The first mistake is to think that America is a democracy, were not. We are what Jefferson termed a Oligarchy. The purpose of this is to play both extremes against the middle, to polarize, to distract, to divide, to heard the middle/sheep between the 2 great evils the woke vs the fascists where "they" want us to go which is where were headed. Not only on a political or social level but on a national level through the controlling of information which historically has always been the greatest psychological weapon of war. Information is not completely controlled in America, but the information most people are accessing is controlled, from internet search engines, to news, to social media platforms, to entertainment, the greatest psychological weapon is the information Americans are not aware of. The information Americans see from the media, or google or wherever, does not reflect the actual state of politics in America and I hope to demonstrate this with my argument. Lets start from the basics, how did we get here. For you republicans out their who will probably think I am a leftist, I will start by attacking the woke first and why they are so dangerous to our nations principles and Liberty. The woke movement in America has highjacked the original meaning and purpose of the feminist movement. Woke has waged a war on American principles that has caused a reactionary politic in opposition that falsely correlates peoples support for the LGBTQ and tolerance with wokeism. Most the people supporting the LGBTQ are not even aware of what the woke represents or the damage it has done. They perceive this reactionary force namely conservatives as intolerant bigots and yes their is a radical movement on the far right that does represent bigotry's and racism, but like the woke, does not actually reflect the vast majority of conservative Americans. Let me try to demonstrate this fact with just one issue "abortion." The vast majority of Americans support early stage abortions crossing party lines to include conservatives. Two-thirds of Americans say it should be legal in the first trimester 69%. That's roughly 13 weeks. Majorities oppose abortion being legal in the second (55%) and third (70%) trimesters. Again crossing party lines. This according to gallop. In other words most Americans for you democrats out their, are not supportive of the complete abortion bans that the radical right is pushing, and that movement does not reflect the reality of politics for the vast majority of conservatives. The propaganda to divide people, to radicalize, to polarize, to dehumanize and create division is working but its a lie. The vast majority of Americans are concerned about the same issues but see things through different lenses of controlled information, and both sides are being deceived. Back to the woke and what they represent today. The woke have pushed a infinity of political agendas and policies in the name of Equality and Equity that are fundamentally antithetical to freedom. Such as Hiring policies based on race, sexual preference, or gender. Such as University selection based on race, gender or sexual preference. The woke have also targeted children and parents rights, pushing policies to allow kids to make the most consequential decisions they could possibly make, including gender treatments and puberty blockers, at children's most vulnerable and unstable stages of development. without parental oversight or say, in fact trying to imprison parents in California who apposed this after finding out that schools were "educating children" on their rights to make such decisions, again all in the name of rights. But children cannot buy guns, or drugs, or make other consequential decisions, and this is far from the only communist gospel the woke are pushing. They are targeting free expression, that is speech which is not explicitly a threat or call for violence, but labeled offensive. Even rejecting terms like Women to be replaced with "Birthing person." Rejecting terms like rapist or murderer to be replaced with "persons involved in justice." This stuff is sickening to see and Dr. Phil does a good job on this in his book, WE’VE GOT ISSUES. The woke also want to disarm the population, stigmatizing self defense and guns, once a symbol of Liberty and the Inherent natural right to self defense. A people that cannot resist can and will always end in slavery and oppression. “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”― Benjamin Franklin. Those who are willing to sacrifice their liberty for temporary security are ultimately left with neither liberty nor security. Yes I am aware and consider gun violence to be a major issue that must be addressed but I consider shootings and crime, and suicide, and the declining birthrate to be mere symptoms of much greater problems including our predatory crony system, and the kinds of gun control being pushed does violate the constitution. Illinois banned every semi automatic weapon including pistoles basically every gun available. If their is a line between weapons of war and mass death and the second amendment that has not yet been settled, this is a gross violation of the right to self defense. Homicide was the largest single category of gun deaths among children and teens in 2021, accounting for 60% of the total that year. It was followed by suicide at 32% and accidents at 5%. Among U.S. adults, by contrast, suicides accounted for a 55% majority of gun deaths in 2021. A rise by 50 percent in 2 years. That's 3.5 per 100,000 people. This is far from everything the woke are doing but its a basic summary of some of what they are doing, which is antithetical to American Principle that People should be judged, and have opportunity based on merit alone and nothing else. The woke are pushing an equality of outcome at the expense of the rights of others, and Equal opportunity. They are waging a war on fundamental liberties and the Inherent Natural Rights of mankind. I shall now tackle the radical right, which honestly I have done more research on because many of our current issues do go back to the republicans of the 1970s 80's. Back then it was largely democrats representing American principles and a fair system, and human rights. The radical right, and how they have moved away from American principles. 2016 was a turning point in American history. Donald Trumps election shook the very foundations of the Union, beginning with a denial of foreign influence however inconsequential it was, and an assault on American principles. It has become very clear to former Republicans like myself who still admire Lincolns republican party and remain proud Democratic Republicans, that Trump did not challenge any real systemic corruption while in office. In fact Trump embodied the swamp, excepting dark Corporate money in huge sums. Trump successfully dismantled opposition to his rule in the Republican party, and now threatens the nation with another presidency promising vengeance against political opposition. Trump preaches hate and intolerance rarely seen in American politics, calling his opposition vermin, and embracing Marxist Leninist critical race theory, saying that immigrants are "poisoning the blood" of our nation. Something the republicans of yesterday, Condemned vehemently in support of a colorblind society. The American principle to judge people based on merit alone. Instead of Peace through Strength, Trump would go on to surrender US bases in Syria to Putin's troops, allowing Putin to further consolidate his support of dictator Assad. Trump would move the US embassy to Jerusalem ultimately taking sides in the Israel Palestine dispute, certainly contributing to the Israel Hamas war. Trump surrendered a stable Afghanistan which for the first time had basic human rights and liberty, education and opportunity. He threatened to withdraw from NATO, and other allies including South Korea, Poland and others. Trump gave North Korea international recognition in exchange for a photo, arguably the most repressive system on earth. He publicly declared Americas men and women in uniform liars, stating that dictator Putin was "Extremely Strong and powerful in his denial" after US intelligence exposed Russia's systematic interference in our democratic process. Trumps covid policies hollowed out the middle class. Trumps deregulation further crippled the governments ability to challenge Corporate power, and the corporate stranglehold and impoverishment of our Republic. Today every sector of the US economy is monopoly mirroring the very system which caused the American revolution, Corporations and State. Trumps presidency was a wakeup call to the nation, reminding Americans of the dangers that not only led to the misguided 2016 election of Donald Trump, but superseded his election by creating the dangers and problems associated with crony capitalism and corporate oligarchy. Like the 1920s and what many Americans called "the Republican Great depression" today we face once again the same dangers of Monopoly and corporate domination. Republicans once again embody Corporations and State. If elected republicans are promising to enshrine right wing fascism, Church and State, Corporations and State, into the fabric of the nation. The Republican party of today began the processes which lead to the financial corruption of politics and the sale of our nations independence, the destruction of localized vibrant economies. Starting in the 1970s. Today Corporate monopolies dominate the nation, and while hard working Americans struggle with the incredible burden of taxation, stagnant wages, corruption in politics, a health crisis caused not only by deregulation and corporate capture, but by monopolies dominating medical treatment and healthcare. Robber barons live in wealth and luxury in a system designed to Rob Americans of the fruits of their labor, robbing the nation of growth, innovation, competition, and "the Great Prosperity." In fact "Greed inflation" is at an all time high, Americans are ripped off and impoverished because their is no competition. In a Real Democratic Republic ensuring Equal Opportunity, Americans would have the highest quality products at the lowest cost. Individual Success would be a choice of labor and merit. History has already demonstrated this fact. Beginning with the American revolution, which contrary to the corporate propaganda in our broken education system, was not caused by taxation, their has been a constant struggle for Equal Opportunity that is reemerging today among disgruntled Americans who have been left behind and failed by the current corrupt predatory system. Trump is not the cause of Americas corruption or decline, that is what got him elected, the promise to uproot the corruption. It had an appeal to many Americans at the time including myself, and only later on did I become the critic of Trump that I am now.

This debate over classical Economics goes back to the beginning of economic theory, and our understanding of economics and scientists like Adam Smith. An important note I want to make is that the democratic republicans of the time rejected some of Adam Smiths classical economics and his invisible hand. They understood that in such systems, corporations have an infinity of levers to artificially manipulate the market, to increase profits and what they called "milking the population for every penny." The results they demonstrated, were always the centralization of wealth and power into a corporate monopoly and Oligarchy. Also the conditions this created they argued, leads to population declines and other major problems and declines. Again all of this debate happened prior to the American revolution but apart of the movement and politics which later encompassed what became the American nation based on Democratic Republican principles. Some of the Democratic Republicans in America were Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, George Mason, James Monroe and many others. They apposed the Aristocratic republicans. The "Boston Tea Party" was a rebellion against Corporations and State. Today Republicans champion the same policies and system which caused The Boston Tea Party, granting tax breaks to and subsidizing large corporations which now fund and control the Republican party. This caused the death of localized vibrant economies bringing corporate chain stores, and killing small businesses, and competition. It hollowed out our manufacturing power, as these same corporations moved their business abroad for cheap slave labor, partnering with tyrannical governments willing to do corporate friendly business at the expense of their own nations and people. Then selling those cheap products to Americans at higher and ever increasing monopoly pricing. Today America is monopolized and faces a concentration of power unlike anything the world has ever seen. Before the 80s no company could purchase a competitor if it meant controlling more then 4% of a product. As a result of "the Powell Memo" which called on corporations to actively involve themselves in politics, followed by corrupt right wing supreme court justices who started this process, by ruling that, money is speech in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, dismantling The Tillman Act of 1907, and allowing corporations to fund politics. Since then Corporations have been funding politics and righting legislation, from the Supreme Court, to the congress, to the presidency, to government institutions like the FDA which are supposed to regulate their profiteers. Worse yet monopolies have gobbled up local economies and centralized every industry in America in the name of lower prices and deregulation. Today only a few big corporations control every industry in the United States. The top 1% of families captured 58% of total real income growth per family from 2009 to 2014. For 40 years prior to Reaganomics the wealth of middle class Americans was increasing faster than the top 1 percent, faster than executive’s although they did just fine. Since then, where we had wide celebrated diversity in every industry like beer brewing for example, Milwaukee's finest and you had to smuggle cores light out of Colorado. Today we have instead 2 corporations that produce over 90% of all the beer consumed in the United States. While South Koreans get internet speeds 200 times faster and far more reliable than what most Americans get, paying only 27$ a month. Americans pay an average of 90$ a month, Europeans pay an average of 19$ a month and the speeds are faster and more reliable and unlimited. The European Union has taken an active role in crushing monopolies. In the US just 1 company Comcast controls over 50 percent of the market. On Wall Street, the 20 biggest banks own assets equivalent to 84% of the United States entire gross domestic product. Just 12 of those banks own 70% of all banking assets. That means if those 12 banks collapse, the entire system collapses. Just 4 companies control 90% of the grain trade. 3 companies control 70% of the American beef industry. Just 4 companies control 58 percent of the U.S. pork and chicken producing processes. In retail Walmart controls 1/4 of the entire US grocery market. 4 companies produce 75% of our breakfast cereal, 75% of all snack foods, 60% of all cookies, and half of all the ice cream sold in supermarkets around the nation. In health insurance just 4 companies control 3/4 of the entire health insurance market. In 38 states just 2 ensures control 58% of the market. In 15 states just 1 insurer controls over 60% of the market. In the cellular phone market just 4 companies control 89% of the market. Capitalism does work for the average American and small businesses, but only when the rules are set that way. Rig those rules to give disproportionate power to the very wealthy and we have what Franklin Roosevelt called fascism.

What’s the process for cutting the cord
So I’m trying to help my family cut the cord from Xfinity.
Planning on switching to DirecTV stream, and also switching from Xfinity internet to ATT Fiber. Because our internet isn’t very good for all of us to be watching + computer usage, etc.
Mainly switching to DirecTV because of Bally Sports leaving Comcast. FuboTV was an option because they have it, but don’t have CNN, TNT, etc.
Wanna know what’s the process now as I’m trying to help my family do this. Call up Xfinity? Call up DirecTV?
Also, if there’s any other input like if I should get Roku, Firestick, the DirecTV stream box, etc. Or any other streaming services I should consider.

Comcast has been the only option for broadband in my area (between Leola and Lancaster city) for over a decade. Therefore, as to be expected of comcast and their regional monopoly, the cost was expensive and the speed and infrastructure upgrades have seemed to come at the pace of existing hardware failing or running out of support. Thus forcing an upgrade.
Now, in the past month, with the impending rollout of Glofiber which is offering competitive prices and better speeds, comcast has rushed a bunch of hack installers to "upgrade" their network ahead of the Glofiber rollout. These guys showed up in my back yard unannounced, under tooled, and with zero regard for customer property. I have a magnolia tree on my property that is under the utility line. Prior to this event, I have never seen anyone attempt to climb that tree, not PPL, not the phone company, not even comcast (because, prior to this, the had at least brought the right gear for the job). People don't climb it because it's more of a bush than a tree and climbing it will damage it... Well, that did not stop these budget install techs, the strapped on their climbing spurs, scarred by tree, and broke off whatever branch was in their way. Idiots. Then, as they were installing the new cable/fiber they were using wire to attach the new cable to the existing cables. Think they cleaned up after themselves? Nope. Just chop and drop. I am up to eight pieces of wire that needed to be picked up from my yard. I pulled a piece out of the spokes of my sons dirt bike, I unwound a piece that got wrapped around my 2yr old's leg, and I stepped on one. The rest we, fortunately, noticed laying under the utility line and picked them up. Truthfully, it really just does seem to be an extension of the apparent comcast corporate culture of disdain for their customers.
Now, I am not sure what to expect from Glofiber... But what I do know is that a gentleman just stopped by with a door hanger notice that they will be coming through to install the new fiber. He also spoke with my wife and let her know that they will notify us on the day they will come through our property and be sure to clean up/repair anything left from the install.
If the rest of the experience working with Glofiber is like this, I can't wait for their service to come through. I'll be ditching comcast asap. ASAP.

Hello, I have ordered Xfinity service and the chat rep said Comcast self install was available at our location since it was active here 3 years ago. The modem should arrive today.
However, looking more closely at the ATT modem, it is not connected via coaxial cable, but rather a green "dsl/broadband" line that looks similar to a phone line.
Am I going to be able to connect the Xfinity modem this way? Or is this a proprietary connection?
Should I schedule a tech to come out?

I have my own T25 modem that requires a 'reboot' rather often. I don't understand that for starters unless Comcast/Xfinity have service issues in my area. Is there a way to request a 'reboot' using the mobile app vs a trip to the modem that's 2 floors down from living area? Is there maybe a firmware update that I haven't received because I own the modem?
I'd certainty appreciate a discussion.

So, I've been researching, reading, comparing reviews, etc on the best brands for home network devices, namely a switch, router and access points. And... it's so confusing.
I know it depends on the situation, the knowledge and effort someone is willing to put in, security, China, blah blah blah.
But can someone simply point out a brand order, even if it's your opinion I'd love to hear WHY because most don't explain.
Cisco, Mikrotik, Ruckus, Aruba, TP Link, Netgear, Google, Ubiquiti, DLink, the list goes on. What is the 'top dog' or the big 3 that come to mind? I want to get in and play and learn. I want something 'prosumer' level, not basic Best Buy solutions. Not looking to run a server farm. But not looking to use the basic Comcast/Xfinity modem/router solution. I'm interested in quality. Kind of a Mercedes vs Ford thing. Again, subjective, opinions, I get it and the 'ford version' serves 90% of home users. But if someone wanted a mid to high end prosumer, none cloud hosted solution what hardware would you recommend and why. What brands would you stay away from and why. If there is a wholistic list I've missed somewhere that specifies this please let me know.

I would love to get xfinity set up as it seems like the de facto isp in our new area (moved from TX to CO). We both work from home and have kids so our average weekly data usage is about 175GB using what the current ATT app says. I’m not sure what download/upload speeds we truly need but we’re accustomed to fiber, which I know isn’t available up there. We’re also used to sub $50 a month for that which is really making the swap to Comcast a jump and a skip in the wrong direction both for price and speed. Is there any special rate or anything for one of the faster packages that would make our transition to a new service more seamless from a budget and performance perspective?

So I have an install coming this weekend. I currently have Xfinity (Comcast) 1 gig internet which provides about 950 mb download / 35-40 mb upload. I am purchasing 2gig fiber from ATT.
Is there anything I should insure my installer does or doesn’t do during the install this weekend?
I’d like to remove the Xfinity cabling and have the fiber run through the same hole, which is through concrete.
I appreciate any assistance provided, as networking is not my expertise. After fiber is installed, I am looking to pay someone to run ether into the other 2 main areas of the 1700 sq ft home via cat6 or 6a

I abhor Amazon. I'm writing this anecdote of how Amazon closed my account with a gift card balance, and ideas on where I went wrong. Talking about what doesn't work can be helpful for us as a whole. If this is obvious info, disregard.
My privacy level is low. I don't VPN 24/7, I don't aim to be anonymous, and so on. My goal: purchasing small items without being directly linked to my identity. I don't obscure my location from Amazon and its sellers: only my identity, address, payment information. Amazon is for small shippable items, not heavy or expensive items.
I'm a tech professional and know about common risk management techniques, browser fingerprinting, anomaly detection.
How the account was suspended:

1. I created a new Amazon account from my home. Comcast/xfinity IP address. Linux. Firefox. I browse with third-party cookies disabled at all times. uBlock origin. Amazon ad and marketing sites blocked. Email address on my own domain.
   
2. First sign that Amazon didn't like me: they required a mobile phone number. Verified it with my Google Voice number that I use for all nonpersonal interactions.
   
3. Second sign that Amazon didn't like me: I got the Arkose challenge (bot test, what they call a game).
   
4. I bought a $30 gift card with cash from the grocery store less than a mile from my home the next day. Redeemed successfully.
   
5. A week later I tried to buy something with a cost of $13.99, that I selected to ship to a local Amazon locker.
   
6. Order was successful...for 10 minutes.
   
7. Immediately followed by account on hold automated email. Logging in requires uploading billing information and gift card purchase documentation.
   
8. I uploaded pics of the gift card and its receipt.
   
9. Automated email response of we still couldn't verify information.
   
10. I sent it again, different angle and closer pic.
    
11. Again, we still couldn't verify the payment method.
    
12. Sent again, this time I held a post-it note next to the receipt showing my account email address and the date.
    
13. Final email: "we must close your account." Logging in no longer presents a form, only a message with: your account is closed.
    

My analysis of where I went wrong:

1. Amazon does not like Linux devices with Firefox enhanced tracking, since nothing else about my device or its location was unusual or anomalous (residential ip, ip location vs timezone vs browser language).
   
2. Amazon may have allowed my Google Voice number to go through but may have still marked it as higher in risk.
   
3. I tried to order way too soon after creating the account (1 week), or way too soon after redeeming the gift card (right before order), or both.
   
4. Amazon has a dark pattern where you'll add items to the cart that should be able to covered by the gift card, for example with free shipping. However, shipping cannot be selected until after payment information is supplied. They also do not show the tax charges when asking for payment info. This means if your cart is $25 and a $30 gift card balance, they won't let you continue without adding another payment method (because shipping and tax costs would exceed $30). This means the gift card balance needs to exceed (cart total + standard shipping costs + tax) in order to only use the gift card balance.
   
5. Meaning, only using the gift card balance is likely another flag, for reasons I'll explain later. The normal thing to do would have been to add a credit card or bank account tied to your identity.
   
6. Shipping to an Amazon locker is likely a red flag, considering the above.
   
7. Even if you'll ship to a locker, not having any address in the account is probably a red flag.
   
8. When they want you to prove ownership of the gift card, it's false. What they really want proof of is: payment method being tied to an identity. Considering I gave them exactly what they wanted (pictures), it's my hypothesis that ANY information submitted to their form will do NOTHING if it can't be tied to a payment method that is linked to an identity.
   
9. The "prove ownership" form is nothing but risk management data collection for risk mining, and likely is not reviewed by a person. They even have a text box: "anything else we should know?"). Don't fall for it, think: "anything you say can and will be used against you." People have provided billing statements, utility bills, government ID and still not gotten their accounts back.
   
10. Therefore if the gift card was purchased with cash and the account is on hold, there is little chance of getting the account, or the balance back. I've yet to see any instances of an account getting reinstated with gift card flagging, with the limited searching I've done.
    
11. If you call customer service over the phone, their script tells them to tell us our account hold will be removed after 24 hours. It's a script to get you to feel helped, and to hang up. They'll tell you to email cs-reply at amazon dot com, but this just restarts the automated email messages, and logging in the account will still say it's closed instead of allowing providing new information.
    

Some people may have gotten their accounts back by being extremely annoying. But me, with an account age less than one month with $30 stolen from me, I'll take the loss and learn from it, but provide this publicly to help other people! I'm not wasting any more time on Amazon.
If I were to try again, here's what I'd try, knowing that it may be iterative until something works:

1. Use a de-privafied profile just for Amazon. Enable third-party cookies, disabled enhanced tracking, disable uBlock. Disable clearing of cookies.
   
2. My home ip never saw or visited www.amazon.com before the account. The ip may be "too clean" that it's suspicious. So perhaps I'd visit www.amazon.com more on my home ip, or go to Starbucks where people likely browse amazon and purchase from it.
   
3. I would not even try to use a gift card IF Amazon required a mobile number or presented the browser with the Arkose bot test upon account signup. Just try creating another account.
   
4. I would use gmail instead of my own domain.
   
5. I would immediately add an address to the account, even though I'll never use it.
   
6. I would buy the gift card and space out the redemption. Keep the receipt, though I doubt it means much if you're challenged.
   
7. I would space out gift card redemption and order placing.
   
8. If it came to it, I would put a Privacy.com card on file, with chosen alias billing information. I would not use this for orders; just have it on the account. Test transactions should fall off and not be permanent if Amazon does that when adding a credit card.
   
9. My first orders would not be shippable items.
   
10. The moment of truth - getting items shipped to a locker - I'd make sure the locker was still in the vicinity of my location.
    
11. If the account gets placed on hold, I would try to get it unheld, but expect the worst (gift card balance stolen by Amazon). I would never have a sizable gift card balance until the account has aged and orders have been successful. And I'd still worry!
    

Hopefully this helps others who abhor Amazon but might need to order small items shipped to a locker with a gift card. Please comment with any good or bad responses to what I've written!

Hey all, posted this over in pfsense but thought I'd ask here too.
FINALLY got to ditch comcast and picked up 2/2 symmetrical service from ATT. The installation is totally fine up until the modem - speed tests in the modem diagnostics (and my laptop connected to the 5Gb port) all show 2400/2400. Sweet!
Here comes the problem: I put the device into passthrough mode (dhcps-fixed with my pfsense mac address) and pfsense acquires the public IP just fine. Disabled all firewall and packet filtering options in the ATT modem. Turned off SSIDs.
But my speeds are all over the place downstream of the pfsense router, usually <1/1... more in the neighborhood of 800/800. Every now and again I can get like 2000/1000 during a speed test, but it's really sporadic.
My pfsense box is an HPT730 with a Mellanox ConnectX3, connected with a DAC to a Qnap 10/2.5gbe switch. An RJ-45 SFP (QSPFTek 10GBase-T SFP+) connects to the ConnectX3 connects to the 5Gb port on the modem. This setup worked flawlessly with my Xfinity setup (getting 1300-1400 down solidly for years)
I've upgraded pfsense to the latest version, and played with all sorts of flow control and tuning settings to nothing being a reliable fix. Every now and again I'll get a nice download speed test (~2Gb/s), then it'll tank <1Gb/s again. Again, hooked directly into the modem and bypassing pfsense my speeds are totally fine.
So I guess my question is - does anyone have a similar setup or funkiness with the BGW320-505 in passthrough mode? At this point I'm still thinking it's my legacy pfsense hardware (ConnectX3 with firmware from 2014...) not playing nice with the 5Gb port on the BGW320-505, as I can plug my laptop into that port and get solid 2400/2400 speeds. I'm probably going to re-build the pfsense box with more modern hardware to see if it yields any results.
EDIT: For anyone finding this in the future via Google, the issue seems to be with how the BGW320-500 (and 505) utilize flow-control on the 5Gb port, and how it interacts with the NIC on your router. Enabling/disabling flow control made little difference for me though. What this means for you is that the 10GBASE-T SFP+ you use on the router end matters - the Mikrotik SFP S+RJ10 SEEMS to work best (particularly for the UDM PRO), but I'm still not getting full capacity on my ConnectX3 with pfsense 2.7.2. Ultimately, I upgraded (or, side-graded) the connectX3 to an X550-T2 (bought a genuine X550T2BLK off eBay and upgraded the firmware) and I'm now getting full line speeds each way. What a pain. AT&T loves advertising great symmetrical speeds then gimps you at every chance if you choose not to use only their modem!

Recently switched my service provider to Xfinity, and while downloading I received a DMCA email from them. I realized that I had my NordVPN turned off (Helldivers 2 has been having issues with lobbies if I'm connected), so I put qbittorrent on the list of apps included in the killswitch, and thought all was good. Tried a torrent a week later, everything connected, and received another nastygram from Xfinity. Is this because I was connected to a US server through Nord and could get around it by being connected elsewhere, or am I just SOL using Xfinity?

We have Wifi speeds over 1gb with Comcast Xfinity (highest speed provider available to us) and want to have create a mesh wifi network for our home since the xFi Gateway provided by Comcast is mediocre at best (we get it for free with our plan) and doesn't give good coverage to a lot of rooms in our house (just by going downstairs signal drops to 25-150mbps). But, most of the Wifi 6E options for creating a home mesh wifi network only have 1 multigig port, meaning that if we wire backhauled the satellites from the main router, only the main router would have speeds over a gigabit.
Since the xFi Gateway acts as both a modem and a router we will be keeping it and putting it in bridge mode, but are we able to put route out of one of the 2.5gb ports on the xFi and run ethernet cables from that into the main node and the satellites? Or does the ethernet have to come directly from the main node? Options like the ASUS ET12 like have 2+ multigig ports are significantly more expensive and not really in our budget. If that doesn't work, would we be able to just get one ET12 with the WAN port coming from the xFi and the LAN multigig port running into a 2.5gb bridge that runs into ASUS ET8's and wall outlets for things like computers/TVs? Also, with the bridges, is the 2.5gb divided between all the connections or do all the connections equally have a 2.5gb signal?

I think, but don't know for sure or how to know, that every Ethernet cable is cat5 at least.
My question: I pay for "up to 800mbps" but on WiFi i get 200-300 using Google's speed tester in off-hours (like noon) and then I get like 30-50mbps in prime hours (6pm+). I imagine Xfinity is throttling me and everyone else in prime hours but I'm guessing.
Is something in this chain limiting me from getting real 800mpbs? Should I ditch the Orbi for Ubiquiti 7? I don't know anything about mesh vs other methods but recently was recommended Ubiquiti by a Ubiquiti truther. But I couldn't tell you why it's better or worse.
The Xbox has to have Ethernet or it lags in online play. Sometimes stream drop picture quality.

I've used ATT since I moved to my current location in 2015. They don't offer Fiber here (near Coddingtown) so I'm currently at 50 mbps for $80 a month.
I've learned that Xfinity does offer Fiber, but the prices are so much cheaper that I'm suspicious that there's going to be a huge catch if I switch to them. It's really hard to get straight answers from these companies and information I've found online seems to really vary from location to location.
Can anyone tell me what their experience has been with Xfinity, especially if you've used ATT here as well?
I do a bit of gaming and a decent amount of art so I'm often downloading large files (and uploading them for backups) and the ATT speed is really killing me. I do use an ethernet cable for my PC, if that makes a difference. Other than the speeds being so slow, I haven't had too many issues with my connection in the last few years. I rarely have issues with it dropping or randomly lagging which was something I dealt with a lot when I had Xfinity, but that was like 10 years ago.
I've been waiting for years for them to bring in Fiber so I can switch to Sonic but that seems like a distant dream at this point :')

I've been having the same issue for over a year now. Billing site does not load. Sometimes it takes days of trying until I'm able to pay my bill using every browser know to man. I've called and talked with higher ups, spending an entire day on the phone mind you, with no results to show other than being told to, "call and pay over the phone."
Same issue again this month. I sign into xfinity and click "Bill Pay" and am taken to a white page that never loads anything even if it's left open for hours.
I hope we see a class action lawsuit against this apathetic and irresponsible behavior from Comcast. I would love to provide details surrounding this unfair, malicious treatment, and excessive hardship being created by Comcast.
As free citizens of the United States we should never tolerate this behavior from any corporation. This ongoing issue is a result of greed and malice on the part of Comcast vs it's customers and is unacceptable.
On a macro scale Comcast is effectively depressing the economic footprint of citizens of the United States that is reminiscent of adversarial foreign actors influence. This activity should be investigated by The Department of Homeland Security, Congress, and all state legislatures across the country. I pray it is, as the proliferation of such practices, untethered from Constitutional law, threatens collective sovereignty and individual rights.
I hope to see this resolved in the court of law and Comcast held accountable for this unjust behavior.

Since local system "upgrades" in my community and a recent outage that lasted most of the day yesterday my upload speeds have been stuck at 12 vs the 20/25 they are supposed to be. My modem also shows in the xfinity app that it is offline, yet I have internet connectivity. When comcast phone support tried to connect to my modem they could ping it and said a good signal was present (this was a local/US person, not contracted overseas tech support). Is the app still broken and useless? I can't run speed tests from my app since it doesn't show the modem as working.
Everything worked fine until the outage and "upgrades" so I don't know what is going on here. This is a midsplit area/update. I have a netgear, personally owned, CM1000v2 firmware v10.01.07 hardware 2.02. My gut tells me the upgrade isn't really an upgrade since my download speeds and upload speeds remained the same prior to the system being updated.
I had a worker call me from xfinity with a strong new england accent that hardly let me get a word in and was really defensive about the upgrades and sort of shamed me for having my own hardware, that was less than pleasant. I initially had a tech visit scheduled for this afternoon but I'm tired of dealing with the issue this week so cancelled it. I'll see what happens over the weekend before scheduling another visit. The man I spoke with today was off-putting enough that it really soured my experience with tech support. I think he was trying to be helpful but he was a knowitall and wanted to control the conversation/narrative. He also said netgear could push an update to the modem but since it was customer owned xfinity wouldn't, that seems sus to me.

So I have a previous tenant that is holding my apartment that I moved into hostage for a better deal at their new place in a completely different state. AT&T is unwilling to do anything for me and I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to help me in anyway - which they still haven't. It's been a week and they are unwilling to get someone out to me until another week or two which amounts to almost a month of no Internet which I need for work. I've talked to Comcast and I'm able to get Internet right away with $15 a month less with a lot of their fees taken off to accommodate me. I'm really close to considering cancelling. The caveat is I had to be reasonably upset with AT&T with their handling of all this to get 2 months free which I asked for. Again fighting with them for a week so far and I'm almost about say this isn't worth all the hassle. I don't know what to do. It's not like they gave me a discounted monthly price or anything. Xfinity's $50 a month vs AT&Ts $65 a month with a month off rewards card.
