Welcome to Day 43 of WiyHat?. Today's topic is "Renko Usami", a University student studying the Super Unified Theory in the future "Outside World" Kyoto.
She's well known for being Maribel Hearn's close friend, being part of the Secret Sealing Club (SSC), and having some sort of connection to Sumireko Usami.
First, let's briefly recap her and Maribel's relationship: while Renko prefers to see thing objectively, Maribel believes subjectivity is actually more true or "real". Both of them are interested in the paranormal, however, so they actually see eye-to-eye more than expected. Their goal, as part of the SSC, is to investigate the possibility of "other worlds", which puts them on the trail to find Gensokyo, essentially.
Over the various Hifuu Albums (There's 11 released so far), they go through various short stories. While Renko has the superb ability to tell the exact time by looking at the stars^\1) and exact location by looking at the moon, Maribel has the edge on her when it comes to visiting Gensokyo: she has the ability to see "boundaries", and can outright travel into other worlds in her dreams.
^\1 In JST time only, specifically. So if she was in a PST timezone, she'd have to recalculate from the time she "sees" to get the actual time of the timezone she's in.)
Now, this is gonna be breaking my usual style, but I'm actually gonna delve into the fan reception of Renko before being done with the canon. This is because I want to point out right now that Renko's placement in the popularity poll is 41st, pretty good for a character that has only ever been in the Outside World. Meanwhile, Maribel, who seems to be the far more important character between the two because of her ability, is 54th. This 13 rank difference doesn't seem like that big of a deal...but Maribel was in 60th the year before, and if you compare those placements (Renko was 41st in 2022 as well), then the nearly 20 ranks of difference becomes a good deal more staggering for a pair of characters almost never separated.
Renko's much more likeable than Maribel despite being seemingly less important and less often depicted as sexy by fans (^{Maribel is often theorized as being Yukari, a character often drawn as very sexy, so fan artists often use that excuse that Maribel has to be a good deal sexy too, although not usually as much}). How could this be?
Well, my personal theory is that it's because Renko's a great audience surrogate in the stories she participates in: she's the proactive one who deals with the aftermath of whatever happened (if anything) to Merry^\2), who observes and describes the experience, or just plain is a great friend when she's not the POV character.
And this goes not just for canon works, but also fanworks: take the PHANTOM REPORT fan movie, a semi-parody of western films from the 2000's onward. Renko's basically the main character there, and her reacting to the nonsense as it unfolds feels far more relatable to most people than Merry's character portrayal.
^\2 I don't want to make it sound like Merry is completely free of agency, but she ends up getting into trouble quite a few times and having difficulty "getting out of it" by herself. This is because she's the one who is usually "tasked" with doing "on-site investigations", while Renko searches for new materials.)
Essentially, what I want to get to here is that the reason Renko's probably more popular then Merry is that she feels more like a main character than her.
Well, either that, or her hat's just that much nicer. ^{I'm also open to other theories as to why Renko's more popular too, I don't claim to be absolutely right on this.}
Anyway, moving back to canon, I figured I'd cover what Renko does in the most recent story of Hifuu, though I will paraphrase/skip a few things: She searches for Merry, who she hadn't heard of for 2 weeks, by first ransacking her apartment. There, she finds a book given her a location to find her, strewn with numerous Jizo statues. Frustrated by Merry's ability to enter "otherworlds" with such ease, Renko topples over a statue, and then notices a beam of light protruding out of it. She puts her hand into it despite how strange it is, and after seeing a vision, manages to pull out Merry from the opening. Later, Merry argues with Renko about her manuscript, specifically her passage on otherworlds, on how she apparently claimed they don't exist: Renko then corrects her, saying that what she actually said was that "Matter doesn't exist, even in our world". Merry is so confused at the bold claim, and despite not really agreeing to it, relents and nods. Finally, Merry says she didn't feel like she was gone for 2 weeks, feeling like it had been mere moments, and Renko wonders if Merry really would have come back if she hadn't come for her...
So, given what happened, the "Hifuu story", so to speak, progressed a little bit, but perhaps not as much as some hoped.
What is the story of Hifuu anyway? It feels like the "plot" is that Renko and Merry are eventually going to become permanently separated.
I imagine it is something quite a few people aren't ready for...
Most notably, ZUN, who will likely hold back on doing such a thing as long as he can sell more copies of new CDs.
Regardless, the bottom line is that Renko and Merry's plot is still an ongoing work, and thus who knows, besides ZUN, what the future holds for them?

How to Construct a Rate Idea

• Generally, your idea should consist of 40-60 songs that are bound together by common concepts. These can be shared audience (e.g. depressed British), sound (e.g. psychedelic rock), a specific time period (e.g. 1970s), general popularity (e.g. bubbling under mainstays), or anything else you can think of. The more overlap that your rate has between its songs in these aspects, the stronger the idea is. You can be as creative as you'd like with your combinations, but you need to be able to make the case as to why the songs belong together in a rate.
• The easiest way to find commonalities among songs is by putting 3 or 4 albums together in an idea. However, you can also construct rates with loose songs if you have a strong concept tying them together (this is called a "grab bag" rate.)
• You can also include a "bonus rate" in your idea which are generally leftover tracks that are related to the overarching concept but do not fit in the main rate for whatever reason (e.g. loose singles in between album eras.) Bonus rates are optional to complete at the time of rating and should not be included in an idea without strong justification for it.
• Be mindful of the length of your idea; do not include more songs for the sake of it. The average rate should be less than 3 hours long with the bonus rate included, and rates over 4 hours long are very unlikely to be picked unless they consist of very popular songs. To check how long your rate is, I recommend putting all of the songs in a playlist on your streaming service of choice.
• Albums released in 2024 (including unreleased albums) or MOST albums that have already been rated are ineligible for inclusion in your ideas. Seeing the immense amount of music that got added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from its DLC packs got me wondering: if Pizza Tower were to get added as part of Smash DLC, which songs would make the cut?
Upon looking through the songs added for each DLC fighter, I concluded that a safe number of songs would be 15; not too low like Minecraft (7), nor unrealistically high like SNK (50). I took things like medleys and merged remixes into account to make a song list that covered as many bases as possible while still being believable. What do y’all think of this:

Song #2 is a remixed mashup of Hot Spaghetti, Cold Spaghetti, and There’s a Bone in My Spaghetti! that uses the core melody of all three songs to make a single track that sends all fighters on a mid-match emotional rollercoaster. Alternative names include Blended Spaghetti and The Spaghetti Mixtape.
Song #12 is a medley of stage themes from each of The Slums’ four levels and boss. These include Way of the Pig, On the Rocks, Peppino’s Sauce Machine, Tubular Trash Zone, and Pizza Time Never Ends, which are widely considered the best songs of their respective levels. I didn’t want to leave any of them out, so I figured adding them together as a medley would be a good way to save space, along with paying homage to the floor that gave us Snotty.
The decision to blend songs for #2 and #12 stems from not wanting to leave out too many songs, while still keeping the song list concise. Though the DLC for ARMS and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 technically added 18 songs each, they’re both Nintendo-owned properties, so we shouldn’t expect a 3rd-party game like Pizza Tower to get the same treatment.
Some other songs that would be included in alternative ways include:

• Time for a Smackdown! OR Pizza Deluxe (Reveal trailer theme)
• Victorious Degenerate OR Boss Defeated (Victory theme)
• Receding Hairline Party OR Hip to Be Italian (Classic Mode credits theme)

I posted this in the Graves sub as well so pardon my redundancy. My symptoms align more closely with hyperthyroid Graves but I am looking for any feedback at all as I an in a precarious place with my health!
Background: I have been in a vicious flare cycle for about a year, with things escalating during every new exacerbation. Looking through all the bloodwork I have, I noticed my TSH has been in steady decline for years, from being over 3 to about .65 but when I asked to get levels retested in March, TSH went up to .8 and free T3 and T4 were within normal range. My docs did not press further.
Since then I have seen a neurologist for myasthenia gravis symptoms (ptosis, muscle weakness) and got bloodwork with low complement 4 and mild positive ANA. He referred to rheumatology. At this point I figured I should test thyroid antibodies anyway because I need to catch whatever this is - I am miserable - and know thyroid disease can be associated with my results. My TPO came back at 267 (range 0-34) and TgAB at 1.3 (range 0-.9). All other antibodies for all other autoimmune disease have been negative. I have also treated deficiencies (D and B12) to no avail.
With these labs I am wondering what I should do next. I am going to make an appointment with my PCP cause why wait for rheumatology follow up if he is going to refer me out anyway? Is it possible to have autoimmune thyroid disease with normal hormones? I suspect my TSH will lower again with warm weather but who knows. Are there any tests I should push for? Is treatment at this stage possible? Should I expect pushback on my results? (I have seen a couple sources say “healthy” people can test positive for these antibodies but I certainly don't feel healthy.) Most of my providers don't doubt I have something autoimmune they just don’t know what it is and so far nothing has popped up in labs.

I would like to add some ideas for future updates and/or QoL features

1. Disable animations

I don't want do citicize the animations themselves. I am sure it took time and effort for the animators to come up with and implement them, but after playing for a long time you end up at some point, when you have seen an animation for the hundred millionth time, where it kind of gets boring if not outright annoying. A toggle to disable animations would be a massive QoL feature. Especially for the missions in Beyond where you additionally have to click to finish/activate the animation.

1. Higher tier missions in Beyond

I am at a point where the red dwarf missions have no value anymore whatsoever. I have maxed most of tier one and two objects, but I don't see the benefit of investing any dark matter in upgrading speed and payout anymore since like 99% of progress is made by the last object that has been implemented (here: horsehead nebula). It's been some time that one white dwarf mission was added and I think it's about time to add more or to generate some kiond of incentive to keep upgrading objects even if they don't contribute to the progress anymore.

1. Quest order in Mesozoic valley

Since you essentially have to complete the simulation 500 times, it is super annoying having to scroll up and down all the time when completing the geode quests. Sometimes it's nice and easy when the next quest falls in line with the sequence of dinosaurs in the list, but more often it feels random. Similar to point one, it was nice and refreshing to have some change at the beginning but now it's more annoying than anything.

1. Toggle for growth rate

I would like to have a toggle to always display the growth rate of numbers in value/s. When the speed of an item is not below ~0.2 seconds the growth rate is displayed in value per one cycle. This makes it harder to compare growth rates to efficiently choose where to invest resources. This toggle shouldn't be hard to implement, since the rate in value/s will be displayed eventually anyway and in most events it's like this by default, so why not make it available for the other simulations as well?
Sure, most of these request are not a big deal and you can get by without them, but it's those few additional seconds/clicks that sometimes make me not open the game at all. And I know player retention and gametime are important metrics but in my case, and I think many long time players think similarly, it would make me want to come back more often if I spent less time waiting for animations to end/having to do unnecessary clicks. So even if this might seem counterintuitive, I would probably be spending more time in total by spending less time per one instance of opening the game.

I signed a mortgage contract with CITI Bank a year ago, with a 2-year lock-in period. Now that I’m eligible for a free conversion, I wanted to switch to another 2-year fixed mortgage plan.
From what I’ve learned from friends who recently got new mortgages or converted existing ones, the rates are as follows:

• New mortgages (new clients) get a 2-year fixed rate of about 2.8-2.85% (e.g., UOB, SCB, CITI).
• Conversion of existing mortgages to a 2-year fixed rate is around 2.85-2.9% (e.g., SCB).

However, CITI is offering me a 3.2% rate for the 2-year fixed plan, which is 0.35-0.4% higher than the rates offered by other banks and what CITI offer to new clients.

This seems unfair and feels like existing clients are being penalized. Has anyone else experienced this issue with CITI or any other bank? Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. Is there any way I can early terminate such deal with CITI without paying the penalty ?

Hello fellow undead robots!
I have a small group of friends that I play warhammer with, mostly Combat Patrol until now but some of us have expanded our armies a bit and we can do around 1000 point games now. The problem is, until now I haven't won any game of combat patrol against them, and I would like to turn the situation around when the play the full fledged game. Not saying I need to dominate them but a bit more back and forth and more suspense in the game would be amazing.
I need to clarify it's not necessarily that I think the combat patrol is bad, more that I'm the weak link, and I hope to become a bit more tactical in my play.
Here is my current list of units with some still in transit but should be with me and assembled before our next game day:

It's basically the combat patrol box, LHVs and Immortals I bought at a con for a bit of a discount, and I ordered the royal court and a royal warden from the official GW website as they were not available at any of the resellers in my country and there's basically no second hand market for Warhammer where I live either so that was the only way of getting a plasmancer, which I personally am a fan of and wanted in my unit.
Since we're playing amongst friends proxying from one type of weapon to another for the immortals, warriors or LHVs won't be a problem since I'll just tell them at the start.
What would be the best way to attach units here and general tips and tricks for playing a Necron army? My friends mainly play Tyranids and Orks, and may have another friend that is thinking of starting a Chaos Demons army.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, including what else I could buy to be viable in the future working towards a 2000p army.

I'm going to preface this by saying that my now ex-husband was not only a violent, abusive narcissist but also a serial cheater so when AM was hacked I immediately searched the data and was not surprised to find him listed. So, I understand that people are going to cheat regardless but jesus christ that doesn't mean you have to HELP THEM DO IT. Noel Biderman might be one of the most revolting people I've ever heard speak.
Here's why I'm making this post though - some of these people being interviewed are actively gaslighting us as the audience. Saying "Ashley Madison taught me that the cheater is not the only one to blame."
Yes, they are. YES, THEY ARE. I have no issue with open/poly relationships that are built on communication, honesty and consent - that's not cheating... but when your partner who has sworn to be faithful to you lies to you, goes behind your back and has an affair (emotional or physical) with another person that is your cheating partner's fault and ONLY their fault. Saying otherwise is so damaging for people who have been hurt in this way, especially if we've also been victims of narcissistic abuse.
I'm still in episode one, so maybe the doc will address this - but so far, the irresponsibility of letting that statement go unanswered needed a response.

I get a lot of messages asking about my cancer, so before I get to my story: I highly recommend visiting BCAN.org and asking to be paired up in their survivor to survivor program. Every diagnosis is different and the survivor to survivor program pairs you with someone with similar age, gender, and diagnosis, so you can ask all about their experience. I have enjoyed volunteering with the program and the newly diagnosed that I speak to seem to as well.
My story:
In March of 2020, I was diagnosed with Stage III muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Leading up to that diagnosis I had recurring episodes of extremely painful urination for nearly two years. Not a drop of blood in my urine. The episodes were becoming longer and more frequent. I had urgency and an extreme pain that had me calling out sick from work. It was pure misery and by the time I was diagnosed it was actually a relief.
The test I urge anyone reading this to get is a urine cytology. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. In my experience the urine cytology saved my life. It's a cheap "pee cup" test you can get at any urologist's office. More info here. My easy to remember rhyme is: if it burns when you pee, get a urine cytology.
Up until that test, doctors had been meandering down a path that was not focused on cancer. I was 33 years old (37M now) and due to my young age they didn't consider cancer. I had been in some mountain bike accidents with pelvic trauma so I was misdiagnosed with Pudendal Neuralgia. Symptoms matched but the treatment offered no relief.
I did my urine cytology. 15 minutes later "Atypical cells" led to a bladder scope and I was looking at my tumors in the urologist's office. The tumors were biopsied and I was scheduled for TURBT. This is where my stage III diagnosis was given. I felt immediate relief from the painful urination after tumor removal. The tumors were pressing on my ureters so it felt like kidney stones all the time. We immediately started chemo and my doctors began telling me I would lose my bladder. I did MVAC chemo for four rounds over the summer. This was very intense: what you think about when people say chemo. Lost my hair--gained weight which is not uncommon--and overall felt like shit. After that I was given a few weeks to recover and then had a radical cystectomy with neobladder diversion in August of 2020. This was not an easy decision but the prognosis was best. I tend to trust the data.
SHOUTOUT to my medical team: Dr. Bupathi & Dr. Monticelli of Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers; as well as Dr. Shandra Wilson my urologist and surgeon. Their skills and expertise assuaged all my concerns and made me feel so confident. THANK YOU SO MUCH. For those reading: get a good team; ask lots of questions; and don't be afraid to get multiple opinions. I keep several journals, which help a lot and I'll detail that at the bottom of this post*
Recovery from the neobladder surgery was the hardest part. I had a foley catheter and "grenade" for six weeks or so. My cath bag looked like a bag of red wine due to blood. They walk you around a lot to recover faster. It involved a lot of bed-rest intermixed with short walks. I think I was out of the office for at least a month. I am in generally very good physical shape and even several weeks after this procedure it was hard to walk more than 1/4 mile.
From there I thought I was cancer free. I lead my life with my family**. Here is what saved my life again: Signaterra testing. Dr. Bupathi had these tests scheduled every six weeks. It tracks genetic cancer markers in your blood. The test results look like the stock market except you want it to go down. After several months we noticed it was rising again. We ordered a PET scan, found enlarged lymph nodes, and determined my cancer had returned (or never left). I began a second chemo regiment followed by immunotheraphy (that I just completed yesterday!!!). CisGem chemo was quite difficult. The C in MVAC stands for cisplatin and it's generally one of the hardest drugs to tolerate. After a few difficult rounds we switched to carboplatin and it became much more tolerable. After that I did two years of Bavencio/Avelumab. My Natera test results showed that my cancer had dropped to untraceable levels during chemo, so I effectively beat it before starting the PDL1 inhibitor therapy. However, my team strongly encouraged me to complete the immuno. To me, it felt like putting out a campfire: add water, stir, add water, stir. You gotta make sure it's really gone!
The bavencio PDL1 therapy caused me a lot of mood swings and sometimes caused immune system flare ups (i.e. "immuno flu"). For the physical flare ups I used prednisone, as needed. I tried to do so sparingly as it basically cancels out your treatment. The mood swings were the worst. I would often be despondent and depressed for a few days after treatment. Other times, I'd feel no mood alterations. Most often, I'd be extremely irritable for about a week after treatment (treatments were every two weeks so it was very difficult).
I'm now two years cancer free and beginning my recovery from the immunotherapy treatments. I am so happy to live in an age of modern medicine. Within my lifetime many cancers will become manageable diseases--it appears to me that bladder cancer already has. *Journaling helped me tremendously. I had three journals (google docs). The first was an overall journal detailing my doctor visits. The second was a symptom journal. The third was an insurance journal/spreadsheet. The first journal served almost as a blog, which I shared with close friends and family. That way I didn't have to have the same conversation over and over. It's nice to have family and friends interested, but it does wear at you when you have to tell the same doctor visit over and over to people. This cut down on those discussions and allowed me to have more enjoyable calls with well-wishers. The second journal I would write down daily side effects and 1-10 pain scales. This was extremely important because I could bring it up with doctors and I wouldn't have to remember how I felt, I could look it up. It also helped me understand insidious side effects that take months to reveal themselves. This was the most important journal and kept me sane. There are soooo many side effects and when you start a cancer treatment program you often have no choice-- so why read them? Well this journal would help me understand when something was a side effect. Often just knowing that it wasn't you it was the drug would have a calming effect. The third journal was so I could fight insurance and get what I deserve. Insurance companies try to reduce payouts through exhaustion. They want you to give up. By documenting your experience you give yourself ammunition when you have to escalate a claim or file an appeal. You have everything laid out in an organized manner. You can get it out of your head and onto a spreadsheet so that you don't think about it when you go to bed at night. I had to file appeals several times, sometimes with Colorado Division of Insurance and my record-keeping was a tremendous boon to my case. Don't pay a bill as soon as you get it! Wait until you get the claim record from your insurance company and make sure the number on the bill matches what the insurance company told you to pay. **Neobladders do not have musculature like your normal bladder. I had several very severe bladder infections--a few that led to hospitalization. During the first 18 months or so, I was not catheterizing becuase I was under the impression that my new bladder worked. I peed constantly; however, I was retaining over one liter of urine at all times. This urine kept becoming infected and putting me in miserable situations. Under my urologists advice, I began cathing and immediately felt great. I lost nearly 10 lbs in "water weight" and no longer have any urgency issues. I can sleep through the night, but often will cath around five hours into the night just so I can sleep in later. On average I cath about once every three hours. It's not painful when done correctly. It's honestly just tedious. However, after all of this the only way my life is abnormal now is my cathing. I can swim, climb, play with my son and do any physical activity; it just takes longer to pee now. I'll take that win!

You know the drill when your prof is absent, kukuha na lang ng attendance list para may proof na we're there sa subject niya. One time it happened, and syempre paunahan pumirma para makatambay sa free time. All of us signed and yung president namin ang magbibigay ng list kay prof. The next day, the whole class was called out by a different prof, it was awkward because she had the copy of our attendance list kahit hindi siya yung absent kahapon. IT WAS NOT AN ATTENDANCE LIST, IT WAS A PETITION TO HAVE HER REMOVED IN THE UNIVERSITY. Our president did us bad, she made all of us to sign on that paper without the title "attendance". Saka niya lang nilagay yung title na petition nung nakapirma kaming lahat. Simula nung nangyari yon, wala na kumakausap sa kanya at wala na ring naniniwala sa kanya. She immediately shifted to another course.
