Real Madrid vs. Villarreal: A Comprehensive Prediction for May 19, 2024

Introduction

Ladies and gentlemen, football aficionados, and those who just stumbled upon this article while looking for cat videos, welcome to the ultimate showdown analysis between Real Madrid and Villarreal. Scheduled for May 19, 2024, this La Liga clash promises to be a spectacle of skill, strategy, and perhaps a bit of drama. So, grab your popcorn, sit back, and let's dive into the nitty-gritty of what could be a defining match of the season.

The Teams: A Brief Overview

Real Madrid

Real Madrid, the Galácticos, the team that has more silverware than your grandma's china cabinet, is coming into this match with a lot of expectations. Known for their attacking prowess and a midfield that can control the game like a puppeteer, Real Madrid is a force to be reckoned with.

Villarreal

On the other side, we have Villarreal, the Yellow Submarine. While they might not have the same star-studded lineup as Real Madrid, they are known for their resilience and tactical acumen. Villarreal has a knack for punching above their weight, and they will be looking to make a statement in this match.

The Odds: What the Bookmakers Say

Let's talk numbers, shall we? According to the latest odds from FanDuel and DraftKings, Real Madrid is the favorite to win this match. FanDuel has Real Madrid at 1.87, while DraftKings offers a slightly better price at 1.91. Villarreal, on the other hand, is priced at 3.5 on FanDuel and 3.25 on DraftKings. The odds for a draw are 4.0 on FanDuel and 3.85 on DraftKings.

What Do These Odds Mean?

In layman's terms, the bookmakers are giving Real Madrid a higher probability of winning this match. The lower the odds, the higher the probability, and vice versa. So, if you're a betting person, putting your money on Real Madrid seems like the safer bet. But hey, football is a funny old game, and anything can happen.

Head-to-Head: Historical Context

When it comes to head-to-head encounters, Real Madrid has had the upper hand. In their last ten meetings, Real Madrid has won six times, Villarreal has won twice, and there have been two draws. This historical dominance adds another layer of confidence for Real Madrid going into this match.

Player Statistics: The Key Men

Real Madrid

Karim Benzema

The French maestro, Karim Benzema, has been in scintillating form this season. With 20 goals and 10 assists in La Liga, he is the linchpin of Real Madrid's attack. His ability to link up play and find the back of the net makes him a constant threat.

Luka Modrić

The Croatian wizard, Luka Modrić, continues to defy age with his performances. With a pass completion rate of 89% and an average of 2 key passes per game, Modrić is the engine that keeps Real Madrid ticking.

Villarreal

Gerard Moreno

Villarreal's talisman, Gerard Moreno, has been their go-to man for goals. With 15 goals and 7 assists, he is the player Real Madrid's defense will need to keep an eye on.

Pau Torres

At the back, Pau Torres has been a rock for Villarreal. With an average of 3 interceptions and 5 clearances per game, he will be crucial in keeping Real Madrid's attack at bay.

Tactical Analysis

Real Madrid

Real Madrid is likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Benzema leading the line. The midfield trio of Modrić, Kroos, and Casemiro will look to control the game, while the full-backs, Carvajal and Mendy, will provide width.

Villarreal

Villarreal, under Unai Emery, is expected to set up in a 4-4-2 formation. They will look to soak up pressure and hit Real Madrid on the counter. The midfield duo of Parejo and Capoue will be tasked with breaking up play and launching quick transitions.

Weather Conditions

The weather forecast for May 19, 2024, in Madrid is expected to be clear with temperatures around 25°C (77°F). Perfect football weather, if you ask me. No excuses for a poor performance from either side.

The Prediction

Drumroll, please! After considering the odds, player statistics, historical context, and tactical setups, it's time to make a prediction. Real Madrid, with their superior squad depth, historical dominance, and current form, are the favorites to win this match. Villarreal will put up a fight, but the Galácticos should have enough to secure a victory.

Final Score Prediction

Real Madrid 3-1 Villarreal

Conclusion

There you have it, folks. A comprehensive, in-depth, and slightly humorous analysis of the upcoming La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Villarreal. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just here for the witty commentary, we hope you enjoyed this preview. May the best team win, and may your bets be ever in your favor.

Le Guys and sons également. Black and white burgers a aussi fermé il me semble (corrigez-moi si je me trompe) Mais du coup, je ne sais plus où aller pour acheter de bons burgers ?

2024.05.15 11:17 conversation-dude Playing chess at Northgate

Over the past few weekends I’ve been bringing my chess board to Northgate, sitting down in the tables in front of Dixie Chicken or The Backyard, and playing whoever sits down.
The reason I did this was out of love for the game, boredom, and desire to socialize. I don’t drink and am not very talkative so yes this was the best way to spend Friday and Saturday nights, obviously.
For reference, I peaked at 1850 ELO in chess.com. People who sat down could be any rating. I played people who were probably rated close to 100 all the way to people who must’ve been 2300+. If I had to guess, the mean rating was around 900 but with a very large standard deviation. I won more than 95% of the games. I must have played hundreds of people in total, with the vast majority being men. I only played against 3 women. I played people of all ethnicities but the majority were white Americans. The good thing about playing here was that it took a very short to play someone. The average wait between games was probably about 5 minutes. This made it by far the best time and place to set up a chess board in CS. I sometimes set up my board on campus in between classes but got nowhere near as many people to play then.
It was fun! The “rudest” comment I got was “congrats, you beat a drunk person, you four eyed nerd.” Most people were super friendly and amused at the idea of playing chess in a place that seems antithetical to it. What makes playing chess in person worth it is shaking your opponents hand and saying thanks for playing after. It feels very human and warm when compared to online chess. The problem is that talking while playing chess is hard. Calculating moves takes a lot of brain processing, so there’s little space to think about what to say in a conversation. This means that I had mostly just pleasant small talk before or after games.
Most people sat by themselves, but it was very funny when a group of people sat down. Sometimes people would cheer when a piece was captured. People walking by would holler a move (KNIGHT TO F5!!”). People would make a celebrity move then disappear. Others would take pictures. Illegal moves were seen: knights moving like bishops, pawns moving diagonally without capturing, castling in check, and moving a pinned piece so that the king could be taken. A girlfriend complained to her bf who sat down “babe you are NOT about to do this.” People told me about how they used to play chess with their grandfather. They said chess in person feels different and harder than online. I won $5 once. Somehow, I went on a date out of all of it.
I graduated this semester so I won’t be able to do this anymore. But it was honestly one of the best things I’ve done in college and I’ll miss it a lot. If any of the people I played reads this, thanks for sitting down and playing.

2024.05.15 09:34 some_random_name1519 Pre-Finale thoughts on Fantasy High: Junior Year

Since it's almost the time for the finale, I have to get my thoughts out there about Fantasy High: Junior Year. Prefacing this by saying that I'm really enjoying the season as-is, and have enjoyed most other D20 seasons as well. Let's just call this whole thing from here on out a spoiler. Spoilers/potential spoilers for all seasons and one-shots of Fantasy High, as well as The Seven, and possibly Pirates of Leviathan (though probably not the latter since it's fairly peripheral).
1) Problems with the timeline
There are massive timeline issues with the overlap of all of the in-world seasons, primarily The Seven, but also FHSY for some aspects. • The Seven takes place in this same year (Junior year for Zelda, Danielle, and Ostentatia), beginning with the first day of classes (Brennan narrates that it has been "about a year and a half" since the events of the Prompocalypse, so that works out to Junior Year for the Bad Kids too) • In The Seven, Sam establishes (multiple times) that Zelda has a current boyfriend, and that it is Gorgug; this makes the whole "here's a box of your stuff, I'm breaking up with you" thing makes no sense
2) Arthur Aguefort
Augefort being on a time-travel holiday with Ayda presents and causes all sorts of problems. • Arthur is present and reachable at the school at the beginning of The Seven's Junior year, as well as multiple times throughout, so how is it possible that he is not present while The Bad Kids complete this same year in time? • If the answer to that is Chronomancy, and he just redid a year then this brings up its own set of issues.
3) The Night Yorb
Really? They just...sealed it in the roof of the van and that's it? It feels like that was too convenient and abrupt.
4) Pretty much everything school-related this year
Seriously...why is the major focus on academics and downtime? Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying the season, but it seems like a really odd thing to focus on so heavily, specifically with regard to all the other related seasons.
5) Porter & Jace
OK, I'll admit that I do really enjoy this twist. However, as much as Brennan has said that he has been planning this for 5 years, it seems odd that he would deviate from whatever plan he originally had so heavily. Now, certainly they had no way of knowing if Dimension 20 would take off, so I can understand if the next 3 years of school weren't fleshed out in his world building, however there are very clear breadcrumbs throughout Freshman Year that lead to things which happen in Sophomore Year (eg. the Nightmare King is referred to by Fig in a very early episode - possibly episode 1? - not just at the end when the Crown goes missing). With this all being said, and taking into account that things will never be 100% concrete until the cast actually interacts with a session, it seems odd that an entire BBG would be axed in favor of a couple of teachers who are only bad because Emily hyperfocused on one of them.
6) What I think is actually going on
I think we are dealing with something dimensional/alternate-life related. Something à la "The Inner Light" from TNG. I'm guessing that the Night Yorb situation didn't actually happen the way we think/have been told, and that this has essentially been a "teachable moment"/potential end of life/what might have been thing.
I guess I'll find out if I'm totally hearing zebras instead of horses soon. See y'all at Bazrar's

Reflecting on past Iowa Coaches (all sports) and AD's
I'm an Iowa alum, been watching/listening/attending games since Bob Comming coached Hawkeye football.
I rank Iowa Coaches and AD'S based on success/failures and impact as follows:

1 Dan Gable. 15 NCAA titles. Best of the Best.

2 Tom Brands.

3 Hayden Fry. Coached fun, watchable football. Tons of charisma.

4 Lute Olson. Bruce 'Sky King', Ronnie Lester. Lute didn't have any sons on his Iowa roster. Positive and upbeat. Should have paid him more and built him a new arena as the old but beloved Fieldhouse was part of the reason he left.

5 Lisa Bluder. Legacy will be greater over time.

6 Ralph Miller. Miller had an unequaled addiction to cigarettes, and chain-smoked More brand cigarettes during basketball practices, on team buses, and in his office.

7 Rick Heller.

8 Kirk Ferentz. (early career only). Bad choice as we should have hired Stoops instead. Ferentz did okay in his first few years to get Iowa football back on track but his last 15 years have really been unbearable to watch. Does not understand that football should be a fun, attacking game but has hired some good assistant coaches; Phil Parker, Norm Parker, LaVar Woods. I can't hardly watch Iowa football any more as the offense stinks.

9 George Raveling. I liked George, he was a great recruiter, charismatic. Fun teams.

10 Tom Davis. Steady. Reliable. Only had 1 son on the roster. Had good results.

-- Biggest Blunders --

1 Steve Alford. Smug. Narcissistic a-hole, but his hair was always perfect. Had a 'Div III level of skill' son play at Iowa. Nepotism. Used Iowa as a stepping stone.

2 Lickliter. Mr. No personality. Had a son who couldn't start on most high school teams play at Iowa. Nepotism and way out of his league as a B1G coach and should have stayed at Butler.

3 Brian Ferentz. Worst OC in Div I football for 3 years in a row. Wtf? Had no perception of how to lead an offense. Not well spoken. Kind of an a-hole. Nepotism hire. Good riddance.

4 Gary Barta. Terrible AD. Never turned down an opportunity to promote nepotism.

5 Retaining Kirk Ferentz after the 4-8 2012 season. 3 sons played at Iowa and one of those was the worst OC in college football 3 years running. Nepotism.

6 McCaffery. In his playing days, Fran acquired the nickname of "White Magic" he was also referred to the “Conductor” on the court. Has had 3 sons on his Iowa bball roster. Nepotism. I've never liked McCaffery, he seems like a strange guy with a temper although he does get us to around 20 wins every season.

Iowa hasnt won a B1G mens basketball championship since 1979.

2024.05.15 07:48 Typical_Guava_6145 72-96 HR Rolling Fasts > Extended Fasts for ease, sustainability & weight loss with data

I’ve done several fasts btwn 10-12 days and more than 5 fasts btwn 5-8 days and I weigh daily.
This is my first time doing rolling fasts and I’m 10 days in so far and feel like I’ve found my fasting calling.
My records suggest that extended fasting very slightly beats rolling fasts thru 7 days, we are talking weight loss of 15 lbs vs 13.5 lbs here.
However, after the first 7 days, rolling fasts are equal to or slightly better than extended fasts for weight loss.
The difference seems to be the lack of a plateau with rolling fasts.
I’ve seen daily weights and chart from others that show a weight gain of 2-4 lbs after the fast breaking meal, but at least to this point, that hasn’t been happening for me.
After 2 big refeeds of 3000 calories, one low carb (13.3%) and the 2nd keto (net carbs 5g, 0.2% carbs), I lost 0.6 lbs and gained 0.6 lbs, respectively, so I’m net zero weight gain in terms of refeeds.
Currently 26 hrs into a 96 hr rolling fast, I’ll be getting more data and will be able to go head to head with my most successful 12 day extended fast - right now, it looks like 12 days of rolling fasts will come in a tie or possibly win by 1 lb or lose by 1 lb - now there is a caveat, I did a 39 hr rolling fast as the 2nd fast, btwn the first fast of 96 hrs and the 3rd fast of 72 hrs, so that refeed, though only 1000 calories with 1g net carbs, has probably cost me 1 lb.
Here is the 9 days of data from my rolling fast thus far:
Fasting Weight Progress
Fast started at 3:30am on Sunday 5/5
Day 1 weight is at 12pm, 33 hrs in (+9 hrs from full day)
Daily weights 11:30am-12:30pm
Day 0… 229… last meal at 3:30am
Day 1… 225.8 (3.2)… FAST 33 hours
Day 2… 223.4 (2.4)…FAST
Day 3… 221.0 (2.4)… FAST
Day 4… 219.6 (1.4)… EAT salmon, tuna, hemp at 2:30am-4:30am to BREAK 95:2 HR FAST 1000 cals 0 net carbs
Day 5… 217.2 (2.4)… EAT brisket x 3, tuna, hemp, walnuts, almonds, raisins from 7pm-1am to BREAK 39:6 HR FAST 3000 cals 100g carbs
Day 6… 216.6 (0.6)… FAST
Day 7… 215.2 (1.4)….. FAST
Day 8… 213.4 (1.8)… EAT 67:5 HR FAST salmon x 2, ground beef x 2, chicken x 2, steak, walnuts, almonds, 3000 cals 5g net carbs
Day 9… 214.0 (+0.6)… FAST
Day 10… ???
In terms of sustainability, I had no problem doing 72 hrs during the last fast with no hunger on Days 1 & 2 and only mild-moderate hunger on Day 3, and though I could have went 96 hrs without too much of a battle, I broke at 72 hrs.
Currently at 26 hours into new fast, hunger is none to minimal after eating 3000 cals of a 5g net carb refeed, and plan is to do 96 hours this time as long as hunger on Day 3 is moderate or lower.
There may very well be individual differences between people, with some losing more weight and/or preferring extended fasts and others getting those benefits from 72-96 hr rolling fasts.
Plan is to break current fast with lo carb SALAD-based 3000 cal refeed (kale, spinach, broccoli, brisket x 2, 120 cals beans, 130 cals sweet potatoes, seeds, nuts) that should bring me briefly out of ketosis for a few hours, and compare weight loss of isocaloric 5g net carbs carnivore & nuts based refeed vs 60g net carbs high fiber lo carb kale, spinach, broccoli, brisket, beans, sweet potatoes, seeds, nuts refeed.
Has anyone done this comparison before? If so, did isocaloric 3000 cals carb zero keto outperform high fiber low carb (60g net carbs) or is it the other way around, with nutrients from vegetables, beans and well-rounded meal flipping the switch from ketones to glucose to ketones for a few hours - how energy intensive is it to flip that switch twice within a few hours and can nutrient-loaded meal supercharge fat burning after 12-day fast drains nutrients?
Also, has anybody else not gained weight after refeeding on a rolling 72-96 hr fast?
If you haven’t gained weight after refeed on a 72/96 hr rolling fast, how many cals was your meal and what foods comprised it?
Thanks for reading, please feel free to comment.

2024.05.15 07:22 ghostmosquito Ranking the SK novels I've read

(I had originally posted this in the horrorlit sub)
Stephen King: one of the masters of the horror genre, and one of the best writers of the present age. With unforgettable characters, good prose, and some spooky scenes that have now become iconic parts of popular culture, King has been entertaining constant readers for decades. Critics of his work point out the repetition of writer characters, struggle with endings, slow pacing, and some other shortcomings, but I've enjoyed most of the King novels that I've read immensely. Below, I present a personal and subjective ranking of the King novels I have read:
Rank 11: Dreamcatcher. This is the only King novel I dnf-ed. Bummer because initially it was giving me major 'It' vibes and I was really enjoying it. But it all went downhill for me.
Rank 10: Carrie. First King book I read, and enjoyed it enough to try his other works. Interesting book.
Rank 9: The Gunslinger. The only Dark Tower novel I've read. I actually liked how bizarre and dreamlike this book is.
Rank 8: The Stand. Definitely a great work, I enjoyed everything but the climax wasn't very satisfying. Which is why I'm ranking this one a bit lower than usual. M O O N, that spells unpopular opinion.
Rank 7: Insomnia. Loved this book, loved viewing Derry from the perspective of a lonesome old man who can't sleep. I love novels that explore the solitude of night.
Rank 6: 'Salem's Lot. Recently read this one. Spooky stuff. Perhaps a bit too many named characters for its length. Could easily have been a Stephen King epic with 1000 pages. Enjoyed the small town vibes.
Rank 5: Bag of Bones. This one is a very 'literary' type of horror novel. Thought it was very well written. I sort of figured out how it was going to end, but I still enjoyed where it went.
Rank 4: The Dark Half. A very fast paced horror-thriller, this one (at least for me). Extreme horror, if we keep in mind some descriptions. Loved it!
Rank 3: Pet Sematary. Fully deserves all the praise. But I don't think I can ever re-read this book. Might be too much to handle. I'm a chicken like that sometimes.
Rank 2: Duma Key. Read it twice, an absolute masterpiece in the horror genre in my opinion, I love the characters, and thought it was very poetic.
Rank 1: It. Read it twice, some of favourite characters and scenes by King are in this book. Probably will read again.
Hope you found this post interesting, based on the above info, which King book do you think I should read next?

HELP - Rehoming SF kitten
Hi guys,
I am devastated and have an unexpected medical issue that is considerably reducing my mobility. I have just adopted an adorable scottish fold kitten that's around 3,5 months now. She is the perfect companion and truly became my best friend as I got her when she was just a little baby.
Unfortunately as my condition is getting worse, I also see her getting more sad as I am not able to attend to her needs and play with her as much as I wish I could. So I am looking to rehome her. I want to make sure she goes to a great family.
A little bit about her :
She is a Scottish Fold, her dad is folded and her mum straight. Her dad is a champion and she looks just like him :`). I got her from a reputable cattery here in LA.
She is dewormed and recently got checked for parasites. Fully vaccinated as well. Not neutered but can be discussed if you need help with that. She is also litter trained and to my surprise never had an accident in the two months I have been with her.
She loves morning cuddles and will follow you everywhere but loves her space as well. She will always watch you from a distance and be ready to play whenever you want to! She does fine staying alone for a couple hours and loves to sleep on your lap :) She is truly the most respectful kitten, even when she makes a mess eating she will make sure to do it on the mat I provided for her and not one single crumb on the floor hehe ! Oh and she looooooves chicken!
Please let me know if anyone is interested and we can discuss pricing. If you guys also know where and how I could rehome her, please comment or DM me ! I can provide more pictures as needed.

2024.05.15 06:34 PigDoctor My (Almost) Complete Zombie Alphabet!

Hello all! I came here the other day asking for help finding 10 additional zombie movies to bring my list up to 100. With all your recommendations, I far surpassed that. There are tons of alphabetized lists of zombie movies, but I thought it would be fun to list my personal zombie alphabet, by picking my top choice for each letter.

2024.05.15 05:30 delibirdguy Top 500 Songs Ever (Subjective)

Over the course of the past few months I have been working on compiling a list of my 500 favorite songs. It was sort of challenge that I gave myself and I'm super pumped with how it turned out. There were a few rules (only 5 songs per artist being the big rule, among a few others), and here's the list I came up with. Bio

Aerys Belaerys was born on Dragonstone to Aemon and Alyssa Belaerys. His father was occupied trying to scrape together any amount of money for their family while his cousins marched to war with the Targaryens. He would be the eldest of their two children with his sister Maegelle being born a few years after and from a young age, Aerys had very little expectations placed upon him unlike others that bore the name Belaerys.
In the beginning he was set to follow one of two paths, that of a warrior or that of a copper counter akin to his father, either way he would be a man sworn to serve the Targaryens and the main branch of Belaerys on their family farm. His mother wished more for him to be told, but being the side branch to an already lowly Valyrian family did not open up many opportunities.
Much would change quickly however, Aerys would only live on Dragonstone for a short period of two years before his families luck would take a surprising turn. A short stint inside Aegonsfort before tragedy befell House Targaryen as the King was slain by a Tully assassin. Aerys was far too young to even remember these times however, with his first memories only ever being of the family's new home in what was once called the castle of Riverrun.
Life would be easy going for Aerys, all eyes were on his elder cousins and the main branch of House Belaerys. Such relaxed expectations would lead Aerys to try and find his own niche in the family, a position no other would be able to match him in. He dreamed ambitiously and so threw himself at everything he could hoping something would stick, and stick something did.
While his cousin Aelor grew to love the fine arts, Aerys would find himself enthralled with matters altogether more martial. Learning the history of the Westerosi was made ever more interesting thanks to the countless spats and wars that occurred throughout the continent. From the Andal invasions all the way back to the mystical wars between the First Men and Children of the Forest, Aerys soaked in knowledge of battles and strategies and begin dreaming of the day he would ride out at the head of his own army.
As the years passed and the boy grew into his teenage years, he had moved on from daydreaming his battles to creating mock scenarios out of game pieces, challenging all who he deemed might pose a worthy challenge. This would start out with a soldier here, or one of the maesters there, but soon enough none in the castle wished to play such a game, and so once more his thirst for advancement in his craft would evolve.
Aerys would begin setting up mock battles using Belaerys men-at-arms as the new pieces. This form of the game would give him further visual queues to look for during the battles, and would lead him to further honing his abilities on the field. The mixture of reading every piece of work and actively leading troops in the mock battles around Aegon's Rest, Aerys' abilities would eventually begin to plateau, there was only so much practice could do in place of actual real world experience.
Such experience was likely enough to come his way however, as before long an old and bitter rivalry that Aerys had only read about finally flared back up. Blackwoods and Brackens once more raised their banners and pointed their weapons at one another.
While much of the surrounding Houses began to fear that the spat would spill out into something all the more devastating, Aerys was overjoyed at the potential for real warfare experience. No other voice was louder then little Aerys Belaerys during the council meeting that Lord Baelor Belaerys called over the matter. While some voiced caution, and others voiced leaving the House out of it entirely, Aerys Belaerys urged his uncle to support a side and earn prestige and renown for their House.
Baelor would be swayed by his nephews pleas, and a raven would be sent to House Blackwood declaring that House Belaerys stood with them. The banners would be called, and while Aerys would not be given any sort of command due to his youth, it would not stop the excitement from rising in his chest. The only thing that did kill the excitement was the dragon that appeared on the horizon the day Belaerys was set to march to join the conflict. At first believing it to be one of the Queens, Aerys was beyond surprised to see none other then his cousin Aelor.
His cousin and the dragon would fly off almost as soon as they had landed. Aerys was not privy to the discussion that took place between father and son, but he knew deep down that if a dragon had joined the mix, it was highly unlikely that he would see any form of real battle this day.
This feeling would turn true as reports came back the very same day that both Blackwoods and Brackens agreed to return to their own lands instead of face a dragon, his heart sank at this news and his feelings became conflicted for but a moment. It was great for his House and cousin that Belaerys now wielded a monstrous beast like Veraxes, but it was that fact that also stole Aerys' first chance at live combat.
He wouldn't remain in a sour mood for long however, because once Aelor returned he would give Aerys the chance of a lifetime, and the pair of cousins would fly atop the back of Veraxes together. Aerys could remember tying the chain, his heart beating hard as the great dragons wings stretched out and prepared for flight. It would be a memory he would hold dear, as though in their childhoods they had never been able to forge a close bond, this one act would be the start of a strong fellowship between the two.
Life would once more fall into a simple cycle of monotony, Aelor flew off to explore what Westeros had to offer, and Aerys would continue his learning efforts. Eventually the entirety of Aegon's Rest library was exhausted. His father Aemon would urge him to see knowledge and experience outside the family's lands, more specifically to the Citadel like he had. Although he was wary of leaving at first, he would concede that in order to grow and gain more knowledge it would be needed.
In 20 AC, Aerys would leave Aegon's Rest for the first time in 18 years. He would travel through the West and Reach, meeting new people and experiencing new things along the way. Finally he would reach Oldtown, the high spire reaching far into the sky above him. He would spend the next five years working his way through several links of a chain, emerging in 25 AC with a more complete education and solid foundation in regards to warfare.
He would make his return journey to Aegon's Rest, only to learn of his family's impending journey to the festivities being held near King's Landing.

Bio

Born ten and seven years prior to the Conquest to Maekar Belaerys and Aerea Scales, Aemon had one sibling, a younger sister named Alyssa. He would spend his entire youth on Dragonstone until he'd grown to become a man-at-arms under House Targaryen.
During the Conquest, he'd land with his cousin Baelor and Aegon Targaryen at what is now known as King's Landing. Despite his best attempts, Aemon was never exceptionally skilled with a sword, he would quickly find ways to not be sent to the frontlines, managing to fake an injury to his ribs on the eve of the Field of Fire.
This fake injury would cause him to miss the battle, and thus miss the death of his cousin Monterys as he fell to the enemies arrows. He would miss the field turning red as the Targaryens dragons turned everything to fire and ash.
The loss of his cousin, a man he might have been able to protect had he been more brave, shook the last reserves of strength from Aemon. He would hang up his sword for the last time, vowing to never pretend to do something again, and only do that which he knew would actually be able to help his family.
While his cousin and their offspring proved valorous warriors, Aemon had always been drawn to that which truly made the world function, gold. From a young age his ability to keep track of funds and find the best deals had kept his burgeoning family fed as they tried to subsist on a meager farm on Dragonstone. Although he had a knack for this line of work, his education had been truly lackluster given his background, a few years after the war he would seek his Baelors permission to learn from the group of Maesters down at the Citadel.
After arriving at Oldtown he would immediately become consumed by the sheer amount of potential knowledge the Citadel had to offer, and the nightlife that Oldtown had to offer wasn't too bad in its own right. Despite his marriage to his sister-wife, Alyssa, Aemon had never felt a true closeness to her as a husband should, and so truly he dove into all the city had to offer.
Several years pass, several chain links forged, several seeds planted. Aemon would journey home with so many new experiences gained and knowledge secured under his belt, it was time to return to his family and do everything he could to make up for lost time.
In the time spent in the South, House Belaerys under Baelor had not been idle. Now the Lords of their own fief, it seemed like their House was on the rise. Although the first meeting between the two was awkward at first given the amount of time spent away from each other, Aemon would find his place in the family soon enough.
Raised to the position of Steward, he would quickly show that his time in Oldtown was not wasted. Repairs on the castle would be completed faster than originally anticipated, prices for equipment and resources were negotiated for better prices, and the flow of taxes from the surrounding lands was tweaked to allow for more gains per moon.
Life would pass by, and soon enough Aemon would witness his son growing into a young man of his own. Unlike him though, Aerys would be captivated by war and the commanding of soldiers. Sometimes it led Aemon to wonder how such a boy came from him, but still it made him smile to see his own excel at something they held dear.
One day the peaceful life that Aemon had grown accustomed to appeared to be slipping, as word rose from the east that the ancient rivalry between Blackwoods and Brackens was on the cusp of once again reigniting. Despite his pleas for Baelor to remain neutral from the conflict, it was his own sons words that resonated best with the Lord of Aegon's Rest.
To Aemons own horror, Aerys was pushing for their house to join the fray on the side of the Blackwoods and march to war. Once more the sinking feeling of fear and cowardice crept up on him, and he felt like this time, instead of his cousin dying, it would be his own son.
His fears would begin to reach the surface as the day to march off to battle arrived, no amount of arguing or fighting had dissuaded either Baelor or Aerys from the current course of action, and it seemed anything short of draconic intervention wouldn't be able to stop Belaerys from joining the fight.
Such thoughts would prove true however, as in the sky appeared the mighty form of that which could be mistaken for nothing else. A dragon flew above Aegon's Rest for the first time in a decade, except this time it brought a rider that did not bear the name Targaryen.
Aemon was just as shocked as everyone else as none other then Aelor Belaerys dropped off the back of the dragon. His fears washed away as he witnessed Aelor return to his dragon after speaking with Lord Baelor, surely the son had returned to save his House from sacrificing any lives.
After the conflict was averted by the actions of Aelor, life at Aegon's Rest would return to a sense of normality. Such life was perfect for him, but alas he soon saw the effects it had on his son. The boy seemed to grow restless and irate at the peace that reigned over their region of Westeros. Aemon knew the boy needed new experiences, and thanks to his time there, he knew exactly where such knowledge and experience could be gained.
He would direct his son to travel to the Citadel, engulf himself in the studies and histories the Maesters had collected there, and absorb all he could. Such things would surely teach the boy a thing or two, and also allow him to travel across Westeros and see some of the world outside the castles walls.
All was once more calm, Aemon would begin spending the time he wasn't dedicating to being Steward to fishing, reading, and even teaching his daughter the finer points on being a steward, so that one day she might be able to help out with his duties.
Time would fly by until, in 25 AC, Aerys would return home a moon before House Belaerys was set to travel to the festivities being held near King's Landing. House Belaerys flourished now, a thriving castle and an heir that wielded a deadly dragon.
What could possibly go wrong?

2024.05.15 04:22 ARTS1984 An Honest Conversation

Howdy y'all. I haven't posted for awhile so I thought I'd give another short story a try. This takes place during Chapter 2 after Kris, Susie and Ralsei split temporarily leaving Kris alone. Hope you enjoy.
An Honest Conversation
Kris, Susie and Ralsei came up to a split in the road in Cyber City, Ralsei noting the occasion by walking up in front of the group and looking towards Kris and Susie as they wondered what he had to say.
"Seems we've come to a split in the road. We should split up--Kris, who do you want to go with?" Ralsei looked to the human, slightly annoying Susie.
"Why does Kris get to pick all the time?!" Susie walked up towards Ralsei, grabbing him by the shirt. "You're coming with me."
With that, a blank faced Kris was left behind as Susie took off down the northern alley leaving the human behind to fend for himself.
"SUSIE!!" Ralsei shouted.
"WHAT?!"Susie responded.
"you can put me down." The goat Darkner whispered in slight annoyance.
"...oh." Susie gently stopped running, putting the hairy goat Darkner down. "Sorry."
"Why'd you leave Kris behind like that?" Ralsei asked, wiping off his green robes.
"He'll be fine." Susie sighed. "Sides...I was kinda nervous he'd choose me."
"Why?" Ralsei inquired.
"We just became friends yesterday, ya doofus." Susie explained, sitting down against the alley wall. "I'm not ready for that conversation...yet."
"That conversation?" Ralsei raised an eyelid.
"What, are you a million questions Ralsei today?"
"I'm sorry, I'm kinda new to this whole friends thing myself." Ralsei looked down.
Susie sighed, remembering that very fact herself.
"Yeah, kinda hard just having a Ralsei statue as company I suppose." Susie mused, wiping her snout. "The thing is...me and Kris have always been on the opposite end of the spectrum. Kris...he's had security his whole life. Me, I've had shitty parents and no guarantee of a good meal or warm bed. It sucks. I treated him like dirt for the longest time Ralsei. One time, I came pretty damn close to really hurting him. If I didn't stop myself right then I would've done it. I was mad at him...he was so socially awkward, never talked to anyone, kept to himself. Despite everything I did, Kris risked his life for mine. For the first time in my life, I was scared to lose someone. I saw the King holding Kris in his disgusting hands, using the very same words I muttered earlier..."QUIET PEOPLE PISS ME OFF" he uttered his tongue out. It hit me what I had to do."
"Susie, I think it's clear to me that Kris would listen and not judge you given his actions." Ralsei sat down, playing with his fur.
"You think?" Susie asked. "I hardly know the kid. All I know for sure is that he has the greatest Mom ever and that his hair smells annoyingly of apples. You don't know what willpower it took for me NOT to take a bite outta that kid's head."
"I'm sure he'd get you an apple if you asked." Ralsei snickered at the thought.
"His Mom makes good pies...I'll have to pester Kris to have his Mom make us some of her cinnamon-butterscotch pies she's known for." Susie drooled at the thought. "You should come to the Light World sometime, Ralsei. You'd enjoy it."
"I'll...keep that in mind." Ralsei looked away, dodging the question as nimbly as he could.
"I mean it! We three and Lancer would be invincible!" Susie grinned, just thinking of it. "You could be Ms. Alphy's teacher's pet and Lancer could dig all the holes in town he wanted. There's enough pot holes already as it is...a few more wouldn't hurt I suppose."
"I'm sure it would be wonderful, Susie." Ralsei acknowledged.
"Well, just think about it." Susie let end it there, seeing the troubled look on Ralsei's face. There was something he obviously wasn't telling her but it could wait. She didn't want to ruin this. "Look, the real reason I dragged you into this path was--I want to ask you about Kris."
"Kris? What about?" Ralsei asked.
"Don't tell Kris I said any of what I'm about to tell you. And I mean NONE of it Ralsei." Susie narrowed her eyes.
"My lips are zipped." Ralsei meekly responded.
"Good." Susie sighed. "After we left the Dark World yesterday, I felt things I hadn't felt ever...I wasn't sure what happened was real. All I knew was that I felt them and that I didn't want to lose them...most of all, I didn't want to lose Kris. Kris...the kid I hated for my all time in Hometown I now couldn't stand to be without. I thought of em' the whole night. I didn't get any sleep Ralsei and trust me, that bed you presented earlier was VERY tempting...you bastard."
"S-Sorry."
"It's ok...I'm just venting here. Anyway...I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know how I should go about this whole thing."
"When did you plan to have...the conversation?"
"Sometime in the Dark World, when it was just me and Kris."
"Why don't you talk to him when you guys are done with this adventure? You could walk him home." Ralsei suggested.
"Say Kris, why don't I walk ya home and we can talk serious junk...yeah Rals, that'll go down real well."
"R-Rals?"
"What, no one ever called you a nickname?" Susie raised an eyebrow.
"Well, insults like toothpaste boy not withstanding...Rals isn't bad." Ralsei blushed.
"Geez, I'm gonna have to teach you a LOT." Susie moaned, slapping the side of her snout. "Don't expect these lessons to be free either, toothpaste boy. You're gonna have to make a lot of cakes."
"S-Sure." Ralsei sweat. "I mean it though...don't make a big deal, just...offer to walk him home and just bring it up when you two are nice and relaxed."
"Like, when we're sitting down or something? Like now?"
"Yeah! We're talking, having a serious conversation aren't we?" Ralsei nodded in glee.
"No, we're talking about rainbows." Susie rolled her eyes.
"W-We are?" Ralsei second guessed himself.
"NO...that was SARCASM." Susie sighed once again. "I swear with this guy..."
"Sarcasm?"
"I swear I'm gonna call you Million Questions Ralsei forever if you don't stop." Susie crossed her arms. "It's when you want to express annoyance but do it indirectly."
"Huh. I'll have to try that..."
"Can we focus?" Susie snapped.
"O-Oh, sorry--so Kris, what do you want to ask him?"
"I try asking him if we'd still be friends if I opened that supply closet door and you guys weren't there but I chickened out at the last second. I didn't want to think about the possibility of that not being a thing."
Ralsei went silent, looking at Susie as she looked to the ground thinking of Kris in that moment.
"Susie, I didn't realize that Kris meant that much to you." Ralsei rubbed the back of his head. "Am I the one you should really be asking for advice on this? I mean, after all I'm...just learning how to be a friend. And you've done all the teaching thus far."
"Kris and I just became friends. The thought of losing that just scares me...scares me to my very core. The little I did sleep I had a nightmare. It was me and him in front of that bunker door in the woods. He was shaking the whole time, scared of something--I asked him what was wrong. He wouldn't tell me, backing away each time I walked towards the door. Suddenly, the door opened and a look of terror that I've never seen on him erupted on Kris' face. He looked at me, reached out to me but was sucked in and I had to watch as the doors closed on him. I couldn't save him, Ralsei! Kris almost died trying to save me yesterday Ralsei...I don't want to lose him." Susie began to break down. "All this time, I've treated that kid LIKE SHIT and despite everything, he still stuck his neck out for me. What do you say to that!? What do you do with that?! Jesus..."
Susie stood up, sniffling and wanting to begin walking again.
"H-Hey...Susie."Ralsei got up, gently putting a hand on Susie's arm, Susie growing stiff at the contact, Ralsei quickly pulling his hand away.
"Y-Yeah?" Susie turned around, trying to regain her composure.
"My offer still stands. I could teach you some healing spells, if you're up for it. Of course, the lessons would be payment for your advice from earlier." Ralsei offered. "This could help you protect Kris."
"They're hiding something Ralsei, I know it." Susie said. "It troubles Kris, even before we came to the Dark World. If there's something Kris knows and is trying to solve, I want to be prepared for the worst case scenario. I want to protect him."
"Then we'll start with the basics and on the way, refine your approach to conversation starters, all right?" Ralsei smirked.
"R-Rals?"
"Yes, Susie?"
"You're not half bad." Susie smirked, putting an arm around him.
"T-Thanks." Ralsei blushed. "I don't suppose that would translate to hugging..."
"DO NOT PUSH YOUR LUCK."

2024.05.15 03:38 KrispyBeaverBoy 2006: OJ Simpson Stars in the Prank Show Juiced-Attempts to Sell a White Ford Bronco.

O.J. Simpson is gone-dead from cancer earlier this year. Rewind back to the 90's. O.J, or not O.J. depending on who you ask, stabbed his ex-wife and her boyfriend to death in Los Angeles. The whole country was subsequently held hostage with round the clock O.J. coverage in the wake of the murders*. Its all anyone talked about and there was no way to escape it. There weren't thousands of channels to flick to, or dozens of streaming services available to seek refuge-in far away from the insanity.
However, after his acquittal he seemed to simply fade from public view-absorbed back into the stained fabric of American society. That was of course before he was locked up for nine years in 2008 for attempting to rob his own memorabilia at gunpoint. So what was he doing with his freedom in the years prior?
Nothing. Well, almost nothing. In 2006, executive producer Rick Mahr, famous for the highly-cerebral Backyard Wrestling series, decided it would be a good idea to tap into the reality show boom with an MTV Punk'd themed prank show featuring O.J. Simpson.
It was a one-hour special that featured O.J. himself engaging in a series of pranks ranging from dressing in rags while selling oranges on the side of a highway, to him serving and insulting fat customers in a fast-food drive thru. At the end of the gig, he'd come clean and tell the victim with a smile "you just got Juiced!" Most of the pranks fell flat on their face: people sometimes didn't recognize O.J. or didn't understand the prank, or the whole idea was just too damn stupid.
But the icing on the cake was the skit where O.J. attempted to sell a replica of his white Ford Bronco, which incidentally was discontinued for years after the murders (but that's another story, you can see below for a few more details). The Bronco even sported a real bullet hole, which The Juice himself signed right above it.
O.J. seems to reflect on the whole Bronco chase as simply comical. Is this some dark type of new-age therapy? "It has great escapability!" he keeps informing customers. Does he admit that there was a dead body in the car? Was it him who placed it there? I have never heard O.J speak so candidly about details from the aftermath of the murders.
Here are some exchanges between O.J. and potential 'customers' as reported in the NPR This American Life episode 564-Too Soon?:
Man: Is there $10,000 in here?
O.J: Nope, Nope. No $10,000,
Man: ...You were carrying it, you know?
O.J: Naw, naw. They say that, I was carrying about $3.
Man: $3?
O.J: Yeah, that's why they never brought it up in court.
In another exchange:
O.J: It was good for me.
Man: Yeah?
O.J: Got me out of harm's way.
Man: ...Ok, I'll sit in it...there was a dead body in there.
O.J: Yeah. Well, um, hopefully there's no bodies in this thing. And I can guarantee you, the car has escape-ability. I mean, if you're ever getting into some trouble, and you've got to get away, it has escape-ability.
Man: (Laughing)
He'd be locked up soon after this aired. Apparently only about 100 DVDs ever sold, and there are no other details about the profits made from the pay per view event, or O.J.'s fee for appearing in the special.
All in all, it was a completely ill-conceived idea with even worse execution that somehow was spewed into existence. It reeks of a desperation for money from all parties involved, none of whom seemed capable of creating any well-written gags for the camera. However, it is memorable in the shock-value of seeing an accused murderer making light of the truck he rode in after he supposedly stabbed his wife and her boyfriend to death.
Most humans will live a rich, full life never knowing this even exists. For the woeful few who do see it, you can't help but leave with an overwhelming feeling that O.J. was a twisted and broken man at this point, straining to grasp at even the the slightest hint of his former celebrity and adoration.
\To most people born post 1980s, OJ Simpson was a famous athlete accused, then acquitted of murder who'd later serve time for a completely unrelated crime.*
But to the rest of us, OJ is the single most infamous athlete name of our lifetimes--the shockwave that was sent through the country when it was announced that his ex-wife and her boyfriend had been murdered in Los Angeles, was unprecedented.
Its impossible to recreate the magnitude of this mono-cultural event that was the OJ Trial, and words don't begin to describe the fall from grace of one of the most beloved sports stars ever.
We'll never be able to forget the image of the low-speed white Ford Bronco chase with dozens of police cars in not so hot pursuit, or the inhumanly long trial that fractured the country along racial lines, or the glove that don't fit (so you must acquit!).
To the younger generation: try to imagine waking up to read that one of the Manning brothers had been accused of bumping off their significant other. Maybe that serves to illustrate the disbelief that we were all hit with that one night in June, 1994.
After the 8 month murder trial (yeah, how many of you had forgotten it lasted that long?), OJ was a free man. Images of him happily golfing sent waves of anger through white America, who felt like justice was cheated by a slick defense team that highlighted the racist tactics of the LA police department. On the heels of the Rodney King video and subsequent riots, this was not only a brilliant strategy, but one rooted in a great deal of truth.
A civil lawsuit followed in which OJ was found responsible for the death of Ron Goldman and ordered to pay his family $33 million. To my knowledge, they never received a cent.
