2024.05.14 10:51 mtufekyapan Marketing Guide For Shopify

Marketing is one of the most crucial operation for a Shopify store. There are lot’s of tactics Marketing is one of the most crucial operation for a Shopify store. There are lot’s of tactics to grow quickly and none of them not working. Well, if you looking for a way to create solid marketing plan, then this guide is for you. In this guide you’ll learn

Definition of Marketing

American Marketing Association defines marketing as activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. Source
What do you see here?
  1. Marketing is not about activities, it contains activities, set of institutions and process.
  2. Function of marketing is not generating sales. It’s creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that has value.
  3. In this post we’ll focus on Shopify stores marketing. However in the big picture marketing has not limited with companies. Marketing can be done within organization or society.
Let’s summarize what marketing definition for a Shopify store. Marketing will create, communicate, deliver and exchange offers that have value for customers. As you can see main subject in here is customers. Because of this, I’ll put customers as the center of this guide. Everything we’ll do has to something with them.

Market Research, Competitor Analysis and Defining Your Target Market

This is a practical guide for marketing so I want to continue with a hypothetical Shopify stores for each steps.
Let’s say we have a Shopify store that has some high-end, organic baby clothes targeting new parents.

Market Research

How can we do the market research?
Let’s say you have a new Shopify store that has less than 500 order per month. You can hire expensive agencies, expensive experts to research the market, create market reports for you, etc. Even if you do that, I highly suspicious if it helps you.
However you can talk with your new-parent friends. Ask them about how do they decide to buy baby clothes? What they are looking for before completing their purchases? Do they get any expert opinion before making buying decision? How do they search online and what they want to see? Is there any great YouTube channels about this.
Don’t have any friends? Checkout your friends not a new-parents but parents and ask similar questions to them. If you also don’t have them, try to make new born friends. I know how hard it is but let’s be honest here. If you don’t know anybody in your target audience, how do you manage to get know them? All of the successful stores I saw they have direct relationship with their target audience.
When you make your research with real people, then you can extend your project to online. Try to search as they do. What do you find? Deep in dive and take your notes.

Competitor Analysis

When you done this market research, you’ll also see there are some other brands. This is a huge subject but let’s call these brands as competitor for now.
Now it’s time to analyze them.
  1. Checkout their branding strategy.
  2. What are their value propositions?
  3. What is hot about them? Return guarantee, free shipping etc.
  4. What is not hot about them? Poor product or store design, low UX on the website, etc.
  5. What people think about them? Google reviews, Trust pilot reviews, product reviews on the store.
  6. Are there any partnership or influencer program they’re running?
  7. What is their Google/YouTube campaign strategy? Check it here.
  8. What is their Facebook/Instagram campaign strategy? Check it here.
Create a spreadsheet with all of this information. We’ll use this when working on positioning and marketing strategy.

Define Your Target Market

What do you say about our target market? Can all of new parents be our target market?
Nope, it can’t. You need to deep dive into your market and find a sub-segment, a niche that will need your products much better than anybody else and afford it easily.
This is what I called ideal customer profile (ICP). Check out what is ideal customer profile and how to create your ideal customer profile posts to learn more about the concept.
For our hypothetical store, ICP can be something like this;
Demographics
Psychographics
Pain Points
Needs
Buying Behaviors
After creating ICP, it’s important to spend some time on empathy map. Don’t forget to check it, too.
Now we know our baby clothes Shopify store market, customer’s buying process and our ideal customer profile.

Brand Identity and How to Create Your Branding

I’ll follow the American Marketing Association (AMA) in here too.
First look at brand definition. AMA defines brand as “any distinctive feature like a name, term, design, or symbol that identifies goods or services”.
Branding is for creating and managing your brand’s identity. It involves your mission, values, culture and public image.
I’m not an expert on brand, but I know how branding can be effective for your conversions and performance. Here are some checklist for you.
  1. Design consistency is the key. Your visual identity should be consistent across social media, Shopify store, emails, product detail pages, etc.
  2. Copy consistency is the key. Your communication style should be consistent across social media, Shopify store, emails, product detail pages, etc.
  3. Experience consistency is the key. Let’s say your brand looks like a high-end brand and when a new visitor visit your store first they see is an annoying popup saying want to get 10% OFF. This is simply how to destroy your brand.
  4. Craft a story and stick to it. What makes you create this brand? Faces behind the brand. This is a huge leverage for creating trust and building bonds.

Go-to-Market Strategy and Defining Your Marketing Strategy

So far we identified our target market and ideal customer profile. Check out competitors and creates the branding for our store.
Now it’s time to work on go-to-market strategy and crafting our marketing strategy.

Go-to-Market Strategy

Let’s say you recently launched your Shopify store or add a new line of products.
You need a plan to introduce your store or new products to the market. This is what we called go-to-market(GTM) strategy.
Main goal of the GTM is letting people know that there is a new brand or product line. It’s similar to launch marketing. Key message here is there is a new products/brand launched and it offer the best for you. Give it a try, you’ll love it.
All of your messages and communication should be parallel to this process.
Our focus is convincing people to try our products/brand. So I always offer a special campaign just for the launch to give people to a reason to try your products/brand.
For our hypothetical Shopify store we can run a special campaign for launch like;

Marketing Strategy

This is your plan of actions to sell or advertise your products. Now we can talk about selling part of the marketing.
Let’s say you have GREAT advertising creatives and a huge budget and just spending it. Don’t wait to crack the code and having lot’s of sales.
Your marketing strategy should be follow sales funnel. If you don’t have a high-converting sales funnel, you can’t expect people to buy from you. Check out How to Build High Converting Sales Funnel For Shopify post.
AIDA Sales Funnel Framework
Now we can continue with our hypothetical store example. We’re selling high-end, organic baby clothes on our store. We crafted our ICP, empathy map, work on branding and created our story.

Example Marketing Strategy

First step we’ll work on attention step. Our focus is getting attention of our target market attention.
We can create a educative e-book like “7 Harmful Chemicals Commonly Used in Baby Clothes and How to Avoid Them” and run some campaigns targeted new parents on social network (Facebook, Instagram or YouTube)
This ads will land on a landing page that gives brief information about why we should pay attention to chemicals in baby clothes for our little ones and make a promise like “I spend my last 5 years about researching chemicals on baby clothes and prepare this book for you and your little one”. Also there can be a quick video about our story explaining our expertise in this field and why we’re building this brand.
We can ask for their email address to share the book with them. When they enter their email address, we’ll send them this ebook.
After first email with the ebook, we can send a few more emails with easy to digest information about chemicals.
This will create an expertise image on our target customers and start to create a bond with them. Not a bad start, right?
At the same time we can use this content on our social media, right? Quick videos, infographics and posts about the chemicals in the baby clothes.
After getting a few thousands subscribers we can organize a webinar to answer questions. This will also a great content for re-used social media content and creating trust and expert image.
Then we can share a time-limited promotion with this people for a bundle. Like we’re running a campaign and these 5 chemical free baby clothes bundles 10% discounted until next week!
We can send emails about it and use this campaign for remarketing for only people who show interest in our e-book and webinar.
This is a very brief template of marketing plan.
Now let’s take a look at more common one.
It’s time for you. Which one do you want to choose? All of the experts recommending this without even asking who are your customers. Can you believe it?
Don’t forget that marketing strategy is not a hope. It’s a well documented plan of actions designed for turning strangers into customers.

Inbound and Outbound Marketing Channels

Inside the marketing strategy, channels plays a vital role. There are lot’s of ways to group channels. I’ll use most basic one.
Inbound Marketing Channels: With the inbound marketing your customers will find you and start the interaction. Most common channel for inbound marketing is organic search engine optimization.
After creating high quality content, when customers search something online, they can see your articles and first interaction happens.
Outbound Marketing Channels: With the outbound marketing you reach out to customers. Facebook/Instagram/YouTube ads, influencer marketing, display ads, podcast ads can be count in this category.
As you can imagine inbound marketing channels takes lot’s of efforts and time however over the time you’ll have organic marketing channel and it brings you customer without needing any budget.
Outbound marketing channels generally works with advertisement models and you need budgets to run these channels.
Most of time I recommend to start with outbound marketing channels and then invest inbound marketing channels overtime. Don’t forget to check Mastering Paid Ads For Shopify post.
Succesful marketing plans should be supported by high converting growth and conversion plans. Don’t forget to check Growth Guide For Shopify and Conversion Optimization Guide For Shopify too.
to grow quickly and none of them not working. Well, if you looking for a way to create solid marketing plan, then this guide is for you. In this guide you’ll learn

2024.05.14 10:47 LaminarEntropy Should I use a seperate thread to generate a world for a game I'm working on, or should I try my other idea to use incremental processing?

I am working on a game in C++ and I'm generating random terrain with a lengthly perlin noise function. I want to use the best practices I can in this project as I intend to work on this for years to come. Running this function in my main thread means that my window can't update until the function is done. My initial idea is to use threads, which I'm not comfortable using but I can learn.
My other idea is to make a temporary array of instruction objects that I can slowly increment through as part of the game loop. I would have an instruction class stored in the header responsible for the terrain generation and I would execute one or more of these instruction objects. I know how to do it but I want to use the best implementation.
My idea for incremental processing has 4 problems:
  1. More memory usage to store the temporary instructions.
  2. More design complexity and it's harder to read and understand the code.
  3. Limitations of the game loop speed (I could create a fast update function that doesn't depend on tick speed)
  4. The time it takes for the instructions to be added to the queue would have to be faster than running the algorithm in its entirety in order for this to save any time, otherwise I'm trading one kind of lag for another.
I started watching a video about multithreading and the person is recommending to avoid using threads at all costs unless necessary due to the added complexity. I don't have a lot of experience with threads to make a good judgement so my question is what would be the best implementation in this scenario? Also as the game scales, can a well managed single thread do a reasonably good job running everything?

2024.05.14 10:36 squamouser UK HSBC fraud department scam caller

Just sharing this so others are aware. I’m in the UK. I had a fairly convincing scam caller pretending to be from the HSBC fraud department yesterday. He sounded like a reasonably posh, youngish British guy. He talked to me for 10 minutes or so listing a series of fraudulent transactions that had just shown up on my card - at Argos, Vodafone and a bank transfer to someone called Mohammed. He knew my full name, address and card details. He was pretty thorough - he spent ages telling me how my details would be shared with the police Action Fraud scheme and listing ways my card could have been compromised. He wanted to know the expected balance on all my accounts, which I gave him (basically 0), my most recent transactions, my sort code and account number. He put on a good show of checking the details I gave against what he saw on his screen.
Eventually he got round to asking me to generate a logon code on my phone, which is when I (finally) got suspicious. I said I’d prefer to call back and he told me he understands but that he needs this to block a transfer and that any transactions that went through while I was in the queue after calling back, I’d be liable for. He got a bit arsey when I said I’d still rather call back, telling me that when this happens customers get charges for thousands and call back crying and there’s nothing he can do. He gave me his full name (ostensibly) and employee number.
I hung up and called HSBC directly, got through immediately and they were very clear that it was a scam and cancelled my card.

How To Protect Your SEO Progress During a Website Redesign

I. Introduction

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a critical aspect of any successful online business or website. It helps to increase visibility, drive organic traffic, and improve overall online presence. However, when it comes to a website redesign, there is a risk of losing hard-earned SEO progress if the process is not handled properly. A website redesign can involve changing the structure, content, and technical components, which can negatively impact your search engine rankings and organic traffic if not managed carefully.
To protect your SEO progress during a website redesign, it's essential to follow a strategic approach that involves preparation, implementation, and monitoring. This article will guide you through the key steps to ensure that your website maintains its search engine visibility and continues to attract valuable organic traffic after the redesign.

Preparation

A. Conduct a thorough SEO audit

Before embarking on a website redesign, it's crucial to understand the current SEO performance of your existing website. Conducting a comprehensive SEO audit will help you identify the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. Here are some key steps to take:
  1. Analyze your website's performance: Use tools like Google Search Console and Semrush to analyze your website's performance metrics, such as rankings, organic traffic, and keyword visibility.
  2. Identify high-performing content: Determine which pages, blog posts, or other content assets are driving the most organic traffic and generating the highest rankings. These will be your priority to preserve and optimize during the redesign.
  3. Assess backlink profile: Evaluate the quality and quantity of backlinks pointing to your website. Backlinks are a crucial factor in search engine rankings, and it's essential to maintain or improve your backlink profile during the redesign.
  4. Analyze technical SEO aspects: Assess your website's technical SEO components, such as site speed, mobile-friendliness, structured data implementation, and crawlability. Identify areas that need improvement to enhance the overall user experience and search engine visibility.

B. Plan your redesign with SEO in mind

Once you have a clear understanding of your website's current SEO performance, it's time to plan your redesign strategy with SEO as a top priority. Here are some key steps to take:
  1. Define your SEO goals: Determine what you want to achieve with the website redesign in terms of SEO. This could include improving rankings for specific keywords, increasing organic traffic, or enhancing the user experience to boost engagement and conversions.
  2. Identify areas for improvement: Based on the SEO audit, pinpoint the areas that need improvement, such as site architecture, content optimization, mobile responsiveness, or technical SEO factors.
  3. Develop a clear strategy: Create a detailed plan outlining how you will maintain and enhance your SEO performance during and after the redesign. This should include strategies for content migration, URL structure optimization, redirects, and other critical SEO elements.

C. Back up your website

Before proceeding with the redesign, it's essential to create a complete backup of your existing website. This backup should include all website data, content, images, databases, and any other relevant files. Having a backup will serve as a safety net in case any issues arise during the redesign process, allowing you to revert to the previous version if necessary.
Backing up your website is a crucial step that should not be overlooked. It provides peace of mind and ensures that your valuable data and content are secure throughout the redesign process.

Implementation

A. Work on a staging environment

When implementing the website redesign, it's recommended to work on a staging environment or a development server separate from your live website. This approach allows you to test and troubleshoot any potential issues without affecting your live website's performance or user experience.
Working on a staging environment provides several benefits:
  1. Testing and debugging: You can thoroughly test the redesigned website, including its functionality, design, and SEO elements, without impacting your live site.
  2. Collaboration and feedback: If you're working with a team or agency, the staging environment allows for collaboration and feedback before pushing the changes live.
  3. Minimize downtime and disruptions: By testing and resolving issues on the staging site, you can minimize downtime and disruptions for your live website's visitors during the redesign process.
Once you're satisfied with the redesigned website on the staging environment and have addressed any potential SEO concerns, you can proceed with launching it on your live domain.

B. Match the structures of the old and new websites

One of the most critical aspects of protecting your SEO progress during a website redesign is maintaining the existing URL structure as much as possible. Changing URLs can lead to broken links, lost link equity, and potential ranking declines if not handled correctly.
To mitigate these risks, try to match the URL structure of your new website with the old one. If any URL changes are unavoidable, implement proper 301 redirects to ensure that search engines and users are seamlessly redirected to the new URLs.
Implementing 301 redirects is crucial for preserving your existing link equity and preventing any potential ranking drops due to broken links or lost pages. Search engines will recognize the redirects and transfer the authority from the old URLs to the new ones.

C. Optimize your content for target keywords

During the redesign process, it's essential to ensure that your content remains optimized for your target keywords. Search engines rely heavily on content relevance and quality when determining rankings, and neglecting content optimization can negatively impact your SEO performance.
Here are some key steps to take:
  1. Keyword research: Conduct thorough keyword research to identify the most relevant and valuable keywords for your business or website.
  2. Content optimization: Optimize your content for the target keywords by incorporating them naturally into your title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and body copy.

D. Improve website speed and mobile-friendliness

In today's digital landscape, website speed and mobile-friendliness are crucial factors that impact both user experience and search engine rankings. During a website redesign, it's an excellent opportunity to address these aspects and optimize your site for better performance.
  1. Website speed optimization: Optimize your website's code, images, and other assets to improve loading speed. Techniques such as minification, compression, and leveraging browser caching can significantly enhance website performance.
  2. Mobile-friendly design: Ensure that your redesigned website is fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices. With the increasing number of users accessing the internet via mobile devices, having a mobile-friendly website is essential for providing a seamless user experience and maintaining search engine visibility.
By improving website speed and mobile-friendliness, you not only enhance the overall user experience but also align with search engine best practices, which can positively impact your rankings and organic traffic.

E. Submit your new website to search engines

Once the redesign is complete and you're satisfied with the new website's performance, it's time to submit it to search engines like Google, Bing, and others. This step helps search engines discover and index your new website more quickly, ensuring that your pages are properly crawled and ranked.
Here are some steps to follow:
  1. Submit your sitemap: Create an updated XML sitemap for your new website and submit it to search engines through their respective webmaster tools or search console platforms.
  2. Request indexing: Use the tools provided by search engines to request indexing or re-indexing of your new website's pages.
  3. Monitor indexing progress: Keep an eye on your website's indexing progress through the search engine tools and address any issues or errors that may arise.
By proactively submitting your new website to search engines and monitoring the indexing process, you can ensure that your redesigned site is properly indexed and visible to users searching for relevant keywords and content.

  3. Structure and organization: Ensure that your content is well-structured and organized, using clear headings and subheadings to improve readability and semantic relevance.
  4. Quality and value: Focus on creating high-quality, valuable content that provides real value to your target audience. Search engines prioritize content that meets user needs and delivers a positive user experience.
By optimizing your content for the right keywords and maintaining high-quality standards, you can ensure that your redesigned website continues to rank well and attract relevant organic traffic.

D. Improve website speed and mobile-friendliness

In today's digital landscape, website speed and mobile-friendliness are crucial factors that impact both user experience and search engine rankings. During a website redesign, it's an excellent opportunity to address these aspects and optimize your site for better performance.

2024.05.14 10:24 Kooky_Increase_9305 Pingpong FrameBuffer or ColorAttachment/Texture?

Hi -
In the Opengl tutorial for bloom (https://learnopengl.com/Advanced-Lighting/Bloom) they achieve the gaussian blur method by pingponging the framebuffer and writing to the texture bound at GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0 on each frame buffer in turn.
I already had a FrameBuffferObject class that was capable of generating multiple colour attachments so I modified the pingpong to work by swapping between those two colour attachments, but only writing to one and reading off the other at a time, as seen in the code below.
My question is, is my way of doing it equally ok or is swapping colour attachments/textures to read from a slower process?

2024.05.14 10:06 gulsherKhan7 Need suggestion or guidance about video editor tools just like Instagram

Hey React Native folks...!!!!
I'm trying to create an Instagram Reels editor with minimal features as mentioned below.
Features: 1. Add multiple videos 2. Trim the video and Play video on scroll. 3. Split video from selected portion.
My R&D so far : I will use ffmpeg for video processing, thumbnail generating, merging, trimming, adding music, watermark, and text. I know the end goal, but I'm stuck on the frontend side for video trimming for selected portion, splitting videos, video playing on scroll.
Does anyone have an idea how I can proceed this task? Like which tools and sdk will be required for video trimming, splitting and playing video during on scroll.
I just want to confirm do i need to do write native code for this features or i can do the same with react native using skia, reanimated or some other libraries ?

2024.05.14 09:58 emergency1202 What statistical test should I use?

Hi AskStatistics,
I'm quite the amateur when it comes to stats, so hoping to get some advice. This is for a paper in the medical field.
I'm analysing some data to determine what factors predict a positive finding of a particular CT scan (0=no, 1=yes). I have data on age, blood pressure, heart rate, etc., and yes/no data (coded as 1/0) for if they are taking a particular medication, have a history of collapse etc. I'm using SPSS currently. How do I analyse this to determine if a factor such as taking a medication is statistically significant in predicting a positive outcome of the CT scan.
I initially thought a univariate analysis with the CT scan being the dependant variable and all my other 20 or so variables as fixed values (analyse -> generate linear model -> univariate), but I don't seem to be getting what I'm looking for. I was (ideally!) hoping there would be something I could do on SPSS to generate a single table that tells me the mean/median/interquartile range for all my variables (or % of 1/0 for the yes/no variables) and the associated p value for statistical significance in predicting a "YES" (i.e 1) value for the CT scan.
Thanks in advance!

Notwithstanding, blackouts can occur in light of multiple factors, including serious climate, hardware disappointment, or matrix over-burdens. To guarantee a continuous power supply, particularly in basic circumstances, it's fundamental to have a strong electrical power plan B set up.
The following are five significant interesting points while building such an arrangement.
  1. Distinguish Your Power Needs
The most vital phase in making a compelling electrical power fallback is to distinguish your particular power needs. This includes figuring out which machines and systems are fundamental for your home or business to work during a blackout. For example, your rundown might incorporate things like fridges, lighting, warming or cooling systems, security systems, and specialized gadgets.
Whenever you've recognized these fundamental burdens, you can ascertain the wattage or kilowatt-hour prerequisites for every one of them. This data is vital because it will assist you with picking the right reinforcement power arrangement that can deal with your particular requirements. Remember that various apparatuses and systems have different power necessities, and some might require more ability to begin (flood power) than to consistently run.
  1. Pick the Right Reinforcement Power Source
When you realize your power needs, the next step is to pick the right reinforcement power source. There are a few choices accessible, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. Here are probably the most widely recognized reinforcement power sources to consider:
a. Compact Generators
Compact generators are a financially savvy choice for giving reinforcement power. They come in different sizes and can burn gas, propane, or diesel fuel. Convenient generators are flexible and can control a scope of machines and systems during a blackout. Nonetheless, they require manual activity and fuel recharging.
b. Backup Generators
Reserve generators are forever introduced external your home or business and are associated straightforwardly to your electrical system. They are intended to naturally turn on when there's a blackout and can give nonstop capacity to a drawn out period. Backup generators are great for the individuals who require continuous power for fundamental systems.
c. Sunlight based Power with Battery Stockpiling
Sunlight based power systems combined with battery capacity are an eco-accommodating reinforcement power arrangement. During typical circumstances, they create power from daylight and store abundance energy in batteries. At the point when a blackout happens, these systems can give reinforcement power, lessening dependence on the lattice and bringing down energy costs over the long run.
d. Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
UPS systems are generally used to give momentary reinforcement capacity to basic hardware like PCs and servers. They offer assurance against brief power interferences and permit you to securely save your work and shut down gadgets. UPS systems are accessible in different sizes and can give capacity to a couple of moments to a few hours, contingent upon the limit.
The decision of reinforcement power source will rely upon elements like your financial plan, the term of blackouts in your space, and your natural inclinations. It's fundamental to talk with an expert to decide the most ideal choice for your particular requirements.

- Ordinary testing of the reinforcement power system to affirm its availability for use.
By complying with security rules and codes, you can safeguard your property and the prosperity of those inside it during blackouts.
  1. Think about Burden Shedding and Prioritization
In case of a blackout, it's vital to focus on which electrical burdens you need to control with your reinforcement source. Not all apparatuses and systems are similarly significant, and endeavoring to control everything might over-burden your reinforcement system or channel its fuel saves rapidly.
Make a heap shedding plan that frames which burdens are fundamental and which can be briefly separated during a blackout. 2024.05.14 09:24 kaffiene Jextract with multiple dlls

Hi there. This might be a bit of a niche question - if there's a better place to ask please let me know :o)
I'm using SDL2 with JExtract. I can use the SDL2 functions from Java just fine but not SDL2_Image functions. I generated my wrapper code using JExtract pointing to the SDL_image.h header file 'cos that includes SDL2.h and I want my wrapper to include both parts. When I try to use SDL2_Image functions I get an UnsatisfiedLinkError so I'm pretty sure that I'm geting SDl2.dll loaded but not SDL2_image.dll.
I'm not sure how to resolve this. I previously tried making SDL2 and SDL2_Image wrapper libraries separately with JExtract but then I ended up getting the SDL2 functions all defined twice.
In short, I'm not sure how to resolve this.
Here's how I ran JExtract for my wrapper:
jextract --include-dir E:\SDL2\include --output src --target-package org.cactuscat.sdl2 --library sdl2 E:\SDL2\include\SDL_image.h

2024.05.14 09:15 Time_Confection_1187 I can feel and see my pulse when resting

I am a 26-year-old fit male (178cm, ~70kg, do calisthenics, wall climbing, running regularly, not drinking, not smoking, not on any medications) having issues with a bounding pulse. I have a normal heart rate (~50 when sleeping, 60-80 during the day, 187 was the largest I have measured during running) and normal blood pressure (110/70, sometimes it goes slightly over 120, which is "elevated"), but, for more than a year, I can feel and see my pulse when resting.
How it started: More than a year ago, I was really stressed. Many things added up, including family issues, a lot of work to do, finishing exams for the master's, starting a PhD, I was not sure what career path to choose, and preparing for my first public speech at a conference was also frustrating. That was the time when it started. I started to notice my heartbeat when resting, and then, at meetings, when I had to pay attention to others, I was entirely distracted by my heartbeat. I felt it mainly in my temple and neck. The strongest pulsation was the night before my conference presentation. I had a flight at night and arrived at my apartment, but there was no receptionist. As it turned out, there was an automatic check-in system, but my department (who booked the accommodation) forgot to forward me the email and the code. It was hard to reach anyone at night, but the awkward situation was solved after an hour. In addition, I was already nervous because I had never been to a conference, had never had to do small talk in English, or had never given a presentation to a lot of people in English. That night, I had difficulties falling asleep. All I could hear was my heartbeat, and the pounding in my temple was the strongest I had ever felt, which, of course, also increased my nervousness. Since then, although not that profound, I feel my heartbeat when resting.
After a while, I started to feel the pulse in my chest and some arrhythmias as well. I went to my GP, who sent me to a cardiologist. They were not really concerned about the pounding heartbeat, only the arrhythmias. My heart rate and blood pressure were normal, and the echocardiography and electrocardiography showed nothing. Then I had a Holter monitoring and had some NSVTs near bedtime that I could feel precisely. I was told to take magnesium, which made sense as I exercise regularly, and I always had muscle twitching basically all over my body. Since I take magnesium supplements, the arrhythmias and muscle twitching are gone, so I consider this matter closed.
I did some blood tests but found nothing worrying. As always, my total cholesterol and LDL are around the top, while the HDL is around the bottom threshold of the acceptable region. I have also checked for lipoA and apoB, as strokes have appeared among my ancestors, but they were also in the normal range. My morning serum cortisol was slightly elevated (789.4 nmol/L). My TSH was also slightly elevated (6.840 mIU/L), while free T3 and T4 levels were normal (which might be subclinical hypothyroidism, but I do not show the other symptoms).
This year was much less stressful. I tried to pay attention to not be anxious (I even started to meditate, although it did not go well, as all I could focus on when I calmed down and closed my eyes was my heartbeat). However, I can feel my pulse bounding ever since. (maybe it always was, but I have never attended to it before)
Do you have any ideas about what can be behind this? Maybe stress, something with my TSH, or perhaps all of it is normal, but I started to attend to it after my arrhythmias.

2024.05.14 08:59 gnarlysnowleopard Need advice on a) 2FA token backups (selfhosted and google drive) and b) using Windows Hello with fingerprint authentication for user and admin accounts in Windows 11

I am trying to improve my cybersecurity habits while finding solutions that work for me. I have three main devices that I use to login to various sites, namely my phone, my laptop and my desktop PC. I use Google Password Manager and let it generate secure and unique passwords for most sites and I unlock it via the fingerprint reader on my phone and laptop, which works super well for me. I might buy a fingerprint reader for my desktop PC as well soon, because it is my preferred method of logging into sites and into Windows. I have tried Bitwarden after several people suggested it to me, but I did not like the user experience and want to stick to Google Password Manager. I have two topics I would like some advice on:
a) To better secure some of my more important accounts I want to add an additional layer of security by installing a 2FA app on my phone. I'm currently trying out 2FAS but I am willing to switch to Aegis if it works better for my use case. Since my password manager is tied to my main google account I do not feel comfortable with backing the 2FA tokens up to that same account and decided to back it up to my secondary google account. That one can be recovered using my primary google account, but I thought it would still be better to keep it on separate accounts. It is also encrypted with a password that I keep on a piece of paper in my house and will also probably keep it at a close family members house. I am building an unRAID server soon that will be running nextcloud among other applications, so I would also like to keep a second backup of the 2FA tokens there, so that the one on google drive isn't my only backup. Is it possible to just somehow mirror the one from google drive to nextcloud? Or somehow create a separate backup once a day that automatically uploads to nextcloud? Would this be secure enough or do I need to also directly print out 2FA backup codes and physically store them somewhere? Also: I saw that 2FAS lets me sync 2FA tokens to a browser extension to also be used on my laptop and desktop PC, but I wonder if this would just defeat the purpose of using a 2FA app in the first place?
b) I currently only use local admin accounts for both my laptop and desktop PC, both running Windows 11. I heard that it's a lot safer to use separate admin and user accounts, so I had the idea to tie both the user account and the admin account to Windows Hello with my fingerprint readers. That way I use my finger print to login to my user account, to unlock Google Password Manager, and to confirm actions in windows that require admin rights. Is this okay to do or am I overlooking something here? I do sometimes install cracked software, and while I'm trying to do my due diligence in only using trusted sources for that, the risk of infecting my Windows computers with malware is non-zero.
I understand that my cybersecurity habits aren't perfect, but I'm trying to not let perfect be the enemy of good here.

Hey there,
Kind of new to llama.cpp and wasn't sure why my code to run speculative with code llama 7B and 34B ran into errors. I was looking over the documentation but couldn't get a clear idea of how to set something as a draft model correctly. Any help would be great, thanks!

Scam site in Sri Lanka warning
I was looking for corset tops which are made in Sri Lanka and came across this page called VC secret and the face of the girl in it looked a bit iffy and AI generated. I initially wanted to order but wasn't sure about size details since they did not list what size the model was wearing which I thought was a little odd and that's what prompted me to do some digging. Then I came across the exact images on Shein minus the AI generated face. Be careful of this site. I'll attach pics here too.

2024.05.14 07:46 BigHero4 The base building update we need ... part 2

I think this is a topic we should continuously bring up and discuss because I believe creating a base or home is such an important part of Fallout. After a long day of fighting off the monsters and horrors of Appalachia, we sometimes just want to come home to our homey base and admire our creation and hard work. The more I build, the more I feel restricted on what I can do and have to really plan and sacrifice some creative designs to meet with the building limitations. With the evermore additions to things we can add to our base, base building really needs to be refined. I'll add what we had last post and what suggestions were made as well. I'll also add more of what I've noticed from my return to the game. Previous post for reference.

Disclaimer of Understanding

Listen, I understand there could be hardware limitations in regarding to number of items or models that can be loading and unloaded at any time for the servers though we need to find some middle ground. A way to optimize the base limits to allow for more creativity. I also understand there could be programming limitations though refactoring some the base building limits is a positive change and worth while, especially to continue improving on this game long term (if that's what is planned to be).

Quick bullet points of Ideas from previous post

Base Building Limits Extended

Lets talk about some Quality of Life updates that would help our base building experience. I'll dive deeper into some of the points that need some extra points to it.
For the love of god, increase base building limits, since we cant have two camps at the same time..
A further increase to maximum storage is not what we're talking about ( while this is something that can be improved upon), we want to be able to build more around our base, the total base building limit is what needs to be increased. Wires should not be apart of the base building costs in my opinion, this would help alleviate some room in the limit. I'm also hoping that wallpaper and things inside the displays don't count towards it but I have not personally checked.
To add more to the strain of base limits, is it possible to put things on shelves? I feel like they're so bare, id like to have them display items like display cases do.. that would be an amazing change!
Speaking of display cases..
why hard limit displays? I'm a collector, let me show off my collectables :( .. increase or remove display limits.
Lets increase these AND do not have the items count towards base storage. It sucks so much to see my STASH storage so high and be like "oh, its all the stuff on display" .. AND in the vendor. Putting items in your vendor or on display should remove them from your STASH. This would help the currently implemented STASH limit and it would also be such an improvement to the build system.
I also believe the limits on display shouldn't be towards the category but towards the item. Wall Displays should be separate than the floor glass display or any floor display to be honest. Even if you didn't increase the total limit for building displays and just separated how many you can make of each (mind you don't decrease the amount to 5 each..), this would improve our base building quality of life.
To further talk about displays, sometimes I can't place wall mounted displays because that wall doesn't have support below, though I was still able to build the wall. If the wall exists, the wall mounted display should be able to go on it.
And how about an undo feature for the times you accidentally scrap a camp object.
This is self explanatory though this is me emphasizing that this is huge. Big feature needed. Just a general undo last change is such a big help.

STASH Quality of Life Updates

These points were mentioned before but I'm going to mention them again. I understand that Fallout 1st is a good way for you to make some money on the stash limits, so upgrading the already set 1200 storage limit is unlikely BUT there are things that count towards stash that should not be. Such as:
That's pretty much it on that front.

New Ideas

Scrapping.
Scrapping my building item (generator, wall, lights) and losing most of its materials is a little frustrating. If I built it, I should get my materials back though I understand that is what storing items is and that you want to continue to have a game loop for gathering materials. So, its not a huge thing if this isn't changed in some way. Maybe I'm upset because I scrapped a generator to build it after I change the floor and didn't have enough materials anymore to re-build the generator. lol.
Fast Travel Spawn Point
This is a really cool request. Give us the ability to choose where players spawn when they fast travel to my base? Have one custom spawn point that must be put on a foundation or floor. Reason I say this is because my base is on a cliff and sometimes people or even myself don't spawn in my base but on the side of the cliff and then I have to fast travel again. It'd be nice to just have them spawn in a location that is preset so that no one falls or gets stuck.
I can see players setting up traps and what not with this, though I think the benefit outweighs the negative. There are many free fast travel locations if you get stuck and you only drop junk on death so? Maybe I don't know of other negatives from dying but I feel like most people want to show off their homes and not setup prisons lmao.
Shelves as displays
I talked about this earlier though shelves feel empty and I feel like my kitchen shelving would look nice if I can store some ingredients on them. Make it look more full and lively. Otherwise idk what to do with them lmao. Doesn't need to be crazy, just like fill the front side of the shelving unit and have 3 or 4 items to be displayed on the shelf. Also if this is implemented, items on shelves should not go towards STASH limits.
Renaming Power Chassis
I get confused on which power chassis hold what or displays what. Its like 7 power chassis in my stash. It'd be nice to name them lol.
Mark as To Be Scrapped
It'd be nice to mark items as "To Be Scrapped" so you know what you want to scrap, or even sell. That way you don't scrap something by mistake.
Guest Book
I remember reading somewhere an idea of having a guest sign book so that people that visit could sign saying like "I was here' or maybe "yolo 420" lol but it could also be emotes, stickers, pre-generated phrasing that people could sign with like a date saying when they signed it. Would be cool. Even something that could be done on the personal terminal?.

Conclusion

Look, I get it, some of these features are big asks but overall the quality of life improvements to STASH limits by removing the items displayed and in the vendor would be such a good change and one that wouldn't require too much refactoring of the CAMP code base (I hope). A lot of what was mentioned is nice to have but some are like really important to the ecosystem of building your base. Display limit segregation, removing wires as counting towards base limit, fast travel spawn point, undo button are just some to name that would bring big changes to the base building feature in this game.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Until next time!
