I have been stuck for days trying to get MT4 on my macbook air. I have wine downloaded, quartz, and playonmac. When i go to download the MT4 through PlayonMac, it says something about 32-bit vs 64 bit. Is what I'm trying possible? Will getting an M2 chip help?

I think we have a problem... My PC blocked this from downloading and blocked PlayOnHomeSetup.5.0.154 from running to reinstall the "MediaMall\PlayOn.exe" that got ripped from my PC by anti-virus. Does anyone think we will hear form Playon?

2024.02.14 10:23 CryptosianTraveler Either remove some of the faulty features, like Plugins, or shut the project down

As someone that runs Unraid, a product with a roadmap that I could swear somehow involves a bong, and has worked professionally with products like IBM's Websphere Portal, possibly one of the biggest pieces of turdware designed to generate consulting gigs, I figured I'd give this thing a shot due to losing some servers in an Unraid install. I figured 7 years is about enough with a dev team that produces releases in a cycle I like to refer to as "good, good, BOOM, good, good, BOOM". It gets old after a while. Especially when you see the release cycle shift to "BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, ....ok" in the same month. I just don't have the time for that level of ineptitude anymore.
I need a home solution for personal data and entertainment, not a full time hobby.
So I thought I'd throw this thing up to test out the plugins (stumble-ins?). Nothing crazy, just one of the community plugins called "Channels DVR". I had that running for YEARS in an Unraid VM until one of their "upgrades" went "BOOM" again. Channels was my back end for tuner aggregation behind Emby. That was another hour of my life I'll never get back, as I finally encountered a ridiculous error something about 13.1 not found. After reading up on it I realized the thing probably hasn't worked since the last time Biden remembered his own name, and no the half-assed workaround involving the creation of a 13.2 jail doesn't work. So I read some more, and apparently this is a common problem. Followed by a handful of MINDLESS assertions of how great this product is because of the core feature.
Great, so not much else works right, but as a glorified file server it's top notch! That's like touting my girlfriend's knowledge of the Kama Sutra making her the best in bed, if only her chastity belt weren't WELDED ON.
TO BE CLEAR, I'm not writing this to criticize. I'm writing this to BEG. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, please be the first in this space to create something that can proudly wear the label "IT JUST WORKS!". Because I have yet to encounter this with ANY software product I use at home, no matter how much I pay for it. The ENTIRE open source community these days seems like a collection of people that can do one or two great things by themselves, but lack the ability to work as a team so they will never produce anything great. Just a whole lot of "BUT WHYYYYYYYYYYYY"s on our part.
I mean really, think about it. How many "products" LIKE THIS ONE, are nothing more than one or two pieces of a puzzle that's missing all the contiguous pieces required to create a total solution? EVERYTHING I'm using whether it be Emby, or the friggen Hubitat box double sided taped to the back of a table in the foyer, is missing something it needs to be perfect. But you can read MILLIONS of pages of nerdy sh** telling you to spend HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of hours tinkering with these turds to produce a viable solution.
It's 2024, and this sh** got old a long time ago. C'mon guys, yeah, you DO have the best solution in the storage space. So why are you so much like that random crack-head wandering the city streets fiddling with his junk while standing on the double yellow when it comes to the rest of the pieces of the puzzle? BE THE FIRST! Like I said you have the best in the storage space, aka, THE FOUNDATION of something great. Be the first to put the rest together for a home solution. PARTNER with those that CAN create the missing pieces if you can't yourselves. Which pieces? ANYTHING software that runs a home. Everything from media to smart-home. We should have a single server that not only houses and delivers all those movies we bought, but rips them automatically, or downloads them using a Playon plugin and puts them on the server with one or two clicks. Changing the temperature on my thermostat at home should be something I can easily do with a TV remote. I can already do it with Alexa. If I walk in the door at 6pm my favorite lying news channel should automatically pop-on because the system sensed the presence of my phone, and the heat should set itself to a temperature for an occupied home the moment I pull up in the driveway. Better yet when I'm 3 miles away and heading home. You get the picture. But being the best in the storage space with pieces of the product failing that worked better a DECADE ago is just ridiculous and inexcusable. End of rant.
Keep in mind, I wrote this crazy rant HERE, because I think that much of the product. If I didn't, I wouldn't even bother.

2024.01.26 21:14 leishirsute Bizarre subtitle handing on Android

If I try to play Playon Home videos on my local Android device using Playon Cloud, the cloud app can play the video without subtitles. As soon as I try to use subtitles with the CC button, the app brings up Android subtitles device settings instead of subtitles language setting in the cloud app. When I back out of the android subtitles settings, Playon cloud issue an Playback Error popup. If I try to replay the video, the error consistently display.
Here's a weird part:
If I rotate the device from portrait to landscape, the Playback error is cleared and I can once again play the video on the local Android device but without subtitles.
More weirdness, the video can cast to Chromecast from the same Android device and correctly allows subtitles selection.

I've tried downloading the video from Playon Home to the Android device resulting in no change in behavior.
It seems like extremely buggy code dealing with subtitles and rotation on the Android app version.
Additional info:
The IOS Playon Cloud app does not encounter any of these issues with the same video. Subtitles and rotation are displayed without issues.
Also, the IOS version's screen which lists of available can rotate. Android's does not rotate.
It looks as if the Android app was not developed with similar capabilities or debugged with as much rigor as the IOS version.
Using UMIDIGI Android Tablet and Android 13 version
UPDATE: I tried the above on my Moto G Pure Android 13 phone and subtitles play for the same video. However, the app's screen still does not rotate and selectintg CC while playing a video brings up the Android caption settings instead of the apps' CC on or off and language selections menu.

2024.01.26 17:57 klhs AcornTV availability/issues

Is anyone else using PlayOn to download shows from AcornTV? If so, have you had problems in the last few days? I was able to download a few episodes using (Android) PlayOn Cloud earlier this week, but Acorn no longer appears as an option in the mobile app. It does still appear on PlayOn Home but I just tried recording four episodes of a series and each one failed.

Hi,
I am currently using a MacBook Pro 2015 running Monterey 12.6.2.
I've downloaded PlayonMac but am having no luck installing Guild Wars. Can anyone help at all?
I've used CrossOver and found it very easy to use but I can't really afford the subscription cost just to play Guild Wars at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

2023.12.27 05:54 user20231225 Asking for help backing up/ripping purchased Google Play Movies

I'm a big believer in physical media - I believe in owning the content I purchase. I've held out for a long time, but the tides don't appear to be turning, and, if anything, they're getting worse. I'm already seeing a future where companies no longer offer physical discs so that they can further exert their control over consumers. So I want to try and be ahead of it. If I have to suffer through digital, I at least want to remove DRM (after all, DRM-free digital isn't terribly different from physical).
For music, this is trivial, as thankfully, the industry never really tried to clamp down on using DRM files, and MP3s are the de-facto standard (with other higher quality formats like FLAC available).
For books/comics, this is mostly trivial. I'm familiar with exporting books off Google Play and using Calibre and DeDRM to get EPUBs of the novels I purchase.
That leaves me with movies/TV shows (i.e. video content). I've purchased a test movie from Google Play to be used for experiments before I decide to start purchasing more movies through this avenue.
Note that I'm not interested in pirating (at least in the definition of obtaining it from somewhere else). This is a personal choice, as I still believe in purchasing the content (and no, I don't want to purchase the content first, and then pirate it from a different website - while self-imposed, these are my morals and my standards; if what I'm asking is not possible at the current time, so be it).
I want to be able to (through whichever vector is easiest) take the movie that I purchased from Google Play and somehow either remove the DRM or convert it into an open-standard format. I've looked at different guides (both here and elsewhere), but haven't really found a good solution. I've also done searches on the sub around this topic, but mostly just see people recommending using PlayOn or some other HDMI/screen recorder. It appears like there's not a way to decrypt the EXO files that get generated when the video is downloaded for offline viewing onto a mobile device.
I'm not in love with those answers, so I'd like to post just to see if there's anything I'm missing or if there have been any updates recently.
So, to recap:
  1. I have a movie that I have purchased through Google Play that I "own" (obviously using the term liberally, but distinguishing from "not-a-rental").
  2. I have access to both a Windows PC and an Android phone (versions can be provided if relevant).
  3. I can stream the movie from a browser or download it for offline storage on the Android phone (which appear to be EXO files; my understanding is these are not decryptable at present).
  4. I do not want to use any sort of "screen recording" or HDMI recording, if at all possible.
  5. I do not want to pirate from a different website. I want the rip to come from the file/access that I have purchased.
Any hopes for me on this front or is my request simply not feasible at this time? Thank you.

2023.12.20 15:04 MrFrimplesYummyDog Downloading at speed?

I purchased a few seasons of a show off YouTube and I'd like to download them and put them on my Plex setup so everything is integrated.
There are a LOT of free solutions out there for downloading videos, but I have 3 requirements:
  1. Can I download at speed, rather than what amounts to streaming the video real-time and capturing it like many do.
  2. Needs to be able to log into YouTube so that I can view the purchased media. No login = no viewing of the videos.
  3. Loose requirement: No watermarks or additions to the video.
I've been putzing around with PlayOn Home version and it meets need number 2, but it streams in real time and puts a note before/after the video saying that "Joe Blow ([joeblow@gmail.co](mailto:joeblow@gmail.co)m) at IP Address 1.2.3.4 downloaded this video and it is illegal to distribute." I don't intend on distribution, but it feels a little draconian to have that before and after my show. I could always edit the videos, but I'm sure there must be alternative capture methods.

2023.12.09 18:44 talking_tortoise My experience so far with LM

Hi all,
Firstly I wanted to say I'm obviously very grateful alternatives to windows and Mac os like this exist. Running LM XFCE my early 2010s MacBook Air went from being unusable to feeling like a different computer which is unreal. I have 2 laptops, both aging, and I was hoping to use mint mac as a home and work computer.
I should also note whilst I'd consider myself to be fairly literate about technology, I have little to no understanding of coding or linux. However, in the interests of hopefully improving LM down the road I though I would write a bit about my experience after a week of using it.
Out of the box, Ctrl a, Ctrl v and Ctrl c did not do what they do on every other computer I have ever used. This drove me nuts to say the least. Looking online, people were saying it's shift+Ctrl... But when i did shift+Ctrl C, some sort of developer console opened, instead of copying text. I looked up how to get this working online and attempted to add these functions to my computer, and appeared to fix it for now. Like I said though, how that is not the default is completely baffling.
I also cannot get my webcam to work at all. I sunk a few hours trying to download drivers via the CMD console, though the fix posted online seems not to work for me for some reason. I would copy and paste the same things as written online with different results, and from I read apple cams are an issue on Linux. I totally understand thing like this are out of the Devs control, but it hurts the experience no less for the end user. Hopefully they can fix this one day.
Last point is not having access to MS office. A few things to note: - I understand Microsoft have deliberately not made a version for Linux, - I have looked into libre office. Using it this week, I noticed formatting errors on documents I was opening from word, not usable given my colleagues all use MS Office - Office through the browser Ive found out this week is dogshit, and I imagine intentionally so to get people to buy the suite. Bugs and formatting issues galore using it on several documents.
So, as it is clear I need MS office, I went the PlayonLinux route and tried both 2013 and 2016 to no avail (also unable to use 7zip for some reason lol).
I will continue to look for a fix for PlayonLinux, but until I can get that working my hopes of using this computer for work have been dashed.
As mentioned, my hope in writing this is that it will provide feedback for anyone reading that may work on the project and make it better for the future.
Cheers.

2023.12.09 00:37 phaedrus4565 Can anyone cast to a Fire TV?

I just picked up a Fire TV to cast from PlayOn Cloud. However, I always get an error with every recording. I have submitted a ticket, but that was a week ago and no one has gotten back to me.
I can cast from my PC, but that means I have to download everything to my PC.
Does it work for anyone?

2023.10.28 11:42 Alawishes3222 Where do I find the Closed Caption files that should come with PlayOn Cloud recordings

I just started using PlayOn Cloud yesterday. I am also very hard of hearing and depend on closed captions. Using PlayOn Cloud I recorded an episode of "The Man in High Castle from my Amazon Prime account. I know that it is closed captioned. But when I go to play the PlayOn recording it asks for the closed caption file name. I've looked high and low and can't find any other file associated with the main mp4 file. I've looked on both my phone and then downloaded the video on my pc and can find no other files associated with the MP4 file. T
HELP!!!
Thank you.

2023.10.19 02:44 spudchick need help with mapping syntax (replace existing subs with external srt)

Hello,
I have some mp4s downloaded from PlayOn Cloud, from which I exported and edited the integral subs.
I now want to replace the integral subs with the srt, but am having trouble with the mapping.
here's the relevant ffprobe:
INPUT: Stream #0:0[0x1](und): Video: hevc (Main) (hvc1 / 0x31637668), yuv420p(tv), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 3175 kb/s, 29.89 fps, 29.97 tbr, 90k tbn (default) Metadata: handler_name : VideoHandler vendor_id : [0][0][0][0] Stream #0:1[0x2](und): Audio: aac (LC) (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 44100 Hz, stereo, fltp, 191 kb/s (default) Metadata: handler_name : SoundHandler vendor_id : [0][0][0][0] Stream #0:2[0x3](eng): Subtitle: mov_text (tx3g / 0x67337874), 0 kb/s (default) Metadata: handler_name : SubtitleHandler Stream #0:3[0x4](eng): Data: bin_data (text / 0x74786574) Metadata: handler_name : SubtitleHandler Unsupported codec with id 98314 for input stream 3
After googling around I've tried both of these but without success, because I don't quite get how the stream mapping works, not enough to base it on the actual file I'm working with.
ffmpeg -i fname.mp4 -f srt -i fname.srt -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 1:0 -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s mov_text fname_new.mp4 ffmpeg -i fname.mp4 -f srt -i fname.srt -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 0:2 -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s mov_text fname_new.mp4
The result of the first has no audio, and the second has audio (in a different order) and doesn't show the added srt subtitle as an option during playback, just the integral (unedited) one.
OUTPUT: Stream #0:0[0x1](und): Video: hevc (Main) (hvc1 / 0x31637668), yuv420p(tv), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 3175 kb/s, 29.89 fps, 29.97 tbr, 90k tbn (default) Metadata: handler_name : VideoHandler vendor_id : [0][0][0][0] Stream #0:1[0x2](eng): Subtitle: mov_text (tx3g / 0x67337874), 0 kb/s (default) Metadata: handler_name : SubtitleHandler Stream #0:2[0x3](und): Audio: aac (LC) (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 44100 Hz, stereo, fltp, 191 kb/s (default) Metadata: handler_name : SoundHandler vendor_id : [0][0][0][0] Stream #0:3[0x4](eng): Data: bin_data (text / 0x74786574) Metadata: handler_name : SubtitleHandler
How can I make sure only the integral audio and video streams, and the added SRT subtitle, are in the output, and none of the integral subs?
Thanks in advance!

2023.10.05 06:49 Curious_Suggestion80 Why is Playon all of a sudden logging me out 'expiring' my Cloud logins multiple times per day?

Earlier this week Playon somehow in error deleted my account, they had it restored a few days later which was great but since then both the 'Windows Playon Cloud Downloader' as well as the 'Playon Cloud App for Android' both 'expire' my login and log me off automatically multiple times per day, this was never happening before with either application. I've asked Playon support what is going on and how to resolve it but nothing back yet. In the meantime, the Downloader is nearly useless since it logs me out of Cloud and never downloads the complete Cloud queue of recordings requiring me to again login then wait and wait for the downloads. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

2023.09.04 07:13 kevint1964 Question regarding Hulu DVR recordings

I have a bunch of recordings saved on my Hulu DVR. Some are getting close to the 9 month point where they will be automatically deleted, & also one-time broadcasts that won't be rerun or available on demand. I'm looking to find a way to save these before Hulu deletes them. Does PlayOn provide the ability to save/download recordings stored in my Hulu DVR or on demand titles, or does it work only for live channel streams? I've looked at various sources online, but can't find anything that addresses this.
Any help appreciated, including if someone knows of other download streaming tools/sites that might have what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

2023.08.21 00:23 this_is_me_it_is PlayOn Cloud Downloader Horrible

Why does the PlayOn Cloud downloader for PC logout automatically? Multiple times per day it says "Login period is expired." So it stops downloading and then I have to login again. Over and over. Every day. It's works, but basically useless.

2023.07.14 16:27 jensenholmes450 PlayOn Cloud - 1080p recording quality not great

I've used PlayOn Home for many years. It's been a staple for me. The other day, I was wondering if I could up the 720p output to 1080p and went to check the site. I learned that you can only get 720p with PlayOn Home but you *can* get 1080p with PlayOn Cloud. When I was done rolling my eyes, I bit the bullet and decided to try their subscription service. Hey, if it meant better quality videos, I was willing to pay. I bought a year's license to PlayOn Cloud and a 350 credits "on sale". It was around $80.
I love being able to queue up recordings on my phone with PlayOn Cloud, and I love the fact that the recordings are happening somewhere in the cloud and not on my media computer. Great! But when I downloaded the first few movies and looked at them, the quality, frankly, was subpar. They look soft and fuzzy or blurry at times, like a low-grade recording. They are not the quality even of the 720p videos recorded with PlayOn Home.
I did a search and found this forum. Apparently this is an old issue since others have posted about it. I wish I'd known before I spent $80.
I don't get it. If you are an app that records streaming video, you have ONE JOB. That's to record streaming content in as high a quality as possible. Honestly, why would I want to watch these recordings when I can just turn on Amazon and stream the same thing and it looks a lot better? Or why would I want to hang on recordings of poor quality?
Granted, I am used to blu ray and 4K, so my standards on what is "clear" and of "good quality" are high, but these videos are visibly soft and fuzzy. These were recorded off Amazon, by the way.
The last posts I found about this issue were dated 2022, so I'm wondering if this has supposedly gotten better? I noticed a few videos I recorded overnight seem much better, sharper than ones I recorded yesterday morning and afternoon. Does time of day matter? Any suggestions from other PlayOn Cloud users would help. At this point, I'm ready to email PlayOn and request they cancel my Cloud account and refund me and just stick with PlayOn Home.
