2024.05.15 02:54 coolsmokey69 Anyone have tools/tips/spreadsheets to help evaluate organizational depth charts/future rosters?

Hey Ya'll I'm in year three of my Portland expansion save, and now that I've made tons of trades and boosted my minor league system, I was hoping to organize it a little with the help of some tools or spreadsheets.
The problem I'm facing (and always have faced) is trying to make sense of what my future rostelineup/pitching staff will look like based on the prospects I have, their age and MLB ETA.
I've looked online for organizational depth chart spreadsheets and am having no luck.
Curious if you guys have any resources that help you manage your minor leagues/depth charts/future rosters?

Benefits

Advantages

Annual billing, on the other hand, provides cost savings for those willing to commit to a longer period upfront. Subscribers often receive discounts or incentives when opting for an annual payment plan, resulting in lower overall costs compared to monthly billing. This option is ideal for users or businesses looking to save money in the long run by managing data.

Pricing Structures Comparison

When comparing the pricing structures between monthly and annual plans, it's essential to consider factors such as total cost, payment frequency, and budgeting preferences. Monthly plans offer more immediate flexibility but may cost more over time, while annual plans provide savings but require a larger upfront investment.

Unleashing the Potential of Waste Heat: A Comprehensive Exploration of Heat Recovery Units

Introduction:

Welcome to the forefront of energy conservation innovation! Today, we embark on a journey into the realm of heat recovery units (HRUs) and their transformative impact on energy utilization. Picture this: reclaiming and repurposing heat that would otherwise dissipate into the atmosphere during industrial operations or HVAC processes. It's a paradigm shift in resource management, and the ripple effects are profound. Join us as we delve into the intricacies of HRUs, unraveling their multifaceted benefits and elucidating the mechanisms driving their success.
Heat Recovery Units

The Significance of Harnessing Waste Heat:

At the heart of the matter lies the environmental imperative. By intercepting and reutilizing waste heat, businesses engender a ripple effect of positive outcomes. First and foremost, there's a palpable reduction in reliance on additional energy generation, thereby curbing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. This symbiotic relationship between energy conservation and environmental stewardship underscores the pivotal role of HRUs in sustainable development.
Yet, the allure of HRUs extends beyond environmental stewardship; it permeates the realm of fiscal prudence. The immediate dividend? Substantial savings on energy expenditures. By optimizing the utilization of existing heat reservoirs, businesses mitigate the need for incessant heating or cooling, culminating in tangible cost reductions over time. The economic rationale for embracing HRUs is compelling, aligning financial prudence with ecological responsibility.
Moreover, HRUs epitomize operational efficiency in its purest form. Conventional heating and cooling systems often operate sub-optimally, squandering precious energy resources in the process. HRUs, conversely, harness latent heat with surgical precision, amplifying overall efficiency and productivity. In essence, they represent a convergence of sustainability and profitability—a testament to the symbiotic relationship between economic prosperity and environmental integrity.

The Mechanics of Heat Recovery Units:

To comprehend the efficacy of HRUs, one must dissect their operational anatomy. At its essence, the process revolves around the meticulous capture and redistribution of waste heat from diverse sources—be it exhaust gases, industrial processes, or HVAC discharges. This captured heat is then channeled to requisite destinations, whether for heating water or preheating incoming air.
Central to the functionality of HRUs are an array of components working in harmonious synergy. Heat exchangers serve as the conduits for heat transfer, facilitating the seamless extraction and redistribution of thermal energy. Augmenting these exchangers are fans or blowers, orchestrating the flow of air essential for heat transference. Complementing this ensemble are sophisticated control systems, regulating the flux and distribution of heat with precision akin to a maestro conducting an orchestra. In some instances, supplementary heating or cooling elements are integrated, further optimizing thermal management.

Illustrative Examples of HRU Applications:

Consider a manufacturing juggernaut, pulsating with industrial fervor and emanating copious amounts of heat as a byproduct. Enter the HRU, poised to capture this surplus heat and repurpose it for pragmatic ends. By diverting excess heat to preheat water for boiler systems, the HRU engenders a virtuous cycle of energy conservation, heralding substantial savings and environmental dividends.
Moreover, within the realm of HVAC optimization, HRUs equipped with chilled water (CHW) coils or direct expansion (DX) coils wield transformative potential. Picture a commercial edifice, ensconced in the comforting embrace of optimal climate control. Through the judicious integration of HRUs, this utopian vision becomes reality, as waste heat is harnessed to achieve low dew point supply air temperatures, fostering enhanced comfort and efficiency.

Embarking on the HRU Journey:

Excited to embark on your HRU odyssey? Here's a comprehensive roadmap to guide your endeavors:
  1. Conduct a Thorough Facility Assessment: Undertake a meticulous audit to delineate potential sources of waste heat and quantify the recoverable thermal bounty. This foundational step lays the groundwork for informed decision-making regarding HRU implementation.
  2. Select the Optimal HRU System: Armed with insights garnered from the facility assessment, embark on the quest to select the ideal HRU system tailored to your unique requirements. Consider variables such as heat source characteristics, spatial constraints, and budgetary considerations. Collaborate with seasoned HVAC engineers or energy consultants to navigate this labyrinth of options judiciously.
  3. Facilitate Seamless Installation: With the chosen HRU system in hand, transition seamlessly into the installation phase. Whether enlisting professional expertise or leveraging in-house talent, prioritize adherence to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory stipulations. A meticulous installation lays the foundation for optimal HRU performance and longevity.
  4. Cultivate a Culture of Monitoring and Maintenance: Post-installation, vigilance becomes paramount. Cultivate a culture of proactive monitoring and maintenance to ensure sustained HRU efficacy. Schedule routine inspections, calibrations, and cleanings to preemptively mitigate potential impediments to performance.

Real-Life Testimonials of HRU Triumphs:

Still harboring reservations? Allow real-world anecdotes to assuage your doubts:
  • Industrial Marvel: A titanic industrial conglomerate embraced HRU technology across its panoply of production facilities, heralding a seismic reduction in energy overheads and carbon emissions. The dividends of this paradigm shift reverberated across the organizational landscape, underscoring the transformative potential of HRUs in industrial settings.
  • Healthcare Oasis: Within the sanctum of a bustling hospital, HRUs emerged as beacons of efficiency and comfort. By integrating HRUs equipped with CHW coils into HVAC systems, the hospital leveraged waste heat to precool incoming supply air, fostering a salubrious environment conducive to patient recovery and staff well-being.

Conclusion:

In denouement, the ascendancy of heat recovery units heralds a new epoch in energy conservation and sustainability. Whether poised at the helm of industrial behemoths or ensconced within the confines of healthcare sanctuaries, HRUs epitomize the convergence of environmental stewardship and economic prudence. Embrace the mantle of innovation, and chart a course towards a greener, more efficient future—one propelled by the transformative potential of heat recovery technology.

2024.05.11 03:42 mining_moron Alien Languages are Alien Road to Hope

As was (maybe) previously stated, Kyanah don't have distinct languages with specific labels, yet this does not mean that they all share a common language. The vernacular tends to differ slightly from city-state to city-state; in the next city-state over, there might only be a few small spelling and pronunciation changes or some differences in handling obscure grammatical edge cases, but as one goes further and further away, the differences quickly accumulate. In most regions of the world, it's possible to understand the language up to a few hundred kilometers away from one's home city-state without dedicated study, but there's no hard-and-fast boundary where one language "ends" and another "begins". For this reason, linguistic aptitude is not a function of how many languages a particular Kyanah knows, but how large of an area they can make themselves understood in. Many of the specific vocabulary and grammatical structures used in Ikun are understood by educated Kyanah in other parts of the world, and tend to be used in settings where packs from many different regions of the world, with few or no linguistic features in common, must communicate, such as science or diplomacy. Due to Ikun's soft power and large-scale internet footprint, this is especially common in Net Zone 1; most but not all online content from this region is at least somewhat understandable to Kyanah from Ikun.
Notably, Kyanah have a syrinx rather than a larynx, meaning that their spoken languages are not pronounceable by humans and they also generally cannot pronounce human languages. Their typical vocalizations tend to sound like a mixture of rapid-fire grunts, hisses and chirps or screeches, which can vary considerably in pitch and cadence--not too dissimilar from how small theropods are believed to have sounded. Various low-pitched bellows and roars appear to be used in the same manner as shouting, being used to be heard across long distances, draw attention, or express anger. Naturally, this has presented considerable difficulties in translating proper nouns. With nothing else to go on, they have been forced to simply do a one-to-one replacement of the characters in their proper nouns with those in the Latin alphabet that most closely resemble them; humans have altered the conversion charts slightly in order to produce more consistently coherent and pronounceable results. Thus, for instance, the label "Kyanah" is simply a human construct and sounds absolutely nothing like what they call their species in their (as in, the soldiers from Ikun city-state) own spoken language. Actual communication between species was initially done through ad hoc gesticulation and amalgamations of human and Kyanah sign languages, which was gradually formalized in the first few years of the invasion, as well as occasionally communicating through writing or drawing when practical. By the end of the war, reliable inter-species machine translation and text-to-speech software would be developed, and in the subsequent years, this would advance to BCI devices that could generate speech in real-time, although not particularly reliable. Interestingly, even Kyanah who have a high base vocabulary of human words seem to struggle significantly with things like modifiers and word ordering, as their own languages tend to handle them in a radically different fashion.
For instance, over 95% of Kyanah writing systems organize words into binary trees rather than linear sentences, with children being semantically related to parents (e.g. subject and object, modifier and modified etc.). Linear scripts, while not unheard of, tend to be rare and associated with more primitive cultures, regardless of whether they're left to right, right to left, or top to bottom. It generally is not particularly important which words are the parent, left child, and right child; the writer chooses in order to optimize the aesthetics of their sentence-trees or place emphasis on a particular word. The nature of the semantic relationship between parents and children in the sentence-trees is denoted not by words comprised of characters, but by special markings called decorators, which in spoken language are expressed using subtle variations in tone, cadence, and volume, while in written language, they take the form of different types of lines between parent and child words. In most languages, decorators are also used for such things as prepositions, conjunctions, and tenses instead of using actual words for such things, resulting in all words referring to specific things or concepts, instead of having glue words that tie together other words or word groups like many human languages do. For instance, "You are eating", "You ate", "You will eat", "Are you eating?", and "Eat" (as an imperative command) all use the exact same words, with the difference lying in the decorators (or the tone/cadence/volume variations if spoken). It gets wilder, in Ikun, "Are the nyrud or the tyukrud in the field?" and "The nyrud and the tyukrud are out of the field." also use the exact same words. It's thus possible, in some cases, to meaningfully answer a question, especially a yes-no question, by simply repeating it back! (Albeit with variations in how the words are said, and with the caveat that simply "False" would be a much more succinct and natural response in this context.) For obvious reasons, decorators are dreaded by any humans attempting to learn Kyanah writing, and explain why Kyanah have an odd tendency to drop glue words and struggle with tenses when using human writing systems. In general, having a syrinx instead of a less complicated larynx allows them to make their vocalizations more compact by expressing a broader range of sounds, making the use of decorators instead of full words to save time a practical option.
Pronouns are another key difference; Kyanah have a whole set between singular and plural pronouns that they use to refer to packs, leaving human translators to awkwardly bounce between them when trying to translate these pronouns. Pack pronouns are a cultural universal for Kyanah; every single known language has them. It is customary to use pack pronouns when speaking to or about a member of another pack, even when only referring to that specific individual; using singular pronouns is usually a faux pas as it implies a higher-than-accurate degree of familiarity and intimacy, similar to a human walking up to a stranger and calling their spouse babe; or in the case of first-person singular, implies that the speaker is in some way deviating from their pack, if they have one. "I like nyrud steaks", when said to someone outside the speaker's pack, would for example strongly imply that the speaker's packmates in fact dislike nyrud steaks, and the speaker is the only one who likes them; saying it to another packmate however would have the connotation that humans would expect. The natural human tendency is to refer to packs using the plural pronouns, as they do in fact consist of multiple distinct individuals, but Kyanah would interpret this as referring to some vague, unspecified group, rather than their own pack. Additionally, as packs are atomic units in Kyanah society, occupying a single role and a single occupation, and being treated as one entity by their legal system, using plurals can create awkward statements in human languages and some meaning can be lost in translation.
Because the Kyanah use sentence-trees rather than linear sentences, languages aren't categorized into subject-verb-object, object-verb-subject, etc. but rather but the method in which the trees are traversed. Around 50% of the homeworld's population uses in-order traversal (left-child parent right-child), while 30%, including Ikun city-state, use pre-order traversal (parent left-child right-child) and the remaining 20% use post-order traversal (left-child right-child parent). To preserve the binary tree structure and prevent sentence-trees from exploding in size when dealing with many subjects/objects/etc. at once, lists of words with the same role in the sentence are placed into containers so as to occupy a single node. Kyanah sentence-trees can go on indefinitely as long as they are focusing on a singular subject; if the primary subject changes, a new sentence-tree must be started. Traditional Kyanah writing involves ornate sentence-trees shaped into aesthetically pleasing or meaningful shapes and sentence-trees are arranged on the page in a visually significant way; this sort of writing is roughly analogous to human calligraphy. Such niceties are typically ignored when typing on computers, in the name of efficiency and ease of programming. Instead, sentence-trees are automatically configured into rigid, standardized shapes and arranged on the page in such a way as to minimize wasted space, while still allowing for the creation of multiple threads. Naturally, traditional-minded Kyanah have been complaining about this since the invention of the computer, saying that it strips away subtle meaning and emotion from the text. However, the desire for efficiency has generally overruled such concerns in mainstream society.
Sentence-trees can be placed anywhere on the page, rather than following a particular order, though there is usually a clearly defined starting and ending point to a sequence; when the next tree in the sequence is not obvious from the position and orientation of the previous one, there is usually some arrow or other marker to point the path. Written works usually contain multiple sequences, each of which will take its own individual path around the page, and each of which is (at least primarily) written by a particular pack member. For this reason, written works are generally meant to be read by a pack collectively, with each member following one thread and later switching threads or explaining relevant aspects to each other if needed. Written works can be read by a single individual, but this requires the reader to frequently context switch between disparate threads that may only be loosely related to each other at times. Single threaded works do exist, but they are considered a separate form of art from mainstream, multi-threaded Kyanah literature. Multi-threaded literature is a direct descendent of story-threads, an ancient Kyanah art form and pastime that likely predates recorded history by a long shot, where members of a pack will take turns speaking sentences to collaboratively build a story. Good ones are sometimes written down and published, allowing other packs to enjoy them (sometimes even hundreds or thousands of years later), with each member of a pack choosing a thread and taking turns reading aloud their part of the story-thread and reenacting it. Interestingly, it is not just literature that is written this way; even textbooks, manuals, and research papers are all written in the same multi-threaded manner, and are likewise designed to be read by an entire pack.
There are plenty of distinct quirks between the different linguistic practices (using the term "language" may be a misnomer as linguistic practices tend to be continuous instead of being divided into discrete languages) in different parts of the world. Other than sentence-tree traversal, some of the most important differences center around the structure of words themselves. In most northern hemisphere scripts, characters represent sounds and have no intrinsic meaning on their own, while words are created by chaining these characters together based on the chronological order that they are pronounced. In southern hemisphere scripts, characters usually represent a few hundred basic objects and concepts and words are created by combining them, either in a linear chain or a graph-like structure, and the graphs tend to have their own unique algorithms for traversing them when reading or speaking, making such linguistic practices among the hardest to learn. For instance, in Kanenhah, "nuke" can be written (or spoken) by combining the characters for "made" (as in, made by Kyanah, not natural), "sun", and "egg" into a graph where the first two connect to the third, while in Koranah, the same word created by linearly chaining characters for "place" and "destroy" plus decorators to make the literal meaning "place destroyer" (which are written and pronounced somewhat differently from Kanenhah's characters for "place" and "destroy"). As an aside--the explanation for why there are so many broad and sweeping changes in language style and culture in general between the northern and southern hemispheres (a divide similar in many ways to the Western and Eastern worlds on Earth) is that impact ranges tend to cluster around the equator, which historically made travel between hemispheres much more difficult than travel within hemispheres. (I totally thought that through ahead of time, and didn't just make it up to retroactively justify the north-south divide.)

2024.05.10 02:13 Emotional_Criticism4 What part of the mindset can I use for this question? Why is an ishikawa/pareto chart a better answer?

I try to ignore these expert questions in SH because of this, but the reality is that there are several expert questions in the exam that I failed yesterday. (~%70 in SH).
I'm trying to apply and understand the mindset but it obviously hasn't worked for me.
What part of the mindset can I use for this question? Why is using BOTH a Ishikawa and pareto chart a better answer? According to the answer in bold below a brainstorming session could be the first step in solving the problem.
Question: A project is challenged by a multitude of problems resulting in defects and stakeholder complaints. The project manager has been contemplating a quick and effective approach to address the problems.
Which two actions should the project manager take? (Choose two)
  1. A.Gather the project team members and have a brainstorming session.
  2. B.Refer to the organizational process assets (OPAs) to assess lessons learned.
  3. C.Use a trend analysis to engage some of the project team members.
  4. D.Use an Ishikawa diagram to help identify the problems.
  5. E.Use a Pareto chart to identify how the challenges of the project should be addressed.
Solution: D and E. Use an Ishikawa diagram to help identify the problems. and Use a Pareto chart to identify how the challenges of the project should be addressed.
The Ishikawa/fish-bone diagram can be used in a systematic identification of problems as well as their origins. The output of this exercise could be used to develop the Pareto chart to indicate the 20% of the cause problems which when addressed would eliminate 80% of current challenges.
This question and rationale were developed in reference to:
Mastering Project Time Management, Cost Control, and Quality Management (No Date) Randal Wilson//Chapter 14/ [Item Cause-and-Effect Diagram
Also known as a fishbone diagram or Ishikawa diagram, this diagram evaluates a noncompliance condition for potential root cause. Figure 14.1 illustrates a cause-and-effect diagram in which the noncompliance condition is placed at the far right and lines are drawn to the left to progressively allow for various potential failure modes to be recorded and evaluated. Cause-and-effect diagrams are commonly used in conjunction with brainstorming to determine root cause analysis.

2024.05.09 23:18 ITHeadInLimbo [Germany] Company closed startup, trying to fire me despite 10+ years of employment and special protection status

I f35 have been working in the IT department of a company for over 10 years. In 2022, I signed a new contract as the Head of IT in a 100% startup subsidiary of the company. The contract clearly states my 10+ years of employment with the parent company.
Recently, the startup was closed, and everyone was fired. According to the law, I should have at least a 5-month notice period. They tried to fire me as well, but I filed a lawsuit for protection against dismissal with my lawyer. I am also considered equal to a severely disabled person, and my employer did not obtain permission from the Integration Office, so they were not allowed to terminate my employment.
During this time, after the notice of termination, I was offered a new contract at the parent company to return to my old job. I declined, as it no longer included the Head of IT position or employee responsibilities. My lawyer then requested a clean settlement and a forced separation. In response, the company's lawyer only stated that I was refusing to work and that they would not pay me any severance. Thus, no agreement was reached.
Now they want to fire me again, with the request to end my employment by the end of April in the application form to the Integration Office. However, the notice only arrived in early May, so there was no possibility to terminate my employment in April.
In parallel, they are already trying to assign me tasks that are not from my employer (the startup) but from the parent company.
Now, my lawyer has received a new letter from the company's lawyer stating that they want to accommodate me after all this and are now offering me a Head of IT position. This position does not exist in the organizational chart to date, and I have no information about what my duties would be or which team I would lead.
I feel fooled. They are probably just writing the title "Head of IT" in there now to give me stupid work, as they tried before. They want to keep my current salary.
What should I do? Should I remain firm and file another lawsuit for protection against dismissal, risking not getting a job or severance pay? Or should I take the job and sit it out?
Yes, text is written by ai from my brain fog of all this that happened. But it clearly shows my state :-/

2024.05.09 10:29 hevinjose7 Why You Should Use Custom Fields in Project Management Software?

In the world of project management and marketing, efficiency and organization are paramount. Keeping track of tasks, timelines, and team members can be a complex and sometimes overwhelming process. That's where project management software for marketing comes in. These tools offer a centralized platform to manage projects, collaborate with team members, and keep everyone on the same page. However, to truly tailor your project management software to your specific needs, custom fields can be a game-changer.
Custom fields are a feature offered by many project management software applications that allow users to add unique data fields, beyond the standard options provided. These fields can be tailored to your specific project, team, and organizational requirements. In this blog post, we'll explore why you should consider using custom fields in your project management software and how they can benefit your projects and your team.
https://preview.redd.it/ftvdni613dzc1.jpg?width=586&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8acc183695294c3f8f60cafe605e8d8f3447dd96

Tailored Data Collection

One of the most significant advantages of using custom fields is the ability to collect and store data that is specific to your project and organization. While most project management software comes with standard fields for tasks, due dates, and assignees, your projects may require additional information. Custom fields let you create data points that are unique to your project's needs, enabling you to collect and store information that matters most to your team.
For example, if you're managing a marketing campaign, you may want to track the estimated budget for each task or the status of graphics design approval. Custom fields allow you to capture this data directly within your project management software, ensuring that all relevant information is readily available and easily searchable.

Improved Data Organization

Custom fields provide an effective way to categorize and organize your project data. You can use custom fields to label, tag, or classify tasks and projects based on your specific criteria. This can be especially useful in large projects with numerous tasks and sub-projects, as it allows you to sort and filter data in a way that makes sense to your team.
For instance, in software development, you could create a custom field to label tasks as "Front-End" or "Back-End" to help developers and project managers quickly identify the type of work associated with each task. This categorization not only streamlines communication but also helps you manage resources more effectively.

Enhanced Reporting

Custom fields can greatly improve your reporting capabilities within your project management software. By capturing project-specific data, you can generate customized reports that provide insights into your project's progress and performance. Whether you need to create financial reports, progress charts, or resource allocation summaries, custom fields enable you to tailor your reports to match your project's unique requirements.
For example, if you're managing a construction project, you could create custom fields to track materials used, labor hours, and equipment rentals. With this data, you can generate detailed cost reports to keep your project on budget and make informed decisions regarding resource allocation.

Increased Accountability

Accountability is a cornerstone of successful project management. Custom fields can help promote accountability by allowing you to assign specific attributes to tasks and team members. For instance, you can create custom fields to designate the primary responsible team member for each task, or you can mark tasks with "priority" or "urgency" labels to indicate their importance.
With these custom fields in place, it becomes easier for team members to understand their roles and priorities. It also helps project managers track task progress more effectively, as they can use custom fields to identify bottlenecks and areas where additional support is needed.

Streamlined Workflows

Efficiency is a key goal in project management. Custom fields can play a vital role in streamlining your project workflows. By capturing critical information and context within your project management software, you can create automated workflows based on specific triggers or conditions set in custom fields.
A good example of this is if you're managing an e-commerce website development project, you can use custom fields to indicate the stage of development for each product category. Once a category reaches a specific stage, such as "Ready for Review," an automated notification can be triggered to inform the quality assurance team to start their testing process. This automation saves time, reduces manual intervention, and ensures that tasks progress seamlessly through the project lifecycle.

Better Communication

Clear and effective communication is essential in project management. Custom fields can improve communication by providing additional context and information for team members. Whether it's details about client requirements, project specifications, or other specific data, custom fields enable you to attach or reference this information directly within the task or project.
If you're handling a client project that involves web design, you can create custom fields to capture client feedback and requirements for each webpage. This allows designers and developers to have all the necessary information at their fingertips, reducing the need for back-and-forth email exchanges and ensuring that everyone stays on the same page.

Adaptability to Change

Project management is dynamic, and project requirements can change over time. Custom fields offer the flexibility to adapt to these changes easily. When new data requirements arise or existing ones evolve, you can modify or add custom fields as needed. This adaptability is crucial for staying agile and responsive in a constantly changing business environment.
For instance, if you're managing an agile software development project, you can introduce custom fields to track new user story points, sprint goals, or emerging risks. The ability to adjust your data fields ensures that your project management software for marketing continues to align with your project's evolving needs.

Increased Team Engagement

Engaging your team members and stakeholders is crucial for project success. Custom fields can play a role in this by allowing team members to contribute and provide feedback on specific aspects of a project. For instance, you can create custom fields for team members to rate their satisfaction with the project's progress, share their insights, or provide suggestions for improvement.
This level of engagement not only makes team members feel heard and valued but can also lead to valuable insights and improvements in your project management processes.
Custom fields are a powerful feature in project management software for marketing that can significantly enhance your project's efficiency and organization. They allow you to collect, organize, and report on data that is specific to your project's requirements, increasing accountability, improving communication, and streamlining workflows.
Custom fields provide the adaptability and flexibility necessary to keep up with the dynamic nature of projects. They also foster team engagement and ensure that your enterprise project management software is a tailored tool that meets the unique needs of your projects and organization.
So, if you're looking to take your project management to the next level and gain a competitive edge, consider using custom fields in your project management software. The benefits they offer can make a world of difference in how you plan, execute, and succeed in your future projects!

2024.05.09 04:13 whimsicalsasquatch39 [TX] Toxic Dynamic

My husband is not on Reddit but I’m posting this on his behalf:
I am a licensed engineer in an engineering firm. The admin that’s in our small group is technically on the same level as I am. Due to the small size of our group within our firm, we have a very flat organizational structure, with everyone reporting to one senior VP in the firm. However, she seems to think that because she’s been in our firm for more years than many of our engineers (including myself), that she has seniority over the group. This doesn’t mean that I, or my colleagues, are entry level engineers, I have nearly 10 years of experience and my coworker (our lead and also a licensed engineer) has 15 years. For example, she calls herself a Senior Project Coordinator when her technical term in our organizational chart is Admin Support Staff. Lately she’s been trying to delegate her job onto us. For example, her position requires invoicing, scanning, data entry, etc and she strong arms our lead into doing invoices and data entry ourselves on top of convincing corporate to hire a temp to take on any scanning. This is not part of the job description for the majority of the employees in our office. There have been several moments that I’ve found myself frustrated, because she talks to us in a belittling manner (as if we’re her subordinates), tasks me to do things that are in her duties, and will often talk passive aggressively to our actual boss in group workload meetings when he asks about what her tasks are. She also tries implementing new group wide SOPs essentially monthly at this point which is leading to a lot of confusion and inefficiencies with some of our new staff. She seems to have a dire need for rank/ title/ or to be someone’s manager and essentially is taking a loose interpretation of our small and flat organizational structure to assume she is a de facto manager of an engineering group. When I bring my frustrations with these type of things to my colleagues and even our boss I am told to just ignore her (which I’ve tried doing for the last 2 years but is kind of impossible in a group of less than 10 employees and that I share a cubicle wall with her).
She has reported our boss to HR for “being short/ passive aggressive” towards her, which makes our boss hesitant to call her out on behavior. My wife says that I need to report her behavior to HR but I’m clueless as to how I could even navigate this, without coming off as a petty disagreement amongst coworkers. I’m naturally conflict averse and am not looking to get her fired, but I also feel that she needs to understand that she’s over stepping her bounds and is creating a toxic environment.
Any advice?

2024.05.04 22:56 Healthy_Repair5541 From Organizational Welfare to Business Success

Link: https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychology/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2017.00720/full
Title: Editorial: From Organizational Welfare to Business Success: Higher Performance in Healthy Organizational Environments
I found this editorial in Frontiers in Psychology, which is a somewhat low-impact (3.8) open-access journal which sometimes covers organizational behavior and industrial-organizational psychology. This special issue was just about articles which appraise worker health and business performance, and this editorial summarizes those.
Personally, I found every one of the articles described in this editorial lacking: all of them appraise the workers on a one-by-one basis. Most of the studies here are based on surveys of the workers as individuals, and the researchers did not try to appraise where the workers fit in the organization or how they related to other workers except by questioning them directly. None of them had any attempt to place them in an org chart, or to appraise the validity of the org charts, or to examine the relationships between one worker and another except in terms of how each worker answers questions individually. That is, if one worker said that they had a good relationship with their manager, there was no attempt to go to the manager's survey responses and find out of the manager also thinks they have a good relationship with that employee. This sort of lack of systems thinking is very common in this kind of research.
And as an aside, when a researcher goes to each individual employee but doesn't really put their answers in an organizational context, it comes across as somewhat victim-blaming. For instance, Active Commuting, which compares the health and performance of people who commuted by bicycle vs those who commuted in a passive manner shows that people who rode bikes did better, and this line of thinking encourages the conclusion that people should choose to ride bikes to work. But that sort of thing leaves out the systems-related questions: what sorts of things can an employer do to encourage biking (e.g. flexible start times to deal with bad weather? casual dress codes to encourage exercise gear? showers on site?) Or, why might some people live a biking distance away from work and some people don't? Leaving out this kind of discussion makes the whole study feel somewhat hollow and patronizing.
Likewise, I don't really want to hear about employee coping strategies without hearing about what managers are doing to help reduce employee stress.
And, of course, this editorial was from 2017, which I consider to be the late pre-pandemic era: most of this research was based on the assumption that all of the workers physically go to work every day, which is just not true anymore. This field has changed a lot since 2020!
These caveats notwithstanding, I found a few interesting pieces here. Even the piece on bikes I do think is interesting, because even though I don't like the lack of systems thinking there, it does imply that this is a piece that we should be thinking about if we want more sustainable businesses. Things which improve employee health and things which reduce carbon emissions are more important to me than things which improve business performance, but it looks like this one might get all 3 at once. The takeaway, I think, is that cities should be built in such a way that people can commute to work by bike if they choose to.
Another piece which I liked here was Perceived Organizational Support for Enhancing Welfare at Work: A Regression Tree Model. Again, lack of systems thinking notwithstanding, I enjoyed how they built a regression tree to put each factor which went into the kind of support each employee felt was important into the context of each other factor.
