Been following this sub for a while and enjoy educating myself on current scams. Didn’t think today would be the day it happened to me.
I balance my books weekly for my businesses. And as I was doing so today, I noticed some micro transactions from a few days ago from a credit union I’ve never heard of and a persons name in the description. Ones similar to when you link your bank account to a payment service like Venmo or cash app. Yesterday there was a withdrawal of 10k to the credit union account. I called my bank and went in to sign a paper to temporarily put the account on hold and approve all pending transactions going forward while they work on getting my money back. I write a lot of checks to vendors, and understand the accounts information can be copied from there.
My questions are, how were they able to verify the micro transaction amounts to link my account to theirs? Can they just keep guessing the amount until they get it right? Or were they able to actually see my statement and confirm the amounts. I have multiple bank accounts linked to the same login so I figure if they’re able to see that one why haven’t they tried others in the last few days?
I’ve already changed passwords and use a good password manager. I don’t download sketchy stuff or browse weird sites. I’m sure I’ll get the money back from the bank but not knowing what happened will drive me nuts. Finally, is there anything I can do prevent this in the future.

This is the video I'm talking about.
It is worth mentioning that Fatmagic does NOT state he had a negative experience in the game or made this video to bash on THE FINALS. This is strictly a video of him trying the game out in two sessions, which makes this video to me worth discussing.
If you don't know, Fatmagic is a Team Fortress 2 YouTube content creator who specializes in playing as the Sniper. This video is him downloading and playing THE FINALS for the first time ever in a solo-queue experience, picking Cash Out for the first recording session then gravitating toward Power Shift for his play sessions. He stated he played through the tutorial in the video's beginning.
For his first recording session, he has zero knowledge of his gadgets and his team's gadgets, and no one on his team has any idea of it either when he spectates them. He doesn't know how objective works, how to play it, and barely understands the immediate chaos of the game's dynamic destruction. He doesn't play around his team and gets into loads of stray fights because the importance of sticking together and getting into team fights is not immediate. He doesn't use defibrillator to resurrect people, and never pulls out his heal beam. He was losing every match without ever understanding why.
He then switches to Light-Sniper for his second session and is able to garner a lot of good kills on players who don't know about the defenses this game has. He even stacks three grenades in his loadout and is able to freely toss every one of them onto the objective because people in the lobby either don't have APS or Mesh Shield unlocked or don't know of its utility.
Entering THE FINALS as a new player is an extremely difficult experience. Cash Out, the game mode that this game identifies by, is really weird to understand in practice. The tutorial is significantly better than before, but there's almost nothing that can really teach players the real dynamics of the game mode itself without tossing them into the deep end immediately. I understand the gradual Power Shift preference to most new players as its game mode is very easy to understand with its two team dynamic and straight forward objective.
Yet we approach another issue with these game modes being difficult to access--the locked arsenal items. It is even more difficult for players getting into the dynamics of these modes when they do not have all of the meta gadgets and required unlocks each class needs. It is true that all classes have a load of good unlocks from the get-go, even with Medium having its best loadout unlocked by default. However, that isn't translated well to new players at all because every gadget has such a learning curve to it that it winds up becoming difficult to build up effective habits of using them.
When comparing to Overwatch 2 or Apex Legends, unique characters that have just a couple abilities with the rest of the gameplay being similar between classes is what gets people to stick. It allows players to gravitate toward a class of characters or even specialize in one. THE FINALS' classes in combination of its large barrier of meta items needing to be unlocked, also have massive identity issues that are very hard for players to read for playing as them, and fighting against them. Each class can do so many things that the only real way to learn them is trial by error, and player oriented error can barely be afforded to exist in a team based game.
I don't know what the solution is, truthfully, due to all of these problems extending from the very core design of this game. I wanted to discuss the actual problems that new players, who wind up quietly putting the game down, end up facing in their time trying to get into the game. It's one thing after another that gets players to not click with the game. I notice it when I play with my friends, and I notice it when I watch new people try to get into the game.
TL;DR: A combination of a very difficult to understand main game mode, classes with a plethora of identities, and very important arsenal items being locked are all glaring issues that new players wind up facing. It is made worse when the only real way to learn the game is through trial and error, in a game where any error can completely lose the game for you.
