Can't pick between apartments after pondering for days

2024.05.22 00:57 lzxnl Can't pick between apartments after pondering for days

Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I are moving in July, both working in the financial district, and after spending a few full days looking up different apartments, asking different companies for the additional fees, asking for video tours and looking at locations that also have availabilities around our move-in date, we have narrowed our search to the following apartments: Liberty Towers, Urby Jersey City, Urby Harrison, Warren at York, 225 Grand, 18 Park Street. We are looking only at one bedroom apartments for now; we might look at two bedroom apartments later on in our careers and/or stage of life.
So far, there are three categories of apartments.
  1. Liberty Towers, Urby Jersey City. Fairly pricey, but they're close to the ferry and the PATH station; the ferry provides me an alternative way to travel to work if the PATH dies. Between these, Liberty is larger, Urby is smaller.
Liberty pros:
Larger for the same price. I don't know if the Urby 1b1b apartments are large enough, and unless we go for the $4145 apartments, they'll be smaller than our current dorm apartment. We could then actually set up a work area in this apartment, or store all of our excess bags.
Slightly better views than Urby; the available Urby apartments are north and/or west facing, whereas Liberty has east-facing apartments available.
Urby pros:
Community. We am currently fairly active in our current dorm community, and this is appealing to us. I hear they have 4-5 events per month? Though I don't know what events these tend to be.
Better maintenance. There seems to be much fewer complaints about the Urby maintenance, and better sound-proofing too.
Views still beat out the other groups
Closer to Newport PATH?
  1. Warren at York vs 225 Grand vs 18 Park Street
All three have fairly high Google reviews, seem to be better value for money, probably don't have the Liberty Towers elevator problem. However, views are worse than that of the first group. My feeling is that these are safe options, but not special. 225 Grand seems to have the largest apartments and is the cheapest of the three, though Warren at York is slightly closer. The views at all three apartment buildings aren't much to celebrate about. Otherwise, I don't know much about the different apartment buildings.
The 18 Park Street room has a terrace? I don't know if that means our neighbours can randomly walk up to our room...
  1. Urby Harrison
For a slightly lower price than the other groups, we could look for a two-bedroom apartment in Harrison, and still meet other residents (though according to floor plans, the two-bedroom apartments are smaller than the Liberty Towers 1b apartments...). The problems are that it's in Harrison, which is a 30 minute PATH ride to work, and if the PATH is down, there's no way either of us are making it to work, or back home, whereas the other two groups, walking to the ferry is always an option. I have also heard that there is a lot of industry in Harrison, that not much happens there, and that the air quality is questionable, to say the least.
tl;dr, currently, I am weighing up between these groups, and then choosing an actual apartment. We do want to meet people in NJ/NYC, as we'll be starting work here, hence the appeal for Urby. While we could afford a $5k apartment, we would rather keep our budget to about $4k, unless it's truly worth it. We also have quite a few bags that we need to bring with us, and our current apartment is 670 sq feet, so it would feel bad to move to a smaller apartment after graduation. On the other hand, we've heard about the bad news about Liberty Towers. The second group seems to be ok, and 225 Grand apartments are certainly large enough, but the location is not quite as desirable, and the views aren't as great. What do you guys all suggest? Thanks for any suggestions!

2024.05.22 00:01 ArkOfTheCube Alex Jones IS Bill Hicks

Alex Jones IS Bill Hicks
Why the Bill Hicks is Alex Jones theory needs to be taken seriously
1. Bill Hicks was good friends with his producer, Kevin Booth. Alex Jones is good friends with his producer, Kevin Booth.
2. Same exact hairline.
3. Same exact teeth.
4. They have brown eyes, similar mannerisms, similar outbursts, similar anti-establishment ideology. They smoke cigarettes the same way, by holding it in the middle like a joint.
5. Bill Hicks made a joke about selling an orange drink after calling out elite globalists who use media to keep people stupid. Alex Jones does all that, including selling an orange drink- Tangy Tangerine.
6. In Bill Hicks co-written by Kevin Booth, there was a part where Kevin mentioned that on the way back from Bill Hicks funeral, Bill had appeared sitting shotgun and said that he had done it. He pulled off the world’s biggest joke like it was all a magic trick. Sounds to me like Kevin threw that in there as another form of mockery proving that Bill never died.
7. Bill Hicks said in an interview that he wants to go down routes that aren't mainstream.
8. Alex Jones claims to be 45, but he looks more like 57- the age Hicks would be if he wasn't dead.
9. Bill Hicks did a redneck impression that sounds exactly like Alex Jones. He also did a bit about how he took a big check for a new project and he said "and BOOM, one check I'm Al.., I'm a producer!" as if he almost spilled the beans.
10. Bill Hick's and Alex Jones' work timelines never coincide. Bill Hicks died in 94, and Alex Jones appeared in 97.
11. Yearbook photos and birth/death certificates mean nothing. If a death was faked, the government would have to aid in manipulating those documents. The yearbook photo of Jones looks like any white person. The Yearbook photo of Hicks means nothing- he sold out to the CIA in 1994.
12. Hicks thrived in humor that bashed media, Hollywood and questioned anything mainstream. He was growing in popularity and he was able to make jokes in a smart way that could wake people up. The CIA made him an offer that he couldn't refuse to become the controlled opposition as a character- Hicks was happy to embark a new life as a character and be set for life. Alex Jones' Infowars brings in $50M every year.
13. They have the same moles on their neck, in the same exact place. Bill Hicks had a mole on his left cheek; Alex Jones has a circular scar on his left cheek in the exact same spot.
14. This theory is something that is ridiculed in every community it is presented in. Seems like the work of bots to keep the secret behind the CIA's controlled opposition a secret.
15. They are the same height. When looking at a picture of Kevin Booth and Alex Jones- and of Kevin Booth and Bill Hicks, they are both nearly the same height as Kevin Booth.
16. Bill Hicks last appearance on television was a journalism piece on the Waco Seige. Alex Jones's first appearance on television was a journalism piece on the Waco Seige.
17. Bill Hicks allegedly died at 32 from pancreatic cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, almost all patients are older than 45. About 2/3 are 65 years old. The average age is 70. Bill was less than half the average age.
18. Alex Jones is clearly going “over the top” when being interviewed on mainstream media to make real conspiracy theorists look crazy and unreliable. In a recent court hearing, Alex Jones’ lawyer revealed that he’s “playing a character” and that says to me it’s Bill Hicks playing the character of Alex Jones.
19. People accidentally called Alex Jones, “Bill” on his show a few times. Jerome Corsi, Max Keiser, and Duncan Trusell all slipped up while being interviewed and called Alex, “Bill”.
20. In an interview, Kevin Booth stated that Alex Jones is funnier than Bill Hicks. For a supposed BEST FRIEND of a famous comedian to say that is disrespectful to the legacy of Bill Hicks. If Bill really died of cancer, that never would have happened.
21. Before the Alex Jones is Bill Hicks conspiracy took off, Alex Jones received a plaque honoring Bill Hicks from Kevin Booth. There’s not a shred of evidence proving that Alex and Bill knew each other, so why would Alex Jones be the recipient of a plaque honoring Bill Hicks UNLESS they were doing it as a form of mockery?
22. Alex Jones was on camera looking lean, muscular in 1997 and looked/sounded different than the Alex we know today. Also in 1997, he was pictured looking pudgy and out of shape](https://preview.redd.it/9khxoju091sy.jpg?width=640&auto=webp&s=4553e3029ec58e97a351803f9baba69a226b9ba3).
23. From Kevin Booth, the best friend of Bill Hicks/Alex Jones: "Alex used to sit in front of a star map and I had a hard time putting my finger on exactly what it was that Alex was talking about. I remember the very last time Bill Hicks came to Austin Access (spring of 93) – we were working on a script called "Public Access" about a Rush Limbaugh" type character who angers a viewer and the viewer came to the station and killed the host on the air.

DIVINATION AND FORTUNE TELLING #astrology #tarot #tarotreading #tarotcards
Divination is the practice or the process of inquiring knowledge of the unknown or the future by using supernatural methods as well as other items like Dice and tarot. Dice have a pretty long history as oracles. They were famous in ancient Rome and Greece. Again, they are prominent in medieval Europe. As you try to use dice for the first time, you will realize that there is a big distinction from other types of divination (like tarot). Further, it is normally an excellent idea to try different divination systems always to find out which parts of them we need to bring into our individual practice. Quite frequently, this is simply the latest deck in a way that we readily understand; however, it is still significant to look at completely various physical tools. One of the very interesting for contemporary readers is dice.
The basics of Dice.
Typically, dice oracles fall into two major styles; the “book” and the “hand”. First, the “Book” method includes generating a number and then picking up the analogous passage on a page. The subsequent could be anything from poetic verse to precise instructions and often would not relate right to the numbers that were initially rolled. The listing for the subsequent passage, 327, would have a completely unique meaning (and not related to 3, 2 or 7 at all). Therefore, you would have to carry both your dice and the whole book of answers with you to perform the divination. Surprisingly, this is a compelling tradition with many years of history behind it. Furthermore, there is another method- that opens up additional possibilities.
There are sound differences with using dice rather than cards that are fun as well. Cards come with fixed art that can be deciphered or reveal concealed symbolism, guided by the artist. They just have those particular structures and images (like a decision on number order, trump names and art style). The dots or marks on dice are very simple, by contrast, that they get out of the reader’s way and give room for wider accounts to be brought to the reading- particularly on something as rich as the components, which have a lot of aspects to them. The components exist as absolute magical ideals but as the solid reality we find around as too. In fact, they are even in us, as the power of our bones, the heat in our blood.
Physical dice fast become magical tools that have all of these opportunities, alive with potential. With only one six-sided die inside your pocket, you have a straight line to a big part of Western magic. Rather than turning a card to be given with a response, this sounds more as if you generate each component separately yourself using an action from your hand.
On the other hand, dice and cards are of course so comparable. (As a matter of fact, in case each of the aggregate in this oracle was painted onto a card, then the outcome deck of 72 cards would produce precisely the same possibility of each answer as it does at the moment with dice). Certainly, this is a concern we need to always be conscious of when designing a system of divination: you can just have the outcomes that put in. In this regard, none of the outcomes should have less of the possibility than others except that is something for which you have intentionally thought of and planned for. Complex systems can be enjoyable, and you can make use of charts, cards, and lengths of string, colored beads, or a combination of these! As an initial step, the very fulfilling and elegant can be done with only a one die in your pocket without the possibility of losing any of the beauty or depth.
📷Other things that make dice preferable.
Using cards is convenient as well. They are quite smaller compared to a full deck of cards. For this, from a public point of view, they do not resemble the occult object. Furthermore, there are various beautiful alternatives for you. These include metals and colors of your preference, wooden dice in a small box, various sizes, in a pocket or simply in bags. Definitely, the dice you use for divination is your magical devices and needs to be kept and utilized only for magical reasons in the same manners that many individuals do with tarot cards.
From their first form as small animal bones, the dice have been an important component of the whole history of divination. We usually find runes, cards and even sticks available to purchase as oracles. Nevertheless, dice appear to be so ordinary. We notice their sis sides and imagine that they can just give six answers. Rather, they open up such a big area of possible images and information: loving relationships, high-energy battles, landscapes of guaranteed success or warnings of questionable foundations. This just comes from a single die. Readers looking for a unique encounter or change of directions need to consider adding the humble dice in their search.
Divination by scrying.
Scrying, otherwise known as “crystal gazing” is a method by which an individual “gazes” onto a reflective thing. Still, quite a number of people use a scrying mirror or crystal ball. Scrying mirrors are basically concave opaque parts of glass. They are pretty appealing. Nevertheless, you can scry on simply about any reflective exterior, a piece of metal, a bowl of water or a mirror. In some cases, some people can even scry in flames or smoke.
The aim of scrying is to get information. Some people think that this information is presented psychically or clairvoyantly. Others believe the scrying procedure just clears the mind for information from the source or the Universe to flow more smoothly. The information obtained can be used to satisfy an entire host of concerns and questions. Sometimes, the information given is so accurate that the scryer will see visions of actual places, people and events. In some instances, the information given is symbolic just like a dream and has to be interpreted.
From another point of view, open eye scrying requires regular exercise and concentration. Actually, some people find it hard to focus their attention with their eyes open. Luckily, other people are natural scryers. Due to this, they have the ability to focus and images start to appear almost instantaneously. You may never get the hang of it. However, at some point, you may be able to gain images in a carefree state, on your eyelids, with your eyes shut. If you do some research and inquire from others, you may find that they also apply the same method suggesting that that could be another form of scrying. Assuredly, many people will not regard that as a way of scrying because it does not include a “tool” like a mirror outside the person. Besides, you may realize that that is a very effective technique to practice scrying with your eyes closed. In fact, it could be one way that will help you relax and receive essential images. While that may work for some people, others may find it quite irrelevant too. Seemingly, everyone has their best ways of scrying in the bid to get the ultimate goal.
📷Rune reading.
Runes (Witch’s Runes) are simplistic pictograms that pair concepts with symbols that are very acceptable in this contemporary world. In my late teen years, I came across the Witch’s Runes and they really made an impact on me. First, they were few in numbers, easy for me to differentiate from one another and clear to learn. In some ways, these were a groundbreaking entry to the concept of complex symbolism in my case. Because the witch’s Runes are not an old script, they have no particular sound or pronunciation; the headings of the runes are in normal English.
There is a lot less to get here, yet they more often than not be applied conversely with the Elder Futhark in this process of divination. In case you feel content with the Elder Futhark, start learning the Witch’s Runes besides them and realize how the two compare and contrast in your personal practice. If you are still working with the Elder Futhark, you can continue, or you can go back and master the Witch’s Runes first in case both time and memorization are obstacles for you.

  • Rune number– the Witch’s Rune is manifested in particular order, just like other rune rows, although they are not a script.
  • Rune name– the Witch’s Rune name is given in English and is directly mirrored by the image.
  • Think– Pictograms are not definite representations of their concepts, remarkably since there are elusive nuances for each rune. There is some imagery correlated to each rune that may assist you to link them with their meanings. You may be having other imagery that best for you and you can go with it as you wish.
There are only some of the obvious meanings for the runes that work for most people. For your own good, you may add them with time or alter those that do not seem suitable.
Most people prefer touse Tarot Reading as a method of fortune telling:
Quickly learn how to use tarot for daily benefits. Ordinarily, people know tarot as a tool for telling the future or answering questions. Nevertheless, tarot can also be employed in other things other than asking questions. It is always recommendable to take short time while pulling cards.

2024.05.21 23:44 PowerCrazedMod 29 [M4F] WI/Midwest - Looking for my person

I'm looking for a partner for a long-term romantic relationship. More than that, I'm looking for someone to be on a team with me as we work together on becoming our best selves. Someone with a common interest (could be any of a variety of things) that we work to become very talented at together.
I work in tech, and hope eventually to get into security research. I've played piano for over 24 years now (time flies), and play a bit of guitar also. I like cooking and baking. I also like spending time outside and working out.
I'm looking for someone to share some part of my world, and enjoy growing together. Alternatively, share some of your interests that maybe you think we could grow in together.
I'm looking for someone kind and gentle. The world is both a wonderful and terrible place, and I'd like to meet someone who is interested in making it better in some small way.
If you love music, that's wonderful. I would love to jam with you, I would love someone to have impromptu sing-alongside in the car and the shower with. If you play piano, we should play a duet.
Let's work out together? I lift weights most days during the week. Maybe we can go mountain biking and skiing together.
Other important things:
I have made a conscious decision not to drink. One of my family members has kidney disease, and may require dialysis within the next few years. I believe I will live my best life by not drinking. It would be very cool (although rare) to meet someone who also has made a conscious decision not to drink, or would at least be open to considering it. I also don't smoke or do drugs.
Center left politically, horrible dog allergies.
US only please. I'd like to be with you in person as soon as possible. Not looking for an online thing.
Let's chat.

2024.05.21 23:41 AdAccording8653 Looking for alternative career/life path advice

Hey! I'm a 28 yr old living in Denver feeling kinda lost. I have around 10 years of food service and 2/3 years shift manager experience and currently working part time as well at a cool and relaxed smoke shop. I just took a job at Cava with opportunity of potentially going through their GMIT training if things work out.
Now obviously this isn't exactly my dream lmao but settling for a decent fast casual management position doesn't sound horrible. My real passion lies in art music and video games (like 80% of the world lol) and I dream of a position with a good work/life balance that pays a livable wage. I have a decent and professional 3D animation reel for video games and an education from Animschool as well as a BFA in Game and 3D Art, but unfortunately the industry has totally tanked and I'm just not standing out.
My question is what sort of alternative paths are there to take? A realistic one that doesn't require more than a couple months of schooling but also one where I'm not busting my balls in a kitchen for 50 hrs a week. Since it's so chill, I've given some serious thought to going full time at the smoke shop and devoting all my free time at home and work to drawing, animation, and game development if they ever have more hours. I'm very fidgety and easily bored and don't think I could survive a traditional office job. I'm into fitness so I've thought about getting a personal trainers license.
I just think (for now) the animation dream is sort of a dead end and I don't think I'll be able to transfer my skills to anything more viable like graphic design or motion graphics without devoting a year to creating a whole new portfolio of work. I like working hard in restaurants and management is cool but I need a new 5 year plan that involves financial stability and enough time outside of work to enjoy it. Any advice?? Thanks! ❤️

2024.05.21 23:30 M0nt3C4rL05 How I think a Superman horror movie could work (DC Elseworlds fan pitch)

As much as the title seems VERY peculiar (Superman? Horror? Gtfo), I had this idea in my head about it. It might be bad because it's a horror movie take on a character that is far from horrifying, but fuck it.
Just for the heck of it, this story is set in canon to Matt Reeves's Batman universe. But here goes:
The events of this movie happen a few months after the events of "The Batman". Bruce Wayne has held a fundraiser to help rebuild the destroyed dam and reinforce it. He decided to earn Gotham's trust and try to control the narrative behind what Riddler said about Martha Wayne. This, however, isn't as big a news as the fact that Bruce decided to show himself to the world. Perry White from "The Daily Planet" sends his top reporter, Lois Lane, who is slightly jaded in personality, but she puts the story above all else, willing to do anything for a story, even bending the law. Perry does, however, send an intern reporter, Clark Kent, with her, so she could "show him the ropes". Cut to the fundraiser. Lois and Clark hang around at the fundraiser, socialising, getting quotes and stories, etc. That's when Lois eventually crosses paths with the man himself: Bruce Wayne. Lois gets not just an eerie vibe from him, the cologne reminds her of fear. She feels her heart rate rising, her pupils start dilating, she starts sweating when around Bruce, but she pushes that fear away and decides to continue on. They chat each other up and hit it off. Eventually, Bruce offers her to join him in a nightcap and charms her enough with the promise of a much more in-depth interview, just the two of them. Lois accepts and Clark is sent home. During this interview, one thing leads to another, and Lois ends up having sex with Bruce and spending the night with him.
Lois is woken up by Alfred and served breakfast, being informed Bruce has left for Wayne Enterprises. Lois decides to leave and reaches the Daily Planet, where after turning the report in to Perry, heads to the roof for a quick smoke. That's where she sees a man waiting for her, floating in the air. He has blue eyes, he looks straightened and confident, and has straightened hair, with a widow's peak. He's also wearing a blue suit with a weird S on his symbol and a cape. He's floating in the air, petting a stray cat, while giving a warm smile to Lois. Lois is genuinely confused and, weirdly, intimidated by the aura he gives out. Almost like he has the power of a god. She thinks, "Is there yet another freak on this planet? First the monster from Gotham, and now...whoever, no. Whatever, this is?". She has to get a story out of him. She shakes her head out of disbelief, but just like that...he's gone. As if he was never there.
Over the next few days, Lois goes around town, thinking about that man and, at every turn, he's there. Sometimes looking at her from the sky. Sometimes floating, helping a few schoolchildren pass the street. Despite the good she sees him doing, she suspects the man of having an agenda. She starts coining the name: Superman. She tries to ask Perry to give her permission to write a piece on this "Superman", but Perry doesn't let her, claiming no one even knows who this Superman is, and it might all be a hoax. Clark is concerned for Lois and her obsession with this "Superman" and tries to help Lois with her story. Lois starts to suspect Clark of being this "Superman" character she sees throughout Metropolis due to the sheer facial resemblance, even having mental breakdowns over Clark being Superman or not, constantly feeling afraid whether he'll show up or not. Eventually, at night, she sees Superman outside her house and for the first time, he speaks. Using a calm, softer, near deep and melodic voice to talk to Lois Lane. She asks "What do I call you?" to which he replies, "I'm just someone who wants to help around. But I like the name you gave me. Superman. I like it!" She feels nervous, but braves that feeling by getting closer and standing on her tiptoes, kissing Superman.
Throughout the movie, we see more of Lois and Clark trying to figure out the Superman mystery together, getting close enough, but Lois starts to feel even more frustrated, and through seeing Clark, she keeps on thinking he's Superman and even goes through mental episodes. The final scene is Lois standing at the edge of the roof of the Daily Planet, with Clark tearfully pleading her not to jump, but Lois, now fully convinced Clark is Superman, tearfully says "Clark, I know your secret. There's no need to deny it. I know you'll jump and save me. It's okay". She kisses him hard then backs up, closes her eyes, and jumps. Clark tries to reach for her hand, but is a split second too late.
Lois feels herself falling, only for her to gradually slow down. She opens her eyes, only to see Superman again, carrying her in his arms. She kisses him again, and tearfully says "You came." Superman just keeps on smiling, although slightly eerily. "There was no need to be scared of me, Lois. There never was." Lois reaches up to cup his cheek in her hand, but her hand fazes through. She tries again, and again, and again, before realising. "...I'm sorry, Clark." she mutters.
We cut to police sirens, and a silhouette walking over to the body: Batman. He was specially called through the police department via the GCPD, as officers were afraid just going to the body. He slowly walks over: Lois Lane died upon impact when she jumped off the building. Perry was right. "Superman" was a hoax. She hallucinated Superman the whole time. Why? the "cologne" Bruce wore? An unadulterated, raw sample of a gas. "Bruce Wayne" was also just another man posing to be rich, except... he looked very similar to Bruce. Batman checks the body, takes a sample of it, and deduces that she was drugged the night of the fundraiser he held. He simply says to Alfred (listening in via an upgraded cowl) "Whoever did this doesn't want any materialistic things. Given she was drugged in Gotham and did this to herself in another place entirely, our mutual friend wants to undo my work before it even starts." This sets up the sequel for "The Batman Part II"
What do you guys think of this pitch?

2024.05.21 23:17 Beneficial_Stay4558 31 [M] NJ/NY/PA Northeast USA - Looking for a real connection that grows into something great.

I'm 31 years old, live in NJ. 5'9", 165 lbs (fit/athletic build) 3rd generation Chinese American (my family immigrated here in the 1900s). My family identifies as American as we tend to eat more pasta than rice and my generation has not learned the language. College educated with a Bachelor's in Biomedical Science (switched from an Engineering major...turns out I don't like theoretical math); currently working in the pharmaceutical industry and pretty much love the industry as there isn't any work drama and it's relatively straightforward yet challenging.
I've tried a few long distance relationships and they're quite difficult to manage...they were great when we able to meet in person and I didn't mind putting in the extra work. I'd be willing to try one if the distance is reasonable and the there is a definite spark between us. I am pretty sure I fit the definition of a demisexual, so I'll be strictly trying to form a connection first. I REALLY need the emotional connection before there is a sexual attraction, mentally I can't do hook ups (they're just really hard for me to handle and I have turned people down).
Personality wise I've been told that I tend to bring people together and keep things fun. I have a few different groups of friends and communities I am often with...and they can vary from the youngsters (21 to 30) to the old guys (60+) to the group that's around my age. I would say I'm pretty good at conversing and I try to stay on top of most current events. Mentally I'm an old man and feel more comfortable in that setting, so much that I literally hang out with 60+ years olds at the gym after a workout in the hot tub. I call them the hot tub gang and it's always a set of regulars where we might talk about the same thing every single day until someone newer to the group says that we talked about it yesterday.
I would say fitness is a major player in my life. I started out hating swimming as a kid, but here I am almost 27 years later...I made it through the lessons at the YMCA, joined a club team, swam in high school, swam in college and now I'm a swim coach and instructor as a hobby/side job in my free time. There's something about being a part of coaching people and watching them grow up and succeed that makes me smile.
My free time in the cold months usually consists of planning DIY projects or working on them. I tend to work on all the cars in the family and am the one that fixes them up or finds replacements for them. Or planning my next road trip to somewhere nicer. Whereas in the warm months I love going down to the beach to go for a swim and have a nice relaxing breakfast outdoors. I do have a few kayaks that I'll bring out to go with friends or if I feel it's safe a nice solo paddle to clear my mind. When I think about it, too many of my hobbies involve water. But I do enjoy things on dry land I promise!
I'm really looking for someone I can grow together with, a long term or forever relationship. I want a relationship where both of us put 100% in all the time and if we don't, we can talk to each other about our concerns and work it out. Honestly what I've realized is that maybe I am altruistic...I miss making someone feel happy and loved, miss the good morning texts, the waiting around all day just to see their texts, I miss spoiling someone and the feeling of that feeling of seeing that look that you get when someone truly loves you. I would love to slowly get to know you by having some conversations where the time just flies, then to a point where we talk nonstop, maybe some in person dates and then maybe eventually settle down together and enjoy life together.
Important stuff: Although I enjoy interacting with kids and it's a major part of my life...I don't want any of my own so...sorry if this is a dealbreaker for anyone. I don't drink (except for maybe wine at special occasions....I get really bad Asian Flush so I'll turn bright red if I smell alcohol essentially lol), not into smoking/drugs (Bad asthma and I'm just not into any of that stuff). I don't judge anyone that's into drinking or recreational drugs, it's just not for me personally. Religion wise, I'm Agnostic. Politically I lean relatively to the left.
I'm really searching for that genuine connection; voice calls are definitely a plus and would love to get to know you. It's alright if we end up just as friends that talk here and there.
If it sounds like you could be the one send me a chat or DM and tell me a bit about yourself. My name is Kevin and I'd love to know about you.

2024.05.21 22:21 Old_Comedian_4540 I just turned 20 and i’ve never even been close to a relationship

i’ve never even had any proper romantic experience or a proper talking stage. every experience i’ve had with the opposite sex have been completely unserious. on the dates I find that they either just want sex or just want to date around because they’re bored and aren’t looking for anything serious. I have always been a huge hopeless romantic and always fantasised and dreamed about having a relationship. I have had a few crushes in my teen years but they were never reciprocated. because of the lack of reciprocated attraction from anyone, it led to my crushes being quite intense. I’m the only one out of all my friends who has never had a relationship and it makes me feel so down about myself.
i’ve always had an extremely low self esteem, but my friends and family always tell me that I’m pretty. I do get approached in public like at clubs with my friends and on the street, but it never turns into anything. to be fair, I went to an all girls school from 11 - 16, and then when I was 16-18 I went to a mixed school but was going through a depressive episode and kept to myself a lot. I literally would go to school, talk to my one friend and leave and stay at home in my room for the rest of the day for 2 years straight. I was a little overweight back then, but i’ve lost a lot of it now and I’m still trying to lose more.
when I started uni, I felt sad about never having even had a talking stage, let alone a relationship and tried to put myself out there, but just ended up in regretful and dangerous sexual situations. since then, I just stay in my room and smoke all day. I barely leave the house. I know that my lack of experience is partially due to my own circumstances like school and not leaving my house, but I can’t help but feel like there’s just something undesirable and unloveable about me that is the cause of this, especially due to my low self esteem. I used to fantasise about having a husband and house together, but I feel so hopeless about my situation that i’ve started planning an alternate future lifestyle where I will just live alone with pets and focus on my career. I would of course rather have a relationship and family, but there’s a chance that it won’t happen which makes me feel so sad.

2024.05.21 21:51 corradoooooo experience w drug testing in industry (how much do ppl care about THC these days?)

tl;dr : how much do middle-of-the-road biotech companies care about/test for THC these days (specifically in Massachusetts or other legal states)?
basically the title, i’m a recent grad (b.s. in biochem & molec bio with a minor in microbiology) currently applying and interviewing for industry roles in Massachusetts to kickstart my career in biotech. the problem, i smoke weed; i have a med card and use it for anxiety/insomnia. it seems like, for the most part, the big guys like pfizer and such are strict and dont tolerate any substances, whereas some smaller companies dont even require a drug test. i’ve been mainly applying to companies in the middle and they either say they “reserve the right to test potential employees” but not if they always do, or from other reddit posts it seems like some companies will straight up ignore a positive THC result as long as the rest of the test is clean.
most threads i’ve seen on this topic are from a while ago, and with the recent rescheduling i’m curious if anyone knows what the current landscape is like? alternatively, im curious if it’s a better idea to be transparent abt my marijuana use from the first conversation with a recruitehiring manager, not mention anything until a drug test is mentioned, or simply say nothing + take the test + see if they care after the fact? i obviously dont want to waste anyone’s time, but if i can convince them they want to hire me and the only issue is a positive THC result im hoping i could still be employed (assuming the company does not receive fed funding/gov’t support of some kind). thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 21:22 Arbrand We Joined a Cult as a Joke [Part 1]

I sat in our dark bedroom, the computer screen glaring with a harsh, white light. A banner flashed before my eyes: “Seek wisdom by understanding yourself.”
“Chloe, check this out,” I called over my shoulder to my girlfriend playing The Sims on her laptop.
She glanced up, her brow furrowing in confusion before giving me a bemused look. “What the hell are you looking at?” she asked.
“It’s some cult,” I replied, unable to hide my fascination. “I fell down a rabbit hole and found this local place downtown. It's a derivative of Aleister Crowley and Golden Dawn bullshit.” I pointed to the Google Street View image of a dilapidated storefront in an ethnic shopping center.
She smirked, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “I never pegged you as the religious type.”
“Check this out,” I continued, clicking through the site. “They have some photos.”
We spent some time going through the albums celebrating various solstices. Most were taken in an odd room with black and white checkered floors, adorned with Egyptian pseudo-artifacts, bathed in the glow of red and purple lights that transformed the scene into a surreal dreamscape.
The people certainly had an alternative vibe. Tattoos were plentiful, but other than that they looked like they came from all different walks of life. Many of them looked like they had their fair share of bullying in high school - no shortage of that. But most of them looked relatively normal aside from the occasional piercing.
One photograph in particular caught my eye. A woman, sitting in a bright red room, sat on an altar, holding a staff in her right hand, wearing nothing. A man was kneeled before her, his arms tied behind him, rope anchored to the ceiling. They were sliding a knife down his back, a small trickle of blood dripping to the floor.
“Damn,” Chloe started. “She’s butt-ass naked.”
“You wanna go?” I asked. “They’re having a get together tonight.”
“You know what, fuck it. Why not? It’s not like we’re doing anything.” she replied.
“Good,” I smiled, standing up. “Because I already ordered an Uber.”
She sighed before opening a drawer and pulling out a small pipe. “I’ll go, but i'm not going sober.”
It was a cold, shitty Seattle winter night. We got dropped off in the parking lot and spent a few minutes looking for the storefront. We finally found it next to a dog groomer and Pho restaurant with some pun for the name I can’t seem to remember.
We entered the shop, which consisted of two narrow isles separated by wood shelves barely big enough for me to fit down. We spent some time looking at the various items, my attention diverting to a vial of elk blood. I remember wondering if they were even allowed to sell this without some type of medical certification they definitely did not have while Chloe shuffled through a bowl of mix and match crystals.
“Can I help you?” I heard a woman say from the back as she emerged from a beaded curtain. She was a short, overweight woman wearing what I could only describe as a sports bra and hula skirt.
“Hi, uh,” I stuttered. “I’m George and this is Chloe. We’re here for the… winter solstice celebration?”
“Oh, goodie! Newcomers!” she said with an out of place, overjoyed expression as she clapped her hands. Chloe and I laughed nervously.
“The door is in the back, but you can come through here just this time.” she said with a smile, arm holding the beaded curtain open.
We walked through a dark hallway, somehow more cramped than the shop, into a rather large room. A gaggle of people were huddled in the back, which Chloe and I quietly shuffled into.
A bearded man paraded around the room, white robes and red headdress cascading into a cloak, knuckles adorned with several large rings gripping a spear, held vertically in front of him. Behind him, another bald man, white robes and yellow cloak, followed behind, white sleeves crossed over his chest.
I glanced at Chloe’s bloodshot eyes, THC clearly flowing through her system. I gave her a knowing look, as if to say Having fun yet? She returned a slow smile.
Without warning, the entire crowd clapped their hands together over their heads as a woman in blue robes walked past, waving a censure leaking white smoke. We awkwardly followed to match the group.
The blue curtains on the back wall opened to reveal an older Asian woman sitting perched on the altar I saw in the photos, again, completely naked. And before you ask, no. She wasn’t attractive. It’s never the ones you hope it is. The red robed man kneeled down and softly kissed her knees.
I glanced back at Chloe. Her smile was so big I was afraid she was going to laugh at any moment. I pinched her on the side and whispered into her ear “Do. Not. Fucking. Laugh”. Honestly, I think I just made it worse. Her face turned beet red as she bit her cheeks.
The ritual went on for another half hour or so. They must’ve said “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law” at least a dozen times.
We were getting kind of bored and were ready to leave before the woman in the blue robes wandered in with a caged chicken.
"No fucking way" I thought. Surely enough, the man in the yellow robes held the chicken high in the air, before slitting its throat and draining blood into a large metallic basin. The man winced as the chicken flailed violently, scratching up his arms, before eventually succumbing to blood loss.
One by one, each person there stood between a white and black pillar saying love and intention in Greek before eating a piece of something, taking a sip of blood, and saying “There is no part of me that is not of the Gods.”
Chloe and I hung back, and politely declined when our turn came. Once all was said and done, they busted out some alcohol and started celebrating. We slipped out into the street, bursting out laughing. After we finally collected ourselves, Chloe whipped out her phone and showed me she took dozens of pictures of the ritual.
We laughed our asses off the entire way home. First thing she did was open her laptop and post the pictures on Twitter, tagging the lodge with the caption “me and the boys chilling right now”.
We returned to the usual rhythm of our lives. I went to work, conducting meetings and answering emails, while Chloe went back to her classes. A few days later, Chloe checked her Twitter and saw that she had gained a few thousand likes. The whole ordeal became a running joke between us.
I would eat fruit snacks and sip on my soda, saying, “There is no part of me that is not of the Gods”. A few weeks later, we had mostly forgotten about it, except for the occasional recounting as a funny story to regale our friends.
One night while Chloe and I were spending our evening the usual way with me on the computer and her on her laptop, I felt her furiously tap my shoulder while staring wide eyed at the window. Confused, I took my headphones off and walked over, pulling back the curtain to reveal 6 people standing in black robes and animal masks watching us from the hillside.
“What do we do, should I call the cops?” Chloe whimpered.
“No, they’re just a bunch of larpers. They’re not going to do shit! Just trying to scare us.” I said angrily as I closed the blinds and hopped back on my computer.
Chloe sat there for a few minutes in a tense pose with her arms folded together. She went to double check the door was locked, before we continued our night as normal.
The next day I got a text from Chloe frantically telling me to come home immediately. When I arrived, there was a squad car parked outside our building. I ran up the stairs to see two officers standing by Chloe in the doorway. I nearly shouted asking what was going on. They lead me inside to show me a massive black symbol drawn on our wall, a six-pointed star made from one continuous line.
We finished our police report and they told us they’d get back to us if they find anything. I’ve been robbed often enough to know that means they’re going to forget about this before they’ve even gotten back into their squad car.
Furious, I stormed over to the shop and banged on the window. The hula skirt woman came over and cracked the door open just enough for me to see one of her eyes.
“What the fuck do you think your little posse is doing!?” I screamed at her. “Breaking into my apartment like that!? You all are fucking psychos!”
“I haven’t any idea what you’re talking about”, she said with a sly grin.
“Oh, yeah?” I said pointing a finger in her face. “If anyone tries any shit like that again I’m going to burn your goddamn shop to the ground, do you hear me?”
She looked at the ground, clearly nervous. I have never blown up at a stranger like this but I could tell my threats were working.
After a moment of silence I stormed off again, back towards home.
“You meddle with forces you do not understand!” she called out from the shop.
I picked up a glass bottle from the sidewalk and chucked it, smashing against her shop window, forcing her to close the door and disappear into the shadows. I’m not particularly proud of how I behaved in this moment, but unless you’ve had someone break into your home and draw shit on the walls, hold on to your judgment.
The next few days passed without so much as a peep from them. Chloe and I began to relax, convincing ourselves that the cult had been scared off. Life seemed to be returning to normal, and the unsettling incident became just another story.

2024.05.21 20:36 Naridar A farfetched theory (Rebirth ending + other game spoilers)

Hello there! I've still not entirely recovered after finishing Rebirth, that ending was just whoa. I believe I've watched/read most of the theories out there regarding the game's finale and Aerith's fate, but none of them managed to explain everything sufficiently. I admit I'm in the "I hope Aerith lives" camp, but I understand the corner the developers wrote themselves into: Aerith fans and the japanese fanbase at large will riot if she dies for good, and purists will riot if one of the games' central themes (coping with loss, grieving) is broken. A textbook case of trying to have your cake and eat it too. Unless they find a way to do both?
Trying to get my mind off FF7, I replayed Zero Escape: Virtue's Last reward (seriously try it if you were more impressed than annoyed by FF7R's multiverse shenanigans, it's the real good stuff), and one of the puzzles caused a bit of a eureka moment to me. A secondary solution to a puzzle in one of the rooms is the sentence "SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING". It obviously hints at a character in the game and not FF7, but with the implications of the two games thus far in the remake continuity (plus AC), one character in Zero Escape bears a striking resemblance to Aerith: Akane Kurashiki (Big spoiler for the first game in ZE: 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors).
Both are capable of jumping between their selves in different timelines and have awareness of it. Akane is trying to prevent her own death by gathering information she needs to escape death via incineration, from other timelines and in the future. Would Aerith resign to her own fate even in command of such a power? Pre-chapter 13 it's heavily implied she wouldn't, why would discovering that she's basically omniscient change this?
Unless she has a plan cooking. She's being relentlessly hunted by someone who also has multiversal knowledge and could overpower and kill her any day of the week. She needs to throw Sephiroth off her trail somehow. If you played Persona 5, the situation might be familiar to you... (spoilers for Persona 5 follow)
In that game, the protagonist Joker and his fellow phantom thieves are being cornered by the detective Akechi, who at that point is a traitor amongst them. How do they get out of the situation? By failing an infiltration, Joker getting caught, the tricking Akechi into a cognitive version of the interrogation room he's being held in and letting him kill Joker there. Akechi is in the belief that he killed Joker in the real world.
This got me thinking: what if Aerith pulled a similar trick? Her situation is a bit more complicated, in that she knows Cloud is under Sephiroth's control, so she has to fool the party as well to fool Sephiroth. Her mournfulness in the Ch14 date could come from her impending doom - or the guilty conscience from what she has to put the party and especially Cloud through and that she may doom one of her alternate timeline selves to death.
As for the how, there are multiple possibilities, but the one I find most likely is that she swapped her consciousness with the comatose Aerith from Zack's world. As for when it happened, I believe it was at the moment when everyone was distracted by the smoke and mirrors - the moment Cloud deflected Sephiroth's blade. Whether this happened for real and created a timeline shift, one where Aerith lived and one where she was impaled, or just in Cloud's mind, it doesn't matter. It's the ultimate red herring. Cloud can have a revelation at some point in the 3rd game that she failed to save Aerith, he still won't know that the body Sephiroth stabbed didn't have Beagle!Aerith's soul in it, but Terrier!Aerith's comatose and possibly damaged soul. Such a last-second switch of a would-be-victim isn't the first time Square pulled this. It's what happened in Chrono trigger too! Remember what Marlene said about Terrier!Aerith to Zack? "When Aerith wakes up, she will be killed." Why does she wake up? Because she switched places with Beagle!Aerith!! Terrier!Aerith's body now contains Beagle!Aerith's soul, the one that prayed at the Forgotten Capital, the one that's whole, healthy and undamaged. Marlene was right, although the "multiple versions of Aerith" thing went over her head, understandably.
And if Cloud split the timeline again by deflecting Masamune, and can see both timelines? All the better. Where is the real black materia? Hidden in the void between worlds. Where Cloud's mind is right now. That may be why he finds the black materia in his pocket. That will draw Sephiroth's attention, lure him towards his OG plan of summoning Meteor, a threat Aerith can deal with once the party defeats Sephiroth at the northern crater.
As for who fights beside Cloud in Rebirth's final boss battle? I believe it's omni!Aerith, the one who gave premonitions of the future to her self in Remake, the one who visited Cloud in his dream in Remake chapter 14.
Why do I think this explanation could predict what happens in Part 3? Because this way, the writers can keep their cake until the very last minute, then eat it. The party and the player can go through coping with Aerith's "death", then have her return at the very last minute to appease those who yearn for her survival, at the climax of the game, when Sephiroth is weakened, on his last phase and Meteor needs to be stopped. This way, she can be kept out of the plot for the most part, and her presence, both story- and gameplaywise can be a postgame reward. Not to mention the mindblowing revelation of her complex plot at the end.
Anyway, that's just my theory, I needed to write it out of me. 2027(?) can't come soon enough.

2024.05.21 20:18 ElectroCS8051 Just passed here’s the best advice I can give

I just passed the driving test after failing the first time ; Here are the best pieces of advice I can give you.
The car
You should absolutely try your best to have your own car for the test and there are a couple of reasons for this. The first reason is because you can practice in it as much as you like and get used to all its quirks.
The second reason is that the added pressure and cost of hiring an instructors car creates more headache because you will be stressed about having to hire it and organise it and worry about if you fail having to hire it again.
The last reason is a bit technical but alot of instructors cars are 1-1.2l petrol cars, these are very small engines so they need a lot of torque to get going that means you have more work to do on the clutch and an increased risk of stalling. Most diesel cars will take off or accelerate just by going into gear and can handle clutch mistakes better without chugging.
The tester
Be prepared for your tester to be stern, and unfortunately for some of them to be rude. Their training and quality guidelines published online state they shouldn’t talk to you, offer you advice or assume the role of a “driving instructor”.
A lot of people are put off by this because you expect them to be like your instructor.
The nice ones will be polite , the rude ones will be condescending but they will all be silent and stern for 90% of the test.
A lot of them are stressed, overworked by the RSA and some of them get abuse from students, parents etc...which we don’t see it’s why even if you fail they wait to give you your results.
Your driving instructor
Try to do as many lessons as possible ; there are a couple of red flags to watch out for. If your instructor
• Ghosts you, takes days to reply.
• Doesn’t contact you about upcoming tests.
• Doesn’t offer alternative availabilities.
• Isn’t upfront about your mistakes.
They are likely just trying to do and sign off people’s 12 EDTs and then move on to the next person. Shop around and don’t be afraid to google things your tester says or ask another tester to verify….some testers say weird things that aren’t correct.
Back to point one a lot of instructors make money off car hire to cover their operating costs. Be conscious of this.
Common fail points
• Not moving up into the middle on the green light for a right turn. (Progression)
• Hitting a speed bump hard. (Reaction to hazards)
• Not driving at the speed limit when safe to do so. (Progression)
• Stopping at a roundabout when it’s clear. (Progression)
• Checking your blind spot when the car is in motion. (Reaction to hazards or observation).
• Signaling back in after overtaking (Misleading signals).
• Signalling around a parked car in an estate (Misleading signals, reaction to hazards ).
• Giving way to pedestrians without their feet on the road (Progression).
• Excessive observation at junctions(Makes you look uncomfortable and lacking confidence likely a reaction to hazards or observation grade).
Presentation
Humans are judgmental beings, arriving to your test in dirty clothes, dirty hygiene , smoking or vaping, dirty car , things hanging off your car with a rude demeanour will subconsciously tell the tester you don’t care which makes you look a danger.
Alternatively turning up with your whole family, crying , shaking , rattling and mumbling makes you look dangerous also because you aren’t confident; fear and 60kmhr in a two tonne metal box don’t mix.
You are trying to demonstrate you aren’t a learner anymore.
They can already tell within 10 minutes if you will pass or fail based on your presentation.
Uncommon tips
• Do not tell people you are sitting or resitting a test, you will have to explain a fail and it adds pressure.
• Take the quickest available tests, do not take far out tests you will stir on it and build it up in your mind.
• It is unsafe to drive too safely ; you will fail your test for being too cautious. A lot of instructors don’t explain this but if you are driving too cautiously others will take risks to overtake you or fill your gap and this is one of the number one causes of road accidents.
That’s what progress is.
