2024.05.16 20:27 CadeOCarimbo AI tool to pretty format a culinary recipes e-book?

So I am working on this project of creating an e-book of recipes but I know nothing about pdf design. I want a tool in which I can upload my e-book and apply some design template. As the input file I can use either the pre-formatted pdf or any other format like txt or markdown.
I know programming so a tool that allows me to input the raw text in an API-like way to be formatted also works.

The Muskox: A new passive mob yielding new items

Muskox

The muskox is a new neutral* mob, similar to a cow, roaming the grassy and snowy fields in small herds. When attacked, the group starts a charge and 'pokes' the player, dealing small damage and knockback. It is attracted by and can be bred using moss blocks. It cannot be milked.
Example of their appearance, a mixture of cow & sheep

Fleece

When a muskox is combed using a brush, it drops 2-4 Fleece. It is not aggravated by it. When killed, it drops raw steak & less fleece.
fleece, an item obtained by combing or killing a muskox
Muskoxen are used to harvest qiviut, a very soft and warm wool. It is naturally shed or gathered by combing the fur. In minecraft, fleece takes its place, the goal is to use a name that fits the simple linguistic nature.

Fleece Blocks

Fleece can be used to craft a new block, the Fleece block. Adding a dye after crafting it in a 2x2 pattern creates coloured variations, analogous to wool blocks. These blocks have the unique property of radiating warmth without emitting light at a small range, affecting ice and snow around and on top of it, as well as absorbing some fall damage. They can substitute wool in any crafting recipe except for carpets (or any that utilize more items beside wool)
A new texture for the fleece block, similar to wool

Yarn

Fleece can also craft a new item by combining it with string and any dye in a shapeless pattern, coloured yarn:
Coloured yarn, obtainable using fleece, string and the respective dye for a total of 16 different colours
Yarn can be used to perform the following actions:
When combined with any main tool (sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe), bow, trident or upcoming mace in a shapeless pattern, it can decorated its handle, acting as a downgraded version of templates:
A Netherite pickaxe with a red yarn wrapping around its handle
It can be easily replaced by using a differerent coloured yarn or removed by interacting with a cauldron containing water, just like undying shulker boxes.
Yarn can also change the 'strap belt' of enchanted books by combining them together in exact fashion as before. The default colour is red, and it cannot be washed away once applied:
An enchanted book using a dark-green strap-belt, useful for differentiating
And finally, yarn also has a practical application when it comes to decor. Right-clicking on any flower pot will add a unique pattern (or maybe fully colour them?). Breaking it will drop both items:

2024.05.15 09:29 SuitableLettuce Is it selfish to want only dry screws?

After many years of scrimping and saving, I've managed to obtain my very own bottomless money pit apartment on the outskirts of Sydney. So, naturally I believe it's a rite of passage for me to attempt putting up a shelf.
I have two main (of a billion) questions. Firstly, I understand that electrical and plumbing work need to be performed by a licensed tradesperson. I watched one episode of Better Homes and Gardens 22 years ago, and it's always stuck in my memory. Also, the best lamb recipe in the cooking segment - but I digress.
  1. I want to put up a shelf in the ensuite. I put on big boy pants and went and bought a drill and seemingly one of every single drill-bit that Bunnings sell. I'm looking forward to cracking my first tile, but I am not looking forward to nicking a pipe or cable, or the ultimate scrotum shriveller - nicking both simultaneously. There is already a towel rack on that wall, so there's hope for my grand plan. What I'd like to know is if there is a resource that's easily understood by a common idiot about building codes and stuff so I might have a general idea of where the pipes are? Such as "all pipes must be installed at XX height from blah blah" so I can avoid calling an emergency wrench wielding crack displayer. I got a good quality stud-finder from the green tin roof temple, but somehow it's tells me everything and nothing is a stud at the same time. The instructions said to place my other hand on the wall, but I don't buy into all that astrology and crystals mumbo jumbo.
  2. Many of my power points and light switches are looser than a stool after a sweaty evening session down at the local vindaloo dispensary. I have a feeling the previous owner felt themselves a bit handy and may have grabbed a 10 pack of Shenzhen house igniters from the Reject Shop and whacked them in the walls himself. Going by number of dodgy wall outlets and the empty little bag of drugs I found under the sink on settlement day, it's probably likely that's the case. Is there such a thing as, like, an electrical audit? Can a sparky come in and replace the outlets and tell me that the wiring is safe without having to pull all the gyprock off?
Lastly, is there a reputable way to find good area-local tradies apart from wildly googling and looking at every website that can afford good SEO. My distaste of being stung by service people is only second to that of bees and wasps, and it's happened to me before when I fell for a flashy Squarespace template. I'm happy to reasonably pay for deft hands with tools rather than web design.
TL;DR Mildly ambitious smoothbrain bought a drill and wants to know how to not fuck up his property.

In today’s hyper-visual world, a brand’s design is more important than ever. It’s the first impression you make, the silent salesperson that tells your story and connects with your audience. But a weak design can do more harm than good, confusing customers and undermining your brand identity.
At PixsMagic, we’re passionate about helping businesses create strong, impactful brands. Here, we’ll unveil five common design mistakes that could be killing your brand, along with solutions to get you back on track:
Mistake #1: Lack of Cohesiveness
Imagine walking into a restaurant with mismatched furniture, clashing colors, and a menu written in five different fonts. Confusing, right? That’s the effect an inconsistent design has on your brand. Brands need a cohesive visual language, a set of design elements that work together seamlessly across all platforms, from your website and social media to packaging and marketing materials.
The PixsMagic Fix: We develop comprehensive brand style guides that define your brand’s colors, fonts, logos, imagery, and even voice. This ensures consistency across all touchpoints, creating a clear and recognizable brand identity.
Mistake #2: Ignoring Your Target Audience
Great design is about more than just aesthetics; it’s about connecting with your ideal customer. If your design is trendy but fails to resonate with your target audience, it’s missing the mark. Consider the age, interests, and values of your ideal customer. What kind of visuals will resonate with them?
The PixsMagic Fix: Through market research and audience analysis, we gain a deep understanding of your target demographic. We translate this knowledge into designs that speak directly to their needs and preferences, fostering trust and brand loyalty.
Mistake #3: The “DIY Disaster”
In today’s digital age, it’s tempting to rely on free design tools and templates. However, these often lack the professional polish and strategic thinking needed to create a truly impactful brand. Amateurish design can cheapen your brand image and deter potential customers.
The PixsMagic Fix: Our team of experienced graphic designers is skilled in crafting unique, high-quality visuals that elevate your brand. We go beyond the generic, developing visuals that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also strategically aligned with your brand goals.
Mistake #4: Design Trends Over Brand Identity
While keeping an eye on design trends can be inspiring, blindly following them can be a recipe for disaster. Trends are fleeting, and your brand should have lasting power. A design focused solely on trends can quickly become outdated, leaving your brand looking irrelevant.
The PixsMagic Fix: We understand the importance of creating a timeless brand identity that transcends passing fads. We incorporate relevant design elements without sacrificing your brand’s unique personality. Our designs are built to endure, ensuring your brand stays fresh and relevant for years to come.
Mistake #5: Neglecting User Experience (UX)
Design isn’t just about how things look; it’s also about how they function. A website or app with poor user experience (UX) can be frustrating and alienate potential customers. Confusing navigation, slow loading times, and unclear calls to action can all contribute to a negative user experience.
The PixsMagic Fix: We consider UX from the very beginning of the design process. We create clear layouts, intuitive navigation, and user-friendly interactions. Our goal is to make interacting with your brand a smooth and enjoyable experience, fostering customer satisfaction and loyalty. At PixsMagic, we believe strong design is a powerful tool for building successful brands. We don’t just create beautiful visuals; we craft strategic design solutions that connect with your audience and drive results. If you’re ready to revitalize your brand and leave these design mistakes behind, contact PixsMagic today. Let’s work together to create a brand identity that truly shines.

2024.05.11 22:27 softtechhubus Mastering Prompt Engineering: The Key to Unlocking the Power of Generative AI

Mastering Prompt Engineering: The Key to Unlocking the Power of Generative AI
https://preview.redd.it/r329cc25xuzc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=bbd5d2b000df817dcde570829711e4bc79d9aaac

I. Introduction

A. Definition of generative AI and its applications

Generative artificial intelligence refers to a class of AI techniques that are capable of generating new content such as images, text, audio, and video based on examples or prompts provided. Some common generative AI models include text generators like GPT-3, image generators like DALL-E 2, music generators, and more. These models have shown great promise in applications such as creativity support tools, content creation, datsynthesis, improving accessibility and more. However, their full potential is still largely dependent on how effectively they are guided via prompts.

B. Importance of prompt engineering for effective AI interactions

While generative AI models have advanced rapidly, their capabilities are still narrow and limited compared to human-level intelligence. As such, their behaviors and outputs are heavily influenced by the initial prompts or instructions provided. Prompt engineering refers to the art and science of carefully designing prompts to optimize generative AI model behaviors for different tasks. It plays a key role in determining whether AI interactions will be safe, beneficial and aligned with human values and priorities. With expertise in prompt engineering, the capabilities of generative AI can be maximized while mitigating potential risks. It is thus critical for unlocking the full power of these technologies.

II. Understanding Prompt Engineering

A. What is prompt engineering?

Prompt engineering involves the iterative process of thoughtfully constructing, testing, refining and curating prompts to achieve intended goals when interacting with generative AI systems. Effective prompts aim to clearly convey task instructions, provide helpful context, avoid ambiguity and ensure models stay aligned. Prompt engineering leverages techniques from fields like natural language processing and human-AI interaction design. Its purpose is to develop structured, nuanced prompts that can reliably steer generative AI towards safe, helpful and truthful behavior across diverse scenarios.

B. Significance of prompts in guiding AI models

Generative AI models are complex deep learning systems trained on vast amounts of data, but they lack human-level reasoning abilities. As such, their behaviors are heavily driven by the exact text, images or other data provided as prompts during inference. Small variations in prompts can significantly impact model outputs and potentially steer the AI towards harmful, misleading or unintended directions if not carefully engineered. Well-designed prompts allow specifying context, constraints and desired styles to guide models towards completing tasks safely and helpfully. Ill-defined prompts may hinder model performance or cause undesirable outcomes.

C. Key principles of effective prompt design

Some principles that underlie expert prompt engineering involve making prompts clear, unambiguous yet flexible. Prompts should precisely define the task or scenario while providing enough context and examples. They aim to be logically structured yet concise. Conditional statements and progressive disclosure of information are often used. Templates, reusable components and iterative testing help refine prompts. Diversity and creativity are encouraged while avoiding potential biases. Collaboration further improves prompt quality. Overall, the goal is developing prompts robust enough to reliably steer models to complete even complex tasks safely and beneficially.

III. Expert Prompt Engineering Techniques

A. Clear and Concise Instructions

1. Defining the task

Effective prompts start with a very clear definition of the task or scenario. Vague instructions don't provide models with enough guidance. Examples of well-defined tasks include "Generate a short story about xyz", "Describe step-by-step how to perform task ABC" or "Respond to the following customer question". Overly broad or ambiguous tasks make it difficult for models to know what is expected.

2. Providing context and constraints

Giving proper context helps models understand tasks. For instance, if generating a medical report, details about the patient, time period and symptoms would be relevant contextual details. Constraints on length, content, style etc. make tasks well-scoped. For example, "generate a 100-250 word summary of the key points" sets clear expectations and boundaries.

3. Using examples or references

Showing models concrete examples of expected performance helps align objectives. For writing prompts, exemplar paragraphs, personas or samples set the tone. Templates can provide references on formatting or logical structures. For image generation, visually demonstrating expected styles guides models well. Examples supplement rather than substitute for clear instructions.

B. Strategic Prompt Structuring

1. Utilizing prompt components (instructions, input, output)

Splitting prompts modularly into logical components like instructions, input context and expected output format allows adding, removing or editing sections independently. It also makes room for multi-step prompting where subsequent sections are revealed iteratively. Well-defined components yield prompts that are adaptable yet cohesive.

2. Incorporating conditional statements or logic

Using if-then conditional logic and variables allows prompts to handle diverse inputs and edge cases systematically. For example, a relationship advice prompt could include - "If the issue is [category], then discuss [solution approach]. Else suggest seeking counseling." This imparts flexible decision trees to prompts.

3. Employing multi-step prompts for complex tasks

Dividing complex, multi-faceted tasks into progressive sub-steps through modular prompting enables systematic guidance. For example, a story writing prompt may first define characters/setting, then elicit a plot outline through a series of questions before prompting for a full story draft. This staged revealing of information and context aids complex interactions.

C. Leveraging Prompt Libraries and Templates

1. Curated prompt collections

Organized prompt libraries containing reusable components allow pulling together fit-for-purpose prompts efficiently by combining pre-engineered sections. They aid prompt customization and enable "Legos-style" prompt building for diverse scenarios. Domain expertise goes into continuously improving and expanding such libraries over time.

2. Domain-specific prompt templates

Templates standardize prompt structures for common tasks, domains or genres. For instance, there may be templates for medical reports, news articles, recipes, poems etc. They embed conventional rules, format guidelines and best practices of respective domains to accelerate prompt design for novices and ensure quality. Templates then undergo refinement iterations.

3. Customizing and adapting prompts

Even the best plug-and-play prompts need to be tailored to specific application needs. Adaptations involve optimizing instructions, contexts, examples and conditional logic unique to situations. Expert engineers analyze prompts holistically and modify them as per learnings from previous iterations, similar prompts or changed requirements. This custom calibration further hones prompts.

D. Iterative Refinement and Testing

1. Evaluating prompt effectiveness

Prompt iterations are informed by systematic evaluations of model outputs against objectives. Automatic metrics and human ratings can assess factors like alignment, coherence, creativity, factuality, helpfulness and success rates. Edge/failure cases highlight opportunities for improvement. Iterative testing and refinement brings out best performace over time.

2. Analyzing model outputs and feedback

Dissecting generated outputs provides rich insights into how models interpret prompts - revealing unclear definitions, biases, unnecessary constraints or missing context. User feedback on application use cases is another valuable source. Together, such analyses pinpoint prompt strengths as well as aspects needing enhancement.

3. Refining prompts based on learnings

Refinement addresses weaknesses discovered during evaluations. It may involve rephrasing instructions, adjusting examples/templates, adding conditionals, removing ambiguities, expanding relevant context et al. Testing then verifies refinements enhance alignment and performance as intended, perpetuating a cycle of incremental prompt optimization.

IV. Best Practices and Tips

A. Considering Model Capabilities and Limitations

Prompts must account for a model's abilities and limitations. For example, while creative writing may align some models, technical topics requiring reasoning may not. Prompts therefore need tailoring based on what a model was designed and trained for versus what it may struggle with. Overly complex, nuanced or sensitive tasks may require special considerations.

B. Addressing Potential Biases and Ethical Concerns

Models trained on large corpora can inadvertently learn social biases which prompts must avoid activating. Sensitive tasks require careful safeguards against harms. Techniques involve using balanced, inclusive examples; preemptively addressing biases; engaging subject matter experts to ensure safety and ethics are prioritized. Evaluations also audit for potential harms which engineers then mitigate.

C. Encouraging Diversity and Creativity in Prompts

While structure aids learnability, too much rigidity limits flexibility. Encouraging some element of reasoned creativity, appropriateness and adaptability in outputs is important for many use cases. Techniques involve using conditionals, variations in examples, embracing non-obvious angles on prompts, requesting novel ideas where applicable and evaluating beyond just alignment.

D. Collaborating and Sharing Prompt Engineering Knowledge

No single individual can master all skills or anticipate blindspots. Collaboration leverages diverse perspectives to holistically improve prompts. Strategies involve forming multidisciplinary teams; openly discussing learnings to expand collective expertise; building communities around prompt design best practices; responsibly sharing template libraries and case studies. This increases overall prompt engineering efficiency and standards across the field.

V. Real-World Examples and Case Studies

A. Successful prompt engineering applications

Some successful applications demonstrate expert prompt engineering at work. For instance, in translating COVID-19 healthcare FAQs into multiple languages through well-structured multi-step prompts with extensive testing iterations. Or generating helpful drug interaction information for pharmacists by first piloting the idea with subject matter experts to gauge nuances. Another example is how masterfully engineered conversational prompts drive chatbots handling sensitive customer support queries smoothly.

B. Lessons learned from real-world scenarios

Real use cases also provide valuable learning opportunities. For example, early AI assistant prototypes struggled with improperly designed identity and relationship counseling prompts requiring extensive redesign post reviews. Another lesson emerged when a healthcare bot produced unintended advice due to missing context in prompts - highlighting the need for supervised testing. Prompt failures driving harmful fake news generation likewise exposed blindspots until addressed. Such scenarios train engineers on prompt design pitfalls to avoid.

VI. Future of Prompt Engineering

A. Advancements in prompt engineering techniques

As models and applications advance, so must prompting methodologies. Emerging areas include semi-supervised prompting leveraging human-AI co-creation; self-supervised prompting enabling models to rationalize and critique their own prompting; multi-modal prompting combining text, images, audio et al.; causal prompting elucidating how outputs would change under interventions; continued standardization through shared resources like ontologies and benchmarks.

B. Potential impact on AI development and adoption

With further research, prompt engineering can transform AI safety, development workflows and adoption landscapes. Expert prompting may help align powerful models and establish safeguards against misuse. Techniques like benchmarking and best practice sharing may industrialize quality for wide impact. Self-guided learning through self-supervision could automate parts of the process. And as generative AI infuses more domains, successful prompting will be key to unlocking AI's potential responsibly at scale.

VII. Conclusion

This article provided an in-depth overview of prompt engineering for optimizing generative AI systems. It delineated important concepts like the need for effective prompting given narrow AI capabilities today. Techniques discussed involved clear task definition, context provisioning, strategic structuring, leveraging libraries and templates as well as iterative refinement. Best practices addressed abilities, biases while stressing diversity and collaboration. Real examples and future potentials were also reviewed. Overall, expert prompting emerges as the definitive approach to guiding generative AI towards maximally beneficial applications safely.
While generative AI has taken gigantic leaps, its full promise remains dependent on human expertise in areas like prompt engineering. Just as thoughtful design is key to most technologies, intentional prompting acts as the interface optimizing human-AI partnerships. With continued multidisciplinary effort, prompt methodologies will mature to tap AI's strengths reliably while avoid downsides. In the process, generative systems may evolve to handle ever more complex tasks autonomously. But for now, harnessing narrow AI requires our best thinking applied to prompt engineering as the crucial lever for beneficial, innovative and scalable human-AI collaboration. Our efforts here will define generative experiences of the future.

2024.05.11 11:58 Disastrous-Board4642 Babar/Rizwan are relics of the past.

I know that most people on this sub are dismissive of the IPL. However, I think the current edition of the league marks a watershed moment in t20 cricket. It’s not just about flag pitches, impact players or small boundaries. The range and hitting prowess of batters has significantly improved. The game has changed. And our tactics/strategy/approach are stuck in the past.
Few things to note:
130-40 is no longer a good strike rate. In fact, it marks that you’re a liability. The minimum SR that can be considered decent is 150-70. Good strike rate can be considered 170-90. And anything above 200 will considered excellent.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PAR SCORE! If you’re setting a total, maximise your resources. Most t20 outfits bat deep. There is no need for an anchor now. At max, one. And that too at an eventual strike rate of at least 150.
Bowlers like Bumrah are a rare exception. Expect even the best of bowlers to be tonked. An average of 8 is gold dust now! Even 9 is a decent average.
The 60 ball hundred Babar scored in the latest PSL is literally HIS CEILING as a batsman. He can do no better as a t20 player. It’s a complete folly, UTTER STUPIDITY, to play him in the powerplay. And both Rizwan and Babar can’t be in the same batting lineup. It’s a recipe for disaster.
Moreover, the template of bowling fast in the pp, spin in the middle is OUTDATED now. You need to change your options based on ground dimensions and match ups.
YOU CANNOT PLAY ONLY IMAD AND SHADAB AS YOUR MAIN SPIN OPTIONS. Shadab is way past his prime as a spinner. You need a specialist spinner, especially in the Caribbean. You need to include Abrar in the side.
Overall, the kind of t20 cricket Babar and Rizwan espouse is outdated and a relic of the past. In retrospect, perhaps 152-0 was perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to Pakistan Cricket in white ball.

2024.05.10 16:58 pluutia Some thoughts after "beating" Class of Heroes

Class of Heroes Review, gave up in the post game

Overview

Figured I'd throw my hat into the CoH ring and leave some thoughts about my experience with the game. I played on the normal difficulty, beat the base game in about 30h, and I am hanging up my gloves without having finished the post game, clocking at 40h. I finished with about 80~85% map completion and 60% of the items.
While I enjoyed the game as a whole, I think there were too many cumbersome things that felt like they were clawing at my feet every step of the way and that the combat + progression system was not satisfying enough for me to care about grinding.
Disclaimer though, I haven't played any direct Wizardry games so maybe some of the stuff I dislike is par for the course.

Stuff I Liked

I liked the actual dungeon traversing nature of needing to go through multiple nodes to reach a destination, it really made expeditions feel like a band of students traversing through the world. Before acquiring wyvern tickets and in the base game, I found that it worked nicely with CoH's inventory management, resource allocation, and balancing risk vs reward of a prolonged dungeon dive.
I'm also a heavy loot enjoyer, so I generally like loot-heavier games like CoH. I didn't mind the need to identify items for the most part either and having a limited inventory really forced me to evaluate what I'm bringing back instead of blindly taking everything.
Class and race restrictions and team building were also cool too. I enjoyed that I had to plan out race+class stat combinations and their paths to the classes I was initially aiming for.
The overall writing and tone of the game was humourous which was also a plus. The battle music was also decent, if I ever got hear more than the first 5 seconds of it.

Stuff I Disliked

Progression & Combat

Perhaps I was playing it wrong, but 99% of the boss fights that I couldn't autoattack through boiled down to seeing if my HP rng roll was lucky. If the boss had a low max HP I could blow it up, but if it high rolled then it would steamroll my team either out healing my damage, or blowing up my backline before I could setup (even with barriers and lord covers).
At the same time, the HP ranges dissuaded me from trying different approaches to fights - why bother wasting time doing fight setups when I could simply reload and try for a lower HP pool?
I've tried multiple approaches to fights where my teams couldn't simply blow through the boss - I tried magic focus setups, casting a ton of debuffs, but I never felt like the fights were really approachable from those angles.
Combine that with stats decreasing when levelling up, even with 95+ stamina, CoH sure made it feel like my progression was going nowhere. If there was some sort of deterministic method to the stat decreases (eg maybe fairies lose strength or demons lose wisdom it might've been okay) I could give it a pass as I would have direct influence and could play around it. Too bad, not happening.
Maybe my team building was just really bad as I figured I couldn't go wrong with a generic template of characters (tank/glass cannon dps/bulkier dps, magic dps/ranged dps/healer) but that might've been the cause of my generic approach to fights instead.
I also found the encounter rate absurdly high with no way of warding off monsters. There were talisman items but I never got those to work.

Quest Repetition

Please give me a tracker for which dungeons I have not completed yet for life golems, that's all I ask. Having to make 2 trips to all dungeons despite being in post game is an absolute waste of time.

Menuing

I think I liked the idea of having per-character money and inventory instead much more than the implementation by the end of the game. I'm all for inventory management but junk accumulates so quickly, and despite having passed all curriculum making me a "master" in all areas, my students were still too dumb and couldn't figure out what string junk was even after seeing it 500 times.
There was also no way to drop multiple items, bulk sell, nor identify + sell in any convenient manner.
Any sort of QoL for alchemy would've been appreciated - I'm not asking for automatic item creation from selecting a recipe, just let me access my storage from the lab and that would've made things way less frustrating and cumbersome.
Having storage per school makes sense lore wise, but was also more of a nuisance than anything. I ended up dumping everything at Particus and made trips back and forth any time I needed something.

Lost

This is probably an old Wizardry remnant, but with the ability to save at almost any time the death->ash->lost mechanic was more of a nuisance than anything. There was never a reason to not reload a save upon losing a member so the whole mechanic was moot for me.

Bugs

I played on the Switch and more often than not the minimap would flicker between showing the map and a blank square. To fix it I had to restart the game, but it would bug out just as quickly.
There were also some inaccurate skill description like the AOE divine healing spell and a few typos here and there.

Dealbreakers - Map Design

CoH prominently displays the % map completion, which is almost directly at odds with how the maps are designed. With a left/right entrance/exit mechanic, the vast majority of maps are either completely symmetrical or a slog to complete.
I found that I was more concerned with figuring out how to efficiently step on tiles instead of being excited to explore interesting map layouts and unique mechanics. With the boxy beginner maps this wasn't as much of an issue - the swathes of large empty maps weren't enticing but at the end of the day they were pretty simple to deal with.
The worst maps were those with rows of teleporters that sent you far away, meaning that to map complete you would either need to make the hike 20 times or spend time warping over and over and over again.
Similarly bad maps were the ones that had anti-magic + anti-warping + shock floors. My main team didn't have a full team of floating units (though by that time I didn't care enough to make sets of floating gear) and had given up on map completion.
Combined with the symmetry and generally high random encounter rate, it really felt like the % completion rate wasn't worth pursuing.
I know that my post was overwhelmingly negative but those gripes really only surfaced in the post game to me. The base game itself was enjoyable and I never found myself helpless and needing to resort to brain off grinding. Map completion was a slog, progression slowed to a grind, and I didn't feel like the boss fights were interesting. I still did enjoy the base game, though I'll probably put CoH2 in the backlog for quite a bit.

2024.05.09 21:27 ThaMultiTasker Creating a plugin to help create notes and expand ideas

Creating a plugin to help create notes and expand ideas
Hi guys👋, I wanted to share what I have been working on for the past couple of months and would love to get some feedback!
I am coding up a plugin that uses AI and some basic web-scraping to make your note creation more efficient.
Currently its just a prototype but hopefully (when I figure out how to code properly 😅) I can release it to the community. I have designed this plugin to work in conjunction with some other community plugins which I will go into below - but it can work standalone.
I would love to hear if this plugin could help you with your workflow or process!
Any feedback/suggestions are welcome!

Here's what I got right now:

To provide some context, I created this plugin to help with my own workflow. Every Sunday I sit down and expand upon all the notes that accrued in my Inbox folder throughout the week. This workflow usually takes around 4 hours and is pretty inefficient. So I figured: "why not make an AI just expand upon sources for me".
It starts with a note in my Inbox folder (any note really - doesn't need to be in a specific folder). I personally use the ReadItLater plugin to input things into my vault but it doesn't necessarily need to have a structure or template.

Templates

You can then create a template file for the AI to base its output on. These are essentially what you want to get out of your inputs - instructions for what to output. This is what I have for my own workflow:
Template Example
You can make it as simple or complex as you want. I use this template because I use the Smart Connections Plugin to help with connecting other notes - my plugin helps the smart connections plugin create better AI embeddings. I also inputted my Resources (Topics) folder so that the AI can link them for me.
Similarly you can customise the AI Instructions:
AI Instructions Example
After setting up the Templates and AI Instructions, you can run the plugin on the active note and let the AI go ham! It is able to analyse images, sources and other notes - just link them in the active note!

Input and Output:

Input
Output
The output of the AI can then be edited and modified to your liking. I manually add the projects and connected notes suggested by the smart connections plugin.

Template Changer

I have also added a Template Changer command to be able to quickly change the output template for different workflows (e.g. creating new projects from various ideas, cooking recipe ideas or flashcards from lecture notes).
Template Changer

Quick Prompter

Alongside that, for those one-off jobs, I created a Quick Prompter command so that you don't have to create a whole new template. It essentially uses the prompt as an instruction. Great for questioning inputs.
https://preview.redd.it/jt4r2zbe5gzc1.png?width=641&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c382bea9dd841a77357c55766c00026855b2c9c

Some other plugins I use that synergise well:

Omnisearch
Text Generator
MARP Slides or Advanced Slides
Pretty much works alongside any plugin that requires things to be in a certain template.
Hope this post isn't too long 😅. I've been using this pretty much every week for my personal notes and it's been great!
Would love to hear about how you guys could use this plugin in your own workflow!
Side note: I think this could totally help with Dungeons and Dragons world management and creation.

2024.05.09 01:55 DarkFlame7 Using LLaMA (or similar) for cooking/recipe ideas with a given list of ingredients?

(I've only recently started to mess with local LLMs so forgive me for being a little behind or not knowing certain terms).
I've had this idea for a while of using an LLM to come up with ideas for simple recipes. More specifically, to supply a list of ingredients that I have available and have it give me ideas for recipes that utilize those ingredients. So far when I try it with LLaMA 3, however, it hasn't really worked out like I hoped. It mostly gives me recipes that don't make any sense (like using kale as a garnish)
I'm wondering if anyone has already done some work on this. Is there a finetune specifically for cooking recipes? Or an instruction template or something? Searching for anything on this is hard because people use cooking-related terms a lot for LLM stuff (try looking up meta llama recipes and you'll just get the official repository for how to use the model, and similar results... And cooking isn't any better, people just discussing finetune methods).
I'm aware that I need to take any cooking recipes from an LLM with a massive grain of salt, but I can't be the only one who's thought of this use-case. I think it has potential as long as you have any level of cooking experience to know when it's hallucinating.
For reference, I've mostly tried with LLaMA 3 Instruct 7B and the Divine Intellect preset in the oobabooga webui.

2024.05.08 20:55 Financial_Pitch_8593 What do you use to build a landing page?

"What do you use to build a landing page?" Well, let me share some insights based on my experiences.
When it comes to building a landing page, there are several tools and technologies you can leverage, depending on your skill level and specific requirements. Here are a few popular options you might want to consider:
  1. HTML/CSS/JavaScript: If you're comfortable with coding, a simple landing page can be created using these fundamental web technologies. They provide you with the flexibility to design and customize your page exactly how you want it.
  2. Content Management Systems (CMS): Platforms like WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal offer user-friendly interfaces and templates that make it easy to create landing pages without extensive coding knowledge. They are great for quick setups and managing content.
  3. Website Builders: Tools like Wix, Squarespace, or Weebly provide drag-and-drop interfaces that enable you to create visually appealing landing pages with ease. These platforms often come with hosting services, making it a one-stop solution.
  4. Bootstrap or other CSS frameworks: Leveraging frameworks like Bootstrap can speed up the development process by providing pre-designed components and responsive layouts. This can be a great option if you want a professional-looking landing page without starting from scratch.

Website Design Pain Points and Practical Solutions

Introduction

A well-designed website could make or break a business or person. But even the most passionate designers can be scared by the problems that stand in the way of a perfect digital presence. In this study on "Website Design Pain Points and Practical Solutions," we wanted to find out the most common problems web designers face and how to solve them.
To get to the heart of these problems, we have to wade into the murky waters of undefined goals, limited resources, and the complicated world of technical knowledge. With our help, you'll be able to get past these problems and end up with a website that not only meets your expectations but also exceeds them.
This book is written to help anyone, from a newbie who is just starting out to a seasoned pro who wants to improve their skills, take on the tasks of web design with confidence.

1. Lack of Clarity in Website Goals

Conducting audience research:

If your website's goals aren't clear, you need to do a lot of study about your audience. It's important to learn about the demographics, interests, and habits of the people you want to reach. Gather information from polls, interviews, and analytics tools to make user personas. Using these personalities as a help, you might be able to make a website that speaks well to your target audience.

Creating a detailed project brief:

A well-thought-out project plan is the key to making a good website. This document should have all the important information, such as the project's goals, audience, main features, and style preferences. The project's timeline, key goals, and results must be clear. With the help of a well-organized project brief, everyone will be on the same page. This will cut down on misunderstanding and "scope creep" and keep the project focused on its original goals.

Setting SMART goals:

Setting SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) goals will help you figure out what your website is for. Be clear when you write down your goals. Instead of making vague hopes, set goals that can be measured. With better SEO and content marketing, the goal is to increase organic website traffic by 20% in six months. This is a more specific goal than "increase website traffic." Set SMART goals that can be easily measured, watched, and changed as needed to make sure your website design fits with your bigger goals.

2. Budget Constraints

Prioritizing essential features:

When you only have a few tools, it's important to focus on the most important parts of a website. You should give the most important parts of your website the most attention. Don't waste money on extra functions that you don't have to have. To keep your website's most important functions and features working well, you need a firm grasp on your top goals.

Exploring open-source solutions:

Use open-source tools and frameworks to make a website for very little money up front. Programming costs can be cut by a lot if you use an open-source CMS like WordPress or Joomla. With the templates and tools they offer, you can make a unique website with lots of features without spending a lot of money on custom coding.

Considering DIY vs. professional services:

People on a tight budget can create their own websites, but they can also hire a professional. DIY sites can save you money, but they don't always look as good or work as well as those made by professionals. Think about the technological problems you might run into and how big your job is. Paying for professional web design services can be worth it if it makes your site look more professional and helps you reach your goals.

3. Technical Expertise Gap

Enrolling in online courses:

If you don't have much technical knowledge, taking web development lessons online might help. A lot of websites teach HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other tools for making websites. These classes can help you learn the basics of web development so you can make smart design decisions.

Utilizing user-friendly website builders:

Some easy-to-use website builders include Wix, Squarespace, and Weebly. They make the planning process easier by offering ready-made layouts and drag-and-drop interfaces. If you don't have much experience with coding, these tools can help you make a website that looks like it was made by a professional.

Collaborating with skilled professionals:

Working with web design experts is usually the best choice for projects with a lot riding on them or that are complicated. Professional web design and creation services give you access to knowledge, experience, and an eye for how things look and work. They can make sure that your website is both technically sound and gives users a good time.

4. Choosing the Right Platform

Analyzing platform features:

It is important to use the right tool when making a website. As a first step, compare and contrast the functions of the website-building tools that are already available. Think about how well it fits your and your website's needs in terms of being flexible, scalable, easy to use, and compatible. By looking at the pros and cons of each platform, you can make a choice that fits the needs of your project.

Consulting experts for recommendations:

When you're not sure, it's best to ask an expert. People should talk to web designers and writers who have worked on more than one platform. They can give you advice and ideas that are right for you. Experts in the field can tell you which platform will work best for your project.

Highlighting platform-specific benefits:

One website platform is better than another in some ways. Whether it's Shopify's wide range of e-commerce tools, WordPress's flexible content management system, or Wix's easy-to-use website builder, highlight the features of the platform that help your project reach its goals. Show how these benefits can help your website succeed. Make sure that the platform you choose helps your design, not hurts it.

5. Content Creation Challenges

Content planning and organization:

The information on a webpage is what keeps it alive. To get around problems, plan and organise your content creation process. Make a content plan that says what will come out when and who is responsible for making that content. You need a plan if you want to keep people interested in your website and going towards your goals.

Content creation tools and templates:

Using tools and templates can make it easy to make content. Try Canva, Adobe Spark, or Grammarly if you need help with graphics, videos, or proofreading. With the help of themes, you can quickly make things like blog posts, product descriptions, and more. You can make sure that your content is consistent and of good quality by using these tools.

Hiring content creators or copywriters:

If you're stuck, you might want to hire skilled writers or content developers. Experts in this field may be able to write interesting, convincing content that is just right for your target audience. They may also check to make sure your content is free of mistakes and set up for search engines, which will make the site work better overall.
