2024.05.14 01:03 __kaleidoscope $2500 Budget for my first gaming/streaming PC
1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
I primarily use my PC for:
- MMO & RPG PC Gaming @ 60-120+ FPS (FFXIV, Granblue Relink, Genshin Impact/Honkai Star Rail, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, Baldur's Gate 3...)
- Console Gaming (Capture Card)
- Art/Photo/Video Editing (Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Sony Vegas)
- OBS Livestreaming @ 1080p / 60 FPS
I'll usually have my web browser and a Discord call in the background.
I stream either games or art 5-7 days/week. An average stream is about 4-6 hours, but it can go up to 12 hours per session for several weeks. Otherwise I work on art commissions and editing.
Currently, FFXIV sits comfortably around 144 FPS on low settings, and most games run fine at 60+ FPS on medium. So I'd like to keep it about the same, if not better. I have no interest in running games at high/maximum settings, but if the PC can do that, then cool 👍
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
$2500. I don't mind going over if the price is right, but no more than $3000 please.
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within the next 1-2 weeks.
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: toweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower & OS.
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
- Monitor: (2022) LG 27GN600-B Ultragear 27" IPS LED FHD G-Sync Compatible Monitor with HDR (DisplayPort, HDMI)
- Keyboard: (💀) Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000
- Mouse: (2021) Razer Naga Trinity
- Microphone: (<2020) Blue Microphone Yeti (16 bit, 48kHz). Handed down to me 2 years ago.
- Headphones: (2023) Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro Wired (16 or 24 bit, 48kHz)
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
Not at all.
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
- 1TB Storage, Prefer SSD
- 16GB RAM or better
- Ethernet/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi
- 1-2 HDMI or Display Ports: my main monitor can accommodate both, but I'm okay with only HDMI. I use 2-3 HDMI monitors on a regular basis.
- 5 USB 2.0/3.0 ports: I currently have 9 total externals (Headphones, Mouse, Keyboard, Webcam, Azeron Keypad, Microphone, Hard Drive, Art Tablet, Capture Card). I have a USB extension hub. The latter 3 I swap around regularly, so they're not always plugged in. The others I use daily.
- 1 USB-C port: I use 2, but I need at least 1 for my SD-Card ReadeHDMI Port or tether hotspot.
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-towefull-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No preference, as long as cable management is happy. White would be cool, but whatever is fine. I'll probably put the tower either under my standing desk (>26") or beside it, so no preference on height.
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
Yes. 64-bit
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
If the computer can last at least 6 years without upgrading, that would be solid. Ideally I'd just swap parts, but if the build works, I'll probably gift and/or build another one for my family in the future.
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
I stream on Twitch with OBS, so I'd like to try NVIDIA if possible. But honestly, if it performs well, I'll take it.
12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.
(2021) Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6A: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, AMD Radeon RX 6600M 8GB, 512GB SSD
13. Extra info or particulars:
I'll be giving my current laptop to my dad! I'm mostly happy with it, but I want to upgrade to a PC after using laptops for over a decade lol.
One issue I have currently: Regardless if I stream online or record offline, sometimes the audio is distorted for a few seconds (however, there are no issues with hearing my microphone nor frame dropping). I've never encountered this issue with my older PC (~2015) or when I was using my previous mic (now broken).
I suspect my issues stem from a combination of stream bitrate, too many active USB ports/externals, microphone, or just plain user error. I don't think the issue is related to AMD or sound bitrate necessarily, since the laptop had no issues with streaming in the first few years. But honestly, I don't know, my friends don't know either, and I'm too afraid to change anything more lmao.
I have plans to replace my keyboard, don't worry 🥲 I've gotten many recommendations lmao.
I have no experience with building PCs or comparing parts, so I'd appreciate any advice! One of my friends offered to help build the PC, and I'll be looking up guides too 👍

2024.05.14 01:00 ClipperSmith Want to improve your running technique? Get a jump rope.
Here is an article I recently published on my Substack. If you'd rather read (or listen to an audio version) it outside of Reddit,
you can do so here.
Why jump rope isn’t already touted as a leading running drill tool is completely beyond me. But then again… I'm by no means an "experienced runner"—having started running in 2021 at the age of 34. So, at the time of this writing, about 3 years.
Despite this, I managed to silver-medal my age group in my first race ever.
And it was a 10k. And I was wearing barefoot-shoes.
And I had only been running before that race for about 3 months.
How the heck did I manage to pull this off? The answer eluded me for a while. Then I remembered—
ah, I’ve been jumping rope nearly every day for 2 years.
But how do those connect?
But first, why the heck would some guy start jumping rope at age 32? About 2 years before I started running,
I took up jump rope really just as a fun outdoor hobby.
Even though I was pretty inactive and a bit overweight, that’s not the reason I started skippin’.
One day, I came across some
footage of boxer Lulu Hawton doing some jump rope training.
In addition to her seemingly effortless rope handling skills and rhythmic footwork, what caught my eye was a giant grin that spread across her face about 45 seconds into the video. While she was probably skipping to warm up for a match or a training session, something was abundantly clear.
She was having a blast. And this was from a prize fighter! None of the usual boxer mean-mugging—she looked more like a kid on a carousel.
So, after buying a $10 jump rope on Amazon, I took to the driveway in my swim trunks (yes, I was so inactive,
I didn’t own gym shorts).
And…whoo, did I
suck.
After a few months of making puddles of sweat in my driveway as well as wheezing sounds so loud that I’m surprised the neighbors didn’t whistle EMS, I eventually got pretty decent at it.
And I lost about 45 pounds in 6 months—probably also from making some lifestyle changes merely to make jump rope less of a slog. Not the original plan, but hey,
not too shabby. After about a year, I found myself constructively critiquing other people’s beginner jump rope videos.
But how did that turn into running? Though jumping rope is inherently enjoyable, 30-minute skipping sessions of staring at the wall without something in your headphones can be a bit drab.
One fateful day, about 2 years into being student of the jump rope, I began listening to the book
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall.
Even before I got to the end of the book, running—just like jump rope— sounded fun**.**
Yeah, I know that sounds counterintuitive—
unless you’ve read the book.
“I knew aerobic exercise was a powerful antidepressant, but I hadn’t realized it could be so profoundly mood stabilizing and — I hate to use the word — meditative. If you don’t have answers to your problems after a four-hour run, you ain’t getting them.”
Ok, ok—I’ll bite. I proceeded to dive into all of the normal “Couch to 5k” running programs I could find and took my jump rope to a nearby park with a 1k walking path—sprinkling in running between jump rope sessions.
But something wasn’t adding up.
There was a lot of advice about walk-running to build endurance until one could run a block, two blocks, a mile.
Not to brag, but I wasn’t experiencing most beginner snags.
**“Ah, I know why—**
I did most of my newbie wind-sucking two years ago!” This isn’t to say I wasn’t still periodically sucking wind but after two years of consistent boxer skips and double-unders, getting gassed felt like part of the fun and not a medical emergency.
I also felt much
springier than the average beginning runner—able to run for miles all over the city in the most minimal of footwear.
And so, I tried my hand at my first race—a donut-themed 10k. And silvered in my age group.
(
Ok, there was only two of us…but my time was still respectable. 😂)
Running became an amazingly freeing activity, like getting my driver’s license for my legs.
But I still didn’t understand why running was coming easier to me than the average newcomer. Digging still deeper, I unearthed another exciting revelation—this time from multi-decade sub-3-hour Boston Marathon runner and one of the foremost running experts on the planet, Dr. Mark Cucuzzella.
“Running with a jump rope is also an amazingly simple drill for posture, balance, and rhythm.” In other words—
form.
Overall technique.
Digging a little keeper and experimenting on myself, I discovered just how similar proper running technique and proper jump rope technique were.
Both require:
- An upright, chest-leading, elbows-back, joint-stacked posture
- A soft mid-foot landing directly under your pelvis
- A quick loading and unloading of “leg springs” from your tendons and ligaments to reduce “stickiness” and wasted energy
- A proper supination (roll out) followed by a quick pronation (roll in) of the feet to help launch one’s body
- A steady core without dropping hips from side to side to reduce energy “leakage”
And so many other commonalities. The list unraveled before me on every run.
And like running, without proper technique, jumping rope just doesn’t work—though the consequences are different. For a jump roper, due to the lower impact, the risk of injury is quite minimal.
Most newbie rope slingers will report sore calves, slightly tender Achilles tendons, and the odd shin splint if they go full
Rocky at it. No need to worry, though—most of these injuries see themselves out as the skipper becomes more experienced.
However, for runners, the injury story is more severe. The next time you’re at a park with a good path, take a seat on a bench and watch the runners. See if you can spot folks reaching far out in front of them with straightened legs—smashing heels into the pavement.
This style of running results in everything from screaming knees, plantar fasciitis, lower back pain, to hips issues.
But why do all of these occur to new runners, but rarely to new jump ropers? Most new runners commit a major physiological no-no when they begin their running journey: they treat running like fast, aggressive, airborne
walking.
“Well, what is it supposed to be?” Synchronized jumping. Simply put, proper running is nothing more than a series of coordinated single leg jumps through space with each landing compressing the springs for the next stride.
To compare this synchronized jumping to the aggressive airborne walking of heel-led running, you can test these in just a few seconds.
Step 1: Stand up.
Step 2: Kick off your shoes.
Step 3: Jump up and down three times.
How did you land? Probably on your mid-foot, knee bent slightly, with your weight stacked above your pelvis.
And did you use your compressed “leg springs” to launch you into the following two jumps?
Oddly enough, if you were to add a jump rope to this, you would on your way to spinning side swings like Lulu Hawton.
If you were to take this same technique one foot at a time moving forward, you would be running in a way that increases speed, preserves stamina (springs!), and drastically decreases your likelihood of injury.
Let’s try the same test with a few tweaks. This time, jump, but land on your heels.
Your knees probably remained fairly straight and you felt the impact in your ankles, knees, hips, and possibly even your lower back.
Now, imagine attempting to jump rope this way.
It simply doesn’t work.
Not only would there be no second jump due to the lack of spring but the pain would stop you in your tracks—even in cushioned shoes.
But if jump rope technique and proper running technique are nearly identical, what are aggressive heel landings doing in running? While a jump roper landing on their heels would resemble Frankenstein’s monster in an express lane to an orthopedist, this is how many people perform the aggressive airborne walk—aka, a heel-striking, over-striding run.
But why do we run this way? Well, our shoes let us get away with it. Thick heel cushioning and a bit of forward momentum do a great job of masking the pain of repeated blows against every joint up the chain—
for a while, anyway. Eventually, the chickens come home to roost in the form of stress fractures, meniscus tears, plantar fasciitis, “runner’s knee,” IT-band syndrome, and more.
Not to brag (and maybe to knock on some wood), I have never experienced any of these injuries in my three years of running.
Is this because I’m some kind of running genius with all of the cheat codes? Haha, I wish! It’s simply
sheer luck that I started out with jumping rope before running—an activity that shares the same injury-preventing techniques.
So, are the shoes totally to blame? No. It is possible to run with proper form in shoes with raised, cushioned heels.
But it’s not as easy. When your heel is totally cushioned, you will be able to run with a heel strike in the same way you can hit your head against a brick wall while wearing a football helmet. And in both instances, it will eventually become less about the forces outside of the foam and more about the forces inside the cushion against each other that do the most damage.
“So, how can getting a jump rope help me become a better runner?” Jump rope is a tremendous training tool for runners for the same reason why running barefoot can also be helpful—the feedback is
immediate.
Though running with inefficient and injurious form is possible, the feedback from doing so isn’t so immediate. When it comes to jumping rope, however, you won’t get through too many skips if you don’t learn to utilize the springs in your legs. The rope doesn’t pull punches.
So, get a rope and get started. If you’re new to jump rope, I would recommend acquiring two pieces of equipment.
Firstly, find a jump rope with a little bit, but not too much, weight to it. The weight will help you feel the position of the rope during it’s entire rotation and remain in better sync with your wrist spins
My favorite rope for this purpose is a
7mm PVC model called the Hererope, which costs a whopping $15. If you find this to be too thick or heavy, a cheap 5mm PVC model will work as well.
Secondly, to protect your rope and provide a nice jumping surface, I would recommend a large foam-rubber exercise mat. My favorite is a
massive 78” mat for $32—which is probably the cheapest jump rope mat you will find.
When it comes to footwear, barefoot is ideal. This will help strengthen and mobilize your feet—including your likely overly-supported neglected arches.
And just how does one begin to jump rope? - Keep a tall posture—imagining a string pulling you up from the crown of your head.
- Your chest should open, elbows back, hands about a fist’s width from your pockets.
- Jump from the balls of your feet, only high enough to clear the rope. When landing, let the skin of your heels “kiss” the floor—touching without taking on weight.
- Keep your knees slightly bent, using every landing to load your springs for the next take-off.
- Keep the cadence quick to maximize spring recoil. To help, listen to a song that’s at about 160 beats per minute, such as the song “Hey Ya” by Outkast (or a song of similar tempo) to get a feel for the speed for skipping rope. (For running, many recommend using “Rock Lobster” by the B-52s for cadence tempo reference.)
Start with short seasons hopping with both feet—maybe 30 seconds on, 30 seconds rest. Aim for minimal muscular activation, instead, using the recoil of your tendons and ligaments for suspension and launch as much as possible.
From jumping with both feet, move onto learning an alternating leg bounce—essentially a jog skip. Right, left, right, left—all while keeping an imaginary belt level with the horizon.
By now, you’re essentially running in place with an extremely efficient technique.
Now, apply your jump rope skills to your running! This is going to seem quite bizarre, but it is possible (and even beneficial) to take your jump rope for a run.
- Start skipping rope on a road or path with the alternating leg bounce. Remember to keep your elbows back, shoulders relaxed, head pulled up as if tugged skyward by a string from your crown and your imaginary belt level with the horizon.
- Then, as though leaning forward just enough to give someone a kiss or have an imaginary umbilical cord lightly tugged, begin to jump rope forward.
- Remember to continue to land and load on your mid-foot—aiming to keep your weight under your pelvis just like skipping rope. Landing on your heels will likely snag the rope and keep your foot on the ground too long.
- As you proceed with this, remember how it feels—the quick foot turnover, the posture, the recoil in your leg springs, the core stability, and the lightness of it.
- In the middle of doing this, simply toss the handles behind you and keep running as though it was still there—still pretending to spin the handles.
- At a comfortable stopping point, run back to your rope—now using your hands in a wood-chop motion to counter balance your leg bounces while keeping your pelvis (imaginary belt) level and stable.
And there you have it! You may find it quite helpful to return to this drill once or twice a week. Also if you find your form slipping a bit or becoming slugging mid-run, feel free to skip imaginary rope to try to correct your technique mid-stride. It will restore lightness and springiness to your running.
I still find myself bringing my wrists to my pockets and spinning imaginary jump rope handles if I feel my technique is collapsing a bit or if my running is becoming less springy.
And remember, most importantly—have fun. 👍

2024.05.14 00:11 krusty-krab-pizza1 iPhone Configuration Guide w/ Checklist
A month or so ago I busted my phone, and it was a huge pain in the ass. Aside from some lost data which was minor, the biggest PIA was resetting MFA, getting in touch with my US banks, and any other services that were tied to my phone. The experience also made me take a step back and realize I am pretty lax with security, and if someone had gotten hold of my phone and somehow god-forbid gotten the passcode, then I'd be fucked. They could do so much damage with unlimited access to my email + MFA SMS, even in just a few hours.
As a result, I kind of went down the ADHD rabbit hole hyper-fixating on how best to "optimize" my iPhone and iCloud configuration for two things:
- If it breaks, the transition to a new device will be relatively painless. I won't have to spend several days stressing and trying to find the right international customer support number for a myriad of institutions and services to get into my accounts.
- If it gets stolen and compromised, then there will be enough barriers such that the I'll have enough time to lock down the device and/or my accounts remotely before the thief can get key data or move funds.
So I put together this guide and checklist that I thought I'd share with others. I am a programmer but by no means a security guru, and so if any IT, DevOps, or SecOps folks want to chime-in with suggestions or improvements, please do.
Requirements
- an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone 14 or newer for eSIM compatibility.
- a US-based carrier with eSIM support + a pay-as-you-go model for international travel (I use Verizon)
- iOS 17 or above (may not be strictly necessary, but I know my setup works with iOS 17.4.1)
- a password manager. I personally use 1Password because it works, is reliable, has cross-device support, and is easy and intuitive. It's also only $3/month.
Dual Sim Setup
I have been rocking an iPhone 12 for the past few years, and it's served me very well. I know the newer iPhones (14 and up) no longer offer physical SIM card support, but carriers in most developing countries are behind the curve. Even if they offer eSIM support, it's been my experience that it's a major headache to get setup, there is a lack of customer support in English, and they may even require a local ID to register the eSIM. It's way easier to just head to a shop and pay $5 for a SIM card, load some funds onto it, and then you're good to go.
The eSIM has been very helpful for maintaining a US phone number for which I can receive SMS texts from my banks and other financial services as well as continue to use iMessage with all my US contacts since hardly anybody is on Whatsapp.
Most, if not all, carriers in the US support eSIMs now, and so you should try to find a carrier that offers an international pay-as-you-go plan. Verizon offers two international plans - one is a "Travel Pass" where it's a flat fee of $10/day anywhere outside the US or Canada (even for just one text message). The other is "pay for what you use" which has a rate per text, minute, and mb. For my US plan, I only care about receiving SMS texts from my banks and the occasional phone call to a service that doesn't have an international, toll-free number. Data will always be cheaper outside the US, so I disable cellular data switching for my US line.
The last time I was in the US was for the holidays and I bought 2 used iPhone 12's for about $200 each. They have some scuffs, but they're perfectly serviceable. In LATAM, it also doesn't attract nearly as much unwanted attention in the street as an iPhone 14 or 15.
I brought these with me as extra devices. When my phone busted last month, thankfully I had a backup in iCloud and everything was loaded in a few minutes as normal. This was before I was using the eSIM, but if I had the eSIM I could just go to Verizon support online via chat and they could help me switch the line to the new device easily.
Basic Configurations
- Always use the latest version of firmware
- Require a passcode that's unique to that device.
- Use FaceID instead of passcode when possible (a thief can't snipe your passcode from a distance if you unlock your phone with FaceID)
- Set auto-lock to 30 seconds (lowest possible)
- Erase data upon excessive passcode failures note, this is complemented in a later step with daily backups. The odds of you putting in the wrong passcode 10 times is low, but in the event you do and you wipe the device by accident, you should be able to easily load in a back-up from the previous day)
- Turn off "Ask to Join Networks"
- Forget unused networks so that you don't rejoin automatically (airports, hotels, etc.)
Creating Backups
- Set iCloud backups to run automatically every night. This will allow you to load your entire phone as is (contacts, call history, iMessages, apps, even your wallpaper) onto another device during setup. The iCloud backup usually runs at 2am while I'm sleeping.
- You may need to pay for a higher tier in iCloud if you have too much stored on your phone. It's $3/month for 200gb of iCloud storage, and I find it worth it. Though I know some people with tens of thousands of photos for which 200gb might not be enough.
Password Policy
- For any accounts that may contain sensitive data (payments, PII, etc), always generate a unique password with 1Password. Don't reuse passwords. Same goes for PIN codes.
- For core accounts, create a strong but memorable password and then memorize it. The odds of getting locked out of 1Password are low if you're diligent, but for 2 or 3 core accounts (where you access money, your primary recovery email, your iCloud, 1Password), it's worth it to create strong, unique passwords for each core service and memorize them.
- I try not to reuse passwords in general, but I still sometimes am lazy and use one of my handful of typical passwords if there's no sensitive data collected by the service and it's a service I don't use often.
MFA
Set up MFA with everything. Add multiple options if possible. My preferred MFA options are as follows:
- One-time code that renews every 30 seconds. This is device agnostic and can be stored in 1Password. You could also use Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy or similar, but there's just more overhead to now recover those accounts if your device becomes inaccessible.
- One-time code to recovery email.
- One-time code via SMS to my US phone number. On the pay-as-you-go Verizon plan, I only pay 5 cents per text message received. It's worth it to keep one consistent number.
- List of recovery codes (stored in 1Password as an attached txt file for the given account)
- Use another app for verification (Google does this a lot).
Lockdown your iCloud security
- Enable MFA.
- Create a strong, unique password.
- Remove any old or unused devices from the iCloud account (old phones, ipods, etc).
- Enable "Find My" for all of your devices.
- In Find My, configure all devices to send the last known location.
- In Find My, enable the configuration to remotely wipe a device.
In the event your phone is stolen, the idea is you could run back to any of your devices or even use a friend's device to log into iCloud on the web, go to Find My, and then in a single button click you can lock and wipe the stolen device. If the thief turned off the device or disabled wifi/cellular, then as soon as it comes back online it will be wiped.
Final Clean-Up
- Move any compromising photos to the "hidden" folder (which requires FaceID or passcode to unlock)
- Review the Files app for any documents containing sensitive info. If you need these documents to be accessible on mobile, then move them to 1Password and delete them from the Files app.
- Create a shortcut to trigger the lock screen (and thus require FaceID or passcode) when specific apps are opened (banking, email, photos, etc).
- Not sure if this is best practice, but I just keep everything in 1P and turn off apple keychain and the apple built-in password manager. I also don't save passwords in Chrome or Safari.
Extra tips
These aren't really iPhone tips but general tips. They are probably obvious to you if you aren't as scatterbrained as me, but I figured that I'd drop them here in case they help someone.
- Add thorough security measures to iCloud, primary email, and any banking or financial services. Review each account and make sure you have a strong, unique password as well as a unique PIN, MFA configured, login alerts, recovery codes, and an international, 24-hour toll-free phone number stored somewhere to contact the service in the event of a crisis. For banking services, add withdrawal limits, regional restrictions (if you bounce between the same few countries), and SMS notifications for charges over a certain threshold. Open up a second checking account with a separate debit card for trips to the ATM.
- Consolidate and close any unused bank accounts. I realized that on my phone I had Revolut, Venmo, Paypal, Nequi, plus 4 US banking institutions. I took this time to close my Discover account (which is pretty much useless outside the US anyway), close my Revolut account since I'm hardly ever in the UK/EU, and consolidate investment accounts from different institutions into just a handful that's easier to monitor.

2024.05.13 23:15 oftenfrequently Comparing the HTT strategies for each of the main families
| Fair warning, this is gonna be a long one :) I started working on this for my own purposes because I’m fascinated by the similarities and differences between the HTT styling approaches Kibbe recommends for the different ID families, but then thought it might be helpful to share with the sub. I always see lots of mention of “lines,” but the overall HTT approach for each ID is sometimes (often) oversimplified. Plus all the other very fun elements that make up a HTT are, imo, getting short shrift! There are a few users who have posted amazing full HTTs for their IDs and I'm hoping even more people will be inspired to explore. So what even is this post? Basically, I went through the styling directives in Metamorphosis (Chapter 4) for the main families and directly compared the recommendations for the IDs on a number of smaller, more discrete variables because my brain finds it more digestible that way. I only did the main families because “you’re a [insert family here] first and foremost!!” is a thing regardless of your ID ;) And I thought it was more interesting to compare the elements of the pure families without the influence of any other undercurrents. Also it just would have been a lot of work to do all of them 🙃. A few notes before getting to the good stuff - I tried to mostly focus on the words Kibbe uses to evoke feelings rather than specific items, since the book was written in the 80s and clothing is obviously quite different.
- Some of the things that fall in the middle of a scale have debateable positioning since the middles are sometimes hard to compare (ex. Is a moderate pinstripe more angular or less angular than a soft-edged plaid? My vote was more angular but your vote could be the opposite!) I included all of the language I used to determine placement on the scales so you can make your own call if you want.
- I disincluded some, ahem, charged descriptors in a few IDs but I don’t think it changes the overall picture painted of what that ID would be looking to channel in their HTTs
This post includes all of the scales I compared the families on in 6 main categories - silhouette, fabric, detail, prints, color, and accessories - plus some keywords that came up for each family that give the overall impression of the HTT. I might make a second part later with key similarities and differences between the approaches for each pair of families, but we'll see! I'm also interested in any discussion here or observations that others might have on the various categories :) And of course you can always read Metamorphosis for yourself in full here, which I highly recommend! 1. Silhouette This section is related to the base silhouette of an outfit - the overall shape of garments that make up a HTT and how they relate to one another. For the purposes of this category, I'm defining "ensemble" as the pieces look related or like they were purchased together, which I believe is the sense Kibbe uses it in. https://preview.redd.it/8earo8fbm70d1.jpg?width=1965&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40f17625fbfc45cc723b9cc83d447111428d8b02 Shapes - D - “keep shapes sharp and geometric. Triangles, rectangles, and everything sculpted, sleek, and elongated, with crisp edges.” “square, sharp shoulders”
- R - “keep your shapes rounded with soft edges! Circles, ornate swirls, and intricate flowing shapes” “shoulders should be curved”
- C - “slightly geometric or slightly curved, blend the same shapes together in your look” “slight, crisp shoulder padding”
- N - “geometric shapes with soft or rounded edges are the key. Rounded-edged rectangles. Soft oblongs, rounded-edged squares, irregular shapes, and soft asymmetrics.” “soft-edged shoulder pads are very good”
- G - “small, sharp geometrics” “sharp edges and crisp tailoring” “crisp” “sharp edges and extreme tailoring and construction” “sharp shoulder pads”
Outline quality - D - “Always straight, with elongated draping that is sleek”
- R - “your outline should always be soft and flowing” “lots of gentle draping everywhere” “soft fluidity”
- C - “smooth and symmetrical with the emphasis on controlled and even edges, soft, straight lines, or smoothly curved lines - softly tailored or slightly flowing.”
- N - “a relaxed, straight line is the outline of your look”
- G - “sharp, straight, and staccato” “severe lines with sharp edges” “broken, staccato, animated outline. Utilizing many short vertical lines and many short horizontal lines is also effective.”
Closeness of fit - D - “always tailored and sculpted” “streamlined shape” “tailored and sleek” “the more tailored the better”
- R - “showcase the lush curves of your body” “Sleeves should be tapered at the wrist” “waistline should always be emphasized, with soft gathers, folds, draped sashes, and lightweight and supple belts to give a cinched effect” “[Jackets] should be fitted at the waist”
- C - “very slight draping in constructed garments” “crisp and finished cuffs” “tailored pleats” “narrow and tailored [jackets] with a smooth outline.” “lightweight unconstructed jackets are fine when they are kept sleek and narrow. Blazers, cardigan-style, elongated Chanel (not cropped) are all good choices” “softly tailored”
- N - “softly tailored, always unconstructed” “Your outline should be fairly narrow and slim, in a loose and easy way.” “Dropped waist detail (loose sashes, overbloused tops, ties, etc) is excellent, as are slightly dropped shoulders.” “Relaxed shapes” “relaxed and easy fit” “dresses should be simple and unconstructed, with a narrow shape and a relaxed outline.”
- G - “Precision fitted and crisply tailored” “[a] precisely fitted silhouette is crucial to your look” “Sharp and narrow waist definition.” “very fitted” “[skirts] should be very fitted at the waistband” “Pants should always be very sharply tailored with outlined or animated detail at the edges (waistbands, pleats, crisp cuffs).” “Skin tight stretchy pants are excellent” “Very tailored [blouses] with sharp edges and crisp detail (collars, cuffs, pleats, etc.)”
Length of garments - D - “Long, vertical lines are essential.” “generally [jackets] should be long (ending at the mid-thigh area), although a very sleek, Italian-style might be cropped (be sure this has an extremely sculpted, streamlined shape)” “straight and long [skirts]” “a long hem” “long cardigans or pullovers”
- R - "lengths should be kept gracefully long as uneven hemlines (mid-calf), and short as the tapered styles with an even hemline (mid kneecap)" "[for sweaters] short lengths with waist detail"
- C - “standard length is best [for jackets] (just below break of hip)” “slightly longer jackets are possible when the corresponding skirt is elongated to match.” “moderate length [skirts]”
- N - “Elongated [jackets] (ending from the upper thigh on down.)” “Moderate length [skirts]” “Very short skirts for fun/funky looks.” “Nearly all styles [of pants] are excellent, from very casual to very dressy… short, cropped, or long.” “Any and all lengths [for sweaters]”
- G - “Short, cropped [jackets]” “Straight, sharp, and short [skirts]” “A slightly flared hemline [on skirts] may be slightly longer (top of the calf). Anything extremely long is very tricky, and must have a slit and be pencil slim.” “[For pants] Short lengths, anywhere from cropped at the calf to the top of the ankle.” “Short, cropped cardigans” “Short cropped jackets, vests, and boleros work well with dresses for you”
Cohesion - D - “keep individual pieces blended together in an artful way for elegance”
- R - “include an artful blending of plush textures, draped fabrics, and luxurious colors” “avoid any kind of harsh contrast between top and bottom”
- C - “A clean, unbroken silhouette is your most elegant statement! Think ‘head-to-toe’, and blend everything accordingly.” “Use [separates] carefully and sparingly” “Make sure colors, textures, and prints blend together”
- N - “Separates are extremely exciting on you, and should make up the bulk of your wardrobe” “you’ll do better with an artful mixture of patterns, textures and colors than you will with an overly matched look” “designer sportswear” “definitely mix n’ match in the most sophisticated sense of the word”
- G - “A use of well-coordinated separates with lots of animated and colorful detail can be very exciting to your look.”
Some random observations from me about this category - N fam has a truly impressive amount of versatility in terms of the length of pieces they're recommended, probably because they're the only family that's really strongly encouraged to go whole hog with a mix and match/separates-forward approach (a superpower tbh).
- Although the scale of pieces recommended are obviously quite different, the words he uses to describe the shapes for D and G fams are extremely similar. Definitely two families that benefit from an emphasis on crisp sharpness and angularity.
- I thought it was interesting that he used "softly tailored" in both the C and N fam sections, although the effect they're going for is very different (blended understated elegance vs. relaxed funky easy vibes).
- He never uses the word "wide" in the N fam section. He does, however, use "narrow" and "loosely tailored" a number of times 😈 No oversized shapeless potato sacks here!
2. Fabric This category is pretty self-explanatory I hope! https://preview.redd.it/94e76p19190d1.jpg?width=1976&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=816214030ae525dd16ec2e071426eab1e571c544 Definition - D - “fabrics that hold a defined shape are necessary”
- R - “fabrics that drape easily” “flowing”
- C - “beautiful, luscious fabrics are an important element in your understated look” “very slight draping in constructed garments.”
- N - “loose and easy”
- G - “must always be crisp, able to hold a defined shape, and be tailored easily”
Range of textures (how many different fabrics can they use) - D - “Moderate to heavyweights are best, with a matte finish and a smooth surface” “textures should be tightly woven, and shiny fabrics should be very stiff and ultraglitzy”
- R - “softly woven fabrics” “ultrashiny fabrics” “ultrasoft or plush textures” “sheer fabrics” “any kind of sparkle is excellent”
- C - “Matte finish or slight sheen.” “Luxurious to the touch” “lightweight textures” “smooth knits” “smooth chiffon and elegantly beaded fabrics for evening.”
- N - “All soft textures are excellent” “any fabric with a rough or nubby surface” “any wrinkly fabric works well” “all woven fabrics” “knits are excellent in nearly any weight and thickness, from very finely woven to very heavy and rough” “Plush velours, suede, and soft leather are perfect” “drapable fabrics are best kept to heavier weight jerseys.” “A matte finish is far superior to sheen for daytime” “In the evening, you can go very glitzy with hard-finished sheens”
- G - “a flat surface or light texture is best” “finely woven knits, especially when ribbed and skinny, are good choices.” “matte finish is best, although hard-finished sheens can be very exciting (especially metallics)”
Weight - D - “Moderate to heavyweights are best” “occasionally lightweight fabrics can work if they are extra-structured in the design of the garment”
- R - “lightweight fabrics”
- C - “moderate weights. Lightweights in very constructed or tailored garments.”
- N - "knits are excellent in nearly any weight and thickness, from very finely woven to very heavy and rough." “moderate weights are best, although textures can easily be lighter”
- G - “usually your fabric will be of moderate weight, though lighter weights that hug the body are excellent”
Some random observations from me about this category - Again lots of similarities for G and D fam as far as structure and matte finish, although D also has heavier structured wovens while G has fine knits.
- R fam and N fam get by far the most diverse recommendations as far as fabric and textures go (again a ton of versatility in N fam!). Seems like you really can't go wrong with something sparkly, shiny, glitzy, or plushy if you're in R fam. And for N fam it sounds like you get to mix far more textures into one HTT than everybody else does, which is exciting!
- I thought the emphasis on flowing for R fam was interesting. It makes total sense - I haven't read too deeply into R since I am clearly not one lol - but for some reason I had flowing associated with N in my mind.
- I really love the C recommendations myself - "luscious fabrics" just makes me think about burrowing in a cashmere blanket haha. I could definitely picture Grace Kelly as I was reading them.
3. Prints Also self-explanatory! https://preview.redd.it/nn24my93490d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a8d47c3a4d4d5984b6cac8d9deeccdf7da834c4 Pattern - D - “bold and geometric: stripes, zigzags, asymmetrics, and irregular shapes.” “Think Picasso and strive for a contemporary feeling”
- R - “rich and luscious with the emphasis on an abstract, watercolor blend (think Monet). Swirls of color, flowing together, with soft and rounded edges may be used in abundance.”
- C - “symmetrical, evenly spaced, and regular or realistic patterns. Understated prints (pin dots, pinstripes, checks, blended plaids, herringbone, symmetrical paisleys, etc.)”
- N - “casual styles that are soft-edged geometrics (plaids, stripes, paisleys, etc.) and funky prints in irregular shapes (abstract asymmetrics, leaves, animal prints, etc.).”
- G - “Prints should be sharp, colorful, and animated. Small geometrics and angular asymmetrics are excellent. Most of your prints should be very contemporary in feeling (“Picasso-ish”) although humorous styles that are outlined and caricatured can be quite stunning on you as well.”
Contrast - D - “Bold color combinations and high-contrast blends work best”
- R - “swirls of color, flowing together”
- C - “Make sure colors, textures, and prints blend together” “understated”
- N - “generally have a softly blended edge”
- G - “colorful and animated” “outlined” “contrast”
Scale - D - “bold”
- R - “luxuriously large: oversized florals or feathery shapes are especially lovely”
- C - “understated”
- N - “moderate scale to slightly large”
- G - “small”
Some random observations from me about this category - Again lots of similarities for D and G for the type (sharp geometric) and feeling of prints (contemporary/Picasso) with the main difference being large vs. small scale (don't worry, they're about to diverge hardcore 😂)
- R fam is recommended significantly more abstract and organic prints than everyone else. I also thought it was interesting that both D and R call for larger-scale prints - finally something in common!
- For C fam it seems like the most important thing is that the prints blend in and are understated rather than drawing attention to themselves.
- Preferring high contrast and sharp prints vs slightly more blended and soft ones seems like a notable difference between D/G and N fam.
4. Garment Detail This category is related to the details within the confines of the outline of a garment. So things like necklines, collars, effects like beading and sequins, trim, buttons, etc etc. https://preview.redd.it/342pwi6y390d1.jpg?width=1971&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64115f1045c7a3cb6d9ac1d6d843754ca943a603 Shape - sharp vs soft - D - “angular shapes” “sharp edges” “clean, angular necklines (plunging v’s, skinny turtlenecks, high Mandarins, slashed collars, halters…)” “anything tailored (crisp cuffs, sharp pleats, sharp lapels, etc.)”
- R - “soft” “[Sleeves can be] very soft and flowing” “lapels should be curved, rounded, or shawl-collared” “gathers, tucks, or bouffant shapes” “any draped, gathered, or shirred touches are wonderful accents”
- C - “clean, tailored necklines” “crisp and finished cuffs”
- N - “Any unconstructed or loosely tailored detail works well.” “Simple necklines… are best, and you should concentrate on open necklines for your air of casual chic” “lapels should be tailored, notched, or clean (lapel-less).” “Cuffs should be very plain.”
- G - “Detail should always be… sharp” “very crisp, staccato, broken up, and multicolored” “lots of crisp trim” “lots of outlining (collars, cuffs, waistbands, lapels) with piping of contrasting colors or fabric, braiding, beads, etc.” “Small, crisp pleats.” “Sharp, angular necklines - also small” “Small, crisp ties (ribbon, leather, etc.)” “Small, tailored lapels or crisp lapel-less with piping.” “Small, crisp cuffs.”
Scale - large vs small - D - “bold, sweeping geometrics”
- R - “oversize bows, flouncy ruffles, and delicate lace are always good choices”
- C - “[detail] should never call attention to itself”
- N - “pleats should be soft and deep” “You can use small touches of hand embroidery or rough lace and eyelet for very simple trim.”
- G - “Detail should always be small” “Small, crisp pleats.” “Sharp, angular necklines - also small” “Small, crisp ties (ribbon, leather, etc.)” “Small, tailored lapels or crisp lapel-less with piping.” “Small, crisp cuffs”
Complexity - clean vs intricate - D - “detail should always be clean and minimal”
- R - “intricate, ornate… with an emphasis on framing your face” “Sleeves should be tapered at the wrist with intricate buttons” “any kind of sparkle is excellent (pearls, sequins, beading, etc.)” “belt buckles should always be intricate” “the more intricate or antique looking your buttons are the better” “ornate detail” “ornate necklines”
- C - “clean, simple, and minimal - just enough to add an elegantly understated touch.” “never call attention to itself” “clean lines” “minimal detail” “minimum of detail”
- N - “detail should be kept minimal. Plain and simple is best for you.” “gathers should be minimal” “simple tailored styles with minimal detail” “Simple shapes with easy fits” “Minimal detail”
- G - “an overabundance of detail” “You can never wear too much detail! An abundance of it and everywhere in your look is one of the most effective tools you have for capturing your animated effervescence!” “Detail should always… call attention to itself (not blend into the lines of your garments)” “lots of animated and colorful detail” “Collar, cuff, lapel, and waistband detail (outlining, trim, piping, ribbing) are essential”
Some random observations from me about this category - A very stark divide here between the families that lean minimal/clean (C, N, D) and the families that lean complex (R, G)!
- Even though R and G both call for a lot of detail, G fam seems to like it literally everywhere (but especially at the edges) while R focuses on framing the face. Another difference between them is that G detail is high contrast, sharp, and colorful while R fam's detail tends to the ornate, flowing, intricate, and sparkly - very different shapes I think.
- Finally a category where N fam is not running away with the versatility haha - it seems like a more minimal and clean approach to detail really helps them shine.
5. Color Y'all know what colors are :) https://preview.redd.it/5he7hmfk790d1.jpg?width=1949&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc59971dc9518bfbd276300feccba5838f4d7971 Number - D - “Always think ‘head-to-toe’ with your color schemes” “All monochromatic schemes are excellent”
- R - “include an artful blending of… luxurious colors”
- C - “Make sure colors, textures, and prints blend together” “monochromatic schemes are excellent, although you do not need to be limited to just one or two colors.”
- N - “Color is an area in which you should have lots of fun! Strive for zip, verve, and lots of pizzazz with bolds, brights, pastels, vivids, and wild color combinations - anything imaginative.” “Break all the rules when it comes to color! Mix ‘n match with ease.”
- G - “lots of animated and colorful detail can be very exciting to your look” “Your use of color should be bold and sassy; break all the rules here! Multicolored splashes are perfect. Bright and shockingly colored accessories played against a dark or light background. High, sharp contrast and wild color combinations are all very chic on you. Break your line with color!”
Effect - D - “color combination should be bold but elegant. Combining bright shades with dark shades achieves this with ease.”
- R - “should emphasize a watercolor palette of soft pastels and luscious brights.” “rich, luxuriously blended colors” “pale neutrals… are your best accents”
- C - “accentuate your smoothly blended visual outline. This means that a mixture of colors in an outfit should blend together in intensity so as not to disrupt your clean and smooth silhouette.” “The key is to make sure the tones (intensities) blend, instead of contrasting.”
- N - “Strive for zip, verve, and lots of pizzazz with bolds, brights, pastels, vivids, and wild color combinations - anything imaginative. Neutrals work well when they are used in beautifully textured fabrics… but you will feel a little dull without a few bright accents, either in accessories or jewelry.” “Colors can be very wild and unusual if you wish, or more muted and earthy-looking”
- G - “bold and sassy” “Multicolored splashes” “Bright and shockingly colored accessories played against a dark or light background.” “High, sharp contrast and wild color combinations”
Some random observations from me about this category - It's been said before but D fam's inability to do anything but monochrome has been greatly exaggerated. Outfits can have high contrast colors as long as they still read bold and sleek!
- I found it interesting that both C fam and R fam call for a blended effect.
- Color seems like a key category to focus on for both N fam and G fam - bold color kings/queens 👑
6. Accessories The category for everything else - bags, hats, shoes, jewelry, belts, etc etc. https://preview.redd.it/ek7fu7oz790d1.jpg?width=1923&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c24f3db63656cef4a8da916665ba0f19893cc86 Scale - D - “Belts should be bold and wide” “Metal belts will be sculpted and quite large.” “[Hats should have] wide brims” “[Jewelry should have] an emphasis on bold, modern shapes.” “[For jewelry,] Pieces should be large but not overly bulky.”
- R - “The effect may be lavish, but the workmanship should be intricate and delicate.” “delicate [shoes]” “[For bags,] Delicate shoulder straps. Elegantly slim briefcases.” “Jewelry should always be delicate and lavish, with intricate and ornate touches. Rounded shapes, curves, swirls, and lots of dangles”
- C - “slender pumps” “narrow heels” “moderate size [bags]” “slim and elegant” “keep [belts] elegant, slim, and narrow with small smooth buckles” “small and crisp [hats] with even brims” “Small [jewelry]”
- N - “moderate-sized [bags]” “Jewelry should be kept on the chunky side” “It is possible to get away with very minimal chains, tiny diamond studs, etc., but chances are you won’t be satisfied with this once you experiment with a zippier look!”
- G - “All accessories should be small, crisp, geometric, and colorful” “Small, crisp geometrics [for bags]” “[Belts] may be narrow to moderately wide.” “Small, crisply tailored hats.” “Jewelry should be small and sharp.”
Shape - D - “All accessories should be crisp, sharply tailored, and angular with geometric shapes. Keep everything sleek and contemporary in feeling.” “High, straight heels, crisp soles, and elegantly tapering toes.” “Angular envelopes, clutches, or structured briefcases.” “[For jewelry,] thin sharp pieces are good choices, as are avant-garde works of art.”
- R - “softly sophisticated.” “[Shoes of] Lightweight and supple leather.” “[For bags,] small, rounded shapes. Soft, supple leather or fabric.” [For belts,] soft and supple leather or fabric.” “Soft, curvy [hats]” “Large, fluffy fur hats.”
- C - “elegant scarves in symmetrical ties” “tapered toes” “elegant leather” “softly tailored flats” “crisply tailored [bags]” “supple leather [bags]” “tailored, symmetrical shape[d hats]” “Keep your jewelry elegant, smooth, and symmetrical” “Small, slightly geometric shapes [in jewelry] are good, as are smoothly curved swirls.”
- N - “Unconstructed styles with soft or rounded-edged geometric shapes are most effective.” “high heels should be very angular and straight, not tapered” “unconstructed pouches” “Simple geometrics in supple leather” “softly geometric [belts]” “unconstructed [hats]. Large, loose, and floppy. Shaggy-haired fur.” “Soft or rounded-edged geometrics [for jewelry]”
- G - “All accessories should be small, crisp, geometric, and colorful” “tailored and angular [shoes] in lightweight leather. Unusual shapes in toes and heels are excellent (asymmetrics, wedges, sharp points, etc.) as are bold colors and printed fabric.” “Small, crisp geometrics [for bags]” “Stiff leather [belts] with geometric buckles.” “Jewelry should be small and sharp and in geometric, asymmetrical, or irregular shapes.”
Detail - D - “sleek & elegant”
- R - “ornate” “strappy, slender-heeled [shoes] with tapered or open toes” “[Flats] with ornamentation” “[For bags,] Ornamentation or luxurious detail (beads, gathers, trim).” “[For belts,] All beaded, bejeweled, or sparkly styles are excellent.” “belts are a focal point, and should be selected as carefully as a fine piece of jewelry” “Jewelry should always be delicate and lavish, with intricate and ornate touches. Rounded shapes, curves, swirls, and lots of dangles… sparkly materials are essential… and an antique, baroque, or rococo effect is desirable.”
- C - “simple, clean, and elegant” “Be careful not to overdo! Go elegant instead of extreme.”
- N - “Accessories should be kept minimal; plain and simple is your best look here” “evening sandals should be very bare, not strappy” “belts should be simple” “[For jewelry, think] “wearable art”... or it can be bright and funky costume pieces that add pizzazz! Earthy materials are very elegant and sophisticated on you (copper, silver, amber, turquoise, etc.). Hard-finished enamels and glass are fun, especially when used in bold colors for vivid accents”
- G - “[Accessories] should call attention to themselves as detail” “Contrast is being strived for with your use of accessories, as well as bringing out your wit and a sense of fun.” “[For shoes] bold colors and printed fabric. Flats of all kinds should always be funky and fun (patent leather, trimmed, etc.)” “Brightly colored belts are excellent aids in breaking your line.” “[For jewelry] Brightly colored enamel, stone, or glass are best. Very contemporary avant-garde pieces are excellent on you, as are trendy pieces that accentuate your wit.”
Some random observations from me about this category - In keeping with the general themes, D fam again shines more with much bolder or larger scale accessories than everyone else, although they don't need a ton of detail within them. The overall shape seems to do most of the heavy lifting.
- In contrast, G fam and R fam once again call for a lot of detail within their accessories. They also get the most fun-sounding shoes (to me, a magpie).
- And again N, C, and D have the cleaner strategies for accessories, although N does have a more G-like approach recommended for fun colorful jewelry.
7. In closing, some keywords Picked out from the sections for each main family. I find these helpful to kind of paint a word picture of the overall vibe each family is recommended to go for. - D - sharp, geometric, elongated, sculpted, sleek, streamlined, defined, structured, clean, bold, sweeping, angular, tailored, elegant, long, straight, contemporary, avant-garde, crisp, modern, chiseled, high-contrast
- R - soft, rounded, ornate, intricate, flowing, draping, light, shiny, plush, sheer, delicate, curved, tapered, sparkle, gathers, folds, blended, luxurious, fluid, antique, shirred, flounces, frills, fluffy, swirls, watercolor, rich, abstract, sophisticated, strappy, ornamentation, beaded, bejeweled, lavish, rococo, elaborate, colorful, glitzy
- C - smooth, even, blended, controlled, softly tailored, slightly flowing, clean, elegant, luscious, understated, quality, moderate, simple, minimal, crisp, symmetrical, gathers, slim, beaded, sleek, natural
- N - geometric, soft, rounded edges, irregular, asymmetric, relaxed, straight, softly tailored, unconstructed, narrow, slim, loose, easy, textured, plush, matte, minimal, plain, simple, open, casual, chic, separates, mix and match, pattern, color, sophisticated, easy, elongated, short, zip, verve, pizzazz, bold, bright, pastel, vivid, wild, imaginative, funky, blended, chunky, elegant, tousled, free, fresh-faced, glowing, radiant, healthy
- G - small, sharp, geometric, fitted, crisp, tailored, straight, staccato, severe, animated, broken, short, detail, defined, flat, light, matte, sheen, moderate, call attention, colorful, trim, outlined, piping, ribbing, contrast, pleats, angular, ties, lapels, narrow, well-coordinated separates, tapered, stiff, slim, asymmetrical, bold, sassy, splashes, bright, high contrast, wild, chic, contemporary, humorous, wit, fun, angular, unusual shapes, prints, irregular, avant-garde, sleek, beading, tousled, cropped, fresh-faced, glowing, doe-eyed
Phew! You made it to the end. Hopefully it was helpful, or gave you some ideas of smaller, more approachable categories to explore for HTTs. If not, at least it was a great exercise for my own weird brain processing lol. Feel free to drop any observations/thoughts you might have in the comments, I'm curious what everyone else sees or thinks is notable or interesting! submitted by oftenfrequently to Kibbe [link] [comments] |

- Disclaimer About Rates: Completing someone else's exam, essay, or homework assignment is obviously NOT something you can just freely ask anyone to do, especially on the internet. THE OBLIGATORY "IS THIS A SCAM?" QUESTION: Considering the fact that you found my contact information online, it’s understandable to be skeptical regarding the legitimacy of my services. Therefore, I’m willing to do all of the following to help you feel more secure in trusting me with your academic needs:
- Engage in a Telephone interview: Speak with you on the phone and answer any questions you may have so that you have the opportunity to assess and analyze my tone, articulation, and accent. I’m a New Jersey-born Irish/Italian-American, but I have been told that I speak in an erudite & articulate suburban American accent with a “professor style” voice somewhat resembling the voice of actor: Ben Stein.
- Provide Telephone References: Provide you with the contact information of students who have utilized my services in the past who would be more than willing to vouch for my skills.
MY REBUTTAL TO THE OBLIGATORY “IS THIS A SCAM?” QUESTION: At the risk of sounding arrogant, I consider myself to be at least marginally more intelligent (both academically & socially) than the average person. Therefore, if I ever decided to suddenly risk prison time, risk my reputation, and risk enduring the wrath of modern-day “cancel culture” by scamming people out of their money:
- Not Worth the Money: I certainly wouldn’t do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
- Most Students are Broke: I certainly wouldn’t choose high school & college students as my “target audience” to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes.
- Waste of Time & Energy: Communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine.
- All My Payment Apps are Still Active: If you pay me to provide academic services and I don’t deliver, you can always dispute the payment with the payment app and easily get your money refunded. If I were in the habit of swindling money from people, then all of my payment accounts would have been investigated and be completely shut down by now.
CONCLUSION: - My Mission: Thank you for taking the time to read my Reddit post. I take what I do very seriously and I always strive to get the highest possible grades for all students who entrust me with their coursework.
- Closing Words: Please feel free to reach out to me if you're sincerely interested in having help you with your school work. I am available via text, email, and call almost 24/7/365.

- I certainly wouldn’t do it for such paltry amounts of money. (i.e., anything less than $1,000 per victim.)
- I certainly wouldn’t choose high school & college students as my “target audience” to scam, considering that most people without college degrees have abysmally low annual incomes. Why choose low-income victims when it would be much more profitable to target high-income, high-net-worth individuals earning at least six figures a year? I have knowledge in business consulting, and I promise you that a business owner would be a MUCH more lucrative mark than a low-income college student.
- I wouldn’t choose such a time & energy-draining method of scamming people. Also, communicating back and forth with potential clients is an absurdly long time sink since only less than 10% of all potential clients who reach out to me actually become paying clients of mine. This means that 90% of my time communicating with potential clients ultimately proves to be a colossal waste of my irretrievable time & energy.
- If you pay me to provide academic services and I don’t deliver, you can always dispute the payment with the payment app and easily get your money refunded. If I were in the habit of swindling money from people, then all of my payment accounts would have been investigated and be completely shut down by now. And I would have been permanently banned from opening new accounts. Therefore, the fact that all my payment apps have been fully active for years should be sufficient proof that I haven’t had people consistently disputing payments sent to me.
HOW TO CONTACT ME: - If you are interested in my services and would like to learn more info, please feel free to reach out to me.
- Text messages and email are the fastest and easiest ways to get in touch with me. However, I gladly accept phone calls.
- If I don't respond right away, I am most likely helping a student at the time and not currently available to speak on the phone. But I always make a solid effort to reply to texts, emails, and phone calls within an hour.

| https://preview.redd.it/q2vx41n7w60d1.png?width=1248&format=png&auto=webp&s=47876f5bdb086bdf6f3660577c411f820ae7bd35 Google Ads Campaigns: A Beginner's Guide to Success Google Ads, formerly known as AdWords, is one of the most powerful marketing tools available for driving traffic and sales to a website or app. However, without the proper planning and strategy, campaigns can fail to meet business goals or be a waste of budget. This comprehensive guide will provide new Google Ads users with everything they need to know to set up successful campaigns from the very beginning. Understanding the Basics of Google Ads Before diving into campaign setup and management, it's crucial to have a solid understanding of some key Google Ads concepts and terminology. Let's briefly cover the basics. Search vs. Display Networks Google Ads has two main advertising networks - Search and Display. The Search Network shows your ads to people searching for related terms on Google Search and partner websites. The Display Network serves ads across millions of websites and apps based on people's interests and browsing behaviors. Most new advertisers start with search campaigns. Campaigns, Ad Groups & Ads A Google Ads account contains campaigns that each target a specific goal like increasing website clicks or sales. Within each campaign are ad groups that cluster ads around similar themes or products. Lastly, individual ads are the text, headlines and landing pages that users will see and click. Multiple campaigns can run at once to test different targeting or creative elements. Keywords & Match Types Keywords are the trigger words that determine when your ads will be shown. There are three match types that control keyword targeting - Broad, Phrase and Exact. Broad is the most loose and can show for variations, Phrase looks for the words together, and Exact requires an exact match to the keyword. Testing various match types is important. Quality Score & Bidding Google determines an ad's quality based on multiple factors like ad relevance, landing page experience, and ClickThroughRate (CTR). Ads with high quality scores may show more often for less cost. Bidding controls what you pay each time an ad is clicked or landed on. You can bid manually or let bids be optimized automatically based on campaign goals and performance. Setting Up Your First Google Ads Campaign Now that the essentials are covered, it's time to get started setting up the actual campaigns. Careful planning and goal-setting at this stage will lay the foundation for success. Define Clear Campaign Objectives Before doing anything in the interface, take time to clearly define the goals of this first campaign. Are you looking to generate website traffic, leads, sales, app installs, etc.? Be as specific as possible with what success looks like, such as "500 new subscribers by month end." Clearly defined goals allow for better measurements later on. Choose an Appropriate Campaign Type Google Ads has different campaign types optimized for various goals. Most new advertisers start with a Search campaign to get traffic from keyword searches. However, other options like Shopping (for ecommerce), App Promotion (for mobile apps), or Video Action (for Youtube) campaigns could be more suitable depending on your business. Choose the type aligned with your main objective. Set a Realistic Budget & Schedule It's crucial to allocate an appropriate budget based on your goals and financial means. Many experts recommend starting with $500/month or less initially while testing different strategies. You can always increase spending later once campaigns are optimized. Also determine a schedule, such as keeping campaigns active daily from 9am to 7pm. Budget and schedule form the core parameters of your campaigns. Perform Competitive Research Spend time analyzing your competitors' Google Ads to understand strategies that work well. Carefully examine their keywords, ads, and how highly they rank for various searches related to your business. Take notes on creative elements like headlines, descriptions and landing pages that performed well for them. This insight will help create better performing campaigns faster. Select & Target Keywords With goals and budget defined, it's time to choose the keywords or phrases that will trigger your ads. Start by brainstorming all relevant keywords for your business and products. Then prioritize your list based on volume, competitiveness and match to your offerings. You can import lists of keywords to target at once instead of adding one by one. Test various match types as well. Setting Up Your Structured Campaign Now that planning is complete, it's time to build out the actual campaign structure within Google Ads. Carefully following these steps will ensure it is properly optimized for success from the start. Create the Campaign In Google Ads, click "Campaigns" then "New Campaign" to get started. Give it a descriptive name aligned to your objective and set the campaign type selected during planning, such as Search. Choose your daily budget and schedule based on the parameters set earlier. Make sure to activate the campaign before proceeding. Build Ad Groups Ad groups allow organizing your ads by themes under the main campaign. Follow the 80/20 rule - focus ad groups on products or services generating 80% of revenue or interest. Give each group a self-explanatory name based on focus. Import or add the relevant keyword lists, applying appropriate match types based on volume and competition insights noted during planning. Create Text Ads Now it's time to write compelling ads within each group. Most new advertisers start with 1-2 line text ads as they are simplest. Carefully craft headlines that are short, highlight benefits clearly, and contain targeted keywords. Write descriptions that further explain what you offer and why customers need it now. Be sure to include a strong call-to-action for the desired goal. Develop Landing Pages The landing page experience greatly impacts whether searches convert into leads or sales. Create optimized pages for each ad or ad group with descriptions and features matching exactly what was promoted. Add clear calls-to-action and forms aligned to the set objective. Test various page layouts to see which perform best at capturing details from searchers. Ensure pages load fast on all devices. Analyze & Improve Now is the time to analyze performance data and make any necessary adjustments. Check search term reports to see keywords driving most value. Refine targeting based on what's working versus wasting budget. Tweak ad copy, landing pages or bids based on user behavior signals. Continually A/B test new creative or strategic elements. The optimization process is ongoing as you gain more insights from user interactions. Advanced Strategies for Improved Results With some data and experience under your belt, it's time to expand into more advanced tactics to further improve results. But take these steps gradually after mastering the fundamentals. Optimize Landing Page Experience Landing page UX greatly influences performance and conversion rates. Test page layouts, additional value propositions, mobile optimization and speed. Integrate retargeting pixels for re-engaging visitors. Carefully craft relevant copy and calls-to-action based on user search behaviors. Use analytics to continually improve key metrics like bounce rates and time on site. Leverage Dynamic Keyword Insertion To boost relevance and performance of keywords targeting longer-tail, lower-volume searches, leverage Dynamic Keyword Insertion (DKI) to automatically insert the searched keyword into the ad copy or landing page dynamically. This improves relevance and boosts CTRs for those keywords. Test DKI in split-tests against generic ads. Expand to Target Placements While keyword research should remain the priority, expanding targeting to include specific placements like the Google Display Network can drive additional value when optimized properly. Use placement targeting to promote to audiences most aligned with your business across relevant affiliate sites, blogs and apps based on their interests and behaviors. Analyze placement performance to refine targeting. Try Enhanced Campaign Features Google regularly rolls out new campaign features to help optimize results. Some worth exploring once campaigns are optimized include Smart Bidding to let algorithms automate bids, Maximize Conversions bidding strategy for lead/sales goals, App Campaigns for mobile apps, or Discovery ads format for standalone images/videos. Test carefully to see results for your business needs. Analyze Using Advanced Segments Google provides powerful filters to segment and analyze user behavior data in granular ways. Leverage segments like devices, locations, keywords, audiences and more to evaluate what tactics work best for specific buckets of searchers. For example, split-test ads that perform better on mobile versus desktop or target international vs domestic traffic differently. Continually Test New Creative Elements As campaign data grows over time, continually test new creative strategies in A/B experiments against existing top performers. This includes iterating headline/ad formats like long-vs-short headlines or one- vs two-line ads. Also test new landing page layouts, features, retargeting creatives or ad extensions. Learning never stops - data from testing reveals constant opportunities for optimization. Measuring Success and Ongoing Optimization With a well-structured campaign in place and data gaining, it's time to introduce measurements and optimize continually based on insights. Data-driven refinement is key to long term success on Google Ads. Define Clear Key Performance Metrics Decide on the top 3-5 metrics that define success for your campaign objective like leads, conversions, ROI etc. Closely track these metrics over time using Google Ads reports or your analytics system. Set benchmarks or target monthly increases. Continually optimize towards improving the metrics that matter most. Analyze Performance Regularly Dive deep into campaign, ad group and keyword performance reports at least weekly. Identify top and underperforming elements to scale up winners and refine losers. Evaluate CPC, CTR, CR, ROAS data. Use annotations and filters to make sense of large account data. Analyze over specific time windows like weekends vs weekdays. Continually Test New Variables There are always aspects of your campaigns not yet fully optimized through testing. Try modifying keywords, bids, match types, landing pages, creative formats and more to find incremental gains. Gradually test bolder changes like new targeting strategies or budget allocation over time as confidence grows with data. Continual testing leads to perpetual optimization. Monitor External Factors Your campaigns don't operate in a vacuum - external factors like seasonality, trends, competitors' strategies and more can influence performance heavily. Stay on top of changes like popular search terms or competitors bidding activity that may require nimble counter-strategy adaptations. Build sufficient budget flexibility to respond when needed. I would recommend that You Enroll in Alison's free “Master the Fundamentals for Google Ads” course here to quickly set up profitable Google Ads campaigns using step-by-step guidance. Consult Industry Experts for Reviews Consider periodically bringing in Google Ads experts for fresh unbiased audits and reviews of your account structure and strategies. They can identify inefficient practices or opportunities being missed due to blindspots. Their expertise across countless advertiser accounts ensures your optimization approach remains industry leading. Major changes still require tests but audits highlight test-worthy ideas. Spread Optimization Across Devices As consumer behaviors change, ensure campaigns, creatives, and landing pages are optimized across all devices including mobile, tablets, and desktop. Split-testing is especially important to determine what tactics lead to the highest conversion rates across each device type. Landing page layouts may need customization too. Monitor device performance closely. In summary, learning, testing, refining and ongoing optimization should be the long-term mindset for any successful Google Ads campaign manager. Data-based decision making and consistent refinement will lead to maximum results over time within changing market dynamics. Continuous improvement is key. 2024.05.13 13:13 Ok-Culture8827 silly questions
hey guys, so i’ve been stalking this subreddit for weeks because as of tomorrow i’ll be 1 week post-spinal fusion (yay!). i’ve been diagnosed since i was 8 years old, and im 19F and finally got my severe curve fixed. basically i’ve had plenty of questions running through my brain as i toss and turn all night, EVERY NIGHT due to the post operative pain. but here are just some random/“stupid” questions i’ve had if anybody would be so kind and willing to share their experiences as i transition into living with my spinal fusion.
- did you need to update your driver’s license/passport if you gained height after the surgery? did you ever run into problems with your ID or can i get away with it until they expire? 1A. on that same note of ID, i travel a lot because i go to school out of state. will i go off in airport security? idc if i do (i think it would be rather silly🤭) but out of curiosity.
- what did you do to stop experiencing nausea when taking your medications? and how did you increase your appetite so you CAN take your meds?
- when did you take your first shower post-op and post-hospital?
- for my side sleepers: i haven’t been able to comfortably sleep on my side since i’ve been home and sleeping on my back is a nightmare. how do you handle sleeping and what optimizes your comfort?
- when does the pain get better in general?😭 i’m so over the restless nights and going from my couch to my bed to my couch like 7 times every night 😵💫😵💫 but i’ve been taking laps around my neighborhood and slowly taking longer ones once a day + im always using the stairs in my house. will more movement actually decrease the pain?
- slightly NSFW, but i am a young woman in college and i don’t plan on stopping throwing it back (whether it be on the dance floor at a party w/ my girls or elsewhere🌚) so for anybody who’s had experience with adult activities post-fusion, will i be able to do what i could do before in terms of bending/rotating? (i also have specific questions so if you’d be willing to PM me abt mobility in that regard, i’d rly appreciate it bc it’s been making me anxious😭).
- do you regret getting the surgery? what’s improved since you got it, what’s changed, what’s been surprisingly still the same? feel free to ramble.
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!!!! but id appreciate any and all feedback and i will be reading all of it so thank you if you contribute!! 🤞🏾

2024.05.13 04:07 Jaytiss Elysian Pilgrim
Someone was saying that I should share it here. I'm working on getting a Pilgrim Noire as well soon. I'll be comparing it pretty soon.
“Not a Baby Anniliator”
This is an interesting iem. A lot of people have called this a baby Anniliator, but it’s not it’s different it’s it’s own monster. So there is a hint of disappointment to my ears as I want to say “Hey, this is just like the anniliator!” There is a trend to jump on the bandwagon. I could throw shade and try to call others out in a way, but I want this iem review to start off with some simple statement about what this iem is, and is not. This is a satisfying iem, that is well worth the price, but it isn’t exactly what an Anniliator is.
This is a purchased set. I had to move a few headphones around to be able to afford this set. While purchasing or samples can effect how a reviewer might want to review, I try to remain unbiased when possible.
This is a personal product and I am fully happy with my purchase. I really enjoy this iem. I was able to demo it at Can Jam 2023. I would never recommend buying any iem past say 200 dollars if you haven’t demoed it first. Maybe your limit is higher, but that’s my default recommendation to all. I try to tell the story of purchase or acquisition whenever I buy an iem. I asked Hifigo about this iem and told them that I was interested in reviewing it, I did buy this iem with my own cash and had to move some gear around to afford this.
Let me share what music that I listen to:
Song Choice: Tidal list
here:
I listen to a wide variety of music. I pick the songs because of various reasons. But I picture myself locked away like Andy Dufresne from Shawshank blasting music and shut off from the world. It’s a blissful image.
The Marriage of Figaro -The opera song from Shawshank Redemption, terrible recording but fun and gets me in the mood to listen to music.
O mio Babino caro -This is a modern less operatic version but a song with great female vocals.
Video Rigoletto - “La donna e mobile” Sung by one of the three Tenors, great song for high-performing male vocals. Pavarotti is the greatest classic singer maybe ever. Fight me!
Iron man - The sound at the beginning is hard to make sound great, great drums, and cymbals, and if done right it feels like an old-school band.
I Will Survive (1981 recording, I like her voice, and the old vocals, the drums, and various natural instruments really make this a favorite for me.
There is a light That never goes out - Smiths ( A classic, I just love it. It’s mellow, and I can tell a lot of the tuning if this song is done right.)
Jump (I like how the sound effects are in this!)
Star Child Someone recommended this song to me, and I like how funky it sounds and has nice vocals and a mix of music and things going on.
Dicke Titten Ramstein The beginning is amazing and the bass hits hard. Great song. I love rock and metal. The German language fascinates me
Master of Puppets: Very fast song. Helps me determine if the driver can keep up.
This is a newer version of my 10 favorite songs that also work for audiofile music. This is a copy of a bunch of good audiofile music. Some are on my favorites, but all are great to test headphone tracks. (70+) This is my favorite overall music. 300+ songs (needs to be edited a bit)
Bass (20-60 Sub Bass, 60-250 Hz Mid Bass)
The details of the bass is strong and everything sounds right on it. The bass seems well-controlled and fun. One thing the Pilgrim isn’t is lean, it has a nice tonality that is very suiting and pleasant. I do find the quality of the bass is correct. I feel percussions on it sound great. The iem is clean and lush even in the bass.
The Above is my Targe with the Bass only on the Pilgrim. It’s a nice fit!
Midrange (250 HZ to 800 HZ Low Mids, 600-200 Hz Mids, 2000-5000Hz Upper Mids)
The timber and tone is great on this iem, people have described it as near perfect or class leading and they aren’t joking. It is basically perfect for what I want out of an iem. . It has nothing that will often plague other iems. No weird plastic feeling, voices sound right with no plastic feeling.
I don’t find it shouty but fun, smoothe and enjoyable. The Timbre of this iem is lush and energetic. This comes across slightly energetic and U shaped, but is still a smooth listen and very enjoyable.
Treble (5000- 10000 Trebble/Highs, 10000 ++ HZ Upper Trebble & Air)
The 5-6k region which is still fairly accurate on a 711 coupler is very hot for me. This might be an issue with some people. I personally prefer sets that have this down a lot more. Is this an issue, no in fact in just reviewed a set that had a peak around that level. But for what I am used to the 5-6k region comes across very bright.
The treble is a good part of this set and this iem has great detail and sparkle for me. No issues here. I’m able to game, listen to music, and a podcast all at once with this iem. It has incredible details that come across in the treble. Looking at the frequency response I would think it would sound neutral or boring without the 3k spike, but I enjoyed it. All the music that I listen to sounds great and I feel that it has a wide beautiful soundstage.
Gaming
Gaming is great on this iem, it’s cozy and has a world class feeling of fit to me. Details sparkle for me, but the treble and space aren’t much better than the Hexa, it is fairly similar and on about the same level. It has a beautiful open and clean sound. The stage isn’t too wide, but just right. Detail retrieval during fights is immaculate, and the imaging vertically and horizontally is fantastic. It has great imaging and a good sense of where I am.
Shell -
The shell is pretty, it fits great and I find it an exceptional fit. I’m not a huge fan of metallic shells but this iem feels great in ear. It feels pretty great in ear. I had some minor concerns over the shell of the iem, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Case- The case have an odd feeling and doesn’t feel as good in the hands that it looks. It has a beautiful look, but the inside has a ridge aroud that it doesn’t feel super durable. Almost like a cardboard ridge that could be destroyed very easily. Overall it’s a nice case that feels and looks great. I took it to work to do some testing and it worked great for my use.
Cable- The cable comes in 3.5 or 4.4. I would recommend to chose carefully as it is a pennaconn cable and those are expensive to come by. Overall the cable is very nice and premium feeling. I was concerned about the cable. But it feel durable in hand and thick.
Tip Selection - The tips are Spinfits W1, they are the same used in the anniliator. I found myself using Eletech Baroque tips, as the iem was having a slight issue staying in my ear.
Comparisons:
Vs Anni 2023
Ok, vs the iem of the same brand that, I own and love. The bass is better a tad more rich and organic, the upper treble isn’t as natural, but it’s close, it’s so close. The midbass in the anniliator is much better, and the overall natural tone of the anniliator is better by a lot to my ears. This doesn’t mean the Pilgrim is a bad iem, but to me it just a strong iem that isn’t exactly perfect. Some people might even like The Pilgrim better as the sound is a little bit more organic. I always say to demo anything over say 200 dollars when possible, and take everything with a grain of salt.
It amplifies the slightly odd fun treble of the anniliator up to 10. Some people might be reminded of how bright the annilator sounds, but to my ears the Pilgrim is brighter, almost plastically so. It’s a unique experience. Again, the Pilgrim is a very good iem, I’m using my audiophile microscope here. But using that, the Pilgrim is brighter, the Annilaitor has better vocals, bass, and more balanced treble with a better fit. It by no means takes “Anni’s” place to me in the market. Despite being a very solid and nice product.
Vs Hype 4. (The similar price)
Let’s compare the iem that I’m reviewing vs an iem that is of the same price. I think the mids of hype 4 are slightly better. I like the eargain region of the Hype 4 better. I wouldnt’ call the hype 4 much better, just a different colorization of sound. I think the Hype 4 has a more mainstream tuning for those looking for something similar to JM-1 curve.
The Pilgrim is brighter, but to my ears sounds more technical and right. But it is a close comparison as their graphs are somewhat similar. They trade blows and are both very good iems. At their prices I recommend both, one isn’t better than the other. The Hype 4 would be my recommendation as I like the resin shell a bit more, and I think the sound is a little less colored. The Pilgrim is slightly flavored and fun, and an overall masterful sound for it’s price. Like if I wanted to recommend to someone in the hobby who had only 400 dollars I’d say go Pilgrim easy, but to someone who wanted a one and done set to ride off into the sunset, I’d go Hype 4.
VS MEGA 5 EST
This is the that hype tuning that many are searching for. If you want to experience that hype tuning the Xuan NV might be the better source for you. The Pilgrim is a very good set with slightly recessed Male Vocals and female vocals, but it is still very nice. Obviously, demo both, but if I had to recommend one over the other I’d go with Pilgrim due to its much cheaper price. I really didn’t like the Mega 5 EST, but don’t find it a poor iem, just dull. The Pilgrim isn’t dull and has better bass and better air and technicalities. The Mega 5 est is more neutral and plain and lacks anything of excitement to me. It feels like a iem made in a factory by robots and doesn’t get me exciting. Just way to neutral and bland.
But again, demo everything first.
VS Aful 5
Similiar tonality in someways. It is much better than the P5. But has some similarities and it is an option that gets you pretty close to the tonality of this iem. Personally I think the Aful 5 might be a better value, but the Pilgrim is a great set if you can afford it. If you can’t and only have money for a cheaper set, the Aful Performer 5 is my recommendation at the cheaper price point.
Sound - Final Impressions
While this iem is very good, and almost perfect especially at it’s price it doesn’t fall into the category of “BLIND BUY THIS NAO!!!”, but more of yeah it’s pretty good, enjoyable, but not an Annilator. I welcome the day an iem takes or beats the 2023 Elysian Annilator for me, but this aint it. It’s a super good iem, that I would feel is competitive with it’s peers and either class leading or better. I recently review the hype 4 and loved it. I think the Pilgrim is on par with the Hype 4, and maybe better sonically. I think both of these 400ish dollar iems are better than MANY 1000+ sets that I’ve listened to. But again, all my opinions are based on my ears and your mileage might vary.
Recommended EQ: I use Peace APO to EQ on the PC. This EQ is done to my preference. I recently set up a preference curve on My Squig. So for at least iems, I can use my own graphs now. Please feel free to use the measurements as you want..
Jaytiss.squig.link Overall this is an amazing iem that could easily be a game for most. The goal for me with an iem is to have an that doesn’t need EQ. This iem, does sound better to me with this eq, more neutral and less colored.

Gifting/who is it for: I think this is a nice hifi iem to gift to someone, it is an expensive iem but overall it’s a solid package that sounds fantastic. It’s a handsome shell, good looking cable, but it is a little too white for my take. If price wasn’t a concern I’d probably consider the Noire due to a superior color and $350 dollar included cable. But the packaging of the Pilgrim is very much so on point and very enjoyable.
I do think this is a worth mainstream iem for the masses and gives you a taste of the Elysian sound. It may or may not be the best dollar-for-dollar iem for your tastes, but it is an exceptional product that is exceedingly enjoyable from a packing sound and build quality. I have no doubt these shells will surivie the Zombie Apocalypse.
Pairing: I used a Quidelix 5k for mobile, my dongle Dac iBasso DC04 for my laptop, and my JDS labs Element III MK2 Boosted for my Desktop PC. I also tried the iem briefly on the Apple dongle as well. This iem had no issues being driven. Typically I only find overears to really have a hard time being driven and maybe some planar iems. (I personally am not a huge mmcx or planar fan.)
Summary-
I’ve recently redone my ranking system to include a gaming/comfort quality, an overall rating along with Crinacle style rating. I am also releasing a video on Youtube at the
I have a Youtube review on my small channel if anyone wants to check it out.

- 1) Speak with you on the phone and answer any questions you may have so that you have the opportunity to assess and analyze my tone, articulation, accent, diction, dialect, regionalisms, pitch, vocabulary, word choice, intonations, and inflections.
- NOTE: I’m a New Jersey-born Irish/Italian-American, but I have been told that I speak in an erudite & articulate suburban American accent with a “professor style” voice somewhat resembling the voice of actor: Ben Stein.
- 2) Agree to do some homework questions of yours upfront with the work fully shown in real-time to prove my mastery of the course content.
- 3) Send you screenshots of at least five past scores I attained from completing exams & homework assignments for other students in the same type of class you need help with.
- 4) Send you full screenshots of written exam solutions I wrote up by hand for students in the past in the same course that you need help with so that you can see my neat handwriting.
- 5) Provide you with the contact information of students who have utilized my services in the past who would be more than willing to vouch for my skills.

2024.05.12 21:03 Zestyclose_Floor534 Trip Report (5/4-5/11) - 25F Remote Worker
Overall: An amazing city, food/architecture/vibewise. Chatting with strangers was an absolute highlight… everybody was so friendly!
About me: 25F, traveling alone, working 8-5 (WiFi-intensive) during the week, sober, foodie, on mobile (sorry about formatting!)
Saturday: - St. Louis no. 1 cemetery tour: Booked in advance. Expensive for what you get, but worth doing once. - Checked in to City House Hostel: Overall it was fine… it’s a hostel, you get what you pay for, but there are a number of things I wish I had known prior to booking (chiefly: Unusable WiFi) - Frenchman street: Great music, great night market, wish I could come here every day - Jambalaya at Coop’s Place: It’s divey, and I had to wait in line for about 30 minutes to get in, and the food was amazing
Sunday: - Jazz mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe: absolutely worth doing, even if you aren’t religious - Music Box Village Open Hours: Very very fun, great for kids. Wear bug spray! - Tofu scramble at Bywater Bakery: Yum, would go again for chantilly cake - Beanlandia: Highlight of my trip, an absolute must-do for locals and visitors - Original Praline at Loretta’s: SPECTACULAR. Maybe my new favorite treat? - Faulkner House Books: Made my literary nerd heart very happy - Boiled crawfish from North Broad: hole in the wall/gas station vibes, truly delicious
Monday: - Worked from: - Fourth Wall Cafe: had the best WiFi and coffee I encountered all week… but alas it closes at 3. Sit in the back room (with the stage) for the best WiFi connection.
- Muffuletta from Central Grocery (well, Sidney’s, while Central Grocery is rebuilding): MAN this was good. Took real effort to not eat the whole thing in one go.
- Dinner at Restaurant August: Beautiful restaurant, beautiful food.
- Music at 21st amendment: great ambiance, great music
Tuesday: - Worked from: - The Bean Gallery: had the overall best setup in terms of WiFi strength/coffee quality/hours
- Beignets from Cafe du Monde (City Park): A must-do, but you already knew that. Apparently this is the best location!
- City Park Wanderings: Walked around the sculpture garden, and saw the singing oak! Both are free. If I had more time I’d see the botanical gardens.
Wednesday: - Worked from: - Cherry Espresso Bar: Cute albeit small and crowded, mid WiFi (workable but slow), good coffee - Latter Library: Most beautiful library I’ve ever stepped foot in, by a decent margin. Mid WiFi, but best atmosphere of the trip - Undergrowth Coffee: Gave up on using WiFi at this point, but great vibes and a lovely barista. Iced tea hit the spot.
- Oyster Po’Boy at Domilise’s: again, iconic for a reason. The small size is quite big! And the oysters were great
- Wandering on Magazine Street: Century Girl Vintage, Great American Alligator Museum, St. Charles Streetcar were all highlights
- Jazz at preservation hall: Worth doing once! Given the price, I wouldn’t go again. Bring water, I was really struggling.
Thursday: - Worked from: - Old Road Coffee: Man, the vibe was good and the people were kind, but the WiFi was borderline unusable - Whole Foods in Treme: Whole Foods remains a staple for solid WiFi connections; it is loud in there - Nostalgia NOLA: Ech. Like, it’s a 90s themed cafe with decent WiFi and was almost really cool, but it just kinda smelled… musty.
- Gumbo at Dooky Chase: A must-do! Amazing food, amazing service, a great vibe overall.
- Riverfront: I can’t believe it took me this long to walk down to the river! Truly beautiful, an amazing place to watch the sunset
Friday: - Worked from: - EnVie cafe: Good WiFi, good coffee, good hours, good outlet availability. However it got pretty crowded on Friday morning for brunch, and I ultimately left so that they could turn the table - PJ’s coffee (on Decatur): Great WiFi, great hours. Sit in the leather armchairs for the fastest WiFi speeds.
- Omelet from Ruby Slipper: I was told to try this place and it was lovely! A crowd-pleasing brunch chain.
- Trendafilka concert at Marigny Opera House: Mentioning these guys by name because this was easily the best show I saw in town. Eastern European polyphonic choral music is not something I thought I needed in my life, and yet!
- Soup Tasting at Commander’s Palace: A must do, if possible. Regardless of whatever else you order, please get the three-soup appetizer.
- Dancing at Rabbit Hole: solid vibes here, a fun club atmosphere, lots of locals and few creepy dudes
I can’t wait to come back… the longer I stayed, the more cool stuff I found, and the longer my NOLA “unfinished business list” became.

2024.05.12 11:53 Reclaimer_2324 Sunbelt: LA - Phoenix - Tucson
| tldr: You could spend $9 billion, and get 2-hourly service along the corridor, plus 1-2 commuter trains per hour from LA to Coachella or Phoenix to Tucson. Los Angeles - Coachella - Yuma - Phoenix - Tucson This is a very fast growing corridor, but rail service does not reflect it at all. This post will mainly consider the intercity benefits of the corridor, but keep in mind we will have huge upside for regional/commuter trains (hourly or better trains travelling up to 2 hours end to end). 25,000 vehicles per day cross the state border on I-10, over 2 million people fly every year from Phoenix to LA with another 200k flying from Tucson to LA. The current Amtrak service is the thrice weekly Sunset Limited, which does the run in around 10.5 hours - much slower than even driving and does not even go directly to Phoenix. We can do a lot better than this. Rather than going the full-way to high-speed rail with this post let's consider the up to 125 mph diesel-electric higher speed rail like Brightline in Florida. Why this and not HSR? Great question, there are a couple reasons: the first is the cost; benefit ratio is close enough to a truly high speed rail. The second is compatibility with longer distance trains. A fast-ish train (75 mph avg.) might attract 35% of air mode share and 10% of road mode share, vs a truly high speed train (125 mph avg.) that would cost at least 3x as much that might gain a 75% air mode share and a 25% road mode share - you could do more digging and tell me I am wrong this is just a back of the notebook calculation. If you only have $9-10 billion to spend for this corridor, between CA, AZ and Feds, you might prefer the slower but much cheaper option. If the Sunset Limited were to hypothetically run LA-Mobile daily (the bare minimum), or twice daily (useable for most people), it would need to benefit from upgrades in the LA area for reliability that it might not justify on its own, same thing for speed upgrades, you wouldn't do for a once a day train. But the higher-speeds the Texas Eagle can do from Chicago to St Louis might really help it catch up when delayed. Faster speeds also means less rolling stock is needed to run a given route. As the Sunset is timetabled currently (45.5 hours avg), it can't reliably run the route daily with just 4 train sets since it takes at least 4 hours to turn a train around which would mean more than 4 sets are needed in a 48 hour period, but if we could cut this down by 3 or 4 hours to 42 or 41 hours and improve reliability the 7 hour gap means that 4 sets would reliably run the route. If we went straight to a high-speed option There might be 20 million people in the corridor, 12 million in LA, 4.5 million in both Phoenix and Inland Empire, 1 million in Tucson, 300-600k in the Coachella Valley (depending on the season), 100-200k in Yuma AZ (season dependent). With appropriate track works bringing the service up to 90 or 110 mph for most of the 550 mile corridor, and rebuilding the Wellton branch to 125 mph standards, a fast diesel tilt train might average 73 mph - specifically; 3.75 hours from LA to Yuma, 2 hours from Yuma to Phoenix and 1.75 hours from Phoenix to Tucson. At an average cost to upgrade of $15 million per mile, it would cost $8.25 billion in Track works. Now what demand would we get? To calculate the mode share change we might look to other examples on Amtrak and abroad. At NY to Rochester had an 18% mode share with 7 hour journey time, while Philly to Pittsburgh had a 24% mode share on its 7.5 hour journey in 2019. We could average this out to guess a 20% modeshare on flights from Tucson to LA, providing a respectable 100 pax/day. At 5.5 hours from LA to Phoenix we might get a 35% mode share on air traffic, based on similar services in Sweden and Toronto-Montreal, this would give us around 1900 passengers per day. If we could assume a modest 10% mode switch of car journeys of the 25k cars on I-10 it might be another 3,750 pax/day. Already, nearly 6,000 passengers and we haven't considered Yuma-Phoenix/Tucson demand or LA to Coachella. Therefore we can imagine to fill at least 7 trains each way each day. Now one of these trains is likely to be a daily Sunset Limited. Business passengers are unlikely to switch over to the train unless a few things are provided: 1. Free and reliable wifi to work on the move, 2. comfortable and quiet seats, 3. high-quality food service which would also attract higher paying tourists as well. First class should be outfitted with this, hence a dining car - serving perhaps one full meal and plus a lighter meal or snack at seat. We should care about having a first-class service for first class passengers, not out of elitism but because by attracting people who will pay a lot (perhaps $250+ compared a likely economy fare of $75-100) Prices not much cheaper than flying, but might be a fair bit cheaper when you factor in airport parking, or an Uber to the airport on either end. Therefore we might have an 11-car tilt-train in push-pull configuration with a consist of; Baggage, 5x 80-seat Coaches, 1x 64 seat Accessible Coach, Twin unit Cafe/Kitchen + Dining/First class Lounge, 2x 50 seat Business-class. The tilting would help with faster speeds through curve, allowing for higher speeds on less aggressively realigned track, the push-pull would help with higher acceleration and turnaround time for the trains. Eight train sets might be ordered, each costing perhaps $115 million - accounting for a premium over the Amtrak Airo sets. Throw in a maintenance depot at Tucson and it might come to $1 billion. If you could operate it with costs of $0.14/seat mile, and charge $0.27/mile on average ($0.2/mi for coach and $0.6/mi for business class), it would be profitable with an average load factor of greater than 52% or so, which you could get on this busy route. Please pick at this example, and I hope it inspires you to think of other 300-550 mile corridors that could do with Brightline Florida esqe service (2-hourly or better, faster than driving, more comfortable than flying). Perhaps Chicago - Toledo - Cleveland - Pittsburgh? I'll release another post in the future on the 9 to 10.5 hour, 55-65 mph average sweet spot of twice daily overnight/daylight routes - think Toronto to Chicago or New York, DC to Atlanta - where this is useful, and where you might want to run a longer train... UAC TurboTrain - a fast Tilting Train like this would be useful for the Sunbelt submitted by Reclaimer_2324 to Amtrak [link] [comments] |
2024.05.12 07:01 Dude0069 Thoughts on Sonic Dream team? Also a needlessly long review of it (Spoilers for the story and gameplay)
Yes I'm using the intro animation final shot, it's much better than the actual title screen. Overview Well first off, this game is a solid 8/10 and I will spoil this game, so be warned incase you ignore the other spoiler tags. Anyway, I got to say that this is a solid mobile game and good Sonic game in my opinion (great work by Hardlight, who developed this game with a big budget supplied by Apple (biggest sin is that this game is an apple arcade exclusive and tbh, a majority wouldn't pay a monthly subscription for this game). They made three mobile Sonic games - dash, speed battle, and jump so they are pretty experienced with the Sonic IP. They were given the budget by Apple to make a Sonic game to put on Apple arcade which is how Dream Team was made). I played this game through the apple arcade 1-3 month free trial and if you have the free trial, I recommend using it for this game if you're interested (don't pay the montly subscription, it's not worth it even for this game). I had a blast despite my problems that come with mobile game and Sonic jank. Anyway let's go into the specifics
Gameplay (didn't played tail challenges nor sweet dreams, this is just base game) - speed and physics are pretty important in a Sonic game and I think they mostly nailed it. It feels good and despite the boost meter being heavily nerfed, it's a blast to blitz through the levels as you find & make shortcuts to the end goal while platforming & homing attack enemies. Physics feel mostly good (except in Nightmare Maze, god what a nightmare) and everyone's jumps & abilities feel mostly pretty good. Nightmare Maze sucks because whenever you transition into a different axis, the camera shifts and the physics are completely fucked during that transition with a pretty bad slow down (my least favorite stages to visit other than Dream Factory). Yeah not the biggest fan of flying, climbing, or the gliding but they're servicable (more on that with the characters).
- Characters are all great and despite having only three character types with 6 characters, I'm perfectly fine with that. It means no character is best (you can try them all and just appreciate the charm of animation, which I say is worth it) and can get used to the abilites each subtype has. All three subtypes have the boost but Sonic/Amy have the jump dash and lightspeed dash, Tails/Cream can fly, and Knuckles/Rouge can glide & climb specific walls. Sonic/Amy are great for doing the time trials and getting the S-ranks for most stages, they're my personal favorites because they feel the most reliable despite having no airborne mobility because the jump dash in this game feels great and cuts a lot of corners for speedrunning/platforming. Tails/Cream have fly which isn't that good in my opinion, the snails pace you move & short ascend for how short you fly is not worth it (it's better to spam the jump button to descend and speedrun their specific levels), they're probaby the worst feeling characters in my opinion despite how cool it is to see Cream back in a Sonic game (no matter how minor it is). Rouge and Knuckles are a mixed bag, they're techinally the 2nd best feeling characters but at the same time, they're also pretty bad. Glide is fine but a bit slow and the descend is way too fast for it to be useful 50% of the time. Climb is alright, it's again pretty slow but the jank of jumping off the wall is just really bad (Sonic Frontiers pre-fixed Knuckles type of jank). Ranking them best from worst in terms of game feel, Sonic/Amy > Knuckles/Rouge > Tails/Cream. All characters are function and the levels they accommodate do remedy the jank of the other characters. Might as well add the camera into the mix and yeah it sucks. It's fine until you have to back track, accidently go off screen, or use it for exploration (more on that with controls).
- Level design is solid. There are 4 settings for the 12 main levels/acts, 72 side objectives, and the 4 bosses (not including the intro). Those being Scrambled Shores, Dream Factory, Nightmare Maze, and Ego City. Ranking them in terms of general level design (Ego City ≥ Nightmare Maze > Dream Factory > Scrambled Shores). Personal Ranks (in terms of enjoyment) are (Ego City > Scrambled Shores > Nightmare Maze > Dream Factory). While the level design is rather simple, it's filled to the brim for exploration, pathways, and speedrunning. If you truly want to play this game, go for everything (objectives, s-ranks, and pathways) but if not, it's fine to just progress doing just the main levels. 5 Red rings and 30 blue coins are scattered around the main stages/act 1, red rings give dream orbs (progression for the story and other zones) while blue coins give optional extras (statues akin the Smash Bros collection). This game rewards exploration with more pathways and the collectiables, I encourage to do it because these levels are dense and make the playthrough much more fun (and longer which is a bonus). Each setting has a gimmick to them associated to them (each harder than the last one and some reoccuring gimmicks). Scrambled Shores gives the basic level design with no gimmicks (at least no prominent ones I think). Dream Factory has the ooze, the rising/descending pillars, conveyor belts, and the lasers. Nightmare Maze has water tunnels and gravity traversal gimmick (think Mario Galaxy but worst). Ego City has a bit of everything from each setting along with disappearing platforms and tons of projectiles. All of them are solid and are good fun.
- Objectives are fine, they get the job done. Checkpoint missions are simple speed runs, dream orbs/portals are as simple as getting to the end, dream shards are fun for exploration, and race is pretty self exploratory. However, the real challenge from them (aside from the main acts with their collectables) is getting an S-rank on them. They are pretty tight because of how short each side objective is and I'd argued where I got the most enjoyment and hatred from this game. For one, they are purely optional and also reveal jank of this game because it being made for mobile and general Sonic jank. But at the same time, the thrill of getting an easy S-rank or cutting it close more than makes up for it. These objectives are fine but I recommend getting an S-rank on all of them to get the most time and enjoyable out of the game. Hardest are dream shards as you figure out a path to collect all of 6 of them while everything else is just race related.
- The bosses are fine. Dr. Crabulous, Factory Fourmen, Guardian Hunter, and Nightmare Eggman are all just fine and probably the weakest part of the game in terms of gameplay. They are very simple and very easy to beat. Each relies on a gimmick but they're basically all the same (except Eggman). Let it go through an attack cycle and hit it's exposed weakpoint. Ranking them is whatever but Nightmare Eggman is undoubtly the best simply for being just a stage instead of a boss. You never interact with Nightmare Eggman and he's more of a obstacle to overcome during the same. Since the stages and level design are pretty solid, it makes the ending really good as you use everyone to progress through the level and it's a pretty damn good one. Yeah it's not a boss but a good final stage, so yeah it's probably the best boss out of all three of them. Ranking them is Nightmare Eggman (not a boss, but a stage. However it's' a really good stage, probably the best/most challenging/longest stage in the game) > Factory Fourmen (2 phases and it's fairly fun) > Guardian Hunter (take those boost bosses and make them mini, that's Guardian Hunter. It's fine and his 2nd phase is fine but too basic for a 3rd boss) > Dr. Crabulous (1st boss fight and the most basic. He performs shockwaves and as you damage him, he deflates which means he loses an attack. Pretty funny but not that challenging, but pretty good Sonic cutscene and the final hitpoint is pretty funny too).
- there are 2 types of controls, touch screen and controller. Yeah go for controller, touch screen fucking sucks. The camera in this game is fine if not a bit wonky/slow at timesbut it really sucks trying to go back or off screen on touch screen since you have to manually move the camera so much later after the action. Touch screen is fine but unintuitive compared to controller. Controller is the best way to play this game as it just ports the basic Sonic control scheme onto the controller you're using. It's pretty smooth all things consider aside from a few input delays here and there.
Yeah that's all for gameplay. It's pretty good aside from a few quirks here and there. Some are major and some are just nitpicks, but overall, a solid gameplay experience. Music/Animation(also art direction)/Story (also characterization) (putting them all here since they ain't that important and base game only for now) - Music is good but not my type of good I expect out of Sonic. It's like 50/50. Menu theme is pretty fun and the intro/ending sequence theme fucking slaps. Scrambled shores and Nightmare Maze are really solid, but Dream Factory and Ego City didn't click with me. Ambient themes are relaxing bop and boss themes are pretty good (Nightmare Eggman and Factory Fourmen were standouts).
- Animation is a standout in this game. The intro animation is amazing and so beautiful, I recommend watching it on youtube because it's great. In game cutscenes are great too, very expressive and full of character (yet again go on Youtube and watch it because this is the best 3d Sonic has ever been animated since Unleashed). The characters eyelids aren't the only thing emoting, the hands and eyebrows actually move in an organic and bouncy way (crazy how good these more than a decade models look when they use cartoonish animation). I recommend looking at the Dr. Crabulous intro with Sonic because it looks fantastic and one of the best looking cutscenes in the game. Unfortunately, they only make up barely a portion of the cutscenes and the cutscenes we get with the standstill comic designs are awful. They lack any character and remove any tention/emtion behind the scene. But art style and aesthetics wise? It's yet again fantasic, beauitful and graphically amazing considering I played on a Iphone (idk how it looks on PC or TV, but I bet it would look even better). Every setting is a reinvetion of a previous setting with a dream like twist to them, which makes all of them look so good. Ego city and Nightmare Maze are tiedd for best aesthetics, then Dream Factory, and Scrambled Shores. Gameplay animation is pretty good, good use of squash and stretch along with snappy timing makes the gameplay feel really smooth. Oh the phase transitions for bosses are fantastic, all of them are really good (that's the only time where I feel like all of them are equal in my opinion). Ariem and the bosses are a standout in terms of designs.
- Finally, story and characterization. It's aight and probably the quickest part to get through. Not offensive but simple and effective. Just look up cutscene movie on Youtube, you'll get the gist. Bringing back Cream for this game was a great choice and the development of Ariem was fine (wish there was more honestly, I feel like she could be great in Sonic canon). Eggman controlling dreams to build the Eggman Empire is a pretty cool idea, I just wish I saw more of him (even his brief moments at the start, Ego City, and as Nightmare Eggman were great). I do like how Factory Fourmen was technically a fodder boss for Guardian Hunter to roam free where we'll meet it again and defeat it as Knuckles/Rouge (it's a nice way to transition into the next stage and boss). Final stage where the characters had to fight Nightmare Eggman and keep Ariem safe while progressing to the Reverie had some solid moments and cool final hurrah as Eggman almost beats you until you blast through as Sonic. Characterization is mostly fine (carried by the animation) and the voice acting is fine (generations/lost world/forces/colors type of characterization and voice acting). The way that dream orbs were used to explain why and how we can unlock the characters is pretty cool way to explain why we don't get all the characters right off the bat (that's simple yet effective way to incorporate game design into the story). And I do like that Sonic and crew got their woos, ohs, and yeahs back (brings back a flavor of their personality back in gameplay). Ariem and Knuckles carry this game tbh in terms of characterization and banter.
Holy this was long and unnecessary but I feel like the game sort of deserves it. So what do you think of the game? Do you like, dislike, love, or hate this game (ignoring the apple exclusivity) and do you agree or disagree with my take of the game? Love the critism and praise since it brings good discussion. Have a nice day :) submitted by
