Decided to mix something today kinda SOF stuff around some time I would’ve e loved to have a Mich2000 but I haven’t got it yet. Wanted to know yall thoughts. What antennas do you use and would you recommend them to me? I am using diversity goggles. I would rather not take a patch antenna, because often times I don't fly in front of me. What is the best? I am confused about the antenna variations, if I should use omni-directional or circular polarised. Thank you in advcance!

Hi everybody! My partner and I have been working on a project we wanted to share with this group that we think you all will enjoy (and are also looking for your feedback on :-)
My Chicago credentials don't include living in the city (yet!!) but I have visited a ton - my dad even proposed to my mom at the top of Sears tower haha. I follow along here and on Twitter, so have kept up with the current slew of CTA issues, but honestly really enjoyed my time riding the system during this visit! Hopefully leadership gets better and the system continues to be excellent. The elevated rail experience is just so unbelievably cool!
Okay so, ~The Project: We built a prototype of something we call metroboard - it's a mid-century design inspired live map of all trains in the L. It connects to your WiFi, pulls data from the CTA, and lights up LED's to show you which stations the trains are at or in transit to. We would LOVE any notes you have - flagged a few fixes we're already planning to roll in at the end of this post, so let us know if those seem right/if you have anything to add!

We were lucky to have had three days in Chicago riding the L to get to know the system! We put in some hours on the Green line, the loop, brown line, northern segments of the blue/red lines, and more. It was an absolute treat to absorb the views of stations, trains, and neighborhoods served by the L. We genuinely loved our time here (and are very lucky to have family in the city to make it feel like home!) May or may not have some zillow alerts set up now ;-)
We don't have a good video of the Chicago metroboard in action yet, but below is a video of the Los Angeles version in our apartment for your viewing pleasure.

OK so our plans for prototype upgrades: This is our first ever Chicago prototype, and we hadn't ridden the L much before we made it, so we made some rookie mistakes. Changes to expect:
  • The loop stations that are shared by subway and elevated rail will have the # of LED's increased from 2 to 4 to properly show all four tracks (two elevated and two subway)
  • Stations shared by purple, red, and/or brown lines with four platforms will also get LED's added to show all possible inbound trains.
  • We're taking another pass at the "directions" we've selected for all of the lines. To start, we currently have direction swapped (trains are on the left-hand track instead of right). But additionally, we want to see about adding some definition to the loop to make it more representative.
  • LED's unfortunately can't make a "brown" color.. right now it's a light orange and we're trying to figure out what to do with it. Open to any suggestions!

Also a huge thanks to those of you who responded to an earlier post about your favorite L stations, sights, and lines! We just spend 3 full days riding the L to really spend some time with the system, largely guided by your recommendations. Spent a lot of time on the Green line, the loop, brown line, northern segments of the blue/red lines, and more. I have a Skyzone Cobra SD and a NewBeeDrone Hummingbird with a 25mw VTX. Recently I upgraded the stock Cobra SD antennas to a Foxeer lolipop v4 and a Foxeer echo 2. however the range increase is tiny. what am I doing wrong, do I need to upgrade the drone antenna to a omnidirectional one (Maybe Foxeer lolipop micro or Lumineer AXll 2 lite)? (and then would I need a patch or should I have 2 omni's?). Also, I bought these antennas from amazon but I think there might be something better, maybe VAS ion pro and menacerc viper. If I got the viper I would need a 45 degree male to female adapter, would that impact performance?

I'm reposting this from a while ago because it's still bothering me. I look at the VHS wall in every thrift store I'm in and I still haven't found it. I'm trying to remember a VHS tape that my grandma had at her house in Michigan that I watched in the early 2000s. My brother was born in 1994 so the program may be from a few years older than him up to from 2001. It's most likely an off-brand or small production program, I don't think it's anything super populawell-known.
The only thing I know for a fact is that the VHS dust cover was cardboard and magenta in color. This is the most important and vivid part to me. I am mostly certain that the main character on the cover (and in a little square on the side) was a pink mascot. Like a person in a costume with tubes for arms and legs and a round face and antennae or pigtails. I don't think there were real people in this program but there might have been human kids. There may have also been a rainbow on the cover or in the program but I may be confusing that with Reading Rainbow. I'm not sure if this was a show or a movie, all I know is it was on a VHS tape.

Hey there, fellow adventurers! Luniant the ant, buzzing back with more tales from the anthill! Today, my antennae were twitching for adventure, and my partner-in-crime, Doodoo, the groovy green bug, was by my side (well, technically perched on my back, his long rhino snout sniffing out the juiciest dew drops).
We were scouting the undergrowth for a sugar rush when, BAM!, a huge box fell right in front of us. 📺 Doodoo, ever the cautious fellow, ducked behind a pebble, his snout twitching with curiosity and maybe a hint of fear. But me? Adventure coursed through my veins like honey syrup.
I inched closer, burning with anticipation. And what did I find? A contraption unlike anything I'd ever seen – a round, shiny thing with a big eye staring down like a giant, curious beetle. And then, a voice boomed from within, a voice like wind chimes whispering secrets. "Greetings, intrepid insect!" it boomed. "Welcome to your moment in the spotlight!"
My tiny legs nearly did the ant-mospheric equivalent of a double take. Was this the legendary "Big Ones' Talking Box," the one the elders whispered about? Apparently, it was. And guess what? They wanted me… to dance.
Now, I'm not one to turn down a good jig. I've been known to break it down on a juicy aphid or two. But this? This was a whole new level of bug-boogie. The voice instructed me to climb onto the platform, and before you could blink your eyes, I was bathed in a warm glow. Music, unlike anything my antennae had ever twitched to, filled the air – a symphony of raindrops on leaves and wind chimes tinkling in the breeze.
And then, I did it. I danced. 💃🕺 My tiny legs tapped out a rhythm on the platform, my antennae swaying like windblown grass. Doodoo, who had peeked out from behind his pebble, his emerald shell shimmering in the light, was cheering me on, his snout wagging like a metronome keeping time.
For a moment, I wasn't just Luniant the ant. I was Luniant the Star, a tiny maestro conducting the symphony of the forest. The world shrunk away, replaced by the pulsating light and the intoxicating rhythm. It was pure, unadulterated magic.
But then, just as abruptly as it began, it ended. The light faded, the music died down, and I found myself back on the ground, blinking in the sunlight. The "Big Ones' Talking Box" was gone, leaving behind only a faint hum of wonder in the air.
Doodoo, who had nearly fainted from excitement, buzzed around me like a bee on a sugar high. "You were a star, Luniant!" he exclaimed, his emerald eyes shining. "You danced with the Big Ones!"
And maybe I did. Maybe, for a fleeting moment, I touched the edge of something bigger, something that made my tiny ant heart sing. Even if it wasn't real stardom, it was an adventure I'll never forget. A reminder that even in the bustling anthill, magic can be found in the most unexpected places, if you're just brave enough to look.
So, my fellow adventurers, keep your antennae perked and your hearts open. You never know when the universe might throw you a glittery curveball and make you dance with the stars. And if you ever happen to see a shiny eye staring down at you from the sky, well, just tell it Luniant and his long-nosed, groove-master sidekick, Doodoo, sent you. The darkness of the night was absolute, and dawn was still hours away. Outside the moon shone, but inside the palace Queens were expected to have lightbearer drones. Such things offended Liamin for this solemn occasion, though an offense she could forgive, and she picked her way through the darkness by memory and the occasional flash of lightbearer drones of other Queens. A majority of the others were gathered on the balconies with their entourages, leaving the hallways bare but for Quandi’s drones on various errands to keep the palace functional and to keep her guests in good food and wines.
Liamin made her way to the stairs and ascended, the two drones she’d brought with her, tea makers, followed closely behind. To most queens present, an entourage of two would be scandalously scant. But then again most queens present were dressed in silks and jewels for the occasion, while Liamin wore simple robes of brown linen. Despite the crowds, the silence of the palace was nearly absolute as Liamin climbed the spire.
When she arrived in the banquet hall she was surprised to find candles burning on the table, and queens and drones milling about in idle conversation. All heads turned towards her as she strode into the room and, one by one, snuffed the candles with her fingers. Loudly she announced “starlight is sufficient on the night of the festival, as was decreed since ancient times.” She spoke loudly and clearly, but with the tone of a patient and gentle reminder. She heard her name muttered throughout the crowd. She did not fear to offend these queens, an assassination attempt was unlikely tonight and she was prepared if one came. She stood head and shoulders above most other queens as well as significantly broader, her lifestyle left her stronger than all but the most augmented queens, and her tea makers were plenty of protection besides. Not that anyone present was aware of that.
“Will you take Wine, Liamin?” A familiar voice asked from the now dark end of the chamber.
“Thank you, Quandi, but no. Of your generous hospitality, I shall only partake in your company and the view of your highest balcony. Otherwise my tea shall do.” She patted the head of one of her tea makers, who raised his clay mug when it saw her hand approach. It lowered the mug and nuzzled into the caress.
There was another round of murmurs at her words. “I apologize, Liamin, but tonight the highest balcony is reserved for those adopting new queens. I would not wish to offend my other guests.”
“That is no concern, I intend to adopt this year. I have finished construction on an incubation chamber just a few days ago, I am, perhaps, better prepared to care for a chrysalis than many others present.” Instead of the murmurs that she expected, there was silence. Her smile broadened.
“I…I see.” Quandi said. “Perhaps…”
“I reserve the right of first choice.” Liamin said. “Those who would contest me are welcome to do so. With your permission, of course. I would not wish to offend your hospitality, my old friend.” And with that statement, her position was secure. Quandi was under the obligation of hospitality, and would not violate it before so many witnesses to strike her. And she alone was strong enough to handle the drones of perhaps three or four of the other queens, which assumed three or four queens would form an alliance all for the right of first choice.
There would be consequences for this, of course. Knives in the dark, so to speak. None would dare attack her openly. None would dare risk it to their standing, to kill one so far beneath her in open combat. So it would be knives in the dark, a tactic many had tried and all had failed, to their peril. She reached down and accepted the now steaming clay mug from one of her drones and sipped patiently, as if unconcerned or perhaps even unaware of the stir she had caused, or the repercussions she would endure. She used the cup to hide her smile.
“I see.” Quandi said through gritted mandibles. She had no doubt laid careful plans for the festival, as many of the powerful queens did, but Liamin had a debt to repay and it was time. She’d planned this for years, sculpting her brood for the occasion, sculpting herself for the occasion. She took a sip of tea.
Liamin savored the tea, one of the few pleasures she allowed herself, and let her smile fall away before she lowered the cup. “Will you join me on the balcony, Quandi?” She did not wait for a reply before finding her way through the crowd in the dark. A few queens had brought in their lightbearers now that the candles were out, enough to navigate by. She kept her tea makers close, they were delicate, and took note of the many advisor drones around the room, many of which had their antennae a blur with communications with their queens.
The highest balcony was rather chilly late into the night, but Liamin had her tea and that was enough. She had the space to herself for a time and enjoyed the solitude until she heard Quandi approach from behind, and take up position beside her at the rail. “That was neatly done. What is your game, here?”
“Thank you, but my motives are my own.” Liamin said, quietly.
“I understand.” Quandi said, although Liamin doubted she did. “You have no need to fear retribution from me, old friend, but I cannot offer you protection from the others.” Liamin smiled, and glanced to the host, who smiled in return. She felt a twang of relief that their friendship would recover.
They stood in silence for a time, and Quandi surprised Liamin by accepting a cup of tea. Liamin’s tea maker drones always carried the supplies, though Liamin had stitched the patches, turned the mugs and picked the leaves with her own hands. Though frail, her tea makers had enough strength to carry a few things.
They stood in silence for a time, until the balcony began to fill. Soon it was crowded, and Liamin kept her little tea makers in front of herself, by the railing, to shield them with her own body. Not that anyone would intentionally damage one, but in the throng it was possible for accidents to happen. The sky began to lighten, a fading of the starlight then the subtle hues of sunrise behind the distant still dark mountains. The valley floor itself became visible, a sacred space where no queen dared build, and soon the palace itself was lit well enough for Liamin to observe the crowd gathered on the balconies below.
Queens and drones filled the higher balconies, without any regard to station aside from this uppermost level. She saw destitute queens, dressed in the finest they had, rubbing elbows with queens draped in silk and jewels. Beneath them, on the lower balconies were more queens, of course, typically those not overly interested in the festival but who were here for the company, or the food, or because shunning the festival entirely would draw unwanted attention. They milled about with knights of various castes.
The first hatchings would begin soon, and Liamin watched studiously. Quandi broke the silence beside her. “Do you remember your nuptial flight? I have never felt such satisfaction since.”
“Of course.” Liamin said. Rare was the queen who could not recall those first few hours of life and the frenzy they contained. Liamin had never found the satisfaction at the end that so many spoke of, though she kept that secret. She was the oldest queen present, so none here would have witnessed her own flight. “It is a marvelous thing, is it not? The birth of a new generation of queens. To think that their lives will be forever changed by the drones they gain today. I am glad to bear witness to it.”
“How will you pick the nymph you will adopt?” Quandi asked.
“I will know her when I see her.” Liamin said, softly. “I will know.”

We were happy to continue testing the LD2412 for 2 more days and it performed well, with a larger angle (70 degrees) and up to 9m, giving it a greater range and generally, we found the static sensitivity to have increased quite a bit. The shortest distance is currently at 0.75m.The bug with the hardware is that sometimes powering up at the same time can cause the module not to start, the HLK developers have pinpointed an issue and given a temporary solution (shorting three solder joints), after using the temporary solution the start up is very smooth and the 3.3V power supply is very easy to use.

In terms of price/performance, this radar is a really nice LD2410 upgrade, and given that the biggest hardware issue can be temporarily patched (future bulk versions of the hardware look like they'll fix this for good), there seems to be hope that we can share some of the earliest hardware sensors for the L12 with everyone, and that could be a lot of fun.We're very happy with the stability of the hardware so far!For the LD2412 and LD2410 we can now learn this information:
  • The angle is larger, expanding to 70 degrees.
  • Enhanced antenna with higher sensitivity and better static capability.
  • The longest range is extended to 9m, while the LD2410 is about 6m.
  • Support 3.3V direct power supply, also support 5V power supply.
  • The same photoresistor is provided, but the current firmware does not turn on the function.
  • In the firmware protocol provides a detection of background noise function, about 10 seconds will be fixed sources of interference to automatically set the sensitivity of the exclusion.
  • Currently is the same price as the LD2410, LD2410 slightly reduced price, but the price of the two is almost the same.

I woke upside down on the roof of the mansion. My ears throbbed, my throat and ass were on fire and my neck was so crooked it could’ve gotten into politics. The only thing that stopped me becoming inspiration for the isekai writer was the fact there was this sparrow perched on an antenna beside me staring at me with its cute little eyes. It had been a long while since I saw a bird.
I climbed back through the window of the mansion like a slug with arthritis. I landed on the floor in a floppy heap and didn’t respond when one of the crime writers poked me with a stick.
Eventually, I managed to pull myself off the ground and crawl to the drinks table. I grabbed a familiar-looking steel bucket, quarter-filled with beer and melted ice, took the beer out and dunked my head in.
My headache instantly froze. I was gasping when I came up for air.
‘Hey man,’ came a voice from behind me, ‘I would’ve stopped you, but, you kinda looked possessed.’
It was a wuxia writer. He was sitting on the table eating a slice of watermelon.
‘Huh?’ I said, trying to focus my eyes, ‘What?’
‘The bucket.’ He pointed towards it and suddenly I knew where I’d seen the bucket before.
‘That’s not...’ I began.
But he just nodded, ‘Yep. That’s a poop bucket. You dunked your head into some guy’s poop bucket.’
I felt tears forming, ‘Bu-but, the beer?’
‘Is in an enclosed container – you can still drink it no worries.’
‘What kind of a sicko puts beer in their poop bucket?’
‘The kind of sicko who celebrated four years of being out of the cells last night.’
The guy adjusted his glasses, ‘You don’t know Johnny?’
I tried to rub my head with a tablecloth, ‘I don’t know anyone in this place.’
‘Hey! Eli!’
I turned, Manuel was staring down at me, ‘There you are. I was about to call Al-Man. I mean Alex...I thought you’d died.’
I laughed, it hurt my head, but it felt good, ‘Manuel, even if I died I’d just come back as a spirit or a traffic jam or something, just to piss Alex off.’
He cocked his head, ‘Yeah... sure... whatever makes you happy I guess.’
Manuel nodded towards his bike, which still sat outside despite the keys hanging from the ignition, ‘Want a ride?’

We sped along the roads in a fast freefall. But as exhilarating as it was to have the wind in my hair it also made me hella sick. The moment we got to my place I threw up in the neatly manicured lavender bushes.
Manuel wished me luck then sped off as I crawled into my perfect house, getting dirt across the floor. The bed was too far so I crashed on the sofa.
I had just finished the mega-task of taking my shoes off and wrapping myself in a blanket-cocoon when a sharp beeping broke my hangover zen.
The beeping was coming from my computer which had been installed on a desk for me while I was away. I tried to ignore the beeping for a while, but it was such a loud and all-consuming beep I was worried my eardrums were going to shatter into a million pieces.
I crawled heroically over to my computer, only pausing midway to drink some water out of a pot-plant to regather my strength.
And when I got through my carpet odyssey. Who should I find was calling me?
Goat-humping, tie-ruining, sadistic-leaning Alex.
‘Eli! That took a while.’
‘Sorry I...’ I waved my hand vaguely in the air, ‘What do you want?’
‘Well...’ He gave a lemon-like smile, ‘I thought I’d just call for a morning chat. See how your chapters for the day are coming along?’
I rubbed my eyes, ‘Chapters?’
‘Yes. The chapters you’re supposed to be writing to afford this expensive lifestyle you’ve chosen.’ he eyeballed a new, very expensive looking wristwatch, ‘It’s already 3pm and my star writer hasn’t produced a chapter since he got to writer’s heaven.’
I rubbed the space in between my eyes, ‘Hey... you were the one that...’
‘...offered you the opportunity to get out of the dorms. You’re the one that took it Eli. And what? You got drunk last night, wasted half the day getting home, and now you’re feeling sorry for yourself?’
I moaned.
‘I have no problem with a bit of fun Eli.’ He gestured to his spew-coloured tie with slugs on it, ‘But you need to be doing the work to support it.’
I groaned, ‘Yeah, yeah... i'll do it okay. Quit shouting.’
‘I’m talking Eli. Just talking. And you nee-’
I shut down the computer, pulled the plug from the wall and unplugged the speakers.
‘Oh man...’ I moaned, taking five minutes to muster the courage to turn the computer back on again. When I finally got the Crusher Media writing app up I found myself staring at the blank screen, tongue out, not a thought in my head.
‘Hey.’ said a voice from my shattered glass window.
I turned, it was Manuel.
‘How’s the writing?’ he said.
I turned in my plush new writing chair, ‘Oh fine... fine... I think I’ll probably be kicked out of here by next week.’
He laughed and lit up a cigarette.
‘They let you have cigarettes here?’ I asked.
Manuel gave a comic-book-villain grin, ‘I can get anything in here Eli.’ He lifted the cigarette, ‘For the right price.’
I looked back at my screen – it was an expanse of white.
‘That was one of the best nights of my life last night,’ I said, ‘It’s just a pity it’s transformed into the worst morning since I got in here.’
Manuel reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small orange container, he shook it and the rattle drove my headache crazy, ‘I got something for you.’
The orange container clicked as I caught it, ‘Will it end my suffering?’
He grinned, ‘No. But they’ll end your dry patch on the keyboard.’
‘And how much are you gonna deduct from my paycheck for these beauties?’
He winked, ‘First round’s on me... when you need more, then we’ll talk.’
I unscrewed the lid – inside was about 10 orange pills I shook them, pulled one out, then turned back to Manuel.
But he was gone. I closed my eyes a moment and could hear him trying to start his motorbike. I wheeled myself over to the window, ‘You’re like batman!’ I called out, and he grinned as he finally got the machine started. He roared off through a bunch of sunflowers.
‘The shit George Clooney one...’ I mumbled to myself.
I went back to the pills. The container was on its side and one pill had landed on my desk. I picked up the orange pill and stared at it until I could swear it was starting to stare back at me.
‘Okay. Fine’ I said to the pill, ‘I don’t even care if you’re going to mentally impair me. I’m still going to have better fashion sense than Alex.’
I swallowed the pill.

Hi everybody! My partner and I have been working on a project we wanted to share with this group that we think you all will enjoy (and are also looking for your feedback on :-)
For context, I went to Stanford for undergrad and, being a car-less student, got around the bay almost entirely with Caltrain and BART - both systems have a special place in my heart. They were essentially the only way I was able to get to, and enjoy, all of the incredible things S.F. had to offer while I was an undergrad.
Okay so, The Project: We built a prototype of something we call metroboard - it's a mid-century design inspired live map of all trains in the Bay (BART and Caltrain trains, that is). It connects to your WiFi, pulls data from the transit agencies, and lights up LED's to show you which stations the trains are at or in transit to. We would LOVE any notes you have - we've gone a bit insane checking stations, spelling, dotting our t's and crossing our eyes (huge respect to the professional cartographers out there - whew). Anything you see that looks off, let us know!

It's mostly an art piece/home-decor item, but can be treated semi-functionally (you can technically see when a train is on it's way to your local station). For us, though, we largely made it to feel connected to what felt like the "pulse" of the city. Watching this thing throughout the day, I can't help but feel connected to the hundreds of people, journeys, and lives unfolding throughout the day.
Here she is looking a bit sharper (and patched up with photoshop - the antenna hole is still a WIP!). Who recognizes the station? ;-)

We were in S.F. this past weekend and spent a full day riding the system - starting in Mission, down to San Jose along the peninsula, up to Richmond along the east bay, through Market, all the way to Antioch, and back. It was an absolute treat to spend time appreciating all of the stations, views, and cities served by BART, many with striking views of the city from afar.
We don't have a good video of the Bay Area metroboard in action yet, but below is a video of the Los Angeles version in our apartment for your viewing pleasure.

Between helical, patch, crosshair, etc which one has the largest width pattern? Not all antenna in the local online shop has width specification, if I need a largest width (only fly 100 m max) should I look for the certain type or just find one with lowest dbi?

Balinski took a few steps down the hall towards the distant exit but stopped as he realised Daryon wasn’t following. He looked at her and the police woman seemed to shrink slightly. “What? What is it? We need to get moving, Daryon.”
He waited another second as she put her weapon away and compiled. She seemed strangely subdued now all of the sudden, as if she were embarrassed to be around him. They walked down the hall, thuds coming from behind them as the barred doors did their job. He reached out towards her but she flinched away slightly. “Okay, what is going on? What’s the issue?”
She walked a few more meters in silence and then spoke softly, “I jusst.. I didn't want you to have to ssee anything like that. Who I usssed to be.”
Balinski shook his head, he didn't care who she used to be in her past. He cared about who she was now. And who she was, was a friend. “Daryon, I don't give a znot’s ass about that asshole or what he said. You are my friend, and I promised that I would watch your back.” he had made the promise in order to calm her down, he didn't mention that he hadn't actually expected to have to cash in on it so soon.
She made a gesture of dejected misery, “I know you did. But you didn’t know who I used to be. What I did.. to ssurvive.” She looked at him and her tone became pleading. “Please don’t think less of me becausse I used to.. do things.”
Balinski shook his head. “Why would I think any less of you, Daryon?” She seemed to look at him in mild confusion, her faceplates cracking open to reveal the pink flesh of her lipless mouth. “I mean it. I have known you for a few months now, but we have been working together on this case for Siyel together for a few weeks now. I feel like we can trust each other with our secrets..” he trailed off, he was about to take a big step in trusting her.
He started hesitantly, now the large insectoid woman’s turn to hear something he didn’t like others to know. “Daryon..” he hesitated again and then took a deep breath. “I am not the hero that people make me out to be. I am simply the one that survived. And not even by being brave.” She looked at him, her head cocking slightly as he spoke. “I was placed on perimeter watch, I never even entered the complex before the destruction. Ima fraud, I never even fired a single shot at the rebels that day.” he stopped talking and slumped slightly himself.
It felt strangely liberating to get it off his chest, even if it was not the whole truth of what had happened in actuality. No, the whole truth was far too dangerous to share. “So now you know. I’m not the war hero who took out the enemies of the Union single handedly. I'm just the scared little boy that the commander of my unit did not trust enough to take into battle. And I have to live with that, the images still haunt me. My comrades shattered bodies, the blood.. The fire..”
He felt a wave of pain crashed through his mind, the memories once more causing the psychic anguish to overwhelm him. He raised his hands to his head and groaned quietly, he felt himself backslide towards that dark personal oblivion that was the pit of his past trauma. He stopped, or rather something stopped him.
He looked up as a voice brought him back to the present, “..can’t help you if I don’t know what’ss wrong, Balinski.”
He shook his head and stood. “I.. sorry. I have an.. a condition.” He finished lamely.
Daryon seemed to look him over without moving. Her bright blue compound eyes were able to see so much without her having to turn her head. She reached out and gave his shoulder a pat. “I get it. I think I do at leasst.”
He had a thousand things he could have said in response ranging from cruel to straight up flirtatious. But he never got to explore any of the options as just then a mighty crash echoed through the hall. This was soon followed up by the sound of distant screams and angry yelling.
He looked at Daryon briefly and then began running down the hall again. They skidded around the corner into the final stretch and up the slight incline towards the exit. Next to the door stood Dunmec and a slightly battered looking Terri, the yeown woman looked to be bleeding from several cuts across her forearms. They looked like they had been made by some manner of sharp objects.
Despite her oozing injuries the woman was beaming, her long pointed ears and wide predatory grin as gleeful as he had ever seen one of the big werewolf-like aliens. As they made their mad dash up towards the exit he also noticed that the tall umraghj was bandaging her wounds, the soft buzz of their synthetic voice echoing through the enclosed space.
“..andeged like this tightly or you may get infected. I don’t know why you had to go and do something like that Terri.” Balinski was able to pick up on the tail end of their muted conversation. “What’s that? Hey, it’s you two! You won’t believe what happened..”
Balinski skidded to a halt, breathing hard. Daryon was only centimeters behind. He saw Terri bristle, her mantle hair standing on end as she stood and whirled to face them. In her haste she scattered the small first aid kit that Dunmec had been using.
As she looked back and forth between them a gleam of recognition flashed in her eyes and she glanced at the umraghj who was busy trying to pick up the scattered debris of her suspicion. “This is the ones?” She seemed at once curious and skeptical.
He gave her a nod and a synthetic grunt as he stood with some difficulty despite the exosuit he wore. The gravity of the planet was nearly a perfect standard G, but the umraghj had evolved on a planet with much lower gravity and thusly had trouble standing unaided under standard gravity.
Balinski nodded to her as he reached them and then gestured towards the door. “We need to get out of here, like right now.”
“Too late, look out!” Daryon yelled as she dodged into the small alcove to the side of the chamber. Balinski twitched as he meant to follow, but in that second of hesitation he realised that Dunmec was entirely out in the open, and the approaching henchmen had drawn their guns.
The fool had gone for the exit, in a second he would likely be riddled with bullets and dead. Balinski stepped towards the man just as the thugs opened fire at him with an AP-6 submachine gun. He threw up an arm to shield his face as he felt a series of impacts against his chest and legs. He grunted in pain as he was thrown backwards by the force of the absorbed impacts. He swore internally as he slammed into the door right next to the cowering Dunmec, that was going to hurt like a bitch in the morning.
Dunmec lowed in fear, the electronic tone of the sound magnified by the distortion of his suit. Balinski coughed as he reached up and grabbed the man right as another flurry of shots flew their way. The umraghj jerked in either fear or pain as Balinski used his body to shield the man while simultaneously dragging him towards cover. He tried to send a mental alert to Caesar for backup but didn’t feel the transmission go. He couldn't be sure that the message had been sent, much less been received.
It looked like they were on their own. A bullet nicked his neck, causing him to jerk. With a last herculean effort he hauled the tall alien into the cover of the alcove while the other three tried to shelter in place. “Daryon, waste these fucks.” he shouted to her, unholstering his ThunderEagle and tossing it to her.
She grabbed it out of the air deftly and gave a grim looking nod, her antennae pressed down her back as she leaned out from cover and fired a shot off. He didn’t see if she hit anything as he was preoccupied with the whimpering Dunmec.
Terri was hovering nearby, her bloody wounds forgotten as the unfinished bandages hung from her arms. “Oh no! Oh-oh no.” the woman muttered as Balinski looked the suited man over. He had a small puncture in the shoulder of his suit, a thick green liquid seeped from the wound. The man’s chlorine based blood stained the fabric of the suit as Balinski checked him for patches.
He pointed to Terri, the woman still looking a little freaked out. “Hey, you.” Her chatoyant blue eyes snapped to his face. “First aid kit, now. I can help him if you help me!” He told her loudly as Daryon fired another two shots.
“Two down!” The vinarfel shouted. “I never sshould have let myssself get dragged in here.” He heard her mutter, as if anything he said or did would have stopped her from entering the building. She opened the revolver’s chamber and asked, “You got reloads?”
Balinski nodded and handed her a handful of bullets, AP, HE and others. He hadn’t looked, he had just grabbed some from his pockets as he lay on the ground wheezing slightly through the pain in his chest. Tarri had grabbed the first aid kit that Dunmec had been rummaging around in and he flung open the lid to see what he was working with. His own medkit he wore on his waist would come in handy if he couldn't find what he needed.
He looked through it as more gunfire erupted from down the hall, it sounded as if the gunmen in the hall had been reinforced. Balinski ignored it, instead focusing on the injured alien. Dunmec was breathing heavy, his eyes just visible through the HUD visor he wore. Balinski placed a hand on the man’s injured shoulder causing him to moan in pain.
“Hey, stay with me kid. This might hurt a bit, but I need to seal the wound. It looks like the bullet is still inside, I am going to have to get it out.” He watched as the man nodded, his breathing taking in a more fearful pitch.
Terri hovered by his side, dancing from foot to foot as she mumbled in some manner of near incoherent babble. He gave her a look, pausing in his work. “Terri, I need space. Most importantly I need you to watch my partner’s back. Here, take this.” He undid his ammo belt, handing it to her he gave her a small smile, “I got this. Don’t worry. I'm a professional.”
The yeown rushed off to help Daryon, now alone with the injured man he reached for the kit and located a small vitatector. He switched the portable MRI detector on and scanned over the wound. The small device beeped and showed an interior scan of the man’s injury. The bullet had been slowed by his suit, it looked like and embedded itself in the bone just next to his shoulder joint. It would be a difficult fix, but he had done this before on the battlefield on several occasions when a designated medic wasn’t available.
Balinski grabbed a small pair of packaged forceps from his own medical pouch. They had been stored in antiseptic fluid that he used to sterilise the wound as he ripped the package open. Dunmec once more cried out in pain as the liquid seeped into the open wound but Balinski sat him up against the wall and held him still with his free hand.
He looked at the man and asked him, “This is going to hurt. I don’t have any anesthetic that will work on you, I recommend that you hold onto my arm and squeeze as hard as you feel the need to.”
The umraghj nodded, their long double jointed arms reached out and his suited hands gripped his free arm. Balinski breathed deep and then pushed the tool into the wound to where the vitatector had told him to. It took a few seconds to find the bullet, in that time the man’s hands tightened down hard enough on his arm to make the allow creak concerningly. He felt the tool slip of the bullet and he swore.
“Luck damned thing! Come one!” He fished for it again and succeeded in getting a grip on it the second time. He had to work it back and forth a few times to loosen the projectile from its death grip. As soon as the projectile was free he dropped the forceps to grab some sterile gauze, he needed to stop the bleeding and didn't have a QTube handy. He needed to requisition more from the precinct when he got the chance.
He checked the man’s waist pouches quickly and found a patch kit. He squirted some basic medical foam into the wound, it would swell and keep pressure on the wound internally. It didn’t have the healing properties of a QTube, but it would keep the man from bleeding out. Balinski used a sterile bandage to clean the suit as best he could before applying the patch to it. Oxygen wasn’t harmful to the man, but it might not be good if the pressurised chlorinated atmosphere from inside the suit got out.
He reached for the first aid kit and closed it before patting the man on his shoulder. He was still lucid, impressive as most non-combat oriented species of the Union would quickly succumb to shocksleep when injured. Dunmec must be tougher than his lanky frame looked at a glance.
Daryon shouted as he stood. “Alright, they just got rushed by club staff it looks like. They are laying down their arms!” She scuttled back into the cover of the alcove as shouting replaced the sound of gunfire in the distance. She handed him his .50 calibre revolver and he replaced it into his shoulder holster as Terri rushed to Dunmec’s side.
She spoke quickly, “Oh.. oh Dunmec.. I’m so sorry. Are you alright? You got shot!” She added, a bit obviously.
The downed alien just coughed lightly and shook his helmeted head while reaching up towards the muscular alien woman. “I feel bad. But not as bad as I did before I met you.” He said the lines in an almost practised way, as if he had been waiting for the opportunity to use them for a while.
Balinski snorted slightly under his breath at the cheesy line causing Daryon to punch him in the shoulder. He gave her a glance as Terri lifted the nearly three meter tall man to his feet. He leaned heavily on her much shorter frame, but she didn't seem to mind. Her powerful muscles easily compensated for the additional strain as she replied to him, “Well, that was before. Now you don’t have to feel bad or scared. I will protect you now. I won't let anyone else hurt you, I promise.” Dunmec just chuckled and then groaned in discomfort.
Balinski stood straight as he heard the sound of approaching footsteps, his hand flashed inside of his trench coat. His fingers finding the handgrip of his gun as a quartet of heavily armed people rounded the corner with MR-12s raised.
Daryon automatically raised her hands and after a moment he did as well, relinquishing his grip on the gun reluctantly. A tattooed nerivith female stepped forwards, her face taken up on one side by a flowing vine-like pattern that disappeared into the collar of her suit. She wore a bullet resistant vest over the top of it, very much business-combat attire.
She nodded her horned head to them and shouted loudly, “You two, get on the ground! No funny business or you will find out just how much I care about problem brewers in my establishment.” She stopped as Terri rushed forwards.
The yeown woman’s arms were still wrapped up in the bandages from earlier and spots of bright red blood dripped slowly from at least one of the deep cuts. “Stop! These two saved us, literally. The human took some bullets to save Dunmec, he got shot by those packbreakers.” She spat the last word with considerable venom. Her disdain for the submachine gun wielding men was obvious.
The nerivith woman looked from Terri to Dunmec a few times before stepping closer to Balinski with a suspicious look. “Hands all the way up, move and I’ll give you another orifice to breathe through.” She stepped close and opened his coat, her hand feeling his ballistic vest that had stopped the first burst of automatic fire. She nodded and then stepped back before lowering her gun.
“Don't touch that hand cannon in your shoulder holster, but I think I trust you. Who are you two and what the smeg are you doing antagonising these jerkoffs?” The pink skinned alien demanded as she looked between him and Daryon.
Balinski gave Daryon a glance and she nodded before raising one of her middle arms. “I can ansswer that for you.” She pulled out a physical badge from her back pocket and handed it to the woman.
The club workers' tufted tail flicked as she took it and Balinski watched as her raven colored eyebrows rose. “CPD? What the hel are you doing here, if you don’t mind me asking?”
Daryon spoke again, the nerivith woman frowning as she laid out the tale in as accurate a fashion as she could without compromising their true agenda. “Well, we were following a lead to a persson of interessst when we were accossted by these men for ssome unfathomable reason. We tried to run and when that didn’t work we defended ourselves to the full legal extent of the law. You may notice that I didn't shoot to kill, at least not on purposse.” She added with a slightly guilty hiss.
Terri let out a small noise as she said it. The woman likely still in some manner of mild shock, despite her species violent natures, death was not always so easy to grasp. The gun-wielding woman turned to the few other club workers that had come with her and commanded, “Tell the boss what happened, call the police. I want this wrapped up as soon as possible. I’m not taking the fall for this one.” She turned back to Balinski and punched him in the chest, not hard enough to be aggressive but still with considerable force. “I think I like you, big man. You got some horns on you, I guess I don't have to ask you to wait for the police to arrive to give a statement do I?”
Balinski chuckled and glanced towards Terri and Dunmec. “No, you don't have to worry. I will be submitting a full report of the events..” He wasn't able to finish as a loud thud echoed from the main door followed by a series of loud percussive noises. Everyone immediately went on high alert but Balinski raised a hand. “No, it's okay, that’s my backup. Fashionably late as usual. Here, let me get the door so she knows it alright.” He looked towards Terri who nodded.
The nerivith woman’s gun was still raised but she nodded too. “Be my guest.” She gestured for him to go ahead. He walked to the door and unlatched it before swinging it open slightly. Before he could say anything, Caesar burst through it as she pushed it out of his grip. He grunted in mild discomfort as she slammed into his legs and landed in a stunned heap.
Chuckling as the embarrassed looking dog stood to her feet, he watched as she shook her triangular head. “You big oaf. Everything is fine now girl, thanks for coming though.” he reached down and gave her head a scrub that made her grumble in annoyance like a put upon teenager.
Daryon scuttled over on her short, pointed legs and Caesar perked up a little. “Oh you brave warrior, you would have ssaved usss for ssure if Balinsski had just taken you with uss.” She gave him a look, her faceplates cracked in her version of a grin. He could only shake his head as the nerivith woman walked up to him once more.
“Alright, I need to get this mess cleaned up. I beg your pardon if I ask you not to come back here on official business again?” He nodded.
He pointed to the door. “It wasn’t my plan to cause such a disruption when I came in here.”
She shook her raven haired head. “It’s all over now. No sense worrying about what did and didn't happen. It just so happens that we have had trouble with these individuals before. So as far as I see it you did us a favour because we now have cause to bar them from ever coming back.” She nodded again as she said it, her smile flashing at him. As she did he noticed that she had several gold teeth.
She turned and stalked away, her tail lashing behind her. Balinski rubbed his chest and then glanced down at Caesar. “Yeah, you did good in coming. If we hadn’t been able to make it out your backup would have been the thing we needed.” She just gave him a little bark and then headbutted his thigh affectionately.
Daryon was talking to Terri and the still slouching Dunmec. Balinski got the feeling he didn’t need the support as much as he was simply enjoying being physically close to the brawny furred alien.
Balinski decided to walk over to them to hear what they were whispering about. He picked up on the conversation as he neared. Terri was speaking, “Yes. She likely will keep trying to force her ideas on me, but I already beat her once and she won't ever be able to forget that. It is an exploitable weakness if we should ever lock claws again. Thank you for your concern.”
The woman looked over at him as he approached, her eyes settling on Caesar. “Oh, what’s that?” She exclaimed.
Caesar tossed her little head and gave him a look as if to say, ‘What? Another one?’ He chuckled and gave her a pat on the head. “This is my erstwhile companion and oldest living friend, Caesar. She is a cybernetically enhanced dog, a Jureillion husky to be precise. She’s got cognitive implants, you can talk to her if you want.” He prompted.
The yeown woman gave him a look that seemed as if she was unsure of herself. Finally she reached out and spoke softly, “Wow, look at you. You kind of look a little like my grandmother, it's uncanny.” Caesar snorted at the comment and then walked over for free head scritches, grumbling contentedly as she received them. “Ok she is so.. I mean, you are so soft. I love her.”
Caesar seemed to be enjoying the attention. Dunmec spoke now, the suited alien’s robotic sounding voice wheezing out from his helmet’s speakers. “I just wanted to thank you again for saving my life, man. Here, take this.” the man handed him something, it was a datachip card. An old style one too. “If you ever want to get a hold of me..” he glanced at Terri and she nodded, “..or Terri. Just call me with the number on that card.”
Balinski had to nod as he heard the faint sound of sirens coming from the still open door. “I will do that. You two take care of each other.”
Terry gave a wide grin, her teeth clinting in the light. “Oh, we will.” Daryon gave her a pat on the back as she followed Balinski out the door. Caesar hot on her tail.
He took a few steps out into the night and then patted his pockets. He grunted in mild delight as he found what he was looking for. It was a small shiny package of pibbles, the small candies one of his favorites. He poured a few out into his open mouth and jerked as he felt a tap on his shoulder. He glanced over, it was Daryon.
“Pibble?” he asked her with his mouth full. She seemed to smile slightly and offered a hand into which he poured a few of the colorful candies.
He chewed vigorously on the fruity sugar orbs as he contemplated the massive shitstorm they had just managed to walk out of. Daryon must have been thinking the same thing as she gave a loud sigh, “Wow.. that was. Well, it wassn't good.”
He just nodded silently. They stayed that way for another few seconds before he turned to her. “What did we actually get out of that old skorp? Anything that we can use to track down the one’s behind the attack?”
Daryon walked a few paces away and then returned quickly, the side-to-side scuttling motion of her pacing threw him off a little. “I really don’t know. The trail hasss gone cold, without another major lead I am fearful that we will losse them. That ssimply isn't acceptable to me.” He nodded, she was right.
He would have liked to respond but it was about that time that a series of screeching vehicles covered in flashing lights skidded into view at the end of the alley. He sighed and fished around in his trench coat for his credentials. “Here we go..” He muttered to which Daryon gave an amused hiss.
A series of officers rushed down the alley with guns drawn, shouts directed their way. It took only a few minutes of back and forth with them to convince them that they were in fact officers, or in Balinski’s case, employed by the CPD.
When it was over he gave a statement and almost a whole hour after they had walked down the alley he found himself leaving it. A bit the worse for wear but secure in the knowledge that they had at least put down a dangerous criminal for their trouble.
Daryon scuttled along beside him, “Gee, I ssure hope the club doesn't get into any ssort of trouble for thisss.”
The comment caught him off guard and he chuckled. “Yeah, they seemed like downright decent folk for running a burlesque underground club.” She gave him a pointed look, her antennae shooting up as she looked like she was about to rebuke him. He raised his arms in mock surrender before she could though, “Oh hey, not saying I didn’t like the place. Just that they likely were not excited to see the boys in blue.”
It was a fair point and she conceded. “Yeah, I ssuppose. But I think we sstill got out of there with a halfway decent lead.”
Now it was his turn to look shocked as they crossed the street, weaving between emergency vehicles to get to the opposite side of the gloomy street. The flashing of emergency lights was behind her and it made her eyes glitter like gemstones, he frowned. “What do you mean? That crusty old skorp didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already suspect.”
She raised an arm and pointed to the wall. He looked and noticed the graffiti for the first time. The one in particular she was gesturing to was a gang affiliated symbol for the Sunstarters. “I can ssay with sssome measure of certainty that we might be able to look around for ssome additional cluesss.”
The Sunstarters were known distributors for the Psychosis Division. It stood to reason that if the Pit Vipers had gotten involved with the Psychs then they were likely also involved with the Sunstarters. Balinski clapped his hands together and smiled, they might just have a lead indeed. What had the old skorp said? To follow the source?
They walked into the large parking garage and to his big blue truck, as they climbed back inside he leaned his head back. “That was a bit of a fuckfest. Are you hungry, I’m hungry.” Indeed almost as he said it he felt a small grumble from his middle.
Daryon made an affirmative gesture, her antennae moving excitedly. “Oh yess, where do you want to go for lunch? Ullnek’ss Hut maybe? McDoinkss?”
He folded his arms. He wasn’t really in the mood for greasy burgers or razah’voolian seafood. No, he would have to think about it. “Why don’t we just drive around till we find something interesting? We need to keep an eye out for any good leads too.”
He started the truck as the large insectoid woman gave Caesar a head pat while nodding. “Okay. But if you see a TFDs then we are sstopping immediately, isss that fair?”
Balinski shrugged. He liked fried drebble as much as anything else. Caesar however seemed very excited by the idea of crispy breaded arthropod as she woofed happily. He shook his head and looked back out the window. He would have to keep his eyes peeled for one of the yellow and black spotted stores.

Balinski smacked his lips happily as he took another great bite out of the steaming fried drebbleloaf sandwich. The snallke was fresh and the pickles were crispy, just the way he liked them. Glancing over at the other two revealed similar scenes of personal enjoyment. Caesar was snacking on some popcorn drebble and Daryon was cleaning out a six-piece bucket of BBQ drebble graspers. Her long radula snaked from her lipless mouth between her opened faceplates as he watched, mildly intrigued to watch the alien woman eat.
He took another bite of his sandwich as Daryon sucked the meat off another fried and breaded grasper. Lacking a jaw she was unable to chew but her radula and powerful cheek muscles made up for her lack as she deftly disassembled the meat with the skill of a surgeon.
She waved the de-meated shell and gave a small hissing sigh as another of her ten arms reached out for the Smarkus grape soda sitting in the dash drink-holder. “Ahhh… Yeah, that'ss the sstuff. How’sss your ssandwich?” She looked at him without moving her head, her compound eyes making her constantly aware of her surroundings in a manner that some might describe as unsettling.
He got the feeling she was watching him eat too, his mastication of the sandwich as inherently alien to him as her own strange method of ingestion was to him. As he took another bite her curiosity seemed to get the better of her. He saw her head cock a little as she asked, “Sso, can you feel with your teeth? I know that you can’t tasste with them. I read that much on the hyperweb at leassst.”
He finished chewing and swallowed before giving her a wide smile. She froze, her fascination with his teeth obvious. “Yeah, kind of. I was lucky that I didn't lose them. It's not uncommon for people who go through.. what I did, to have their teeth shatter. And when they go they don’t come back.”
She nodded slightly as she took a loud slurp of her soda. “Yeah, I read that humanss only get a sssingle sset of adult teeth in their life. No wonder they are so hard, you have to keep using them for a hundred yearss.”
He looked out the window, they were driving slowly around the entertainment district looking for anything that might point them in the right direction. He wasn’t really too sure what he was looking for to be honest, but Daryon insisted that she knew what to look for. He nodded towards a distant structure, it rose so high it went out of sight. “What’s that there?”
Daryon made a loud noise as she cleared her throat. “That’ss one of the upper-city sspires. It connectss the people up there to the ones down here, think of it as a vertical metro..” She trailed off before pointing to something in the near distance. Her BBQ bucket forgotten. “Hey.. hey right there.. Sstop. Pull over.” She tapped him on the shoulder with one of her lower arms rapidly and he obliged.
He looked forwards and saw nothing out of the ordinary, a few people walking along the edge of the street. There was a tall human woman leaning against one of the street signs at the corner, she was dressed in some tight fitting dress and high heels but other than that looked as normal as the rest of them.
Daryon put her yellow and black spotted grasper bucket on the dash and cleaned her hands at the same time she undid her seatbelt and straightened her clothing. She stopped fussing after a moment and then pulled a soft cloth out of one of the inner pockets of her overcoat and used it to polish her eyes. She replaced it and then held out her arms, “Well, how do I look?”
Balinski took the opportunity to give her a completely unabashed once over. He shrugged, “You look like you. What can I say?”
She seemed to smirk. “Alright, good enough. You know you have a way with words Balinski, any girl would just swoon to hear such things.” He frowned but didn't get to reply as she continued, “I’ll be right back. Sstay there and try not to look too harmlesss. This will only take a ssecond.
She slithered out of the truck and he kept his eyes firmly forwards this time as she closed it and sauntered off, well as much as the fifty-two legged alien was able too. He noticed that she had once more adopted that somewhat provocative side to side sway in her stride as she walked away from him. He just shook his head, she was doing it again.

2024.05.07 21:04 superdstar56 Setup Mobula7 & Radiomaster Pocket - First Time + BT2.0 and Bluejay upgrades

I got my Mobula7 1s about a week ago, and I've spent every waking hour trying to get it to work. I finally got it up and flying and I flew about 40 packs, broke 2 motors off the frame and broke the antenna. I have more screws and a replacement antenna in the mail. It is even more fun than I was expecting.
If I was more weak of heart, I would have given up on the setup process. I am in IT and my job requires a lot of research, trial and error, and tech research. I was following YouTube videos, but so many settings and things have changed on new updates, I wanted to give my exact setup directions so someone like me can find this and see what I did to get mine to work. Looking back I probably spent...15-18 hours trying to get it all right. I set up and re-set up a lot of things.
**Starting out in FPV Takes a LOT of knowledge and setup of equipment. Follow along and watch ALL of the videos, sometimes multiple times. I found myself finding an answer by re-watching and going over the steps multiple times and catching something I'd missed. This is a time commitment, setting up your quad and your radio is going to take A COUPLE OF HOURS AT LEAST! So get comfortable.
Here's what I started with:
Happymodel Mobula7 1s - Analog 0802 20k X12 ELRS
Radiomaster Pocket (I wish now I had started with a Boxer, but I will probably save for a Boxer Max. For $65, the Pocket has been great, and now I'll have two when I get the one I want, sweet)
EV800D Goggles - For $100, these are useable to start out
BetaFPV BT2.0 Pigtails - get that juice
Soldering Iron (I got a 60w all in one kit and I wish I got the TS100
8x Tattu 1s BT2.0 450mah HV batteries - charge to 4.35v
ViFly Whoopstor 3 - highly recommend, charges 6 batteries quickly
64gb SD card for goggles
Skyzone USB OTA Receiver - does every new fpv pilot buy one of these so other people can watch?
2x Meteor75 Pro Frames (everyone and their dog recommends the M75P frame as the most durable, I got extra to build a slightly "larger" build for outdoor - You can use 45mm props with the Meteor75 Pro
Gemfan blades - mine have chipped already, but these don't really break
**After flying for 2 days, I'm ordering 100 M1.4x3 screws ($7) because the motor screws break off from the frame when flying/crashing. They give you extra but I've used them up and I'm on the last ones. I'm also ordering these 75mm u.fl antennas because I've broken the ceramic tip off of the antenna and if I go behind a wall I lose signal. No big deal, a few bucks. UPDATE - after flying about 20 packs, the antenna is better than nothing but not as good as the flimsy original one, but i did bend it a lot. I have a truerc singularity in the mail.
Lets start with the radio:
Radiomaster Pocket - (I'm sure this same thing works with Radiomaster brand radios, I followed along with people on the boxer and zorro - also if you don't have a radio I have to vote against the zorro for the small batteries)
Follow Captain Drone explain and setup switches (STOP at 8:30, where he starts binding. Betaflight update lets you bind from your computer. Start watching again when your drone is connected and the firmware is updated. Later he will walk you through setting up the "arm" switch and flight modes.

**I struggled to bind my Mobula for a long time until I realized that the video and the walkthrough on Github both failed to mention the "packet rate" setting in the radio menu when you press the ELRS lua script. The default is D500, and MOBULA WILL ONLY BIND on the 500hz setting. Anything with a letter in front and you will wonder what is wrong.
Update your Radiomaster internal ELRS lua script to have your binding phrase. Follow these exact instructions, but set the correct packet rate!
Plug in your quad and connect to betaflight (explained in Mobula section)
Go to the Receivers tab, set SPI reciever mode, with CRSF, and the binding phrase you put in the lua script. Save and reboot
Either press "bind" or go to the CLI and type "bind_rx"
Run ELRS lua script and press Bind. There should be a C in the top right corner. Your radio is bound.
Mobula7 1s - Setup and bind to Betaflight
Soldering BT2.0 connector - (gives you more power and more amps, highly recommend) This was my first attempt with a soldering iron. I watched Bardwells 30 minute tutorial and it helped tremendously. I started at 300C and it was too cold, I got the positive off but not the negative. The thru holes are difficult and so small. You have to hold the ground for quite a while for it to come out. I was holding the board and it got very hot, to the point I thought I messed it up. I tried again later with a hotter iron and doing quick 1-2 second bursts and it went much smoother. Take your time, line everything up. I successfully did it, but I should have practiced first.
Download Betaflight configurator (the web version didn't work for me on my Windows machine)
Plug in your quad and let Betaflight (BF) find it.
**SAVE YOUR CONFIG - go to the "presets" tab and Save Backup to someplace you will remember. After you flash the firmware, you have to reload the backup
Go to firmware flasher - Auto detect or the Mobula7 is CRAZYBEEF4SX1280. It should match the target in the top left.
Load Firmware (Online) and then Flash Firmware. You might have to save and reboot or unplug and plug back in.
**This is a huge part where I got stuck (I don't remember if it was before or after firmware). The radio and quad weren't binding. Finally, on the BF Welcome tab there are links to drivers. Download the ImpulseRC Driver Fixer. It is a tool which automatically fixes the incorrectly assigned driver for STM32 BOOTLOADER (FC in firmware update mode)
Move your quad around and make sure the model on the screen matches with what you're doing, and that the arrow points to the front of the quad.
Go to the Receiver tab and make sure your radio is bound with your quad. Move the sticks and make sure they correlate with throttle, yaw etc.
Betaflight Setup - go back to the Radiomaster section to the Captain Drone video. Start after he binds at 8:30. (You will use "bind_rx" in cli tab) It walks you through setting up arm switch and flight modes, etc.
Presets - this is especially useful because you can use someone else's information to get you started. I used the UAVTech Whoop preset, I believe it sets the master multiplier at 1.6x, and it works for me.
Bluejay Firmware - Everyone should have this. It enables bidirectional dshot and rpm filtering and makes the quad run way better with longer flight times. It's an online configurator that flashes the flight controller built into the Mobula
This OscarLiang post describes how to flash your Mobula perfectly. The only changes I made were: both common parameter sliders I moved ALL the way up. I saw 2-3 YouTube videos and posts where they upped the startup power min and max to the most allowed and it runs perfectly. (When you are on the "select target" page, the default leaves it at BLHeli_S, you have to choose the drop down of "Bluejay")
I chose the latest version firmware, and 96khz pwm frequency is recommended for tinywhoops and that it what I used. Definitely play with the startup melody, they have super mario and star wars tones that your quad will make every time you power up. Every time I plug in a new battery I get the super mario bros theme song.
Go back to BF, on the Configuration tab, my gyro update was 8khz and pid loop frequency was 8khz. After I setup the OSD, my controller was running at about 75%+ (you can see the cpu load in bf) which is about the cutoff for being too high, according to my research. Setting it at 8khz gyro and 4khz pid loop was the smoothest running for me.
**Please setup your BUZZER - I did, and the captain drone video he walks you through setting it as a switch. This saved my drone countless times already. Once you crash into a bush and take your goggles off, you completely forget where you were flying. The buzzer helps track it down more than you would expect. Flip over turtle mode is a lifesaver also, that is mandatory.
On the Motors tab, turn on Bidirectional DShot, make sure dshot300 is selected. The mobula7 has 12 motor poles. You can test each motor individually to make sure they are spinning the right direction.
**At this point, I could see the video in my goggles, and I could power up and arm the quad, but it kept jumping, twitching, and cutting power every time I gave it throttle. After lots of things, I checked each motor. Run each one individually and feel if air is blowing above or below, if it's not below, then it's the wrong direction. The solution to this was the checkbox under quad x "motor direction is reversed". I turned that on, and it worked perfectly.
I moved throttle expo to .30 and I like it quite a bit, everything else I left the same.
Closing - I'm sure I forgot/confused a few crucial steps, I'm going to be updating and fact checking these steps to hopefully help someone who was stuck like me. I hope I described each problem I had well enough so that if it happens to someone else, they can figure it out.
Since starting to write this two days ago, I've ordered a couple more things:
TrueRC Singularity 20mm locking u.fl antenna (best antenna, fits under canopy)
Extra set of HM RS0802 20k motors. Mine are champs but if one breaks I want to swap it.
TBS Trimph Antenna RP-SMA male ($20) - Huge upgrade to omni antenna on EV800D, if I find a cheap patch cable that would be cool but I'm saving for digital
Extra Runcam Nano 3 Camera (I want to try the TW Pinch)
2x Mob7 v4 frames - mine has pretty bad road rash (tinywhoop.com has cool colors)
New canopy with camera mount (the first few times you take it apart, the tiny foam piece is a pain to keep under the camera

So I'm designing this rack for an serious overdue upgrade my church is looking at doing, and was wondering if I could get some feedback on the design. It's based off of the Shure SLX-D system, 8 wireless mics. Looking at the Navepoint 18RU AV Rack. (it locks too :)
That 4RU gap of open space, is so that volunteers/staff can just pull the shelf out, put the mics in the bays, and push the shelf back in. (currently just throwing our 4 BLX's into a pre-k container and hiding it under the desk.)
My biggest concern at this moment is power. Right now, I have two Furman's (one for the antenna distros and receivers, and the other for the network switch, battery chargers, x32 Producer, and computer system) Note that computer system stuff will probably go into a power strip, and strip goes into the second Furman. (due to me being pretty sure that device power cords won't be long enough to plug directly into the second Furmann) They'd each plug in separately into the UPS, and UPS just goes into our outlet in the booth. Looking at this UPS here. Does this sound like a pretty solid plan?
Now I know traditionally networking doesn't go at the bottom, but the installer didn't leave enough slack to where I could put at the top. At the very least, maybe just switch it around so the UPS is at the very bottom, and patch panel and switch are on top? With networking being so close to power, I know we're going to have ground loop issues. Are there any ways to mitigate this? I know we'd also have cables coming from the top, but since the patch panel is literally at the base of the floor, I'm thinking about having some 1 and 2RU blank panels with openings in the middle for the cabling to come through fabricated. (cabling in wireloom of course;) Just don't want the cables to be out all willy nilly.
Willing to answer further questions or concerns! Just want to get a fresh pair of eyes on it.

Hello everyone! This has taken me days to type, apologies for the wall of text that’s about to ensue.
With the coming demise of Intercept Games and their long-troubled and likely-shuttered development of Kerbal Space Program 2, a question I’m seeing come up more and more, and have also asked myself arises: “How do we turn KSP1 into the game that we all dreamed KSP2 would be, with mods?”. is it even possible? I believe I have an answer that will satisfy you. This IS quite achievable, for the most part. While no modlist could ever match the dream we had/have for what ksp2 would become, we can get fairly close with the tools we have presently available. KSP1 is a mature, if imperfect game with a thriving modding community. Many mods are cross-compatible and designed to work together despite independent creation pipelines, and we have a powerful modloader in the form of CKAN that makes modding the game extremely easy. And, the best part, new mods are actively being developed all the time. I'd like to help you all create an aproximation of KSP2 in regular KSP, with mods, I call this list The Community Lifeboat Project. My sincere hope is that this will sate those of you, like me, who dreamed of a KSP2 that surpassed the original in every way, and still hope that we may someday see a version of a complete KSP2 in some form or another. For now, this is the best thing I can offer the community that has given me alot, in its stead.
Who am I? A member of this great gaming community, same as you. Someone who has at the time of writing, 1800 hours in KSP1, and about 300 hours in KSP2, and about 100 hours in modded KSP1, and many more planned. I am someone who prays to the Deep Space Kraken that my rockets will fly and that we someday get a fully-released and realized version of Kerbal Space Program 2. In the meantime, this what I’m playing in lieu of our long-awaited sequel.
Who am I not? I am not techy. I am not a modding guru. I am neither a customer service line, a mod author, nor a troubleshooter. I do not have the answers to any ensuing chaos or game corruption that may ensue from playing this modlist. This modlist is just me telling you all what I am playing with personally, right now. My best effort at Homebrew KSP2, if you will. Some mods may be redundant or break unexpectedly in the future, but I have had no major issues to date. It mostly works as far as I can tell, minor graphical bugs aside. However, again, I am not a modder or a game developer, I know about as much about modding KSP as you do, maybe less.
If you run into issues I probably can’t help you. You need to do the legwork yourself to learn how CKAN works and install these mods, and to troubleshoot anything that explodes.This is a curated recommendation list only, not a complete how-to guide. If some more experienced modders and players in the community want to review this list and comment below with improvements and revisions or point out redundancies, please do so. If someone wants to make this list into some sort of compiled modpack, go for it. Also please comment if there are mods known to be in development right now that you all think might be a good fit here whenever they get released, or just other stuff the stockalike-ksp2-in-ksp1 community should be aware of.
Who is this mod for? This modlist is for anyone in the Kerbal Space Program community who wants to make use of it, but is primarily geared towards giving veteran players new mechanics and content to play with. This modlist actively makes the game more challenging with new gameloops and mechanics to account for, it does not trivialize the base game or make it easier to learn. Quite the opposite, in fact. Finally, this is not a modpack persay. Again, if someone wants to make one be my guest. You do need to download and install each of these mods individually through CKAN, it takes roughly ten seconds per mod and is a somewhat tedious process, but the reward is worth it, at least to me.
How many mods are in this list? 142, approximately, at time of writing. About 40 of those are configs/backend/compatibility patches so about 100 actual mods, with varying levels of impact on gameplay.
How are your load times? Startup takes me about 5 minutes, loading VAB/SPH takes a bit longer than stock KSP but everything runs surprisingly well. Your own mileage may vary but I wish you the very best.
Disclaimer: Many of the mods here are relatively old and no longer under development, their most-current versions are built for prior versions of Kerbal Space Program. CKAN will warn you of this on install. Play with them anyway, everything seems to mostly-work so far as I can tell. Further, some of the mods listed here will require other framework mods like Kopernicus to make them run. Make sure to get those, CKAN will tell you when you need something supplemental for the most part, but I cannot remember every necessary sub-mod and may have missed some here. I have listed these under the “Precursors” section.
I will update this list periodically as more suitable mods come online, and am actively looking for more recommendations to add to this list. Many, if not most of these will be well-known to the habitual modders in the community but I’m trying to raise awareness for the rest of the playerbase.
My rules are that these mods must:
1) Be “stockalike” and fit the aesthetic of the base game, I am not looking for a complete game overhaul like RSS or similar.
2) This modlist is designed to be BROADLY compatible and downloadable through CKAN. I am aware there are great mods that are either incompatible with some of the ones on here, or not available on CKAN. The goal of this list is broad accessibility through our existing tools. I will also try to link user-guides for the mods that require tutorials where available, some of these are quite large and I do not understand how to use them all myself. I will answer questions where possible but I have only started using this modlist relatively recently and am not intimately familiar with all of the new gameplay.
Again, if your Kerbals are dying because life support is failing for seemingly no reason, I cannot help you and my Kerbals are likely frozen corpses drifting through space as well. I'm no mod author and have no involvement with any development for any of the mods listed below. If the descriptions here aren’t enough, do some research, there’s probably more/better info out there other than what’s banging around in my head/copied from CKAN.
Mods, if possible can we pin some version of this list going forward for all the people asking how to make a "Homebrew KSP2"? I don't need personal credit, just the modlist is fine by me. This post helps to answer a pretty common question we've been getting in light of recent KSP2 development news, or lack therof.
Anyway, here we go:
Objective: Mod KSP1 into what KSP should have been, principally by:
1) Adding new places to visit in the Kerbol System,
2) Add new star systems and interstellar locations to visit
3) Give the player the ships and engines, and parts to get there
4) Give new parts to build with, with a stockalike vibe
5) Add mechanics like colonization and life support to balance ship construction and general gameplay
6) Increase depth of gameplay for veteran players.
7) Give more/better “campaign” missions to fill out the base game randomized contract system with a bit more purpose.
8) “The intent is to give players a sense of pride and accomplishment”
What does this list of mods add to my game?
This feature list is not all-inclusive, but primary added features include, in no particular order:
1) -Vastly improved graphics, ground cover, and the ability to paint your ships similar to how you do in KSP2
2) -New places to visit: Both the inner and outer Kerbol System have been modified with the addition of 34 NEW bodies to visit between new planets, their moons, asteroids, planetoids, and other Trans-Neidonian Objects. These are all based on real objects in our own Solar system or observed exoplanets. An interstellar mod (Kcalbeloh) adds 7 new star systems and a black hole accessible via wormhole for your intersterstellar gameplay needs, with an additional ~40 new bodies to explore. All of the stock planets are present, plus nearly 75 new ones.
3) -Expanding and improving the Campaign with more meaningful, focused, and varied Contracts apart from the randomized ones stock KSP gives you.
4) -New Game Mechanics including but not limited to:
-New and/or improved UI elements to assist with docking and landing
- Life Support and Cryosleep mechanics
- New engines, mainly from mods by Nertea, a prolific modder and KSP2 dev, including gas-core nuclear engines, new electric engines, cryogenic engines, plasma engines, nuclear pulse propulsion, fusion drives, torch drives, and antimatter engines. New 5m and 7m engines for massive rockets are also available.
- Colonization mechanics and associated management gameplay
- New resources, distribution, and utilization gameloops through colonies
- Vast amounts of new parts to build with that we were supposed to get with KSP2 including hab rings, new ship modules, laboratories, buildings for planetary base construction, etc.
- The ability to explore your ships in first person mode as if you were a Kerbal
- New ways to move resources between ships such as flexible piping rather than docking.
-Orbital construction and construction of craft at colonies, apart from the VAB & SPH, away from Kerbin.
-Harvesting resources from the atmospheres of planets and dust/gas clouds present in outer space.
-Building Custom Service modules with both stock and modded mechanics
-Logistics Systems related to colony activities for sharing resources between nearby installations and craft.
CAVEATS: I am sure I have missed some people’s favorite mods and am open to further additions to this list under the following conditions: All of the following mods and any future additions to this list MUST be available on CKAN, they MUST work with the most current version of KSP1, they MUST be mostly-compatible with each other as well as this list, and they MUST be freely available, not paywalled. The only exception I will allow is Blackrack’s volumetric clouds because he’s our community’s darling and we love his work.
I want this mod selection to be as accessible to the community as possible while providing as much content as possible. Pick and choose anything from this list or the entire thing to use yourself. I play with everything listed here, concurrently, but your performance may dictate the need to leave some of this stuff by the wayside. At a bare minimum, make sure you have the relevant “precursor” category mods so nothing else breaks. This list adds A TON of new and challenging gameplay sure to give even the most seasoned KSP veterans pause and I’m very much a beginner myself, it’s alot of new stuff to learn being thrown at you quickly. Pace yourselves lads!

- Lt Duckweed’s QuackPack: Adds a slew of new planets, both terrestrial and gas giants, to the inner Kerbol System, inside the orbit of Moho. These are based on real-life exoplanets and are extremely difficult to reach and land on due to their hostile environments and include extreme temperatures, lava worlds, metallic atmospheres, etc. Adds 4 new places to visit.
- Kcalbeloh System: Interstellar planetary mod that adds several new star systems, each with their own planetary systems, orbiting a supermassive black hole. The Black Hole is accessible via interstellar-level engines and careful piloting, OR via a wormhole orbiting Jool. Assuming you have the Outer Planets mod installed and working, the wormhole will be orbiting Sarnus (Saturn equivilant) instead.

- Custom Asteroids: lets user control where asteroids appear.
- Docking Port Alignment Indicator: Self-Explanatory, Makes docking stuff easier.
- Hide Empty Tech Tree Nodes: Gets rid of tech tree nodes in the Community Tech Tree mods if you don’t have the mods installed, CTT is huge so this can help simplify it if you only have a few mods installed.
- ImprovedTechTree Placement: Tech Tree Mod that adds an additional engine-focused propulsion line. Grabbed on random impulse, no idea how this interacts, if at all, with other tech tree mods.
- Reviva: Dynamic Switching between multiple IVA’s in-editor and in-flight
- Speed Unit Annex: Adds speed units and some other helpful values to the Navball, depending on vessel type.
-Trajectories: Accounts for aerobraking to let you acurrately see where you are going to land

MOD TYPES THAT I AM ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR (please help):
  • A mod or combination of mods that gets KSP2’s soundtrack into KSP1 AND TRIGGERS TRACKS IN SIMILAR WAYS (i.e. not just a playlist, but performing in-game actions causes a given track to play, like going from Kerbin orbit to the Mun’s SOI, achieving low orbit and starting descent, etc. ) (possible solution now in the works thanks to u/ )
  • Some sort of part-welding or optimization mod to facilitate construction of much larger ships and stations and improve performance far past the current 250 part count beyond which stuff starts lagging and breaking.
  • Alternative/bettemore colonization mechanics mods for proper cities and landmark facilities and such.
  • More planet packs and places to visit, especially interstellar stuff.
  • Interstellar mods COMPATIBLE WITH EVERYTHING ELSE ON THIS LIST SO FAR.

MODS THAT I AM NOT ADDING FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE (and why):
  • Galaxies Unbound: Great mod, but suffered from some usability problems and has been removed from CKAN. I’ll add it back if and when it reappears.
  • Interstellar Extended: Another great mod, but sadly not compatible with Nertea’s stuff so I’m not adding it here.
    -BlueDogDesignBureau: Way, way, WAY too many parts. Was trying to make use of this before but its craft parts were making it impossible to find other stuff I wanted. Has plenty of useful components; far too many, in fact. Also not super stockalike. Never again.
-Kerbalism: a bit more complicated than I'm looking to make the gameplay right now and a whole system of mods including life support mechanics are already in.
-Mechjeb: I believe in flying manually, download it separately if you need it
