2024.05.15 00:37 simply_lime Amazing service at Rivian Memphis

Listen, we’ve all been hearing all this doom and gloom about Rivian in the news lately. I’ve had some issues but Rivian service hasn’t been one of them. To start off the people at Memphis really do care about the customers they are serving. So far since owning my used R1T I’ve gotten a mobile service done for a tire rotation, and had some issues with my parking brake system that resulted in the car having to be towed, unfortunately twice.
Turns out I had a uniquely strange issue regarding some wiring near the brake caliper and some other small gremlin that Rivian service initially missed but after another tow fixed and triple checked. While it sucked to have my car towed for being undrivable twice, they of course covered the cost and rental reimbursement without question. Shit happens, and Rivian at Memphis were really trying to make sure I got taken care of with prompt responses and excellent turnaround time. I got a daily call for a couple days making sure I knew where they were at, while also giving me a pretty nice loaner (enterprise lottery with a mustang convertible was solid.)
Sounds like an ad but after my experiences with Tesla service it was really nice. Oh and I got a hat and a bottle for my trouble, which I dig.

2024.05.15 00:30 Zyairrahbrown Car repairs not done

So my car needed repairing after an attempted theft and I went to an auto shop my sister recommended. This was a private auto shop who is not in my insurance network. They had my car for 2 weeks fixing it and finally called to say it was ready for pick up.
Ok we agreed I would pick it up Saturday. The day comes I call the guy he does not answer. I show up to the shop regardless to pick up my car because it was time to return the rental and this is what we agreed! His son was there, he didnt answer the son calls either but the son released the car to me. Upon checking my car things in the inside were not fixed and touched at all how they were supposed to be. I have an all white car but black parts were used on it. Plus my airbag symbol came on after driving it home. and when opening my passenger side door the handle fell off!
I immediately took pictures and called the guy AGAIN. He sent me a text a day later saying he apologizes he was sick and in the hospital from diabetes but he’ll have a tow truck come get the car again so he can look at what he didn’t fix as if it isn’t fucking obvious. I call my insurance because I don’t wanna go back to him but now I have to since it was a private shop and they already paid. Ok I get it, I call him again today. He does not answer! But sends a text saying he’ll call me right back. That was HOURS ago! Now I feel like he’s avoiding me, my car isnt fixed properly and my insurance paid him over 6000 to fix!
What do I do at this point?? My insurance is saying it’s out of their hands which I get but come on they took your money and did not fix my car properly! And now he won’t answer any of my calls

2024.05.15 00:30 ColoradoSkater Too ambitious to do a hitch install myself?

I have a 2010 Ford edge and am looking to tow a 5x8 tow behind and need to either install a hitch or pay $200 to get it installed. What should I do?
Personal background: I'm admittedly not very experienced with cars but had a 99 Camry I DIYed several fixes for. Recently I successfully replaced camshaft sensors when the Edge started to run poorly on a road trip and spliced wires for a headlight so I may be overconfident.
I'm usually up to try things with a little time and some YouTube videos but I would never want to take something unsafe on the interstate with other drivers. So I guess my main question is if I install it and check that everything looks ok, could it come apart down the line?
Also worth mentioning: I have someone with much more towing experience than me coming on the trip and this is the only time I plan on towing anything.

2024.05.15 00:22 Ya_Boi_Blue_ Thoughts and Recommendations on final parts list?

parts list https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Pq4LTY
Hey everyone, I'm building a new PC that will mostly be used for gaming, watching TV and YouTube, and some minor graphic design and animation. I've spent the last few months going part by part and combination by combination to choose my parts to build the best PC for my needs within my budget, 2300 CAD, and came up with this list with my reasoning for choosing these parts. ANY thoughts or recommendations on the overall build, price point, parts or my writing skills are welcome and appreciated, Thank you!
CPU-Ryzen 7800x3d- I picked this CPU because it seems to be the best for gaming and some productivity, came highly rated and i kept reading that it was the best gaming CPU. I also read that even though the 7900x3d should be better mix for gaming and productivity it somehow is worse at both.
CPU cooler-Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler- I picked this cooler because it was recommended as the best bang for your buck CPU cooler while still delivering on performance, which let me spend more money on other parts of the build.
Motherboard-Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard- The motherboard was honestly the part that took me the longest to decide on since there were just WAY too many options and WAY too many seemingly being prone to being lemons of having had issues that have since been fixed. Why i finally decided on this one though is that the issues it had, frying 7000 series CPUs, had reportedly been fixed so long as I flash the bios before installing my CPU, as well as that it meets all my needs in attempting to future proof my motherboard without dropping 400 or more CAD on it.
Memory-G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory- Once I finally understood how Ram worked and how EXPO worked I basically went with what was cheapest in those parameters, not much else to say about it.
Storage-Western Digital Black SN850X 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive- Much like memory I don't have much to say about my choice of storage, Western digital seems like a good brand, I have a different one of their SSDs in my current PC, has about the same performance as similar performing SSDs while being cheaper in price.
GPU-4070 Super FE- I decided on the 4070 Super Fe for a few reasons, I heard Nvidia is better if I want to graphic design or animation as well as gaming, the 4070 super seems to be in the sweet spot for performance/price and I've read that the Fe retains it's value the best for when I want to upgrade.
Case-NZXT H6 Flow- I chose the H6 Flow because I liked the design, and I read that it was both easy to build in as well as being great for air cooling.
PSU-Corsair RM750- I'm stuck with this one because I already bought it when it was on a good sale, My reasoning for buying it though is that most importantly the wattage should be enough, and also because the RM series of Corsair power supplies seems to rank pretty high on most peoples tier lists of PSUs. Added bonus of being fully modular.

2024.05.15 00:19 No_Union816 Loud pop and major oil leak. What could have happened?

Hello. My car is Toyota Avensis T25 2006 1.8ZZ-FE engine. I went to service to change oil and oil filter. After that when driving on a highway at ~2500-3000 rpm I got a loud pop, smoke from under the car and when I stopped a huge oil spill appeared from under the engines right side (passenger side). I looked under the car and it seemed that it leaked oil from the position of oil drain plug. I parked car and came next day to tow it back to service. It started normally and oil was not leaking anymore. Mechanic told me that there he was unable to find any issues whatsoever and suspected stuck PCV valve which caused excessive crankcase gasses. When I asked if he found where the oil was leaking from, he said that he was unable to locate but due to high pressure it could be any weak spot - like crankshaft seal leak. He also said that he only added 2 liters of oil (total volume is 4 liters) so not all oil leaked. So after refilling he let me go and problem no longer present for a week already. No oil leaks are noticed now. Of course, I haven't tried to push harder on RMP.
Is it possible that "weak spot" the oil was leaking from sealed itself, because not all oil was lost and after oil refill there are no leaks anymore. Also I tried to test PCV system by disconnecting valve and doing "shake test" and it was fine for now. Also it looks like PCV system works correctly as cant feel suction of air from the hose that is connected to air intake before throttle valve (to the filtered air hose) and vacuum is created at the hose connected to intake manifold and PCV valve.
All this situation for me looks a bit suspicious as I thought the problem may be with oil drain plug gasket - wrong torque or maybe old gasket was not replaced or even removed. In this case I would expect all oil to leak, but I am not even sure anymore if it was not a case. Is there any possible causes for that or someone is trying to cover their mistakes (don't want to blame anyone, but I can't find any other explanation why problem just resolved itself).

2024.05.15 00:17 Fernmarx 2014 Corsa - New Engine, on finance

Hi folks, looking for some advice please.
I have a 2014 Vauxhall Corsa. It's currently on HP finance, with around 18 months left. I've had the car since December 2020.
Friday, it died. I got it towed to a Kwik Fit, and they've said a cylinder on the engine is warped, it needs skimming or replacing, but they can't do it.
I've rang pretty much every garage in my area and they either don't have the ability, time, or manpower for the job. I've asked a few garages if they have any recommendations for other garages and they've all basically said they're all in the same boat, nobody has the time/people at the moment.
I need to get it out of Kwik fit - probably going to get it towed home. I've been unable to get a quote but assuming the repair will be over £1k.
Is there anything I can do? Insurance doesn't cover engine repaireplacement if not due to an accident. I don't really have the money to repair it, or the money to pay off the finance and scrap it. What are my options here?
Any advice greatly appreciated 👍🏻

My wife and I are first-time parents returning home to LA with a newborn (<3 months old) and a good amount of luggage. We live near the VA Hospital and UCLA, just up the 405 from LAX. What's the best way to get home from the airport with a young baby and luggage in tow? As new parents, we'd truly appreciate any suggestions on how to make this return trip home from LAX smooth and less overwhelming.
We had our baby out of state to stay with my wife's family for support during the first few months. We're both familiar with LAX's evolving transportation options (I grew up here), but traveling with a baby is new territory for us.
Since we normally travel lighter, we'd usually take the LAXit shuttle to the LAXit lot and order an Uber home. However, given how crowded the shuttle often can be, we're thinking it's not the best option this specific return trip, especially with a newborn and an above-average amount of luggage in tow.
I'm considering hiring a car service, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or if there are other options we haven't considered. Additional details: we'll be landing at Terminal 4 and have a combination strollecarseat (Doona) that we'd use in the car.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.15 00:01 -BrownSkinSamurai- Dual Cam into Single Still Worth It?

I have a complete KA24DE + 5-Speed in a totaled '91 and want to buy an '89-'90 and swap it in. Both engine and trans need full rebuilds (would probably go and get it overbored)
My main reasons for the dual instead of single *Motor will be pulled for either scrap or build anyway *I live in CA and don't wanna deal with smog work arounds *the 5 extra HPs 🔥 *Most single cams on the market usually need a refresher anyways, figured I'd just "upgrade" with a newer motor *The engine is from my first car I ever bought and totaled (flipped that bih into a ditch driving to the store)
With the costs of KA parts shooting up is the KA still a motor worth building, or witht he cash I would dump into that is there a better option?

Additionally, conducting regular audits allows website owners to stay updated with the latest industry standards and best practices, ensuring that their web pages are in compliance with search engine guidelines. Overall, a detailed web page audit using SEMrush can greatly contribute to the success and performance of a website.

Preparing for the Audit

Defining the audit objectives

When defining the audit objectives, it is important to consider the specific goals and targets that need to be achieved. The audit objectives serve as a roadmap for the entire auditing process, providing a clear direction and focus. In the case of optimizing every web page with a detailed audit using SEMrush, the primary objective is to identify areas of improvement and implement strategies that can enhance the overall performance and visibility of the website. Identifying key performance indicators

Key performance indicators (KPIs) play a crucial role in measuring the success of a website's performance. By identifying and tracking specific metrics, website owners can gain valuable insights into how well their web pages are performing and identify areas for improvement. These KPIs can include metrics such as page load time, bounce rate, conversion rate, and organic search traffic. By analyzing these indicators, website owners can make informed decisions on how to optimize their web pages for better performance and user experience. In this article, we will explore how to conduct a detailed audit using SEMrush to identify key performance indicators and optimize every web page accordingly.

Gathering necessary data and tools

To optimize every web page with a detailed audit using SEMrush, the first step is gathering necessary data and tools. Technical Analysis

Checking for crawlability and indexability

When it comes to checking for crawlability and indexability of a web page, there are several important factors to consider. One of these factors is the logo design. The logo design plays a crucial role in creating a strong brand identity and attracting visitors to the website. It is important to ensure that the logo is properly optimized for search engines and is easily crawlable and indexable. By following best practices for logo design, such as using descriptive alt text and optimizing the file size, webmasters can improve the crawlability and indexability of their web pages.

Analyzing page load speed

Analyzing page load speed is crucial for optimizing the performance of a website. It directly impacts user experience and can significantly affect search engine rankings. Slow-loading pages can lead to frustrated visitors who may abandon the site and seek services from competitors. By conducting a detailed audit using SEMrush, webmasters can identify and address any issues that may be slowing down their web pages. When it comes to optimizing your web page for search engines, paying attention to the URL structure and redirects is key.

On-Page Optimization

Optimizing meta tags and descriptions

Improving keyword usage and density

Improving keyword usage and density is crucial for optimizing web pages. One important aspect of this optimization process is ensuring that the keyword, in this case, Wix, is used effectively throughout the content. By incorporating the keyword naturally and strategically, it helps search engines understand the relevance of the webpage to the user's search query. Additionally, using the keyword in headings, subheadings, and meta tags can further enhance its visibility. To achieve optimal keyword density, it is important to strike a balance between using the keyword enough to rank well in search results, but not overusing it to the point of keyword stuffing. By following these best practices, website owners can improve their web page's visibility and attract more organic traffic.

Enhancing content readability and structure

Enhancing content readability and structure is crucial for optimizing web pages. By following best practices, such as using clear headings, organizing content into paragraphs, and incorporating bullet points, you can improve the overall user experience. One important aspect of backlink assessment is analyzing the anchor text used in the links. In the case of a staffing company logo, it is essential to ensure that the logo is properly linked and associated with relevant keywords. By doing so, the website can enhance its visibility and credibility, thereby attracting more potential clients and improving its overall online presence.

2024.05.14 23:50 Apprehensive_Sink_91 Calibration

Question. After not getting a straightforward answer. I’m currently waiting for a violation hearing June 17th for a bullshit maintenance situation. I have a calibration date of June 7th, after calling intoxalock obviously they were no help and said they couldn’t push the calibration date back. They said I have to get my car towed to the service center, which I’m not doing. Is it possible my gf can drive my car there? Im confused because my lawyer said I couldn’t even move the car out of my driveway, but what about the people that share a car? What do they do? She’s a legal driver with no history so why wouldn’t she be able to drive my car there?

2024.05.14 23:44 cmbort Blasphemy!

Blasphemy!
So I told the dealer specifically not to drill holes in the front bumper for the license plate holder when I picked up the car 4 weeks ago and I’ve been using a cheap Amazon tow hook mount since. Well, after much thought and consideration I decided to do the unfathomable and drill holes in the bumper and mount the OEM holder. I guess the lack of symmetry kind of bothered me. I’m much happier with the proper centered look. Just want to thank all of you who gave helpful feedback on another post I made asking how to drill the holes. I couldn’t for the life of me find any factory drilled dimple marks on the bumper until I actually lined the holder up to the bumper.

2024.05.14 23:24 IamMBRN Car hit by under insured motorist now getting low ball total loss settlement

Background: my 2019 Subaru was hit from behind by a 2014 Mercedes SUV while I was stopped at a light. The other driver is 200% at fault.
Insurance issue: the other driver has a coverage max of $25,000 and Geico is valuing my car at $24,500. In talking to the adjuster he believes we would walk away with $22,000 ish after costs re towing/assessment/storage were dealt with. We felt fine with this as we knew we were working within a small amount of money. We moved forward with totalling the car but just got the settlement 2 weeks after the evaluation was done and Geico is claiming $8,7000 for less retention amount. This means I’m only being offered 15000 for a paid off $24,000 car which is insane.
We have coverage up to at least $50,000 but because my car went to a shop approved by my insurance ( State Farm) the costs incurred for the work on the ca towing/ storage would more than likely not total the car. Then I have to drive a repaired car and deal with the loss of resale value ( planning on doing that in 1-3 years as we had unexpected twins who were in the accident as well and we need a bigger car).
I swear half the cost of the towing/ storage is Geico’s fault for personnel reasons because they are slow as molasses and my car just keeps incurring costs.
Would you fight Geico on the “less retention amount” or should we restart and go through my insurance and hope that it ultimately still gets totaled?

2024.05.14 23:22 madhousechild What computer codes would you expect if an engine needs replacing?

TL;DR: My car overheated in the desert and a AAA-affiliate shop says the engine should be replaced at great cost, and provided a P0117 code and low compression numbers for my cylinders in the diagnosis. While I'm sure that P0117 would be expected, I can't believe that it would be the only one if the engine is blown. I'm pretty sure I'm being scammed.
Back-story: I was driving my 2002 Honda Civic EX with just 119,000 miles 75-80mph until it slowed a bit and would not accelerate. Nearby driver shouted that it was smoking. I pulled over. There was indeed smoke but not a huge cloud and it smelled like oil burning. I had my oil changed the day before. There had been no indication of trouble, the temp indicator was not high and I had been checking because I was in the desert, midday. I had briefly turned on the AC but it had been off for a while because I'm paranoid about overheating. I called AAA and after a long wait I was towed to a AAA-affiliated shop in a small city nearly 200 miles from home. During the wait for the tow after letting it cool for maybe a half-hour, it wouldn't start.
The shop charged $160 for a diagnosis, which they said was catastrophic. They said the radiator had been leaking and there was no coolant, which caused the engine to basically fry. I would need a complete new engine and I got the estimate down to about $6200.
At first I rejected the idea of replacing the engine. However, I was stuck and it seemed my only option since I am not earning a lot right now to get a new car. I left it there with the plan to arrange the financing of this bill and then they would order the enginer and it would take about a week to be done. I took a 7-hour Greyhound bus ride home. But since returning home, I began questioning.
I read the docs they provided and it said the diagnosis ran the computer codes but didn't list them. I messaged to request them and he said it was on the repair order. I checked again, it's not there. He emailed me the repair order with the same ID and timestamp but it had been altered with the addition of the code and some other stuff like my email address that I had just given him.
I reiterated that the code was not on my printout and provided photo of it next to the screen of the emailed repair order and he replied in all caps 'IT IS ON ALL VERSION IN THE SAME SPOT.' Clearly, it's not on my printout though. Red flag.
I assumed that a blown engine would generate a list of codes. The only code is P0117, which relates to the temperature sensor. He also provided in the printout these compression numbers: Cyl 1: 55, Cyl 2: 30, Cyl 3: 50, Cyl 4: 80. He had said they should be at about 200.
I now wonder about the radiator leak because I hadn't seen leaks in my parking space, and they may have checked coolant during the oil change (not sure). The shop had gotten it to start, which also makes me wonder if it's really in that bad of condition.
I had trusted this place as a AAA shop but checked the reviews on Google. The average rating is over 4 stars but there are plenty of 1-star "ripoff" reviews. I am now arranging my friend with a GMC pickup to drive up there and tow it back, and not let him know until we get there because now I don't trust them at all. I'll just keep stalling.
Does one P0117 code seem strange? My local mechanic says the alteration of the repair order alone is sketchy.

2024.05.14 23:20 brutaldimensionality Bad starter motor?

Recently I've been having issues starting my '95 GT. Sometimes it cranks for a long time, other times the RPMs will drop low and the car will shake as if it is going to die right after the engine turns over. This startup problem doesn't happen every single time, but it's a common issue and is easily replicable.
And today, there was a period of time where the car wouldn't start at all. I could hear the usual chime and the dash lit up when the ignition turned on, the fuel pump engaged, but it wouldn't crank at all. I was about to have it towed until I decided to try and start it again at random, and luckily, it started that time and I was able to drive it home.
I changed the fuel pressure regulator in case it was bleeding off fuel pressure while it sits, but the new part doesn't seem to have changed anything. I had the battery and alternator tested and they're also good.
Other than the startup problem, the car runs fine once it is started.

2024.05.14 23:16 PerfectCrouton Way under miles on lease ending soon. What’s the move?

I’m in a 39 month / 10k annual mile lease for a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited. Lease ends February 2025. Currently 13.5k miles on the car. Residual at end of lease is 31k.
Looking around it seems like the current value of this car is anywhere from 34-38k depending on dealer or private party sale.
So what’s the best move here? Buy it then sell it (my leasing company doesn’t allow third party buyouts)? Buy it and keep it? Turn it in and buy different used car? I currently pay $495/mo on this lease and wouldn’t mind downgrading a little.

Received $100 Uber gift code as a "bonus" for work, I drive a car and don't remember the last time I took an Uber or used Uber Eats. Would like to have $ instead. Honest, no tricks, and have used BitValve for other gift cards, but Uber only sells for around 52% on there.
