2024.05.15 00:30 Temporary-Driver-772 Devil's Bargain Counter

Reflecting on 2021, truly marked the zenith of my young career. The pandemic was coming to an end, I was fresh from the hallowed halls of a prestigious but unheralded college, thrust into the corporate labyrinth where, as a mere sidekick to the big shots, I contributed to a deal of record-breaking magnitude. My modest corporate minion life was exaggerated into legend by my professors during an alumni reunion, leading to a rather embarrassing episode where I was paraded around as the poster child of their education career’s success. My parents, not ones to shy away from a bit of pomp, lauded my achievements to anyone within earshot.
But as 2022 unfurled its chaos with the epidemic, my professional life spiralled downwards as swiftly as it had risen. I was laid off, and replaced by a nepotistic hire—my boss's new mistress's nephew. During my dismal final days, my colleagues, once comrades became corporate sharks, whispers of them scheming to claim my last efforts as their own filled the empty office spaces.
Compelled by financial duress to abandon my central city dwelling, I relocated to the outskirts with two college mates, Jaz and Kath, who had similarly found themselves victims of the economic downturn. We settled into apartment 606, a unit with dubious charm, suspiciously affordable on the 13th floor of a dreary building, its corridor haunted by a flickering sensor light that was only designed to function on rare occasions. Yet, the apartment itself was surprisingly very well furnished, almost like something that jumped out from a design mag, out beating sample rooms in Ikea, boasting a spacious balcony, a living room ready for an impromptu soirée, a dining table that’s good enough to hold a banquet(became our co-working space) and a kitchen isle that became our sanctuary and curse.
When we first settled into our new abode, we discovered a trove of fine kitchen utensils, perfect for whipping up sophisticated cuisine and crafting cocktails worthy of a swanky soirée. Tucked away in the fridge, among the remnants of the previous tenants' life, was a quaint note: “The three of us really enjoyed our stay here, especially our meals and nights spent by the kitchen island. We hope you find as much joy in it as we did. Use it well.” With a casual flick of my wrist, I dismissed the note into the garbage can, oblivious to the depth of its seemingly innocuous message. Little did I know, that piece of paper was more a passing of the torch than a simple goodbye.
Our initial days in apartment 606 brimmed with camaraderie and impromptu celebrations: movie nights sprawled on the living room sofas, barbeque dinners under the stars on our balcony, and co-working sessions at the dining table, peppered with resume tweaks and contemplative conversations over cocktails. We even scored a second-hand karaoke machine, allowing me to channel my inner diva—a throwback to my musical theatre days in college and my stint as the voice of corporate presentations and negotiations at my previous job, where I was known for my resonant yet finely tuned voice.
Yet, as the months wore on and the job market remained unyielding, our early merriment slowly surrendered to a creeping anxiety. The kitchen island, once the heart of our home where laughter and shared meals flowed freely, gradually morphed into the epicenter of our collective unease, bearing silent witness to the quiet desperation settling over us.
One evening, in the suspiciously affordable yet stylish apartment, I sank into the sofa, my spirits dampened by my favorite team's disheartening loss. The mood was grim, mirroring my fears of my beloved player's potential retirement at season's end. Later, as we congregated around the kitchen island for dinner, I transformed into an impromptu sports commentator, passionately preaching about the game’s disappointing details that led to failure and my favorite player’s fine qualities. Meanwhile, Jaz updated us on a friend's melodramatic breakup, with guesses that something ugly must have happened behind the scenes. Kath, ever the culinary enthusiast, not only served up her delicious pasta but also dished out the latest celebrity gossip, each tidbit as spicy as her sauce.
The next day, during a late breakfast at the same kitchen island—our unwitting oracle—we were hit by a triple whammy of reality checks. The news of my favorite player's retirement broke, echoing my gloomy predictions from the night before. Jaz chimed in with an update that our friend had uncovered a cheating scandal worthy of its own reality TV special. And Kath, never one to be left out of the drama: her favorite celebrity was now the star of a scandal.
By the third morning, as we sipped our coffee, the newspaper slapped me with another bizarre twist. I was going through the devastating economics and politics sections, then I saw the sports section——featured an irate coach, hell-bent on convincing my favorite player to dismiss retirement plans and keep his jersey on a little longer. Meanwhile, Jaz had good news for a change: it turned out our friend's love story might have a second act after all, as misunderstandings were being cleared up. Amidst these revelations, Kath, who had been grumbling about the nearby supermarket’s inability to stock anything remotely gourmet, and hadn’t had a taste of her favorite Blue Mountain coffee since the beginning of that year, triumphantly found a can of Blue Mountain coffee, and it was on sale and therefore affordable—proof that miracles happen, and sometimes they even go on discount.
As I sat there, absorbing the serendipity of our discussions manifesting into real-world events, I couldn't help but marvel at the mysterious knack of our kitchen island. Was it merely a coincidence, or had this stylish piece of decor become the unlikely conductor of our lives symphony? One thing was certain: life in apartment 606 was never dull, and our kitchen island seemed to be more than just a place to eat—it was a place where, apparently, you could stir the pot of fate.
I decided to conduct a whimsical experiment with our now seemingly magical kitchen island. Clearing my throat theatrically, I declared, "I should be interviewed for a director position." To my sheer astonishment, the next day a headhunter rang me up, claiming I was the ideal candidate for a directorial role at a prestigious corporation in my field. Despite the other candidates possessing decades more experience which defeated me with no effort, and my own lingering self-doubt from months of unemployment, I sailed to the final interview round with the company's executives.
Upon returning to our apartment, I found Kath flaunting a chic dress from a designer brand brand she’d snagged on clearance—a little luxury courtesy of our wish-granting island. Inspired, I approached the island and cheekily requested, "Get us jobs. Something fun." Lo and behold, the following day was spent lounging and binge-watching Netflix, only to be interrupted by a call from a former bigwig at my old job. He was venturing into a more illustrious company and wanted me onboard. The informal chat that followed was a breeze, and just like that, I was back in the game with a fancier title and a fatter paycheck.
The subsequent week was a flurry of celebrations. Jaz secured a senior-level position, and Kath landed her dream job at an influencer management agency. Feeling triumphant, we decided to indulge in a night of fine dining—our first in months. That Friday evening when I went from office to restaurant, on a whim, stopped at a convenience store to grab snacks and cigarettes for our post-dinner revelry. Outside, I encountered a homeless person. After offering him a sandwich (which he traded for a cigarette instead), he took a drag, peered into my eyes, and ominously muttered, “Look, young lady, this isn’t my business, but be wary of what you wish for; everything comes with a price. Good luck and god bless you.”
His words barely registered until later that evening when a mishap occurred that seemed to underline his warning. As we enjoyed syphon coffee post-dinner, a barista accidentally tripped over Kath’s flowing dress. The resulting spill left her with first-degree burns, abruptly ending our night as we rushed to the emergency room. Though it was "just" a first-degree burn, the pain was significant enough to require several days off for Kath’s recovery. Amid the drama, I couldn't help but wonder about the cryptic caution from the man outside the store—had our fortunate streak come with a hidden cost?
We chalked up the coffee calamity to bad luck. The next month flowed smoothly: Kath's fingers healed, she returned to work, and I quickly found my groove at the new job. With all of us gainfully employed, our communal meals at the kitchen island became rare. My mornings were a whirlwind of grabbing breakfast and coffee on the go, followed by an hour's commute to a job that had me scarfing down instant noodles by nightfall, just in time for a quick shower.
As the busy season kicked in, my workload ballooned—not just from the seasonal uptick, but because I was hell-bent on proving my mettle. I quickly outshone most of my peers, and my employer, recognizing a budding overachiever, piled on major tasks, which I eagerly accepted. What started as the occasional hour of overtime soon devoured my weekends. Unpaid overtime, as the fine print in my contract gleefully noted, became my new norm. Driven by a mix of ambition and expectation, I had become the go-to young hotshot, the erstwhile record-breaker now expected to continually outdo myself.
Mentally, I was too swamped to entertain thoughts of anything beyond work, which, in a twisted way, felt like a break. Physically, however, the strain began to show. A bout of flu caught on a business trip escalated into a fever. Sick as I was, deadlines waited for no one, and I soldiered on medicated and miserable. By the time I made it home, my voice had abandoned me. Unable to utter a word the next morning, I resorted to emailing my manager about my sorry state.
That week, robbed of my voice, I mused that it was perhaps a well-deserved hiatus for my overworked vocal cords—a silent retreat if you will. But when my voice did return, it was as a raspy whisper, a shadow of its former crisp and melodious timbre. My doctor offered a grim prognosis: slight improvement might come, but the golden tones were gone for good—scarred by the relentless grind. Ah, the price of ambition—a scratchy throat as a permanent reminder of my corporate conquests.
It seemed I had unwittingly exchanged the clarity of my voice for the tumult of career success. In the midst of our domestic enchantment with the possibly mystical kitchen island, Kath unearthed the contact of a reputed psychic, hailed as the finest in the land. However, the consultation fee was nothing short of princely, and with Jaz vehemently dismissing anything that couldn't be explained by cold, hard science, she promptly opted out of splitting the bill. Kath and I, unwilling to drain our wallets on what could be mere phantasmagoria, reluctantly let the opportunity pass.
Meanwhile, I couldn’t help but notice a curious change in Jaz’s routine. She had ceased dining at the kitchen island, avoiding it as if it were cursed—or perhaps, in her view, simply out of style. The Saturday morning brought a particularly harsh twist: a murder of crows took to spiralling above our balcony, their cries as sharp as the plot of a Poe novel. We found ourselves drawn to the infamous kitchen island, lined up like the cast of a macabre play, silently praying for the birds to disperse. Kath, ever trying to restore some semblance of normalcy, offered up cups of Blue Mountain coffee. She absentmindedly inquired if I wanted cream or sugar in mine—a blunder that made me realize just how long it had been since our last coffee klatch at this very spot. My inner monologue couldn't resist a dark wish for the crows to scatter, perhaps too dark, for they began to dive bomb our balcony in a feathery kamikaze. The spectacle was enough to knock Jaz off her feet—literally—as her mug met its end on the floor. Kath, meanwhile, made a hasty retreat to worship the porcelain god, and I sat frozen, my brain offline, pondering the twisted power of our kitchen island's apparent wish-granting.
After the unnerving spectacle of crows turning our balcony into a scene straight out of a Hitchcock film, our first rational step—post-collective fainting, of course—was to summon cleaners to manage the feathery carnage. Then, still rattled but increasingly curious, we visited a psychic, who, contrary to the crystal-ball-gazer image, operated out of a posh boutique in a high-end mall and dressed more like she was headed to a fashion show than a séance. We laid bare our saga of the seemingly cursed kitchen island, complete with photographic evidence of where domestic bliss meets eerie phenomena.
The psychic introduced a term that chilled the air around us: “limbo,” the threshold between our world and the otherworldly, and she dubbed our kitchen island the "Devil’s Bargain Counter." According to her, our wishes came with a heavy and unpredictable price, because we have accidentally started trades with beings from the netherworld. Her advice was disarmingly simple: cease all trades on the island. To address the repercussions of past wishes, she advised us the first line of defence, which was an eclectic mix of offerings laid out on our cursed countertop: raw meat(rooster works the best), a cocktail of spices(coca and cinnamon preferably), liberal splashes of spirits(whiskey and rum ideally), and an eerie bouquet of black flowers(luckily I found some black roses at a flower shop of the mall). In a grander gesture of appeasement, Kath relinquished her shiny new diamond bracelet, Jaz her absurdly expensive headphones, and I parted with cash—— a hefty slice of my bonus in hopes of placating whatever capricious spirits we'd angered.
Our return to normalcy was brief but sweet, prompting us to plan a getaway, eager to forget about our nefarious kitchen island. Yet, the respite was merely a tease. Jaz, in a stroke of spectacular misfortune, narrowly dodged disaster twice in one day—first nearly becoming subway track fodder on her way back after work, and then almost getting knocked out by a rogue plant at our apartment building’s doorstep. Clearly, our previous offerings were mere appetizers to whatever forces we'd stirred. The psychic, summoned once again to our now-dubious sanctuary, decreed that the spirits had developed rather expensive tastes, unsatisfied by our initial gestures.
In a desperate bid for closure, we had the psychic over for a nighttime ritual, timed perfectly with Earth's closest approach to the netherworld, according to her. Our living room turned into a ritual chamber, with windows blacked out for days, to keep the otherworldly dealings strictly nocturnal. That night, we arranged ourselves around the island, now less a kitchen fixture and more an altar of last resort.
The psychic, amidst a chorus of Latin incantations, directed us through a chilling séance that included a mirror that reflected nothing but darkness and a burning black candle, the three of us sat in a row, joined hands, eyes closed. When the black candle was flickering at its last, the first eerie scratches heard prompted our eyes to open prematurely, we saw a command appear on the island, written by invisible hand and pen, in blood-red script, urging us to find the next "succeeder" before our lease on otherworldly disturbances could be terminated.
With bated breath, we agreed, and as if by magic, our signatures materialized on the countertop, then faded as the candle sputtered out. We tore off the black cardboard taped on the windows at dawn, the sunrise revealed a final message etched into the surface: "Debt cleared." As the daylight grew, the ominous inscription dissolved into nothingness, signalling the end of our spectral saga.
The ordeal, now officially behind us, left us enjoying a semblance of normalcy: life in 606 returned to its mundane rhythm, with dinners and movie nights back on our social calendar. Though not without its scars—literal and figurative.
It’s been two years since then, Jaz, in the throes of romantic bliss, is now gearing up for a new chapter waiting to be written alongside her soon-to-be spouse; Kath, her career finally taking a lucrative turn, was poised to upgrade her living situation, she secured a lease on a lavish serviced apartment in the city center—a place that matched her newfound financial swagger.
I’m not without my own leaps forward. With a modest boost from my parents, I took the plunge into homeownership, snagging a property within the city’s vibrant confines. The process was a whirlwind of paperwork and decorating decisions, culminating in a space I could truly call my own.
As we are packing up now, my last act is to type out our story, at the infamous island, and of course, I left a note in the fridge for the next tenants:
"Welcome to 606. We had a wonderful time here, especially at the kitchen island, filled with joy and unforgettable moments. We hope you find as much happiness as we did. Use the isle well. Warm wishes, the previous tenants."

2024.05.15 00:06 AstroWaffle25 Switching Career Paths from Music

I’m considering switching career paths from music to occupational therapy, and am not sure where to start.
I have a B.M. and an M.M. in clarinet performance from two conservatories. I was sitting on the sidelines for the past year, because I developed golfer’s elbow in my right arm from practicing too much. I was told recently that I may need a second prp injection…and because it’s not covered by insurance, it’s going to set me back by quite a bit once again.
After I received this news, I began thinking about my future. My family can afford the injection, thankfully, if I decide to follow through. I will recover fully at some point, and I could go back to what I was doing—taking auditions left and right. But now that I know the risks and costs of pursuing a performing career firsthand, I’m having trouble justifying to myself resting a 5-pound clarinet on my right thumb on a daily basis.
The occupational therapists I’ve met are wonderful, caring human beings who have worked with many musicians. I get the impression that the atmosphere is much more collaborative compared to being in an orchestra, where improvement is a pretty solitary process. From the introductory articles I’ve read about what it takes to become an OT, I think my personality would be a good fit for the job, too. Plus, with my firsthand experience, I think I could help a lot of fellow musicians.
I’ve always done well academically, but my degrees are so unrelated to OT that I feel overwhelmed trying to figure out where to start. Any and all advice, wisdom, corrections about my impressions of your field, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.15 00:05 Immediate-Repeat2832 How do people find good doctors offices?????

Okay so I have the WORST luck finding good doctors in my area. My first doctor when I moved here had me tested for tuberculosis. This was for a daycare job I was trying to get. AND I LITERALLY TESTED POSITIVE. Instead of..idk, calling someone and getting imaging, she literally PRAYED for me in the room and sent me on my way. (She was since fired from the clinic-not for the TB issue but because she brought her religion into her practices). So I went to a different doctor in the same clinic. He tested me, I tested positive, and he just asked “what symptoms do you have?” And I said “I dont know I cough a lot but I have asthma”. So he said he would send a referral to a local hospital for imaging. He said to go there right after the appointment and just say I need imaging for TB and hand them a piece of paper. So my happy ahh drives all the way to this hospital, I hand them the paper, and the receptionist says there is no referral for me and the paper he handed me was literally just an Appointment Summary. I call the office, the nurse says that he will send it now, and nope. Never sent it. So I go about my life, not knowing what to do about this because no one ever explained it to me and I didnt bother doing resesrch to know how bad it actually is. Finally find a new doctor who actually takes it seriously. She actually sends a referral and I don’t have active tuberculosis!!! Yay I wont die or kill anyone else in the process!!! But then SHE fcks up! She refers me to a psychiatrist in the clinic because I needed a proper ADHD diagnosis. (News Flash: he was not a psychiatrist and he was just an RN. No, not a specialist RN who is educated in psychology and licensed. No, just an RN). He decides to diagnose me with bipolar disorder instead of ADHD, all within a 30 minute appointment. Prescribes me Latuda (WHICH IS AN ANTIPSYCHOTIC) and sends me on my way. Heres the kicker, I start taking Latuda and WOW. SHOCKER. I start having manic episodes!!! Something I hadn’t had before! So I go back to him and tell him this, and say “I think I just need ADHD treatment and to be providing coping mechanisms for my ADHD”. He says (in essence) “Well that sucks, keep taking Latuda to see if it works eventually.” I listened to him and kept taking it until I got pregnant. But this SAME doctor before I got pregnant tried to take out a benign tumor on my rib cage IN OFFICE. She literally tried to put the numbing sht in the area of my ribs, which btw hurts like a mofo. I literally almost punched the nurse, so they both decide to HOLD. ME. DOWN. IN. THE. CHAIR. I started sobbing and having a panic because-surprise again! I HAVE PTSD. She ends uo trying to rip this cyst or whatever out but cant, and at this point I am screaming and crying in pain. So she says “Yeah I guess I cant take it out. You might need to be put under for this. I will send a referral.” (She did not).
Anyway so last Wednesday I go to a whole new doctors office. Its small. I needed lab work done before my doctor saw me, so the only nurse in this clinic grabs me and he is sweating like a sinner in church and looks on the verge of tears. This man goes into a room with me and starts ranting about his job, his boss, how he wants to quit, etc. He is SHAKING because he is so angry. So I try to talk him down. I am usually really good at this. But while he is prepping my arm to poke me, he takes off one of his gloves AND STARTS POKING THE AREA WITH HIS BARE HANDS AFTER HE SANITIZED IT. He doesn’t sanitize it again. He also never washed his hands when he entered the room or put hand sanitizer on. HE THEN STARTS TOUCHING ALL OVER THE NEEDLE WITH HSI BARE HANDS. I am literally too anxious to say anything that might send him over the edge. Is this my fault? Fkcing absolutely. I should have said something. He pokes me, he misses my vein. He moves to my other arm AND DOES THE SAME SHT. So then moves to my hand, and this time finally hits a good vein. BUT THEN IS SWEATING ALL OVER THE NEEDLE AND THE HOLE IN MY SKIN. AND THEN GETS MAD AT ME WHEN I PANIC AND MOVE MY HAND. He NEVER sanitized after he touched me with his bare hand. Never cleaned it after he sweat all over my hand. And at this point I finally tell him to stop and that I need to go home.
I am now waiting for lab work to come back after that to see if I somehow got anything (as recommended by my insurance nurse line when I reported the incident).
How do I even go about finding a good doctors office? What do I look for when I search for one??

2024.05.15 00:04 NotHotAnymore Caught Early - What would you have done differently?

Mild carpal tunnel diagnosis (mild because the tingling/numbness hasn’t started yet). Pain, weakness, and occasional random swelling. I work full time typing (project manager is job 1 and job 2 is child welfare investigator so lots of court reports), I’m also working on a Master’s so typing papers. Doc gave splint for nighttime but the person who fitted me for splint said to wear as much as possible, physical therapy twice a week and 6 week light duty notice for work. EMG positive for median nerve lesion.
I want to do as much as I can to give my hand the best support so wondering what those who had to have surgery would suggest that maybe you didn’t get the opportunity to do or maybe was advised to do way too late in the diagnosis? Should I wear the splint anytime I’m typing, driving, cooking…etc? Daily NSAIDs even if I don’t have pain? Very new to this and nervous I’ll make it much worse.

2024.05.15 00:03 Manifester Career Pivot due to illness- Is this possible

A few months ago I received a diagnosis that halted my career and the best option for me is to make money working from home. Since I found this out I’ve been studying day trading and looking into various instruments and really like the perks of futures.
I came into this without having the expectation I could do this for my main income. However, after hundreds of hours of research and paper trading, the thought of trying to do it full time seams possible. Before this I had little experience studying markets. Threw some money into stocks here or there, but did not have much to invest.
I mostly learned through YouTube. I stayed away from the cringe gurus and stuck to the hard chart analysis and looking at charts until my eyes felt sore. I settled on MNQ and started paper trading with TradingView. I’ve mimicked the conditions as if I was trading for real the best I could. $10,000, risking 2% per trade, each trade starting with 5 micro contracts.
Over the past weeks I profited 3-4k on 5 different 10k paper trading accounts this is after subtracting what would be tradovates contract fees. I gravitated towards scalping with my trades lasting anywhere from 1-45 minutes with most being around 3-5 minutes, looking at a 1min chart. I mostly trade during NY AM, but I have traded overnight for more practice. I averaged about 20ish trades a day. I will admit that when I feel confident I will increase contract size to 10-15 and adjust stop loss to 3-4%. This does not happen that often, but I know this is generally considered a bad habit. I stop trading if I lose $500 which only happened a few times. I monitor trades closely and will exit well before target profit / stop loss if I start to feel less confident. I do let some winners run. I am constantly moving TP/SL during the duration of the trade and will sometimes add contracts. I have news alerts and a trading calendar.
I use a variety of things like S/R, volume, CCI, DOM, price action stuff. I started by just looking at MNQ charts in real time an unhealthy amount mostly starting before NY open and slowly I started to get a feel for how it moves (sometimes).
The fact is I know I am a noob. I write this for seasoned traders that may be generous enough to give their insight. Is it too early to start a real account? Is it just beginners luck or is this how it starts?
I’m really worried about a few things. Im eager to start but cautious. How different are orders being filled for 5-15 micros on MNQ compared to paper trading? Especially with the big jumps on MNQ. Could I get away with continuing to use trading view integrated with tradovate? Is there lag? Am I showing any red flags? Any tips? Gosh it all makes me nervous yet so excited.

2024.05.14 23:54 futuredrweknowdis Lighter Topic: Someday there’s going to be a dissertation on EP/these subs.

Today the news has been getting really heavy, so I thought I would share a cool thought. There are people who do their research papers/dissertations on phenomena like this, and it’s really likely that they will use subs like these to analyze the discourse.
So if we accomplish nothing else, we are providing data for some student who wants to explore this situation in the future. If this experience has made anyone consider trying out research, it’s a legit thing that can be studied in grad school. If anyone has questions let me know, because we need research on cool things like this.

2024.05.14 23:14 HRJafael Phillipston Town Election voters will choose on May 20, 2024 the next member of the Selectboard and a Proposition 2 ½ override aimed at handling the town’s expenses.

https://archive.is/9to49
In next Monday’s Annual Town Election, voters will choose the next member of the Selectboard and a Proposition 2 ½ override aimed at handling the town’s expenses. The race for Selectboard between candidates Nicole Gough and Earl Sweat is to fill the year remaining on the unexpired term of former member Dan Sanden, who resigned earlier this year. The $175,000 Proposition 2 ½ override will help cover the town’s expenses for the approaching fiscal year.
Aside from the Selectboard race, candidates for all other elective offices – mostly incumbents – won’t face any opposition. While a resident of Phillipston for the past 14 years, Gough is a newcomer to town politics. In an April interview with the Athol Daily News, the native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, said politics is something she’s always been interested in.
“I have a deep love for politics,” she said. “I have a deep love of history passed down to me by family.”
Gough said the vacancy on the Selectboard “really made me interested in serving my community and being interested in how our community is run by the local leadership in our towns and cities…I think we need some new ideas, and I want to focus on getting more people involved in the community. We need more people to be active. We need more ways to get more people excited and want to participate.”
Sweat, who grew up in Winchester, New Hampshire, moved to Phillipston in the late 1990s after accepting a job in Gardner. He has served on the Board of Assessors since 2022, his first experience in municipal government.
“I’ve been interested in town government since I was a kid,” he said. “My father and grandfather were both selectmen in the town that they grew up in.
“I think the biggest concern moving forward is finding a way to get more involvement from the residents, whether it’s getting them to show up at meetings, whether it’s establishing a better channel of communication to them.”
In a statement distributed to Phillipston residents, the Selectboard and Finance Committee said the decision to seek the override was not made lightly. The override is needed, said the release, due to an increase in operating expenses for both the town and regional schools.
According to the statement, an override of $175,000 would add 52 cents per every $1,000 of valuation. A home valued at $450,000 would see an increase of $234 per year on the property tax bill.
“The town’s recurring expenses are outweighing our recurring revenues,” the statement read. “Using one-time revenue from free cash or the stabilization fund to balance the budget is not possible or prudent as the funds will quickly become exhausted, and the town will lose its good financial standing.” At a recent Town Meeting, voters reduced the proposed $2.8 million FY25 budget by eliminating the position of building maintenance/groundskeeper, saving $35,000, and cutting the administrative assistant’s salary by $12,879. If the override fails, the cuts voted at Town Meeting will remain in place.
Candidates running unopposed next Monday include:
■Bernie Malouin, Board of Selectmen, three years
■David Manty, Board of Assessors, three years
■Karissa Moore, Board of Health, three years
■Steven Burnett, Cemetery Commission, three years
■Fern Stellato, Constable, three years
■Sylvia Haley, Board of Library Trustees, three years
■Tom Specht, Planning Board, five years
■Gordon Moore, Planning Board, two years
■Jared McDonald-Bourbeau, Town Moderator, three years
■Kathryn Buell, Narragansett Regional School Committee, Phillipston, three years
■Jennifer Smith, Narragansett Regional School Committee, Templeton, three years
Positions with no candidate include Cemetery Commission and Narragansett Regional School Committee, Templeton. Specht and Moore are the only non-incumbents, aside from Gough and Sweat, seeking election.
Phillipston’s Annual Town Election will take place on Monday, May 20, from noon-8 p.m. at Phillipston Town Hall.

Zerritt (PvE/Commentary/Speedruns & Challenges) - Zeritt is a newer wiztuber and has been growing pretty quick in the wizard101 community with a ton of really insightful and great videos. He does occasionally livestream questing and unique questing challenges for his videos. Good at making wiz memes.
Goomay (PvE/PvP/Commentary/Community Events/Speedruns & Challenges) - Goomay is a goated wiztuber although he mainly livestreams on twitch rather than make youtube content. His streams are very fun to watch and he does a lot of engaging activities with his community. Also good at making wiz memes.
LiahmIsaVibe (PvE/PvP/Commentary/Guides) - Liahm is popular PvPer that also has a lot of interesting commentary videos that I love to watch. Does doompost frequently but overall has valuable insights to offer.
Kaiser Noah (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Kaiser Noah is definitely my top pick for youtubers because his commentary videos are such calm and great content to watch while playing the game. He stated that he quit but recently has came back a little for his commentaries & reviews but I hope he sticks around because his videos are addicting to watch.
Zaepha (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Zaepha is a great wiztuber that helps the community out with guides and a ton of insightful commentary videos. She has a great sense of humor and definitely makes it great to binge watch her content.
DaRealAlmond (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - DaRealAlmond one of my favorites because his videos are such a vibe to listen to and he does give a lot of great insights and feedback to the game. He recently unfortunately made a video of him going to slow down content creation but hopefully he still sticks with us.
JamesTheAce (PvP/Commentary/Guides) - James has been making wiz content for a while now and although he hasn't been posting much, his videos are definitely a recommendation to watch for those into PvP, althoiugh he can also doompost like Liahm sometimes.
Froggys (PvE/Commentary/Speedruns & Challenges) - Froggys doesn't upload as much as the others, but definitely pushed out a lot of great commentary and challenge pieces on wizard101. Has some sarcastic humor in his videos which definitely makes his videos fun to watch!
Gladrocker (Beastmoon & Deckathalon/Commentary) - Gladrocker is not a youtuber with a lot of wizard101 content, but still recently surfaced with amazing videos such as the iceberg series, beastmoon guides, and some intriguing game related stuff. Definitely a choice to watch as you quest through the game.
Cheervalx (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Cheervalx has a ton of wiz content you can watch and also participate in with her livestreams. She's another great wiztuber to watch for guides, tips, and tutorials. She also does a lot of commentary videos and covers all the updates and releases.
Kore & Boar Tech (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Kore and Boar are definitely great guys that make a ton of amazing videos with a great sense of humor added to it. They are definitely worth to binge watch their content.
Tntosion (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Tntosion is a great wiztuber for her commentary videos on wizard101 and what makes her videos addicting is how well edited they are. Great channel I recommend.
WOWKay (PvE/Commentary) - WOWKay is new to wizard101 and her walkthrough videos are hilarious to watch. She's very casual to the game and her unhinged commentaries are definitely great to watch.
Cizorj & Richard Unicorn Caller (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Great channel to get wiz news from and he also makes a lot of great commentary videos overall!
Genevie Moongarden (PvE/Commmentary/Guides) - Genevie is definitely the go to wiztuber for review and updates on wizard101. She also does make a lot of other wizard101 content that's great to watch!
Wenius (PvE/Commentary/Guides) - Wenius has been making wizard101 walkthroughs that are great and fun to watch and has made a lot of guides for the wiz community.
Ice Gold (PvE/PvP/Commentary/Guides) - Ice Gold has a lot of great content for the more advanced players and does frequently livestream as well.
King Phaestus (PvE/Commentary) - Not only is he a KI dev, but Cam also does play the game a lot during his free time. He streams a lot on twitch and also puts clips of his streams on his YT channel. A very friendly dev that is great to watch!

2024.05.14 22:48 Upstairs-Solution404 Legally change my race

Hi everyone. Is it possible to legally change my race? Long story short, my self hating white mother and black father put “black” on my birth certificate when I’m a mixed/white passing biracial woman. (Blue eyes, freckles) It’s a big problem for me because it’s not accurate at all. I even took a dna test and it shows that I have more white than black ancestry. I just want to be identified as my true identity. I want to change it to mixed instead of black. The reason is because one time I went to the ER and they were forcing me to choose between white or black as they were interviewing me on the way to the hospital and I refused to choose and they said you HAVE to pick a race and I said no and they chose for me and just selected “white”….another time I went to renew my drivers license and the lady at the front counter was a black lady and I was telling her to change my race on my id from black to mixed and she looked up my parents and was giving me a hard time because black people think they own us biracials and she was offended because she felt that I didn’t want to be apart of her community when in reality we are very different, different ancestry, physically very different looking. Even I have black friends who question what it’s like to be biracial, that ask me questions that they wouldn’t ask eachother. To an extent they understand that we’re different and not just physically. They can’t comprehend having fully white family members and they tend to ask a lot about white people. There’s a big difference between biracials and AAs who have a drop of white or very little admixture. Even our hair textures are different and I get sunburns when AAs usually don’t. Bottom line is, no one sees or perceives me as a black woman even though it’s on my birth certificate and I’m SICK and TIRED of being wrongfully identified. Also if I have children one day, I want them to be aware and proud of ALL of their ancestry, not only the black side. When I’m long gone, I don’t want them to remember me as a black woman when my true identity is biracial and I want them to be proud of all of their ancestry including their white side. I want them to aware of their TRUE ancestry and not just what’s falsely written on paper as black. This situation is really stupid and it effects me on a daily basis. How do I legally go about changing my false race from black to biracial in government documents? I’m in Texas.

2024.05.14 22:42 MissingMilkCartonKid Rant on Frustration of the Current Meta by a New(ish) Player

I started playing Marvel Snap on Feb 11th of this year (day of the Super Bowl) and have played it everyday since. I've completed every daily mission, bought & completed every season pass since then (I started on the Black Swan season), and have grown to collection level 3,070 using my gold to buy more daily missions and having bought the occasional bundle. I'm still missing around 18 Series 3 cards and a whole bunch of Series 4 & 5 cards. My ladder peak is 95 though I usually sit in the 80s until late seasons when I try to push as far as I can go (hoping for Infinite this season). Needless to say, I love this game and have enjoyed it more than any digital card game or mobile game. Even though I'm currently frustrated, I still love it and play it every day.
All of that being said, this most recent update has greatly influenced the games I play and I'm honestly not sure what to do to counter it. Leech's drop to a 4-Cost has made most decks that I run kinda useless. Destroy is shot, Discard is shot, my On-Reveal/Wong variations are all pretty gone. Then Klaw's buff has made Ongoing decks really popular, leading to Enchantress being in damn near every game I play. Mix this with Ultron bots getting double power, the rise in Patriot/Ultron decks was glaringly apparent over the weekend. Then, to counter Ultron decks, the rise in popularity of Professor X Shutdown style decks is rampant. It's just a mess.
Obviously everything I'm saying isn't news, from comments I've seen online and videos made by various content creators, I'm not alone in this. But for the first time in my albeit short stint of playing, it feels like every single game I play is one of 3 or 4 decks. I broke a personal record this weekend by building out & playing 9 different decks (mostly those I found online but i did create a few of my own) and I feel that none of them could provide me with consistent play - not even wins.
The amount of times Leech would strip me of any possibilities was often, the amount of times I would use Wave to try to get out a single On Reveal card before the inevitable Leech play only for them to Cosmo my play beforehand (probably trying to prevent a Leech themselves). I haven't had a consistent game since the OTA last week.
I don't mean to complain so much, like I said I still love the game. This is just the first time since I started playing that I genuinely don't enjoy most of the games I play. I don't care about winning as much as I care about enjoying the play. There's nothing better than playing the absolute best strategy, the perfect sequence of moves for your deck, thinking you're going to absolutely win, only for your opponent to play something wild and crazy and sweep the win out from you (except of course, narrowly winning your self in the same fashion). I would take good matches with 40% win rate over boring, redundant matches with 80% win rate any day of the week.
Sorry for the rant, I just didn't know where to voice my opinion. Figured I'd yell into the blank void that is the internet. I'll get over all of this in the next 2-3 days but for now I'll just try as many different decks as I can.
TL;DR - Leech's buff, mixed with various other buffs and tweaks has reduced the number of decks i encounter in matches to a very limited number and I feel that the gameplay itself is really suffering. I'm a newer player so it's the first time I've encountered this cycle of boring, redundant games.

2024.05.14 22:25 Luckyword1 Vanguard $100 Account Closure Fee

Having read the Vanguard email about Account Closure Fees, I"m thinking of leaving Vanguard before the closure fee effective date of July 1.
I don't have very much money at Vanguard, and though I'd like to keep the account open, the idea of paying $100 to close it, should I want to do so in the future, seems like a waste of money.
What's odd to me is Vanguard indicated thet "may" charge that fee (per their email).
Does anyone know under what circumstances they'll charge it?
Any products at Vanguard that I can"t access from other Brokerages?
Any reasons to keep the account open?
I have accounts open at almost all of the major brokeragss and I think Fidelity is my favorite in terms of products, ease of use and customer support.
I do like the daily Vanguard news alert emails about the markets I receive each day, but I could live without these as well.

I’m laughing crying. Luke in an interview idk for which news outlet 😂😂😭😭 why hasn’t Nic joked about her soap box?
I don’t mind being ✨vertically challenged✨ but thought it’d be a way to waste time while waiting for s3 fun to share some of the ridiculousness we contend with daily lmao I’ll start:
  • Standing on my tippy toes when taking pics so I’m in the frame
  • Upper shelves/cabinets are ✨strictly decorative✨
  • What people see when I’m angry: 😠
  • I’m a professional climber from counters to shelves at the grocery store to barstools to SUVs 💪
  • It keeps me humble to ask someone to borrow their height when my aerial acrobatics fail to reach
  • I’m 22 but I’m girl not woman and sometimes people say I’m lying thinking I’m underage 😕😒 like chill bro my growth plates been sealed since age 10 I’m a fully jaded adult
  • Oversized tshirts become dresses
  • Mini dresses are knee length 😭
  • “Must be this tall to ride roller coaster” stfu
  • Never sat on a single piece of furniture where my feet touched the floor
  • Fighting for my life to stay afloat while everyone’s chilling around me with their feet planted on the bottom in the pool/at the beach, which leads to me eventually climbing on someone’s back to save my life, and everyone thinks it’s ✨cute✨ I almost drowned but okay 🫠🫠
  • I look like a toddler on crack playing pool at the bars (pubs)
Is it Thursday yet?

2024.05.14 21:33 AsunaYuuki837373 Tuesday update

Tuesday update
The RoundUp Punishment: Has an excellent drop of 25% from last Tuesday as tomorrow is a holiday. We are hitting 10 million admits tomorrow.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: First Tuesday is only 33% smaller than War's first Tuesday. The good news is that this movie seems to have better legs than War.
Fall Guy: A not so pretty 64% from last Tuesday drop as the movie won't hit 2 million dollars
KP4: A excellent 34% from last Tuesday drop as the movie is set to cross to 12 million dollars
Exhuma: A sweet 13% drop as the movie is now a good bit across 11.9 million admits.
Challenger: An amazing increase by 11% from last Tuesday. 500k dollars should be locked.
Notes for tomorrow.
Haikyuu has a CGV start of 69k. In expecting an opening day of close to 350k admits. It is going to be extremely frontloaded but it should double its presales in walk-ups
Garfield has a 27k start. Garfield should be sliding into a 250k admits opening day.
I might be horrible and be wrong massively since I don't usually do opening day prediction myself. Plus we haven't had a whole lot of massive anime movies that opened since I started these post l. I think only The Boy and The Heron but that was massively affected by audience reactions being on the negative side.

2024.05.14 21:27 Pigweenies Would this be a wise trade? (Demo account)

Would this be a wise trade? (Demo account)
Hello all, very new to trading. Was wondering if my trade here on Forex would be a wise decision and or a good thought process.
Im currently trading on a demo account to get used to the whole thing and after watching a ton of videos on Forex trading im trying it out on todays market. I started with identifying support and resistance, kinda sloppily as Im not very good at identifying the levels but I think it gets the job done. I noticed that the market is swinging toward an uptrend, likely indicating a buy position, however I also saw the news articles near the bottom and on forex factory that would come out, all of which possibly being a negative effect. Multiple in a row makes me think that this market would eventually shift to a downtrend as more people sell and have less confidence in the market. Looking for some pointers or insights as to whether this is a good decision as well as any beginner advice to stick to. Thanks!
Chart is GBPUSD trading on Daily.

There needs to be plenty to keep players entertained, there need to be provably fair games, and sports betting is an added bonus. Here's what Heybets has to offer:
Slot Games
With traditional online casinos, slot games are the staple of what's on offer. These are the most popular casino games out there, and so you'd expect the best bitcoin casino sites to perform well here. The good news is that Heybets certainly delivers here. There are classic slots, jackpot slots, and those with stunning bonus rounds. Just a few of the titles include:
While the number of slots matters, for a site to be the best bitcoin casino, the quality matters too. Fortunately, the games here only come from the best providers, such as:
This just goes to show that you can rely on online crypto casinos if you're one of the many slot fans out there.
Table and Card Games
Something else that makes Heybets one of the best cryptocurrency casinos is the fact that it also caters well for fans of other games. Here, you'll find a selection of classics, such as:
Live Casino Games
Heybets also has a great range of live dealer games. You can enjoy live versions of blackjack, roulette, and baccarat. Thanks to the fact that the live casino is powered by Evolution Gaming, you can also make the most of live game shows, such as Dream Catcher and Monopoly Big Baller.
Banking and Crypto Transactions
As with all gambling websites, the payment methods on offer are important when it comes to choosing an online casino to play at. The top bitcoin casino sites allow players to use a range of cryptocurrencies, as well as supporting other methods that you'd find at fiat casinos. Ay Heybets, you can use the following to fund your account and play casino games:
While there's plenty of choice here, what would make this stronger would be the inclusion of the likes of Dogecoin and Tether.
When considering more traditional methods of depositing and withdrawing, Heybets also allows you to use bank wire. There are no fees when using this option for fiat currencies, but users of crypto will need to be aware of the relevant GAS fees.
Heybets and Bonuses and promotions
As you'd expect from a site that could well be considered the best bitcoin casino, there are a host of bonuses and promotions here. Let's get the bad news out of the way with first: this crypto casino does not offer a welcome bonus. With that out of the way, let's take a look at the bonuses and promotions on offer for existing players. While these change on a regular basis, these are the ones that are a constant:
Raise Your Arm Zeus
This bonus comes into play when you're playing the online slot, Gates of Olympus. You'll activate the bonus at this bitcoin casino if you manage to win 20x - 100x from the free spins feature. If you're in luck, this leads to this crypto casino boosting your winnings by 100%.
Extra Juice
The lack of a welcome bonus doesn't seem to sting quite so much when you look at the likes of Extra Juice. This bonus kicks in on a selection of new casino games. It can lead to winnings being boosted by 7%.
Sports Betting
While our focus is on online casinos, it's worth noting that Heybets also offers a range of ongoing bonuses and promotions for customers of its sportsbook.
Loyalty Program
If you're looking for the bitcoin casino with the best loyalty rewards then Heybets is it. The VIP program here has 5 tiers, and each comes with its own rewards. To enter at the bronze level, you need to have wagered at least $2,500. With this, you can enjoy 5% cashback on all bets. Just like all relatively new bitcoin casino sites, there's a need for Heybets to go above and beyond to inspire confidence. It certainly does that with almost instant responses on its live chat which is staffed by knowledgable and polite agents. The only downside is that this isn't available 24/7.

The Metaspins Bitcoin Casino

When looking at the best bitcoin casinos, Metaspins is another online gambling site that can't be ignored. If you're the kind of player seeking an attractive deposit bonus, then you'll be more than happy with what's on offer here. As we get into the detail, you'll soon see why Metaspins deserves a place on our list of the best bitcoin casinos.
Metaspins and Bitcoin Games
Something that is clear when looking at the best BTC casinos is that there is no shortage when it comes to the range of games that there are to choose from. What puts Metaspins in the running for the best bitcoin casino site is the fact that there are more than 2,500 games to explore. Given that this site was only launched in 2022, it can still be considered to be one of the new bitcoin casino sites, so there's a good chance that the range of games will only grow. Let's take a closer look at what's on offer now:
Slot Games
What makes Metaspins one of the best crypto casinos is the range of slots that can be played. These are provably fair games, and they come from some of the best providers in the business. In fact, what makes the range of slots so exciting here is the sheer number of providers that Metaspins works with. There are more than 30 of these, including the likes of:
You can expect to come across some of the most popular slot titles, such as Gonzo'a Quest, Starburst, and Dark King: Forbidden Riches. For fans of jackpot slots, there's a great range of these too, including Jackpot Quest and Rainbow Jackpots Power Lines.
Table and Card Games
As you'd expect from a site in the ranks of the best bitcoin casino, there's more to this BTC casino than slots. There's also a great range of table and card games, meaning that Metaspins is an attractive destination for fans of all casino games. The games that you'll find cover all the classics such as:
Live Casino Games
Like many of the best crypto casinos, Metaspins also has an impressive range of live games. These come from top developers such as Swintt and Evolution Gaming. When gambling online here, there are traditional titles to choose from, including live poker games, as well as game show experiences. such as Crazy Time and Boom City.

This crypto casino accepts a range of cryptocurrencies. This is good news for players as it means that can find the crypto that suits them. As bitcoin online casinos go, this is an impressive showing and will be a major draw for new players.
Metaspins Bonuses and Promotions
A major part of online casinos is the welcome bonus money that's up for grabs. Alongside this, players also like to see reload bonuses, cashback, free spins and even no deposit bonuses (although these are a little on the rare side). With that in mind, let's take a look at what this bitcoin casino has to offer:
Metaspins Welcome Bonus
The welcome bonus offered here is certainly attractive, and is bound to catch the eye of many players. As one of the best bitcoin casino sites, Metaspins offers a 100% match bonus up to a maximum of 1 btc. That means that if you were to deposit 0.5 btc, you'd then be rewarded with another 0.5, meaning that you had 1 btc to play with. The only watch out here is the wagering requirements. They come in at 40x, and they need to be met within 7 days. This could prove a little tricky if you were to take advantage of the maximum bonus money offered.
Deposit and Get
As deposit bonuses go, this one we think is extremely impressive. It really is as simple as it sounds: you continue to make deposits, and you can be certain that you'll get rewards. You just need to keep an eye on your rewards panel. When you see a notification, give it a click and see what you've been given. Some of the rewards on offer are:
These ongoing rewards mean that there are plenty of reasons for players to stay loyal to, what we believe, is one of the best bitcoin casinos.
Sports Betting
Just like many of the other best bitcoin casinos, Metaspins also has an impressive sports betting section. There are separate bonuses to be enjoyed here.
Metaspins Customer Service
To be seen as one of the best crypto casino sites, there's a need for online gambling platforms to offer outstanding customer service. Bitcoin casinos are still relatively new, and knowing that the company is there when you need it matters even more than it does at traditional sites. Metaspins delivers here, with 24/7 live chat, as well as a detailed FAQ section. The fact that customer support is always there means that this truly is one of the top bitcoin casinos.
Mobile Experience
This btc casino doesn't have a dedicated app as yet, but that doesn't mean the games can't be enjoyed on the go. Simply by using your mobile browser, you can access Metaspins from any mobile device and enjoy the full crypto casino experience, no matter where you are.

Reputable casinos need to be there for their customers. There need to be ways that customers can reach out and have their queries resolved in a timely manner.
