I'm in need of some advice regarding my current marital situation and the potential sale of our home. To give you the full picture, I'll start from the beginning. Apologies for the length, but I feel all the details are necessary to understand the context.
I (29F) met my husband (40M) on Tinder four years ago. We dated for about eight months when my family had an opportunity to purchase a property. My then-boyfriend was also looking to be involved in a business deal of that sort, and he was interested in having his name on the property as well. My father supported this, seeing as how my boyfriend was a physician with a good income, and saw this as a way to bring him closer to our family. The opportunity came quickly, and we all signed the contract to purchase the house.
Trouble began shortly after this. My boyfriend requested that only he and I be on the title of the house, removing the rest of my family, as he saw a future with us and envisioned it as our potential family home. My father was very pleased to hear this and supported it, so we obliged. During this time, the property had increased in value, and I requested the other family members be paid off so we could buy out their shares. My boyfriend declined, feeling it was unfair.
To skim over some details, here are the highlights of the construction: My boyfriend paid more for the down payment than we initially realized would be required. Because of this, he paid no further construction costs. The construction proceeded with debt from my family until the construction loans came through. My family paid for the construction, and my father built the house for us without charging for his management services. My father was displeased with my boyfriend’s behavior and required him to pay more money for the construction due to inflation and the COVID shutdown. Meanwhile, during all this time, I had my baby, and my husband and I were still fighting more than ever. I felt no support from him, and he felt drained by his work, our fights, and being away from his family. Recently, for the past three months, he has been consistently pushing for the sale of our house. This is where my dilemma lies. I am afraid to sell this house because my husband has kept finances separate, and the mortgage on this house has been serving as a way for me to feel secure. My husband contributes a monthly amount on a regular basis. He could have forced a sale in the past but didn’t, instead paying into the monthly mortgage on top of other bills. Now, he is considering forcing the sale of our house, but I am upset that he is citing financing as the issue when I have been begging him to save money instead of spending (his response is that $200,000 does not affect a $2M mortgage, and that he now feels burnt out and wants to retire sooner and live passively). If I don’t agree to sell, I feel unstable about moving from our home given that my husband and I fight so frequently, and I am left alone to take care of the child. I am sad that my husband will not consider keeping this house for another three years so that I can get comfortable with the idea of selling the house and that potentially I and my family can all move to Ottawa so that we can allow my husband to be closer to his family.
I don’t know what to do at this point, Reddit. I’m currently on extended maternity leave, but it ends in six months. My husband and I will have to come to an agreement about the house, otherwise, it is likely that he will force the sale of the house even if I’m not ready to move. I’ve consistently felt rushed and overlooked in this relationship. I am tired of being the small voice that does not impact decision-making. My husband is now being nice to me and trying to show me a good time, but I see it as him turning on his charming mode so that I can say yes to the sale of this house. I’m not sure what to do. I have been trying to call into the show but have no luck getting through so turning to Reddit and Facebook for advice.
My wife and I are debt free. I am 32, she is 37. I have a job where I make $230,000 per year and she makes $60,000 for a household income of $290,000. We have $80,000 saved up and are adding about $7,500 per month to savings after living expenses and taxes (50%).
We currently rent a two bedroom condo in Vancouver, BC for $3,600/mo but got notice that our landlord is selling at the end of September. At that point we would have about $130,000 in savings.
Before asking my question, I want to preface it by noting that my job security is extremely unstable. I work in an industry (forecasting analysis and media) where my job is dependent on my audience and my audience attention is directly tied to performance of my predictions. It's competitive and everyone is always one bad year away from becoming far less valuable.
I am looking for advice on our best path forward. The options I see are...

1. Continue to rent in the $3,500 - $4,000 range where we are comfortable, live in an area we love and not be tied down to a home. Save as much as possible for as long as we rent. Invest the $7,500 a month in mutual funds. If work holds steady until I am 40 and wife is 45, we would live where we enjoy the country the most and have $1M in investments at 6% return.
2. Buy a condo in the area. There are options in the spot we like at the $900,000 mark, which would put us around $5,200/mo at current rates at 25 years. I know Dave recommends the 15 year fixed, I honestly can't find one in Canada with lenders (advice here is welcomed too). That would put us around $7,000/mo if we can get a 15.
3. Move to another area (Saskatchewan where I am from) and buy a detached house with a yard for $400,000. Wife and I are not opposed to this, I have family there, we would have friends, but we would be back in winter for 6 months a year (which we moved here to avoid).

Everything I read around me pushes me towards buying a home and that would be exciting. I do feel like the stress and emotional turmoil of getting one, feeling like the place is home and god forbid having something happen to the job and not being able to recreate the income would be a disaster. If we buy and I lose this job, there is no way we can afford to live in BC. Saskatchewan would be much more realistic. The chance of that happening in the next 3-5 years is probably 15-20%. The other 75-80% would be that income increases in which case it's a dream to own a home where we are in BC and not that stressful at all. I don't know if it is worth the risk?
On the other hand there is huge risk that comes with investment. The idea of having $1M in investments at 40 with no debt is amazing, but I am the last person on earth to know where the market is going to be 10-15-20 years from now.
I don't know what to do here! What's your take?

Howdy, allow me to explain my situation.
So I am looking to get into sim racing with a DD wheel/base, I already have a fairly robust PC set up I've been using for other games (RTX 4080, 5900x, 32gb ram, triple monitors etc.) that I've built up over the years and I'm currently brand new to this space (Not in any current eco system and would likely clamp my set up to my desk).
I also own a PS5 and grew up playing a few of the GT games, namely GT3 and have been eyeing GT7 for quite some time now and while I understand it's not the same GT game I remember so fondly by all accounts it still seems like a decent game.
Where I'm faced with a dilemma is that as far as I can tell in my research the only 2 DD bases that work with a PC and PS5 (natively) are Fanatec CS DD+/DD Pro and the Logi G Pro. I also know Fanatec are currently going through a lot of customer service issues (along with the fact it seems like they're bankrupt and Corsair are buying them). Not to mention that where I live (Canada) it is MUCH easier to get the Logi G Pro.
So if I want to play GT7 or any future console only wheel supported games I'm stuck with the G Pro. HOWEVER, If I forgo the PS support then I will have other options that have a much greater ecosystem and potentially better products (Moza, Simagic, etc.).
What I'm wondering is do people think GT7 is worth playing with a DD Wheel/base or should I skip GT7 and stick with PC only? I don't really want to use one of the 3rd party devices to make a Moza or other base work as I've heard a number of issues with input lag.
Edit: To add I am looking to also play more in formula style cars (iRacing, RF2, F1), so I know anyone outside of Logi will have more options

Would love to add more links, search terms and shopping service recs to this post! I am NA-based so anything specific to other countries highly appreciated.
Taobao is a Chinese marketplace-style website. Seeing as it is in Chinese and you need to use Chinese search terms and a shopping service, the learning curve is fairly steep compared to a lot of online shopping. I've been shopping on Taobao for 10 years, so here is my best attempt at helping you learn how. I live in Canada, so for those with experience specific to non-NA countries please let me know and I can add more info on that.
I use Chrome to browse Taobao, because it can automatically translate into English. I'll also have Google Translate open in a tab set to 'Chinese Simplified'. You WILL need to make a Taobao account in order to browse the site (they've gotten worse about this, you may find that you need to log back in if you leave your computer idle for too long). I believe you need your phone to scan a QR code for this. Now, you can go ahead and type your search term into Google Translate, copy and paste into the Taobao search bar, and you're ready to go. Taobao is also great at suggesting search terms (if you paste 'lolita', it'll offer you searches for lolita shoes, headwear, dresses etc)
I personally ctrl+click anything I want to see to open it in a new tab so I can compare as I go!
When you're looking at a listing there's a few things you should look at. - The price is in Chinese yuan. Usually my browser puts my local currency underneath it, but if that's not the case keep that in mind and use a currency converter. - In the top lefthand corner is the shop name and under it is the rating. The rating system is 1-5 hearts, then 1-5 diamonds, then silver crowns, then gold crowns. Diamonds and silver crowns are most common, this part seems largely based on number of sales. Be a little wary of stores with hearts - sometimes they're just new, or small handmade stores, but they're often poor quality/scammy. - Next to that, across the top bar, are 3 numbers that are usually 4.something. This is the rating customers have given the store. Anything under 4.6 is for sure pretty bad. - The right hand side of the bar has an 'enter the shop' button you can use to look at other stuff in the store
Make sure you look at the pictures in the listing. Ideally, they will be high quality and unique pictures, a nice set of them that shows images of all angles and details of the product. If you're searching around comparing different listings, you will notice a lot of them steal photos or use the same photos. These tend to be the listings you get a mass-produced, low quality product from... not always wish/temu quality, but often! Sometimes it's worth the risk, sometimes it isn't. You'll also start to notice a sort of 'floor' to the price/quality of various item types. If something is suspiciously cheap, there's usually a reason. 5$ wigs and 20$ JSKs are not going to be good, but 10-15$ wigs and 50-60$ JSKs are generally going to be nice, and if you spend 30 on a wig or 80-100 on a dress, you'll usually be really impressed with the quality.
A few more tips when picking out items: - You will need to pay domestic shipping to the shopping service, it's about 2$ but adds up if you're buying a lot of small items from different shops. Always check out the shop and see if there's anything else you'd like, especially if you're looking for a generic item. - Some items are preordedownpayment. Check with your shopping service to find out how they want these done if you'd like one, and make sure you find the 'final price' (usually listed near the top of the description) - The easiest way to browse stores is often clicking 'view all baby' which is 'all products'. - Most shopping services won't buy things with magnets, batteries or liquids. Some will, but will only ship them through the most expensive shipping methods, so be aware of that! They're also a bit weird about electronics and wooden items. - In case you're looking at cosplay stuff, prop weapons WILL be seized by customs! - Most clothing items include a measurement chart. It's in cm, and I usually use google translate on my phone to translate the photo (though admittedly I can recognize the character for bust measurement in context, by now lol). Shoe sizes are Chinese sizes, look up a comparison chart to find your size! - Really heavy things will be expensive to ship. - Some items are made to order and will take a lot longer to send to your shopping service. It will usually say it somewhere on the listing.
Once you know what you'd like to buy, it's time for the shopping service. I use Yoybuy, I find it trustworthy and easy to use. There's other good services, but I can't personally vouch for them. With Yoybuy, you simply paste the URL of the item you want into the search bar, and it loads up for you to add to your cart with the same options it had on Taobao. Fill your cart with your items and pay when you're ready. The order will then go through to purchasing, where you can watch and see when each item is successfully bought and shipped. Any issues with the purchasing/items in general will pop up in a chat next to the item, such as clarifying a colour option or telling you a size is out of stock. If you're in NA, all of the action is going to happen overnight. Some things will arrive in 1 or 2 days, some might take up to 2 weeks. Once your items arrive at the service, select them and submit them for shipping. You'll be able to pick from a variety of shipping services with a variety of price points and arrival times.
Shopping service tips: - Shopping services have a service fee. It's usually a percent of what you spend. Back when I started shopping, the ones with the lowest fees were usually difficult to use and/or had bad service, but ymmv. Generally speaking you pay the fee at the time of shipping. - Some services offer photos of items if you need them verified for some reason. They usually charge for this, but it is worth it if you're paranoid about a high ticket item. - Many services allow payment through Paypal, but Paypal is VERY picky about 'sensitive' or 'counterfeit' items. I literally have no idea what flags a lot of these items as sensitive, it seems at complete random to me. I recommend credit card for this reason - though I've heard some of the wire transfer services are preferable in other countries, and I've seen those widely accepted too. - Some shops on Taobao will ship internationally with no shopping service. It's my understanding that this isn't all shops, nor is it all countries they ship to, and they may not have representatives that speak any English, which you may or may not need. You can look into it if you only want things from one shop, but imo it's a lot more trouble than it's worth for people in Canada and the US.
Shipping tips: - It's hard to estimate shipping... freight/SAL used to be approximately 10usd/kg, but I'm pretty sure it's gone up. It will be expensive, but depending on the type of item it isn't that bad. I believe 30$ is the absolute minimum for China to NA. Some of the shipping services also do dimensional weight, so any bulky or long items will throw it off. I presume the shipping services available also depend on country. - Generally speaking, package insurance is optional. I've never lost a package, but I did have one disappear for a bit and I had one water damaged one. Insurance is under 20$ in my experience. - You will need to pick the value you're declaring the package for. I consistently under declare and have never had problems, but I try to keep it reasonable-ish. A 10kg box that's marked as worth 50usd is probably suspicious. - If you want to use SAL it's going to take at least 2 weeks, and it's really inconsistent. So definitely don't use it if you need anything for a certain date. - If you bought anything with liquids, magnets, electronics etc; separate them out and send less items with them. The shipping methods that accept them will be super expensive for anything with significant weight. Some countries may not allow import of these items at all.

Has anyone else’s local store become exclusively clearance? It’s very strange, I went into my local stores and the entire thing was filled with clearance. I asked the staff and they said the store was permanently only clearance. Has this happened to anyone else?
I’m really disappointed since I live in Canada and shipping is expensive. I fit in size 0-1 now and the selection of clearance is slim. The manager mentioned that they’ll never have a large selection of those sizes because they are the most popular and usually sell at regular price. I don’t know where I’ll shop from now on. I don’t really fit well in the non-plus sized store that carry L-XL. Not to mention they were my favourite jean place and I’m not risking buying those online.

Afternoon Canadian Redditor’s,
I’m looking for some advice on the purchase/financing of a used vehicle here in Canada.
I currently live in Ontario and Ive been using public transport at around $20 a week for passes for the past 6-8 months.
However, I’m now wanting to purchase a vehicle to make life a little easier in regards to transport/access to things in my area of the province. (Note I’m not in a big big city like Toronto so I don’t have as much option)
I’m currently at around 5-7k saved up for a down payment. I know for many people that’s not enough and I’ll probably get laughed at, but I’m not a rich man, I make fairly good money but moving country’s isn’t cheap so hence the slow saving start.
My main questions are:

1. What would you recommend for a down payment for a vehicle sitting around 18-25k in value
   
2. I’ve been advised to look for cars under 100km if possible, however 100-120k is okay if it’s better suited to my budget
   
3. Any offers or ways to reduce my overall nightmare experience with working with these car dealerships?
   
4. Any recommendations on good insurance companies. Obviously I’ll have to check around once the time comes where I know which vehicle I want however some names would be good
   
5. Any other tips. I can’t afford major major high bi-weekly payments or anything monthly over $500 or I’ll be homeless lol.
   

Seems to be a major problem at the moment where even the worst upkept cars are being sold (wtf are buying these things) for over $15,000 when they are in-reality worth just under $5000 scrap.

im a phd student (canada) and am entering what i think is my third..? year of grad school in less than a month. i feel like im at a point where i like what i do, i have a great work-life balance, and i finish my work pretty quickly too. i used to have problems with my time management and always felt tired and overworked, but i came up with a new time management schedule in the past couple of months that has helped me a lot:
-#1: i work in person 4 days a week, and i work at home one day a week (preferably near the end of the week). i am a STEM student so my in-person days are either data collection days in the lab or lab prep days. the work from home day is for data analysis, meeting prep, planning, and lit review.
-#2: i stopped working on the weekends almost completely. the exception is light data entry or lit review for a meeting prep but i no longer do lab work or heavy data analysis on the weekend. i plan ahead so i dont have to.
-#3: i began recording the exact number of hours i work each day and i tally it up at the end of the week. i only include hours i am geniunely working … breaks to snack or talk or go on my phone are not included. neither is physically being on campus included. if im reading, typing, taking pictures on a microscope, setting up lab materials, collecting data, or in a meeting, that counts.
the problem is, now i feel like my life is so chill LOL. i know i should be counting my blessings but i feel like a bit of an imposter or a fake phd student. ive been sitting at home all day today and have done no work but i honestly dont have to. i dont have any lab work to do; i already set everything up for my experiment tomorrow. i have a lot of lit review and data collection and analysis and comparison completed for this point in my study so i feel like i dont need to stress to write or go do more. my project is also such that i am getting a lot of data points, significantly quicker than my peers. i should be done my data collection in the third year of my phd. i can afford to take it chill right now. but i feel like im doing something wrong.
i always read about grad students who work 40 hours a week but i work like 20-25. my supervisor and industry partner are happy with me and everyone in my research group says i work the most. even the industry partner employees think i work a lot. but im geniunley chilling at home or sleeping or watching tv or reading or buying groceries so much of the work day. i try to work fast when im at school so i can go home early and then i just come home and chill. i’ll still respond to emails but im never really working.
i dont know, i guess im wondering, does anyone else ever feel this? i guess i also feel guilty because i do feel very stressed at some times and the work does get very tiresome at times but in general i like what i do and am not in a bad situation, while my siblings have to work a lot and i feel like when i complain, its just stupid lol. i know a phd is super hard and a lot of people have to work so much. but i feel like im not working enough. maybe i just lucked out on my supervisor or my project? or am i really not working enough?

I live in Vermont and travel to Canada often for business, and it sucks relying on Wifi to use my phone. I have Straight Talk (CDMA phone). As far as I can see, even if I had a GSM phone, I still won't be able to get it to work in Canada.
Looking for an option where it will work north of the border occasionally. I'm even fine switching providers if need be.
Canada is the most important, but I do occasionally find myself going to Europe, so if there's a plan that works there, that'd be awesome.
Wondering if there is an option to only buy an international plan when I need it? I'm only traveling maybe once every few months.

I recently picked up a Bosch EasyAquatak 1700 to clean my siding, some pavers, etc and it's worked out quite well. The problem I've encountered is I'd like to buy a foam cannon to wash my car as well and it seems the Bosch proprietary connector will be a problem.
Looking on Amazon I can't seem to find the right adapter to use third party foam cannons, nozzles, etc that use a standard 1/4" quick connect.
Where could I find something to make these additional parts compatible? I'm in Canada if it helps.

I am relatively new to investing so I am hoping to get your feedback. I did a deep dive into $YOU as sort of a practice run so I get more acclimated to the value investing landscape. YOU is particularly interesting to me because it is a simple business, which as a newbie, is important because I can easily gauge its strengths and weaknesses. It has easily identifiable green and red flags.
$YOU is CLEAR which is basically a service where you pay $189 a year to skip the TSA line at the airport to get to the bag-screening portion. With Amex platinum and other various products you get CLEAR membership free or discounted.
YOU management has plans to offer other vertical products as they are an identity verification service. You might've seen their identity verification using Linkedin. They are also trying to break into medical, sports arenas, and enterprise account recovery. Personally I only see value in the latter. They also mentioned possible upsells at the airport like holding your bags. I think that is nonsense.
Green flags:

• They generate a 33% FCF margin
• Their growth potential is relatively large
• There are other valid applications of their product that they may be able to capitalize on
• They choose strategic locations to open new locations to strengthen their network.
• They are looking to expand in Canada and Mexico.
• They are shareholder friendly (dividends and buy backs)
• They operate in a town that can only support one business. I think it is extremely unlikely for newcomers to enter the market.

Red flags

• They are one regulation away from being in financial ruin. Calfifornia legislators floated banning CLEAR.
• They are one mistake away from being in financial ruin. Imagine a scenario where a potential terrorist gets through their security. Although they still have to pass TSA, this risk may be limited.
• Their shares are extremely diluted approx 146m
• Expanding to scountries may be overly optimistic (what sane government wants a US company to have their citizen's biometrics?
• Limited growth prospects. I know I listed their growth as a pro, but the con side is that there is a ceiling to who can enroll. Think like six flags. If everyone has a flash pass, nobody has a flash pass. You need people to be in the slow line for the fast line to add value. Notwithstanding, there is room to sign up significantly more people and expand locations.
• A significant portion of their revenues depend on partners like AMEX.

They currently have 6.8 million clear plus members. Approx 49% of Americans reported taking a commercial flight in the past year. I would guestimate that at least 30% of those people take 3 round trip flights or more a year. That leaves a population pool of 44.6 million people whom CLEAR might be an appealing service to (provided they are available where those people are traveling).
Based on their core business, my DCF (based on FCF) of 30% annual growth of 6 years will return $15.98 of value to shareholders and they will achieve 19.4 million paid members. I used a 11% discount rate.
My EPV analysis found that they are worth $3.16 a share with growth factored in.
Obviously not financial advise. I am curious what you might think of the company.

Background: My family and I used to live in Las Piñas, but then my father got assigned here. (He works in a specific government agency.) I still remember the day we first went to this province, we had our vacation here, also intent on scouting the new house my father bought. It was mid 7 out of 10, but we loved it because it was in the city, and the commute was not a drag.
I studied here for my 9th and 10th grade, then my mother got accepted in Canada for an admin job, so we left. We have just returned after 4 years and damn was I shocked.
Traffic: Holy fuckin shit, from the new airport, which by the way, was also a shocker, we spent atleast 40 minutes in transit because turns out, tricycles were banned from the national roads. (Whatever the fuck that means.) Yes, we do own a car, BUT, the car was left inside our garage, basically rotting for years, soooooo, you know how it is, plus we could have ridden a taxi, but nooooo, my father, being a nationalistic person as he is, convinced us to ride a tricycle because "They were the backbone of the Palaweño tourism back in the day.". (W Dad) We went through a small road passing by a hospital, and noticed that The Legend Hotel was looking kinda ugly, so I diligently asked the driver what happened, if this was a new theme, but then he told me that they went bankrupt. (Goodbye to my birthday parties memories ig) Then, we turned left into a long curvy road, where it lead us to Tiniguiban. (I know Tiniguiban because we live there lol). As we were traveling, I saw buildings from areas where trees used to blossom. Seriously, what happened to all that "The Last Frontier" bullshit.
People's General Mannerism: I don't know if it's the culture shock or something but I found a lot of the locals rude, I asked one "officer-looking" guy where the proper terminal for the jeepney was, and he said "Dun sa dulo, nakikita mo namang maraming tao dun e". Then when I was in Robinson, I asked a security guard where Watson's was and he just pointed to the escalator. "Second floor." PRICES, THE FOOOOKIN PRICES! Do they think everyone in Palawan are tourists?
