This is a place to challenge the narrative. All thoughts are welcome. You should probably like to debate with people who have different views then you. This is not a circle jerk or an echo chamber I won't ban anyone or any ideas. I don't care every idea is valid here. So don't take anything too serious and enjoy. Also feel free to upload links or videos that support your opinion This is new::: Maybe for every thing you discuss try to present both sides. the pros and the cons. etc.

Space Weather Update - 5/15/2024 - Short to Medium Range Forecast & Observations - Article Teaser
Good morning everyone, AcA here and I have a brief (haha) update for you this morning. I felt it was pressing to give everyone an idea of what I am seeing and feeling headed into the next epoch of space weather. What a ride AR3663/3664 were? Long before most of you showed up for the biggest storm in decades, AR3663 was trying to get there, only to be usurped by AR3664 stealing the show. Well AR3664 has now departed, and the sunspot situation is complex, but not as intense as before it left. There are certainly more spots and active regions, but we are missing one with significant complexity and size like AR3664. As a result, we can probably expect a quieter stretch of space...
Something wild just happened. Something that has happened numerous times since I have started this. Call it stupid, tell me I am ate up, call it woo woo, I don't care. I don't call it anything, I juste note its occurence. As I am writing this brief little snippet, X-Ray spikes, and topped out at X2.99. For the last 10 days, when I have seen magnitudes like that, I automatically go to AR3664, or went to I should say, but AR3664 is gone...so what AR is responsible? I can barely see the leading edge of the plage, but it must be respectable.
That is the beauty. Nobody knows. It is not visible and as a result has not received a numeral yet and we have zero real idea of what it looks like. However, we can extract 3 key details from this information.
    • The sun is still very active - X flaring continued overnight with an X3.3 overnight and this most recent X2.99~ from a new contender.
    • Something imposing is hiding behind the limb, and will be rotating into view, and appears that it will be X capable off jump street.
    • The flare topped out at X2.99, but based on the signature, I would not be surprised if the actual flare magnitude is north of that. THis often happens when flares occur so far on the limb they are occulted by the sun. It affects our probes ability to measure it.
    • The radio emission from this flare was over 1000 km/s. Wowzers

Buckle up folks. Now hopefully you have got the drift. There is no certainty here. I think many people are forgetting one key fact about this game. Its comprised of two words. Space & Weather. Space suggests its distant, massive, and on scales far bigger than a human. Weather suggests its an interconnected and dynamic system of more variables than we can track or understand. Our brightest minds, best models, and best computers, cannot tell you with any high degree of certainty whether it will storm 5-7 days from now, maybe not even rain. If that is the bar for terrestrial weather, than what is it for space weather? I give you my take. I give you my analysis. I hope I am right, and alot of you are here because I have had a pretty good track record so far. Do not think for one second that I don't know that track record could fall apart tomorrow. I need you to understand that.
Internally though? That is a different story. My confidence is rising. My perception broadening and my understanding increasing. The beauty of space weather currently, is at some point you have to make a gut call. You read the same data as everyone else, and you make your prediction. The finer brush strokes don't always come out perfect, but the big picture is definitely coherent at this point.
OFFICIAL FORECAST - SUN
https://preview.redd.it/9bja58vvvl0d1.png?width=414&format=png&auto=webp&s=9bc0bf36701972c3c52f5e74e004db2bc937e34b
I expect a brief lull in activity affecting earth. Flaring may remain slightly elevated but we cannot escape the fact that AR3664 is out of the mix. The other groups are growing, but they are not growing exceptionally fast. That could change and we will keep close eyes on active regions. Here is a link to all SDO imagery with a few pointers
AIA 131 Teal - best for capturing the flash of flares.
AIA 171 Gold - best for capturing magnetic connections, overall activity, post arcade loops
AIA 211 Purple - best for capturing eruptivity during flares and dimming
AIA 193 Bronze - good for coronal holes esp, but a blend of 171 and 211 showing activity and a glimpse of eruptivity
AIA 304 Red - best for plasma filaments and prominences and eruptivity
The others are great too and have various specialities but the primary ones are above.
If existing active regions do intensify, the forecast will change. We cannot assume they will, although I think they will. The sun is active overall and is able to generate big flares from any location or sunspot group. Even though the existing are not huge gashes like AR3664, AR3664 had humble beginnings too. Even though the spots on the disk are compact, they are fairly intense. I believe the official forecast reflects this. Even with AR3664 off the disk and no longer listed, the M-Class chances are 75% (too low) and the X-Class chances are 40% (I agree). They are seeing the same thing.
OFFICIAL FORECAST -EARTH
WSA-ENLIL shows an atypical setup. There are some small CMEs in the pipe and we are passing through a solar wind enhancement. Not sure where it came from but the parker spiral action is carrying it to and through us. Nothing big out there right now though. CME production remains elevated, including several potential full and partial halo, but currently nothing substantial aimed directly at us. DONKI shows a minor impact in the coming days with max Kp3.
Our star has made its most prolific run yet over the past few weeks. Both generating massive geomagnetic storms on earth and massive flares. Yes, SC23 was more intense in every facet, but SC25 is not over. It has already far exceeded SC24 though and its not close. Get this little fact.
In SC24 there were approximately 48 X-Class flares in the entire cycle which spanned from 2008-2019. In the past 2 weeks have seen more than 25% of that total. In 2 weeks, we got 25% of the way to the entire total of the previous 11 year cycle. And that does not even count the years and months prior of SC25, just the last 2 weeks. I think Mr McIntosh can take a victory lap. He went against the grain, called this a big cycle in direct opposition to NOAA on the basis of his own theory. Bravo! Its not done. We are in solar maximum and that is clear, but what is not clear is just how max this max will be? Nobody can predict the future or what will happen tomorrow on the sun, but I can say that there has NEVER been a better time in all of our recorded civilization to get acquainted with and understand space weather. Not only because of the activity level, the tools available to everyone for free, but because we must be on watch. We are the watchers. If you are here, you know what is up. The rest of the world does not. They do not understand space weather and the think its impossible to do so. Too complicated. Well that is where you come in. Learn it. Understand it. Teach it. Its going to matter in the coming decades, and I would bet everything I own on that. Does that mean CE 2.0? Hell no. Don't immediate jump to extremes, but here is the simple facts. We hit extreme storm levels last weekend from not so extreme storms. It did not harm anything. No widespread damage, just some localized stuff. A transformer blew up in a city about 50 miles from me overnight. Don't see that often. Could it be coincidence it occurred as our earth is trying to process all of the excess energy and current coursing through it? Sure it could be, but I am paying attention. Seismic activity is sharply rising the past few days, with significant attention paid to the south pacific and the caribbean currently. Weather and cloud anomalies all over the place and in strange places. The link to cloud anomalies shows iridiscent clouds usually spotted in polar regions only, yet these are in Vietnam. Many other places too. Are you paying attention?
Coming Article Teaser and Open Letter
I am going to touch on my article that is in the works just a little bit. A teaser if you will because I think it needs to be discussed right now, but when I release it, you will need no less than an hour to read it. It will be comprehensive and supported. I am shooting from the hip here, but I do so from an informed standpoint, the same standpoint I want you to arrive at.
What does ALL of this mean? Should I be scared? Can I jump to conclusions about this? Stop it. One day at at time. We are not scientists here. Most of us have no degrees or letters behind our names. We come armed with logic and the powers of perception, ready to learn. We are in the observation stage. We are looking for signals, correlations, coincidences, anomalies, patterns, etc. We must all determine for ourselves the truth of the matter, with our own eyes, and it starts right here at solarmax.
Now let me get something straight. I am very excited about aurora chances and the study of this field. I have no reason to believe we are in imminent danger. I have no reason to believe that we are in imminent danger tomorrow, or any other time. I recognize that like many forces of nature and the cosmos, that the sun does have the ability to make life pretty hard here, as well as makes all life possible. I give it the respect it deserves, but I do not give it fear or panic. I give it logic and rationality. Logic and rationality tells me that something is up with our planet, and I am not sure its so easily explained by the current narrative. I see man made climate change used far and wide to excuse every development from earthquakes, length of day glitches, changing earths rotation, etc and who am I to argue? I have no degrees as I said. I am just a self taught dude who likes space.
But I would offer them a challenge. Find a way to attribute last weekends massive geomagnetic storm from some relatively low magnitude CMEs to climate change. Go ahead, I will wait. No one would argue that the CMEs from 2003 were stronger, yet the effects were nearly identical and anecdotally more intense. How did our Co2 do that? They will attribute it to starlink satellites or something else man made. ESA swarm mission will tell you that its only decreased 9% on average whatever the hell that means. How can that be, if its been weakening at absolutely positively no less than 5% per century on average with modern estimates much closer to 5% per DECADE. The average rate of loss is no longer reported and is a mystery and possibly a closely guarded secret. As a result, I have no numbers or figures I can give you that I can prove. I will offer you a challenge too though.
Look around. Do you see a pattern? Do you see an acceleration of "things"? Everyone does. Cant deny it. Climate change is a good candidate for it, but we must factor last weekends geomagnetic storm in as anecdotal evidence that something could be changing, quickly. Its not proof. We could not go to a court of law and establish it as fact without refute. Some could say the CMEs combined in an unusual way and it somehow drastically magnified the overall energy content into a single wave. Maybe that is true. I cant refute it with data.
But....we can watch for the next one. We will get another big storm? I dont know. But we will be watching. If we see another storm like last weekend from low end X-Class flares, that could change. Our argument could strengthen, but we must approach it scientifically and logically, even if we are not scientists. Immanuel Velikovsky said that the test of a theory should be the explanation that requires the least in the way of modification, qualifier, and assumption to arrive at a conclusion. Pardon my french, but fuck what the mainstream is telling you. I am not saying they are lying, but am I saying trust your eyes, your instincts. This is IN you. It is in us all.
Thank you for making SolarMax a top 12% space and astronomy subreddit. I am a modest and humble man, but we are doing good work here. I am moved and touched by all of the posts, comments, questions, articles, and observations. Someone made an excellent observation overnight about the possible sympathetic nature of the flaring yesterday on direct opposite sides of the sun that I had made myself, but not brought to your attention. I thought maybe the timelapse just made it look sympathetic, but evidently others noticed too. That is what this is all about. Again, I am an armchair analyst. I make no bones about that. I have no qualifications that I could point to that says I know what I am talking about. When I say self taught, I do not just mean this subject. I am self taught in life. I barely graduated high school. I was essentially guaranteed graduation because my high school could not wait to get rid of me. If you are looking for good grammar, punctuation, syntax, etc you will not find it here and ultimately qualified or not, the results and predictions will pan out and prove it or they wont. Either way I will not lie to myself about it. I have been preparing for this for months and I did not know why I was preparing, or why I felt making this sub was so important when so many resources already exist. I am going to ride that wave, but I expect you all to keep me accountable.
I am sorry this was longer than expected. I hope you can get the message and be an adult about it. I am not saying we are in trouble, but I am saying we need to be paying attention. If you want to freak out about it, I cant stop you. Arm yourself with knowledge, and you yourself will know, when or if it is time to freak out. Arm yourself with knowledge and you will not be swayed by twitter idiots and AI written articles which sensatonalize the topic and only give the worst case CE scenario because it sells. I realize now that its not practical to guide you through each event, that we will grow past that point, and as a result, you must teach yourself with the tools here and elsewhere. Not even just for yourself, but for the rest of the world who do not understand space weather and they need someone to trust. Why not you?
With love and respect,
AcA

2024.05.15 17:52 DazzlingShiny130 Beyond Light (The Storyteller Spider)

SUMMARY

"The Storyteller Spider or Beyond Light is a major character from the web-novel Tales We Weave appearing directly and indirectly as the author and supreme creator of all creation and serving as a narrator above all concepts, meanings, entities, creation and the narrative itself, existing outside of it like a human reading a book. The myth of Beyond Light started millenniums ago on earth more specifically on the African continent, with the first humans believing on a spider god that from time to time, descended from the divine realm to earth with the single purpose to share his stories with the people. The myth still being a myth however inspired a whole generation of humans to write about the entity and the fables of Beyond Light became famous around the world with each one of them having a meaning. With the time as generations passed, humanity slowly forgot about them and even though their stories were slowly getting forgotten in time, there would exist those who would never forget about the myth of the Storyteller Spider as well its fables"

APPEARANCE

"In chapter 4-5 the Storyteller Spider is described as an big white spider with a undefined size, it is believed that Beyond Light's true form cannot be understood by any mind and being forever a mystery even to editors. While other beings are not able to understand Beyond Light's true form, he is sometimes described as an giant eldritch white spider and sometimes appearing in a human form. The true aspect and form of The Storyteller Spider is believed to exist beyond the dark frontier and being forever a mystery to those below it"

PERSONALITY

"The Storyteller Spider shows to be a friendly entity rather than a controlling entity like editors, he sees creation more than a story but a happy and cheerful world full of different individuals with each one building their own story. According to Beyond Light every single being has a story to tell be it about their daily lives or whatever action they take, there is always a story to tell wherever you look around. Beyond Light also shows a lot of interest for external stories be it from his creation or even from other places. During chapter 4 of Tales We Weave, Beyond Light mentioned the SCP Foundation showing he was aware such verse existed and adding how he liked the writing and lore the SCP writers from the wiki. Beyond Light doesn't just seems to love narrating and weaving new stories but seems to also love reading external stories, according to him there is always something new a person can learn when reading a story, that's the fun of creation and the thing that gives colors and joy to existence, the endlessly stories the individual can learn and extract a lesson from it"

POWERS AND ABILITIES

"Beyond's Light true powers remains a mystery for most entities but they are highly believed to be above all concepts of existence and above creation itself, seeing the narrative and everything as fiction to him, thus granting him great power and influence to control what happens in the story. During chapter 4-5 Beyond Light reveals to Skinande existence itself is merely something he weaved to narrate, even the existence of meta entities such Skinande or editors are tied to the narratives of Beyond Light. He was also responsible for the creation of the Primary Web, something that contained the entire omniverse with every realm, dimension and a fraction of the narrative stack created by him. Concepts such; destruction, chaos, destiny or light are conceptual ideas tied and confined inside the Primary Web"

1. The Collective Webs

"The Collective Webs is the place where all single stories meet with each other being a place weaved by editors, each web from the collective webs contains a infinite number of multiverses with each one having a different story editors created"

1.2 The Primary Web

"The Primary web exists above all concepts possibly containing half of the entire narrative stack weaved by editors, is also the web that contains the entire existence such the omniverse, dimensions, realms, planes of existence, mathematical concepts and concepts of existence, all stacked inside the primary web"

1.3 The Fourth Web

"Although it was not mentioned, It is highly implied that there are upper layers above the primary web before reaching the dark frontier as editors can also manipulate the primary web. Above the Primary Web there exists the Fourth Web which is the place editors resides, the fourth web is an fourth wall aspect established above the narrative of the Primary Web, serving as an web that exists beyond the fourth wall"

1.4 The Mother Web

"The Mother Web is implied to be the last web of the narrative weaved by The Storyteller Spider, existing beyond the fourth wall and containing the entire full narrative stack from infinite stories. The existence of editors and other meta beings are also tied to the mother web as they are part of it as a whole, the Mother Web is argued to contain the entire fiction inside it, everything that existed, exists and will exist in the narrative is contained inside the mother web"

1.5 The Dark Frontier

"The Dark Frontier serves as an barrier that traps and seals the mother web, due to its nature it is impossible for any meta or pataphysical being to cross it, representing also the edge of fiction and the true point of no return. The dark frontier is also extremely large, encompassing and evolving the entire mother web like an spherical cloud of darkness. Due to its nature it is believed that Beyond Light exists above it, however as none ever managed to reach it, it is unknown what exists above it but it could possibly be the place Beyond Light resides as a whole"

QUOTES

"Time...It's not what you think it is, time is like a cage or cube that revolves everything and when you freed yourself and leave its boundaries you realize time is just a cage trapping third dimensional beings inside, you see how time is so small but big compared to those people" - Beyond Light to Skinande when explaining about conceptual meanings
"Everything is more fun and better when people shares their ideas and gathers them together with other's ideas thus making a lot of stories" - Beyond Light to Skinande
"Every work has an message the author desires to pass to the readers, the message I wanna pass here is that with a bit of creativity, effort, and imagination someone is already capable to create and build different types of stories, and that's exactly the message I try to pass on this web-novel, the "Tales we Weave" or stories we create together" - Beyond Light to the readers

TRIVIA

*In the African continent, Beyond Light was once mistaken with the god "Anansi", the spider god
*Although It wasn't mentioned, Beyond Light's favorite story and narrative is the "Self Reference Engine", with himself being a "fan" of Nemo Ex Machina's work
*Among the many names he was given already, the names "Beyond Light" and "The Storyteller Spider" were the most famous and used ones by himself
*It is not fully know why Beyond Light picks the form of a spider to manifest himself but it could possibly be related to how he weaves and create stories like an spider weaving its webs
*He seems to be aware of other verses as he mentioned SCP writers in chapter 4
*SCP-2747 was almost mentioned by Skinande before he got interrupted and cut by Beyond Light
*As mentioned above, Beyond Light shows an deep passion and interests for stories, quoting them as "the joy of creation" for him and being the thing that moves every writer to write, the passion for the narrative and the writer's creativity
*"Did you liked my own improvised fandom wiki, reader?"

2024.05.15 17:14 TheDoomedHeretic Is the Idea of Evil a reliable narrator? [Little bit crackpot theory.]

I'm re-reading chunks of Berserk for a roleplaying thing and I specifically went to Griffith's encounter with the IOE where they go on their spiel about how humanity created them as something to pin their problems on, which is a thing that comes up pretty often in Bersek. I'dunno Miura's beliefs on spirituality and the afterlife, but, he seems to have made it a repeated point that the denizens of the world really like flocking to people that'll do all the protecting for them.
The refugees flocking to that one torture castle I forgot the name of, flocking to the soldiers and inquisitor guy to save them when they could literally just walk away and probably be fine, trying to sacrifice Casca, then flocking to Griffith's little utopia.
The IOE's story seems to line up with everything we've seen and narratively makes sense; God is literally a fucking evil monstrous heart lying in the abyss in a world that's pretty critical of group think and people always putting the blame on others.
But, I mean, what if he's just full of shit?
Yeah he says lots of things and comes across all self-assured in himself that humans made him and they're all to blame for the evil in the world, but, they're a massive, evil, floating heart that has a plot that involves killing god knows how many people where their servants are some of the most vile and deceitful creatures in existence. Is there any in-universe proof that this story he peddles isn't just to get his 'Angels' on board with the program of telling them 'Oh yeah you guys are totally vindicated 'cause the world is bad and you're just the apex predators in it, don't worry I'll definitely keep you around for eternity?'
Crackpotting done.

2024.05.15 17:09 WintyreFraust Dispelling Some Common Myths and Misconceptions About The Afterlife

TLDR: The actual evidence from multiple lines of afterlife research, when viewed through a non-spiritual, non-religious, secular filter, can clear up many mistaken, uninformed ideas about what we call "the afterlife."
Where do the following answers come from? Years of research into the many different categories of afterlife investigation that have been conducted for over 100 years and from around the world through a completely secular lens, without disregarding any evidence or trying to make any of it fit into any preconceived spiritual or religious ideas, or using any popularized narratives one might find in the media.
1: "We don't have physical bodies in the afterlife." - This is simply not true. There are countless accounts from the dead themselves that involve not only their own physical bodies there, but describe a world that is as physical as this world. They (and those that visit that world while alive here) often describe it as even more solid, and more real, than this world. The described their homes, the landscape around their homes, their physical activities like eating, drinking, going out with friends, hiking, learning to play musical instruments, going to concerts, libraries, going swimming, walking, drives, having intimate relationships, etc.
Yes, some people do report not having physical bodies, but this just means there are more ways of existing, and many different kinds of environments in what we call "the afterlife." It's is not just one kind of place where we all exist the same way, doing the same things.
2: "Nobody knows if there is an afterlife or what it is like." This is probably the most repeated myth in this subreddit. This is just a lack of critical thinking and/or projecting one's own lack of information/knowledge as some kind of universal condition. Millions of people know there is an afterlife and know what it is like, at least in general terms, including many scientists.
3: "Science says there is no afterlife." Just no. No it does not. There are many different categories of scientific research into the afterlife and evidence gathered from every one of these indicate the same thing: that consciousness continues after death into some kind of afterlife existence. Often people mistake the comments of certain scientists who are ideological materialists/physicalists for "what science says." This is just another lack of critical reasoning.
4. "If the afterlife had been demonstrated to exist, everyone would know." This is just an appeal to popular knowledge and/or an erroneous appeal to authority. The actual authorities in the necessary field of expertise - afterlife research - pretty much unanimously agree that the existence of the afterlife has been demonstrated via multiple vectors of supportive research. If you are wondering why this knowledge is not broadcast all over mainstream media or other authoritative outlets, and insist that if it were true it would have been, you are once again failing to use any critical reasoning.
The information and evidence about the afterlife not only contradicts the ideological beliefs of scientists in positions of authority in the various institutions of science and academia (largely materialism/physicalism,) it also contradicts the religious and spiritual beliefs of most people, including those who are the gatekeepers of the distribution of information through all mainstream media. This is information that would cause massive, worldwide societal and cultural upheaval.
5. "Contradictory information discredits the idea of the existence of an afterlife." Once again, this myth is the result of a lack of critical reasoning. The only reason we think think such information is dispositive about the existence of an afterlife is because of an unexamined assumption: that what we call "the afterlife" is a single homogenous kind of experience that is true for everyone, and that the dead should not disagree with each other about anything.
Yes, some sources claim that "everyone, when they die, experiences X," and others claim that their models and perspectives are universally applicable; this is simply because the dead hold various different beliefs and views, based on their experiences and way of interpreting those experiences, just like people alive on Earth. Dying does not grant anyone universal wisdom or knowledge; when you die, you're just the same person you were before you died, with much the same way of thinking about things (although it usually changes to some degree once you realize you still exist after dying.)
Just as different people around the world have different ideas about the nature of existence, what life is like, what is going on, what we should be doing, etc., and may believe that is true of all people everywhere, people in the afterlife are much the same, and even people like mediums or astral projectors are much the same. People tend to "universalize" their own experiences, perspective and ideas.
6. "There is no proof of the afterlife." If by "proof" one means "there is not enough supporting evidence to reach a reasonable conclusion that an afterlife exists," this is just incorrect and only demonstrates a lack of information and/or critical reasoning skills, or it reveals an a priori commitment to the idea that there is no afterlife. I and many others have already discussed this in several prior posts in this subreddit.
I'll probably address some more myths and misconceptions in the comments.

2024.05.15 17:07 Fine_Basket4446 Why TLoU works (and why there is no sequel)

Its far from original. Its a mix of many narratives across different genres. That's not a slam on it or anyone that likes it, just the reality. More importantly, understanding the ingredients to its success as a narrative not only gains a deeper appreciation of what it accomplished but also highlights what made Pt 2 fail narratively. Not that anything I say matters but, for reference, I taught film and screen writing for some years before returning to my field.
The story is nothing original. The idea of the older paternal mentor figure protecting and guiding a younger apprentice or child figure is a tale as old as time. The premise of man is the real monster has been around forever, as well, but in the "zombie" genre it was there from the start with Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". The characterization of Joel isn't even that remarkable as he shares the DNA of many seasoned warrior of few words characters in fiction. TLoU takes many of the best of these and makes them stand out with a few choice decisions.
First, brevity. TLoU is not a long game. It can be experienced casually in a day. This is one of its greatest strengths. Few cutscenes ever keep you from playing for more than a couple minutes. The cutscenes that are experienced are all purposeful and don't waste time. In fact, if you watch them, the dialogue and action moves fast, only giving breathing room for the most impactful of moments. The script and direction are tight to give what's needed, to feel what's needed, and then put you back in control. Furthermore, like Uncharted before but perfected, many story moments are gameplay moments through environmental design, dialogue prompts, or QTE. Ultimately, it gives players the narrative equivalent of a woman's skirt; long enough to cover what's needed but short enough to grab our attention.
Second, classical narratives. I used to ask my students who liked Star Wars: A New Hope. Hands always shot up. I asked why and would hear a bunch of reasons but I'd always turn it to Lucas following classical narratives and filmmaking. Spectacle aside, Star Wars followed the classical 3 act structure and the monomyth (Hero's Journey). These time proven structures can make good stories great, especially when you include the spectacle. TLoU had spectacle with what I said before of mixing brief cutscenes and story driven gameplay. The actual story, though, is nearly beat for beat on the Hero's Journey and engrosses us in its tale. Joel has something unique going in that he has 2 journeys, one of them only being referenced.
The first journey begins with Joel in his known world of the pre-apocalypse. He is a hardworking dad but far from who he'd become. The outbreak is what sends him on his journey. The loss of his daughter is the point of no return. Then...the story jumps into the future. We learn bits of his backstory but there is clearly a lot of details missing. Ultimately, he went from a survivalist who did reprehensible things but he also clearly had an offscreen "redemption" moment. When we start the game proper, Joel is again in a known stable world. He has carved out a life that he finds acceptably comfortable. This is where the second journey starts and why the game's narrative hits so well.
Call to Adventure- Tess arrives and, despite some apprehension, convinces Joel to recover their guns. This leads to Marlene recruiting them to smuggle Ellie.
Supernatural Aid- During the attempt to smuggle Ellie, they learn of her immunity and the significance of their "quest".
Point of No Return/Threshold- The Fireflies are dead and Tess dies. Joel must now continue to deliver Ellie despite his reluctance to such an impossible task and his discomfort being reminded of his past life.
Obstacles/Temptations/Helpers- The middle part of the game has 3 distinct chapters that force Joel to confront himself and grow. I'll be breaking them down.
  1. Bill comes at a low moment for Joel. Confusion and sorrow from the loss of Tess, Joel finds Bill as a dark reflection, the future if he lets his pain consume him. While Bill helps Joel, he also serves as a lesson of what not to become. When Joel departs, he has processed some of his grief, is more committed to the quest, and has now opened up more to Ellie.
  2. Sam and Henry arrive at a time Joel is beginning to open his heart. Through their journey, Joel can recognize the love he had and wants again. The tragedy of their final day is Joel really does open up with Sam and Henry and you see traces of happiness. Then...the morning comes.
  3. Joel reunites with Tommy. While he is still open with Ellie, this entire chapter has Joel even more determined to pass Ellie off. The tragedy of Sam and Henry make him see that more time with Ellie will lead to more pain. He reassures himself that passing her off will get him the security he needs to live comfortably, that she's better off with someone else, and then his rageful response that all he's done has kept him and Tommy alive. Joel is dangerously close to embracing the temptation of Bill's life. Yet, it's none other than Ellie who brings Joel back.
Abyss- Joel and Ellie are at their most optimistic. They share more life details freely. They talk about the future (unrelated but this is also where Ellie mentions the entire "vaccine" procedure being easy because she doesn't like needles, highlighting that she never meant to sacrifice herself. Suck it Pt. 2). However, they find the Fireflies abandoned it and are ambushed by raiders. Joel is gravely injured.
Transformation- When Joel awakes to find Ellie missing, something in him is triggered. He goes on the war path to find and save her. When he does find her, he finally lets all his emotional guards down. She is his "baby girl". Ellie had, arguably since Tommy's chapter, embraced Joel as a father figure but now Joel no longer denies him being that.
Atonement- Ellie has been taken and soon to be murdered. Unlike the unfaithful show, the Joel that fights through the hospital is scared and anxious as he rushes to get to Ellie. Where he failed to save Sarah, he desperately fights to save Ellie (both from callous militaries convinced they are serving the "greater good"). In the end, he does.
Return- Joel returns to Tommy with Ellie. He has become a master of two worlds. Able to still be the one to make hard decisions but also able to open his heart. This is accentuated in his lie to Ellie. He knows she is wrestling with all her pain and gives her an honest answer in finding something to live for. When she demands him to swear, he lies, yes, but he does so to protect her emotionally. With Ellie's "ok", they begin their new life.
First off as I wrap up this essay, I refuse to acknowledge the sequel. I did even when it was announced. The first game was perfect as a stand alone experience. Furthermore, I don't acknowledge it as it is not even made by the same team or direction. Neil moved it forward and we see how that worked out. But it holds as much validity as the Star Wars sequels to me. Lucas sold it to Disney. This is not a genuine continuation of the original vision and I don't hold them as valid to what came before (though I also despise the prequels for other reasons).
I say this because I firmly believe the game concluded definitively with Ellie accepting the lie. She has been shown as perceptive and intelligent. She obviously knows the events are not as Joel said. The weight of her "ok" is far more impactful and reflects her own hero's journey. The truth is, she doesn't believe Joel. She knows he's lying. Every indicator of her pause, reflection, and line delivery reflect that. She says "ok" because the reality of Joel's speech to find something worth fighting for hits home. She has known nothing but abandonment, terror, and suffering. She still feels the pain of loss and wants to despair in survivor's guilt. But now...on the outskirts of a new stable home, she recognizes Joel now sees her in the same way she sees him. She knows he's shielding her from something horrible and will continue to protect her. Her "ok" isn't out of childish naivety but in becoming more like Joel and moving forward with determination.
In the end, while the franchise screwed the pooch, the original game utilized classic narrative structure through effective brief cutscenes and environmental story telling to tell a greatest hits from its various genres.
Anyways, here's Wonderwall.

2024.05.15 17:00 agileideation Unpacking the "Being the Best" Trope: Is It Time for a Vision & Mission Glow-Up?

I'm on a bit of a mission (pun intended) with a series I've dubbed “Your Vision and Mission: Maybe It’s Time for a Rethink?” We're diving deep into the all-too-common corporate crusade of striving to be "the best." Today, let's unravel Day 3: Rethinking “The Best”: A Call for Meaningful Excellence.
The gist is simple yet profound: the quest to be "the best" is ubiquitous in business rhetoric. But what if I told you that this ambition, while lofty, might actually be selling us short? Yes, you heard me right. The benchmark of being the best — often quantified by profit margins, market shares, and other financial metrics — overlooks the nuanced and impactful facets of true excellence.
True excellence is as multifaceted as a well-cut diamond. It sparkles with innovation, societal impact, and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. It's not just about dominating the market; it's about enriching it. It's about setting a vision and mission that aspire to not only lead but also transform.
So, what does this mean for you, the aspiring innovator, the visionary entrepreneur, the leader who wants to leave a mark not just on the industry but on the world? It means it’s time to expand your horizons. Consider:
Innovation Beyond Profit: How does your vision foster innovation that solves real-world problems, not just fills your pockets? Social Impact: In what ways does your mission contribute to societal well-being and community growth? Customer Satisfaction: Are you aiming to just sell, or are you striving to genuinely uplift your customers' lives? This approach isn't about discarding the idea of success; it's about redefining it. It’s about creating a vision and mission that resonate on a deeper level, that drive you towards making a meaningful difference.
I'm here, starting this journey on Reddit, to build a community where we can share, challenge, and grow together. Whether you're a seasoned leader or just starting out, I believe there's immense value in reflecting on what truly drives us. Let’s reshape the narrative around what it means to be truly excellent.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, insights, and perhaps even your personal visions and missions that break the mold. Let’s get this conversation started!

2024.05.15 16:50 ComradeSubtopia WHAT ARE OUR NEXT STEPS?

This group has done an incredible job of organizing, sharing facts & support here on reddit, & getting the word out. I don't want us to lose the narrative advantage we have right now so NOW'S THE TIME TO START STRATEGIZING ON NEXT STEPS!!
What would you like to see the group tackle next in our boycott? What boycott issues or strategies do you think we should focus on?
My thoughts:
  1. Prepare to announce the May boycott has been so successful we're not stopping, we're going to take on the whole of Q2, explain why, & pin that post to the top.
  2. Plan a strategy for the month of June with a SLOGAN. Example: Canadians talking to Canadians is our strength & our secret weapon, so I think we need a whole month where our emphasis is on talking to fam, friends, coworkers, neighbours, putting up posters etc. Maybe a 'tell 2 friends' month or 'spread the word' month, or 'Canadians talking to Canadians' month. Emphasis on getting the word out to people who may not have heard or may not have heard details. Share what talking points we're using, questions & responses we get, success stories etc
  3. I'd love to see us really take on a Shop Local day in June too, with a bit more lead-time so we can maybe get media to pick it up, maybe have leaflets we can leave at the small local grocery stores before the Shop Local Day.
Other ideas?

2024.05.15 16:26 oceanadawn My most deranged Madame X Theory: There have been multiple Madame Xs.

I was originally going to post a totally sensible theory about "Madame X is almost certainly a Melia, Maria or Erin who came from another timeline where they went to Axis High, or knew the Axis High people because she came from a Doomed Timeline a la Chapter 12", and I've decided we should simply go insane. I'll help.
There are multiple Madame Xs.
Consider:
Got all that? Good. So let me propose this idea:
There have been multiple Madame X's, and each Madame X is not native to the world she appears in.
Each Madame X has been like an M2 relative to whoever's body she took over in that world. Let's say that she's a Maria who survives the Xenocide of the world that Team Xen is after in each world, who while trapped in the nothingness like M2 was, slowly starts to go insane and comes to believe Madame X was right for some twisted reason like "Oh this suffering was always inevitable anyway", or discovers Karma and decides that only this is a sufficient form of rebellion - or is chosen by whoever World Shatterer is, and taken advantage of then. One way or the other, this character goes insane in the nowhere, and then manages to make their way into the next version, presumably starting somewhere like Kugearen before Storm-9 in that one mystery house or something, and eventually becoming Madame X.
When it comes to Madame X herself:
Anyway, this isn't even the most insane Madame X theory I can think of. I'm sure we can do worse.

My first painted Custodian Terminator
Wrapped up one of my Allarus/Aquilon Custodian Terminators last night. I tried to merge the Shadowkeepers scheme with my custom colors, to denote their history. This is a narrative/Crusade army- so my usual art style of intentional details like that have a good home here. A combination of the two Custodes armors gives them a much more bulky silouette over Guard and Wardens.
It also contributes to an idea that these soldiers are the epitome of a lost utopia for Humanity. To see them in battle is intended to have the same flavor of Tolkien's Passing of the Elves, or the Technomages in Babylon 5 (which could likely have been inspired by Tolkien too). Imperial Guardsmen would immediately be able to see that there was once a period of human history that eclipsed the Imperium, and perhaps can come again. If not, these living legends shall pass out of time- yielding the present to lesser descendants.

2024.05.15 15:30 Only-Experience-4000 Donnie Darko (2001): Jungian Symbolism and Archetypes

The 2001 film Donnie Darko, written and directed by Richard Kelly, is a complex psychological thriller that can be analyzed through the lens of Jungian psychology and alchemical symbolism. Jungian psychology, developed by Carl Jung, is a theory that focuses on the unconscious mind and the process of individualization, which is the integration of the conscious and unconscious parts of the psyche. Alchemy, an ancient practice that sought to transform base metals into gold, was seen by Jung as a metaphor for psychological transformation.
Donnie Darko follows the structure of the hero's journey, an archetypal narrative pattern described by Jung and mythologist Joseph Campbell. In this journey, the hero ventures from the ordinary world into a realm of supernatural wonder, faces challenges and temptations, and ultimately returns transformed. Donnie's journey begins when a jet engine crashes into his bedroom, a disruptive event that Jung would call the "nigredo" stage. In alchemy, nigredo (blackening) represents a state of chaos and dissolution that precedes transformation.
Throughout the film, Donnie confronts his "shadow," a Jungian archetype representing the unconscious, repressed, and often destructive aspects of the personality. Donnie's shadow is manifested in Frank, a man in a monstrous rabbit suit who compels Donnie towards antisocial behavior. Water, a universal symbol of the unconscious and emotions, features prominently in Donnie's interactions with Frank, such as the flooded school.
Mirrors, another alchemical symbol representing self-reflection and confrontation with the shadow, appear frequently. Donnie sees his distorted reflection and Frank's masked face in mirrors, suggesting a confrontation with his inner darkness. The rabbit itself, associated with fertility, lunar cycles, and rebirth, is an alchemical symbol of transformation.
Alongside the shadow, Donnie integrates his "anima," the feminine inner personality in the male psyche, represented by Gretchen Ross. Gretchen's red hair evokes the "rubedo" stage in alchemy, the final phase of the work that signals the achievement of enlightenment or perfection. Donnie's ultimate sacrifice to save Gretchen represents the "coniunctio" or sacred marriage of opposites in alchemy.
Synchronicity, a term coined by Jung to describe meaningful coincidences, is prevalent in the film. The recurrence of the number 8, Frank's prophetic visions, and the mysterious book "The Philosophy of Time Travel" all hint at a deeper, interconnected pattern. This reflects the alchemical idea of the macrocosm-microcosm correspondence, where individual transformation mirrors cosmic processes.
Time travel itself is an alchemical motif, representing the transcendence of temporal and material limitations. Donnie's mastery of time, culminating in his self-sacrificial act, parallels the alchemist's quest for the philosopher's stone, a legendary substance capable of transformation and immortality.
In conclusion, Donnie Darko is rich in Jungian and alchemical symbolism. Donnie's journey of individuation involves confronting his shadow, integrating his anima, and ultimately transcending the self - a psychological process mirrored in alchemical transformation. The film's symbolism, from the disruptive nigredo of the jet engine to the rubedo of Gretchen's hair, evokes the stages and elements of the alchemical opus. By interweaving these psychological and esoteric motifs, Donnie Darko invites the viewer on a profound journey of self-discovery and transformation, becoming a modern alchemical allegory for the individuation process. Its enigmatic depth continues to inspire viewers to explore the mysteries of the psyche and the cosmic patterns that shape our lives.

2024.05.15 15:26 sparkle0406 S5 E14 Bree did nothing wrong when she tried to help Lynette and her family with money!

While Bree may have seemed a little show-offy in the beginning when she was sharing her new car with everyone, she really did nothing wrong in terms of her relationship with Lynette. As soon as she found out that Lynette's family was having money troubles, she immediately offered $20,000. She only accepted Lynette's offer to be a part investor because Lynette pushed it. Then, when Lynette had the idea to throw a party for Bree, Bree thought that it would be a good opportunity for Lynette's business as well as for Bree's business to have a local launch at Scavos pizzeria. Keeping in mind Bree literally could have picked any place to have her launch and she chose Scavos.
Then Bree realizes at the event that they were going to be serving her food. She understandably had some reservations given how specific the ingredients and everything about her food is. She chose to omit Parmesan cheese. That's it. That's the only thing she did. Yes, she wasted the pizza and threw it out without talking to Lynette but in my opinion, she had every right to have her recipes done in the way that she wanted. It's her reputation, her business, her book, etc. Not to mention she wasn't even told about this beforehand.
Lynette was just too upset about her own issues to realize that Bree was just being a good friend. Bree's success had absolutely nothing to do with Lynette's situation. Same with how Lynette acted during Bree's Businesswoman of the Year luncheon. Bree was not trying to compete with Lynette or her friends. She was just successful because she worked incredibly hard!
Then at the end when Mary Alice narrates, and they show Bree, she mentions that you must never use money as a weapon. Insinuating that that's what Bree did. She didn't! She was trying to help the entire time.
What were your thoughts on the situation?

2024.05.15 15:18 yawn_eater bible retellings in california

Hi all! so lately I've had a very strong and weird urge to read any retellings of bible stories or biblically inspired narratives that take place in california. like, birth of jesus in santa clara or garden of eden in the valley of heart's delight.. so on and so forth... it doesn't have to be modern-day, any time in the past is fine with me up to and inclulding pre-colonial times, it's more about the location.
i have genuinely no idea how to go about finding this though! i know there are plenty (some might even say too many) retellings of the bible out there but i do not have the time or means to sort through them all for my super-specific needs. any help would be appreciated! and if this isn't the right sub to ask then pls point me in the right direction.

2024.05.15 14:36 Maya_OvO Hope

I was introduced to scj in December 2022 by a friend. I liked the initial lessons on parables, especially the very first parable about the four fields, I thought their explanation was accurate. I didn't always agree on their interpretation about the other parables and I realised that everytime I expressed my disagreement, they would say there's something more coming that will provide a bigger and more complete picture. Months before they introduced the idea of the new John, I realised they would introduce someone like this. I realised this in the intermediate phase on lessons such as the different kinds of pastors and the lesson on the spring and their emphasis on the word "reality" that they would say a "promised pastor" who is a spring has appeared in "reality" in our current time. I had a feeling about it and told both my friend and my teacher at the time. They did not deny that that's where the narrative was going but did not actually admit it either. They said they were impressed by how I perceived and that such perception came from God. I felt patronized and like I was treated like a child because I was being straight and direct about what I was picking up from the lessons but they were not being direct and trusting me with whatever information was coming even though they admitted I had great perception. That's when I decided to look up SJC on the internet and nothing negative came up. The SCJ website showed LMH as a promised pastor. I googled LMH and read about him on Wikipedia. I saw a testimony of a girl who was at the cape town church. These things did not make me think SJC is bad. I wanted to hear more because I thought maybe these people had a reason to believe so strongly in what they believed in and I know my friend is a highly intelligent person, even this teacher was intelligent. I was just suprised they could believe in lmh as a promised pastor because he was so old and frail. I also didn't believe in the concept of a promised pastor at the second coming especially because the organization is too secretive with the information and after 40 years of its existence very few people know about it.
Looking at LMHs age and condition, this looked to me like the Kingdom of Heaven would come in months or less than five years from now however the rate in which scj is going at telling people about it is incredibly slow and it seemed unlikely that the whole word would know about the salvation offered at scj if they continue at this rate. I told my friend about this, (before they told us who the promised pastor was) and he didn't seem worried at all. He said it will happen because nothing is impossible with God. Looking back, maybe he told on me and that I had found out who the promised pastor was before they announced.
Anyway we started with Revelation lessons and I was so shocked at their explanations from chapter 1. They had no explanation about the meaning of the 7 churches, this didn't sit well with me when everything else represents something. They denied the plain explanation in the bible about what the lampstands stand for and introduced the Terbanancle Temple instead and they dinied that some of the churches had done well and labelled all of them as betrayers.
At this point I looked up more on the internet, found many videos of ex members on YouTube. Then I found this reddit and was blown away by the evidence presented in the first pinned post. I saw a lot of other testimonies from people who had been members for a long time.
I continued with the lessons until the end, the reason was if I stick to the lessons to the very end, my friend would also be willing to give me a chance to understand my perspective and why I don't believe in the scj doctrine and practices. He is the same person who was impressed with my perception and even saying its God who gives such understanding. I was disappointed to realize he wouldn't think maybe the same God made me realise somerhing early on about this group. So it meant that it was only God if I agreed with what they were saying.
I continued because I didn't want to judge before I heard everything. I also started looking up other high control groups like the Mormons, JWs and the mother god cult and was blown away at the similarities in the doctrines and practices. I left just before the signing of the book of life.
Anyway, I'm no longer in contact with my friend but I still love and care about him. I realise he is such a good person but he wasn't good to me and can't truly be good as long as he is stuck in that group. He will be fake, patronizing, lacking honesty and humility. He will be controlled and continue to ruin relationships with people who care for him the most. Its out of my control and I couldn't help. My only hope now is that there are so many people here who woke up after spending years in the organization so maybe it will happen for him too and if he does, I hope I will have the grace to receive him back to reality.
Your stories give hope. The years spent in the group and finally waking up, makes other people see the problems in the group and the courage to also speak up and help others to have their thoughts and feelings about the group validated. They can finally discern for themselves.

2024.05.15 14:31 DazzlingShiny130 The Sewed King

"The Sewed King is the name given to an hypothetical entity that originated from a corrupted fable weaved by editors, it all started with a world being written by one of those meta entities mentioned in Tales We Weave. Originally the story was supposed to be cheerful and happy, with not many details but being a narrative that could embody joy and happiness. It started with a brave and happy king living in a kingdom located near a beach, the king didn't had a queen or even kids but he was still happy as well his kingdom who was considered the strongest and happiest kingdom among all, no monarch could even understand the secret the king had to have such a perfect happy place. Eventually the king met a beautiful woman in which he fell in love and decided to marry her, and so the already happy kingdom won a new queen to rule over them"
"Though the narrative seemed short, simple, and cheerful something went severely wrong when it suddenly started self writing bad plots and replacing happy parts with horrific sentences, some sentences being extremely disgusting and horrible even for editors to read. Attempts to edit the narrative and rewrite it back as it used to be didn't seemed to work, and the narrative somewhat always returned to self write bad things. Seeing that nothing seemed to be working, the editors decided to rip and terminate the narrative of the happy king, deleting the story and ceasing it's existence. However this would only prove to be ineffective when several stories from the Collective Webs started behaving and presenting bad plots everywhere, with tragic and horrific scenes happening consecutively. Most of the times the story ended with the protagonist or either the people losing their limbs and members, and so the once simple narrative became a nightmare for editors to remove and purge since the influence of the Sewed King was spreading exponentially like a virus through the endlessly stories of the Collective Webs, attempting to rewrite all stories to become horror narratives instead. Aiming to stop the problem for once and for all, many editors gathered together in a final attempt to counter attack the horrific influence of the Sewed King before it could spread to the Primary Webs. It demanded more than eight thousand editors to purge the bad influence that was harming the Collective Webs and so the problem seemed to be once again terminated and closed (or at least is what they believed)"
"Due to the lack of informations it is almost impossible to describe when exactly the events of the Sewed King happened but it is assumed shortly after the narrative of the happy king was terminated. The Sewed King Is apparently only believed to be a event that corrupts narratives and creates horror stories wherever it's infection has spread further beyond the multiverse. While only believed to be something and not someone, the idea of the Sewed King being a entity wasn't discarded by editors due to patterns being observed in different stories, with them always ending with the characters being torn apart and a mysterious figure watching in the background. However nothing was confirmed and the idea of them being a actual entity remained hypothetical. When manifested in the story, The Sewed King will change the plot of the story and turn it into a horror story instead, making it end tragically for the protagonists most of the times"
**Trivia: -The name "Sewed King" was created by editors after noticing that most of the stories that were corrupted and infected by the horrific plot, had dead people with their limbs or members being sewed like if it was ripped off their body and sitched back into them
-There are currently no solid evidences to confirm the Sewed King is a entity instead of a event
-Things such as personality or appearance are also inapplicable to the Sewed King due to the fact of them having never appeared psychically, remaining as an hypothetical being instead
-Reports points that this anomaly somewhat embodies horroterror plots and writing, representing the detrimental side of the narrative's plot**
------Poem of the Happy King-------
Once upon a time, there existed an kingdom located near an beach where it was ruled by its brave and happy monarch, the king didn't had offsprings and neither a queen but he was still happy and confident in eventually finding a woman to give continuation to his bloodline. Everything in the kingdom was always cheerful and happy, the residents were satisfied with their monarch and so peace ruled over the kingdom for decades till the most happiest day when the king found the perfect woman to be his queen, and so the marriage happened with the entire kingdom being invited for the ceremony and crowning of the queen. After the crowning of the queen and days celebrating the new queen the kingdom thrived and grew in prosperity and power becoming even happier than it was. And so The King and the Queen lived happily together and forever.

  • Similar to the rain effects from the Rainmaker manager battle and Toontown Rewritten's Bossbot HQ area, so this is already implemented in a way.
Concept Images:
Times are gloomy in Toontown Central..
Now Barnacle Boatyards looking more like a sea port!
Cheer up Toon, The storm will be over soon!
Really adds to the atmosphere, eh?
Wherever the Oil Storm is currently, a large cloud of smog would appear over that playground.
Alternative, with an icon along with the original dynamic cog invasion icon.
Attention all Toons! An Oil Storm is approaching!

How would Oil Storms work?

Implementation Method:
Allowing for dynamic control of the weather, an Oil Storm would be able to happen independently at specific playgrounds and districts at any time, For example: An Oil Storm could be at TTC, DDL, YOTT, BB, while the have none, while in another district it could be the opposite; no two playgrounds are bound to each other!
A way you could allow each playground to work independently is from the formula below.
  • Calculating Cog Building Impact
    • Every 15 minutes, the number of buildings in a playground is calculated to set a percentage value for Oil Storm likelihood.
    • This dynamic implementation is akin to how the Cog tier affects playground invasions in TTCC.
  • Logarithmic Curve Formula:
    • Formula: y = 1 - e^-z(x)
    • Variables:
      • x = Number of Cog Buildings in the playground.
      • y = Percentage chance (0 to 1) of starting an Oil Storm cycle (maximum 60% chance).
      • z = Variable controlling curve steepness (default -0.03).
      • e = Mathematical constant (approx. 2.71828).
  • Process:
    • Every 15 minutes, a number from 1 to 100 is rolled.
    • If the number is ≤ the percentage, Oil Storm occurs; if > the percentage, it doesn’t.
    • Toons in that playground receive a 5-minute warning via a Weather Forecast alert to evacuate or prepare for Oil Storm.
Real-World Test Data (at Midnight Toontown Time):
Anvil Acres and Geyser Gulch were the least populated districts without invasions, and High-Dive Hills was the most popular district with an invasion.
Playground Anvil Acres Geyser Gulch High-Dive Hills
Toontown Central 6 7 1
Barnacle Boatyard 20 20 19
Ye Olde Toontowne 18 18 17
Daffodil Gardens 18 18 17
Mezzo Melodyland 31 31 31
The Brrrgh 30 30 30
Acorn Acres 28 28 28
Drowsy Dreamland 29 30 30
Hmm, I noticed a very distinct pattern here... Anyways, putting these values into the Formula would give a
  • Calculated Maximum Values for Oil Storm Chance:
    • Toontown Central: 19%
    • Barnacle Boatyard: 45%
    • Ye Olde Toontowne: 42%
    • Daffodil Gardens: 42%
    • Mezzo Melodyland: 61%
    • The Brrrgh: 59%
    • Acorn Acres: 57%
    • Drowsy Dreamland: 59%
I think these values are fine as this is for the maximum building values that I encountered which would be rare during peak times, but the z variable can be altered to change the results of each district separately.

Combating Oil Storms

There should be a way that Toons can combat this Hour of Power.. Or Oil Rain.
Toon Strategy:
  • A Toon can combat an Oil Storm by taking over the Cog Buildings and decreasing the Cog Buildings in that playground, this in turn decreases the percentage chance that an Oil Rain cycle happens next cycle.

FAQ

Isn't this just the Rainmaker Oil Rain mechanic?
In the sense that...
While similar, The Oil Storm cycle provides a dynamic weather system to Corporate Clash (or Toontown Rewritten) making the game more immersive, adds lore, and adds more opportunities for different strategies to come into play, perchance. YOU CAN'T JUST SAY PERCHANCE.
Could the game even handle a Dynamic Weather cycle?
I don't know, I'm not a developer or staff member, but what I do know is there are a lot of strong willed people out there that have had the strength and courage to uplift a long gone videogame to bring into the future for not only the people of the past to enjoy what once was, but for newcomers to join and participate in such a wonderful game!
I'm talking to you, TTR and CC staff! \)and smaller servers, no offence meant.\)
Plus, concerning lag and performance issues, If Oil Storm cycles were implemented into the game, it wouldn't come close to the Acorn Acres' Waterfall. (BURN!) (someone call an Ambulance Chaser!)
Wouldn't this just clutter the game more than it is needed?
Perhaps, but with the fine tuning of the Toontown developers this mechanic could become something great! You could even make this an event as a Spring event only!
Here are some reasons why Oil Storm cycles would benefit Toontown:
  • Enhances Gameplay Depth
    • Dynamic Challenges
      • Oil Storm introduces dynamic environmental challenges that keep gameplay fresh and engaging, preventing the experience from becoming monotonous and boring.
    • Strategic Planning
      • Players need to strategize and adapt to changing conditions, which adds a layer of depth and complexity to their gameplay decisions.
  • Offers Meaningful Rewards
    • Increased Incentives
      • The mechanic provides substantial rewards, such as 3x Cog Promotion Merits, extra Experience Points, and a higher chance of rare Manager Stickers, which incentivize players to engage with the new feature.
    • Optional Engagement
      • Toons have the choice to either face the Storm for rewards or avoid it, giving them control over their gameplay experience.
  • Integrates Seamlessly with Existing Mechanics
    • Familiar Visuals
      • The visual effects of Oil Storm are similar to existing weather effects in the game, ensuring consistency and familiarity for players.
    • Proven Mechanics
      • The implementation leverages existing game mechanics (e.g., particle effects from the Rainmaker manager battle), ensuring technical feasibility and reducing the risk of introducing bugs or performance issues.
  • Enhances Game Lore and Immersion
    • Narrative Depth
      • The Oil Storm mechanic ties into the game’s lore, explaining the environmental impact of Cog activities and enriching the game's narrative.
    • Immersive Experience
      • The changing weather conditions add to the immersive experience, making the game world feel more alive and responsive to in-game actions. This would be akin to when they first animated the street props when the silly meter was unveiled long ago.
  • Promotes Player Cooperation and Engagement
    • Community Goals
      • Encourages players to work together to reduce Cog buildings and prevent Oil Storms, fostering a sense of community and shared objectives.
    • New Task Lines
      • The Oil Storm cycle could add new Task lines to the game, increasing playability and rewards for Toons to achieve!
    • Active Participation
      • Keeps players engaged with continuous, time-sensitive goals, motivating them to log in and participate more frequently.
The addition of a weather cycle not only enhances gameplay and visuals, but also incentivizes the player into defeating more Cogs and buildings, enriching the game's lore and offering new challenges and rewards for players.
*Be aware that none of this concept is limited to itself, It is entirely up the the game developers to pick and choose what would be best for addition into the game!
And hey, this isn't limited to Corporate Clash, would anyone like a Space Toontown Server Race? Heheh. I hope I have been clear on my concept and have gotten your attention thus far. Feel free to comment your ideas below.
Thank you all, and have a Toontastic day!

About me: My Toon name is Green Dawg and I've been playing Toontown since 2008. I also have a website I built myself for Toons that need help with cog promotions.
You can find it by searching "Green Dawgs Guide", Check it out!
TL;DR: This is just a big excuse to get real time weather cycles into the game.

Article text:
By Caitlin McKinnon For The Salt Lake Tribune May 10, 2024, 8:05 a.m.
Motherhood. One the most demanding yet essential duties that billions of women have shouldered since the beginning of time. Yet, in society’s efforts to support this role, many unintended consequences have caused women to deviate from and postpone motherhood.
While there are the obvious reasons for delaying children: contraception, education, career plans, there are other reasons why I have been turned off to motherhood for most of my young adult life.
Growing up, many of my female role models were stay-at-home mothers. I observed their housekeeping, unconditional support of their husbands, moral contributions to the family and accessibility. I also observed postpartum depression, silent tears, disordered eating, worried nights and a lack of personal time. I admire them so much, but for a long time, motherhood scared me. It’s scary to think that once I become a mother, my body and personhood could be objectified, held hostage by idealized yet unattainable standards and evaluated by my body’s usefulness. Society’s pervasive maternal objectification causes women to self-objectify before they even become mothers.
As I reflected on this disconnect between how society encourages motherhood while simultaneously undervaluing the individual women in these roles, I was reminded of “the Madonna-whore complex.” This term, first coined by Sigmund Freud to support his Oedipal theories, describes a phenomenon that still permeates our societal views of gender. Originally meant to dichotomize female characteristics and sexuality into two parts, Madonna and whore, it is now a belief that perpetuates patriarchal oppression. Madonna refers to chaste, virtuous and motherly traits, while whore refers to promiscuous, easy and hypersexual traits. This has influenced how most men and women have internalized women’s bodies and purposes.
Women are often expected to fulfill roles and expectations that benefit men. When women are objectified, they are only seen in the role they are placed in. Society’s obsession with women’s bodies and agency is overtly seen in the sexualization of women, particularly in media. Maternal objectification is when women are seen as a literal object, a “human incubator” or “womb for rent,” and are “treated as bodies that exist for the use or consumption of others, stripped of their individuality and personality.
Motherhood, though extremely necessary and remarkable, is undervalued. This contributes to objectification since it celebrates women for their body’s usefulness and dismisses the broad range of women’s experiences.
Once a woman becomes and shows she is pregnant, there is a cultural invitation to maternally objectify the woman’s body and identity. A recent systematic review of 23 studies on the objectification of motherhood found patterns of objectification at the hands of others and oneself. By others, many women experience a loss of autonomy especially with nonconsensual belly-touching, comments about one’s weight and appearance, and frequent questioning about when they’ll have another baby. One may cause self-objectification by adopting an outsider’s “perspective on one’s body and value.” Self-objectifying causes a disconnect between an individual and their body and correlates with postpartum depression, disordered eating, body shame, negative beliefs about breastfeeding and fear of childbirth. Even those who do not have children may start to self-objectify their body, forsaking personal identity for societal utility.
What are the consequences of maternal objectification? Women are not seen as individuals and are treated as flattened caricatures labeled as “mother.” When I was in first-grade filling out a Mother’s Day card for my mom, I was asked what her favorite thing to do was. I put “folding laundry.” It was not until I grew up that I realized how little I actually knew about my mom as a person. On top of stripping women of their unique personalities, maternal objectification also leads to isolation as some women may feel like their efforts are not enough or they do not meet the traditional stay-at-home image. This is detrimental for women as they contemplate motherhood, are in the thick of it or interact with other mothers.
So what can be done? Dr. Julie Hanks gave a TedTalk reframing motherhood from a role to a relationship. A central principle for this shift is valuing women in all their responsibilities and achievements, whether that includes motherhood or not, instead of idealizing motherhood as a role. In regards to self-objectification, women should see motherhood as a relationship, an opportunity to connect.
Another way to move away from maternal objectification is to recognize women as multi-dimensional. If mothers rely on all aspects of their identity in their endeavors, not only does their personhood remain intact but the idea of motherhood is expanded. Women can set themselves free from the false narrative that motherhood needs to be perfect. Forcing women in the Madonna-whore binary perpetuates objectification and causes harm.
Let us stop labeling and reducing mothers to a role when they are so much more than that.

The Story So Far
Pixel Gill started as a token with immense promise, inspired by the narrative of Keith Gill and his legendary stock market moves. Unfortunately, the original developers couldn't keep up with the market pressures, and the token's value plummeted. But in the face of adversity, a story emerged that sparked a new hope.
In our Telegram chat, one of our members shared his experience of investing in Pixel Gill. He told us how, while eating cereal, he cried as he watched the token’s chart dive. His cereal tasted like tears, but he decided he wouldn't go down like that. His resolve to stand back up and rally the community marked the beginning of our revival journey.
The Plan
Here's what we propose:
Community Reorganization:
Form Committees: Let's create specialized committees (Marketing, Development, Community Engagement) to focus on different aspects of the project.
Elect Leaders: Democratically elect leaders for each committee to ensure transparency and accountability.
Rebrand and Relaunch:
New Website and Branding: Update the website and create fresh, engaging visuals that reflect our renewed vision.
Social Media Blitz: Launch coordinated social media campaigns to reignite interest and attract new investors.
Development and Utility:
Enhance Utility: Develop new features or partnerships that increase the utility of Pixel Gill.
Transparency: Regular updates and transparent communication about progress and plans.
Community Engagement:
Interactive Events: Host AMAs, contests, and community meetings to keep the excitement alive.
Reward Participation: Implement a system to reward active members of the community with tokens or special privileges.
Why Pixel Gill?
Nostalgia: Many of us have fond memories and believe in the core idea behind Pixel Gill.
Potential: Despite its current state, the project still holds untapped potential that we can unlock together.
Community Spirit: We believe in the power of community, and the crypto world thrives on collective effort and passion.
Get Involved
Join our Telegram group and be part of the conversation. Let’s brainstorm, organize, and execute this revival plan together. Whether you’re a developer, marketer, designer, or just a passionate community member, we need your skills and enthusiasm.
Let’s show the world that Pixel Gill is not dead, just getting started!
Conclusion
Together, we can turn things around and make Pixel Gill a success story that inspires the entire crypto community. Let's do this!
