot) me.
We have another cat though who’s about 13, and goes outside a lot but sometimes is indoors sleeping all day. She has pooped on my parents bathroom floor, but only if they don’t let her outside in the morning at like 6-7 AM. She never goes in my bathroom. Ever.
The poop itself… TMI but it’s very necessary to mention… my mom says it feels hard, like it isn’t fresh. Not sure what it felt like to my dad when he cleaned it up from my tub last week. To me, today, it felt like spongey… like a hard sponge where you can sort of squish it but it’ll bounce back into initial formation. It is normal colored (brown) but left a greenish imprint on the paper towel when I picked it up.
We aren’t concerned for their health but are really confused by the pooping. They’ve never acted out like this before and we DONT know which cat is pooping in the tub or on the floor. My moms convinced it’s my cat but my dad is thinking it’s our other one. Both cats seem healthy. I don’t know what to do.

 | Hi all! I wanted to ask if anyone else's ACD/ACD mixes get ingrown hairs? I adopted a cattle dog mix about 3.5 months ago and I think she has gotten 2 ingrown hairs so far. One was on her belly after the shave for her spay, I was able to get that one out myself with a bit of work. Now, about a week and a half ago, it seemed like my pup had a small stye looking pimple on her eyelid. The bump on her eyelid is finally going away now and it looks like a small hair is poked out of the middle of it. I think it was an ingrown hair? I couldn't really mess with this one at all since it was on her lower eyelid. Has this ever happened to anyone else's ACDs? The interviewees from the Australian side in the clip (including lawyer) said they cannot assume every single target was just innocently targeted, but the primary issue (correctly) is abusing sovereignty. Famously some things intelligence apparatuses never do /s. Genuinely there would be greater trust if relations were not Cold War coded. The reporter is Echo Hui and some of her professional background as a journalist Some things to note: The former agent who speaks out (called Erik) was originally a member of (by the own reporter's admission) "was a member of a u.s-based pro-democracy organisation" known as the China Social Democratic Party (CSDP). In 2012 he depicts the CPC as an angler fish which has hyponitised a smaller fish, representing the people of China. Compares Xi to an Emperor, and compare's the death toll of Mao to Islamic State. In 2017 he joins Radio Free Asia (RFA), and is the sole contributor to the cartoons column. In 2018 he founds the Shanghai National Party, in New York. A national-conservative, secessionist movement. Organised and attended anti-china protests in the Queens alongside Falun Gong and Uygher-American Association. In 2018, the Shanghai National Party hosted a "Acceleration of Chinese Collapse" award ceremony in Times Square. 😐 During the Shanghai lockdowns in 2022, he claimed the quarantine methods were an attempt at genocide of the Shanghainese. These stories all reflected on the state of Chinese society at this time and included:
- A man and his dog who could talk, they view a rape scene unfolding out their window and the dog speaks ill of mankind
- A teenage girl who doesn't wear a bra realize the societal implications, is heckled for it by friends, family, and neighbors, loses it and ends up streaking.
- A man who under the one child policy, had a first daughter born with a developmental issue and this was allowed to have a second child, who was also a girl. He begins trying to abandon her, but ends up retrieving her whenever passerbys notice her.

Okay, I know nothing about Cantonese other than: it is the second official Chinese language of the Han natives (I think?); it was once one of the "prestigious" of the Chinese languages at one point in time before standard mandarin; it uses the same script as Modern Chinese standard Mandarin (afaik); and it like most languages in china, besides mandarin, are dying out there from what I have read and a few posts here imply.

- In Jyut[-]ping, it shows all words are cut up into sort of choppy things in romanization, and have a small number behind them. What is this for and can a word Romanized in Cantonese removed the numbers and shoved together (if it is being used for one word) and a Cantonese person who speaks & reads English get the general idea or know what the person is trying to say with it?
- Since I don't know whether wiki info is accurate or not, I want to make sure; but how would you write the Jyutping spelling of this 遊俠, and in English (as that is one language I know) how would a English speaker know how to pronounce it in Cantonese perfectly? Like, if I showed someone, and they asked "how do you pronounce this word?" I would answer by saying "[insert what I would say to them]" and that's what I need to know.
- What does the word "遊俠" actually mean? Like in a tdlr one "simple" sentence [basically simple sentence structure for those who know English grammar & syntax] description, can someone tell me what it means? I don't trust non-Chinese websites, and most of those non-Chinese seem to either sort of get something similar in a long winded def, or very different in a short winded breath.

The People's Power Armor -I'm aware the canonicity of the Communist Power Armor is dubious at best but its 1, discussed in the fallout bible, something Bethesda pulls from a lot. And 2, has a skin in fallout 76 THAT IS USED in the game by a chinese commissar.
Different Shades of Red -All of the things made by Americans on the list is just to show how Chinese technology takes from/inspires things from America, while writing this I have realized that I didn't take into account that some of the guns like the Mauser WERENT made in America so lets just pretend that the things that have an old glory red tint in their titles is foreign tech, not just American.
Warmachine -I put the warmachine and the chimera down despite them being most likely fabricated by America because they are still technically linked with the Chinese via America claiming they exist, now I'm 99% sure the chimera is Chinese propaganda and I'm pretty sure that the warmachine is a mix of depictions of the Chinese power armor and the Liberty Prime they were making this propaganda piece to drum up support for, its most likely fake.
Chinese Army Training Manual -I added the Chinese Army Training manual and the army uniforms because while they might not be technology they still give us insight of the innerworkings of China in the Fallout universe.
Hei Gui Stealth Suit MK I -I put two separate versions of the Hei Gui Stealth suit because I'm PRETTY sure that the stealth suits in Fallout New Vegas are old models, not just damaged suits (despite their terrible conditions they are stored in.) It would make sense if these suits were used to make the Stealth Suit series in the Big MT while the stealth boy suits actually have the invisibility tech that the most likely newer suits had.
Shanghai Type 37 -Now the elephant in the room, I know I put the 9mm SMG as Chinese made but the circumstantial evidence of Chinese probably infiltrating hoover damn, due to the aforementioned stealth suits. And there being stuff like the Chinese pistols and Chinese Assault Rifles in fallout 3 setting a president for Chinese weapons being common place. As well as the 9mm SMGs being chambered in 9mm instead of .45 like in fallout 2 leads me to believe that they are indeed a knockoff like the Chinese Pistol and Assault Rifle are. There's a really good reddit page about this in falloutlore that I'll link if anyone asks for that goes deeper into this but the Type 37 is a real Chinese knockoff of the grease gun chambered in 9mm so it would make sense for them to be the same fitting with the theme of copycat Chinese arms being commonplace in Fallout's America. Now why did I add "Shanghai" to the beginning of it? Well it was (I think) first created in Shanghai and since the Type 17 already has it's province where it was made at the beginning of it I though I might as well add the city where this one was made because I'm pretty sure Shanghai is in no province? I'm incredibly unelicited on this, which is one of the reasons I'm making this entire book long reddit post in the first place so please correct me if I'm wrong. So yeah that's why I did that.

There is strong debate between the effectiveness of planned economies and the cause of famines, with constant debate over if centralized planning was to blame, or exogenous causes such as weather.
Often, when a famine under communist occupation is brought up, a famine under capitalism is also brought up to argue that the famines were not man-made, or couldn’t have been handled better under capitalism.
The issue I take with this comparison is cause and effect, some famines can be mostly blamed on exogenous causes, others are mostly man-made. Most famines started from an outside force, the question is if capitalism/collectivization made it worse.

Before submitting a comment about an issue, the #1 thing any user should do when they first experience issues with a new update is to follow these troubleshooting steps.
If issues still persist despite the efforts made in this thread, report the issue to cricut.
Calibrate your machine right after an update as your calibration settings will not carry over into the latest update. Follow the advice of the calibration guide. Then do a test print then cut of your project using plain printer paper.
If for some reason after calibration your cuts are still inaccurate, clear cache (the troubleshooting guide above this) and try calibration again.
If you are experiencing issues despite clearing cache, please give some background information:
- Cricut machine (Joy, Joy Xtra, Explore Air 2, Explore air 3, Maker, Maker 3, etc.).
- Device (Windows 10, Window 11, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android).
- Type of project you were attempting to do. (Basic cut, print then cut, drawing, foiling, scoring, etc.)
- Were you successful in doing this project in the past? Or is this a new project?
What has changed (Desktop v8.30.64)? Update on May 6, 2024.
Fixed field issues: This release
Last 6 weeks:
- The ability to customize the Card project enables users to select specific sizes and personalize them according to their preferences.
- After disabling specific contours, the bounding box encloses the remaining ones within the Canvas.
- Images not uploading.
- Upon selecting, it appears that some of the ‘Make It Now’ projects in the Canvas have disappeared.
- Right-clicking and selecting “View image sets” from the Layers panel often displays irrelevant images.
Over the last 6 weeks we've fixed 74 software defects, including the following priority field issues and reliability concerns:
- Draw projects are being opened as cuts instead of drawings, resulting in a color change.
- The ability to customize the Card project enables users to select specific sizes and personalize them according to their preferences.
- After disabling specific contours, the bounding box encloses the remaining ones within the Canvas.
- Images not uploading.
- Upon selecting, it appears that some of the ‘Make It Now’ projects in the Canvas have disappeared.
- Right-clicking and selecting “View image sets” from the Layers panel often displays irrelevant images.
- Selecting certain fonts in the font selection process is causing delays in rendering on the Canvas
- The text box fails to load on the Canvas, and adding a text field in Chinese is not possible
- Changes made to the latest project are lost upon sharing.
- Save a project on iOS, then open it on desktop, and notice that the changes fail to appear.
-After completing the cut with Print Then Cut and Basic Cut operations attached, the mat remains unloaded.
- The Canvas tab disappears and it takes longer for the Canvas tab to load.
- The saved project only shows letters on the Canvas, but double-tapping the text box reveals the entire sentences.
- After finishing cutting the mat that's off-screen, the scrollbar scrolled back to the top instead of moving to the next mat.
- My Stuff doesn't show any projects, and the collection is displayed without a name.
- Follow button is not working on profile page
- Profile links that are copied and pasted shows Blank home page.
- Forever stuck on the project details page, with both the customize and make buttons greyed out.
- Print Then Cut images appear distorted or the print preview is not accurate
- Print Then Cut images did not appear correctly on the cut screen.
- The Print Then Cut quality warning message is preventing the user from proceeding to make it.
- Clicking "View All" on recent uploads either redirects to the Inspire/Discover page or results in the inability to access the full set of uploaded images.
- The Canvas performance drastically slows down when inserting high-quality uploaded images.
- The functionality of the automatic background remover has stopped working.
- Uploaded high-resolution images, those above 300 DPI, are displaying low-resolution warnings.
- When uploading an image with a resolution exceeding 300 DPI, it undergoes downsizing, accompanied by a low-resolution warning message for each uploaded image.
- The image icon that regulates the number of images per line remains unresponsive.
- The image loses focus when resized, and after hiding contour and resizing, it becomes impossible to move the image upward in the Canvas.
- There are performance issues with Warp, as it takes more than a second to enter edit mode and experiences lag when additional characters are entered. Additionally, after completing editing and clicking outside the box, there is a delay.
- There's no prompt to confirm unsaved changes, and the previous unsaved Canvas disappears without any notification to replace or save it.
- Using the keyboard shortcut cmd + shift + left arrow key to highlight everything results in improper rendering of the highlight.
- When opening Image Sets, the images load closely together, and the Image Set name tile appears misplaced, positioned between the top and second row instead of the first row.
- When performing combine, subtract, intersect, or exclude operations and attaching them, the color or operations remains unchangeable.
- Upon launching the app, users encounter a white screen, a continuous spinner, and a missing refresh token.
- Even after power cycling and setting the load to go, the -18 machine connection error continues to persist
- When hovering over the mat control multiple times, the mat preview fails to appear.
- When toggling the mirror function, the mat selection jumps, causing the left side to scroll back to the top.
- Cannot remove images from a collection
- Completing the product setup for a second time with a different machine leads to going to the "Get Started" page without setting the correct machine type.
- The "Get Started" page on the left rail and the pointer finger suggest that there's a reason to click there.
- It's not possible to unlike projects, and an error message stating "unable to remove likes" is displayed.
- The bookmark icon fails to switch to "bookmarked" for image sets
- The private profile message fails to display, and opening a project link leads to an empty Canvas without the project
- The shared profile links are incomplete, leading to the home page instead of directing to the profile
- Card Mat - If users attempt to make or customize without selecting a finished size, they will be prompted with the error message, "Select a Finished Size to continue
- When adding a photo to the Project details, it's observed that the image is zoomed in excessively, making it impossible to zoom out sufficiently to display the entire photo.
- It is not possible to cancel a full-page Print Then Cut project from the Mat Prepare screen.
-Performing a second search after the initial one yields no results
-Attempting to open a project with numerous sticker groups results in the Canvas displaying a perpetual spinner, rendering the project inaccessible.
-Loading stickers with multi-layered complex projects from project details takes considerable time to customize or make, typically ranging from 5 to 7 minutes.
- The custom border feature fails to function properly with complex shapes and does not create sticker-cut interior shapes combinations as intended.
- The Offset function fails to work with intricate PNGs for creating sticker-cut interior shapes combinations, and the Apply button remains disabled, accompanied by a continuous green bar.
- When deleting a Warp within a sticker group, the border is not redrawn.
- When resizing the sticker image using the Kiss cut & Die-cut Edge option, the image vanishes from the Canvas.
- After ungrouping and regrouping the text, the font toolbar is unavailable for the group.
- Apostrophes and quotes fail to transform into their left-right variants, causing coded single and double quote marks to appear instead of the anticipated left and right variants.
- Text is positioned closer to the bottom right corner, resulting in incorrect text placement after opening a new Canvas and adding new text
- When using the delete button on the laptop to erase text, it becomes evident that the undo and redo functions are not operating correctly.
- After changing a color or moving an image, the undo feature fails to function.
- Users have the ability to delete uploaded images when using new Image Inspiration designs.
- When attempting to upload an image, a message indicating "unable to upload image" is displayed, prompting users to check their internet connection.
- The learning plan redirects to the Canvas instead of remaining on the home page.
- When the uploaded image is added to the Canvas, it displays an image load failure.

About a month ago I literally went through every single community server, empty/full/whatever, and added any that sounded interesting, and didn't have crazy ping to Favorites (I'm in North east US- NJ, US FYI). There are still a bunch of good ones out there (I've also had many solid ones in my favs for quite some time).

The EU one fills up most of the time, and I deal with the ping because it's a cool community (it even runs a battle royale mode that is surprisingly well-made). I'd recommend downloading their asset pack here as it's fairly sizeable (but worth it):

Southern Cross Gaming (Rainbow Swirl in particular) - Stumbled across this & played 1 round with these guys running a cool custom mode but apparently they run stock maps as well as custom maps/game modes. Their rules had a huge emphasis on keeping it fun & being respectful and everyone seemed really cool & laidback. It was full at peak time on the weekend. They also have other servers, even in other games & seem to have been around awhile:

A really solid rebalancing of all weapons in-game. Nothing really feels overpowered or underpowered anymore, also fun things like flames stay on surfaces & I think spy or engy can radar enemies within a few feet or something to his team? It's really fun and gets full. Here's the site with IPs and stuff (The US server gets full around peak time, esp. on weekends)

Believe it or not it's still very fun with little people but it's gotten pretty packed a couple times. It also has like every good custom arena map, and scrambles if a team wins 3 in a row. They also run Instant Respawn and on any other map I hate that setting with a searing passion but because it's reworked as TDM I feel it actually improves the gameplay (put "high tower" including the space, and without quotes in the search box for a list of 'em in the following link):

I have been to Macedonia once and I am planning to go again, and I know there’s a lot of strays there. I want to take one. I live in Germany and will be traveling by plane. I plan on getting a cat, but besides the pet passport what else is needed to bring a Macedonian cat to Germany? I only have a German passport, would it be a problem for the pet passport?
